"When did you last speak with her?"
P14 Gordon asks Diane about her half sister Jane. 'speak' -- Peaks. Shortly before that, Albert told Tammy about Lois Duffy and mentioned that she did not have a twin sister (Tammy said 'conjured' alt 'conjoined;' an alt version of Duffys are twins? link to 'doubleheader in Vegas?'); so we have twin & alt 'speak' mentioned close together (alt 'Twin Peaks'). Twin alt 'twine' - Diane on the chair, alt bound like Laura was in the cabin? Finley's 'Fine' Twine, alt 'fair' city. The FBI room is alt Jacque's cabin? Gordon alt Jacques (alt Cousteau, alt team on underwater expedition, 'before I came up'), Albert alt Leo, Tammy alt Ronette. A couple times the trio were waiting for Diane to arrive ("Diane's on her way" P12 and P14), alt trio by the Corvette waiting for Laura; Diane when she came in talked about Cooper returning and raping her, Cooper is alt James and she's alt Laura? (visual with Cooper kissing Diane). So Diane & Cooper blend into the roles of James & Laura, FBI team alt the trio on the night of Laura's death. Gordon alt Jacques - 'high school sandwich,' P9 Gordon stands between Tammy and Diane, alt they are smoking outside the HS, Bill a HS principal is questioned in the next scene, Bobby linked directly to the TP HS in the previous scene, Lucy was just eating a giant sandwich; conference room alt a teacher's lounge, grown up Bobby alt the assistant principal (alt Betty) the assistant to Bill? Frank alt the principal? his office alt the principal's office? and a link between Bill Hastings and Frank Truman? more below.
FBI trio alt trio of Jacques (Gordon), Leo (Albert) & Ronette (Tammy). Waiting for Laura alt Diane 'on her way'; Diane sits on the chair alt 'bound' like Laura.
"The boys found this, on the floor in back of the Caddy."
Mulholland Dr., Detective Neal Domgaard played by Brent Briscoe (Dave Macklay) - his boys found a pearl earring inside the Cadillac at the scene of the car accident, belonging to Rita/Camilla. P1, Detectives Harrison and Macklay arrive to the Hastings home with 'the boys' and search Bill's house and car. Phyllis is not happy about it, turns to look inside and we get a long look at her pearl earring {Phyllis alt Rita? killed at her home, alt from the hit in MD; MrC alt the hitman "you did good...you follow human nature perfectly" cryptic comment, similar to Joe at Winkie's "when it's finished you'll find this where I told you."}. The other detective in MD, Harry McKnight, played by Forster (Frank Truman). P5 Frank's wife Doris storms into Hawk's office and complains and berates Frank about various issues at the house, she's alt Phyllis, Frank alt the husband? (in Bill's spot, see above). Macklay says that he knows Bill from high school alt Frank/Forster, his former partner whose prints were found at the crime scene and who he interrogates in P1? (Dave alt 'Neal Macklay'). Mack said Bill's prints were 'all over' Ruth's apartment. P9 Frank is given Garland's 'tube' by Betty, he touches all around it looking for a seam or button to open it (P11 Frank also touches Hawk's map, which had been rolled up like the notes inside the tube). 'Garland's tube' alt to 'Ruth's apartment?' Former contains two notes, latter contained two partial bodies. Officers Olson and Douglas P1 needed help getting into Ruth's apartment, had to go back outside to find maintenance man Hank, alt Frank & Hawk need Bobby's help to open the tube, had to go back outside; an alt version of Bobby, maintenance man at the station? So [Garland's tube] is alt to [Ruth's apartment] (two rolled up notes inside the tube alt bodies; Hawk's map also was rolled up, alt a body? Frank touches it, link to P17 Cooper to Frank "don't touch that body!"). In MD, there's another Ruth (Elms), the girls stay at her apartment and bring back another strange device that opens like the tube - the blue box. Betty, like Frank and the tube touches it all over (a different Betty gave Frank the tube) (maps - Betty & Rita look at a map before going to Sierra Bonita alt Frank & Hawk looking at the map before going to Jack Rabbit's, both scenarios involve long walks leading to bodies - the corpse or Naido; alt - Naido is a map? ("she's alive" alt to Hawk's map being a 'living entity') merges with MrC at death in P17 ("don't touch that body!") (who was also at the same site where Naido was found in P17, before he went to the station) going backwards into the story (like getting rolled back up into a 'map'; alt a rug, Frank Lebowski alt).
Garland's 'tube' alt the blue box in MD. Frank touches it all over link to prints all over Ruth's apartment.
What's inside the blue box? We see a black void, link to the black symbol on Hawk's map? (might be alt Judy's, where Cooper goes P18, alt he was following the map, curiosity alt 'Caddy?' version where he arrives in a Cadillac in place of the Lincoln Towncar (link to the Chevy dealership P5); link to Blue Velvet, Kyle's character was just 'really curious;' killed the cat, Judy alt a cat? black?). Alt - the blue box was found by Macklay's boys at the crime scene (in MD the box ends up in Ruth's apartment and in P1 the crime scene is also in a Ruth's apartment); scenario where Macklay has it but can't open it? P1 Constance running prints at her computer, monitor black and blue background alt it's the box itself? (Rita's fingers alt Constance's in the POV shot) (the box also analyzes things? link to the glass box in the same part, [computer processing softly] in captions, Tammy is paired with Macklay P11 brining coffee and donuts, alt Tracey with Sam, Mack has the box alt Sam and the glass box; computeequipment also linked to the FBI's hotel room, inside of Diane's purse POV alt inside the box; inside/out in flux?). Constance, besides running analyses, holds Garland's body, alt there's a body inside the box? (layer collapses - with no Constance, the box itself = a body? link to Betty vanishing in a collapsed layer? corresponds with Frank finding the tube, no Betty? maybe merged with Hawk, alt finding the tube inside something in place of the pages). Rita opens the box in MD - numerous parallels between her and Cooper from the perspective of Watts (Betty or Janey-E), alt it's who Cooper opens it? (Pilot: Cooper and Harry in the conference room try to open Laura's diary, which was hidden in her bedroom alt the box hidden in Ruth's bedroom closet, but no key for the diary, so Dale just breaks its open, link to P9 and the tube which they couldn't open. Opening the box sends him to Judy's (possible link to the map symbol) and combines his 'head' with Garland's body? He wakes up at the hospital in Las Vegas (female doctor alt Constance overseeing Garland's body in Buckhorn) ('Headley' alt to 'Macklay?' LV vs Buckhorn versions; Headly signifies a 'head' level of the story? Mack signifies a 'truck' level, or world? world of truck 'drivers' alt doppelgangers? Cooper P2 looks out of the red room and sees his doppelganger (who is 'in Buckhorn') driving, alt a truck).
Two mountain peaks behind clouds in P5 alt Blue Pine Mountain & White Tail Peak? The cross symbol alt the Chevy logo. Cooper P18 alt driving (in 'Caddy' in place of Towncar) looking for Judy's alt black symbol on the map.
Blue box alt Constance's computer; black and blue. Macklay alt has the box from the crime scene.
Summary: Macklay (alt Neal) and his boys find the box at the crime scene from P1, old partner's prints (alt Frank) are on it, Cooper (alt Lt Knox) arrives to investigate and alt to him and Harry in S1 and the diary in the conference room (and link to Hawk's map and the 'Judy' symbol also in the conference room), he opens it using force, transports him to a world where he's the 'head' that combines with someone else's body (which was inside or represented by the box). Since Ruth Davenport's head is combined with Garland's body in P1, is Cooper is alt 'Ruth?' [Both Ruths are red haired like Lt Knox (also like Linney James who walked down the hallway at Universal Studios like Cindy Knox at the morgue in Buckhorn), alt Cooper in her spot who was sent by Gordon alt Col Davis?]. Ruth link to 'Roth' (Tim)? Hutch in P9 parallels the maintenance man Hank in P1 (both have mystery bags and stand by trucks); maintenance man also alt Bobby who broke open the box outside with force alt using tools, in place of Dale in the conference room forcing open the diary. {P5 Doris "I told you this!" link to 'Soulja Boy I told you' (soak link), Crank That; next scene P5 a boy Sonny Jim alt Soulja (dance link to Teach Me How To Dougie); Cooper P4 alt a maintenance man in the Jones kitchen fixing something? links between Briggs and Jones houses (visual 1 and visual 2); Garland mentions his soul when he went to the white lodge, returns home in S2 parallel to Cooper P18. So 'soul' linked to the Jones house and Cooper's presence there, alt Ruth/Roth}. Alt to a simple head & body (opener of box and box) - soul and body? Or soul and mind? Alt - a golden box represents a soul? (close to the cardboard box in P11?). Box or cube alt to the spherical 'seed?' The vehicle (shape like box or tube) represents a physical body, inside it (alt an apartment) or merged with the soul; which is 'opened' by a 'mind'? P17 - Gordon says that Jeffries was on to Judy (alt looking the place indicated by the black symbol on the map) and that Garland and Cooper were also onto Judy. Jeffries no longer exists, at least not in the normal sense, alt he lost his mind? Cooper takes over as the 'mind' (or alt curiosity) who combines with the soul (Garland) to continue the quest for Judy? A story with Cooper alt Roth, literal maintenance man, fixes something in the Jones house/kitchen (link to Hawk stopping by to check in on and help Sarah who is a widow), has or acquires the soul of her late husband? 'Mend' (to repair) alt 'mind'; Cooper following in the footsteps of Jeffries, literal repair man in the body of Roth/Hutch alt 'apartment' of Ruth ('story' alt body; two stories alluded to by Charlie, link to "3 bodies?" Lorraine, alt 3 stories?). Summary 2: repair main has or acquires the soul of late husband, falls in love with a widow, named Judy? Flip side: curiosity killed the cat, named Judy, black cat? (alt the bum in MD?) Like a black trap that a curious person falls into; alt scenario - Cooper (alt Jeffery, in BV?) digs up dirt on the girl he's falling for, which ends up killing the romance? Link to Diane in S3 "none of your fucking business" she's alt Sandy if the romance with Jeffery didn't pan out.
Hallway walks, Lt Knox parallels Linney James.
-P9 outside in the parking lot Bobby throws the tube against the ground, police cars blue and black in the lot link, to the blue box in MD (black void inside), 'throwing' link to the Mitchums (Bradley doesn't trust that rat fuck Anthony as far as he can throw a car), Frank & Hawk alt the brothers who can't open the box; Candie alt Bobby their sidekick, link to Castigliane Brother; Bobby alt or 'Bobby Mitchum?' (brothers Brad & Rod, B & R, alt Betty and Rita?). Mitchums place P10, has pool alt to Adam's house on MD, alt they have the blue box or something similaalt and can't open it? (gold box? similar to the cardboard box Cooper brings P11, alt he's the tool man who helps them open it).
Mitchum brothers alt Frank & Hawk; or alt 'Bobby Mitchum' opens the device (alt a box), Brad & Rod, B & R, alt Betty & Rita? Cooper P11 brings the cardboard box and it's opened, alt helps them open a box?
-P9, Dave Macklay walks at the morgue and tells Albert details around the body (alt Gerard walks with Cooper), says Ruth's head was 'atop' the body of Major Briggs. 'atop' alt stop, link to Richard, alt Richard and Linda as the body & head? Richard and Linda - 'ra' and 'la' missing a 'u' to make 'Laura?' alt version where Laura is found dead in bed in her room? Pete finds corpse in the Pilot, alt he's her younger brother? "oh dear" calls the sheriff etc. parents not home, on road trip alt Gordon (alt Garland) and Diane (alt wife Betty) traveling P9 ("is it alright if we make a short trip to Buckhorn"), daughter alt 'Laura Briggs?' The 'U' - link to Silver Mustang? (casino logo is a horseshoe, U). P5, Lucy 7 Insurance L/R with 'u' (alt casino - transition P5 from agency to casino; Mitchum Brothers MB alt Bushnell Mullins BM), with a conference room alt the station P4 (Laura's case evidence spread out). Conference room links to bedroom - rolled up map alt rug in Ruth's, where Dale opens the diary (and where the tube is not opened) alt the blue box.

