Enravel, which presented at the April Innovation Showcase, followed up the presentations with an update and product demo. The company, led by UW mechanical engineer Brian Schowengerdt [former UW & Microvision employee], has developed a laser-based “pico projector” that could be built into mobile electronics like cell phones, digital cameras, and even eye glasses. The 1 mm x 9 mm projector —about the size of a grain of rice—uses “scanning fiber” technology to then scan an image from the device, and project an enlarged image back onto a larger surface, like a wall. The company, which has put most of its resources into developing the projection technology so far, plans to now turn its focus to streamlining the light source modulator to improve image quality.

Linden Rhoads [at the time Vice Provost-IP, Commercialization, Innovation at the University of Washington] introduced this startup by pulling out her iPhone and iPad (yes, one of those) and talking about the devices’ display capabilities. “These are great, these are fun, but they’re going to be so much more fun when there are projectors available for them,” she said. “That day is very, very close at hand.”
Enravel is led by UW mechanical engineer Brian Schowengerdt, an expert in alternative displays, user interfaces, and human visual perception. He co-founded the company in 2009 to commercialize a laser-based “pico projector.” The idea, he says, is to “take a display of iPad size and compress it into the size of an iPhone.” More specifically, to shrink a projector to “the size of a grain of rice” and use it to project on-screen images, video, games, websites, e-mail—you name it—onto any larger surface.
The core technology is a “scanning fiber” projector that uses fiber optics and a vibrating element to scan an image and blow it up, for example, to a size of 17 inches across from just five inches away. A matchbook-size assembly of laser diodes (off the shelf) provides the light source to project the image. You could imagine such a projector might be crammed into a smartphone and used anytime you want a bigger display to interact with, for reading text or watching a video, say.
Enravel has five employees, and its technology was built over the past few years using $8 million in funding for a related endoscopic imaging project (led by Eric Seibel) and $100,000 in grants. The company expects to finish its portable prototype by next month, and to have a standalone product by the end of next year.

The scanning fiber endoscope is an ultrathin and flexible endoscope for the early detection and treatment of cancers within the body. The SFE can be used as a surveillance device with the goal of improving our chances of survival from cancer.
A scanning fiber endoscope is a technology that uses a flexible, small (< 6Fr) peripheral or coronary catheter to provide wide-field, high-quality, full-color, laser-based video imaging. These differences distinguish SFE applications from current imaging approaches such as IVUS and Intracoronary OCT. Applications for the device (which was pending FDA review and approval as of 2017[needs update]), are expected to include medical diagnosis and support in determining interventional treatments such as surgery or biopsy. TALK OF ED AND SH DO NOT READ IF SENSITIVE!!!! recently me and my best friend we will call her Cindy had an argument, of course it was over something dumb and she just said how she doesn't want to talk about it anymore. some background I struggle mentally with the idea of how everyone is better than me at everything and Cindy is the kind of person who always has to win an argument. anyways she ends the argument after I make a good point and I'm still upset over this. so I go onto a secret twt account that she went out of her way to find by key word searching a sc of something funny from my twt account. this isn't the first time me has found one of my secret accounts. Cindy just has this thing of constantly being curious and finding ALL of my secret accounts no matter how hard I try to hide them. so anyways I vented about how I was upset that she was doing her usual if I lose the argument I just don't continue it therefore I'm not wrong kind of thing. of course without my knowledge she sometimes checks my secret twt account without my knowledge and she gets upset of my rant. just the other day I was feeling quite depressed and a lot of self hatred and felt jealous of her so I made a rant on how I was jealous of her love life and how throughout our entire 8 year long friendship everyone prefered talking to her than me examples include how when I made something and we showed it to someone and we told that person I made it they would still assume Cindy made it, or for gym class I would always end up getting picked last out of the two of us, or how the popular girls were nice to her and not me and same with the employers at our job. in the tweet I made I commented wondering why people prefered her over me despite us being very similar bc that's why we are such good friends I personally find us similar in interests and all that kind of stuff. I was jealous of her numerous relationships and how my failed one relationship was a long distance rebound. she saw this as well and took me comparing us to each other as me using her life as "pity points" which was absolutely not my intention. on this secret account I do just so happen to be apart of sh and ed twt and I made a quote twt saying how maybe people will like me more if I was thinner. me and her are around the same weight though she is taller and weighs less than me we are pretty close. she took this comment as a dig at her weight even though in my head it never was ment like that. last night she confronted me on the comments I've made and how upset she was that I would say such stuff and yes it's true I absolutely should've vented my frustrations to someone close to me or maybe just journaled it and not posted about it on twt but it was heat of the moment and I forgot I even posted it the next day. but there have been times where she has vented about me to a person we both mutually hated and we both know how that person also dislikes me which is something I never told her I was upset about, I kinda feel like the only reason we have been friends for so long is simply because I have always just been the person to not confront her about the things she does that upsets me just out of fear of her cutting off our friendship. I have told her about the argument thing and all my other problems but I feel she never remembers that I struggle with these issues. Cindy tells me she wants time apart so she can calm down and for me to work on myself and get help for my sh and ed. the sucky thing is idk if I'm willing to get help, I don't want to get fully into it bc this is already so long but am I the asshole? am I fully in the wrong?

