They shared a design lineage with the Commonwealth ships, but there were definite differences that became obvious as they assumed their positions next to the Commonwealth navy ships. She was particularly intrigued by the Xenxin ships, as they seemed to be bristling with weapons, almost excessively so relative to their ship sizes. The Eleani ships seemed to have taken a different design philosophy, and they gave the impression of deadly speed and grace, and she was hard-pressed to spot any obvious weapons on their hulls despite the AI confirming that the ships were indeed well-armed.
There was another coded signal from null space that appeared on the comm station panel, and her comm officer turned to her. “Vice-admiral, we have received a coded message on the sigma frequency for your eyes only that requires biometric and voice verification to decrypt.” Zhou nodded and pressed a button on her arm panel, activating the privacy screen around her chair and feeling the pressure change as the bridge around her became opaque and silent. She pressed the biometric toggle on the panel, and a retinal scanner popped out of its alcove on the side. She leaned in and scanned her right eye first, then her left. An icon appeared on the screen, and she thumbed it as it flashed and confirmed the print. Finally, she spoke and addressed the bridge AI: “Suzy, please confirm the voice command for verification.” The AI answered immediately. -Of course, Vice-Admiral Zhou, please proceed.- “Zhou, one-red-seven-green-four-tango-alpha-zero. Execute.” -Voice command verified. Thank you, Vice-Admiral Zhou.-
A small holographic display popped up in front of her; the admiral appeared on the screen, and his pre-recorded message started playing. “Mei, I know all this cloak and dagger stuff seems excessive, but we couldn’t take any chances. The receipt of this message will activate a program in your bridge AI and allow it to take control of the new drone ships waiting for you in null space. They are a new class of upgraded null ships and are top secret. Your AI will anchor them to your task force, and they will follow you, remaining hidden in null space unless you absolutely need them.”
“There are also two troopships with them that are carrying a complement of two thousand Mark XII ATS Bio-Synths and an expeditionary brigade each of rangers and pathfinders in stasis. They are also to remain in null space unless circumstances require that you need them; they are an insurance policy for an ongoing mission in Insectoid space. The details of that are top secret as well and can be accessed with your AI. If the troopships are required for that mission, they are to be escorted by a detachment of null ships and sent there immediately. After you have met your task force counterpart, there are orders in this packet that are to be accessed by you both and executed. I have the utmost faith in you, Mei, and I can’t wait to take you out to dinner again when we can both coordinate our next leave together. Thompson out.”
The hologram message disappeared, and she waited a little longer to allow the blush from his last sentence to fade from her cheeks and suppress the smile that was trying to form on her face before she put on her command mask and lowered the privacy screen. The bridge crew was going about their usual tasks, trying hard not to seem interested in her top-secret message. “Comms, open a channel to the task force flagship, please.” The comm officer acknowledged the order, and a few seconds later, the Bridge of the Commonwealth flagship appeared on the viewscreen.
A Nekuli male was sitting in the command chair, resplendent in the uniform favored by Nekuli officers. He took a moment to look around her bridge before settling his eyes on her. He bowed his head slowly in a gesture of respect, which she returned in proper fashion. The proper courtesies having been observed, he raised his eyes to meet with hers and started speaking. “Vice-Admiral Zhou. May the ancestors grant you and your clan honor and good fortune. I am deeply honored to meet you, and I hope our integration is a successful endeavor. I now entrust the honor of myself and my crew to your safekeeping.” He remained stone still as he awaited her reply, and she tried to remember the proper return greeting that she had been studying during their trip here.
“Commodore Therax, the honor is mine, and I promise you that I shall never ask you or your crew to undertake any action that will bring dishonor to your clans and your ancestors. We are now joined as one; may our cause be just and pure.” She finished the response, and the gravity of what she just promised to someone she had never met before hit her hard; it felt almost sacred to her. Commodore Therax heard her proper reply, and he stood up, followed by the rest of his bridge crew. He addressed her again. “Our honor has been given, and we have received a promise to safeguard it in return. Our joining is now consecrated in the eyes of the ancestors, and you are now our clan leader. What are your orders?
She recovered from the ordeal of the emotionally charged exchange of vows and stood up to give her first order as clan leader to the Nekuli. “I request the presence of you and your senior staff aboard my ship tonight. I will prepare a feast to honor our new friendship and alliance. I have studied your cuisine, and I have found a selection of Earth cuisine that should suit your taste. It is called tartare and sashimi; I think you will like it.” Commodore Therax looked at her dubiously, and she had to stifle a laugh at his expression as she knew that he was imagining being forced to eat vegetables and overcooked meat out of politeness. She spoke quickly to assuage his fears. “Commodore, tartare, and sashimi are raw red meat and fish; I would never inflict vegetables and burnt meat on you or your crew; are we not friends?”
As his translator finished converting her words into his language, he smiled at her, baring all of his fangs in true happiness.

