Both are known for their short and long-form video content, as we predicted would be more relevant than ever this year.
But don’t underestimate the power of traditional methods either, as word-of-mouth recommendations, online ads, TV, and in-store and online promotions still play a huge part in the discoverability of games, specifically by helping generate trustworthiness, a key feature of successful marketing. Meanwhile, community hubs like Twitch, Reddit and Discord also have a very crucial role in product sustainability and longevity, as another recent survey³ indicated by stating that approximately 67% of gamers think video games help to build communities and many have established new friendships and even relationships through gaming. Assassin's Creed Mirage was released with an Arabic dub that wasn't just for show. Praised for its authenticity, the accurate localisation, realistic voice acting and cultural details transported players directly into the bustling streets of 9th-century Baghdad. The localisation team meticulously recreated the cultural atmosphere. From the way the characters addressed each other to the background conversations, everything felt authentic. This commitment to culturalisation not only resonated deeply with Arabic-speaking gamers, but also garnered respect from players worldwide, earning positive reviews and strong engagement for Mirage (as seen in this TikTok example). Consequently, the dedication to localisation and culturalisation not only enhanced the game but also acted as a powerful marketing tool in itself to promote sales.
Talking about TikTok, recent studies also reveal that the most popular games on the platform have been localised into several languages⁷. As a social media platform that prides itself on its international communities, it’s only to be expected this would be the case. In fact, they recently announced that bilingual ads in Spanish and English are even more effective in promoting content on their platform in the US than English-only ads! And, on top of that, they increased consumers’ perception of brands’ trustworthiness⁸.
So what can we learn from looking at a recent unexpected rising star? And yes, we are talking about Helldivers 2! With very little pre-launch marketing, the game quickly became a massive hit throughout Europe⁹ and other regions¹⁰, and it seems to be managing to keep its popularity thanks to its very well-crafted and unique tone of voice. The game's distinct communication style, a blend of dark humour and military jargon, is a key part of its charm. From the hilariously over-the-top mission briefings to the satire-packed and irony-tinted community announcements, their propaganda-inspired marketing, perfectly localised into several languages, keeps players engaged globally.

The Sinister History of the Word "Moron," Explained
It's much more than just a casual insult.

"Moron" is commonly used to describe someone who has made a decision that is perceived as unwise, or to scold oneself over a mistake or slipup. Whichever way the word is flung around, the origins of "moron" are far more sinister.
The term is attributed to psychologist and eugenicist Henry H. Goddard, who used it to describe “feeble-minded” individuals. It is closely tied to the United States’s involvement in eugenics, a scientific term, meaning "well-born," that describes the belief that the human population can be controlled by breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics. It focuses on eliminating “undesirable” individuals, singling out unmarried mothers, people of color, the poor, and those with disabilities. In the United States, eugenics influenced much of the immigration and segregation policies in the 20th century. "Moron" and other words like it — such as "idiot" — were used to support racist, classist ideas and to advance white supremacy behind the mask of scientific advancement.
According to a report from NPR's Code Switch, "moron" was born of Goddard’s fascination with intelligence and his desire to measure what it was and what it was not. In the early 20th century, psychologists grouped people who fell behind the ideal measure of intelligence into three categories that we now recognize as casual insults: “imbecile,” “idiot,” and “feeble-minded.” Goddard, unsatisfied with the existing terms, coined "moron" to embody both low intelligence and behavioral deviance. None of these endured as medical terms, but at the time they were enough to institutionalize someone and sterilize them as a means to prevent them from reproducing.
Goddard organized patients by disease, habit, or condition, as laid out in his 1911 work, Heredity of Feeblemindedness. He analyzed and coded families with the following qualities: "A, alcoholic (habitual drunkard); B, blind; C, criminal; D, deaf; Dwf, dwarf; E, epileptic; F, feeble-minded, either black letter, or white letter on black ground (the former when sex is unknown); I, insane; M, migraine; N, normal; Sx, grave sexual offender; Sy, syphilitic; T, tuberculous; W, wanderer, tramp, or truant." Goddard wrote of one family: “The offspring of the feeble-minded woman and this feeble-minded man were three feeble-minded children and two others who died in infancy. An illegitimate child of this woman is feeble-minded and a criminal.”
"The idiot is not our greatest problem. He is indeed loathsome. ... Nevertheless, he lives his life and is done. He does not continue the race with a line of children like himself. ... It is the moron type that makes for us our great problem," Goddard said in 1912.
The volume of immigrants coming into the country during the early 20th century was the highest it had ever been. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, between 1901 and 1910, 8,795,400 people immigrated to the United States, primarily from the area then known as Austria-Hungary, Italy, and Germany. It was essential to Goddard's work to ensure there were no "feeble-minded morons" in the bunch, so he sent assistants to Ellis Island in 1913 to observe and identify "morons" according to his methods. As previously mentioned, one of Goddard's methods included a pseudoscientific coded guide that looked something like a family tree. Goddard would study families, code their behavior by letter, and draw conclusions that the feeble-mindedness or blindness or deafness of the preceding generation would affect the children. According NPR's Code Switch, 40% of Italians, Hungarians, and Jewish people that were tested qualified as "morons" and were deported in 1913. Deportations doubled the following year.

