2024.05.13 14:14 Isaacja223 Alright, I feel like a few people don’t talk about this a lot

Alright, I feel like a few people don’t talk about this a lot
We died in Mario Madness cuz of Ultra M/Horror Mario beating us ala cheating (He made a bet where if we can beat him three times, we can leave, but that didn’t happen)
We technically died in Wednesday’s Infidelity because we went to Hell along with Mortimer and were trapped there for all eternity
We all know those for sure.
But how come nobody (at least from what I have seen) mention that in Hypno’s Lullaby, Hypno lured both BF and GF to a cave where they got trapped by Hypno and Girlfriend was mauled by Hypno (evident in Brimstone when White Hand shifted into GF. Probably might not what actually happened to GF, but the thought counts). And as for BF. He encountered Silver and his Feraligatr were at the (unused) ending of the song, “Insomnia”. Silver screams at her top of his lungs to wake up his Feraligatr and the Pokémon attacks and possibly devours Boyfriend, where he is sent to the Tower in Lavender Town, where he meets up with Gold, who has died of Hypothermia and Frostbite. (The ending cutscene might be implemented considering they are finishing up the mod)
I just wanted to mention that Hypno’s Lullaby gets overshadowed and shows that both BF and GF literally die. GF dies at the end of Lost Cause, BF dies at the end of “Insomnia”

Hey folks,
I've never been one for cheating with mods or editing saves or anything like that, but I'd love to know if there are any built in exploits like Mario 64s backwards wall jump, or Skyrim's fortify restoration loop that made it through all Rise's title updates. Especially anything that could cut back on grinding anomaly levels or churning through qurious armor upgrades in the end game.

2024.05.09 15:49 GhostHNW The Joy of Watching Random Speedruns From Random YT Search/ Recommendations and Speedrun.com

There's this inexplicable joy in watching a random speedrun of a game you never heard of, or well-known games on YT or speedrun.com. Everytime I feel bored, and feeling like I want to watch some random speedrun, well... I always have ESA to satiate that itch. And I always like to learn how the glitches in the run works by simply watching (that's years of experience as a glitch hunter for ya!)
Sometimes, those games can surprised you with its depth. And sometime you were so enamoured by it till you feel an ache because why didn't this game got a lot of spotlight. I mean, this shit is cool as fuck! And sometimes, those runs can inspire other to pick up the game, and/or begin their speedrun carrer.
Here, let me give you examples:
Ok, I'm gonna cheat here, and first talk about the game that I glitch hunted. Looking at the games, license games are usually my kind of forte, but I do branch out to original works as well. Racing and platformer are my go-to places, but again, I do branch out to TPS, and even two RPGs at one point (both I dropped).
First one was Shrek the Third. Anyone who's been around probably know me from this Reddit post. Yeah, that kinda kick start a whole revolution for about five years or so before I left due to inactivity. The epitome of this game's speedrun achievement would be GhostKir's Grimm difficulty WR on PC because it is a culmination of years of experimentation and knowledge, and an ending to a competition that is worthy of an M. Night Shaymalan. Like, Jesus, the ending to that whole competition was fucking insane!
Another notable run that I would like to discuss is Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: Cosmic Destruction. This game, on the surface may not seem like much, but it has only 5 years of history behind its speedrun history despite being released in 2010. And it has changed a lot. I would recommend the following in order to grasp the context of its history, because it is surely fascinating:
  1. Cobra's run at GSPS Dzieciom 2021 (in Polish)
  2. The First Sub Hour by Igor
  3. Sub 50 NG+ by Igor
  4. Sub 50 Any% by ExoticSponge
One more notable run is this episode of Going Places at GDQ Hotfix that features From Russia With Love and Ratatouille PSP, both that I'm a part of, which is an unexpected flex.
The two runs that got me into speedrunning were the Battle For Bikini Bottom run by Shift at AGDQ 2017 and Turo's run of Harry Potter 1 PC at ESA17. Both were influential for me not only as a speedrunner, but as a glitch hunter as well. But there are a lot more to it. Here are a few:
And so much more! And I just realised I only listed run appear on ESA, but that's why I love 'em.
Of course, lest we forget about the games outside the big two, hidden within YT. You just had to find it. Luckily, since I am one of the moderator of a marathon, I get to watch more obscure runs as I verified them full one-by-one. I mean, just take a look at the Obscurathon 3 schedule. It is stacked with quality speedrun that you either clearly never heard of, or never think to have a speedrun before.
I could list so much more, but I may about to reach Reddit's limit, so I'll stop here.
Speedrunning is much more than the Marios, Zeldas, and Sonics. There's also the little guys that quietly whittle down their favourite game little by little all on their own. I hope you guys decide to venture out the unexplored territory because you never know what lies beyond...

2024.05.06 06:04 regularyman Mario circuit 3 x Scott the Woz: The worst one apparently

Funding for the worst post of this subreddit is provided by: The bad guys, the sponsor of today’s shitpost.
Mario circuit 3 violently opened the entrance door, and try to closed it on Scott, but Scott managed to enter anyway, and start to beg Mario circuit 3:
Scott: Oh come on, it's a misunderstanding and stuff.
Mario circuit 3: SHUT UP! I SAW YOU RIDING ITS CURVE AND KNOCKING ON ITS PIPE
Scott: But Mario circuit 3, I swear, Mario circuit 4 is just a friend…
Mario circuit 3: A WHAT NOW? YOU ONCE SAID FUCK MARIO CIRCUIT 4! DID YOU ACTUALLY MEANT THAT YOU WANTED TO FUCK IT.
Scott: you are getting irrational…lets talk about something that might calm you down, like the weather app
Mario circuit 3: THE FUCK I AM NOT! I FORGAVE YOU WHEN YOU CHEATED ON ME WITH LUIGI CIRCUIT WII…
Scott: I told you it wasn't my fault…Luigi just makes me gassy…
Mario circuit 3: LET ME FINISH! YOU TOLD ME IT WAS MY MISTAKE (laughtrack.mp3) BECAUSE I WAS TOO “boring” SO I TRIED TO GET A GLOWUP, I REALLY TRIED, BUT IT WASNT ENOUGH FOR YOU! APPARENTLY I STILL REEKS LIKE A MARIO KART WII REMAKE! I STILL ISNT UP MY GAME, AND APPARENTLY, THATS WHY YOU PURSUE MARIO CIRCUIT 4!
Scott: Mario circuit 3…you know you are my favorite…you were remade the most from any kind of mario kart track…why would I even care about inferior mario circuit…
Mario circuit 3: MAYBE BECAUSE IM JUST A D TIER TRACK FOR YOU! YOU KNOW WHAT, LEAVE ME ALONE, GO BACK TO YOUR BITCH!
Mario circuit 3 then decide to go to its balcony, to try to cool down and forget about Scott the woz. While it tried to not burst into tears, looking at ducks flying away toward the sea, Scott eventually followed mario circuit 3 outside. Scott tried to break the ice by saying:
Scott: Amazing looking water huh?
Mario circuit 3 ignored him at first, and thought to itself “is he stupid” but Scott tried to insist:
Scott: Do you want my DK64 N64 controller to cheer you up?
Mario circuit 3 eventually decide to come back inside, in order to try to avoid Scott, but Scott followed it to the bedroom, where Mario circuit 3 turned on the wii.
Scott: Gonna play with yourself huh?
Mario circuit 3: shut the fuck up, and let mii dye in piece.
Scott: what? But we aren't in the critically acclaimed anime “Piece”
Mario circuit 3: that's why I usually don't date virgin, they are poodoo.
Scott: I know I am, and I'm sorry for failing you. You're awesome, baby. You're the one who taught me the true meaning of RPG. You're the one who introduced me to Madden 8. Hell, you were at the place than the chibi robot remaster for the wii. I should have been more grateful to you…and yet, I shat the bed. I blows.
Mario circuit 3, sobbing: I'm just tired…of being hated by everyone, for being “ugly” and “boring”, and once I finally though I found someone that loved me…that someone stabbed me in the back…twice…
Scott: I'm sorry ok? I took you for granted, I didn't give you my best, and I couldn't offer you the same love that you gave me, and I couldn't handle the rest…and yet, I love you, and yet I love you..
Mario circuit 3: kisses Scott the woz.
They eventually start to take off their clothes/colored blocs, and while starting to lay on the bed, scott, tearing up, exclaimed:,
Scott: Gex
And then, mario circuit 3 turned him into a cube with that one gun, idk, the end.
Now that that's is done, lets talk about another big disaster: you know what else is a big disaster? Request for schabbabirallosis to review “The Bad Guys”, 2022. Who has time for that? That's why you need to watch The Bad Guys directly instead. 2024.05.05 02:18 Switcheroo1474 Touhou Cast Discussion: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil Cast

Touhou Cast Discussion: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil Cast
In 1998, ZUN created the last installment of the PC-98 line of Touhou games, Mystic Square. After that, the series went on a hiatus that last nearly 4 years. Then in August of 2002, ZUN released Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, which was the first game of the Windows Era of Touhou and also served as a sort of reboot for the series. The cast of characters introduced here are some of the most iconic characters in the Touhou series. But who do I think of them?
