2024.06.09 11:36 Tarvod27 Modding question

Why do I have to generate a CFG file? I downloaded tamriel rebuild, went to the data files page of the launcher and appended the folder where tamriel rebuilt is located and it works. Every guide I look at tells me I have to edit folders or something when this simpler way seems to work fine?

2024.06.09 11:34 AMPR4 Video editor or game dev?

I am currently studying a bachelor degree in computer engineering and I have done diploma in it as well but the problem is I am not good in coding i learned C language in a coaching centre but when I had 3-4 months gap between my diploma and degree i learned graphic design as I was not seeing my future in coding at that time and did 2 work from home internship(without any stipend) but the problem now is that I scared of the ai tools like mid journey and dalle which can be used to generate images and i personally think it will take over the graphic designer that are just starting so now I am confused as I have interest in game dev and video editing what is better option?

2024.06.09 11:29 tobeagram [Self-promo Sunday] Supernotes – a thoughtful notes app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac built by a team of two

Hey everyone! 🙋‍♂️ I'm Tobias, co-founder of Supernotes, a fast and intuitive notes app for Apple devices. With WWDC starting tomorrow, I thought it would be a great time to share what we've been building over the past 5 years.
My co-founder, Connor and I have always loved Apple products (my first was an iMac G5) and we wanted a notes app that lived up to Apple's standards. Maybe it's just us, but Apple Notes simply wasn't working for all our ideas, to-dos, drafts, quotes, clippings, code blocks etc... it didn't have enough features, was always unorganised and after a few hundred notes it became too much to manage. We also wanted an easier way to share and send notes, such as recipes and restaurant recommendations, to our friends (even those with green bubbles).
Our solution? Break down long-form notes into smaller, connected notecards that are easier to create, organize and share 📝 Almost like Lego but for your ideas. With Supernotes, you can:
And just last week, we released our own AI features (you can view a YouTube overview of the new release here). We've been concerned with how fast we're becoming reliant on AI for generating content, so we're taking a different approach. Instead of auto-completion, it highlights grammatical mistakes and reminds you of forgotten tags. Our AI helps you think more, not less.
Supernotes is designed and built by just the two of us. It's available to download on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac with free and paid plans. For your friends with non-Apple devices, we have apps for those covered too. As a small independent development team, we'd love to hear your thoughts, and if you have any questions, please pop them below 👇

Re-re-re-re introducing 35 Pokes: the meta where Trapinch is not afraid anymore!!
https://preview.redd.it/f64orm67mi5d1.png?width=872&format=png&auto=webp&s=2c618bf5ef27da21115332b2fdaa424eb639b719
35 Pokes is a format where 35 Pokemon are randomly selected to be usable every month! The idea is that with limited options you're forced to make do with what there is, which may be a Pokémon you'd never otherwise use, in match ups you'd never otherwise see them in!
We've had Hitmonchan, Regice, Shiinotc, and Grabodor have all been reliable staples in their respective metas! It's been a while since we've posted here, so we figured it was high time to make our presence known again and invite new people to join while this month's meta is still relatively fresh! First impressions for this month are that Delphox, Cyclizar, Trapinch, and Indeedee are seizing the meta but it's early days yet so who know what will happen!
A lot has happened since you heard from us last, including the crowning of our first ever 3-time champion alongside a brand-new 2-time champion to take his place. Signups for this month's tournament are coming very soon, and the random meta means that everybody from a 2-time finalist to a brand-new player could stake their claim on victory road!

Special Format Rules

  1. Z moves, Mega-Evolution, Tera, and Hidden Power are banned
  2. Forms are treated as entirely distinct pokemon from each other. If only Dugtrio-Alola is generated then you can only use Dugtrio-Alola.
  3. Baton Pass is legal, however You cannot have a combination of Moves, Abilities or Items that allows you to intentionally or unintentionally pass boosts, a substitute or passive recovery (Ingrain, Aqua Ring...) to another Pokemon. This includes abilities such as Defiant and Contrary.
  4. This format is played in National Dex AG on pokemon showdown. All tournament games must be played in National Dex AG using the challenge code posted below.
ᴶᵒᵉ ᶜˡᵃᵘˢᵉ ᵈᶦᶜᵗᵃᵗᵉˢ ᵗʰᵃᵗ ᵗʰᵉ ³⁵ᵗʰ ᵖᵒᵏᵉᵐᵒⁿ ᶦˢ ᶜʰᵒˢᵉⁿ ᵇʸ ᴶᵒᵉ
The current meta is taking longer to develop than usual, so there's still a ton of untapped potential hidden among the roster just waiting for you to unlock it! Maybe you'll finally deduce the secret to beating shed tail or find the secretes of the sun to unlock Exeggutor's true potential ( and maybe save Tokyo while you're at it)!

