The Nintendo Breakdown 2: An updated overview of confirmed, leaked, and rumored projects from Nintendo and its close partners

2024.05.11 17:34 blackthorn_orion The Nintendo Breakdown 2: An updated overview of confirmed, leaked, and rumored projects from Nintendo and its close partners

Hello again! About 6 months ago, I put together a Nintendo roundup that got some positive feedback, and with this week’s double-whammy of the Switch successor kinda being announced and a direct being confirmed for June, I figured now was as good a time as any to put out an updated version so folks can know where things stand and have something to chew on while they wait. My intent is to update this post after the June direct with any new information. Please let me know if anything's borked, as formatting big posts on reddit can get a bit wonky and some of these links are getting old
Nintendo Entertainment Planning and Development (EPD): Formed in 2015 as part of a restructuring that unified Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development (EAD) and Nintendo Software Planning and Development (SPD). When people talk about “in-house Nintendo”, this is usually what they mean. EPD groups are primarily small producedirector-led teams that then scale up and pull from a shared “pool” of developers as projects get further into development. EPD’s many sub-groups can essentially be divided into those that primarily develop their own games and those focused more on overseeing/collaborating with other studios (both non-EPD Nintendo studios as well as fully external developers), though there are exceptions and gray areas
Development-focused groups
Oversight and collaborative groups
Other Nintendo-owned Studios: Mario World outside of EPD
Close Partners and Frequent Collaborators: The Nintendo Keiretsu and Friends
Misc. Odds and Ends. Things that didn’t really fit anywhere else, big grain of salt for some of these
Engine Talk: Finally, it’s a bit esoteric but with game engines becoming an increasingly common point of conversation and speculation, I figured I’d put together a rundown of some of the engines used in Nintendo games. This isn’t a comprehensive list (esp. because many studios use proprietary engines that aren’t well-documented), but should give a general idea of who uses what to make what (shouts-out to OatmealDome on twitter for doing the datamining work whenever a new game comes out, and MondoMega on Famiboards for maintaining a useful graphic that collates most of this information) )

