My Rides For The Weekly Challenges

2024.03.15 01:50 Odd_Supermarket4492 An update
2024.01.11 12:07 IBuyCars2023 How I made $53k flipping vehicles in 2023.
Background: I've been buying, fixing, and selling vehicles privately since I was in high school, my family was never a "car" family, so I started off with very little knowledge and experience relying heavily on forums (RIP) and early, early youtube to learn everything. Since then (10+ years ago) my knowledge, work area, and tool box has expanded greatly.
Using my throwaway due to tax purposes, call be manic but there is some mild concern there.
Most cars I do not title in my own name, I live in a state where no notary is required to transfer vehicle titles so I "jump" them to the next owner. I do not pay taxes/registration on these vehicles which lowers my over head even more.
All cars come with bill of sale, AS-IS no warranty. Cars are almost always purchased with a "atleast $1000" profit margin. I have only been burned on one vehicle so far. Operate soley in cash transactions.
Some cars require work, the best ones do not, some cars sell better than others.
Inventory is hard to find, constant marketplace addiction. Word of mouth plays a role in this as well.
There are also long breaks I take, I have a 9-5 which generates more than enough household income, the car flip money usually stays in a seperate bucket and is used as an extra/emergency fund and also pays for the fun cars.
Vehicle Flip History for 2023:
2013 Fiat 500 Abarth: $3500+800->$6250(Shifter linkage, not round wheels, brakes, general maintence.) Profit= $1950
2016 Ford Fiesta ST: $6000 -> $9000, (No effort flip, it was spectacular and a really fun car. I'll own another) Profit = $3000
2011 Chevy Cruze: $1000 -> $3250, (new battery and an interior detail) $2250
2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee $1500+1000 ->$8000, (this SUV needed front bumper cover, front air suspsension leak fixed, brake booster, and more im not mentioning. I had easily 10-15 hours into this vehicle. Profit = $5500
1988 Honda CRX SI, B series swap $1500 ->$5500 (Pure luck car, driving down the road and the guy was just putting a for sale sign on it, rust free and a charging issue. one ground strap later it's charging properly.) Profit = $4000
1971 Datsun 240Z $1000->$2200, (Rusty, more than I could realistically fix, needed full resto and then some. No effort flip ) Profit = $1200
1975 Porsche 911 Targa $6000 ->$13,000 (Very lucky on this car, purchased with no drive train and rusty floors, zero labor just flipped. just happened to "know the guy") Profit = $7,000
2013 F150, ecoboost SCLB $4000+100 -> $6500 (Needed a tail gate, found a junkyard one in the same color.) profit = $2400
2002(?) Astro Cargo Van $2250 -> $4000 (was a run around company car, full maintenance record and only had 24k on the odometer, blew my mind. No effort flip)Profit $1750
2008 Chevy Malibu $600 ->$1500 (no effort flip) Profit = $900
2006 Ford Fusion $1000 -> $ 1900 (no effort flip) profit = $900

2008 GMC Sierra, $3000 -> $4950(no effort flip) Profit = $1950
2010 VW CC, $1100 ->$2500 (No effort flip other than some bulbs) profit = $1400
1982 Porsche 924 Turbo $700 -> $2000 (got it cranking, no start. sat for along time. could have made more if it fired over) Profit =$1300
2010 Ford Expedition $700+250 -> $2800 (detail, side mirror, headlight assembly) Profit= $1850
2007 Honda Accord (manual) $2000 ->$3900 (No effort flip, manual helped sale imo) profit $1900
2008 BMW 535XI,$2000 Traded for 2004 530i, got "had", it happens.
2004 530i, $2000. Broken even after a LOT of work... ouch.
