[FOR HIRE] NV or Remote - Sysadmin/Manager/Analyst/Business Partner

2023.04.05 21:56 AlkiIT [FOR HIRE] NV or Remote - Sysadmin/Manager/Analyst/Business Partner

Hey all, Unfortunately, I've been caught in some layoffs and it's time to start looking for a new position.
I've been in IT full time since 2010. I've done some consulting, but my primary has been in the mining industry. My current position is as an Information Technology Business Partner for a small operation that is closing down due to market conditions.
I'm experienced in the full range of responsibilities, including budgeting, staffing, resourcing, strategic planning, and project management. I've built IT teams from the ground, as well as worked extensively with contractors and vendors for systems deployments, ranging from greenfield network deployments to ERP rollouts.
On the more technical side, I have experience in:
I have an Associates in Computer Science, and certifications in Project Management, Six Sigma, CompTIA (expired), Emerson DeltaV, and am formerly certified as a EMT Basic. I've been 100% employed FTE since 2012, and can provide references from prior and current employers.
I have a few months yet before I'm freed up, but I'm now on the hunt for something new and interesting to do. I'm focusing on full time positions, rather than contract, and while I don't mind travel in the slightest (my current position is ~50%), I'm hoping not to relocate at this time, so remote or Las Vegas area is ideal. A leadership role, especially one that involves building up an IT team, would be preferable, but I'm open to interesting technical roles as well. I'm happy to stay in mining or to try another industry on for size. Feel free to reach out for any questions and I'll be happy to respond.

2018.02.13 01:21 Network_Defender Job Posting for IT Network/Cyber Security

Hi Albuquerque,
I work for a company HQ'd in Chicago with a NOC here in ABQ, and we're looking to hire some folks in the Networking field.
This is specifically an entry level position that includes incident handling and Level 1/Level 2 support. We manage and support a number of products from a number of vendors including Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Checkpoint, and F5 - these are the big ones but we do see some other vendors as well.
Most of us came from CNM, and management has worked with some people in the past to offer part-time work while you finish your degree.
CCENT/CCNA or equivalent level of understanding is what we're looking for.
First and foremost, we are a cyber security company, so that's going to be a major focus. Here are some of the requirements:
There are plenty of opportunities to learn including practical training, instructor-led training (usually offered online), and other web-based training.
We do have medical, dental, vision, and a 401k as well as paid sick/vacation time.
Our NOC is 24/7/365, so evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays are required as needed. Shifts are usually 4 ten hours shifts and we're looking heavily for anyone that will work overnight (10p - 8a).
Please note that I'm not a recruiter nor am I HR. I'm just an employee at the NOC trying to help out our team so I'll be unable to field questions in that regard.
If you have any questions about day-to-day life or anything, don't hesitate to reach out. While you can apply through our HR department, I can get your information directly to my supervisor if it's a right fit.
If there's anything you think I should add to this post, please let me know and I'd be happy to add it if I can.
Please follow this link to visit the job posting on our website.

2017.11.26 19:15 NathanielArnoldR2 Express programmatically-accessible metadata in a PowerShell script?

A lot of my modules end up consuming configuration data expressed in PowerShell syntax (in the form of ps1 script files) to define implementations of their functionality. This data can be very complex, and often requires its own documentation, or metadata: a block comment at the top of the file. For the internal structure of this metadata, I have been using a format similar to that of comment-based help.
Recently, I've decided that I need to make this metadata programmatically accessible for (e.g.) validation of content and format, and filtering based on information (such as Tags, count of Issues, etc.) expressed therein. I was hoping that the classes facilitating comment-based help could be adapted to consume metadata in other forms into objects, but the PowerShell source suggests the parser of this syntax was not meant to be extended to serve any other purpose.
I foresee no great difficulty (just a bunch of work) rolling my own metadata parser using PowerShell, but if there are any existing tools built especially for this purpose I would like to evaluate them before I begin. Does anyone here have any suggestions? If there is a widely accepted format for expressing this data in a block comment, and a standard, extensible library for parsing it into an object, I would be willing to adopt that format in place of my own.
For clarity, below is an example of the sort of metadata I wish to consume, with certain distinguishing information removed.

So occasionally I come up with ideas for forum adventures, but don't have the time or inclination to do them. When this happens, I'll shove the idea up here and someone else can use it as their own! So if you've got time on your hands but no inspiration, keep checking back here! Here's a couple of ideas to start us off:
Picture the scene; the day has been won, the ancient evil has been sealed away by the guild of wise elders with the help of the ultimate weapon. But now that peace is at hand, you, the last Elder to go to his eternal rest, still has a task to complete. It has been forseen that the Evil will arise again in 100 years time, and a plucky hero will need to find the Ultimate Weapon to defeat him again. But how will the Weapon stay safe all that time? Its time to get DUNGEON BUILDING AND PUZZLE-TRAIL BLAZING.
Also, I had a vague idea about the guy who caught Guy Fawkes (Sir Thomas Knyvet, thanks Wikipedia) is tasked with forever patrolling the cellars of Parliament to protect the world above, and years later his descendants police the entire under-city of London, whose cellars and sewers have been expanded and connected over the years.
Feel free to steal these as your own, or add your own up-for-grabs ideas!

2012.01.27 00:41 heinekev Seeking Crossbeam ether-channel redundancy advice (XOS 8.5.4)

We have a Crossbeam X45 with redundant CPM, APM, & NPMs running XOS 8.5.4 and Checkpoint. Throughput requirements mandate that we use ether-channel to a pair of 6500s with Sup720 3Bs.
We have a hot-side/cold-side configuration and require the Crossbeam have a port channel to both switches for redundancy. This is where we're having an issue.
XOS redundant-interface commands do not work on ether-channels (group-interface), and their support suggested we use Split-MLT. That's not an option, it's a niche technology that was created by Nortel and inherited by Avaya... Cisco doesn't support it. For an enterprise device, this seems really short-sighted, so I'm curious if I got ahold of an engineer that relied on Google (as I did prior to calling him) rather than having expertise. This is where I turn to you, reddit!
Our current setup (per FishNet recommendation) has a single 4 port group-interface: two ports to 6509-A, two ports to 6509-B. It's important to note that this is a trunk that carries multiple vlans.
In this setup, failover relies on spanning-tree convergence and arp/mac table decay... it's fucking terrible. 6509B puts the ports in block, 6509A has them forwarding. If the port-channel goes down, spanning-tree converges and the ports on 6509B go into forwarding. Since it's a single group-interface, the Crossbeam does NOT send a gratuitous arp when the interfaces transition from blocked to forwarding. So unless we intervene, we rely on timeout values for ARP & the Mac table to restore traffic flow. The other issue is that established sessions do not recover, which is pretty much a deal breaker.
There HAS to be a better way to do this, even if the Crossbeam chassis itself doesn't have the feature-set. If we were to use single interfaces, we could rely on the redundant-interface command and achieve exactly what we're looking for, but our per-vlan throughput demands require more than 1gb. We're moving to 10gig very soon, but not soon enough. I don't want to run in this configuration longer than a few more days, and even that is a stretch.
I've stayed fairly vague in the details, but can put together a visio and more detailed explanation if needed.