Challenge Cup: 1st (West) - 14 Pts, 4W-0L-2D
Reign’s 2023 season began with what could be called muted-but-high expectations. The team had just come off winning their third NWSL shield in 2022, tying North Carolina for the most shields in league history. However, despite that triumph the team had bowed out in their first playoff match yet again. This extended their playoff loss streak to 7 consecutive games, a streak that began way back in 2015 . Thus, even as the team managed to hold on to nearly all of their players from the previous season (losing only 3 in the offseason ) and added USWNT player Emily Sonnett, it was widely assumed that although the Reign had a very high chance of making the playoffs, they would be unlikely to take home a second consecutive shield.
The season began with a hot streak for the Reign. After a loss to the Washington Spirit on matchday 1, the Reign would go on to win 4 of their next 5 games, placing them temporarily atop the standings. However, in the middle of that hot streak, the Reign lost one of their best players (and arguably one of the world’s best players) in Rose Lavelle, who was injured while on international duty. Lavelle’s injury was initially mentioned as a mild one, but she would not see the field again for the Reign until August 27th. Having lost one of their best players, the team was forced to showcase its depth.
Leading up to the World Cup break, they managed a record of 3W-4L-2D, enough to keep them top-three in the standings going into the break. Alongside that, heavily-rotated teams ground out results in the Challenge Cup, allowing Reign to top an extremely competitive West Group for the second consecutive year and clinch the top seed heading into the cup’s knockout rounds. However, these performances were overshadowed by two major announcements. Megan Rapinoe, a Reign original and icon of the game, announced that she would be retiring at the end of the year. In addition to that, it was announced that Spirit owner Michele Kang would be buying OL Féminin, creating a conflict of interest and throwing the Reign into ownership limbo for the rest of the season.
As the season progressed following the conclusion of the World Cup, there were more issues to be tackled. A poor run of form saw the Reign drop 6th place in the table, and their knockout game woes continued as Racing Louisville sent them home in the Challenge Cup semifinal and extending their knockouts/playoffs streak to 8 consecutive losses. Reign also lost starting goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce to Manchester United, receiving a world record fee (for a goalkeeper) of around $160,000 in return. But like any Harvey-led Reign team, they weren’t going to go out without a fight.
On a decision day when Reign could have placed anywhere from 3rd to 9th place, they took care of business against Chicago and clinched a home playoff game. Then, with a tense 1-0 win against Angel City, the Reign’s playoff win curse finally came to an end. And following another 1-0 win against San Diego, they found themselves in the championship match for the first time in nearly a decade. A crazy final saw Megan Rapinoe subbed off early due to injury and chaos abundant as Gotham FC managed to hold on for a 2-1 win over the Reign. And with that unfortunate loss, an icon bid her farewell to the soccer pitch.
Megan Rapinoe’s retirement was a joyful and painful journey for the Reign. As one of the Reign originals and a longtime star of PNW soccer going all the way back to her college days at the University of Portland, Pinoe represented the growth of the game from spending time with Magic Jack to winning multiple world cups and hitting The Pose. Pinoe is also one of the most out and proud players in women’s soccer with her wife and fellow Seattle sports legend Sue Bird. Pinoe’s career came to a tearful end when she tore her Achilles in the championship match against Gotham, but she was still smiling and cracking jokes. Although Pinoe’s last years with the team were slowed by injury, she could still score some special goals for the Reign. Build the Statue.
OFFSEASON
Players Out
Megan Rapinoe, 38, FW, Retired - Pinoe’s retirement after a championship Achilles injury ends a career in the Northwest that makes her a Seattle sports icon alongside the city’s greats - even though she did spend some time playing soccer in Portland.
Marley Canales, 26, MF, Waived
Angelina, 24, MF, Signed with Orlando as a free agent. Angelina made just 10 regular season starts for the Reign over 3 years with her time disrupted by serious injury. She’s off to Orlando de Janeiro to play with other Brazilian greats!
Rose Lavelle, 28, MF, Signed with Gotham FC as a free agent. Another departing player whose time at the Reign was seriously disrupted by injury, Lavelle is regarded as one of the world’s most skilled creative players when she can get on the field. We’ll learn about what the Reign have done to replace her later on!
Emily Sonnett, 30, MF/DF, Signed with Gotham FC as a free agent. Sonnett, who’s spent time at different places in defense, was used more heavily at defensive midfield toward the end of her time with the Reign, and has since also seen time there for the USWNT. Who knows how she’ll be used next for the Bats!
Alyssa Malonson, 24, DF, Picked by Bay FC in the Expansion Draft
