I'm looking to take my mom's side business of selling her oil paintings online, and wanted to get some feedback from other entrepreneurs.
Some background - my mom is a talented painter who has been selling her artwork locally for years through her personal Facebook and Instagram pages. She has separate accounts for her personal use and for showcasing her paintings, but all the posts/descriptions are currently in our local language. Customers can only get pricing information by directly messaging her - she does not publicly list prices for her paintings. After being contacted, she then coordinates payment and shipping the sold pieces.
While this approach has worked so far, I think we can streamline and potentially grow the business by launching an ecommerce website on a platform like Shopify. Some benefits I see are:
1) More professional online presence to showcase her artwork portfolio 2) Easier for customers to browse available paintings 3) Can expand beyond just our local market for sales 4) Translate/repost her existing social media content to English to reach wider audiences
However, I have a couple of concerns about making this transition:
1) Right now, there is a more personalized interaction when someone messages to purchase a painting. I'm worried publicly listing set prices on a website could make her art seem more commercialized and negatively impact the perceived value/exclusivity.
2) Expanding sales outside our home country could bring up some legal/regulatory hurdles around things like customs, taxes, insurance for shipping valuable items internationally etc.
I'd appreciate any advice from those who have gone through similar transitions, or insights into optimizing an ecommerce art business. Some specific questions:

• How can we maintain that personalized experience even with an online store?
• What potential challenges should we be aware of selling internationally?
• Prerequisites/marketing strategies for a successful art ecommerce business?
• Any better platforms than Shopify to consider?
• Tips for reposting/translating existing social media content to English?

I have been seeing a lot of MUAs including some big names in the industry on my instagram feed who use their mascara directly on clients with no disposable wands being used, even lipsticks and concealers straight from the tube. I wanted to know how to know if there is a way to sanitize the mascara after this because the original wand does give a better effect than disposables.

how come you changed it from tank top to vest? lots of americans confused by vest 😅
because I thought about someone actually saying the phrase ‘tank top’ with a British accent and it sounded so weird and awkward in my mind, ‘vest’ was the more realistic word (at least for people from my region of England lol). Sometimes things that are written in the comic would actually sound quite awkward and odd if the cast said them out loud, so I change them!

Not sure if you can answer this, and I could have a guess anyway, but is that trailer the complete moment or is the scene longer than that with more conversations that have been cut to make the trailer?
the scene is longer in the show, it had to be cut very short for the trailer!
was having tori's hair short from the get-go just for the sake of continuity or was there a.... deeper choice there..... i luv all the solitaire references in volume 4 sm so i'll take what i can get in the show hehe
so the thing about in-story haircuts in TV - they are a production nightmare. The show is filmed completely non-chronologically, so if Tori had long hair at the start, that would be a huge amount of extra work for the haimakeup department. It takes at least an hour to get an actor in or out of a wig. It just makes things very difficult and we always have an extremely hectic and tight schedule so we decided it’d be easier for her to just have short hair from the start!
I’m honestly so excited about s3. When you said that the ferris wheel scene was modified does that mean that the talk that Tori has with Charlie about her being asexual will that not be in s3?
yes that’s correct, I’m saving that story for S4 where I can build up to it much more effectively 🙏 you’ll see when you watch s3 that there just wasn’t the room to give that storyline the space it needs!

I knew it was a possibility but it wasn’t confirmed until very close to the shoot. I had to do some quite intense last minute rewrites 😅 but I’d already thought about what I’d do in that scenario so I was somewhat prepared!
The trailer was so lovely, it made my whole week! I love the brother-sister moments with Tori and Charlie; Joe and Jenny are so great together on screen. Will we get to see Tori and Nick interact more in this season?

difficult to say… there’s a fair bit of it for sure but maybe not as much as S2? Not sure tho!

Will the rating be higher? It is 12 usually but with season 3 being described with mature themes will it become a 15? Can't bwlieve we are in the season 3 era already!
I believe it depends on country and it’s not up to me, but the rating is likely to increase yes, mostly due to slightly more swearing, sex scenes, and mental health themes. I think it really edges the border between a 12 and a 15 in the UK so I’m really not sure how it’ll be rated!

