2024.05.16 23:39 OriginalFangsta When did life start getting fun for you?
Due to home life I've been working since I was 16 and paying for all of my necessities since then, so that responsibility + a lack of financial intelligence + bad employment prospects has led to me being pretty broke most of the time since I was a teen. Sure, I could have done a lot better financially if I was willing to tolerate "exploitative" conditions (Half of the jobs I've had I've never been paid in full for my hours) in the jobs I worked at when I was younger, but that probably would not have been great for my well being.
So now it's been about 8 years of always being on edge about money. The last couple of years have been a bit nicer because for first time I've felt comfortable enough to spend on food properly, I've gained almost 20kgs of healthy weight. Otherwise though it feels pretty weird to look at other people spend "normally" and replace things as they need, while I am still currently wearing a hoody I found at the park when I was 15.
Anyway, I am graduating from university soon, which is great on paper. Honestly I am pretty neutral about the whole thing. I'm dreading getting a graduate role and having to go through the hiring process. I am not super passionate about what I am doing, more so I am passionate about stable employment and comfortable working conditions, where I am not treated like a donkey. Obviously that attitude is not what makes people hire you, but that is truthfully how I feel. In a lot of ways I'd feel more comfortable getting back into labouring jobs, where you can get hired based upon showing good work ethic for a day. It feels a lot more genuine.
I know once I stick it out and start reap the rewards of my efforts things will start to feel better, however I've spent so long not even thinking about what I feel at all, and always just trying to get through to the next thing that seems like it will be objectively beneficial. When I get x job, things will get better, when I finish this semester, you'll be a bit closer, and it'll get easier etc.
In someways it seemed a lot easier a couple of years ago just be super broke and worry about flipping some item so I could afford some good food. At least I didn't have to stress about upward traction, which doesn't even guarantee you'll be happier. All of my friends in their fancy graduate jobs seem so apathetic towards their own accomplishments. It's seems unlikely i'll regret my choices down the line, increased employment opportunities is great and decreases stress. At the same time though, if things don't directly increase your happiness I am not always sure it is worthwhile.
I've noticed recently my mind keeps jumping back to my best memories, which are just of me playing video games as a kid. Seems ironic to go through such a hassle of increasing my stresses to minimize my stresses at a later day so I'll be able to play video games stress-free again.

2024.05.16 22:14 CaptainCyro My idea for a Miitopia TV show
Now, as you may know Nintendo series like Mario and Kirby got TV shows, now this has me wondering, what if Miitopia got a TV show, so for that, I have some ideas for it, so I felt like sharing it with you. So the fan of the games can easily understand the plot. Although most episodes will focus on the cast and their goal to save Miitopia, I'll hope include some episodes that'll help character grow and develop. Character cast: Now my idea for a cast is that I'll follow one of Miitopia's best features, being able to put in any character in the story, now I'll only have one original character, being the protagonist, other that that, all other characters would've already exist, now due to copyright, I'll only cast Nintendo characters to fill the roles , I'll also might include some Pokemon characters since Gamefreak is close to Nintendo and some celebrities [Like youtubers, voice actors, etc] here and there, so if you don't like it my casting or think the Pokemon characters will lead to copyright, you can type your own cast down below. So let the madness and fun begin. The cast: Carefree Guide: Mario Cheery Granny: Gardevoir Sassy Child: Goomba Worried Mother: Indeedee Lovely-Dovey Couple: Ash and Serena Sarcastic Guy: Toad Dubious Mayor: Luigi Dark Lord: Louie Roving Photographer: Koopa Quizmaster: Orbeetle Prodigious Postman: Pelipper Roaming Gourmet: Kirby Serious Soldier: Boo Lax Soldier: Monty Mole Royal Supports: Bandana Dee and Escargoon King: King Dedede Princess: Lana Prince from Neksdor: Bulborb Besmirched Noble's Son: Waddle Dee Great Sage: Aphmau Genie: Spike Dancing Guide: Oricorio Rambling Old Man: Jack Black Shady Merchant Family: Toadette and Garos Worried Explorer: Bowser Prickly Couple: Inkling Boy and Girl Desert Celebrity: Chris Pratt Fab Faries: Peach, Daisy and Rosalina Injured Elf: Yellow Pikmin Fab Fairies fans: Regice, Regirock and Registeel Scaredy-Cat: Torracat Green-Eyed Lady: Zelda Lazybones: Ice Pikmin Mischievous Witch: Meowscarada Town Guide: Blue Pikmin Scholary Pioneer: Donkey Kong Dark Curse: Vanillite The Protangonist: Name: Gideon Description: Gideon is a traveling comedian who although laid back, loves to entertain people and make them smile, he went to Miitopia has it heard it was in a bad shape and he thought it meant that Miitopia needed cheering up, although he has a good heart, being laid-back his laziness limits his capabilities where it often leads to him not doing something at his best. After meeting the guardian spirit, he was given the powers of a mage, in Neksdor when Louie sealed away his powers he became a warrior, and in Realm of the Fey when his powers were sealed away again, he became a thief and when his powers were no longer sealed away, he became a wizard once more. Greenhorne Allies: Mallow: Class: Chef Description: Mallow left Alola soon after hearing about the culinary cuisine of Miitopia so she set off to learn the recipes of Miitopia dishes with her family. Sadly soon after reaching Miitopia, she and her family were attacked by the Dark Lord resulting in her family losing their faces and the ambush caused her and her Tsareena to seperate. Now wanting to save them, she wanders around Miitopia look to save her family Steve [Red Pikmin]: Class: Warrior Description: Steve grew up on a long lost land, and is the best knight in his habitat. He left his natural habitat to find a purpose as he felt like his talents were wasting away, so after hearing Miitopia was in danger, he knew what he had to do, he rose to the challenge and set sail for Miitopia. But his main flaw is that he thinks highly of himself and tries to lift super heavy things on his own with little to no success. Nabbit: Class: Theif Description: The infamous thief of the Mushroom Kingdom was able to steal anything and not get caught, so in his hideout, he read of an amulet that grants insane power to control an army, and after turning on the TV, he soon saw the Dark Lord wearing the same amulet, so he set for Miitopia to retrieve the powerful artifact so he can make monsters to steal anything and is capable of reaching high speeds due to his insane energy. Meloetta: Class: Pop Star Description: During her time in Unova, Meloetta was caught by a kind and caring local singer, and soon after, Meloetta and her trainer were the best singers in Unova dropping amazing albums left and right, they came to Miitopia after receiving an invitation to perform a concert but after landing there and got to the meeting spot, it was a trap set by the Dark Lord to use the Mythical's face to make an extremely powerful monster. But her trainer was able to distract him long enough for him to escape, last thing Meloetta saw was the Dark Lord stealing her trainers faces. Being a kind soul, she often tries to stop quarrels and fights and most of the time she's the voice of