That's what we'll find out in today's discussion.
Embodiment of Scarlet Devil Cast (from left to right): Daiyousei, Rumia, Cirno, Patchouli Knowledge, Hong Meiling, Flandre Scarlet, Remilia Scarlet, Sakuya Izayoi, Koakuma (Art by Dairi)
Rumia (Youkai of the Dusk)
The very first boss of the game. Rumia is a youkai with the ability to manipulate darkness. Usually characters that manipulate darkness are some of the strongest in, say, a video game for example, if not the final boss of said game. That's not the case with Rumia. She's one of the weakest characters in the entire series, and she's also pretty stupid. Still don't let her cute and innocent appearance full you. She's still a youkai who eats humans.
My Thoughts: By herself, Rumia is not a character I'm all too interested in. It's common to portray as being more powerful than she appears, which is supported by the fact that her ribbon is actually an amulet. Some say it's a seal to a stronger form. I'm not against this theory, but I'm not particularly for it either. I do like it whenever she's paired with her succeeding stage boss, Cirno (along with Daiyousei), but that's really about it. Not a character I hate, but not one I like that much either.
Daiyousei (Nameless Little Fairy)
Not an official character per se, but still one that's popular. As her suggests, Daiyousei was originally just a nameless mid-boss of Stage 2. She's commonly portrayed as a close friend of Cirno's and serves as sort of foil to her. What I mean is, whereas Cirno is confident, impulsive, and arrogant, this fairy is usually portrayed, as shy, cautious, and kind. People gave this fairy the name "Daiyousei", which means "greater fairy", and she's been a popular character in the Touhou community ever since.
My Thoughts: I like Daiyousei, but there's really not a lot to her. Usually she just appears in fan works to contrast with Cirno's more reckless personality and that's about it. Not much else to say about her.
Cirno (Ice Fairy of the Lake)
Cirno is an ice fairy who lives by Misty Lake. She takes pride in being the strongest, at least as far as fairies are concerned. And considering how weak fairies are in Touhou, it's not really saying a lot. Ironically, despite her power over ice, Cirno is a very hot-headed and reckless fairy. She's also known for being very stupid, even though it's canon that she's much smarter than most fairies.
My Thoughts: OK, I'm gonna be upfront and say this now. I've known about Panel de Pon long before I even knew what a Touhou was, and that game is known to star a cast of fairies that was replaced by the Yoshi's Island cast in the western releases. One of those fairies is Sherbet, the Fairy of Ice, who just so happened to also be the 2nd boss of VS. Mode. Ever since I got back into Panel de Pon, it's almost impossible for me to think about Sherbet without associating her with Cirno. ...The things Touhou does to a guy, amiright?
But enough of that. Cirno isn't one of my favorites, but I still think she's alright. In fact, I remember watching this rom hack of Super Mario World that adapts the events of Imperishable Night, and when I heard it's rendition of Cirno's theme "Beloved Tomboyish Girl", I was hooked, and for a while, it was probably one of my favorite Touhou songs. Even so, Cirno isn't one of favorite Touhou characters. I wouldn't say she's in my top 10 or even top 20. Still an alright character in my book.
Hong Meiling (Chinese Girl)
The gatekeeper and gardener of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Meiling is a youkai who hails from China. Despite being the gatekeeper, she's a pretty laid-back individual whose sometimes said to be a bit lazy. She very friendly for a youkai, even towards humans, so long as their not trespassing. She's known to also trade manga with her mistress and will even occasionally chat with any humans who pass by the mansion gates.
My Thoughts: I don't think I need to tell you that Hong Meiling is my favorite character out of the EoSD cast, if not my favorite Touhou character overall. I think it's a shame that the fandom writes her off as a lazy and useless gatekeeper when I feel like she has so much more potential than that. The fact we don't much about her or her past, makes for great potential fan works starring her. It's always interesting to see how fan works tackle those topics. You can write her as the very first to join the Scarlets, or the very last. The oldest or the youngest of the crew. As a regular youkai, or as being secretly a dragon. As lower in rank servant, an equal, a big sister figure, or even as a lover towards Sakuya. And I especially love it whenever she's shown to be good with children, and even acting like a big sister or even a motherly figure towards Flandre.
So yeah, as I said time and time again, Meiling's one of my favorite Touhou characters. I just wish she got the spotlight more often, whether in fan works, or even in canon.
Koakuma (Nameless Little Devil)
Like with Daiyousei, Koakuma isn't an official character. But she's still a popular one in fanon. Originally she was an unnamed midboss of the 4th stage. Then the fans gave her a look and a name, and the rest is history. Koakuma is portrayed in a variety of ways. Whether as an obedient and good-natured familiar to Patchouli, a mischievous prankster, or even more... seductive takes on the character. Some even outright portray her as being a succubus.
My Thoughts: There's not much I can say about Koakuma that I haven't already said about Daiyousei. She usually contrasts with Patchouli's more cold and serious-minded personality, but that's about it. Koakuma's alright; It's just not a lot to say about her.
Patchouli Knowledge (The Unmoving Great Library)
Patchouli is a youkai magician who lives in the mansion's underground library. She claims to have never left the library for over a century. Patchouli is the brains of the mansion, serving as it's librarian and tutor. She's very smart and knowledgable about magic, but she's also very frail and sickly. She also has a dry personality, and isn't afraid to snark at someone unprovoked. Despite this, she's still Remilia's best friend. They even have nicknames for each other, being "Remi" and "Patche" respectively.
My Thoughts: I don't like Patchouli all that much. There's something about her personality that just rubs me the wrong way. It's funny, because I do see a bit of myself in her. I consider myself very introverted and usually end up being the driest one in the room. Regardless, Patchouli is probably my least favorite member of the SDM Crew.
Sakuya Izayoi (Perfect and Elegant Maid)
Sakuya is the sole human living in the Scarlet Devil Mansion. She's serves as the Chief Maid and is quite possibly Remilia's most loyal servant. I don't think I need to tell you that Sakuya is infamous for taking some inspiration from Dio Brando of the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure series, as she's able to manipulate time and also utilize knives for combat. Even in canon, Sakuya's past is something of an enigma. Some say "Sakuya" is not even the maid's real name. Others say that she may not even be human at all...
My Thoughts: First of all, I just want to say "Night of Nights" a popular remix of Sakuya's theme from Phantasmagoria of Flower View, "Flowering Night", was one of the first Touhou songs I ever listened to. Before I got into Touhou, I remember hearing the song in Death Battle's "Amy Rose vs Ramona Flowers" episode, as well as one video where Nathaniel Bandy goes through various Mario 64 Slide rom hacks. So I will say that I do hold some nostalgia for the song in particular.
Other than that, my opinion on Sakuya varies from work to work. In some fan works, I think she's fine. And canon-wise, I won't say I particularly hate her. However, coming from some who has watched Rampaging Sakuya before I got really into Touhou or even knew who Meiling was, let alone considered her my favorite 2hu, the majority of fan works that Sakuya appears in make her REALLY unbearable. Mostly because she's often shown outright abusing Meiling, or making her simp for Remilia, which can often come across as REALLY REALLY CREEPY.
Also, screw Lost Word Sakuya. It's clear that some on the devs team really like the maid, so they decided to make "Lossy" develop some sort of crush on her. But in the game itself, she's unlikeable. They keep having her chew out Meiling because "haha funny lazy useless gatekeeper plz laugh", she scolds or even punishes other even when they just slightly screw up, and yet she gets away with morally questionable actions herself, and she (to my knowledge) NEVER gets called out for it. Case and point, It was really screwed up when she cheated in the Little Sister Event and got away with it. Honestly, I would risk getting stabbed to death just so I could sock LW Sakuya in the face!
So yeah, my feelings on Sakuya are mixed. Sometimes I'm fine with her, sometimes I'm not. It ultimately depends.
Remilia Scarlet (The Scarlet Devil)
Remilia is the mistress of the Scarlet Devil Mansion and the final boss of Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. She may look and act like a spoiled little child, but she's actually a 500 year old vampire who supposedly has the ability to manipulate fate. Remilia is arrogant, childish, charismatic, and takes pride in being one of the most feared youkai in Gensokyo, though that fear is mostly just due to her being a vampire. She's also not above playing along with games or being manipulated if it means alleviating boredom.
My Thoughts: Remilia thinks she's so hot. But she's not. Hehe. In all seriousness, Remilia's not really a favorite of mine. She's not the bottom of the barrel, but I do prefer other members of the cast. One thing I do like about her though is that, despite being the egomaniacal 500 year old brat she is, she's really not that bad of a mistress. She's very friendly with Meiling, Patchouli, and is especially close to Sakuya. She pretty allows her servants to leave whenever they feel like, and she'll pretty much forces you to take a break if she feels like you need it. In a world where most masters don't treat their servants all to well, I'll admit, Remilia gets points for benevolence.
