Our wedding reception planning has turned into a nightmare filled with disappointment and frustration. Despite our hopes of celebrating our love and individuality, we're being bombarded with demands from guests who insist that their enjoyment hinges on specific drinks, music, and guest list inclusions.
It's disheartening to realize that some people care more about their own preferences than respecting our wishes. We had to make tough decisions due to our budget, opting for a smaller, intimate gathering with only our closest friends and family. Yet, there's this expectation that we should invite everyone, regardless of how distant our relationship is with them.
It feels like we're being forced to sacrifice our authenticity to appease others. Who is this party for, anyway? Are we supposed to forget about our own desires and identities just to ensure everyone else has a good time? It's a tough pill to swallow, and it's making us question whether this celebration is truly about us or merely catering to the whims of others.
Perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps I need to reconsider and find a way to better cater to the guests while still staying true to ourselves. But it's a difficult balance to strike, and right now, it feels like our voices are being drowned out by the expectations of others.
Edit: This is what's causing a stir: We opted for Costco Kirkland alcohol, which has rubbed some people the wrong way. Sharing our music playlist also backfired; it's a mix of '80s hits (like The Cure, Depeche Mode, and New Order) and modern/90's techno EDM. Interestingly, neither side of our families is keen on dancing, so we're spicing things up with games and activities, offering gift card prizes. For instance, we've crafted a giant Plinko board, and the top three high scores will snag $50 gift cards. We're open to most music, but country is a hard pass for us. Surprisingly, four people have actually un-RSVP'd after seeing our music and liquor choices. Our families are very demanding and very opinionated. They know about the music and liquor only because they reached out and asked us.

A little bit of backstory. (FAKE NAMES. TLDR AT THE BOTTOM.)
Since day one, Jenna (28F, the sister of my boyfriend) has not liked me (18F). We rarely interact, but when we have, I believe it's been pleasant. Jenna and Mike (22M, my boyfriend) have gotten into many arguments where she's listed some random reason she doesn't like me. Reasons such as I haven't said hello to her in passing, I've been rude in conversations, I am a sl^t and dress like one, and her most recent issue has been that I am abusing Mike. Jenna believes I am abusing Mike because of a few bruises on his arm (we enjoy rougher sex). When Jenna first confronted Mike about this, he let her know why he has the bruises but she doesn't believe him and has continued to bring this allegation up. Also important to the story, Jenna is an out of control alcoholic.
About a week ago, I was sleeping over at my boyfriends house and he went into the main house (still lives at home, his room is in a cabin outside) to shower. It was late at night so I fell asleep. When my boyfriend was done showering, Jenna went into the house severely drunk and was trying to talk to him, it escalated and they started arguing. She started going on about the abuse allegation and how she doesn't want me at their house. Jenna eventfully found out that I was in my boyfriends room, to which she stormed down the stairs, ripped open the door and started screaming at me. I woke up and screamed, I was so confused I couldn't even recognise who was talking to me. I couldn't process any of what she was saying until the end of her rant where she said something along the lines of, "I don't care that your 18, I will beat your fucking ass." And then she left to her bedroom (also in a cabin outside). When my boyfriend saw her leaving his room, he was horrified and came running to me. I was shell-shocked.
Two days ago, Mike invited me over and cooked us a beautiful pasta, it was such a romantic at home dinner date. Beforehand, Mike had texted Jenna letting her know what the plans were. Jenna had been drinking with a friend in her room for majority of the day. It had been a few hours and we were just about to start packing up when Jenna slam knocked on the door (door was locked) screaming something horrible. I ran into the guest bedroom and shut the door to avoid any interaction with her. I'm not exactly sure what happened as I couldn't hear much but she came up to use the bathroom and started drunkenly slurring on about how sweet Mike was for the dinner date. Jenna then asked where I was to apologise to me for the previous event, Mike said now's not the time and got her to leave, when she exited, Mike locked the door and Jenna lost her shit. She kicked the door so hard the doggy door and handle broke, the two of them then got into a heated yelling match. Mike lost his patience and grabbed a plastic liquor bottle Jenna was holding and tried to throw it away from her. During this, some split on her face. Mike apologised and tried to wipe it off her face, in response she hit him in the nose, hard enough for his nose piercing to bleed. At some point later in the argument she also pulled his hair.
While all this was going on, I had turned off the light and pushed the bed against the door in hopes that if Jenna tried to come in, it would slow her down. My whole body was shaking and I was terrified for me and my partner. At some point it had gone on for too long and I called the cops, about five minutes later my boyfriend came in and talked to them for me.
Police do not actively patrol in my town (small town) so it was gonna be awhile before they showed up. Roughly two hours later, me and Mike were able to leave and stayed the night at my house.
Safe to say I'm not going there for a very long time. I'm pretty fucked up about this... Previously I had a nightmare regarding the first event and woke up screaming.. Nightmares are relatively common for me but not waking up screaming. I don't really have anyone I can share this with so thought I'd post to reddit.
TLDR; Boyfriends sister is an out of control alcoholic that hates my guts, made a threat to harm me, then a week later harmed her own brother.

