The weasel story.May 28th 2024, 19:02, by 3drcomics
So ill explain this now, was hoping some one had a similar experience that might be able to help shed some light on this. This is my last direct experience with anything paranormal.
So my dad, was a good man, a great man. Never did any harm to anyone, amazing father, and good husband to my mom.
Now, i wont go into to much detail on what happened because i dont want to drag his name through the mud. Rip dad, we still love you and miss you.
But their was an incident in my late teens, that resulted in me calling the cops on my dad, and this wasnt a simple incident or something stupid, and resulted in him joing to jail for a few months, even when we all asked for him to be released, and gave him a criminal record, and when he got arrested, it was less then willingly, very scary incident, guns pulled on him and everything, and he just didnt seem to care.
This was something we never expected from him, and never saw again. My mom, sister, and i would discuss the event in length while he was in jail. And we all came to realize we all saw something in the house, started a few days before it happened.
We all would see what only could be described as a weasel, never directly, always out of the corner of ours eyes, runing from room to room, or up the stairs, etc.
We never really could explain it, but our best guess is some sort of demon, or something that attached to him somewhere.
Like i said, he never did anything like this again.. but we would still occasionally see this "weasel" and it was only when he was around, we never saw it when he wasnt home, and when i moved out, i never saw it, but when i, or my sister would visit, even after they moved to a new house, we would occasionally see it.
My sister and i havent seen it since he passed, and i live in his house now.
So, thats the weasel story, and my last paranormal story.

2024.05.29 05:47 FinalFan9 Drake being humbled by Kendrick is a win for the virgin community

Drake has always embodied the “anti-Virg”. He gets any girl he wants, he’s proud of his sexual escapades and is seemingly anti-love. And Kendrick exposed him and basically sent a message to the rest of the world that flaunting your sexual history is a weird practice. It’s weird to be proud of having sex with hella chicks. By extension, Kendrick gave a voice to us virgins who are struggling with identity and are very self conscious. This whole beef genuinely made me feel like it’s ok to be a virgin because the “anti-Virg” was shamed for once. I know this reads as a bit cringe, but I think this is the best thing to happen in mainstream media when it comes to how us as virgins are portrayed.

🔗Killer Instinct Lumix Speedring Crossbow Scope: Improved Targeting for Hunting

https://preview.redd.it/pejxzkurea3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39d69d95ea8bc434d5a7c66d99ba114b2ae59a45
Using the Killer Instinct MSCKI-1020 Lumix Speedring 1.5 to 5 x 32 IR-E Crossbow Scope has been quite an experience. The scope has made hunting much more enjoyable for me, thanks to its amazing abilities to lock onto and track moving targets from vast distances.
One of the features that really stood out is the durability of the metal case. This thing has a real tank-like feel to it, resisting impacts and harsh weather as if it was made for it. The spring-loaded covers on the lenses also proved to be quite reliable, keeping the lenses safe and scratchless until I was ready to hunt.
The built-in Speed Ring is another aspect of the scope that has impressed me. Making adjustments for my crossbow's speed has been a breeze, and the illuminated reticle is a big help when it comes to sighting in low-light conditions. I particularly appreciate the contrast the red/blue illumination provides.
However, there was one downside that I found a little disturbing. The scope came in a condition that made it apparent that someone had used it before. I was not happy with this fact, especially considering I had paid for a brand new product.
Overall, the MSCKI-1020 Lumix Speedring 1.5 to 5 x 32 IR-E Crossbow Scope is a product that I would recommend, even with its minor fault. It certainly helped me become a better hunter, and it would do the same for anyone looking to enhance their hunting experience.

🔗Killer Instinct Lumix 4x32 Black Ir-E Crossbow Scope with LED Illumination

I recently had the opportunity to try out the Killer Instinct Lumix 4x32 Ir-E Crossbow Scope. This black 1021 model was a great addition to my hunting gear, providing exceptional clarity thanks to its multicoated optics and 1-inch mono tube construction. The fast focus eyepiece is a game-changer, allowing me to quickly adjust my sight even when on the move.
One feature that stood out was the illuminated cross-hair reticle, which came in both blue and red. It was perfect for low-light situations, making it easier for me to spot my target. I appreciated the adjustment click value of 0.5 inches at 100 yards, as it gave me accurate and consistent shot adjustments.
However, there were a few downsides to this otherwise great scope. The exit pupil was smaller than I would have liked, making it a bit more challenging to see the cross-hair reticle at times. Additionally, the scope's weight was lighter than expected, which might not have been ideal for everyone.
Overall, I'm happy with my experience using the Killer Instinct Lumix 4x32 Ir-E Crossbow Scope. It's a quality product with some small drawbacks, but its pros certainly outweigh the cons. If you're in the market for a reliable crossbow scope, this one is definitely worth considering.