Elyse Bennett, 24, FW, Picked by Utah Royals in the Expansion Draft (later traded to San Diego Wave). Bennett, who I have a personal soft spot for after watching her play for years at Wazzu, had flashes of speed and technicality for the Reign, when used mostly as a sub. She might see more playing time with the Royals.
Sam Hiatt, 26, DF, Traded to Gotham FC in exchange for Julia Lester and $20,000. Hiatt was unfortunately the odd player out as the Reign play with two center backs and Hiatt was the third option behind Cook and Barnes, two stalwarts who eat up tons of minutes. Hopefully Hiatt might see more time on the pitch with the Bats but if she doesn’t, I could see her moving again.
Players In
Julia Lester, 26 years old, Defender - obtained in a three-team trade involving Racing and Gotham. Lester seems to be good at starting attacks, carrying the ball, and blocking attackers’ path. She’s set to back up starting center backs Alana Cook and Lu Barnes.
Ji So-Yun, 33 years old, Attacking Midfielder - obtained in a transfer from Suwon FC in South Korea. Ji had good attacking statistics in her last stint with Chelsea, but her level is yet to be seen after a year-long detour back to her home country. Her highlight reel is full of clever touches and creative passes, bringing a possible different dimension to the Reign attack.
Angharad James, 29 years old, MidfieldeFullback - arrived in a transfer from Tottenham Hotspur FC in the Women’s Super League. James will likely play alongside or compete for minutes with Quinn in the defensive midfield, or potentially spell McClernon at left fullback.
Lily Woodham, 23 years old, MidfieldeDefender - Completing the PNW Welsh Mafia, Lily arrives in a transfer from FA WSL 2 side Reading FC - the second tier of English women’s soccer. At 23, Lily has 10 caps with the Welsh women’s national team and is seen as having plenty of potential.
McKenzie Weinert, 26 years old, Forward. Returning home to the PNW after playing her college soccer at Oregon State and the University of Washington, Weinert played 17 matches in the W-League in Australia and New Zealand for Melbourne Victory. She had some decent production while there, including strong defensive stats for a forward, something the Reign definitely seem to value.
Sam Meza, 22 year old Midfielder. After playing her college ball at the University of North Carolina, Meza was drafted by the Reign when they traded up to #16 to swoop in and grab her. Head Coach Laura Harvey seemed surprised that Meza dropped to this point in the draft, and she was recently signed to a first-year contract. Meza seems to be in a position to learn from the Reign’s dual veteran #10 midfielders Fishlock and Ji.
ROSTER
Preseason Roster
Predicted Preferred Gameday XIs:
Formation: 4-2-3-1 OR 4-2-2-2
-------------------Huitema-------------------
--Balcer---------------------------Latsko--
------------Ji--------------Fishlock----------
--------------------Quinn--------------------
-McClernon----Barnes-----Cook-----Huerta-
-------------------Dickey--------------------
Alternative:
--------Huitema—------Balcer-----------
-------------Ji----------Fishlock----------
-----------Quinn------James--------------
-McClernon----Barnes-----Cook-----Huerta-
-------------------Dickey--------------------
The Reign played with a lineup much like the Alternative one listed here in a preseason match against the University of Washington, with Olivia Van Der Jagt slotting in for Angharad James, King and Latsko up top, and Shae Holmes and Ryanne Brown slotting in in defense for Barnes and Cook. This box midfield formation, much like the one that has previously been used by the North Carolina Courage, might get the best combination of the Reign’s top players on the field at the same time.
Likely Top Bench/Subs, players not already mentioned:
Olivia Van Der Jagt - Midfielder : Olivia is a good depth option in the defensive midfield and is dominant in the air.
Ryanne Brown - Defender: Brown can slot in for either fullback spot and has strong defensive stats.
Shae Holmes - Defender: Holmes will likely back up Cook and Barnes in the event their injury struggles progress into the beginning of the regular season.
Returning Players:
Claudia Dickey - Goalkeeper: Dickey will return as part of the NWSL’s best defense in 2023. She has continuity with returning players in front of her all the way through the defensive midfield. Even though Phallon Tullis-Joyce moved on to Manchester United, the Reign defense didn’t miss a beat when Dickey (and Laurel Ivory) filled in between the sticks.
Sofia Huerta - Defender: Huerta is one of the NWSL’s best crossers of the ball and her service into Balcer and Huitema is one of the most important parts of the Reign’s offensive strategy. Huerta’s expected assists, shot-creating actions per 90, and attempted long passes are all towards the top of the league.
Phoebe McClernon - Defender: On the other side of the defense, McClernon was hampered by long-term injury in 2022 and 2023, playing just 19 regular-season matches across the two years. Like Huerta, McClernon will be trusted to provide service for the Reign’s tall forwards, and spread the field when opposing defenses would like to be focusing on defending the possible box midfield or dual 10s of Fishlock and Ji.
The Vets
Lu Barnes - Defender: One of the two Reign Originals still with the team, Barnes will be holding down central defense with Alana Cook this season. Lu has played over 200 matches for the Reign, and nearly 250 in her club career - an iconic journey that will set the standard for longevity in women’s club football for years to come.