2010 Buick LaCrosse, $900+$100 -> $4250 (Needed VVT solenoids, detail) Profit = $3250
2006 Duramax 2500HD Silverado $5000->$9000 (no effort flip) Profit =$4000
2010 Silverado LTZ $1000->$2000, (stole the tires/wheels off this for our other vehicle, purchased with bad transmission, sold with bad transmission) Profit $1000 + wheels
2012 Ford Escape $1500->$2800 (No effort flip) Profit = $1300
2011 Subaru STI Hatchback, $7000+$4000 ->$15,000+Forester (had to put an engine in this one, was hoping to love it, i didn't.) Profit =$4,000 + Forester
2002 Subaru Forester, Profit $3250 (No effort flip)
2008 Dodge Caliber, $500 -> $3200. (Needed clean up, sat for years so new oil, coolant, brake fluid. 32 walnuts in engine bay, some wiring repaired) Profit = $2700.

2021.06.24 10:27 ViktorVaughn71 Can't decide between OG M2 or a highly modded 135i, thoughts?
After a very long car hunt, I decided to look for an OG M2 LCI but now having some doubts and considering another route...I'm finding N55 135i's in good shape in the upper teens + $13k-$15k should be enough to set it up the way I want (Recaros, coilovers, M3 suspension conversion, lighter wheels, upgraded brakes, LSD, FMIC, exhaust, tune, etc). My brother owns an automotive service shop; any of the labor he can perform will be free. Lets call it $35k all said and done. This will leave me with ~$15k to purchase a 2nd vehicle with an open top experience which would most likely be a 500 Abarth cabrio. I have lived in Cali for 30+ years and have never owned a convertible/targa. After a couple recent experiences in a Vette/targa and a Wrangler with the top off, I have realized I am missing out on an amazing automotive experience.
An LCI M2 with low miles, some factory warranty left, M PE, + Recaros (I'm on the taller side and the factory seat is too high) will set me back ~$55k.
The 135i has only 2 advantages over an M2: it's lighter and has better steering communication (hydraulic) otherwise I prefer the M2 in every other aspect. I have test driven a number of M2's and rented one for a few days, I know what to expect and what it's like to live with it as a daily. However, my seat time in E87's is very limited. I have found a few for sale locally that I plan to test drive in the coming week.
I don't care about lap times, how fast it goes in a straight line or any performance aspects measured in numbers. All I care about is having a highly visceral driving experience that puts a smile on my face and has exceptional steering feel.
What say you? Convice me to go with an M2.

2021.06.24 06:46 MyToesHugEachOther Pay high repair cost or trade in for negative equity (upside)?
Appreciate any advice:
Is it better to pay a high mechanic repair cost with a personal loan or trade the vehicle in for something else, but be upside-down on payments (adding negative equity to total sale)?
My Fiat 500 Abarth (5-speed, ~60K miles) will need a full engine replacement after something happened to one of the pistons. 2x mechanics have said it would be over $5K (labor + engine). I still owe ~$8K on the car and originally paid about $13K. Paying the mechanic fee would be more than the car was worth originally (with the remainder of the debt). This is the only major fault I've had with the vehicle.
We do not have on hand the roughly $5400 to pay the mechanic outright (we recently drained our savings to buy a house), so we'd probably have to get a personal loan to pay it in total. I don't think the mechanic will take payments. I will need a second car within the next several month, so I cannot wait to save for the money over time.
We can trade the car in (potentially) to a dealership and be upside down on a car payment, as an alternative option, but I've heard this is not a good thing to do. Is it better to just stick with the original car and a personal loan (if granted) or try for a new one, but have a greater overall debt?

2017.08.23 01:08 eighty_sixed_86 GT350 Roadtrip: 1 week, 9 states, 4400miles. Lengthy post, pics included.
TLDR: It was a lengthy but short roadtrip. You're welcome.
Ain't got no time for readin and stuff? I got you:
https://imgur.com/a/TuZ1B States visited: OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, CO, UT, AZ, NV
Notable locations: Glacier National Park, Pike's Peak, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Zion National Park, Shelby Museum/Factory/Store
I left San Francisco on Saturday 8/12 at 5:30AM. Returned Saturday 8/19 at 11:45PM. Following are the notes I took on the trip and recollections after. I hope you enjoy. I certainly did.