Welcome to May!
We have entered the May flowers portion of spring. There certainly is a lot of pollen, but also a lot of rain where I am—Maryland is bouncing between hot and frigid, and I would say it needs to make up its mind, but…. We all know it won't.
However, I have made up my mind about this month's theme! And Im excited to get to it.
I had a suggestion a few weeks ago to include some sources for crit – I don’t have them ready now, but I will get some stuff together for you guys soon, I swear. I am always open to suggestions <3
Let’s face it: poetry is a strange land for many of us. What makes a poem? Does it have to rhyme? Follow a structure and meter? Does it have to be based in emotion? All these are great questions. Poetry comes in all forms and styles, rhyming and non-rhyming, metered and freeform. Some poems even tell a fictional story, like prose does! Some poems don't use any line breaks at all, and Prose-Poems can be tricky yet effective. I'll give you a nudge here to look into them and maybe try them out. Who knows, maybe a constraint is coming our way.
Each month, I provide you with a simple theme and an additional constraint to inspire you. You have 60 - 350 words to write a poem based on that theme. Poetry is often shorter than prose, so word choice is important. Less words mean each word does more. Be sure to read the entire post before submitting!

If you don't know, chuunbiyou is just a Japanese idiom that translates directly to '8th grade illness'. It is a symptom that people in adolescence tend to go through. Basically, you have grandiose illusions and believe you are destined for glory or some god, or anything like that. It's worthy to note that people (including myself) in this phase tend to impersonate anime characters or fiction. It's a way of thinking that is that typical teenage ambition. I'm pretty sure I've started this phase of my life, since I checked all the boxes here. Since the background knowledge is out of the way, I'll get into how it is with me. I will provide as much information as possible so you can have a better idea of who I am and what this is.
I've always had a very overactive imagination. It's pretty annoying. For example, I'll be watching some show and my brain will constantly be trying to make another story based off of that. It often likes to combine two stories into one and have characters or plot elements play into my own version of the two. It sometimes even combines 3 stories, but that is quite rare. The main thing with my overactive imagination and '8th grade illness' is that my brain tends to make up some huge story and get itself immersed as much as it can with it. I will sometimes pace for up to an hour, just thinking. As you can imagine, it's fairly annoying to live with. I know I do this as an escape from reality since I don't see much that comes from the way things currently are for me. School is not very interesting and I don't feel happy settling down with one career. Basically, my brain wants to live in stories and wants to make reality more like those stories for an unknown reason to me. I've got two big theories about this, the first being that I want to make reality more interesting, and the second being that I want to become a character because I'm not happy with myself. If you have any other ideas as to why I may be doing this, please tell me in the comments.
The main character my brain tries to impersonate is L Lawliet from Death Note. I sit oddly like him and train my knees to be able to do that, I bite my nails, I've begun trying to think logically and be more intelligent to some success, I have a similar posture, I try to crawl like him in the two books, I am now trying to be nocturnal, I've started speaking in a monotone, I've become focused almost entirely on results, and I've overall had less interest in other people and being social. There are mountains of things to it, but those are the biggest things. I've had some benefit from doing this, otherwise I wouldn't continue doing it. As I've already stated, I now am just smarter and more focused on academics. I exercise more specifically to get good knees. There are upsides to this that I am very attracted to.
Obviously, I should stop being off the Earth in my imagination. I have made some efforts towards that with not much success. If you have any ideas for combatting that, do tell me what they are. But then, should I be worried about my impersonation of characters? I have a feeling I should, but at the same time, I want to keep it for its upsides. Summer is coming up, so I'll be bored out of my mind. My normal self wouldn't really suffice for that. I don't know what to do. Anything helps, and thanks for your time.

