Hi all, im doing something stupid and I'm wondering if anyone here has done something similar and could answer one question I have.
Basically, I obtained a pro2 frame (with motor) without a battery and controller for cheap. I figured why go stock. Currently I'm building a 72v battery using 21700 cells, I wont be pushing more than 40 amps from this pack just to be safe, and 40 amps will be plenty enough for me.
So my question is, what power levels can the stock pro 2 motor handle safely (peak and constant)? I'll be using a VESC, so I have the freedom of limiting the power, but where should I stop?
If I burn the motor, are there any replacements with upgraded internals that would fit the m365's frame plug and play w/o frame modding?

My primary motivation for wanting an additional card is: travel insurance, trip delay insurance, lost baggage, purchase protection, primary rental car insurance. (Was comparing VX to CSR)
Additional benefit is lounge access, not just for myself but kids as well. (VX is the only card that still has priority lounge and you can add family)
Cell phone protection (VX plus Amex Aspire has this-- was considering adding ASPIRE as we frequently use Hilton points).
Future travel plans: one domestic + one international flight per year for next few years for four people. Domestic stay in Hilton.
I am trying to decide if I follow through with the VX application or pivot to CSR. Or try both for a year to compare which is a better fit? I probably would have gone in opposite order if I thought I was going the Chase route. That's why I'm very curious to hear the less quantifiable aspect of how everyone feels about the service they receive...

Hello! Our family will be in Bali for three weeks in June and July. There is a lot of conflicting information out there about cell phones in Bali, SIM cards, import duties etc etc…I wanted to start a post to get everything in one place.

1. If you have an ATT service with international plan, can you just use your Iphone while in Bali or do you have to get the SIM?
2. There’s a lot about getting a SIM card for your phone at the airport. Do you just buy the SIM card or do you have to buy a plan to go along with the SIM card?
3. If you have a new phone that doesn’t use SIM cards, there are posts about getting e-SIM cards, which sound more like apps. How does this work? Is it like a paid phone app that you call from on your phone?
4. Which eSIM app do you recommend?
5. I worry a little about downloading non-US apps and getting tracked or hacked. Should I be worried?
6. I’ve seen posts about import duties on tourists phones. How does that work…do we need to be worried if we are staying less than 30 days?

Finally: What would you recommend if you were in my shoes – two iphone 15s on ATT with an international plan? Thank you!