2024.06.09 11:04 Bash8325 Judge my first PC build. Need some advice.

Recently, a friend of mine asked me to build him a PC build for gaming. His budget is around $1500, plus $500 for the monitor and the perifericals. I have never built a PC before, so I would appreciate some advice on the build I have planned for him.
P.S. He's not interested in playing games in 4K, just in QHD.

2024.06.09 11:00 John_Swift1 SHRM Instructor's Top 20 Test Tips

  1. Time commitment. People who have succeeded on the SHRM certification exam report investing between 120 to 160 hours in their preparation. (That's a solid month: four weeks at 40 hours a week.) You might spend as little as 60 hours or as much as 180 hours—adjust as needed. But remember that hours alone aren't a guarantee of success; the time needs to be well-spent. Keep this in mind as you build your study plan. Look for moments you can steal—use your lunch break to work online in the SHRM Learning System, go out to your car and read a little, and never be without your flashcards (more on that below). It all adds up.
  2. Practice questions. The more practice questions you answer, the better prepared you'll be. Some of my students have found non-SHRM resources like study apps Quizlet and Kahoot to be helpful in this area.
  3. Explanations of answers. The online SHRM Learning System has many practice questions for both the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP practice module exams and finals. After you answer the questions, you'll see explanations for why the correct answers are correct and why the others are wrong. This will help you refine your thinking.
  4. No shortcuts. A word of warning: While practice exams are helpful, they're not a replacement for studying and learning. Some students become overconfident when they repeatedly take practice exams and see their scores improving—but they aren't learning the content, they're just memorizing those exams! Don't mislead yourself. You've got to do the reading, attend the classes, take notes and study them. On this exam (as in life!), there are no shortcuts to success.
  5. Flashcards. Become best friends with your flashcards. Whether you choose to print them out and cut them up or download them to an e-reader, always have them with you. That way, you can make good use of small bits of unexpected available time—waiting for a meeting to begin, standing in line at the store, etc. Flashcards help you remember concepts and definitions. If you understand a concept and know a definition, you've got a shot at answering an exam question correctly. (Flashcards are not enough on their own. But if you don't know a concept or definition when you're taking the exam, your chances of answering a question correctly are low.)
  6. Learning through stories. Throughout history, humanity has always learned through stories, whether sharing ancient lore around a fire or tales from a pulpit. People retain lessons when they can connect to them. Knowing the story behind SHRM exam content can be helpful as well. For example, there are stories behind key employment laws and court cases. What happened to Willie Griggs that made Griggs v. Duke Power a landmark decision? Why is what happened to the namesake of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act relevant today? While the SHRM certification exams won't test you on such stories per se, you might encounter related questions. If knowing the stories helps you retain the knowledge, search online and read all about them.
  7. Discussions and study groups.SHRM Connect is an online community for SHRM members to discuss all kinds of HR topics. Search for the "SHRM Certification Prep Group." For those of you who like to work in a study group, you might be able to find or start one in your area using this platform. Plus, it's a good networking opportunity—a double payoff.
  8. Now that you've read some tips on test preparation, here are a few tips for test taking: Trial run. A tutorial available on Prometric's website allows you to try out the test-taking platform before you take the actual test. Do a generic mini-test to use the highlight, strikethrough and flag functions and more. Becoming familiar with the system before the day of the exam will improve your confidence greatly.