For example in my home country Cyprus, if one wants to be registered and work as a licensed practitioner they must to choose one of the following four specializations: clinical, school, educational or counselling. If they decide they don't want to spend their years getting degrees on these fields and choose something else (e.g. forensic psychology) they are prevented from exercising their profession by CYPSA (Cyprus Psychological Association).
If one does end up choosing one of the four specializations but chooses to obtain their degree from a different country's university, CYPSA once again does not recognize the degree and requires them to do courses worth 1-2 years at a Cypriot university to cover modules not identical to those of Cyprus' curriculum set by the association.
Why don't you obtain your degree from a Cypriot uni if you want to work in Cyprus then?
It's not that simple. Each of the "top" 3 univeristies in Cyprus only have a very limited number of spots for master's degrees, about 15 per academic year. This means that these universities mostly choose graduates who studied there. To put that into perspective, they are turning down people who already have one or two master's degrees for these master's positions (speaking from experience).
There are thousands of people who are stuck in limbo as they can't obtain the necessary qualifications because of this gatekeeping.
Why don't they allow most if not all specializations to be recognized? Why do they gatekeep the field from so many capable individuals? I don't get it.
Note: Cyprus recognizes master's degrees of the 4 aforementioned specializations obtained in Cypriot unis. Licenses are given to such master's holders without them needing a PhD or other equivalent diploma. However, they mostly are 3 year degrees, full-time.

The age of Hadhrat Aishah Radhiyallāhu Anhā during her marriage with Rasūlullāh Sallallāhu Alaihi Wa Sallam is often highlighted and negatively presented in the context of child marriage. In an attempt to avoid the accusation of child marriage in Islām, some people have adopted an apologetic approach and began distorting the factual situation of Hadhrat Aishah Radhiyallāhu Anhā’s age during marriage. This approach is dangerous and is based on a wrong premise. We have to be bold to claim that child marriage is not prohibited in Islām. However, there are rules that govern the issue to safeguard the interest of the child.
This article is a rebuttal of an essay written by Nilofar Ahmed that was produced in the Dawn newspaper on 17/02/2012. The essay is based on the following incorrect premises:

Historical facts must be correlated with authentic narrations
The writer claims that the misinformation of Aisha Radhiyallāhu Anhā’s age at the time of her marriage being six led to the wrong view that child marriage has sanction of Islām. The second premise is that authentic narrations must correlate with historical facts. Both premises are incorrect. Child marriage is permissible. There is no difference of opinion on this from at least the four main schools of thought, Hanafī, Shafi’ī, Mālikī, and Hambalī. Yes, there are rules that govern child marriage to preserve and protect the interest of the child.

What a betrayal! Woe to these so called scholars!

I can't believe I have to make posts about this crap (I'm sorry for the French). However, I find myself both incensed and incredulous at the manner in which these individuals write about this topic. The assertion that "Allah will defend His Dîn" leaves me astounded. Is it truly your belief, as a supposedly educated individual, a scholar no less, that this dire situation should be left for God to rectify alone? Such a stance reeks of betrayal and hypocrisy, and I must express my profound disgust at the words I am reading. The crux of the issue lies not with God or His religion, but with you, my friend. It is imperative that you repent and publicly acknowledge the absurdity that has infiltrated the pure and perfect religion of God.
It appears that these individuals do not comprehend the pervasiveness of the topic at hand. There is not a single forum post, Instagram reel, or any other form of social media content where Islam is discussed or critiqued, without a comment regarding Aishah's young age during her marriage or the alleged consummation of the marriage when she was nine years old. This is a matter of global concern, with widespread consensus deeming it an abhorrent and reprehensible situation for a child of such tender age to endure. It is highly unlikely that the very Sunni scholars who promote such views would ever entertain the notion of bestowing their own precious nine-year-old child in marriage to a man of fifty years, let alone condone the physical act that could result in severe and lasting mental health repercussions for the child involved.