I've recently discovered that DnB is probably my favorite genre.
To give a quick background blurb, I started in the EDM scene mostly surrounded by being dragged around hardstyle and house DJs since thats whats most popular in my city.
Having been to EDC last year for the first time and going to some smaller fests, I became drawn to dubstep (Excision, subtronics, kayzo). More recently, I went to both Reaper and Blanke(Aeon Mode) shows in my city, and found that dancing to DnB was the most fun I've had at a show without being blasted on drugs or alcohol.
Just looking for some good recs or if anyone doesn't mind sharing their personal spotify playlist, I would appreciate it.

I handwrote some of my notes to pass the 13 hours which is why there are ??? when I couldn't read my own writing/abbreviations. Note that not all titles were available on all flights, and my list is missing a chunk of them (especially titles beginning with "S" for some reason). Hope someone finds it useful! I’m so glad this sub exists because I’ve been annoying everyone in my life with my theories about these two … I figured this would be the right place to post my speculation/lyric breakdowns of songs that they may have written about each other, split into different posts for albums for ease of reading.
Starting with Reputation (2017) – I imagine the failed relationship with Matty was still fresh for Taylor during the writing/recording of this album. Her reference to her “longings locked in lowercase inside a vault” definitely made me look back at Rep in a way I hadn’t before (and I do think we’ll see some Matty-coded vault tracks on TV”. That said I don’t want to erase her other relationships, especially with Joe, so I’ll make notes of where I think I’m either stretching for a Matty connection or I think there are multiple muses.
Special mention to “Getaway Car” which feels like another (fictionalized?) response to Robbers but the story she tells is very similar to her fling with Tom, especially given the third man in the song. I usually claim it for the maylors anyway bc who cares about Tom. Let me know what you think.

I can't ignore the connections here to two other songs thought to be written about M - Ghost (2014) and Haunted (2015) by Halsey (I won't bother going into the HalseyMatty lore here but I could in another post...)

Robbers is one of The 1975’s most famous songs. In the music video two lovers stick up a convenience store - definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it. In 2014 M dedicated the song to T in Dallas in November 2017 (a week after she attended the concert in LA) here and here
Burton to this Taylor
One of my favorite references that I think reveals a lot about the messy but irresistible relationship M and T seem to have. Here's a link to a great article about the wild love affair between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
Every love I've known in comparison is a failure / I forget their names now, I'm so very tame now / Never be the same now
This sentiment is repeated throughout many of the songs I believe are about M. The idea of a life altering love is obviously prevalent across TTPD but also in folklore, evermore, and Midnights. ex. "I'm never gonna love again" (cowboy like me), "I don't remember who I was before you painted all my nights a color I have searched for since" (Question...?), "I felt aglow like this / Never before and never since" (loml)
Also want to mention This Must Be My Dream from 2016, which M has said is about an older gf but may fit: "Let me tell you 'bout this girl / I thought she'd rearrange my world"

conclusion: I believe ...Ready For It? is a response to Robbers and reveals M and T's similar romanticism (sometimes toxic but so addicting). The mirrored stylization of ...Ready For It? and Question...? makes me think the latter is a continuation of the former. The mentions of “island breeze” and “we’ll move to an island” have made people believe this song is about Tom Hiddleston but other lyrics, namely “younger than my exes” pretty clearly contradicts that.

Funny reading this after The Alchemy and So High School.

I knew what the song was about, I had felt that about someone before and I got to write an episodic, mini movie about the subject"

- lockable liquor cabinet. we have a 2 yr old who will eventually be a tween/teen. i'm looking for a 30" wide liquor cabinet that I can lock.
- gossip bench. we have a mail slot on the exterior of our house that goes in right into interior that's next to our front door. our mailman still uses it so unless we have something there to catch the mail, it just ends up on the floor. so i'm looking for a gossip bench that has the table/phone stand on the right side to put a basket on that will catch the mail. we are also a no shoes in the household so bench is good for folks to sit down and put on their shoes.

