2024.05.14 01:59 ForkShoeSpoon A Complete Guide to Maximizing M-Stats and Beating the Ocean City Boardwalk Games (without Shadow Taint)
Quick and Dirty: So long as you get Pep Talk by completing the first four dream quests, AND install Ye Olde Chemicker on Plunkett Street, you can get 15/15/15 on day 6 and beat the Ocean City Boardwalk games (Dream Cat not required). The rough outline: You get +2/+2/+2 from Ocean City perks and Charlestown State Pen perks, +1/+1/+1 from any number of hat and pants combos, +1/+1/+1 from the Monster Club sash, +1/+1/+1 from a Noble Elixir from Ye Olde Chemicker, +1/+1/+1 from the devil's food cake (throw a hot link down the H***hole), +1/+1/+1 from your choice of liquor and your bonus from the electrified orb, +1/+1/+1 from your Pep Talk perk and choice of cat, +1 to Moxie from a new set of teeth, +1 to Muscle from Chiropractic, +1 to mysticality from the statue of you, +1/+1/+1 from losing and getting Angry, Contemplative, and Aloof effects.
Beating the Ocean City Boardwalk games requires a minimum of
15/15/15 Mus/Mys/Mox stats. This is missable--it is possible to lock yourself out of being able to achieve such high stats. However, there are multiple ways to get your M-stats this high, meaning even if you miss one route to 15/15/15, another is likely still open. I wanted to make a quick guide about not only how to purely maximize stats, but the different options available to get yourself to 15/15/15.
Always Possible Stat Boosts
On any save file, 13/13/13 should be achievable. Here's how:
Those, which I assume most folks who made it through chapter 1 know about, bring you to 6/6/6. Potions, alcohol, and food will also easily net you +1, +1, +2 to your choice of stats (you can get higher boosts from food and potions, but they are unique and/or missable), bringing you to around 7/8/7. Then:
- +1/+1/+1 from wearing the completed Monster Club sash accessory (complete all Monster Shack quests). To my knowledge, it is impossible to lock yourself out of this quest.
- +1 Moxie from the "Perfect Teeth" perk (the dentist at the Maize Maze in Gray County)
- +1/+1/+1 from giving prisoners Chiropractor gift certificates (Charlestown State Pen in Government Valley)
- +1 Muscle from the "Well Adjusted" effect using the same gift certificate for yourself
This brings us to 10/10/10. To get to 13/13/13:
So, this will get you to +13/+13/+13 fairly hassle free. But that still leaves us 6 points shy of victory. Thankfully, there are myriad ways to reach that final number (and beyond)
Bridging the final +6 gap
All of the following is content you can lock yourself out of, sometimes pretty easily, sometimes pretty early in the game. The good news is, there are so many options, it's likely
a path to 15/15/15 still exists on your save file unless you've reached the very late game and aren't lucky.
Dreams
You can get an additional +4 from Dream-related events.
- The Dream Cat from the Prologue grants +1/+1/+1, for an additional +2 M-stats compared with the other M-stat cats. They are very missable, and you can permanently lose their boon if you pet another cat on Chapter 6, as you will not go to sleep again.
- You must complete quests in your first four dreams to get the perk Pep talk, granting +1 to 2 of your 3 M-stats. You choose the M-stats by picking which statue to silence in Yet Another Fitful Dream.
Clothing
- The giant maggot hat, which comes from helping the miners and NOT working with Frogger at Haim Quarry, gives +1/+1/+1 for an additional +1 M-stat.
- Weathered Jeans can be bought from Advanced Pants on Day 4 if you choose it as an additional shop on Plunkett street. It grants +1 Muscle and +1 Moxie, and is the only pair of pants to provide +1 to more than 1 M-stat, for an additional +1 overall. You will only install 5 of the 9 possible stores on Plunkett street during a playthrough, making it easy to miss this shop.
This makes for a maximal
+2 from better clothes.
Food
There are a number of food options to grant more than +1 to your M-stats, granting a maximal additional
+2 to your M-stats overall.
- Any food starting with H can be thrown in The H***hole in Gray County to make devil's food cake, for +1/+1/+1. Of particular interest are hot links, which can be crafted at arcane ovens from the infinitely abundant phlogistic resin. This is always available in any save file, but easily missed.
- The Dauphin House) in The Big Moist contains a Can of Fruit Cocktail for +1/+1/+1. This item is unique.
- Fruit Advertisements can be gotten from Junk Mail once you've gotten the letter opener on day 6. They give +1/+1/+1 when eaten.
- Fish sandwiches can be bought from Fission Chips or The Underground Restaurant) for +1 to 2 M-stats of your choice (suboptimal, but available starting day 3)
- Finally, picking Botany as a major opens up 2 interesting options for an additional (suboptimal) +1 to your M-stats: You can make a questionable salad at Professor Kalos' Holiday Home which grants +1 to Muscle and Mysticality when eaten, AND you can wander at S.I.T. with Barker to find Odd Fruit for +1 to Muscle and Moxie.
Potions
Potion options are comparatively limited, but can grant an additional +2.
- The Noble Exlixir (+1/+1/+1) will be sold at Ye Olde Chemicker if you install it on Plunkett Street, but ONLY on day 6. You will only install 5 of the 9 possible stores on Plunkett street during a playthrough, making it easy to miss this shop.
- If you take the Chemicals major at S.I.T., you can get Professor Adams as a companion. Talking to him at Ye Olde Chemicker will give you 3 of Professor Adams' special potions for +1/+1/+1. This can only be done once, but can get you +1/+1/+1 potions before day 6.
- Without Ye Olde Chemicker, you can find radium rouge at the Dauphin House in The Big Moist for +1 to Mysticality and Moxie (suboptimal). This item is unique.
Other
There are a couple unique effects that you can use which will last 1 day only
- At The Old Junkyard at Crystaldream lake, there's a tub you can soak in for +1/+1/+1 for the rest of the day. This is a one day only effect; you can only soak once and will not be able to soak any other day. Optimal to soak on day 6.
- Similarly, in Gray County, you can encounter a blob of crude oil surrounded by electrified shale spires. If you choose the option "Harness the Lightning [7 Mysticality] you get +1 Mysticality from the Fossil Fueled effect for the rest of the day. This option can only be chosen once; the event can occur many times, but once you choose to harness lightning, it will never happen again (optimal to do so on day 6).
- Finally, the exploit: You can get +3/+3/+3 if you choose spiders as an elective at S.I.T. I don't recommend it, but it's there.
Bonus Guide to Liquors
-Tequila grants +1 to Muscle and Mysticality and can be found in the
Mob Submarine in The Big Moist, but only if you accept the Mob's offer on day 2. - Whiskey grants +1 to Muscle and Moxie and can be found in the
Moonshiner's Cave in The Big Moist. - Absinthe grants +1 to Mysticality and Moxie and is found in
Rufus' Lab) at S.I.T.
Shoutout to this previous post by u/Mr_Lisreal, which already covers most of what's in this post. My motivation behind making this was primarily that the wiki does not do a good job of displaying potion effects in a browsable way, and it wasn't clear to me if it was possible to completely box yourself out of being able to complete the boardwalk games (to my eye it appears possible, but uncommon). I also wanted a guide out there for freaks like me who enjoy petting cats, and therefore don't want to lean on the dream cat boon because it deprives you of the joy of petting all the other cats in the game.

Can anyone who has taken this class tell me: are the readings necessary for the multiple choice tests? Some of them are really long and idk if I'm safe just skimming them as each quiz is worth 15%.