Northern California: Nothing notable, I live here. Took 80 East to 505 North, later merging into 5 North. Met two guys with built-out BRZs in Suisun Valley; they were headed to a meet. Cars were tastefully modded and I favored the burnt orange and black wing combo car. Didn't talk long, but the burnt orange guy wanted to know if I was "driving the ecoboost?" Nah, this isn't the ecoboost. Those are good cars, though, and I envy the MPG.
Oregon: Fast-forwarding to the land of "thou shalt not pump your own gas." Really weird but whatever, Oregon has the most beautiful semi-populated back country I've seen. Didn't find any technical driving roads but the long straights and gentle sweepers were nice. Fantastic ranches you guys have, btw, wow. When the sun hits the golden fields as you're blasting by and the horses look up ya think, huh. I can dig this. P.S. your speed limits are terrible, not updated since 1912 or some such.
Washington: Ah, crossing the border with that feeling of anticipation, the wonder of sights unseen, the joy of... 2 KA bands and 1 laser hit. WTF Washington, nice welcome wagon you got there. But you're not done, no sir or ma'am. Pasco, WA, aka interchange city. So. Many. KA. Bands. And. 2. Laser. Hits. I get it, you need the revenue. But not from me. Motored along merrily on 90NE/E to Spokane, crossing into Idaho.
Idaho: Coeur d'Alene. Wow. Amazing roads; long sweepers in the mountains, gentle and lengthy elevation changes and fantastic scenery. You win, Idaho.
Montana: I'm on the way to Glacier National Park. 3 things of note in this state:
1 - "Keep Right Except to Pass." I've seen posts about this on
Cars and never really "got it", but now I do. Montananians have this down to a science and it works. Granted the population is sparse but its a model of managing traffic flow and speed. Consider me a full-time convert.
2 - I pulled in to a rest stop on Highway 2; it was 11:30 at night and the area poorly lit. A family was setting up a giant tent on the grass; it was just them, me and a semi parked in the lot. Blacked out the car windows (sunscreen and blankets) and made myself cozy. 3AM and I'm suddenly awake, its time to visit the facilities and take care of urgent business. As I approach the men's room I hear a noise, it's a loud buzzing and a man's booming voice. Montana rest stops have speakers playing the weather report ("The weather in Big Fork was clear, and the wind was..."). This speaker was blown due to the loud volume setting. Creepy at 3AM, moreso with dim fluorescent lighting. Good news though: Bathroom is clean and I've got my choice of two stalls. I take the luxury stall aka the doublewide aka the handicapped version. Oh. Lock is broken. NP, I switch to the economy stall and run down the checklist. Door locks, check. Floor and seat clean, check. Enough TP to build an assnest on the seat, check. We're locked and loaded and I'm going in, Cap'n. Except for one thing: The lone bit of graffiti on the door. It read: "8/11. Let's %$# or at least piss on me. Tap foot." Imagine its 3AM and you're groggy with so few hours of sleep and that's me, mouth slightly open, brow furrowed with squinty eyes trying to comprehend this lonely missive of love and bodily fluids. First thought: Is it the 11th? No, ok good. Second: I'm the only one in here. Third: I no longer have the urge to do anything but GTFO; the creepy factor went from 3/10 to 10/10. Not that it mattered to the disembodied man's distorted voice; he continued belting out the weather report as I left a contrail of relief denied.
3 - Glacier National Park. My first must-see destination and it was so worth it. Lovely, narrow roads albeit packed with appliance cars. On the West Glacier Road there's a spot to park and take a shuttle bus up. Not for me but it's a popular thing. Some tourists get bored waiting and attempt to hitchhike; as I rounded a curve I saw a hitchhiker sorta gently shove his (I presume) SO away and say loudly in his Brit accent, "I know what I'm about!" Hey brother. You're ok hitchhiking in a park, but don't do that anywhere else. Unless you like the song Goodbye Horses in which case have at it. Anyway, GNP: Pictures can't convey it well, nor can they convey the batshit crazy old lady driving a minty green Fiat ... Fiat uh, not the Abarth but the lower spec model. Old lady, her Fiat and personal GNP Formula 1. Like everyone else she'd pull over for pics, but when I saw her coming I got out of the way.