2024.05.13 16:14 Leather_Focus_6535 The currently 124 offenders executed by the state of Oklahoma since the 1970s (warning, graphic content, please read at your own risk) [part 1, cases 1-62]

This is the list that I wrote for Oklahoma's execution roster since the nationwide reinstatement of capital punishment in the late 1970s. Something that should be mentioned is that given the nature of many death penalty related crimes, many of the descriptions contain very disturbing details. Please read at your own risk.
Florida's list is next, and I'll post my list for Texas once I've completed it. With Texas, I've currently finished 464 entries out of the 587 cases to date. That will probably take 7 or 8 posts for it all to be released, so I'll probably do two posts a day with Texas to avoid spamming the sub. At the end of this year, I'll repost the states that have conducted further executions with the updated information.
As with Missouri and Virginia, Reddit's maximum character count limitations forced me to divide Oklahoma's list into two separate parts. Here is the link to part 2.
The currently 124 executed offenders, cases 1 to 62:
1. Charles Coleman (~1950s-1990, lethal injection): A month after he was released on parole in 1979, Coleman broke into a house. While sacking it for any valuables, the homeowner’s brother and sister in law, 68 year old John and 62 year old Roxie Seward, walked in on him and were both shot dead. Coleman stole Roxie’s purse, several packets of frozen meat, and the homeowner’s watch during the burglary, and was arrested shortly afterwards. However, Coleman managed to escape custody, and went on a rampage that involved several burglaries, auto thefts, slitting the throat of a policeman in a failed murder attempt, the shooting death of 49 year old Russell Lewis Jr. in a carjacking, and the abduction of a deputy. The kidnapped deputy was rescued following an armed standoff with other police officers. Coleman had an extensive history of animal cruelty, armed robberies, assaults, and carrying concealed weapons convictions dating back to when he was 11 years old. He was also heavily suspected in the murder of his teenage girlfriend’s father, but was acquitted by the courts despite the prosecution’s strong belief in his guilt.
2. Robyn Parks (1977-1992, lethal injection): During a gas station robbery, Parks shot and killed Abdullah Ibrahim, a 24 year old Bangladeshi immigrant that worked as the attendant. According to Parks, he murdered Ibrahim for catching him using a stolen credit card.
3. Olan Randle (1980-1992, lethal injection): Randle invaded a home and shot the occupants, 41 year old Robert Swinford, Sinford's fiance 42 year old Averil Bourque, and Bourque's friend 38 year old Julia Lovejoy, dead. He took a pocket knife and several watches from the victims.
4. Thomas Grasso (~1970s(?)-1995, lethal injection): While living in Oklahoma, Grasso strangled 87 year old Hilda Johnson, the best friend of his girlfriend's grandmother, to death with her Christmas lights. He took $8 from her purse, several coins that added up to $4, and a television set that he sold for $125. Grasso then moved to New York, and strangled 81 year old Leslie Holtz for his social security check. The trialing arrangements caused some controversy, as the New York governors at the time were anti death penalty, and tried to prevent Grasso's extradition in favor of giving him a life sentence in their jurisdiction. Grasso had several previous convictions for theft and was fired multiple times for stealing from his jobs.
5. Roger Stafford (~1974(?)-1995, lethal injection): Stafford was condemned for killing at least 9 people in two separate robbery incidents with his brother and ex wife, though his ex wife claimed that he was involved with as many as 34 murders nationwide. The first convicted incident was when he and the ex wife carjacked and fatally shot a couple, 38 year old Melvin and 31 year old Linda Lorenz, and their son, 12 year old Richard. A few weeks after the Lorenz murders, Stafford stormed a restaurant and gunned down 6 employees, 56 year old Isaac Freeman, 43 year old Louis Zacarias, 17 year old Anthony Tew, 17 year old David Lindsey, 16 year old David Salsman, and 15 year old Terri Horst. One of Stafford's additional attributed victims was 20 year old Jimmy Berry, who was killed in the hold up of an Alabaman McDonalds, but he wasn't charged by the state due to his death sentences in Oklahoma.
6. Robert Brecheen (1983-1995, lethal injection): Breechen was involved in a feud over money with 59 year old Mary Stubbs and her husband. In an attempt to take what he perceived was owed to him, Breechen carried out a night time burglary of their home. While rummaging through the house, Breechen stumbled upon old Marie in her living room and shot her to death. The gunshots and screams awoke her husband, and he chased him away with his own gun.
7. Benjamin Brewer (1978-1996, lethal injection): Brewer raped his neighbor, 20 year old Karen Stapleton, in her home and stabbed her to death
8. Steven Hatch (1979-1996, lethal injection): Hatch and another assailant, Glen Ake, forced themselves inside the home that Richard Dougass, a 43 year old reverend, shared with his wife, 36 year old Marilyn, and their two children, 16 year old Brooks and 12 year old Lesile. The pair tied up the family and raped Lesile in front of her parents and brother. All four family members were shot, and Hatch and Ake ran off with $43 and the parents’ wedding rings. Richard and Marilyn were both killed in the shootings, while their children survived the attack. Ake was also initially condemned for the attack, but his sentence was overturned and resentenced to life following mental health concerns, and passed away from undisclosed natural causes in 2011.
9. Scott Carpenter (1994-1997, lethal injection): In a convenience store robbery, Carpenter stabbed the owner, 56 year old A. J. Kelley, in the neck, and hid the body in the minnow room. He filled his truck with $37 worth of gas from the pumps and drove away from the scene. His execution caused some controversy, as it was reported that Carpenter gasped and spasmed for 11 minutes after being injected.
10. Michael Long (1997-1998, lethal injection): Enraged that his coworker, 24 year old Sheryl Graber, refused him sex and started screaming for help, he stabbed her over 31 times. Long also shot and killed her son, 5 year old Andrew, for being a witness.
11. Stephen Wood (1992-1998, lethal injection): While heavily intoxicated, Wood stabbed two other homeless men, 46 year old Charles Stephen and 34 year old Charles Von Johnson, dozens of times each. He was given a life sentence for both of their murders. During his incarceration, Robert Brigden, a 59 year old former minister that was serving a 40 year sentence for molesting several girls between the ages of 4-14 in his congregation, moved into his unit after refusing to go into protective custody. Woods killed Brigden in a stabbing attack, and his sentence was escalated to death by the courts for it.
12. Tuan Anh Nguyen (~1982-1998, lethal injection): By all accounts, Nguyen was jealously possessive over his wife, 21 year old Donna. During one of their arguments over his behavior, he stabbed Donna, her 6 year old nephew Joseph White, and her 3 year old niece Amanda White, in their home and left the bodies to be found by the children’s parents. He fled to Arizona, groomed a 14 year old girl into an illicit “relationship”, and impregnated her. After he convinced her to move in with him, Nguyen physically and sexually abused the girl until she fled and went to the local police for help. Nguyen was then deported back to Oklahoma to face trial for Donna and the White children’s slayings, and was sentenced to death for them.
13. John Duvall (1986-1998, lethal injection): During a fight with his wife, 30 year old Donna, Duvall stabbed and suffocated her to death with a pillow.
14. John Castro Sr. (1983-1999, lethal injection): Castro carjacked Beulah Cox, a 31 year old Oklahoma State University student, after she picked him up hitchhiking and shot her to death. A few months later, Castro held up a restaurant with an empty pistol, and attacked the manger, 29 year old Rhonda Pappan, after forcing her to open the register. During their struggle, Pappan was fatally stabbed, and he took off with her purse. During his mid teens, Castro was allegedly molested by his mother. Castro's attorneys made the argument that his glimpses of Cox's buttocks reminded him of his mother's reported abuse, and he was triggered into attacking her for it.
15. Sean Sellers (1985-1999, lethal injection): In 1985, a then 15 year old Sellers tried to buy beer from a convenience store, but the clerk, 32 year old Robert Bower, denied him due to being underaged at the time. Sellers gunned him down in a fit of rage. A year later, Sellers shot and killed his mother, 32 year old Vonda Bellofatto, and stepfather, 43 year old Paul, in their sleep. Due to being 16 at the time of his conviction, Sellers remains the youngest condemned offender to have his sentence carried out in the post Furman era. He also attracted national media attention for claiming that his crimes were the result of demonic possession.
16. Scotty Moore (1983-1999, lethal injection): Moore was fired from a motel for undisclosed reasons. In retaliation, Moore and a cousin (whom he was dating at the time), assaulted the motel, and gunned down the desk clerk, 42 year old Alex Fernandez. According to court documents, the pair took a total of $97 in the robbery.
17. Norman Newsted (1984-1999, lethal injection): Newsted tricked Lawrence Buckley, a 26 year old cab driver, into picking him up. He shot Buckley dead and took his wallet. In an attempt to cover his tracks, Newsted placed the body inside the cab, and drove it into a creek near a local church. Despite his best efforts, Buckley’s cab and remains were discovered a day later by the church’s pastor.
18. Cornel Cooks (1982-1999, lethal injection): Cooks and his accomplice broke into the home of 87 year old Jennie Ridling. She was gagged, raped, and suffocated to death with gauze wrappings. According to autopsy reports, the pair abused her for over 2 hours. They then sacked the house for any valuables and left with her checkbook.
19. Bobby Ross (1983-1999, lethal injection): While robbing an inn, Ross fatally shot a police officer, 30 year old Steve Mahan, that tried to intervene.
20. Malcolm Johnson (~1970s(?)-2000, lethal injection): Johnson invaded the apartment of 76 year old Ura Thompson and sexually assaulted her. Thompson either died from having her chest compounded during the abuse or was suffocated by Johnson’s hands covering her nose. He seized several possessions such as furs, typewriters, purse, watch, rings, and a hand mirror, which were discovered by police in his residence during an unrelated investigation of a firearms possession charge. Johnson had an extensive criminal history, which included several convictions of rape, armed robberies, and burglaries. The case attracted controversy when it was discovered that the lead chemist in the investigation misconducted several of her other cases, and forged some of the evidence used in the trial. Despite the other overwhelming evidence to the contrary, Johnson’s supporters took the opportunity to push a narrative of his innocence.
21. Gary Walker (~1960s-2000, lethal injection): Walker abducted, raped, and murdered at least 5 women, 36 year old Margaret Lydick, 35 year old Jane Hilburn, 32 year old Janet Jewell, 25 year old Valerie Shaw-Hartzell, and 24 year old DeRonda Roy, and non fatally assaulted several other women and teenage girls. The victims were mostly strangled to death with their bras and panties. Some of them were forced to withdraw hundreds of dollars from ATMs before they were killed. He also strangled a man, 63 year old Eddie Cash, with an electrical cord while robbing his home. Walker had dozens of previous convictions for burglary, carjacking, drug possession, and carrying concealed weapons. Some of his earliest arrests occurred when he was a teenager.
22. Michael Roberts (~1988-2000, lethal injection): A career burglar, Roberts was condemned for murder of 80 year old Lula Brooks. She was raped and her throat was slit by an intruder in her home. Roberts' death sentence and execution has been contested, as he was convicted on his later recounted testimony alone. He claimed that the investigators tricked him into confessing with the promise of a plea deal that was allegedly withheld from him.
23. Kelly Rogers (1990-2000, lethal injection): Rogers’ girlfriend lured 21 year old Karen Lauffenburger into her apartment with a fake pizza order. They accosted her when she arrived with the delivery. After the couple forced Lauffenburger to hand to over the $40 she earned from the night's pizza deliveries and withdraw $175 from an ATM, Rogers raped and stabbed her to death. The body was left in Lauffenburger’s apartment and was found by her boyfriend.
24. Ronald Boyd (1986-2000, lethal injection): During a robbery spree of several gas stations and supermarkets, Boyd engaged in a shootout with the responding officers. A Master Patrolman, 32 year old Richard Riggs, was killed in the exchange.
25. Charles Foster (~1980s(?)-2000, lethal injection): Foster suspected a grocery store owner, 74 year old Claude Wiley, of making sexual advances at his wife. He arranged for her to entice Wiley to their home with an order. When he arrived with the delivery, Foster stabbed and bludgeoned him to death with a baseball bat. He a history of convictions involving threats and violence, though my sources didn’t disclose any specific details.
26. James Robedeaux (1978-2000, lethal injection): In 1978, Robedeaux strangled his first wife, 30 year old Linda, and plead guilty to a second degree murder charges. He was released after serving 6 out of a 25 year sentence despite an escape attempt. In the following year, he began a relationship with 37 year old Nancy McKinney while he married a different woman. During an argument, Robedeaux beat McKinney to death, dismembered her body with a saw and machete, and scattered the remains across the state. While being investigated for McKinney's murder, he was arrested for choking and beating his estranged second wife. The cases were incidental and kept separate by the courts.
27. Roger Berget (~1985-2000, lethal injection): Berget carjacked and abducted 33 year old Rick Patterson with an accomplice, and shot him dead. He also admitted to the beating death of a roommate, 40 year old James Meadows, on the behalf of the man's wife. As a trivial side note, Berget's brother Rodney was executed in 2018 by the state of South Dakota for killing a prison guard [for more information, please see Rodney Berget's entry under the South Dakota section of my states with less then 10 executions post].
28. William Bryson (1988-2000, lethal injection): To collect a $300,000 life insurance policy, Marilyn Plantz recruited her boyfriend Byrson and his friend to kill her husband, 33 year old James. Byrson and his friend ambushed Plantz in his house as he was coming home from work and beat him to death with a baseball bat. With the intentions of staging an accident, Marilyn ordered the pair to burn the body in the couple's pickup truck.
29. Gregg Braun (1989-2000, lethal injection): Across several states, Braun shot and killed 4 women, 48 year old Geraldine Valdez, 31 year old Gwendolyn Miller, 28 year old Mary Rains, 27 year old Barbara Kochendorfer, and one man, 54 year old Pete Spurrier, while robbing stores.