Those labeled "moron" could be institutionalized, deported, or sterilized in order to create a race of humans deemed superior by those in positions of influence and power, according to a New Yorker piece on the history of eugenics. Eugenics was widely embraced in academia and even celebrated at the World's Fair. In the first half of the 20th century, this movement in the U.S. led to the involuntary sterilization of around 60,000 people, mostly women of child-bearing age, who were subjectively deemed unfit to reproduce.
Federally funded sterilization programs were legalized in 32 states. The state of Virginia passed its Eugenical Sterilization Act in 1924, and to test the legality of the law, Carrie Buck, a poor 17-year-old girl from Charlottesville, was sent to the Virginia Colony for Epileptics and Feeble-Minded — an asylum for those deemed so-called "morons" where her mother, Emma, had been admitted just a few years prior. Carrie was pregnant as the result of rape and, after giving birth, was sterilized at the colony with no understanding of what was happening to her. The move was backed by law and further supported by the Supreme Court, as demonstrated in the 1927 Buck v. Bell case, in which the court ruled that the sterilization of the "unfit" — including the intellectually disabled — did not violate the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. After observing Buck, her mother, and her grandmother — all poor white women — Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. delivered the opinion of the court, writing, "three generations of imbeciles was enough." This decision has never been overturned.
If this thought process sounds grossly aligned with ideals promoted in Nazi Germany, that’s because it is — but eugenics and the attempt to discontinue “feeble” bloodlines is American-bred. In the 1930s, Nazi leadership turned to American eugenics as inspiration in developing tactics to ensure the erasure of European Jews. In Mein Kampf, Adolf Hilter wrote, “There is today one state in which at least weak beginnings toward a better conception [of immigration] are noticeable. Of course, it is not our model German Republic, but [the U.S.] …”
Southern black women were sterilized en masse, often without consent, for much of the 20th century. It was a practice so common that it received a nickname: a "Mississippi appendectomy." The sterilization of Native Americans occurred as late as the 1980s. While some states have formally apologized for their role in the practice, the desire to control “undesirable” groups still persists among some in the U.S., leaving vulnerable populations at risk.
In May, Sam Benningfield, a general sessions judge in Tennessee, announced that he would offer shorter prison sentences to inmates — a population largely impacted by the nation's ongoing opioid crisis — who would undergo vasectomies or receive the birth control implant Nexplanon. "I'm trying to help these folks begin to think about taking responsibility for their life and giving them a leg up — you know, when they get out of jail — to perhaps rehabilitate themselves and not be burdened again with unwanted children and all that comes with that," Benningfield told CBS News. In July, the judge pulled the offer following protest from health officials and civil rights attorneys, according to The Washington Post.

Across Wall Street and beyond, major banks, asset managers and an assortment of specialized service firms are bracing for the fallout.At JPMorgan Chase & Co., internal modeling shows about a quarter of the currency trades it processes for clients are set to be impacted. Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. is putting clients through a “T+1 simulator” to identify those with potential issues.Institutions including Societe Generale SA, Citi, HSBC Holdings Plc, UBS Asset Management, Baillie Gifford and more say they’re either moving staff, reorganizing shifts or building new systems — and in some cases all three — in preparation for the switch.“There’s a lot of anxiety even just around the technology and the actual way by which settlement will take place,” Amy Hong, head of market structure and strategic partnerships for global banking and markets at Goldman Sachs Group, told the Bloomberg Sell-Side Leaders Forum this month. “There are going to be some mismatches around funding, there are going to be some FX-related issues that we’re going to need to work out.”The world of finance and investment can be famously averse to change, with doomsayers dependably appearing whenever new rules are proposed. Yet in the case of T+1, the concerns go beyond one or two market Cassandras.Just 9% of sell-side firms polled by Coalition Greenwich in April and May said they expect the T+1 switch to go smoothly, with 38% warning that buy-side managers are unprepared, and 28% believing trading platforms aren’t fully ready. Almost a fifth anticipate a large disruption with “many or severe issues.”The consensus view is that trade failures — when either a seller doesn’t deliver securities or a buyer fails to produce payment — are about to rise. The question is how large and persistent that uptick will be.Settlement failures are generally a tiny feature of the modern market, usually stemming from technical issues or human error. Friday Fears

From its Edinburgh headquarters over 3,200 miles from Wall Street, the £225 billion ($285 billion) investment house Baillie Gifford has relocated two traders to New York and beefed up its settlement desk to help the firm stay active after the 4 p.m. US stock close.Thanks to the T+1 shift and a 6 p.m. deadline at CLS Group (a platform at the center of the market that settles over $6 trillion of currency transactions every day), that will become a crucial period for asset managers seeking dollars to fund their US trades. But it also falls around the start of what are known as the witching hours in foreign-exchange circles because of the famous lack of liquidity.

Since moving its staff in January, the firm has been trading as if T+1 was already in force to ensure everything goes smoothly, according to Adam Conn, head of trading.Adam ConnSource: Baillie Gifford“It’s about trying to mitigate the additional operating risk which is falling on asset managers,” said Conn. There will only be a “very short window” after the US market close to resolve problems, he said.Friday afternoon is emerging as a particular area of concern, because currency markets close on weekends, meaning liquidity is typically at its lowest just before the US joins Europe and Asia in clocking off. JPMorgan’s Brijen Puri, head of global FX services, said “neither the buyside or sellside really knows what will happen” in those periods following the switch.“Once there is more data about what's happening in that time zone, that's when banks as well as asset managers may decide on providing more coverage,” Puri said. “Like you have a night desk, you may have a Friday evening desk.”The Foreign Exchange Professionals Association reckons the problem will also be acute at month- and quarter-ends and around national holidays, risking “significantly increased volatility and wider spreads.” Overseas investors acquiring US securities before a local holiday will effectively be faced with T+0 settlement.“There’s 25 to 30 days a year where there’s potentially specific challenges,” said Vincent Bonamy, head of global intermediary services at HSBC. He has organized staffing for “specific holidays on a global basis” to help clients with liquidity provision.For all the preparation, the European Fund and Asset Management Association estimates as much as $70 billion of its members’ daily currency trades may miss the CLS deadline for next-day settlement. Double Jeopardy

