2024.06.09 17:15 spongebobsworsthole Negotiating debt

I (24f) have a charged off loan that I am trying to negotiate a payment plan for. They offered for me to pay 70% of the loan over 24 monthly installments. I want to get it down to 60% over 24 months.
I’m in debt because I had a suicide attempt and was hospitalized, and I left my job so I could get treatment. I signed up for National Debt Relief because I was in no condition to take care of my finances myself, then once I was better and educated myself I realized that was going to ruin my credit and I didn’t want all my accounts to be closed, so it wasn’t the right choice for me once I went back to work.
Anyway, is it good to tell creditors about your hardships? In the time I stopped paying I was hospitalized for suicidal ideation, injured in a major car accident, and my cousin who I was close with was murdered (in that order). Will telling them about this stuff help my case, or will they find a way to use it against me? I have documentation and can prove it all if necessary, but I don’t like the idea of giving creditors all this info about my life. I’m unsure if it will cause them to pity me and give me a better settlement or if they’ll fuck me over some way. Any advice is appreciated!

2024.06.09 17:12 Neurotic_Cow Moving in with sig. other financial logistics. Should I sell my house?

Hi all,
My significant other and I are planning on moving in together but are having trouble figuring out what makes the most financial sense.
I (32F) make $150,000+ per year, no debt other than my mortgage. Purchased my house in 3/2023 for $410,000. Estimated value now is $450,000 with the improvements I have made since moving in. I have a mortgage with $380,000 remaining with a 6.6 interest rate. I am going to have to refinance or sell before January 2025 due to stipulations from a divorce settlement. Unfortunately if I sell prior to 3/2025, it’s my understanding I’ll get f***ed with capital gains tax. We like my actual physical house but the location isn’t ideal.
He (33M) makes 75k, has 10k student debt and his own mortgage. His house was purchased in June 2023 for $260,000 and he has about 180,000 remaining on his mortgage with a 5.9 interest rate. His house needs quite a bit of work (some plumbing, electrical issues, basement needs to be sealed, etc) but is in a great location and obviously much cheaper than my house.
Trying to figure out what makes the most sense. He has talked about trying to rent out his house and moving in with me, and later on purchasing a house together. I have also considered just selling my house instead of refinancing and moving in with him because it’s significantly cheaper, but I also hesitate to do that as well. It seems like a good time to sell in our local market but I dont know if that makes sense given the capital gains tax.
Help?

2024.06.09 16:43 ImportantTouch3112 Sued for a bad review?

Hello all not sure if my post belongs here, but hoping I can get some advice. My husband and I are being harassed by a company we utilized to help settle a debt with a creditor. Initially everything was fine but the owner was not very helpful and the numbers he was giving us for the settlement were higher than what we owed. Due to this my husband left a one star review on the Better Business Bureau website. Now I know that may have seemed like a knee jerk reaction but the owner was not responding to our questions or emails and if he did he kept responding with a very condescending tone. As soon as my husband left that review the owner stepped up and began to revolve our issue for a lesser amount. He then personally called my husband to let him know how much he had settled for and asked him to remove his “inaccurate” review. My husband was hesitant to due so because he still felt what he wrote was accurate but as he had not signed off on the newly settled agreement he was afraid if he told the owner no that he would take back the offer. My husband then told him he would think about it and the owner backed off.
Well my husband ended up signing the final documents and made the first installment payment and decided to change the review. However, upon looking at his review it showed that there was a response from the owner on it. The owner proceeded to comment that my husband was giving a false and inaccurate review of the business and proceeded to put my husband and I’s personal information in the review. He spoke on how we had a substantial tax debt and how due to that he could only help us so much. Now, even if that is true or not, I did not feel that that was appropriate for him to put our personal business out there. If he wasn’t happy with his review, he could’ve just reached out to my husband to discuss it which he did. So I do not understand why he responded, knowing that everyone could see this, but then also reached out to my husband to talk to him about it. He did not, however, tell my husband about his response to his review we stumbled across that ourselves. they’re about 13 other reviews for this company on the BBB website and there is only one other one star review. Again the owner responded to this one star review by putting the customers personal information. Now ours wasn’t as bad as this other persons. the other person unfortunately got a paragraph long response with a full on timeline trying to disprove this person’s review. After seeing that, I felt that we should not remove our review because he is showing tremendous amount of unprofessionalism.
Now to the present, my husband and I have received an email from the company owner stating that he spoke to my husband a month ago about the review ( which he did) and then my husband promised to take down the review( which he did not.) He is now saying that if my husband does not take down the review that he will be taking legal action against us Because we are hurting his business negative review up and that he has suffered six figure losses due to us. The way I see it, You’re always gonna have negative reviews but if you have more good than bad reviews, then you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. The other one star review that this company has is for the same reason, my husband, after the one star review. The good reviews, however, rave about the company being efficient and responsive. Unfortunately, that was not our experience until the very end. It should not have taken us leaving a bad review for this person to do what we hired them for. We also had already paid for the services so that is not an excuse for him not having done the work because he had been paid. My question is, is this something that we could potentially be sued over? Or can we ask him to stop emailing us and harassing us about removing this review?