reason. Neksdor Allies: Olimar: Class: Scientist Description: Olimar and his family set off for Miitopia after hearing it's excellent vacation spots, but soon after landing there, his family's faces were snagged by his coworker Louie, not wanting to be next, he hid until Louie left, and set off to save his family and stop Louie. Despite his divine magic his lack of intellect gets in the way leading to dumb scenarios. Ice Cream Sandwich: Class: Imp Description: While in his house, he hears of a land called Miitopia, where it has an animation contest in Neksdor where whoever wins gets a huge cash prize, so he invited his friends, and dog along and soon set off for Miitopia, where during the time he was there, he had a good time, eating snacks, hanging with the boys, messing around. Until after the competition where the winner was about the being announced, the event is quickly interrupted by the Dark Lord where he starts stealing everyone's faces, him, his dog and his friends went to hide in the bathroom since according to his brain, everyone knocks before entering the bathroom, before anyone said something, the Dark Lord busted in and stole his friends' faces and his dog, after checking if the Dark Lord was gone, he swore vengeance, so went around hoping to find people to help him Rock Pikmin: Name: Rocky Class: Cat Description: On Rocky's natural habitat he owned a cat sanctuary, where he helped felines find forever homes and learned how to fight like a cat, so he after hearing about the exclusive cat breeds on Miitopia, he soon set off with his friend Purp but soon after the Dark Lord stole his cat Terry, him and his friend wanted revenge, but just with Purp's healing magic and his feline abilities, it wouldn't be enough, so the set off for heroes to find so they could help them. Throughout the series, Rocky suffers from an extreme lack of IQ so he needs help when it comes to situations that require intellect to solve. And together with Icecreamsandwich and Purp, the three often do dumb stuff together and get into all sorts of trouble. Realm of the Fey Allies: Tsareena: Class: Princess Description: After soon being seperated from Mallow, Tsareena ended up in Realm of the Fey, lost and not knowing where to go, soon she met up with a potion, thirsty and out of options, she drank it where it granted her the magically abilities of royalty. Lilligant: Class: Flower Description: After stowing away on a cargo ship from Unova to Miitopia, Lilligant started exploring Miitopia and ended up in Realm of the Fey, so after befriending the local elves, she learnt the ways of harnessing the power of nature and really bonded with them, but after hiding when the Dark Lord attacked, she started to leave and set off to retrieve her friends and quickly met up with the protangonist. Golurk: Class: Tank Description: After hearing about Miitopia's situation, a bunch of Unova scientist got together and turned a Golurk into a weapon of mass destruction and was quickly shipped to Miitopia, after landing there, he started looking for the Dark Lord, and soon got orders from his creators to wait by a local inn to receive some allies to help him. During battle, Golurk will stop at nothing to defeat his opponents, even if it means firing his allies and shooting everywhere to ensure victory. He thinks he doesn't need help and often refuses assistance believing he can be a big shot and do it himself. Other Allies: Litwick: Class: Vampire Description: Litwick was caught by a vampire on vacation in Unova and the two quickly bonded. While in the land of Peculia, Litwick lived a simple life with his trainer in their mansion and his trainer taught Litwick vampire like abilities, until the Darker Lordsent a rat infestation in there, Litwick's trainer told him to get help to stop the rat invasion, soon he quickly met up with the protagonist and quickly asked him for help and after they agreed, they set off and during the journey Litwick quickly bonded with the team and after the rats were defeated, his trainer noticed his bond with the team and told them that if he wanted to go with them he wouldn't stop him, so Litwick quickly joined the party, and during his time in it, he often pulled pranks on his team and during battle, he likes to mix in fun by toying with his opponents and he calls them, his prey. Alchremie: Class: Elf Description: Alchremie lived in Peculia with a baker and together they made sweets for lotsa people. But after the Darker lord stole her trainer's face, she swore revenge, she went off to realm of the Fey to study the ways of elf magic and after learning the elf magic he returned to Peculia to look for her trainer's face soon after seeing the protagonist and his team struggle against a monster with her trainer's face, she went to the rescue and defeated the boss with ease. After her trainer got his face back Alchremie asked him if she could travel with the team to stop the Darker Lord, and her trainer quickly agreed. After this the team notice that Alchremie is a bit cautious, worries about a lot of things and likes to be ready for everything. Episode ideas: Now a lot of the series would be about the team saving Miitopia, but some episodes would be mainly about character growth and stuff like that. Some episode ideas I have: Lilligant the Shy Flower: After a battle with a strong demon, who made Lilligant worried about everything, it wouldn't wear off even in the safe spot, following a montage of the team trying to return her to normal like Mallow cooking her some magic food, Purp, Icecreamsandwich and Rocky pulling a prank on Olimar to cheer her up, Gideon telling a joke to cheer her up, or Steve just downright slapping her and many others, they figured that nothing could work until when the same demon invaded the inn and almost destroyed her team, Lilligant pushed herself and unleashed a hurricane blowing the demon away. Chaotic Tea Time: In the foreground we can see Lilligant and Tsareena having a tea party and chatting, while in the background Gideon and Golurk try to kill a fiend with all sorts of shenanigans, and the episode keeps switching from foreground to background and it ends with Golurk unleashing a powerful laser boosted with some energy cells Gideon has which ended up leveling half the forest.

2024.05.16 20:39 Consistent_Put_465 Spicy husky - getting a new groomer?
I have a 13 yr.o plush husky. I acquired her from a less than ideal situation 6 years ago.
I deal with all the regular upkeep, ear cleaning and nail clipping, clipping the paw pads out every 2 weeks, sanitary trims, and we usually focus 1/2 hr every day on one side and do the other the next day. She’s not the unkempt dog you get twice a year for a full groom expecting a miracle, but as her prior owner shaved her, the situation isn’t ideal either.
I take her in twice a year during blow out season as the prior shaving makes the compaction under her guard hairs absolutely awful and I can’t get it out properly. I’ve tried several rakes and blades. And I just do not do a proper job and I’m scared of bacterial infections or hot spots if I can’t get to it properly.
Here’s the low down.
She’s horrific to groom. Absolutely more so than the breed standard.
She doesn’t bite, but the donkey kicking, pulling, growling and bluffing is very intense and she takes a very very long time to groom. I tip 40-50% of pre tax cost to anyone who takes her on because I know first hand how awful it is. I’m candid about this. Sometimes she adores her groomer and is great that day and the entire bath and blow out is 40 minutes. Other times she’s been there for three hours and they call me to collect and couldn’t finish the job because of her attitude. She is so-so behaved with me when I groom her.
But how do I approach a new groomer honestly about this and hopefully not get turned down.
