Last Week in Collapse: May 5-11, 2024
This is Last Week in Collapse, a weekly newsletter compiling some of the most important, timely, useful, soul-crushing, ironic, stunning, exhausting, or otherwise must-see/can’t-look-away moments in Collapse.
This is the 124th newsletter. You can find the April 28-May 4 edition here if you missed it last week. You can also receive these posts (with images) every Sunday in your email inbox with Substack.
——————————
Earth experienced its largest CO2 concentration increase over a 12-month period, scientists say, from March 2023-2024. It was a jump of 4.7ppm more of carbon dioxide, blamed on deforestation, fossil fuels, and El Niño. Experts are saying that El Niño has peaked, and will transition to La Niña within a few months. La Niña lasts about 1-3 years, and it generally cools the Pacific Ocean, and brings more rain to India & Bangladesh, among other changes. Earth also experienced its greatest atmospheric moisture for the month of April.
Venezuela has lost its last glacier, the Humboldt, which was reclassified into an “ice field.” It is the first modern nation to lose all its glaciers. Scientists believe Indonesia, Mexico, and Slovenia are next in line to see the extinction of their glaciers. Colombia is also rapidly losing its remaining 6 glaciers.
Wildfires in Chile have killed about a hundred people, and injured & displaced thousands. Flooding in Afghanistan. And climate change is ruining cotton crops, and livestock, in Chad. Plus, flooding struck the DRC, overflowing rivers and latrines—affecting some 500,000 people. And some climatologists think we have been underestimating how much climate change is driving greater rainfall & flooding; the worst is yet to come.
The first week of May saw so many temperature records broken; some are claiming that it might be the “most record breaking month in climatic history”—until June, that is. Earth has been seeing 13 months of monthly records being broken for global sea surface temperatures. Literally 365 days of record-breaking ocean temperatures.
A study in PNAS examined North Pacific “warm blob” heat waves from 2010-2020, and concluded that China’s reduction in aerosols, which cleaned the air but also removed the sun-reflective particles, incidentally probably caused marine heat waves which killed fish and resulted in algae blooms.
Bees are having difficulty acclimatizing their nests to rising temperatures. The dugong, while still rarely seen in parts of the world, has been declared extinct inside China, having gone 24 years without a known sighting. In Florida, the suburbification of land under development is pushing the Florida panther closer to extinction; some 100 panthers remain in the sunshine state.
Siberia’s Batagaika crater—I prefer its alternative title, “megaslump”—is expanding by about 1M cubic meters, every year. Scientists naturally blame the rapid permafrost melting on climate change.
A cruise ship entered New York City with an endangered 44 ft {13.4m} dead sea whale stuck on its bow (front). Investigators are looking into whether it was already dead when the ship hit it. A study in Conservation Letters looked at the 100 largest Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)—which cover 7.3% of all ocean area—and found that almost 60% of this area is not in range of meeting the 2030 preservation goals.
Part of India broke May records already; the Maldives, too. Eastern Ukraine ended a far warmer & wetter April than usual. And a heat wave in Mexico scorched previous May temperature records across 10 cities, as well as small regional blackouts. North America felt its all-time hottest May temperature...

AstraZeneca is pulling its COVID vaccine from the EU over a rare blood clooting side effect. Nevertheless, some experts claim that vaccine saved over 6M lives. Whatever U.S. CDC data on COVID is still available points to “a small rise” in cases later this summer, mostly from the growing KP.2 “FLiRT” variant.
COVID patients and immunocompromised individuals are still using lots of healthcare resources, and the rise of resistant superbugs is developing alarmingly fast. According to the article, “It only takes about a year on average for bacteria to grow resistant to treatment, when they used to take 21 years to evolve back in the 1960s.”
Engineers and medical professionals remain concerned about nanoplastics, between 1-1,000 nanometers wide. One grain of sand is about 500,000 nanometers, and one strand of DNA is about 2.5 nanometers. A single wavelength of light ranges from 400-700 nanometers.
South Africa’s water shortage is projected to worsen through at least 2025. Nairobi’s water shortage continues, despite the city’s dams being filled with floodwater. Costa Rica is facing a Drought so bad it’s rationing electricity. Mexico City—the second-most-populous city (by metro area: 21.8M; São Paolo is #1, at 22M) in North America— is seeing more than 20% of freshwater sources exhausted, and rationing is not enough. It’s almost like we’re living at unsustainable levels of consumption…
As Latin America warms (and suffers flooding), disease is becoming more common—as well as heat stroke & serious hunger. Benin is refusing Niger the permission to use its port to export oil, as a result of a border dispute.
A paywalled study in Nature Water tested a new method for removing PFAS foam particles in water, with “near-complete destruction of PFAS in various water samples contaminated by the foams.” The process involves “ultra-violet (UV) light, sulfite, and a process called electrochemical oxidation” and does not require heat or high pressure. The number of U.S. states phasing out PFAS is growing.
As forcible repatriations of thousands of Afghans continue, millions of Afghans are suffering from lack of humanitarian aid—aggravated by recent deadly flash floods in the beleaguered, landlocked, failed state.
Yeasty superfungus Candida Auris infections were detected in 77 cases in Germany last year, authorities say. Candida Auris was only identified 15 years ago, but its three separate genetic variants (each on a different continent) have stealthily and stubbornly grown to pose a stealth threat to humankind. It is incredibly resistant to antifungal drugs, and it survives at higher temperatures than most other fungi. The WHO has listed it on a shortlist of top fungal pathogen dangers.
3 cats died from H5N1 in the United States last week. Some health professionals are getting more worried about a future H5N1 jump to become human-to-human transmissible, and claim that we are not ready as a species. Experts say we are not doing enough testing, and may already be in the prologue of a much more devastating pandemic. Scientists still say it is unlikely that a strain will make the critical mutation necessary, but the similarities between human and cow (and other mammal) flu receptors present potential complications.
The world is supposedly being divided into three general trade blocs: U.S., China, and the non-aligned states. For better or worse, globalization is crumbling, and governments are imposing tariffs, attempting to reshore industries, and restructure debt & credit flows. What will happen when the people, long-trained to expect high returns, find their profits wanting?

