2024.04.29 02:14 gamecompass_ Registeel: PvP deepdive.

Registeel: PvP deepdive.
TL;DR: Registeel has always been a staple in the PvP meta, something that will (most likely) always be true. There are 3 main things that keep it in check at the moment:
  • The rise of Gligar
  • The matchup against Lickitung is highly dependent on IVs
  • The fact that Registeel is a premium pokemon.
Note: I'm basing most of this analysis on the results of the app I'm developing: gamecompass.gg. Keep in mind that I literally released the first draft of the app today, so I apologize if it looks a bit simple and lacks some functionality. I'll keep updating it.
If I need something for the analysis that I haven't implemented in my app (yet!) I'll use some other source for the info and provide proper citations. Mainly gamepress.gg and pvpoke.com
Kinda late to the party with this one. I want to post this earlier in the week but I got stuck at work, and I found a bug in the app, so I had to re-run the simulations.

First things first: is it actually good?

To keep things simple: yes, Registeel is good; in fact, it is very good. For the current season it has Rank #26 for the Great league and Rank #14 for the Ultra league. It can't realistically participate on the Master league.
Note: Last week I posted something similat to TheSilphRoad. I found a typo in the table that my app uses for the simulations. I fixed the typo an re-ran the simulations; that's why there's a slight difference in the rankings in both posts.
Great League rank in gamecompass.gg
https://preview.redd.it/1tx8w7lrcaxc1.png?width=572&format=png&auto=webp&s=3220ba0a045ec888ce1c8c383431c6109972124f
Why? Two main reasons: bulk and resistances. Registeel is one of the bulkiest pokemons in the meta. And its Steel typing means that it has a whopping 11 resistances:
Registeel also has access to Lock On, the fast attack with the highest energy generation in the game. Which it absolutely needs, as its charge attacks are quite expensive. I don't have a fancy chart to show here, I plan to add a "Speed" chart to the app in the future.

IV analysis

I think this will probably be the most polarizing part of the post. So, let's tackle it step by step.
Stat product comparison by catching method.
This is the most common way to compare IVs, used by apps like stadium.gg and Poke Genie. It is a simple multiplication of the stats of the pokemon (attack * defense * stamina). Because of the mathematical formula used to calculate the CP of a pokemon, this means lowering the attack IV as much as possible, while increasing the defense and stamina IVs.
We also have to keep in mind that different ways to obtain pokemons will provide a different minimum floor for the IVs:
  • Raids: 10 IV minimum
  • Best friends trade: 5 IV minimum (800 stardust cost)
  • Good friends trade: 1 IV minimum (20,000 stardust cost)
This means that the best IV combination can only be obtained when traiding with a new friend, which can quickly become expensive for both players.
But, what is the actual difference in the stat product? I added a table that shows this to my app:
Percentual difference between different IV combinations on the Great League
Percentual difference between different IV combinations on the Ultra League
For the pictures above, I set the IV combination to the Rank 1 good friend combination of each league. As you can see, there is only around a 3% difference in the stat product if you use a Rank 1 IV combination directly from a raid instead of trying to maximize the stat product by trading with a friend.
What can we conclude from this? Basically almost nothing. Comparing the stat product is meant as an easy and quick way to rank IV combinations, but it tells us little of the actual performance of the different IVs. That's why I added some other tables.
Comparing IVs for Charge Move Priority (CMP) events.
A CMP event occurs when both players throw their charge attack at the same time. Good players can force a CMP event, which in turn forces the opponent to either take the damage (and threaten a KO) or use a shield. Winning a CMP event can be the difference between victory and defeat.
We can increase the likelihood of winning a CMP event by increasing the IV attack of our pokemon. Here are the pokemons Registeel can compete with for a CMP event in the Great League:
Comparing the attack stat difference between Registeel 2/13/14 in the Great League
Comparing the attack stat difference between Registeel 11/15/15 in the Great League
Of course, Jumpluff and Probopass aren't really important in this case, as Registeel can easily defeat them. Diggersby on the other hand can actually be a risk to Registeel, as it has access to Fire Punch and Scorching Sands, both moves deal super-effective damage to Registeel. But as Diggersby isn't that common on the open Great League, it really isn't worth it to try to increase Registeel's attack only for this matchup.
For the Ultra League, the list is event less important. With a maximum CP of 2417, Mandibuzz isn't that common on the open Ultra League, so we really shouldn't worry about this.
Important note: The comparisons are made against the Rank 1 IV combination of the opponent's pokemon. If the opponent uses an IV combination different that the rank 1, the CMP event might not be flipped. I plan to extend the functionality of this section in the future.
Comparing IVs by the damage done by Lock on
Increasing the attack IV of our pokemon can increase the attack done by our fast attacks and charge attacks. But in the case of Registeel, this isn't really possible.
Lock on is the move with the highest energy generation in the game, but to balance this, it has some of the lowest damage. In fact, the only reason it deals damage at all in some cases is because the damage formula has a minimum output of 1.
So it doesn't make any sense to try to maximize the damage done by Lock on.
Comparing IVs by the damage taken from fast attacks
This is the most problematic part of the analysis, mainly because of the implications.
First is important to understand the metric the table shows: HP%/s. This is the percentage of your total HP (or stamina) the opponent pokemon will do each second. This means that if an opponent does 1 HP%/s to your pokemon with their fast attack, it will take exactly 100 second for your pokemon to faint from fast attacks only.
I'm using HP% to differentiate some nuances. Let's imagine Pokemon A with 100 HP, and Pokemon B with 70 HP. And imagine we have a fast attack that does 5 points of damage every second to both pokemons. If we simply show this as 5 damage per second, it would seem that both pokemons take the same damage. But if we show it as a percentage of their max HP, Pokemon A takes 5 HP%/s, while pokemon B takes 7.14 HP%/s. We can see that Pokemon B will faint faster.
I'm normalizing the damage to 1 second to make it easier to compare fast moves with different duration. E.g. Lick with 1 turn vs Incinerate with 5 turns.
The table makes a comparison between the damage received by the rank 1 IV of Registeel vs whichever IV combination you enter in the app. In this case I set it up to the Rank 1 IV combination that can be obtained directly from raids: 11/15/15
Comparing damage received by a Registeel 11/15/15 in the Great League
Again, the middle column shows the HP%/s received by Registeel with 2/13/14, and the final column shows the HP%/s received by the IVs I set in the app, in this case 11/15/15.
Forretress (Shadow) isn't that common in the open Great League, but Lickitung is. This match is rather important, as Lickitung is one of the most common safe switches in the game.
This doesn't really happen in the Ultra League, so at least we don't have to worry about it.
Important note: The comparisons are made using opponents with Rank 1 IVs, so a Lickitung with 8/14/15. Actual performance will vary depending on the IVs used by the enemy. I have some preeliminary plans to improve the app to handle different IVs for the enemies.