The heat and the pressure are on—for our planet, and for one more World War.
Last Week in Collapse: June 2-8, 2024
This is Last Week in Collapse, a weekly newsletter compiling some of the most important, timely, useful, soul-crushing, ironic, stunning, exhausting, or otherwise must-see/can’t-look-away moments in Collapse.
This is the 128th newsletter. You can find the May 26-June edition here if you missed it last week. You can also receive these posts (with images) every Sunday in your email inbox with Substack.

Bengaluru broke a 133-year rain record by almost 10mm last Sunday, with 111mm (4.37 inches) of rain falling in a single day. In Sri Lanka, some 24,000 people were displaced by recent flooding. A heat wave swept through the southwest United States and northern Mexico. Part of Niger already broke its June temperature record. Parts of New South Wales, Australia broke nighttime temperatures as well; so did the Philippines, and Vietnam. And a heat wave in Greece.
Atmospheric blocking” happens when regions of the atmosphere remain stationary for days or weeks, imposing similar weather on a region for a while. A study released in Nature Communications looked at Svalbard, which is warming faster than the Arctic, which is itself warming faster than most of the rest of the planet. The researchers claim that atmospheric blocking has resulted in warmer & wetter conditions in Svalbard, which is driving its ice loss. “The augmented blocking in the Ural and Scandinavian regions in the future combined with the projected declines in sea ice, and increases in sea surface temperatures and moisture availability, will likely increase the magnitude and frequency of exceptional rainfall incidents similar to the 2016 occurrence, posing further hazards to the population and ecosystems in Svalbard.”
A paywalled study in Nature Climate Change emphasizes “in the absence of a global tipping point there is no safety margin within which permafrost loss would be acceptable.” The summary states that permafrost melt does not have a worldwide tipping point, but rather several local temperature thresholds. Permafrost worldwide is expected to be all melted once global temperature gains hit 5 or 6 °C.
We are currently in the brief neutral period between El Niño and La Niña, expected to begin around August. Meteorologists expect temperatures in the eastern Pacific to decline for between 1 and 3 years—and for stronger Atlantic hurricanes. A 14-page report from the WMO forecasts a particularly wet summer for Central America.
Monsoon storms in Sri Lanka killed 14, mostly by falling trees, though others drowned or were covered by landslides. Texas saw “canteloupe-size hail” fall during a freak tornado; some think it is a record size for the region. Experts say some 23% of Africa’s land has been degraded, by five major factors: 1) invasive species, 2) climate change, including Drought and flooding, 3) resource extraction, 4) deforestation, and 5) pollution, including algal blooms. Poverty, population growth, and resource dependencies have aggravated the problem, says the article.
In Kashmir, a glacier Collapsed, sending three plunging into the ice, one of whom has still not been found. In the Philippines, a volcanic mud landslide swept into a village; volcano alerts were raised to 2 (on a 0-5 scale). Rising sea levels are displacing residents of one of Panama’s islands (pop: ~1,200); others will follow. Greece is gearing up for a fierce wildfire season ahead. And, in a moment of hopeful news, Sweden is banning bottom trawling in its “marine protected areas.”
In the EU, early polling appears to show a “greenlash,”, a backlash to the Green Alliance—and perhaps a loss of some 30% of their 72 current seats in the EU Parliament (705 total). Some blame the “moral superiority complex” of Greens, while others believe it is their lack of compromise on important issues. Farmer protests also damaged Green sentiment; now future sweeping climate reforms will probably have to wait years to get passed, since conservatives are expected to make gains. Most results will emerge within 24 hours of this post.
Worldwide, 39% of environmental journalists have faced threats due to their reporting—according to a 112-page report by the Earth Journalism Network. Most of the threats came to reporters writing about illegal extraction operations.
Roughly 20% of sealife near the surface is expected to face a “triple threat” of climate hazards: extreme heat, oxygen loss and acidification. Some of these species will die in place; others will be forced into progressively smaller living spaces. Most of the danger lies in the northern Pacific. The full study in AGU Advances has more.
The UN Secretary-General announced that we are on the “highway to climate hell.” And we aren’t wearing any seatbelts. The EU Copernicus Programme says last May was the hottest on record. This means the last 12 months were the hottest on record, with each consecutive month setting a new monthly record. Our planet is supposedly on the edge of 1.5 °C temperature increase, but some think we’ve already surpassed it.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) released a 27-page report, “Global Annual to Decadal Climate Update 2024-2028,” predicting short-term temperatures exceeding the 1.5 °C mark.
“The global mean near-surface temperature for each year between 2024 and 2028 is predicted to be between 1.1°C and 1.9°C higher than the average over the years 1850-1900. It is likely (80% chance) that global mean near-surface temperature will exceed 1.5°C above the 1850-1900 average levels for at least one year between 2024 and 2028. It is about as likely as not (47%) that the five-year mean will exceed this threshold….Arctic warming over the next five extended winters (November to March), relative to the average of the 1991-2020 period, is predicted to be more than three times as large as the warming in global mean temperature. Predicted precipitation patterns for 2024, relative to the 1991-2020 average, suggest an increased chance of low rainfall over North-East Brazil and an increased chance of wet conditions in the African Sahel, consistent with the warmer-than-usual temperatures in the North Atlantic….
The Yale Center for Environmental Law & Policy released its 2024 Environmental Policy Index, and the 204 pages illustrate the state of sustainability in 180 countries, according to 58 indicators. The document, full of useful graphics and accessible summaries, presents a world in escalating danger of global heating, pollution, and biodiversity loss. It is well worth skimming. These kinds of climate reports usually seem to me like, overall, much more time was spent making them than people spend reading them…
“Only five countries — Estonia, Finland, Greece, Timor-Leste, and the United Kingdom — cut their GHG emissions at the rate needed to reach zero by 2050….After climate change, biodiversity loss has emerged as the most serious and irreversible environmental crisis….As of 2022, aggregated GHG emissions were falling in 60 countries but still rising in 128…. Human activities, namely the combustion of fossil fuels, of which CO2 is an inevitable byproduct, have caused a nearly 50 percent of the increase in CO2 levels in the atmosphere since the industrial revolution, with atmospheric concentration surpassing 426 parts per million in April 2024 — a level higher than at any point in human history….China, the United States, and India are pivotal, accounting for over half of global GHG emissions…China used more cement in two years (2020 and 2021) than the United States did in the entire twentieth century….Air pollution remains the most serious environmental threat to public health. Long-term exposure to fine particulate matter less than 2.5 µm in diameter (PM2.5) caused 7.8 million premature deaths in 2021, close to 12 percent of global deaths…” -selections from the first third of the report