Two camps for internally displaced people near Goma, DRC were bombed, killing 12+ and injuring 20+. The perpetrators and their motives are unclear.
Rising crime. Drinking water. Closing the Darien Gap. These were the issues propelling Panama’s president-elect to a victory last Sunday. The arrival of rain is also improving conditions on the Drought-choken Panama Canal, expected to return to normal for at least a month or two.
A wave of Chinese espionage, much of it several years old, is sweeping Europe. Of particular concern is a hack of British military personnel information uncovered on Tuesday—which China denies. Similar espionage against the U.S. has reportedly cost the economy hundreds of billions per year.
Kenya’s mission to stabilize Haiti is inching forward slowly. The Pentagon has ordered its 1,000 troops to leave Niger. At least one Saudi villager was killed to make room for The Line, and reports claim Saudi forces have been given the green light to clear other people who get in the way of the development. Germany’s Defence Ministry is seriously considering recommending conscription for its 18-year olds later this summer.
Displacement in Myanmar has spiked over the past six months—and now counts 3M+ people since the February 2021 coup which sparked more open resistance.
Tunisia ejected ~400 migrants into Libya. Kazakhstan is expelling Tajik migrants in far-ranging sweeps. In Lebanon, vigilante attacks against Syrians have become more common. Mauritania is conducting military drills along part of its border with Mali, after reports emerged of Malian soldiers attacking border settlements.
In Sudan, over 200 witnesses corroborated reports of a massacre last June, where RSF insurgents piled up and shot” at least 17 people, most of whom were children. A lengthy report from Human Rights Watch, complete with timelines, testimony, war crimes, and other horrors from Sudan is over 150 pages. I did not have the fortitude to skim much of it.
A Hamas attack on Sunday, which killed 4 Israeli soldiers, reportedly pushed the Rafah invasion ahead of schedule. The IDF took over the Egypt-Gaza border, and is scaling up operations in southern Gaza. In response, the U.S. paused arms transfers to Israel. Any chance of a ceasefire, if there was ever really a credible chance, will have to wait. Diarrhea is soaring in Gaza, due in large part to a critical water shortage, caused by the destruction of wastewater treatment plants, the damage to water infrastructure, and large-scale displacement. A new evacuation order has commanded over 1M people in Gaza to leave before a more comprehensive invasion of Rafah begins.
A day after President Putin was inaugurated for his fifth term, he ordered a wide strike at Ukrainian infrastructure across seven oblasts. Most of the missiles and drones were shot down. And another plot to assassinate Zelenskyy was foiled. Lithuania is considering sending military trainers into Ukraine. Putin announced that Russian forces would target Western soldiers deployed in Ukraine, and begin drills simulating nuclear weapons if Britain’s involvement grows. Already, Belarus conducted a military drill with missiles & planes capable of using nukes.
In addition to extending Ukraine’s mobilization by another 90 days, the government has also allowing some convicts to fight on the battlefield in exchange for reduced sentences. Poland is allegedly considering repatriating thousands of draft-eligible Ukrainian men, and Germany is emphasizing the need for Ukrainian refugees to work.
Japan is boosting investment in a hypersonic missile interceptor project with the United States. A large-scale Russian offensive has begun across the front-lines, particularly around Kharkiv. And Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is beginning talk of a “genocide” in Moldova, which could provide the pretext for another special military operation in Transnistria—and perhaps beyond.
——————————
Things to watch out for next week include:
↠ The IDMC is releasing their 2024 report on Internally Displaced People (IDPs) on Tuesday, with estimates for total figures by nation & region.
Select comments/threads from the subreddit last week suggest:
-High temperatures are going to ruin food—and a lot of people’s health. This thread about the contamination of bánh mi in Vietnam sheds some light on the interconnectivity of our problems. Add in some heat wave-induced power outages, loose government regulation, and hospital problems, and you can imagine how this slow-moving disaster can cripple a community.
-“Microforests” may help mitigate some of the effects of ecosystem collapse and desertification—as well as boosting your property value, judging by this thread and its comments.
-One Collapsenik published a free ebook & audiobook satirizing American Collapse—and I’m not just linking because this newsletter was apparently a source of Doom inspiration. If you write an 80,000 word novel about Collapse, featuring some 300 references, I’ll share it too. Maybe one day I’ll have the time to write one…
Got any feedback, questions, comments, complaints, upvotes, movie recommendations, good off-grid land deals, locust broth, etc.? Check out the Last Week in Collapse SubStack if you don’t want to check collapse every Sunday, you can receive this newsletter sent to your (or someone else’s) email inbox every weekend. What did I forget this week?

2024.05.05 19:01 Carew1270 Louisville is losing population while suburban counties grow. Can the city reverse course?

From the Courier Journal:
New estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show a 1.4% decline — just under 11,000 people — in Jefferson County's population between April 2020 and July 2023. And while the number might seem small, it represents a sizeable dent when considering the county added about 42,000 people between 2010 and 2020.
But while Louisville's regional peer cities have also seen dips in their populations, the Derby City has lost residents to outmigration at a faster pace, according to a Courier Journal analysis.
At the same time, the 12-county metro area's overall population has stagnated, rising just 0.3% since 2020.
Here's a version that's not behind the paywall:

2024.05.05 11:46 IndustryMountain Guess my birth year

• born before 9/11 and year 2k but have no recollection of them
• saw a time when there was a change from dial up to wireless internet
• got my first smartphone in 2009 and it was the Nokia xpressmusic 5800 but I remember playing the snake game on my parents’ old Nokia phones when I was very young, maybe under age 10? I remember we used numbered buttons to send texts to people and there was no touchpad.
• I grew up playing space cadet pinball
• had msn from 2009 onwards and this was around the time I made my first Facebook account. I was regularly active on both after school.
• grew up watching Dexter’s laboratory, powerpuff girls, catdog, SpongeBob, fairly odd parents, rugrats in the early/mid 2000s
• Watched icarly, zoe 101, Hannah Montana, wizards of waverly place, the suite life of Zac and Cody in the late 2000s to early 2010s. Also watched 90210 and one tree hill around 2009-2010.
• I remember high school musical was really popular growing up before I went to secondary school even, in my later childhood years; I was maybe around 9 or 10 when it became popular?
• In 2012 I made my first Instagram account and this was around the time I also got Snapchat (either in 2012 or 2013)
• I remember using video cassettes when I was very young but also remember when there was a switch to using CDs
• I remember getting my first iPad in 2010
• I remember using limewire to download music onto my PC
• In my secondary school (middle school/high school??) it was very popular to wear Hollister, Abercrombie and fitch clothes and also leggings with Ugg boots
• I remember being a twilight fan in school because it was “cool” back in my time.
• When I was in school, it was very popular to shave off most of your eyebrows and then draw them back on with an eyebrow pencil
• Finding nemo and brother bear were my most favourite Disney movies as a kid, I remember later on going to watch frozen with my friends as a teenager and didn’t like it as much compared to early Disney movies.
• Sending chain mail to eachother was really popular in 2009/2010
• 2000s kid and a true 2010’s teenager.
• I also remember making one of those scooby bracelets in primary school, it was a big thing in the UK (I don’t know if it was even a thing in the US) but id make those bracelets and gift them to friends.

2024.04.29 00:51 wiggerboy69 FULL BONES DISCOG (2010-2024) (best one out there)

I made this for the SESH fans that are somewhat newer, and don't know that many songs, or only know the more popular songs. But if you're a long time sesher I bet you'll find some stuff you've never heard in here too, I certainly did.
I may be missing some features that happened in 2010-2013. There's a strangely small amount that I could find. But I might've gotten them all.
This took me 2 and a half hours. Hope you guys enjoy.

2024.04.17 08:30 ForPOTUS Blockchain and social media

I'm wondering: are there any Web3 projects out there that can or seek to consolidate communications from several social media platforms into a singular portal? Like how an email address may serve as the receiving point for all of one's social media notifications, except with a Dapp (registered to your wallet address) that enables you to interact with your numerous social media interactions from different platforms minus the need to open that social media app and complete the function insite. I don't see why this isn't possible with blockchain technology, heck, I'm sure that it can be done with Web2 tech but SM corporations won't make it simple since widescale adoption would kill their advertising-driven business model.
This is basically a more extensive RSS feed for social media. It seems weird to look to blockchain technology to help centralize communication, but I am all for it. Up until like, 2010, the main ways everyone spoke with each other online were via: - MSN Messenger - Email - iMessage or Blackberry Messenger - Facebook
Today, communication has now been decentralized across dozens (or more for some) of different apps and websites and it's becoming overwhelming. There are just too many tabs and apps to keep up with and constantly monitor, it's all becoming oversaturated and our attention and energy is becoming so thinly spread.
There is a such thing as too much decentralization. And what about Web3's ability to allow us to decouple from the Mainstream? The fact that Web3 models that promote data sovereignty and consolidation is possible is mindblowing and transformative.
Who else is talking about this and engaging with it?

2024.04.16 05:40 PyroIsSpai I found a curious bit in this Air Force volume authored by Jeffrey M. Reilly that inexplicably ties into constellation names out of nowhere and nation-states we haven't heard of, and that ties into NATO materials from Sweden.