I have started using LingoLooper in addition to my learning on Duolingo. I am pretty amazed with this app, it really provides the immersive experience of being able to have real chats in Italian.
Essentially it is using AI to have a conversation with you, converting your voice to text, running it through AI, and then put the AI response to voice. So you get the genuine feeling of being in conversation with a highly dynamic conversation partner.
It’s not so much a direct teaching tool, though you will pick things up, but as a conversation practice tool it’s the best I’ve found. Let me know what you think, IMO it deserves some publicity for doing something awesome for us language learners and hopefully someone else finds this helpful for their Italian journey.

Los Angeles County. Most of my experience is with tenants moving in for a one-year initial lease with language which lets the lease automatically convert to a month-to-month agreement (through the payment and acceptance of rent), with the tenants moving out whenever they leave the area and/or buy their own place. I mostly have inherited tenants with low rents from prior management and AB 1482, so local moves are rare unless people are buying a place.
Soon I expect to have a surprisingly large number of vacancies, most of which will require a substantial degree of remodeling and updating.
Two units...one a SFR and the other an apartment in a commercial-scale apartment building...are mostly in a re-rentable condition and only require new carpeting, paint, and a serious cleaning. I'd like to perhaps do a quick "freshening", rent them out for a year (and only a year) and then do a more substantial remodel in mid-late 2025 when my "renovation pipeline" isn't as substantial. The SFR remodel could potentially include conversion to a full duplex, so I don't want someone to live there for 5-10 years paying modest rent due to the aged interior.
For the house, it should be pretty simple. I'm eligible for a "non-corporate-owner SFR with declaration" exemption from AB 1482. Though IIRC that current exemption is in danger by the Justice for Renters proposition or some similar one.
But for the apartments, my understanding is that rent stabilization would apply, and just cause protections would apply after 12 months.
And I have a substantial cash cushion. I'm not about to go out of business anytime soon or anything without the rental income. It just seems wasteful to have a place sit empty when it's habitable but I won't be able to get to thoroughly remodeling it for a while. So how easy is it, legally, to limit a tenancy to strictly one year in LA County?