Mexico saw its first human case of a bird flu strain, H5N2, in a dead man supposedly with no known previous exposure to animals. Two turkey farms got outbreaks in Minnesota, and Iowa’s first dairy farm reported bird flu as well. American health authorities expect H5N1 human cases to rise in the coming weeks. Bird flu was also found in San Francisco last week. Millions of human vaccine doses for bird flu are being prepared for the United States this summer.
Citigroup says the United States is already in a recession, though other institutions disagree. Nevertheless, junk bonds are becoming even more junky, and economists agree that the economy is at least slowing down. Credit card debt is reportedly rising, and the “personal savings rate” has dropped to pre-COVID levels. “America’s debt accumulation over the last seven years is akin to the costs of a world war,” says the article. Cuts to the Federal Reserve interest rate are coming, and the rise of tariffs is unlikely to stop soon. And Europe’s strongest economy, Germany, is not seeing a strong recovery from last year’s recession.
Thousands are starving in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, where Drought and school dropouts have also worsened. Investigators claim in a new report that both sides in the Tigray War committed grave war crimes and “acts of genocide” in the conflict, which ended (on paper, anyway) in November 2022; intercommunal violence continues at a lower intensity.
The American Heart Association released a report projecting the rates of heart illnesses by 2050, and they believe the rate of hypertension among adults will rise from about 51% in 2020 to 61% in 2060. Diabetes rates are expected to jump from about 16% in 2020 to almost 27% in 2050; and obesity rates will expand 17% to over 60%... A number of other heart conditions are expected to worsen as well, though at least high cholesterol rates are expected to decrease.
A 12-page report by Oil Change International says what we all know: most nations are failing to meet climate targets. “Some G7 countries are massively expanding fossil fuel production at home, while others are investing in more fossil fuel infrastructure abroad.” China is, far and away, adding more renewable energy capacity than any other nations on earth, supposedly adding “over 90% of all renewable capacity mentioned in NDCs {nationally determined contributions}” in the 2020s so far.
The U.S. FDA has unanimously recommended a new vaccine be developed to address the JN.1 COVID variant. Vaccine-manufacturers say that a new vaccine could arrive as early as mid-August. A 242-page prepublication report on the long-term dangers of Long COVID, with a view to planning future impacts on Social Security.
“Even individuals with a mild initial course of illness can develop Long COVID with severe health effects….Women are twice as likely as men to experience Long COVID….Long COVID can cause more than 200 symptoms and affects each person differently….There currently is no curative treatment for Long COVID itself. Management of the condition is based on current knowledge about treating the associated health effects and other sequelae….Long COVID symptoms generally improve over time, although preliminary studies suggest that recover can plateau 6-12 months after acute infection. Studies have shown that only 18-22 percent of those who have persistent symptoms at 5-6 months following infection have fully recovered by 1 year. Among those who do not improve, most remain stable, but some worsen.” -selections from the study summary
Germany reported African swine flu in some pigs in the northeast. Monkeypox cases remain in the United States, and at higher rates than last year, despite waning media coverage. And four strains of dengue fever, yes four, are still sweeping through Brazil with no end in sight.
A number of current & former employees at OpenAI are warning of the careless pursuit of dominance of the artificial intelligence arena—and the supposed 70% chance that AI could bring about “doom” for humanity. Some of the computer scientists believe that a general intelligence (AGI) could arrive as soon as 2027—a generation earlier than previous estimates of roughly 2050. "The world isn’t ready, and we aren’t ready," said one dissenting researcher.