This Hadith is "Mutawatir" according to Sunni standards of what "Mutawatir" is:

For those unfamiliar with the term "Mutawatir," it is defined as "successive" in the context of Sunnism. A "successive" narration is one that has been conveyed by an overwhelming number of narrators, making it implausible that they could have colluded to propagate a falsehood (according to them). As such, these narrations are accepted by them as indisputably true. To put it simply, a Mutawatir narration is considered to be 100% true in their view, with some even going so far as to deem its denial as grounds for expulsion from the fold of Islam.

I feel immense disgust at even having to write such a sentence and must ask for God's forgiveness.
These self-proclaimed scholars were likely unaware of this Mutawatir narration, and thus, they did not bother to mention it. To do so would have cast a negative light on the prophet and made him appear hypocritical in his views on child marriage. The absurdity of the situation is evident, dear Sunni brothers. In this modern age, where information is readily available, and all of your Hadiths have been brought to light, it is clear that they are being exposed for what they are: fabrications that likely originated from ancient Arab rabbis with the intent to undermine Islam from within.
It is highly improbable that one of the prophet's wives would have made such a ridiculous statement, even if we were to entertain the notion that the consummation of the marriage did occur at such a young age. She would never have said,

"...when I was nine, and I used to play with dolls."

This statement could only have been made by an enemy of God, an enemy of the Noble Quran. The purpose of those words was to prevent gullible Hadith followers from denying that she was a child at the time of consummation. A woman does not play with dolls; therefore, she was a young child. If that detail had been omitted, Sunnis could have at least argued that she matured at a very young age, although that would also have been highly unlikely and untrue.