I write a lot about how the Biden-Harris administration is working to restore the principles of the period between 1933 and 1981, when members of both political parties widely shared the belief that the government should regulate business, provide a basic social safety net, promote infrastructure, and protect civil rights. And I write about how that so-called liberal consensus broke down as extremists used the Reconstruction-era image of the American cowboy—who, according to myth, wanted nothing from the government but to be left alone—to stand against what they insisted was creeping socialism that stole tax dollars from hardworking white men in order to give handouts to lazy minorities and women.
But five major stories over the past several days made me realize that I’ve never written about how Trump and his loyalists have distorted the cowboy image until it has become a poisonous caricature of the values its recent defenders have claimed to champion.
The cowboy myth originated during the Reconstruction era as a response to the idea that a government that defended Black rights was “socialist” and that the tax dollars required to pay bureaucrats and army officers would break hardworking white men.
This weekend, on Saturday, May 11, Paul Kiel of ProPublica and Russ Buettner of the New York Times teamed up to deliver a deep investigation into what Trump was talking about when he insisted that he must break tradition and refuse to release his tax returns when he ran for office in 2016 and 2020, citing an audit.
The New York Times had already reported that one of the reasons the Internal Revenue Service was auditing Trump’s taxes was that, beginning in 2010, he began to claim a $72.9 million tax refund because of huge losses from his failing casinos.
Kiel and Buettner followed the convoluted web of Trump’s finances to find another issue with his tax history. They concluded that Trump’s Chicago skyscraper, his last major construction project, was “a vast money loser.” He claimed losses as high as $651 million on it in 2008. But then he appears to have moved ownership of the building in 2010 from one entity to a new one—the authors describe it as “like moving coins from one pocket to another”—and used that move to claim another $168 million in losses, thereby double-dipping.
The experts the authors consulted said that if he loses the audit battle, Trump could owe the IRS more than $100 million. University of Baltimore law professor Walter Schwidetzky, who is an expert on partnership taxation, told the authors: “I think he ripped off the tax system.”
The cowboy myth emphasized dominance over the Indigenous Americans and Mexicans allegedly attacking white settlers from the East. On Friday an impressive piece of reporting from Jude Joffe-Block at NPR untangled the origins of a story pushed by Republicans that Democrats were encouraging asylum seekers to vote illegally for President Joe Biden in 2024, revealing that the story was entirely made up.
The story broke on X, formerly Twitter, on April 15, when the investigative arm of the right-wing Heritage Foundation, which promises to provide “aggressive oversight” of the Biden administration, posted photos of what it claimed were flyers from inside portable toilets at a migrant camp in Matamoros, Mexico, that said in broken Spanish: “Reminder to vote for President Biden when you are in the United States. We need another four years of his term to stay open.” The tweet thread got more than 9 million views and was boosted by Elon Musk, X’s owner.
But the story was fabricated. The flyer used the name of a small organization that helps asylum seekers, along with the name of the woman who runs the organization. She is a U.S. citizen and told Joffe-Block that her organization has “never encouraged people to vote for anyone.” Indeed, it has never come up because everyone knows noncitizens are not eligible to vote. The flyer had outdated phone numbers and addresses, and its Spanish was full of errors. Migrants who are staying at the encampment as they wait for their appointments to enter the U.S. say they have never seen such flyers, and no one has urged them to vote for Biden.
Digging showed that the flyer was “discovered” by the right-wing video site Muckraker, which specializes in “undercover” escapades. The founder of Muckraker, Anthony Rubin, and his brother, Joshua Rubin, had shown up at the organization’s headquarters in Matamoros asking to become volunteers for the organization; they and their conversation were captured on video, and signs point to the conclusion that they planted the flyers.
Nonetheless, Republicans ran with the story. Within 12 hours after the fake flyer appeared on X, Republican representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Dan Bishop (R-NC) brought posters of it to Congress, and Republicans made it a centerpiece of their insistence that Congress must pass a new law against noncitizen voting. Rather than being protected by modern-day cowboys, the woman who ran the organization that helps asylum seekers got death threats.
The cowboy image emphasized the masculinity of the independent men it championed, but the testimony of Stephanie Clifford, the adult film actress also known as Stormy Daniels, in Trump’s criminal trial for falsifying business records to cover up his payments to Clifford to keep her story of their sexual encounter secret before the 2016 election, turns Trump’s aggressive dominance into sad weakness. Covering Clifford’s testimony, Maureen Dowd of the New York Times yesterday wrote that “Trump came across as a loser in her account—a narcissist, cheater, sad Hugh Hefner wannabe, trading his satin pajamas for a dress shirt and trousers (and, later, boxers) as soon as Stormy mocked him.”
In the literature of the cowboy myth, the young champion of the underdog is eventually supposed to settle down and take care of his family, who adore him. But the news of the past week has caricatured that shift, too. On Wednesday, May 8, the Republican Party of Florida announced that it had picked Trump’s youngest son, 18-year-old Barron, as one of the state’s at-large delegates to the Republican National Convention, along with Trump’s other sons, Eric and Donald Jr.; Don Jr.’s fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle; and Trump’s second daughter, Tiffany, and her husband.
On Friday, May 10, Trump’s current wife and Barron’s mother, former first lady Melania Trump, issued a statement saying: “While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments.” It is hard not to interpret this extraordinary snub from his own wife and son as a chilly response to the past month of testimony about his extramarital escapades while Barron was an infant.
Finally, there was the eye-popping story broken by Josh Dawsey and Maxine Joselow in the Washington Post on Thursday, revealing that last month, at a private meeting with about two dozen top oil executives at Mar-a-Lago, Trump offered to reverse President Joe Biden’s environmental rules designed to combat climate change and to stop any new ones from being enacted in exchange for a $1 billion donation.
Trump has promised his supporters that he would be an outsider, using his knowledge of business to defend ordinary Americans against those elites who don’t care about them. Now he has been revealed as being willing to sell us out—to sell humanity out—for the bargain basement price of $1 billion (with about 8 billion people in the world, this would make us each worth about 12 and a half cents).
Chief White House ethics lawyer in the George W. Bush administration Richard Painter wrote: “This is called bribery. It’s a felony.” He followed up with “Even a candidate who loses can be prosecuted for bribery. That includes the former guy asking for a billion dollars in campaign cash from oil companies in exchange for rolling back environmental laws.”
The cowboy myth was always a political image, designed to undermine the idea of a government that worked for ordinary Americans. It was powerful after the Civil War but faded into the past in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s as Americans realized that their lives depended on government regulation and a basic social safety net. The American cowboy burst back into prominence with the advent of the Marlboro Man in 1954, the year of the Supreme Court’s Brown v. Board of Education decision, and the idea of an individual white man who worked hard, wanted nothing from the government but to be left alone, was a sex symbol, and protected his women became a central myth in the rise of politicians determined to overturn the liberal consensus.
Now it seems the myth has come full circle, with the party led by a man whose wife rejects him and whose lovers ridicule him, who makes up stories about dangerous “others,” cheats on his taxes, solicits bribes, and tries to sell out his followers for cash—the very caricature the mythological cowboy was invented to fight.