The intervention into Haiti is almost ready to go, but gangsters in Haiti have escalated attacks against police in advance of the Kenya-led operation, set to begin in a week or two. “The gangs are just waiting for the Kenyans, they’re just cracking their knuckles and stretching out.…It’s going to be a battle if not a bloodbath of a war, because the gangs are ready,” said one ex-diplomat. A new PM has been installed, Garry Conille, a guy who previously served as PM for 4 about months in 2011-2012. Gangs vying for power control roughly 80% of Port-Au-Prince; will they remain fragmented upon the arrival of an outside coalition, or make an alliance of convenience to oppose police intervention?
Although New Caledonia’s state of emergency has ended, over $1B of damage has been wrought by rioters opposing an expansion of voting rights. Analysts say that the Pacific island’s abundant nickel reserves—essential for France’s renewable energy push—have seen their extraction obstructed by recent events. A curfew remains in place, and social cohesion has been seriously damaged by the protests and the central government’s reactions.
President Biden issued new orders restricting the flow of migrants and asylum-seekers at the Mexico border. At the U.S./Canada border, migrant arrivals have spiked 1000%+ in the last 3 years. Days before the EU election, Portugal instituted stronger controls over immigration. On the Poland/Belarus border, a Polish soldier died, after being stabbed by a migrant from Belarus.
Georgia’s controversial foreign agents bill has been signed into law despite strong protests from the masses. Some call the law a form of Russian hybrid warfare, though Russia contends that allowing foreign media funding functions as a kind of anti-Russian hybrid warfare on its own.
South Korea suspended a military agreement with North Korea over their waste balloons sent into the South. This will result in a more militarized border, outside the DMZ, in the coming months. President Putin is also planning a visit to Pyongyang, which has been long-supplying materiel to Russia for use in Ukraine. A border clash between Chinese and Indian forces took place in their contested mountains—using only sticks and stones.
Conditions in Gaza are said to be “beyond crisis levels” for the 1M+ people who have been displaced from Rafah, as the Israeli advance continues—despite calls from the ICJ to halt the operation. “The sounds, the smells, the everyday life, are horrific and apocalyptic,” said one observer. Killings in the West Bank have now exceeded 500 since October 7, and aid deliveries have sunk 65%+ since the Rafah offensive began. A strike on a school killed 45 people sheltering there, according to Gaza officials. In the coastal settlement of al-Mawasi, where many IDPs moved after the Rafah invasion began, toilets are so scarce that over 4,000 people share a single latrine.
The battlefield is expanding; in some ways, it has always been all-encompassing, and it’s only now that the world is re-learning it. Ukraine has sent soldiers to Syria to fight Wagner Group mercenaries operating in the failed state. Ukraine had earlier intervened in Sudan to combat Russian forces operating in the country. Ukraine also struck an air defense unit inside Russia for the first time, marking another escalation in the War. Russia struck Ukraine’s largest hydroelectric power plant in Dnipro, which is now in “critical condition.” Russia reportedly intends to restart the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant at some point, though international regulators argue that it would be unsafe to turn Europe’s largest nuclear facility online while War still rages around it. Half of Ukraine’s electrical generation has been taken offline. Although weapons are reaching Ukraine’s frontlines, they are not enough to change the tide of the War—and are still outnumbered by Russian soldiers & munitions. Ukraine is also crowd-sourcing 3D-printing drone parts to support their drone fleets—a key part of future modern warfare.
Russia also claims that French military instructors within Ukraine present a lawful military target for Russian forces—and an opportunity to start WWIII. But others believe the flashpoint may come from elsewhere—Taiwan, or the unfolding Israel/Hamas/Hezbollah/Iran conflict, which are intensifying on the Lebanon/Israel border. Russia is also taking over Niger’s uranium reserves, once held by a French corporation. And four Russian sea vessels will be visiting Cuba—but not carrying nuclear weapons.
Around Sudan’s capital, looters, checkpoints, and violence have been established. Several torture chambers have been discovered, and the smell of death hangs in the air of a few neighborhoods, contested by both sides. The number of displaced people is approaching 10M. Russia is supposedly playing both sides to its advantage. “All over Sudan, people are going hungry because they have lost everything, the economy has collapsed, and armed men frequently steal what little aid is available,” said one reporter. The insurgent RSF forces are said to not only be fighting for the future, but fighting over history as well. The National Museum has become a cemetery for RSF fighters. University archives have been burned. And ancient artifacts have been cleared out, sold to mysterious buyers, stashed away in unknown places, or simply destroyed… Other horror stories are still emerging; this article details some of the worst recent tales in the War.
One major NATO supplies provider claims that a decade of arms accumulation is coming, to replenish stockpiles given to Ukraine and in advance of a potential open War between China and whatever western nations decide to participate. China announced its intention to detain vessels moving into its alleged national waters near the Philippines—and presumably to sink those which resist. Ukraine used up six years’ worth of shoulder-fired missiles, like javelins, in just one year. The development of the F-35 will exceed $2T, although the U.S. military is planning on using it less than previously expected. NATO is also planning its rapid-transit troop corridors through Europe to the expected frontlines of a potential open War against Russia.

