2024.04.14 20:16 Tasiam Especulation: The Horned Axe and Seven Coils were a dyad.

Seven-Coils and The Crime of the Sky
Coil and Chasm committed to Skolekosophy tell us Echidna was a Name of Gods-who-were-Stone. The book "Hissing Key" mentions her as one of the conspirators against Seven Coils.
The book "Medusa's Lament" is about the slaying of Seven-Coils, and the fact that Medusa is a snake-like creature in real life, as are Seven-Coils, suggests a link between her and It.
Honestly, none of these are strong arguments, but Seven-Coils is the only God-from-Stone who is known to had any association with the Ligeian Club.
And lastly, there is an incident in Book of Hours called "The Affair of the Rising While":
Across the inner sea, across the desert sands, someone styling herself the Oracle of the Rising While has set up a tent-town where she preaches 'the truth of nearly now' to her followers. This would be of no obvious interest to the students of the invisible arts... except that although she has pitched her tents in the shadow of the Temple of Seven Coils, nothing appears to have eaten anyone.
Eat what? It's never mentioned by visitors. But another tangential reference to The Crime?
There is something here. But what's the exact relationship between the Seven-Coils and the Crime? And could it be possible It committed it?
On a bed of dunes beneath a red low sun a monster wrestles itself while attendants crowd around its flanks. It is flabby and huge, the colour of dirty sulphur. Fanged tentacle-necks wrestle like kittens. It tears cheerfully at its own flesh, and the blood that flows is golden. It flops over in a cataclysm of wattled flesh, crushing a knot of attendants, and the others scream and cheer.
-The Colours Seven-Coiled
Could it be tearing its own flesh due to the hunger caused by being an Alukite? The book "The Sevenfold Slaying of the Seven-Coiled" states It was a dangerous beast:
There are twelve verses. In the first, an ascendant Hour identified as the Scarred One enumerates his justifications for destroying the Seven-Coiled: its appetites, its growth, its enmity to humanity.
There are more questions than answers, honestly. But I assumingitt committed the Crime I would like to make a connection that as far as I know nobody came out with.
Going back to "Medusa's Lament", Seven Coils is called "the Father of the Mother", the Mother obviously being Mother-of-Ants.
The serpent guardians in Cultist Simulator have this description:
The Mother of Ants was born among serpents. She has so very many younger sisters. It can be defeated in battle; or it will respond to the Mother's power.
So the Mother rose from the Father's death. But where did the serpents come from? It is my belief that they came from the corpse of Seven-Coils, once It was dead they were freed. And this is a parallel to the myth of Kronos and Zeus.
For those who need a recap: Kronos was prophesied to be killed by his children, so he ate Demeter, Hestia, Hera, Hades and Poseidon. But Zeus was saved by replacing him with a stone. Eventually, Zeus kills Kronos thus freeing his brothers and sisters.
Serpents are Seven-Coils children, and that's why they are The Mother's sisters.
The Axe
Gregory evidently succeeds in opening a way to something he calls the 'Moon-Hall', but here his account becomes erratic. He insists that in the Moon-Hall the Horned-Axe is still an Edge-power; he hopes for an 'eternal rival', but cannot find the one he needs. The narrative is increasingly interspersed with chess notations, and ends abruptly.
The Horned Axe the Guardian of all thresholds (Liminal Evocation), one of the powers that opposes the Crowned Growth ("Around 1890, in the Third History, the Crowned Growth could be perceived through the White Door" article in Weather Factory Website). It makes sense for her to keep an Alukite Hour away from the Mansus, but how do we know that was what she was doing?
Sadly, to my knowledge, there is only one piece of text that suggests it, "The Vinzant Inscriptions":
The remainder of the text consists of gloating remarks by the Grail-priestesses of the Shaping that will come, interpolated with warnings and laments from those of the Sisterhood who serve the Ring-Yew and especially the Horned Axe.
Questions
Here are questions I can see coming:
Why, if the Axe had a dyad with Seven-Coils, does she lament its loss, like the rest of the Gods-of-Stone?
Dyads are not based on hate, they are based on corrivality. An example is Ms Azita Bukhara who has a dyad with her twin brother Mehrad. Her dialogue does not suggest she hates him quite the opposite; in fact, "My dearest enemy - Mehrad - has invited me to a challenge in Budapest..." (The Affair of the Absent Friend).
What is the origin of The Crime of the Sky?
No idea, we don't even know if it is a law from Stone like keys not being able to be owned. Recap: The Keys cannot be owned or held except by the Ligeans who are outside of the Law, when Gods-of-Stone are gone for good, the Law will either be gone or renewed, (Resurgences and Emergences).
Does an Hour uphold the Crime? If so, which one?
Why can't the Axe find a new enemy for a corrivality?
In my opinion, the obvious answer will be for Her to start a rivalry with The Twins, Hour of Division versus the Hours of Union. But I don't think she can because she cooperates with the Sister-and-Witch as members of the Chancel.
Conclusion
To recap: Seven-Coils committed the Crime of the Sky and ate its serpent children, The Horned Axe protector of the Mansus kicked it out of there and prevented it from coming back, thus starting a dyad. When the Colonel killed the Seven-Coils, He freed its children but he also ended the dyad.
Honestly, this is not a strong theory, and I feel it could be refuted easily. If you have info for or against it, please share it. But there is something.

2024.04.01 23:47 birdmedicine Honest opinion on Exocolonist after first playthrough

After seeing this sub rant and rave about I Was a Teenage Exocolonist, I decided to buy the game for my Switch and just finished my first playthrough last evening.
A little saddened to share that while there's a lot to love about this game, I personally found myself a bit disappointed by it (perhaps I got my hopes up due to reading almost nothing but positivity about this game here). I wanted to share my genuine feelings here -- not to trash the game whatsoever, but simply to provide some contrasting opinions so potential buyers can know what they're in for (spoiler-free of course!)
To reiterate, the intention here is not to trash talk this beautiful game, but to provide more context for players who are already well-versed with some other 'cozy' deck-building games. Please note this is solely my opinion and I did minimal research into the game before buying it outside of this sub's reviews, so please don't come for me in the comments!
  1. I found it challenging to enjoy Teenage Exocolonist (TE) as thoroughly as others seem to have as a diehard fan of both Inscryption and The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood (CW). I haven't seen too much dialogue about TE in comparison to those games here, and I think it's important to note that if you've started with both Inscryption + CW, that TE may also feel similarly underwhelming. While I don't categorize Inscryption as a cozy game, that was my first deck-building game I every played and I never thought I'd find another that could live up to it until I found CW.
  2. While I liked some aspects of the deck-building mechanic in TE, I found Inscryption's and Cosmic's mechanics more innovative and satisfying. One of my biggest complaints about TE is that once I got oriented to the card-game, I was able to play through the card challenges relatively quickly, which made the text blobs feel like a big pace-killer for me. I felt like I was gaining momentum with the card challenges and the transition to reading what felt to me like a lot of text made the gameplay feel jarring and imbalanced.
  3. I have never been a fan of Visual Novels, and I think this game is much more of a VN than a deck-building game. While the deck-building is a major mechanic, it felt much more like a choose-your-own-adventure book with a poker-adjacent card game scattered inbetween events. If you are not into reading a lot of text in games, you may struggle to stay focused with this one like I did.
  4. While I enjoyed the futuristic, progressive, sci-fi storyline of TE, it was challenging for me to not constantly make comparisons to CW's script and storyline. There is some overlap, but I was hoping to be moved to tears in the same way that CW moved me. I read multiple comments and posts about TE on this sub from folks who were deeply moved by the story. In my experience, I found some of the "heavier" or shocking events to not land in the same way CW's storyline landed for me. I think some of this has to do with my struggle to stay engaged with the storyline and not being prepared to read as much as I had to in this game. (Additionally, I felt the static art style made the action-packed parts of the story a little more challenging for me to stay engaged with, versus Inscryption's and CW's movement-based animations).
I think TE has a gorgeous art style, a pretty strong narrative storyline, and some unique and enjoyable gameplay elements. However, I definitely recommend playing the demo first to see if this game lands with you before buying. I take accountability for not doing as much thorough research as maybe I should have, but I wanted to go in as blind as possible due to the rave reviews here.
Excited to see this progressive and inclusive story sitting alongside CW and becoming more mainstream in the cozy gaming world! I think VN people will really enjoy this and eager to engage in conversation with folks who had similar and different experiences playing as me. I would love for diehards to convince me to get into a second playthrough and to share the main reasons why I should (please hide spoiler text!). I started a new playthrough and at first glance it felt like I was just starting over again with no perks from my previous one.
Thanks for reading :)