The move to T+1 is intended to cut risks at the broker-dealer level of the US equity market, after the 2021 meme-stock frenzy forced retail-investor platforms like Robinhood to restrict trading in certain securities. That was because the collateral they needed to post — the cash to cover trades over the two-day settlement process — threatened to exceed what they could pay amid the surge in volume.The T+1 switch should alleviate such concerns because less collateral will be needed across a single day of risk. It may also improve domestic liquidity as cash in the market will be recycled faster. But it heaps pressure on the processes required to complete each transaction.The new rules require that affirmations are finalized by 9 p.m. in New York on the date of a trade. Data from the Depository Trust & Clearing Corp., which oversees post-trade functions for the bulk of American securities transactions, show that affirmation rate rose to 83.5% in April from 74.95% a month earlier.The firm says that represents “significant progress” as T+1 implementation approaches. But with only weeks to go it’s short of the DTCC’s own target for a 90% same-day affirmation rate.“It’s not actually a compression to 24 hours, but rather five hours, if you think that the market closes at 4 p.m. and you need to affirm by 9 p.m.,” said Pitts at Citi.The New York Stock Exchange on May 14. This has included gauging the industry’s ability to handle a “double-settlement day” like the one that will occur next Wednesday, when transaction volumes will surge as trades from Friday (still using T+2) and next Tuesday (T+1) will need to complete at the same time.The DTCC has added staff ahead of the transition and its plan for this weekend includes “watch events,” where members of the technical and product teams closely follow transaction flow, according to Val Wotton, general manager of institutional trade processing. “We are confident in our ability to support volumes on day one,” he said.

Kinks in the Chain

The US switch to T+1 means it’s leaving other jurisdictions behind, which is a headache for many investment vehicles operating across borders. While Mexican and Canadian markets are also moving to one-day settlement next week, others including Europe remain on slower cycles.In the new system, a US investor selling an ETF should get cash for their shares within one day, but the proceeds from the sale of a fund’s underlying international stocks will likely take at least two days to arrive. And when most overseas investors buy a fund containing US stocks, the new underlying assets should be paid for in one day, even though the payment for the ETF shares may take two or more.It’s the kind of mismatch that has previously existed across various geographies, but never on this scale, and it risks adding friction and operational costs to many investment vehicles.Adding to the pressure, the T+1 switch comes just days before MSCI Inc. indexes rebalance, with corresponding funds all over the world due to reshuffle holdings at the end of next week.“It carries significant volume and stress normally on T+2, requiring massive effort from the system,” said Citi's Pitts. “If you have extra fails from T+1 on top of that rebalance, it could be chaotic.”For UBS Asset Management, it’s the “largest trading date of the year,” according to Lynn Challenger, head of trading at the $1.7 trillion manager.Lynn ChallengerSource: UBS Asset Management“We anticipate a lot more funding requirements” on rebalance day, said Challenger. He said any issues may be compounded by the fact that much of the order flow could be in the same direction. “We’re speaking to brokers to make sure the funding will be there,” he said.To prepare for T+1 more generally, Challenger said UBS Asset has trained up additional US staff so they can generate FX orders and has built a new trading process to facilitate more same-day settlement.Many financial firms have these kinds of robust transition plans in place. The Coalition Greenwich research showed most sell-side respondents were not concerned about the readiness of their own desks. Yet each is connected to others through a string of trade processes, meaning any kinks in the chain could create problems for otherwise well-prepared institutions.“The sellside thinks there will be issues, but it will be someone else’s fault,” said Jesse Forster, a senior analyst of market structure and technology at Coalition Greenwich. “We could be in for a lot of finger-pointing over the coming months.”

Astăzi BIM se află într-o tranziție

BIM (Building Information Modeling), sau ”modelarea informației construcției” în limba română, a devenit un termen oficial în anul 2002, prin publicarea de către Autodesk a Whitepaper-ului cu același nume.
Odată cu dezvoltarea și evoluția conceptului de BIM a început să devină tot mai clar că atașarea informațiilor unui model 3D și citirea lor nu este un lucru facil. Pentru a putea include un volum imens de informații privind construcția într-un model virtual este nevoie atât de o structurare a informațiilor cât și de procese de gestionare a acesteia foarte bine puse la punct.
Așadar, s-au format două premise:
(1) Lucrul în sistem BIM pare să fie cel mai eficient mod de a pune laolaltă toate informațiile privind construcțiile;
(2) Volumul imens de informații generate necesită procese standardizate de lucru, pentru a face gestionarea lor posibilă și fiabilă.
În anul 2018 au fost publicate primele standarde internaționale din seria ISO 19650 care stabilesc un proces de management al informațiilor construcțiilor utilizând BIM pe tot parcursul ciclului lor de viață. Seria de standarde ISO 19650 dezvoltă concepte și procese aferente controlului calității (ISO 9001), managementului proiectelor (ISO 21500) și managementului activelor (ISO 55000), și arată aplicarea lor pentru lucrul cu informațiile în sistem BIM.
În acest fel, am putea zice că BIM tranzitează de la termenul original de Building Information Modeling către Building Information Management.