Wyoming: Plains. Plains as far as the eye can fall asleep.. I kid. Beautiful state, really. Pulled over and listened to a thunderstorm slowly roar across the open land. Amazing, spiritual, awe-inspiring. Congrats, Wyomingians. All 3 of you.
Colorado: Colorado is amazing, and as a California native I'm genetically predisposed to moving there. But don't worry, Coloradorians.. eh, Coloradori, F it, lets just go with Pot Smoking REI Junkies and Rednecks. As I was saying, I won't move there, ever. Not me. Nuh uh. Well. Not unless I get bored, or ... wait. Wait a second. Huh. Zillow says I can buy how many bedrooms, with how big a garage and a backyard that's spacious in a good neighborhood for how much? Hmmmm.
Pike's Peak. You've heard about it. If you've not gone, go. Don't expect a Hill Climb though, the usual appliance cars and Lifted Lambos (trucks) clog the roads - although I did get lucky in spots, and did a Matt Farah a few times by making a gap on the straights. 14k elevation, no big deal, I've done that before in Ladakh (India, Himalaya foothills). Think again, that 14k kicked my ass. Just taking pictures of the car was wearing me out. While at the summit some lady hiked down (apparently there's a trail) and needed rescue, she simply could not climb up. I believe it.
Great Sand Dunes National Park. Yep. It's sandy. The approach road (well outside of the park) is minimal to no traffic, you can go 10 mins without seeing a car. I may or may not have done a triple. Or as I call it, 25 MPH in Mexican school zone. Because I'd never do that in the US. Not me.
Small towns. We all know its common for small towns to be speed traps. Colorado small towns take it to the next level. Its dark, I'm in BFE, and 1-2-3 small towns in a row: K Band, X Band, KA Band, no apparent falses. In one case the local popo followed me about 3 miles out of town. My very first police escort, I'm so proud.
Montrose, CO. I'm a coffee nerd so this trip has been mostly hell. The hell of McD's coffee or worse, gas station coffee. Swill. So what makes Montrose, CO, special? La Zona Colona Coffee off Highway 550. You're going to pass it when heading to Silverton, so stop. Clean outside and in, tastefully done decor and, crucially, outstanding coffee with what seems to be an extra dose of caffeine. I suspect this because it wasn't long before I was road raging pretty hard, I mean come on. LANE CAMPERS RADKJEKEJREKJFDKJ gargle scream do nothing but wait to pass. Yep. Road raging. Best coffee I've ever had.
Silverton,CO. Quaint, preserved old-timey Western town. They even have a steam train and stagecoach, actual ones that move along and make old-timey choo choo noises and whatever sounds horses make. Popular place.
Highway 550 to Durango. Rounded a curve and a blond guy with man bun waved me down. He and his GF were stuck, older Toyota with a dead battery and as it turns out, bad alternator. I had a battery charger but no cables (ugh) so he plugged it to the battery and we waited. I suggested waving down a truck as those guys must have cables. Cars go by, no one stops or acknowledges his waving. Weird; he's young, good looking and dressed in Mountain Chic - I mean, he's not scary looking and its full daylight. Finally a red F150 stops, older guy with cables. He's a little sauced, not drunk but he's had a few. Engine turns over and I follow the Toyota couple a while, and it dies again. This happened 4x til we made it to the guy's house in Durango. On the last pullover the red F150 guy shows up again. "I wanna see how fast this Shelby can go," he says, slightly slurred, "It's ok, I party with the cops in Durango." This was just not gonna happen, Durango's not a little town with deserted roads and I didn't see any signs for open track night. I politely ignored him and we got the Toyota couple home, wished them luck and off I went.
Utah: I dunno, it's Utah. Mostly impressed with the people vs. the places, although those are nice too.