Henry Maddox has been around for a couple of years now!! When Jonathan told us he wanted to be involved, me and Wren (who created Henry Maddox!) thought this would be the perfect role for him and a great opportunity for a more comedic sequence in the show (while also tying him into some of the themes of that specific ep… but now I’m getting too spoilery) ! (And obvs we had to change the name due to Henry the pug)
I'm curious about the scenes with Geoff. In the comics they're mostly mentioned instead of shown in detail. Will we get to see bits of Charlie's therapy sessions, or will they be shown in a sort of montage?

To make a long story short: I'm writing an original zombie apocalypse, and am looking for designs for the infected. Yep! And those are all super groovy! My newsletter is primarily a place for me to compile a curated list of things happening all over town, not just in the downtown spaces. There are small, DIY shows almost every day, and they generally don’t have a budget or the know how to promote themselves on platforms where you’re going to see. I’m pretty closely connected with a lot of the folks who organize these events (and have even helped organize many myself!) I occasionally include interviews with locals, newsy bits, and other things as they pop into my brain. For those who decided to have a court marriage before their wedding, do you regret it at all/feel like your wedding day didn’t feel as special because you were both already legally married? Or do you feel like it benefited you at all? Pros and cons?
My fiancé and I have been engaged since December 2022 and because of financial hardship, and the timing (we had a baby and had to move far away from home due to fiancés new job), we put our dream wedding on hold until January 10th, 2026. We’ve already picked out a venue, photographer, and makeup artist and paid the deposits for them so far.
I just feel like we are waiting so long for our special day for no reason…? We have already been together now for 6 years. The only thing keeping us from getting married right now is the financial aspect of it. And to be quite honest, the date we chose for the wedding doesn’t even resonate with us. The only reason we chose it was because it was cheaper for that day. I would prefer if we could get married on a date that is more meaningful to us. Also, maybe it’s just me but I can see it making the wedding day less stressful. There’s other reasons why we are considering marriage before our wedding, too such as for tax purposes, insurance, etc.
I’m just worried that the wedding day won’t feel as special/memorable because we will already be married. I know it’s all up to us and our own perspective and how we choose to view it. Maybe I’m just overthinking it.

So i work in the southern US as a designer in a predominantly black city for context. And i always find it so tiring to work with skinfolk because their ideas and concepts are so dated and tacky. On the other end of the spectrum I've had my run-in with the quirky white woman who turned out to be an undercover racist calling some of my more contemporary design "80s style" or "urban" so I definitely get there is a fine line and nuance but aint that i swear!
I'm currently applying to be a social media designer for an HBCU off of a word of mouth recommendation. They had me do a sample design (major red flag) but the job is 55k a year so i went for it. I think it was way more modern and eye grabbing than what they sent me. Think picture with a colored overlay a metallic textbox and stretched type. And i sent back a graphic that incorporated scaling, foreground, clear and relevant photography etc. What they sent back was another graphic asking me to do something more along the lines of that. Totally different from what they sent before and more along the lines of a pen and pixel album cover.
And i just want my people to be free from thinking that is the epitome of good contemporary design. Its "eye catching" sure but is that in a good way or just chaotic and headache inducing? Every time someone wants a flyer a logo ANYTHING from me they want big thick outlines, gaudy metallic type a mosh posh of over filtered and cluttering images. Its exhausting.
i know this type of design is apart of black culture but that doesnt mean there sint room for modernity and at the very least skill and technique to be applied for it to look right but the moment that happens its boring or "not contemporarily enough" which is laughable when you are basing your inspiration of off flyers from the 90s.
I dont know. I'm at the end of the rant and maybe its a testament to my capabilities that I'm not able to bridge the two and make it look good. I just want black folks to branch out and try some different more appropriate design style. not as in PG or conservative but literally what fits their brand not what they think they should be producing as an entity of color.
I can go on and on but i see it in schools, music artists, reunions, churches, everywhere. slowly realizing though my role as a designer isnt to design or make something look good, i just know how to work the software. it really makes you want to look in another profession though.

I apologize if this question is not allowed. I had an online music feed that I lost when I switched phones. I had stumbled across a woman blues singer and I really enjoyed her music, but I forgot her name or the name of any of her songs. One song was about a woman who suffered physical abuse so she would not go to a party, but did “ coverup with makeup” and go to her favorite bar. One other line I remember is “the bartender is my friend”. I have listened to so many great songs that I can’t say much more as I may have other artists confused with her.
I will be spending a great deal of time on the road in the Dakotas and I am trying to rebuild a good library of blues for the road.