•Managers? Speaking to us like equal and capable adults. As opposed to “why aren’t you doing something?” “Go clean the windows.” “Take that liquor stock upstairs.” “How dare you make a coffee/water before ALL the opening work is done even though we don’t open for 30 more minutes.”
•Hosts? Literally come find the servers to tell us if we’re sat. I couldn’t tell you the amount of times I’d be weeded at my last job, and my manager would come find me only to bitch if I haven’t greeted a table yet or didn’t see them. Or they would straight up just assign another server to that table without telling me, then I’d go up to them and look like an idiot because they’d be like “someone already got our orders.”

The amount of disgusting heavy buss tubs we had to take back at my last job was ridiculous. And do you think the manager took them back when we were busy? •washing, polishing, and rolling silverware? Never heard of that either. The dishwashers actually wash the silverware. We don’t polish it, we only have to fold linens.
•wine restock? Actually makes sense. The stock is above and below the shelves, as opposed to upstairs in a locked room. We literally would have to make multiple trips with heavy crates full of wine up and down the stairs, and then rotate them out in the coolers. Why they kept reds in the coolers, I couldn’t tell you, it was beyond stupid. If I bought a bottle of Pinot noir and it was cold, I’d be annoyed lol. AND staff can get whole bottles at the glass price??? Sorcery.
•menu? 5x smaller (although the wine list is 20x bigger lol). With no typos, no items that aren’t sold, and no sides.
•the money? The server I was following last night made $230 from 3 tables. That’s more than I made on some doubles at my last job. That’s almost half of what I made EVERY 2 WEEKS. Also no bar tip out, and no host tip out.

Hi all, I’m planning to do a Russian Imperial Stout inspired braggot with buckwheat honey. I’m planning to use the Cooper’s Stout beer kit that has hopped malt extract as the beer base, because I don’t have the proper equipment for all-grain beer and I lack the experience to try and jump into the deep end of imperial stouts for all-grain beer anyhow.
The Cooper’s Stout kit is listed as having and IBU of 710 for 23l. I was planning on having a total batch size of 10l with the buckwheat honey. I have around 1.1kg of buckwheat honey in storage and will use all of it, if needed.
I’m also separately boiling hops to increase bitterness/flavouaroma. Here are my hop additions (all pellets): - 30g chinook 70min (bitterness) - 30g chinook 15min (flavour) - 20g+20g fuggle+east kent golding 2min (aroma)
I have Lalvin 71B as my yeast of choice and am planning to add dark american oak chips for flavour. The stout extract has had a FG of around 1.014 when I’ve previously used it and I’m aiming for a OG of 1.085-1.090.
My main concern is that I’ll make the brew stupid bitter (yeah I know it’s the point when making RIS), since I’m already condensing the hopped extract from a planned ~20l to 10l. I am aware that toucans are a thing (using 2 kits of extract) and halving the water may approach some similar areas, but I wanted to ask for opinions here from more experienced brewers. Are there immediate red flags in the recipe? Feedback is appreciated!