That aside, I don't know what it is, but do feel as though Remilia just sort of stands out from the other final bosses. Think about it. The pantheon of final bosses consists of immortals, religious leaders, masters of the dead, and even goddesses amongst others. I don't what it is, but to me, even considering characters like Kokoro, Shinmyoumaru, and even Sumireko, Remilia just sort of... stands out for some reason. Maybe it's 'cuz most of these bosses look more adult compared to her... I dunno. It's probably just me.
Flandre Scarlet (The Sister of the Devil)
Remilia's little sister and the extra stage boss of Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. Flandre is one of, if not, THE MOST popular character in the Touhou Project series. She was locked into the basement for 495 years due to her destructive powers and her insane personality. Not that she minds. In Foul Detective Satori, we learn this Flandre is actually a lot smarter than she lets on, and also something of a shut-in.
My Thoughts: Flandre confuses me to no end. There's a lot talk about what portrayals are the closest to her canon personality. She's clearly not as murderous or insane as the fans make her out to be, but she's also not as innocent as they make her either. And while I personally like it when she's paired with Meiling as sort of a mother-daughter relationship, it's almost impossible nowadays to talk about their relationship without someone bringing up the fact that Flandre tried to strangle Meiling in FDS without hesitation. What I think I'm trying to say is, it's kind of hard to put your own spin on Flan while still trying to be as close to canon as possible, at least for me. The same could very well apply to any and all Touhou characters, but recently I feel it's especially the case for Flandre.
As for her song, again, it's one of the first Touhou songs I recall hearing, so there is some nostalgia there, but nowadays I do personally prefer listening to other songs in the series. But still, U.N. Owen was Her? is a huge ear worm for me.
Before I end this Flan's section, I'm going to say this now: I get the feeling that if Flandre and Koishi meet in FDS, it's going to debunk the portrayal about the two being best friends...
Overall: I think the best way to describe EoSD and it's cast is that it's the Mega Man 2 of Touhou Project. What I mean is this: Mega Man 2 is the most popular game in the classic series, if not the entire franchise. It has the most famous weapons, songs, Robot Masters, and if Mega Man is to represented in anyway shape or form in a crossover like Smash Bros., it's likely they're gonna pull most of the references from MM2. That's how I feel about EoSD. Even if you knew nothing about Touhou, you'd most certainly recognize characters like Cirno, Sakuya or Flandre, or one of their themes like Flowering Nights/Night of Nights or U.N. Owen was Her?. Even so, I wouldn't say it's my favorite cast of characters. The only character here I really like here is Meiling. With everyone else, I feel closer to indifference. They're no bad, but they're not who come to mind when I think of Touhou characters that I like.
  1. Hong Meiling
  2. Cirno
  3. Flandre Scarlet
  4. Daiyousei
  5. Koakuma
  6. Sakuya Izayoi
  7. Remilia Scarlet
  8. Patchouli Knowledge
But this is all just my opinion. Let me know what you think of the EoSD cast. Do they deserve all the fame they get, or are they overrated?
Next time we'll talk about the cast for Perfect Cherry Blossom.

2024.05.04 23:19 bitpicnic Parallel Emulator Cheat Code Bug

I have been using parallel launcher for a few days especially Mario 64. One problem I have been having is that the emulator can not handle more than 2 cheat codes at a time depending on the intensity. For instance I tried adding 3 save state codes and when I did it immediately crashed. Is there some other launcher better suited for loading cheat codes or is this just all the rom can handle?

2024.05.04 17:26 Creature30 Hollow Knight Is My New Favourite Indie Game Of All Time

You ever had a experience that you just felt was just made for you a experience that combined so many things you love that there's no way it exists. Well that is the exact scenario i was in when i discovered a little Indie Game that managed to give me everything i could have ever asked for. Now already i love Indie Games due to how they always try not only scratch that particular itch but also give there own spin on it. Some of my favorites include Shovel Knight for its twist on Mega Man, A Hat In Time for its combination of both 3D Platformers and Collectethons, Bug Fables for its Paper Mario formula both in its design and its mechanics, And of course Dust An Elysian Tale for its incredible art str level design combat story characters and soundtrack. Each of these games not only are some of my favorite games in there specific genres but also are some of my favorite games of all time. However one genre that i absolutely adore is the absolutely phenomenal MetroidVania which combines Collectethon elements as well as Zeldas use of abilities to progress. And while some of my favorite games come from this genre including the previously mentioned Dust. The one game that i think perfectly captures everything i love not just about this genre but video games as a whole. Is a game that has recently become my favorite Indie game of all time and MetroidVania called Hollow Knight. Hollow Knight has just about everything i could ever ask for in a video game including great story characters lore level design gameplay combat atmosphere music and of course boss fights. And so i am going to go through each individual aspect and flesh out just how much i adore this game. So if you're interested i will be breaking this down into chapters for easy access especially if you only care about one category over the other. But with all of that said its about time to finally take a deep dive into the world of Deep Nest and this little game called Hollow Knight.
Ch 1 Showing Not Telling. The Lore. I honestly love a good story as it can get me immersed in the world and give me the drive to keep continuing. And while Hollow Knight does indeed give you that every now and then in the main quest. Like Dark Souls the real good stuff isn't always told to you right away if at all. No instead you need to piece together things yourself through the games world dialogue item descriptions and of course even your own theories. This gives off a real mysterious feeling and defiantly gets you invested in the world of Hollow Nest and it's inhabitants something i can appreciate.
Ch 2 Style Over Substance. The Design. Just like a lot of Indie games due to not having a big budget sometimes they have to get creative with different ideas of how to cut costs. Take Bug Fables for example where though it has the Paper esthetic they didn't just decide to have just copy paste characters. Instead they got to work and came up with there own unique spin they decided to design there entire world based around bugs. So just like Bug Fables Hollow Knight had to come up with a similar concept and they went with you guessed it bugs. This means that nearly every single NPC Enemy and everything else in between are bug themed though they still have there own unique personalities. However even though you are essentially playing as bugs that doesn't mean the developers are just going to let it end there. Team Cherry has created a world so immersive and diverse it honestly blows my mind with what they come up with. So the whole game you are going through this place called Hollow Nest which lives underground. This means that everything you will end up seeing is all designed to be underground. But believe me when i say that it doesn't stop the insane amount of variety that you will be seeing throughout the game. From dark caves to grassy areas crystal peaks and even a fungi infested wastland. Each of these are not only breathtaking but also gives you chances to explore and get sucked into this world that is laid before you. The entire game also has a ton to interact with like the aforementioned many different characters. But also the world itself from it's traps treasures many different sidequests and of course tons and tons of lore. Trust me when i say that this game never gets boring as there is plenty to do and explore showcasing the blood swet and tests that was put into this amazing world of Hollow Nest. It honestly reminds me of the great world design of The Legend Of Zelda Franchise which is one of my favorite video game franchises ever made.
Ch 3 Genius Mechanics. The Gameplay. Every good game needs equally good if not great gameplay and controls. And since this is a Metroidvania one of my all time favorite genres of games. The first thing that needs to be in a good Metroidvania is great controls and Hollow Knight nails this down perfectly. Now to create a good set of controls Hollow Knight actually uses different games as inspiration. Like the Heart Pieces from The Legend Of Zelda or the Pogo Jump from Shovel Knight. But of course the real meat and potatoes is in your abilities because if there's one thing i in Metroidvanias it's abilities. There are some staples of the genre like the Double Jump The Speed Dash and the Ground Smash. However there is also unique abilities that Hollow Knight incorporates like The Shadow Dash Wall Climb and how it handles it's Magic System. I won't say to much about the Magic System since it will be covered during combat but lets just say its amazing. Now while all of these abilities are great and all despite the games amazing tight controls there is two other aspects of Hollow Knight that I want to talk about The Map and Charms. A Map is one of the most important items in any game but especially so for Metroidvanias. It is your way of navigating and figuring out where you need to go. Though with the all around feeling of Hollow Knight and it's atmosphere sometimes you just want to explore yourself without a guide. Well Hollow Knight just so happens to have the best of both worlds letting you get lost stumbling your way around until you end up finding Cornifer who will sell you the map of the specific area for a small fee. This means you will have to rely on your own memory and navigational skills to make your way through each area until you find Cornifer by tracking down his paper and his humming. While this is a great idea there is one thing i don't like about this and that's you have to bye a Quill before the map will be drawn in. Unfortunately due to something i will talk about during the combat segment this can be tedious at the beginning of the game. Other than though i really love this game and it's gameplay as it's extremely addicting to want to keep exploring and it has a really great flow that keeps you engaged and about those Charms well you'll just have to wait and see in the combat Chapter.
