This is my very first Reddit post after years of lurking, so hello all! For context, my husband and I bought ebikes today to get back in shape. I purchased a Tenways CGO600 Pro, which will arrive sometime late next week. My husband got a used Electra Townie Go 8i.
I rode his bike around today and it’s raised a question for me about how the Tenways handles on hills. I’ll start by saying I have read all the other super helpful posts about hills but have a bit more of a specific question.
We live in the suburbs that are pretty flat, but there are one or two hills that clock in at around 6-8 degrees of incline. On my analog bike, in my current condition, I’d probably end up walking the bike. When I drove the Electra, I made it up the hill on gear 4. It was definitely work, and my legs felt the burn, but I didn’t feel like death on wheels.
The Electra has gears (although I didn’t really change gears much when I rode it) a mid-drive motor, and cadence sensors. The CGO600 is a one speed with a rear motor and a torque sensor. So I know it might be comparing apples to oranges, but I’m wondering how the CGO600 will do on the hills?
I took it for a test ride and it handled a smaller incline just fine and overall it felt great. But I’m nervous about the 6-8 degree hills and how the bike will fare, now knowing how it feels on the Electra. I know I’ll find out next week when it gets here, but I figured I’d ask if anyone has any thoughts on how it might compare to the Electra (especially considering I didn’t put the Electra into low gear when I did the hill)

I got black out drunk last night and did mushrooms at birthday party. Woke up in a pool of orange juice. The stains won’t come out. I also made a fool of myself at the party. Funnily enough, I’ve been thinkin alot about suicide today. I don’t know where this story is going. I feel like an idiot. I also have anxiety. I can’t talk to people sober. When i talk i don’t even make sense. I barely open my mouth. I mumble. I live in a small town. everyone knows everyone. I look like a druggie. I am a druggie. And everyone knows im a druggie. I am really into music. i hate myself and want to die. Thats a nirvana song. I am behind my peers in life. My brother is dead. I had a girlfriend. She tried to kill herself. I was unemployed for 3 years. i am told that i am physically attractive. (Not just by my mother.) I have never told my parents that i love them. I’m not sure if i do. Talking to women gives me panic attacks. I hate eating in public, i hate seeing people i vaguely know in public. I hate surprises. I love feeling sorry for myself. I’m extremely pessimistic. Animals are very affectionate towards me. Narcissists can smell me from a mile away. They befriend me, then fuck me in the ass. I exercise daily. Eat healthy during the week. Get 8 hours of sleep a night. Meditate 30 mins a day. Take cold showers, Do exposure therapy (not as much as i should.) Anxiety has ruined my life. Im 25 now and things are only getting worse. My grandad stuck a garden hose in his car exhaust. Can you guess what happened next? i was 8 years old when i overheard my mother say “op is going to end up just like him.” I think she was right.

