Olivia moved out at 20, moved out and later got pregnant (dad is not in the picture). Her son Jack is 9 months old. He is a handful. I love him so much, but he can barely be set down or he cries and whines.
About a month ago my mom scheduled a cruise for her and my dad. She sent a link to the family group chat saying that anyone who wants to join these are the dates/etc. To my surprise, most of my siblings have decided to book on the same cruise. Rebecca was discussing with me and asked if I wanted to go with her. I agreed because I think we’d have fun.
When Olivia heard this, she was upset because she wants to go. I told her the cost, but she said if you add a third and fourth person to your room it only costs approximately $170 for each of them (babies still coat the same amount). That’s with me and Rebecca paying full price ($900 each).
I honestly wouldn’t care if she went and I know she would love it and have fun, but her son would only be 16 months old at the time. He would want to be held or down walking the entire time.
Carrying a kid or chasing him around does not sound like a fun vacation. We’re planning on going to the beach a few days, and I know Olivia isn’t going to want to hold him the entire time. Plus I don’t really want to share a room with a baby (he cries a lot).

My goal with the build for my new PC is to play the games I have on steam without hearing a very loud noise that the fan makes, on these recent times the sound started to annoy me when playing on my laptop. I want to be able to play games like Skyrim with mods (no graphic ones), DBXV2, .Hack//G.U. Last Recode, Digimon Masters Online, Mad Max, the metro games, Naruto games, Sunset Overdrive, and if possible The Witcher 3 and in the future Digimon World Next Order, Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal. I want to be able to play these and other games without hearing a turbine-like noise that the fan makes, I want one more quitter, and without feeling the heat that comes from the computer (laptop in my case right now).
If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for?

With this build I can manage to fulfil or almost do the goal I want of the fan not making too much noise?
The RAM and case on the list I put links for them from Amazon México because I could not find them on pcpartpicker, also the case I put on the list is just a filler for the format, I don’t want the RBG/lights on the case, I would prefer to use no case or get a simplecheaper one, I hope someone could recommend one like that. The RAM I have from amazon is only one module of 16gb just in case.
Most of the pieces are on little discounts right now on Amazon México, but starting tomorrow there is a week of sales so maybe the prices that I listed (that I converted from pesos to dollars) may be cheaper, but I could only buy few pieces per month because I have to use part of the money I get for different things.
The monitor I plan to get is a cheap one with HDMI, 30ghz/60ghz and the same size as the one my laptop has, but for a time I would just use the tv as a monitor while I save some money to buy it.
If possible, I would like to know if the MB has Bluetooth, because some of the things I use needs it, so I want to know this detail.
My plan is to keep the build for many years, because I don’t think I could afford something much more expensive.
I would love, if possible, to receive advice on which piece to buy first to start making this build. Also would like to know if I could somehow save some money on any of the pieces.

I am a 37M teacher. I teach History for highschoolers. I keep pads and tampons in my classroom for the girls to use if they need them. This is something I do and have done for all my classes through the years and I pay for them out of my own pocket. But recently, I have gotten an upsurge of female students, making my supplies run low and making me need to restock more often.
So, I have told my students that if they want to use the pads or tampons, they will have to pay a fee of $1 a month if they use the products. I thought it would be a good idea to teach them economics and a basic form of budgeting to them. Well, some parents have come at me via email that this was unfair for them.
Keep in mind, I live near a low-income neighborhood, who have students that mostly depend on me for the products. I explained to them that I have had an upsurge of female students and have told them that their price has gone up and explained that it would not be viable for me to keep doing this. They would keep emailing me, with one parent calling me a d*ck after school because they can't afford the hygiene products themselves.
I talked this over with my fiancee and she said that it wasn't a bad thing, noting that her products have gotten expensive as well. At the same time however, the principal says this might be a d*ck move as the students need these and I should just give it to them free of charge. Now I am reconsidering my decision and have yet to apply the fee. So, WIBTA If I Started Charging My Female Students For Hygiene Products?