I found a curious bit in this Air Force volume authored by Jeffrey M. Reilly:
"Dr. Reilly is a retired Army officer with 26 years of active-duty service. He began his service as a draftee and served 28 consecutive months in Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. His theater-level planning and operations experience includes serving as a theaterlevel combined and joint operations officer, Plans division chief, and member of the “two major theater war” plans team. He is an adjunct faculty member for the NATO School’s Operational Planning Course, a frequent speaker at the USAF Weapons Instructor Course, and a member of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s Military Education Coordination Council Working Group. Dr. Reilly has also given a number of presentations at international defense colleges, including the Ethiopian Defense Staff College in Addis Ababa and the Polish National Defense University in Warsaw. Additionally, he conducted research on design in Afghanistan during 2010 and 2011. He currently serves as director of joint education at the Air Command and Staff College."
The entire work is a good read and not UFO/UAP specific, except... this bit on page 12, labeled "Figure 3. Mapping actor relationships and systemic links" has some curious and not-repeated terminology.
Imgur link:
https://i.imgur.com/BYekHvH.png
Notice the names? From top right, clockwise:
  1. Dacro - Draco?
  2. Vulpecula
  3. Delphi
  4. BLA - no direct astronomy link I know of; acronym? Batari Liberation Army is mentioned later. Odd rabbit holes on Swedish NATO: one, two. These acronyms appear here overlaid on world maps with unique not-real borders and new names? Archive 1, [Archive 2.] This is the Swedish Armed Forces site.(https://pdfhost.io/v/08qV8Vo6x_zoranseacrisisswedintmay)
  5. MO - acronym?
  6. M3 - Messier 3
  7. Delphi
  8. Cetus
  9. Corvus
  10. Batari - no clear hits; Batari, Chhattisgarh?
  11. Perseus
  12. Auriga
  13. Aquila
  14. Saggita
What caught my eye was the constellation names, in this material, is the weird way that the author uses constellations for MOST objects in this otherwise complex but seemingly prosaic document for the Air Force, and then it never comes up again with the constellation names. If you're going to use that for a placeholdeexample, why only do some, and not others? It's a weird incongruity there. Check out page 52 as well.
Possibly nothing but a curiosity, but every piece of data may have value to someone else doing research.
One funny thought that crossed my mind: if NATO and other key "ally" states of the USA are involved to various degrees to communicate about a covered-up topic, like UFOs/NHI, they likely WOULD need to communicate some materials in writing, knowing full well the risks of leak.
You could get around that with low-level obfuscation. It's not NHI, it's some other adjective/descriptor, and so on. There theoretically could be materials hiding in plain sight of extreme value, even possibly released in error.
Or, it's nothing. Anyone have any idea?

2024.04.15 18:41 Zeddblidd Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983)

2024-134 / Zedd MAP: 86.37 / MLZ MAP: 87.18 / Score Gap: 0.81
Wikipedia?wprov=sfti1#Plot) / IMDb / Official Trailer / Our Collection
We are a movie collecting machine - proof positive, when push comes to shove, we’ll innovate in order to double down. Nothing good lies below here - you’ve got the MAPs, what more do you really need? Past the description is just a bunch of sad, hard truths, me working out why I’ll double down on collecting, and the evidence of what a mistake that likely will be. You’ve been warned - stop here and just look for the next post, coming soon.
From IMDb: In a small American town, a diabolical circus and its demonic proprietor prey on the townsfolk.
During the dark days of the pandemic, whose memory runs like tectonic plates - a craggy scar delineating the space between the what was from the what came to be - Mrs. Lady Zedd and I watched in horror as, for the first time in our lives, communities utterly failed to pull together to confront a crisis. The polarization of political views having become so vast, evil (putrid and fetid) surely walked among us. These would be the days learned about in school for future generations - how poorly we will all come off - sorry kids, we tried (or didn’t) depending.
Of the many (many) terrible choices we witnessed - doubling down of emotionally decisions was high in the running of buffoonery. “Why?” I kept saying - ((shrug)) replied MLZ. It got me wondering (a favorite pastime), surely if doubling down happens so often, there must be a return on investment… right? Why else do it??
Check out this explanation from Psychology Today…
People have a hard time changing their minds. We like to have the thoughts in our heads match up with the other thoughts in our heads. When we have one thought or piece of information that is not consistent with other thoughts in our heads, we often experience cognitive dissonance—an unpleasant psychological state that often motivates us to change our thoughts or to take action—or both—in an effort to return to a state in which one's thoughts once again are in harmony with one another.
Well, discomfort is certainly not comfortable but regardless, acting on a situation in a way contrary to a successful outcome doesn’t seem (you know) um, good. Truth is, it is often easier to believe situations, events, philosophies that are not supported by evidence - doubling down - instead of adjusting our beliefs, feelings, or understanding. Movie dude - this is a bad thing for true (that assumption is supported by the evidence).
Truth (I keep saying that word… hmm) is, there’s been evidence, for years, physical media was slowing down. You, me, and everyone who collects sat around wondering when one film or other would get a Blu Ray or 4K release. Frankly, it’s part of the fun - anticipation. In 2010, I noted there were a lot of titles awaiting 1080 conversion. In 2020, how many 4K collectors anxiously awaiting a release date? If I’m being frank (hi, I’m Frank), that number was pretty huge - much larger than the number in 2010. Evidence.
“Why’d Disney only put their latest movie out on Blu Ray? Fuck me - no 4K on ((such-in-such)) from Warner Bros.” Common conversation points at Casa de Zedd in 2022. Evidence.
((Watched video of thousands upon thousands of physical releases being smashed by heavy equipment)). Gasp - Evidence.
Notice you don’t recognize many titles on offer from your favorite boutique dealers? This has always been a thing, they by definition, have the outskirts of movie history on offer, but I’d know 70% just from researching over the years. Then it was 60%, 50%, 0%. Evidence.
Articles saying - this is it! You’ll find brick and mortar stores pulling physical media from its shelves… Best Buy, Target, Barnes and Nobles. Evidence.
Had enough? I sure have. The facts as I see them are: dumping more money into a doomed hobby is a bad plan. Corporations who make money entertaining us have found a more profitable way to do that - dialing the clocks back to pre-VHS days.
Their choice of where, when, or if I see something. Their choice to interject commercials. Their choice to split entertainment between services to spread the need for more streaming services, which they also have a stake in. It’s a consumer hit job, during a time of unbridled corporate greed. They’re removing my ability to make a meaningful choice.
In decades past, consumer advocacy groups would have been making loud complaints. They’ve largely been dismantled and out gunned.
Have you had someone suggest physical media is “old tech” and you should go “modern” by streaming? I have. The same person complained seasons were missing from a show they were watching. Someone else laughed at my collecting but said later they guessed a movie was no longer available to stream.
Let me say this clearly - old vs new is not the argument to be having. Useful or Not Useful (or simply less useful) is more to the point. Streaming cuts 90% of my freedom to choose what, when, or how. Did you know I spent $0 in February on new purchases? Freedom to choose when and where I spend money is important too.
So yes, cognitive dissonance. What I believe and what I find evidence for have got me emotional. Will I double down? Well, I’m human so yes.
But I’m Zedd too - Mr. Science! I can’t ignore the evidence. I need to chart a path that leads from delusion and to a workable solution. Here’s part of my plans…
Buy spare machines now, if vhs has taught me anything, its having machines to spin the media will become all that matters.
Buy spare TVs. If the machines disappear, I’m betting the jacks to hook them up will too as TVs get more “smart”.
Future proof - look into digital solutions. Plex, Jellyfin, and even Movies Anywhere or Amazon if need be.
Target pulled physical releases, yes, but they replaced those shelves with “old” technology: books and vinyl records. Both these formats died a digital death but… they didn’t. Who’s to say DVD or Blu Ray won’t make a similar unlikely comeback when current studio strategies fail.
We’re not stupid, even those of us that are, actually are pretty smart - nobody needs streaming. It could (and does) have a place at my entertainment table but in a limited capacity. I won’t reward them by paying for multiple subscriptions. I used Netflix until I switched to Hulu, until I switched to Disney. Push me, I’ll turn it off.
We are strong together. You can tell corporations you’re not having it by not paying for their services. Enough people do that, they’ll pivot. That’s not delusional, doubling down, or facts not in evidence. It’s fiscal reality. Vote for candidates who prioritize consumer rights over corporations, whenever you can.
Movie on, my cinematic siblings - if you made it this far down, I appreciate it. We’ll find our way through, each in our own way by thinking clearly, check our emotions, and above all - movie on.