How would you like a client to describe the situation and what would you want to hear to likely entice you to take on the dog? I get it’s at their discretion, I’m not blaming them by any means. I just don’t want to terrify them or lie, waste time and resources and crap on their schedule for the day and then never get a proper groom.
Or should I sincerely just ask a groomer to show me how to deal with compaction from the shaving and hope I can deal with this at home for now on? Do groomers enjoy showing clients how to deal with it?
Thanks

2024.05.16 15:50 Anglicanpolitics123 Old Testament social principles relevant for our time(Part 2). Interconnectedness, Intersectionality and social justice.
This is part 2 of a series that I have done on the relevance that Old Testament social principles have to our times. In the first part I looked at the OT's critique of lesser of two evils politics. In this one I will be looking at the Old Testament understanding of the relationship between social justice and intersectionality. Intersectionality was a term popularised in the late 80s and 90s by scholar and activist Kimberlee Crenshaw. In her analysis she says the following:
- "One of the very few Black women's studies books is entitled All the Women Are White; All the Blacks Are Men, But Some of Us are Brave. I have chosen this title as a point of departure in my efforts to develop a Black feminist criticism because it sets forth a problematic consequence of the tendency to treat race and gender as mutually exclusive categories of experience and analysis...this tendency is perpetuated by a single-axis framework that is dominant in antidiscrimination law and that is also reflected in feminist theory and antiracist politics.I will center Black women.... in order to contrast the multidimensionality of Black women's experience with the single-axis analysis that distorts these experiences"(Demarginalising the intersections of race and sex, pg 139)
- "I observed the dynamics of structured intersectionality during a brief field study of battered women's shelters located in minority communities in Los Angeles. In most cases the physical assault that leads women to these shelters is merely the most immediate manifestation of the subordination they experience. Many women who seek protection are unemployed or underemployed and a good number of them are poor. Shelters serving these women cannot afford to address only the violence inflicted by the batterer; they must also confront the other multilayered and routinised forms of domination that often converge in these women's lives"(Mapping the Margins: Intersectionality, Identity Politics and Violence against Women of Color)
With this assumptions, definitions and terms used above I will look at how the Old Testament looks at social justice through an interconnected and intersectional lense in key moments in the text.
1)The justice precepts of the OT: - "Thus says the Lord: Act with justice and righteous, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor anyone who has been robbed. And do no wrong or violence to the alien, the orphan and the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place"(Jeremiah 22:3)
- "The princes of Israel in you everyone according to his power, have been bent on shedding blood. Father and mother are treated with contempt in you; the alien residing within you suffers extortion; they orphan and widow are wronged in you. You have despised my holy things, and profaned my sabbaths. In you are those who slander to shed blood, those in you who eat upon the mountains, who commit lewdness in your midst. In you they uncover their father's nakedness; in you they violate women in their periods."(Ezekiel 22:6-10)
2)David and the Prophet Nathan: - "And the Lord sent Nathan to David. He came to him and said to him 'There were two men in a certain city, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had very many flocks and herds; but the poor man had nothing but one little ewe lamb, which he had bought. He brought it up, and it grew up with him and with his children; it used to eat of is meagre fare, and drink from his cup, and lie in his bosom, and it was like a daughter to him. Now there came a traveller to the rich man, and he was loath to take one of his own flock or herd to prepare for the wayfarer who had come to him, but he took the poor man's lamb, and prepared that for the guest who had come to him'. Then David's anger was greatly kindled against the man. He said to Nathan, 'As the Lord lives, the man who has done this deserved to die;"(2 Samuel 12:1-5)
- "Nathan said to David 'You are the man! Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: I anointed you king over Israel, and I rescued you from the hand of Saul; I gave you your master's house, and your master's wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have added as much more. Why have you despised the world of the Lord, to do what is evil in his sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites"(2 Samuel 12:7-9)
3)The Levite and the Concubine: - "In those days when there was no king in Israel, a certain Levite residing in the remote parts of the hill country of Ephraim, took to himself a concubine from Bethlehem in Judah. But his concubine became angry with him and she went away from him to her father's house at Bethlehem in Judah and was there for some four months. Then her husband set out after her to speak tenderly to her and bring her back. He had with him his servant and a couple of donkeys. When he reached her father's house the girl's father saw him and came with joy to meet him"(Judges 19:1-3)
- "When they were near Jebus, the day was far spent and the servant said to his master(the Levite) 'Come now, let us turn aside to this city of the Jebusites, and spend the night in it'. But his master said to him, 'We will not turn aside into a city of foreigners, who do not belong to the people of Israel; but we will continue on to Gibeah'. Then he said to his servant 'Come let us try to reach one of these places, and spend the night at Gibeah or at Ramah'. So they passed by and went on their way; and the sun went down on them near Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin. They turned aside there, to go in ans spend the night at Gibeah. He went in and sat down in the open square of the city, but no one took them in to spend the night. Then at evening there was an old man coming from his work in the field. The man was from the hill country of Ephraim and he was residing in Gibeah...The old man said 'Peace be to you. I will care for your wants; only do not spend the night in the square'. So he brought him into his house and fed the donkeys; they washed their feet and ate and drank"(Judges 19:11-16/20-21)
- "While they were enjoying themselves the men of the city, a depraved lot, surrounded the house and started pounding on the door. They said to the old man, the master of the house 'Bring out the man who came into your house so that we may have intercourse with him'. And the man, the master of the house, went out to them and said to them 'No, my brothers, do not act so wickedly. Since this man is my guest, do not do this vile thing. Here are my virgin daughter and his concubine; let me bring them out now. Ravish them and do whatever you want to them; but against this man do not do such a vile thing'. But the men would not listen to him. So the man seized his concubine, and put her out to them. They wantonly raped her, and abused her all through the night until morning. And as the dawn began to break, they let her go"(Judges 19:22-25)
When we take these stories we see and intersectional analysis at play. In the Parable of the Prophet Nathan we see the thing of hospitality interacting with class. In the story of the concubine we see the theme of hospitality interact with gender and sexual violence. The Levite and the concubine are shown hospitality in the house of the father in law and the old man. But hostility is shown by the people of Gibeah to outsider. Here, we see xenophobic violence display itself through sexual violence. But then it gets worst of course. Because both the old man and the Levite are willing to sacrifice the concubine and the virgin daughter. The feminist theologian Phyllis Trible in her book "Texts of Terror" states that the house demonstrates the "gendered" limits of hospitality. When it is male figure, hospitality has to be protected at all cost. When it comes to the the women characters, they are more than willing to sacrifice that hospitality. To push them to the margins, symbolised by the outside of the house. And so we see in the concubine what Kimberly Crenshaw spoke of in her work at battered shelters. Structured intersectionality. A woman subject to the multidimensional forces of patriarchal norms, xenophobic hostility, and sexual violence. The story of the concubine parallels the multidimensional story of migrant and refugee women in our world today who face the multiple forces of xenophobic hostility, oppressive cultural norms, and sexual violence as well.