I will not be specific as I want to remain anonymous out of fear of this being discovered by whoever is mentioned here.
As of right now, I am an autistic high schooler (with potential/undiagnosed BPD) being forced to take band and marching band by my parents. I have all A's and a perfect GPA of 4. Don't get me wrong, my parent and their current romantic partner are fine. I have a roof over my head and food on my plate. The thing is, doing band has made me miserable and I can't quit, but I don't know if it's my fault or theirs.
Right now, I am unable to quit either of these programs because my parent and their partner (I'll call them P1 and P2) literally overlook the entire program. P1 is the band director and partner. P2 is the colorguard director and my bio parent.
I've been forced to do marching band since I was 8. It's an understatement to say that I hate it. The people there are fine. It's playing the instrument and performing that really ticks me off.
I've been forced to do band class itself since 6th grade (during COVID times, you can imagine how that turned out, right?) I still hate it. In 8th, I managed to convince a legal guardian of mine to not make me sign up for band class. When I broke the news, P2 accused me and LG of "conspiring against them." But, in all honesty, after marching season was done that year, the rest of the school year was absolute bliss for me. I got work done so much faster because I never had to worry about music. I did so many personal projects on top of all my school work which I always finished in class. I made more friends not doing band. I felt so good.
Fast forward to now and I dread the upcoming HS years with a burning passion. I don't even get a full summer break as band camp stretches all through July to the beginning of school in August. 9am to 4pm days of nothing but music, and I loathe it. Playing music is my kryptonite. It's the one subject I can't wrap my head around. Math? Easy. Reading? Even easier. Hell, I'd rather write a 5 page essay every week rather than attend band camp. It just doesn't click for me like other subjects.
But my reasons fall on deaf ears. To quote P2 "You like listening to music, playing it shouldn't be any different!" (Yes, they said that. Yes, it's as stupid as it sounds.)
P2's reason of forcing me into band programs is still unclear to me. If it's because I'm a hermit, I made friends in literally any other place than the band room. In fact, I feel more ignored there even when I try to participate in conversation. With every other student, P1 is oh so friendly, laughs with them, and whatnot. But when I open my mouth all I get is a "yeah" or "ok" before they turn around and talk to the other students (which are all mostly cishet white males with the exception of two people.) I honestly just started to shut my mouth again after that. It's also not fun living with that same person.
If their reason was because band could get me a good education, I'm completely capable of that on my own. Like I said, I have a perfect GPA of 4. I'm certain I can do almost anything. And yes, there are a multitude of things I would absolutely persue if band didn't take up my time. Art is my specialty. I've been practicing since a very young age and I've become quite decent at it. Writing is another passion. If neither of those work out, I want to do Psychology, science, or learn computer science, coding, and game design.
At this point I'm directed to think P1 is forcing this onto my because my older sibling also did band, but we're two completely different people. I'm not made for band.
If anything, it stresses me out more. It takes me weeks, at worst a month to even learn the music I'm presented with, and most of that time is spent procrastinating because I really can't bring myself to do it. If it has notes, I have to write each letter down or else I'll never ever learn it.
I feel like I'm justified for hating this program the way I do, but I can't tell if I do or if it's just my attitude. Am I in the wrong? If I'm not, what do I do in a situation like this? Telling a counselor most likely wouldn't help because is most likely they won't do anything because of P1, and it's not like the drama will end when I go home. I'll most likely get betrayed by P2 (and I've had enough of that for a lifetime.)

So I went on a surprise trip with my bridesmaids that they planned and paid for. It was such an amazing surprise and I was so grateful and floored. My wedding planning was awful and I (33F) had a lot of weird competitive friends trying to make my wedding events about them - I was very stressed by everyone’s behavior and had a hard time setting boundaries. During this time, I had just moved out of state, started a new job, and was planning my wedding by myself, and then having to deal with everyone’s petty drama for a year (re: grown women telling me to my face they had better be my maid of honor prior to my engagement). So when this trip came around I was stunned….Unfortunately, to keep it short, it was a disaster. One of my best friends told me privately (at a round table at dinner) that I wouldn’t be a bridesmaid in HER wedding, despite telling my now husband at our engagement party she was “practically the MOH” (37F) when I chose NOT to have a maid of honor so as not to hurt feelings. Another close friend (45F) had a screaming, crying fit in the middle of Harry Potter World (yes, how horrible, I know)… fled the park for 8 hours, and then confronted me in our hotel where I was subjected to her screaming at me about how she hates parks, lines, roller coasters, and girls trips. She never apologized and pretended it was fine the next day. It was honestly traumatizing. Afterall, this isn’t a trip I had asked for. My wedding was 3 weeks after this. Everything was beautiful and happy… but the friendships never recovered. AITA for removing them from social media after a year of no contact from each friend (on either side)?
Edit: these are all mostly professional theatre people so the competitive nature might make more sense.