In my pursuit of a new spotting scope that could enhance my wildlife viewing and target shooting experiences, I stumbled upon the SVBONY SV28 Spotting Scopes. From the moment I opened the package, I was impressed by its sleek exterior and sturdy construction.
One feature that stood out to me was its range of magnification capabilities - the SV28 allowed me to adjust the magnification according to my target distance, providing crystal clear image quality. The lens was exceptionally sharp, making it perfect for both target shooting and observing nature. Another aspect I appreciated was the ease of focus adjustment, ensuring that every detail was visible no matter the distance.
However, I have to say that the tripod that came with the unit seemed a bit lackluster compared to my usual tripod. I ended up using my own sturdier tripod, but it was still nice to have the option included in the package. Additionally, while the phone adapter was a nice addition, I felt it could have been more user-friendly.
Overall, the SVBONY SV28 Spotting Scopes exceeded my expectations, offering outstanding clarity and exceptional value for its price. Though there were a few minor quibbles, I would definitely recommend it to others in search of a reliable, affordable spotting scope for their outdoor adventures.

In the world of optics, the Athlon Optics Ares G2 UHD 20-60x85 Straight Spotting Scope has made a name for itself. It's not just for the birders spotting variances in plumage from far away or for the precision shooters who aim for targets at 1,000 yards, the scope's extra-low dispersion glass provides vivid clarity and resolution in a full-size spotting scope.
Athlon has cleverly designed it to be lightweight although strong, making it comfortable to carry and use for long periods. The aluminum alloy chassis adds to its strength without making it too heavy. With its twist-up eye-cup, it allows you to set the eyecup to the perfect eye relief for your eyes, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience.
Its ESP Dielectric Coating gives you an advantage in viewing with an image that has little or no chromatic fringe for the clearest and sharpest image. The UHD Glass in the lens helps in converging refracting colors into one focus point, producing greater contrast, sharpness, and color definition.
Reflecting over 99% of the light to your eyes, the scope brings you a clear, bright image and accurate color reproduction, thanks to the BaK4 Prisms coupled with advanced fully multi-coated lenses. It produces perfect brightness and color across the entire light spectrum, making viewing under different lighting conditions a breeze.
And when it comes to durability, the scope doesn't disappoint. It comes with an extra protective layer coating that keeps the exterior of the lens free from dirt and scratches. It's also Argon Purged and Waterproof, ensuring weatherproof performance even in harsh conditions. Purging allows for better waterproofing/fogging, making sure your scope doesn't fog up when you switch environments.
Overall, it's a joy to use this spotting scope. It's not just about viewing in high detail but also the ease it offers in using it. You won't be disappointed with its performance and features.

With its fully multi-coated lenses, the scope has breathed life into the game, allowing me to see the smallest details on my targets. It has a solid build with a waterproof and fog-proof body, perfect for the unpredictable weather conditions of nature.
One of the first things that caught my attention was its adjustable rotating ring, which allowed me to position the scope in the most comfortable angle for observation. This gave me a sense of control and comfort while I was out in the wild.
However, one aspect that could have been improved was the tripod, which felt a bit flimsy. But thankfully, I was able to replace it with a more robust one as per my preference.
Despite its minor drawbacks, the Athlon Talos Spotting Scope has been a reliable companion on my hunting expeditions. It has provided me with clear, bright images, allowing me to make accurate shots and successfully bag my targets. It's the perfect tool for the avid hunter who's looking for a good-quality scope without breaking the bank.

As someone who's enjoyed using the Barska 8x22 Waterproof Blueline Golf Scope, I can say it has been a handy tool on the golf course. With its crystal clear perspective, I've appreciated the ease of gauging distance between the ball and the pin. However, I must note that accuracy can be a bit challenging if the flagstaff is partially obstructed, often requiring some strategic alignment and calculation.
The rubberised coating and waterproof design have proven to be reliable even in unfavorable weather conditions. I've received compliments from fellow golf enthusiasts for the neat leatherette pouch that accompanies it. It's been a compact yet practical companion on the course, slipping easily into my golf bag.