Introduction
While “No Man’s Land” is considered a desert frontier by most, it has been the home of a native population for centuries: The neksut nomads. The neksut travel from oasis to oasis, riding horses and herding sheep and other animals. Though some Neksut have fearsome reputations as warriors, the neksut way of life is under threat from foreign settlers, most of whom see the as unsophisticated.
Recreation
Though outsiders will confidently claim the neksut have no arts to speak of (or even no culture at all), in truth the desert riders have rich musical and storytelling traditions. The neksut are great lovers of song, specializing in throaty chants. Singing is often heard while the tribe is on horseback or around the camp at night, and is typically collaborative, with a lead singer being echoed by several others. The most famous songs are epic historical and mythical tales, such as The Stone Men, Ballad of the Besieger, and Death of Pulcros. Musical instruments include string and woodwind devices, carved from wood and richly decorated.
However perhaps the greatest neksut art is quicksmithing itself. Manipulating quicksteel is vital to the nomads’ way of life, allowing them to effortlessly convert carts into temporary dwellings and back again. But with excess metal, neksut quicksmiths (called shapers in their language) often create temporary sculptures that will be deconstructed when the tribe moves on. Such sculptures are very abstract, often embodying the mood or state of the tribe at the time of construction. To the neksut, the impermanence of this art represents the transient nature of their way of life and of life itself.
Food
The neksut diet is heavily dictated by their nomadic lifestyle, and is fittingly dominated by the products of domesticated animals, principally horses and sheep. Milk is the most important element, and is drank as well as made into cheese, yogurt, or a dry powder. These dairy products are paired with meat from either domestic sheep or from hunted jackalopes or roastritches. Contrary to popular belief, the neksut do not eat their horses, save in rare cases when an animal dies or is too old to keep up with the tribe. Such animals are far too valuable as mounts and sources of milk to be consumed, and in fact an idiom meaning “eating one’s horse” is a neksut expression for one who has not thought things through.
Vegetables and spices (save for salt) are relatively scarce in much of the central desert and thus are scarce in the neksut diet as well. However the nomads make great use of what ingredients they have in a wide variety of dairy and meat meals. Seasoned jackalope jerky with cheese, shredded mutton over yogurt, and roastritch stew are typical. These meals are supplemented with redleaf, roastritch eggs, and whatever foreign ingredients can be traded for. While their cuisine is typically somewhat plain on account of their transient nature, the neksut can put on impressive feasts for special occasions, such as weddings or celebrations. In these cases the traditional meal is the so-called “yogurt table,” in which each participant is given a bowl of yogurt to pair with dozens of small dishes which are passed amongst the tribe.
Gender and Marriage
The neksut are relatively egalitarian in terms of gender. Two reasons for this may be due to their heavy reliance on horses and quicksmithing for their way of life; Mares are actually far superior mounts to stallions (due to their smaller size and milk), and the necessity for quicksmithing to set up camps and carts means that female quicksmiths cannot be disregarded, as all hands are needed. Thus neksut women can be warriors, chieftains, and shamans, with Salaris the Sandstorm and Mist-Eyes being prominent examples. However outside of these important roles, their still is a gendered division of labor in most tribes. Neksut often marry outside the tribe, with young men and women being sent to other tribes as dictated by shamans.
Government
Neksut governance is divided between chieftains and shamans. Chieftains lead tribes from one oasis to another, ultimately ending their journey at a religious site. Shamans oversee religious sites and help select the next route taken by the passing tribes, coordinating movements between different tribes so that resources are given time to replenish. The balance of power between these two roles has varied over time, though currently shamans seemingly hold the dominant role. Shamans serve an important logistical purpose in organizing the travels of tribes and arranging marriages, but they also act as culture repositories, with the shared language, history, and customs of the neksut likely owing to the shamans’ influence. Thus the Neksut are considered one culture and not a dozen.
Religion
Though their mythology purports to explain the origins of humanity, the first mentions of the neksut in the historical record dates to the aftermath of the Great Dying. Some scholars have suggested that the neksut might share common ancestry with some of the people of Tolmika, noting common elements between neksut religion and the Faith of the Heeders.
Neksut religion is centered around the earth and the sky. According to their mythology, the desert was originally a paradise that was the birthplace of the first humans, the Stone Men, who were the children of the earth and the sky. These children crafted a vast civilization from the abundant resources, living like gods for centuries. But over time they forgot their place, abusing the land and ignoring the sky. Eventually, the parents punished their offspring; The earth sent forth earthquakes and eruptions, while the sky whipped up duststorms and withheld the rain. The paradise transformed into the great desert, and most of the children died or fled, leaving their civilization to crumble. But one child, “Neksut”, remained and resolved to repent by living off the land even in these harsh conditions, slaying his fellow stone men. The neksut trace their origins to this figure. They see their own lifestyle as a continuation of that repentance, and view other civilizations as a recreation of their ancestor’s mistakes.