Although I have shared these very true stories with people in the past, it has only been through verbal communication. This is the first time that I've written (typed) them out, and actually seen them. I don't believe that I have a ton of insight into these experiences beyond what I'm telling you here, but happy to answer respectful questions. Maybe someday I'll get some regression therapy to see if there's anything that I may have hidden away in the corners of my mind, but I haven't yet. Anyway, enjoy!
I slowly, but also suddenly, regained awareness. I was standing in the middle of the bedroom with the lights on, my eyes already open, and no memory of how I physically came to be standing there. Despite this odd development, my brain was calm and quiet. Being forty-two at the time (2022), that detail was not too far out of the norm for me, after having practiced different Taoist meditation techniques ever since an especially difficult breakup in my early twenties. Because of this, my inner-monologue was generally within control; quiet when that was my intention and, aware and active when needed. Then, a voice that I did not recognize as my own, and all internally, spoke in a very clear manner the words:
“inter-dimensional being”.
Instantly, every cell in my body lit up with, what can only be described as, an electric energy. The hairs on my extremities stood up. It reminded me of the feeling right after a person sneezes, when their whole body tingles for a split second. But this, this was a far more intense and euphoric feeling. Just as quickly as the feeling came on, it ended.
I looked down, only to see my dog looking back up with what seemed to be a very confused look on her face. Before all this, the last thing I remembered was going through the process of falling asleep. How did I get here? I’ve never had a sleep-walking incident before. I had not drank, nor ingested any type of drugs that day. This really did not make much sense. I went to the night stand to check my phone for the time; 3am.
Laying back down, I tried to shake off the experience. My yellow lab jumped into bed, curled up next to me, and pressed her cold/wet nose against my hand; her gentle way of asking for some attention. Scratching her head, I took a deep breath and exhaled. This felt more normal, for sure. Due, in large part to my meditative practices, falling asleep was generally quite easy, and soon I drifted back off.
The next few days went by as usual; eat, gym, eat, work, eat, relax, repeat. Then, three days after that incident, something else happened. In the same manner as before, I regained awareness while just standing there, with my eyes already open. This time, I was outside on the back deck with a cup of coffee in my left hand. Again, I had zero recollection of any events leading up to this moment. I do not remember getting out of bed, walking down the stairs, making the coffee, unlocking and opening the heavy sliding glass door, or walking out to the deck railing. Also, similar to before, my brain was calm and quiet.
It was late summer in San Francisco, and Karl the fog was in my part of town. Although it was still dark, there was this beautiful predawn light starting to make an appearance. Just then, I noticed it. In the air, a few feet above the height of my own head and, between mine and the neighbors house that shared the back fence line with me; was this floating light. The shape was obscured by the fog, and the colors were only somewhat filtered. It had the same kind of color that pearls produce; looking like an off-white, but with short electrical bursts of pink, blue, green, purple, and yellow just kinda dancing there in the air. The light seemed to be slowly and silently drifting away from me, then eventually disappearing. This experience lasted maybe thirty seconds.
I didn't really know what to do. Again, my dog and I just looked at each other. Any dog owner knows that dogs staring at their owners is not unusual behavior by any means, but she just seemed terribly perplexed. I finished my coffee and got on with my day, because that was the only thing that I felt like I could do. There didn't seem to be any sense in getting all worked up over whatever had just happened. So, that's how that ended.
I’ve had two other strange experiences in my life, both happened prior to these that are described above. A few years before the previous experiences (possibly 2019) a friend and I were walking in San Francisco when I looked up, and below the top of the buildings was a cloud in the shape of a perfect triangle. It had straight lines, and sharp corners. I guess this could be some kind of anomalous cloud, that a person might only see once in a lifetime. But, I didn't think that clouds could produce perfect triangles. I pointed it out to my buddy, who is also interested in the phenomenon, and we commented on how odd it was. We got distracted by something, then when I looked back up, it was gone. Just, gone. So, we went on about our day.
And, the final story goes way back in my life. I was possibly 7 or 8 years old at this point (1987ish). My dad and I were taking a road trip out from Dallas to see his sister in Los Angeles. One evening, it was getting close to dark, and we were somewhere in an arid landscape. I was far too young to know where we were. It could have been Arizona, or maybe New Mexico.
I remember there being this large mountain north of the freeway we were using. This mountain was flat on top, mostly circular, and it had a large crescent moon shape cut out of it. As I was staring at this mountain from the passenger window, I saw a bright light come from behind the mountain. This light circled the entire mountain three times, then zoomed off and disappeared. I never said anything to my dad about it. So we just drove on.