2024.04.09 20:33 EntryEmergency3071 Finding a job is hard

I taught university courses for decades, starting before the Internet existed and into the 21st century. In 2010, I decided I wanted to be an instructional designer -- a job that was relatively new at the time and which I'd already been doing as I moved the courses I taught in a classroom into an LMS. I wanted a position in the university where I worked, but the dean of online ed insisted I needed an appropriate Master's degree. So I completed a Masters in Educational Technology at my own expense. I then took a full-time position as a Senior Instructional Designer at a local start-up in 2014 and was very successful in that position, navigating between different positions as the company was acquired and merged with multiple other companies. I also earned a management position and had direct hires. The company was very successful during the pandemic, but once the pandemic was over, the business started collapsing for a variety of reasons. After almost ten years, I was laid off last November.
I started seriously looking for another job in January, and today I submitted my 100th application. I've tried to focus on jobs I truly have the skills for, but I've only had two interviews, both unsuccessful. In one case, they agreed I was qualified for the job they advertised, but that wasn't actually the post they needed filled. In the other, I thought the interview went well, but I didn't make it past the first interview. A third company contacted me to see if I was interested in interviewing, but it turned out that the "remote" position was actually hybrid and I would be required to work on-site a few times a week, in a city much too far for me to commute to.
Does anyone have any leads or tips that can help? I've used most of the major LMSs (Blackboard, Moodle, and Canvas) as an admin. I have strong skills in instructional design, including ADDIE, project management, accessible design, and UDL. I also have very strong technical skills, having worked with computers and teaching Computer Science at a university for over 10 years. I can use Camtasia, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier, Articulate, iSpring, Xyleme, and Git, and I am an expert in web design using HTML and CSS, as well as in Microsoft Office. I learn new software very quickly, mainly because I have so much experience with other software. I've maxed out the skills list in LinkedIn, and I constantly twiddle them based on the current job lists I've been receiving.
I prefer to work in higher ed or adult training. I have no PreK-12 experience or qualifications. I could do corporate training, but it's not my first choice.

2024.04.06 16:40 mixedmartialstoner De-Bunked: Every Single April 8 Eclipse Theory that has your panties in a knot (NOT WHAT YOU THINK)

Below is a collection of fun rabbit holes that I enjoyed going through and my own research that I found and worked to debunk.
At the end, I present my objective prediction on what I predict will ACTUALLY play out.
DISCLAIMER: I have lived almost four decades not believing in any one religion. At the start of this week, I would have identified most closely to Agnostic. I think now more than ever, I identify with Christ. I am willing to believe and submit to the heavenly powers that be. I remain objective and stoic, my world views or behavior is not radically different to how it was at the start of this week.

The ELON Connection

I have reviewed enough evidence to lead me to believe with some degree of certainty that Elon is one member of a larger group of people who are actively trying to “play God”
To label it “evil” perhaps diminishes the scale and ambition of what they are trying to do.
Their actions, rituals and allocation of resources are underpinned by esoteric and Theosophical beliefs around The Collective - righteous internationalism, Heaven on Earth and self-actualising to the point that we elevate ourselves as the object of worship.
This also explains why the one political discussion that appears to be taboo and neither discussed nor dismissed by mainstream media (i.e. acting as if it doesn’t exist) is the battle between the Elites and the Common folk. When the social attention was fixated on Occupy Wall Street, they threw racial division at the people. When the internet started talking about a Global Cabal, they threw territorial wars and religious conflict our way.
However, by playing God, we have seen throughout history, TPTB push towards doing what’s best for the collective by enacting mass sacrifices, de-population, large shifts of geo-political power and a desire to transform into something grander - potentially at the cost of expendable human life. The relatable Thanos.
If the creature becomes the Creator, then what creatures are we capable of creating? Destructive robots. Human clones and “sleeves”. An Omniscient all-seeing “Eye” in the Sky. A Brave New World or Hell on Earth?
Elon is at the center of this:
Also worth noting some additional points that may be relevant
He is charismatic and viral - his internet celebrity was curated and only born in the aftermath of the cult-like phenomena that is Donald Trump being observed and understood. They swapped out Hillary Clinton and Bill Gates for the more charismatic Donald Trump and Elon Musk to earn the trust of the staunchest skeptic and those of an anti-establishment contrarian archetype.
His child’s mother, Grimes, is an outward Occultist who posted an image of a prophecy-like Tablet scrawled with emojis. This tablet appears to have predicted the COVID pandemic, and also appears to predict an eclipse event followed by nuclear war. It is curious to think that if we studied cave inscriptions to understand the social context, threats and times of those before us, or Egyptian symbols to understand civilisations before us, then perhaps future mankind will only understand the technological and scientific progress we have achieved through the lens of social media archives (hence the ode to emojis as a modern inscription).
Elon decided to dress up as Baphomet recently for Halloween. Odd guy.
Elon resembles the “powerful defense contractor” referenced in the movie Leave the World Behind who seems to be part of a group pulling the strings (movie Executive Produced by Barack Obama).
In the same movie, Teslas are used to isolate cities by blocking the means for traveling on major roads by programming them to self-drive and violently crash. For this month, Tesla announced that all Tesla vehicles will be given a free upgrade to the Full Self-Driving Package beta (normally $500/m). ”Every Tesla around you might be driving itself over the next month if Elon Musk has anything to say about it”
Curiously, Elon’s only response to the scene in the movie was that even if the world were to be ending with power outages, Tesla cars can still function via solar energy. In the above context, that is chilling to hear.
The X symbolism aligns closely with the shape of the X that the eclipse is predicted to make when overlaid with “the path of totality” from the 2017 eclipse.
The X marks the spot inspection points to a small city called Little Egypt, Illinois. It is currently under severe storms and facing difficulty with poweelectricity. There is also predicted to be over a trillion cicadas (see locusts in the Bible) rising out of the ground in Illionois specifically, capable of making a very loud and unnerving high pitched noise. This lines up with recent Media speculation on the existence of Havana Syndrome and weaponising noise frequencies.

