2024.05.16 03:11 Old-Ad8654 why are white supremists and racist white folk usually more aggressive towards blacks than they are to us asian people?

I am half Asian and I've observed how racist people roll. I live in a redneck part of Florida I noticed something when it comes to racists. white racists would go aggressive against african americans spewing out N words and saying all sorts of crap to them and also we all kno about slavery and jim crow. however with asians the white racists seem a little more quiet and subtle. is this because our skin is a little more fairer? can any former white supremists and former racists enlighten me on this?

2024.05.16 02:59 Jr-Wldn-Expl-54 I have had strep throat for nearly 6 months, despite multiple antibiotics. Do I have a weak immune system?

Age: 19
Sex: female (trans man)
Height: 5’ 5”
Weight: 160 lbs
Race: African American, white
Duration of complaint: 6 months
Location: tonsils, throat
Current medications: testosterone, finasteride, kyleena IUD
I am scheduled for a tonsillectomy in August after finding out last week that I’ve had strep throat since January. I have been through five rounds of antibiotics, none of which have cleared up my swollen tonsils and sore throat. I was finally able to see an ENT who sent a culture to lab (results were an uncommon strain of strep). I’m now on a 14 day round of Ceflex, but I’m wondering, does having a bacterial infection for so long do permanent damage to any of my organs? Does it mean that I have a weak immune system if my body could not naturally clear the infection?

2024.05.16 01:53 Comfortable_Sir7165 2007-2015 SuperMarioLogan, ahhh, Remember this???

2007-2015 SuperMarioLogan, ahhh, Remember this???
Let's get into it...
The Classic Era, sometimes referred to as the Golden Era, is a term to describe the second era in the SML Movies. The era lasted from November 17, 2008 ("A Retarded Beginning") to April 27, 2013 ("Bowser Junior's Macaroni"). The era saw many well-known videos and series, such as Mario and Luigi's stupid and dumb adventures, Black Yoshi and The Birds (2011) and Toad's Mistake (2009).
Occasionally the era is sometimes confused with the Old Era, which came before it. Even many old SML fans consider the Old Era to be a part of the Classic Era.
Mario and Luigi's Stupid and Dumb Adventures Mario and Luigi's Stupid and Dumb adventures is one of the most iconic series that Logan has ever made, stretching out from 2008 to 2012.
Season 1 On November 17, 2008, the first episode was released on YouTube. The season continued until June 24, 2009 with the death of Mama Luigi.
Season 2 A month after the first season ended, the second season was released on July 24, 2009. As the season went on the quality and plot began to improve. The season eventually ended on June 20, 2012 because Logan had superior mesenteric artery (SMA) syndrome.
Season 3 and Aftermath Season 3 was released a year into the Junior Era, the series was eventually discontinued with the last episode being released sometime in November 2014 (The month and the year that DreamWorks Animation's "Penguins of Madagascar" was released on November 26th, 2014)
Black Yoshi During Mario and Luigi's stupid and dumb adventures, Black Yoshi, a stereotypical African-American, was introduced in "Yoshi's Cousin", the 13th episode of the series.
Black Yoshi and the Birds In June 2011, Black Yoshi and the Birds was released as a sequel to "The Bird".
And that's it, we don't have informations to the Junior Era from SML (2013-2015), so yeah, sorry folks.
But y'all remember that you were used to love watching this SML era on your childhood? Tell me the story of yours about YOU and the SML before Jeffy.