Deeper dive: Registeel vs Lickitung.

This is a new section that I added to the post, that isn't included in the previous one. I made all the charts manually; but I'm working to add this charts to the app, so you can check IV combinations of any pokemon.
To fully understand what happens in this matchup, we first need to understand how the game calculates damage. It does it with this formula:
Damage formula, taken from gamepress.gg
Where:
  • Power is the base damage done by the attack. In this case, Lick has 3 base damage.
  • Attack is the attack stat of the attacker, in this case Lickitung
  • Defense is the defense stat of the defender, in this case Registeel
  • Multipliers include STAB and supereffectivenes, but in this case it only includes
Of course, the attack and defense of the pokemons depend completely on their IV's, and there are houndreds of possible IV combinations. As most players try to maximize the stat product, let's use that metric for our calculations. If we take a look to the top 250 IV combinations for Lickitung by stat product, we can find two IV combinations we can focus on:
  • 8/14/15: This is the IV combination with the highest stat product. Most players will attempt to have similar IVs. It has an attack of 97.47
  • 14/13/13: This is the IV combination with the highest attack, that still is within the top 250 IV combinations by stat product. It has an attack of 100.38. It is unlikely that players will go for this IV combination, but we can use it for our calculations.
Now that we have all the necessary information, we can substitute the data in the formula. Let's do it first for the Lickitung with the highest stat product, X is Registeel's defense:
Damage formula for 8/14/15 Lickitung
With some basic maths, we can simplify this expression:
https://preview.redd.it/0jvcy486oaxc1.png?width=133&format=png&auto=webp&s=9a1108f7ade0dfd1e25b3db7aabfef868d6d3be0
This means that Registeel needs at least 190.068 defense to reach the necessary bulkpoint to reduce Lick's damage from 2 to 1.
Now, let's look at the same formula, but this time using an attack weighted Lickitun (14/13/13):
Damage formula for 14/13/13 Lickitung
Which simplified is:
https://preview.redd.it/mzzt6a0j2bxc1.png?width=155&format=png&auto=webp&s=964e89010620fede3614fee3ec6297dce335c083
This means that Registeel needs at least 195.742 defense to reach the bulkpoint.
With these values stablished, we can now look at how Registeel's defense varies depending on different catching methos:
Registeel from raids
A registeel obtained directly from raids has a minimum IV floor of 10. In the chart, the horizontal line is the IV rank by stat product, the vertical line is the Defense stat of that IV combination. The Red line is the necessary defense to reach the bulkpoint vs Lickitun (8/14/15); the Yellow line is the necessary defense to reach the bulkpoint against an attack weighted Lickitun (14/13/13).
You can interpert this as the rulers that are sometimes used for roller coasters: "You need to be this tall to ride". In this case is "You need to have this much defense to reach the bulkpoint".
Defense stat of the top 25 IV combination from raids for Registeel.
As you can clearly see, there isn't a single IV combination that reaches the necessary bulkpoint.
Registeel from Best Friends trade
When traiding with a best friend, the minimum IV floor is 5, which allows you to reach a higher stat product:
https://preview.redd.it/bcryswbe4bxc1.png?width=991&format=png&auto=webp&s=eee5063a8cffd539d4ab8b029b45f92d41ac833d
In this case, there are several IV combinations that reach the necessary defense stat to fight against a Rank 1 Lickitung, but there is still a big gap against an attack weighted Lickitung
Registeel from good friends.
When traiding with a new friend, the minimum IV floor is 1. This is the only way to obtain IV combinations with the highest stat product.
https://preview.redd.it/b8alfbg55bxc1.png?width=991&format=png&auto=webp&s=9741c95fd32920e8bd9d6aed5c12b567c447c8e8
Most of the IV combination reach the necessary bulkpoint to reduce Lick's damage. But only from Lickitungs with low attack.
But this graph shows something worrisome. Look at the rank 12 Registeel (1/3/15). While its stat product is relatively high, is defense is actually low. If we check the performance using PvPoke's simulator, we can see that some shielding scenarios are flipped:
Source: PvPoke simulator
This specific match shows one of the problems of simply using Stat product to compare IV combinations. It gives the same weight to all 3 stats. This is always the ideal case, as some pokemons want more defense (like Registeel). While some pokemons actually want more attack (Like Shadow Dragonite). Still, stat product comparizon continues to be the easiest way to check IV combinations.
I want to add several tools to the app that will allow you to do analysis like this one, but I'm still working on it.
Summary
  • This means that a Registeel obtained directly from raids cannot reach the necessary defensive breakpoint to reduce the damage taken form Lickitung's Lick.
  • This means that while a Registeel with 2/13/14 can easily defeat Lickitung, a Registeel with 11/15/15 will actually loose. I haven't uploaded my battling algorithm to my app, so these are simulations on pvpoke.
  • This means that if you use a Registeel obtained from raids, you can't safe switch into a Lickitung.

Are there any drawbacks?