The MUSHROOM Connection

I am not going to rehash what is already available and widely discussed in this subreddit.
I do want to state that when it comes to conspiracies, some people start with Egypt and the Pyramids, some might start with God and the Bible, others start with Aliens or the CIA.
For me, since as far as I can remember, the defining conspiracy that I believe in and always will believe in, is the Fungi conspiracy. From the vast underground network that is Mycelia, to each breath we take ingesting spores, to how it can act and behave in an almost omni-potent way targeting animals as a “host” of other organisms when they get too overpopulated to the often joked about Stoned Ape Theory to explain our evolution.
It is the centerpiece to all life - that is, organic matter. It is known to be the largest organism on Earth.
If Elon and his Cabal are trying to play God as man, with their all-seeing surveillance, transhumanism and control of the human mind, fungi have BEEN doing this. OG shit.
So how does it tie into April 8?
If a zombie apocalypse like the one seen in the Last of Us was to ever eventuate, or a takeover like the Planet of the Apes was to ever happen, it would be from cordyceps or psilocybin mushrooms.
In 2010, a study took place in India during a total solar eclipse to measure the influence of solar eclipses on microbes (Staph and E.coli bacteria, as well as fungi Candida albicans).
It is long but a key observation from the study is as follows:
Thus morphologic change contributes to increased pathogenic potential of fungus. This transitional change has also been recorded by molecular studies. There seems to be various environmental stimuli which may enhance a switch between yeast and filamentous growth patterns. The capacity to switch the pattern of growth in response to an environmental change is termed as dimorphism.
The same way fungi have a tipping point, so too must humans with the tipping point acting as a barrier to our evolution. Whether meta-physically, or to explore new terrain in the ocean and space. So if we humans are a species whose evolution is subject to the same tipping point, then we are likely very vulnerable to subtle changes in temperature and climate patterns. This could point to a “meeting of the minds” with the eclipse triggering a new symbiotic relationship between an existing fungi like cordyceps and humans, potentially taking control of us as the new host.
There is a direct limit on the ability for most fungi that are harmful to humans to exist in the presence of UV light. However, they thrive in wet, humid and warm conditions. A solar eclipse during the daytime, with wet and stormy weather leading up to and when the earth is generating as much heat as it can into the upper atmosphere could trigger this symbiotic relationship. Rockets and a super charged particle accelerator could help with this heat generation, along with already anticipated “unprecedented solar flare activity”.
The increased popularity of veganism can be directly tied perhaps to the increase in mycoprotein used as meat substitutes. These mushrooms make it easy for fungi to gain host access not just through inhalation into the respiratory tract, but also ingestion/implantation into the digestive tract.
Also worth noting some additional points that may be relevant
Lunar eclipse reveals surreal glowing fungus on Washington beach in November 2021
This glow is tied to the precursor for the bioluminescence substance - “Fungal luciferin” (the 9th known luciferin in the molecular world). It works closely with the enzyme luciferase to create this greenish-bluish light. Both words are derived from the Latin word lucifer, meaning "lightbearer"
The COVID vaccines consisted of SM-102 (lipid nanoparticles) which contained luciferase-encoding mRNA) and was injected into millions of people world wide.
Animals have been behaving erratically recently. We had a monkey attack a man in Hong Kong and recorded a rare human to animal transmission. No current vaccines exist. Since it was first identified in 1932, the B Virus has only been documented in 50 people and 21 have died. Elephants have been attacking humans in African countries which is also quite uncommon.
Cordyceps (zombie-ant fungus) infect insects such as ants or spiders. They drain the host completely of nutrients before filling its body with spores that will let the fungus reproduce (sending toxic spores blooming from the dead ant’s head).
This jump from insects to people is currently implausible, but not impossible. Under the right conditions, a flux in sunlight and the right temperature could suddenly “activate” these spores. If so, then the Last of Us Apocalypse is closer than we think.
https://medicine.yale.edu/news-article/the-last-of-us-apocalypse-is-not-realistic-but-rising-threat-of-fungal-pathogens-is/
Speaking of the right conditions….
There have been several reports from different parts of the world and to different scales of reusing or disturbing grave sites at Cemeteries. In the book Hollow Kingdom, a Crow narrates the Zombie apocalypse from its POV. The Crow is also often seen accompanying the Grim Reaper (Azrael), depicting death and bad omens.
The super rich have also been ramping up their access to bunkers and getting their hands on Golden visas…. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-12974609/What-know-Worlds-billionaires-building-bunkers-assembling-fortresses-outside-mansions.html
I do have a few more related “Connections” that tie this all together.
This is already a long post so if people found this somewhat intriguing or thought provoking, then I will go ahead and make a part 2 along with my final conclusions on where this all leads to.

I put a TW, since I apologize in advance.

I'm a younger millennial, born in New Jersey in 1996, and I'm torn about whether it was the South, Gen X or the Boomers who did it. Maybe it's the Republican Party's fault - I don't know. I might not want to solve that mysterious inquiry. I'm a hardcore Democrat, and all the apologists online who are becoming online keyboard gangsters - it shocks me.

But I always say, "The 2010s and 2020s are the second Civil Rights Movement" - but I still wonder if I truly feel that way or if America's just become a horrible country to live in since 2010. I honestly still struggle with it. I've had people say, "America's not that bad", and then Side 2 says, "If you don't like it, you can leave", and then Side 3, who says, America's great because, "There are organizations and societies. Stop hating the people." (That was said to me in 2015) But the part Side 3 forgets is: That was said to me long before BLM, long before January 6th, long before struggling streaming platforms, long before the pandemic, long before the crazy Southerners started banning abortion rights - basically, America was still civilized pre-2012.

Growing up, my idols were Lucille Ball, Nelly Furtado (22 years later, she's still my favorite songwriter), Tallulah Bankhead, Joan Rivers, Desi Arnaz and Neneh Cherry (I still play Raw Like Sushi cover to cover, like it's going out of style).
Honestly, I'm still wondering if the right solution is to move to England (although England is a mess also, it's a tolerable mess). And the Labour Party seems to be going in the right direction. My great-aunt worked with Amelia Earhart and Nancy Astor (in recent times, Lady Astor's got quite the controversial legacy; people make mistakes, and sometimes those mistakes are questionable comments that will make you view them in an unfavorable light - and given, I was told she gave a speech where she said she's the daughter of a slave owner - I don't know if she said it or not, I was told this information, secondhand - I'd be speechless and stunned if it were true).

More than 30 people have even told me I look like my great-aunt's biological twin - to this day, my mom refers to my nose as "You have that Keene nose" (my great-aunt was the noted English-Canadian photographer, Violet Keene).

My personal favorite Lady Astor quote is her quote about "moral courage" (which was about equal rights for married women); when I did a perfect Lady Astor impression, the first thing my mother said was, "Is that Bridgerton?" I laughed (since my mom is obsessed with Bridgerton; it's not my cup of tea, though).
  1. Here's a speech Lady Astor gave in 1932 (I thought it brilliant; she was a wonderful orator with a great sense of humor): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=artjaoYVHtw
  2. Here's a 2019 lecture, given by Dr. Jacqui Turner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFfxhL6racg - I also thought this presentation was very moving; definitely a teaching tool for MPs of the future generations.

I'm a 27 year old man who comes from a long line (on both sides of my family) of determined, yet domineering and ruthless women (and mostly 2 parent households, except my dad's parents weren't married; which drives historians crazy). Whether positive or negative in personality - they set a goal and accomplished it; sometimes political goals, sometimes goals of retiring early, sometimes goals of building a better life - regardless, they manifested their own dreams and never once gave up.But now, in 2024, I'm still speechless at how America's gone down the drain (politically and financially).

Now, backwards attitudes, misogyny, toxic masculinity and transphobia is still alive and well in America - and all we can do is work hard to provide a civilized & sustainable world for our descendants, one person at a time & hope that life doesn't get worse by 2030 or so.However, I did see an article about Dakota Adams that restored my faith in humanity & Gen Z - just a little bit: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/the-son-of-stewart-rhodes-founder-of-the-extremist-oath-keepers-has-decided-to-enter-politics-as-a-democrat/ar-BB1ksd6F

Supply versus Demand conundrum is in every industry (Made in the USA, the 'IN' thing, the latest and greatest technology, HOT topic/product, etc etc)
The Supply versus Demand conundrum happens in every industry; Semiconductors as well. AI is HOT HOT HOT at the moment (and probably will be into 2025) but this too will end...