It's the same thing in Nathan's parable at a different angle. If we see the see the gendered limits of hospitality in the Concubine episode, we see it's class limits in this parable. The rich man is willing to show hospitality to a wayfarer. And he does it at the expense of the man who is poor. His hospitality is built on economic exploitation. Now the twist is that Nathan is telling this Parable both as an irony and to expose King David's hypocrisy. Because David did an injustice to Uriah the Hittite. He had him murdered to take his wife. And Uriah because he is a "Hittite" is a stranger, a foreigner. Murder is the most inhospitable act you can do to a stranger. Nathan breaks us out of a single axis analysis of things by making the point that the same norms that allow a rich man to exploit the poor are the same ones that allow a King to murder an outsider to take his wife. Xenophobic violence and class oppression are intertwined. Which is why in the precepts of the Prophets care for the poor and the widows and orphans is coupled with care for the alien and stranger. And it is couple in the rhetoric of Jeremiah to not shed innocent blood. The structures built on violence are the same ones that marginalise the poor and target the orphan and the outsider. Many of the people who are poor under these structures are also widows and aliens as well. And as the Prophet Ezekiel points out, which ties back to the story of the concubine, the same people with power that shed innocent blood and oppress and extort the poor are also the ones who normalise and perpetuate a culture of sexual violence. These are definitely relevant for our times because the Old Testament's ethical framework breaks us out of a single axis view of social justice to view things in a multidimensional perspective. We have to look at the lives of migrants and refugees from a multidimensional perspective. We have to look at the experiences of black and indigenous communities from a multidimensional perspective when in these communities women have to endure the multiple burdens of racial violence coupled with patriarchal and sexual violence. We cannot speak of an identity politic that does not look at class oppression and violence. All of these intersect. All of these are multidimensional. And in that multidimensional reality Jeremiah's voice rings as true back then as today. Stand up for the poor, the orphan, the widow and the oppressed who has been robbed. And shed no innocent blood in this place.

2024.05.16 03:21 Clever_Unused_Name Youtube creators - LISTEN UP!
Please just stop with the ridiculous "reaction face" thumbnails. Every time I see your exaggerated expressions of shock, awe, or fake disgust a part of soul dies and I just don’t want to watch your content.
Let’s talk about just how fucking stupid this is. First off, the faces. No human being reacts to anything in such a ridiculously exaggerated manner unless they’re trying to win an Oscar for "Most Over-the-Top Performance in a Thumbnail." Are we really supposed to believe that every piece of mundane content on YouTube is so shocking or mind-blowing that it elicits such a response? I’d love to see these creators react to actual life events. "Oh my god, cereal for breakfast?! 😱"
Then there’s the sheer dishonesty of it. These thumbnails are nothing but clickbait, designed to lure you in, only to deliver some mediocre boring-ass content. It’s the digital equivalent of a carnival barker hyping up a show that turns out to be a sad, broken-down donkey in a tutu. But unlike the carnival, where you learn your lesson and move on, YouTube’s algorithm keeps shoving more of this shit in your face like an overzealous waiter pushing “today’s special" that you didn’t ask for and don’t want.
And let's not forget the utter lack of originality. You scroll through your feed and it’s a parade of the same gaping mouths and wide eyes. It’s as if all these creators went to the same School of Overdone Thumbnails where they majored in "Looking Like You Just Saw a Ghost While Stepping on a Lego." It’s formulaic, lazy, and frankly, insulting to anyone seeking genuine content. Just because Mr. Beast or some other creator did it, doesn’t mean that it’s the secret shortcut to being a YT billionaire – BE ORIGINAL with your content! To YouTube creators who resort to this cheap bullshit, I say this: have some respect for your audience. Create content that stands on its own merit, that draws viewers in with quality and substance, not with the promise of an over-the-top reaction that you never intended to deliver. Your otherwise interesting content can be easily ruined by your silly-ass reaction face in a thumbnail.
While I’m on a tirade – stop fucking asking me to “like and subscribe” within the first few seconds of your videos! Seriously? I haven't even had the chance to decide if your content is worth my time, let alone my endorsement. It's like walking into a restaurant, sitting down, and before you’ve even glanced at the menu, the waiter is demanding you leave a five-star review. Fucking quit it!
It’s not just presumptuous—it's obnoxious. It reeks of desperation and a lack of confidence in the content. If what you’re presenting is truly valuable, engaging, or entertaining, viewers will naturally want to support you. You shouldn’t have to pander to them before they’ve even seen what you have to offer. It's like proposing marriage on the first date. Slow down, buddy. Let’s see if we even like each other first.
And let’s talk about the irritation factor. You click on a video hoping for a solution, some entertainment, or maybe to learn something new, and what’s the first thing you hear? "Hey guys, make sure to smash that like button and subscribe to my channel!" It’s like an unwelcome pop-up ad that you can't skip. It's an instant turn-off, a red flag that screams, "I care more about metrics than about providing value." What’s worse it reduces the act of liking or subscribing to a mindless, mechanical action, rather than a genuine show of appreciation. It undermines the whole purpose of these metrics, which is to signify that viewers found the content worthy and want more of it. But no, we’re trapped in this vicious cycle where creators, driven by algorithms and analytics, prioritize these metrics over the quality of their work.
Trust your content. Focus on making it good enough that viewers will want to stick around until the end, and then feel compelled to like and subscribe of their own volition. Asking for likes and subscriptions should be an afterthought at the end of your content – hell, even the middle if they’ve watched that far. Respect your audience’s time and intelligence. Earn their support with merit, not with your pathetic begging.
That is all.

2024.05.15 14:59 _Normalize_ The creators of the Fallout show on Prime are Belinkers. I think.
- Sex scenes that are super Belinda-ish
“You can make my cock explode?”
“Should we get to the head?” “The head can wait” (a lesson spooner and Belinda could’ve learned in the wicked ish Bisch)
Not to mention the physicality of the sex scenes.
- Professor Slinz taking the cyanide pill (Dr. wilzig)
- Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass in ep 5
- Corporate espionage in the vaults, and truly some spy stuff
Many other examples I’ve noticed and I haven’t even finished the show!