Yes, while Registeel is a powerful pokemon in PvP, it has some problems: its lack of fast attack pressure and its current place in the meta.
Lack of fast attack pressure
Lock on provides some of the best energy generation in the game, but it does basically no damage. This means that Registeel depends completely on its charge attacks and will struggle to finish of opponents with low HP.
This even happen in last year's World's Grand Finals, in a battle between itsAXN and xXRubixMasterXx. xXRubixMasterXx ended up with a full health Registeel, but itsAXN had 3 pokemons with low HP. Registeel couldn't knock out any one of them.
Current place in the meta
Let's look at the top 12 pokemons by usage in the last 3 official tournaments:
https://preview.redd.it/ndjd3odleavc1.png?width=1931&format=png&auto=webp&s=3428200fcf2bb4dd93901c7825915e4a809a0525

I plan to add a section for this on the app, in the mean time you can see the tournaments in the official youtube channel.
Just like Medicham a while ago, Gligar has become the most popular pokemon. Its typing means that it will resist Registeel's charge attacks, and in return it has access to Dig to deal super effective damage. The rise of Gligar means that players are using Skarmory instead of Registeel. Skarmory will be able to do some neutral damage, while resisting all attacks from Gligar.
Of course, this could change in the next season, when a new patch might (emphasis on might) lower Gligar's usage.

Conclusions

  • Registeel is a powerful pokemon that will certainly improve your PvP teams, both for the Great League and the Ultra League.
  • It is a premium pokemon, so please be aware of how much you spend while trying to obtain it and/or improve its IVs.
  • The main reason to use a Registeel obtained by trading vs using one obtained from Raids is to improve the Lickitung matchup.
  • The popularity of Gligar means that it might be safer to use Skarmory as your steel pokemon, but it is still very valid to use Registeel in your team.
  • There isn't any major problem when using a raid Registeel in the Ultra League, so you shouldn't obsess over it.
  • Remember, first focus on obtaining a good enough Registeel, and then you can try to perfect it. This is specially true if your resources are limited. Once again be careful of how much money you spend.
Last note: Like I said, I just released the first version of my app gamecompass.gg. It is a passion project I'm developing on my free time. Let me know if you find any errobugs or if you have any suggestions to improve it. I can't promise a specific schedule, but I'll do my best.
My first priority for the moment is to add similar charts to the ones I posted here, so you can check for bulkpoint/breakpoints in specific matches.

2024.04.29 02:13 CaezarAlexander CaezarDot's Madden 24 Pro Level Sliders (CPU vs CPU) *UPDATED*

Hello, my fellow CPU vs CPU franchise fans. I'm back with some updated sliders. I took a few suggestions into account, as well as added a few tweaks here and there. And I gotta say, I'm pretty happy with the results.
I was previously having some issues with RB's being too productive, as well as games being a little too high scoring. However, with the few changes I made, I believe it took care of a lot of those issues.
You'll still run into a few games where your offense goes off, but not for anything too unrealistic, and it seems to be against weaker teams. (I've only seen this happen once and it was after a few changes to sliders so that could've made the difference.)
With all that said, here are the long awaited sliders! Any and all feedback is welcome. đź’Ż

2024.04.29 02:10 WA-3rdPartySupporter Jill Stein: I was arrested last night

Jill Stein: I was arrested last night
From Jill:
Last night didn’t end up the way I planned.
By now you’ve probably seen the headlines reading “Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein arrested at Pro-Palestine rally” (or some less flattering variations).
Here’s the full story.
First and foremost: My team and I are okay. Bruised and battered, and with some legal issues to resolve. But we are out. We are okay. And we are undeterred.
Yesterday, my team and I were invited by students at Washington University in St. Louis to visit their Gaza Solidarity encampment. We gladly accepted this invitation.
Once there, it was apparent that tensions were escalating quickly. The student organizers asked us to intercede with university officials to try and de-escalate the coming confrontation. Again, we gladly accepted this responsibility.
But authorities were having none of it. The scene was tense from the beginning, and it was clear that a crackdown was inevitable.
The students asked us to link arms and block access to their encampment by police. And we did.
We braced for impact, but nothing prepared me for what came next.
Pictured left to right: Jill Stein, Deputy CM Kelly Merrill-Cayer, St. Louis Board Alderman Alisha Sommier, St. Louis Board Alder President Megan Green, and Campaign Manager Jason Call.
A total of six police departments assembled on the scene. As they advanced on us, they used their bicycles as weapons against us.
One officer grabbed my arm, glared at me, and roughly pulled me towards him with a bicycle in between us. My campaign manager interceded, shouting at him that he was going to break my arm, until he let go.
We were then violently thrown to the ground, zip-cuffed, and placed under arrest.
In the hours that followed, I was separated from the remainder of my team. They were charged with trespassing, and I was charged with assault – despite the fact I was assaulted by police with a bicycle and then thrown to the ground.
We were arrested around 7:30pm local time and released around 1:30am. You can catch my interview with local news here.
[WATCH NOW]
Let us understand exactly what transpired here:
The students of Washington University have established an encampment to protest the school’s financial holdings in Boeing, which is producing some of the munitions being used against the people of Gaza just a few miles away in their St. Charles facility.
The students are exercising their constitutionally protected right to free expression to pressure their university to divest from death.
The university’s response is to violently assault and incarcerate anyone who dares speak out.
The students are in the right here, as they always are. I am proud to stand by their side as the ONLY pro-peace, anti-genocide, pro-worker candidate slated to be on the ballot across the country this November.
Today I am tired, I am bruised, I am battered – but I am undeterred in my resolve to stop Israel’s genocide and end their illegal occupation of Palestine.
This is not my first protest arrest, but it was unnervingly violent. What we are experiencing on university campuses across the nation right now is a pale shadow of what is to come if the twin parties of war and Wall Street are allowed to remain in power.
I urge you to contribute to our campaign today and make sure EVERY American has a pro-peace candidate on the ballot in November.
[DONATE NOW]
If you have the opportunity to join an encampment near you, I urge you to do so. The more community support these students have, the harder it will be for university authorities or police officials to justify their actions to crush this dissent.
In solidarity and gratitude,
Jill