It’s time for a, non-annoying approach to helping users use software — an approach that follows the golden rule: “Give our users an experience we’d like to have”.

The folks at CommandBar believe to actually help users, you need to put their interests first. Hence, user assistance.
To define what that looks like, imagine a human user assistant whose helps users use software — a kind of software butler. The assistant sits behind the user (without breathing down their neck), watching them use the product. Here’s what the user assistant would do:

• Listen to the user's intent
• Intervene at the right moments
• Adjust to every user

They built a suite of products that follow this model of user assistance, and they take 3 forms:

The second part of their product is called nudge. Visually, these look like popups (gasp 😱). And some of them are, we admit, popups in geometry. But the key difference between a nudge and a popup is that nudges are personalized and obey by guardrails to ensure they are not annoying.

I know people can work a relationship with religious differences, but idk what I should do.
Me and mygirlfriend (19&18, wlw) had known each other and been very close friends for three years, and recently found out we both have feelings for each other, so we started dating. She is very important to me not only as a girlfriend, but a as a best friend and a big part of my support system.
I don't believe in God and am against religion and the church. Would appreciate voices from people with similar perspective :)
My girfriend recently started to get more into religion, I thought of it as nothing bad, and as long as it doesnt affect our relationship its her thing. But it keeps developing, she went to confess to the priest which really shocked me, I thought she was joking. I told her its hard for me to accept, and she said "If you break up with me over my relationship with God we cant even be friends anymore" I know she really cares about me to, so this must be very important to her and I've decided that it's on me to accept it. But then during a discussion she said that she wants to baptize her children. (this is a hipothesis, we dont plan having children for a long long time) (and we cant in our country) I said I am strongly against this and will advocate for freedom of choice always. All of this came out of nowhere, and idk if we can make it work. She said she will never try to convert me and doesnt care if im an atheist. So the problem is on my end. Does anyone have any advice/experience with this?

I have been struggling to build the Windows 11 image on VMware, some help would be greatly appreciated.
I was able to configure HCL/Packer when it comes to VMware configuration (mostly I hope).
At the moment, Windows 11 gets provisioned until the moment that system boots with the Windows OS screen, and then it hangs, I believe that WinRM is not properly started via the XML answer file. I can confirm that answer file works because Windows settings for the setup are processed and Windows installation finishes.
Also, I could not use the floppy drive, since its not supported with UEFI and TPM, so I am mapping the VMware tools from the datastore, and will include in the answer file the part to install the tools - my doubt is, is the WinRM even started if the Packer can't connect with the IP?
I am having trouble to understand how to troubleshoot the answer file, its really cumbersome.
My packer console says waiting for the IP.
Any suggestions are very welcome, thanksss!