2024.05.14 01:36 Fun_Key_ButtLovin Is there a term for someone between fwb and gf/bf? (F/35, M/37)
I '35F' ended a 9 year relationship in late January. We had been in bad sorts for a few years, and I have been processing and bracing for the inevitable end for a couple years. Once we finally split I felt free, ready to explore the world and all the men out there.
On the day before the eclipse (April 7) I was bailed on by 2 separate men for dates and went on Tinder to hate swipe lol. Well, I ended up matching with my high school crush '37M'. He messaged me almost instantly and we hit it off. Save one weekend, we have met up every Saturday since and the chemistry is incredible. This guy is really cool. What's been cooler is that during our dates he would say something about how he feels - like "it's so crazy that, poof, here we are right in front of each other and it's just... so insane" or something that is in line with thoughts I've had to myself about him. To me, I get the impression we are on the same page.
We finally had a "Netflix and chill" night over the weekend. It was incredible, better than I could've imagined. It almost made it worse, my feelings just went nuts. He went kinda quiet after all the fun too. I think we both got in our heads.
Now, to my question: I like this guy. I like the light in him and what he brings out in me. The BUT on both sides are, for him, he has a lot going on. My being able to see him once a week is a miracle, the guy is spread thin. My but, I don't want a bf. I don't want the obligation of meeting family, birthdays, commitment past making the choice to spend my free time with this person and when we're together we make the most of it. BUT I also dont want to date around/have multiple partners and would prefer if he didn't either.
Is what I want possible? Is there a name for it? How can I say to this guy, "I choose you, and want to keep choosing you, and I hope you choose me, but I don't want to add anymore obligations to our plates"? This feels way more than a friends with benefits thing but I'm in no rush to make anything official. I'm just trying to enforce boundaries and my one big one is being monogamous; for those of you wondering why I didn't address it beforehand, I was absolutely convinced there wasn't going to be great bedroom chemistry. Instead it was the opposite and now I don't know how to tell him "let's keep doing this regularly but don't make me meet your mom"?
Help! Lol.
TLDR: I want to see this new guy regularly but I don't want the commitment of being an official girlfriend. How do I say that to this guy? Is there a term for this relationship, something between fwb and gf/bf??

2024.05.14 01:36 Minimum_Count9758 Solo Sword Bardadin Build - Supreme Martial All Arounder
NOTE: This guide contains a ton of gear and narrative spoilers Most Sword Bard builds are either focused on either ranged or control + melee/AoE attack styles, and I wanted to explore whether or not it would be possible to take the best of both to make the ultimate martial all around build. This build features Sharpshooter with ranged damage of 20-30 per arrow and GWM + smite damage of 60-120 per single hit by the end game.
Background Theme
The theme for the build is a resisting dark urge, with a desire for redemption to become the champion of Baldurs's Gate. And this theme weaves through the playthrough with items and choices along the journey, for example:
- Getting branded by Priestess Gut and getting Loviatar's Love in at the Goblin Camp
- Saving the Nightsong (and Shadowheart) and forgoing the Spear of the Evening
- Becoming partial illithid in a quest for power
- In a moment of weakness, falling prey to the powers of Bhaal by becoming an Unholy Assassin at the Murder Tribunal, only to later realize that Sarevok and the tribunal must die.
- And finally rejecting Bhaal and giving up the dark urge powers.
Build Overview
The build centers around a combination of Bard and Paladin,
with all three feats, for a Level 8 Sword Bard / Level 4 Oath of Vengeance Paladin. Feats are Shapshooter, Great Weapons Master and Tavern Brawler centered around Nyrulna for throwing + smite melee and the Titanstring bow for ranged giving absolute martial authority under almost all circumstances.
In addition to the primary martial strength, you gain the jack of all trades benefits of being a Bard, including exceptional social skills, relatively high charisma, good persuasion, deception, sleight of hand and stealth.
Early game, expect to play like any other dexterity/charisma bard, with the first 6 level progression on Bard alone.
- Focus on ranged fighting style, with enough stealth to dip in and out of battles solo, particularly against large groups like the Goblin Camp, in the Creche and the Gnolls
- Use flourishes, both ranged and melee to hit multiple targets in one round.
- Dual wielding hand crossbows early game.
By the end of Act 1, and with the acquisition of
the Gloves of Dexterity in Creche Y'llek,a respec is needed to maximize the benefits of the Titanstring and the build plays like a ranged beast through all of the mid-game.
After level 6 of Bard, we begin to level into Paladin, which opens the door for the character to start building up melee power. Truth be told, I may have respec'ed a few times between levels 6-10 trying a few things on for size, but the most effective strategy mid-game was:
- Titanstring with Sharpshooter and Gloves of Dexterity for ranged flourishes and multiple Bard attacks that came online at level 6.
- Dual wield shortswords like Knife of the Undermountain King for smites (starting at level 8 - SSB 6/Pal 2) and melee flourishes.
By Act 3 and the late game, and with the acquisition of
Nyrulna from the Djinni at the Circus of the Last Days in Rivington, the martial melee power took center stage, with ranged flourishes still very powerful, but no longer the primary attack strategy. And by level 12 and the end game, you have the choice between throwing Nyrulna for AoE or Slashing Flourish for specific ranged attacks.
Philosophically, the build is focused on fast nova damage to overwhelm a larger group by decimating them in the first 2 turns. High movement is key, we're always looking to surprise enemies, and taking advantage of stealth and invisibility to duck in and out of battle for the occasional "oh shit" moment or recharge of bardic inspiration.
Leveling Guide & Feats
As noted earlier, this build really doesn't come online until level 6, more so at level 8+. Prior to that, you're just an average ranged or melee bard, your choice. The end game goal is
Level 8 College of Swords Bard / Level 4 Oath of Vengeance (or Oathbreaker) Paladin.
Race choices include Wood Elf, High Elf, Duegar Dwarf, Half Orc, Gnome or Halfling.
I've always opted for one of the elves, primary because of movement speed. The fighting style that has evolved for me throughout multiple solo runs now is that you are often fighting in retreat, and movement is key to manage this. If you're playing this as part of a party, movement is less important.
Levels 1-6 - Bard - Start at level 1 as a Bard with STR 8, DEX 17, CON 14, INT 8, WIS 10, CHA 16, and you should expect to respec at least once. Select Minor Illusion and Friends for Cantrips if doing a solo run, with a strong case to also be made for Mage Hand. If not for a solo, you have other options here. Longstrider is a key spell as well. For skills, optimize Persuasion (or Deception), Sleight of Hand, Stealth, and Performance, in that order. I chose Persuasion, Sleight of Hand and Stealth.
- At level 3, choose College of Swords. For spells, consider Invisibility, Cloud of Daggers (for some vital early AOE on a solo run), and Hold Person. You can also swap an existing spell slot here to get two of those three. Choose Two-Weapon Fighting for fighting style.
- At level 4, choose Sharpshooter for your first feat.
I recommend a respec as soon as you are able to purchase the Gloves of Dexterity, which for me happens usually around level 4 or 5 somewhere. When you do, choose STR 17, DEX 8, CON 14, INT 8, WIS 10, CHA 16.
Levels 7-8 - Paladin - At level 7, start with your first Paladin level. I chose Oath of Vengenance.
- At level 8, choose either Defense or Great Weapon Fighting as your fighting style. At this point in the game, I was playing with dual wielded shortswords with Knife of the Undermountain King as primary, but you could also play with Halberd of Vigilance, Mourning Frost or some other two handed weapon. Melee is less important still at this point, since we chose Sharpshooter as our first feat and primary fighting style. This is really about your secondary melee damage dealing, so whatever you prefer for the mid-game.
Levels 9-10 - Bard We're really just marching towards that second feat here. Choose whatever you want for spells, I like Freedom of Movement, Greater Invisibility, Fear, Hypnotize. For this build, spells are tertiary to ranged and melee damage, so the focus should be on enhancements and prep spells for battle, not in battle casting against enemies.
- At level 10, level 8 bard, grab the Great Weapons Master feat. By this time in the game, we have picked up Nyrulna and have a lot of spell slots for smites. This is where the melee part of this build really shines and starts to outpace the already amazing ranged archer. NOTE: If you chose Defense at level 8, respec to choose Great Weapon Fighting.
Levels 11-12 - Paladin Again, we're marching to our third feat but you can pick up some great Paladin support and control spells like Command, Bless, Protection from Good and Evil, and additional smites.
- At level 12, level 4 Paladin, get the Tavern Brawler feat and put your ability point in Constitution (kid of doesn't matter, I'll explain in a bit). I thought about getting Savage Attacker here for maximizing crits on smites, or even an ASI into Strength, but ultimately wanted the flexibility of using Nyrulna as a solid throwing option and I'm glad I did. I might go back and try the other two options at some point.
Gear Guide
Not extensive, but I'll list out the important items I picked up and used along the way, but place an asterisk by absolutely essential items
Early Act 1 - Ring of Protection* - Worn pretty much the entire game, best ring in the game IMO (don't @ me)
- Titanstring Bow* - the build revolves around this bow
- Doom Hammer* - Absolutely essential for any solo of Myrkul to prevent healing from Reaper's Reward ability.
- Amulet of Misty Step
- Gloves of Archery
- Crusher's Ring
- Haste Helm
Late Act 1 - Gloves of Dexterity* - Essential to the build, worn throughout the game since the build was based on dumping DEX in the spec.
- DeathStalker's Mantle* - Durge item only, essential to the build to go invisible after a kill.
- Boots of Speed* - Worn pretty much throughout the game, I almost feel are essential for a solo run. These are top 3 items for me all game for any solo run.
- Periapt of Wound Closure* - Essential for me mid-game to have healing potions max heal. I wore throughout act 2.
- Club of Hill Giant Strength - This was essential before Gloves of Dex purchase
- Disintegrating Night Walkers
- Knife of the Undermountain King
- Mourning Frost
- Unseen Menace
- Caustic Band
Act 2 - Risky Ring* - I wore this most of the game as well, with some situational exceptions
- Cloak of Protection* - This was swapped out situationally with the Deathstalker's Mantle throughout the game, really the only two cloaks I used.
- Darkfire Shortbow - used situationally for fire/cold resistance
- Killer's Sweetheart
- Helmet of Arcane Acuity - used surprisingly little, but had to mention
Act 3 - Nyrulna* - Essential to the build, couldn't do this one without it unless you went full evil and did Shar's Spear of the Evening, but that goes against the theme here.
- Bhaalist Armor* - Essential to the build to get the smite damage maximized from Nyrulna.
- Sarevok's Horned Helmet*
- Helm of the Balduran*
- Amulet of Greater Health*
- Band of Mystic Scoundrel - used surprisingly little, but had to mention
End Game items - Sarevok's Helm
- Bhaalist Armor
- Cloak of Protection
- Boots of Speed
- Gloves of Dexterity
- Ring of Protection
- Risky Ring
- Amulet of Greater Health
- Nyrulna
- Titanstring Bow
Buffs and Enhancements
- Hag's Hair went to Strength - 17 base + 1 = 18 Strength
- Brand of the Absolute and Loviatar's Love
- Volo's Eye
- Necromancy of Thay, both buffs
- Awakened Illithid powers
- Potion of Everlasting Vigor - 18 STR + 2 = 20 Strength
- Partial Illithid, because flying!
- Githrazei Mind Barrier
- Arabella's Shadow Entanglement
- Tharacite Vigor
- Anointed in Splendor
- Statue of myself buff
- Mirror of Loss - 20 STR = 2 = 22 Strength
Other Misc Tactics and Potions
I used Potion of Speed, Elixir of Bloodlust, Elixir of Viciousness, Invisibility, and various posions/toxins for weapon dipping throughout the game. Bloodlust was easily the most important for a solo run, I tried to put it on after as many long rests as possible, followed closely by speed potions and invisibility on a per battle basis. Buy Hyena Ears and Worg Fangs every time you see them.
I stocked up on tons of scrolls along the way, the most important of which were Haste, Remove Curse, Misty Step, Fireball, Lightning (+Chain), Mirror Image, Invisibility, Cone of Cold or other large AOE high level spells.
FOOTNOTE: Thanks for reading this far. I've played through the game now like 12 times or so, with one successful honor run, and the last 3 of which were solo runs on Tactician. The solo runs were inspired by Friendly Lich and his blade warlock: https://www.reddit.com/BG3Builds/comments/1cmn6sb/a_warlock_pact_of_the_blade_multiclass_for_solo/ This resisting the dark urge run was my favorite playthrough so far, for both the narrative storyline, and how it played thematically into this build, with the choices between good and evil waffling back and forth along the way, ultimately leading to redemption. I think this is the best story arc of BG3. I've considered a couple of other options for this build that I'd like to experiment with in the future, including ditching one of the feats and adding one level of War Cleric to get Sanctuary and Guidance. I will not lie, I save scummed a few times along the way and Guidance and Sanctuary would have helped me a bunch in those situations. However, it was rewarding to get the full martial with Tavern Brawler on Nyrulna in the end, will report back if I end up tinkering. Suggestions welcome! submitted by