Four Corners. Not sure what I expected, maybe something grand to commemorate 4 state borders, maybe some good dining and driving roads. Nope. You get a short dusty road (fine, its the arid desert), a $5 entry fee, signs saying cremated remains cannot be spread here (huh, who, why?), vendors selling Navajo-themed jewelry and stuff and that thing. That thing set in concrete marking the celebration of 4 state borders meeting. I was done before I got there and was walking back to the car when I saw her. No, not the love of my life. Rather a woman wearing an awesome tshirt which just then struck me as hilarious. Pic taken. Nice lady, she was a riot. She liked the GT350 too.
Zion National Park. 105 degrees. Two European guys driving below the speed limit in a rental Focus. I get it, you're here to see the sights. But uh, pull over. Thanks bye.
Kanab: Nothing notable here other than I stayed in the Quality Inn's "suite." But there was one cool encounter at the local car wash (I detail my car religiously): Mr. Walker with his 1965 Thunderbird. OMG. Maroon paint, black leather interior, dusty engine. Overall excellent shape (driving condition, not concours) and he's the second owner with all maintenance records from new. Mr. Walker liked the Shelby and had a lot of questions; I had just as many for him. He showed his car and apologized for being unable to wipe down the front and rear chrome due to his age. Not a problem, yours truly wiped it down for him and it was a pleasure doing so. What a car. Tip of the cap to you, sir.
Nevada AKA Las Vegas: Stopped to visit the Shelby Factory, Museum and Shop. The shop is the first thing you see once inside and lemme tell ya. Need a Shelby leather coat? They got you, Holmes. Socks, tshirts, bottle opener, model car, hat, travel mug, earrings, key chain? No problemo. I made a dad joke (tm, not an actual dad) after buying some shirts: So uh, you guys have everything, literally everything for sale, don't you? Sales lady: (thinking FFS not this again): Yes, we do. Me: Great, I'm in the market for a new fridge. Sales lady: Points to her left and there it is, a I-kid-you-not-Shelby-branded-fridge. Joke's on me; abort abort mission failure RTB.
Walked outside and there was an Aussie family sorta standing by my car. The dad went on about how much they liked it, and a US friend of his was considering buying one. Told him to tell his friend, yep, buy it.
... And that's pretty much it. Went to SoCal but there's 2 kinds of SoCal: coastal (nice) and inland desert (less nice). At Barstow I couldn't take it anymore, GTA got crappy desert towns right. Connnected to 5 North and pulled over for gas: $3.89 for premium, the good ole welcome home price. Drove 6 hours north to SF, woke up the GF and flopped right into bed. Best parts about coming home: GF reunion, Game of Thrones and 7 hours detailing the car. Still haven't got all the bug bits off the grille.
Random stats:
23.1 MPG
Cheapest gas / Premium: $2.48 (Wyoming, Ethanol blend)
Oil consumption: 2 quarts
Breakdowns and flats: 0
Truck Stop Hookers Observed: 2
Drunk Drivers Observed: 1
Accidents seen (after the fact): 3
Road rage battles seen: 1 (SoCal. Of course)

2016.07.31 18:42 coret3x Look What The Cat Hacked In - Summer Special 2016 - E01
Stream:
YouTube AssettoCorsa.net thread Some notes - A lot of work has been put into improving FPS. CPU and PHY stats explained.
Update:
Screenshot of updated reflections - Marco: There will be 3 Porsche packs. A total of 24 cars! Kunos has so many Porsches to make now that they will
- 60's Silverstone for free before end of year
- new laser scanned track (possibly by end of year) that was very high up in poll. (not Lemans)
- Another 10 car dlc pack by end of year
- Ferrari FXXK, 488 GTB, Praga S1 dlc (should be very cheap, but not free) alongside 1.8 at end of August
- BMW m6 GT3, Audi R8 GT3, toyota LMP1 - early next year
- Kunos has hired a new developer that has started working on Assetto Corsa Pro (specialiced simulators for Porsche museums etc I guess). Stefano says that he would not like his company to be large with a lot of developers. (Personal note: ID Software had the same strategy.)