2024.05.16 00:49 AnnaNamyss Mama Makwa

I was invited by a couple of friends to go camping a few days ago. I'm honestly still exactly not sure if any of it was real, but I wish to share my story nonetheless. It began last Monday, when friend number Six invited friends One through Five to a girls get away. She claims to have found this beautiful spot in the mountain on one of her hikes and she says it’s perfect for seeing the stars at night. I was skeptical at first, to be honest I don't really like being outdoors, but it sounded like an experience worth having, so I thought "why not, this will be a wonderful memory to look back on!". I had just purchased a new camera as well, so I was honestly starting to warm up to the idea. I could take pictures of our excursion into the woods and make cute little picture frames for everyone for their birthdays, it would've been so cute! But things did not go at all as I had envisioned.
So the day of the trip arrives, a bit faster than I would've liked, but honestly I think I was just anxious about… I kept feeling this weight in my chest that made it uncomfortable to breathe, but I was going into the woods, strange things happen to women in movies; Jason Voorhees, Sasquatch, Shia LaBeouf! Who knows what could happen! Not to mention there is always the chance I could fall into a lake and get covered in leeches, or get surrounded by wolves, or chased up a tree by a bear… Hopefully a very soft bear so I'll at least know one pleasure before I die! There are all sorts of fears I had envisioned before the day of the trip, but anxiety just be like that.
I met up with my friends at the trail and learned that friend Six decided to bring her bf along, which I was upset about but I guess he was just going to get a hotel room nearby so he'd be close enough to her to feasibly show up if we needed any help. She later told us that he worries all the time because his father went missing in these woods years ago and he's worried the same might happen to her. This is where I learned that men tend to stay out of those woods because men have been going missing in those woods for years, but according to friend Six, she's been coming to this forest for a while now and hasn't had any bad experiences. Hearing that did oddly put me at ease, but now all I could wonder at the time was what happened to all those poor men.
Deep into the night we're all chit chatting, talking about where we are in our lives, things that are bugging us, what our hopes are, and dancing to the music of nature… but which of course I mean we got shit drunk, smoked some great wee, talked about sex, laughed over silly anime scenes, and twerked to slipknot girly bops!. It was such a fun night at that point that I honestly wish I could go back and never let that night end. It was intoxicating how beautiful the sky looked, and when gazed up it was almost like we could scoop the stars into our hands and sip from the sea of stars. I was worried we'd just be on our phones all night filming tiktoks or something but even with no signal, no one really seemed to be too stressed about it, we all just kind of felt safe… Almost welcomed into the forest, like being embraced by a loving mother. But unfortunately, heaven isn't forever, and men come not but to steal, kill, and destroy.
As we were drinking we decided to tell some scary stories… or well I decided to because I thought "it's so cliché but we have to do it. It feels like tradition almost." plus I would've regretted it if we didn't do it, so fuck it, right? Right. So we go around telling scary stories to one another, and I mention to friend Six that I keep thinking about those poor men that went missing. I then asked if any women had gone missing, and surprisingly she said yes… it was way back in the 1800's but after that there had never been a single missing woman in that forest. The forest was actually named after the first young woman who went missing all those years back, and now there are all these rumors about it but I don't believe in that stuff so I didn't really pay much attention… I kept thinking "I'll just wait for the manga… or the shitty Hollywood cash grab of it…" but I DO vaguely remember the history cause I find dark history lore to be super fascinating. So there was a time when the area had more indigenous citizens living here, before gentrification moved into town. She went on to tell us that indigenous people eventually began to keep to themselves because as more white people moved in, more of their daughters went missing. There are yearly parades to honor the missing daughters and to spread awareness to those living in the town. The police try to shut it down but they still do it every year.
Not long after hearing that we hear something howl in the distance. Friend Three howls back and friend Five falls on her out of her camping chair laughing. I tell them to knock it off because the last thing we need is for her to accidentally attract a wolf during mating season! I don't know if that’s a thing, but it sounds like something that’s a thing… So I'm just going to assume that it is. Don't judge me. She then says "But what if it's Taylor Lautner? Or Joe Manganiello? Personally… I'm more of a Meatloaf guy myself… But you know… RIP… But Joe is pretty fine and my mom did always hope I'd marry a black man to get melanin back in our family… But I don't think a splash of melanin is gonna override this asian/african skin so… Anyways! So these guys come walking past our camp site, and we're all drunk and high so we're already all on edge upon seeing random men this deep into the forest, but friend Four gets up and says "who the fuck are you and what're you doing here!?" One of the men quickly apologizes and tells us they're actually out here camping as well. They said a friend of theirs found this waterfall in the forest that glows because it captures the moon's light. Friend Two hears this and asks if we can go with them, to which we all begrudgingly agree.
At the "mooncuzi" I like to call it, we all sit around this beautiful natural pool lit up by the moon, and we were worried it would be cold but I was surprisingly warm, if I had to guess I'd assume there's a magma vein under there or something? Idk, I'm not a geologist or volcanologist, but something kept it warm and it wasn't my tiny bladder! Everyone was really relaxed and the guys honestly seemed super cool, and guy One honestly seemed really nice. I call him guy One because he's number 1 to me, we're still together now, and we even have another partner now, so yay! We all began talking and some of us were hitting it off, clearly… but we had all been drinking and smoking more which, honestly we had stopped… but we couldn't pass up the opportunity to get cross-faded in a mooncuzi. Nuh. Nope. Not on my watch. But someone clearly didn't get the vibe memo, because friend Two screams out "bro what the fuck I said no!"
The next thing we hear is "You don't have to yell about it like some kind of cunt!" Everyone runs over to try and figure out what's going on. Turns out guy Five didn't like being told no. He and friend Two were playing a drinking game with friends Three and Four and guy Three and Four. We learned that guy Five dared friend Two to take her top off, to which she said politely refused, and the guys didn't seem to like that. They tried to convince her it's part of the game. One of the guys said she was already in her underwear anyway, so she might as well… My guy, One, and guy Two scolded their friends for their behavior, which is why guy Two and friend Two are married now… Guess nice guys don't finish last, huh? Anyways, They scolded their friends for their behavior, I remember my guy yelling "you never speak to a woman like that!" and "If I ever catch you trying to peer pressure a woman again I'll take your testicals in my hand and squeeze on them slowly until I know what it's like to feel one pop in my hand." and it was honestly the hottest thing I've ever heard a man say… a bit violent… but fuck was I glad I was in the water!
Guys One and Two apologized for their friends' actions the whole way back. I asked them why they remained friends with them and guy One had gone off to college while guy Two went into the service, so the two of them had been away for a few years, but they swore their friends never used to be like that. This was actually supposed to be a reunion hike of sorts since they both happened to come back around the same time. After meeting up with guys Three, Four, and Five though, they realized their friends had been warped by these podcasts about alphas and betas and maximizing your sigma or something, and tried to convince him to listen to some pickup artist that claimed to know the secret to unlocking the female brain. Also known as, stupid useless slop grifters make to get rich off young boys with zero confidence and zero bitches. Lastly, he tells me guy Three was actually raised by a single mother alongside his two sisters, so he really wouldn't expect that kind of behavior from him. Guy Four was always sort of sketchy but they thought he was "just being funny", men right? The only thing they felt was weird about him was this one time when they were teens his sister moved away and he got really quiet afterwards, but then he dated a few people that looked almost identical to her, but for some reason he didn't see it, so they started calling him "little sister" (or did they? oooo) or "Lil" for short, joking he had an undiagnosed sister complex… Ew. That’s all I’ll say to that. The last guy, Five, they said always seemed fine to them, they didn't elaborate, so idk what their idea of "fine" is, sorry to disappoint.
Not long after we got back to the camp we heard engines in the distance, and as they got closer and closer we all stared in confusion. No one should be riding vehicles out this way, and friend 6 knows her bf wouldn't come out here without alerting us.
The vehicles stopped after surrounding us with their lights pointing right at us. We heard the familiar voices of guy Three, along with 4 new voices. He whined about how we hyurt his widdle feefees or something obnoxious. I tried to listen but it's just so hard to listen to some overgrown pissbaby go on about their fragile ego. Guys One and Two went to confront guy Three and his posse, asking why they didn’t wait at the car. Guy Three told them they wouldn’t understand because they’ve given themselves over to feminist ideas and allowed themselves to become beta cucks. He told them that simps deserve to die so other men won’t be warped by feminist witch pussy magic like they have… Like we just met these guys and he’s already acting like we had sex… This man's logic was like a runaway train, the cars are all there but they ain’t making it to their destination. Guys One and Two continue to argue with guys Three, Four, and Five, before guys Six and seven come up behind them and put knives to their necks. At this moment I noticed a gleam in guy Three’s eyes. He now thinks he’s invincible… I can see the depravity in his eyes as he looks upon friend Two, stripping her down in his mind, imagining all the sick things he’ll do. And as if to validate my suspicions, he walks up to her and says “You never did complete that dare… How about we start a new game… But this time we won’t have any need for truths.” I watch as fear washes over Two’s face, as she begins to imagine what he is implying, almost as if his depraved thoughts were being projected into her mind, instilling suffering on her before he had even begun to touch her. She catches herself, refusing to give him the satisfaction of fear and spits in his face. She then tells him “you couldn’t even please your hand with a prick that small.” The look of anger on his face was honestly delectable. If I could, I would put it on canvas and call it “Portrait of a Scorned Man” or “Man who just realized being a dick doesn’t make yours bigger”. ANYWAYS, he then began to yell something about "it's up to real men to show women their place in society!" OOO so angwy! They started circling around us like starving wolves. One of them placed themselves against friend Five’s back and said "I always wondered if trans women looked different down there." Which angered friend Five, but not as much as it did friend Four who tends to be a bit of a hot head.
Friend Four may look like a pretty cute petite princess, but she's manlier than most men I know. She's a competitive marksman, as well as being a gymrat who likes to build cars on the weekends. She's also the girlfriend of friend Five, not that that’s important but I feel like it should be important. So anyways, she starts blasting right? And one of these guys yells "what the fuck they’ve got funs!? Who the fuck gave these stupid bitches guns!?" I then hear one of them try to antagonize her by saying "pretty young thang like you shouldn't be carrying such a big piece until she's used to it! AYO!" So she shot a round off at the tree he took shelter behind as if to mock him by letting him know his life is in her hands… She looked like a real boss bitch, like for real! That girl is HIM! She has always been him, she will always be him! While this was taking place, friend Six reached out to her boyfriend now that we could finally use the radio without fear of them taking it. We explained what was happening and asked him to bring help. He told us to tie the button down and to hide it from sight so that he could listen in while he headed to the station to get help. I feel so bad for that man, having to listen to all those screams, feeling completely powerless to do anything in the moment, but we’re so thankful to him for being there in the way that he was.
Gun fire kept ringing out as Four kept firing rounds into the forests yelling “I shoot to maim!” and “You’re not safe here!” hoping to scare the men enough to make them retreat because none of them seemed to have rifles on them… But then we hear it… The first scream… Everyone freezes in their tracks, their heart stilled by this sudden shriek of terror that seemed to only further race towards the all consuming darkness. The moment it stopped nothing remained but the slow encroaching crawl of raindrops and the rapid beating drums of the fear in our hearts. It's then that the rain came down like a closing curtain on the chapter of our innocence, because that’s when we heard the second scream, a scream just as chilling as the first, ascending high into the tree tops before we see something that shocks everyone to their core; the haunting image of a man’s face still screaming, a face still unaware its going to meet, a face that still hopes to be saved but never will. Within unison, as if hell had a chorus, we all screamed in silence as we turned to run. With no other means of safety, my friends, guys One and Two, as well as myself ran for the tent. We don't really know what happened after we got into the tent, but not a second went by that we didn't think we wouldn't be next. We know better now, but in that moment I felt both relief and fear for my life. I just kept thinking how lucky I was that I was fortunate enough to die with my dignity still intact… I kept thinking "at least those man babies didn't get to do whatever depravity they had in mind"
Well by now everyone knows what happened, it's been on the news. Those 3 guys and all of their cronies turned up missing… But what the news won't tell you is that we were saved by Mama Makwa, we call her that due to the sounds we heard, as well as the site we saw afterwards. The bellowing sound of vengeance that came in the form of a bear’s roar was as loud as the mean screaming they saw a 9 ft tall bear with skin dripping off of its bone like fur. We later learned that men referred to it as “Slippy Skin” aka "Wejuk", as it seemed the bear would change appearance depending on who gazed upon its visage, but this was not "Wejuk". One by one, we heard those men scream for their lives, describing a creature with a mouth made of human hands that had palms covered by teeth shaped like hypodermic needles. It had claws that seemed like stone daggers that were etched by native americans. They warned each other "Don't look into its eyes!" before proclaiming how sorry they were for the things they'd done… They complained of the putrid stench suffocating them as they were pulled into its gaping maw. They screamed of the creatures rotting viscous flesh melting into their own, and making their skin a part of it, as if their skins were fuel for the fear this best could instill by its mere dominion over them. But we never saw that creature… Instead, after the screams stopped, we were greeted by this beautiful creature that looked like a bear, only it had this glow about it, and its fur seemed almost like the softest of opalescent feathers. Its eyes looked just like the aurora borealis, and she was mesmerizing. We felt safe, and welcomed, and most of all protected… After everything that happened, I think we will be coming back, because we know Mama Makwa will be there to protect us. We believe Mama Makwa is an avenging spirit born from the fear those women felt, here to make sure no other women ever have to suffer like they did within this forest. We also now understand why those men all went missing. My boyfriend and friend Two's husband weren't attacked by Mama Makwa… Only the men who felt any sort of ill intent toward us women that night saw Mama Makwa in that form, the form they confused for Slippy… But knowing there is a safe haven for women out there, I'm thinking we will have another girls night next year, anybody wanna come?