Select comments/threads from the subreddit last week suggest:
-It is a common refrain that the education system is a bellwether for Collapse. It is also a symbol—alongside our food system, plastic dependency, state militaries, and many other institutions—of how difficult it apparently is to change course. The institutional friction and incentives are burnt in. This detailed post on the (American) school system and the “metacrisis” and much more. Several thorough comments build on the OP’s thesis. Peek into teachers for a glimpse into our doomed future.
-People in southern California are evidently closing their eyes and ears to Collapse, if this weekly observation is to be believed. The author writes about their unfulfilled hope that humanity might turn the ship around during the COVID period, cognitive biases, the persistence of COVID denial, plastics, and the early burning sun.
-Society is closing in on a Doom-Awakening, says the comments on this post. Some disagree (see the above observation).
-Nothing works, and everything is breaking—say many terrific comments in this self-post about the lack of empathy, passion, quality products, and the atrocious job market.

2024.06.09 13:03 Tasty-Initiative-556 Do I have a case???

Was hired for a security position by a man claiming to have been running his business for 20 years. Turns out, there is no business and he's just contracted by the regime of 120 condos. Then in turn he hired us. Better yet, as 1099 independent contractors. I for one aren't a contractor, nor do I have any of the rights of contractor. In fact, the complete opposite. I was trained on the position, I read a handbook he made, we have to wear khakis, white collar shirt, black belt, and presentable footwear, paid by the hour weekly, and my hours come from a schedule sent out every Saturday for the following week. Then to top it off, I recently found out that he makes 8 bucks an hour for every hour I work. "Admin" fee. So last year I worked right about 3100. Why, because it was beneficial for him to let me work more hours so he could get paid as well rather then given me a raise. So he fraudulently posed as a business owner, collected my personal information ssn, dob, and home address. And now refuses to give me my tax form, which I believe this it was different and we were to fill out something that wasn't needed before on the w2 I think. If that's the case, he did it for me or someone did. For the last two years my job title said security on my pay stubs, recently changed to property greeter. I've been suspended without pay for being late to work, and almost fired again for the same reason. Mind you, I still worked 900 hours of overtime (for straight pay). And clearly misclassified. So this is how it works... imc property management company handles the breakers Financials and is the physical property manager. So, Breakers regime hired imc for accounting and much more; my so called boss hired us, does our payroll, turns it over to imc, which then cuts us a check out of the Breakers account. Now I've talked to 4 attorneys and everyone ended up dropping or not taking it. I'm I not seeing something here? This is clearly breaking multiple laws... Not to mention state HPR laws I'm sure require you to be licensed and bonded to work for them.. I think. Someone help me out here, please. The effect this had on my life was terrible. Any help, advise, number to call, anything... I would very grateful and in debt to ya... If anything, thanks for listening...

Unpaid eSALAD Loan No PDC
I have an unpaid esalad loan worth 124k and lumubo sa interest na 220k. Before ung account ko is asa collection agency and now binalik nila sa bank under legal dept. Nakareceive na ako ng email from the bank (though im not sure if they are really from the bank or just forwarded sa another collection agency since ung domain ng email nila is naka gmail.com lang instead of the bank email domain) advising na my case is for investigation sa prosecutor office and a hearing will be serve if I would not contact them to settle. They sited the article 315 for estafa case which I dont know why kasi never naman ako nagissue ng PDC since eSalad ito and consistent naman ako nakipagusap sa mga collection agency to settle this debt.
They are forcing me to pay 124k on the spot or else daw magpush sila sa case for 220k, which I dont have the money for except sa natitirang 4k. I told them nicely naman na I can pay 4k and another 10k sa friday and every 15th of the succeeding month, june onwards, I would pay for 10k and on the 6th month which is November I can settle the 60k just to close of the principal na 124k.
They ask me to settle the 60k upront and staggerd un remaining na 10k. I told them na hindi kaya kasi ung 60k dun ko pa kukunin sa 13th month ko. I have a current loan sa Unionbank na binabayaran ko na 17k per month and gladly current palagi un payment and salary deducted sya, plus ako ang bread winner dito sa bahay kaya salo ko tuition ng 2 kong anak plus utility bills. Wala po ako luho, talagang nagkaroon ako ng financial difficulties last year for 6 month mahigit because I lost my job dahil umaabot ng 160/100 un BP ko and pre diabetic po ako. I also have psychosocial disability with severence anxiety and depression clinical diagnosed since 2008.
They allow me to settle the 4k and then sabi nung kausap ko na iprepresent daw nya sa attorney handling my case ung proof of payment na pinadala ko if papayag sa nirequest kong settlement. I told them naman na willing ako magsettle on my own terms kasi ito ang realistic for me to pay my debts and as much as I want to hindi ako makakapaglabas ng 60k or 124k or worst 220k on the spot now kasi may mga bayarin ako sa bahay at loans din.
I want to continue the 10k payment monthly though what of hindi sila pumayag sa request ko amd maginsist sila ng 124k or 220k, can I just ignore them nalang and continue paying 10k monthly until maclose ko ung principal na 124k? Will they still pursue the case na sinasabi nila kaht maghuhulog naman ako buwan buwan? Should I tell them na hindi ko tlaga kaya un 124k or 220k on the spot payment and I will stick with the 10k payment monthly?
Please advise