• How old are you? What's your gender? Give us a general description of yourself.
I am a 27 years old trans man. I have been socially transitioning for nearly 4 years and medically transitioning for 7 months. I’ve uprooted my life in more ways than one and it’s by far been one of the best decisions I’ve made.
• Is there a medical diagnosis that may impact your mental stability somehow?
I have been struggling with depression and anxiety on and off since my adolescence and probably have ADHD or autism as well.
• Describe your upbringing. Did it have any kind of religious or structured influence? How did you respond to it?
I’m an only child. My mum’s always been something of a fire-cracker and has struggled with alcoholism and emotional abuse from her mum. She always had very high expectations of me and she’s probably part of the reason why I have such unreasonable expectations for myself. My dad is a lot more chill even if he doesn’t get me 100 percent of the time. Ultimately, I think they tried their best. My parents aren’t particularly religious but I went to a Catholic school until I was nine. I never really bought into it and it was a relatively chill school but it probably affected me in some way.
• What do you do as a job or as a career (if you have one)? Do you like it? Why or why not?
I honestly haven’t been able to hold down a stable job at all. After getting a pretty useless degree, my jobs have all been crappy and short-lived and I never really figured out what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to be a writer or an artist but I have a near permanent case of creative burnout. I’m a part-time zookeeping student right now.
• If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, how would you feel? Would you feel lonely or refreshed?
It depends. If I’ve had a busy week I’ll welcome the peace and quiet. If things have been quiet I’ll get bored and a bit lonely.
• What kinds of activities do you prefer? Do you like, and are you good at sports? Do you enjoy any other outdoor or indoor activities?
I have a mixture of indoor and outdoor hobbies. I like gaming, especially RPGs, builders, and dumb shooters. I also enjoy card games and board games and I’ve recently started picking up chess. I like watching movies and anime, particularly horror and action. I used to read a lot of fiction but I find myself too distracted these days. If I do read it’s usually nonfiction about a topic I’m interested in or academic works.
In terms of outdoor hobbies, I’m only just opening up to them as I’ve been a particularly notorious shut-in for a lot of my life. I enjoy nature walks, working out, bouldering, gardening, and swimming. I’m not amazing at sports but I wouldn’t say I’m completely useless either. I prefer more solitary activities to team based ones. I have a bit of a competitive streak and exercise helps keep it in check.
• How curious are you? Do you have more ideas then you can execute? What are your curiosities about? What are your ideas about - is it environmental or conceptual, and can you please elaborate?
Very curious. I usually have a couple of ideas on the go but I wouldn’t say I’m overflowing with them. My curiosities are usually about the natural world, video game lore, and new hobbies I may want to take up.
• Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it? What would your leadership style be?
I could be an okay leader if no one else was able to take up the position but I would be anxious about the responsibility and expectations others have of me. I’d like to think I’m firm but fair.
• Are you coordinated? Why do you feel as if you are or are not? Do you enjoy working with your hands in some form? Describe your activity?
I’m okay. I can match other people’s movements quite well. I can get a little bit careless and clumsy when I’m distracted or anxious though.
• Are you artistic? If yes, describe your art? If you are not particular artistic but can appreciate art please likewise describe what forums of art you enjoy. Please explain your answer.
Back when I used to draw, I drew a lot of tattoo designs and illustrations. Like something you’d find on an album cover or a book cover. I also drew many of the creatures and characters I wrote about. I’m have an eye for colour and I am drawn to art-deco and art-nouveau aesthetics.
• What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you deal with them?
The past, while not always easy to revisit due to fuzzy memories or trauma, has led me to this very moment. I try to take every day as it comes and that has helped me a lot. I am nervous for the future as I have few concrete plans and life may throw me a curve ball. But I am also excited to see what has in store for me.
• How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?
It depends who’s asking and what they want help with.
• Do you need logical consistency in your life?
Absolutely.
• How important is efficiency and productivity to you?
Efficiency is pretty good. Work smarter, not harder and all that. Productivity less so. I’m just happy when I get things done.
• Do you control others, even if indirectly? How and why do you do that?
Not really. Unless they are negatively impacting me or other people I prefer to leave people to their own devices.
• What are your hobbies? Why do you like them?
Pretty sure I already answered this question.
• What is your learning style? What kind of learning environments do you struggle with most? Why do you like/struggle with these learning styles? Do you prefer classes involving memorization, logic, creativity, or your physical senses?
I’m a visual and hands-on learner. I suck at internalising verbal instruction. I despise overly rigid learning environments so I struggled a lot in school. I enjoy learning at my own pace and by going out and doing things first-hand.
• How good are you at strategizing? Do you easily break up projects into manageable tasks? Or do you have a tendency to wing projects and improvise as you go?
Improvise but I try to make a basic structure that I may or may not deviate from.
• What are your aspirations in life, professionally and personally?
To be the best version of myself I can be and live the most fulfilling and rich life I can.
• What are your fears? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you hate? Why?
My two biggest fears are quite abstract and they are being aimless and being trapped. I’m also mildly agoraphobic and afraid of wasps. I hate wilful ignorance and bigotry, especially when those things actively make the world a worse place for everyone.
• What do the "highs" in your life look like?
I feel alive, happy, and a zest for life. I feel like I’m running on a motor and that I can do anything I want.
• What do the "lows" in your life look like?
When I feel low, I get in a funk and it’s very hard to get out. I literally find it impossible to relax unless someone is there to get me out of my head. If I’m not careful I can get isolated. And that’s when I start to spiral.
• How attached are you to reality? Do you daydream often, or do you pay attention to what's around you? If you do daydream, are you aware of your surroundings while you do so?
Sometimes I let my mind wander, particularly when I’m listening to music. It doesn’t take much to bring me back to reality though.
• Imagine you are alone in a blank, empty room. There is nothing for you to do and no one to talk to. What do you think about?
I’d probably go a bit mad and try to devise an escape plan.
• How long do you take to make an important decision? And do you change your mind once you've made it?
I like to take my time to weigh out the pros and cons. I make stupid decisions when I’m rushed. I may change my mind if circumstances change and it’s not going to inconvenience me too much.
• How long do you take to process your emotions? How important are emotions in your life?
A long time. My emotions are a mess and I barely know what I am feeling half the time. Journaling has helped me make sense of them and processing them to a degree.
• Do you ever catch yourself agreeing with others just to appease them and keep the conversation going? How often? Why?
Not really. I either stay quiet or try to disagree with them in a productive way depending on how bold I’m feeling at the time.
• Do you break rules often? Do you think authority should be challenged, or that they know better? If you do break rules, why?
I follow rules if they are there for a good reason. Like waiting in line. If they’re stupid rules I have less qualms about breaking them.