2024.03.06 22:10 Paladium9999 An essay on the why the Rapture and the Man of Sin

Our focus should always be on the Lord Jesus Christ, Iesous Christos ( Greek ), Yeshua Hamashiach (Hebrew ). Names are important. This essay is not meant to kindle a fascination or life time hunt for the Antichrist. Merely that we should be watchers and if we find wisdom, Tellers!
So here we go. Let’s establish some baselines. Daniel the prophet wrote "But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge." Given to him by the Angel Gabriel. This is an end times message, yes transport has increased our ability to travel faster from place to place, yes, our knowledge of the world in all professions has advanced, almost all have increased exponentially in the last 100 years or so.
But what about our knowledge of the Bible? Yes , that too has increased. Many are the writers, pastors ,ministers and elders that have expounded their views of particular verses of scripture, opening their meaning, from this we can put the puzzle pieces together from many sources to get the big picture. But never have I read, seen, or heard anyone who has put together the puzzle pieces of the most enigmatic number (in my opinion ) in scripture. Let’s read it 1st and break it down. I have an advantage in that my heritage is Greek and I can read the original ancient Greek. This is important as one word can change the entire context of a verse. I am also an Engineer and know how technology fits in this puzzle.
Here is an example, the English word "love" translates at least 6 ways in the Greek. When the writers of the King James Version converted the Greek Love to English, they weren’t too accurate in their application in context of the verse they were converting. Eros or sexual passion. One kind of love was Eros, named after the Greek god of fertility, and it represented the idea of sexual passion and desire. ...( typically between Husband and Wife) Philia, or deep friendship. ...( typically between friends ) Ludus, or playful love. ... ( typically between parents and their children ) Agape, or love for everyone. ...( typically for the Lord God and Jesus Christ ) Pragma, or longstanding love. ...( typically for your parents ) Philautia, or love of the self.
(Jesus said this himself, love others as you love yourself ) Furthermore, the essence of what is being said is important in its tone, for example: If my friend played a prank on me, I’d likely say "you bastard", in a friendly playful sense of "Philia", however if someone greatly wronged me, that tone can come out with a vehemence you would not expect of yourself. You have to re-read the Bible with passion, when Paul was angry he spoke angry, when Paul was in prison and destitute he spoke in a forlorn manner, when he was grieved he spoke in a sad tone etc. Passion can and is a key sometimes.
So let’s read it in the King James Version Revelation 13:18King James Version (KJV) 18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. So let’s break it down and establish some rules. Trust me we will get there. 1) We interpret the correct meaning of this verse from the original Greek text 2) read it with passion, in this case wisdom from our Lord and Savior and Teacher 3) Look at the law of 1st mention. When the Lord God does something in the Bible and its mentioned 1st, the pattern is repeated in the Bible, the Bible gives us clues. 4) The verse itself gives us a clue "He who has wisdom".
Well who is that? No one has ever answered this satisfactorily. Let’s start with 4, he who has wisdom ( Greek - Sophia , Sophos -truth the art of using ,from Strong’s concordance)). This is for non-Greeks. To me it’s in the feminine. SO who is it that has Wisdom? Let’s make some groupings and statements The Lord God, The Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost, The Angels in Heaven, Lucifer and all his fallen Angels and spiritual minions ( yes they all have wisdom, far more than any human being and they already know the answer). So it can’t be talking about them.
The point being that the Bible was written for us, so the Lord Jesus is asking us " he who hath wisdom". Therefore this question is for us, Man, people, Christians, you and I. Revelation is the revealing of Jesus Christ to us, so here he is revealing a secret / puzzle. And it’s up to us to figure it out with prayer and a blessing. Oh btw, man is what The Lord God named us , Mr. and Mrs. Man, Adam named his wife Eve. I told my wife that man is the human races last name, essentially, Adam Man and Eve Man. So, do we all have wisdom? We do, in varying degrees. He in Greek means to me whosoever or any. Has wisdom? This indicates that there are some who don’t have wisdom. Who would that be?
Easy, the Bible is the source of wisdom, all who read it gain its invaluable wisdom. So, Christians only have God given wisdom, secularists (they, them) only have their world view wisdom, then it really depends what you do with it. HATH. means has already, this means that Christians who already have wisdom. Now who would that be? Admittedly this is hard one, but we can rule out some demi groups of Christians. How does one judge who has wisdom and who doesn't.
Wisdom is the ability to discern and judge which aspects of knowledge are true, right, lasting, and applicable to your life. Anyone who hath the Holy Ghost with them, guiding them, inside them and actually listening to the Holy Ghost already has wisdom. The Holy Ghost is HE who has wisdom and he imparts it to those looking for answers. Consider that the Holy Ghost is the restrainer and until HE is taken out of the way, things will remain as they are. That means we absolutely require a Pre-tribulation rapture scenario. I will expound on this later using Game theory.
Ok , it’s a number , not 600, 60 and 6, in mathematics , 1 number means number 1! I know this isn't profound but many have tried to say it’s 600, 60 and 6. No, it’s a number, it’s quite clearly 666. Where else does this number appear in the Bible ( law of 1st mention ) and do they have anything to do with our puzzle? This well help our understanding. Daniel 3 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
10 Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image: ( Height 60 Cubits , Breadth 6 Cubits, 6 instruments to sound out worship) 1 Kings 10:14 The weight of the gold that Solomon received yearly was 666 talents, 2 Chronicles 9:13 The weight of the gold that Solomon received yearly was 666 talents (I Samuel 17:4-7). Goliath of Gath Goliath’s height was six cubits; he had six pieces of armor; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. Ezra 2:13 The children of Adonikam, six hundred sixty and six. (Adonikam -"my Lord has arisen,") OK, lets see what it is not.
Some advocators have said it’s real number is 616. We can prove this wrong instantly. Lucifer likes his symbols and numbers, so you would expect him to use them to identify what’s "his" and his followers would use it to broadcast their allegiance. This ‘change’ happened after The Lord God changed the languages. Lucifer found a way around this by using symbols which can’t be changed. A Square is always a square etc. Can we find this evidence in the modern world in which Lucifer is currently the king? Yes we can.( <= something Barack Obama liked saying , just reverse it , play it and you’ll see).
Can we see the use of 666 and not 616? Remember 666, is a whole system and multidimensional in its application and not just a man. The UPC, universal products code. 3 double bars at the beginning, middle and end. The sisterhood of Avalon The popes title VICARIUS FILII DEI in Latin ( add the numbers = 666) The ancient Greek word for "the Latin speaking man" is LATEINOS ( add the numbers = 666) In Hebrew ROMITI means the Roman Man ( add the numbers = 666) This doesn't mean that the current pope is the antichrist, it just means it’s a part of the system. Razer gaming hardware symbol.
Monster drinks. those 3 slashes are Hebrew for 666. ( monster = beast ?) The google Chrome symbol. Adobe symbol. Walt Disney, Vodaphone. Actually there are hundreds using 666. All I see is 666, no 616. These are just a few examples to establish the fact that there are companies out there who very well know what they are doing and whom they want to be blessed by. This helps us with our clues knowing that the enemy is already on track and knows that 666 is their number. Not 616. Ok, having established who has wisdom already and that 666 is the number, let’s see who it isn’t.
It’s not anyone who is dead. Its future prophecy. I know this sounds obvious but many say it was Nero or Hitler etc. These men were types of , but not THE Antichrist. So it has to be a man ( not a women ) currently living or yet to be born. Why a man? Because Lucifer copies The Lord Gods plans and this man will be a false Christ copy of The Lord Jesus Christ. (Not a women, sorry girls). The scriptures are clear that it is a man. It’s not any former President or current president or future president or prime minister or king etc. of any country.
I don't care who the book writers currently write about but this generation is not and will not be impressed by any politician. This son of perdition is going to be god-like with extraordinary powers and will burst on the scene like a superhero; in fact he will present himself as The Lord Jesus Christ. Many nay Sayers say that it’s a mystery and not for us to know. However, revelation is the book that specifically reveals mysteries! It is written to us, for us. Logically why would the Holy Ghost even tell us about it, if only to have it remain a mystery? And when we are Raptured and gone, it needs to be easily explainable to those left behind so they can work out who it is to save themselves. He has many titles.
Let’s list some of them. It can be a vital insight on is character. Also to note is that in keeping with Lucifer’s agenda of counterfeiting everything that The Lord God does, these titles are expected to be opposite those of The Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ The Antichrist The sinless one The man of sin The son of the most high the son of perdition The lawful one the lawless one The lamb the beast The truth the deceitful one The wicked one The man of the earth The mighty man The advocate the enemy The adversary The Lord of the earth the head over many countries The man of peace the violent man The descendant of David the Assyrian Etc. Now remember it will be the number of his name!
Well the above are titles, not names. A title is like general ,president or Doctor. But what is his name? Well the Bible tells us it adds up to 666. And it will add up to this number in Hebrew, Greek and Latin. Why Hebrew? The old testament was written in Hebrew ( old Aramaic ), the new testament and 1st translation was written in Greek and many translations were from the Latin Vulgate. These 3 languages had numbers associated with their letters. Any attempt to use English or French as a numerology replacement will fail. Yes the Popes title adds up to 666 in those 3 languages.
The pope will be the false ecumenical Prophet directing worship to the antichrist. Please watch Jonathon Klecks YouTube videos on The Vatican buildings. He is spot on. And remember it’s only a part of the whole system; don’t focus that number on one person and one system, its multidimensional. Thought of and built by beings (fallen angels) with intellects much greater than ours so we would expect there to be great depth in its construction. Have a look at these examples VICARIUS FILII DEI THE LITERAL MEANING: VICARIUS - substituting for, or in place of FILII - means son DEI - means GOD
V = 5 F = no value D = 500 I = 1 I = 1 E = no value C = 100 L = 50 I = 1 A = no value I = 1 -------- R = no value I = 1 501 I = 1 -------- U/V = 5 53 S = no value -------- 112 + 53 + 501 = 666 112 Or in the Greek where the ancient Greek word for "the Latin speaking man" is LATEINOS L = 30 lambda A = 1 alpha T = 300 tau E = 5 epsilon I = 10 iota N = 50 nu O = 70 omicron
S = 200 sigma 666 So, knowing how to identify him, creates an existence paradox. Consider the following scenarios. Scenario 1 1) You as a Christian, have read the whole Bible and understood revelation and have read this essay. You are now armed and ready for this guy. When he turns up, you will spot him, and tell everyone around ( family friends) who he really is with proof, flood the social networks and tell anyone who would listen. Result: Satan's plans for this man fails as many catch on to this guys plan and foil it at every turn. You shout out that this is not the Lord Jesus Christ, when mud is thrown it tends to stick.
Pretty soon the new world order plan dies horribly. Remedy: Somehow these people with true discernment ( Christians), must somehow be neutralized. How does the new world order do this? Easy , please read http://www.cuttingedge.org/news/n2077.cfm Scenario 2 1) You as a Christian are taken out ( somehow) , muted, killed etc. If this was the case, it would have happened already. But we are "removed", as it is the Lords plan, if you read the article from the cutting edge above, you have pretty much figured out already the timing and scenario. The ONLY way Satans plan can go forward is if we are not here ( on Earth) as watchmen. We are undoubtedly raptured away ( in the Greek its Harpazo).
There is also mention of the great falling away. Many have said this is an apostasy or Christians falling away from the faith. No. When I read it in the Greek , it's another way of saying caught up, as in we fall away from this world. So that ends part 1 of 3, if we are still here , I'll have more in depth information in part II and you will see how far down the rabbit hole this goes. We will look at crop circles, the spirit that indwells the Antichrist and we will read and expose what the "bad guys" think. As Sun Tzu says ( and yes he may not have quoted it)
“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

KORNBREAD \"THE SNACK\" JETE : \"I knew I was the funniest bitch here!\"

RuPaul explains that for this week's maxi challenge, the queens will have to Create outfits only using products provided by Hello Kitty based off two categories: Hello Kitty BFF and Hello Kitty Eleganza. !

PEPPERMINT : \"Hello Kitty ? The little in girl is shaking!\"

Ru releases the queens for them to begin their preparations for the main challenge !

LALA RI : \"So this week's maxi challenge, is a ball, and remember what I was able to create in episode 1? Yeah I'm fucked up.\"

Each queen works on their outfit by themselves, some of them cracks jokes and everyone laughs, the vibe is really immaculate this week !

ELIMINATION DAY :

The queens present their 2 outfits on the runway...

Based on your runway presentations, we’ve made some decisions…
It's time for the judges critiques :

PEPPERMINT : You did such a cool job with both of your looks, it clearly looks like you had a lot of fun with the whole creation process, it's just very fun... It's not haute couture or very well made but it works & drag is supposed to be fun !

SASHA VELOUR : Both of these looks are very different from one another & they both work really well! it's really well made & it's seamless! It's a good bounce back from last week's weaker performance from you and it shows why you deserves that spot in the top 5!

KORNBREAD "THE SNACK" JETE : The way you presented the outfits were really fun, our problem was the outfits themselves ! It's not good, you just hot glued hello kitties on a dress & called it a day, You have a great personality it's just a shame that the visual elements sometimes are less impressive that your comedy skills.

LALA RI : The outfits are falling appart, we were expecting you to have learn some sewing lessons since episode 1, turns out you didnt... But The makeup is really good tho! That was a miss and we were rooting for you this week...

HANNAH CONDA : You did such a good job with this challenge, both or your looks are not only fun & good, but it's also very well made and very classy, you tell a story when you walk down this runway & it's amazing to witness !

I’ve consulted with the judges, but the final decision is mine to make…
I’ve made my decision…

Sasha Velour, Condragulations, you're the winner of this week's challenge ! You've won a Hello Kitty Extravaganza Package.

Hannah Conda, Peppermint, good job, you are both safe !

That means that Kornbread \"The Snack\" Jeté & LaLa Ri, I'm sorry my dears but you're both up for elimination...

KORNBREAD \"THE SNACK\" JETE : \"Ugh... One week you're winning with your good judy & the next you lipsynching against her...\"

Two queens stand before me, prior to tonight you were asked to prepare a lipsync performance of "Roar" by Katy Perry. This is your last chance to impress me & save yourself from elimination. The time has come for you to lipsync for your life ! Good luck & don’t fuck it up !

LALA RI : \"I'm the reigning lipsync assassin in this top 5, but Kornbread has shown that she's a great lipsyncher... She's my sister but that doesn't take away the fact that I'll give it my all!\"

LaLa & Kornbread lipsync to this iconic song, both queen start slow as they emote really well the first verse, When the chorus hits, LaLa jumps into a split & that really impresses the judges, Kornbread is more on the comedy side but still does a great job, the judges are looking at both queens & reacting to both. Not only it's entertaining with the moves but the lips themselves are really delivering the lyrics really tightly !

SASHA VELOUR : \"I'm so glad I'm not in RuPaul's shoes 'cause this lipsync is soooooo good from both side!\"

RuPaul looks so proud of both these queens! Michelle Visage lives for them ! During the climax, LaLa Ri jumps into a split off the stage ! You can hear Ru & the rest of the queens scream for this ! The lipsync ends & Kornbread & LaLa hugs tightly

Ladies, I've made my decision...

LaLa Ri, shantay you stay !
Kornbread "The Snack" Jeté, You've left a great mark on this competition & it pains me that we have to say goodbye... But now sashay away...

Kornbread nods & thanks the judges, she goes to the back of the stage & all the remaining queens go up to hug her before she departs, Ru & Michelle looks at them with proud eyes , because of the sisterhood. Kornbread leaves the stage : "Y'all had a fat bitch out there runnin'! I needed a snack..." everyone laughs.

2024.01.08 23:57 zohaibshikrani Oscars: 265 Feature Films in Contention for This Year’s Best Picture Award

In total, 321 films are eligible for the 96th Academy Awards.
321 films are in contention for this year’s Academy Awards, while 265 features are eligible in the best picture category, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Monday as it released its annual “reminder list” for members.
To be eligible in the general categories, films (meaning a runtime of more than 40 minutes) must open in a commercial theater in at least one of the following areas: Los Angeles County; the city of New York; the Bay Area; Chicago, Illinois; Miami, Florida; and Atlanta, Georgia, between Jan. 1, 2023 and Dec. 31, 2023. Additionally, it must complete a minimum qualifying run of seven consecutive days in the same venue.
To be eligible for the best picture category specifically, the movies must be eligible for the general entry and have “submitted a confidential Academy Representation and Inclusion Standards entry form.” Additionally, the film must meet two of the four standards required, in addition to the theatrical component.
Nomination voting starts on Jan. 11 and ends on Jan. 16. The nominations will be announced on Jan. 23. The 96th Oscars will be held on March 10 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC.
Below is a list of films eligible in the best picture category, from which Academy members will choose five to 10 best picture nominees. You can see the full list of all eligible films here.

2023.11.04 14:49 Gullible_Run_4333 OG and Reboot Crossover movie ideas (season 5 plot that never came true)

Title: "Charmed: The Tri-Verse Convergence"
Summary: The movie picks up where Season 4 ended, with the Vera-Danso sisters (Maggie, Kaela, and Mel) arriving at the Halliwell Manor in the original universe. Tensions arise as the original Charmed Ones (Piper, Phoebe, and Paige) meet their counterparts with clashing personalities.
As the tri-verse convergence unfolds, legacy characters offer guidance. The spirits of Prue and Macy explain the impending threat, pushing the two sets of sisters to unite. The original Charmed Ones mentor the Vera-Danso sisters, sharing their knowledge and helping them harness their powers effectively.
The Charmed Ones face supernatural challenges reminiscent of the original series and confront the corrupt male counterparts, the Montclair brothers, from the third universe. Each sister's unique power is employed to weaken the adversaries, while the Montclair brothers wield the stolen Power of Three.
The Ultimate Quest: In their journey to confront the ultimate power and restore the balance of the tri-verse, the combined Charmed Ones realize that the answer lies in the center universe, a place where the fabric of magic is strongest. To embark on this quest, they must first gather a series of powerful artifacts and knowledge scattered across the tri-verse.
Throughout the movie, they retrieve these artifacts, each of which grants them unique abilities, and gain critical knowledge about the nature of magic, destiny, and the Power of Three.
The Center Universe: Upon reaching the center universe, the Charmed Ones and their male counterparts engage in a final confrontation, where they utilize their newfound powers, as well as the wisdom they've accumulated, to vanquish the Montclair brothers and break the malevolent spell that altered the Power of Three.
The Ultimate Power: In the heart of the center universe, the Charmed Ones discover the "Nexus Crystal," a mystical gem that embodies the pure essence of the Power of Three. With its power harnessed, the Charmed Ones return to their respective universes, where they use it to correct the balance and ensure the rightful Power of Three is restored in each universe.
The movie concludes with the tri-verse at peace, the Charmed Ones united and wiser, and the spirits of Prue and Macy watching over them with pride and satisfaction. Pipers' children and Mel's baby from the future witness the unity of their magical family, ensuring the legacy of sisterhood endures in all three universes.