"Demand-driven market correction started in 2H22. Inventory soared and market pricing reached below cash cost within a half year. Every player starts to struggle for survival. The correction will continue for one more year. The next upcycle will start in 2025," says Soo Kyoum Kim, associate vice president, IDC's Semiconductors research program.

Beware: Conservative Muslim are astroturfing as leftists; and what it says about the other Muslim Americans

The Main Story

A few weeks ago, while looking online and playing Final Fantasy XIV and later Final Fantasy VII, I stumbled across this site. It was posted by someone claiming to be upset about how Muslim Americans are treated by Democrats and Republicans, and we should run to have our own representation. I doubt this person was genuine for reasons I will get to shortly.
This site is spectacularly low effort, with 2 AI images being used.

This has so many issues, I don't need to go through them. They are Obvious.

The shading is goofy, and there is the weird detailing that I've noticed to be common with AI
All other pictures are stock photos from a site called Unsplash. This doesn't even get into the shoddy editing of the site, with letters that hang down like "j" being cut off. Or the poor color choices. In addition, the little Social Media icons that should go to their Social Media accounts go their main page, and the pictures and captions that should be links are unable to be interacted with. Another site, nearly identical, has the same issues. This is lazy and inept, which is a good thing, considering what they are doing on their site.
It looks innocuous enough, wanting to promote greater Muslim engagement, which would be a good thing.
The formatting here is also terrible. This is a straight screenshot. Note the mosques at the bottom, I will get back to this later.
Scroll down just a little bit though, and you see that they are promoting a meeting with an America First scumbag, showing their true motives.

Why are Muslim leaders promoting a meeting with someone who means us harm?
So, we have a supposedly Lefty Muslim group promoting themselves as such, meanwhile, they promote meeting with Trumpies. This is already an amoral con, but it gets worse, as there is group in DC, also including a large number of Muslims, which is actually leftist, named United Voices. Talking with people yesterday on fairly conservative Discord, consensus was almost immediate that this band of scum in Dallas are purposefully trying to confuse people to pull support from a more legitimate organization. It should be noted that they put up an endorsement page, specifically for the Democratic Primary, but I don't think that helps their case.

These are 2 of 5 pages of endorsements.
I noticed they endorsed Roland Gutierrez instead of Colin Allred. That wouldn't be an issue, except he also said an African-American man can't win Hispanic votes, a fairly racist comment, while also implying he would be able to get high turnout from said African-American community, seemingly believing they will come out to vote for him in the same way they would for Allred. So, more than a little scummy. The fact that they have no comments about that should show how devoted they actually are to Social Justice.

The Mosques in Question

One the bottom of the poster in the 3rd Picture, you will likely notice 4 little emblems. Those represent 4 different mosques. With as much misery and isolation I went through in the Dallas Muslim community, I would love to blame all of them. However, that would be dishonest. There are dozens of Mosques in the DFW area.
The 4 mosques in question are the Islamic Center of Frisco, the East Plano Islamic Center, the Desoto House of Peace, and the Valley Ranch Islamic Center. I have experience with all but the Desoto Mosque and know about the Imams for 2 of them.
Frisco, East Plano, and Valley Ranch are all fairly wealthy, and Frisco and East Plano have a South Asian-based community. I don't remember Valley Ranch as much on that demographic, but I think it may be South Asian as well, based on some dumb comments from Omar Suleiman. The fact they are so wealthy might give a more cynical reason as to why they are flirting with Republicans.
East Plano also seems to be more concerned with its image than anything else. When I lived in the area, they ended up firing a respected local youth leader, and hiring some guy from elsewhere who is/was big among younger Muslims at the time. This was a minor controversy at the time. I do not remember the name of the guy they hired.
All 4 Mosques are at the very edge of the Dallas side of the DFW metro. Somewhat humorously, they kind of form a compass on a map. They are all towards the very periphery of the Dallas side of the DFW Metroplex. And I have personal awareness of two of the leaders of two of these mosques: Yasir Qadhi and Omar Suleiman

The 4 Mosques putting their name to this.

"Religious Leader" 1 - Omar Suleiman

The first leader is Omar Suleiman, who I have loathed for some time for being a sneaky, duplicitous garbage can of a human being who spews misinformation. He is being mentioned first, as he is far more active on social media, and recently "converted" Shaun King, aka. Talcum X. He is an Imam at Valley Ranch Islamic Center. Even before the Israel-Hamas Conflict, he has been quite economical with the truth. Here is an example from the Derna flood in September of last year.

His description of what happened in New Orleans is flexible with the truth.
His talk about the city of New Orleans during Katrina is strange. He implied the flood of New Orleans to be violent and forceful, comparing it to Derna. In reality, violent breaches only occurred at the Lower 9th Ward. This brings me to the second issue with this: He likely saw none of it. He was an Imam at the age of 19 (that is not a typo), preaching at the Jefferson Islamic Center. The mosque it has, Masjid Abu Bakr Al Siddique, is located in Western Metairie, near the border with Kenner. This area experienced relatively mild flooding, no more than 4 feet in that area, and most under 2 feet. This was caused by the unmanned pumping system clogging with debris and becoming inoperable. Having talked to people who lived there around that time, they stated it would be extremely unlikely for him to be able to get to the worst of it from where he was, given closed roads. And he probably didn't see it either. That area was nearly completely out of power until some point between 9/3 and 9/7. He got an award from ICNA (we will get to them later) for his efforts during Katrina. However, I am not sure what he actually did there. He was 19, the Imam of a Mosque miles from the worst hit areas, and I don't recall seeing any specific efforts about it. It did get him on the News though. And to top it all off, on Twitter, he tried to pass a Japanese flood in 2021 as the Derna flood. Mississippi's Gulf Coast did suffer something similar to Derna, but he has never mentioned them.

The mosque he used to be an Imam for is at the diagonal intersection north of the Highway, between the Kenner and Metairie labels.

Power Outages from Katrina on September 3rd. Suleiman and his mosque are in Jefferson Parish.

The power situation on September 7th. It would have been a week before he got detailed knowledge of what happened to the east.
Which brings us to his actions during the Israel-Hamas conflict. He has been a firehose of disinformation. In fact, his account got restricted. He has also collaborated with Shaun King, who has a reputation among people who are actually concerned with Civil Rights of being a fraudster.