I am currently a postdoc and have a good chance of being offered a TT position in my field at a SLAC in a small rural town. To give some more context about the position, the TT position is a hire for a new Department that is being built, and the position itself has a couple million dollar research endowment from public/private donors to support the research program. There is also a possibility of a 5 year renewal in endowment. During the job talk I met with faculty who were incredibly nice and extremely supportive of my vision and research goals. This opportunity presents an immense possibility to grow my research and impact national policy. While I was on the campus, I lit up because the university is gorgeous, and the staff were so incredible. However, when I stepped off campus into the small town (btw, you can walk the length of the main street in 5 mins), my heart sank as it was quite depressing. I currently live in a very large city and have a wonderful life here that my family and I enjoy. I have only ever lived in very large cities and have received my education from top ranked R1 institutions in large cities. I am also a visible minority and while this university town is definitely open minded, I still felt an awareness of my minority positionality amongst a predominately white population.
After visiting, I am having second thoughts about taking the job if it is offered to me due to how it will impact my family life. My husband is not an academic, but is/was supportive of me applying, and seems to be open to exploring the idea of moving. To be honest, we both didn't know if I would even get to this final stage. If the job is offered, we will visit the town as a family to ensure we make a sound decision. But here is the problem, while we both say we are open to moving, and welcome the opportunity, our hearts are saying no. We really love our life in our current city, but there aren't many opportunities available in my field for future growth. I have been ambitious about my professional career, but as we have a young family, my priorities have shifted. I list some pros/cons of the position below:
PROS

• AMAZING tenure track position with endowment for 5 years, and promise of endowment for an additional 5 years
• a career move that will launch my career
• close to nature (we do like to hike and go camping)
• quiet, slow-paced life (2000 people live in this town. I come from a city of 6 million people)
• pension and health insurance
• tight-knit community

CONS

• far away from both our families (requires multiple flights to reach our families and 4 hour drive to closest airport)
• limited cultural, social activities
• husband would be completely isolated in wfh job
• car dependency (we currently walk or bike everywhere)
• no daycare spots but in-home private daycare could be available(we currently have an amazing daycare that is extremely affordable and bi-lingual)
• no access to healthcare/Drs (there is a 6-8 year wait for a family Dr. and the only walk-in clinic in the town closed during the pandemic and didnt re-open. There is one small hospital in the town that often closes after 8pm, and the next closest hospital is 2 hours away. We currently have a family Dr and paediatrician in our current city after being on a wait-list for 5 years)
• lack of ethnic diversity to socialize our children
• lack of conveniences (closest Costco is 3 hours away for example).

I have a good feeling I am the top contender for this job and it will be offered to me very soon. Yet, my head (which says take the job and launch your career), is on the opposite page with my heart and body (which says, this is not a good fit for your family). I am wondering if I have failed to consider other things that can help me with the decision making.

I cannot remember a single time i was jealous of anyone or wanted someone to not have something because i wanted it. For example: I was very much in love with someone, Person A. A did not know my feelings. Person A started seeing a friend of mine romantically, Person B. As we were all in a big friend group, I had to see A and B flirt and kiss and talk about eachother, and I literally didn’t mind. I loved A, and thought to myself, i’m happy A is happy, even if it’s with B and not me. This “never feeling jealous” is quite ubiquitous and goes beyond romance: i have never been jealous of a friend who has succeeded well beyond me or gotten an academic/work position I wanted. I just feel happy for them.