2024.05.16 00:46 Chewbongka At least 80 unmarked graves have been found at Miraflores Park in East Hill

Miraflores Park contains at least 80 unmarked graves, Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves announced the new total of graves discovered after a second survey of the park. The park is the location of a previously lost 19th-century cemetery that likely contains the bodies of African American community members that used to live there in the 1880s.
Research of historical documents indicates the site of Miraflores Park was used as a burial ground between 1884 to 1887.
The existence of the graves, combined with the historical documents, all but confirms that early 20th-century city officials intentionally removed any markers at the cemetery without exhuming and relocating those buried there.
The rediscovery of the cemetery happened when a troop of Boy Scouts cleaning the basement of the Boy Scout building in the park found skeletal remains in the dirt floor of the basement in 2021.
UWF biological anthropologists determined the bones belonged to two individuals, likely a woman in her late 30s or early 40s and a man in his 40s.
A previous survey of the park with ground-penetrating radar found 45 unmarked graves, but the survey indicated there were more outside of what historic documents indicated as the likely graveyard. The city conducted a second survey in an expanded area and found an additional 35 unmarked graves.
Reeves said more information on the survey results will be presented to the Miraflores Burial Ground Study Community Advisory Group. The group will make a recommendation on how the city should memorialize the existence of the unmarked cemetery in the city park.
The advisory group will meet at 10 a.m. Friday at City Hall.

2024.05.16 00:14 lolimdivine A non-murder case similar to the lipstick killer - Daniel Holtzclaw

the recent casual criminalist reminded me of this case. this one is more murky than the lipstick killer and really tests “reasonable doubt”. i had chat gpt create a summary but it really doesn’t do the case justice.
Daniel Holtzclaw, a former Oklahoma City police officer, was convicted in 2015 of multiple counts of rape and sexual assault. His case is controversial due to numerous inconsistencies and questionable investigative practices.
First, investigators found no prior history of misconduct or racism in Holtzclaw's background. Despite extensive interviews with acquaintances, ex-girlfriends, and colleagues, no one reported any inappropriate behavior. The victim profile was constructed based on assumptions rather than evidence, with detectives targeting African American women with histories of drug use and prostitution, even though the initial complainant did not fit this profile.
During interrogation, Holtzclaw was cooperative, offering DNA samples and access to his belongings, yet detectives failed to thoroughly search his personal items. They did not collect his underwear or search his personal vehicle, phone, or apartment, despite the serious allegations.
GPS evidence, which the prosecution claimed supported the allegations, often contradicted the accusers' stories. For instance, one accuser claimed she was raped in a location where the GPS data showed Holtzclaw never stopped. In another instance, GPS data disproved an accuser's claim about being driven to a particular location.
Out of 21 accusers, eight were immediately discredited because they alleged assaults after Holtzclaw had been placed on administrative leave. Of the remaining 13, five were not believed by the jury, resulting in acquittals. This means that 62% of the accusers were deemed not credible.
The DNA evidence was also controversial. Trace DNA from one accuser was found on Holtzclaw's uniform pants, but experts testified that it could have been transferred through non-criminal means, such as secondary transfer from patting down or searching the accuser. Additionally, male DNA found on the pants did not belong to Holtzclaw, but this was not disclosed at trial.
One accuser, Sherry Ellis, described her attacker as a "short, black man," in stark contrast to Holtzclaw, who is tall and pale. Another accuser, Terry Morris, initially identified a different officer and only changed her story after being pressured by detectives.
Furthermore, prosecutor Gayland Gieger falsely claimed to the jury that DNA from the accuser's vagina was transferred to Holtzclaw's pants, even though the prosecution's own expert testified that the source of the DNA could not be determined.
These inconsistencies and the prosecution's questionable tactics raise serious doubts about the integrity of Holtzclaw's conviction, suggesting that the investigation and trial were deeply flawed and calling for a reexamination of the case.