  9. Long questions. It's easy to get distracted by all the information in situational judgment test items or long narrative questions on the exam. Stop to identify what the question truly is. Be sure to pick out the exact question you're being asked to answer.
  10. Multipart questions. If you encounter a block of text on the exam followed by multiple questions relating to it, different parts of that text will be useful for answering different questions. Use the highlight function to mark what stands out to you—what is relevant to each question—one by one. Erase the highlight when you've answered the question, then highlight the new material that relates to the next question and so on.
    1. HR means action!In the modern era of HR, we are expected to get things done and make things happen, to be proactive partners and leaders in our organizations—not sit and wait to be told what to do. The exam reflects this. Look for answers in which you are expected to act.
    2. Use the strikethrough function and other tools that help you focus. Strike through "distractors," which are answers you believe to be incorrect. Eliminating incorrect options improves your focus on the remaining options, which may increase your chances of selecting the correct answer. Learn how to use strikethrough with the tutorial available on Prometric's website (requires Adobe Flash Player version 10.2.0 or later) and practice using the test-taking system before your exam date.
    3. Use the flag function. Not sure what the answer is? Mark the question with a flag so you can return to it later. As you warm up through the exam, you may pick up hints from other questions and answers, or some piece of critical knowledge may get knocked loose from your memory, and you'll be able to come back to the flagged item. (How to use flags is something else you'll learn on the Prometric tutorial.)
    4. Use the calculator. You don't have to do math in your head. There's a built-in calculator, so use it. (Practice using the calculator, too, on the Prometric tutorial.)
    5. Use scratch paper. Scratch paper is provided by the testing center, so use it. Capture things while they are still in your short-term memory. Writing things down helps you see what you're doing, so scratch paper can also be useful for completing math calculations even if you use the calculator.
    6. Know HR math processes. While we're discussing calculations, keep in mind that the four multiple-choice answers offered for a math question will often reflect how the numbers in the question itself are used. For example, if the question involves the numbers 4 and 3, the answers to choose from might be: 7 (4 plus 3); 1 (4 minus 3); 12 (4 multipliedby3); or 1.3 (4 dividedby 3). Learn the processes required for HR math.
    7. Look for differentiator words in the questions. When you see differentiators—"least," "best," "quickest," "most important" and so on—use them to guide your analysis. These words require you to distinguish between a pretty good answer and the best answer.
    8. Approach absolutes in the answers with caution. When you see absolutes—"all," "always," "only," "never" and the like—beware! Absolutes in HR are unlikely and are just as unlikely to be correct answers on the exam. After all, how many things have you encountered in your career that are always or never true?
    9. Answer every question. Not answering is a bad idea: Don't leave questions unanswered. There's no penalty if you answer incorrectly—points are not taken away—so take a guess. It can't hurt, and you might guess correctly. (Of course, if you think you can guess your way through the whole exam, guess again! Refer to the very first test tip in Part 1, which discusses how many hours of preparation time you should plan for.)
    10. Watch your time. Keep your eye on the timer at the top of your screen. Don't dwell on one question for too long; in doing so, you might run out of time, sacrificing your chances of answering other questions correctly later.