BIM este mai mult decât modelare 3D

În fazele incipiente de diseminare a conceptului de ”BIM”, se făcea o referire oarecum exagerată la modele 3D. Motivul acestui lucru, am putea presupune, a fost fiindcă acest aspect a prins cel mai ușor, pe principiul ”o imagine face cât o mie de cuvinte”, iar explicarea unor lucruri mai tehnice, precum atașarea informațiilor de elemente constructive virtuale, poate că nu a avut aceeași eficiență. Din păcate, așa s-a ajuns în situația în care, deseori, aducerea în discuție a BIM-ului cu specialiști din domeniul construcțiilor neinițiați se lovește de preconcepții limitate doar la imagini cu modele 3D ale specialităților, suprapuse și colorate în diferite culori. Este însă foarte important să putem duce discuția mai departe și să înțelegem procesele din spate care fac posibilă atât producerea corectă a modelelor respective, cât și utilizarea lor pentru coordonare și nu numai.
Modelarea tridimensională se află, într-o măsură, la baza lucrului în sistem BIM. În același timp, este important de înțeles că vorbim doar despre primul pas. Prin analogie, ar fi similar cu urcatul într-o mașină pentru a o conduce, este necesar dar nu este suficient. Dacă ne limităm la modelarea tridimensională, rezultă un model care nu ne poate ajuta la altceva decât la vizualizarea geometriei viitoarei construcții. Un simplu model tridimensional al construcției nu poate fi utilizat pentru alte scopuri, precum coordonarea între specialități sau extragerea unor cantități. Pentru a putea face aceste activități cu ajutorul modelului, acesta trebuie să conțină informații care au o anumită structură. De exemplu, pentru a putea face o detectare de coliziuni, modelul trebuie, ca minim, să aibă fiecare obiect relevant declarat ca fiind un anume tip de element constructiv; datorită numărului imens de elemente constructive posibile, trebuie să existe un sistem coerent de organizare a acestora. Pentru a putea extrage cantități dintr-un model, trebuie să știm de dinainte tipurile de articole care se vor extrage, să existe o procedură de a introduce codurile articolului pe care-l reprezintă fiecare element virtual și o procedură de extragere a acestor informații în relația cu geometria elementelor respective. Precum a fost menționat anterior, adevărata valoare a BIM-ului este adusă de trecerea de la primul pas – modelarea geometriei, la următorul pas – adăugarea informațiilor. Tot aici apar și principalele provocări legate de implementare.
O concluzie importantă este că:
Un model 3D, chiar dacă a fost făcut într-un software ”BIM”, nu va putea fi folosit pentru alte scopuri, decât să ne uităm la el, dacă n-a fost făcut printr-un proces BIM.

O altă neînțelegere, care rezultă din asocierea BIM cu un simplu model 3D, este că elaborarea proiectului și elaborarea modelului BIM sunt considerate procese separate sau paralele, proiectanții proiectează și modelatorii modelează. Până la urmă, aceasta este modul obișnuit de funcționare a birourilor de proiectare, există un proiect 2D în CAD și un model 3D pentru randări. Pentru mulți, BIM înseamnă în continuare doar un model 3D ”mai deștept” și nu proiectul în sine.
Lipsa înțelegerii a ce este BIM se datorează, într-o măsură, lipsei înțelegerii a ce este informația în era digitală.
La nivel aplicat, pentru a putea lucra în sistem BIM cap-coadă, nu avem cum să evităm necesitatea unor cunoștințe tehnice destul de avansate (dacă nu trebuie neapărat să le avem personal, trebuie să avem o persoană pe care să o întrebăm). Dacă încă nu suntem convinși, putem încerca să utilizăm un ”model BIM” realizat fără un proces prestabilit pentru coordonarea între specialități prin detectarea coliziunilor. O să vedem că ajungem să avem mii de coliziuni între elemente despre care nu știm exact nici ce sunt, nici de ce sunt, nici la ce ne ajută.
O soluție care poate fi implementată ușor, de pe o zi pe alta, sau măcar de la o lună pe altă, încă nu există. Un scenariu ideal ar fi unul în care BIM-ul ar putea fi utilizat ca un ”website”, orice n-ai face pe el, totul să fie compatibil și interoperabil. Din păcate, încă nu am ajuns acolo, chiar dacă se lucrează în această direcție și există progres.
În prezent, dacă vrem să implementăm BIM și să beneficiem de pe urma lui, ajungem la concluzia că trebuie să ne educăm atât în privința aspectelor tehnice ale lucrului în sistem BIM cât și în privința aspectelor de management.

Mai puțin ”BIM” și mai mult ”management al informației”

La momentul scrierii acestui articol, la nivel internațional se poate observa o oarecare tendință de mutare a accentului de la “BIM”, care este o metodă de lucru, la ceea ce numim ”managementul informației” (1), care este procesul de aplicare a metodei respective. Un motiv important care a generat această situație a fost incapacitatea de a aduce la nivelul pieței semnificația adevărată a termenului ”BIM”. Prezumția greșită care s-a înrădăcinat în piață este că un beneficiar poate cere un proiect să fie ”BIM”, iar tot ce are de făcut un proiectant este să elaboreze proiectul într-un software ”BIM”. Simpla cerință de a face un proiect în sistem BIM nu e suficientă, fiincă nu ne oferă nicio informație relevantă privind conținutul modelului BIM. Similar, lucrul într-un software ”BIM” nu este suficient, fiindcă software-ul oferă doar posibilitatea de a îndeplini cerințele BIM ale beneficiarului în cazul în care acestea există și sunt clar articulate. Pentru a ajunge la o înțelegere corectă a termenilor a fost necesară stabilirea unui cadru pentru a putea vedea lucrurile în ansamblu.