2024.05.14 01:32 ColdInMinnesooota FYI: b0t / pr firm / campaign activity has increased recently (and will be getting worse probably)
With the election season coming up, the bots are out in full force - and a lot more forceful. I posted the below text on the centrist subreddit where I first noticed how bad bot activity is ramping up, but thought I'd repost here, since this seems to be target in the past. (as well as most politically minded subreddits) Also included are a few ways I've noticed them, to assume that I'm arguing with bots and thus stop when I realize this. (and then proven probably right in what happens next)
The change in various subreddits in pretty much everything related to the recent protests has proven yet again how reddit can be manipulated, and how I'd wager 1/3 to 1/2 of the commenters aren't "real" in the organic sense in politically-minded subs. (more on that below)
TLDR: make your comments and move on, don't engage too much with replies, because chances are is that you've engaged with a bot recently, and much more likely on any politically related posts. The entire system of upvotes / downvotes is corrupted, not to mention many of the commenters are paid shills (with various ways of assuming they are - not proving 100%, but lots of evidence they are)
So basically you are just wasting your time and giving your energy to the machine - don't do this TOO much. It's a waste of energy / time. As carlin says, at least when you are ...... you have something to show for it -
Just an fyi, there's a 50-50 chance you are talking to a bot right now - I've noticed a lot of this activity recently, and especially on this sub.
How do I know?
Look at what gets upvoted and downvoted - these have changed drastically recently (like on Israel related ones - on this sub - anything for the protests gets massively downvoted, this - on reddit? no way)
-Why do your comments stay at -2 or -4? because they're hidden by the default view. they do this to create an environment that most normies won't question and/or look further into.
-Do they not actually respond to your points / miss nuance / context? they're probably in a different country using auto translation software. people abroad can't tell the difference between an ICE car and a car ice sculpture, for example.
Also look at the commenters, what they say and their profiles. a lot don't look real.
And these are just the accounts that they don't do a good job at making their profiles look legit, because there's no point. (since they are throwaways)
My point being don't waste your life replying to many of these people, they probably are just interns / bots anyways.
Here's a link from a supposed testament of how this works: (supposed - not proven, but it lines up from my prior political consultant activity a LONG time ago)
https://www.reddit.com/seculartalk/comments/1ab9cn2/are_there_really_paid_shills_doing_online/
"My niece was a political science major at a reputable university in California. Part of her program is a coop portion where they join a campaign for a semester. This happens twice during the four year undergrad program. If you’re not familiar with how co-op works the school places you. You don’t have a choice. If all goes well you get some good experience, something to put on your resume, you make connections that can help you after you graduate and if you’re lucky you get hired on as a paid staffer.
In 2016 she was on the Kamala Harris senate campaign for Barbara Boxer’s seat. Then she was on David Baladao’s congressional campaign in 2018.
After graduating she was hired on to the Kamala Harris presidential campaign in January of 2019. This is where she went from student/volunteer to a paid position and the job changed a lot. So instead of door knocking, putting up posters, applauding during campaign speeches and running errands she was helping organize the field team and the cyber team. The field team is pretty straight forward so let’s focus on the cyber team.
Their job was to see what was hot and how can the campaign get in front of whatever issue or whatever was happening at the time. Did a candidate in another campaign put his foot in his mouth? Is there a controversy that is early in the news cycle? Is something being talked about online that makes our candidate look bad? Kamala getting political favors from people she dated and keeping an innocent man in prison were the ones I remember off hand. This is all normal stuff. Other than planting staffers at rallies to ask questions because the rubes never seemed to ask the right questions for Kamala’s already prepared answers there isn’t a lot of juicy gossip on these campaigns. But the cyber team had another role which is why I’m making this post now.
The cyber team and most of the staffers were expected to participate in forums, bulletin boards, social media chat spaces, all platforms including reddit. They were expected to have multiple accounts and maintain characters while engaging with other users. She used pre-maid accounts that were at least three years old. They would push-pull ideas to see what worked and what fell flat. The same person would have nice, mean, old, young, female, male, gay etc personas. Each with a bio. If one of them left the campaign someone else would take it over. This is all over and above the bot accounts. The cyber team were real people with multiple fake accounts testing talking points and seeing what the push back would be so the candidate would be prepared when the campaign couldn’t protect her from real people. The main work was done in a cubicle farm by a dedicated team but regular staffers were required to do it as well. The K-hive cyber team and the BootieJudge cyber teams hated each other and took pleasure in exposing their rival’s accounts.
That person you are having an argument with online may just be a shill from someone’s campaign. It may also be Russian, Israeli, Chinese and surprisingly Turkish agents. Election interference is real but it isn’t hacking voting machines but instead two idiots arguing online with one of those idiots being paid to do it. So the next time you encounter someone in sub, any sub just understand when they start spouting talking points they may not be a real person.
Age of the account won’t help you. Banning normally doesn’t help much because the can just hop-on with another account. It’s only going to get worse as the election heats up. God help us all."
Ever notice how blocking only gets a response from another different account? believe it or not most real people dont' do this - you just argued with a bot / pr shill / campaign.
https://np.reddit.com/shills/comments/4kdq7n/astroturfing_information_megathread_revision_8/
Here's also a good example on the centrist thread, where I originally created this post -
God with a soft g has the top rates comment, and is lying about the prior convo to discredit what I said:
I was replying to a question of why xudoxis (a user) was spam posting at all on a different thread in this subreddit (centrist) - they were posting multiple stories on the exact same topic in this thread - another commenter was calling them out on it - upon which I replied, given their spam posting of the same story on this subreddit multiple times - that they were a bot.
see the bot-ness? of course you do.
then God with a soft g replies with only my response on this thread, not to the comment I was replying to in the prior one -
my guess: both xudoxis and god with a soft g aren't legitimate. one was spamming stories, the other defending that spammer (and also young acct) by lying about the convo. (after i blocked xudoxis, since they couldn't respond to me)
yes, this is all small crap, who cares - but realize this is pr plain and simple - they lie all the time.