2024.06.09 09:28 oakit Advice to get out of $16k in credit card debt

Hi there,
I am in a bit of credit card debt and am trying my best to get out of it but I need help. I am not quite sure how to get out of it. I have about $16k in credit card debt and make $85k a year. I also have student loans I’m paying off and a car loan. I looked into debt settlement but do not want to tank my credit. I am not quite sure what to do to pay the least amount of interest on my credit card debt. Not sure who I should speak to in order to help get me out of debt. Any advice is appreciated.

2024.06.09 04:49 ThrowRA7elves Burner Phone- Final Update

We met with the lawyers earlier this week and I was pleased with the settlement for the most part. She agreed to give me the house in exchange for assuming $11K of credit card debt. I had originally told her if we had to sell the house I would be moving to another city and reconciliation would probably be off the table.
I did have to commit to three more couples counseling sessions under the pretense of working on having an open relationship. She wants to move back in soon but I said I needed some more time with my own personal therapist before I'm comfortable with that. All that matters is that she signed the settlement agreement and after a short waiting period, the divorce will be final.
Thanks for everyone's support and advice and this will be my final update. Once the divorce is final, I will follow one suggestion to let her read the posts and realize the player got played.

2024.06.09 03:05 Accurate_Body4277 I'm a Living ATM

For some background, my biological father didn't raise me. He spent most of his life with his other families or in prison for drug abuse. He defaulted on child support payments, despite making good money, and my younger brother and I lived in abject poverty as a result. My brother left home at 17. I've barely seen him since. I've been VLC with my brother for almost 20 years and VLC/NC with my biological father for the last 5 years.
My biological father got out of prison in the early 2000s and tried establishing a relationship after my mother forced him to help take care of my younger brother. It's mostly okay. Bio father's third wife didn't like having a kid in her house, but they managed.
My biological father starts abusing drugs again. Gets sent to prison for 15-20 years this time. Out of nowhere, I got a phone call from a prison social worker asking if my biological father would be allowed to live in my home after release. My partner discussed it and agreed he could stay for a few months. It's a nightmare. My partner can't stand him. He won't abide by any rules in my home. We help him find an apartment and things are okay for a year or two. I do my best to try to get to know my biological father as an adult. He makes it clear he expects me to think of him like the father who raised me instead of the father who abandoned me.
A couple of years later, my bio father ended up getting kicked out of his apartment because he let my younger brother stay with him and he stole tools from the landlord's tool sheds, broke a door down, and did other things that made him unwelcome. Bio father insists he has to come live with me. At this point, I'm newly married to someone. We've barely been together for six months as a married couple. She's the one who convinces me to take him in again.
I spent over a decade taking care of my chronically and, later, terminally ill mother. I worked 3 jobs and Paid for a private room in a quality ALF; I did whatever I could to help her. I made it clear to my biological father that I didn't have it in me emotionally or financially to do the same thing for him. He could stay for six months to a year at most. He'd need to get rid of his credit card debt and make serious efforts to find a new apartment, even get a part-time job at Walmart or Publix if he had to.
My biological father made himself an absolute nightmare. He refused to pay off his debt. He refused to find a part-time job. He refused to look for a place to live. He said it was pointless because he was a felon and nobody would rent to him. He complained that we didn't include him every time we went out to dinner. He made belittling comments to my wife.
Somehow, despite all this, my wife got pregnant. We were scared but ecstatic. We told my biological father that he was going to have to leave before the baby was born so that we could have a nursery. My brother and his wife were having financial trouble (ran out of personal injury scam settlement money), so my bio father decided it was the perfect time to go live with them. They needed his help anyway.
My wife and I end up divorcing after a miscarriage and the fallout from my biological father coming to live with us so early in our marriage.
My brother and his wife fell on hard times. I'd help them a little here and there with groceries or paying the power bill or rent. Eventually, the requests for money get bigger and bigger: deposits for new apartments, deposits to turn utilities on due to poor credit, and car payments. My brother guilts me into it saying that since he's taking care of "the man who raised me" I should help.
I feel incredibly guilty for the success I've had in life. I have a good job and a house. I keep giving him money. My brother has me convinced that it's my fault his life is so bad, because I was "the golden child" and I took all of the resources that he should've had.
I've given them tens of thousands of dollars. I don't even want to say how much. We're talking about the cash price of a luxury car territory. It's never enough. "I know you have some more money. Give us some more money. We don't have anything."
I got them an apartment. They got kicked out. I helped them get another apartment. I emptied my bank account to do it and lived off credit cards for months. They can't afford to get the power turned on. I have no more money to help them. I get text messages saying the sheriff in their county wants to talk to me about why I won't pay their power deposit.
That's probably not true. My father has died three times in the last two years when they needed extra money. My brother's estranged children have come out of the woodwork suddenly wanting a relationship, and he needs money to go see them.
They've insisted that I'm obligated to let them come live in my house, simply because I have one and they're biologically related to me.
My Rabbi, my therapist, and the attorney I retained to deal with various legal threats they've made have all assured me that I don't have any moral or legal obligations to continue helping them to this degree. My biological father didn't raise me. My brother hasn't been kind to me throughout my life.
But, I feel so incredibly guilty.