- Stefano thinks that all GT3 cars will be bumped to tire version 10 in 1.8
More updates: X-posting this from
ShredatorFIN:
Summary I made... might be missing something, hopefully I heard everything right (?)
QUESTIONS FROM LAST STREAM Q: Vulkan or DX12, for new engine in the future? (AC2 or whatever)
A: Stefano would experiment what is most comfortable / best. In the last 10 years DirectX has been better. Early version of AC actually had OpenGL
Q: How damage model works in AC? Would be nice to affect more open wheelers VS street car
A: Open wheelers are already easier to damage at supsensions. Bodywork, only effect is aerodynamic. Simple damage model
Q: How mods are selected to be official content? Most accurate physics VS. most popular mods?
A: Generally speaking they just use the 3D model and do physics & sounds from scratch. So only 3D model matters to them
Q: Possible to change clutch linearity?
A: Stefano did that to the code. Aris reworked all the clutches, for every car. Making them less powerful. Easier to start, car a bit more stable when downshifting. Coming in 1.8 if I understood correctly
Q: AI question, Exos isn't able to pass Abarth
A: Stefano wrote some code for AI to understand when car is other class, to know to pass it. But some code was left from 1.7 that will be added.
Q: Other historical tracks coming?
A: Classic version of Silvestone is coming, not in 1.8 but in 2016, for free.
Q: No AI in practice?
A: Doesn't know if very necessary, but could be maybe added to launcher
Q: Why AI is not coasting in corners, but brakes mid*corner annoyingly?
A: It's not just AC, pretty much all racing games. Problem is how AI thinks in 1 and 0. If it's too fast to make the corner, it taps the brake. To make AI analyze if it needs to coast or brake, would need complicated algorithm that would hurt performance. Maybe he will find solution, but at the moment, have to live with this
Q: Steering reaction lag for AI, to avoid "super grip" when you hit them?
A: It's been tested, but now turned off because AI wobbled around the track like lunatic, it looked ridiculous. Even when it switched back to normal algorithm, the AI couldn't realign the car Stefano made tests now with taking AI's stability control randomly off, so it slides into corners sometimes, similar to braking mistake. Was able to make AI even spin Unsure if it will be in 1.8, caused some probems, where AI wrecks his car & blocks the track. But looks promising Also, if you hit AI now his SC goes off momentarily. More natural reaction when hitting AI. If beta test goes well, might be released
Q: Selling cars 1 by 1, instead of DLC packs
A: Originally AC was going to be Free
toplay, and cars sold 1 by 1. But current approach Stefano thinks is better, the packs have something for everyone, and you can discover cars, that you didn't initially see as interesting. Like someone getting RP for modern F1, but then finding Maserati 250f nice car, which he wouldn't have considered
IMPROVEMENTS in 1.8 - Improved reflections. On the car borders they were messed, and Stefano fixed the shader and smoother now
- Big FPS improvement, but still getting Beta feedback, if the improvement is universal and just not for Stefanos PC
- Better shadows. Car interiors in replays, and in track walls shadows more stable. Depends highly on sun position, but generally better looking
- Lot of techincal talk. CPU is being more efficient and helps GPU render faster.
STILL TO-DO STUFF FOR 1.8 - Trying to work on Blue Flag, punishment for not respecting it. At least in MP
- Finishin the race on right lap. When you are 1 lap behind
- All GT3 cars will most likely be in Tyre model 10
QUESTIONS FROM CHAT: Q: Revisiting damage & colision modeling?
A: At this stage, not gonna happen
Q: Spectator mode in MP?
A: Yes, but it's complex thing and he wants it done properly in one go, big work
Q: Rev lights on Fanatec wheel?
A: Fanatec requires to have some libraries into the game, which cause problem. Something to do with Visual Studio 2013 vs. 2015
Q: Vive support?
A: Nothing yet
Q: Marco is in the chat and asks if rain coming to AC :D
A: No sorry, no rain Marco Massarutto
Q: Question about something without post processing
A: AC is designed to be used with PP. If you choose not to, you can, but good luck with that
Q: Cross platform MP?