30. George Wallace (~1970s-2000, lethal injection): Known as "the Mad Paddler" due to his habit of spanking abducted preteen and teenage boys with a wooden paddle, Wallace kidnapped his victims by posing as a police officer. After duping his targets into thinking that they were being arrested, Wallace restrained them with handcuffs and leg chains. The captives were then sexually abused and shot or stabbed to death. His crimes were exposed when an 18 year old man he abducted escaped from him despite being shot and stabbed numerous times. By his own admission, Wallace murdered 18 year old Thomas Reed, 15 year old William Domer, 14 year old Mark McLaughlin, 14 year old Jeffrey Foster, and 12 year old Alonzo Cade.
31. Eddie Trice (1987-2001, lethal injection): Trice snuck into the home of 84 year old Ernestine Jones and raped her. After he beat Jones to death with numbchucks, he terrorized and extorted her cognitively disabled son of $500 with threats of killing him if he told anyone of the murder. The son was also assaulted with a hammer, and he received injuries to his right eye, right cheekbone, and his right forearm.
32. Wanda Allen (~1981-2001, lethal injection): In 1981, Allen got into a fight with her live in girlfriend, 21 year old Dedra Pettus, and shot her dead. Despite giving a bungled story about her being accidentally killed in a shootout with Pettus’ ex boyfriend to the investigators, Allen managed to secure a 4 year sentence for manslaughter after pleading guilty to a plea deal, and was released after serving two years. While incarcerated, she started dating a fellow inmate, 29 year old Gloria Leathers, and continued their relationship outside of prison. The couple’s relationship was marred with extreme domestic violence on Allen’s end. In one incident, Allen struck Leathers with a rake. In 1989, while they were arguing in front of a shopping center, Allen shot and killed Leathers. Leathers herself also had history of violence, and had a conviction for stabbing a woman to death. Allen and her defense team tried to use Leathers’ previous convictions to make a self defense argument, but that was shot down by the courts.
33. Floyd Medlock (1990-2001, lethal injection): 7 year old Katherine Busch went to visit her family's old apartment, which Medlock was residing in, by herself. Busch knocked on the door and Medlock let her inside after she begged for food. He then choked and sexually assaulted the girl, dunked her head in a toilet bowl, and stabbed her to death. The body was hidden in a nearby dumpster. Busch's grandmothers were staunch pro capital punishment and anti death penalty activists respectively, and their public feud over Medlock's sentence and execution attracted some media attention. Medlock also had an extensive criminal history despite being only 19 at the time of Busch's murder, and was previously arrested several times for indecent exposure, arson, armed robbery, and marijuana possession.
34. Dion Smallwood (1992-2001, lethal injection): Smallwood walked into the home of his ex girlfriend's adoptive stepmother, 68 year old Lois Frederick, without invitation. He had a tumultuous and often violent relationship with her adopted stepdaughter that she strongly opposed, and they broke up under her pressure. After an argument, Smallwood knocked Frederick unconscious with a croquet mallet, locked her in a car, and burned her alive in it.
35. Mark Fowler (1985-2001, lethal injection): To get back at his ex employers for firing him, Fowler and his partner, Billy Fox, stormed a supermarket that he used to work out. The pair rounded up 3 employees, Chumpon Chaowasin, a 44 year old Thai immigrant, 33 year old Rick Cast, and 27 year old John Barrier, at gun point. Their hostages were shot, clubbed, and stabbed to death, and they took over $2,7000 in cash and checks.
36. Billy Fox (1985-2001, lethal injection): Fox assisted the above mentioned Mark Fowler in robbing a supermarket and murdering 3 of its employees
37. Loyd Lafevers (1985-2001, lethal injection): Lafevers and his accomplice, Randall Cannon, kidnapped 84 year old Addie Hawley from her home. She was raped, trapped in the trunk of a car, and burned alive in it. Although she was rescued, Hawley died from her injuries 6 hours later. The pair stole Hawley's wedding ring and Lafevers gifted it to a stripper. As Hawley's nephew was a Colorado state senator, her murder gained some attention from media outlets.
38. Dorsie Jones Jr. (1979-2001, lethal injection): While drinking at a bar, a barmaid chastised Jones for carrying an unconcealed gun. He shot at her in a fit of rage, but missed and injured his female companion instead. Jones then turned his attention to the other patrons and fired on them. 48 year old Stanley Buck Sr. was killed in front of his 19 year old son, who was also wounded in the shooting.
39. Robert Clayton (~1980s-2001, lethal injection): Clayton attacked 19 year old Rhonda Timmons while she was sunbathing near her apartment. She was raped, stabbed, kicked in the head, and strangled to death with her swimming suit. Her husband found Timmons' body laying next to their infant daughter, who was left unharmed. Clayton had a previous rape conviction in Tennessee and a robbery conviction in Texas.
40. Ronald Fluke (1997-2001, lethal injection): Out of despair that his gambling addiction drove his family to near poverty, Fluke shot and killed his wife, 44 year old Ginger, and their daughters, 13 year old Kathryn and 11 year old Susanne, while they were sleeping in their bedrooms. He initially attacked Ginger with a hatchet, but turned to shooting when she fought back.
41. Marilyn Plantz (1988-2001, lethal injection): The married girlfriend of William Bryson. As mentioned under Bryson's entry, Plantz arranged for him and his friend to kill her husband James to collect his life insurance policy.
42. Terrance James (1983-2001, lethal injection): While awaiting trial for a theft of government property charge, James and two accomplices strangled a fellow inmate, 25 year old Mark Berry, with wire out of their suspicions of him being a snitch. They then hung the body in an attempt to make it look like a suicide. Berry was another party in the theft of government property case, and James and his accomplices believed that it was his testimony that got them arrested.
43. Vincent Johnson (1991-2001, lethal injection): Johnson gunned down 44 year old Shirley Mooneyham in her home. The prosecution believed that Mooneyham's boyfriend arranged the killing to collect a life insurance policy, but he was acquitted at trial.
44. Jerald Harjo (~1980s-2001, lethal injection): Harjo snuck into the bedroom of 64 year old Ruth Porter, raped her, and suffocated her with a pillowcase. He then snatched Porter's car keys and drove off with her van. His past criminal history was extensive, and was in prison numerous times for burglary and autotheft.
45. Jack Walker (1988-2001, lethal injection): Disgruntled with the custody dispute over their then 3 month old son, Walker stabbed his ex girlfriend, 17 year old Shelly Ellison, and her uncle, 30 year old Donald, 32 and 11 times with an ice pick during a confrontation at their home.
46. Alvie Hale Jr. (1983-2001, lethal injection): Hale kidnapped 24 year old William Perry to extort a $350,000 ransom from his banking family. When the negotiations failed, Perry was shot dead, and Hale buried the body on his father's property.
47. Lois Smith (1982-2001, lethal injection): Smith, her son, and a female accomplice abducted her son's ex girlfriend, 21 year old Cindy Baillee, from an airport out of fear her testifying of his involvement in the drug trade. Baillee was taken to Smith's ex husband's house, and stabbed in the throat by her ex boyfriend while driving to their destination. Inside the home, she was taunted by Smith with a gun, and was shot 7 times in the chest and 2 times in the back of the head. While her son was reloading the gun, Smith jumped on and crushed Bailee's throat.
48. Sahib Lateef Al-Mosawi (1992-2001, lethal injection): Following a dispute over their newborn son's name, Al-Mosawi's estranged wife, 26 year old Inaam Al-Nashi, fled to the apartment of her uncle, 45 year old Mohammed. Al-Mosaw attacked the pair in the apartment and stabbed them to death. Inaam's sister was also stabbed, but she managed to escape with her life. The couple and their families were refugees from Iraq that were displaced by the First Persian Gulf War, and they fled into the United States.
49. John Romano (1985-2002, lethal injection): Romano and his accomplice David Woodruff robbed and murdered two of their acquaintances. One of the victims, 63 year old Lloyd Thompson, was attacked in his apartment. Thompson was held down by the pair while they stabbed him 22 times and served his spinal cord. The other victim, 52 year old Roger Sarfaty, was tied up, beaten, stabbed 5 times, and strangled to death in a jewelry store he owned. In the robberies, Romano and Woodruff stole several pieces of jewelry from Sarfaty, and took most of Thompson’s quarter collection.
50. David Woodruff (1985-2002, lethal injection): As mentioned under John Romano's entry, Woodruff took part in the robbery murders of Lloyd Thompson and Roger Sarfaty.
51. Randall Cannon (1985-2002, lethal injection): Cannon assisted Loyd Lafevers in abducting, sexually assaulting, and burning Addie Hawley alive in her car. Although he was acquitted of molesting Hawley, Cannon was still condemned for his part in the kidnapping and murder.
52. Earl Frederick Sr. (~1989-2002, lethal injection): Frederick beat Bradford Beck, a 41 year old veteran that was crippled during his service in the Vietnam war, to death in his home after befriending him. He ransacked the house and dumped Beck's body in a field. A second murder, the robbery and shooting death of a Texan man, 77 year old Shirley Fox, was also tied to him. However, authorities in Texas withheld from prosecuting Fredrick due to his death penalty trial and conviction in Oklahoma. Both Fox and Beck had physical disabilities, which led prosecutors to the conclusion that Frederick intentionally selected and depredated on disabled men.
53. Jerry McCracken (~1980s(?)-2002, lethal injection): McCracken and his accomplice shot up a bar, killed 3 patrons and the bartender, and made off with $350. The victims that lost their lives were 41 year old Carol McDaniels, 37 year old Timothy Sheets, 34 year old Steven Sheets, and 27 year old Tyrrell Boyd. Months before the mass shooting, McCracken was paroled after serving time for stabbing 3 people in a bar fight.
54. Jay Neill (1984-2002, lethal injection): During a bank robbery, Neill disemboweled and nearly decapitated 3 tellers, 42 year old Kay Bruno, 25 year old Joyce Mullenix, and 19 year old Jerri Bowles. A group of 4 customers, consisting of 33 year old Ralph Zeller, a married couple, and their 14 month old daughter, unwittingly walked in on him, and he herded them into a backroom to be shot. Zeller was killed, the couple were wounded, and Neill left the daughter unharmed due to running out of bullets. Neill's boyfriend was given a life sentence for the robbery and murders, despite not being directly involved.
55. Ernest Carter Jr. (~1989-2002, lethal injection): After being fired from an autoshop, Carter robbed it with an accomplice, and fatally shot a security guard, 35 year old Eugene Manowski. The pair stole the shop's tow truck, and later tried to burn it with Carter's girlfriend to destroy any traces of the crime. Carter was also previously accused of burning a friend to death in the previous year, but the charges were dismissed.
56. Daniel Revilla (1987-2003, lethal injection): While babysitting his girlfriend's son, 13 month old Mark Gomez, in their home, Revilla broke the boy’s ribs in a beating and scalded him with boiling water. When he brought the boy to a hospital, Revilla gave a story that he accidentally hit Gomez’s head with a door handle, which was quickly seen through by the staff. According to the accounts of his girlfriend and her family, Revilla was violently abusive to Gomez, and they recounted incidents of him trapping the boy in a kitchen drawer, dunking him in cold water, folding him into a pull up bed, and hanging him by his ankles with duct tape.
57. Bobby Fields (~1990s-2003, lethal injection): Fields shot and killed 77 year old Louise Schem while burglarizing her home. She had tried to shot him with her .25 calibre pistol, but he wrestled the gun away from her, and gunned her down with it. His intentions was to steal Schem's television set to sell for cocaine, but left empty handed after losing his nerves with the struggle and murder. According to court documents, Fields had a previous robbery and assault conviction, and several arrests for drug possession.
58. Walanzo Robinson (1989-2003, lethal injection): A member of the Gangster Bloods street gang, Robinson shot and killed 26 year old Dennis Hill, an affiliate of a rival gang, in a turf war over drug sales.
59. John Hooker (~1971-2003, lethal injection): As a teenager in 1971, Hooker attended a party at a friend's house, and got into an argument. In a fit of anger, he fatally shot 18 year old Alta Lang, and wounded two other partygoers. Due to the witnesses refusing to cooperate with the investigation and being unable to prove any calculated intentions, Hooker was given a manslaughter conviction, and released a few years later. After he was paroled, Hooker started dating Sylvia Stokes, and fathered several children with her. Their troubled relationship lasted for 8 years, and ended when Stokes filed a protection order against him. In retaliation, Hooker lured Stokes and her mother, 53 year old Durcilla Morgan, into his apartment and stabbed them both to death.
60. Scot Hain (~1980s-2003, lethal injection): Hain carjacked and abducted a couple, 27 year old Michael Houghton and 22 year old Laura Sanders. After taking $565 and some bags of clothing, he forced them into the trunk of their car at gunpoint, and burned them alive in it. He had several previous arrests for robbery, and was involved with a number of rapes and attempted kidnappings months before the Houghton and Sanders' murders.
61. Don Hawkins Jr. (1985-2003, lethal injection): Hawkins kidnapped 29 year old Linda Ann Thompson and her two daughters, aged 4 years old and 18 months old, from a mall. Although his original intentions were to ransom off Thompson and her children, Hawkins gang raped the captive woman with his cousin and his girlfriend's teenage nephew, and drowned her in a lake. Thompson's children were spared and simply left with a babysitter. Hawkins and his accomplice then went on a nation wide rampage with his accomplice that involved the abductions and rapes of several grown women and teenage girls, hanging 31 year old David Coupez of Colorado in his home while robbing him, and countless other robberies.
62. Larry Jackson (~1984-2003, lethal injection): In 1984, Jackson shot and killed his girlfriend, 19 year old Freda Washington. He accepted a plea deal that dumbed down the charges to second degree murder, and was given a 30 year sentence for it. During his incarceration, Jackson started a relationship with 29 year old Wendy Cade. Despite her promises of marriage after his release, Cade left him for another man, and they got engaged. When Jackson was assigned to a prison work crew, he snuck out and went to confront Cade. Reportedly, the two had bought alchool, cocaine, and cigerates together and had sex in Cade's apartment. However, they got into an argument, and he slashed Cade's throat and stabbed her 31 times with box cutters. Jackson then left with her jewelry, watch, and the keys to her jeep.