One of the standout features of this telescope is its fully multi-coated optics, which made for some truly stunning views of the night sky. The 102mm aperture size allowed me to observe celestial objects like stars, galaxies, and clusters with remarkable clarity and detail.
While setting up the telescope, I found the Vixen-style dovetail plate to be a nice touch, making it easy to attach the scope to a variety of mounts. The included 1.25" visual back also came in handy when swapping out eyepieces for different levels of magnification.
However, there were a couple of drawbacks I encountered during my experience with the Maksutov-Cassegrain 102mm Telescope. Firstly, the narrower field of view when compared to similar Schmidt models took some getting used to. Additionally, the telescope required regular collimation, which could be a minor inconvenience for some users.
In conclusion, the Sky-Watcher Maksutov-Cassegrain 102mm Telescope is an excellent choice for those looking to explore the night sky in detail. Its portable design and exceptional optical quality make it an ideal grab-and-go option for stargazers of all skill levels. Though the narrower field of view and occasional collimation may be minor drawbacks, the overall experience was undeniably rewarding.

Buyer's Guide

The 22 Scope is a popular choice for shooters, hunters, and target enthusiasts due to its accuracy, reliability, and versatility. Before making a purchase, it's essential to consider various factors, such as caliber, barrel length, and cost. This buyer's guide will help you make an informed decision and get the most out of your 22 Scope.

Caliber

https://preview.redd.it/n7ccc48yea3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=937243e0940e3e26c4fea42099a615b67042b9c9
The most common caliber for 22 Scope is the. 22 Long Rifle (LR). However, there are other options like the. 22 Magnum (Maj) and. 22 WMR (Winchester Rimfire). When choosing a caliber, consider factors such as recoil, velocity, and bullet type. The. 22 LR has the least recoil and is suitable for beginners or those who prefer a more gentle firing experience. The. 22 Magnum offers greater velocity and energy, making it ideal for hunting or long-range shooting.

Barrel Length

The 22 Scope barrel length can range from 16 inches to 26 inches. The shorter barrels offer more maneuverability, especially in tight spaces or for use in a defensive setting. Longer barrels provide increased accuracy and velocity. For hunting or target shooting, a 20-22 inches barrel is generally recommended, providing a good balance between accuracy, velocity, and maneuverability.

Action

The action of a 22 Scope can be bolt-action, semi-automatic, or pump-action. Bolt-action rifles offer a reliable, easy-to-use mechanism and are suitable for hunting or target shooting. Semi-automatic rifles provide faster follow-up shots, making them a popular choice for competitive shooting or hunting where a rapid shot sequence is desired. Pump-action rifles are also known for their reliability and quick follow-up shots, often preferred for self-defense purposes.

Other Features to Consider

  • Stock material and design
  • Sight options (such as iron sights, open sights, or scopes)
  • Trigger pull weight
  • Safety features
  • Finish and overall build quality

Maintenance and Storage

Regularly maintaining and storing your 22 Scope can extend its lifespan and ensure reliable performance. After each shooting session, clean the rifle thoroughly, checking for any damage or wear. Store the rifle in a secure, dry place away from extreme temperature or humidity fluctuations. Regular cleaning and proper storage help maintain accuracy and prevent corrosion.
The 22 Scope is a versatile and reliable choice for various shooting activities. By considering factors such as caliber, barrel length, and action, you can select the best 22 Scope for your specific needs. Always prioritize safety and accuracy, and with proper maintenance, your 22 Scope will provide reliable and enjoyable shooting experiences for years to come.

What is the best 22 scope for hunting?

What is the best 22 scope for target shooting?

When it comes to target shooting, a fixed-power 22 scope with a higher magnification range (such as 4X or 6X) can be a great choice. • Nikon
  • Vortex Optics
  • Bushnell

2024.05.29 05:46 En_Sabah_Nur If any of you are comic book fans, I highly recommend the adaptations!

