I remember reading Orwell’s essay Shooting an Elephant in middle school and it is ringing loud in my ears reading Player of Games, particularly how entitled the main character is and how it is implied but not directly stated that he looks down on the Azadians. ive heard a lot of the culture series has this civilized vs barbarian theme running through it. I just think Banks is doing a great job of making it a subtle unstated feeling in the book, which is how Those imperialist attitudes manifest in reality too. fascinating stuff.

I was considering this HP but have heard bad things about all in one desktops in general and then even more bad things about hp products. I did have a HP laptop for two years before getting my mac. (so maybe i should know not to use their products?) Just looking for an alternative to this that’s still affordable. Also I know one thing is an all in one and the other is a monitor because I considered buying a mac mini and just getting a nice size screen. So I saw the devs asked for ideas for decoration items.
Which must be pretty hard to come up with new stuff since Ft1 had so many already.

Like a fish feeder (even just cosmetic) with some effect maybe in the water (if there is fish)
Also Yurts and Container homes would be great as many people do now in Portugal and other places.
Some vegetation as decorative items? Like scrubs and even weed-type like fields, water plants, giant 4x4 old ancient trees (like olive, https://www.surinenglish.com/lifestyle/food-drink/malagas-extra-virgin-20220218092148-ntvo.html ) and GIGANTIC palm trees - maybe even 2x2 and 3x3 trees , just like more huge old wood logs and rotten tree stumps just for decoration
Chicken tractors (used to move chicken around on grass fields (great for decoration))
Some stuff from organic/regenerative farming like different soil types with mulch on it (woodchips, straw, could even be a gameplay element where players could put a new item they pick up from a compost bin over crops?).
Signs maybe even with some text elements like "Please plant " here where * is the crop icon you choose (maybe there is other text elements that would be useful like "Welcome to *your farm name), and huge 6-9 tile gates that have players farm name on them?
Worm bin (used in farming), compost, electricity poles (just for decoration), wind-farm/solar decoration, items for like a "tree-school" (like little pots with different crops/flowers/tiny plants and stacks of pots both vertically and horizontally).
Bonsai trees.
Also compost again, like giant stacks of mud/compost (maybe with flies over it and a buzzing sound)/woodchip piles just for decoration purposes

Generally i think it would be great if they often looked more unique like the Prickly Pear Cactus over just a round "bush").

Actually for tree ideas you might want to look at this small youtuber who goes around the world identifying rare fruit trees https://www.youtube.com/@allthefruit there is some places in the world where people just are super creative and have such an amazing variety.
Some worker tools, rubber boots on the ground (used a lot in some countries as costa rica), small 1 tile poly tunnels that connect (good for decoration next to fields), watering cans, irrigation lines, rainwater collectors (like barrels with water in them, IBC containers), garden hoes (maybe as fence type?)
(Also just having an idea for a feature maybe some day, where you could create a guided tractor tour if people click it, the tractor will keep following a certain path around the farm (kinda like the train of course, but maybe at the same time watering/plowing fields just by people "activating it" so following a line maybe set up with a tile seperatofence type of item?)
Rollercoaster instead of train going all over your farm (haha kinda meant as a joke but would surely be fun), same as some dinosaurs, elephants and other more "exotic" animals.
Boxes/crates of all the different/some mixed crops/fruit. Wheelbarrows and boxes with produce/plants/fruit/crops in them so you can make your farm look more like a production site.
Starlink satellite, different camper vans, more bonfires
Maybe (some day?) an "ancient tractor", or even like a cow/horse/donkey carriage acting like a tractor. This could be fun!
Different SMALL one tile water fountains (used often in backyard gardening), different Water Pumps.
More varieties of bird feeders. Maybe a tree that has a squirrel on it.
Some more varied wooden benches, chairs, tables as often used in garden areas around the world. Maybe with some garden pots on them.
Maybe some pools and more deluxe items like parasols, sunbeds/deckchairs, sunchairs, so people can decorate a special garden at the player house as in a lounge area (as the farmhands do all the "work" lol)
Also maybe for more posh gardens some white gravel type of soil with some green scrubs in them.
Shovels and other tools sticking in the ground/soil (or on piles as is already in the game with the beautiful hay fork).
Hope this helps this is what I could come up with an hour or so and would love to see tho I realize not all is possible to do or really necessary! And I am happy even with the EA just like its now lol.