I don't understand your "surge of female students" comment. Do you mean a surge in need of products? More female students than male?

Update: After reading many of your comments, I am going to talk to the principal about setting up a caring closet. If he refuses then I will ask for a pay raise to cover for it or just tell him to pay for it out of pocket. Second Update: I just finished my meeting with my principal. He did not like the pay raise idea. I told him it would look bad for him if I didn't keep supplying these somehow and he then turned to the caring closet. He said he would need some time to think about it. The nurse said that even if the principal himself doesn't help out, she has 3 other teachers ready to pitch in. Thank you guys for all your support on how to deal with this!

OOP: No, my school does not have enough to supply these resources. And a surge of female students means that my classes have become filled with more females than ever before, making my supplies run dry. And some of the staff are barely going though, as you know with tacher pay. I get paid 37K after taxes, so this is not something I can afford, especially since this surge in female students happened in their freshman year, so this would not be possible for the next 3 years of their education. I flipped out, because I'm exhausted and burnt out. He insists he asked because he "was just curious" and doesn't understand why I'm so angry. Am I overreacting? To me, the question does not seem innocent and makes me feel like he doesn't appreciate everything that I do. It also makes me feel like I don’t have the space or “allowance” to relax if, god forbid, I needed a break, even though I WAS cleaning.

As a conclusion, both Rainy and I have used different methods to come to the same conclusion: Clover health is still being shorted to bankruptcy ratio, but the boot is less tight at the neck, now at 1.16. That being said, Clover still has ways to go before they can state they are no longer BK pegged. Again, Clover has plenty of room to grow and re-invigorate itself (Clover Home Care, Clover Assistant, and Clover Medicare Advantage), has adequate cash on hand, is cash flow positive, and is $100 million away from profitability (CA SaaS anyone?). This is why Rainy and I choose to invest into Clover. This is why the shorts are afraid of DD - it blows up their nonsense and makes their actions seem foolish. I am sure the shorts will keep mentioning that Clover is riding a meme wave, and once Clover gets under $1 the FUDs doom train will start. It is predictable and comical. AMC definitely is heading towards BK by 2026 (almost guaranteed), unless someone does another Antara capital and exchanges the lien note as a rollover in exchange for AMC Preferred Equity units 2.0 (since retail likes holding bags). Despite this, Market has pegged AMC temporarily to a ratio of 3. AMC cannot reinvent itself, it is still losing money per screen, but someone still is trying to meme it to viability. GME is not heading to BK, but it is definitely very very richly valued at ratio of 12.40 on 05/14/24. I do not consider GME a good investment, as it still needs to re-brand itself and re-invigorate itself (say, what happened to the NFT marketplace?). GME is memed up in value, but we do not foresee immediate bankruptcy concerns. Please be mindful that I have an unhealthy relationship with exercise and used to have disordered eating habits. So, I want to lose weight. I don’t care about my clothing size, or the number on the scale. But I just know I want to lose weight. I did a bad thing and checked my weight gain and I gained 8 pounds in 8 months which freaked me out and sent me down a rabbit hole (shouldn’t have done this). I’m back home for the summer and want to work on losing weight or more so just getting healthier. So I guess my question is how? How do I lose weight without counting calories? How do I lose weight without hating every second of exercising? —mini rant. Skip if you want— More on about exercising, I never got that joy or happiness people get after working out. This also gets broken out between the various rights owners. Throw in distributor, admin, and other fees along the way and the artist sees even less of this. Sure, more users makes it easier to get more streams, but this pace doesn’t make sense.