Hello! I posted here before about being nervous about going to a convention. (I ended up not going, but that was due to hobby drama rather than concerns about infection, and since then, I’ve been able to get on a plane! It was for a medical procedure, but I still had a lot of fun looking out the window, staying in a hotel, etc.)
I’m concerned because I had to take off my K95 mask to get a MRI. (Something is wrong with my spine and/or skull, which is a pretty common complication for the genetic condition I have.) I was given a surgical mask, but it didn’t really fit. The technician wore a surgical mask too, but I’m not sure if that did anything. Theoretically, I'm more likely to die from not treating whatever's going on with my spine, but I still wish I'd been more careful.
What can I do to reduce my odds of getting sick if I’ve been exposed? I have Paxlovid (my lung specialist wanted to make sure I have it if I need it) and an oximeter under my bed, as well as my cardiologist’s contact info if I need to be admitted, but I’d rather things not get to that point. I’ve been chugging orange juice and eating elderberry gummies, but I’m not sure what else to do.

I was born in Chapel Hill at UNC and despite spending most my of youth growing up in the section 8 housing, or "the PJs", slang for "the projects", in Benson I spent a few years living in Garner. I lived in the apartment complex, and the apartment literally, across the street from the public library (where I spent an insane amount of time with my friends after RuneScape was released). We used to print Dragon Ball Z pics off there at $0.10/copy, though we did print off a lot more than we paid for because those sweet old librarians loved our long haired up to no good asses, and sold them for $0.25/copy at North Garner middle where I was going to school at the time.
I was still living with my biological mother who in hindsight is the human equivalent of dumpster juice. She sucked the joy out of every room she stepped in and made my life hell. So one night, laying in my top bunk in the apartment across the street from the Garner Public Library, I felt a sense of restlessness and a longing to just get away. I yelled out in a pain that I concocted in my brain and began to wrench and flail in the most sincere and agonizing pain that I could pretend to feel. I heard the pounding footsteps of an angry parent approaching my door so I doubled down. "What is it now?", the she-beast asked angrily. It took a good 45 minutes of my most convincing performance before she acted like a mother and drove me to the children's ER at WakeMed. I was exactly where I wanted to be; away from "home" and with unimpeded access to Crash Bandicoot on PlayStation in the lobby. But the real prize was after getting called back: movies, ice cream, jello, pudding, video games, nurses being so nice to you. I had it made. But that fun would ultimately come to an end as they found nothing wrong with me.
Fast forward a day and I am laying my top bunk and......OMG IT HURTS AGAIN. Screaming and crying in pain that I had once again faked just so I could relive the glory days of the previous night. Different from the night before is that after finally being heard footsteps approached my door, not the pounding feet of a woman regretful of having children.
"Is it really hurting that bad, I will call an ambulance", the she-beast asked.

I was still living with my biological mother who in hindsight is the human equivalent of dumpster juice. She sucked the joy out of every room she stepped in and made my life hell. So one night, laying in my top bunk in the apartment across the street from the Garner Public Library, I felt a sense of restlessness and a longing to just get away. I yelled out in a pain that I concocted in my brain and began to wrench and flail in the most sincere and agonizing pain that I could pretend to feel. I heard the pounding footsteps of an angry parent approaching my door so I doubled down. "What is it now?", the she-beast asked angrily. It took a good 45 minutes of my most convincing performance before she acted like a mother and drove me to the children's ER at WakeMed. I was exactly where I wanted to be; away from "home" and with unimpeded access to Crash Bandicoot on PlayStation in the lobby. But the real prize was after getting called back: movies, ice cream, jello, pudding, video games, nurses being so nice to you. I had it made. But that fun would ultimately come to an end as they found nothing wrong with me.
Fast forward a day and I am laying my top bunk and......OMG IT HURTS AGAIN. Screaming and crying in pain that I had once again faked just so I could relive the glory days of the previous night. Different from the night before is that after finally being heard footsteps approached my door, not the pounding feet of a woman regretful of having children.