Mixing Traditions and Appearances
Based on other posts, some of you think i mix traditions and I do not. As much as i have shown my altars online, you will never Find my Shrines without their own Section or without a Visible partition.
Because all spirits from different traditions are different spirits even if they have the same name or same tribal root.
This is a foto i Found on a vodou Facebook page. I know nothing about this person, other than they have black Skin but i Will show you How i dissect it based on What i know.
Inside that glass bottle on his knee contains Alcohol, Visible peppers, Visible leaves and some other material inside. Só right off the bat, It’s not for ghede, It’s not african vodun because that is not How vodun bottles are constructed, It’s not quimbanda or jurema, and it’s not traditional isese Medicine because they do not usually use peppers Outside of ataare in their medicinal Preparations in Alcohol. The bottle is more characteristic of the drink called Chamba used in Cuban Palo Mayombe.
He has Custom lukumi (because brazilian and african style are not like that) beads in the Color Pattern of elegua around the bottle. Kolyes and bandera de Palo are not like that. You have similar lukumi beads of red black and white on the statue on the right.
On his wrist, you have an isese esu ide, an isese ifa ide, a Custom ide with 2 red beads and cowrie shells ??, a fabricated dice bracelet that is not usually seen in brazil but dice usually signify a malandro entidade within the umbanda, catimbo Systems, and a red ide for Egungun or oya (should be coral if oya).
To the left side in corner you have a elegua style beaded garabato cane. To the right, you have a plain exu ferramenta with angular trident configuration signifying a Brazilian Exu instead of the round trident for pomba gira. Yes there exist trident usage in other systems including gorovodou, mami wata, African Vodun in benin, togo, ghana as well as in some ogboni houses in nigeria but never in that configuration which has Brazilian umbanda/quimbanda origins and made by a Brazilian metal smith. Very cheap and sold in every city. The ferramenta is bare, unseated. And there is nothing with it.
The two statues are both bantu, the right being bakongo from central Africa holding a spear in protective configuration but with no cavity therefore, even though authentic and old, it was created for sale to tourists. Therefore it is not technically a minkisi nor alive. And the one on the left with the cowrie shell eyes at first glance gave the impression that it was a cuban replica but the wood is African and the cowrie shells are the species with the hard shell with righted only found in africa.
So looking at this display, this person is combining a lot of purchased items from multiple countries all together with no foundation behind it. He is trying to portray himself as an American palero and even a sad attempt at as a quimbandeiro but there is no settled shrine there. It is cosplay and since he is wearing 2 fictitous ides on his wrist, with the esu ide first, it makes me think all of it is fake.
Just showing how I know when someone is fake and/or doesn’t know what they are doing in various traditions in one photo.
I rarely explain all this when I give my conclusions, takes a lot of study and experience and I always divine before I open my mouth about another spiritualist on the internet, no matter who says what about whom.
I hope this is educational in identifying bad techniques and wrong altars in atrs.

2024.05.15 23:33 WorldNeverBreakMe Commented here last night about a Bigfoot theory I had, would like to get feedback.

Verbatim;
“ An issue with bringing back some very endangered animals is actually if they’ll be too inbred. I think that we’ve abandoned a species solely because of that danger on one occasion.
Bigfoot, if real, has a clearly undetermined range and breeding population. It’s not impossible to say that there’s a sizable amount, but I’d argue to say it’s around the amount humans and our close relatives have in situations of heavy isolation over millennia in an environment that limits population size.
In my opinion, Bigfoot is Australopithecus or Homo, maybe a Tchadensis or other early hominid. They shade the defining features we’ve had since Tchadensis, mostly upright posture, albeit hairier and larger than any known examples of these relatively small apes, and most definitely further specialized for stealth. If I had to guess, I’d say an early African exit of Homo Erectus or a previous/contemporary species that led it to convergently evolve with Paranthropus, leading to it able to grow larger in North America. The only other Bigfoot “species” I believe in is the Rock Apes of Vietnam, mostly because of the sightings from the Vietnam war which make sense to me.
I think that if these creatures share this origin, American ones would be rarer immediately. Paranthropus convergence makes sense for their mostly peaceful nature, and they definitely don’t eat much meat atleast. Their hairy covering is just an adaptation to mostly the Northern bits of North America, since they would have come from the Beiring land bridge. Their rareness would have been more of a mutually acknowledged environmental pressure that restricted their breeding habits, since they wouldn’t want to eat everything in a single area. Dispersal would be rare and over a large area to make sure tribes/families/individuals didn’t consume each other’s food and water supplies.
Pretty much, they have always been rare and we’ve probably killed very few. To me, they’re just extremely specialized hominids who live in a very strange way to us and are thusly not easy to find. I wouldn’t be surprised if they practiced funerary cannibalism, had designated areas to defecate at, and buried their dead in a ritualistic way, stemming from semi-sapient intelligence and knowledge of needing to hide from little men with no fur and thunder sticks. “
To add on, the Rock Ape is believable because during the Vietnam War, the sightings were short and always portrayed them in a territorial ape way. More aggressive, certainly, known to throw rocks during US Troop’s engagement with the VC mostly. They’re more chimp-like in description I guess is the term, being around the size of a man and a similar build to someone who works out for function instead of form.
I don’t believe in any other region’s reporting, Southeast Asia and most of North America is a perfect climate to stay hidden and also get some extremes out of humankind’s genetics.
There is also evidence Homo Erectus was in America before the Native American populations migrated here. Homo Erectus evolved 2 million years ago, it’s highly likely other culture groups of them have migrated previous to this very likely example. There were multiple “Out of Africa” events after all.
While native tribes have stories of “bigfoot”, there’s a video by Trey The Explainer that I find interesting going over why each of these stories are almost definitely reporting something else. I can see some being passed down long enough to muddy the water or just being based on an existing hominid, but most don’t have any grounds.

2024.05.15 23:23 Life_AmIRight At what point can you no longer blame the past?

At what point do you stop using your childhood to justify how you act?
At what point is it no longer your parents fault, but yours?
Some say there’s no time limit for healing. Which I think is true, but don’t you also have to stop licking your wounds?
——————-
I guess I bring up this question cause I’m 20F African American with a chronic illness and OCPD who has some family trauma, medical trauma, and has dealt with a lot of rejection socially, and I’m at this weird crossroads of giving up vs getting up.
Growing up I struggled really bad socially, so I decided “I’ll just focus on academics”. So I did, but then in high school I got sick, so that was over too. And with dealing with my chronic illness, I’ve been so stressed being stuck at home with my family without a way to get out essentially.
And in all the therapy and different psychiatric treatments I’ve had, a lot of my issues point back to my family and childhood experiences (like most do I think) But my parents will be like “I know you think this is all our fault, but it’s not” and that stumps me a little.
Cause if we look at the chain of events they’re the first chain; my past is the roots.
But do we blame the roots if the flowers get drowned in the rain? Or burned in the sun.
I’ve always been taught, “life is unfair; it is what it is, so move on” —- Is that too harsh? Or is it just a tough pill to swallow?

2024.05.15 22:14 Eastern_Painting_674 Am I cooked?