Ch 4 Simplicity Has Depth. The Combat. So as a surprise to absolutely nobody i adore this games combat. A great combat system can really make or break a game for me as combat is probably one of the things i look forward to in a video game. This doesn't mean the combat has to be as flashy or satisfying like most of my favorite games. All i ask for is just fun enemies to fight and bosses to overcome. Not everything has to be combo heavy as Platinum DMC or Kingdom Hearts. Or as strategic and free flow like Zelda Resident Evil or most RPGs Like Xenoblade and Final Fantasy. Some combat mechanics could be as simple as Spyro and just involve you attacking the enemy once to kill them. Now of course Hollow Knight isn't quite as basic like that but you do get my point. Though Hollow Knight appears that way at first glance there is a lot more depth under the surface. It starts out pretty simple to understand you slash with your Nail left right up and down with your Pogo Slash. However this means that you focus more on the enemies Telagraphs and your placement and this goes double for the boss fights. Of course this isn't everything as there is also your Magic which is called Soul and this is where things get interesting. Soul is connected to everything including casting spells healing and even some of your abilities cost Soul. Meaning that Soul is pretty important right since it's connected to all of this stuff and has different uses. But the question remains what happens when you run out since there will be plenty of times where you know doubt will. Well aside from certain statues and maybe a ancient pool you're only way of getting it back is by attacking with your Nail. This is because just like Kingdom Hearts it incentives you to get into combat more often than not. Its actually really genius since you won't spend so much time running due to the only way to get in a good Heal is by fighting enemies its just freaking fantastic. Then there's your Charms which acts like sort of buffs or cheats that give you different properties. Like being able to gain more Soul of being able to attack quickly a lot of these changes the dynamic in the game pretty significantly. Once again though you can only carry so many Charms so just like your Soul you have to pick and choose what you really want. They kind of remind me of Paper Mario or Bug Fables Badges since they also act like the same way. Like prioritizing navigation over making your Nail be able to hit farther away there's a real strategy and it kept me engaged the entire time. Unfortunately though there is one thing that might turn people off and that's what happens when you die. Because like Dark Souls when you for you lose your currency and this means if you can't make it back to that spot you will lose everything. Despite this i really do like this combat system especially how it actually makes use of your abilities for not just traversal and platforming but for combat as well just like another Indie Game Dust An Elysian Tale.
Ch 5 The World Of Hollow Nest. The Level Design. Everybody will probably tell you that I'm a sucker for a good selection of levels. A great level can really heighten a game to greater heights then ever before. I'm not going to lie the levels here might just be my new favorite lineup in any game. What really makes these levels standout so much is both the way they are structured and there inclusion in the world itself. As i eluded to earlier each of these unique locations have there own gimmicks designs and enemies to make them always standout. Having great platforming segments combat encounters and even tons of secrets to find making these levels really stick with you. Honestly these areas really reminds me a lot of Shovel Knight and its level layouts. Which considering Shovel Knight has some of my favorite levels in all of gaming that is definitely a compliment. Just like Shovel Knight Hollow Knight also knows how to trust you to learn how things work. Because instead of just teaching you Hollow Knight gives you a test of what's to come and then slowly builds on it the further you get. Like in the Fungal Wastes you have to Pogo bounce on these mushroom flowers to propel yourself upward just like Shovel Knight. In the Crystal Peaks you have to go through factory obstacles like conveyor belts smashing machines and even Lasers. Each of these areas not only teach you by having you learn from experience. But they also have a lore reason for being there and how the world works getting you immersed. Some of my favorites includes Fungi Wastes, Crystal Peaks, and Kingdoms Edge which is a snowy looking location that even has a arena called The Colosseum Of Fools. And just like some of my favorite levels of all time my favorite area in the game combines all of the elements i just said along with great atmosphere music and gameplay. Now once you get through a good portion of the game having gone through some pretty amazing tense and epic stuff. Eventually you make it to a giant door and enter it just as you feel save though the door locks you in. This is to make sure that you have to continue on since this next location is possibly one of the most important. Because as you make your way through these winding corridors with Soldiers around every corner. Finally you make it to some semblance of safety as you discover a bench which when you sit on it the music swells the camera pans out to reveal a gorgeous raining city amply called The City Of Tears. That moment hits different after everything you have been through you finally have time to finally reflect on how far you have come. This level is easily one of my favorite levels of all time and easily my favorite location in the game. From it's atmosphere being a raining city due to it being built underneath the great Blue Lake. To the music being one of my favorite tracks in the game sounding both somber and majestic but also somehow mysterious. The gameplay being a perfect test of all of your skills and abilities you have acquired both in the level design and in combat. And finally the lore behind this place which i won't spoil it here but let's just say it's pretty dark. All of this culminates in the creepy and challenging Soul Sanctum. Which involves tough enemies that can cast Magic eerie music and ends with one.Of the best bosses in the game Soul Master. Speaking of bosses it's time to dive into what is arguably the best moments in any game the Boss Battles.
Ch 6 Spectacular Boss Design. The Boss Battles. Boss Fights are easily my favorite part in any video game from there story atmosphere gameplay music and just overall fun factor can't be understated. And while there is a ton of games that have some of my favorite bosses ever made such as. Kingdom Hearts, The Legend Of Zelda, Metroid, Resident Evil, DMC, Platinum Games, From Softwhere, Xenoblade, Final Fantasy, Spider Man, Kirby, Mario, Sonic, Lego, Mega Man, and more recently Prince Of Persia The Lost Crown. Not to mention the one off games like Shovel Knight A Hat In Time and Bug Fables. Each of these franchises and individual games have absolutely incredible boss fights and some that i would consider as my favorites. Yet despite all of this i would defiantly say that Hollow Knight not only would deserve to be up there. But honestly is probably in my top five favorite roster of bosses and let me just tell you it's pretty stiff competition. Hollow Knight not only checks off all of my boxes for how to make amazing boss fights. But also has a staggering amount of them im not kidding there is over Thirty Boss Battles and most of them are amazing. So instead of talking about the all around boss quality i decided that I'm going to give a few examples of just how great these bosses are. As well as also showing off my favorites starting off with the first boss. By the way Major Spoilers!!!!!!!!! from here on out so lets get into it.
False Knight. Every good game needs a great intro that tests you with everything to get you ready for the rest of the game. This means that when making a first boss it needs to follow this premise as well. Already the first are was really great The Forgotten Crossroads. Teaching you everything you need to know as well as being just a great area in general. But then you eventually meet the first mandatory boss of the game The False Knight. And i think that the first boss The False Knight does all of this exceptionally well and is one of my favorite first bosses. He's big he's strong and very intimidating for a first time player while also being well telegraphed to get to terms with. I also really love his gimmick of not being able to actually damage him and therefore not be able to get Soul until he's stunned is really amazing. Plus i love the lore about him how he's just a squishy helpless creature that just wanted to become a knight is really kinda sad. Then there is his music which just like the test of the boss themes is absolutely fantastic and fits the fight perfectly. Overall this fight should be the standard of how to make a first boss because this one stands the test of time.
Soul Master. The build up to this battle is just amazing already i loved the City Of Tears and everything it taught you. But then The Soul Sanctum just took that to a whole nother level. Between the enemies the Spell Casters and the Mutants as well as the Mini Boss already great. This finally leading up to the encounter against the boss of the Sanctum Soul Master. Who fights you on top of the roof as you overlook the City Of Tears in the pouring rain and then the fight begins. Soul Master attacks you primarily with spells while also teleporting around. Sometimes he will even try to rush at you which you have to Pogo off of or he will try to ground pound which creates shockwaves that you have to avoid. However this is your chance to use everything you have learned in order to best this cunning foe. Once you finally deal enough damage he will drop your well deserved power up the Ground Smash and just when your about to grab it. Soul Master Slams through the floor and out of pure rage tries to kill you with everything he has. This leads into the second phase where he will try to smash you continuously. But he will eventually get exhausted this leading him open to attack while he just hurls spells at you. And then there's the music which has a choir to fit the dramatic battle and even includes the Light Motif of the main area just like the rest of the boss themes. This fight was just payoff and satisfaction at its finest and is a way to cap off your first visit to the City Of Tears.