I think my mom has Se, Ni, and Te.... but I'm unsure. Could use some insight! I feel way too close to the picture to get an idea. In no particular order:
NEED TO BE PRODUCTIVE + BUSY

• Absolutely cannot relax without doing something productive first, even on the weekends.
• Once told my cousin (who worked 5 days a week 7am-5pm) that she should look for part time shifts on the weekend since she has all that free time. I legit thought she was insane for believing that.
• I often don't tell my mom when I have an off day because otherwise she would expect me to still be productive otherwise.

UNSOLICITED ADVICE IN STEAMROLL KIND OF WAY

• She's very quick to help give advice to someone, but it's often unsolicited and also quite forceful. Instead of suggesting it gently, her wording is more like "you should do this, then tell them that, you have to also do this or else it'll cause you trouble." She means well, I just don't think it's appreciated or welcome
• Also does not realize that her advice is unsolicited. Which is ironic because she expects emotional support and sometimes lashes out at me if I just give advice, yet she does the same and doesn't realize.
• Really reminds me of Leslie Knope from Parks and Rec for this trait.

DEFINITELY JUST KNOWS THINGS

• Showed my mom this korean tv show, Fantastic Duo, where several contestants perform together and the artist of the song picks one to sing a duet with. Within legit 5 seconds of it starting, my mom pointed to one contestant and said "seems like she'll get picked" and she was right. I was shocked. I showed her another clip and she also immediately pinpointed the right person.
• When I asked her how she knows, she said she always has been able to know things like this without explanation. According to her, it just comes to her suddenly.

VERY ANXIOUS ABOUT THE FUTURE

• This might be an excessive amount for a function, but she's constantly anxious and she very easily spirals. She'll be fine one moment, then if I bring something up, she'll immediately spiral and won't stop ruminating about it even though I said it's fine and not a big deal.
• Also constantly worries abut making the wrong decision. Even if she made the right decision, she'll sometimes be like "What if we chose the other decision?" The reasoning for this seems to be more that she's considering too many perspectives and cannot decide what the overall right choice is.
• My perspective of her anxiety is that nothing can get her out of the muck. If I give her objective reasoning, it only temporarily relieves it and I can see it. She'll firmly say "yes you're right" with relief, but you can tell she still only says it tentatively compared to her usual self.
• Continuously repeats topics and points over and over within one conversation. Or she'll say ABC, then we move on, then a short bit later we come back to the conversation and she'll repeat ABC even if I provided moral support and logical reasoning to try to relieve her thoughts. Her repetitive points on her pain points go nowhere and is also never solved.