I've been vicariously getting some drama in my life through this subreddit, because I had a pretty stable gf, parents, job, etc. Never thought my life could get "complex", but here I am at 6am creating a throwaway account.
So for context, me and my gf have been together for 5+ years now, planning the wedding and baby names, neither of us can imagine life without the other. Last year, one of her old high school classmates killed himself. They weren't keeping contact since HS and even then they weren't friends or anything, but it still shook her deeply: that she saw signs and could have kept the contact up and could have helped him survive. It really took a toll on her, she even got a psychologist, and was making some progress with dealing with this trauma.
Enter last two weeks, she randomly meets some guy on some forum. Turns out this guy is also suicidal, and now she can't help herself, she must save this guy at least. She lost all control and sense. Multiple days in the last two weeks, on days when the guy was feeling down, she has been on the phone with him for like 8+ hours. Even 10-12+ a few times, I can't tell exactly because I also leave for work and stuff.. Just right now they have been on the phone since like the early afternoon till 5am now.. They are both crying, she is trying to convince him not to kill himself, etc...
I tried talking to her about making boundaries in this, but these only work on days when the guy is chill. Tried being supportive, tried actually helping. Tried explaining to her that this can't go on forever like this, without being threatening relationship-wise. She also is really trying to convince the guy to get professional help, but (in my opinion!) the guy is just leeching her energy, and he will never change or do anything (good or bad). But she's just trapped in this deadlock, when the guy starts pulling threats, she just can't help but must try and save this guy. All day and all night, getting sleep deprived, barely interacting with me (but "still loving me very much").
I fear that if I just gave her an ultimatum to block this guy, she might likely have guilt for the rest of her life for failing this guy too. What do we do to get back to normal?
TLDR: While GF was still dealing with the trauma of an old classmate committing suicide, she got to know another guy who is apparently on the brink of it. She can't help herself, she must save this guy at least, so now she is spending 10+ hours in phone calls with this guy, while her life and our relationship is falling apart.

2024.06.02 05:44 Solve4XandAskY AITA for not wanting to pay over $1,000 for a bachelor party weekend, when not shown the receipts and it wasn't split evenly.
So for some background information I (32M) was invited to this less than a week beforehand and was not told anything about the expenses even though I had asked how many guys were going and tried to get a rough estimate. I am not even going to the wedding, I wouldn't even want to seriously enough with the destination weddings people. I know the groom but am really good friends with two of his groomsman who are old roommates. Got invited to a house on a lake that they rented out and a boat for two days. There were 8 guys not including the bachelor, some left early and I had missed a night on their 4 day weekend. I have had been to my old roommates bachelor parties pre-covid and the were similar and not nearly as expensive. It was a fun weekend and I only went to catch up with these guys after they have moved and for some fun. Obviously some expenses were expected but not like this. The problem started afterwards when people are making excuses for why they cannot pay their share, they have a wife and kids, leaving the weekend early for work or being between jobs. I don't expect people to pay for a night out when they aren't there but that leads to the next problem. As far as I can tell I'm expected to pay for groceries they ate before I have even arrived. I showed up with 48 beers and 12 seltzers and a bottle of vodka with chips and snacks so it's not like I cam empty handed. I wasn't planning on charging ppl for them since that's always how it played out in the past everyone drank pretty much anyone's stuff now ppl are refusing to pay for drinks saying they brought their own when I know damn well they had some of my stuff. Was I wrong to offer that? Also some people trying to get out of paying is bad enough but also guys are trying to recoup the cost of the gas it costs them to get their make others pay for their bar tab. Hell guys are trying to make the some of the group pay their goddamn lap dances at the strip club and bro that's not a communal expense. Are things just different now I am being told to just pay it because guys in the group are already fighting about this n that. I can afford it but I feel fucking used here and on principle things should be split evenly to begin with and there shouldn't be so much drama and money grubbing over this stuff. Am I being crazy or should I bite the bullet for these friendships.