I play inter-house basketball at school. Our team has a girl named 'Dina'. Since day one, she's been detrimental to the team and its players. The team (like most) has 12 players; however, not all always play, and not for equal amounts of time. Dina isn't the captain or vice-captain; however, my friends, a pair of identical twins, are. My best friend, 'Allie', is the team captain. Our first match, she decided she didn't want Dina to play; or, at least, not in the first 5, and drafted me in. However, upon arriving, Dina insisted not only that she play, but that she play instead of me. She chose to throw me out of the first five due to the fact that Allie and her sister, 'Amara', are the captains and the other two original players, 'Eleanor' and 'Sally', are her friends. She went on to play; however, Allie subbed me in as much as she could. Later in the match, Dina started making the captain's decisions. She put players in and subbed them out herself; and it's because of this that we had five weak players on the court at the same time, resulting in a tricky victory. The next game, Allie and Amara again decided that they didn't want Dina to play, but, of course, she shoved her way in. She played terribly and caused us to lose a lot of points. Ten minutes into the game, Dina developed a stomach ache. We called timeout and she was subbed out, creating a lot of fuss. Dina doesn't dislike me at all, but we aren't close friends either, and she kicked up a fuss when I was put in instead. I'm autistic and don't mean to sound self-centered with this statement - however, I'm a far better player and the team performance improved drastically after I was put in. Once she had recovered, Dina kicked up a commotion, demanding to be put back in. Allie, Amara, Sally and even Ellie argued with her profusely, telling her that I was playing well. Eventually, we won; however, our third and final match is against a super difficult team. We'll lose if Dina plays, but there's no way to tell her that:
a) she doesn't play well
and
b) we don't want her in the first five
Could anyone give me, Allie and Amara any advice for what to do?

Ok so I got my results and by BO5 I got 93%. Our school released a ciruclar which said I got 95%(top 5). I ranked 3rd. But then today they said that cbse sent them some sort of ledger of % of students and according to that I got less marks and less ranking. And guess who took my place in the new rankings... the daughter of a senior teacher. I have a feeling they played some kind of dirty game here So what do you think?

Came to this page because Rakion was on my mind lately. With AAA games slightly declining and Indie Games on the rise with so much untapped potential, now would be a perfect time for a Rakion sequel, I believe. If there was a way to contact the original team behind this game to do a remaster or upgrade and a KickStarter was set up for a project I would absolutely donate to it. This game (and Maplestory) was essentially my whole middle-school career, and there has been no game that's hit the same for me since, it was THAT unique of a game. Competition is a good thing. Putting these in chronological order takes me back to the era where there were options (I bought my first game in the '90s, and played a lot of 2k2).

hi! i recently got back to Neopets, started playing over a week ago. I've been following the advice here re: Battledome and now i'm able to win against the Kreludan Defender with my level 13 pet.
i've been getting red codestone drops fairly regularly, but I know I won't be able to use them till level 250. would it be smart of me to sell them for the meantime? from what I've read, it'd take me a couple of months to get to the Secret Ninja Training School and i'm thinking the NP from selling the red codestones for about a month or so would help me more now VS saving them till whenever I hit 250.
advice would be SUPER appreciated cos i'm also still learning how the game economy works + getting into the groove of things :)

Hi all,
This is my very first post and English is not my native language. Please forgive me for any errors.
I admit I don't really know what to expect from this post, creating mainly to let off steam.
It might be quite long haha. So me (24M) and my ex (24F) were together since we were 17.
So we have met in high school. We quickly decided to stay together despite studying in different cities. To be honest we never had a real argument during our 6 and a half years of relationship. Small arguments about boundaries that should not be crossed and which were resolved in a healthy way.
To give some context. My ex has an alcoholic mother and a father who more or less abandoned her at a young age but eventually came back. She also comes from a much more difficult economic background than me.
I am lucky to have a very united and supportive family. We also have no money problems and are there to help us in difficult times.
After a few months of dating, I very quickly integrated my ex into my family. We hosted all the parties at our house, my parents took her on trips with us, and I always did my best to help her in her life (picking her up from work, bringing her meals when she finished work, I took the train every weekend to see her in her city).
She always said that I was an excellent, even perfect boyfriend. I have always proven my loyalty and my love for her. She still seemed extremely happy with it and was a bit boastful about it haha. We ended up moving in together in 2022.
This is where we had our first real problems. Since she had no financial support from her parents, she had to work at the same time as her studies. She was naturally very tired physically and mentally. Personally, at that time I really didn't like my studies and I was very stressed because 1 year later I had to find my first job.
Our first arguments therefore revolved around personal investment in cleaning and maintaining the house. I was never really satisfied with her investment. We had a few arguments but we got there in the end. I naturally relaxed with my reduction in stress and I realized that I had a tendency to want to control my environment during my stressful periods. So I made an effort and things got better.
From summer 2023, we changed apartments and I had my first internship and then my first job. With a significant salary, I told her to stop working and focus on her studies (she repeated her year once because her work took up too much of her time).
So, I took care of everything and I gave her €400 per month so that she could continue to live a normal life. In September 2023, she started to go to her business school and I start to see some personality change.
For more context, I am a very introverted person. I have never smoked, never tried drugs, never gone to nightclubs and I drink very little. I spend my free time playing PC, role-playing games or playing sports. My ex was also very introverted, she loves reading at home while drinking coffee. She went out once every full moon to have a drink with her best friend.
But, once she arrived at her new school, she started going out more often, going to nightclubs (in 6 years she must have gone 3 times). She also started smoking an electronic cigarette.
The fateful moment was at the end of January 2024. As part of her studies, she had to go to Barcelona for 3 months. I was very happy for her knowing that we had already established a long-distance relationship (however, it was me who left and she stayed in our hometown).