It’s hard to even argue this is to streaming services’ benefit. Take Spotify as an example - while revenues continue to grow, their Net Income hovers around zero and Net Margin, Operating Margin and Return on Invested Capital don’t look much nicer.
Yes, this is probably impacted by investment into podcasts, audiobooks, infrastructure etc. But this seems to be at the expense of musicians and labels.
To add on:
One would think with the price increases for premium this should lead to a higher revenue per stream. Unlikely. Since they now offer Audiobooks, this takes even more of a cut from music revenues to pay for this additional licensing.
Spotify seems to be pushing it’s narrative to how it helps nurture the relationship with an Artist’s fans, promote discovery, and soon introduce some more fan-centric payment options for artists. While this is all a nice direction, it will continue to be at the expense of the artist. It’s all to distract from what is really going on. These things should be an additional income stream, not something to make up for the declining revenue from streaming.
Something needs to change. It doesn’t make sense for both the artist/ labels, and streaming platforms themselves long term. Time-based listening payouts/ fan-centric models could make sense but both have their downsides. One thing is for sure, it can’t last much longer.

I am looking to buy a pre-owned SUV with a 25,000 dollar budget. I am currently searching for cars under 50K miles, and a 2019 or newer year. The car would mainly be used for errands around town and commuting to work (50 miles round trip) approx. 1-2 days per week.
Within the $25K budget and <50k mileage, I would be able to get a RAV-4, but it would most likely be a 2019 RAV-4 LE based on my budget, which would be a slightly older car and the lowest RAV-4 trim level .
Within the same price range and mileage, I can get a Mazda CX-5 in the Touring or Grand Touring trim level, and a newer year, probably 2021.
The Mazda seems like a better deal because I would be getting a newer car with more features for around the same price. My main hesitation is that I have only owned Toyota cars in the past (I have previously owned a 1999 Camry and I currently drive a 2010 RAV4). One I buy a car, I am hoping to keep it for as long as possible, so I want a car that is going to be reliable and last a long time.
On the other hand, the Mazda offers more convenience features with the higher trim level, and if I am planning on keeping a car for a long time, I think I would want more of the modern convenience features (my current 2010 RAV4 is missing a lot of modern features like a backup camera).
I am also not 100% sold on getting a RAV4 or a CX-5 if there are other options out there that sound better for my situation. I'm not sure if I should look further into subcompact SUV's like the CHR or CX-30? My partner currently drives a Honda HRV and I think the HRV is spacious enough for the two of us and I find it comfortable to drive, so I am open to the idea of a smaller SUV if it sounds like it would be a better option for my situation.

I've been feeling a little bummed out lately. I always try and stay happy and see the best in things. But.. I've just been so alone. Most of my whole childhood and adult years have been spent feeling lonely. I grew up surrounded by cornfields which was peaceful but also has a lonely aspect to it. My family never really were close and never did anything as a family really. And part of it too is the fact that I never had any neighbors my age to interact with. But aside from that, my adult life has been very lonely. I'm just always by myself. I barely have any meaningful adult relationships or experiences, or even any friends.
I work a 3-11 job in building maintenance at my company world headquarters building which I love, but again it's very lonely. I work the off shift so the building is always empty. I don't get normal social interaction with people my age or a chance to build relationships. I only have 3 older men as co-workers and we are mostly in the basement away from any people on the floors from knowing our existence. I always walk the floors and see office people laughing and chatting with their coworkers and I just don't have that kind of experience. And just.. no one knows I exist really. Everyone probably assumes I have a lot of friends, but I'm struggling inside with being so alone and trying to meet people and get past the "hi how are you?" "I'm good thanks" stage. Most people don't seem to want to talk beyond that. And most women are already in relationships and thus it would seem weird to approach them in an office setting trying to get to know them deeper. But man those "hi how are yous" are the only real interactions I get during my day.. so thus I decided to come here lol. Rant over, sorry! I promise I'm not a downer. 😅
Now for some things about me!
As you can tell, I am very mature for my age and am polite and have good grammar which unfortunately not everyone my age does anymore lol. I am not active at all on social media/internet culture really and don't know much about all the slang the younger people these days use. I feel like I'm 50. 🤣
I am left handed which is pretty cool. I'm not much of a party person or a drinker, I much prefer a quiet night at home and maybe a beer or two on a weekend but that's about it. I am simple and stay out of drama and trouble and don't get much into politics or other things that cause drama with people. I much prefer a relaxing campfire and a night at home and to just let the world keep on turning haha. I consider myself pretty intelligent and mature, especially for my age which is why I'm open to older ladies.
Physically I'm 180 pounds, have brown hair, green eyes, and a typical build. There's a few pictures on my profile.