Mantis Lords. I love the Mantis Village the build up to this place and it's Mantis Tribe being called some of the greatest warriors ever already set the tone. Then going through this place having to get The Mantis Claws so you can Wall Climb and gain access to the City Of Tears. Only to have the option of coming back having to contend with these Mantis Warriors who aren't even controlled by The Infection and there traps is just awesome and made this place really memorable. Then we make it to there leaders three sister's called The Mantis Lords. Who we have the opportunity to challenge them and if we beat them we earn the respect of the Mantises and they give us access to there locked away secrets and won't attack us. However this is easier said than done since the Mantis Lords are pretty freaking challenging and won't give us an inch. This means we really have to prove ourselves that we are worthy and boy what fight it is. It starts out with a giant Steel Cage and spikes in each side of the arena meaning you have to keep a eye on your positioning. We start out by fighting only one of the Mantis Lord's as we get a fast of the attacks we'll be dealing with. But eventually after we best the first one though the remaining two will tag team making this turn into a Gank Battle. But it's not unfair as we already should have gotten used to the attack patterns of The Mantis Lord's by now. Accompanying this epic battle is a glorious boss theme which the frantic battle and just makes this already phenomenal boss battle even better. Once you best The Mantis Lord's in combat not only do they open the gates letting through to Deep Nest. You also earn the respect and honor of some of the greatest warriors ever definitely a well earned reward. In conclusion this boss fight has everything you could ever want to make it truly a perfect battle. From build up to the atmosphere and the gameplay slowly ramping up the difficulty and of course the music being a perfect track to fit the tempo of the fight. Plus the reward afterwards makes this boss battle really special and would make my top five favorite bosses easy. Yet believe me when i say this isn't even my favorite boss in the game yet and that is just a testament of the quality of this games bosses.
Broken Vessel. One of the biggest mysteries of the game is who you are and what you are doing since you kind of just show up due to a presence beckoning you. This mystery gets deeper and deeper as you meet certain characters who seem to call you either a savior or destroyer. Which makes you start to wonder just why did you show up here and who was that was calling you. And while we will get to the who called you latter you do eventually find out what you are and what your purpose is by going to a place called Ancient Basin. Now let's just say that this place doesn't really seem very welcoming instead it feels empty and eerie not to mention it's at the bottom of Hollow Nest one of the scariest area's in the game. This all creates a kind of mysterious atmosphere from the enemies to the design of the place and even the ambiance instead of music. All of this leads up to the actual boss fight which instead of fighting a creepy or terrifying monster at the end. Instead you end up seeing a familiar figure who looks a lot like you except it is dead . But just as you get close to it the figure awakens reanimated by the Infection this is revealed to be a Broken Vessel. That moment hits hard since this is the first time finding out just what you are and your purpose to contain the Infection. And now you stand before what is essentially your sibling seeing him possessed by the Infection and now you have to fight him and the fight is fantastic. To start out this battle feels like a really good battle of equals as Broken Vessel has a ton of attacks he can whip out. Being able to bounce around the arena, charging at you with his Nail either from the ground or the air, produce orange blobs of the Infection to attack you or even track you. and even attack you mindlessly with his Nail just to keep you on your toes. Last but certainly not least Broken Vessel at half health will occasionally unleash a desperation attack where he will bombard you with tons of Infection Blobs. Unfortunately though once you beat him the Infection will leave him and he dies with one last gasp before collapsing. This fight was really tragic and sad having to put one of your own siblings out of there misery. The music is is actually very subtle and somber and atmosphere with the wind blowing really capturing that feeling even more and trust me it gets worse.
Hornet. Rivals tend to be some of my favorite bosses since they usually have great build by antagonizing you multiple times throughout the game. Plus the added benefit of them being able to sometimes level up with you making for a evolution of both your skills and your rivals. Then of course there's just the fact of fighting a battle against someone who is either in your same weight class or has a similar skill set like you do that just gets the heart pumping. Some of my favorite boss fights of all time just so happens to be rivals due to them being the ultimate test for you and your skills. My favorite example probably being Vergil for his evolution contrasting appearance and his character and boss fights were just so epic some of the best in all of gaming. And so you could imagine reaction when i got introduced to would be my rival in Hollow Knight Hornet. Who not only has great build up from you slowly following her throughout the second area Green Path. We eventually find her only for her to call is ghost and that are kind shouldn't be exempted around here. This is further displayed by the sight of her impaleing a similar figure like us thus beginning the fight and It Is Glorious. Hornet has quite a bit of attacks she can dish out and with her Nail and the usage of Silk she can get pretty unpredictable. Her attacks includes being able to throw her Nail at you and pull it back, Darting around the arena with her silk making her a very nimble opponent, and last but certainly not least she can charge a barrier of Silk around her damaging anyone who gets to close meaning you have to be aware of you positioning. Once you beat her she flees and you examine the other body to retrieve the MothWing Cloak which allows you to Dash. After that though you encounter Hornet a few times even trying to help you during some moments. This all leads up to you finally encountering her again at Kingdoms Edge where she challenges you to one last duel. To prove that you are ready to finally find out the truth of your reasoning for being created thus beginning the final battle against Hornet The Sentinel. She has mostly her same moves she had before with a couple of new tricks to mix it up. Being able to Parry your attacks like you can which you have to pay attention to. And at half health she's will sometimes set traps all around the arena this combined with her previous attacks can be an extremely dangerous combo so be careful. That and her increased speed and health makes her definitely one of the hardest bosses in the game. Meanwhile the music during both of these fights immediately captures the essence on this intense rivalry. Afterwards Hornet lets you pass and you retrieve the Kings Seal which allows you go deeper in the Ancient Basin into The Abyss. Rivals are considered to be some of my favorite bosses in all of gaming and Hornet definitely scratches that well needed itch.
Hollow Knight. Finally after so long it's time to talk about the reason why you we're called to Hollow Nest. And it just so happens to be the one who has been built up since the beginning of the game the Hero Of Hollow Nest and namesake of the game The Hollow Knight. Because as it turns out The Hollow Knight is your sibling as well and was tasked with containing the source of The Infection inside of him. This is why The Ruler Of Hollow Nest The Pale King created you and your siblings without emotions so you could just be vessels. Now while most of them were failures and couldn't even resist the power of The Infection there was one who was created to be perfect The Hollow Knight. However eventually both The Pale King and The Hollow Knight basically became emotionally attached like a father and son. Unfortunately this means that The Infection was able to manipulate that attachment and use it to corrupt The Hollow Knight. But before The Infection could escape The Pale King sealed away The Hollow Knight in order to stop The Infection from spreading across Hollow Nest. Of course as you know this didn't stop The Infection for long and eventually it slowly escapes from the Sealed Chamber The Black Egg Temple. Thus begins are journey where we are called to this place by are brother and he wants us to stop The Infection since he didn't. Leading up to the inevitable confrontation against your brother after breaking all of the seals The Dreamers cast and traversing the new Infected Crossroads. Making it to The Black Egg Breaking The Seal and finally ending up face to face with The Hollow Knight after all of this build up is one of the most satisfying feelings ever. Then after all of that and you severing the chains that bind The Hollow Knight the final battle begins. First of all let me just get this out of the way this is probably one of my favorite bosses ever made. Everything is just perfect the atmosphere the build up the music and the gameplay is just absolutely magnificent. It starts off like a really epic battle of equals with The Hollow Knight being able to perform quite a few attacks like. Multiple slashes with his Nail, a thrust with his Nail, firing blobs of Infection from his arm, being able to Perry your attacks, and last but not least jumping in the air stabbing the ground and releasing a AOE attack that erupts Infection all around the ground which if you get hit by it will do double damage to you. Yeah it's a lot to keep up with and is definitely a perfect final duel that will put all of your skills to the ultimate test. But that is until about half health where the music crescendos and The Hollow Knight starts stabbing himself almost as if he wants you to kill him. At this point the battle changes into a more somber and tragic affair as while the Hollow Knight will sometimes still try to attack you he will either try to stab himself again or just out right stumble. Instead you are fighting Infection as it flings The Hollow Knights body around like The Broken Vessel. Or The Infection will just shoot out all over the arena from The Hollow Knights body in a desperate attempt to try and kill you. While the gameplay might be absolutely amazing the music is just on a whole nother level and depicts this fight brilliantly. It's called The Sealed Vessel and it starts out extremely epic with a entire orchestra. then it crescendos with sharp notes when the stabbing happens. only for the piece to change into a more melancholic track with just a single note being repeated over and over again showcasing the regret and acceptance The Hollow Knight feels. And once you finally defeat The Hollow Knight you either take his place as the next vessel. Or if you did everything right to meet the requirements you continue on to another battle which is.