2024.04.29 02:03 Outrageous_Round8415 Replacing Well

Hunter main here wanting to free the warlocks who feel caged to well and educate all classes on why we don’t need it. Get ready for a BIG read because I am about to show why we don’t need well half as bad as we think we do.
I have been through quite a few sherpas in my time and have gotten people through their first ever encounters, and have also done a couple of low man runs in my time. Some of these you have to do without well for.
Given well is going to be nerfed anyways and I am overall tired of the community’s standpoint on this matter, I am going to provide a list of alternatives for well. I will not only provide alternatives for survivability but also the damage buff that well provides. Following that, a list of applications to all raid boss encounters.
Damage buff: Lumina: 35% damage buff (higher than well) Ward of dawn: 25% damage buff (same as well, some people still don’t know that) Boots of the assembler (can work with lumina to provide its buff passively. Good if you are just spamming envious bait and switch Edge Transit) Radiant: 25% (Same as well, anyone with a solar melee can proc this. Hunters can do it with a dodge. Lightweight knife grants it to yourself only) Empowering rift (15%, lower than well but worth noting anyways)
Survivability: There was so much here that I divided it amongst classes. I had to shorten the list because titans had so many self healing options that I decided to keep it to ally benefits (yes this is the shortened list)
All- Release recover (only really available in Explicator, but worth noting) Healing grenades (not always good for the time it takes away from dps but handy in a pinch) Lumina (heals the target ally to full)
Titan- Bastion titan (best used with a rally barricade) Banner of war (biggest weakness is the timer really) Precious scars (more for ad clear really. The reason I am noting this one is because it does heal allies) Pheonix cradle (how many of you forgot this was an exotic? Pop super and do damage and psuedo well) Banner shield (the damage bonus may not equate to the damage lost, but who know, maybe this will become more useful following the changes to well in the final shape. Figured I would cover my bases. Usra furiosa makes this recharge real fast) Ward of dawn (throw on helm of saint 14 for overshields) Citan’s ramparts (this isn’t much since the shield has been nerfed so many times but again, covering bases and all) Crest of alpha lupi
Warlock- Healing rift Boots of the assembler The stag Edge of intent (fire and swap off for dps)
Hunter- Renewal Grasps Mothkeeper’s wraps (hardly something I would pick but again, covering all my bases here) Blight ranger (people may scoff but with power preservation and the right scenario, you can actually instantly fill an ally’s super immediately after they use it. Similar issue to banner shield but again, may be more useful after the final shape) Omnioculus (Not what I would pick for raids but quite handy for content where you are likely to die in one shot like GMs) Tether (this may seem odd until you remember the current top strats for onslaught. Can catch any ads near a boss easily)
Encounter applications: Here I will also provide a list of every raid boss encounter in destiny and at least one survivability strategy I have listed that can help.
Vow- Caretaker: Rhulk: If we are being honest. 50% of us or less even used well. Dodging his attacks
Last wish- Kalli: She literally doesn’t shoot you during dps. Shuro Chi: Dps phases didn’t last long enough for well to be all that vital. If you die to shuro chi’s damage, you know you have done something wrong Ogre: You only really should be worrying about the balls. Funnily enough citan’s should be better than a well here as I have still died to self rocketing on the balls he creates. Riven: Riven doesn’t shoot you during dps
DSC- Crypt security (it has a healthbar and a dps phase): This doesn’t really shoot you during dps. Bring tether for ad control or really anything control based. Atraks-1: DPS lasts ~3 seconds. You don’t really take any damage here. You also move around too much for it to be worth it. Let them nova all they like. Taniks the abomination: This guy is a bit of a stinker but he doesn’t do much damage. As little as a bastion rally barricade works fine.
King’s fall- Warpriest: He hurts a decent amount but I have succeeded with little issue with only renewal grasps before. Surely a healing rift or something is enough. Golgoroth: You do move a lot here so something like boots of the assembler or even precious scars works pretty good (due to the ads) Sisters: Here is where I learned of blight ranger’s ability to help my teammates. The constant fire provided by the ads generated a ton of orbs. Aside from that this one is a bit tougher requiring healing and a source of damage reduction. Oryx the taken king: Oryx sits there during dps.
Vault of Glass- Templar: Honestly a rift does fine. This guy doesn’t hit very hard and there are good spots to do dps from that aren’t right in his face. Atheon: Here a tether works very well as it will control the harpies that spawn in during dps. Bring healing or bastion for atheon’s damage.
Garden of Salvation- Consecrated mind: This guy doesn’t do much. Not to mention you need to move after the first few seconds. From there a lunafaction’s rift is helpful because the boss moves so quickly. Sanctified mind: Here well is a bit more crucial if you really don’t like building platforms. If you actually play the game the way it was intended though, the boss is completely stunned during dps.
Root of Nightmares- Explicator: Release recover can help a lot here with granting the extra healing needed. Healing nades in between each phase also helps. Nezarec: We honestly don’t take much damage here anyways on the flowers. There are multiple spaces where he won’t go. Not to mention a few areas he gets completely stuck in.
Crota’s end- Ir yut: The only encounter where well becomes possibly “necessary”. Even still a tether can take care of a surprising amount. The main trouble is Ir Yut’s damage as a wizard herself. This one I need to test. Crota: Banner of war, swordguarding, stunning with burning maul. In fact, bubble also does just as much if not more than well here since crota can break well a lot faster.
One final tip: Well actually reduces golden gun damage by preventing the radiant bonus from working. So pop it, step out to fire if you have a well.
And that is it. My massive guide on how to NOT use well and free the warlocks. I hope this was at least insightful in some way.

2024.04.29 02:00 Mahbows Daily Challenge for Non-Cheaters - April 29, 2024

Link to the Daily Challenge
This is a place for Reddit users to submit their scores for the official Daily Challenge (hopefully) without the results being tarnished by cheaters. This should be played as a [2] -- zooming/rotating, moving allowed but external assistance is prohibited. Feel free to leave any walkthroughs in your comments, concealed with a spoiler tag.
A bot will keep a leaderboard for the month. You'll notice two columns related to your scoring performance. The first of these columns is labeled Average and represents your average score among all games throughout the month. The second column is labeled Score and represents either: 1. The average of your top 15 performances, or 2. Your average score divided by 15 (if you have played less than 15 games). The leaderboard is sorted by Score. At the end of the month, the highest Score will be declared the winner, and the leaderboard will reset for the next month.
Why do we keep score this way? There were 3 potential options for scorekeeping:
  1. Straight Average -- flawed because a player who only plays once but scores 25000 would likely win for the month.
  2. Cumulative Total -- flawed because it unfairly favors those who are able to play every and is a severe disadvantage to those who miss even a single day.
  3. Score of top 15 -- the method currently in use, it allows for some leeway for those not able to play daily, but at the same time, it's beneficial to those who are able to play more than 15 times. After 15 plays, each new score will bump out the previous lowest score.
The Daily Challenge resets at midnight UTC, which coincides with the time that this post will go live each day. So essentially, make sure that you're commenting your score with its corresponding post.