2023.11.04 00:30 Alex_Demote Football Fan ---> Folkmore Stan Part 5: Taylor's Version

Part 0 Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 part 4
This post is a lot later than it usually is, and it isn't because it's Friday. Ok well part of it is because I went to the eras tour matinee at 4 and that movie is LONG. Yes, that does mean that I'm finished listening to everything. Hi from the future! Did I make that joke already? Or have I not made it the first time yet? Wait until the finale post for the Eras review, you impatient so and so's.
The real reason this post is late is because it's taken me so long to write about Folklore. I want to get it right, but I don't want to alter the experiment. At one point, I considered cutting this album from the timeline and placing it at the end. I spent 2 hours on the debut album. I spent 7 on rep. But I've spent two days thinking about folklore. With rep I went an album into the future before going back to it. I finished Taylor's discography before rereading my first impressions of folklore. It was a lot easier to post these when I wasn't taking it this seriously. I got things wrong. I didn't understand a lot of it. I misinterpreted things. It's so rough, I decided not to read the wiki. If I did, I wouldn't have the strength not to edit my first impressions. I'm scared that a dozen of you are going to skip this intro and go straight to these reviews and then tell me I missed the mark. It's ok - I know now. It's my favorite album and my worst review. For that, I implore you:
Lower your expectations. Yes, YOU! Right there, with your hand curled under your chin and your phone balanced with your pinky finger. I SEE YOU, and I feel you getting comfortable that these reviews are going to be a certain way. You need to acknowledge right now that these albums are plum lush with depth and character, and I'm just a guy listening to everything once. I even went back and listened to the pond sessions and I STILL didn't have time to process all this material. They're big. W I D E. Deep. They've got dimension. How many other ways do I need to phrase this before you skip ahead? DON'T! Stop right thereyoustopwriggling fuck you're slippery, what's your skin routine?
Listen. These are my favorite albums. I like them. I'm not head over heels for them. I've got gripes. Music is an incredibly varied and nuanced medium and it was nigh impossible for Taylor Swift to end up being my favorite artist. I like her a lot, honestly I like Taylor the person markedly more than I like Taylor the musician, and the musician is pretty darn good. But even though these albums hit my feel good buttons, they're not going to change my life and I'm most certainly not going to catch everything on the first pass. Good? Good. Good talk. We're good. You good?