He and Talcum X were connected long before King's \"conversion.\" This was on October 21st.
Frankly, there are far too many examples to go through, so I will choose one of the easiest to disprove. On October 10th, he put out this tweet, accusing Biden of demonizing the Palestinians and conflating them with Hamas, here's what Biden actually said in his speech:
Hamas does not stand for the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and self-determination. Its stated purpose is the annihilation of the State of Israel and the murder of Jewish people.
They use Palestinian civilians as human shields.
And he has been doing this constantly. And even when the President says things explicitly, he will quote tweet or screenshot something Biden said, then twist words or flat-out make things up to get the people who are listening to Suleiman to dismiss what Biden and others say. He's done a good job of getting people ensnared into an info bubble and making sure they only listen to him. Instagram was right to restrict him, but it was too late.
But it's not like this is new to him. He has a habit of concealing things and being two-faced all the time. Like the time he covered a sex pest. Nouman Ali Khan was/is a religious speaker who was quite popular in the mid-2010's. Until texts he had with young women came out showing that he was a sex pest. The problem is that wasn't revealed until it was disclosed by 5 Muslim religious leaders because he broke an agreement (I don't like having to use that site, but it linked to a FB post by one of the 5 religious leaders, which has either been deleted or been hidden. I remember this from that time) to stop public speaking, get counseling, and cease all contact with those women. One of the leaders who agreed with this strategy of sweeping it under the rug and not telling people was Omar Suleiman. Which says volumes about what he thinks of women, that they are worth less than a man's reputation.
Though, this should be obvious, considering how he has cooperated with Haifaa Younis, a doctor who promotes Female Genital Mutilation. As expected of a conservative, he has signed onto anti-LGBT letters and put out material bashing them. He has also compared those who don't wear the hijab to a bag of chips and ones that do to Mink Coats. That was a decade ago, and he denounced it, but considering his distant relationship with the truth, is there a reason to trust him? From that same period, we have him praising an American association that says there is no so such thing as marital rape. And while I can't find the recent video I mentioned last month, there is a video of him from back then saying that women should wear the Hijab at all times, as it would inspire lust from family members. Only the most decrepit mind would think that which raises questions to me as to why he thinks this. There is so much more, but this is already kinda long. If wanted, I can produce something more extensive about him. He's a shady character.
One last thing on him though. He has been less than sympathetic to Muslims in Ukraine, and Ukraine as a whole. He's made some snide remarks about these people. He apparently doesn't know, ignores, or purposefully refuses to inform people about the Crimean Tatars, a Turkic Muslim group. They and other Muslims make up about 8% of the nation, and the Minister of Defense is a Muslim Tatar. You would think he would have something to say in defense of them, especially against a nation that has a history of depraved and savage behavior towards Muslims like Russia. And there is a high likelihood that Putin ordered attacks on his own country to justify the horrific actions he would take in Chechnya. He has not shown an iota of care. Probably because they are inconvenient to his worldview, which apparently makes it ok to him that Russians are raping and murdering Muslims in Ukraine. Even though Ukraine has been more critical of Israel than the US. Considering how he seems to be trying to reverse social changes with young Muslims, I think there is a chance he loathes Ukraine intrinsically. Unique among Europe, Ukraine accepts Muslims as part of themselves, while not pressuring them to give up their cultural practices, and also being one of the least Anti-Semitic Nations in Europe. A Christian Nation, with a Jewish President and a Muslim Minister of Defense. That kind of coexistence must make him rage. I do not buy his membership in various inter-religious groups for an attosecond. He says too much stuff in places like Yaqeen for me to buy that.

"Religious Leader" 2- Yasir Qadhi

Yasir Qadhi is an Imam at East Plano Islamic Center and is far more straightforward than Omar Suleiman. He a conservative midwit who has a habit of picking fights, with a few examples to pick from.
The first example I have is from this article in New Lines Magazine discussing Hadith on Aisha's Age. Namely, that the hadith claiming she was 9 when married to Muhammad (PBUH) was not only wrong but was probably forged. That first part has been suspected among historians for a while, but using the Historical-Critical Method, which the article describes as "scholars scour the text for historical anachronisms, which would alert them to a fabrication." The Quran does well under this, as noted later. The hadith, especially this hadith about Aisha's age....do not.
As for why they are forged, it seems that it was done to bolster Aisha's "purity" by proto-Sunnis against that of Fatima, Muhammad's (PBUH) daughter and wife of Ali. And you would think that a Muslim preacher would be happy to see how the Quran performed under the Historical-Critical method. The reality is quite a bit different, as he blasted it.
He said such "doubts" about this hadith were an attack on the Salih Bukhari collection of Hadith and commented on studies of these types as such, quoting the article.
Such attacks are not even equivalent to a gust of wind that attempts to blow down a fortress.
This seems to characterize these sorts of studies as an attack on Islam itself. Which it obviously is not. Jonathan A.C. Brown, a writer who belongs to the same Yaqeen Institute that Suleiman and Qadhi also belong to, assailed the historical-critical method as well, saying it is " a distinctly Western construct and a cultural imposition on Muslims." This is complete bullshit, as a) the cross-pollination between the Muslim World and the "Western" world means that we are intertangled in a way that is impossible to pull apart and b) is really hilarious, considering how they themselves are promoting a western imposition on Islam as I will detail at the end.
Another example, quite a bit more disgusting, comes from the Hagia Sophia controversy, with the FB post spewing his venom here. He doesn't cite Quran, or even the Hadith here, rather throwing out the names of long-dead scholars, talks about what happened to the Grand Mosque of Cordoba, and a bunch of prettier ways of saying "might makes right." Most disgustingly though, towards the end, he says that while Muslims in secular nations should fight and push for their rights to the fullest, Muslim nations should be able to treat their minorities in any way they see fit and should be happy with whatever rights the conservative Islamists give them. Many, if not most of the comments are condemning this disgusting garbage. It was also condemned by the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs. This article also shows that the President of ISNA, the better of the US Muslim Organizations, condemned the conversion of the Hagia Sophia into a mosque. Qadhi's opinion is utterly foul and disgusting, and he is also completely ignoring the historical precedent of Umar, the 2nd Caliph. He's a Hanbali, the strictest and smallest of the 4 major schools of Sharia Law among Sunnis, so he should be putting a lot of weight on their actions. Well, here's what Umar did with the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, pulled from Wikipedia:
A story reports that the caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab visited the church and stopped to pray on the balcony, but at the time of prayer, turned away from the church and prayed outside. He feared that future generations would misinterpret this gesture, taking it as a pretext to turn the church into a mosque. Eutychius of Alexandria adds that Umar wrote a decree saying that Muslims would not inhabit this location.
Umar was right to be worried, a Mosque was built at the location he prayed.) The fact that Qadhi would flout this shows who he really is.
(As an aside, I came to Islam via history, so the political events that led to the Sunni-Shia split hold no heat for me. This has also led me to be in an odd position neither wholly Sunni nor Shia. If people want to know, I can comment on it.)
I predict that he will eventually pick a fight with someone smarter and more aggressive and that he will be taken to clown school. However, in the meantime, he can probably cause a lot of damage. I can't find the article, but I know that I have seen him mentioned as being involved with the Muslims who aligned themselves with Moms for Liberty over LBGTQ issues. In addition, he has made comments about Progressive and Liberal Muslims having "very little Islam" in what they practice and preach. Which, maybe I am a bit overly twitchy and paranoid, but that sounds awfully close to Takfir, which has gotten people killed and ruined lives. As to why he is doing this, that article provides an explanation: 60% of Millennial Muslims are pro-LGBTQ. Recently, there has been harassment of Liberal and Progressive Muslims by conservative Muslims in the US, and a fair number of people have stopped creating content. This might be reflected in polling.
Considering the deceit done with this website, and his disgusting opinions, is there anything he supposedly "renounced," because his relationship with the truth is distant, at best? Well, Wikipedia's not the greatest source, but it's a good start....oh. I see he thought around 2010 that he thought most Islamic Studies professors were Jews out to damage Islam and dabbled in Holocaust denial. He also incited a few investigations in 2015 by the Charity Commission in the UK over comments he made about how "killing homosexuals and stoning adulterers was part of their religion." In addition, there is a video out there of him condemning the anti-Hijab protests in 2021, while comparing women not wearing the hijab to being naked. Which, if seeing a woman's hair makes you behave like a wild beast, maybe you should just stay inside. Also, policies like that in Iran have caused a crash in mosque attendance and religiosity, but he's apparently too ignorant to be aware of this. For something towards the end, I will also mention that he has spoken at ICNA events. ICNA is not a good organization, and worse than you probably think.