A lot of us are left wanting more after finishing the series so I just wanted to post this for people craving additional content
If you're into comics, IDW did an eight issue retell(?)of S11 I guess you could call it, that I really enjoyed. You can find the run here
There's also the original run(41 issues!), the six issue 2008 run, and the 17 issue 2016 run. Also shout out to the 30 days of night crossover which I thought was super fun. There's also 2 issue crossovers with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers and The Crow!
One reminder in the comics community; if you read it and like it, buy it! I like to donate trade paperbacks to my local library to spread the X-files love.
PS that site does have pop-ups, which is solved by using Brave (or the anti-ad package of your choice)
PPS mods if this violates reddits Tos, my apologies and please delete.

2024.05.29 05:46 Upbeat-Perspective18 Dating advice

I 22F don’t have much experience with dating at all but I’ve been talking to a guy 27M from hinge for a while. I mean like 3 months over text. Just recently we were flirting like you need to take me on a date and he said I want to! And then he never actually asked me out. I feel a little insecure about my mild cerebral palsy so I wasn’t tryna rush into a date and I’m usually slower moving. But I think 3 months is pushing it even for me. I mean for him to say I want to take you on a date, we’ll do something soon but not actually ask is a little weird. I really like this guy and I want to meet up with him but I’m more traditional and will wait for him to ask me out on a date. But is he really interested if it’s been 3 months of texting? Is this something I should bring up to him before “blocking him” or ending our chats? We flirt a lot at night and text a good amount during the day but never calls, FaceTime or any idea that he’s gonna ask me on a date… I’m not finding any other men I’m interested in so he’s not “wasting my time” but is it reasonable to think that if he’s taking this long to ask me on a date, how long would it take him to propose🤣. He’s seems like a great guy and is very understanding and albeit sexy as hell to me but I want things to progress. I don’t want to sound like I’m begging him to ask me on a date but if he’s never going to work up the courage why are we texting. Thanks :)

2024.05.29 05:46 Thelittlehamstar (spoilers) I just finished ashlands <3

I want to start by saying that i enjoyed here, i enjoyed all the little things to get here. I've been playing since the boss was yagluth. I have 351 hrs (i know it's not much) but just in case ppl think i speed trough this and then complained ahha.
Now first with the good things:>! I LOVED the entire aesthetic, the music, the new items , the new food and materials that ashland brought, i loved the introduction to ashlands that was literally very fucking scary ,the new customization of weapons with elements, not only for how variated it makes the gameplay but how cool it looks as exhibition pieces. THE NEW MONSTERS WERE AMAZINGLY COOL, from their mechanics to their designs, they were so scary and unsettling, the story was so chilling and had me hyped to search for the next rune (also pls make this spanw maybe close to strategic points i had to lose myself in a few islands to find them all) . I LOVE how now the differnet stars in monsters look very different than i remember, idk if the colors were brightened or they shine more but i was way easier to identify troublesome mobs this time. Loved the addition of the grapes as a new food source to plant at home, not only because it looked amazing but because it was a cool thing to have a passive farming part of your home. !< i suppose i must continue with the downsides, though it's not much really i still enjoyed myself through and through. First of all i feel the cultists are still somehow randomly placed there, i wish perhaps the caves gave more or straight up they had the eggs so i had more incentive to go raid them. Some items like the staff of fracturing and the dundr were interesting but not really that useful in the end with a few exceptions ( love exploding morgens) and you could say that yeah that's the point you have to have all the options but it feels a bit disappointing when you start cooking up numbers. I think the Dundr is the weapon i loved the most but i wish i had something extra, perhaps an armor to go with that hexmagic route that allows you to reload faster or reload while running so you can get close, shot and run and then use the staff of protection and so. I would happily give away the usage of all of the other staffs for such a combination and the either regen. In the end my partner who played with a meele warrior did way more than me with magic and that did not feel such a way during mistland and i don't know if it was my fault or what, but it felt more balanced on mistlands than ashland for some reason. The flametal ores... God that was so annoying to farm and then they give you all of it mostly in castles so it feels a bit unnecessary? I would much more prefer to siege the fortress for the material than having to fend off charred assholes throwing rocks at me that make me fall to the lava. Not to mention the spawn of things was a bit insane, sometimes there was no creatures for several minutes then we turned around and bam 3 morgens 2 green dogs (i forgot their names) of 1 star following us and a bunch of marksman coming from the lava. It was overwhelming at times.
Quality of life => please have tabs for the different recipes/types of recipes or at least organize them from newest to oldest because having to search for it one by one it's quite annoying when you are in a hurry to get back to battle. X_X
And this is mostly cosmetic issues but i feel the red robes are way cooler than the blue of ashlands?, but i do love the black void with the red eyes , maybe there should be an item that the clothing seller than give me as a final quest for her chests that gives me the possibility to transmog so i chose what i am wearing ? but keeps my stats??. That green cape was horrendous too i didn't feel powerful at all QWQ. The jutes, please for the love of god let me make red jute things like the blue ones and vice versa and maybe let me die threads to make more and maybe different colors?, banners get a bit repetitive after a while. But this is a nothing burger honestly i just really had SOOO much fun with the ashwood decorations i usually hate decorating and building in games but this time OH GOD i went crazy and i had so much fun <3 . Also many items are not able to be exhibited like the bloodstones, jade and even metals i feel it would be cute if we could do that since i could make a metal ore and refined metal exhibition to decorate the forge. On that same note please make the item stands a bit tintier like the ones that go into the table because some items like the circlet or knives look so weird with the big slav of wood behind. same with some items just lying flat like the seal or the swamp key , maybe give the option for them to stand up?. And as a last request that again is literally non relevant PLEASE GIVE US FLOWERS or decorative plants, hedges and bushes. i would kill to have such a thing in game. PLEASE LET US PLANT BERRY BUSHES AS WELL ! i dont care if they take forever to spawn berries but please it's being so annoying since day 1. Also i loved the pots, can we please find a way to paint them or add flowers to them???
Anyway it was just a random rant a smy first post here. Istill 100% love and recommend the game 10/10 would start again when the next biome comes home. Amazing job as always team i love this game <3
red + black feathers COOL
please i just want to have collectibles...
Pls valehim let me put the spice rack in here i need it for magic/witch reasons
Also please let me sleep in the same bed as my husband, how are we supposed to honor odin if we dont give him a son lmao.
pls let me paint the pots PLEASE
my attempt to put flowers outside lmao
I wish the Jute was red on the top as well QWQ!