- Jeff Ackerman plays oboe for the quartet. He is the Fine Arts Department Chair and the band, guitar, and piano instructor for Westside High School in Jacksonville. Lee Sellers had a long career working with student bands in Texas and Florida, most recently in St. Johns County. Lee plays flute in the 9B Quartet and has performed as flutist and piccolist with several ensembles, including the Florida Flute Orchestra, the Trade Winds Quintet, Hollingsworth Winds, and the First Coast Flute Choir in Jacksonville. Multi-instrumentalist Robbie Zukauskas plays bassoon in the quartet and plays in several area ensembles and has performed with several military bands. In case you don't know, the Sun Princess is Princess Cruises' latest behemoth ship. I just got back from a 2-week sailing and took meticulous notes on this epic new vessel. Here's my extremely detailed, no-BS review:
The medallion is your modern day "cruise card" that you tap everywhere to make payments, order drinks, unlock your stateroom, get on/off the ship, and more. But what's crazy is the app can use the medallion to detect your location anywhere on board. Order a drink or meal through the app and the server will manage to find you anywhere on the ship to deliver it, usually within 15 minutes. Caveat: there were times when it took longer and other times when our order was marked "delivered" and it never arrived.
The medallion definitely feels like getting on/off the ship is way faster. The only time we ever waiting in line was for the few minutes it took people to run through security.
This made getting food/drinks almost too easy. On port days when we needed to get off the ship early for excursions, setting up a scheduled delivery of my Egg McMuffin, fruit plate in coffee was really convenient.
Fair warning though - if you're anti-tracking and value privacy over convenience, the ubiquitous Medallion system may not be for you.
Story: we were sitting by the Crooners bar having our nightly pre-dinner cocktail. The bar was packed on this night for some reason. A staff member in a suit started wandering the room, made eye contact with me from 40-feet away and then made a b-line for us. He wanted to sign us up for a wine/food pairing event they were having. I have to believe this is because of the tracking being done via the meddalion. They could see we drink our share of wine. It definitely felt like targeted marketing.
And for those wondering about the 15 drink per day limit (since there's almost a weekly post asking about it) - it was never an issue for me. I'm a scotch drinker and to get a decent pour, you basically have to order a double. Even drinking doubles, I never got to 15 drinks/day. This even includes sea days where we'd typically have a mimosa or two with breakfast, a few cocktails/beers at the pool, an cocktail or two before dinner and then wine at dinner.
However, we did notice a clear slip in the quality of service in the second week compared to the first, likely due to a crew changeover partway through our sailing. Simple things like forgetting drink orders or getting meals wrong became more frequent from our new set of MDR servers.
As mini-suite guests we also received a nice amenity of free premium wines in our room - on the second week they even topped us up with two more complementary bottles! I guess each week is looked at as a new sailing -- so you get two more bottles! Some older posts complained about the wine quality. It looks like it's been upgraded because we received a Pinot Noir and Chard from La Crema. Being California wine people, La Crema works great for us. If you can swing it, I'd highly recommend going for a mini-suite over a regular balcony.
That being said, I'd avoid the "Cabana" balcony suites. The layout is really bizarre and in my opinion a downgrade. When you walk out onto your balcony, it's not really a balcony. There's another area in front of your balcony that connects a few other cabana suites. The idea is that a few rooms share a private balcony with jacuzzi. However, it also means that walking out onto your balcony doesn't give you a private ocean view because there's this 20-30 feet of additional patio in front of you and everyone above you just looks down into your balcony area.
They've done a great job with the power situation in these rooms. Every outlet has a USA 110v plug, a Euro plug, a USB-C and a USB-A plug. There are outlets by the desk area and with each nightstand on both sides of the bed. Since we had ample USB outlets, all we really needed a regular USA outlet for was the blow dryer. Don't get tricked! There's what looks like a two-prong USA outlet by the sink in the bathroom. It has a funky icon next to it. This outlet is for charging an electronic razor -- that's the only kind of plug that will fit in this outlet so don't try and jam another device in there -- it won't work. My mom tripped the breaker in her state room by running the hair dryer while her curling iron was on -- so beware ladies!
Food quality in the main dining rooms (MDRs) was consistently good across breakfast and dinner. On port days, it's an "express breakfast" which just means a shorter list of options. Nothing mind-blowing, but solid and tasty. My biggest gripe here is the operating hours. On sea days, the MDR closes for breakfast at 9:00am. You basically have to choose between sleeping in a little, hitting the gym, or getting a decent breakfast.
Pro-Tip: Biggest breakfast tip is stay away from the scrammbled eggs -- they're gross. We figured out that the scrambled eggs come from a bag. If you want real, cracked eggs, either get an omelett or over easy/medium/hard/etc.
The layout of the buffet is weird and leaves people wondering if they're cutting in line especially when you go to the extended buffet at Catch/Butcherblock.
What's odd to me is you can go grab a million cheese plates, fruit plates or hummus/veggie plates at the buffet. But if you order those things through the Medallion app, it's not "complimentary." You have to pay like $4.99-$5.99 for those items. We still can't figure out why it costs $5 to order a tiny cheese plate but ordering a cheeseburger is free.
We chose Crown for my parent's anniversay dinner. The service was awesome and they made us all feel really special. The setup here is like a steakhouse, where you order your beef and then the sides are a la carte family style. We had a group of seven -- the manager just said "we'll bring you out all the sides, enough for your whole party" which was great.
The next week, we hit up Butcher's Block by Dario. I've never left a meal more full on a cruise ship than at this place. It's family style dining and they just bring out everything for you -- almost like a brazilian barbecue place. We started with a bread appetizer and a glass of wine while you wait for them to get the dining room setup. Then there's more bread on the table + veggies. Then the food starts coming out: beef tartar; beef carpaccio; etc. The main event is the massive tomahawks and porterhouse steaks they carve up tableside. They'll just keep putting beef on your plate until you beg them to stop. Finally, there's desert and a grappa digestif.
Both restaurants were great experiences and a very welcomed change from the MDR after a week of repetition. The food, service and overall vibe were a noticeable step up.
If you're from LA, you probably know about the Magic Castle in Hollywood. Spellbound is an extension of the Magic Castle. Just like with the Magic Castle, you show up in formal wear. This means a coat and tie for the men and an evening gown/dress for the woman.
Overall, we really enjoyed it.
If you just want straight spirits, you have to order a double to get a normal pour (they're actually measuring out the pours). That being said, with either Plus or Premium, you'll get a good selection of top quality booze.
You gotta try really hard to hit the 15-drink max. Some days I had drinks at breakfast, during the day, lunch, before dinner, during dinner and after dinner. I never hit my max.
One thing that impressed me was staff actually being concerned about drink quality. We were having drinks at one of the bars on the Lido deck. The supervisor was upset with the bartenders because they ran out of premium liquor and hadn't requested more. He made sure to remind them that when someone orders a premium drink they get a premium liquor -- no exceptions.
You also must checkout the Good Spirits bar. There's a few times throughout the night where you watch a live cocktail demonstration. The bartenders at GS are so fun and playful -- really makes for a great vibe.
The pool areas were nicely spread out across different sections of the Lido deck. On sailing days, there was typically a band, the DJ and then a random movie on the jumbotron. The random blasting of action movies at 3pm really ruined the pool vibe and it's typically when the deck would thin out. One minute you're relaxing in the jacuzzi, the next an action movie with explosions is shaking the pool area. It made no sense and seemed tailored for a much younger crowd despite this sailing's passengers being mostly older adults.
The technology support via the app's live chat feature, however, was utterly useless. Any time we had issues properly being charged for drink packages or had to modify reservations, the live chat was a time-wasting nightmare. You're clearly just talking to an outsourced rep with zero actual knowledge of Princess' systems or operations. Your best bet is to go in-person to the guest services desk.