2024.05.13 14:26 sonofabutch No game today, so let's remember a forgotten Yankee: Horace Clarke

"I played major league baseball for parts of 10 years, and I played in the magnificent city of New York, and as a child in St. Croix that was beyond dreams. Yes, I am a happy man." -- Horace Clarke
The worst stretch of Yankee baseball since the Highlander days, the mid 60s to the mid 70s, is remembered by those who lived through it as the Horace Clarke Era. Unfairly or not, the bespectacled switch-hitting middle infielder from the U.S. Virgin Islands came to symbolize all that was wrong with the Yankees in those sad years.
Horace Meredith Clarke grew up on the island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He was just the fifth player from the U.S. Virgin Islands to play in the majors, and the first Yankee. His father had grown up playing cricket, and because there were no youth baseball leagues on the island, young Horace played softball. He said he didn't see his first baseball game until around age 13, when he saw some U.S. Navy sailors playing.
“We were poor kids in St. Croix. We played on a field which was right on the ocean and had no fences. We couldn’t afford baseballs. So the coach made the lefthanded batters hit righthanded and the righthanded batters hit lefthanded. This was so they couldn’t hit the ball so far. It saved us from losing the baseballs in the ocean.”
Clarke was spotted by a Yankee scout in the Caribbean and assigned to the lowest run of the Yankee farm system -- the Kearney Yankees in Class D ball. Imagine being an 18-year-old kid from St. Croix in the Caribbean, and arriving in Kearney, Nebraska in the spring of 1958. The culture shock must have been overwhelming. Maybe not surprisingly, Clarke hit a disappointing .225/.322/.283 in 187 at-bats. He said the biggest adjustment wasn't the cold weather, but night games played under the lights, something he'd never done before.
The following year Horace was in the Florida State League, and he thrived in the warmer weather, hitting .293/.375/.366 in 571 at-bats. He also stole 34 bases that year. The year after that, he was back up north, playing for Fargo in the Northern League, and hit .307/.389/.369 in 537 at-bats. The following year was Amarillo in the Texas League, where he hit .300/.364/.429.
Then the next three years in the International League, where he hit .281/.345/.352 in 1,494 at-bats while playing shortstop and second base.
But despite Clarke's promise, he was blocked by Bobby Richardson. By the time Clarke had reached Triple-A at age 24 in 1963, the 27-year-old Richardson had already been a four-time All-Star, a two-time Gold Glove winner, and had won three World Series rings... plus the MVP for the 1960 World Series, the only time in baseball history a player for the losing team won the award!
But the Yankees knew Richardson was planning on retiring, so they kept Clarke waiting in the wings. He opened the year with the Toledo Mud Hens, then the Yankees' Triple-A team, and then after a month he finally got the call to the show.
Fifty-nine years ago today, on May 13, 1965, Clarke was sent up to the plate in the 7th inning as a pinch hitter to make his major league debut in a game the Yankees were losing, 4-1, to the Boston Red Sox in Fenway Park.
Clarke, facing Dave Morehead, beat out an infield single. It was a promising beginning. But, as if scripted to be symbolic of his career, Clarke's success was short-lived as the next batter bounced into a fielder's choice. Forced out at second base, Clarke watched the rest of the game from the dugout. The next day he'd get the start and go 0-for-4.
Hitting .250/.298/.269 at the end of June as a utility infielder, Clarke was sent back down to Toledo for two months to get more regular playing time. It helped. When he returned on September 3 -- coincidentally, also against the Red Sox -- he went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Overall that month, Clarke hit .273/.298/.327, and for the season, .262/.298/.299 in 115 plate appearances. But the Yankees, the reigning A.L. champions for the past five seasons, finished a shocking 77-85, all the way in sixth place.
That off-season, Phil Linz -- the harmonica playing utility infielder -- was traded to the Phillies, opening up a roster spot for Clarke. Richardson, though only 31, had told the Yankees he would retire at the end of the 1966 season, and the Yankees wanted him to mentor Clarke as his successor.
Clarke started just seven games over the first half, but a series of injuries forced him into regular service. Over the second half, he played almost every day, hitting .276/.334/.404 in 300 plate appearances. He was mostly used at shortstop, where his defense wasn't great, but in 16 games at second base he looked good enough that the Yankees were confident he could be a regular there. Yankee fans were no doubt a little sad when Richardson officially announced to the press on August 31 that it was his last season, but at least we knew who would be playing second base the following year.
Indeed, second base was the least of the Yankees' problems. New York finished dead last at 70-89 in 1966, the team's worst performance since 1925, as injuries fell Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Elston Howard, and Whitey Ford.
Entering 1967 as the starting second baseman, Clarke hit a solid .272/.321/.316 (94 OPS+) in 633 plate appearances while leading the league in fielding percentage, assists, and range factor as a second baseman. He also stole 21 bases in 25 tries, a second-best .840 SB%. His 3.7 bWAR that year was better than any season Richardson ever had -- his career high was 3.2 bWAR in 1962.
The following year, the Yankees finished 83-79 -- above .500 for the first time in four seasons -- but a whopping 34.5 games out. Clarke had one of the worst years of his career, hitting .230/.258/.254 (60 OPS+) as he played through injuries all year.
He rebounded in 1969 to .285/.339/.467 (101 OPS+), with 33 stolen bases. It was, statistically, the best season of his career (3.9 bWAR). But once again the Yankees were terrible -- 28.5 games out.
In 1970, Clarke again disappointed, hitting .251/.286/.309 (68 OPS+). The Yankees won 93 games that year, but it amounted to naught as the Orioles ran away with the pennant, going 108-54 to win it by 15 games. In fact, it was pretty much over by July, with the Yankees 7 games out at the All-Star break.
It was around this time that Yankee fans began focusing their frustration on Clarke. One New York sportswriter routinely referred to him as "Horrible Horace". Miscast as a leadoff man -- he had a career .308 OBP -- and criticized for "bailing out" on double plays, manager Ralph Houk years later offered a tepid defense of his second baseman:
“I know I got a lot of criticism for playing Horace Clarke as much as I did, but he was a lot better ballplayer than anyone gave him credit for. He did a lot of things good but nothing great, and that was his problem. Besides, I didn’t have anyone else.”
The lack of a replacement was certainly an issue. In 1971, there was talk in The Sporting News about a prospect named Fred Frazier being the heir apparent to Clarke at second base. That year, Frazier hit a disappointing .261/.316/.313 in Triple-A; the next year, .216/.302/.281. The year after that, he was in the Orioles organization. He never made it out of the minors.
In fact, Clarke was the only constant in the Yankee infield in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Yankees during the, ahem, Horace Clarke Era had holes everywhere, with a revolving door at first base, third base, and shortstop. For five years, from 1967 to 1971, Clarke was the Opening Day starter at second base; during that same stretch, there were five different third basemen, five different third basemen, and three different shortstops. Between 1967 and 1973, he started 1,017 games at second base, or 90% of all Yankee games.
But that, explained Yankees PR man Marty Appel, was kind of the problem. "Fans especially didn’t like the second baseman, the beleaguered Horace Clarke, whose major flaw seemed to be longevity. It wasn’t his fault that no one better came along, and he was a better player than the fans gave him credit for. But because he was out there, year after year, he came to stand for this disappointing run by the club."
"I always did my best. I always played as hard as I could. I never was concerned about how the fans reacted to me." -- Horace Clarke
The following year Clarke hit .250/.321/.318 in 696 plate appearances, but the Yankees again were out of it, finishing 82-80 in 1971.
Yankee fans had been miserable since 1965, but frustration with the team in general -- and Clarke in particular -- reached a boiling point in 1972. It had been seven years since the Yankees had been in the post-season, and 1972 was the first year the Yankees had the playoffs within our grasp since winning the pennant in 1964. (The "closest and latest" the Yankees had been since the 1965 season was 9 games out of 1st place on September 8, 1970.)
On September 12, 1972, the Yankees were a half-game out of 1st place at 74-64, with 17 games left to go in the season. The Red Sox were in 1st at 73-62, the Orioles tied with New York at 74-64, and the Tigers a half-game behind at 73-64. Over the rest of the season, the Yankees went a heartbreaking 5-12, while the Tigers won 13 out of 19 to win the A.L. East.
There was plenty of blame to go around for that collapse, but Yankee fans were particularly irate at Clarke, who hit .225/.267/.296 during those final 17 games.
To his credit, Clarke never complained about the boos from fans or the criticism in the press. As quoted by Dick Young in the New York Daily News in 1972:
"Sure, I would feel bad when I saw in the papers that, 'the Yankees can never win the pennant with that guy at second base.' But why get mad. I figure that's his opinion, and he's entitled to it. I must have been able to do something. Don't tell me a ballplayer can fool a manager for seven years."
Years later, Thurman Munson said his adversarial relationship with the media was based on how Horace Clarke was treated.
In 1973, the 34-year-old Clarke hit .263/.317/.308 (80 OPS+), his defense was no longer among the league leaders, and the Yankees were once again double-digit games behind by Labor Day.
It was finally time to move on. That off season, the Yankees acquired 23-year-old utility infielder Jim Mason from the Texas Rangers and installed him as the starting shortstop for the upcoming 1974 season; Gene Michael, the Yankees' on-again, off-again shortstop since 1968, was moved to second base; and Clarke to the bench. It wasn't exactly an earth-shattering move -- Mason was coming off a season in which he hit .206/.273/.290, and Michael .225/.270/.278. If anything, the two represented a substantial downgrade from Clarke's numbers. (By bWAR the previous season, Clarke was still the best option of the three, 0.6 compared to Mason's -0.7 and Michael's -0.9.)
After hitting .234/.294/.255 in 53 plate appearances as a pinch hitter and spot starter, on May 31, 1974, the Yankees finally ended the Horace Clarke Era by selling his contract to the San Diego Padres along with minor league pitcher Lowell Palmer for $25,000. At the time of the deal, Clarke was still the Yankees' best option at second base as Mason was hitting .214/.287/.307 and Michael a putrid .134/.224/.179!
Six weeks later, the Yankees tried to address their second base problem again by acquiring former All-Star Sandy Alomar from the Angels. Alomar, who fathered major leaguers Sandy Jr. and Roberto, played for the Yankees for the next two and a half seasons, hitting .248/.287/.302... again, worse than Horace's career average of .256/.308/.313.
And yet getting rid of Horace Clarke immediately turned around the Yankees' fortunes. With Horace, the Yankees were 23-27, the worst record in the American League; without him, a second-best 66-46. New York finished 89-73, just two games behind the Baltimore Orioles.
The Yankees finally found a solution to the second base problem on December 11, 1975, trading previously forgotten Yankee Doc Medich to the Pirates for Dock Ellis, Ken Brett, and a 20-year-old prospect named Willie Randolph.
Meanwhile, Clarke went to San Diego and hit .189/.255/.200 in 99 plate appearances. He was released at the end of the season and retired. He was a frequent attendee at Yankee Old Timers' Games, and promoted baseball in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He died at age 81 on August 5, 2020, from complications due to Alzheimer's disease.
The Clarke Side
"I remember the first game I played in Yankee Stadium in 1965. There were more than 40,000 people in the stands. I had just come from my country where there are 30,000 people in the entire country. That was some adjustment." -- Horace Clarke
Overall, Horace Clarke hit .257/.309/.315 in 5,144 plate appearances as a Yankee. His numbers aren't quite as bad as they appear, as he played during one of the lowest offense eras since deadball... an 84 OPS+. That ranks him ahead of fondly-remembered Yankees like Shelley Duncan (81 OPS+), Rick Cerone (80 OPS+), Miguel Cairo (80 OPS+), Bucky Dent (72 OPS+), and... Bobby Richardson (77 OPS+). And while many complained about his defense, his defensive metrics -- such as we have for his era -- indicate he was at least an average defender. He led the league in range factor three times, in fielding percentage once, in assists six times, and in double plays twice.
People tend to think about Clarke -- if they think about him at all -- as either a terrible player, representative of the teams he played on, or a good player who was wasted on bad teams. The truth is somewhere in the middle. As sportswriter Maury Allen said, he was "an average big-leaguer on below-average Yankee teams."
And in fact, Clarke's 16.0 career bWAR as a Yankee is twice as much value as the player he replaced, Bobby Richardson (8.0 bWAR). But Richardson was a fan favorite, while Clarke was scorned. But of course... Richardson won three rings. And Yankee fans love a winner!
"New York is New York. You don’t win, you’re going to hear about it. I was in the middle." -- Horace Clarke
Had Clarke come along a few years earlier and been part of the early 1960s dynasty, he might be remembered fondly as a scrappy infielder, a Tony Kubek or a Bucky Dent or a Scott Brosius -- a good but not great player who had some memorable moments.
Instead, Horace Clarke defines an era of futility.

  1. Dale Cooper in The Black Lodge [ Episode 2]
“You may be brave in this world Cooper, but there are other worlds.”
Dale and Laura, 25 years later. It’s time to Dale leave the Black Lodge. In this scene, Laura ‘s essence is sent to a Alternative Reality where she is named Carrie Page and her parents are Leland and Sarah but she doesn’t remember the name Laura. Since the beggining, The White Lodge wanted Bob’s head and the Blue Rose Task Force wanted Judy’s Head. It matchs with the end of season 3, anyway. I think the goal is she be killed again, by Judy. On Episode 18, Cooper finds her and wants to take her home, to her family, for she is a missing girl named Laura. Her return leads to Judy’s death in somepoint of the history. It explains why they can’t find her family.
The Arm said: “Your doppelgänger needs to back BEFORE you leave.”
Bob said to Darya he will not back to Black Lodge because he has a plan [Dougie Jones]. Dougie Jones was pulled back and Dale Cooper came out. Once it happened, we have two Dales in the same reality and on Episode 4, Mike said to Dale “ You were tricked. One of you must die.” So it shows that there is no doubt that in the end of season Bob died, not sent to BL.
1.1 Dale Cooper Inside Glass Box.
a) What is it?
A magic trap built by a scientist that believes in occultism [ As we can see in an example in The Secret History of Twin Peaks – Jack Parsons] with Bob Cooper’s Money[The anonymous billionare]. But do we have two billionares? Who paid half million to kill Bob? It is possible that was FBI. But, when Freddy Sykes said to James Hurley that a man in the sky said to him to go to Twin Peaks and when he arrived at the airport to buy the ticket, “the ticket were bought, already”. Who paid? Or The White Lodge Paid or they used someone to pay [ Major Garland Briggs when he was among us or the FBI. Dale Cooper knew Freddy when they met]
The White Lodge dragged Bob Cooper to the White Lodge and sent him to Twin Peaks Sheriff Departament where Freddy Sykes was arrested with his green gloves [what coincidence]. The White Lodge had everything under control all the time despite FBI, Officers, Blue Rose efforts. Gordon Cole received Ray Monroe SMS for FBI paid that Hal Million but didn’t pretend to be Jeffreis. Albert didn’t know Gordon’s plan so it was Phillip Jeffreis who called.
When Cooper tried to leave Black Lodge, a doppelganger of the Arm said “Non-Exist-ence” and he was caught by the Glass Box before sexual activity. He was sent to the Purple Sea [ The Non-Exist-Ence Place] where he was pulled out by eletricity and replaced Dougie Jones in Racho Rosa. After that, minutes later, a thing appeared when the couple were having sex.
Dougie Jones was missing several days, for he had a football bet. When he was replaced for Dale Cooper, many men were around to kill him and explode his car. They were hired by Lorraine that was hired by Duncan Todd that obeyed Bob Cooper orders to kill Dougie Jones. I believe that he was aware that The Black Lodge was agains’t him, like Mike used to be.
On Episode 6, was sent a Red Card to Duncan Todd who sent a white envelop with a black dot to a Little Man, to kill Lorraine and Dougie Jones. On Episode 5, we see Lorraine sending a message to someone named Argent that means “money” in french, that can also means Argentina. And then, a black box, a receptor turns on a red light. When Bob Cooper was in jail, he makes a call to this same receptor and then it dismantle itself.
Note: In Alchemic, the symbol of Argent is Two Twin Triangles (Twin Peaks) HERE
a.1) Dougie Jones
In Rancho Rosa, two men in a red car are awaiting for Dougie come out. A house near them [ Episode 5] has a symbol that can be encontered in the Map that leads to Black Lodge. Up above the door of that house there is Saturn Symbol [ Named Lead in Alchemical List Symbols] [you can see it here https://symbolsandmeanings.net/alchemy-symbols-signs-their-meanings-elemental-symbols-list/\]. Saturn is one of the planets needed to open Glastonbury gate [ Season 2 Episode 22] “where King Arthur where buried”.Dougie lived in the house with a red door at 25140 Lancelot Court, near Merlin's Market. On Episode 3,when Dale Cooper replaces Dougie, the symbol is a Crux and a retangle and it is the symbol of Potassium. It’s spiritual meaning is open or close gates [https://symbolsandmeanings.net/alchemy-symbols-signs-their-meanings-elemental-symbols-list/\] [ The fact that Potassium deals with the opening and closing of stomata lets me know that in a metaphysical sense it deals with communication which is an aspect of the spirit body. Stomata is the Lung of the Plants. https://ifestropicalfruitandherbdistribution.wordpress.com/metaphysical-relation-to-potassium-and-opening-and-closing-of-stomata/\]. The house with these symbols are inhabited by the drugged woman who screams one-one-nine.When asked why the woman repeats "one-one-nine,", Mark Frost merely stated that “The people who have one foot in the other world have a pronounced tendency to speak backwards."
Source: HERE
As happened before with Mrs. Chalfont and grandson, now is the drugged mother and her son. Note that they are the same design pattern “ The Giant and the Little Man”. Also we see this pattern in Otis’s house: A big man and a small one in a wheelchair.
b) The Purple- Sea or Mauve sea
The purple sea is a great, mauve-tinted body of water, home to several different supernatural beings. There is a Fortress where The Giant and Senorita Dido live. There lives Naido or Diane, Cooper’ Secretary.
This place might be inspired by the "Mauve Zone" from the writings of Kenneth Grant – A thelemist. Grant described the Mauve Zone as a self-contained world at the very edge of reality between what human beings can experience and "non-existence"[ What The Evolution of The Arm Doppelgänger said when Cooper tried to leave The Waiting Room: “ Non-Exist-Ence” Episode 2] Magical manipulations of human reality could be done there by alien beings that could be considered as monsters, it could be visited in a particular kind of sleep, it sent messages to human reality via phenomenon like UFOs and one of the main entities associated with it is called "the daughter."
Note: In Episode 3, The actress who played Ronnette Pulaski appeared in the Mauve Zone but in the credits she is named “ An American Girl”. She said to Cooper: “Be Hurry, my mother is coming.”
So, she is the image of “The Daughter”.
Grant also emphasised on the role of the nuclear bomb in an "occult revival" or increase of magical phenomena after World War II.