Hey since some folks might not seen these cool covers of Jason songs.
This guy plays a few guitar covers, and has a lot of other Jason stuff on his channel I’ve never seen or heard before. He’s really good: https://youtu.be/RYRyJw30dDs?si=cFriBrzZ-j3oUsZ1
This kid totally kills it playing the drum part for She’s Not Enemy. I love Jason’s drumming anyway, and I’ve always thought this was an especially interesting and musical drum part. This video makes me so happy: https://youtu.be/wGxM_iii364?si=YgWsmCm0BgZVB0GS

2024.05.29 05:46 No_Zebra6287 Anyone watching Jhanak?

I always see people here ranting about yrkkh/anupamaa so I thought I'd rant about another show lol.. I started watching Jhanak about 2 months ago bc I saw some edits of the lead couple and they looked cute together. The show is genuinely so bad though. If you're not watching it, you're not missing out on anything lol. I just like having something trashy to watch at the end of the day, plus now I'm invested in seeing how the love story plays out. If I tried talking about all the things wrong with this show this would turn into an entire essay so I'll just list some general thoughts I've been having while watching. Please chime in with yours!!

2024.05.29 05:46 freeburgs1235 Girl I met last August and went on a couple of dates with said she wanted to be friends back in January. We hang out every week just us two at my place and I think I should make a move. Should I keep things platonic or be open with her?