2024.05.14 01:24 HuffPuff87 Frustrated, out of options and can't see a specialist for 2 months.
Apologies for the long post but I'm pretty much over medical personnel at the moment and I'm frustrated. I've had a severe cough that began in December. I've had it at least once a month since then. By severe I mean I have random coughing fits that result in me either urinating on myself or vomiting on myself. Lately it's been both. Seems to be brought on by the slightest cold. I have a daughter in daycare so while illness is not uncommon, this is a bit extreme. It's normally coupled with a sinus infection.
I went to urgent care in December and was told to ride it out and given an updated inhaler script. I eventually got better.
It came back in February and to urgent care I went again. My primary has retired and I didn't have another lined up so Urgent Care seemed an ok choic. Left with a script for promethazine. Nearly finished the bottle before I got better.
It came back in March to which I called my doctor's office and got the first available doctor for a consult since I knew urgent care wasn't gonna do anything for me. We spoke over the phone and he said I likey had pertussis so he prescribed a steroid and antibiotic. Worked within a day. I was much better instantly so I finished the round and figured we were good to go.
April was a let down as the cough returned. I quickly emailed the doctor and requested the same treatment. I had refills for the steroid so I just refilled but I needed him to prescribe the antibiotic. He refused. He said he can't prescribe it when the symptoms haven't been present that long. Uhm, what do you mean?! You knew my history already? He repeatedly told me there was nothing we could do, that I could try the steroid alone but it probably wouldn't do anything. I told him I refused to believe that there was nothing we could do and there had to be something, especially considering the antibiotic worked so quickly last time. He REFUSED to assist further and suggested if my symptoms were that bad to go to the ER for a chest X-ray. Fine.
Went to the ER and got a chest X-ray. Was there for literally 1.5 hours and walked away with a $2500 bill, a clear X-ray and a script for Tessalon Perles, a recommendation for Mucinex D, and oh look, the SAME ANTIBIOTICS I ASKED THE PRIMARY FOR, WHO SAID HE COULDN'T GIVE THEM TO ME. They knew my script history and had zero problem giving me the antibiotic. The ER doctor even laughed when I told him the primary said I had pertussis. His diagnosis- bronchitis. Told me to follow up with said doctor. No thank you.
The cocktail of antibiotics, Mucinex D and Tessalon Perles seemed to do the trick. For a while.
It's now May and the cough is back full force and more violent than ever. But instead of multiple coughing fits throughout the day, I get a few really violent ones with both vomiting and peeing. So I got that going for me, which is nice.
I called a pulmonologist today to get an appointment. I figured I'd start there. When the medical assistant asked me why I'm seeing the doctor, I ran down a TLDR of the above and was so very delighted to hear her response of, “So a cough?” Yeah girl. Put down a cough. I corrected her- “A severe cough.” I doubt she added the adjective. The next available isn't for 2 months.
So here I sit, being asked to ride it out and ingesting a cocktail of Mucinex D and ibuprofen with a little snack of Tessalon Perles during bed time. I'm almost positive this is gonna cause some long term repercussions but I have a 1 year old, a husband and a job to think of today. I'm still blown away that when I brought this up to the primary, that he's telling me there nothing he can do when I'm telling him I get random coughing fits in the car while driving my toddler around, I get a “Sorry. Try the ER.”
As you can probably tell, I'm at a loss on what to do. When I think my cocktail is working, I'm reminded it's not. Any suggestions other than, see a pulmonologist, would be greatly appreciated. Any reassurance that the primary isn't a complete moron, also appreciated. I would hate to think that a doctor would be that careless for no reason.
TLDR: Intermittent (monthly) sever cough since December, accompanied by sinusitis, vomiting and incontinence. Antibiotics helps but Dr. won't prescribe more than one round. Currently taking Mucinex D, 400 ibuprofen and Tessalon Perles at night for sleep. Appt with pulmonologist in 2 months but what to do until then?
Thanks for reading.