2024.05.15 05:30 delibirdguy Top 500 Songs Ever (Subjective)
Over the course of the past few months I have been working on compiling a list of my 500 favorite songs. It was sort of challenge that I gave myself and I'm super pumped with how it turned out. There were a few rules (only 5 songs per artist being the big rule, among a few others), and here's the list I came up with. Thought it was fun, so wanted to share here and see if it might spark any discussion about song placement, lack of songs/artists, or see if anyone had any similar lists. All thoughts are welcome! 2024.05.15 02:30 graywolt Total Flipped World Tour - Niagara Brawls
https://preview.redd.it/4xrzwkgrih0d1.png?width=1292&format=png&auto=webp&s=27e7572a064e0ac1bde57fd9425d373cd0f4ec32 Cameron is back in the game in a 6-1-1 vote, and Scott and Anne Maria have gained immunity in a 7-5-2-1-1 vote.
Blaineley announces that Cameron has won the second chance challenge and is now back in the game. Cameron is incredulous, and Beardo, Ella, & Harold cheer for him, and Blaineley asks if she will get her money. Geoff laughs & says that they just barely went over time, which very much pisses off Blaineley, causing her to charge at Geoff. Security comes & captures her, and Geoff says that the next Aftermath will be at the secret finale location. As Blaineley is getting dragged away by security, Geoff signs off the episode, saying that he’ll see everyone next time.
Niagara Brawls
The episode opens with the Max clone scurrying around, playing with a sharp rock, and subsequently hiding when he sees the interns dragging the contestants to the cargo hold. The scene then cuts to a sleeping Max, who is having a dream about inventing things with Owen & Izzy. Scott, Sugar, & Topher then show up on hoverboards, destroying their work with lightning bolts. Max is thrown in the air, subsequently waking up & realizing that he and the other contestants have been thrown out of the plane.
Max promptly screams, waking everyone else up. While falling, two swan pedal boats are also falling with them. The contestants cling onto the boats as they fall and land in the water, making Anne Maria yell at Chris, as Staci shouts “Water!” This annoys Scott, but he & everyone else then see that they’re all heading toward a massive waterfall. Sugar laments about how she can’t win any more pageants when she dies, Dawn wishes her families good will, & Topher says that he fully doesn’t like Chris now. With Zoey though, she has turned into Commando Zoey, and uses her strength to throw Sugar into the other boat as an anchor, before furiously paddling both boats to safety. On the shore, Anne Maria compliments Zoey’s quick thinking & skills, and Scott is thinking. In the confessional, Scott says that Zoey must go ASAP, as she seems to be a big physical threat.
On shore, Chris reveals their location by telling the contestants that Niagara Falls is awesome, explaining that it is the jewel in Canada's crown and one of the top ten natural wonders in the world, also known for its fabulous casino, the place where they will head for the next part of the challenge, only to find themselves in the concert theater because all of them are underage. Topher asks if anyone will perform here, and Chris says that it’ll happen, as the last Aftermath episode has returned a contestant back to the game. Scott & Sugar are praying that it’s Sierra who returns, Max & Staci want Owen & Sadie respectively, and Chris then announces that it’s in fact Cameron who’s back in the game. Dawn is belated about this, and Cameron sings a song about Dawn & his friends, which is positively met.
Cameron asks Chris which team he’s on, and that he hopes it to be Team Amazon. Chris says that as of now it’s every man, woman, & Cameron for themselves, due to the teams being disbanded. Besides Scott, Sugar, & Topher, everyone is happy about this and is leering angrily at the villains. In the confessional, Sugar asks why everyone else is acting like they’re all friends, as this is Total Drama, not Total Friendship. With Zoey, she’s saying that she is excited at the chance of eliminating Scott or Sugar
Chris then announces that, since they are in the honeymoon capital of the world, they will be in pairs for "arranged marriages." The boys are placed in a giant casino machine, while the girls will pull the lever to see who their husband will be to team up for today's challenge and for Chris' own amusement, adding Bacon the bear in the slot machine, too.
Dawn pulls first, getting Scott, to which she slams the door on, crushing Scott’s arm. Dawn says that she’d prefer Bacon to Scott, making Chris give Bacon to Dawn. Sugar pulls next, getting Topher. Topher looks mostly indifferent to this, and Sugar suggests sabotaging everyone to gain victory, which Topher agrees with. Topher then asks what they should do with Scott, and Sugar says to treat him just like the others, as Sugar is in grave danger of being kicked if she loses.
Zoey pulls, hoping it’s not Scott, and gets Cameron. When Cameron sees this, he says that while he would rather have Dawn, Zoey is cool. Staci gets Max and they fist-bump, and this leaves Anne Maria with Scott, much to their dismay.
In part one of the challenge, the grooms must guide their blindfolded brides to a wedding dress while avoiding several obstacles in the first part of the competition, and if they don't get a dress, they can't move on to the next challenge. Topher tells Sugar not to worry about this, as he is amazing at this. Scott initially messes with Anne Maria, sending her into a pool of pudding, and Anne Maria says that he better stop it, unless he wants to be eliminated.
With Sugar & Topher, Sugar has found the first dress. Sugar suggests sabotaging the other teams, so they can automatically get immunity, which Topher agrees with. Staci & Max are trying to get to a dress, and Max is constantly changing his instructions, as Topher ais moving stuff around to confuse them. Cameron is guiding Zoey when Sugar steals his glasses, which causes him to accidentally send Zoey into a giant cake. Zoey groans at this and asks Cameron what happened. Cameron apologizes and says that it happened because Sugar stole his glasses, which Zoey forcibly takes back.
With Dawn & Bacon, the bear has successfully taken Dawn to the wedding dresses, clinching Dawn’s spot in the next challenge. Scott gets Anne Maria to the wedding dresses successfully, and so does Cameron with Zoey. As Chris says that the first challenge is over, Staci is able to get her wedding dress, annoying Topher & Sugar.
For the second part of the challenge, Chris explains that the grooms must hold their brides on a tightrope as they walk through Niagara Falls — which is packed with hungry sharks below because Chris thought they weren't quite unpleasant enough — and then they must successfully clear customs, saying that the first pair to do so wins invincibility. The mere idea of sharks is making Scott quiver, along with Max & Topher as well. As Sugar & Topher got to the dresses first, they get a head start. As they go by, Sugar trips Zoey for no apparent reason. Topher asks why, and Sugar says that she’s simply trying to get a rise out of Zoey.
Up next is Staci & Max, and the latter is staring at the falls below. Staci asks if he’s alright, and Max says that he feels psyched out by the challenge, as it seems really easy to fall to your death with one misstep. He then regains his breath and Staci starts to carry him on the rope.
Back with Topher & Sugar, Sugar tells Topher to hold on tight. Topher asks what this means, and Sugar slightly shakes the rope from side-to-side, making Staci & Max fall off. Cameron is bewildered by this, as they were just walking fine before. Zoey & Cameron get onto the tightrope next, speeding after the villains while being very wary of the looming threat of the falls.