So, this has been going on for a while now. I met this amazing girl back in August of 2023 in a university club. I didn’t realized I had feelings for her until late October and I ended up asking her out in December once I was able to build up my courage. She enthusiastically agreed to go out and our first date was super fun. We went to the bowling alley where she destroyed me in every arcade game but I got a new pb in bowling that day.
Afterwards we went and ate at a restaurant that was coincidentally both our favorite restaurant. We talked there until the restaurant had to close, I offered to teach her to oil paint, she assumed that I meant right then and there at my place but I said it was getting a little late and we should probably call it a night. She looked a little bummed I won’t like, but I told her we could paint next time.
So we did exactly that, our next date was on our campus, I had baked us some cookies and made us some hot cocoa from scratch. We painted for a long time, hers was a lot better than mine… but we had a great time. Then the time came to end the night and she told me she had a wonderful time and thought I was an amazing guy but said something like “I thought about it over the break, and I don’t think I can date right now, but I would love to still be your friend” I took it as best as I could and told her it was ok and we both headed home.
She sent me a text as soon as I got home saying how she couldn’t get the right words out then in person so she wanted to clarify some things. She said “I’m just not interested in dating anyone right now, period.” This really baffled me at the time and it made me feel like I was the issue.
In the past, I’ve been lead on by someone so they could use me for emotional comfort. This girl and I actually talked about our past relationships on our first date. I learned that she had 2 exes but I wasn’t aware at the time at how recently she had broken up with her ex. But her and I bonded over being manipulated by our past partners and talking about our ideal relationship.
Anyways, I truly do enjoy her as a friend. So I wanted to respect her wishes and I didn’t ask her out again. The most I did was during Valentine’s Day I carved her a little charm to take with her on a long trip for one of her other clubs. She loved it a lot, I planned on just giving it to her and leaving but every time I tried to get up she’d insist we keep talking, so we did for a few more hours until she had to go to a meeting.
My feelings got the better of me and I sent her a long text describing how much I respected her and felt like maybe I was the issue to why things didn’t work out. I really regret sending this, but she was very respectful and replied with her saying that it absolutely wasn’t my fault and it’s something with her that she did not go into detail with.
Fast foward a bit, here we are in summer. We’ve only grown closer and she’s told me more about her exes over time. I never prodded her for this info, it usually just naturally came up in conversation. Turns out she broke up with her ex only a few months before we went out for the first time. This was because he was extremely awkward with her family and really wanted nothing to do with them. He embarrassed her in front of her whole family and we was absolutely way too attached to her.
Now, we have been hanging out together every week. We would normally hang out with other members of our club but now its just her and I. She comes over and brings me ingredients to cook with and I cook for the both of us. Afterwards we relax on the couch and watch some shows together. We get really close, the tension is really thick but I don't want to accidentally read the wrong signals and make a move.
The last time she was over was last Saturday. My dog jumped up between us on the couch as we were watching JoJo. I wrapped my arm around my dog but as I was doing so i nearly wrapped my arm around her too, it felt so natural but I realized what I was doing and I readjusted my arm so it was just around my dog. Later we end up leaning against each other's shoulders, I REALLY wanted to wrap my arm around her or just straight up ask her if it was ok if I held her but I just don't know.
Also, last time she came over, she surprised me with cheesecake that she had baked herself. She made little mini cakes for my entire household. She teased she was making them beforehand but I had no idea they were for me and my family.
There are plenty of other scenarios where the tension between us has been high, but I've already been kinda ranting so I don't want to go into the nitty gritty. I will edit the post if there's need for the smaller things.
Something I have forgotten to mention is that we have a lot of mutual friends in our club, as a matter of fact I am the new President of the club and she is the Vice President. Whenever we hang out with just us two, we don't really tell our other friends about it. Nobody in our close friend group of the club knows we went out before or that we hang out often now. I'm not sure if I should take anything from this, I know she tells her parents and some of her friends about me. I remember going to her house for the first time to help her unload some things along with a few other of the club members and she introduced everyone to her mom and when she got to me she said "You already know this guy" even though I have not met her mother before.
I could just be completely delusional, maybe she's not dropping any hints. If thats the case I am perfectly content with her and I hanging out, the last thing I want is to lose such a great friend I've made. I don't want her to feel pressured into dating again, the real reason as to why she isn't interested in dating frankly isn't my business. I can narrow it down to a few things all of which are pretty understandable. Such as her working 2 jobs while being in like 3 clubs and having to deal with school on top of that. I am just really grateful she's here.
So TL;DR, Girl I went out with a few months ago said she wasn't interested in dating, we hang out a lot more now and I feel like I should make a move to see if that's changed or not but I don't know how to.