The Sheer Size is Nuts
When I say this ship is massive, I mean it's absolutely nuts how big this floating city is. Especially when you get off in ports and have to walk back down the dock to reboard - that's when the sheer scale of the Sun Princess really hits you. Even though it carries a ton of people, the only time it really felt crowded was during breakfast. The Eatery fills up quick and the International Cafe, which sits outside The Eatery doesn't lend itself well for crowds of people wiaint for their coffees. You kind of end up waiting in the middle of where the walking traffic moves.The Medallion Life

Premium Package Was Best for Us
We opted for the Premium beverage package at $80 per day and I'm glad we did for a few reasons:- If you need to have more than one device connected to the internet at a time, Premium makes sense just based on that (you can have four devices). The cheaper Plus package only allows one device, which was a non-starter for me needing both my phone and laptop to be online. I'm unfortunately not able to just live off the grid for almost three weeks and need to periodically check in with my clients.
- The wine selection is way better with Premium vs Plus. As a wine drinker, the upgrade was 100% worth it.
- Two free speciality dining meals are included, which was clutch on our 2-week cruise to break up the repetition of the main dining rotation.
- Unlimited premium desserts and ice creams - a nice perk for those with a sweet tooth.

Our room steward, waiters, bartenders - everyone went so above and beyond daily, it really elevated the experience. Suites & Staterooms
We originally booked a balcony room. When the bid offer came in I followed some old advice and just placed bids on upgrades because "you don't have to take the offer if you don't like it." Well guess what, that's not the case anymore. My offer was accepted and we automatically became the proud recipients of a Reserve Mini-Suite for an additional $500. In hindsight, I'm glad it worked out. The room has noticably more space than a standard balcony room. These mini-suites are spacious, basically a separate living room and bedroom divided by a curtain you can close off. Having two TVs and an extra closet was great.As mini-suite guests we also received a nice amenity of free premium wines in our room - on the second week they even topped us up with two more complementary bottles! There's another area in front of your balcony that connects a few other cabana suites. The idea is that a few rooms share a private balcony with jacuzzi. However, it also means that walking out onto your balcony doesn't give you a private ocean view because there's this 20-30 feet of additional patio in front of you and everyone above you just looks down into your balcony area.
They've done a great job with the power situation in these rooms. Every outlet has a USA 110v plug, a Euro plug, a USB-C and a USB-A plug. There are outlets by the desk area and with each nightstand on both sides of the bed. Since we had ample USB outlets, all we really needed a regular USA outlet for was the blow dryer. Don't get tricked! There's what looks like a two-prong USA outlet by the sink in the bathroom. It has a funky icon next to it. This outlet is for charging an electronic razor -- that's the only kind of plug that will fit in this outlet so don't try and jam another device in there -- it won't work. My mom tripped the breaker in her state room by running the hair dryer while her curling iron was on -- so beware ladies!
Dining Highs & Lows
Main Dining Rooms
It can be confusing because there are three floors (Decks 6, 7 and 8). We reserved dining in the Deck 6 MDR prior to the trip via the app for the first few days just so we knew there was a guaranteed place to eat. On night one, the dining room manager introduced himself to us and said he went ahead and booked our table for us every night of the trip. If we didn't show, it was fine.Food quality in the main dining rooms (MDRs) was consistently good across breakfast and dinner. On port days, it's an "express breakfast" which just means a shorter list of options. Nothing mind-blowing, but solid and tasty. My biggest gripe here is the operating hours. On sea days, the MDR closes for breakfast at 9:00am. You basically have to choose between sleeping in a little, hitting the gym, or getting a decent breakfast.
Pro-Tip: Biggest breakfast tip is stay away from the scrammbled eggs -- they're gross. We figured out that the scrambled eggs come from a bag. If you want real, cracked eggs, either get an omelett or over easy/medium/hard/etc.
Reserve Suite Dining Access
The Reserve mini-suite gives you access to the Reserve Restaurant. It's a little bit more elevated of a dining experience and reservations aren't needed -- you just show up. We dined her a few times and it did feel more elevated. Unlike the MDR, the server in the Reserve Restaurant feels more personal because they're handling smaller groups.Lido Deck
For more casual fare, the Lido deck had some surprises like an awesome made-to-order salad bar station that became my go-to for healthier meals between all the indulgent dining. The burger grill, taco station and pizza areas were pretty standard, but that salad bar slapped.Lackluster Buffet
On the flip side, The Eatery buffet left a lot to be desired. Despite different themed stations, the quality was mid at best. We largely avoided eating at the buffet outside of quick breakfast grabs. The Eatery closes for breakfast around 10:00 AM. At which point if you move further into the ship, the restaurants that are normall Catch and Butcherblock become a buffet extension that's opened later -- it's kind of funky.The layout of the buffet is weird and leaves people wondering if they're cutting in line especially when you go to the extended buffet at Catch/Butcherblock.
What's odd to me is you can go grab a million cheese plates, fruit plates or hummus/veggie plates at the buffet. But if you order those things through the Medallion app, it's not "complimentary." You have to pay like $4.99-$5.99 for those items. We still can't figure out why it costs $5 to order a tiny cheese plate but ordering a cheeseburger is free.
Specialty Dining Winners
We used our two speciality dining credits at Crown Grill and Butcher's Block by Dario. I was a little worried because I had read mixed reviews on here about both of these restaurants. However, both meals were really good and before you come at me, I'm a foodie guy -- I'd tell you if they sucked.We chose Crown for my parent's anniversay dinner. The service was awesome and they made us all feel really special. The setup here is like a steakhouse, where you order your beef and then the sides are a la carte family style. We had a group of seven -- the manager just said "we'll bring you out all the sides, enough for your whole party" which was great.