Jess Fishlock: Another Reign Original, Fishlock is one of the NWSL’s most passionate players and has the creativity to match. She also has a penchant for scoring long-range bangers and hitting the chicken dance. Fishlock loves to get involved in the attack and takes lots of shots - apparently she was heavily involved in making combinations with Ji through the middle in the Reign’s most recent preseason match.
Alana Cook - Defender: Cook won /NWSL’s tackle of the year in 2023 for a draw-saving DOGSO against North Carolina and Kerolin. She returns as a very solid defender who will look to spray passes to start Reign attacks.
Bethany Balcer - Forward: It seems like just yesterday Boats was taking the league by storm after arriving from NAIA Spring Arbor University. After winning Rookie of the Year in 2019, she’s followed that award up with seasons of 9, 7, and 6 goals in 2021, 22, and 23. Another Reign player dominant in the air, Balcer may be teaming up with Jordan Huitema this season in a two-forward look to attack Huerta and McClernon crosses.
Something to Prove
Tziarra King - Forward: Z went without a goal or assist in 660 minutes in 2023, which didn’t help with the Reign’s sometimes stagnant attack. Like other Reign attackers, Z is very defensively involved, but needs to show greater attacking output this season.
2023 PREVIEW
Realistic Best Case Scenario
Winning the championship from a top-4 position. The Reign defense is very solid - and as we all know, defense wins championships. With a few well-placed goals, the Reign can head towards the top of the table in the regular season, earn a home game at Lumen Field, and make another run as they did in 2023. In this best-case scenario, the Reign’s aerial attack succeeds at hitting the heads of Balcer and Huitema, Ji and Fishlock confuse opposing defenses, and this season’s international play doesn’t overly disrupt the Reign’s flow.
Realistic Worst Case Scenario
Missing out on the playoffs. While the Reign defense is stout, the offense has doubts. Not scoring enough goals could be a big problem, especially with the wealth of attacking talent brought into the NWSL recently, even our all-star defense may not be enough. Without well-timed goals and enough shutouts, in this scenario the Reign have a middling season marked by a wealth of boring games. 0-0 draws and 1-0 losses would be in abundance in this worst-case scenario. Plus, a few injuries on international duty might hamper the Reign’s creative players if they’re overused - Fishlock loves playing to the max for club and country and missed out on a few games in 2023. If Huerta and McClernon’s service is stopped, this scenario becomes more likely.
Realistic Most Probable Scenario
A low playoff position and early exit. Many predictions around the league have the Reign hanging around the bottom of the playoffs - and it’s understandable why. The Reign are seen as having a great defense and an offense that’s not quite enough. In this scenario, the Reign eke out enough 1-0 wins to make the playoffs but can’t make it past superior playoff teams who’ve spent big on offensive talent.
What to watch this season
There will be three main things to watch this season for the Reign: the vets, the youth, and the formation.
The vets is a pretty obvious one. The Reign’s midfield and defense is stacked with experienced veterans that will be leading the team through the season. Despite losing Rose Lavelle, Emily Sonnett, and Megan Rapinoe, the Reign still have originals Jess Fishlock and Lou Barnes as leading voices, as well as experienced players like Sofia Huerta and recent international addition Ji. Look for this veteran core to help steer the Reign through the ups and downs of a long 2024 season.
The youth, however, may be the more interesting one to watch. There are a number of talented young players on the Reign’s roster, all of whom will have something to prove. Three main players to watch in this group will be Jordyn Huitema (22), Sam Meza (22), and Luany (21). Huitema is coming off her first full season with the Reign, where she was joint top scorer in all competitions with 7 goals. With 4 additional league games, she will be looking to reach double-digits this season. Meza joining the team is likely a play for the future. The notably draft-averse Laura Harvey traded up to get Meza after she dropped into the second round, so clearly the team sees her has a solid bet for the future. Lastly, Luany, the youngest player on the team, is currently on loan with Madrid CFF in Spain. She is playing quite well there, ranking 19th in attack contribution, 9th in chances created, and 5th in assists according to Opta Analyst. Her loan will end in June, and she could play an important role in the team as they manage their minutes in the summer.
Lastly, the formation could be something to watch as well. Laura Harvey has been well known the past few years to rely heavily on a 4-3-3. However, the Reign currently only have 5 forwards listed on the roster, so they may opt to change formations. A 4-2-2-2 or 5-3-2 type formation could work well for the Reign, as it would allow Sofia Huerta to continue pushing high up the wing where she could serve it to aerial threats Huitema and Balcer inside the 18. A formation similar to this was seen in the Reign’s preseason match in Costa Rica, and it could be something the Reign add to their arsenal this season.