BIM include aspecte tehnice dar și de proces, de oameni și de politici (sursă: eubim)
Cadrul respectiv este oferit de aplicarea unui proces de management al informațiilor care, ca majoritatea proceselor de management în general, se bazează pe un parcurs tip stabilirea nevoii – planificarea implementării – monitorizarea implementării. În acest mod, nu ajungem să discutăm despre ”BIM” la general ci doar în legătură cu o nevoie ”Ce anume trebuie să fie BIM în proiect și de ce?”. În urma stabilirii nevoii respective, putem planifica implementarea BIM și monitorizarea ei ulterioară.
Ilustrare la modul general a procesului de management al informațiilor pentru obținerea unui model BIM.
Dacă vom analiza seria de standarde ISO 19650, privind managementul informațiilor utilizând BIM, vom observa că înțelegerea conexiunii între proiect și model se schimbă. Proiectul se referă la toate informațiile necesare pentru a executa construcția, iar modelul la forma structurată de a pune aceste informații laolaltă pentru a le utiliza facil și corect (în proiectare, execuție, exploatare și post-utilizare).
O clarificare care credem că este importantă în acest caz este că asocierea model = proiect nu este o hiperbolă. În acest punct, de regulă, cei care au experiență de lucru în software ”BIM”, dar nu au analizat teoria din spatele termenului, se vor gândi la un model din care se exportă planșe, cantități ș.a. care se pun într-un folder care se arhivează în .zip și se atașează unui e-mail către beneficiar. Este important să înțelegem că nu (doar) despre asta e vorba. Conform standardelor ISO 19650, un model BIM conține toate informațiile privind proiectul precum este și unica sursă de informații pentru părțile implicate. Adică atât fișierul unui model dintr-un software BIM, cât și piesele scrise și desenate extrase din el, reviziile lor, graficul de execuție, situațiile de lucrări, fișele tehnice ș.a. sunt interconectate și formează un tot unitar, care se numește ”model de informație al proiectului” (Project Information Model – PIM).
Pentru multe persoane (precum și pentru autorul acestui articol, acum ceva timp) o astfel de formă a proiectului este greu de conceput. În general, suntem obișnuiți să lucrăm pe servere locale în sisteme de foldere. În acest sens, un folder cu proiectul pare că ar semăna cu acel ”model” despre care vorbim, însă cu o diferență importantă și anume faptul că informațiile nu sunt interconectate, iar tot ce ne face să știm că fac parte din același proiect este folder-ul în care se află. Pentru implementarea BIM conform standardelor actuale de management al informațiilor trebuie să facem un salt către un sistem mai avansat de gestionare a informațiilor. Un astfel de sistem se numește Mediu Comun de Date (Common Data Environment – CDE) care, în termeni extrem de simpli, este un sistem de foldere în cloud cu o serie de funcționalități suplimentare. O descriere mai detaliată a ce este un Mediu Comun de Date și a soluțiilor existente pe piață o vom face într-un articol ulterior.

Modelul BIM ca bază de date

Pentru a duce discuția mai departe privind ce înseamnă BIM astăzi și în ce direcție se va dezvolta, este nevoie să gândim în termeni mai apropiați de tehnologia informațiilor. Dacă modelul BIM al proiectului conține toate informațiile acestuia, într-o formă structurată și interconectată, începem să vorbim despre o bază de date. Modelul rezultat devine o sursă de informații care poate fi facil interogată, în care nu avem informații dublate care ar putea să genereze conflicte, precum evităm situațiile în care ne lipsesc informațiile necesare sau avem prea multe informații de care nu avem nevoie.
Modelul BIM ca bază de date
Proiectul – bază de date devine o metodă mult mai eficientă de gestionare a informațiilor contrucției, care oferă noi posibilități și un control mai bun al tuturor proceselor conexe acesteia. La urma urmei, acesta este rolul digitalizării.

Are there anybody interested in this company? They located in Singapore and participate in many markets, but it seems like mostly in South Africa. However they also present in US and some European countries. Unfortunately, I not found data about revenue per country. This company quite new and I not see 10 years of data, but just 4.
What I found interesting is their stable revenue and net income growth.
On Yahoo their PE is 23, however their last year EPS is about 22 and actually PE seems around 1 https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/KARO. This difference makes me feel like there is mistake in my calculation or on Yahoo. If would PE actually be 1, then valuation seems very low. Is it price for some sort of geopolitic risk?

Flash flooding in northern Afghanistan killed 300+ people and destroyed 1,000+ homes. Hundreds of thousands of others have been affected. Last month, similar floods in the region killed 70+. Four died in Texas storms last week as well.
Venezuela is suffering from record wildfires, which so far this year have burned about 5M acres—almost the size of Sardinia. Some experts think indigenous people started the blaze as an attempt at forest clearance, which quickly got out of hand. “Institutional failures” compounded the disaster when the ailing government responded with an inadequate number of poorly equipped firefighters. Another study from last week examined the impact of wildfires on soil health.
Flooding and “cold lava” killed 50+ in Indonesia, injuring dozens and displacing several thousand. Cold lava is a mixture of water and rocks tumbling down the side of a volcano. Meanwhile, an actual volcano erupted in Indonesia, sending smoke & ash 5000m high; further eruptions are possible soon.
The Swiss Re Institute published a 37-page report last week about natural disasters in 2023—and how much damage, in USD, they caused. The largest catastrophe was the February 7.8 earthquake in Türkiye & Syria, which killed 59,000+ people and caused $163B+ in damage. The report is full of interesting graphics & data about natural disasters.

“Last year, economic losses from natural catastrophes reached USD 280 billion, meaning that 62% of the global losses were uninsured….the insured losses surpassed USD 100 billion for the fourth consecutive year….annual insured losses will grow by 5–7% over the long term…today’s insured losses could double in 10 years….There were 142 insured-loss inducing catastrophes in 2023, a new record. Most were of medium severity, which we define as events resulting in losses of USD 1–5 billion….Over the last 30 years, we estimate that natural catastrophe insured losses have grown by 3 percentage points more annually than the global economy (in inflation adjusted terms)...”