The Radiance. Final Bosses should be a final exam of everything you have learned throughout the entire game. That and they should usually have the best atmosphere build up gameplay and music in the game. While The Hollow Knight was already probably one my favorite boss battles of all time. There is however yet another final boss the true final boss to be exact which you can fight only if you have all of the necessary requirements. Which is two halves of something that if combined can be turned into something called The Pure Heart. Now the how to get this item is pretty tough since getting each one of the two halves is honestly one of the hardest things I've ever done. Between Queens Gardens with its tough traps enemies and boss make for a pretty intense gauntlet. Then there is accessing The White Palace with your aforementioned upgraded Dream Nail. And The White Palace itself has some of the most ridiculous platforming i have ever seen. However once you do all of that you still have one more thing left to do and that is take The Pure Heart back to the Abyss. Which will then trigger a long scene in which The Main Protagonist finds out the truth which transforms The Pure Heart into The Void Heart. After all of that though you're still not done as you still have to defeat The Hollow Knight and use The Dream Nail on him to enter his mind. Finally after everything you have gone through its time to confront the source of The Infection a deity named The Radiance. Unfortunately though right now i want to get the bad news out of the way first because whenever you want to fight The Radiance you have to always fight The Hollow Knight. Other then that though man is this a extremely amazing final boss fight even before you even begin the fight. The Radiance stands high above you shrouded by clouds awaiting your just like The Mantis Lord's did. Once you do The Radiance will now away the clouds and appear in front of you. Unlike regular bosses which just have there title name pop up with The Radiance the screen goes bright and then The Radiance title name pops up to showcase this extraordinary being. Another thing that makes The Radiance different from every single other adversary you have fought up till now is that The Radiance does double damage with every single attack. Luckily though at the very least there is no contact damage from The Radiance probably because The Radiance is a deity. Oh and of course The Radiance also has a choir along with other instruments just another reason to make this boss really stand out. Speaking of attacks The Radiance has also got quite a huge arsenal and sometimes can even combine some. Attacks include summoning a wave of light which has to be shadow dashed through. Summoning waves of swords that you have to either jump through or platform over. Shooting either three laser beams or streams of swords at you from the Radiance itself. And of course summon balls of light which hones in a your position just like The Enemies of The Soul Sanctum. It all sounds like quite a lot and believe me it is but its also supposed to be like that. That and you have just as much opportunities to be able to damage The Radiance especially with Magic which it's weak to. Plus this is the true final boss meaning you should have every single ability and this boss puts them to the test. Especially since The Radiance has multiple phases each with the arena shifting thus changing the dynamic of the battle every time. The first phase involves you on a flat platform while The Radiance sometimes will summon swords for you to Pogo off of. The second phase sees you and teleporting around the battlefield as you have to jump between multiple platforms. And finally the third has The Radiance flying high up in the sky trying to avoid The Many Vessels coming after it. Meanwhile you have to keep climbing up platforms in order to reach The Radiance while avoiding is many laser beams it shoots at you. All of this leads up to what is essentially the most satisfying finisher ever as you and your hundreds of siblings including The Hollow Knight. Unleash all of your furry and absolutely destroys The Radiance ending this never ending nightmare once and for all. Unfortunately though after all of that we are treated to a bitter sweet ending. Where even though The Infection has been dealt with it came at a price. As both The Main Protagonist and all of his siblings sacrificed themselves in order to vanquish The Radiance. Both The Hollow Knight and The Radiance creates one of the best final boss experiences I've ever had and this still isn't my favorite boss in the game so what could possibly top this.
Grimm. Now it's finally time to talk about not just my favorite boss in the game but one of my favorite boss fights of all time but first i need to give some context. So while there were many DLCS that slowly got added overtime my favorite and the one i was most interested in had to be The Grimm Troup Expansion. Which not only promised a ton of things including new story bosses music and more. But just in general i really love the design and atmosphere that this DLC brought to the table. Since it's a sort of Carnival/ Spooky type of environment which since i love Halloween so much is usually something I'm really into. Not only that though it also introduced some really colourful characters including. A Spide Worm looking woman who can improve your Fragile Charms. A harmonica playing dude who looks like he's pretty anxious about something. And finally there's there leader Grimm who has a great design and honestly gives me Dracula vibes. He also will be the one who we are doing a task for which involves taking care of our new Grimm Child which was given to us by Grimm. By killing these little ghost guys and feeding the flames to our little one which will help him continue to grow. Eventually after enough of that Grimm will challenge is to a duel which will once again help feed the child And This Fight Is Magnificent. Starting off the battle Grimm will actually now to the crowd in the background before fighting. If you hit him though while he is bowing he will attack you more aggressively for your lack of honor for this fight. Grimm has quite a bit of attacks up his sleeve like summoning bats a flaming uppercut dive kick and sprouting spikes from the ground. Plus Grimm has an attack where he blows up like a balloon and shoots our waves of fire balls that you must jump through just like The Radiance. Luckily though he only does this attack at each 25% threshold of his health that and he's weak to spells in this form. All of this gives a sort of dance to the death kind of feeling especially since Grimm will even react based on your position. This battle also has probably my favorite piece of music in the entire game. Where it starts out with a organ to fit the Dracula inspired foe. Then the choir starts kicking along with a whole orchestra. And finally a freaking guitar kicks in halfway to really get you pumped up for this fast paced battle. However after all of that Grimm still isn't done with you and asks you to go seek out more flame. Before you do that however the music playing guy tells you the true identity of Grimm and says how he wants you to banish Grimm instead. Because if you keep going through with the ritual he says Grimm will eventually be reborn through the child and will continue to cause chaos around multiple universe's. But if you decide to go through with his ritual then after getting enough flame you find Grimm sleeping and have to use Dream Nail on him. Then you enter a weird looking area where you keep hearing this thumping sound which turns out to be this giant heart in the background. Our of nowhere Grimm tips through the heart with the whole place shacking like the universe is tearing apart just by this entities mere presence. Eventually though just as he's about to make his appearance unlike The Radiance The entire screen goes pitch black and he's revealed to be Nightmare King Grimm. Here unlike the previous battle there is no honor or mercy here it's just absolute brutality. Grimm is far faster hits harder and is more healthy so your in for a long battle. On top of that Grimm also changes up his tactics just enough to really test your might like. Summoning rows of bats above and below, his uppercut creates more flames, his dive kick creates a stream of fire, and he will no longer telegraph the spike attack. Aside from that though he also will hover in the air and create pillars of fire and of course there's his returning balloon attack at intervals. Not gonna lie this fight is hard like really hard and yet it feels like just such a rush when your dodging strings of attacks with pinpoint accuracy feels like a perfect dance even more so than the previous fight. Gameplay isn't the only thing that this fight has going for it though there also the intense atmosphere. From the Nightmare Heart in the background that as the fight goes on keeps changing. To the music which starts off intense showing that Grimm is not messing around. Just like the Heart though the track keeps changing getting a lot more chaotic with the chanting almost symbolizing the meaning of this battle and the many universe's. Its easily one of my favorite piece of music in the entire game with its insane amounts of variety and symbolic value fitting perfectly with this battle. After the battle though both Grimm and The Heart explode and your taken back to Hollow Nest with The Grimm Child fully grown. Unfortunately this insinuates that maybe killing Grimm and The Heart completed his ritual and he will be reborn again. Everything about Grimm and his boss battles is just absolutely perfection the build up atmosphere gameplay and music just complements these fights beautifully.
Ch 7 Sound That Fits. The Soundtrack. Christopher Larken has easily become one of my favorite Composers of all time due to how he just showcases the setting of this world perfectly. Every single one of his tracks matches the tone of the scene beautifully. Whether its atmospheric tracks like the area tracks, action packed tracks like many of the boss themes with a hint of Light Motifs, or even be able to capture a moment like with Sealed Vessel which is one of my favorite tracks of time just like this soundtrack.
Ch 8 The Conclusion. This game is honestly in my opinion a freaking Masterpiece and after several Hours three playhroughs one speedrun and nearly hundred and twelve percent completion. And can safely say that i love everything about this game from the. Amazing story that has incredible depth, to the phenomenal level design that has great variety, the addicting gameplay that keeps me coming back for more, the spectacular boss fights which are some of the best I've ever faced, and the perfect soundtrack which has some of my favorite tracks of all time. Everything is just so wrapped up perfectly in a nice little bow and shows the love and care that went into making this fantastic experience and I'm proud to say it's one of my favorite games of all time.

2024.05.04 14:01 FischlInsultsMePls Main scripture

My love for Fischl needs neither word nor statement, neither measurement nor proof, neither confirmation nor expression, neither reason nor logic, neither doubt nor uncertainty, for it is the truth, the self-evidenced truth, the make-believed fact, the initial-reasoned legitimacy, for it is becoming the cornerstone of my philosophical worldview, of my mental comprehension, of my reality perception.
Notwithstanding, I humbly and patiently long for a day beyond days, a time outside of history, a promised enlightenment, where concepts and meanings are born, barely worthy of retelling a fraction of her magnificence.
And I dream, vastly beautiful dreams, of calling her name, truly calling it, not this bastardization of that holiest concept through the limitations of a mortal tongue.
Many times, I would argue, perhaps this verbal weak imitation of her naming, along with that of her many titles, should be worth at least a sense of punishment, if not capital then that is retributive. But again, with greater reasoning, it is most likely the sheer guilt from that of self-realization of that insurmountable limitation surely must be tenfold more crushing than most sufferings of an external cause.
Thus, it should be from this realization that the most common deduction comes to any intellectual entity; that my affection for the Prinzessin remains far beyond any doubts and needs no confirmation. But should it be needed; it is certainly not above me to scream desperately her name (or rather my best attempt at pronouncing the unpronounceable) into the darkest of abyss and highest of heaven to proclaim this love to those ignorant of such.