The next week, we hit up Butcher's Block by Dario. I've never left a meal more full on a cruise ship than at this place. It's family style dining and they just bring out everything for you -- almost like a brazilian barbecue place. We started with a bread appetizer and a glass of wine while you wait for them to get the dining room setup. Then there's more bread on the table + veggies. Then the food starts coming out: beef tartar; beef carpaccio; etc. The main event is the massive tomahawks and porterhouse steaks they carve up tableside. They'll just keep putting beef on your plate until you beg them to stop. Finally, there's desert and a grappa digestif.
Both restaurants were great experiences and a very welcomed change from the MDR after a week of repetition. The food, service and overall vibe were a noticeable step up.
Spellbound
We also splurged one night for the Spellbound immersive magic/dinner experience and it was easily a cruise highlight despite the $150/pp price tag. After an elevated multi-course meal, you get ushered by a guy in a top hat into an exclusive hidden club. While waiting for the magic show, you hang out in their bar which is reminiscent of the Dinseyland Haunted Mansion. While enjoying your drink, there's a magician perorming more intement magic for everyone at the bar. Once they're ready for the show, you're brought into the room where the actual magic show takes place. Afterwards, you're welcome to hang out in the Spellbound bar and continue drinking.If you're from LA, you probably know about the Magic Castle in Hollywood. Spellbound is an extension of the Magic Castle. Just like with the Magic Castle, you show up in formal wear. This means a coat and tie for the men and an evening gown/dress for the woman.
Overall, we really enjoyed it.
Room Service
This was hit or miss for us. You fill out the paper door hangar and place it on your doorknob before heading to bed. Then you hope and pray that it will actually arrive -- which in two of our instances, it never did. Your options are also super limited. You also may or may not receive what you actually ordered. With coffee for instance, you have a choice of ordering it to-go (paper cup) or stay (actual coffe cup). We always seemed to get the opposite of what we ordered to the point where it became a running joke for us.International Cafe
This became our goto for a lot of things: coffee, snacks, quick breakfast food (pastries, coffee cake, avodcado toast, Egg McMuffins). Werid fact though: if you order the Egg McMuffin through the app, it comes as an egg patty just like McDonalds and with cheese. When you get the one at International Cafe, it's just an over easy egg and no cheese. Why they can't just be the same is odd.Night Owl Needs
My main dining gripe was the lack of solid late night food options for us night owls. The Eatery buffet closed at an absurd 10:30pm, leaving only spotty room service or mobile ordering as the choices if you worked up an appetite after evening activities. More robust late-night casual dining would be appreciated.Bars & Alcohol
Overall, great selection of cocktails. All of the bars have their own little theme and different menus. The ladies I was with were consitently impressed at the quality and thought of the cocktails at each bar. They were also super impressed with the quality of the glassware being used. I must admit, everything from the rocks glasses to the martini glasses really were beautiful.If you just want straight spirits, you have to order a double to get a normal pour (they're actually measuring out the pours). That being said, with either Plus or Premium, you'll get a good selection of top quality booze.
You gotta try really hard to hit the 15-drink max. Some days I had drinks at breakfast, during the day, lunch, before dinner, during dinner and after dinner. I never hit my max.
One thing that impressed me was staff actually being concerned about drink quality. We were having drinks at one of the bars on the Lido deck. The supervisor was upset with the bartenders because they ran out of premium liquor and hadn't requested more. He made sure to remind them that when someone orders a premium drink they get a premium liquor -- no exceptions.
You also must checkout the Good Spirits bar. There's a few times throughout the night where you watch a live cocktail demonstration. The bartenders at GS are so fun and playful -- really makes for a great vibe.
Amenities - Hits & Misses
The gym facilities on board were a bit of a disappointment, especially for a new ship. While they had a nice assortment of cardio machines, the actual weight room was laughably small with only a few pieces of strength equipment that were always monopolized. Not a deal-breaker, but an area that could be improved.The pool areas were nicely spread out across different sections of the Lido deck. On sailing days, there was typically a band, the DJ and then a random movie on the jumbotron. The random blasting of action movies at 3pm really ruined the pool vibe and it's typically when the deck would thin out. One minute you're relaxing in the jacuzzi, the next an action movie with explosions is shaking the pool area. It made no sense and seemed tailored for a much younger crowd despite this sailing's passengers being mostly older adults.
Technology & Support
In addition to the Medallion app, the overall internet speeds on board were fast and reliable enough for me to easily stay connected for basic work needs.The technology support via the app's live chat feature, however, was utterly useless. Any time we had issues properly being charged for drink packages or had to modify reservations, the live chat was a time-wasting nightmare. You're clearly just talking to an outsourced rep with zero actual knowledge of Princess' systems or operations. Your best bet is to go in-person to the guest services desk.
Other Notes & Quibbles
- Dress codes weren't enforced at all. We did the whole suite/gown routine for formal nights only to see plenty of people still rocking jeans and t-shirts in the MDR. Same lack of enforcement for the "formal attire required" Spellbound event. Either lose the formal nights or enforce them.
- Our drink package tallies often had errors, with our group's drinks randomly getting combined onto one person's account. Always double check and ask for corrections.
- The "Cabana" balcony suite layout is bizarre - your balcony is just a shared landing in front of other suites, rather than a private space. We avoided these after hearing the lack of privacy.