Flooding and heat waves are impacting Brazil’s oranges, responsible for about 70% of the world’s supply. One food analysts declared that the “era of cheap food is over”—in the UK, at least. That may be one reason why UK residents took record food bank packages last year. Madagascar is struggling to adapt to a future with far less rainfall.
France is growing more concerned about a dam on Lake Geneva, controlled exclusively by Switzerland. The Rhône River, which begins in Switzerland and flows south through France, is shrinking in summers as climate change melts Switzerland’s remaining glaciers.
The Tonlé San River has been dammed in Vietnam, lowering the level in Cambodia and sometimes drying the river downstream entirely. Meanwhile, China’s lychee harvest is getting blasted by rain, impacting the world’s largest source of lychee. And, once again, Saudi Arabia is suffering flooding in its inland regions. 7 dead in historic flooding in Iran.
The eminent climate scientist James Hansen posted that, since “human-made aerosols and their cooling effect are in decline,” the cooling effect of La Niña will be counterbalanced by these rising temperatures. He also identifies a “large anomaly of increased absorbed solar radiation at midlatitudes in the Northern Hemisphere” responsible for rising temperatures there. CO2 levels are rising faster today than they have at any point in the previous 50,000 years…and a study of millennia-old trees determined last summer was the hottest worldwide in 2,000+ years…
Record nighttime May temperatures were tied in the Philippines and Vietnam. A couple Indonesian cities broke records for May temperatures. And a number of southern African states saw more records drop. And Toronto saw a record tied for the number of days reaching 14 °C (57 °F). A heat wave has returned to Bangladesh. Flooding in Cali (pop: 2.9M), Colombia.
The University of Washington was ordered to stop a geoengineering project that scientists sere conducting from the deck of a decommissioned aircraft carrier. The experiment ejected aerosolized saltwater in an attempt to reflect solar radiation. A comparative study in Nature Communications of a number of carbon pricing found that, yes, carbon pricing does work to reduce the total CO2 emitted.
It’s that time of the year again. Wildfires in Canada grow, some of which are moving towards the tar sands—forcing thousands to evacuate. 39 of the total nation’s blazes are “out of control,” resulting in air quality alerts in the United States. Meanwhile, across the Caribbean, water shortages have become the new normal, and residents (and tourists) are finding their old consumption habits hard to change. St. Lucia has declared a water emergency. In Myanmar, water shortages worsen, particularly as related to the spiraling conflict.
At least ⅛ of Europeans live in a place at risk of extreme flooding—so says a 175-page report from the European Environment Agency posted on Wednesday. The number of people living in flood-risk coastal areas in the EU & UK is expected to jump 24% by 2050. The graphics-packed report also considers how flooding will impact healthcare facilities, mental health, wastewater treatment plants, the spread of disease, cyanobacteria, permafrost thaw, and much else.

“Europe has seen devastating floods following record rainfall, droughts of magnitudes not experienced in hundreds of years, continuing sea level rise, and increasing lake and sea temperatures….permanent water stress already affects 30% of people in southern Europe….since 2018, more than half of Europe has been impacted by extreme drought conditions….Climate change is expected to increase mercury bioaccumulation in the marine food chain due to rising ocean temperatures, ocean acidification and permafrost thawing….Depression, anxiety and PTSD may persist for years after a flooding event….Under the changing climate, northern Europe is becoming wetter in general, but drier in summer. Southern Europe is becoming drier, especially in winter. For central-eastern and western Europe, the trend is less clear…” -selections from the report

Milan suffered flooding last week, the worst May flooding in 170 years. Early spring in the UK has disrupted migratory bird species and their usual patterns.
A 74-page working paper which is not yet peer-reviewed claims that earlier estimates for how much GDP would be impacted by another 1 °C temperature rise is way less than it would be in actuality. The paper claims the real cost (in USD) is about 6x greater. They claim “global temperature has much more pronounced impacts on economic activity than local temperature” and that extreme weather is mostly behind the projected decline in productivity.

Epidemiologists are worried about how climate change in Africa may extend the life of disease-bearers like ticks and mosquitoes. Other epidemiologists are worried about how cattle may become a permanent reservoir for H5N1. Growing traced of bird flu have been found in wastewater testing in the U.S., but investigators think it may be runoff from infected dairy farms.
Obesity, high blood sugar, and high blood pressure rates today globally are 50% higher than in 2000—though researchers claim that air pollution still poses a larger threat. Of a study participants in Hawai’i, 75% had respiratory issues, probably from the Maui wildfires last year.
The 2024 World Migration Report is out, and its 384 pages are not as apocalyptic as one might think. However, internally displaced people are at their all-time highest. India, Mexico, Russia, China, and Syria lead the world in emigrants; another document contains the definitions for who exactly constitutes a migrant. Unfortunately much of the data relied upon ends in 2022. Data from this year, not included in the above report, indicates a 40% jump in traffic through the Darien Gap compared to the same time period in 2023.

Another report, focusing on internal displacement, came out last week; its 69 pages show a cross-section of about 47M people displaced by natural disasters (56%) or armed conflict (44%). Most of the disasters were storms & flooding, and most of the conflicts were civil wars of some form. This report also provides detailed region-by-region analyses—with sub-Saharan Africa accounting for 46% of global IDPs.

“Conflict and violence triggered 13.5 million movements, the highest figure for the past 15 years….Disasters and conflict are presented as different triggers, but their impacts can overlap, often leading to repeated and/ or protracted displacement….Drought triggered 331,000 displacements in Somalia….Floods triggered 550,000 displacements in Ethiopia….Conflict and violence triggered 3.8 million displacements in DRC in 2023, a slight fall from the record four million in 2022, but still the second-highest figure globally after Sudan….nearly two-thirds of the internal displacements recorded in 2023 originated from Khartoum state. More than 39 per cent of the state's inhabitants were forced to flee, leaving entire neighbourhoods empty….Criminal and communal violence triggered nearly three-quarters of Nigeria's 291,000 conflict displacements….” -selections from the spotlight on sub-Saharan Africa