• Photography
I have a Nikon D200 and D5500 that I love to shoot with. I love nature scenes, abstract, black and white/goth kinda photography, sunsets, etc. it's so fun to just let your mind explore. It's not about what camera you have, but those who are behind the camera! I'm gonna try and photograph the northern lights tonight!
• Cooking and baking
I loveeee to cook and bake! I enjoy making various meals but also love to just have a frozen pizza once in awhile or something like that. I recently made homemade chili which turned out great. I love to bake, especially in the fall! I love pies, cakes, pastries, cookies, etc. I restored a vintage KitchenAid mixer that needed tbe gearbox rebuilt. Eventually I would love to practice home canning my own food.
• Music
Oh my gosh, I like so much!! Alternative rock, punk, post punk, electronic, synth pop, psychedelic rock, hard rock, etc. I am very non judgemental and open when it comes to music. My three current favorite bands are Type O Negative, Joy Division, and the Cure.
• Nature walks and camping
I really enjoy camping, making fires, and relaxing by a campfire. I love to take walks outside and just enjoy the beauty and simplicity of nature. It's wonderful, especially in a world so focused on everything digital.
• Repairing things
I'm a maintenance guy and one of my hobbies is electronics repair so I am good with my hands and just all around good at troubleshooting and fixing all sorts of things around the house. Last week I helped my elderly neighbor get his tractor started, it needed a new component in the starting circuit. So I'm pretty handy which... Comes in handy! 😂
• Autumn 🍁
This isn't a hobby per say, but man do I love the fall!!! It's my absolute favorite time of the year. Oh my gosh. The beautiful colors, crisp cool air, misty and foggy days, rain, lack of bugs, being cuddled up with a candle or by the fire drinking a tea, etc. I love it! There's only two seasons for me. Fall, and waiting for fall! Haha.
• Scented Candles and incense
Going along with my love for fall, I absolutely love candles! I have like 30 something lol. 😂 Currently my favorite are WoodWick, which are owned by Yankee candle. They have such a soothing crackle and the scents are great! I also love to burn incense from time to time as well. I have cottagecore hippie vibes.
• Old houses and architecture
I love old houses! Especially 1900s and Victorian era homes. Old homes have so much character to them and are just so beautiful from a time when people took pride in their craft. I strongly dislike the modern cookie cutter cheap construction of homes today. I would love to live in an old home one day. I also love their architecture and uniqueness, as well as architecture of old cathedrals and other buildings.
• Relaxing
Basic I know, but sometimes on the weekend I just love to get cozy in bed and relax and put on a YouTube video or an album! 😊

Nice to meet you, I'm Dylan! To put it simple, I am a single 22 year old man who has been pretty lonely in life and lacking in female connection and interaction. I’m currently in a bit of a dilemma and could use some advice. I’m debating between getting a hardtail or a full-suspension mountain bike (MTB), and I’m hoping to gather some insights from the community. I mainly ride on light trails or roads in the city for almost daily recreational rides. Occasionally, I like to tackle difficult trails, (Buffalo Pound) although I don’t get out to these trails very often, maybe like 1-3 times per month, but would like to get out to them more often. I currently have a 2016 Kona Mahuna (XC bike) and would like to upgrade to something nicer, like with at least a dropper post, and just generally upgraded parts. Im not incredibly experienced, like im not sending it off of 10 foot drops, i would say i may be just above a beginner. You can kind of tell my skill level from my bike (Kona Mahuna). I got into mountain biking a few years ago. but I don’t know if I should go for a hardtail or full suspension. I’ve noticed that with a hardtail, I can get better components since I don’t have to pay for a rear shock. This is appealing from a budget standpoint, as I could invest in upgrades like a better drivetrain, brakes, or wheelset. On one hand, a hardtail with upgraded components seems practical and versatile for my riding needs, including city commuting and occasional difficult trails. On the other hand, the plush feel of the rear suspension on a full-suspension bike enhances the riding experience, particularly on rough trails, despite the higher upfront cost and potential maintenance. I have a budget of about 3k (CANADIAN) give or take a few hundred. I have looked and found the Rocky Mountain Growler 50, and the Rocky Mountain Instinct A30, those are kind of my main bikes I have found. So anyone please help me decide between hardtail and full suspension, also some bike recommendations of either full suspension or hardtail would be greatly appreciated, as I haven’t looked around a lot.