2024.05.14 01:23 Aktoruk Aizen vs Kaden (Bleach vs Guardian Tales) ‘To Strike Down Those Above’. UPDATED/IMPROVED CONNECTIONS + update on Aktoruks future
| Real Talk, it’s a bit rough, so no shame in scrolling past. Go past the Spoiler warning for the stuff related to the MU. I’ve kept a lot hidden from my online persona, but I’ll be honest for a moment. Currently, in a separate province, my mom is going for scans. There’s a very real chance that she has cancer, and the thought frankly destroys me. I’ve decided that I’ll be taking a ‘break’ after this post. I truly do adore this community, but personal things are just not doing great. I wish to avoid the risk of high emotions I am currently susceptible to. I’ll probably be sticking around to lurk at times, but it’ll be low key. I wished to make something more, and decided that making things smoother for the MU I’m most proud of is a good way to leave things. When I return, I have many more projects planned. Scripts, MU’s, and even Scaling Scans. Look forward to that, while I do the opposite (of looking forward in general, I’m excited for the projects). Depending on the speed of things, I may know how things go at the end of this week. There are two cases. In the best case, I will be back shortly after this news. In the worst case, it may be multiple months before I return, should I return. Thank you all in advance for reading, and thank you all for being cool people. It’s been really helpful being able to take my mind off things, and I hope I can continue to make a fool of myself in all the best ways. Absolutely massive spoilers for both Bleach and Guardian Tales. Only read if you are fine with that. immediate Basic Core connections -Villains -Villainous allies -Both From Asian (east) countries -Ancient beings in comparison to human lifespan, but not particularly for their species. -Yes, ‘en’ is the final part of their five-letter names. This is not something that should sell you on the matchup. In Depth/Actually Good Connections -Long-term threats in their respective series. Constant presences which utilize the protagonists as tests. -While among the most powerful characters in their verse, intelligence is what makes them terrifying. Capable of manipulating their way into power, influence, and secrecy. -Prior to a massive reveal, both are thought to be allies to the ‘good side’ (Captain Aizen and Kaden the Hero), with the few who knew being ancient scientists that got locked away to prevent word from spreading. -Their major goals involve utilizing an unknown power (Labose and the Hogyoku) which is made via mass sacrifice. Both would seemingly succeed in mastering this power, though it is purposefully left vague if they hold complete control. -During the process of obtaining this power, both would infect others with a primary ‘disease’ of the series (Hollowfication and L-Bacteria). This includes characters of high power (Several Captains and Lieutenants and A Hero of the Champions Sword + A Dragon). -Both have purposes for these actions which seem good in a skewed lens (Ending the existence of the Soul King and Preventing the Loop from Continuing). These events both involve a higher power (Potentially the highest in the series). -But through a regular lens, these plans are fucked ways to handle the issues. This is due to issues with both characters mentality (Aizen was incapable of seeing others as equal to him and Kaden was burdened with hundreds-thousands of his past timelines). -Their eventual ascension would first turn them into monstrous beings due to their views of power, but would both return to forms close to original at their strongest. -Similarity in armies. Lorraine and Gin are both ‘right-hands’ with closed eyes, who would eventually attempt to overthrow when the ascension had already begun. The Arracnars and L-Monsters are beings from the series that were manipulated by the characters. They would accept ‘power’ which allowed them to be either pawns or tests. -Opposites of their main/orginal world (SS and The Otherside) would be where their plans of action took place. -Both utilize dimensional rifts to travel. -They would be defeated by the ‘experimental’ protagonists (Ichigo and The Guardian) which they had kept an eye on with interest to their plans. -Both would end up aiding the protagonist against a further threat (Ywach and *The Fairies). While it is questionable whether this was simply due to shared interest or a show of empathy, both were ultimately good actions which saved the lives of many. *The Fairies do not currently have an official title. Contrasts: -Bisecting/Permanently crippling others was used against Kaden (via Clara), while Aizen used it for his plan (Taking a SK piece from Rangiku when attempting to create a Hogyoku). -Kaden truly believes himself to be doing a noble thing, while Aizen is aware that what he does is wrong (he just doesn’t care). -Kaden shows genuine struggle to kill his old allies (Such as Erina), while Aizen has no issues harming his fellow captains and his Squads lieutenant. Animation Potential: Kaden holds this back due to GT being incredibly niche. Aizen has a wide variety of both sprite and 2d models to work with (DB has already used a sprite for him). While Kaden only has his ingame sprite, which does not fit Aizen’s. In their simplest forms, both are not easy draws. In their monstrous forms, Aizen is a little more difficult and Kaden is horrid. Kaden does have some stuff to work with for creation of a model (plenty of ingame art), but that’s the issue, it would have to be fan-made. Fight Potential: -Army fight potential with Arrancars vs L-Monsters. -End of army battle with Espada vs Laura, Morrian, and the L-Titans. -Begin in base forms, simple sword fight. Kaden has his staff Repentance and Aizen has his Zanpakuto Kyoka Suigetsu. Both are capable in close-quarters combat. Aizen will Utilize his Kido for an Advantage vs Kaden’s usage of Ice and Chains. Kaden takes the upper hand, stabbing Aizen with Repentance. Only for it to be revealed that he was under Kyoka Suigetsu, and killed Clara (or an image of her, at least) -First evolution: Cocoon Aizen vs First Phase Infected Kaden. Similar fighting style, Kaden focusing more on Chains, L-Flowers, and ice than before. Honestly, the least interesting part of the fight, as both are similar to the first forms. The one thing I’ll give this is Gin and Lorraine both attempting to take them out would be best fit here. Gin vs Kaden and Lorraine vs Aizen. They’ll lose, but it gives a path to the next part. -Second Evolution: Butterfly Aizen vs Second Phase Infected. At this point both utilize a lot more of their ranged attacks. It’s very much similar to the other evolutions though, just with more monstrous canvas’s. At this point Kaden has a Labose realm that he utilizes, which can serve as a counter of some degree to Kyoka Suigetsu. Though it has an obvious weakness with the crystals, so Aizen has an actual out. -Final Evolution: ‘Sealed’ Aizen vs Final Phase Kaden. Both back to Human forms. Aizen being fused with his Zanpakuto means that it’s now fists vs Sword (Kaden is using the Disgraced Heroes Blade). Both utilize ranged attacks. Kaden’s storms vs Aizens Kido. While I’m not sure whether it would technically work, Kaden using a dimension slash to break free of Kyoka Suigetsu would be sick. -Death: Two ways. Reaching the end of the fight, both combatants stand to look at each other. For a brief moment, they flash to their ‘good’ forms. Captain Aizen and Kaden the Hero. Perhaps things could be different had their minds been in better spots. Regardless, should Kaden win, he erases Aizen via Labose. Should Aizen win, he destroys Kaden with a Cero. Debate: Note: One thing I wish to do once I return is make a proper and studied look into uni Bleach. I do not think my speed debating did justice to what I’m still certain one. But I need to ensure I’m not on a path without bearing. This was created with Uni Aizen in mind, and I know it a slippery slope, but this current debate is using that for the sake of storytelling a close fight. I understand that it’s flawed until/unless I come with the proof, but I’ve opted to make this choice. I will also be using the lower interpretation of Kaden (Universal rather than Mutli or higher). As the debate has an obvious winner in this case, regardless of where Aizen gets scaled. Win Cons: Unlike a lot of Aizen Matchups, he actually has a loss condition that doesn’t rely on being stat-stomped. Labose has erasure capabilities, proving capable of wiping timelines completely. Kaden will need to weaken/overpower Aizen to manage this, but just in the same way someone would need to for a regular kill. Kaden is limited in his rebirth, and unlike Aizen, is capable of dying once he reaches his peak. The longer the fight goes on, the better chance Aizen has of landing a killing blow. I will not be considering the memories stored within the champions sword. While it would be a restoration of the Kaden that fought Aizen, it is reliant on a continuing loop (an outside force). If Aizen kills the body of the current timeline, that is absolutely close enough to be called a victory. Strength: Aizen takes this due to affecting the three realms (3 Universes) while Kaden only affects 2. It’s close, but Aizen just has a larger showing. Durability: Same as Strength, as it’s a showing of 3 Universes to 2. Speed: Likewise, the ability to nearly instantly affect 3 universes is higher than affecting 2, which means Aizen is presumably faster. Both have similar capabilities with dimensional travel and teleportation, so this is actually a close stat. Experience: Both are centuries old at least, with all being dedicated to fighting or research. But Kaden has hundreds, if not thousands, of loops worth of memories as well. This is a wash for Kaden. Intelligence: Tie, both not only show incredibly similar cognitive capability, but they both focus on manipulation. There’s nothing to show that either has a notable advantage. Skill: For use of extended abilities, Aizen’s Kido and Kyoka Suigetsu is far more impressive than Kaden’s ice, chains, and Labose attacks. Kaden is far more impressive than Aizen, due to being a long-term swordsman primarily, and capable of beating primordial sword fighters. I give it a tie, but unlike for intel as it’s because they have a roughly equal amount of advantages, rather than being equal in everything. Powers: Even with Labose having the potential to counter it, Aizen still has immortality. Kaden also has no good counters to mind fucks. Aizen takes this. Weapons: I’m treating this as ‘army’, as it’s unfair to include the more power-like Kyoka Sugetsu. Likewise a tie, because Aizen has a more impressive variety of Arrancars, but Kaden utilizes his forces far more effectively. Aizen has no issue killing of valuable allies, but Kaden knows how to make only necessary sacrifices. Winner: Should we utilize the prior sackings, Aizen wins. He’ll need to be wary of Labose, a power that proves to be a risk to his immortality, but Kaden can’t take advantage of that unless he can get through Aizen’s incredible variety and Kyoka Suigetsu. All Aizen needs to do is continue forcing Kaden on the back foot, eventually his evolution will peak and a kill becomes possible. Kaden won’t be able to find a victory in 9/10 cases. With mid-dif (due to Kaden having very possibly chances at victory), Aizen is the winner. submitted by Aktoruk to DeathBattleMatchups [link] [comments] |

2024.05.14 01:18 BeefstewSA [SPOILERS] Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: A World Beyond Anger
https://planckstorytime.wordpress.com/ Hello! This is an essay analyzing the themes of FF7 Rebirth through a psychoanalytic lens, while also critiquing the execution of the game's writing. Moreover, it's a personal reflection on my journey with the game, and the complicated feelings that got tangled up with that. Please give it a read if you have the chance.