2024.03.06 02:56 Call_me-Pussy_Hands I teach high school English and currently have a creative writing course for the first time. I wrote a sample short story for our mystery unit. Can y’all give me feedback? Thanks!

As the rain pattered constantly on the tin roof of his bungalow, Detective Mark Anderson leaned back in his chair, rubbing his hands through his hair, distressed. He was in his early thirties and healthy, but there were dark bags under his eyes as if he had not had a good night’s rest in days. He then sat up straight, shaking his head and taking another sip of his coffee that went cold half an hour ago. He looked down at the files on his desk. Three missing persons cases, three childhood friends, vanished without a trace. His mind couldn't help but drift back to the old days, riding bikes with his buddies through their sleepy mountain town, never imagining they'd end up in this grim situation. It had been two weeks since Tom disappeared. Nine days since Sarah. Five since Emily. It wouldn’t be long before Alex was gone. Something told Mark that he would be last, but he wasn’t sure what exactly that feeling was. Maybe it was just a hunch, but his old partner always said that a detective’s hunch was his greatest weapon. With a heart heavy with pain and worry, Mark dialed Alex's number. The phone rang several times and Mark started to worry. Finally, Alex's voice crackled through the receiver, "Mark? Is everything okay? Did you find them?" Mark's throat tightened as he spoke, "I'm not sure, Alex. No, I don’t know for sure, but I may have a lead. I need to see you." They agreed to meet at Hal’s, a local diner they used to hang out at as kids. As Mark walked in, memories flooded back, but they were quickly overshadowed by the urgency of their situation. "Mark, what's going on?" Alex asked as concern spread across his face. Mark hesitated, unsure of where to begin. "It's about the others—Tom, Sarah, and Emily. They're still missing, Alex. I’m afraid we aren’t going to find them alive, and I’m worried about you. I think…I think it may be our fault." Alex's eyes misted over in apparent sadness, his hands trembling as he reached for his coffee. "I can't believe this is happening….I mean…. What could have happened to them? And how could it be our fault?" Before answering, Mark took a long drink from his black coffee as his mind wandered back to that chilly fall night years ago. The memory of their cruel prank on Ethan, the boy from the wrong side of the tracks, burned in his mind like a scar. "Remember Ethan?" Mark asked, his voice barely a whisper. Alex's brow furrowed, memories flickering across his face. "Of course, how could I forget? We... we weren't kind to him." Mark nodded solemnly. "We humiliated him, Alex. Remember that Halloween party? The one where we all played that prank?" Understanding dawned in Alex's eyes as the memory resurfaced. "Oh God, I remember now. You four convinced him it was a costume party, but it wasn't. He showed up dressed as a vampire, and everyone laughed." Mark winced at the recollection, the guilt weighing heavy on his conscience. "And then when he ran away crying, we followed him…do you remember? He ran into the woods and we kept after him, calling him Sucky Ethan. And then…” “We caught up with him,” Alex whispered gravely. “We didn’t just catch up with him. We tackled him. We spat on him. We tied his cape tight around his head and arms and left him there. It took him hours to wander out of those woods.” Alex averted his eyes from Mark’s gaze. “Do you think… Do you think Ethan has something to do with this? I thought that was all in the past. He forgave us, remember?” “I remember us telling him not to be such a baby. I remember how we told him it was a good survival practice and he should be happy we did it. And I remember how he didn’t talk to us the next five years of school,” Mark said surely, looking straight into Alex’s eyes. “I guess he did hold a grudge through high school. He would scowl at you and Emily as you walked down the hall, holding hands, and he’d talk about Tom and Sarah whenever he’d see them at the movie theater on Fifth.” “I didn’t know you ever talked to Ethan in high school,” Mark responded with a slightly confused look. “Well, we had economics together junior year, but that’s about it. You know I didn’t talk to all that many people in high school in general. Even you four were usually off doing your own thing.” “Yeah, I guess y’all did have that class together. But you must be remembering wrong; you were always tagging along with us, Al.” Mark answered. “Oh yeah, you’re right. I’m sure I am just remembering wrong. Anway, what are we going to do? How do we figure out what happened to them? We need to figure out if it was Ethan…” As they talked more about where Ethan went after high school and whether or not he could have anything to do with this, Mark couldn't shake the hunch that it was him. Alex came around to the idea that it must be Ethan and asked Mark what he would do next. Mark knew he needed to figure this out. He needed to act. Determined to uncover the truth, Mark revisited the scenes of their youth, searching for clues within the nostalgia. At the old abandoned mill, where that Halloween party had been, he found a torn piece of paper, a fragment of a map leading to a secluded spot in the woods. Following the trail, Mark stumbled upon a makeshift grave—three to be exact. The earth was freshly disturbed. He realized this would’ve been right about the spot where they tackled Ethan all those years ago… His heart sank as he realized the truth—they were being hunted by someone from their past, someone seeking revenge for the pain they had inflicted. Mark knew he had to confront Ethan, the only person who knew the whole truth about their cruel prank. He ran back to his Chevy and began driving across town. Ethan had inherited his dad’s hunting cabin on the edge of town when his dad died last spring, so Mark figured it was the best place to look. But when he arrived at Ethan's rundown cabin, he found the door ajar and signs of struggle inside. Heart pounding, Mark searched every inch of the cabin, finding a hidden room filled with newspaper clippings detailing the disappearances of his friends. And in the corner, he found a shrine of sorts, photos of Mark and his friends pinned to the wall, their faces crossed out in red ink. As he began to realize that Ethan must have been planning this for months, Mark heard a creak behind him. He turned to see Alex standing in the doorway, a strange look upon his face. “No, Alex, we have to get out of here. Ethan killed them. They’re buried in the woods and he could be anywhere. We have to leave now!” Mark shouted as he struggled to keep his composure. However, Alex merely smiled and walked into the room. “What are you doing? Come on!” “There’s no need to worry, Mark. Ethan won’t get us,” Alex said calmly. “What…what are you talking about?” “Have you checked the trunk in this room yet?” Alex responded, keeping his calm composure. Mark walked quickly to the trunk in the corner and slowly opened the heavy cedar top. The stench hit him in the face. The unmistakable body of Ethan was there. He had a gash on his head and had been dead for several hours, but it was Ethan. “Oh…oh m-m-m-my God! What happened? Did…d-d-did you do this?” Mark was struggling to form his words and stuttered as he sat down, trying not to puke. “Well of course I did. At least, I killed Ethan. I couldn’t let him have all of the fun, could I?” As the inkling of a truth started to fall over Mark, he jumped up to try to get away. Alex was too fast, though. Before he knew it, Mark had a gun drawn on him, aimed at his chest. “Whoa, whoa, whoa, now. Where do you think you’re going?” “What did you do, Alex?! Why?! They were our friends…Tom, Sarah, Emily…they were our friends.” “They were your friends, Mark. I was always the odd one out. All through high school it was Tom and Sarah. It was you and Emily. You guys would leave me out of everything. That sort of thing takes a toll on a developing brain, don’t ya know? So yeah, I grew a little resentful. I grew maybe a tad obsessive. I thought about you four every day. The four of you. My “friends” who left me high and dry! Well, when my brother died last spring in that hunting accident with Ethan’s dad, I officially had lost everyone I cared about. I decided it was time to act.” “What do you mean, time to act?” Mark asked quietly as he backed against the wall. “Well, I knew that Ethan held that grudge. It wasn’t hard to convince him,” Alex replied in a snarl that bordered on maniacal. “C-c-c-convince him of what?” “Oh looky there! Little Marky’s stutter is back and stronger than ever! Well, Little Marky, it wasn’t hard to convince them that you all ruined his life. I spun my story and he understood that I was the odd one out. I didn’t do anything at all. He did all the dirty work for me. He stalked Tom’s every move. And Sarah’s and Emily’s. He found the right times to strike. He had the hunting rifle, the secluded cabin, the woods. He had it all.” “Th-th-th-that’s c-c-c-crazy! Y-y-your crazy!” Mark shouted in a panic. “I’m only as crazy as you and those damn friends of ours made me! And now I’ve got the perfect set up! There were plenty of people in that diner today. The waitress heard us talking. I was sure to use Ethan’s name when she was refilling our coffees. He had the motive. Me? I just happened to come here looking for you and killed him in self defense. That’s why I was sure to kill him with this flashlight. You see, I was very careful about this all.” “I c-c-can’t believe this. I-I-I-I c-c-can’t even–” Bang.