COVID ALBUM STRAP IN LET'S RIIIIIIDE
I love this album, but it's not good enough. Not yet. I got lost in it, and came out the other end not knowing what time it is. I've spent this whole exercise casually enjoying her stuff. Now I need one to sit with. I'd settle for just one album that makes me forget my name while it's on.
the 1
Ayy she's doin good and she's on some new shit. That's great to hear. Good for you, dear. I think? I think I'm about to have my feel good album. I deserve this. If this is the vibe of the sad song about the guy who would've been the one, I'm gonna be able to chill with this whole affair. "The greatest loves of all time are over now" is a poignant observation. You have to live out the greatest things for the next group to call them that. I'll be interested to hear the backstory on this track.
cardigan (Music Video)
What is sensual politics?? Aw. You put me on and said I was your favorite. That's sweet. I'm trying to be an adult about what she said right before that. Did it work? She's kissing in cars, that's another one for passenger's seat bingo. Oh man, it's getting sad now. Peter losing Wendy? Who gave you permission to poke that ancient wound? Neither of them deserved to lose the other.
the last great american dynasty
For those playing along at home, I am now going back to finish my reputation review block because this album makes me feel safe and I'm ready to tackle my demons. Be right back. See you yesterday.
I return a better person. The personal nature of this album, and the storytelling, are exactly what I would ask for in an album that came out during COVID. I have a million words I want to write about what that time was like, but I'll suffice to say that what I needed from my media was a feel like I was 1 on 1 with it. I wanted it to be close to me. I was afraid and wanted to huddle up close for safety. Which, ironically, would have violated social distancing. Thank God for digital distribution.
This song is narratively dense. One of the things I heard about Taylor Swift from the Game Thread (Taylor's Version)'s was that some of her songs felt like they could have been books. That's what sparked my interest in her in the first place, and I feel like I'm getting that now.
Alex, why haven't you dissected the story? Well, dear reader, the denser these get, the less I'll have the ability to unpack them from my first listen. Remember the mission - we gotta get through every single song in a week. We're more than half through, if I spend an hour on each song we will fail. Taylor's music needs more than I can give it now for this first pass. It's ok. There's a lot more days in the calendar for me to enjoy its richness. Tsk tsk, stop; don't ask me if I'm going to start listening to music again after this is over, you won't like the answer.
exile (feat. Bon Iver)
This guy has a really rustic and western voice. Don't ask me to explain what I mean, I can't figure it out. I like it. The feel of this album is what I've wanted from the jump, and it's such a great payoff for this whole experiment. The piano is so delicate and the vocal performances float on top like a cloud over gentle waves.
This song occupies the same space as The Last Time for me. I would enjoy listening to them back to back.
my tears ricochet
It's funny. Nowadays I'm looking for something to break up the pace, keep the album from being one note. But when it came out, that's not what I would have wanted at all. I was a bottomless pit of media consumption that wanted to be flooded with consistent and uniform experiences. I wanted a buffet where every offering was the same comfort food over and over again. That's what this album feels like so far, tonally.
mirrorball
I'm nostalgic for this album and I've never heard it before. This song feels like she's writing about how she reflects what her audience's myriad faces are. She's making music for them as much as herself, it wouldn't surprise me if there was some of that in this song's meaning.
seven
She does a great job capturing the childlike vocal rhythm for the verses: "pack your dolls and a sweater, we'll move to India forever" is one example, it has the same rhythm of a jump rope chant. I resonate strongly with the message she's tackling here. I'm a really nostalgic person and it elicits a bunch of memories from me that I'll save you from reading here.
august
That's it - the way Taylor writes a song, it's like watching a storm forming on the horizon, and feeling the temperature change with the wind.
I'm glad Taylor is this musician, and I'm glad that Taylor isn't JUST this musician. It was really smart of her to embrace the encouragement to experiment with her music. She never got stale, and we can enjoy an album like this without it making her discography feel oversaturated with songs like it. I wonder if recording these made her look forward to doing rerecords of her old music.
As I'm writing this I'm constantly making notes for myself to remember things I want to say. The further along we get, I feel like I've settled in and I hear myself thinking, it's ok to not worry about nothing that. When we get there, I'll know what to do. I trust me.
I don't have time to talk about how they did the camera work in this cabin studio but I want you to know I appreciate the intelligence of it. We're on the other side now but I miss when the world was ending, it was like falling asleep in the bath.
this is me trying
It's been a little bit since I unnecessarily called out that she mentioned being in the car. She did it. Just there, she said she pulled the car off the road to the lookout. Does it fit the thematic line I was trying to pull earlier on? No, not really. "I got wasted like all my potential" don't make me laugh, this woman is one of the most actualized and successful creative talents in history. I get that she can feel that about herself though, and express that she's working on herself. But its not really about her, is it?
illicit affairs
Ah. She's getting tired. I'm tired too. It's inevitable to get desensitized to the things that used to bring you joy. It doesn't mean you don't still want it, but the color gets drained from that former source of brightness. There's a magic trick involved in letting life breathe back in some of the joy to those things.
invisible string
This song about reflection over where you ended up as a person, it aligns so closely with what I would write for myself, in long form, if I was ready. I have a dozen ways I want to do it, all drawn out and planned. I wonder if I'll ever flesh them out.
mad woman
This song is meta as hell. She sounds like she's writing about material she's written, without dropping the feeling that she's also writing about something fresh. The ability to do both at the same time is rare and the result of refining an already impressive skillset. Good shit.
epiphany
The way this song starts is really nice. Is this song about military service? Oh, this is COVID so being a medical professional is like being in war. Holding your hand through plastic...yeah. I'm not sure what her meaning is for only 20 minutes to sleep but when COVID started I was only sleeping a couple hours a night, just doom-scrolling every night until the sun came up.
betty
Harmonica yay! Oh jeez, what did you do to Betty? This song is ...this is it. I'm going to ask you to please do something. Listen to the Barenaked Ladies song I Live With It Every Day. Don't overreact to the ridiculous sounds (it's silly so it can get serious later), listen to the lyrics, and then once it softens at 2:20, you might feel a little bit like I feel right now. On the edge of tears. I've listened to nearly 200 songs now. Please listen to this one.
Fuck.
Earlier on I would've thought that Taylor stole Betty's girlfriend...or shamed her for being gay? Now I don't care what she did. It doesn't matter. I just want to listen to this song over again and be alone.
peace
Mm, we are post coming of age for sure. I'm not ready to share how this is making me feel. Is this a Joe song? Is she saying she feels his family is her family and she would have his children? And shes worried that she can't give him peace because of all the attention she gets? Oh, no. I hope I'm wrong and it's a fictional one.
hoax
I had taken solace up to this point in the fact that it was easy for me to joke and have fun with how I portrayed myself in these reviews. That's getting harder and my words sting a little now when I pull them out and place them down. I know what she's talking about now when she says "this was just as hard as when they pulled me apart." No other sadness in the world would do, yeah that's a line. The silences between each track have been getting longer.
the lakes
This is powerful. I need to watch the long pond studio sessions and think about how I'm going to write a final thoughts on this album.
Need
This song is gorgeous, and whatever the effect is on the chorus, I wish more songs felt like this. I listened to the piano version since it was all I could find and it was wonderful.
Final Thoughts On Folklore:
I despise that I don't have time to listen to this album 5 times and give it the time it deserves. With the exception of rep, each of Taylor's albums up to this point has been easy enough to grasp with a single listen. There's so much more here than there was in Fearless. We just. Don't. Have. Time. Favorite tracks? Buddy, who knows. I don't know yet. TLGAD, Illicit Affairs, Cardigan, Betty...Don't ask me right now.
evermore (2020)
willow
Great start. Taylor really knows how to open an album. The guitar here is more interesting than I'm used to from her music. Actually, so is the melody. The song has shifted tone halfway through as well. COVID has been good to our girl. Wreck my plans, that's my man. That's one of the first lines that really felt sexy to me. That and Go! Fight! Win!
champagne problems
Ever been on a night train? It's such an all consuming mood. The world becomes a tiny place. Holy shit, she just referenced a Chevy door and the strings are going. That's a shot to the spine. Flannel cute, ooh. This composition has depth while staying simple. She did the thing where she twists the perspective at the end, that's a good move. I also liked how she played with the piano keys for a second after it ended.
gold rush
I like how she's telling me what she doesn't like. She's running the vocal rhythm moves hard here. That's something I really enjoy from her. This one went by quick.
‘tis the damn season
What a title! I wish I had written "there's an ache in you put there by the ache in me." I wish that was mine. Seeing old sights in the car, Taylor? Mud on truck tires? She really is thinking about her hometown. Is this biographical? I think I saw something about this album being entirely about her while Folklore was more fictional. I might have that backwards.
tolerate it
I haven't mentioned it but I like the choice to have track titles in under case. Oh, she's watching someone tolerate her. I wouldn't be shocked if this was about John Mayer. I don't know what this kind of vocal performance is called. Choral?
no body, no crime (feat. HAIM)
Don't panic but we're on our country shit. She's telling one of those stories. This one is certainly not about her, lol. She's hitting that visual of truck tires again, it's a button she pushes to illicit certain feelings and visions. She twisted the perspective again! She loves that move. What a fun story.
happiness
I like that she uses curse words like a normal person even though it gets her the explicit tag. She knows her fans have grown up enough to not care. She's really digging to hit some low notes there and it sounds good. Oh no, is this song about her and Joe breaking up after their long relationship? I loved the mood of it.
dorothea
Is it really so uncommon that Taylor sings her own harmony that this is the first time I've noticed it in a verse? This song is one to sway to. This Dorothea lady sounds like a character.
coney island (feat. The National)
I've got another coney island song that I really like, but it's about going back to it. She's been talking about shattering someone in a few tracks. Dropping a glass heart, or here she's accidentally crushing something. Oh shit, there's a cowboy here. Hello, sir. Yeehaw, amigo. I can't do this guys voice for whatever reason. He just sounds like he's supposed to be roping steer right now. Yeah, I don't like it. I'm sorry he got into an accident though.
ivy
Ooh, where does the spirit meet the bones, anyway? This might be my favorite track since the first. Gorgeous banjo stuff going on and the harmony, it's right where I want to be. I'd quote my favorit lines but it'd be the whole song. Is him putting roots in her Dreamland a sexy thing? Because I feel like it's much more about her mind.
cowboy like me
Good evening sir, how would you prefer your yees hawed tonight? Oh, sorry I wrote that based on the title before the song started in earnest. What makes someone a cowboy like her? And now she's a bandit. Good harmony for sure. This song might be too slow for me but I might be feeling impatient. Ah, there's a tone shift but it goes right back to the mosey.
long story short
Thank you Taylor, for the unusual sounds here. It's breaking a little monotony we fell into. I can handle a little wood block percussion. Did she say she threw a sword into a bush? She needs to go pick that back up, it'll fuck the hell out of a hedge trimmer next time the home owner is doing yardwork. If the shoe fits, walk in it! That's what the rep album was about. I learned stuff.
marjorie
It's nothing fancy but the way she performs that chorus is captivating. That's another car ride in the books, for those keeping score. And it sounds like Marjorie was driving which means we look up to her. She was watching, then listening, now singing. Taylors ability to take us through a progression in her stories has greatly improved.
closure
Tempooooooo! Tempo? What the fuck is going onnnnnnn! I fucking love this, I'm so confused. Why does she have an accent in the chorus? Is that a Jamaican accent? I can't believe Taylor recorded this next to an active construction site.
evermore (feat. Bon Iver)
Stoked to see Bon Iver back, Taylor was so excited to work with him last time. I like his voice. Not enough people sing about motion capture. "Hello, December." I'm ready to go back there if you are, Taylor. Can I get an isolation of her saying pause like that please? Whoa, Bon Iver changed the tempo! This dude is so weird and good. I wonder if I would like his music. Ooh, frooOOOooost! We're done being excited now, that was so well executed and I'm rewarded with harmonies. Evermore!
right where you left me
Well hey if it isn't teen sensation Taylor Swift! Her vocal register has been lower like this more often lately and I enjoy it. Her scene descriptions here are nice and rich. The girl who got frozen and time went on for everyone else? Yeah, I've played Life is Strange. Here's some more shattered glass. What the hell happened, Taylor? This backing track is so groovy for such a sad song, great choice.
it’s time to go
Well I'll be damned. I don't think I have anything to say about this one. It was fine. Wait, no, we are freezing our past and there's glass. These are some common ideas in this album. What's she up to?
Final Thoughts on Evermore:
These two albums are definitely my favorite, and while I like Folklore the most, I might like more songs on Evermore, especially the eponymous track. But I don't have to wrestle with it like I do Folklore. This album is the good guy I want to spend the weekend with. Folklore is my Jess Mariano. Favorites? Evermore, Ivy, Closure, Willow.
Non-Album Songs
Renegade (Big Red Machine feat. Taylor Swift)
I think this is that guy's band, the one from the long pond studio sessions stuff. I saw Big Red Machine written under his name at some point. Oh dang, is that his voice? Ooh, the guitar. That's my shit. It's just wandering around. This song is great. It has that driving energy I like, Taylor's exploring her feelings, the whole collage of sound just works. If anything I think Taylor's writing is getting a little lost in the shuffle but it sounds good. I just get the jist of what she's talking about, instead of the full strength. I didn't even mention the interesting visuals in the music video.
Birch (Big Red Machine feat. Taylor Swift)
When Taylor Swift songs are named after a plant, they go hard. If the way you ever wake up is old, you'll know what he means here. This song is more BRM with Taylor supporting. I like that we got one of each taking the focus. This guy's got a unique and satisfying sound. I could imagine having this one while doing the dishes. Once again the video features some really interesting looking visuals. This look could come off as really lame if not done right. Like, he's got the hat, glasses, and mustache and he's doing an analogue-wave thing over nature footage. Playing with fire there, but he didn't get burned.
Gasoline (HAIM feat. Taylor Swift)
FUNK ME UP, DEARIE. heyifyoucouldneverbringupthatIsaidthatjustnow, that'dbegreatthanks. This has a nice groove but i's unfortunately kind of forgettable. For how excited I was about the sound profile, and I still am, nothing really develops to make this a memorable experience. It's just a neat little thing that happened.
The Joker and the Queen (Ed Sheeran feat. Taylor Swift)
Holy Jeez, it's Ed Sheeran. You better not rap, young man. This music video looks and feels like that movie The Holiday. Oh, Edward, you have such a breathy lilt of a voice buddy. It's nice. WOW. Their voices come together beautifully. It can't work for a long sitting because they're too similar, but I'd legit pass out if we got Lightbody in here from The Last Time to support the bottom end of this thing. Imagine those three voices enmeshed. Cute music video, as well. This kid is now what Ed Sheeran looks like to me because I haven't seen him yet.
Carolina
Ack, bug noises. Oh, ok. So this song should be in Red Dead Redemption. I watched the lyric video on Taylor's Youtube channel for this one. It's really moody. Her voice sounds great when she's down in this register. Makes me wonder if she could take the man's part with a nice alto sung by a man. Wait, didn't that kind of happen with ZAYN? That guy's voice was high!
Fearless (Taylor's Version) 2021
This is the first time other than rp that I've heard an album again. Man the recording quality is so, so improved. And her voice is so much more mature! Wow! It's making me like this music more, but also knowing where we've gone since this album, it feels pleasantly wide eyed and hopeful.
I CANT BELIEVE I just enjoyed you belong with me. What the actual fuck has happened to me.
Today Was a Fairytale
Huh, so I'm assuming these vault songs are from the period of the album, but didn't make the cut before? Pretty smart idea to add value for the Taylors versions. It's sappy and blunt, but that's Fearless, baby. Listening to this after all these other albums is a real trip. Somehow, I don't hate it.
You All Over Me (feat. Maren Morris)
The bright sound of the guitar is so nostalgic, even though I was in this album only 4 days ago. Clever lyrics here but it sure does sound like country music. I wonder what these songs would sound like if she had remastered them in the Folkmore style. I'd probably be a big fan of them, and I wonder what that says about my musical biases.
Mr. Perfectly Fine
She let a little bit of cool production stuff slide into this track. That country guitar did a little ceiling fan distortion thing. I don't know how to describe this stuff, gimme a break. This is the best of the three vault songs for me so far. If at the beginning of this, you had played me this song and told me this was as good as it gets for Taylor Swift, I would have said it's impressive. Now, I know this is nowhere near her ceiling but I can still appreciate what the me of last Sunday would've seen in this song.
We Were Happy
Aw, you threw your hands around my neck back when I deserved it? I hope this song was written when she was a teen so it doesn't mean she wrote that about herself in 2021. I kind of feel like this is a recent write up though, which looks back on this album's time period. For what it's worth, owning a farm isn't what it's cracked up to be.
That’s When (feat. Keith Urban)
That snare and bass drum sound great in a country-esque track. It's a small thing but it makes a big difference. Wait, this is what Keith Urban sounds like? I see why he's popular, his voice is very gentle. I wouldn't have chosen to listen to him, but it didn't kill em.
Don’t You
These songs that sound like Fearless but have a more mature perspective are really interesting. I wonder if Taylor enjoyed putting these together. I bet it was a pretty funny feeling. Hey wait, there's some synth stuff going on back in here. Fascinating. If these songs actually were all written and not touched up for her modern perspective, it'll be funny to realize I'm putting it into the music myself as a listener.
Bye Bye Baby
For whatever reason I've been noticing the percussion a lot. Might just be the better mix for the album as a whole. I don't click with this song lyrically, but it didn't suck or anything.
If This Was a Movie TV
Why is this separate? It fits really well for the album, and the atmosphere is so good. Have I already heard this? I definitely have. I think this must sound a lot different from the version I heard before. This is moody and kind of rock-y. If it's an identical accompaniment, I'm gonna need an unbarrassment pill. Hm? What's an unbarrassment pill? It's like a lactaid but instead of after eating cheese you take it after you've said something completely moronic in front of a bunch of better-educated people. I keep them on me during business meetings.
Red (Taylor's Version) 2021
So I don't listen to music ordinarily, we've established this. Throughout this whole exercise I've pushed past my discomfort around having to listen to so much music, and I'm reaching the point where my lungs are starting to burn from how long I've held my breath. This album was enjoyable on first listen, but it takes a lot to make me want to relisten to something by choice. Fearless had the nostalgia going for it somehow, partially because I'd heard some snippets of it when I was younger. We haven't had to deal with me being grumpy because I'm listening to musi-----I was listening to the original. Please hold.
Bad mood gone, I've entered a new state of grace. This album starts with such free spirit and positivity. I can't believe this is the album right before Reputation. She won't sound like this again for years. The more I think about it, the John Mayer thing turned into the Scarf Guy thing, which turned into the Taylor is Over thing, which became rep. Man, she must've really needed the release of that reputation album. I get it more each day why that's such an important album. I also see what people were saying about how Fearless sounds the most different in the Taylor's Version, because of the age difference. But it's still noticeable even here, for the better. There's something irreplaceably youthful about her voice in the originals, but you can't discount the bump in quality that's here. It's neat that they both have their own value, even if it does feel scummy to listen to the old record. On relisten, I did hear her say that nothing safe is worth the drive in Treacherous. That's one reference I missed before and it actually adds a lot to the car lore. Shit, this album's long. I'm very impressed that she got Lightbody, Eduardo, and almost all of the original instrumentalists back for the re-record. Speaks to her quality as a person that they wanted to come back for her. On relisten, The Last Time is my favorite song of the Young Taylor years. I Heart ? gets a solid second place finish. I like how Ed Sheeran says "We good to geau?" before Everything has Changed, and the the raw quality of it is so good. I bet they're good friends, something just sounds like chemistry in their songs. Plus he's been on a lot of tracks. Everything Has Changed is very good. If I didn't include it in my favorites of the album before, I would now. It's actually incredible how hard it is for me to remember what I wrote before. I've written 26,300 words in the last 4 days (if you're curious, I did my listening notes way ahead and then came back the evening of each post and do everything else - post-wiki, music videos, etc. As I write this, it's Thursday at 2am). This album feels softer than it did originally. I wonder if that's because I've listened to the Folkmore stuff now, since I'm pretty sure these are 1-to-1 recreations.
Better Man
There are NINE vault songs on here!? There's no way this was written back then, right? This sounds like there's been plenty of time for her to think and process what was going on in her life back when. This has so much country feel to it. Saying she knows why they had to say goodbye like the back of her hand really gives me that feeling that this comes after a lot of time has passed.
Nothing New (feat. Phoebe Bridgers)
This song would have worked well on the Juno soundtrack. It feels like Taylor, but it also doesn't. "How long will it be cute when you can't blame it on my youth" is a dagger. I like the place this song came from, it's a great addition to the album.
Babe
This definitely has the feel of the Red album. The promises, promises, promises echo is a nice touch. Wrecking ball? Well, it's a classic breakup song and that's all there really is to it, I'm afraid.
Message in a Bottle
What is this beat called? Is it like a euro thing? I'm picturing this song over a montage in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Don't knock it if you haven't read the book, and Alexis Bledel was great in the movie.
I Bet You Think About Me (feat. Chris Stapleton)
Don't say that a girl has a fine pedigree, it's off-putting. Could just be my dog brain complicating the lyric. I don't know who Chris Stapleton is but his voice sounds like he's never needed to use a Print and Ship Center. This got country, and quick. I wonder how it ended up here, this doesn't fit the sound how I thought it might.
Forever Winter
I've hyper-focused on the car lore during my first listen through of this discography, but the next person who does a series like this should focus on the weather lore. For a second, I thought she would be a silver sun forever, and I really want to write something using that. What a cool piece of imagery. This song was fine but I was mostly thinking about weather lore.
Run (feat. Ed Sheeran)
Welcome back, Ketchup Guy! Of all the recurring characters, you're my favorite. I'm going to finally look up what this guy looks like. Oh my god lmao. His resting expression is pretty silly, but I just read that he has lazy eyes and I'm not trying to bully him, he looks like a sweet guy. He does look a lot like that kid from the Joker and the Queen. His face is growing on me, I like him in glasses. What a goof. I looked it up and it seems like they're very good friends which I think is wonderful. This song has a great feel to it. Man, he's got a great voice. I've been told he's kind of a big deal right these days and I can see why.
The Very First Night
Man, this is another montage type song. I wonder if that's why she had so many vignette-style music videos early on. She has quite a few songs with this vibe. Probably the casualty of being so prolific, you'll end up having a few handfuls of songs that are very similar feeling.
All Too Well (10 Minute Version)
Ah, we've arrived. People have gotten me anticipating this version of the song. The longest song I can remember listening to is Albuquerque by Weird Al, which while it is absolutely a storytelling song, I don't think it's very, uh, similar, to this. Ok Taylor, I'm in the car and we almost ran a red light. Full focus. If you go to a donut shop and they're out of jelly donuts I'm going to lose my mind. Sorry, sorry, full focus. Oh, he threw her the keys! But she dropped them, LMAO! We aren't ready for Getaway Car yet. Man, this song is full of wonderful things about Scarf Guy. She must have really loved him. I've heard from some interviews with Tom Holland that Jake G is a lot of fun to be around, lots of youthful older brother energy. I wonder if he was like that with Taylor, and she fell into a one-way dead-end love. OH, that's why loving him is like driving that Maserati down the dead end street. Wow, got there on my own. I'm sorry but I have absolutely no sympathy for Taylor when she says it hurt her when he said if they were closer in age maybe it would've worked. It hurt you and that's awful, but also, respect a man who feels uncomfortable dating a younger woman and acts to rectify that feeling. We've got a lot of the opposite problem going around. She did the subject shift here, now saying that HE remembers it all too well. Oh shit. Did Scarf Guy continue dating women Taylor's age, but tell her that she was too young? I'm not going to pretend that Taylor gives off a very innocent and childish energy sometimes, but that's HARSH. He didn't want someone older, he wanted someone with a young body who acted more grown up. Fucking, yuck. Get me out of here. Taylor, we gotta get outta here.
A Message from Taylor
Oh dang, so all of these were meant for Red, meaning they were all written then, huh? Credit where it's due, I thought Better Man would have been written many years later. Our girl has some serious emotional depth.
Non-album songs
Safe & Sound (feat. The Civil Wars)
I think I like the Civil Wars? I don't remember. It's that folk sound that I crave, though, so I bet I'm right. It's gotta be cold out there and Taylor has on some quarter-sleeves. Get her a jacket, for Christ's sake. They just cut to the fireside with who I assume are the Civil Wars and I want to see them more. Oh damn, there's a forest fire. Holy shit, that guy's voice is haunting. That was a great song and I'd put it in the small pile with my favorites.
Eyes Open
I like when Taylor does stuff with more of a rock sound, but I want it to be more forward. I need a punky alt rock song. Hey, it kind of got there! I would like 11 more of these, please.