2024.06.09 10:54 cometcake575 Making free advanced plugins (with public download)

I'm the developer of Origins-Reborn, a paper plugin recreation of the Origins mod. The way I ended up developing this plugin was by finding an advanced plugin that someone wanted, coding it for free and trying to develop it to function as a customisable, high quality public plugin.
I'm now trying to do the same thing again, and I'm looking for any suggestions people have (potentially a plugin you'd want on your own server), for things to develop next.
I'll develop these for free and upload them for public use, so the person suggesting the plugin and anyone else can download them. For this reason they shouldn't be highly specific to a certain server or be made to fix some specific problem only you have - just something you can easily download and put in your plugins folder.
The ideas should also not be things that already exist, e.g. 'crates plugin', since there's no point in remaking something that exists already.

2024.06.09 10:38 Yeo-il My dad is absolutely delusional

My dad has this image of me in his head that he simply refuses to change, no matter how I behave. Everything I do is bad to him. I don't have bad grades either: I graduated with a near perfect score, and I also have a classical pianist career outside school. Every single day, he lectures me on things I already know, as if I was 10 years old and have NO experience on the internet or in life whatsoever. He gets mad at the most random things and insists that I'm manipulating him. He constantly says that I'm addicted to "LGBT propaganda" just because I use the internet, Youtube, Instagram, Spotify, Tiktok (I don't even use Tiktok). He insists that my attention span is 1 minute long "like this entire generation", even though I watch 15-60 minute long videos every day, but he refuses to believe that. He also insist that I only watch people tripping and having stupid accidents, that's absolutely not true. He's also hysterical about the fact I pay for Spotify Premium and "listen to Taylor Swift". I do not listen to her but that's not the point: he has a classical music elitism, he thinks that EVERYTHING ELSE is garbage (meanwhile, he listens to other genres, apparently he's allowed to do that). So if I don't only listen to classical music, I'm following LGBT propaganda. He also doesn't understand that I don't simply download all those songs because I want to support the artists. And also, I have more than 1500 liked songs across all genres. I can't imagine only listening to one genre...... And this Premium is also the only subscription I pay for, and it's not even a lot. My dad makes up everything I do, and refuses to believe otherwise. He acts like everything I see online tells me not to have kids or something (while he's the main reason I don't want to give him grandchildren). I'm just.... so beyond frustrated, I'm 18 years old and he acts like I'm 12. He says I'm a huge disappointment and I have no future. I have dealt with this for many years but it just gets to me sometimes.

2024.06.09 10:08 duskmoon3 Sharing my experience of adding Rust (Tonic) support for P4Runtime and seeking enthusiastic PR reviewers

Hello, community.
Recently, I tried to add generated Rust code (actually prost and tonic code) to p4lang/p4runtime and submit a PR.
Here is my note of my experience: https://gist.github.com/duskmoon314/59ca06dd5cac6ed00a45a112d1ef5ba6
In brief, I think protoc-gen-prost is very useful for generating Rust code and publishing it as a normal crate. I like this way slightly more than the building script.
I hope this may be helpful to people who want to use protoc-gen-prost to generate rust code from protobuf files. I also want to receive suggestions from the community.
In addition, I am seeking people who are familiar with prost, tonic or protoc-gen-prost and have some free time to review my PR and help the P4 community.

2024.06.09 09:54 Steven_VR Better results in LMStudio then with ST (KoboldCPP or LMStudio server)

I have a weird issue and it seems others are not... I hope someone here can point me in the right direction.
I get great RP results for my character directly in LMStudio (out of the box) using Mahou-1.3-llama3-8B and putting in a system prompt of the character written in the first person.(Works great with other models too)
I decided to take the leap and get into ST for group chat and lore and other cool stuff.
I setup KoboldCPP and ST - added my character, ensured basic settings etc, and it spoke like a total moron. There was no "personality" anymore... it responded, but it had no vibe and did really long run-on responses.
I tried another downloaded character and it seemed the same.
I changed my character description to be more like the example character - same.
I wrote a "coded" character description - same.
I put the description elements in the "advanced" description - same.
The example character seems fine but that character is all about fluffy run on dialog so it is hard to compare.
I made sure no world, or lore was active - because it actually feels like there is another prompt somewhere between my character description and the server that injects: "Be boring. Provide direct, yet extremely long, vague, circular responses to all prompts" :-) {I reviewed the model logs and it's not sending anything like that}
I messed with tons of settings, (Temp, topP, repetition, etc - actually all of them one by one to try to find out what was wack because there MUST be a setting someplace doing this).. Results are basically the same (but now I understand what all the controls can do)
I thought it was KoboldCPP, So I connected LM Studio Server. Same thing...
I have tried other models - but again... when I load them direct in LMStudio I get pretty amazing results. When in ST they "work" but are just missing something.
It MUST be a setting or config someplace that I just can't find.
Any suggestions where I could look?