For the DBQ (set 1), I wrote that slavery caused sectional tensions socially, religiously and in government, dividing society for the lead up to the civil war. I used slavery’s emergence and importance in the South (and clash with the north’s commercialism) as my context. For the first paragraph, I used Doc. 4 and Doc. 6 to basically state that people had different views on the relation between God and slavery, which divided society. I later used Doc. 3 to state that slavery even caused debates in government that many recognized as a cause for future division of the Union. Lastly, I used Doc. 5 to state that people in society began to spurn each other for engaging in the act of slave trade, causing hostility and division. I furthered this by using Doc.2, stating that African Americans also began to spurn the hypocritical nature of American society and republican principles and refused to remain subdued. I used Nat Turner’s rebellion as an example of this. I also provided much outside evidence for the Missouri Compromise.
For LEQ 3, I stated that “While slavery took away from national culture,a national culture emerged from 1800-1848, in part because of the nationalism created by the War of 1812 but mostly because of the acquisition of land (Manifest Destiny) and unification of the economy under the American System. I went on how the War of 1812 unfied the US in nationalism for winning against Britain again, setting the stage for the emergence of national culture. I talked about how the national became more interconnected with the American System and how canals, roads, etc. allowed for the flow of ideas and unification. I later talked about how the nation unified in a desire to spread democracy and Protestant Christianity with Manifest Destiny. After that I kind of yapped and said that slavery created tensions and took away from this sense of national culture because some approved of it while others condemned it (tried to build complexity 😭)
Also I’m cooked for SAQ 1, but I said that the difference in argument was that the first person said women completely unified in the movement, but the second said middle class women dominated the movement. Is that right?

2024.05.15 21:55 Pretty_Drop4577 What's the deal with the FBA/ADOS community

I unfortunately interacted with one of their tweets, and now tweets from FBA pages are being slipped into my front page because of the algorithm. They claim to be advocates for repatriation policies and protecting the black American identity, but one comb through their page and all you will find is xenophobic tweets about African and Caribbean people. Oddly enough their is also little to zero mention about white people or white supremacy on their pages so I thought they were just white trolls pretending to be black but nope they are actually black. Like, I shit you not, one of these pages has a tweet that says boycott african braiding shop and no tweets on Roger Fortson.

2024.05.15 20:30 Inevitable-Barber556 Debate me: Micheal Jackson is the most famous musician ever (more than The Beatles and Elvis)

There most watched respective events: This will give us some perspective as to what their most viewed accolades were and or in the most raw Terms to gravity of their reach.
Most viewed Beatles event was according to Google was there Ed Sullivan show performance. https://www.edsullivan.com/the-night-that-changed-music-forever-the-beatles-american-debut-on-the-ed-sullivan-show-turns-60/#:~:text=Never%20before%20had%20the%20world,television%20event%20of%20its%20time. Clocking in at around 70 million views, impressive now what’s Michael’s?
Micheal Jackson’s most viewed music event was his Super Bowl event which was seen by 133 million people in the US and 755 million people worldwide https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_XXVII_halftime_show#:~:text=With%20a%20audience%20of%20133.4,his%20then%20current%20album%20Dangerous.
His most watched watched event was his funeral which is watched by 2.5 billion people making it the most watched non-sports event in history (Scroll to service then live broadcast for quote) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Jackson_memorial_service#:~:text=It%20was%20estimated%20that%20more,sports%20television%20broadcast%20in%20history.&text=The%20memorial%20service%20is%20the%20most%2Dwatched%20in%20online%20streaming%20history.
Degrees of widespread recognition: now this one’s a bit more anecdotal however I feel like I can justify my claim. One of the most known African songs “personally” Is a Micheal Jackson tribute song https://youtu.be/ttdU19Kwce8?si=Oci8OGJ5Yv6l4VMS
The biggest K-pop band and just band in the world right now, their most viewed song is basically a Micheal Jackson tribute https://youtu.be/gdZLi9oWNZg?si=TtAAxBxeU6JgZbF-
Bollywood as an industry has countless songs that I paid direct homage or is directly inspired by Michael Jackson
The biggest male artist in the world (Drake) in songs like first person shooter, too sexy and even in his Latest beef with Kendrick Lamar not only does he constantly reference Michael Jackson but he also has a Michael Jackson figure in the video (6:07) https://youtu.be/ZkXG3ZrXlbc?si=CkkzPzGkREWnFDrN (4:20) https://youtu.be/Xty2gi5cMa8?si=ZjJRvHqFWUd6RK15 (1:20) https://youtu.be/vX9msKu75qs?si=nSYWstQcSezh_Ro0 Yes, Drake has mentioned the Beatles once, however his references of Michael are far more frequent and indicative of what he considered the highest heights of the industry and who’s relevant
People in isolated tribes in the Amazon are not aware of football and/or football players and the biggest ones at the top however they all know Michael Jackson. (3:31) https://youtu.be/eafOkWXjqjc?si=jtlIKTizwfcQZC3g
As an African myself I can contest that everybody knows who Michael Jackson is however very few people know who the Beatles are in Nigeria any few of them can name the members names or can even list the songs.
YouTube stats MJ has 30 million subscribers and if fuse ranges from between 800,000,000 to 1,000,000,000 typically speaking. Highest being 1.5b https://youtu.be/Zi_XLOBDo_Y?si=vbOaC-oSCvxBpx67
The Beatles have 8 million subscribers I’ve used typically raging between the tens to hundreds of millions to highest being 400 million https://youtu.be/NCtzkaL2t_Y?si=9mVePlEbkbD2PlKD
Modern era streams: Michael Jackson has 42 million million monthly listeners The Beatles have 30 million monthly listeners (this is to addition that there is a Disney special for the Beatles right now)
Pound for pound sales: This is the only category that fans of the Beatles like to use as it justifying metric 294 certified compared to Michael’s 289 certified. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_music_artists
However, how accurate is this list? Pound for pound Thriller (1982) - 70 million copies is more than double the Beatles best selling album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) - 32 million copies Michael Jacksons second best selling album is more sold than the Beatles best selling album (Bad (1987) - 35 million copies) Michael’s third bestselling album is equal to the Beatles best selling album (Dangerous (32 million).
Michael Jackson's ten best-selling albums collectively sold more than The Beatles' ten best-selling albums, with totals of 215.5 million and 142 million, respectively. The Beatles order so why does the Beatles have higher sales? Simple Beatles fans love to say how the Beatles have only been bad for like seven years plus years, however they released a total of 68 albums (studio, live, compilations, and box sets). Compared to Michael’s 22 (studio and compilations) plus additional live and remix albums. So even by the most crude metric of albums, Michael’s actually sold more
Why I didn’t discuss Elvis much:
Why I didn’t bring up Elvis as much as simple as metrics pale in comparison to the other two only has about 22 million monthly listeners on Spotify And this is after the movie he’s so blessed than Michael Jackson and The Beatles and shouldn’t even be a huge revelation but he didn’t tour outside of America so he’s not that known in many countries. In this TikTok were by Michael Jackson was placed in the top tree most famous people of all time and Elvis was in the top 10. The comments constantly kept referring to how nobody know who Elvis was outside of America and the West (Read the comments) https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGeCgXvtH/
Now why is Micheal Jackson the most famous musical act ever (and why this may never be replicated again) 1. The population of the world was far bigger with Michael Jackson was alive and active compared to when the Beatles and Elvis were active all while media was still largely monocultural
  1. media by this time as well was far more globalised more people outside of the west had access to media.
  2. Michael Jackson broke down racial barriers people who are white and people who are not white could all relate to Michael Jackson this is never really been done before to the same degree as Michael. Despite black Americans inventing every single popular music genre there was never one mega huge black artist and MTV still refused to play black musicians. that along with Michael’s music being very visual compared to his counterparts along with the many allegations that polluted his life, his iconography became stabilised everywhere
  3. This will never happen again because culture is far more fragmented now because of the Internet allowing people to stay in their little bubbles consuming whatever is on the TV it’s not a definitive way of consuming media take the biggest art in the world right now Taylor Swift Drake BTS Bad Bunny the Weeknd, Adele, Burna Boy, Ed Sheeran and Rihanna and Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar. Only Drake and Rihanna have both Cross border appeal and wide range of age appeal however Rihanna and Drake will probably (probably) never reached the success of who knows and yes, I think both and Beyoncé are more famous than Taylor Swift worldwide.
If anyone disagrees, let me know