2024.06.09 02:56 Celia_Lei What to do with 40k

We are about to get 40k net - or about 30% of our yearly net income - from a legal settlement. TFSA, RRSP and child’s RESP already maxed out. Mortgage is up for renewal next year, will go from 2.2% fixed to probably quite a bit more… we have no other debt. Should we put it towards a lump sum payment or should we do something else ?

2024.06.09 01:17 GR33N4L1F3 Wanting to buy a home. Is it worth it to drain my retirement?

This may be a ridiculous question to some. I am 38 and want to buy a home (again - former home owner)
I have enough in my retirement to put a 3% down payment.
I don’t have any savings really right now, but rent is atrocious and I’ve co-owned two houses before so I know that the mortgage was a LOT lower than rent for less than stellar homes, which could be ok.
Apartment living will likely continue to increase so I’d rather have real estate. (Even if I don’t use it as a primary residence eventually)
I make under $40k currently (loan officer confirmed that) and I’m trying really hard to get a solid footing - applying for a new job everywhere. I have one prospect and a couple of 1099 side jobs for the moment (which don’t factor into my loan amount), but I urgently need out of my current situation.
I have no other retirement unless it’s SS. (I’m in the US) this was from a job I had for five years in education. I called to find out what my penalties are and it could be 3% taxed, and then I would no longer be able to be paid out FOR LIFE. She said I’m fully vested so that means when I retire I’m going to get a paycheck every month until I die. If I withdraw it, I lose that unless I pay a lot to get it back or get another job and work five more years in education.
To me, it doesn’t sound like the best idea currently, but I’m trying to figure out how to actually own property again.
I went through a divorce and was "bought out" but i truly did not get much. i was screwed financially in my marriage so most of that buyout went to paying off my remaining debts (that were mostly actually his - long story. horrible divorce.)
loan manager said since its been more than 3-4 years since I have owned a home, i once again qualify for first time homebuyer stuff, which i am excited about, but i only qualify for a 100k home and i need $7k to put down, which i do not have. id prefer a 150-250k home where im at as the only things under 100k are either dilapidated or falling apart. or its a condo - which could be ok?
Current job doesn’t have 401k and I wouldn’t have extra funds to invest into it anyway even if they did (hence heavily looking for a new replacement job)
TDLR: 38 yo. former homeowner. Lost 2 houses in divorce. No savings. I have more than enough in retirement to put down 3% on a home for my pre-approved loan. Is it worth it to pull with 3% taxes taken out and no “for life” retirement check to have a home in lieu of sky high apartment rent? I make <40k/year. If I take out retirement, all I have is SS. Current job doesn’t have 401k. Otherwise I need to save and currently don’t have spare money to grab from anywhere - YET
I realize how stupid this may sound, but I want to know if it really is or not - in this economy.
Thanks for the downvotes guys. /s
It was just a question. If you don’t agree with it, that’s fine but why downvote it? Why not tell me why it’s a bad idea instead?

2024.06.09 00:43 Cantsleepruminating I failed to do any of the requirements of running a business

I really hope someone can point me in the right direction, I’m totally lost and over my head. In 2007-2016 I was an independent contractor and struggled getting my taxes done every year. I found a capable accounting firm to handle my inexperience with bookkeeping and they recommended I form an s-corp for 2017. I made one quarterly payment and…just stopped. I don’t remember why, I think my spouse was unhappy with the accountant, but we just kept working and figured we’d find someone else.
We did that until 2020. I have bank statements and receipts and no idea how to file 2017-2020. I also have a 1099-c for 2016, and an organized list that leads me to believe I might be able to complete 2016 on my own. I’m filing ch. 13 very soon (lawyer has deposit and paperwork is being processed), but I cannot find anyone that can help with these tax returns. The bankruptcy is mostly for these tax years owed and they absolutely must be filed this month. My lawyer gave me a referral, but I no longer make enough money or have a business for the firm to take me on.
The s-corp has no assets, 14k unsecured debt, and paid me and my spouse a lease for equipment I owned and we took a weekly draw. Of course this means I also didn’t file personal returns either.
What am I looking for? Can I just use freetax? I don’t know what I don’t know and I just need to do well enough to please the irs. Every time I think I can do this, I discover another question the stops me. I know I’m asking for a lot in a short time. The stress is killing me and the shame is crushing. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