2024.05.29 05:46 argentum42 ART's Gatsby: An American Myth - First Preview Thoughts/Analysis

I know there have been a handful of posts about this, but I thought I'd toss in my two cents as well since this is so new. Spoilers and such for the show.
Quick notes on my musical biases/knowledge limitations and such: I haven't seen The Great Gatsby that's currently on Broadway, a lot of my own musical theatre preferences are influenced by Sondheim, I am not the most familiar with new musicals from the past decade or so (not since Fun Home and Hamilton, essentially), and I enjoy Florence and the Machine's music.
Overall, I really enjoyed it-- enough so that I actually booked tickets for a post-opening performance to see what changes are made and what it becomes. I would recommend it for those who enjoy Chekhov-- essentially, those who like to explore specific social themes through characters and are ok with bittersweet-to-kinda-downer shows. Another playwright that comes to mind is Eugene O'Neill, but I don't think the show is that much of a downer. (If I'm being pretentious, I think this is very much a playwright/theatre nerd's musical.)
The show really hones in on the novel's themes of social class (old money vs new money vs working poor), the empty/broken promises of the fabled "American Dream", and the delusions and self-destructive lengths we go to try and capture impossible dreams. There's a reason why this is subtitled "An American Myth"-- it serves as a dual reference for Gatsby in the story (a mysterious man who throws extravagant parties night after night but is never seen), and the myth of the American Dream. The show's willingness to engage with and expand on Fitzgerald's bleak themes may also be why I suspect this is opening in Boston, rather than the Public or some other off-Broadway-to-Broadway incubator in NYC-- the Big City that sells the world on promises that any poor nobody can become a rich somebody with enough personal sacrifice, as long as you're willing to pay the price. (And, accordingly, why I have a feeling that, if/when it does make it to Broadway, it will be critically lauded but may not be a big commercial draw, unfortunately. It might be too critical a mirror for a majority of the local NYC audience and too much of a bummer for tourists wanting a fun time.)
As has been mentioned in the comments of posts on this production, the role of Myrtle has been expanded from the novel. She's less of a random plot device and is now a fleshed out character with her own wants and desires. She mirrors Gatsby in a lot of ways-- she's the "what if" version if he had never met Wolfsheim and become a somebody while in pursuit of capturing what was lost.
The score and lyrics absolutely have Florence Welch's musical DNA all over it. Her moody melancholy style meshes incredibly well with the story and themes from the novel that get highlighted in the musical. I believe this is Welch's first musical, and I suspect that it's also her co-collaborator's (Thomas Bartlett) first musical as well. Their music shows a ton of promise but I think some parts still need tweaking to fit a musical structure. To me, the first act feels like a series of singles sung by the lead characters strung together with some ensemble expository songs. The score could make stronger use of musical motifs and throughlines, and ideally begin weaving it together near the end of the first act. However, things do all beautifully come together as a cohesive whole for Act 2; it just feels a little late at that point, in my opinion.
The cast is incredible. Props to all from ensemble to leads. Solea Pfeiffer as Myrtle and Charlotte Macinnes as Daisy are both riveting. Isaac Powell plays a very humanized Gatsby-- mysterious one moment, but a total dork the moment he has a tea party with Daisy. Ben Levi Ross' Nick is wry and yes, the gay/lesbian subtext from the novel becomes textual for both him and Eleri Ward's Jordan.
Analyzing choreography is not my strong suit, but there are some strong Fosse influences. Myrtle's death scene stands out in my mind with its delicate but impactful staging.
The set is a minimalist, gnarled chrome mass of automobile bits with a set of stairs that pivot out to wooden bookshelves of books. The band is also on stage on the often-used second level. Rachel Chavkin, the director, had a preshow speech and noted that two set pieces weren't ready yet. Honestly likely would not have noticed had she not mentioned it.
Anyway, would love to hear others' thoughts on the show. It's been a while since I've felt like nerding out over a musical.

2024.05.29 05:45 nodeadpoets Want to respec but no perk cards

Hi all! First off, I’m new to the game and absolutely loving it. The veteran players are super helpful and offer me goods whenever we do events together. In sum, the world and community are awesome.
My problem is, I’m level 18 and specced for unarmed but it’s getting kind of stale. I’d love to try commando/explosives or rifleman when I’m able to respec but unfortunately don’t have the perk cards!
So my question is, is it better to just start from scratch? Or should I just respec and build on perk cards I gain from leveling?
Thanks.

2024.05.29 05:45 Difficult_Jelly_6392 It's amazing what you can do if you just simply have the audacity

So, I'm by no means someone I'd consider a good cook. I burn things a lot and accidentally put too much or too little of certain ingredients into dishes more times than I care to admit. However, my neighbor gifted me a mandoline slicer and I was reminded how I always wanted to try ratatouille from the movie when I was a kid (and I do know that the dish isn't actually ratatouille). When I was younger I always thought there was some sort of meat in the dish, so I was surprised when I found out years later there isn't. I texted my boyfriend the idea and decided to go through with it. Tonight, with the help of way more confidence in myself than I should have and a little recklessness I made a version of it that resembles what I intially imagined it would be. For someone who never cooks anything this complex, I think it turned out pretty dang good, and I'm proud of myself for trying something new so I'm sharing it here :)

2024.05.29 05:45 hexgirlfriend11 After troubleshooting blue screens of death, my HP Pavilion no longer recognizes my hard-drive after bios update.