And I would do it again, again and again until my blood runs cold, my tears go dry, my throat torn off, yet heart continues beating hotter still from sheer devotion. And it would not be simple repeats but rather iterative, that every syllable of my confession escaping this mouth shalt hold its unique space, for all my actions in her name and for her name unquestionably must be remembered and specialized, immortalized into key moments of my history and that of the larger world.
At this point, the only question that remains is that of the 'why', for the 'how' remains crystal clear and the 'when' and 'where' simply matter not. And let's me tell you why, why I adore Fischl so much.
That she is beautiful is a given. The same to say about her prettiness. And she is cute too, more than adorable. And elegant undoubtedly, she is. But even more than that, to assign these terms to one of her significances, is by itself an elevation of language as a whole. For when saying “Fischl is beautiful”, it says more about your definition of ‘beautiful’ than that nature of her Prinzessin. For never before could one know of a more descriptive expression of that word, that term. And to assume that this statement reaches the ear of someone unfamiliar with the word, yet aware of the person (for all shalt have known Her), and that before, they has never come across a single usage or definition of the word ‘beautiful’, this simple assignment of that term to the Prinzessin should tell more than enough what must be known of the word. For to tell “Fischl is beautiful” to someone lacking the knowledge of “beautiful” immediately reveals to them the understanding of such word, such term, and it is not unreasonable to assume immediately in their mind it comes around to accepting “Ah, so beautiful is to be perfect and attractive, to be made purely of goodness and all virtues, for that are what the Prinzessin holds, and for her to be beautiful, beautiful itself must mean at least one of these things”. And so, as a whole, one must beware of the challenges that lie within using adjectives in describing her Prinzessin, for more easily than not her existence itself may redefine your understanding of language. And for so it makes complete no sense to even argue that “she is ugly”, for this simply returns the fact you lack understanding of what ‘ugly’ truly means.
And even though unnecessary and completely insufficient, I can rant on too, about her beauty, of the golden flowing hair down the waist like a river of fine silk weaved by the masters of art; of the pair of illustrious emerald gemstones, shining, piercing, holding yet a deeper secret within; of the pale white skin from the freshest of snow, tendered to the touch, delicate even to the breeze; of the slender figure bearing a fragile physique, inducing to all minds, one deep sense of wanting to protect.
And I can tell you more about the clothing too, of the eye patch which hides her most sacred passage into a soul realm of riches; of the night-inspired dress adorning to perfection her feminine frame, and its playful tease into the excellence of carnality; of the uneven length high tights leaving just a glimpse of those milky white thighs protected beneath; of those pairs of high boots, of a grim color, of a predatory design, missioned purely for her walk across this land.
But that will only be the Dunkelnacht Sakrament to the series, there exists still the Ein Immernachtstraum to the total.
And with it a blood-red ruby replaces those innocent green, and a dark violet tiara now fittingly crowns her Royal Highness. And the outfit itself changes the tone, lighter purple and skillfully paired with the depth of blue. Like a cloak of elegance and charm now encapsulates her being and refuses to leave out a single hint of imperfection. The details layer itself, building upon the core theme of aristocracy. The accessories each compete for attention yet the harmony itself never truly breaks. A testimony to the limit of artistry. A fruitful product of mortal craftsmanship and divine inspiration. Another outfit to adorn her Prinzessin.
Her appearance alone is a gift to the world, a cure to the sick, a meal to the hunger, an angel to the faithful, a fatale to the heretic, a key to your problem, a question to your answer, the destination of your journey, an utmost brilliant beauty to ever be. But that alone does not make Fischl herself, her full self.
Next on we shall discover her charm, her grace, and her millennial rich soul. Fischl practices a love for the grand, with big words, big talks, she is to capture the mind. Legends weave myths, form together into fairy tales, retold through all fancy syllables leaping from her tongue. As if it were a different world, it is a different world, a world pure of imagination, a make-belief truer than reality. And when sanity is put to the question, no limitation remains far too great, no fate seems too far, and no stars are impossible to reach. And it is through those stories of magic and knights, of a palace more tempting than heaven, of a struggle against all hope, and a final triumph over all fear that her Highness resides upon a golden throne, adorned with a silver crown, ruling over all that is good and judging all who fall to evil. It is where dreams meet, fates intertwine, destinies merge and from there all an epic is born.
Fischl is like that, charming and brilliant, the main actress to a grand theatre, the underlying shade overshowing an entire novel. She is the noble songstress which breaks the silence of an era, the masterful writer who crafts worlds into existence through the might of a pen, the talented dancer who effortlessly attracts all eyes, because even if the spotlight was not there for her, she has already owned the entire opera.
Fischl is like that, so big and impressive, royalty in nature and divine breaths through her veins. Her steps walk legends, her gestures weave myths, her eyes shine new eons, immortalized to the most fundamental sense.
Fischl is like that, ever daring and already on the next adventure, already planning the death of another great beast and toppling of yet another evil kingdom. She would battle ancient sorcerers, with the same seriousness and, at the same time, nonchalance of running after a petty thief. Because justice burns bright in her heart and goodness guides her soul, truly the Princess of Condemnation.
Fischl is all of that, but all of that is not her, not her full.
Because underneath I see a gap, a fracture upon the perfection that is her visage, a hidden young girl beneath that magical Prinzessin, I see Amy too, where Fischl stands.
I see her relentless battles against worldly struggles, against the cruel twist of mortal tongues, against an utmost imposing predicament, against an all-consuming isolation.
I see her naïve dream of a world beyond good, a perfect reality where everything is just right, of somewhere she can be the best she can ever be.
I see her effort put into things most do consider useless, into things most would shun her for, into things she truly loves but for a long time never dares.
I see into it her growth, her talent outshines all peers, her mental maturity out-scales all others, her understanding reaches below fragile subtleties, and she truly comprehends the world, and see into it as a harsh and cruel place, of merciless trampling over childish dream and desire, of absolute predation over naivety.
But I see so clearly, a burning courage, a soul cast in bravery, a relentless struggle against cruelty. Because she never gives up, not once, not for a moment. She sees the world for what it truly is, says fuck it and wishes for a better world regardless. Her dreams mature but never lose their childlike hopefulness, her reality manifests truer yet ideal fantasy all the same. And she walks yet one step closer to being who she could be, who she needs to be, and most importantly wishes to be.
I see a girl living her dreams, and that is commendable.
Fischl is not solely the almighty Prinzessind der Verurteilung so revered in legends and myths, nor is she just Amy - a normal girl chasing after an ever-distant dream. Fischl is both, and therefore neither.
She is Amy living a Fischl dream.
She is Fischl personified through Amy.
She is the most ideal and perfect image for a young girl to ever be.
She is the utmost human and realistic version of a story character.
Fischl is interesting just like that, the more you know.
Then, let's understand further a large part of the becoming of her character, due in no small part to the Mighty Lord of Nachtraben, Ozvaldo Hrafnavins. This relationship between Fischl and Oz is rarely talked about, or if mentioned, only superficially. Their connection is an endless labyrinth, with all the twists and turns, yet the road ahead remains clear always. Each step forward, a building block laid down. Each true dead-end reveals new color. And in the end, a fortress, a palace, a monument, no matter their color or design, stands strong regardless for that is to be the bond they share.
Fischl and Oz have many dynamics:
Friends: Oz is Fischl's first friend, she got bullied and isolated as a child and Oz has been her first and only friend back then. Oz as a friend never leaves Fischl, they are always together and for so understand the other deeply.
Companions: This may sound like the friend part, but companions mean that they are a duo, they are irreplaceable to each other, and they are only fully themselves when together. There isn’t only a Fischl or an Oz, there is always, Fischl and Oz.
Master-Servant: The role-playing part is obvious, Fischl bestowed Oz a name from her favorite book (which she also names herself from) and they act out their roles. But more than that, Oz is a vision construct of Fischl, his existence, sentience, movement, speech, and action are all due to Fischl. Fischl rightfully holds the master position in this relationship, but at the same time, “A king is nothing without his people”, she is only the Master because Oz is the Servant, they are interconnected and inseparable.
Chunnibyou and the straight man: It is often played as a comedic relief or a running joke but Oz being the translator between Fischl and other characters is an important dynamic. From the 2.8 event, we all get to see just how perceptive Fischl is of the world, noticing every smallest detail. Then with her vast imagination, blows a wind of creativity and uniqueness into them all. Fischl paints a world full of colors and spectacles, but few understand. She feels the need to use flowery words because the world she sees is just that beautiful, and gorgeous as her speech flows, it strikes closer to reality than most dare to believe. Anyone who can understand and play along with such will be invited to her word of pure imagination. Oz explaining things, in a sense gatekeeps you from doing so. A lot of Oz translation makes some of Fischl meanings lost and put an emphasis on how eccentric she is. He does this out of a sense of necessity, not only for the world to partially understand Fischl’s intention but also to protect Fischl from inviting those unworthy of her personal world because if they can’t understand even her speeches, what good could they do to comprehend her imagination?