Experts are concerned about the mental health impacts that climate change has on our minds. Hotter temperatures reportedly increase depression & aggression. Wildfires and storms can cause PTSD. Workers feel stress and desperation as their usual industries are impacted. And air pollution influences ordinary brain processes in many ways.
Some analysts believe “Peak China” may be over, signaling a period of economic tapering-off, as well as a growing militancy. Increasing U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods are continuing to separate the two economies. The Netherlands finally formed a provisional government, though its proposed immigration & farming policies have set it at odds with the EU.
The Federal Reserve, the U.S. central bank, released a 46-page report on potential climate risks to the banking system’s resilience. As far as I understood, most of the risk lies in extreme weather events and the risk to insurance agencies.
Part of southeast England experienced an outbreak of Cryptosporidium, a diarrhea & vomiting illness, highly contagious, which can last weeks. At least 22 cases have been reported. Meanwhile, the CDC is issuing warnings about the more dangerous strain of monkeypox circulating in the DRC, although cases are currently limited to Africa.
North Carolina’s Senate voted to ban mask-wearing last week, under the reasoning that it would make police identification of protestors difficult. An fMRI study found lasting neurological changes in COVID survivors; they “had significantly higher cognitive complaints of mental fatigue and cognitive failure….even two years after recovering.” Experts say a summer rise in COVID cases is coming to the United States.
A study on The Canadian/American Great Lakes found that PFAS levels are increasing in the 3 largest lakes (Superior, Huron, and Michigan), while decreasing in the other two (Erie, Ontario). Planned a trip to Tokyo with my childhood friend, and saw a post of Toshiki's C.U.M concert before our trip 3 months ago. Didn't know it was Ota Gunma (2hrs away from Tokyo) not Ota-ku (Tokyo) until last month. Tickets were delivered but arrived late in Indonesia, so almost lost hope in watching him live in Gunma.
After getting the tickets 2 days late, we asked my friend's sister to scan the PDF tickets. And we went to Gunma on the Saturday.
The seats were filled. And there were no other foreigners except us in the audience, some of the staff members asked us where we were from. With our broken Japanese we said "インドネシア住んでいます". And most of them were surprised to hear.
Toshiki was amazing, he sang most of his new songs, taking a break inbetween 5 songs to talk to the audience. Beginning the concert with "Lovers at Dusk" and ending the concert with "Take you to the sky high".
One of my favorite part of the concert was when during "Take you to the sky high", the audience were asked to make an origami plane, and we began throwing the plane when Toshiki sang the chorus.
The concert was a really cool experience as a Toshiki fan, and I've got to thank their staff and road manager for letting us in with just PDF tickets. Overall, 1200/10, very memorable experience.

CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana and hemp). While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana plant. CBD is a component of marijuana (one of hundreds), by itself it does not cause a “high.” According to a report from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.” For many years, federal law lumped hemp in with other cannabis plants, which were effectively outlawed in 1937 under the Marihuana Tax Act and made “officially” illegal in 1970 through the Controlled Substances Act. The plant Cannabis sativa has two primary species, hemp and marijuana. Both contain CBD oil, but there’s a much higher percentage in hemp, which also has very low (less than 0.3%) levels of THC compared to marijuana. Growers/farmers can now legally cultivate hemp, thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill. What is a cannabinoid? To understand how hemp oil products work in the body, you need to first understand the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a part of the mammalian central nervous system. You and everyone you know — even your furry friends — have endocannabinoid systems (ECS). The ECS is thought to play a crucial role in many bodily functions, including appetite, sleep, mood, and injury mitigation. How do cannabinoids work in the body? In general, the ECS can be thought of as your body’s regulatory committee. When things get out of balance, the ECS steps in to bring order to the chaos, also known as homeostasis. Our bodies produce chemicals called endocannabinoids. Our bodies have two networks of cannabinoid receptors: CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are found in our connective tissues, gonads, organs, and throughout the nervous system. CB2 receptors are mostly dispersed through the immune system and related organs. However, both versions can be found in a wide range of bodily tissues. The evidence for CBD (Cannabidiol) health benefits CBD has been touted for a wide variety of health issues, but the strongest scientific evidence is for its effectiveness in treating some of the cruelest childhood epilepsy syndromes, such as Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), which typically don’t respond to antiseizure medications. In numerous studies, CBD was able to reduce the number of seizures, and in some cases it was able to stop them altogether. Videos of the effects of CBD on these children and their seizures are readily available on the Internet for viewing, and they are quite striking. Recently the FDA approved the first ever cannabis-derived medicine for these conditions, Epidiolex, which contains CBD. CBD is commonly used to address anxiety, and for patients who suffer through the misery of insomnia, studies suggest that CBD may help with both falling asleep and staying asleep. CBD may offer an option for treating different types of chronic pain. A study from the European Journal of Pain showed, using an animal model, CBD applied on the skin can help lower pain and inflammation due to arthritis. Another study demonstrated the mechanism by which CBD inhibits inflammatory and neuropathic pain, two of the most difficult types of chronic pain to treat. More study in humans is needed in this area to substantiate the claims of CBD proponents about pain control.

I booked a standard Semi-Flex Honors Discount rate at the Hilton Paris Opera. Ordinarily the HH Semi-Flex in European properties (afaik based on a handful of cities) is free cancellation up to 5 nights before stay (2359hrs hotel time). This was confirmed in the pdf of the aforementioned reservation under "Cancellation Policy".
However, confusingly, in the Comments section, the hotel had also added "Semi-Flex Rate Plan Cancellation policy is House Policy +2 days."
Before I approach the hotel directly for what might very well be a "duh" question, would this mean that in this specific case free cancellation is actually 5+2=7 nights before stay?
Have any of you encountered such a stated caveat to the standard HH Flexible or Semi-Flexible rate's cancellation policy? Admittedly, there might be a basis for Hilton Paris Opera's stricter rule, given that the booking is a 2-3 weeks before the Paris Olympics.