Were the trading halts during DFV's stream a little sus or a complete waste of time? Come code with me, let's code, let's code away
Trading halts from DFV's stream have been meming hard. But are they really what we think they are? This post will get quick and dirty and try to answer that question with a rough estimation using video frames as a replacement for the raw exchange data.
Before we begin, one rule that we all must try to understand is the Limit Up-Limit Down (LULD) rule. More about that can be read here:
https://nasdaqtrader.com/content/MarketRegulation/LULD_FAQ.pdf
Simplified TLDR - Not counting the latter end of power hour, we halt when the price of our beloved stock moves 5% away from the average of all trades over the last 5 minutes.
https://preview.redd.it/a3c2ank9kh5d1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=278eec4fdbff8311e6bab6354d0b14b606d33ec5
When trying to do an estimation like this, one's first instinct may be to eyeball the prices on the screen and maybe write down some numbers for calculations. But.. I can't even be trusted with a box of crayons, so how about letting those machines do that work for us.
Like my previous post, the recommended easy way to code along would be using a hosted notebook like Jupyter Lab.

Step 1 - Data Extraction

If have about 800 free MB, 3 hours of computer processing time, and a local environment set up with the necessary libraries (Jupyter lab won't work here), follow along with this step. It's pretty cool the kind of things that can be done with open source applications! If it sounds like too much work, I have uploaded a CSV of the raw extracted data that can get you up to speed to start directly on Step 2.
To do this step you will need to have installed ffmpeg, pytesseract, and OpenCV. You will also need to have the full quality stream (720p 60fps) ripped from YouTube. I'd love to shout out how to do that from the rooftops here, but as a precaution for the sake of our lovely subreddit, I'm going to zip my lips and just say "figure that part out."
Once you have the video, we will use ffmpeg to extract cropped pngs of every single frame. I've already chosen an ideal cropping that minimizes the confusion introduced from text that we are not interested in.
First the Linux command for making a folder called "png" that the frames will go into
mkdir png
Then the ffmpeg command that extracts 182,881 (yea 50 minutes is a LOT of frames) 80 x 30 images around the price ticker area of the video.
ffmpeg -i "Roaring Kitty Live Stream - June 7, 2024-U1prSyyIco0.mp4" -vf "crop=80:30:160:240" png/dfv_%06d.png
The codeblocks will use Python. You can the rest of Step 1 in a notebook (but pytesseract and OpenCV would need to be installed).
Import the necessary libraries
import os import cv2 import pandas as pd import pytesseract
Loop through every still in the png folder using OCR to extract the text to a list. Warning: this step will likely take several hours.
files = sorted(os.listdir("png")) results = [] for file in files: path = os.path.join("png", file) img = cv2.imread(path) text = pytesseract.image_to_string(img) results.append(text)
Saves a csv of the raw extracted text
raw = pd.Series(results) raw.to_csv("price_extraction_raw.csv", index=False)