2023.10.22 02:24 IsaiahDuvall 'Sistahs Cinema': The Emergence of the Black Women's Film and the Changing Nature of Black Womanhood in Western Media

Lately I've been working on a script about a group of middle aged Black women who conspire to operate a string of mega ministries set in the early 2000's. I am Black but not a woman. The idea has become more prominent in my mind because I've been thinking about the image of older women in media, especially Black women. I think we're all somewhat familiar with the 'Grandma Cinema' genre at this point. 80 for Brady, BookClub, Otherhood, Poms, Bad Grandmas etc, we've gotten used to this type of film. Most of these women rarely worked together throughout the bulk of their careers and if you pay attention there's very few non-white women in these films. Pam Grier, Loretta Devine, Rita Moreno and Angela Bassett pop up here and there but that's about as far as it goes. That'll probably change in the next 10 years as the women that my generation grew up watching gets older. Can you imagine Viola Davis, Angela Bassett, Regina King and Halle Berry in a movie together? Or Taraji P Henson, Whoopi Goldberg, Queen Latifah and Vanessa Williams in a movie? You actually probably can because while it's not an exhaustive list many of the Black actresses 45 and above have already done quite a few of these types of films together. 'Sistahs Cinema' as I'm going to affectionately call it has been around for a while now and shockingly it's incredibly diverse as a subgenre, although there's usually some recurring themes we'll get into later. But first a refresher on the history of Sistahs Cinema.
While Black female led films had been a thing since the 50's, you didn't really start to see what we probably think of when we think of this type of film until the 80's. Carmen Jones is kind of the baby version of this. There are other Black women in the film and they are somewhat important in the narrative but Carmen mostly interacted with the men of the film and the core plot revolves around her relationship to the men. The Color Purple is the real genesis of the genre. Cecile spends a lot of the movie getting her ass beat by men but she spends a lot of time interacting with, opposing and later being uplifted by the women as well. Perhaps not as much as she should've considering the book was basically a thesis statement for Womanism, but that's another post for another time. While I won't say it exploded as a genre, it reliably became a type of film that would consistently make money. They often are awards contenders and a lot of them are critically acclaimed. We tend to get at least two a year and this genre has been a lot more prolific in TV and in independent cinema. So now that we've got a bit of background, let's delve into some of the 'rules' of Sistahs Cinema:
-There has to be at least three or more Black women in the film and they need to interact with each other in ways that are meaningful or impactful to the plot and overall narrative. They need to be the main characters and the supporting cast should also contain quite a few of them as well. The movie should be *about* them, not just have them in it. Boomerang has a lot of Black women in it but they're largely side characters in relation to the male characters. The first Black Panther had great female characters but the women aren't at the core of the narrative, they don't drive the plot.
-While men can be in the film, they should not outshine the women. Eddie Murphy is great in Dreamgirls but you leave that film thinking about Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce. Danny Glover acted his dick off in The Color Purple but you come away thinking about Ceclie, Sophia and Shug. Can you remember the names of the dudes in Living Single? I can't. Do you really care about the guys in Abbott Elementary outside of who Janine is gonna end up with? I'm exaggerating a bit but I think you get my point.
-The film has to have a theme relating to sisterhood and Black women's reliance upon one another and the complicated relationships between women. Not every project with a Black woman as a lead falls into Sistahs Cinema. Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder are great shows but so much of those shows revolves around the men in their lives and the women in the cast are often in opposition to each other. So we're looking for more Living Single and less Scandal.
-Black womanhood needs to be explored somehow. It's not just enough for the characters to be Black, the crossroads of their gender and their race has to be integral to the narrative in some manner. It can be explicit, a lot of times it's more subtle but it's gotta be there in some shape or another. Basically you need to be able to ask 'could this be made exactly the same but with white women?' and in turn answer 'no'. It has to feel like this is exploring an experience or viewpoint unique to Black women.
-There's almost always a plot point where the main group is split apart by a man, sometimes justifiably sometimes not. Sometimes it's a quick detour, a lot of times it's the main plot. They usually realize the men in their lives haven't been completely straight with them and the women reunite: e.g. SoulFood, Dreamgirls, Girlfriends, Insecure and The Woman King
-There's usually some type of unspoken, or sometimes spoken, element of colorism that eventually drives a wedge between the women but it's usually overcome by the end of the film. Sometimes it's a main plot point but usually it's just subtext : e.g. The Color Purple, Precious, Dreamgirls, Girlfriends, Self-Made, A Different World
-Romantic relationships, at least straight ones, are portrayed as disastrous to the women's self esteem and sense of worth and by the end she and/or her friend group come to realization 'they don't need a man' and she either forgoes a romantic relationship or places much less emphasis on them by the end of her arc: e.g. The Color Purple, Dreamgirls, The Parkers, Being Mary Jane, The Daughters of the Dust to a point
Sistahs Cinema is unique in that while I cannot think of too many films where heavy hitters like Meryl Streep, Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda and Glenn Close have worked with other women of a similar status, until relatively recently, while I can think of a pretty long list of films where Black women did. Queen Latifah has probably worked with damn near every Gen X and Millennial Black actress at this point. Whoopi Goldberg, Kimberly Elise, Vanessa Williams (the red one), Regina Hall and Angela Bassett can reliably be expected to show up in these. Tyler Perry essentially built an entire career off of work like this. While white women still benefit the most in the entertainment industry, media that centers Black women is not without its prestige or it's fans. Regina King, Viola Davis, Tracee Ellis Ross, Taraji P Henson and many more Oscar and Emmy nominated and winning actresses got their start here and many of them still do this kind work. One of the appeals of Sistahs Cinema is the women themselves. Black women have not had it easy by any imaginable stretch in this country and often their womanhood is disregarded entirely. Black women as a whole are strong not because they want to be but rather because they *have* to be. With everything they have up against them, a lot of them have internalized a streak of independence that often does result in them succeeding in areas that historically they've been shut out of. That kind of reputation comes with a certain level of begrudging respect that many women who work in the industry have admitted they've encountered once they reached a certain level of their careers. This has manifested itself in a couple of ways. Black women play *A LOT* of judges, cops, lawyers, activists, social workers, teachers, professors etc. While old stereotypes do persist, new ones have emerged. The 'Black Boss Lady' archetype is a well known one at this point. Dr. Bailey, Amanda Waller, Olivia Pope, Annaliese Keating, The Chief from Carmen Sandeigo and roughly three quarters of Angela Bassett's career falls nearly into this. That there's not really an equivalent archetype for Asian, Latina or really even white women speaks to both the difference in challenges Black women as a population face in terms of perception but also some of the advantages they have created for themselves, especially in the entertainment industry.
Secondly, Black women want to see themselves onscreen free of most of the regressive stereotypes that they're often forced to deal with in mainstream media. As more Black women have gained power in the industry, they've made more content that speaks to them. Not every film or show in Sistahs Cinema is made by them, and you can definitely tell when it isn't, but Black women have been taking their power back more and more and shifting the narrative and adding layers to their public image. There's obviously the feminist angle that can transcend race as well. I know a lot of white women who loved The Color Purple, Precious, Waiting to Exhale, Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Hidden Figures. Lots of white ladies showed up for The Woman King. A female critic friend of mine confided to me 'this is what I wish Wonder Woman was'. 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going' is beloved by Black and white women. Again there's not really an equivalent for non-Black women, especially Asian and Latinas. They can look at films and shows like this and see strong women overcoming obstacles using their smarts, wit, tenacity and inborn strength. A lot of these films position women in opposition to men and have strong themes of sisterhood. It's not like there aren't films that don't check some of these boxes but they're far and few between. White women are still dealing with being sidelined as love interests or long suffering wives or ingenues who fall for whatever bland square jawed white man Hollywood is telling us we need to be attracted to next. They too want to see themselves as the heroes of their own stories independent of the men of their lives. Because Sistahs Cinema is so reliant upon sisterhood as a tool against the patriarchy, it makes sense why this genre has appeal outside of the Black community.
This isn't to say that white women don't have feminist icons in the media. Mary Richards, Murphy Brown, Liz Lemon, Meredith Grey, Carrie Bradshaw are some of the more commonly noted examples. Erin Brokovich, Silkwood, Million Dollar Baby and The Blind Side are films that position white women in this light as well. But notice that these examples are largely professional, middle to upper middle class examples. There's lots of poverty stricken and working class non-Black women who want to see themselves rise above the obstacles too. Sistahs Cinema by default does this because a large chunk Black American women are working class so these films are speaking to their reality and offering hope. So not only do the protagonists in these films serve as feminist icons, they're working class heroes too. Who didn't cheer for Precious or Ceclie when they finally escaped their abusive situations and moved onto greener pastures? A lot of women identified more Viola Davis than Emma Stone in The Help. Rochelle from Everybody Hates Chris is beloved in a lot of Latin America specifically because of how she represents the working class woman. Even in films where the women are professional, oftentimes the narrative is centered around them battling both racism and sexism. Hidden Figures is a great example of this. Lots of white ladies were crying at my showing of it a few years ago when Katherine Johnson finally got the respect she deserved by the end. I was shocked to find out that many younger white women actually related more to Miranda Bailey as a woman fighting to be seen an authority figure in a male dominated field while maintaining a personal life as opposed to Meredith D Luffy who spent 20 seasons going from one malcontent hunk to another.
Then of course, there's the gays. Queer media is exceedingly white and cis so Black queer men and trans women have often flocked and attached themselves to Sistahs Cinema. Which isn't to say non-Black queers don't have affinity for it too. There's a long and complicated history between white gay men and Black women that I'm not really gonna get too deep into right now. But needless to say lots of Black female protagonists have gained their places as queer icons, hell of them were actually queer in the book they came from but again that's for another time. A lot of film and television centered around Black women is about doing all you can in the face of a society that barely wants to acknowledge you exist and living to fight another day. Many queer men relate to that and it's no wonder queer men have often contributed to Sistahs Cinema. Queer Black men, especially in the last twenty years, often appear in Sistahs Cinema in opposition to or in support of the female protagonist but that's a whole kettle of fish that deserves it's own write up.
Now that we've gone over the history, the rules and the appeal of Sistahs Cinema, here are my top five favorite in the genre. I was delightfully surprised to see that this subgenre is relatively diverse in terms of other genres it falls into. There's a lot of dramas yes, but there's action films, thrillers, musicals, science fiction, historical dramas and plenty of comedies in-between. Some are much better than others and not everything on my list is what I'd call the pinnacle of Sistahs Cinema but they're the ones I personally like the most. Here we go:
The Woman King- This is a newer one but it's already a classic and you'll be seeing this shown in Black beauty palors across the country for the next 40 years. Viola Davis isn't who I immediately think of when I think 'action star' but she's been enough action flicks usually as a non-combative authority figure that I welcomed her finally kicking some ass herself. It's script is very by the numbers but it's kinda like going to a hamburger joint. It's not the flashiest thing in the world but you appreciate it when it's done well. We've seen so many of these story beats and character types before but rarely in a film that centers Black women, so that's nice. I also found it very humorous that the love interest in this film set in West Africa somehow is a light skinned grey eyed pretty boy with loose curls. He's finer than frog hair so I'm not complaining but I can't help but read it this as 'take that' to how often this kind of thing happens to Black women themselves.
Dreamgirls- This is probably one of my favorite movies bar none but it's definitely one of the better contributions to the genre. Beyonce is in rare form giving her truly only great film performance. Jennifer Hudson shows us why she should've won American Idol. The choreography, the costumes, the production design, the editing--it made my baby gay heart sing when I saw it at 14 years old. It's also one of the rare types of these movies where the divisions between the women has much to do interpersonally as professionally, which is a nice change of pace. My only complaint is that Anika Noni Rose doesn't get a lot to do and I wish the part of Lorrell had been beefed up a bit. Go watch her in The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency!
Girlfriends- This one is a show but it's a pretty fundamental piece of the subgenre and it's influenced a lot of media that centers Black women that's been made in the last 20 years. There's often a lot of talk about 'Living Color vs Friends' and really that's not even a discussion, Living Color wins hands down. The real comparison we need to making is Living Color v Girlfriends because they have a lot more in common and I'd argue Girlfriends picked up where Living Color left off. Girlfriends was also a lot more willing to discuss the things that Living Color had most left as subtext, in particular regard to colorism. Also, I'm basically Lynn so of course I have to like this show.
Waiting to Exhale- You all knew it was going to be on this list somewhere. You can't really talk about this subgenre of films *without* discussing Waiting to Exhale. It's not devoid of drama but it's also one of the few works in Sistahs Cinema that doesn't really focus on trauma. The women frequently discuss the relationships in their lives and how it affects them but it's about the bond between the women themselves, their own self worth and their discovery of independence, the men are simply just the vehicle through which the film explores this idea. Some of the women find love at the end, some don't but they realize that they must love themselves first and not invest their entire identities into the men they are with. It has *THE* best soundtrack of the 1990's with tracks from basically every popular Black female recording artist in the mid 90's. It's basically The Avengers of Black songstresses. How none of the songs were nominated for an Oscar I do not know.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever- I was not expecting this to be my to be my favorite in the genre and honestly I didn't even think it counted at first. But when you think about it, the film hits most of the marks. Danai Gurira gets a lot more to do in the sequel and she makes the most out of every scene. Lupita Nyong'o and her personal trainer deserve a shout out because I had body envy the entire time she was onscreen. Leticia Wright in my opinion deserved an Oscar nomination because she manages to take Shuri from essentially comedic relief in the first film to a fully realized character in this film. Angela Bassett acted her entire ass off in this film and reminded us why she's one of the greatest to ever do it. There is not a scene where she's not giving it her all. I really appreciated how the film was centered around women and their pain and the identities that are sometimes thrust upon them because of that pain. Shuri's whole arc is not wanting to be defined by her brother's loss and taking the mantle of Black Panther means both accepting that loss and everything that comes with it. Leticia plays a conflicted woman with a lot bubbling under the surface to absolute perfection. This is also probably the best soundtrack to a film that isn't a musical since Waiting to Exhale and maybe Into the Spider-Verse. Every single song was written expressly for the film and it shows. There's such a level of care taken given towards this film that elevates it beyond just a comic book movie and places it firmly in 'great movie' territory.
Lastly, these are the films I've identified as belonging to this subgenre but let me know what you think. Did I leave something out? Should something be removed? I'd love your input:

2023.09.06 23:50 ThrowAwayC7A2 What is Greek Life and why you should consider it at UAlberta

Disclaimer:
I am a member of a Fraternity on Campus. I am not here representing any group in specific and will attempt to give generalized information. I also will not speak on the specifics of any group on campus, but I am willing to answer generalized questions. I would also ask that before you downvote or head straight to the comments, please read my post; I hope to address some of the stigma around Greek Life.

What is Greek Life?:

Greek Life is the participation and involvement with Greek Letter fraternities and Sororities. They, as groups, are social clubs. A social club is a group of individuals who gather together to socialize. Socialization, in the context of Greek Life, is pursuing Brotherhood or Sisterhood. This answer is a very textbook answer, but in layperson's terms, it's about making solid bonds of friendship. Real friends, not just people you say hi to in class and maybe see outside of class in the hallway. There is also a common emphasis on philanthropy and personal development in all Greek organizations on campus. Each one goes about this in different ways with differing values and priorities when trying to provide value to our community and society.

Why should I consider Greek Life?:

  1. Brotherhood/Sisterhood. It's my personal opinion that many of us have been undervaluing our social life. I frequently see posts here on UAlberta saying they are lonely and are having trouble making friends. Studies have shown we are in a loneliness epidemic. Humans fundamentally are social creatures regardless of whether you are an introvert or extrovert. Studies show human interaction has a positive effect on our mental health. The honest fact is it is harder in today's age to make friends. There are so many factors causing this issue that I could write a whole essay on it; however, for brevity, I will not. Greek Life's fundamental purpose is to encourage real friendship. The kind of friends who, on a moment's notice, would drop what they're doing to help you. When you stop showing up, the type of friends who message you to check on you because they care about you. The kind of friends who show up to your wedding to cheer you on in your future success in life. It is about platonic love for our fellow Brothers and Sisters. That's what Brotherhood means to me, and if that doesn't appeal to you, I don't know how to sell Greek Life.
  2. Volunteering/Philanthropic opportunities. I won't lie and say there are no better options on campus to fulfil this need. I personally am involved in a service-oriented club on campus. However, it's worth mentioning, especially for those who haven't done much volunteer work. The self-fulfilment and satisfaction from helping your fellow humans cannot be understated. Fraternities and Sororities typically host a multitude of fundraising and volunteering events throughout the year, and many have a requirement to commit to doing a certain amount of volunteering a year. This could be the push for some of us less motivated to make the leap and get into it.
  3. Networking. Networking is not just finding jobs but developing a vast network of people you know. Your BrotheSister studying psych may save you when that one psych essay in an optional class gives you grief. Another BrotheSister you gained within your discipline might now be your best study buddy. Also, it's common for Greek Alumni to help active members find jobs. I know many people who have found work through the connections made in Greek Life.
  4. Opportunities to push yourself and find new experiences. This could bundled into Brotherhood/Sisterhood however having a solid friend group to encourage you to try new things is wonderful. Greek Organizations hold many events for their members to do a variety of activities. Maybe its something simple like trying out rock climbing for the first time or going to a Bear's Game. It could also be something more extreme like travelling on summer vacation with you're Brothers/Sisters. Life is meant to be experienced and it can be hard to push your boundaries. Having people there to encourage you to push yourself can really help you make those leaps. You never know what's behind the doors you never opened.

How do I join/get involved?:

Disclaimer: This is a very unique process to each chapter, and I'm not very well versed in sororities so I invite people to give corrections or extra info on this in comments.
  1. Rushing. The initial process is commonly referred to as Rush. Rushing is the act of going out to events held by Sororities/Fraternities to get to know members and for them to get to know you. To find these events, you can look for posters around campus or find any chapter's Instagram you are interested in. A quick Google of UAlberta Fraternities or Sororities should lead you on your way. Rush can be incredibly fun as many events are a great time. There are many different events that are held during Rush; however, each chapter goes about it in different ways. For Fraternities, common ones are hosting dinners/barbeques, Open houses, Parties, and playing sports/games; I can't speak on sororities as a male. I highly encourage you to message their Instagrams asking for information. The process of rushing is meant for you to get a vibe of the chapters on campus and for them to get a vibe of you. I highly recommend checking out multiple groups on campus, as each one has a different culture and ethos. There is a best fit for you, but it's up to you to find it. For the Fall semester, Rush has begun now, but it's far from too late to get involved. You may also find booths for both Sororities and Fraternities at the club fair.
  2. Signing a Bid. Once a Sorority or Fraternity has felt that they got to know you well enough and see you as a good match to become a new member, they will offer you a bid. A bid is a non-legal contract claiming mutual interest. Signing this means you have committed and will stop rushing other chapters on campus. It also means the chapter has committed to moving you onto the next stage of becoming a member.
  3. Becoming a member. After you sign a bid, you typically will go through some kind of initiation process. I can't speak for every chapter on campus, so I will keep this very generalized. Typically, there is a process in which you receive some education on expected behaviour within the organization and it's history. After this, there will often be an event in which you officially become a member. This event is commonly referred to as initiations; however, it may have other names. At this point, you are a member for life as long as you abide by the rules. This is an exhilarating time and is a core memory for me.

Common questions and concerns:

  1. How much time do I need to give? This question can't easily be answered in a general answer. However, chapters can be very understanding. Generally, the mandatory commitment is only a few hours a week. I am a very busy man, but I make time. I believe it's essential to dedicate time for leisure and recreation in our lives. All work, no play, makes my mental health dive. Also, during your time, you can develop many soft skills like public speaking, so it's not necessarily unproductive.
  2. How much does it cost? Another question that can't be answered generally. It should be noted that rushing shouldn't cost you anything except maybe admission to a party. I don't know the minimum and max ranges; generally, it's a few hundred a semester. This cost may seem steep; however, all that money goes towards a budget you have a say in. That money you should see back in returns from skill development, getting to attend events and networking. I'd also like to say if you're interested in moving into the house of your Chapter, room costs are often far lower than anything else near campus. The lower rent itself can pay for your dues if it interests you.
  3. What if I don't like partying or drinking? What if I don't like partying or drinking? Not all chapters on campus throw parties or attend them. Every chapter here has its own unique culture. There are dry organizations on campus where members do not drink during events. There is no requirement to drink, even in the chapters that do party and drink. I have often said I'm not drinking, and nobody has batted an eye. There are also chapters on campus that do not host parties whatsoever. If you want to chill and play games with the boys or have a lowkey time, there is a chapter here for you. You only need to ask some questions and find out.
  4. I heard XYZ did this or that. Firstly, please don't judge all chapters for the actions of one. Every four years, a chapter has almost all new members. Things change very quickly in Greek Life; my current fraternity in the past has been involved in some things I wouldn't stand for. However, an effort made by the actives to recruit men who are upstanding individuals and properly enforced rules has led us to be very different from the past. I will also say the rumour mill is strong in the Greek Community. If you're on the fence about a group of people, I highly recommend that you meet them and judge for yourself.
  5. Will I get hazed? If you don't want to, you will not. I will not lie and say there has not been hazing in the past. If you google UAlberta hazing, there are news articles on the subject. Hazing is not legal nor tolerated at UAlberta. If you experience hazing, don't hesitate to contact the Edmonton Police Service and Student Group Services. I experienced zero hazing during my recruitment process. I know nobody who has admitted to enduring it at UAlberta. Ask the hard questions during rush and clarify that you won't stand for it. If you do this, you will not be hazed.
  6. Am I too old, uncool, wrong ethnicity, gender, identity, etc to join? Absolutely not. Your Chapter should be a safe place for you and you shouldn't be judged on who you are beyond your Character. Be yourself during rush and you should find a group of people you vibe with. Maybe you don't fit in at one chapter but that doesn't mean you won't fit in elsewhere. You don't need to fit a square peg in the circle hole, you deserve to feel accepted and welcomed with your Brothers or Sisters.
  7. Is it like the movies or stuff I see from American Social Media? No, UAlberta Greek Life reflects the current student body at UAlberta. Our Greek Life tends to be far more tame and generally reflects our cultural norms. Greek Life at UAlberta is its own identity shaped by the people who attend UAlberta.