2024.04.29 01:58 EuropesNinja The Psychological Impacts of Stuttering

Edit: this is a long read but if you’re struggling I think it might help.
Stuttering can be a struggle, sometimes an unbearable one. Understandably so, it’s difficult. Other people seem to have things so easy, especially when a lot of life is about verbal communication. Forming connections can be tough. Bullying in school especially, school during adolescence especially is brutal. The workplace can be the same but I’ve found most people are relatively understanding, there’s always the one or two though. And it gets easier as you get older to some extent. But it stays a prevalent part of a lot of our lives.
Stuttering can be traumatic, I personally believe it can bring about symptoms of C-PTSD.
We’ve all had situations where we have been humiliated and then at the same time we can’t even defend ourselves. So many moments when we couldn’t even fight back.
There is a powerlessness related to a lot of situations in our lives. These moments of powerlessness are actually traumatic. They leave lasting wounds on our psyche than impact so many aspects of our lives. These situations can reduce self esteem, can lead to self image issues and even depression. Social anxiety and social isolation can also be a major consequence.
We dig ourselves into a hole, especially because a stutter can be unpredictable, will today be easier than yesterday? We can even make life decisions based on our stutter. Choosing a career path based on what job will have the least social interaction. The hole can get deep.
If you’re reading this and struggling, during some of my adolescence I was a very severe stutterer. To the point that singular sentences could take 5 minutes to finish. Complete exhaustion after even interacting with my family. Constantly checking the dictionary for easier words to use. I can understand the darkest places with a stutter. It can be demoralising and exhausting.
I’ve been there and I’ve come out of it. My stutter has improved over the years by putting a lot of effort into challenging the fear related to stuttering. But the most improvement I’ve had is when I’ve begun dealing with the psychological aspects.
Finding a good therapist you relate to and researching the form of therapy you think would work best for you is game changing. It takes a while to find the right therapy type and you might need to shop around for therapists. But, once you get professional help psychologically - things get so much easier. If you can’t afford therapy, find books written by licensed therapists. I especially recommend trauma-informed therapy related books. Most of us who lack self esteem issues and depression need to work on what is freezing you in the emotional state you are in. “The Body Keeps the Score” is a great place to start, also Dr Gabor Mate has a lot of great speeches.
If you can work on the lack of self worth, the inner critic, your confidence, and mental health generally, your stutter begins to weigh less on the soul.
There’s a lot of misinformation around therapy, but there are a lot of therapists out there who really try and understand your world. A good therapist will actually make you come to realisations yourself.
There’s a world where stuttering doesn’t have to impact your choices any more, or your mental health. You can build around it, it is possible to get past it. Because at the end of the day you just have a stutter, it’s just the cards that have been dealt. But improving your mental health and life irregardless of it is important. It’s difficult, it takes time, but it does and will get better if you dedicate yourself to it.
You deserve a voice, everyone does, and you deserve to be heard regardless of how you say it or how long it takes to say. Improving your life regardless of it and getting professional help for mental health will allow you to internalise the following idea - “I deserve love, kindness and respect regardless of the how I communicate. And people who don’t have patience and understanding for me are undeserving of my attention”.
At the end of the day there’s two choices, you can try and do everything you can to improve what you can change (your mental health) or continue to focus on what you cannot change (your stutter). The latter option can cause us to not live our life the way we want to, and it would be unfortunate to miss the one opportunity we do have on this planet.
Honestly as well, improving my mental health has made speaking much more relaxed now. I still stutter, but at least the embarrassment and anxiety is manageable or sometimes non-existent.
If anyone wants to chat about this all further feel free to DM. I just thought I’d give some helpful words to those struggling because I really feel for you.

2024.04.29 01:42 TheLuckyEXE Ikeaframe tips i find useful

I know some people probably made simmular posts but i feel like sharing some experience time to time can be benefitial, even if repeated.
Not long ago i started decorating my orbiter from boredom. I didn't know any advanced techniques or anything, just what i observed overtime and occasionaly seen. This led me to innovate my own ways of helping me decorate. Some people may know these and some may not, i'd love to know some others apart from those i mention.
1)Oubliette trick: this one is weird. I have my oubliette from nightwave placed and it works as an "anchor" for other items. You can place the oub somewhere in "red zone" and put item on top of it (basically inside it) without it being blocked by zone.
2)Using posters to double check straightness: kind of self explanatory, placing random poster to check if something is in line.
3)Utilizing advanced movement: What i mean is moving items on axis. Pressing "R" on placed object and "y" or "z" (depends on keyboard) to switch to local movement and clip stuff OOB. And using 45° rotation to get perfect 90° angles on stuff.
Those are tricks i naturally came up with, feel free to let me know about some you find useful. *Writing on phone in deep night so please excuse any grammar errors.

Jelly Roll Twist - finished quilt top!
Followed the Jelly Roll Twist free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop. Used Slow Stroll by Moda jelly roll and Kona Cotton Solids in the Snow color story.
My quilt top is a little smaller than the pattern calls for because I trimmed my blocks to square them up where the pattern does not call for that. Glad I did because the rows came together so fast! Current top is 48 x 56, thinking about a border to add a few inches to all sides.

2024.04.29 01:38 CameronSingsStuff Am I the jerk for spraying my 8-year-old cousin with water after he repeatedly knocked over our Jenga tower?