(New player here) I was scoping with one of my rifles for alligators southeast of Rhodes and way in the distance (no red indicator on the rifle) I could have sworn I saw an african american man being coiled and dragged into the swamp. I did not see one of those encounter markers on the mini map but I went galloping off towards what I thought I saw and when I got there I could find nothing.

2024.05.15 19:36 micktalian The Gardens of Deathworlders (Part 72)

Part 72 Gene mods (Part 1) (Part 71)
[Support me on Ko-fi so I can get some character commissions done and totally not buy more Gundams]
“Alright, calm down. It's really not that serious.” Though the holographic representation of War Chief Neshkaname, complete with ocean blue eyes and linear facial tattoos on his tan face, looked quite noticeably tired, his overall demeanor seemed fairly positive. “I just got out of a meeting with representatives from the different protesting groups and all of them agree with the general idea of what we're trying to do with our united defense fleet. There's just quite a bit of disagreement about how our Confederacy should approach the questions related to Earth, Mars, and everyone in Sol.”
“What kind of questions are we talking about here?” General Robert Andrews, the now former General of the US Army, was the first to speak up amongst the crowd of military leaders. “Nothing about invading Earth, I hope.”
“Well…” Though Rob was only half serious about his comment concerning Earth, the way the commanding officer of the Nishnabe Militia’s Blue Fleet began his response put a genuinely concerned expression on a few faces from Sol. “It's only a small percent of our population who are calling for war to reclaim land. A few million people at most, none of whom hold any positions of leadership in our military. Luckily, there are far more people calling for boycotts, embargoes, or blockades as opposed to anything direct.”
“War Chief, to many governments on Earth, an embargo, and especially a blockade, would be considered akin to a direct declaration of war.” General Renee Descartes, the former Chief of Defense Staff of France and Second in Command of the European Union's Unified Military, despite the dark bags under her eyes implying she hadn't gotten anywhere near enough sleep before this meeting, retained her rather elegant poise when adding that bit of necessary context. “You see, the economy of Earth is highly reliant on importing raw materials from space. With the climate being as delicate as it is, no one is willing to risk the kinds of planetside resource harvesting necessary to keep the thirteen billion people in the Earth’s Sphere of Influence employed, fed, and happy. More importantly, we are starting to run out of easily accessible mineral deposits in space.”
“Yes, the lunar mines and the near-Earth asteroid colonies still under UN-E control simply aren't producing nearly enough material to meet growing demand.” Admiral Nathaniel Adeoye, who had also given up his position as the Chief of Astral Naval Staff of the African Federation, chimed in with a clearly worried tone in his deep voice. “While I can understand the rage some of your people must feel, especially towards Americans, the many different people of Africa were in no way responsible for the colonization of America. In fact, we were subject to colonialism ourselves.”
“At least y'all still got yahr homelands!” Commandant General Daniel Chasinghorse, the former Commander of the entirety of MarsGov's Void-Marine Corps, didn't mean for his statement directed at Adeoye to sound as vitriolic as it did. However, the idea of him, his Lakota people, and all the displaced Native American Nations who were now mostly living in space or on Mars potentially being included in the Nishnabe’s reasonably negative reaction towards the people of Earth had put him on edge. “Sorry for snappin’ at yah like that, Nate. But the people livin’ on Mars ain't nothin’ done to deserve bein’ restricted by an embargo or blockade. We need all the extra-Solar tech we can get if we're gonna keep our population's health from declining even further. And I’m sure the African Lunar colonies could really use that medical and gravity tech too!”
“Nothing's been decided yet, and most people on Shkegpewen want peace, we just haven't reached a consensus on how that peace will look.” War Chief Msko Pkwenech, the commander of the Nishnabe Militia’s Red Fleet, interjected while making an open gesture with his hands to try to pat down the tension building up in this meeting room. “And if helps at all, we did take quite a few public votes concerning technology sharing for things we consider essential. But Maser probably has quicker access to the results than I would.”
“About ninety percent of respondents voted to immediately authorize and start sending out medical and gravity tech, including a production ship to come out and make things in-system, which is well above the seventy-five percent consensus needed to move forward.” As soon as the Light-born AI holographically representing their consciousness as an androgynous human began to speak in an incredibly soothing tone, the stress levels in the room began to fall. “There are currently a few councils debating the finer details and arranging logistics of what will be sent. However, the specifics of who gets what and when they get it will be negotiated between the respective governments in Sol and the Nishnabe Intergovernmental Council. Our job as the United Human Defense Fleet is not to interfere with diplomacy between nations, just to ensure that diplomacy is handled in a reasonable and non-threatening manner. Now, with that said, the vote to provide essential assistance was just one if a few taken over the last couple weeks. And while that poll was overwhelming and definitive, the ones concerning visas, immigration, galactic trade, and interspecies relations all fell below the consensus threshold for the Confederacy to adopt an official policy. When we say embargoes and blockades, we are purely referring to trade interactions between species, not between humanity and your economic exclusive zone. Once the relevant councils develop updated options for people to vote on, the next vote will be held.”
“An’ how long's all that gonna take?” Commandant Admiral Carol Nez, as the former head of MarsGov’s Astral Intelligence Collective and Councilmember in the Navajo Nation of Mars, was keenly aware of both the pressing urge of many on the red planet to live on a world with a breathable atmosphere and how just long it often took to for Native Nations to build a consensus. “Everaday we got at least a thousand babies born in Martian maternity stations an’ at least thirty percent ‘ave some kinda health issues. The sooner we get y'all's medical tech, the more kids that're gonna grow up to be happy an’ healthy!”
“We are well aware of the negative health implications of trying to raise children in low-gravity.” Msko already had his tablet out and was in the process of sending over the relevant information to his counterparts from Earth and Mars. “Our genetic modification technologies require individualized sequencing but they can be applied before or after birth to correct any serious issues. They can even be used well into adulthood. I got my eye color changed when I became an adult, so we can help anyone who hasn’t already gotten cybernetic replacements for affected body parts. All of our ships still in Sol are actively trying to produce as much of the base materials as they can and are working with doctors from your stations to get everything deployed as quickly as possible.”
“Why don’cha just teach our docs how to do it?” As soon as Carol got the question out, Msko and Nesh shot each other cautious glances before they both looked towards Maser.
“Well, Commandant Admiral Nez…” As soon as the hologram of the AI began to speak, it was clear their words were directed at everyone present from Sol. “To be completely blunt with all of you, we have reason to believe that the moment people from either Mars or Earth got full access to the genetic manipulation technology the Nishnabe utilize, someone would begin conducting experiments to turn humans into living weapons even more dangerous than the cybernetic ones you already produce. The cybernetics sported by many of your civilians would be legally considered military-grade combat modifications, and individuals with those cybernetics would be barred from entering many GCC standard space stations. We know there are doctors within both UN-E and MarsGov already working on projects to modify your species genome to produce what you call super soldiers, which something which is generally highly illegal under GCC laws. In fact, the genetic manipulation done to Sarah and Johnathan McAfree would likely be considered combat adjacent modifications according to GCC standards, and they would also be subject to various limitations due to their enhanced physiology.”