c) Major Garland Briggs
When Douglas Milford brought Briggs to Twin Peaks to a Very Confidencial Work he made clear that he will be the chosen one to be The Guardian of The Forest and keep his works with the Supernatural.
"Only moments ago, while writing the previous passage, Cooper called, as I had requested. He’s on his way to the house right now--the bell just rang, he’s here. Betty is letting him in…
12:05 PM MARCH 28, 1989
“He just left. Something’s wrong. The message holds the answer, just as I thought, but I’ve misinterpreted it. Protocols are in place. I must act quickly.
I’m heading to the LPA alone."
* M * A * Y * D * A * Y * - Last Page of The Secret History Of Twin Peaks
“We know that the man whom Sheriff Truman found in the sycamore grove after Agent Cooper’s disappearance was not, in fact, Agent Cooper, but his Double. We know that when Cooper’s Double checked himself out of the hospital the next day, it paid Briggs a visit at his home. We know that Briggs had been expecting a visit from his new Blue Rose “control,” after the death of Doug Milford, and he may have assumed, or even been told, that Agent Cooper was going to be that control. During the Double’s visit, Briggs became alarmed by their interaction and wrote about it in his final entry of the dossier. Given his intuitive capacities, it’s
not too great a supposition to assume that Briggs realized, at some point during their meeting, that the man in front of him was not Agent Cooper—and that this was the reason for the Mayday call that he wrote as the last words in the dossier. We can also assume Major Briggs realized that, rather than confront the Double, he’d best keep that realization to himself, but, given what we have since learned about the Double, it’s fair to suppose that it saw through Briggs’s intention.” - Major Briggs Dossier from Final Dossier.
In his autopsy , we learned that Major swallowed a ring: To Dougie with Love, Jane-e. Dougie Jones was wearing the Jade ring in his left hand.Jane-e is Diane’s younger sister – the Dale’s secretary. The ring would lead FBI’s Blue Rose Task to Dale Cooper through out Diane and find Good Cooper. Also, on Episode 8 we are told that he had a conversation with Bob Cooper, one day before his death. His wife said that he told her : “Bobby, Hawk and Sheriff Truman will appear to inquire after Dale Cooper. When it happens, give this to them.”. Clearly, Major Briggs saw many things in the future but not Dale’s Double until minutes before his death, when Dale Cooper left the Black Lodge.
Note: On Episode 7, Tammy Preston saw that Bob Cooper’s fingerprint wasn’t normal and doesn’t match with 25 years old Dale’s Fingerprint. The exact finger whose fingerprint was flipped is the “Mound Finger, The Spiritual Finger” as Gordon said. Is the Ring Finger from the left hand – To the Blue Rose Task, this finger is named VERY. When Gordon talked to Bob Cooper, he said: “ I yrev very happy to see, you my old friend”. Both Gordon and Albert noticed the Black Lodge language.
d) Are we having problems with delays on the time?
On Episode 9, we have Time issues here, for in Twin Peaks, Sheriff Truman said that October ,1st is “In two days for now” but in the same episode, in Buckhorn is September 20.
It explains that black box in Argentina where Bob and Lorraine were in touch? For they were in delayed times? I had the feeling since the beggining that things were happining on backwards but it was just a feeling. Or not….
On Episode 10, this conversation happened:
Chad: I'll bet you're a girl who appreciates a beautiful day.
Lucy: That depends on what time it is.I mean, sometimes there's not even enough time to think of anything. One time, Andy was even thinking that the clock had stopped, and then we realized that we didn't even know what time it was.It seemed like forever.
We also can see throughout the Season many delays or reverse moviments like in Episode 14, the funny situation with Wilson, the FBI guy from Las Vegas. His boss says the golden phrase: “Wilson, how many time have i told you…. That it is what we do in the FBI!!!”. You can see, while he hits the table that it reverses 4 times.
We can see delays in the face of the father whose son shot the gun in the car. Bobby Briggs saw that the boy and the father are different things. Watch it in Episode 11 on 22:22 min.
  1. Jade- The Sex Worker
If you remember, in season 2, Jade is a character of a Soap Opera. The Jade Stone is a Symbol of cure and David Lynch used Jade codiname as a reference to Madeleine while Emerald, the brightest stone, is Laura. Jade and Emerald were twins.
Jade, the Sex Worker, helped Cooper and sent his key to Twin Peaks.
She also said, when saw Twin Peaks Grand Nothearn Hotel Key and no keys of the Car: So it mean that Jade will give you two rides!
Then, they passed in a Street named Sycamore, and Cooper Said: Jade gave two rides.
Note: In Caballah, Green Colors Means VICTORY.
“The 7th Sephirot( number) of Victory, Green colored Netzach. Netzach is called victory because it’s a victory to have made it this far in emanation. The victory over the beauty of ego, the victory over the self. The victory of experience as well a positive pleasant feeling of victory over the mind. Netzach is controlled by Arch Angel Haniel.”
It probably show us that even with Laura (Emerald) and Maddie( Jade) dying, we had victory. Dale Cooper wears green while living as Dougie Jones because he is victorious.
Source: HERE
  1. Laura Palmer never died
Because of what Cooper did [ entering in his former room 315 at the Hotel Great Nothearn from where that humming sound comes from.] he changed the history of Laura. According to Final Dossier, Ronette Pulaski indeed was with Leo Johnson and Jacques Renault buT she said that Laura was at the woods and never stayed with them, for Cooper appeared in the woods [ Episode 17]. Then, she was reported as a missing person and her father commited suicide 1 year later, in her disappearence birthday. Laura never died but it doesn’t means that she never was raped by Bob or her mother isn’t Judy. Everything happened but never died.
When it happens, the scene goes to Black Lodge, when Mike asks: “Is it the future or is it the past?” and then, no Laura Palmer appears in there. Everything was rewrited.

2024.05.09 08:01 Big_Supermarket4738 Just how good was George Yardley? Why is he ignored mostly?

I've been researching a lot about the 1950's era of the NBA and I am just curious why there is a dearth of material or praise about Yardley. There are some tidbits, like how Bill Sharman says he has a great jumper (seen here: https://www.sfgate.com/sports/article/nba-hall-of-famer-stanford-star-dies-2733810.php )
As compared to, say, the likes of Bobby Wanzer who was a legendary pioneer but not as accurate a shooter or as prolific a scorer as Yardley was (seen here:
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/wanzebo01.html
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/y/yardlge01.html ), other stars who seem to have lesser scoring ability and lesser accolades have more material written about them.
A standout to me was how he's NOT even mentioned in the 25th anniversary commemoration (seen in this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lhgru71MNeo&ab_channel=1avardac ) . The Pistons mentioned are Larry Foust and Mel Hutchins.
My theory: Yardley's not as highly regarded because he peaked when the shot clock was new and rode the statistical surge around it. I think the older generation who watched pre-shot clock stars like Wanzer or Carl Braun (for example) believe they could've done well if such stars had their peaks during the shot clock era like Yardley (instead of peaking during the pre-shot clock era).
Another possible theory I have is maybe to sweep under the rug his accusations that Andy Phillip, his Pistons teammate, rigged the 1955 Finals (seen here: https://www.barstoolsports.com/blog/2265588/on-this-date-in-sports-april-10-1955-nba-finals-thriller ). As seen in the 25th anniversary video, there is zero mention of that or the other controversies (involving Jack Molinas and Alex Groza).
However, it doesn't quite fully explain why there are barely any tributes about him considering that he is also a legend in a prestigious school (Stanford). I can't even chalk it to him having a short NBA career considering that most early legends of the NBA have short careers.
May someone here illuminate why this is so? Thank you!

2024.05.09 04:03 No_Cartographer1492 For the life of me, I can't read hand range "short hands"

Hi, I'm still learning to play (Texas Hold'em, mainly) and decided to sit down and try to learn hand ranges.
After looking around about what a hand range is, I came across a hand range chart from Automatic Poker. I don't know if they are bad, good or great, but I was trying my first time with a "Range editor" and I can't really make sense of the "short hand" used by that website. First let me reproduce a table with the "pre-flop range chart" and then complain/make my question.

Pre-flop range chart

Early position Middle Position Cut Off Button Small Blind Big Blind
Open Raise 3x: 66,AJT,XQT 2.5x: 55,AT9,XJ9 2.5x: 22,A72,XT8 2x: 22,Ax,X76 2.5x: 22,Ax,X76 Isolate Limpers: 66,AJT,XQT
4-Bet 2.5x: KK+ 2.5x: KK+ 2.5x: QQ+,AK 2.5x: JJ+,AK 2.5x: JJ+,AK
Call 3-bet JJ-QQ,AK TT-QQ,AQ+ 88-JJ,AQ 66-TT,AJT,XQJ 66-TT,AJT,XQJ
3-Bet 3x: KK+,T9s-87s 3x: KK+,T9s-87s 3x: KK+,T9s-87s 4x: KK+,T9s-87s 4x: KK+,T9s-87s
Resteal 3x: QQ,AK,A5s-A2s,T9s-87s 4x: QQ,AK,A5s-A2s,T9s-87s 4x: JJ,AKQ,A5s-A2s,T9s-87s
Call Raise 88-QQ,AQ+ 77-QQ,AQ+ 55-QQ,AQT,XQJ 88-QQ,AQ+ 88-QQ,AQ
Call Steal 44-JJ,AJT,XQT 66-JJ,AT9,XQT 22-TT,AT,XJ9
And then, the author tries to clarify the shorthand coding for the hand ranges, clarification that I fail to understand for the most part:
To save space on the charts, I use a common hand range shorthand. It may take a bit to master, but once you do you will appreciate the simplicity.
Here are the guidelines:
- If applicable, pairs come first. You will either see a single pair, like 66 for example. This means 66+ and includes all pairs from 66 up to AA. If you see a range, like 88-JJ, that means 88, 99, TT, and JJ.
- If you see a single hand listed, it includes both suited and unsuited and all hands greater. For example, X9 is all non-pair hands where the kicker is at least a 9. This would include K9s+, Q9s+, J9s+, T9s+, T9s, K9o+, Q9o+, J9o+, T9o+, and T9o+.
- XJT means all hands with an unsuited kicker Jack or better and all suited hands with a Ten kicker or better. So 55+, ATs+, ATo+, KTs+, KJo+, QTs+, QJo, JTs
I don't understand:
Further clarification of each row usage is given, you can check the landing page for the charts to know more.
Please help me understand, I want to put the ranges in the editor and begin practicing but this short handing thing is a stumble block. Thank you!

2024.05.07 17:59 kingofstormandfire These are the Top 6 songs of 1966 according to Billboard's year-end list. Which one is your favourite?