I’ve been a pretty solid Far Cry fan all the way back when 3 was released. I’ve played 3, 4, 5, Primal, new Dawn, and now I’m giving Far Cry 6 another chance after giving up on it 20% of the way through my first playthrough.
I’m by no means saying Far Cry 6 is the best of the franchise or even what I would consider a “great” game. But I think the community hates on the game a little too much. I’ve seen so many reviews and videos on YouTube all talking about the same criticisms and I just wanted to defend a couple of the popular criticisms that I’ve seen come up a few times.
Criticism 1: The Skill tree being clothing
I understand this complaint. It’s the first time in a far cry game you can’t build a walking tank based off perks. I understand it’s a pain to only have 4 temporary perks at a time rather than leveling up and building out a tree. However, after playing the game for a couple weeks now, I kinda respect the decision. You gotta be strategic on what clothes you wear and your outfits change depending on what situation you’re in. And honestly, if you don’t like the style your character is wearing but want the perk, you can always change what it looks like without altering the perks.
Criticism 2: the world feels empty
The world itself isn’t like a barren wasteland, there’s forts, checkpoints, structures with chests inside, camps. If you’re talking about enemies on the side of the road, yes it’s extremely empty and this is my major gripe with the game so far. Far cry 3 you had enemies everywhere until you captured the outposts around the area. Far cry 4 they were everywhere, Far Cry 5 they were everywhere a little too much. In Far Cry 6, they mention the army you’re facing has 300,000 soldiers. So far I’m only about 30% of the way through but I’m seeing a trend I’m only going to see maybe 10% of that army. Checkpoints have 3 soldiers, anti air weapons are practically not guarded at all. There’s maybe 1 soldier per 200 meters on the road. It’s honestly the emptiest Far Cry by far in terms of enemies. Checkpoints should have at least 5-6 soldiers, forts should have 10, anti airs should have 5-10.
Criticism 3: The game is too easy. You can headshot everyone and it’s an insta kill
I mean… yeah, that’s kinda the whole point of being shot in the head. I’ve seen people criticize the enemies for being to spongy and also criticize the game for being easy because all you gotta do is shoot em in the head. You can’t really have both. I don’t see a problem with this, what would you rather have? 3 head shots? Then they’d complain about that too.
Criticism 4: The game is too easy
I’ve seen this with this game. Right from the beginning of the game you have access to a car with a machine gun and full ammo at any time you want. Ammo rarely becomes a factor as you seem to find it everywhere, you can change your entire gun setup in the menu except for adding attachments. I get it, you can cheese the hell out of this game. My argument to that is, the beauty of this game is you can play the game how you want to play it like a true sandbox. If you want to be easy, hit only headshots and change your loadouts in the menu.
Personally I wanted it to be a bit more challenging so I’ve been playing this game how I played any Far Cry in the past, I set up my loadout at a bench and I don’t touch the loadout until I reach another bench. I never call the car unless I’m in an emergency with ammo or I’m really lazy and don’t want to find a car at that specific time and my distance to walk is more than like 500 meters. I’ve had no problems making the game more challenging for myself so the new mechanics haven’t been an issue for me.
Criticism 5: The game has no variety
I can see this too. After a while playing, the game has started to feel a tiny bit repetitive. They could’ve easily made the enemy locations like Checkpoints, Bases, and Anti Air locations way better. For example with the Anti Air guns, rather than have them be guarded by maybe 2 soldiers, they could’ve given these places objectives like “find the key to the control room from a lieutenant, shut down the power in the control room, overload the gun” or something. Rather than being able to take out an entire AA gun with one grenade and a pistol.
Overall thoughts:
The game isn’t perfect as there are definitely real critiques with this game and fair arguments to say it’s not the strongest in the series. But overall it’s not a bad game. I’ve always had a problem with voice acting in Ubisoft games lately, I’ve felt like they’ve been lazy and weak especially when it comes to the NPC’s (I’m looking at you Far Cry 5). Far Cry 6, in my opinion, has some really strong voice actors for the main characters, the female Dani is done very well, and the NPC’s aren’t perfect but they’re a step up from previous games.
The game is really fun and I find myself cruising through 4 hours before I even know it. The story isn’t the best. It’s definitely no Red Dead 2. But honestly it’s interesting enough and the game is fun enough that I’m having a pretty good time playing. Not to mention the game looks gorgeous and feels absolutely fantastic.
Definitely overhated, I give it a B-B+ overall.
Edit: I just realized 3 and 4 are the exact same thing. I’m just ranting my ideas down, not going for Post of the Year lol