2024.02.18 17:28 Least-Grapefruit9926 I hate Emily Lacey

since season 1 i knew she was a “take what you can get”, unapologetically conniving woman but man season 3 just does it for me. shes so incredibly selfish, everytime she tries to “help” its either to save her own tail or because she’s feeling guilty and she didnt even go through with it most of the time so that says a lot about her character. plus no way Nance kills Isaac BECAUSE EMILY WAS ABOUT TO BE KILLED and she cant even say thanks, or yknow do anything for her, check up on her etc. She also gets so much shit wrong… I know Hal told her it was Isaac who killed Charlotte during a feud but cmon, he disappeared at the same time as they did & you think it was just those two at the top of the stairs? really? Dont get me started on her snarky comments. People could easily deflate her ego yet here she is, constantly digging her way out her grave & coming for everyone who’s getting their shit together. sorry for the long rant but jeez, Emily is unfathomably self centered. Didnt pay her respects to Charlotte either. i did not think she would be one of my least favorite characters in season 1, just thought I wouldnt enjoy her scenes.

2024.01.11 16:14 draoi22 Mock NWSL Round One Draft

Just for fun as I'm sure trades will make this order quickly outdated. These are just my opinions based on what I think team needs are—so feel free to disagree (nicely). One note: I removed GKs from the needs entirely as no one is going to use their first round pick on a GK, regardless of what they need. Needs just refer to priority needs, not an exhaustive list. The great news about this draft is that the first ~25 picks should all be great and provide multiple choices each pick.