Yeah, so wow, I did not expect The Stones to win by such a blowout. I picked that song as well, but I thought it’d be a bit more competitive between The Four Tops and The Righteous Brothers. Still, a well-deserved win.
‘66 is one of my favourite years for popular music, but honestly, the Top 6 is probably the weakest one of the Beatles era (1964-1970). It’s still pretty damn good (with one exception). Originally, “California Dreamin’” was the No. 1 song on the year-end chart, but Billboard revised the list later on and this wound up being the No. 1 song. I went with the revised list since it made more sense given the chart activity of 1966. It was a tough decision because this Top 6 isn’t as good as the original Top 6, but for accuracy’s sake, I went with this.
  1. “The Ballad Of The Green Berets” (Sgt. Barry Sadler) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWjkeXKPQOI
Oh boy, this song. This is a patriotic song in the ballad style about the United States Army Special Forces. Written and performed by Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler, it was one of the few popular songs of the Vietnam War years to cast the military in a positive light. Many consider this song one of the worst songs to have ever reached #1. Reading up on Sadler, doesn’t seem like a great guy either.
Personally, I don’t hate this song, but the fact that this was the No. 1 song of the year when we have so much great music that’s making the charts is depressing.
  1. “Cherish” (The Association) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9tAdPN3FZ4
This is the first of two No. 1s for the Californian sunshine pop group The Association. It was written by band member Terry Kirkman. For the single released, the song was sped up and one of the two "And I do cherish you" lines near the end was removed. This was done to hold the track to the three-minute mark, as AM radio programmers disliked playing songs that went longer than that (the album version is 3:25). However, even with the edit, the song still ran over. Instead of editing further, producer Curt Boettcher intentionally listed "3:00" on the label as the song's running time.
Their other No. 1 will be appearing in the ‘67 poll (“Windy” is one of my favourite songs of all time, though “Never My Love” is my favourite song by them). I think “Cherish” is a great song, despite some slightly questionable lyrics. I love The Association - a very underrated group that’s been sadly forgotten.
  1. “(You’re My) Soul And Inspiration” (The Righteous Brothers) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzrPs-hLKmM
The 2nd and final chart-topper by the Righteous Brothers. It was the group's first hit after leaving their long-time producer Phil Spector and after leaving Spector’s Phillies Record label, and was written by Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, who had co-wrote their first chart-topper with Spector. The song was arranged by Jack Nitzsche, who had arranged many of Phil Spector's records. Righteous Brother Bill Medley produced the song and imitated Spector's "Wall of Sound" technique with reverbing pop-orchestration and a soaring female backup choir. This was their last Top 10 hit until the mid-70s.
Somedays, I think this song is better than “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’”. Such a good song.
  1. “Reach Out I’ll Be There” (The Four Tops) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUZ3INx3-KA
Written and produced by Motown's main production team, Holland–Dozier–Holland, the song is one of the most widely-known Motown hits of the 1960s and is widely considered one of The Four Tops' signature songs. It was also a UK No. 1. Dozier said that they were strongly influenced by Bob Dylan at the time. For the recording, the writers and producers intentionally put Levi Stubbs at the top of his vocal range, according to Abdul Fakir of the Four Tops, "to make sure he'd have that cry and hunger and wailing in his voice." After the recording was completed and on hearing the final version, the group begged Motown head Berry Gordy not to release it because they thought it was odd for them. However, Gordy insisted that it be issued as a single.
Just an amazing song. What a masterpiece. It gets my vote. I think it’s the winner for this poll.
  1. “96 Tears” (? and The Mysterians) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im6dMLdXI28
A No. 1 hit, and a garage rock classic, this song is known for its signature organ licks and bare-bones lyrics. "96 Tears" is recognized as one of the first garage band hits, and has even been given credit for starting the punk rock movement. The follow-up song, "I Need Somebody", peaked at #22 later that year, but no other U.S. Top 40 singles followed. Various reports have suggested that Question Mark first wrote the song under the title "Too Many Teardrops" and then "69 Tears", but then changed the title, fearing that radio stations would not play the song. However, Question Mark denied this in an interview, stating that the number 96 has a deep philosophical meaning for him. Sure buddy.
I LOVE this song. So catchy. Todd should cover this for one-hit wonderland because this song absolutely rules and I want more people to know about it.
  1. “Last Train To Clarksville” (The Monkees) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OA-KO04_KgM
The first of three No. 1s for The Monkees, a pop group created by TV and music executives to imitate and emulate the style of The Beatles for a TV show and recording, “Last Train to Clarksville” was written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart and was an attempt to emulate The Beatles’ songs such as "I Feel Fine," "Day Tripper" and "Paperback Writer". The lyrics tell of a man phoning the woman whom he loves, urging her to meet him at a train station in Clarksville before he must leave, possibly forever. There is no explicit reference to war in the song, but its last line, "And I don't know if I'm ever coming home," was an indirect reference to a soldier leaving for the Vietnam War.
Great song. My least favourite of their three chart-toppers, but still a gem.
***
Rounding out the Top 10 is “Monday, Monday” (The Mamas and the Papas) (No. 7), “You Can’t Hurry Love” (The Supremes (No. 8), “The Poor Side of Town” (Johnny Rivers) (No. 9) and “California Dreamin’” (The Mamas and the Papas) (No. 10).
Please make sure to listen to the entire Top 6 before voting.

1. Various Artists - Venus Remixed EP 💎 [Stellar Audio]

Recommended if you like: Puzzle, Vici, Cuepric
You guys remember how obsessed I am with Austrian sound wizard Puzzle right? Long-time readers with very good memory will remember how much I raved about his debut EP True Colours back in early 2021, but even those with slightly worse memory might recall my massive enjoyment of his double single on Deep Within in 2023. Ever since Jonas started incorporating his own, wonderful vocals into his fire(le) productions, whether on Empathy Audio, High Tea, or his various collaborations with man like [BORDERS] on FUTURE (might come back to this in a few weeks), I think I've become what scientists call a Super Stan.
Today, however, we take a look at what other talented producers of the techy spheres of the genre have created out of Puzzle's stunningly three-tracking original, the Venus EP on Stellar Audio, back in 2022. If you thought his originals were sick already, you better fasten your seatbelts for what his personally curated remixers managed to do with it, on Venus Remixed, this week's Hidden Gem Of The Week™!
Track 1: Puzzle - Flimmer VIP
As a bit of an appetizer for this rather filling 6 course meal, Jonas goes first and shows off his VIP of the original EP's opener, Flimmer. Inspired by the modern trends of our time, this slight rework takes your usual drop expectations und pulls the rug out from underneath you, not only faking you out, but then hitting you with another short but super hype-inducing buildup, before firing off a fully supercharged version of the original, with each blast of energy going crazier and crazier until things calm down a bit again.
Track 2: Puzzle - Flimmer (Sign Remix)
That's not all the Flimmer action we're getting on here though! For this first third-party remix, Jonas got Estonian multi-talent and -parent Stanislav Bōtskovski, better known as Sign, to sign onto the project. With releases on Sinful Maze, Surveillance Music, In The Lab, VALE and All172Things, he has basically been part of all my favourite underground labels since his debut in 2020, so it's almost surprising it took me so long to talk about him on here! Alongside said label-hosted mayhem-causing madness, he's also been very busy delivering one crazy self-release after the other, sometimes the normal way as Sign, sometimes the collaborative way as ESSENTIE with DMTR, sometimes the more out-there way as PHONEBOT with just his trusty smartphone DAW. However, since said side project took off, he not only gained a whole new appreciation for the flexibility mobile production provides (especially after having another kid), he also realised he could produce tunes just as well on the go as in his studio, so he hit the off switch on poor PHONEBŌT and assimilated the remains into his Sign project.
In fact, this very remix used to be a phonebotleg, until it was turned into the official remix it is now! And who could blame Puzzle for wanting this one included on the package? Not only are the vibes on point during the subdued buildup, the way it launches into this extra groovy, syncopated version of the synth lead, with extra spicy rhythmic pew-pew action happening in the response, is just addictive!
Track 3: Puzzle - Flimmer (Impartial Remix)
For those still holding on to that flimmer of hope for a proper new remix, I've got great news: London-born-and-based Luka Kljutic, aka Impartial took a crack at it too! As Empathee, back when he was just a young lad, his massively filthy jump up selections were already tearing up dancefloors wherever he went, as evidenced by his entries to the Next Hype DJ competitions back in 2017/2018. Over time, he grew to love the more deep and dark roller type beats though, not just for his entry to the Beastwang competition, but also his very own productions, the first of which arrived in late 2018. However, he wasn't quite happy with the branding he had chosen for himself as a teenager and with the arrival of his very first bootleg, of Mura Masa's Lovesick, he took the opportunity to present a brand new him: Impartial! Another couple free downloads later, the Impartial project would go through a bit of a hiatus period though, only picking back up again in 2021 with his bootleg of Concept of Thought's Misty Blue, after which the flood gates of sickness were properly opened. Not only did we get his Stellar Audio debut on the acclaimed Accretion VA EP, Luka also delivered his out-of-this-world (but inside-this-solar-system) Mercury four-tracker, featured on VISION Radio (but regrettably not on here), and his contribution to Soulvent's Soul Music 2022 compilation.
Since then, it has become a little quiet on the release front again, save for a couple free downloads here and there, but luckily, this drought ends now, with, in my opinion, his best work to date, which is saying something! After so much Flimmering, you kind of get desensitised to the catchy melody, leading to multiple remixes in a row risking a sort of "blending into each other" effect, but Luka put so much work into creating unique variations of the lead, even the most worn-down ears will start paying attention again. Not only does the intro take the melody and turn it into an actual orchestral arrangement, full of aggressive strings and all sorts of rhythmic drum action, the evolution the original's call-and-response takes during the drop is simply staggering. The sound design during the relatively subdued calls is so tasty, the way the energy is cranked up to 11 on the response is so satisfying, the back-and-forth between the suave snappy drums and more heavy-hitting ones is just so damn cool, and the energy explosion in the second drop rounds the progression off so perfectly, that this remix has instantly become one of my favourite tunes of the year. Honestly insane.
Track 4: Puzzle - Glow (Moekel Remix)
Jonas didn't just reach out across the European continent for his remix candidates though, he knew he had a couple sick ones right at home too, starting with my go-to underrated artist for years now, Moekel! Straight outta Graz, Austria, Michael has been gracing the scene with one uniquely vibey and/or heavy release after the other, with me covering him a bunch of times along the way. Since last time we talked about him on here in 2022, he's expanded his reach into the scene a lot, finding success on wonderful labels like onesevenfour, DIVIDID (via the WeAreHumans compilation), and now Stellar! For this wonderful collision of two worlds I adore, Moekel brought out some of his finest technical work yet: we've got the pounding 4x4 hype buildup letting us know that this version of Glow is gonna be more in-your-face, the vibey vocals being chopped up and turned into a staccato synth feast for the senses, proper electric energy emitting from the distorted laserbeams in the second half and just an all-around stimulating, forward-driving energy. Moekelicious!
Track 5: Puzzle - Beam (Dub Ten Remix)
Don't worry, we've got more Austriathletes to marvel at on here: Certified Ty-roller Dub Ten has also contri- and de-buted! Since we talked about his most wonderful debut release on here last year, the Empathy Audio ambassador has not just been delivering all sorts of sick singles and even his debut EP on the home label, he has also spread his wings and flown over to the Yamatai and Flexout (or XOU, technically) camps with some rather big chunes - and now, he's adding Stellar to his label rollerdex (intended)! For this joyous occasion, Gabriel took on the synth whirlwind Beam and turned it into a proper club banger. Allow me to explain what the hell I mean with that: Not only did he reign in the synths a bit and packaged them up with an intensely rattling growl for some catchy back-and-forthery, he also managed to bring down the whole crazy emotional energy a bunch of notches by turning the synths into these gloomy versions of themselves, leading to a way more sinister overall atmosphere. Not to mention the aggressive drums and the down-turning bassline that'll make you feel like the plane you're sitting in has just entered a nosedive, filling you with a sense of dread - in a good way! I give this one a Dub Ten outta Ten!
Track 6: Puzzle - Beam (TEK-DIF Remix)
For our last stop here, we've got a name my fellow subreddit enjoyers will surely have seen roaming around a bunch: TEK-DIF! Consisting of Connor Simcox, who used to DJ solo as Simmo and won a The Office-themed pub quiz once, and James Canning, who is too private for me to find anything out about, this Nottingham-based duo has not just been grinding on the production front since at least 2019 now, Connor has also been hitting the promo grind all over the relevant subreddits ever since they joined forces, which is how I first found out about them back in 2020! After a slew of already rather sick self-releases (Inversion is my fav from that era), they landed their debut EP on Forest Biz, and just a year later, their contribution to the woodland venture's Nocturna compilation, Intrepid, got premiered on VISION Radio! They had already been around for a while, but over the next couple years the dynamic duo entrenched themselves into the scene more and more, racking up all sorts of unique, sometimes even multi-genre, releases across Breakbeats & Basslines, Impact Music and the aforementioned tree enterprise, and guest mixes on Subtle and Reprezent's radio shows - eventually landing on Puzzle's radar, leading to their Stellar debut!
They, too, chose to rework the synth firework Beam, but they took a (tek-)different approach. With an emphasis on breaks, in that it both features a lot of wild, breaky drum action and the synths take little breaks in between the onslaught, Connor and James offer not just this package's most rhythmically interesting take on Puzzle's originals, with the rather large bombshell explosions going off everywhere they also manage to rattle you to your very core all at once. Very sick stuff!
Conclusion
Turns out Puzzle isn't just amazing at picking out and putting together incredible sounds to turn them into insanely creative end results, he is almost even better at doing the same with remixers. Of course, this kind of techy sound is rather niche and underground, hence the Hidden Gem status, but as far as I'm concerned, this package is just one instant classic remix after the other. I love all of this so much.
Other techy things from this week: - SiLi - The Journey LP ❤️ (couldn't fit it in anymore sadly) - Dossa - Mamunabu (his solo debut!) - Neezko - Muttnik / Zikade 💎 (from last week but still!) - Rido - Keep Austin Weird - Refracta - Forgotten (Notlost) (that part is part of the actual title and not from me)

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Salvatore Greco announced two ideas (at the time in development) during his press conference in front of City Hall:
+ Archibald Lambda Memorial Fund:
This fund will now be designed to apply for, to receive direct, immediate, compensation, to up to $2000 can be re-imbursed for the victim of a crime. Examples mentioned: Mechanic van towed, kidnapped, shot, robbed, etc. Focused for more petty crimes, where something is not turned into a bigger court case.
+ 45 Day Contracts:
People will be able to blindly bid on a business idea, and will be able to run it for 45 days, and receive wages, directly from the state, based on their request. If it doesn't work, another bid would take place for that temporary business.
‎ ‎
However, the Mayor, Sean Deane, had not agreed to these ideas, which resulted in a text/twitter debate between the two.
One important question answered was that the following Mayors will have 4 month terms.