 | Preface for the purposes of intellectual honesty: I am not an economist. I did not make this to be some bulletproof scientific study and I only have access to the data that I can find on Google. I did not spend years creating this, I spent about an hour doing it. As a result I'm sure there are fair criticisms that could be levelled at the graph I'll present. But I was just hoping this would give people some vague idea of how much average workers in the U.S. are being screwed. submitted by OneOnOne6211 to antiwork [link] [comments] Anyway, that out of the way... I spent the last hour or so researching and making a little graph to get across inequality in America. This graph contains various measures: Worker productivity, CEO pay, median housing price, average big mac price (as a shorthand for the price of food), median yearly income and the minimum wage in the United States from 1970 to 2020. This graph measures growth so all of these are compared each time to what they were in 1970. So for each of them 1970 is 1 and the other numbers are how much that value has risen compared to 1970. For example, median housing prices in the U.S. were 63.700 dollars in Q1 of 1980 and 23.900 in Q1 of 1970. This means 63.700/23.900 which is about 2.67, meaning the median house price in 1980 was about 2.67 times as much as in 1970. This is the information conveyed on the graph. And I do the same kind of calculation for everything included. This is so they can all be displayed easily on the same graph. In effect, I am showing you the growth of each of them compared to each other. None of these numbers (except CEO pay, I'll get back to that) are adjusted for inflation. This is intentional because inflation doesn't matter here since we're compared non-inflation adjusted numbers to other non-inflation adjusted numbers. And the important thing about this graph isn't the absolute numbers, it is the distance between those numbers. If inflation was the only factor, for example, then all of the lines on the graph would perfectly overlap. In other words, if the minimum wage grew at the exact same rate that CEO pay did (due to inflation), then these two lines would overlap each other. On the other hand, if the minimum wage grew faster than CEO pay did, then the line for the minimum wage would move up more quickly than the CEO pay line and the gap would get larger. And if CEO pay grew faster than the minimum wage did, then it would climb higher faster and the gap between the two would grow in its favour. In other words, the important thing about this graph is always the gap between two lines. To simplify it: The bigger the gap between two lines grows, the more the lower line is getting screwed compared to the higher line. That's not taking into account any "screwage" that was already going on in 1970. Just how much harder you're being screwed now than people in the 1970s were. The gap is temporarily reduced in 2010 (I assume due to the stock market crash) but is well on its way to reaching a new high by 2020. It's also worth mentioning here that because CEO pay is the one thing that IS inflation-adjusted, so far as I'm aware, because I couldn't find a non-inflation adjusted version, this is actually an underestimate of the degree of "screwage" going on. We can also look at the median housing price which, compared to both median yearly income and minimum wage, has completely skyrocketed. Hence the growing gap between them. The cost of a big mac doesn't fare as badly as housing, yet it is still more expensive compared to the median yearly wage than it was in 1970. This means your yearly income will buy few big macs today than it did back in 1970. This is extra true if you make the federal minimum wage, because the gap there is even larger. All of this, including workers being able to buy fewer houses and big macs with your wage, is happening as worker productivity continues to rise. And, as you can see, the gap between worker productivity and your yearly income continues to grow. Meaning that while you are producing more value per hour, you are actually taking home a smaller percentage of that value than before. And, in fact, it's worse than that because (as shown by housing prices and the big mac's price) you are even taking home less value in absolute terms as well, at least when it comes to housing and food. So you are producing, inflation adjusted, more than 2.5 times as much value as in 1970 these days, but you find it harder to afford food and housing than back then. By contrast, CEO pay compared to the productivity of U.S. workers has climbed a lot more. Outpaced it by quite a bit, in fact, as the gap there (though reaching a zenith in 2000 before the crash) is much, much bigger in 2020 than in the 70s, 80s and 90s. So the CEOs are actually taking home more of the value you generate. As you can see the gap between their pay and housing prices and big mac prices has also climbed quite a lot. Meaning that in absolute terms too they can buy a lot more of those these days than they could in the 1970s. And, again, this is an underestimate. But just in case you weren't convinced you're getting screwed, let's put a cherry on top of this inequality cake. Because I've created a second graph. By 2020 the federal minimum wage is about 4.5 times what it was in 1970, the median yearly income is about 6.1 times what it was in 1970 and the wealthiest person's net worth is about 75 times what it was in 1970. Yes, 75 times compared to 4.5 and 6.1. This is inexcusable. This is not a working system. This is a dark comedy. It must be fixed. |