“Hey, now! Spooky an’ ‘er brother ain’t that scary!” Though he had been spending most of this meeting quietly sitting in his corner of the round table and trying to stay out of things he considered to be beyond his expertise, Professor Mikhail T. River felt compelled to say something now that his ex and her brother had been brought up. “Sure, she can bench press me. An’ Johnny can pick up the stove to sweep under it. But that ain't the gnarliest I ever seen! I mean, jus’ look at Comandante Harrison over here!”
/----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While the members of the United Human Defense Fleet Council were in their meeting and discussing the rumors of Nishnabe protests Sarah had also caught wind of, that was far above her paygrade. Despite a tinge of concern fluttering away in the back of the unusually tall and rather athletically built Scotswoman’s mind, she wasn't worried about the things she had no control over. At the moment, she, her rather short and somewhat pudgy mother, and her colossal but cognitively limited brother were relaxing in the stables of the opulent nature area aboard UHDF DS-1 and spending time with the unicorn-like kaehi'xito that Mik had gifted to them. Though the three gingers were each busy with different things most of the day, Donna and Johnny with their Nishnabemwin and remote job training courses while Sarah performed her role as an intelligence analyst, the small family from Glasgow truly cherished this time they got to spend together. And the fact they were bonding with the closest living creatures in the galaxy to unicorns only made this even better for all of them.
“Hey Sarah! There you are!” As soon as Miakorva's voice called out from the entrance to the stable building, Sarah, her family, and the three unicorn-like creatures turned to see the Qui’ztar approaching them with familiar canine at her side. “And look who I found wandering around the ship! Did you know that Mikhail lets her walk around unsupervised?”
“Hiya Mia!” Being the closest to the entrance, Johnny was the first to greet the lanky and seemingly muscular blue woman before he crouched down low and extended a hand towards the Cane Corso. “An’ Micky lets her roam cuz she's a good girlie. Isn't tha’ righ’, Terry?”
“Terry Good dog!” Terry’s soft but deep whine was translated by her collar while she approached the man with her tail vigorously wagging.
“Terry's a trained station guard dog, Mia.” Sarah added while shooting the Qui’ztar intelligence officer a cheeky wink and coy smile. “It's ‘er job to wander a station, ‘r in this case a ship, an’ be on the lookout for trouble. An’ now that she can talk, she's a perfect workin’ animal. But wha’s up? Were yah lookin’ for me?”
“Oh, yes. Yes, I was. But… uh…” Mia paused for a moment as she watched the massive beast of a dog place her paws on Johnny's shoulders and begin licking the man's face as if he had smothered some kind of invisible but quite tasty treat across his skin. “Isn’t there a concern that Terry may… Well… Hurt someone? Her species are non-sapient apex predators with strong hunting instincts, correct?”
“Tha's why she and most other workin’ dogs ‘re so well trained, love.” Donna replied with a giggle, the adorable display of affection between her son and Mik's dog forcing a massive smile across her freckled and slightly wrinkled face. “There's always a bit o’ risk with dogs, especially the biggins like Terry ‘ere. But if these unicorns aren't freakin’ out cuz o’ ‘er, then we don’ gotta be worried.”
“Kaehi'xito didn’t evolve with canine predators, so they likely don't even recognize her as a potential threat.” As Mia watched the beast of a dog lean more of her weight on to Johnny, she half expected the large and well-built man to fall over from the force. However, much to her surprise, the man stopped his energetic scratching on Terry's sides, wrapped his arms around her waist, and effortlessly lifted the gargantuan animal into the air, all the while it continued to lick his face. “But seeing you carry that creature like a baby would be enough to make almost anyone with caniphobia be cautiously curious about these creatures. And they must not be as heavy as they look if you can pick one up so easily.”
“Oh, Terry’s a thickin! At least fifteen stone!” In a motion that seemed in utter opposition to Johnny's comment, the man half-tossed the Cane Corso into the air so that he could reposition his hands to cradle the massive canine as if she were a literal baby. “But she's still a good lil pupper, ain't yah, Terry?”
“Terry, good baby!” Though Terry hadn't started flailing or showing any obvious signs of discomfort, she suddenly turned her head towards Sarah with a longing look in her golden eyes. “Pack-mother cuddle?”
“Yeah, sure, yah big ol’ lunk.”
Though Mia could believe a man as impressively large as Johnny may not have much difficulty in lifting a hundred kilo canine, she was completely flabbergasted by Sarah's ability to simply pull Terry from Johnny's grasp and continue to hold the animal up without even the slightest indication of strain. Not only had she just gotten confirmation that this creature was just as heavy as she thought, Miakorva was now being faced with the fact that the woman she had been cuddling with a night for quite some time was significantly stronger than she had realized. According to all the interspecies education she had received, which may have been slightly biased by the Qui’ztar professor teaching the courses, her own species had the highest ratio of strength to body mass of any Ascended species. And while she was aware that this woman she had formed a relationship with weighed about the same as she did despite being several centimeters shorter, Mia had yet to witness Sarah's capabilities demonstrated in such a casual manner.
“By the Matriarch, Sarah!” The lanky blue woman couldn't help herself as her bioluminescent freckles lit up at the shocking display of strength. “How are you that strong?!?”
“Gene mods.” Though Sarah didn't hesitate in her answer, she did wince slightly as she did so. “Me muscles’re almost twice as dense as the average human's. Tha's actually somethin’ I had to talk to Maser an’ NAN abou’ the other day. ‘Parently tha’ ain't a thing most species do for some reason. Bu’ I'm pre’y sure we talked abou’ tha’ already.”
“You did mention it but… Well… I didn't realize your people's genetic engineering was that sophisticated. But I guess that does confirm a couple of the rumors I've heard that I was going to ask you about.”
“Wha’ rumors?” Donna blurted out with a bit too defensive of a tone as her eyes fell upon her son who had gone back to brushing his vaguely moose-like unicorn. “An’ who's spreadin’ ‘em?”
“Well…” Mia hesitated for a moment, causing the two Scotswomen to shoot her suspicious looks. “I was assisting with the logistical planning with the Nishnabe in charge of the distribution of medicine to people on Earth and Mars, most of which involved genetic modification serums. And when I asked why there was no plan, or even consideration, of passing on the technology so it could be locally produced, the people I was working with told me there were rumors of… Well… My people would call it Qui'kijarto niko'txo, which would roughly translate to an enhanced soldier project.”
“Yahr people tried to make super soldiers, too?” Sarah asked with a laugh that implied a sense of relief.
“No!” The instant denial caused Sarah to cease her laughter and forced a slight frown on her rather pale and freckled face. “As soon as my people began developing genetic engineering almost thirty thousand years ago, our government and scientific community came together to completely outlaw any attempts to enhance our form in a way that would make us even deadlier in combat. Besides that, even after thirty thousand years of research, we have only recently mastered the ability to stabilize our genetics and guard against speciation due to diverse environmental conditions.”
“Yah really tryin to tell us yahr people never tried to improve themselves?” The older Scotswoman chimed in with a clearly doubtful expression. “No one ever tried to give their kids an advantage in life? Super soldiers experiments ain't the only thing we use gene modding for.”
“Well… No… I don’t believe we ever have.” Mia hadn't really put much thought into it, even when she and Sarah had talked about it before. But now she was starting to realize that an attempt to give a child an advantage in life by increasing their physical capabilities could directly translate to turning that child into an ideal soldier. “As far as I know, very few other species have engaged in that form of genetic modification. And the ones who have tried struggled to produce anything truly successful.”
“Gene mods ain't always successful, Mia.” Johnny didn't bother to look away from the unicorn he was brushing as he made the comment lest he see the sadness that suddenly appeared in his mother's eyes. “Bu’ I learned the other day tha’ Nishnabe gene tech is way better than wha’ we got on Earth. Maybe they'll ‘ave some stuff to teach us after they feel we're trustworthy enough to learn it.”