Step 2 - Data Cleaning

If your continuing from Step 1, you'll probably already have a local environment setup that you feel comfortable working in. If not, just upload the CSV of the raw data from the earlier download link to a hosted notebook and you'll be good to go.
First inside the notebook, run this cell to import the libraries and the CSV with the raw frame data.
import numpy as np import pandas as pd # Loads the csv raw = pd.read_csv("price_extraction_raw.csv").squeeze() # Strips out unintended newline characters. raw=raw.str.replace(r"\n", "", regex=True)
Since we ran the optical recognition over all video frames, there will be some junk in the data. Don't worry though, the structure of the prices will make it very easy to clean up.
# Shows the rows with detected text. raw.dropna()
https://preview.redd.it/nxzdtp8cwh5d1.png?width=289&format=png&auto=webp&s=d11ea0c8b0395d335fe6c4514d8153773e88865c
This small codeblock will take care of the false positives.
# Eliminate any characters that are not numbers or decimals. cleaned = raw.str.replace(r"[^\d\.]", "", regex=True).str.strip().replace("", None) # Clear any rows that have less than 5 characters (two digits, a period, and two decimal places). cleaned = np.where(cleaned.str.len() < 5, None, cleaned)
Since we used the entire video, the index accurately references the current frame number. To make it easier to navigate, we can add additional columns containing the minute, second, and frame number (that starts over every 60 frames).
# Converts the single column Series into a multi-column DataFrame. cleaned = pd.DataFrame(cleaned, columns=["price"]) # Creates the time columns cleaned["m"] = cleaned.index//3600 # 60 frames * 60 seconds per minute cleaned["s"] = (cleaned.index // 60) % 60 cleaned["f"] = (cleaned.index % 3600) % 60
At this point, we are almost done cleaning, but on some frames, the optical recognition accidentally detected a fake decimal at the end.
cleaned[cleaned["price"].str.len() > 5]
https://preview.redd.it/80mjac9zwh5d1.png?width=210&format=png&auto=webp&s=826fdddec734e183fe8724bb6e67980231ebb6ea
If we check those with the video, we can see that they are indeed valid (image is cropped here, but holds true for all), so it is safe to remove the last character here.
# Removes trailing characters when there are more than 5 of them. cleaned["price"] = np.where(cleaned["price"].str.len() > 5, cleaned["price"].str[:5], cleaned["price"]) # Changes the datatype to allow calculations to be made. cleaned["price"] = cleaned["price"].astype(float)
It will also be handy to have each frame indicate if the price reflects that of a trading halt.
# A list of the start and end of every trading halt in video (by price change). halts = [(10802, 19851), # Initial video halt (26933, 45977), # 2nd halt (61488, 80414), # 3rd halt (81325, 100411), # 4th halt (100778, 119680), # 5th halt (136992, 119680), # 6th halt (166473, 178210), # 7th halt ] # Uses the halt frames, to indicate halts in the dataset. cleaned["halted"] = np.where(cleaned["price"].isna(), None, False) # Assumes no unknown values for (start, end) in halts: cleaned["halted"] = np.where((cleaned.index >= start) & (cleaned.index < end), True, cleaned["halted"])
A quick preview showing the frames with indicated halts.
cleaned[cleaned["halted"] == True]
https://preview.redd.it/3usz3cnlyh5d1.png?width=255&format=png&auto=webp&s=5fa94f1e313029b7e568d7c8f4b0cc620a1dc17d

Step 3 - Calculating the bands

At this point, we've done enough to run some basic calculations across all of the frames. The following function will automatically do them for any given specified frame number.
def assess_halt(df, index): # The frame that is exactly 5 minutes before the frame examined. frame_offset = index - (5 * 60 * 60) # Since there will be no volume during a halt, we want to exclude # remove values where a halt is indicated. prices = df["price"].copy() prices = np.where(df["halted"] == True, np.nan, prices) # The price at the requested frame. halt_price = df["price"][index] # the frame right before (to rule out the halt suppressing the actual amount) price_before_halt = df["price"][index-1] # The average of all extractable prices in the five minute window. average = np.nanmean(prices[frame_offset:index]) # If there is insufficient at the specified frame, this ends calculations early. if np.isnan(average) or np.isnan(price_before_halt): return halt_price, price_before_halt, None, None, None, None, None # The count can help gauge robustness of the estimated average. count = np.count_nonzero(~np.isnan(prices[frame_offset:index])) seconds = count / 60 # The estimated bands are calculated by adding and subrtracting 5% from the average. band_low = average - .05 * average band_high = average + .05 * average # Logic to test whether the halt price or the price just before the halt is estimated to be beyond the 5% bands. outside = ((halt_price < band_low) or (halt_price > band_high)) or ((price_before_halt < band_low) or (price_before_halt > band_high)) return halt_price, price_before_halt, average, seconds, band_low, band_high, outside
Using the list of halts earlier, we can conveniently loop through and make some rough estimations.
rows = [] for halt in halts: row = assess_halt(cleaned, halt[0]) rows.append(row) assessment = pd.DataFrame(rows, columns=["halt_price", "price_before_halt", "price_average", "seconds_of_data", "band_low", "band_high", "outside_bands"]) assessment
https://preview.redd.it/hznds6dc7i5d1.png?width=721&format=png&auto=webp&s=9ccd4eb9358c78c77599cf30934f22e633a733e0

Thoughts

What is shown here is highly interesting! To see almost every recorded stop "inside the band" indicates that an overly zealous circuit breaker (or maybe even strategically priced trades to create halts) is not entirely outside the realm of possibility. But it should be noted that these estimations are by no means definitive. Most importantly this method does not account for fluctuations in trading volume. To do it right, we would need access to the raw trading data which as far as I know is unavailable.
I hope this can serve as a good starting point for anyone who is able to take this further.
Edited: just now to fix bug in final outside band logic.