View from the Inside- What I have seen from the Muslim Community

While this might seem out of place here, I do want to give what I have seen from inside the Muslim Community. As someone who has been fighting 2 fronts to exhaustion, as I am pro-Palestinian, and hate Hamas, I feel many (if not most) here may not have interacted with Muslims. So here we are.
From my experience, with the exception of scum like Suleiman (who is Palestinian), most Muslims absolutely do care about the Palestinians, and many have fallen into a pit of despair, which is then causing rage. Most of us, if not all, either lost a loved one or know someone who did. Including me. The Imam who converted me lost 4+ members of his family.
Among those my age, there is deep suspicion of mainstream media because of a combination of Iraq, past mistakes when talking about Muslims, and a previous severe bias towards Israel. Some very reactionary cancellations of Muslim shows and the like in the media after 10/7 did not help, causing them to believe that Muslims are seen as disposable to the media and Americans, to be thrown away when convenient. This has caused many to not believe Mainstream Media at all, and they now get all their news from social media, where bad actors like Suleiman promote more mistrust, spread false info, and discourage people from looking at sources of news that might say things contrary to them. This has caused a spiral. Most of these people then follow what these guys say, and having talked to them, the vast majority are not consciously anti-Semitic. They are just trusting what "scholars" say to be true. It doesn't help that most are only very weakly political, only paying attention occasionally, and having their political awakening in 2016, and got taken in by Sanders-types, mostly out of anti-war rhetoric from Sanders because of Iraq. Contrary to stereotypes, polling shows that American Muslims do believe that Israeli and Palestinian rights can coexist. Previous to this war, Muslims tended to be more optimistic about the US on the whole than the average American. I think this is another reason for bullshit from Suleiman and Qadhi. They want to try and make the Muslim community more insular and paranoid by demonizing anything outside of it.
And from personal interaction, I have found the Arab side of the community to be more rational on this than the South Asian side, and less likely to go anti-Semitic. Inversely, I've noticed many South Asian Muslims are more willing to take Hindutva things in good faith than Arabs. Make of that what you will. Arabs care more about Palestine but are less likely to go weird about it.
In addition, the American Muslim community is not anti-LGBT. It has been supportive of LGBT for a while, and among Millennials, support is around 60%. A PRRI poll in 2021 showed 77% of Muslims opposed religiously-based denials of service against LGBT individuals. What people like Yasir Qadhi and Omar Suleiman are promoting is an attempt to reverse time. However, I judge it too late. Over the past few years, I have seen opinions towards Qadhi trend negative, as he is increasingly seen as an angry man trying to pick fights. As stated earlier: He will eventually pick one with someone willing to go to the mattresses, and he will end up on the losing end. And while LBGT is one area where these two are out of sync, there are other examples. On abortion, 55-56% of Muslim Americans support the pro-choice side as of 2022 according to a ISPR poll and another by Pew.
In what I believe is a related note, only 40% of American Muslims attend Mosque weekly. From personal experience, I believe this is a combination of the older people in charge of the mosques being unwilling to accept change, mostly in mosques being more diverse and less ethnically based. I also think that mosques getting political about various culture war issues has not helped.
One other thing needs to change, unrelated to this. I have noticed a reticence for confrontation, mostly from Liberal and Progressive Muslims towards Conservative Muslims. It's not all of them, but it is too many. I would liken it to Mayor Dobe, from Final Fantasy VIII. A dislike of confrontation is so strong that people believe that talking can solve things. Of course, this is wrong, especially with Conservatives, who largely attempt to dominate by habit. Of course, FFVIII shows this failing as well. Liberal and Progressive Muslims really need to start responding. After all, it's not like Conservative Muslims respect Liberal and Progressive Muslims.
If someone is wondering why I bring up FFVIII, it's because the game and what was going on with Ultimecia is, I feel, incredibly important for the Muslim World, and hence I think FFVIII would be the most important FF for Muslims to play. Yes, over FFVII as well.

The Part about ICNA

I mentioned ICNA before as being a bad organization. As you can imagine, they are very conservative. For instance, during the time I was in Dallas, ICNA had two scandals. One involved when they had a panel about women in Islam. If you guessed that the number of women on the panel was 0, then congratulations, you have won a sense of pride and accomplishment. The second involved a match-making event (think speed dating). As these are the same across Muslim organizations, they have you fill out a form for preferences. Well, this one included skin tone. As expected, when people heard about it, many were not amused, especially since ICNA is largely based from the South Asian part of the community, and there has been a colorism issue within that one for a while. A quick search pulls up 2 papers on this topic, for instance.
But that's nothing compared to the fact that their New York City branch was led for decades by a genocidaire.
Meet Ashrafuzzaman Khan, a former member of the al-Badr paramilitary force. In 2013, he was convicted in absentia for his role in the genocide, which included personally murdering at least 7 intellectuals. While some of these trials have had issues, the fact that the driver of this murder was able to help Bengali authorities locate the graves of those killed, which combined with a diary that included the names and addresses of a number of those found in the grave, others missing or killed, and people who were fellow collaborationists of Pakistan like himself.
This occurred during Operation Searchlight and the Bangladeshi Liberation War, which saw Pakistan attempt to wipe out Bengali culture. Internally, these actions were called genocide within the US State Department, and the death toll is no lower than 6 digits. The Blood Telegram is the most famous of the US Diplomatic Cables about this.
I'm not sure the Wikipedia article is up to date. He was scrubbed from the ICNA site some time ago, but finding recent info on him is difficult, as searching for him on Google pulls up a mountain of specifically anti-Muslim sites, all set on using ICNA to demonize and this particular monster to demonize all American Muslims. As of right now, he was last known to be in Queens. Bangladesh wants him extradited for his death sentence, but the US has not responded.
As for why he is here? The US allied with Pakistan during this, and the USSR with India. India stopped that genocide, and this is one of the times in the Cold War when we were absolutely in the wrong. Of course, Nixon and Kissinger were behind this pro-genocide position we took. This was one of the primary reasons I celebrated when that piece of garbage died last year.

LGBT in Islam: A Twist in What is the Western Imposition

You've probably noticed how often LGBT people have come up here, and it is my primary theory for the real reason for attempting split support from a real progressive Muslim organization. What if I told you that the real "Western Imposition on Islam" was that these conservative preachers were pushing European values enforced on the Muslim World in the 1800-1900s?
Because that is exactly what is happening. I'm not going to claim that things were a paradise, or anywhere near as good as in some "western" nations today. They are making things sound somewhat better than they were. But things were genuinely far better in the part of the Islamic World than now. The concept of a third gender was around (and has survived to now in some places), and you can see how there was a great deal more tolerance than there is today.
And the reason for the change? Europeans coming in and over time enforcing a more "enlightened" view of sexuality, also affecting Heterosexual people as well. Christianity tends to be more negative on sexuality than Islam (historically and scripturally), and this affected women too. The damage Europe did to the Muslim World wasn't just dividing land between themselves. They broke cultural mores and traditions of the Muslim World that went back for centuries, even over a millennium.
And yet, those like Suleiman and Qadhi continue to promote and push this. Pushing a very Christian form of sexuality welded to the Muslim faith. Which is an abomination, in my opinion. And at the end, they point out how conservative preaches are aggressively pushing a version of the past as the truth, while trying to erase what the past was actually like.
And this is the reason why I think Final Fantasy VIII is so important for Muslims to play. We have forgotten our history, and that is precisely what created Ultimecia. As history to the common man became vague over time, they forgot the specifics of what happened with Ultimecia in the past, and started persecuting sorceresses, Eventually, one snapped and become Ultimecia. I believe Muslims must learn how forgetting our own history can have catastrophic consequences. And worse yet, demagogues like Suleiman and Qadhi are doing this on purpose.
And the fact they are willing to align with America Firsters shows that they are willing to harm the Majority of Muslims, not just here, but around the planet.
This is already very long, so I will leave out what I think the Democrats and Pro-Palestinians (especially Muslims) should be doing differently. I can make a follow up on that if it is wanted.