2024.05.15 19:13 Same_Nobody8669 Is Serving for Me??

So I recently spent the past month and a half working as a banquet server. Though it was mainly weddings. I have horror stories going on for days about drunken rude guest, being shoulder checked, being slapped on the hand by a man who thought I was reaching to take their plate ( I was reaching to refill their water). I realize rather quickly that wedding guest are extremely entitled. And it’s fairly obvious which of them have not been in nicer establishments. As they tend to act how they “think” that wealthy people act. I didn’t last there very long. I just could not take days in a row of not getting a simple “thank you“. I feel like it is important context that I am African-American. I’m sure I just got an eye roll or two, but oh well. Unfortunately the social dynamic of our country bleeds into every aspect of life. And one of my biggest turnoffs was watching how the guest treated some of my coworkers, in comparison to how they treated me, even though we all were working the same position.
For background, my only prior experience to serving was at a well known five star hotel. Those guests were wealthy and had quite literally nothing to prove. They were some of the kindest people I’ve ever met. I can’t even recall a super horror story from working. And one of my biggest turnoffs was watching how the guest treated some of my coworkers, in comparison to how they treated me, even though we all were working the same position.
Anyways. I say all of that to say, I believe both experiences were not of the “norm” when it comes to serving. Who knows maybe restaurant crowds are different. I know it also varies, depending on the restaurant itself, and area. But I like to believe that serving would be a decent side hustle for me and maybe I’ve just had unique experiences?
Hopefully someone was able to follow along and can give me some advice. Is serving for me?

2024.05.15 19:11 Solid-Boat-7793 16 hours solo in Casablanca, is it worth it?

I am a 27F US citizen hoping to travel to Accra Ghana this August. I am also a lighter skinned African American. It is a little last minute but I am celebrating a very sudden, yet happy occasion and I already have two weeks paid time off from work in August. The cheapest and best flight option I could find is $1300 round trip with Royal Air Marco with a 16 hour layover during the day in Casablanca. (I realize that for West Africa this price is still on the cheaper side) I have never been to Morocco and have heard mixed things about this place for solo female travellers. I was thinking of hiring a driver to meet me at the airport and do some site seeing in the city before my connecting flight takes off late at night. Because my connecting flight takes off at night, I will not be looking for sleeping accommodation. I am okay with French, I know it well enough to have one-on-one conversations but I cannot understand well enough in groups.
I've never travelled completely solo before! I have one small solo trip planned for Canada this summer and I will mostly be solo in Ghana however I have a friend that lives there and I have travelled to West Africa before. Usually when I travel I am staying with friends or with a group but I always go out and do a few activities on my own. Is it safe to explore Casablanca or would it be easier to just chill at an airport lounge all day?

2024.05.15 19:05 Soggy-Room-6273 box braids form into locs?

I have 3b-3c hair and sooner or later ill be getting a crochet but im wondering if you leave on box braids for a while will it loc?
I live in a island where theres absolutely no loctician, no one knows how to do african american hair, and ive been doing finger coils and two strand twists without rubber bands because i find it difficult to band it by myself. Yet, id do my coils or twists unprofessionally so every 7-10 weeks eventually get too much frizzy to the point its a lump of frizz on my head and untwisted two strand or more curly than coily finger coils.
Since braids are more known around here im able to get them by a professional so please let me know.

2024.05.15 18:55 Unhappy-Jaguar-9362 More shenanigans that took place in Catholic school and other venues

Sister Pat tried to make vivid certain stories from the Gospels by setting up groups that were to frame the events as if the participants in the events were being interviewed live on television. Ok, one might think, how creative. Yet, one group was assigned to do the scenario of Jesus carrying the cross. A couple of girls pretended to cry into handkerchiefs, but one unpleasant girl, when asked by the student playing the reporter why she was there, she snarled, "I came to mock him. Ha!" Way too much into it.
The processional hymn for the May Crowning was Sing of Mary. Because of its specific rhythm, we ended up practically skipping and waltzing.
At an Easter Vigil Mass many years later my brother Steve Grunow before he became a priest, someone (I must say probably a folk guitar nun like Sister Pat), came up with the idea to have an elderly African American gentleman read the creation story with embellishments I think from some folk tale version? So he was saying that God was on his throne with a crown of stars and he got lost and kept repeating it, then he started saying Glory to God, and finally, I don't know what I am doing. He had to led down from the lectern. We did not know whether to laugh or cry. Mortifying.
Later at the Mass a woman who looked like Maude practically shouted one of the readings. There were several catechumens receiving sacraments for the first time at this Mass.
At one point during their reception into the Church we started saying the Litany of the Saints. Then I started hearing Saint Sandy, pray for us. Saint Tiffany, pray for us. What? So the catechumens were saints? Or perhaps we were supposed to think of them as potential saints?
Monsignor Hayes burped very loudly after drinking the wine when I was serving at a daily Mass. He also yelled at a class because they did not know Hail Holy Queen. My mother when we told her, said, we'll, I don't know it either.
Kids routinely fainted during the Benediction after the Stations of the Cross on Fridays during Lent.
Sister Betty split us into groups during religion class. We were supposed to act out Jesus telling everyone the temple would be destroyed in three days. Kids were knocking down stacks of books and stacks of wastebasket.
One day it was raining so instead of gym outside we had board game period with Sister Betty. The period was short so there was barely any time to set up, much less play the games. One group of jock boys decided to play the game of Life which takes a while to set up. Suddenly we were told to put the games away. This group frantically threw everything back in the box with the spinner on top, causing a bulge when they put the lid back on. Sister Betty noticed and yelled, "Fix that game. It's lumpy!"