If you want the summary of the story, my birthday party was recently as I am writing this. We went to a nice spot in nature with some tables and chairs. It was a fun party, until about halfway into the party. We decided to play Jenga and my cousin kept knocking over the tower. Eventually, I had enough and poked a hole in the cap of my water bottle and sprayed him with the water.
Notable characters in this story are OP (me), T1 (the cousin who kept being disruptive), T2 (the disruptive cousin's twin), and C (other cousin), and U (T1 and T2's dad).
After having some soda, we decided to play a game. I went to the game bag and grabbed Jenga. For the people who don't know, Jenga is a game where you stack blocks and each turn you take one off the tower and put it on the top. The person who knocks over the tower loses.
So me, T1, T2, and C started playing and it went fine for a round. Then, the second round started. We reassembled the tower and T1 then decided to throw his hat at the tower. I scolded him for about 5 seconds, but didn't think too much of it. Then he threw his hat a second time. Then I said "If you do that one more time, I'm throwing that hat across the road.
So we reassembled the tower AGAIN and T1 decided to take off his shoe and throw it at the tower. Then, he argued that "You'd only throw my hat across the road, not my shoe!" In response, I just flipped the tower over and stormed off. But since this was my party, it felt too awkward to just be away from it. T2 rebuttled by saying "You made OP mad! Stop!" I thought this was the end of it, so I just brushed it off.
About an hour later, I got bored and decided to turn my water bottle into a water gun by poking a hole in it with my Grandma's pen. I kept jokingly spraying the grass and empty tables, and then I got the idea for revenge. I walked up to T1, who was joking around with T2, and an evil-ish smirk came across my face. I then sprayed T1 with water and he scrambled away. T2 was laughing hysterically. I ran after him and sprayed him a little more. Then, he tripped, fell, and tore open a part of his pants.
I didn't notice it, and just helped him up. I got my revenge, so I figured there'd be no harm in a little kindness. As soon as he got on his feet, he went to snitch on his dad (my uncle). He then stormed over and scolded me. Me, being the awkward teenager that I am just stood there silently.
So, am I the jerk?

2024.04.29 01:37 Plebhardt Scarlet is so broken

Does anyone else think that Scarlet is just plain broken? I've just started playing the game, and was trying out some of the other characters. I've played most of the other characters, such as Beowolf, Wukong, Geopetto, etc., and none of them feel as strong as her. The ability that I think is the craziest is her human form defense. I don't know if this has been talked about, but while she is stealthed, she can interact with any point of interest as if she was not in combat. Want a chest surrounded by a billion mobs? Defense stealth steal it. Want to go up a floor but the entrance is guarded by mobs? Defense stealth steal it. Don't get me wrong, her pure damage output and beast form healing seem pretty crazy too. However, whenever I'm in human form I feel like I'm frolicking around the map picking up free items and perks. Anyone get what I'm feeling?

2024.04.29 01:36 wannabepcdude Fallout 4 is a good game!

As a kid the first ps3 game I ever played was fallout 3 after my brother in law showed it to me. I had never played a game with such in depth character inspirations and general storytelling combined with it being 2013 and very little access to the internet it was a mysterious game. I would piece together every little bit of lore available to figure out what happened to the world. Beating it was one of my proudest achievements as young teen.
After begging my dad to buy new Vegas ultimate edition for ps3 I gained a new respect for the fallout lore and rpgs in general. If fallout 3 was like drinking vodka from the bottle with its insane amounts of gore and violence new Vegas was like a proper martini with its proper rpg elements such as doing away with karma and instead focusing on faction reputation and perks that focused of specific character builds. Still remember falling to the ground in Latin class when I learned Rex meant king honestly a big brain joke by obsidian. That ending when perfected is peakfallout.
Begging my father to buy a ps4 for one game only fallout 4.
This was it, had been about 5 years since the last entry. I still remember watching the SPECIAL VIDEOS as it downloaded for the first time. The first hour pure bliss. Killing a death claw with a mini gun. Saving the minutemen. Seeing diamond city. Building up my settlements. Creating amazing guns. Fuck guns actually work now. Reclaiming the castle. Finding the railroad. Infiltrating the institute. Going to nukaworld, becoming king of raiders. Completeing the mystery of far harbor. Still the rpg elements came up short. So many issues held it back from frame rate to it not being polished enough. I held the believe for a long time fallout 4 is a great game but a bad fallout. But after the ps5 update and every dlc and all of CC I have installed and with the very few mods for PS that still work I can now proudly say after almost 10 years FALLOUT 4 isn’t just a great game it’s a good fallout game.

2024.04.29 01:27 NoBobThatsBad Chronic Post-Nasal Drip is disrupting my life. Please HELP!

I wanted to say “ruining my life” but I’m trying (probably failing) not to be dramatic here. This ended up being longer than I intended but I thought it might be helpful info somehow. For background, I’m 25 years old. I have had nut allergies since I was about 2-3 years old. First it started with peanuts, then I became allergic to hazelnuts at about age 6, now I’m allergic to all nuts (anaphylactic type reaction). That’s about as far as food allergies go to my knowledge.
I have always had seasonal allergies and growing up I was prone to sinus infections and colds a little more than most people I knew, but otherwise I thought everything was mostly normal. Then when I was about 17 I started having what seemed like more than seasonal allergies. It was year round sinus irritation, itchy red eyes, runny nose type stuff. I went to my ENT, and he recommended allergy testing.
Did the environmental allergy testing back in 2019. They pricked me with I think 38 different samples and I was allergic to every…single…one. They told me I might have some flair ups at the prick/injection test sites for a couple days. I was getting flair ups for A MONTH. In any case, I started on the allergy shots. Did those for a few months until COVID hit and everything shut down and haven’t back on since although I’m scheduled to get retested next week so I can start back.
But since the start of the pandemic (to my knowledge I have never gotten COVID), I have started having daily, thick, viscous post-nasal drip nonstop. Every 20 minutes or less I’m hissing like a cat coughing up a hairball trying to hack up a wad of mucus. I’ve tried everything I can think of. Flonase, Nasacort, Azelastine, saline, hypertonic saline, Neti-pot, humidifier, air purifiers in the room, I’ve taken Zyrtec, Claritin, Xyzal, Allegra, Sudafed, Benedryl, Robitussin, Mucinex, Butterbur, NAC, NOTHING helps. There was an Advil Allergy Sinus medication in a green box that actually worked and I remember having to get it from the pharmacist, but my PCP doesn’t allow me to take Ibuprofen anymore because I have kidney hypoplasia and HBP so that’s out the question now.
I’ve even done the diet thing by process of elimination. Trying to see if it’s caused by wheat, gluten, dairy, sugar, meat, soy, alcohol, etc. Obviously diary and sugar will exacerbate any mucus-related issue but nothing appears to be the direct culprit.
On top of all of this, ever since I’ve been off of allergy shots back in early 2020, I’ve started developing weird fragrance allergies. I can’t use scented hand soap anymore or it’ll start making me sneeze, almost every hair product makes my eyes burn and my PND even worse even days after application where I can’t consciously smell it anymore. Even the fragrance free products cause eye burning and excessive PND.
In the last few years, a lot of clothes have also started developing strange scents that make my eyes burn, my skin itch, and won’t wash out. I tried soaking them in baking soda, vinegar, borax, peroxide, nothing gets it out. I’ll wash them, they’ll be fine for a day or two, then back to irritating my eyes and skin. And it’s only a certain items. Some of my clothes will take on the scent and some won’t and I can’t figure out why.
At this point I have no idea what to do. I thought maybe I have a deviated septum and that’s why my PND is so bad but my ENT says my septum, while deviated, is a very mild case and so he only wants me to do allergy therapy. And I’m game for that, but allergy therapy is a long process and I don’t know whether that will help with the fragrance sensitivities or the PND since I have PND even when my allergies aren’t flared up.
All of this has gotten me fed up, lost, confused, and depressed. I’m tired of waking up everyday spluttering and spending all day with a stinging feeling in the roof of my mouth, spitting up mucus every 10 minutes and not being able to do normal tasks because of some scent that might get on me and leave me suffering for hours or days. If anyone has some advice on what to do or if allergy therapy has helped with their PND or fragrance sensitivity please feel free to share because I am so over this.