  1. Utah Royals (Need: Attacking Threat): From a Starting XI perspective, Utah is in a pretty good spot, but could really use someone who is going to make something happen. It would be between a 10 and a 9 in terms of most important and largely depends on how Rodriguez uses her midfield. Cluff played mainly as a 6 in Orlando, but was a standout playmaker in the 10 at BYU. I think it's between Bethune and Sentnor, with the other getting picked up next anyway. Knowing that Doms is also on the table and can fill the role Bethune would, and they pick again at 4, I'm going with the best forward in the draft. Pick: Ally Sentnor (UNC)
  2. Bay FC (Needs: Everything): Bay FC needs a lot of things everywhere. Of the players they have on hand, defense is definitely their strongest line. Like Utah, they are missing an attacking threat who can score or assist. A dynamic player who can dribble, shoot, or pass it off. I think they should go with the best 9/10 left on the board which is hands down Bethune (for me), but Doms is the hometown kid who also went to Stanford. Pick: Maya Doms (Stanford)
  3. Chicago Red Stars (Needs: CB): Oh boy. Let's not even get into the trash fire that is the Chicago Red Stars. They are in dire need of a CB (or two) and should clearly be their sole focus. Flynn, Bell, Wesley, and King are the choices so just comes down to subjectivity I think. Bell and King have a little more flexibility to play wide as well as coming off a team that played a three back. Bell is from the Midwest so going with that connection. Pick: Maycee Bell (UNC)
  4. Utah Royals (Need: Attacking Threat): No explanation needed based on the above. Pairing Bethune with Sentnor also sounds terrifying for other teams and easily two pieces to build around for the next decade. Pick: Croix Bethune (USC/UGA)
  5. North Carolina Courage (Need: Goal Scoring Forward, OB): The quest to fill in the Kerolin size hole in North Carolina's offense begins. They should be looking at the best forward on the board which is Turner. The easiest choice of the round. Pick: Reilyn Turner (UCLA)
  6. Racing Louisville (Needs: Winger, CB): Racing's Starting XI in the midfield and across the backline are set. While they could use more CB depth, the glaring need is to upgrade the frontline. They just missed out on Turner which would have been a great piece to pair with DeMelo. Bit of a toss up with some options: Patterson, Podojil, Mozino, Linnehan, Wade-Katoa. Keeping that midwest connection plus a little versatility and going with Podojil (she also just feels like someone Racing would pick, you know?). Pick: Anna Podojil (Arkansas)
  7. Washington Spirit (Needs: CB, 6, LW): The Spirit is seemingly set with a Starting XI, but will the McKeown at CB experiment continue? Let's be honest—she was by no means awful, but she also wasn't extraordinary. I think the Spirit (and Mark Krikorian) grab Flynn as a long-term pairing with Staab, which also allows McKeown to add depth to that frontline. Pick: Laura Flynn (FSU)
  8. Bay FC (Needs: Everything): Bay still needs a lot of things, so anyone's guess here. Wesley played LB her freshman year before moving to a LCB position at Stanford, which means she's providing depth in an additional position. Plus, another homecoming alongside Doms. Pick: Kennedy Wesley (Stanford)
  9. Orlando Pride (Need: 6, 10, CB): Orlando is another team with a Starting XI seemingly locked, especially with some off-season pickups. They actually have good depth in almost every position as well so this pick will most likely be added to that depth. Villacorta won't be back for most of the season, which makes me feel that a 6 should be picked up to help fill that need, but a 10 for the future may be an option. I'm between Dyke and Van Zanten. I'm always in the mind that defense is more important, so going with the CDM over the CAM. Pick: Cori Dyke (PSU)
  10. North Carolina Courage (Need: Goal Scoring Forward, OB): Midfield is set and the signing of St. Georges and the previous pickup of Turner helps fill in the front line. Collins will replace Fox while Kiki Pickett has played on both sides. Johnson is also now 35 and yet to play for the team. So this pickup is most needed most on the backline. Kurtz and Berkely are still quite young so that feels less of an immediate need. I think they'll go with an OB who can play the attacking style Nahas wants to play. Pick: Makenna Morris (Clemson)
  11. Portland Thorns (Need: CB, Winger, 6/8): With Menges gone, Becky close to retirement, and Nally not at the level for starter, I think a young CB to build the backline around will be what the Thorns look to do. King brings versatility to play RB as well as CB. Pick: Savy King (UNC)
  12. San Diego Wave (Need: CB, LB): San Diego only has two centerbacks on the roster: Dahlkemper and Girma. With the looming potential for both to be gone for NT duties, Stoney needs reliable options and luckily can cover both positions with a single pick. Pick: Kate Wiesner (PSU)
  13. Washington Spirit (Needs: CB, 6, LW): Picked up Flynn for that depth already so can now look for the others. The FSU connection is still an option and I think a perfect option for how Spirit say they want to play, especially with their new coach, while providing depth for Sullivan. Other option is Lemos, but again going with the Krikorian influence Pick: Leilani Nesbeth (FSU)
  14. NJ/NY Gotham (Need: LW, CB): Honestly, I hope Gotham gets rid of this pick. Chicago, Seattle, and Houston should all be looking to grab this on draft day. The defending champions are pretty stacked, but could use additional CB and LW depth. Knowing Edmonds, Long, and Freeman can play CB when needed as well Dunn being able to fill in on the wings, I'm going with LW depth. Options are among Patterson, Linnehan, and West—all who played on the left throughout college. West takes up an international slot (I believe) which may make her less interesting as just a depth player. I'm going with the fellow Northeastern-er. Pick: Payton Linnehan (PSU)

Some additional names I would not be surprised to also be picked in the first round: Kiki Van Zanten (Notre Dame), Zoe Burns (USC), Brecken Mozingo (BYU), Avery Patterson (UNC), Hal Hershfelt (Clemson), Emily Moxley (UNC), Ally Lemos (UCLA).