A: No.
Q: Rolling starts?
A: Most likely no. They've tried to brainstorm about it, but it's making their head explode. SP easier, MP less
Q: Custom championships for 1.8?
A: Stefano hopes so. He is not the person working on it
Q: More staff?
A: Kunos has 1 new guy, who just started to work on AC Pro, but will be working on normal AC too. More staff needs more management. Stefano don't want that
MARCO MASSARUTTO JOINS I didn't hear all of it since low volume & stronger italian accent (I'm not native speaker) than Stefano. But here what I could be (somewhat) sure of:
MAIN THINGS (for me) - New track coming in 2016. Will be one of most asked tracks. Hoping to make announcement soon. Will not be Le Mans
- Next DLC (August 26th) * Ferrari FXX K, Ferrari 488 GTB, Praga R1, Audi. This will NOT be free but very cheap
- There will be 24 Porsches, divided into 3 DLC packs not 2
- Porsche DLC volume 1 in September
- 3 Porsches will be free bonus cars
- Season Pass coming = All DLC Porsches with 1 purchase, very good price. Not sure if will work with Steam, to be confirmed
GENERAL LICENSING & OTHER TALK - Kunos was 5 people and budget was 70 000 € when they started. Now development costs are at 3 million euro
- In the beginning getting licences was hard, because unknown company
- Now manufacturers contact Kunos. Including Porsche.. Porsche has partnership with Kunos, not just license.
- Track licensing is tricky, very hard to catch with them and finalize deal. Most tracks don't have proper licensing department.
- Did they say "No" to a manufacturer? They had to, to Maserati before 2016. Kunos didn't have time until now
- Also a new well*known manufacturer contacted them recently, but they need to get on queue, because too many cars in production already
- No expectations for console sales, too busy to worry about. Will obviously affect future
- How to be programmer? Have to be skilled in C++, and to be independent (work without being told to work) Stefano joins to answers this
MARCO ON CARS - Porsche are fans of AC. They give lot of data. Better co*operation than ever before
- 24 Porsche cars incoming (not 20) + more than 10 other cars in development. All the new manufacturers will have to wait next year
- Old porsches, winner of 2015/2016 Lemans, new lineup 911, Cayman, Boxter, Panarema etc. All electronics modeled
- P1 GTR confirmed, after Porsches. Maybe end of 2016 or January 2017
- GT86 GT4? In queue. Candidate for next non*Porsche packs
- Koenigsegg stopped to answer emails. But same with happened with Alfa Romeo 3 times and took them 18 months to get, so it's about person they were in contact with changing jobs. Doesn't mean "no"
- Alfa Romeo Giulia? Some plans. Not confirmed, depends on Alfa Romeo
- Alfa Romeo Stradale Tipo 53 also in (low) development
- Cup cars? Audi TT 15 Cup in schedule, also Porsche Clubsport GT4, Porsche Carrera Cup
- Maserati MC12 GT1 already in development
- LMP cars? Yes. Audi R8 2014, Toyota TS040 and Porsche 2015/16
- BMW M6 GT3 will come in beginning of 2017
- New Lotus 3*Eleven in development
- Audi R8 LMS 16. In development, in January 2017 probably
- Aston Martini? Been in touch last year, but didn't find a good agreement
- Peugeot is not coming into AC, at least into AC1
- Full series is not an option for DLC, too expensive, revenues won't cover the expenses
- Bentley? Marco doesn't see it happening
- WTCC cars, don't see it's an option coming
- Recent F1 cars? You just got some
- No Subaru, not scheduled. Same for Lancia (?)