2024.05.15 04:21 Durian_Mace Rant: An argument against the F2P + microtransactions model
Hi, I am a big fan of Gigantic. I have been playing this game for the last couple of weeks and was thoroughly enjoying every second of it. Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz around this game, specifically from people complaining about it not being free-to-play. Instead, this game has a price tag of $20 with no microtransactions.
Many people believe that this $20 price tag is hurting the game and that turning it into a F2P game with microtransactions might help the player base grow. And while I’m sure that these people have some valid points to support their case, I believe I can come up with a good enough counter-argument as to why the F2P model might not be the best way to go moving forward. After some careful consideration and a bit of research, here are my two cents on the issue:
Argument #1: Gigantic have tried going F2P before and it didn’t help them one bit.
Back when Gigantic was first released in 2017—where it was first developed by Motiga—the game was initially released as a F2P game. Despite that, at the time, it did not help the game whatsoever in terms of acquiring a sizable player base, which led to it shutting down a year later. Now, you might argue that Gigantic’s initial shutdown can also be attributed to other factors such as having to switch publishers mid-development, causing it to have a rocky launch. Another possible contributing factor is also the timing of its release, where games like Overwatch have already gained a massive following—taking most of the attention away from Gigantic.
With that said, some of you might still think that the F2P model might work for Gigantic this time around. However, I don’t believe that is very likely. Currently, Overwatch 2 still dominates the market of hero-shooter games and League of Legends is still going strong as one of the powerhouses of the MOBA genre. The current situation is more or less the same as it was back when Gigantic was first released. If nothing has changed before, do you honestly think the developers and publishers of this game would want to risk making the same mistake again? If it already didn’t work the first time, what makes you so sure that it’s going to work the second time?
Of course, there's still a chance that the F2P model might work, though it is not a guarantee. I believe many people out there are highly overestimating the effect of the F2P model on a game like Gigantic, thinking that it might miraculously turn this whole situation around when there is clearly already evidence that suggests otherwise.
Argument #2: There are examples of similar games out there that are massively popular despite not being F2P when it was first released.
I’m going to use Overwatch again, as it is the game that most people would compare Gigantic to. Remember back when Overwatch first released, it was priced at $40, and that was only the bare-bones version on PC. If you get the “Game of the Year” Edition, the price goes up to $60. If you get the “Collector’s Edition”, it goes up to a whopping $130. That didn’t stop it from being one of the most popular games at the time, now does it? Now, I’m sure that there are some of you out there who have enjoyed playing LoL for years without spending a single penny. If you are one of those people, good on you; you have more self-control than most of us. I’m sure that, from your perspective, paying $20 for Gigantic just doesn’t seem worth it to you. That is a fair and valid point and I completely understand. However, if the statistics are to be believed, most of you LoL players out there are not that type of person.
Most of you do not have that kind of self-control. Eventually, FOMO is going to hit you hard and you'll cave into that pressure. Eventually, you will be inclined to spend more money than you should and even lose track of how much you are spending. Eventually, the act of paying money itself becomes a habit and then, all of a sudden, you’re playing the equivalent of a down payment of a car on this game—a game which, may I remind you, does not require you to pay any amount of money to play in the first place! Is “free-to-play” actually free to play if you’re just going to end up paying money anyway?
Try as you might, you’re going to give into that temptation eventually. That’s how F2P games are designed. They manipulate you psychologically. Games like LoL did not get as big as they did on a gaming community that is good at self-control with their money. Sure, maybe the F2P model is a financially sustainable model if done right. That doesn’t change the fact that F2P games are shady at its core even at the best of times and are downright predatory and exploitative at the worst of times.
Sure, maybe you think that all that money you’ve spent on the game is worth it. Maybe you bought all those skins with absolutely no regrets whatsoever. If the game is good, then it totally deserves whatever amount of money you’re paying it, right? To which I ask you this: if you’re already willing to spend that much money on a F2P game like LoL, why would you be so apprehensive to spend $20 on a full game like Gigantic? Is $20 really that big of a deal when compared to all the other gaming-related purchases that you’ve made throughout your lifetime? Plus, that $20 is a one-and-done deal, after which you don’t have to pay any more money. You literally cannot toss in the down payment of a car into this game even if you wanted to!
The team behind Gigantic are probably aware of the negative reputation of microtransactions. While I don’t know for certain, I suspect that they have heated debates amongst themselves before settling with the final asking price of $20 as the best compromise in order to rid the game of any microtransactions. Even though $20 might seem a lot at first when compared to its F2P competitors, on average, playing Gigantic is going to cost you less money than playing LoL in the long run. That’s because Gigantic is designed like a real game, not a glorified Skinner box.
For a long time, people have been complaining about microtransactions in video games—so much so that not even games like LoL are completely free of criticism. Gigantic dares to take a step towards the right direction by introducing a reasonably priced game that doesn’t have any microtransactions even when it probably should. Assuming that the team did so under genuinely benevolent reasons, Gigantic should be praised for taking such a bold step, not condemned, and I just really want to get that out there to all of you guys.