2024.01.01 01:09 dakbailey Recasting Battle Brawlers, an experiment

So, this applies to the English dub of Season 1. If unlimited money was had by Sega of America/SpinMaster, who would they have gotten to voice the Characters? And fix the bloody translation issues too! These voice actors could be dead or alive, so really, this is a better matter of "who could have done it better?"
This list would cover everyone i can think of.
Dan Kuso - remains cast to Scott McCord. I'm really happy with his performance with Dan. Even if the voice is a LITTLE deep for a mid teenager.
Drago - recast to Robert Stack. Don't get me wrong, Jason Deline as Drago kicks fucking ass. But you ever just want Dragos voice with EVEN MORE AUTHORITY? Then you get Robert Fucking Stack.
Runo Misaki - remains cast to Julie Lemieux. This is moreso that I couldn't think of anyone that would give me Runo vibes. I initially wanted to go to Scarlett Pomers here but figured her voice would be a little too deep.
Tigrerra - recast to Nana Visitor. What Tigrerra needs is a strong, commanding voice. Nana Visitor has that and more. Its a voice to get through Runos thick skull.
Marucho Marukura - recast to Nicole de Boer. This one kinda makes me feel weird. Because Nikki de Boer can do it, and do it well. But I didn't think I'd be actually saying it out loud.
Preyas - recast to Danny DeVito. Preyas always gave me that sort of vibe of "so anyway I started blasting" and I love the idea of Danny DeVito to take on Preyas in all of his wackiness.
Julie Heyward - recast to Scarlett Pomers. Just kidding. Pomers fits better for Julie than she does for Runo. A little bit of sass, just like our Julie. And less grating on the ears too!
Gorem - recast to Orson Welles. Sweet Jesus, would there be anyone else to be a gargantuan earthen thing that topples the tallest of bakugan? Orson Welles does big characters well.
Shun Kazami - remains cast to Zachary Bennett. Like Runo's and Dan's, Shun's is too distinctive to find an A-List replacement for.
Skyress - recast to Gates McFadden. She makes a wonderful maternal figure and does a "mom" voice better than anyone else. Thats what Shun needs. After he lost his mom, he needed Skyress.
Alice Gehabich - remains cast to Emilie Barlow. Emilie Barlow is just too Alice to not be Alice.
Hydranoid - recast to Mark Hamill. Hydranoid reminds me a lot of Mark Hamill's Joker, so I thought that joker energy could be taken to Hydranoid.
Masquerade - recast to David Tennant. Nothing further. David Tennant.
Hal-G - recast to Robert Picardo. If he can be a doctor and Robert McNamara, he can be Hal-G. Nuff said.
Naga - recast to Leonard Nimoy. "Would anyone else attempt to fill his shoes?" Sells it all. Love it.
Wavern - recast to Reba McIntyre. This ones out of left field, and since she has a bit of a twang in her voice, it might help serve to provide SOME vocal diversity.
Apollonir - recast to Patrick Stewart. What an absolute pleasure it would be to hear his voice as the leader of the six ancient warriors.
I dont know beyond that. I'm running out of steam. Tell me how wrong I am.

If you’ve seen Mighty Med you know Brooke Sorenson as Chloe is correct.
There are a few things I am concerned about. If I include Milo Mannheim, Meg Donnelly, and Trevor Tordjman, will people think I’m trying to capitalize on ZOMBIES? And if I include Tyrel Jackson Williams, Spencer Boldman, Kelli Berglund, William Brent, and Hal Sparks, will people think I’m trying to capitalize on Lab Rats?

2023.12.27 20:34 Jonah_Cade My 2024 Horror Watchlist

Just some of the horror movies I plan to watch in 2024. I'll consistently update with more titles, updated release dates, new trailers and IMDb links for easy access. This is largely what I'll be using throughout the year, if anyone else wants to save and follow along for themselves.
Movies are listed in order of US release dates if available - official wide theatrical or VOD/streaming. The rest are listed alphabetically (TBA-to be announced).
With the strikes and other delays, it's likely some of them will not be released in 2024, so I will update accordingly.