2023.09.06 03:05 micronesiarain Episode 2- "Legends with Messages" 🗣️🤍

Episode 2-
the queens return to the workroom after the first challenge and see the placements from the challenge flashed across a large screen
Nikky: ...oh!
🏁Nikky CF: As we walk into the workroom, the first thing we see is a big ass screen with our placements from the last challenge. And based on my critiques, a bitch was high. Even higher than Micro when she crowned Venetia. But safe? Looking like this?! I smell a stunt, and it's not just Slerna.
Crystal: Yes!
Kami: That's fun to see, I guess?
🏁Kami CF: Just based on how I was feeling during the last challenge, I should be more than happy with being safe. But seeing it laid out in front of you, it really is pushing me to make sure I only go up from here.
Karte: I did not foresee my first time back here being in a furry cat costume, but weirder things have happened.
Slerna: Have they?
Karte: I'm looking at one right now.
Slerna: You know what...
Yuka: Crystal, how are you feeling after the block?
Crystal: So many feelings, so many feelings. I thought there was a great chance that I could've won this week, so to end the week with a block, it was that extra little dig that I needed to step it up even more.
🏁Crystal CF: Karte, that cheeky little bitch. Had I won, I'd be lying if I said blocking Karte wasn't at the top of my list of things to do. So I really can't be too surprised. I guess they really are desperate to send me out as soon as possible. And that's alright, they can keep waiting!
Crystal: But third place isn't a bad spot to start out in!
🏁Moxie CF: Third? I don't want to burst her bubble, but as a nice and loyal friend, it's my responsibility to let her know what actually happened.
Moxie: To be honest, I don't really think you were third, because your runway is one of the weaker ones, and your verse was a little generic.
Crystal: Oh! Um, that is super great to hear. Thank you...for that insightful commentary.
Slerna: I appreciated the nod to your favorite alien queen, but there are some little tweaks we can work out.
Crystal: I'm always trying to grow, so it'll hopefully get better and better.
🏁Angolan CF: I want to go up to Crystal right now and just shake her, and tell her to stand up for herself! I don't know what their history is, but it's painfully obvious that they don't have a real respect for her or her work. She was the first one blocked for a reason, and I need her to see that. There's no reason for her not to shut this down right away.
Zodya: Honestly, analyzing the small little things like third place really won't go anywhere. And we can't let that take away from how killer of a premiere we just had!
Yuka: The energy of being on stage with everyone, and seeing a group of people at the top of their game, it felt like how I thought All Stars would feel like!
🏁Slerna CF: Didn't...didn't she go home really early on All Stars? My mama taught me that 1+1=3, but the math is not adding up here!
Angolan: And Micro made it clear that this is what she's expecting from us now. We can't slip back to how we were on our original seasons. We've all shown that we can perform at a certain level, we need to keep raising the bar.
Kami: And to the girls who came out on top, congratulations! It really set the tone for the season.
Zodya: For real, you made it look like a cake walk.
Moxie: Biting my tongue, biting my tongue.
🏁Karte CF: This win was not one that came easy to me. I had to work all day and all night to get everything done, but it is so beyond worth it. This feels like the first time throughout my run on MDR where I know that what I just delivered is the peak of what I can do. No cutting corners, no playing it safe, I gave you eleganza. And this is only a taste of what I can do. They should be afraid, very afraid.
The Next Day
the queens walk into the workroom and pose as a group in the entrance before moving over to the table
🏁Lisbon CF: We are back in the workroom, and I am stepping in with a win! For so long, it felt like my narrative on MDR was that I was the queen who couldn't grab a win. So to start All Stars and Legends with a win right away, they're gonna have to find something new to hate on me for. But with how nasty they are, I'm sure they'll have something new by the end of the day.
Nikky: This format is not at all what I thought it would be.
Crystal: Oh, at all.
Nikky: Well yes, I just said that!
Angolan: The question becomes, when do we think the first elimination is?
Lisbon: My guess would be next episode, two of us are out of here.
Kami: That would get us down to a final four after nine or so episodes?
Crystal: Whenever it happens, it'll need to be late enough where we've had the time to develop a strong body of work. We need something more to show than just a challenge or two.
Moxie: Meh, it'll happen when it happens. No point in stressing over it.
🏁Moxie CF: I really don't want to hear about the format, or dig into when the eliminations will start. For the girls who got a high placement last week, maybe it's fun to speculate. But the sooner this elimination happens, the less of a chance some of us will have to move up the ranks.
the workroom door swings open and Micro steps in, wearing a chunky sweater with quilted tights and soft curls in her hair
Micro: Hello legends! Gather round, it's time for your next challenge.
🏁Nikky CF: Please be a roast of her outfits, please be a roast of her outfits.
Micro: For the first few challenges here, I want to get a sense of who each of you are, and what makes you...you! So for your next challenge, we're throwing it back to one of my favorite challenges from Season One, as you each write and deliver a PSA about a topic that is near and dear to your heart. And on the runway, category is "Legendary Look", showcasing your signature and legendary drag style. As you all have seen, the competition has never been tighter, so bring your very best. Good luck!
🏁Karte CF: A PSA challenge. Now's the time where I start praying that my work last week is enough to keep me safe. The rush of dopamine from winning the last challenge has faded just enough where I'm maybe a little more in touch with reality. I hated this challenge on Season One, and I hate it now. I tend to think emotions are for ugly people, so this is not an area I feel great about. Why couldn't this just be a challenge about looking the best and everyone just accepting it? Matter of fact, why isn't that the challenge every week? Hmm, I would gobble a little bit.
the queens disperse throughout the workroom to go over the challenge
Karte, Slerna, and Moxie talk by the mirrors, as they discuss the previous challenge
Karte: Moxie, I've known you long enough to know when you're getting in your head. What's happening?
Moxie: Oh, I'm good!
Slerna: I've been on an entirely different planet for most of my life, but even I can tell that you most certainly are not "good" right now.
Moxie: Fine, I'm not feeling great right now. I completely underperformed last week. And hearing everyone talk about when the eliminations will start, or how many people are going home at once, it's not something I want to think about when I'm sitting near the bottom right now.
Karte: Do me a favor, look around the room.
Moxie: ...okay?
Karte: You are most definitely not the queen on the bottom.
Moxie: Yeah, you might be right about that one. But still, it's stressing me out.
Slerna: However you do in the challenges, it all stacks up on top of each other. So you can't be stressing about last week. If you kill it this week, that's all you can do. It'll balance out, and you'll be good.
🏁Slerna CF: The worst part about being here with actual friends is that it brings out this horrible side of myself, where I fear I'm a little too similar to the emotions of a human being. And that is NOT a side of myself that I want to stick around. Gotta shove it right back into my thinker, get back to being the goddess of mystery and jimbles. And do not look up what "jimbles" means. Don't say I didn't warn you!
Karte: I want you here to show everyone what you are capable of. But more than that, I need you here for my own sanity. I won't survive a full season without you here to shit talk with.
Moxie: I'll give it all I have.
Slerna: And then some!!
Moxie: And then some what?
Slerna: I actually am not sure, I've just heard them say that a lot on The Disney Channel. Sorry, it felt like the right thing to say.
Moxie: You know, it was.
🏁Karte CF: The fears I had about this challenge are being pushed to the side because I'm more focused on making sure Moxie crushes it this week. I can see her getting in her head, and I care way too much about her to let that happen. She's the best person here, and I wish she saw that.
Zodya, Angolan, Lisbon, Crystal, and Yuka chat by the table about the challenge
🏁Crystal CF: When you get blocked, your first instinct might be to just give up. No matter what I do, I'm not getting a banjo this week. But fuck that! It makes me want to win this week even more. The chance to show everyone that no matter how hard they try and push me down, I will always rise to the top.
Zodya: Lisbon, you're the only one here to have done this challenge before, we need some pointers.
Lisbon: I'm pretty sure Karte and Nikky did it too.
Zodya: Well, I'm not worried about them right now. I want to hear from you!
🏁Zodya CF: I can see that Karte is feeling shaky about this challenge. Which is unfortunate, but also the perfect chance for me to sneak in and get to the top. She's tough competition, any opportunity to see her struggle, I'd be foolish not to savor it.
Lisbon: Alrighty then! If I can remember correctly, I was violently under-appreciated during this challenge on Season One. One thing Micro talked about wanting was someone to find the perfect balance of emotion, humor, and making it all connect back to you.
Yuka: No way. She wanted people to...do well?! I for one am shocked. Shocked!
Lisbon: I know, how crazy! But yeah, that's what I remember from the challenge when I did it the first time.
🏁Yuka CF: I'm kind of feeling like it might be best for me to go out there, and just speak from the heart. I'm not totally sure what I want to talk about, but hopefully that'll come to me in the moment.
Crystal: I feel like Karte handed me a golden opportunity here. It would be crazy to not make my PSA about this forsaken blocking.
Lisbon: Do you think that's focused in enough on you for it to be completely Crystal?
Crystal: That should be the title of my perfume, I like the sound of that! I think this will work out. I'm known for being a fierce competitor, even when obstacles are thrown my way. The blocking is another hurdle for me to jump over, and I think I can loop it all back to be a message of always pushing through and not giving up on yourself.
Lisbon: That sounds more like it!
Angolan: Seeing all of you in the challenge, it felt so natural and like it all just came right back to you. But I can feel the effects of being away for so long. And I'm not entirely sure what my brand is? Or at least, what others perceive my brand to be?
🏁Angolan CF: Everyone here has been able to easily slip back into competition mode, and get back to where they were the last time they were here. But it's been so long for me, I'm feeling like I need to really go above and beyond when it comes to reintroducing myself. Call me crazy, call me wild, but I think it might be time for me to let loose a little bit, and give everyone the Angolan experience.
Kami and Nikky sit on the couch and go over ideas for the challenge
Nikky: So...tell me everything you have planned!
Kami: I think it only makes sense for me to talk about a topic that is such a big part of who I am. How to serve cunt in a god honoring way.
Nikky: Girl, stealing my idea?!
Kami: Wait, for real?
Nikky: No bitch, my idea is way better!
Kami: Let's hear it.
Nikky: Somehow, I was safe last week. I still think it was because Micro is a drunk, but we move forward. But this week is now or never for me, I need to win sooooo bad. So I'll be talking about depression.
Kami: Oh?
Nikky: Whenever I compete, my main goal is honestly just to be taken seriously. And I know I'm the first one to act a fool and mess around, but I think it's time to show a new side of myself.
Kami: Why do you think people don't take you seriously?
Nikky: It's really hard for people to wrap their heads around the idea of someone being this funny, but also being real, and having a fat ass on top of it all. They don't understand that this type of goddess exists.
🏁Nikky CF: There's nothing I want more than to win this week. I've done well in this type of challenge before, but it won't be enough to just share a story like this. I need to make this a moment that will blow the judges away.
Kami: Well now I feel weird about my idea.
Nikky: No, it'll be cute! We need some people to bring the laughs.
Kami: I'm just feeling like now might not be the time to keep things on a surface level. It's...uncomfortable for me to expose certain sides of me, but that's what this challenge seems to require.
Nikky: Do you have any ideas that you could switch to?
Kami: Whew, I really did not think I'd be bringing this up here.
Nikky: I got you, you're good.
Kami: Um, I touched on this briefly during Season Five, but something that means a lot to me is being vocal about sexual abuse awareness, and how that can change the way people function for the rest of their lives.
Nikky: Oh, Kami.
Kami: And when something directly happens to you, it's hard for it all not to feel amplified, in a way that is beyond what you could ever imagine.
Nikky: I'm so sorry.
Kami: It is the biggest betrayal you can feel. To feel like you have people you can trust, and people who should be protecting you. And then those same people are the ones to take advantage of you. It's something I don't know if I'll ever get over. Which maybe can be a positive, because I've learned so much about myself. But I can't even begin to tell you the amount of times I just wish I could forget about all of it, and pretend that nothing ever happened.
Nikky begins to tear up, prompting Kami to break down into tears, getting the attention of the other queens, causing them to gather around her
Zodya: Is everything good?
Nikky: Yeah, I just don't know if Kami wants to talk about all of this right now.
Karte: About what?
Kami: It's...it's nothing. Well, it's something. And I'm ready to open up about it for this challenge.
Nikky looks at the other queens, giving them eye contact that clearly communicates the sensitivity of the topic
Crystal: Just know that we love you, and we're here for you. No matter what you share, or what you've gone through, I could not be any happier to have you here right now.
Zodya: You're family. We're your family here. A dysfunctional family, but we're family.
Kami: Thanks everyone. It means more to me than I really know how to express.
🏁Kami CF: I feel cloaked in love right now, there's no other way to describe it. We can get catty, and we can fight like we want to kill each other. But this really is a sisterhood, and the strength I need for this type of challenge, I'm pulling all of it from them and the support they're giving me. I'm ready.
Runway
a pale pink glow illuminates the stage as a cloud of fog envelops the entrance, before Micro breaks through and struts down the center
Micro Episode 2 Look
Micro: Welcome back to the runway of Micro's Drag Race: Legends! Tonight, the queens were asked to prepare a PSA that speaks to them and what they stand for. And for those who might not know, PSA stands for Public Service Announcement. Trust me, I maybe needed to google that one for myself! And joining me on the judging panel tonight is one of the most gorgeous and articulate queens to ever grace this stage. You may know her as "Love Skylar" from her last time competing here, but she is now the new and improved, and always incredible, Iris Eternal!
Iris Guest Judging Look
Micro: Iris, thank you for being here!
Iris: With an introduction like that, I'll come back as many times as you want!
Micro: You have always used your drag to speak on issues that are important to you. Why do you think that's so important?
Iris: Drag is so much deeper than just turning a look, but trust, I can do that too! You need to have a foundation that supports you, and pushes you to spread your message. When I have a platform like this, it's my responsibility to speak my truth, and fight for what's right!
Micro: Cause if you don't stand for something...
Iris: You will fall for anything!
Micro: That's right! You ready to get into some fashion?
Iris: Oh yes, the reading glasses are on!
Micro: Category is..."Legendary Look", showing off their signature styles!
"Bad Juju" by Jujubee plays
Angolan: I have evolved a LOT over these years and my drag now is more exciting than its ever been before. I always want to stand out and challenge fashion + gender norms, which is what this look represents. My drag is crazy, sexy, and VIBRANT! Stimulating and controversial looks are what make me, me!
Angolan Look
Crystal: Is this branding??? Yes it is! I always wear blue and I'm thinking...let's continue! I am repping my XDRvTW crown that was bestowed upon me to show that even when I'm blocked...looks karte up and down I am still a winner! These boots were definitely made for walking and thats just what ill do, today I'm gonna walk all over you! Anyway! I'm giving aroured queen with spiky accents which are a nod to my girlgroup verse when I didnt mean too. But this hair holds the crown so well...the colour is right...she is poised. I'm ready to conquer!
Crystal Look
Kami: I consider my signature style to be ever-changing, as I never want to just limit myself to a certain style, but if I had to say something it would definitely be cuntress, sleek, and glam. I think my look tonight perfectly encapsulates all three of those, and it has a sort of mysterious intrigue that I always want to draw out of people when they think of my looks.
Kami Look
Karte: Say hello to Miss KARTE! Tonight on the runway, I wanted to show my signature mini-dress overcoat combo. The concept for this look is based around the fact that I’m an art queen, known for the classic features that my character Sissy Fryna has. So I incorporated those iconic aspects into my outfit as jewelry all over the outfit. Furthering that concept, I am wearing this long and heavy canvas shawl with paint of the primary colors splattered all over it. Clock the fascinator, what comes after the K? ARTE.
Karte Look
Lisbon: I’m serving some like demonic camp moment, very religious undertones for sure. My style is like of editorial and camp had a meth baby and it’s like super hot. I’m serving Necronomicon bitch and like, I’m fierce but y’all already knew.
Lisbon Look
Moxie: For my signature runway, I'm going back to my ROOTS. just kidding I'm a bottle blonde plant. I'm truly hitting the land of simple and camp, while pushing that ever hovering elevation that Micro expects from her most legendary legends. Also I think Harry Styles sang a song about my look or whatever.
Moxie Look
Nikky: As I’m officially starting my fashion school era, my style has changed to be way more high fashion, more fashion forward, looking more of the references, seeing the brands and the small details that I usually wouldn’t, actually tell the difference between silver and blue! There’s no more old Nikky that would find a basic look and be delulu that I look cunt in it, as I strut and take off my glasses I pose with this look fully covered in feathers and black and white but then I take off the jacket and reveal this beautiful top, couture, high fashion, I can hear the applause, I can hear Anna Wintour shaking her bob as she saw me, my biggest dream is to have my own collection, and if I did it, this style would definitely be in it!
Nikky Look
Nikky Reveal 1
Nikky Reveal 2
Slerna: Slerna arrives at the runway looking good enough to eat, and maybe a little bit crazy. She walks with the giant unravelled waffle cone on her back, and it almost gets stuck in the door as she walks, but she makes it through. Slerna walks happily, making sure she doesn’t trip on her gown. She holds the scoop in her hand, acting as though she’s scooping down her pigtails.
Slerna: This week for my signature look, I’m looking sweeter than EVER! I’m decked out in the most ice creamy look I can. Everything I’m wearing is decorated in colourful glossy buttons I look like I’m melting, but really I’m just making you melt for me!
Slerna poses down the runway, laughing maniacally and licking her icecream scoop, and touching her curves. She serves always, Boohoo bitches!
Slerna Look
Yuka: For my Runway this is so Yuka! It’s an interesting design, using the cafe and the flowing fabrics, it’s bright and vibrant, and it has the slightest touch of camp ever. I’m a legend baby! I gotta have legendary Drag!
Yuka Look
Zodya: For this runway, I am taking a twist on the name of the runway theme. You see, one of my favorite games is League of Legends (I'm a degenerate, we know), and one of the categories of champion skins in the game are, you guessed it, legendary skins. With this, I decided to take inspiration from one of my favorite all time legendary skins, Spirit Blossom Ahri! I'm living my dreamscape kitsune fantasy as I am beaming in shades of pink and turquoise. Feast your eyes on this beauty, because I know you shall surely be charmed!