Dawn & Bacon are next, with the Bear upright, carrying Dawn in her arms. Chris is surprised that anyone could actually find a grizzly bear that would be a good teammate. Bacon walks onto the tightrope, which causes a significant dip that nearly knocks off Scott, Sugar, Cameron, and Dawn. Zoey angrily asks who did this, and Cameron tells her to calm down, as it was just Dawn & the bear, which makes Zoey feel sheepish.
At the front, Sugar & Topher are discussing how they should sabotage everybody else once again when they reach customs. Chef starts to ask the duo some questions, and they are turned back when Chef asks them in which state is it illegal to have a donkey sleep in your bathtub after 7 P.M. Sugar said Texas, but the answer was Oklahoma.
Zoey & Cameron run into Sugar & Topher, and neither side is willing to move. In a bout of anger, Zoey violently shakes the rope, sending Dawn, the bear, Cameron, Topher, & Sugar into the falls. Zoey is mortified at what she has done, and dives in as well, looking for Cameron & Dawn. Scott & Anne Maria are the last ones standing, and carefully cross the rope to customs, where they answer all the questions correctly. Chef asks if they have anything else to say, and Anne Maria says that she’s just glad to be done with the challenge. The contestants in the water are now thankfully in a motorboat that is being driven by the interns, as Chris begrudgingly realizes that the contestants can't die.
Vote anyone sans Scott or Anne Maria, vote somebody for immunity, and feel free to come up with any plot points!

2024.05.15 01:27 BuyWonderful Does anyone else remember a childhood game called 'Murder in the dark'?
I think it was Jack's idea. Or maybe it was Mindy who came up with it. You know, if I do try and really think about it .. well, maybe it could've actually even been me who decided we play it. I've spent hours trying to pierce my memory back together, more to pass the time and distract myself.. But it's all irrelevant, It doesn't matter now. Maybe it never did.
Mabel was turning 30 and it was up to us to plan the party. We were all nostalgic about childhood memories so we decided to go all out - Frogs in the pond (jelly cups with Freddo frogs), hot dogs and fairy bread, and we wrapped up prizes in newspaper for pass the parcel. Pin the tail on the donkey and Twister were set up ready to play, the spice girls were blaring on Spotify.
Mabel's eyes lit up when she walked into the room and her smile was worth all the effort we put in. We danced and played games, and as the sun started to set and it grew darker outside, someone suggested turning off the lights snd playing murder in the dark.
There were ohh's and ahh's, laughter as people remembered a game they most likely hadn't played since primary school. A collective chatter amongst us in agreeance to playing Someone handed out cards, while were told the rules of the game. And then the lights were tuned out.
For those of you who don't recall, these are the basic premise of the games rules -
You'll need - Pack of cards
Instructions - Sort through a deck of cards and find the following - an Ace, a Jack, a King, a Queen, and number cards for the amount of remaining people. (i.e.-if six people were playing, you would need two number cards.)
Each card means something - the Ace is the murderer, the Jack is the detective, the King is the detective if the Jack dies, and the Queen is the detective if the Jack and the King both die. The number cards just walk around for the beginning of the game.
Tell the players that all they need to worry about for the time being is if they get the Ace. Give a card to everyone. Nobody looks at each other's cards. Once they have their cards and have seen them, put them down somewhere out of the way for the next round.
Turn off all the lights so that it's completely dark. Everyone begins to spread out and walk about slowly, and try not to laugh or talk. Players aren't allowed to stick together in this game. During this time, the murderer is seeking 'victims'. When she/he finds someone alone, they quietly brush their shoulder and whisper, "You're dead." As an alternative, the murderer could clamp their hand over the persons mouth to avoid the person screaming, and then whisper "You're Dead".
The dead player drops to the ground, dead, and can not speak or move. The murderer may or may not hide the person they just killed in a hiding place. It is not advisable, however, due to the risk involved in getting caught. When a player sees a person lying down, they ask, "Are you dead?" The person simply nods 'yes' or shakes their head 'no', but they must tell the truth. If they nod, the person who found them shouts "Murder in the Dark!" and the lights are put on.
The murderer may not murder victims any longer and all the alive players assemble where the dead person was found. The players who are not present are noted as dead. The detective sits in a chair in front of all the others who are on the floor. He/she asks questions to each person. (i.e. where were you when someone yelled Murder in the Dark? Who do you think is the murderer and why? etc.)
When the detective has enough information and think they are ready, they say "Final Accusation" and ask one person-"Are you the murderer?" It is very important that the person answers TRUTHFULLY at the final accusation. If they are the murderer, then they must say yes. If correct players pick new cards and the game starts again. If wrong then turn out the lights and carry on.
Our rules were a bit different though. It was added in that it would be a last man standing game instead. We wouldn't have a detective - we would have a murderer, murderees and possibly one lone survivor. If someone did survive -Whoever who was still alive when the egg timer went off in 60 minutes - would be the winner. If the murderer had successfully killed everyone and there were no 'survivors' - than they had won the game.
I'll admit, it was spooky. There's just something unnerving about being in a room full of people that you cannot see but you can feel their body heat or hear them breathing. I began to walk around softly, careful to make as less noise as possible. As I wasn't the killer - I had no 'good card' I was just a waiting victim, so I wanted to hide and try and bide my time staying alive as long as possible. It didn't take long to find the first 'body'. I could tell it was Mabel from the way the long blonde hair trailed along the carpet. I whispered "Are you dead?" And I guess she mustn't have heard me because I didn't see her nod.
I moved on quickly, going into the spare bedroom. I didn't risk shutting the door behind me, I just went to hide under the bed. There was a body already under there though, I felt the warmness of human skin as I clambered under the mattress, my hand recoiling in shock as I brushed up against someone's leg. I didn't bother to ask whether they were dead, I mean I guess it was cheating a bit, but we were alone, and they were certainly doing a good enough job of playing dead it seemed just silly to ask.
I heard the muffled scream down towards the other end of the house, - the first 'victim' I'd heard to make any noise - and knew it was safe to make my move out of the bedroom to a better spot.
I nearly tripped on the bodies that were splayed out on the floor, in the hallway and the kitchen. Whoever had the murderer card was certainly taking the game seriously and playing to the best of their ability. I had yet to come across anyone else walking around and was starting to think I might actually have a chance of winning, depending on how much longer was on the egg timer, of course.
I made a beeline to the kitchen to check how much time we had, it honestly felt like the game had gone on forever - and I was shocked to feel the broken pieces of the egg timer on the kitchen bench. I looked at the clock on the microwave - the green numbers burning into my eyes. We had been playing for over three hours.
Something didn't feel quite right.
I tiptoed back into the hall to Mabel, leaning down to whisper to her that we'd been playing way too long - but then I felt something wet and slippery on my hands when I knelt down next to her. It was blood. I stifled a scream as my hands roamed and I realised the birthday girl had had her head caved in.