I. Memoirs of a Neurotic Fan Hoo boy.
It’s been a
long four years since
Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020) released, and I don’t think I have ever before devoted so much emotional energy to deciphering how I truly feel about a piece of media. Initially, I enjoyed my return to a reimagined world of lovable characters, but unfavorable writing choices and a mind-boggling finale left me feeling torn. Despite striving to maintain an optimistic outlook at the end of my
previous essay, my perspective on the game only darkened as the years wore on. Developer interviews constantly oscillated back and forth as to whether they would remain faithful to the original
FF7 (1997), or, as the ending of
Remake indicated, strike out on a brand new “unknown journey.” That’s not to mention the downright radioactive discourse among fans, combined with the litany of harassing messages I received for the most tepid criticisms.
Eventually, I grew to despise
Remake. The positive emotions and ecstatic love I had for parts of the game sunk beneath my waves of ire toward its creative divergences – as well as what they represented to me. And I fed that hate. I hated its ponderous navel-gazing about the nature of adaptations. I hated its self-congratulatory insinuation that asinine story decisions like the “Baby’s-First-Metacommentary” Whispers and the resurrection of multiple deceased characters somehow constituted “bold” storytelling. I hated the uncritical portion of certain audiences that fell for this illusion of transgressive storytelling, all the while embracing a game that went out of its way to barrage the player with fanservice and puerile pandering. I hated the frequent argumentation that “it’s not a remake, it’s a sequel” was somehow seen as a mitigating factor, when it actually further aggravated my problems with it. I hated
Remake’s emphasis on novelty, its subversion without meaning, its arrogant alienation of new audiences that wanted to experience a classic story, and its implicitly cynical view on thousands of years of storytelling tradition for the sake of “surprise.” To quote director
Naoki Hamaguchi:
“When you try to remake a game and make it an entertaining game, having the exact storyline as the original would lack the excitement and surprise. I was looking for an essence to add to the story, and Zack was chosen to be this essence because in the original, there wasn’t much story about Zack, but in Crisis Core
, he had a huge character development.” But that lonely ember of hope persisted; after all, I had loved
Remake at one point. I hated that stubborn attachment most of all. By the time
Rebirth was fully unveiled, I wanted only one thing from it: to repulse me to my core, to be something so egregiously offensive to my sensibilities that I could never associate the project with anything positive again. “Perhaps if things get stupid enough,” I thought, “others will also see the emperor’s nakedness.” Pain and despair morphed into objects of desire for me. They were my keys to escaping these contradictory feelings of love and hate.
As you can see, I am quite well-adjusted and able to engage with art in a healthy way.

2024.05.14 01:11 SecretAgentDragon The Ultimate Guide to Getting Gallagher’s Ultimate
I have seen many people needing help with Gallagher’s energy thresholds, so I figured that since I’d already done some of the math, I should do the rest and write up something to help everyone know what choice should be made and why. And also because it is one of the main reasons these calcs mater I will also include SP (Skill Points)/turn gains and BE (Break Effect) opportunity cost for each
Before I get into the long version: the TLDR is if you need more SP from Gallagher (Firefly teams will need this) You can use energy planar set (such as Penacony set), break rope, and a non energy LC such as “What is Real” or “Multiplication” and normal attack every turn for the lowest BE cost to have the most SP/turn. If you have somebody else generating enough SP in some team comp, you can use Post Op Conversation , Energy Rope, and energy planar for very fast ults but SP negative
When calculating what actions Gallagher should be using each rotation of ults, I will prioritize Basic attacks/normal attacks over skills if possible, and have both the lowest turn count and highest SP gain. I will also be calculating the fastest way to get your first ult with E1. SP/turn considers the ult advance as not an additional turn, but does consider it’s SP change
All calc assume no teammates provide energy or energy regeneation rating, and Gallagher never gets hit
And now starting off the lengthy explanations:
Just Energy Planar set
You get your first ult after 2 basic attacks every subsequent ult can be done every 5 basic for 1.25 SP/turn or every 2 skills 2 basic at SP neutral This has the opportunity cost of 36% BE from Talia set (or you could use 2.3 Planer which I won’t explain due to being a leak, but this part will be notable in 2.3)
With just Energy Rope
You get your first ult after 1 skill Every subsequent ult can be done every 5 normal attacks for 1.25 SP/turn or every 3 basic attacks and 1 skill for 2/3 SP each turn This has the opportunity cost of 64.8% BE from a break rope
With just Post Op Conversation (this is included to prove why it’s probably not worth using. Use Multiplication if you want 25% more turns (assuming you skill 1 or less times every) or What is Real for the 48% BE)
You get your first ult after 1 skill (this is the only thing it does better than the planar ever as you will see) Every subsequent ult can be done every 5 basic attacks for 1.25 SP/turn or every 2 skills 2 basic attacks for SP neutral (note these are identical to just the set) The opportunity cost for this is dependent on your other LC choice
When using 2 choices I will give the least SP negative way to have less turns to ult than the faster of the 2 (Even with Rope + Op none of these let you be any more SP positive without losing turns)
With energy Planar and rope
Every subsequent ult can be done after 3 skills for -1.5 SP per turn This has the opportunity cost of 100.8% BE
With energy rope and Post Op
Every subsequent ult can be done every 3 skills for -1.5 SP per turn (note: this is once again identical to planar instead of Post Op)
With energy Planar and Post Op
Nothing changes from either alone except that the first ult is 1 skill like just Post Op
Now for some slight oddball options
With no energy regeneration rating
You get your first ult after 2 basic attacks Every subsequent ult can be done every 4 basic attacks and 1 skill for 0.75 SP/turn
With all 3
You get your first ult after 1 skill Every subsequent ult can be done every 1 basic and 2 skills for -0.5 SP/turn
Anticipated FAQ:
Why E1? Gallagher’s E1 gives the equivalent energy to using 1 basic attack at the start of the battle, saving a turn to get the first ult, if you have E0 just add 1 turn basic attacking to the existing count
Why Post Op over Huo Huo signature isn’t that more ERR? Yes it is, the original reason was that I am a F2P player and wish for this guide to be useful for F2P players If you would like to know however, the only thing it changes is both LC+something else can switch 1 skill for a basic attack and using HuoHuo sig+energy rope lets you normal 4 times per ult
Why assume Gallagher never gets hit? Why not use Thief 4? Why no ally energy? A main goal of this was for these to be 100% reliable and independent
What’s an opportunity cost? (Just in case people ask) An opportunity cost is a cost to making a choice that comes from the inability to take the other choice. As you can only have 1 rope/Planar set/LC any you dedicate to energy comes at an opportunity cost from the other options

2024.05.14 00:56 BeefstewSA Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: A World Beyond Anger
https://planckstorytime.wordpress.com/ Hello!
Previous articles: FF7: Reflections of a Traumatized Generation (2020) I Need to Talk about Final Fantasy VII Remake or My Head Will Explode (2021) Excerpt: “
A confluence of worlds… and emotions. Loss, chief among them. It engulfs fleeting moments of joy, transforming them into rage, sadness, hatred.” – Sephiroth,
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (2024), speaking to me, specifically
*The following contains spoilers\*