- No plans for Bugatti, doesn't seem likely to see it in AC1
MARCO ON TRACKS - New track in Europe? Doesn't know, couple of options but not sure yet which
- Suzuka. Marco tried hard for agreement, but way too expensive. After Nordschleife Marco's favourite track
- Kunos rents laser scanners. They progress all the time, like smartphones, getting their own not good investment
- AC doesn't have real tracks with fake names, and they don't want to start now
- Modeling laser scanned open road track? Huge work. It's always development costs VS. revenues. Open road doesn't seem worth it
- Portimão could be good option. But much less known, and there is always the marketing standpoint
- Black Cat County was asked by Maserati and Porsche. Kunos got good feedback about it, so another fictional track will likely happen. Maybe Tuscany, Italy or Scotland
- Other tracks like Zandvoort (non*scanned)? Outside of fictional, likely no
- Sebring is not an option

2013.06.27 06:27 pburgh Help Me Decide On a Car Ver. 1,524,921
First post to this subforum, hopefully I'm not in the completely wrong area for this discussion.
So here we go...
I've had a 2004 Volvo S60R for the past year. Reliability and repair costs aside its a rather good car. Its quick, smooth, sounds Group B Rally-esq with an exhaust, has a fantastic stereo, and the best seats by cheeks have ever laid upon.
Unfortunately after averaging out the repair costs (the majority have been DIY) its costing me $400 a month in upkeep. Thats the payment on a very nice new car.
A few examples of what this car has thrown at me:
- 4C struts and associated hardware (strut mounts, spring seats, etc...) $1600 in parts,
- Coil Packs $250,
- PCV System $400 in parts,
- Wheel Bearing,
- E-brake rebuild,
- Variable valve timing solenoid,
- Power steering pump
The list goes on and on and I'm sick of it. The car has been up for sale for a few weeks now and I'm shopping for a new or lightly used car.
Keep in mind I'm 25 and have a highly modified 1996 Miata that I auto-x and drive when the weather is nice so ultimate sportiness isn't the utmost requirement in the next car. I'm sick of constantly tinkering with my DD and drive around 20k a year so fuel economy is higher on the list.
Requirements:
- Hatchback or Wagon
- Manual
- Good fuel economy
- Under 22k OTD before considering any money that might be put down
I get supplier pricing on GM, Ford, ChrysleFiat, BMW, and Mazda but all that means is you jump straight to invoice and try to negotiate from there.
What I've looked at so far
Mazda 3 Wagon Sky Activ, 6spd manual
Pros:
- Great driving experience overall
- Perfect clutch, communicative shifter, eager engine, sharp steering
- Well dampened and sporty feel
- Tons of space
- Seats offer nice blend of comfort/bolstering
- Best price (invoice - $1500 between rebates + 0% financing)
Cons:
- TERRIBLE infotainment technology. I knew this going in but its likely a deal breaker.
Ford Focus SE 5spd Hatch (22k invoice - 3250 rebates)
Pros:
- Very solid feeling chassis
- Nicely tuned suspension. Good balance of sporty and comfort
- Punchy engine
- Options list looks good on paper
- Nice seat bolsters
- Best looking IMO
Cons:
- Sync system frustrating to use
- Terrible stereo (would have to be upgraded)
- Meh infotainment system w/o My Ford Touch
- Hard as rock seats despite good bolstering
Chevy Sonic RS 6spd Manual ($20,298 invoice - $500 rebate)
Pros:
- Strong low end torque from the small turbo
- Phenomenal infotainment system. Seamlessly links with my phone and seems like the system belongs in a much more expensive car
- Interior is by far the best trimmed
- Most flexible engine (thank you broad torque band)
- Best warranty
Cons:
- Seats feel kind of flat
- Somewhat juvenile looks
- Most expensive
- Suspension feels soft
- Shifter feels like its connected to the transmission with rubber bands
I'm wondering if a lightly used car might be a better bet although its hard to find one that isn't absurdly close to the price of a new car. There are some used car bargains out there right now such as a Fiat 500 Abarth which can be had for less than 20k but the ChrysleFiat longevity concerns me nor am I sold on the bar stool seating position of a 500 (as much as I love the Abarth on paper).
My roommate also has a Honda fit which I've driven quite a bit. Its a fantastic car but the driver seat doesn't go back far enough to give me ample leg room. Instant deal killer.
Any other recommendations, Reddit?