Critiques
Micro: Another week, another fantastic showing from each of you. It's time for your critiques.
Read the critiques here!
Micro: Thank you ladies. While Iris and I deliberate, you may all head back to Untucked.
Iris: And bring me a snack when you come back. You still got those little sandwiches?!
Untucked
the queens enter Untucked
Nikky: What a feeling!!
🏁Nikky CF: Again, Micro isn't making it easy with giving everyone positive critiques. But tonight, some people got positive feedback, and some people got POSITIVE feedback. This feels like it will be my week, yes bitch!!
Nikky: You all can line up by the wall to tell me why I shouldn't block you. I probably will ignore whatever you say, but you can try and convince me!
Crystal: Someone got a taste of the good critiques.
Nikky: I can only imagine this is how Sasha Colby felt after every challenge.
🏁Karte CF: #JusticeForMistress!
Kami: You crushed it tonight.
Nikky: Thank you sister. Hoping it's us in the top this week!!
🏁Moxie CF: Nikky was cute this week, it was sweet. But she is feeling very sure of herself, and is convinced she blew us out of the water here. But I wouldn't be so sure about that!
Angolan: Crystal, are you feeling like that block might hit tonight?
Crystal: I mean...I wouldn't be too surprised! It sucks that I won't get a banjo either way, but a win is a win.
🏁Nikky CF: I think Crystal needs to worry less about a win, and more about hoping for a high this week. We all have our rough spots!
Yuka: I think we all know where that block would land if that's what happens.
Karte: Cheers!
Crystal: Actually, I don't think I would block Karte. Too predictable.
Yuka: Well, you need to settle the score first, and then you can be all congenial.
🏁Yuka CF: All I'm saying is that if you block me, I will block you every chance I get.
Slerna: Meh, I knew Karte could find a way to get out of this. All squishy, slithering in and out. Mmyeah.
🏁Slerna CF: Sometimes...I don't really understand how words work. But then I remember how fun I am, and it would be tragic if I didn't insert my little quips. Maybe I can put them on a shirt. How adorable would that be?
Zodya: Kami, I have to applaud you for being so vulnerable tonight.
Kami: Thanks Zodya.
Lisbon: It's one thing to just open up like that, but it's another to do it in a way that is so powerful and beautifully said.
Slerna: It really was special.
Kami: Thanks everyone. It felt good to get it all out there!
the queens return to the runway
Micro: Welcome back queens! Based on your performances in the challenge, I've made some decisions. When I call your name, please step forward.
Micro: Angolan, Lisbon, Yuka. The three of you...are safe. You may step to the back of the stage.
🏁Yuka CF: Only queen to be safe both weeks, I think that means I'm winning! Right?
Micro: The rest of you represent the best and brightest of the week.
🏁Nikky CF: I have so many emotions right now. I'm either about to win, or punch Micro in the face.
Micro: But two of you really stepped up and showed out.
...
...
Micro: Kami and Moxie. Congratulations, you are the top two queens of the week, and have each won a "Golden Banjo™️"!
the life from Nikky's face fades away as the other queens celebrate around her
🏁Nikky CF: Um...no!
Kami: Ahh!!
🏁Kami CF: It is the most satisfying feeling to win this week. And this means I've officially won the second episode on every season I've done. That's weird, right? New lucky number!
🏁Moxie CF: Yes!! I am on the board, now I just need to keep up the momentum.
Micro: The rest of you may step to the back of the stage.
Micro: Kami, Moxie. You ready?
Kami Lipsync Look
Moxie Lipsync Look
Micro: Prior to tonight, you were asked to prepare a lipsync performance of "Hummingbird Heartbeat" by Katy Perry.
https://youtu.be/7WcDRjR7qL8
Micro: This is your chance to impress me, and secure the power to block one of the other queens from receiving a "Golden Banjo™️" next week.
🏁Kami CF: I came into this week feeling like I was near the bottom of the pack. Winning this week gives me a chance to seriously flip the competition around.
🏁Moxie CF: We don't know what's coming up in this competition. Something as small as winning this lipsync could be what gives me the edge to stay here and make it to the end.
Micro: Good luck, and don't fuck it up!
Read the lipsync here!
Micro: Yes ma'am! Another incredible lipsync. I've made my decision.
...
...
Micro: Moxie Valor, you're a winner, baby!
🏁Moxie CF: Muahaha, the power is mine! Sorry Kami, very few queens make it out alive from a lipsync against me.
Micro: Kami, you are safe to slay another day.
Kami: Thank you so much. Congrats girl!
Micro: Will all of the queens please step forward.
the queens step to the front of the stage as Moxie looks down the line with a devious smile
Micro: Moxie. As the winner of this lipsync, you've earned the power to block one queen from winning a "Golden Banjo™️" next week. Have you made your decision?
Moxie: I have. I have a lot of respect for this queen, but I have to look at who has the most drive and passion, and my first pick is also ineligible right now. So with that being said, I've chosen to block...Yuka.
🏁Yuka CF: That's certainly a choice! I know that I'm a strong competitor, and I can't say that this is a bad decision. But I've been safe both weeks. There are bigger fish to fry!
Micro: Yuka. I'm sorry, but that means you are unable to win a "Golden Banjo™️" next week.
Yuka: Womp womp.
Micro: Before we wrap things up, there's one more thing we need to take care of.
Micro: The ten of you have been performing incredibly so far. But this is a competition, and this moment was inevitable. The first elimination of the season is happening right now.
🏁Lisbon CF: We knew this moment was coming, but none of us could have expected it so early. We're all confused right now, and Slerna is even more confused than usual.
🏁Slerna CF: Me want banjo, me want it now!!
Micro: Will the following queens please step forward. Kami, Karte, Lisbon, Moxie. As the queens with the most banjos, you are all immune from elimination.
🏁Kami CF: Not only am I not being eliminated first, it's not even an option! Whew, I made it through!
Micro: For the rest of you, you are eligible for elimination. And tonight, two queens will be leaving us.
🏁Crystal CF: Two queens?! Yeah, it's getting real. I'm only moderately terrified right now. Scratch that, I'm extremely terrified!
Micro: When I call your name, please step forward. And this is in no particular order.
Micro: Slerna. Zodya. Angolan.
the queens nervously move forward, as terrified as the queens who weren't called
Micro: The three of you...are safe.
Angolan: You're kidding...
Crystal: Oh my god.
🏁Crystal CF: The names of the safe queens are called, and called again...and again. And Micro isn't saying my name. I am staring directly at the worst possible outcome.
Micro: Will the safe queens please step to the back of the stage.
🏁Angolan CF: I'm feeling like I avoided elimination by the tiniest margin. Being in this position again, it's not even an option.
Micro: Crystal, Nikky, Yuka. Sadly, two of you will be leaving us tonight.
🏁Nikky CF: I know the first challenge wasn't my best. But I put my heart and soul into this challenge, and I think it's enough to save me. I came here with something to prove, and making it past this first cut, it's all I want right now.
🏁Yuka CF: Up against these two, I'm feeling like my fate has been sealed. But deep down, I'm just wishing and hoping that there's a chance for me to stay.
Micro: The queen safe from elimination is...
...
the camera pans past each queen, showing a single tear fall down Nikky's face
...
Micro: Crystal Waterz.
Crystal: Oh thank god.
Crystal falls to her knees as Nikky and Yuka look over at the other
Micro: Nikky Fox, Yuka Havanother. I'm sorry, but that means your journey here has come to an end.
🏁Nikky CF: Can we not do this right now? I don't know if I can talk about this right now. I'm...gutted right now. Oh my god, this is it. I waited so long for this, and wanted it so badly. And now it's over. I'm sorry, I need to step away for a moment.
🏁Yuka CF: And with that, my time here has come to an end. I came back for redemption. And though my placement might say otherwise, I really feel like I got to show a new side of myself this time. No regrets.
Micro: Your time here is over...for now.
Nikky: Please Micro.
Micro: Each week, the eliminated queens will be showing off their runway looks in the "Legendary Fame Games". And the winner of this side competition will walk away with one month of Discord Nitro.
🏁Nikky CF: Yes!! There's still a chance for me. Not the chance I was wanting, but it's the one I need right now. I will be your winner!
Micro: For now, I must sadly ask you two to sashay away.
Yuka: Thank you for this opportunity, I had a blast.
Nikky: Bitch, I'm not saying goodbye. You'll see me again!!
the queens clap for Nikky and Yuka as they exit the stage
Micro: Whew, that was so much harder than I expected. But eight queens remain! The eliminations will only get harder, so stay at the top of your game. Now, let the music play!
"Banjo" by Bebe Zahara Benet plays
Next Time on Micro's Drag Race: Legends
Micro: This week, we are honoring past MDR challenges with your own unique designs!
🏁Moxie CF: This feels like a coordinated attack against me...
🏁Zodya CF: I'm gunning for you, watch your back.
Tiwa: Truly, one of the most spectacular things to ever touch this stage.

Hi I'm a Mj I hope you enjoy this poem I also have a account on Wattpad called mjs_writings please go check it out if you enjoy this poem

Discription:This poem is about the struggles and difficulties about being a woman.
💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
In a world where strength is often tested, Where women face troubles, often wrested, Let me share a poem, a solemn verse, To shed light on the difficulties we traverse.
For being a woman is not always smooth, A battle fought daily, the weight we prove, Discrimination, an unyielding foe, We fight for respect, a rightful glow.
We stand tall against catcalling's disgrace, Unwelcome whispers and intrusive embrace, Our voices, our bodies, not up for display, We rise above objectification's sway.
In workplaces, glass ceilings we encounter, Striving for dreams, our aspirations soar, Competence disregarded, undermined, Yet we forge on, determination defined.
Our bodies, vessels of strength and grace, Used, exploited, a painful embrace, But we reclaim ownership, demand respect, For we are warriors, our worth untect.
For every hardship, a sisterhood found, Supporting each other, united, tightly bound, Together we rise, empowering the rest, Breaking the chains, with passion we invest.
In these lines, I hope you find solace, A reminder that strength is embedded in us, For the difficulties we face only make us strong, And our resilience, a testament unsung.
So, let us stand together, fierce and proud, In a world that challenges us, unbowed, For women's worth is measured, vast and true, And through it all, we rise, me and you.

FAQ

I live in Colombia/Canada/Cuba/USA, why are you posting on a Saturday?!
Because I'm writing this from Europe in the future where it's already Sunday. Timezones be crazy.
Why are there a bunch of non-board games in the board game list?
Because the Tabletop games category on Kickstarter includes anything remotely related to board games and sometimes things slip through my filters.
Why is this future award winning board game and literal saviour of humanity missing from your list?
Sometimes my filters get a bit overzealous and discard actually valid projects. If you feel something is missing for this reason, leave a comment and I'll add it (maybe).
Can I donate all my money to you?
No
Can you help me promote my game?
Please no. I make lists. Nothing more.
Your list is full of errors and now my computer is making a weird noise!
Indeed, this fine piece of code runs purely on single malt whisky, so anything can happen. Leave a comment and I'll see what I can do.