2024.05.14 00:48 SourSensuousness Passed D281 / Linux Essentials OA!
Got a 690, nice.
Prior to this, my only real experience with Linux had been making a Raspberry Pi tablet that nobody really uses, and installing Kali Linux on a potato laptop. I'm a Mac user and I have used Terminal a bit, and I used DOS a lot in the 90s, so some of the material (particularly hardware, basic CLI) was familiar to me. I started studying about two and a half weeks ago.
In case this is helpful to anybody, this is what I did and here are my thoughts:
- I went through the Cisco NetAcademy course. I did some of the labs. I read all the content and outlined it. It was extremely boring.
- I completed all the unit tests on the Cisco course (In one case, and chapter 9 I am looking at you, up to 11 times...) and looked up answers and reread material until I was consistently scoring 80% or, ideally, 90-100% on each unit, the midterm, the final, and the cumulative final. Last night I finally hit 80% on all except Chapter 18 (Special Directories and Files), which is sorta funny since I got 100% on the "Security and File Permissions" component of the exam.
- I made Anki flashcards for everything I got wrong or that confused or even mildly interested me. Basically, I "Ankified" everything that was not a transition sentence, lol.
- I also had a big document where I took notes from every single section. This was, honestly, mostly to keep myself from just skimming through and skipping over stuff because it was really really dull. It might not be efficient, but throughout my education (and this ain't my first school rodeo), I've found it useful to see how information is organized, so I generally make top-down outlines of what I read. I used to do this in MS Word but lately I've been using Notion since the formatting is nicer Maybe it's a total waste of time, because it took fivever. But I did it and now I have a huge Notion document of Linux notes....so I've got that going for me.
- I went through the big blue Linux book. It was also EXTREMELY boring. It was actually sort of impressive, just how incredibly dull they managed to make that book. After a certain point, it felt almost like meditation or a fever dream. I had a friend who did a silent meditation retreat and I think I started to feel like she described feeling towards the end of that. I did as many of the exercises and "explorational" activities as possible (some required permissions that weren't possible with the VMs I had at the moment).
- For a few days, I was using the online tests / flashcards that went with the LPI Linux Essentials Study Guide: Exam 010 v1.6 book, but apparently the site those were on was "retired" on April 30th, and it was annoying enough to get access the first time, so I didn't bother to try & figure out whatever it changed to. I found that book to be the least helpful of the materials anyway. The practice tests were the best thing about that one.
- I completed the Codecademy Bash scripting course one afternoon, since I like Codecademy's approach to scaffolding material and wanted to practice actually doing Bash scripting (but without, like, installing a VM).
- I took all the Dion exams multiple times.
- I followed the same process as with the Cisco exams, making cards / looking up anything and everything I got wrong.
- I made Anki flashcards for all of the above, and used GIFs or made graphics or used ChatGPT / Midjourney to generate ridiculous / weird images or songs to help me remember commands. Please, let me regale you with my and ChatGPT's interpretation of Johnny Cash, called "A Command Named Su." (And, actually, su came up ZERO times on the actual exam for some reason).
- I played this "Command Line Murder Mystery" game and really wished there was more to it, because while it's a great intro to the CLI that I'd recommend to anybody new to it, it also replicated a lot of the stuff I was more familiar with. I would have loved it if there had been something like that for every corresponding unit of the Cisco course or chapter of the book.
- I spent about a week and a half going through the flashcards during any and all downtime: During my kid's bath, on a flight, at a stoplight, at a family wedding, hair appointment, meals, whatever.
- I had started out by downloading a public Anki deck that was supposed to be for Linux Essentials, but ultimately I didn't think those cards helped nearly as much as the ones I made myself. The process of making the cards is important, and the deck I found was all "basic" format (instead of Cloze or Image like I was using). The deck I found had very open-ended questions that lacked context, and I regret wasting time on it instead of just making my own cards from the get-go. In the end, my deck was 835 cards, though that included the rando one I had downloaded. I don't think I use Anki in the most efficient way, so that was probably too many.
- I was able to attend one of the Cohorts and do the online game yesterday, and it was both fun and helpful. So I'd definitely recommend doing that.
Exam:
- I was mildly surprised that there were a few more "pick X of these options" questions than I'd expected. I had thought there'd be 7; by my count, I had 9.
- In case you aren't aware, there are about 3 fill-in-the-blank questions on the exam. They only ask for one word, though. The practice exams do not have these types of questions. However, since I had no idea until yesterday that this was even a question type, I wanted to put that out there, since some people might get thrown off by a question type they're not expecting.
- I did my exam at a testing center and it felt like a damn vacation. I managed to show up precisely on time for the first and probably only time in my entire life. It was, just extremely nice people, free parking, free locker for my stuff, a nice sunny window in the testing room, everything was very clean and bright. I wish I could take all the OAs that way!
- I've taken the Dion and Cisco and Study Guide practice tests so many times they run together, so it's hard to say exactly which questions came from where, but I was surprised that a lot of the questions on the exam were verbatim from the pool of practice tests I'd been using.
- In general, I think Dion's exams were a little bit easier than the actual exam and Cisco's were a little bit harder. Dion tends to have some goofy or humorous "distracter" wrong answer options (which, frankly, I appreciate because this was generally extremely boring material to me, sorry), but the other practice exams I took were all srsbiz. Also, since Cisco's unit tests are specialized to each topic, I think they go into greater depth than the actual exam might.
- In the end, I think I did substantially better on the exam than I had on the Cisco material, so I'd say that Cisco over-prepares you a tiny bit and that's probably what you want, right?
- I was so psyched about the "Command Named Su" and never even got to use it. :(
Recommendations:
- I am sure the best actual approach is to have and use Linux daily via the command line, or perhaps to be bo(u)rn(e) to a family fluent in C and grow up speaking Bash or C as your native language... but failing that, I'd start with the Cisco course (Link). It's fantastic that it's FREE. Note that about once a week they take it down for an annoyingly long maintenance window, but still. Each unit test is only 10 questions, and it doesn't actually tell you what the "right" answers are if you get them wrong, so it's extremely hard to get through a unit without having a good understanding of the material.
- If you're not familiar with the CLI, definitely try the game I linked above. It's really cool. Actually, try it even if you are, it's just a fun way to practice.
- If you can figure out where the practice tests went for the LPI Linux Essentials Study Guide: Exam 010 v.16 (by Bresnahan and Blum), they are fairly useful, but they are also very, very similar to the Cisco course.
- It took me some time to figure out that the Dion course on Udemy is really two courses. One has videos and 2 practice exams, one is just 6 practice exams. Between the two courses, there are 8 practice exams. I took all of them multiple times and thought they were really good practice. I tried feeding the exams to Chat GPT and asking it to generate new questions, but it didn't work very well (they were too easy / just reworded, etc).
- I love Anki, though I guess it might not work for everybody, and don't take a shortcut; make your own flashcards.
- A lot of the material that seems to be floating around about this exam is redundant to the big boring book and the Cisco course. So I think it probably matters to just find a format you enjoy, or at least that you can stand (e.g., video, course, whatever) and stick with it all the way through.
- The thing that helped the most for me, in terms of both trying to stay sane and memorizing the material, was trying to turn it into something fun and interesting. I actually began to enjoy the process of studying once I started making stupid / weird / traumatizing AI art images. I am sure a smarter person than myself (which is most of you) would've probably figured that out a lot faster.
- The real kernel is the soul-crushing boredom we found along the way. Right?
OK, onward and upward. Hope this helps somebody out.

2024.05.14 00:42 SweetFedJuices I have some offers and not sure what to choose… + Interview notes.
Hello! So I have a few offers, and I’m not sure the right direction to go… For reference, 21M, married, LCOL area, MBA, recently laid off…
Offer 1: Large telecommunications company in Business Sales. I previously worked for this company, before going to another one and getting laid off. They offered to interview me for a position for the business department - even though I was retail prior. It’s remote with 25-50% travel, and the travel locations are roughly 1.5-2 hours away. The pay is $55k base + a target commission of $40k, and bonus potential up to $15k. Amazing benefits including helping repay student loans. Great company. Interview was FANTASTIC! Super respectful and fun.
Offer 2: Federal government position, in an examination capacity role. It’s 100% onsite, and making around $49k-$52k. Have had a lot of family work for this branch, and some family friends in management and a couple of personal friends working there, in different departments. It’s about a 7-10 minute drive, and obviously federal benefits. Promotion potential up to $130k. Interview was scary as hell, long, and did I say scary?
Offer 3: Large telecom/tv/internet company. Senior level manager in sales. It’s also 100% onsite, however this one is an entire state away, or rather a 2.5 hour drive. The salary is $100k + commission (with a target commission being $40k) + bonus potential up to $25k, and stock options up to $5k. Benefits are good, but not spectacular. I like the company, and like the idea of being at a senior manager making that money early in my careelife especially for my wife and I but worried if I even deserve it? Interview was relaxed, we got along really well, and didn’t take long for the offer.
Offer 4: One of if not the largest Oil & Gas company in the US. In Water Logistics. I would be planning routes, and assisting haulers with emergency dispatching calls - in offer person, so I wouldn’t be the one doing the trucking. It’s 100% onsite and about a 10 minute drive. It’s a 12-hour shift position, 7-days on, 7-days off. Each month the shift rotates, so Day Shift 1 month, Night Shift the next. Pay is $60k, but with overtime can be around $85k - as mentioned by the Hiring Manager, and stated “overtime is built in, so it’s closer to the higher”. Benefits are meh, but they offer $5k in student loan repayment per year (my MBA is only $17k). Company I have always wanted to work for, but at a different capacity, however, they’re typically not hiring because their retention is so high. Their turnover is about 3%. Family member works in there as a HR Director also. Interview was okay, mentioned multiple times that I didn’t have the experience - and the offer was the very lowest they had posted.
Offer 5: Large insurance company. Doing adjustments for large weather events. Pay is $60k and can come with bonuses up to $5k. It’s between 220-240 days of work per year, and benefits are meh. It’s remote, but with travel across my state and some surrounding ones, as needed. Good company and opportunities for advancement, and seems like a good work life balance. Interview was one of those recordings… Only spoke to a recruiter for the screening, and received an interview from the recording and personality exam.
What do you all think? I feel like I want the senior level one, but I don’t really want to move to a HCOL environment, or have to travel that much daily. I feel like I’m blessed to have so many opportunities but don’t want to make the wrong choice.