This is my very first post and English is not my native language. Please forgive me for any errors.
I admit I don't really know what to expect from this post, creating mainly to let off steam.
It might be quite long haha. So me (24M) and my ex (24F) were together since we were 17.
So we have met in high school. We quickly decided to stay together despite studying in different cities. To be honest we never had a real argument during our 6 and a half years of relationship. Small arguments about boundaries that should not be crossed and which were resolved in a healthy way.
To give some context. My ex has an alcoholic mother and a father who more or less abandoned her at a young age but eventually came back. She also comes from a much more difficult economic background than me.
I am lucky to have a very united and supportive family. We also have no money problems and are there to help us in difficult times.
After a few months of dating, I very quickly integrated my ex into my family. We hosted all the parties at our house, my parents took her on trips with us, and I always did my best to help her in her life (picking her up from work, bringing her meals when she finished work, I took the train every weekend to see her in her city).
She always said that I was an excellent, even perfect boyfriend. I have always proven my loyalty and my love for her. She still seemed extremely happy with it and was a bit boastful about it haha. We ended up moving in together in 2022.
This is where we had our first real problems. Since she had no financial support from her parents, she had to work at the same time as her studies. She was naturally very tired physically and mentally. Personally, at that time I really didn't like my studies and I was very stressed because 1 year later I had to find my first job.
Our first arguments therefore revolved around personal investment in cleaning and maintaining the house. I was never really satisfied with her investment. We had a few arguments but we got there in the end. I naturally relaxed with my reduction in stress and I realized that I had a tendency to want to control my environment during my stressful periods. So I made an effort and things got better.
From summer 2023, we changed apartments and I had my first internship and then my first job. With a significant salary, I told her to stop working and focus on her studies (she repeated her year once because her work took up too much of her time).
So, I took care of everything and I gave her €400 per month so that she could continue to live a normal life. In September 2023, she started to go to her business school and I start to see some personality change.
For more context, I am a very introverted person. I have never smoked, never tried drugs, never gone to nightclubs and I drink very little. I spend my free time playing PC, role-playing games or playing sports. My ex was also very introverted, she loves reading at home while drinking coffee. She went out once every full moon to have a drink with her best friend.
But, once she arrived at her new school, she started going out more often, going to nightclubs (in 6 years she must have gone 3 times). She also started smoking an electronic cigarette.
The fateful moment was at the end of January 2024. As part of her studies, she had to go to Barcelona for 3 months. I was very happy for her knowing that we had already established a long-distance relationship (however, it was me who left and she stayed in our hometown).

My Dad always feared that the government would come and “force us” to go to a proper school. We had to “pretend” that we went to school. That meant not being outside within the school hours. Only going to the town on the weekends. No clubs, no friends, no contact. No social media, no online games (though that was because of my parents being paranoid about the dangers of the internet) With me and my siblings getting older, that loosened up a bit. But while I now theoretically COULD have gone to do some social activities, I didn’t know where to begin. And I didn’t want to. I was scared. Still am sometimes, xD.
Now I am going to community college. And I am doing a lot better. I will soon begin my first job and become less and less dependent on my dad.
The thing is, I resent my dad but I sometimes wonder if I am overreacting in hating him. After all, on all the sites about abuse the situations that are described are far more extreme. He never physically hurt us. He never locked us into rooms and always bought us everything we wanted. Be it books or games or whatever. We always were well fed, clean and pretty normal, apart the homeschooling and the isolation. And I could have gone outside, at some point after turning 16. I just chose not to. He never said we couldn’t. We were even asked if we wanted to be homeschooled or not (though I was 11 at the time so I feel like that question shouldn’t have been decided by me)