It is fascinating how the same items can have such a wide range of names.Every industry has their own product names based on Slang – Industry Nicknames – Aliases – AKA – Also Known As. Another example with different terms, depending on where you call home, you might say “You guys” or “Y’all”. If you hail from Pittsburgh, you most likely say “Yinz”. i (22f) have been working at the same liquor store in nj for almost 4 years now. i went from a regular cashiestocker to “head cashier” (which was the exact same job with an insignificant raise) then somehow got promoted. however this promotion didn’t come with a job title or raise; if i had to give myself a title, it would be assistant managebookkeeper. i don’t talk to customers or do ordering or anything hands on. i sit in the office and pay invoices on a homemade system (i have no microsoft experience thanks to this), count the money made from the day before and deposit it to the bank, make the schedules, keep track of every price increase, and more stupid boring office work. the most activity i get is training new employees, or if the manager isn’t in and my help is needed. i know that if i ask for a raise, they’re going to ask me to work more hours and add more responsibilities to my list which i don’t want. i’m already severely stressed and have no motivation, i cant see myself taking on anymore work here. not for nothing, i make $2 above minimum wage and can barely survive off it as is. even if i did ask for a raise, it’s probably not going to be much more than i technically should be making. i feel like i’m being used and they’re not even trying to hide it. long story short i hate it here and i need to gtfo. i don’t like working with customers as i have no patience for stupidity and sitting alone in the office all day is getting very old very quick. however i have strong attention to details and have been often asked if i have ocd due to my obsessive organizing and cleaning. i’d love to be outdoors or doing some kind of remote work with a part time job just to get me out of the house. i’m feeling lost while looking at these options though, most of them need a degree, certification, experience, or proficiency in microsoft. i don’t have the money to be spending on college otherwise i would’ve done it sooner. i just wish the world was more accepting of people in the lower class that weren’t able to get an opportunity. being so lost in the sauce tends to make me indecisive and i end up suffering in the situation until i find a random way out. does anyone have any ideas of fields i can check out? or a better job hunting site than indeed? i’ll take anything at this point.