FIERY, AMBITIOUS PERSON

• Always been hot-headed and fiery, both in temper and passion. She has this aggression in her to want to get things done. Very Type A kind of person.
• The kind of person to thrive off of negative feedback so she can be like "I'll fucking show you"
• Constantly comparing herself to others like "oh this person has good traits, I should be like that too" or "this person's trait is bad, I know now to not be like that."
• The kind of person to say "there are no stupid questions" but then you ask one and she'll say "use your fucking head, what a stupid question"

RARELY SEES HERSELF IN THE WRONG, BUT EVENTUALLY SELF-REFLECTS

• Self-explanatory, but she very rarely sees herself as wrong. She is stubborn and will hold steadfast to her opinions and beliefs in the moment. I don't think I've ever heard her apologize, and especially not admit she was wrong in the moment unless there's concrete proof.
• That said, if you give her time to brood about it, she'll come around and admit you have a point. She still won't apologize, but she'll say it in a "I get it, objectively it's right" kind of way.
• E.g., she got PISSED at me a couple years ago for not making a big deal on mother's day. Then some months later, she and I were talking and she said "I even told the friend that we have to be understanding of our own actions. I got mad at Gorgo about not celebrating mother's day once, but then I later realized I can't blame her. We never celebrate holidays and I don't do anything big for her birthday either, so why should I have expected her to celebrate mother's day?"
• It was like an indirect admittance through an irrelevant conversation she had, something she never brought up with me.

CARES TOO MUCH WHAT OTHERS THINK

• Yes to what society thinks, but I mean this mostly with personal relationships. If she has to make a decision that benefits some people and not the others, she worries way too much how the unfavored people in the group will be impacted.
• One time we ordered custom clothing from a store, and we weren't very happy with the end result. The tip amount was up to us, so I stood firm on a certain amount. My mom objectively sided with me, but emotionally wondered if we should give more because even though the result wasn't good, the store owner still went through all that trouble.
• I feel like this goes hand in hand with her anxiety.

USED TO BE SPONTANEOUS AS HELL WHEN YOUNGER

• My mom has all these wild stories of her when she was younger. She'd be traveling across the country with her friends by train, then randomly she'd get off at a stop and be like "okay I'll see you guys back at home! I actually wanna get off here" shocking her friends. And this was pre-cell phone times too. My mom today cannot fathom how she never got kidnapped or something.
• Once, she got tuberculosis and had to be hospitalized for some days. Once she was discharged, she went straight to the salon, got her hair done, and went to the club to dance lol
• Definitely was the leader of her friend group and everyone always relied on her for fun and plans
• She no longer is like this. Could be due to growing up, could also be due to the after effects of depression she had a few years ago. More of a homebody now.

KEEN EYE FOR AESTHETICS

• I've always believed that if my mom led her ideal life, she'd be an interior designer. She has an eye for things, and I don't know how to describe it.
• One time, we were figuring out what to do with this blank spot in my room. We fiddled around for a bit, then she had an idea, went downstairs, hauled up the large ottoman we had and placed it there. Looked great immediately and has been there ever since!
• I don't remember this, but she has told me how everyone would compliment the outfits she'd pick out for me, or the younger girls at work would compliment my mom on her outfits. And genuine compliments, not fake ones, as she says.

MISC.

• Not into fantasy/sci-fi. You will never catch her watching that genre. She likes political movies, action, based on true stories, spicy romance.
• Not into deep talk. Very much talks about strictly relationships/people, productivity/how to be your best self either internally or externally, etc.
• Very spiritual and religious (buddhism).