Premier League- 4th Oct 2020- Leicester 0- West Ham 3 First signs that Moyes’ counter attacking style could be effective and exciting as we shock a high-riding Leicester team. Antonio, Fornals and Bowen all on the scoresheet.
Premier League- 18th Oct 2020- Tottenham 3- West Ham 3 Optimism from the previous games start to fade as we flatline early to a three-goal deficit, are we back to the same old West Ham? An amazing turnaround capped by Lanzini’s wondrous injury-time equaliser shows Moyes’ has instilled a grit and perseverance we have been missing.
Premier League- 5th April 2021- Wolves 2- West Ham 3 Barnstorming first-half as we brutalise Wolves on the break and race into a three-goal lead. Moyes’ favoured style now supercharged with Lingard on board. The heady heights of 4th in the table, daring to dream of the Champions League.
Premier League- 23rd May 2021- West Ham 3- Southampton 0 Late-season defeats to Newcastle, Chelsea and Everton have killed the Champions League dream but joy abounds on the final day of the season as we clinch 6th and a Europa League spot. Pablito scores two quick first half-goals and a late Declan Rice solo effort seals the deal. Fans allowed back in the stadium after a season of playing in eerie emptiness; strangely we thrived!
Premier League- 7th November 2021- West Ham 3- Liverpool 2 This was Moyes’ peak in the league as our physical strength on set-pieces and lightning- fast breaks overcame a disgruntled Liverpool. We reach the heady heights of 3rd yet strangely it seemed to go downhill league-wise from here.
Europa League- 17th March 2022- West Ham 2 Sevilla 0 (AET) Moyes greatest result? Still feels a surreal night, a weird fever dream as we comfortably upset a Sevilla side who had made this competition their own. The atmosphere at the bowl is fervent, Soucek heads us level in the tie and Yarmolenko adds the scriptwriter's ending, scoring the winner and leaves the pitch with the Ukrainian flag. Russia had declared war on his country three weeks earlier. Lopetegui leaves defeated but with unfinished business in Stratford.
Europa League- 15th April 2022- Lyon 0 West Ham 3 Going into second-leg as underdogs , the Hammers produce a classic away performance to shock an overconfident French side and march into the semi-finals. Ballon D’Awson, Rice and Bowen with the goals and the high point in Moyes’ relationship with the fans as he is serenaded off the pitch.
Premier League- 16th April 2023- West Ham 2- Arsenal 2 Flickering signs of mongrel in the dying dog as the Hammers take offence to a showboating Gunners side two-up and high on hubris. Rice leads the press and Arsenal crumble under the pressure leaving their title challenge in tatters. The home fans ask why it took 30 games into the campaign to show this passion. Moyes' side have been too passive and meek all season.

 | Hello everyone, so according to the teaser I posted a bit earlier, I've gotten a bit bored with the current playstyle and meta of the game, so because I am uncreative I decided to make an excel spreadsheet to randomize a custom loadout for me anytime I want, and I want to share that with all of you out there! submitted by PalThePro to Helldivers [link] [comments] It's really simple to use, you simply select all the Stratagems, Primary Weapons, Secondary Weapons, Grenades, Armor and Boosters you Have/Want to use, and click the randomize loadout! https://preview.redd.it/jwyvy5xmxd0d1.png?width=1866&format=png&auto=webp&s=878aa3e68d69ea5717ad26a6dee36af94731ff93 I've even put in a few quick selects to toggle all items in say, the Helldivers Mobilize Warbond, so if you have everything in there or a lot of it it might be a lot faster to just check that one and let it do most of the work! Currently there are only 3 miscellaneous settings, those being to only have a Max of 1 Support Weapon per loadout, to only have a Max of 1 Backpack per loadout, and to Count a Support Weapon Backpack as a Backpack or not. Loadout Randomizer, and PasteBin Code of all the macros to ensure everyone is aware what they are running! (P.S. let me know if I can do anything better than this, any and all feedback is welcome) To run it, you must download the file, Unblock it and allow the macros in the excel, then you can randomize to your hearts content! Also, there might be a few things that are not fully working, but if you report it to me I can get on with trying to fix it.