Things like unemployment protections, healthcare, childcare support, etc. are some of the strongest in the world. I found an interesting geopolitical study on a comparatively unknown Pentagon agency's(Executive Services Directorate's) website where it discusses four scenarios for the future of Europe's Muslim population and reading through it, despite it being published in 2008, I found it has been quite prescient in many ways as it accurately predicted many trends regarding terrorism and the responses to it. It discusses the challenges and the possible impossibility of true integration in the sense Europeans are accustomed to, and the geopolitical realities of the above on Europe and US-European relations. If you have the time you should read through the full study and its conclusions, but here are the summaries of each and their likelihood of occurring, starting from least likely to most likely.
Synthesis: Euro-Islam and a New Europe (Least Likely).
In an extension of the EU project to transcend Europe' s internal historical divisions, European societies manage to create a workable new civilization and political culture rooted in cosmopolitan precepts rather than in national or historical legacies. To qualify as a European one need only embrace a new civic creed. The Muslim populations of Europe develop a distinctive variant of their religion, relegating Islam to a personal or private moral code while adopting European languages, modes of dress, career ambitions, lifestyle choices, etc. A core body of secular beliefs and structures comes to characterize the Muslim populations as much as it does pre-existing European populations. This outcome is promoted by inherent tendencies on the part both of migrant and host communities to integrate the Muslim immigrant populations of Europe into the pre-existing social milieu. Designed programs of the State also act to promote integration and assimilation.
Eurabia: A Muslim-dominated Europe (Second Least Likely)
With its population aging and declining, Europe has little choice but to permit increased immigration from North Africa, the Middle East, and elsewhere in the Muslim world. Emboldened by their youthfulness, growing numbers, and a vibrant religious-cultural identity, Europe's Muslim immigrants increasingly assert themselves in European politics. The present disparities in birth rate grow even sharper. Exhausted, insecure, disoriented, and intimidated, European host societies never regain the cohesiveness of identity and purpose to assert themselves against an energetic, rising social order. Ultimately, the Muslim populations ofEurope overwhelm the host societies, until Europe becomes a socio-religious extension of the Ncar East and North Africa, possibly with residual enclaves of the pre-Islamic European population left from place to place. Pressure from within and from without compels the European states to distance themselves from cooperation with the United States, particularly in the Middle East.
Fortress Europe (Second Most Likely)
Unsettled by its inability to integrate its Muslim populations and impatient with the Muslims' refusal to assimilate, Europe dispenses with its relatively recent experience with liberalism. Global economic downturn and acts of jihadist terror provoke Europeans to embrace a highly xenophobic style of politics. European politics comes to be dominated by anti-Muslim ideologues, who adopt a program of organized hostility to Muslims and to already-established Muslim populations in Europe. The practical manifestations of the new reaction in Europe vary between some combination of isolation and draconian police controls at the least extreme end of a spectrum; to mass expulsion at the most extreme. Factors leading to this outcome include growth in alarm at the socio-economic problems associated with the Muslim populations; a break down of the ideology of multiculturalism and political taboos; and incidents of terrorism as mobilizing shock events.
The Green Ghetto (Most Likely).
The present-day (c. 2007) status quo continues-but, through the passage of time, it crystallizes-i.e., becomes more rigid and less likely to undergo transition to other forms. Muslim populations are restricted- at first by choice, later perhaps by formal legal provisions to more or less dearly defined geographic precincts, chiefly in large European cities. Elites within these populations may achieve a nominal degree of integration, through language acquisition and economic engagement with the host society. The main body of each Muslim population however remains self-contained, and advances little beyond a low-level economic niche. State integration programs stall, achieving, at best, the occasional convert to European social norms-but integration remains an exceptional phenomenon, restricted to individual cases. Globalization in the form of satellite television and air transportation makes it easier for immigrant populations to retain ties to their societies of origin and maintain distinct identities. Meanwhile globalization in the form of increased market competition undermines the European welfare state. Maintaining a homogenous society is no longer easy or even desirable. In essence, European society reverts to a pre-nation-state pattern wherein economic classes are socially distinct and ethnic-cultural groups fill specific economic niches
Foreign Policy Conclusions Related to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict:
Synthesis: The study's authors did not delve into the effects this might have on foreign policy so this is the one I would like to hear most from the people on. Personally I think we would see a more pro-Arab, but not necessarily rabidly anti-Israel, response in Europe if secularism and humanitarianism/a reformed private Islam win out over political Islam and the Muslim population integrates in this optimistic scenario. You would likely see a harder push for a two-state solution and an end to the conflict with Europe putting leashes on both the Palistineans and Israelis becoming tired of it, condemning Palistinean terrorism while also condemning Israeli countermeasures.
Eurabia: This would be the absolute worst scenario for Israel and the absolute best scenario for the Palestinians as it would turn Europe into an extension of MENA. The study does not go into detail on this but Israel would be entirely surrounded by actively Islamist countries by air, land, and sea, and the US would be forced to decide whether backing Israel is worth it if it turns the entire continent of Europe and MENA against it. Israel's existence as a state may actually be threatened even with nuclear weapons or it may even be forced to turn into an effective autarky North-Korean tier state if embargos are put on it and it is cut off from all of its trading partners. It may be able to survive but only with heavy concessions to the Palestinians and the potential loss of Jerusalem and/or exploiting inter-Muslim tensions.
Fortress Europe: This did not touch on Israel-Palestine directly but it does present an interesting US-EU dynamic depending on how bad the situation goes ranging from anywhere between the US supporting the crackdown or expulsion of Muslims to being vehemently against it or somewhere in between, meaning Israel could see a huge rift and tension between its two allies or them coming closer together to crack down on Islam. The former would be problematic for Israel due to a lack of coordination or even hostility between the two. The latter could go two ways depending on whether the historical antisemitism of the conservative right reemerges or it does not. If it does, this could not be great for Israel for various reasons ranging from outright hostility to a cold peace or anywhere in between. If it does not, however, it could be extremely beneficial to Israel as both Europe and America would not be fans of Muslims and Israel would become a key staunch ally for both with strong support from both and Israeli maximalist positions would likely find favor.
The Green Ghetto: The study touches on the IP conflict here saying that Europe would either become too distracted and divided by internal issues to really influence the conflict or it becomes more pro-Arab in the sense it does not want to set off constant ethnic conflict within its own borders by backing Israel or at least moving towards a more neutral position. One could extrapolate from this that it could also become bipolar each election cycle depending on which parties are in power, the more anti-Islam conservative ones backing Israel not so much because they care about Jewish sovereignty but more because it angers the Muslims which pleases their political base. The more progressive parties will turn more pro-Arab in an attempt to placate the Muslim population and deepen economic ties with MENA. You could also see a huge Western/Eastern Europe divide on this. Israel's position here would wax and wane with the political tide and it would require Israeli politicians to be skilled to navigate this.