That is because English is not my native language. So, moving on to what matters.. <br /> Lately i was getting wins and feeling pretty comfortable playing on emperor difficulty, so i decided to challenge myself and move to Immortal difficulty. To add some spice, i also decided to try a cultural game, something that i have never done before, but after reading a few posts from wikis and reddit community, i thought i had enough knowledge to succeed.<br /> To accomplish this mission I chose Brazil. My plan was to go tradition an settle 4 cities. Game setting were pangea, standard speed.<br /> Early game was not hard but also not that easy. Polynesia was my closest neighbor and i could feel that we were racing for that first expansion between our capitals. It was after a few turns that my warrior spotted Kamehameha's settlers and i had no other option to declare war and steal them (they became workers, for some reason I thought they would also convert to settlers and that was my first learning). After a few more turns I managed to get my own settlers out and found there my first expansion, São Paulo. From there to the mid-game things were pretty standard, managed to make peace with Kamehameha and really focused on establishing my 2 other cities (Salvador and Brasilia), growing and managing to keep my empire happy in the meanwhile.<br /> It was in the middle game that things got really interesting for me and, looking back at it, don't even know how i actually managed everything. It just felt that i was behind in every aspect of the game.<br /> First i met the other civs: Mongolia, Spain, Portugal and America.<br /> My first big mistake was my pantheon. I chose Sacred Path (+1 culture from jungles). In my head it made sense since i was Brazil and jungle was my starting bias. The thing is, i was generating so little faith that my religion got purposeless. Spain was converting all my cities and there was nothing i could do about it. Oh I shoulda chose Desert Folklore... São Paulo and Brasilia had lots of desert tiles and I really felt for that. Just to clear this up, later in the game i managed to get a Great Prophet out and, since Spain forgot about me, I managed to re-convert my cities and that was all the religion i got in this game.<br /> I also noticed that Portugal was too going for a cultural victory. They were so strong culturally and military with 10+ world wonders that i was almost hopeless (luckly we were "friends"). I had no other choice if not to snowball, and snowball hard. They also managed to get Chicken Itza before me. Damn you, Portugal! Luckly i saw that none of them went for Petra, so I did, and managed to built it in São Paulo. Spoilers: Petra is truly OP, São Paulo became a monster of a city. <br /> Mongolia got obliterated by Spain, poor Genghis Khan got no place in this game, he hang the rest of the game with 1 city and nothing else. No gold, no luxuries. What a shame, was nice trading my excess sugar for his truffles.<br /> America was nice to me, made a solid friendship throughout the game, lots of trades, research agreements, until the late game, when he decided, for no reason, to backstab and denounce me. I really dont know why he did that, we were such good friends George!! Well maybe it was karma. After all, I was constantly thinking about how to overthrown Portugal and Maria's huge empire.<br /> It was also in the mid game that i found a piece of land that was unexplored by the other civs and it had potential for 2 unique luxuries that i didnt had, so i went for it and found my 5th city, Fortaleza. Fortaleza didn't contribute that much in the game but was a nice addition overall, plus it kept other civs to founding cities there.<br /> Another thing i did was rushing Archeology and getting those archeologists out asap, gathering first the artifacts that were outside of my empire boundaries.<br /> Now mid to end game i had a relatively solid empire with a plan. I had saved all my Great Scientists, Artists and Musicians. Managed to dodge wars by paying other civs to war the ones that seemed a threat to me and really focused on my tourism and culture output. First thing i did after building Research Labs and after waiting a few turns I popped those scientists to get to The Internet and get my tourism escalating.<br /> There was also the Pracinhas, Brazil unique unit. Oh the pracinhas, for me they were somewhat of a letdown and felt that they came a bit late to the game. By the time I've researched the technology and had a decent army of them, I've naturally entered a golden age. From there on i was just popping those great artists to keep my golden age going and never got the chance to utilize them.<br /> Now my second major mistake were great musicians. I was working on them since the beginning and didn't knew that the amount of the tourism that they can generate carries over from the age they were generated. So, in comparison, my latest generated musician could do a concert for 7k+ tourism and two of my first musicians could do about 100. Next time, invest in musicians later in the game. Noted.<br /> From this point on I was trying to ally city-estates and boy was that hard, even in the CS's that i had spies since the beginning i was struggling to maintain. The AI was constantly coupling them, so i had to invest a few policies in patronage, donate gold, making quests, and somewhat that worked. Since i only got a hold at them in the mid to end game, i could not manage to take my ideology (Freedom) to the World Congress, but made two World's Fair resolutions through, also arts funding, cultural heritages and historical landmarks. <br /> In the middle of all this I discovered that caravans to other civs really helps on the tourism output!<br /> Finally, with the bonus from arts funding, carnival, caravans a few wonders and a decent amount of culture output i managed to surpass Portugal and became victorious! Boy did that felt good!<br /> Anyways, this post was definitely not supposed to get this long. I guess sometimes things get out of control lol. And if you managed to get here, big thanks, I really appreciate your time to read though all of this, I surely had a blast. <br /> I'll try to get a few screenshots and post here.