Device: HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop - 16-A0032d
So, the problems started last night when my computer kept shutting off in the middle of the game giving me the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH.

The first blue screen message was "Non-HP battery detected".... after a few consecutive startups and shut downs out of no where the new error message was just the basic "your device ran into a problem and needs to restart," the general BSOD.

So I trouble shoot this first issue, "Non-hp battery detected" online, one solution is to update BIOS, which I went ahead and did through the support assistant I believe. I restart my computer after this bios update. THEN I started getting the Boot Device Not Found (3f0) error, no longer being able to get into windows AT ALL.

I did EVERYTHING recommended for this, diagnosed everything in the UEFI and everything passed..... followed THIS HP GUIDE from top to bottom, all the way up to system recovery. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06101701
(if the link doesnt work, its just the customer advisory page for: HP Consumer Desktop PCs - Boot Device Not Found (3F0) or Automatic Repair Errors)
So, this final step is where I'm stuck. When I finally had no choice but to attempt to recover through the windows cloud recovery software that I uploaded onto 32gb usb, DOING EVERYTHING IM SUPPOSE TO, clicking esc, f9, boot with the usb, IM STUCK AT THE HP LOADING SCREEN, it doesn't go past the hp loading screen, in fact the little loading spinner spins for a few times then FREEZES lol. I've retried the process several times, even did "windows recovery" instead of trying to boot the system through a flash drive. I have NO IDEA what is going on

How to clean new beanie buddy? (Scorch!!!❤️)
First off I’m so excited I found him I have the beanie baby version and now I have them both! I’ve been looking for him for a while now while thrifting. Yay!
I’m paranoid about bed bugs though. Has anyone washed him before? Can I put it in a bag with isopropyl alcohol soaked cotton balls? Any other tips appreciated!
(Other context, the goodwill was in a nice area and it looked like someone donated a bunch of beanies. He’s in very good condition and looks clean, my guess is he was just less loved at his previous home.)

2024.05.29 05:45 somebody808 Should Furiosas opening be a bad sign for the upcoming sequel trilogy Jedi Academy movie

Came back after months to say that I don't know why anyone is surprised at this result. I was not the biggest fan of Fury Road but watched the trailer for this which I haven't been doing as much lately for anything. It didn't even take needing to see it to predict that audiences might be tired of this type of storyline. Netflix already had Damsel earlier this year. I just had a feeling that no matter how good this ended up being that audiences might roll their eyes at it because of years filled with these type of stories and people going not another one.
Love Anya Taylor Joy but Furiosa seems like something that just came out too late. Mad Max is a pretty niche IP as is and there are just too many options to see films like this now everywhere including streaming. Think these type of protagonists will be fine in horror where they have always worked but outside of it, this just looked too similar to other things that are available to watch elsewhere once you remove Mad Max from it.
Hollywood lost me last year. I used to look forward to going to the theaters every summer but not this year. Too many forgettable releases and bad theater experiences have made me only want to go for something I'm really interested in like Deadpool & Wolverine or Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice. I predicted this summer could look bad in the fall of last year and it's happening now.
Now, with the upcoming Jedi Academy Rey film that is about to start filming or already is, why does Hollywood think that is going to be any different? It's coming too late. TFA was the same time as Fury Road. Star Wars is not in the same place now as when TFA released. Yet it seems like Disney wants to throw this huge budget at it when that trilogy has a divisive opinion among audiences and fans to say the least.
Could Disney or Lucasfilm look at the reaction to Furiosa and realize that things might be changing and this idea is not the best one going forward?
I feel bad for Furiosa. Out of films that are like this, it feels like one of the best ones but it's in a sea of many that were not well received and look the same on the posters as something like Damsel or Rebel Moon.
This is not intended to start a woke vs non woke argument. It's just the truth of what I saw from someone who used to go to all of these. I thought it looked fine but also thought Hollywood needs to do something new.