2024.04.29 01:22 MedicalSaga Ongoing Sudden Onset Chest Pain/Tightness, Unhappy with Current Medical Care (or lack thereof)

First, a quick background leading to the medical event.
I've been seeing a psychologist on and off for 3.5 years, but no other medical professionals in this time. The work done here was pretty basic--talked through a couple breakups, but typically met once per month for proactive work around daily life. I have a history of probable SAD (received a MDD diagnosis ~10 years ago) that began to interfere with my life around OctobeNovember 2023, so my psychologist recommended seeking a psychiatric prescriber.
I had an upcoming appointment with a new primary care provider, where I wanted to discuss ongoing fatigue since I had COVID in April 2023 (possible "long COVID"?), so I decided to discuss medication here as well, with the idea that they would have the whole picture in mind while treating me.
I'd tried SSRIs twice around 8-10 years prior and didn't love the sexual side effects, so I asked about Viibryd and Wellbutrin, which were recommendations I'd received. I mentioned hesitation around Wellbutrin, given a history of cardiac issues (ultimately diagnosed as an arrhythmia) and medication/stimulant sensitivity (and orders from my past cardiologist to avoid caffeine/stimulants), but my new PCP insisted he was comfortable prescribing it to me, so off I went with a 150mg bupropion prescription, taking my first dose on 12/4/23. They also ran an EKG that day, simply because I had worked with a cardiologist in the past and hadn't had one since then (outside of occasional Apple Watch ECGs), which was interpreted as normal, and I was referred to a sleep specialist for possible sleep apnea (later confirmed, and I'm now trying to figure out how to sleep with a CPAP).
Here's where the symptoms began.
One week later, on 12/11/23, I hadn't noticed any effects from the bupropion, either positive or negative. Around 7:40pm, I was relaxing on my couch in good health, playing a relaxing turn-based game (so no apparent stressors), when I felt intense pain in the left side of my chest. This lasted for 1-2 minutes, when the sharp pain subsided, but an intense tightness remained, which came with a sensation of some difficulty breathing.
I probably should have taken a trip to the ER, but I didn't due to fear of cost (poor choice, I know). I felt things out a bit and eventually went to sleep, hoping to feel better in the morning.
I did not feel better in the morning. I woke up with the feeling of tightness still present, along with feeling a bit lightheaded. I nearly passed out after getting up and moving around, but I barely avoided it by lying down in the floor and elevating my legs. I've passed out maybe 5-8 times in my life due to what is assumed to be anxiety/vasovagal in nature (from medical needle work/IVs, one reaction to numbing or dilation drops at optometrist, one reaction to an oncoming IBS event with lack of restroom access, one vaccination experience (of many before and since that went fine), and once while overdoing it when I had COVID), so I'm assuming that's what happened here. I've experienced occasional lightheadedness in the time since--maybe 5-6 days of frequent lightheadedness, but I haven't actually passed out in this time.
I managed to grab a same-day appointment with my PCP that morning, so I went in to see him, fully expecting to be referred to the ER or urgent care. He told me he wasn't worried about it being a heart attack, to continue taking the bupropion, asked when I was seeing my therapist next, asked for an update in a couple days, and sent me home.
With no change, I saw my PCP via telehealth two days later.
He advised me to continue taking the bupropion, but I reframed my inquiry around that to ask if it was safe to stop entirely. He said yes, so the dose taken earlier that day was my last. He referred me to get an x-ray and blood work. These came back normal, apart from a granuloma/calcified nodule in the left lung.
At this point, he asked me to come back in one month with a journal, which felt much too long, given the symptoms and their impact on my life. He also wrote me a work note recommending remote work while working out a treatment plan.
Currently, there has been no improvement--my chest still feels tight and/or in pain essentially all the time, with severity coming and going. At this time, I was also experiencing acute muscular pain/fatigue across my chest and arms, like I had gone to the gym and way overdone it on those muscles. It was mostly focused on the chest, and the muscles around the armpit. I also began to experience GI symptoms (primarily severe heartburn, but initially accompanied by excessive burping and notable gurgling/activity in the stomach that has since subsided).
It took me multiple requests to get a cardiologist referral, which I directly requested, given my history. He also recommended lung function testing, so I scheduled that. Every time I've spoken with my PCP, he's brought up mental health and referred me to my psychologist, who has determined this is not a mental health issue, as I've never had anxiety present in anything close to these symptoms. We even tried some additional exercises around calming and anxiety, and they helped in the sense that if you have physical pain from something like a broken limb, being able to calm yourself and relax a bit is better than being anxious/agitated, but it does nothing for the actual symptoms (either in the moment or in the following hours).
As soon as I could, I made appointments with a psychiatric prescriber, a cardiologist, and a pulmonologist.
I onboarded with the psychiatric prescriber to explore the bupropion's possible role in this. I was told that given my medical history, prescribing the bupropion at all was not a good idea for me, and especially in an XL format at 150mg. The initial hypothesis was that this could have thrown my body into a "feedback loop" of bodily anxiety that persisted after stopping the medication, but after the symptoms didn't respond to a couple different prescriptions (see above), the determination was that this should be exhaustively diagnosed as a physical health issue. Long-term, this prescriber wants to try stimulants for ADHD treatment, but said this is on hold until the chest issues are resolved and a cardiologist has given approval.
The cardiologist I saw didn't want to see a 12-lead EKG (my latest was from the initial PCP visit before symptoms began). He scheduled an EKG stress test, which was actually the first time I got wired up since my symptoms began. He has also declined to view the medical records I acquired from my past cardiologist on more than one occasion, which detail my past diagnosis and testing (including another stress test, nuclear imaging, echo, and Holter monitor results).