2024.05.14 00:07 Empty_Situation_5009 My friend rejects this sign from God. What should I do?
I am currently living in my friend's house due to a situation that occurred a year ago. As I lived with my friend I came to find out that they were a false Christian (I'm a Christians as well). My friend does not live by God's wisdom. In the past they have disrespected me twice in a way that goes against the Golden Rule of the Bible, “Do unto others what you want others do to you (Matt. 7).” I have confronted them about their sinful behavior multiple times but they still refuse to confess their sin (They refuse to admit that what they did to me was sin according to God's command). Their pride irritates me, and it only irritates me more that they truly believe they love and obey God. “If we say, ‘We have fellowship with him,’ and yet we walk in darkness, we are lying and are not practicing the truth (1Jhn. 1:6).” I have prayed to God about this and he has been working in a way I did not see coming!
My friend and I go to the same church, I attend a bible study session before church. After bible study I was requested to be an usher at the church by an elder (this isn't my first time ushering in the church, I basically stand at one of the entrances handing out pamphlets). I accepted his request. During the service Psalm 84:10 was quoted, specifically parts of the verse reads, “I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” This is my first time hearing this verse so I didn't think much of it. After service me and my friend got into another argument (we argue occasionally). And during the argument they said to me that they can help me find another place to live (this isn't the first time they offered). And then eventually it suddenly hit me that God was showing me something. I approached my friend with how this is not a coincidence and that this is a sign from God. They rejected the sign by saying, “My house is not wicked.”
My friend still refuses to acknowledge their sins and does not believe in the sign. I know I can't force my friend to repent (change their mind), but it frustrates me how this person continues their foolish and disrespectful behavior. I have no choice but to tolerate them because I'm living in their house. Can anyone give me any tips or Bible verses as to how I can deal with my friend better? Thank you and God bless.

FAQ Is Armored Core 6 Just Dark Souls With Mechs? No. There are some pretty notable Souls elements present. But first and foremost this is an Armored Core game. From the way the levels have been designed to the way you traverse them to the core components of combat, there is a substantial amount separating Armored Core 6 from the other modern FromSoftware titles. Is Armored Core 6 As Hard As A Souls Game? No, maybe.. Uhhh, well it's a Fronsoftware game. Don't give up skeleton!! Is Armored Core 6 An Open World Game? No, Armored Core 6's Rubicon 3 will be explored via missions. Each mission will take you to a different stage. Each stage will have a set beginning and ending. Though, the bit in between the start and end allows you to explore each area quite a bit, and as the game progresses you will be rewarded for exploring. Do I Need To Play The Previous Armored Core Games? No. While Armored Core 6 is set in the same universe, it is a wholly fresh story. So, you don't have to worry about getting lost in the narrative. Does Armored Core 6 Have Multiplayer? Yes! But PVP only. Upon completing the "Ocean Crossing" mission in the second chapter of Armored Core 6, you will unlock the NEST mode. This will allow you to face off against other players and see how you perform against other humans. How Much Can You Customize Your Mech In Armored Core 6? There is an incredible amount of customization present in Armored Core 6. From the ability to tweak every component of your AC to providing them with a custom paint job, we are quite confident in saying that you will be able to build an AC that will make you proud. You can even design your own emblem and place it anywhere on your mech. You have that level of customization. This isn't just a matter of aesthetics, either. Designing your AC—and even retooling them mid-mission—is a pretty significant part of the gameplay! How Do I Share Custom Emblems? You can only share with people in the same platform as you. In order to upload your work of art, you will need to first confirm that you are online. Now, select your emblem in the Image Editor, and enter into the "Image Controls" option. Finally, select "Upload". This will give you a Share ID. You can now give that to others and they can download your emblem! As for downloading other emblems, in the Image Editor, select the "Downloaded" tab, and you will be able to enter in one of these Share IDs. Does Armored Core 6 Have Multiple Endings? Yes. There are specific missions that are directly tethered to the specific route you take to complete the game. Don't worry, these paths are relatively easy to distinguish. Around the mid-way point of the game, you will be provided with certain choices that will send you down different branches of the narrative. Does Armored Core 6 Have A New Game Plus Mode? Yes. There is some content that is locked to the New Games Plus. This includes additional boss encounters. But more importantly, there are specific endings that are only obtainable after you complete the game. In fact, you will need to go up to the third playthough to unlock all content. Is The Moonlight Greatsword In Armored Core 6? Yes. Send the moderators a message about any feedback or questions about the subreddit: Modmail submitted by 98411 to ArmoredCore6 [link] [comments] |
2024.05.13 23:59 ITellMyselfSecrets4 I just had my whole run essentially ruined.
Chronos is a pretty hard boss, not just in the fact that he has a pretty tricky moveset and hits like a truck, but he's also super tanky. My run was going amazingly well, and then I got to the 4th level, and usually on this level you can get a bunch of 3x pom upgrades or coins and stuff, but the only thing I got was to see Hades and absolutely nothing else. Just 4 stages and then charons shop. So not only did I get no upgrades for my boons, I also got there with just a little more gold than I left the fields with. So basically, since charons shop by this point costs a lot, I couldn't buy anything and was left with a few boons, all being pretty low upgrade level. I did low damage to Chronos, and my lack of boons made me a lot weaker in general. I think it's ridiculous that you are offered the choice to pick between fighting more mobs for upgrades or just going straight to the boss fight, but then for some reason they don't even give you option sometimes. What is the point of that? I'm just struggling to see how it's fair that I spend 30 minutes or whatever in a run only to be screwed over on the last level because I was given literally no upgrades at all.
I feel like there should be a guaranteed option to go for more rewards. In hades 1, there was always the option as far as I'm aware, and on all the other levels, you'll always find 1-3 doors or multiple choices on the trees. So why? Why can you just get royally fucked by bad rng on the last level that is literally entirely out of your control? It's actually genuinely off-putting to continue playing, knowing I could just be completely wasting my time because I might have to fight Chronos at like 40-60% power just because, literally just because. For no reason at all. Honestly, it's a terrible design choice.

2024.05.13 23:30 helibear90 I’ve left him today
And I’m scared if I’ve done the right thing? Maybe it’s all in my head? I caught him liking inapropriate photos on insta- my friend showed me. He went mad, denied it at first until I sent screenshots, then claimed I’ve made a “fake account” to stalk him. He has refused to apologise or discuss what he’s been doing- as usual it’s all my fault.
He ended it via text and for once I didn’t beg, I agreed. I sent my mother over to collect my things and he refused to answer the door. He said he’d either drop things at my home (I’ve left to stay with my parents so I don’t want my books left out in the rain for days) or send them via mail. I told him my mother was at his door and he eventually answered and gave them back, apparently stared at the floor and didn’t say a word to her.
He’s sent me vial vitriol messages, he’s absolutely fixated on HOW I found out. He claims of if I “was just transparent” he’d apologise, but as I won’t name my friend who showed me (I won’t subject her to his verbal abuse) he won’t apologise as I’m “psychotic” and “devious” for “stalking him”. He’s changed the subject, claimed they’re friends of his (who he’s never mentioned), claimed I made my friend up. Anything to not take accountability. I told him that he always does this, DARVO, anything to blame someone else. He’s not even man enough to end it to my face, to do it by text at 37 is so cowardly. And why refuse to let me come to his home to collect my things but also refuse to let my mother get them? He even said “I’ll drop them around or post them- those are your choices” over MY property?
His last message seems to say something like “your mother has your things” but I’ve not opened it. What more is there to say? He ended it, he’s accused me of cheating (no evidence, just that I put my phone down when he enters a room. That’s because he’s shouted at me multiple times for being on my phone and not engaging with him so I’m just scared to. He’s on his phone 24/7).
Should I open? Will he message ever again? Should I block? I’m so mixed up. He even accused me of “crocodile tears” and that I’m manipulative? He has me questioning my sanity.