Many people believe that this $20 price tag is hurting the game and that turning it into a F2P game with microtransactions might help the player base grow. And while I’m sure that these people have some valid points to support their case, I believe I can come up with a good enough counter-argument as to why the F2P model might not be the best way to go moving forward. After some careful consideration and a bit of research, here are my two cents on the issue:
Argument #1: Gigantic have tried going F2P before and it didn’t help them one bit.
Back when Gigantic was first released in 2017—where it was first developed by Motiga—the game was initially released as a F2P game. Despite that, at the time, it did not help the game whatsoever in terms of acquiring a sizable player base, which led to it shutting down a year later. Now, you might argue that Gigantic’s initial shutdown can also be attributed to other factors such as having to switch publishers mid-development, causing it to have a rocky launch. Another possible contributing factor is also the timing of its release, where games like Overwatch have already gained a massive following—taking most of the attention away from Gigantic.
With that said, some of you might still think that the F2P model might work for Gigantic this time around. However, I don’t believe that is very likely. Currently, Overwatch 2 still dominates the market of hero-shooter games and League of Legends is still going strong as one of the powerhouses of the MOBA genre. The current situation is more or less the same as it was back when Gigantic was first released. If nothing has changed before, do you honestly think the developers and publishers of this game would want to risk making the same mistake again? If it already didn’t work the first time, what makes you so sure that it’s going to work the second time?
Of course, there's still a chance that the F2P model might work, though it is not a guarantee. I believe many people out there are highly overestimating the effect of the F2P model on a game like Gigantic, thinking that it might miraculously turn this whole situation around when there is clearly already evidence that suggests otherwise.