I powered through the stress test as best I could. I experienced resistance in my chest as my breathing increased, but my symptoms got much worse as I returned to rest, and the following 3-5 days were especially bad. The good news is that the results came back good, but the cardiologist has advised against any further testing, despite symptoms persisting with no identified cause.
Here are the X-Rays taken last week after my lung function tests.
I saw the pulmonologist, who has maybe been the most thorough provider I've worked with so far (aside from the sleep specialist, who was excellent, and the psychiatric providers I've worked with outside my PCP's network). He mentioned the calcified nodule on my left lung remained static between the two rounds of X-Rays, and was likely a result of a past fungal infection, or similar. He said my lung function results were good, but noted my lungs held on to air a bit too long, which was possibly a sign of asthma (though unlikely, given I haven't presented accordingly in the past). He prescribed me an inhaler (see above) to try for a couple weeks, at which point he wants to refer me to a GI specialist for the heartburn and have an echo to check for pericarditis (he declined to refer until I've trialed the inhaler).
Feel free to skip to the end from here!
This next bit may be more about poor provider interactions, though I would absolutely invite advice.
About a month ago, my workplace requested a renewal for my remote work recommendation. It's been a good accommodation that allows me to work in light of the physical limitations I'm experiencing (without having to resort to a medical leave, which my psychologist recommended, but I can't afford), and there are no issues in performing my job remote. My PCP asked me to return in person before issuing another note, so I scheduled that and went in (with a different doctor this time). I was assessed, asked again repeatedly about mental health, and told a note would be written. I later found some very inaccurate notes that misrepresented much of what I said during the visit.
The following day, I received a message asking how I'd like the work letter formatted. I provided details and didn't hear back for a week. I nudged them, asking if they needed more details. This led to an interaction with my usual PCP, who asked what limitations I was experiencing... I returned to square one and laid them all out, as above in this post. He then asked why I hadn't seen a pulmonologist as discussed during my visit with the other doctor--this hadn't been brought up at all before now (and I scheduled my above detailed pulmonary visit after this interaction). He then again asked how my mental health was, and what my new psychiatrist recommended (which I had detailed previously). He then recommended I ask my psychiatrist for a work note instead, said that his office would reach out to their office, and noted that I would be charged for the message interaction, because it was initiated by me... despite it being a follow-up interaction initiated by his office after my last appointment. I relayed that I sent my psychiatrist a release form, but noted I wasn't sure how helpful a work note from their office would be, given the ruling that this is a physical issue unrelated to mental health. He requested I return in person yet again.
Against my better judgment, I agreed and set my appointment. The first thing he did in person was act confused and ask why I came in (this is not the first time we've had an appointment he requested begin this way). He then pointed out that I have a care plan via the pulmonologist, threw up his hands, and presented that in an "Okay, end of story, now go home" sort of way. I'm pretty uncomfortable advocating for myself, but I gave it my best shot. I explained that I'm still in pain and can't do the things I want to do, at work and beyond, and that I desperately want to return to normal health, or at least get some answers. He said that some things don't have a solution, and the stress test came back fine, so I can resume normal activity, and his biggest advice was to exercise.
I was baffled by this suggestion, so I explained that I would love to be able to resume exercise (I have a bike and paddleboard collecting dust, and I am not happy being stuck at home nearly all the time, feeling terrible while I manage my symptoms), but it's not something I'm able to do right now. I walked through the fact that I have a significant amount of pain that gets worse as my activity level increases, and we haven't identified a cause... which tells me that I shouldn't push things until I know what I can push. His response was that it would be fine. Specifically, he said that I'm an adult who can make the choice to push through discomfort, and his recommendation as an internal specialist was to exercise through it.
I should add that he was severely agitated and appeared on the verge of yelling this whole conversation, and I was shut down any time I attempted to discuss my symptoms or ask for help.
For example, I wanted to ask about the heartburn and where I need to draw lines on medicating for it, as I currently take famotidine 10-20mg as needed until I can do another round of Nexium, but am concerned with doing this for too long, especially if there may be a better approach to resolving it (and whether it may be related to the chest issues). I've actually brought my heartburn up with him a few times, and have been brushed off each time.
Now for the wrap-up (finally).
Apologies for the large volume of text there, but it's been a journey, and thank you to anybody who stuck through this far. Right now, I'm exhausted, in pain and intense discomfort, and I'm having a hard time being taken seriously or finding a provider who seems to care. If anybody has seen something like this or has a recommendation on what sort of providers or treatment/diagnostic work I should seek out, or even just advice on how to navigate the medical system in light of my experiences here, I'm very open to ideas.
I'm not sure what to make of it, given that I'm of course not a medical expert, but symptoms coming on from nothing at all to full symptoms in an instant, and sustaining for months after seems odd. The timing of the bupropion is also pretty suspect to me, but the issues persisting so long after stopping it is also odd. I've had hiatal hernia mentioned as a possibility, but with no improvement from the Nexium (beyond just the heartburn while actively taking it), I know that makes it unlikely to some extent. It feels like we're looking at a lot of "not very likely" possibilities at this stage, though, so I don't know where I should be looking.