I backed away slowly, tears streaming down my face as I quietly made my way to the front door. I let myself out and ran across the road, banging on the neighbours door while constantly glancing behind me to see if I was being chased.
The neighbours nearly fainted when they saw me covered in blood and screaming, but they calmed me down by showing me they had double locked their door and called the police.
They don't know who killed all my friends. Everyone who was meant to be at the party was still in the house - slaughtered.
It's taken so much therapy and I'm still not sleeping at night. I wish I could go back and help my friends. I didn't know, but the blame remains.
I got a letter in the mail today though. It was a congratulations card, and written inside said 'last one standing - winner winner - care to rematch, Afterall the last game was so fun! I'll see you soon, when darkness comes.'
So my advice, don't play childhood games. They could have dire consequences.

2024.05.14 21:06 Is-Mauii It’s time for a Kong-Quest!
For years now, I found myself fascinated with Donkey Kong TV show, and all the character models that they had. For both the original show and the updated models, it’s been very difficult to find models of DK, Diddy, Bluster, and the rest of the cast. Nowhere online have I ever seen someone re-create the original models from the show, so I’m going to ask if anyone might know where to begin searching for anything regarding these designs and assets.
I am aware that they are probably hidden in adult somewhere, I would like to do my best to search for a way to dig them up, and hopefully bring them back into the mainstream.
So please, if anyone can find information on the residents of Congo Bongo’s models, please let me know!

2024.05.14 10:58 GreatRknin Linji Can Play (Tactical Breakdown)
My favourite Zen saga is the enlightenment of Linji, a fool finally learns what it means to put your body on the line.
Note: I’m aware someone might have made these points previously. In the original record, immediately after Linji was enlightened, he said, “Basically, there’s nothing much to Buddha’s teaching.”
Out of context, this seems like foolish braggadocio, like, come on, you barely got enlightened; why you acting brand new all of a sudden? The ensuing events show this was both a skilful reversal and a declaration of war.
Linji knocked Dayu three times in the side with his fist. Dayu let him go and said, ‘Your teacher is Huangbo—it has nothing to do with me.’
Dayu already knew who he was gunning for. He wisely sidestepped, and, lol, it had a lot to do with him.
Huangbo said, ‘That old fellow Dayu is too talkative—wait till I see him; I’ll give him a beating!’ Linji said, ‘Why talk about waiting to see him? Hit right now!’ Then he gave Huangbo a slap.
Huangbo definitely didn’t see that coming.
“They gave muhh precious treasury to a loose cannon.” I imagine it caused a bit of an uproar in those days. Dayu cured Linji’s masochism with kindness, then Linji paid Huangbo back in kind. Check up, no issues here.
Everybody can go correctly, how many can come correctly? Linji came correct, reckless but correct.
Eulogy of Linji:
“The treasury of the eye of true teaching perished in the blind donkey; Huangbo was too kind, Dayu was too talkative.”
lol wtf type of eulogy is that? He had some haters didn't he?
He was noticeably different from his predecessors, shades of a cybernetic-proofed style. Even now there's a proclivity to cleave to Huangbo rather than the guy that bested him. This might need some verification, but I think Linji started a new wave. What do you think?
luv 44.

You can find the full first episode for free on the Daily Wire site, so if you want to watch it over there and then discuss it here then feel free. Below are spoilers for it though. The series starts with Birchum and his childhood best friend Gage placing bets on the first student to insult either of them on their first day back to school as teachers, only for Birchum to immediately get insulted. Gage points out how crazy it is that kids hate Birchum so much that they can’t even make it out of the parking lot without getting insulted, which I found funny because it almost serves as meta commentary for the initial reaction to the show when it was announced. Birchum and Gage meet Mr. Karponzi, a JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) officer and they all take an immediate disliking towards each other because Birchum and Gage have traditionally masculine teaching methods as shop teachers. Birchum’s teaching philosophy is that wood doesn’t care about your feelings. If you hurt wood, wood will hurt you back. Wood doesn’t discriminate. Its only true enemy is the donkey system, where he acts out donkey demerit points to students if they act stupid, abuse the tools, or just simply doesn’t like the students. Every time they get a donkey point, it moves them across the board, and if they get to the end then they have to sit down at the makeshift corral. When teaching remedial woodshop, Birchum has a student aid named Brad (who is voiced by the same VA as Johnny Test I think) and he is able to forge Birchum’s signatures and change any of the students grades at will. He says this in front of the class, which makes you question why considering the students can probably use this information against him. Principal Bortles (voiced by Roseanne Barr) comes into the class to inform Birchum that Karponzi has banned his safety film for being problematic because it shows blood. He shows it anyways though once they leave. Back at his house, he gets into an argument with his wife Wendi (voice by Megyn Kelly) for feeding their dog vegan food. Then he gives advice to his tomboy daughter Jeanie (voiced by Brett Cooper) to just set the microwave to 33 seconds instead of 30 seconds because it wastes time. His twenty-year old son Eddie that plays professional e-sports comes in and tells him that he can just push the 30 second button, but Birchum just calls him lazy. Birchum gets frustrated that Eddie isn’t sitting down with the rest of the family to eat and is instead just gaming in the basement. Birchum gets annoyed at Eddie for not having a girlfriend, sitting in a vibrating chair, and drinking energy drinks made in a lab in Wuhan. I don’t even really know what they’re trying to satirize with the energy drink. Back at the school, some parents are complaining about Birchum’s shop class video because it made someone’s kid ask them questions like what decapitate means and if they can go to trade school. Karponzi decides to add getting rid of Birchum to his to do list along with decolonizing the cafeteria menu and updating Tinder with protesting pics. Wendi and Jeanie meanwhile are trying to make houses on the market look presentable to help Wendi’s job as a realtor. Jeanie gets into a disagreement with Wendi over how everything is decorated, and ends up ruining the fireplace by scraping the white paint off of it. The b-plot ends with Jeanie handcuffing herself to the fireplace to not allow for anymore white paint to be put on it, which makes the buyers not want to buy the house, but Wendi says that she’s proud of because she stuck to her convictions. That takeaway was really weird to me. Jeanie not only vandalizes property that isn’t hers because she doesn’t like how it looks, but she also directly negatively impacts her mother’s livelihood by scaring off potential buyers. Why exactly does she deserve praise for acting like a selfish little shit? If these were leftist protesters blocking traffic or vandalizing other people’s property for their pet issues I have no doubt that any of the Daily Wire hosts would have any problem rightfully calling those people a bunch of losers, but the show just tells us that Jeanie did the right thing by acting in the exact same fashion. While doing laundry, Birchum asks why Eddie doesn’t like doing physical sports and he just flashbacks to playing little league as a kid and Birchum freaking out after he struck out. The main plot continues with everyone in Birchum’s class is at risk of failing, so he gives