Someone recently posted a link to the ATC violation list, and scrolling through it, I hit a couple of records that show bars being cited for violating "high and fine reputation." Those violations cite Indiana code 7.1.3.9.10, which says "High and Fine Reputation. The commission may issue a liquor retailer's permit only to a high grade club, restaurant, or hotel, which has a high and fine reputation for decency and law obedience. In no case shall a liquor retailer's permit be issued or stand unrevoked if the owner, manager, or management of the establishment is not a person of strict integrity and high repute, or if the premises have been padlocked."
Does anyone know what those bars are doing that's getting them hit with this violation? The fines are in the $500-$1000 range.

I (31m) am getting married in a few months and I'm frustrated with my sister (27f) because when I announced my engagement she enthusiastically volunteered to organize and throw a Jack & Jill party (a sort of fundraiser to help the couple pay for the wedding).
I never really wanted one of these parties because asking other people for money for my wedding feels weird and we don't really need the financial help but my fiance told me that it's socially acceptable and will be fun. So we agreed to let my sister organise and do this for us. Again, this was at the time of our engagement announcement.
Fast-forward to present day and we are only a few months from the wedding and only 6 weeks from the date we settled on for this Jack & Jill party and ABSOLUTELY nothing has been planned. We don't have activities, a liquor licence, we don't have games or prizes, we don't have a guest list, there's no tickets for sale yet. I've been hounding my sister trying to prompt her to start planning or do anything at all for it really and she keeps blowing me off and not seeming interested at all.
My fiance and I are considering just cancelling the party because we don't have the time to take on this task unaided. When I told my sister this she became angry at me and said she "would get to it".

2024.05.14 05:26 awholenoobworld Anyone using Square POS figured out how to do tipouts?
I've been using the regular Square POS system, not Square for Restaurants, since we're basically just a bar with walk-up snack orders, no table service, and need something really simple for the staff without any confusing extras. Only problem with it is we now want to go to a system where customers sign onscreen instead of printing out receipts for them to sign. Currently the staff has hundreds of paper receipt tips to input in the POS and then count out by hand at the end of the night, which takes 20 minutes or more and sometimes leads to mistakes.
This is the ONE thing I'm unhappy about with Square POS - if I switch to customers signing and tipping onscreen, the staff have no way of knowing how many tips they made each night. It's not listed on the day report printout and I can't seem to find a way for them to see it on the POS. So how will they know how many tips to pull from the register? They split the cash + card tips among themselves and do a cash payout from the till at the end of the night. Figuring out who gets what after the fact would be a nightmare for management, with all the last minute shift changes, people leaving early if it's slow, etc. Everyone's been happy with the arrangement of splitting it between themselves. Just trying to figure out a way for the staff to see on the POS what the card tips were for the drawer they're closing out.