  • Ballas commit Terrorism
+ Context:
On May 2nd, 10:30 PM EST, the Attorney General was kidnapped from the DMV by the Ballas.
The 4 individuals, Giovanni Gambino, Glenn Armstrong.Jr, Edgar Valentin and Bob American, expressed that this kidnapping was for Greco threatening to go after the Ballas' assets over text and because Edgar Valentin was kept in jail for a long time for Treason.
Before this incident, the Ballas already had gone after Humphrey Montagu Pennyworth for the same reason, and they stated they would keep doing so.
‎ ‎
+ Timeline of events:
Greco was moved to Fort Zancudo, where further discussions ensued. At one point, Glenn accidentally fires his weapon, which causes them to move to a different location, the Chicken Factory.
Of course, while the criminals had Salvatore, the whole police force was on alert for the AG. During his search, Sgt. Nixon responded to a suspicious call of a car-jacking, up in Paleto and, because he was already close to it, Nixon decided to scout the Chicken Factory, a common kidnapping spot.
Nixon spotted a vehicle matching the exact description parked behind the spot.
‎ ‎ ‎ Funnily enough, the car was spotted not even 5 minutes after its arrival to the Chicken Factory.
While the cops were setting up to breach, one of the Ballas heard them, which resulted in a gunfight, with more than 5 police officers going down.
While in the hospital bed, Greco gives his statement to Nixon. His statement, clearly indicates that the Ballas involved were committing Terrorism.

During their bail hearing, two Balla members attacked the courthouse, shooting down two cops.
One of the cops shot down, Ranger Jackson Tyler (zuven_au), died from the gunshot wounds.

  • Burgershot is now inoperable
Because of the increase of rain in Los Santos, the burger on top of Burgershot started to absorb too much water, growing in size.
Multiple civilians and members of the police force came together to try to remove the water from the burger, but their effort was in vain.
A ramp was placed, as an attempt to nudge the burger out of the roof with the force of a vehicle.
After multiple attempts, the roof of Burgershot collapsed and turned the food establishment inoperable.

2024.05.02 21:23 bartelboy Balance of Theme Teams Since Flux

Hey everyone! This seemed to be a well-received post last time I did it back at the beginning of April so I figured I'd update it again. To be honest, I'm hoping doing more of this stuff will eventually reach EA's eyes so that they can be better about balancing theme teams next year, but I understand it's a ridiculous long shot. 2024.05.02 17:27 RFKJR24 The Last Best Hope

President Biden and President Trump have both made it clear that they will not disclose the remaining JFK files, in direct violation of the law.
Let's hear what President Biden had to say first.
The president’s certification, issued at 6:36 p.m. on the Friday before the long Fourth of July holiday weekend, when it would not draw much attention, has frustrated researchers and historians still focused on the most sensational American murder of the 20th century. But they suffered a setback on Friday when a federal judge refused to block Mr. Biden’s order.
Source: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/16/us/politics/biden-jfk-assassination-papers.html
Now, let's hear what Presient Trump had to say on the topic.
"Even he, Trump, held back 20 percent of the documents," Stone told Jack Posobiec of Human Events, part of the GOP nonprofit Turning Point USA. "When I had the occasion to ask him about that, I said, 'Why didn't you let it all out?'.
"He said, 'I can't tell you, it's so horrible you wouldn't believe it. Someday you'll find out.' That was the sum total of it and he didn't want to talk further about it. He kicked the can down the road to President Joe Biden."
Source: https://www.newsweek.com/trump-told-roger-stone-he-wont-believe-whats-classified-jfk-files-1811156:
Now that we're done establishing these facts, they're unambiguous. No one can make an argument that either Trump or Biden will release the JFK files.
Therefore, if you really care about this issue, there's only one course of action. You must vote for Bobby Kennedy.
Especially on Reddit, people will slam this guy. They'll try to make you feel small and stupid for even considering voting for him. But that's how disinformation campaigns work. Everyone here should know this playbook well.
Let's take a look at what Bobby has to say on this topic.
“What is so embarrassing that they’re afraid to show the American public 60 years later?” Kennedy Jr., who is running for president as an independent candidate, said in a statement Monday.
“In the spirit of transparency, in the spirit of democracy, we, the undersigned, call upon President Biden to obey the 1992 act and release the Kennedy assassination documents to the public,” the petition says.
The White House did not respond to an email Tuesday from Spectrum News asking about Kennedy Jr.’s request.

2024.05.02 00:56 kaleviko [All] At the Dutchman's

Crawling through Return's twists and turns, Agent Phillip Jeffries appears to have been present a lot, up to being one of the main characters in the story, just not looking like he did in Fire Walk with Me but on a wild ride of physical transformations for a reason unknown. Oftentimes, tracing his doings appears so vaguely guided that when conclusions are totally fantastical, their seemingly pointless frivolousness makes the whole attempt to figure out the story come across as a mess before an eventual purpose in all that starts to show up.
So they are both supposed to be Phillip Jeffries?
Two abrupt conclusions with little useful value, as it seems, are that the Ray sitting in a diner with Mr C, Darya and Jack in P2 was Phillip Jeffries. Another is that Sheriff Frank Truman, the assumed brother of Harry Truman, was also Jeffries. Separately, these ideas look pointless, but they were probably meant to make sense together.
Let's see how that would work out. In P2, while sitting in the diner, Ray was helping Mr C get certain "information".
Ray: "And I'll follow up on that contact of mine, hopefully get the information you need."
Mr C suspected some foul play was going on.
Mr C: "Kind of funny that she'll only give it to you."
Ray suggested the coveted "information" was held by Hastings's secretary.
Ray: "She's Hastings' secretary. She knows what he knows."
Later in P13, it was revealed what it was that Ray had got from the secretary.
Ray: "You want the coordinates I got from Hastings? Rather, his pretty secretary, Betty? Do you really think I'm gonna give them to you? You really think you could even trust the numbers I give you?"
Then, he suddenly changed his mind and gave Mr C the coordinates on a small piece of paper.
Let's see how Ray's storyline would align with the Sheriff's and how that would then make its own kind of sense.
Following up his contact.
In P4, Sheriff Truman followed Bobby on the corridor and then called his name. This was their first scene together. Turning a figure of speech to a concrete action, perhaps this was indicative of Ray following up the "contact" of his, quite literally.
The purpose of the contact, presumably now identified as Bobby, was to help Jeffries / Ray lay his hands on the "information". In P9, Bobby took the Sheriff to see his mother, Betty Briggs. Coincidentally, she shared the name with William Hastings's secretary who was also said to be Betty.
Betty made it clear that without a "Sheriff Truman" being present, she would not have given a specific old item left behind by her late husband. Since the original Sheriff Truman, Harry, wasn't available, she accepted Sheriff Frank Truman as the substitute.
Betty: "Right after Agent Cooper left that day, Garland pulled me aside, and he said that one day ... our son Bobby, and Hawk, and Sheriff Truman - I didn't know it would be this Sheriff Truman - He said that they would come and ask me about Special Agent Dale Cooper. -- He just said, 'When they come to ask you about Agent Cooper, you give them this.'"
She'd only give it to him.
Betty then handed the Sheriff a hidden tube. The moment was marked as something to think about with a typical glitch as she handed the tube to him with her left hand but after a cut he took it from her right. Then they all started laughing as she went to get them some coffee.
Frank is kind of funny.
The clue it being "kind of funny" that only Ray would get the coordinates may have been about him disguised as Frank while deceiving her. The most famous Frank in Lynch's works is the psychopathic Frank Booth in Blue Velvet, here in possible reference to the infamous laughing gas scene. Lynch himself tells how he finds it "hysterically funny", well knowing that his is not a commonly held view.
A large number of retrospective details suggests that Return might have integrated several of Lynch's works - those that were completed but also those that he only planned - together so that they all became parts of the same story. Thus, it might be that Jeffries and Frank Booth were ultimately meant to be the same person.
Inside the tube, there were instructions on a small piece of paper about how and when to get to a certain place that only Bobby would know about. The paper remained in the Sheriff's possession and was not seen again.
In P14, following the instructions, Bobby led the Sheriff first to Jackrabbit's Palace. From there, they walked to a small golden pool deep into the forest. Now, the Sheriff would have known where the place was, exactly, and could pass the information on to someone else.
The coordinates on a piece of paper.
In P17, Mr C followed the coordinates to the same pool. Thus, the instructions on the little piece of paper from the tube were equal to the coordinates. Like the coordinates, also they were called as "information" by Hawk in P13.
Hawk: "The information that Major Briggs gave got me thinking."
Thus then, it seems that if the idea about the Ray in the diner and the Sheriff both being Phillip Jeffries was figured out as intended, Bobby was the likely "contact" he had to get the information. Disguised as Sheriff Frank Truman, Jeffries would have manipulated Bobby to help him get the coordinates from Betty who appeared as his mother. How much of that storyline was nothing but a fantastical dream is something to think about but quite possibly all of it, like Cooper's juxtaposed face told us in P17 and how Jeffries himself pleaded in Fire Walk with Me.
Now, we could figure out what it was about when Ray first acted like he wouldn't give Mr C the coordinates but then suddenly gave them anyway. As it seems, the situation was about Jeffries giving Cooper some information. That was what Albert told had happened "years ago" when he confessed his involvement in some shady activity in P4.
Albert: "I authorized Phillip to give Cooper some information. -- He called me. -- I thought Cooper was in trouble, at least that's what Phillip said. 'Urgent,' he said. Cooper needed this information urgently."
Jeffries was authorized to give Cooper some information.
Indeed, Mr C needed the information right there and then, holding the presumed Jeffries at gunpoint. Apparently, on another level of existence, as Jeffries got authorization from Albert, that reflected on his alter ego Ray so that his mind abruptly changed and he handed over what Mr C "urgently" needed. But how did that just happen?
You can ring him now. Tell it's urgent.
This was probably enabled by the green ring Ray put in his finger a moment earlier: when you have the ring, you could ring. This was hinted already in Fire Walk with Me when Agent Desmond was looking for the missing green ring, and the Deer Meadow's Sheriff replied there was "a little ring" in their phone.
After getting the coordinates, Mr C wanted to know where Phillip Jeffries was. But Phillip Jeffries would have been right there in front of him, even if in this story he might not have been aware of himself any more.
Mr C: "Ray, where's Phillip Jeffries?"
Ray: "Last I heard, he was at a place called the Dutchman's, but it's not a real place --"
Mr C lifted his pistol and shot a bullet through Ray's head.
Mr C: "I know what it is."
A "dutchman" is a kind of repair in which a broken part in an element, usually something made of wood, is replaced with a piece of the same material so that the outcome is as seamless as possible. Lynch being an avid carpenter, this might be what we needed to think about.
The room above the Convenience Store.
The place where they were, the upper level of the Farm, was implied to have been a manifestation of the room above the Convenience Store where the spirits met in Fire Walk with Me, both with wooden floors and makeshit coverings on the windows. The wooden armwrestling table would have been an equivalent of the formica table that had The Arm and BOB seated opposite to each other, just like Renzo and Mr C were in P13.
For an unknown reason, the surface of the formica table was broken so that a round piece was missing. Perhaps that was where the green ring had originally been cut from. This would link back to the idea about Jeffries calling Albert with the ring as Mr C placed two mobile phones on the table. Muddy told him there was no reception there but he may have known how to fix that.
Fixed it with a dutchman.
We got multiple good shots of the table's worn-out but otherwise flawless wooden top as if we needed to notice something. The twist probably was that there was nothing to notice: if it was the same table as its formica counterpart - even if having a reimagined appearance for the purposes of this story - the broken part had not carried over, possibly because someone had already fixed it. A fix like that would have been a great dutchman's patch because there was no sign of it ever having been broken.
Thus, the place by the table where they were would have been "the dutchman's", the room above the Convenience Store, the place that was not a real place because there was no second floor above the Convenience Store, like seen in P15. And so, just as Ray connected Jeffries's whereabouts to the dutchman's, Mr C realised they were one and the same and did to him what he planned to do to Jeffries, putting a bullet in his head.