Chunnibyou and the evidence of their fantasy: Lastly, Oz is an irrefutable evidence of Fischl's power, of her fantasy, of her creation. The inner working of Oz is left unknown, yet he is the one single proof that Fischl can use to claim her fantasy. But she did no such things, and Oz supports no such things. They both understand very well the role they are playing, the beautiful dream-like world they are acting out They are content with it be that way, because Fischl doesn’t actually need to be a Prinzessin, she doesn’t need to have a kingdom to rule over, what she desires is friends, companions, respects, self-confidence, and inner strength: virtues that she may have not been able to find within herself because of self-loathing. Fischl understands very well the nature of her fantasy, but instead of trying to be real, to face reality, she goes a step further and pushes for genuineness instead, to live true to her feeling, to shape the world to her true desire. One may think growing up is to face reality and accept cruelty, but it is in Fischl to demonstrate a level of maturity unseen by many: to cross over the line of fantasy and realness, to stare at the horrible truth of the world directly, and still have the courage to strive for dreamlike goodness, to still live true to one’s wish. Oz, in that way, or rather, the lack of that role, allows Fischl to be Fischl, not Amy born Fischl in the Book nor Fischl reincarnates Amy in real life. Fischl is simply and irrefutably Fischl.
Finally, let's delve into something more physical and tangible, of her strength and weakness, for Genshin remains a game, and these things matter also.
To cite an internet intellectual (me):
“I can’t take it anymore! I’m sick of Fischl (not really)! I try to play Yae. My Fischl deals more damage. I try to play Raiden. My Fischl deals more damage. I want to play Aggravate. The best teams have Fischl. I want to play Cyno, Keqing, Yae, Raiden, Lisa, Dori, Razor. They all want Fischl. She grabs me by my throat (yes harder my Prinzessin). I pull on Standard and Ass Banners for her. I cook for her, mine for her, commit genocide for her. I give her R5 Stringless. She isn’t satisfied. I give her Aqua Simulacra, Polar Star, Skyward Harp, The First Great Magic. “Why the hell aren’t they R5” she insults me (uwu). “Gives me more field time” she demands. She grabs Nahida and makes the poor Archon throw herself against the enemies. She kidnaps Kazuha and makes him jump up and down like a Mario spinoff to debuff enemies. She seduces Bennett and takes all of his juicy buff for herself. She isn’t satisfied. “You just need to … forget it, I have no weakness, just give me 54.4 CV artifacts to deal more damage”. I don’t have any 54.4 CV artifacts, my luck is shit. She forces me to refresh resin, I can’t refresh resin, I don’t have enough primogems. She grabs my credit card. It declines. “Thou hath outlived thy usefulness, my final farewell to thee”. She summons Oz. She orders: “By Royal Decree”. I stare into the birb’s eyes. There’s nothing there. Nothing but pure, 50% of most Aggravate team damage, no icd, electro damage. What a cruel world (I prefer being choked).”
Fischl is fucking overpower.
Low field time, non-existent ER requirement, combo independent, snapshottable skill, highest electro application, a fuck lot of damage, insane particle generation, ridiculous flexibility.
Basically free damage, except this damage is a minimum 20% of your entire team, except she also batteries, and enables reactions. So it really is a top-tier support doing top-tier damage with zero maintenance cost and skill-less gameplay: Drop Oz, fuck the enemies up, repeat and profit.
Playing Fischl is like playing with cheat on, except the cheat is free, except people will pad you on the back for using it, and Mihoyo loves you now since they also think Fischl is best girl.
And it costs literally nothing to start, get her free from the shop, c0 already really good, c2 feels really nice, c3 really strong, c6 is literal ascension. Level her up normally, with that common flower already excess in your inventory, with the arrowheads you accidentally stock. Then talent up her skill, and only her skill (unless you are like me and based), because she literally only needs her skill, so that’s more resource you can save. And don’t worry about artifacts, 4pc Golden Troupe is obviously the best, 2pc 2pc of any random em/attack/DMG % also works, you can use Gilded Dream too, or Tenacity if addicted to buff; or you would rather throw on her any remaining scraps from building your main dps, since really she works with everything. Finally, for her weapons, since she only cares about stats, just throw everything into an Optimizer and mess around.
And Fischl is like the definition of future-proof, out of the 10 recently released characters, 8 already have top teams with her, 1 still at an Abyss clearing level, and only 1 without synergy. And Mihoyo seems keen on buffing her, either with new artifacts, weapons, or new teammates. And to cite again that internet intellectual:
“A mediocre character like Fischl obviously needs such a buff. They kinda did something in 1.6 and 2.1. The release of Dendro is a nice quality of life improvement but nowhere near enough, a step in the right direction though, have to give them that. Now this new artifact set may finally make Fischl competitive with super meta Dori and Dehya. Still looking forward to her next, very needed, very essential buff.”
And also don’t worry about finding her gameplay boring, since with how flexible she is, it is faster to name teams where she doesn’t synergize with than vice versa. She is basically a top 3, top 5 fourth spot for any non-cryo, non-Nilou team. Top 1 core choice for any team with an electro carry. Top 1, top 2 choices for any double electro variation. And practically irreplaceable in aggravate. So Fischl is like a really good answer to most questions, and a perfect answer to some, and basically the only answer to one.
For a new player, her high attack range and burst-independent gameplay are a godsend. While extremely cheap to build into lategame and compatible with most future archetypes.
For a midgame player, Fischl acts as your team core, her low maintenance in combat comes in extremely clutch, her stupidly efficient domain feels like cheating.
For an endgame player, Fischl is literally a carry, snapshottable skill means mega-buff-able skill with zero need for extra input. And her mechanics counter loads of annoying enemies.
For an ultra-endgame player, Fischl’s damage may feel a bit lacking now, but her particle generation and elemental application are still top tier. Elegy and Tenacity are always there if you feel like doing a buff. And no, fuck it, her damage isn’t any weaker in lategame, vertically scaling Fischl is real, don’t deny it, give her Aqua or Polar, add either a Bennet or C2 Nahida and she will do a fuckload of damage again.
So yeah, Fischl is fucking overpower.
That then will be the end of my analysis on the perfection that is Her Prinzessin.
Whether is real or not, regardless of the ending of this devotion, I will still propose to Fischl with 72 paragraphs of perfectly written, Shakespearean level sophistication, Immernachtreich common interest driven, Heaven Principles deceiving performance love letter.
She will either reject me, insult me with her own 14 paragraph of Shakespearean level slurs in a stereotypically aggressive German voice, hopefully step on me and I can finally off myself peacefully from a roof; or join in my quest of throwing hands against Celestia.
Anyway, as a Fischl-connoisseur, who is well-versed in the analysis and preaching of the Prinzessin’s character and appearance, with profound and extensive knowledge in the field of Fischlology, and decorated experience in online argumentative interactions, my source for everything I said thus now is that I made it the fuck up.
TLDR: Fisch is best girl.
Let end this essay with a short poem:
Upon each morn's awakening, I rise, From Immernachtreich-themed bed, I prize, Beside Her visage, perfection in my eyes, Whose magnificence, my dreams don’t lie.
I envision a meal, a princely feast, Spoon-fed by the Prinzessin, noblest, grandest, Her guiding hand, worlds to navigate, many seas, Without her presence, life's perils would not cease.
In lectures, I mimic, a foolish endeavor, To match Fischl's intellect, a pursuit I'll never, Her wisdom, a fortress, challenges to sever, In academia's halls, I strive to be clever.
At lunch, I imagine, in the cafeteria's crowd, Her Majesty with me, her praise spoken loud, Noticeable and eccentric, my devotion avowed, In her honor, my love, profound and proud.
After school, I stroll, thoughts on her, unswayed, Through three trees embraced, my path displayed, Two shady alleys, true, I may have strayed, Her Excellence's praise, my protection, unafraid.
Returning home, to my sanctum I fly, To the Immernachtreich bed, with a joyful cry, Beside Fischl, my wish, my spirits, soar high, In Genshin, I grind, for million moons, I'll comply.
Finally, I want Fischl to insult me with 14 paragraphs of Shakespearean level slur in a stereotypically aggressive German voice.

Is there a way of getting the special Monkey Villagers nowadays?
Back in the day, Nintendo would give away, in a special event, some furnitures (like the Mario series) and also some monkey villagers to the Wild World players via Tag Mode (Contact Mode in Europe). But Nintendo closed the DS WFC in 2014 and Tag Mode don't work anymore. That's what I'd say if Wiimmfi didn't existed, with Wiimmfi you can play online with other people and use Tag Mode. But still. These where special events that only happened a few times and not in any place, just like the Mew in Pokemon. But, to get these the furnitures and villagers, do we have to use cheat like in Pokemon? I've seen a video of guy who played Wild World and ended up getting a monkey villager, it was posted a few days ago and doesn't seem like he cheated to get the monkey. I'm so confused of how this happened. Is there still a way of getting them legitimately? And if it has, how? I would love to get Champ at my town.