2024.06.09 00:20 StomachEmotional6902 30F in 13k debt with IRS

Need a peace of mind. I made a huge mistake as being misclassified as 1099 in my mid 20s as a dog groomer. In the state of California it’s illegal to be classified through grooming salon and I’m going to submit an SS88 form but until then I need to pay my debt. I feel so stupid and stuck. The only blessing I have is living with my mom and not paying rent so I can aggressively pay this off sooner than later and pay 400-600 a month. Advice please?!

2024.06.08 23:03 No_Persimmons Need help making changes

(Florida, US)
I feel like my husband and I have made a mistake by going with a debt settlement company (we just enrolled in it last week).
The more I read about these programs, the more I feel like we should get out. We have an appointment with nfcc on Tuesday to see what the best options might be.
Should I wait until talking to nfcc to try to start cancelling our debt settlement program?
Backstory: My husband lost his job- he has had medical issues since he got COVID in 2020, and his job was unable to accommodate him with a position that continued to fit his medical needs(he was making 60k a year). He was in school, but the health problems he now has have made his career path not attainable. He was given a grant by our county to return to school for a career path change.
I make 48k (I'm a teacher 🙃), but I have multiple chronic conditions that keep flaring- which results in medical debt. Ive been trying to apply for side hustles and second jobs but I'm not getting bites.-- plus, I have to be careful; if I work and stress too much, I'll end up in the hospital again.)
Without my husband's income, we are drowning.
We have: 120k in combined student loans. 65k in unsecured debt 8k medical debt Mortgage (Originally 368k at 2,800 per month; insurance and such included. 3.99% interest) Car Loan (16k at 250 per month)
My in-laws and my brother in law live with us, and they help pay towards the mortgage.

“A cult who killed anyone who opposed their beliefs and tried to take over countries industries. They realized early on if you control resources in the world conserving them to their own benefit they could control it. What they couldn’t control is people, they can’t change human nature. Its the most natural feeling wanting to be free these people killed anyone they couldn’t control even kids.”
“Why did they do it?”
“I don’t know. Had they found out the information I knew they would’ve burned me alive. That’s the kind of people they are, I never thought people who had the position to control the world keeping our citizens safe chose money and power over the need to better things. Enough money to put every person out of poverty and feed them indefinitely and forgoing that option to only further their interests. They sought to create a new world order of some kind.”
“What the hell is that?”
“Its the founding nations Amiura, Eluland, Israel, Austra, and Chena along with their royal bloodlines the Crown Council of Thirteen. They were the richest and most powerful families. Then below them you have the Committee of three hundred the most powerful sub families in the known world. These groups created a round table the Trilateral Commissions, the Royal International Affairs, Club of Rome, Council Foreign Relations, United Nations, and the Bilgerburg group, the most crucial sits at the top the Think Tanks. Below that they control the World’s Resource Control: Every brand you see plastered on the side of a billboard or a passing truck is a product of their industry that they own. These stand above the government: secret service- military- police- courts- prisons. To them we’re debt slaves forced to conform into an endless cycle of birth school labour taxes debts retirement cycle—To the elite we’re nothing more than sheep. The one who stands above it all is an all seeing eye someone that spreads an agenda to the tables.”
“That’s incredible people who have that insane amount of power and money. I’d like to live like that.”
“Didn’t you hear what I said? It isn’t about the money and the power, its about what we choose to do with it. Curious if anyone here has worked with their creditors and said they’re having a financial hardship to lower monthly payments and interest to make ends meet?
My paycheck isn’t cutting it and I have a child. I’m barely able to cover bills and then have nothing left for groceries/gas/needed extras - clothes for my child.
I’m in good standing with all my cards because I’ve been working like a dog to make it work but I can’t keep doing it. Was considering debt settlement but seems like a lot of people are 50/50 on this and I ended up cancelling my agreement within the three day waiting period to give myself time to figure it all out.
Looking into to connecting with creditors myself and trying to negotiate down.
Looking for help with this! I just want to get myself in a better place and stop having to use credit cards to get by. I feel like I can do this but am trying to start at the right place.

2024.06.08 20:16 BeginnerInvestor Does ETrade’s 1099 form break out the VUSXX’s Fed debt obligations clearly?

I’m planning to buy some VUSXX and wondering if E*trade is good about breaking down the US govt debt obligations for VUSXX? This is important as I believe it helps at the time of failing taxes to grab some exemption from the state tax.
I just don’t want to end up in a pickle later that oh E*trade does a poor job of this, you should have bought at so and so platform instead.
Will anyone of you happen to know?