2024.04.30 01:05 kaleviko [All] Respect

In Return's opening episode, there was a little riddle around Otis Redding. First, the Horne brothers quoted his song Respect.
Jerry: "Are you banging her yet?"
Ben: "Oh, Jerry! R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Respect. She's a beautiful soul. And she's married."
Jerry: "That never stopped you before. Sock it to me. Sock it to me. Sock it to me. Sock it to me."
Later in the episode, Mr C parked his 2015 Mercedes-Benz S 550 Coupé and forced himself past Buella's doorman Robby by socking it to him. Inside, there was a man sitting by the door.
Otis: "Well, lookee here."
Mr C showed him some respect.
Mr C: "Otis."
A moment later, Robby got back in for some more, and Mr C socked it to him again. Robby fell unconscious on the floor. Upon leaving with Ray and Darya, Mr C turned to acknowledge Otis once more, ignoring everyone else.
Mr C: "See ya, Otis."
Lookee here at these flayed jackrabbits.
Otis urged to "lookee here". He was framed together with what looked like jackrabbit skins hanging on the wall. Regarding how there later in P14 was a rotten tree stump named by Bobby as the Jackrabbit's Palace, we probably needed to make something out of jackrabbit skins, guided by Lynch's Rabbits that had a humanoid rabbit called as Jack, literally a man inside a rabbit suit.
To get a jackrabbit skin, the animal needs to be flayed first. Later in P5, Steven Burnett got another kind of flaying when Mike Nelson asked him to his office for some very harsh feedback.
Mike: "You think you're some sort of hotshot?"
Steven: "Excuse me?"
Mike: "This resume is one of the worst written I've ever seen, and you didn't even fill out this form properly. Not even close. It's incomplete. It's worse than sloppy. I wanted to see you to tell you that if you ever want to find work anyplace, then you better get your act together, do things properly, and start showing some respect for a possible future employer, because based on this shit, you'd never get hired here, and I would never recommend you for any work, anyplace. Now, you can get up and get your ass out of here."
Mike's demand for respect hinted the connection from one flaying to another may have been recognized as intended. Steven got his resume, walked out of the room and slammed the door closed. A man waiting in the lobby turned to look at him.
There was a cut to Mike who was looking towards the entrance. We heard another slamming sound but we didn't actually see Steven leave. Mike gave a comment that felt out of place.
Mike: "What an asshole."
Steven might have been incompetent and but he wasn't behaving like an "asshole". But perhaps that wasn't about Steven but about the uncredited man who was standing in the lobby, also in the line of Mike's sight.
Going back to Buella's place, when Mr C approached her house, Robby was just coming out of it. Through the open door, we could see Otis sitting inside. When Robby went back in and got it socked to himself again, his rifle remained theatrically across his unconscious body. A quick closer shot of him and his rifle was a bit dark but the firearm very much looked like a Stevens 311.
A jackrabbit can also be called as just jack. To jack means to rob, connecting jackrabbits and Robby and thus also Robby and Steven, flayed like the rabbits.
The \"asshole\" (3) has arrived.
These seem to add up to a typically outrageous twist that the scene between Mike and Steven continued in P1, with Mike now as Otis and Steven as Robby who had just got flayed, hence the jackrabbit skins next to Otis. Steven would have got smacked in the face by the man with the suitcase in Mike's lobby, the assumed "asshole", Mr C's equivalent in that scene.
This would connect Mr C to another man with another kind of Mercedes-Benz, the Polish Accountant, who started a conflict with Hutch and Chantal about his blocked driveway in P16.
Chantal: "We're not even close to your fucking driveway, asshole. Go fuck yourself!
It should have been on the way already.
These two German cars would also be narratively linked through Andy's Rolex seen in P7. The wristwatch fit the Log Lady's riddle about a star turning and the time presenting itself, the star being the three-pointed Mercedes-Benz logo that matched the hands on Andy's watch when turned a bit clockwise.
An option for a high-school graduate.
On Mike's desk, there was what looked like the word "OXFORD" on a document over which he threw Steven's resume, with only its last two characters "RD" fully visible. After a cut, the resume had jumped to a different place, the usual inconsistency suggesting we needed to pay attention.
We got these same letters also in the previous scene when Jerry was having his "Respect" talk with Ben.
Jerry: "R&D, brother Ben. It puts me in a groove, and where it stops, nobody knows."
"RD" were the initials for Ray and Darya that Mr C was getting from Buella, them being "back there somewhere", which was also where Mike's office was.
He got R&D back there somewhere.
Another word for the kind of flaying that Mike gave to Steven is flogging whereas "RD" is also the common abbreviation for a road. This would suggest the place - whether it appeared as Mike's office or Buella's lair - was linked to the logging road on which Andy went to wait for Farmer to get the "whole story" in P7.
He had to clear his driveway first.
All kind of things seem to have happened on that logging road. Arriving there, Andy was probably taken by Farmer's alter ego, the Fireman, for the session seen in P14 whereas an entirely different person took Andy's place on the road. This person was possibly the Polish Accountant from P16 whose Mercedes-Benz connected to Andy's Rolex and whose last whereabouts in Lancelot Court appeared similar to the logging road. When this Andy then walked to his car and started driving along the logging road, it seems fitting that his Rolex eventually became another kind of Mercedes-Benz while the man himself changed into Mr C. There would probably have been a few detours on the way before that happened, but eventually he would have reached Buella's house.
This may have been where the Polish Accountant was actually headed. To get there, he would need to have passed through the magical roadside jump point that was blocked by Hutch and Chantal's van, that being the "driveway" he meant. These two may also have jumped there from another part of the story, using that same magical gateway that took them to Lancelot Court.
Since the Polish Accountant seems to have been Agent Phillip Jeffries, this would suggest that the Mr C who got Ray and Darya was also Jeffries, explaining how these two got involved with him. At this point, Jeffries would have been in control of Cooper's doppelganger, but he'd lose the doppelganger at a later point to someone else.
If these were the conclusions we needed to make, Steven would have been back to Mike's office sooner than he expected, this told to us as him now lying unconscious on the floor in front of Otis - that is, Mike Nelson.
From the Rabbit City, after flaying and socking.
Socked twice, Steven might have learnt some respect that Mike demanded. The story being true to the absurdity of forces of existence, it seems that what happened next was Mike agreeing to give the younger man a job and these two turning into Buckhorn police Chief Mike Boyd and Detective Don Harrison from Rapid City, the word "rapid" sounding the same as rabbit, in reference to Otis's rabbit skins. The name Don would have been in reference to what looked like the word "OXFORD" on Mike's desk since a college head in Oxford is called a don. On his way out, Steven was taking his tie off, and Harrison didn't wear one. When Harrison and the other Mike first appeared in P1, they walked next to a window between two rooms, just like Mike's office had.
Hotshots.
Harrison may have become more respectful, but he still behaved like a hotshot. Another kind of hotshot is a nighttime freight train that was shown before a scene in a diner in P2, with a car passing by the motel's exterior shot continuing the train's movement. Mr C, Ray and Darya had been joined by some Jack who wasn't otherwise introduced, unless then the shot of the hotshot was his intended introduction, suggesting he was Steven.
If the Jack in the diner was meant to be Steven, then the scene would have taken place before his "flaying" - that is, he still had his "jackrabbit" skin on since he was Jack. This would have been some time before Mr C went to Buella's to get Ray and Darya who awkwardly and obediently joined him without any personal items at all.
That man hadn't eaten for days.
In the diner, now a much more talkative Ray had a brown leather jacket that he wore this one time only. He didn't seem to have touched his already small meal. Then, Mr C gave him an ominous reminder.
Mr C: "If there's one thing you should know about me, Ray, it's that I don't need anything."
This would link to the later scene in the same episode when Mr C started kneading Jack's face like it was dough, implying that Jack was "nothing" because he wouldn't knead anything, the pronoun used as a meta reference to Phillip Jeffries who didn't really exist any more, like Cole put it in P17.
After Jack got kneaded, it seems he lost his head and turned into the decapitated well-risen body found in Ruth Davenport's apartment: the coroner named the corpse as John Doe, connecting it to John's diminutive Jack whose face Mr C kneaded like he was dough. Yet, in the diner, it was pointed out Jack had eaten a lot whereas the coroner said the headless man had not eaten for days.
Earlier in the story, he got more hair.
Ray's leather jacket connected him to the Polish accountant who also wore a similar jacket. The Accountant's grey tie and purple shirt were also reflected in Ray's purple-grey striped shirt.
Because this Ray didn't eat and because Mr C warned specifically him about what he later did to Jack hinted there were further switch-ups in this wild conga line of surreal twists so that the Jack by the garage was actually the Ray from the diner. By then, Jack would have got flayed, and Ray had put Jack's "skin" on himself.
If this winding path had indeed been followed as intended, this Ray would also have been Jeffries while the Mr C in the diner was someone else.
Ray revealed he had a secret "contact" that he was going to follow to get the information Mr C wanted from Hastings's secretary. Finding that contact would help us figure out what happened next.

2024.04.29 17:23 bluelizardK The Unsolved Oregon Coast Killings

The expanse of rocky shores, pristine beaches, and stunning sapphire waters are a point of pride for Oregonians in every corner of the state. In summer, the coast is warm and inviting, a refuge from the sweltering heat of inland communities. The sunlight shimmers off of the indomitable Pacific's rolling waves, making the horizon sparkle like a gemstone. But the mighty ocean is merely slumbering. When autumn arrives, it awakens, sending gargantuan waves laden with detritus onto the once crowded shores. Thick fog hangs over every surface, and the rain falls in windswept torrents. Douglas firs sway overhead, sentinels that have stood watch over the land for decades if not centuries. The fury of nature is frequently on display, and it provides a different sort of breathtaking beauty.
The coast is inviting. Many an Oregonian goes, whether for a weekend getaway, a stay in a rental property, or a holiday camping trip. But such a wild and untamed jewel of nature hides mysteries, veiled within the Pacific fog. One of these has haunted investigators, locals, and three grieving families for the past three decades.
On October 13th, 1992, two sets of skeletal remains were discovered in an isolated, wooded location just off of U.S Highway 20 near Newport, Oregon. They would be identified as two missing girls who had disappeared earlier that year-- 19 year old Sheila Swanson and 17 year old Melissa Sanders. Though no specific cause of death was released, the medical examiner asserted that the two had met with foul play. Sheila and Melissa had gone missing while on a camping trip with the Sanders family that past May. They were both from Linn County, in Oregon's Willamette Valley, which was a several hour drive back up Highway 20. Though some authorities had considered the girls runaways, Sheila's mother insisted that such a thing was impossible. Sheila had epilepsy and hadn't taken her medication with her-- something she most assuredly would have done had she left of her own free will. The discovery of the remains were undeniable proof that something horrific had happened to them after they had briefly left their camping site at Beverly Beach State Park. Though authorities chased all sorts of possibilities, the case very quickly became cold with no witnesses, no suspects, and few appreciable clues as to the girls' activities that day.
In 1994, a police station in Newport was subject to an unusual sight-- namely a man carrying around a human skull. After he had set it down, the man explained that he'd found the skull near an abandoned car east of town, a car which had become a well known spot for local kids partying. Strangely enough, some kids who had been at the site just a few days before the skull was discovered denied seeing anything of the sort there. The lack of any reports regarding the lurid find at a spot known for congregation led the police to a peculiar revelation. Someone had dumped the carpet-wrapped skull at that location within a day of the man discovering it. Dental records revealed that the skull belonged to Kelly Disney, a 17 year old Newport girl who had disappeared in 1984. Kelly, after an argument with her boyfriend, had left his car and began walking along Highway 101-- and though spotted by several people including a sheriff's deputy, soon after disappeared completely. Though large scale searches were held, no trace of Kelly was found until her skull was dumped 10 years after she vanished.
16 year old friends Jennifer Esson and Kara Leas were walking home from a friend's house after a night out in January 1995. After heading towards Highway 101, the pair were never seen again. A logger, traveling down a densely wooded road near Newport, came across their bodies several weeks later. Someone had strangled them to death, dumped them in the woods, and covered the bodies with brush in a presumably half assed attempt to conceal the crime. It was a shocking case, that left the local community in shock and in grief. Much like the cases of Melissa, Sheila, and Kelly, it soon went cold with nary a lead or suspect in sight.
The Suspects
When these cases were reexamined in the mid to late 2000s by the Newport Police Department, there were suspicions that a single offender may have been responsible for all five murders. In fact, a compelling suspect came up. He had been in the area before, had a disturbing history of committing horrific acts, and had actually died in custody several years before at the OSP. He was a Texan born drifter by the name of Bobby Jack Fowler.
Fowler was an itinerant man, who went from city to city, working different odd jobs to make ends meet. He had been married, had fathered several children. But one of the few constants in his life seemed to be his incessant drive to commit crime, both petty and violent. In 1969, Fowler had killed a couple in Texas, but was only convicted of improper use of a firearm. He hopped from state to state, sometimes getting arrested but never spending too much time behind bars. He reportedly had a bad meth and speed habit, and was known to have committed a handful of violent crimes including sexual assault. 1974 was the year when a young woman named Colleen MacMillen had been found murdered on a logging road in central British Columbia. Fowler would later be tied to this murder and several others in the province through DNA. He had imprisoned and beaten a woman in Tennessee, but frustratingly received little to no actual punishment. In 1995, Newport Police responded to a woman who had fallen from a balcony. She was terrified, naked, bleeding, and has ropes tied around her ankle. She testified that the man in the apartment she had just escaped was responsible for abducting, sexually assaulting, and brutalizing her. That man was Bobby Jack Fowler, and finally he would be given a meaningful sentence that would ultimately put a permanent end to his reign of terror-- 16 years in the Oregon State Penitentiary.
Police were convinced that Fowler was their phantom serial killer-- and his history made the hypothesis far from unrealistic. But police would discover a new suspect-- specifically in the case of Sheila and Melissa.
From the 1960s until the 1990s, Oregon's stretch of U.S Highway 20 was stalked by a monstrous predator whose bloodlust and perversion knew no bounds. The Oregonian has an incredible piece on this man, titled Ghosts of Highway 20, but it's important that I briefly summarize who he was. The long cold case of Kaye Turner, a mother who was killed while jogging, had long been tied closely to a mechanic by the name of John Arthur Ackroyd. Ackroyd was tied to a sexual assault decades prior. He was the prime suspect in the disappearance of his daughter, Rachanda Pickle, whose body was never found. Vital to our mystery is that he hung around in the same circles, oddly enough, as Melissa and Sheila. The day after they had disappeared he had come into work bloody, claiming he had gutted a deer. He was supposedly aware of Melissa and Sheila's camping trip and even offered to let them party at a property he had near Newport. An item found near the skeletal remains was a tool frequently used by mechanics. Vitally, the girls were found in a wooded area off of Highway 20, which Ackroyd had centered his life around. He lived in towns like Sweet Home and Santiam Junction. Kaye Turner, who he was later convicted of killing, had been killed near Black Butte along the highway. Most disturbingly, Ackroyd was posthumously tied to the murders of a young couple found in a wooded area just off of the highway. There was a chance that he was a prolific and relentless serial killer. But tellingly, the district attorney in Newport was nearly about to charge Ackroyd with the double murder, citing circumstantial evidence and witness testimony about his behavior the day after. But he elected not to, as Ackroyd would be in prison for the rest of his natural life.
So if Bobby Jack Fowler potentially killed Jennifer and Kara, and John Arthur Ackroyd potentially killed Melissa and Sheila, then what of Kelly Disney?
Some assert that Robert Ellis, her older boyfriend, was the culprit. She has argued with him that night, and he was obviously in the area. He had, at least, a conceivable motive to commit the murder. But in my amateur opinion I don't quite buy it. Why would he dump the skull in a semi-public area a decade later? If he had committed the murders as a spur of the moment decision, then surely he wouldn't cause renewed attention to fall on the case years afterwards. Fowler is a reasonable suspect, but I frankly believe Fowler could be a suspect for dozens of unsolved crimes all over America in some fashion. Ackroyd could not have been involved, as he was serving a life sentence for the murder of Kaye Turner when Kelly's skull was dumped. Of course, it could be anyone. Some random itinerant killer like Fowler. A trucker who happened to be passing by in both 1984 and 1994. Or a local, who committed the crime and decided to relive it by discarding a morbid memento.
We can hope with advanced investigative techniques these days that one day each family will be able to find a sense of closure and comfort in at least knowing who took the lives of their daughters. Until that day, we can't let these cases fade into obscurity.