them all an opportunity to pass his class by showing up to his house to finish his deck. Karponzi records this and uses this as justification for a disciplinary tribunal, which is a sort of trial that determines if he should get fired or not. At the tribunal, Birchum defends himself by saying that he’s actually teaching kids how to apply the skills they learned in his class to actually build things and points out how teachers even asked him and his students to build things for them. Everyone in the crowd erupts in cheer after hearing Birchum’s speech and wave around American flags and play patriotic music. In the end Birchum only gets a three day suspension from work which he treats as a vacation. The C-plot (if you can even call it that) ends with Birchum meeting some attractive woman Eddie invited over who says that he is so cool and hot because he’s a great gamer, which changes Birchum’s opinion of him slightly. All and all it was exactly what I was expecting, a lazy Family Guy knockoff. I see a lot of people saying that’s an unfair criticism, but I didn’t even mention any of the unfunny cutaway gags throughout the summary. You have vegan wolves and bears going around complaining about not getting the right coffee and getting mauled to death as the punchline. They also have a lot of in your face political references that are just brought up randomly out of nowhere. In one scene Wendi says that a part of her job is to sell people dreams that have no basis in reality, and Jeanie responds by saying “oh so like the Green New Deal?” And there’s a forced moment of silence as if she just had a mic drop moment. It’s so lame. The main character is annoying and unfunny. There’s no cohesive plot as it feels like a series of unrelated sketches with some random b and c plots sprinkled in. Scenes seem to start and end at random, making you question what the point even was in having them. The humor consists entirely of ‘young people amirite’ and 'checkmate libtards' which are dated, as you can see every punchline coming a mile away. The voice acting is generally pretty poor, everyone apart from the main cast sounds like they recorded it on their phone while sitting on the toilet. Character designs also look ugly, with some characters having some weird anatomies to them. For years hosts at The Daily Wire complained about the ham-fisted content and ideological shallowness coming from Hollywood, but when they were given the opportunity to actually make something good they fall into the same trap. You are generally not going to make something good if your primary concern is pushing your ideology over making good entertainment first. Analyzing humour and parodying others requires some level empathy and the understanding of what drives the people being satirized to make it effective and not just propaganda, which the writers of this show lack. There’s nothing nuanced about the manbun Jedi guy which just relegates him to being a one-note joke. That's why every attempt to lambaste the left in animation just results in shows where the whole joke is just complaining about newgen trendy thing while assuming the viewer will clap because they agree with boomer takes. Yeah, I’m sure EVERY young conservative agrees with boomers on everything. This will likely be my only post on the show unless it does something really interesting, which I doubt. It prides itself on being so raunchy and offensive while being completely safe and inoffensive. Episodes of Family Guy are more offensive than this show, and that’s made by a bunch of liberals. submitted by Calm_Extreme1532 to MauLer [link] [comments] |
2024.05.13 17:50 JLDavenport Danmachi Hestia is a fantastic representation of her character. (Alt: It's fine to like Hades, I like Hades, but getting defensive about Danmachi is juvenile)
Do you like Hades? I like Hades. Supergiant always seems to make fantastic games and it was no exception. The gameplay was fun, the story was enjoyable, the characters were either good or great, and while it took some massive liberties with the Gods (Demeter has... ice powers???) it's a fun take on them, very enjoyable.
It seems that Hades 2 came out in Early Access recently- I know this because my Twitter timeline has been chock full of Hades fans absolutely seething about Danmachi, and especially about Hestia.
Crazy stuff, right? And yet somehow my whole feed is full of "She's just an Anime girl!" and "The Hades design fits the character better!"
I don't actually want to focus too much on Hades here, since I do like it, so let's just address that second one first and say that's ridiculous and it's an ignorant or hypocritical statement.
Why? Well, mostly because the Hades design centralises entirely around the idea of her as the Guardian of the Sacred Flame. And yup, that's important, that's right there in her name, but is that more important than the idea of her as the Oldest and the Youngest? The idea of her as a Vestal Virgin? All the stories tied up in her?
I'll keep this very brief. Hestia is the first of the Titan's children, and when they were all (except Zeus) eaten, she was the last to be thrown back up- and thus she's heralded as both the first and last child, the oldest and the youngest.
This, as well as her role as patron of the city states, is why all sacrifices first included a sacrifice to Hestia. Before you give to Zeus, first you give the Hestia. Before you give to Demeter, first you give to Hestia. etc.
Similarly, she's (by her own choice) a Vestal Virgin. Hestia isn't a particularly popular Goddess, not a lot of stories use her at all, but aside from story about her being the Oldest and Youngest, there's two big stories that exist in the public consciousness and both of them are about how people want to have sex with her.
She's a beautiful young woman, a very attractive Goddess, and she was pursued by both Apollo and Neptune for her hand in marriage. Instead, she rejected both of them and swore a great oath to Zeus that she would remain a virgin for all time instead. That's the first big story, the second one is about the time she went to a party and after going to sleep for the night Priapus tried to rape her, the baying of a Donkey awoke her, whereupon the other Gods all came to her defense and beat the shit out of him.
So, she's the Guardian of the Sacred Fire. She's a Vestal Virgin. She's the Oldest and the Youngest. She's a beautiful and attractive woman who readily rejects the advances of men... And how does Hades Hestia fit into those? Well it doesn't at all. She's just an old lady with a bowl of embers on her head. There's some nice design details and a few little niche references, but by and large we've got none of Hestia's myths covered except that she's associated with fire.
And meanwhile, Danmachi handles every one of those.
Hestia's design shows us the story of her as the Oldest and the Youngest, having a young looking body that's simultaneously completely mature.
Apollo tried to make advances on her back during their time in Heaven. And we've got oblique references to attempts at rape and assault throughout his story (albeit not directed at her). Her role as a Vestal Virgin is incredibly vital to the plot, both in why Freya doesn't attack her and how she counters Freya later. She's part of the "No Sex Club" with Artemis and Athena. Her role as the patron of the Home is why she's made fun of for being a NEET, and gets her in trouble when she first comes to the lower world.
Every part of Hestia's mythos is presented. It's an absolutely faithful and fantastic interpretation of Hestia.
And it makes me sad to see so many people making these ridiculous threads about "Look at these Danmachi designs, they're just normal characters! The Hades ones are way more Godly!" like... yeah? The characters in Danmachi don't have vines coming off them or wheat in their hair, the whole point of the setting is that they're living normal lives without their powers among mortals.
But the story is still incredibly faithful to the origins and stories of those Gods and Goddesses-
Zeus is a fickle and selfish God, the greatest of all whose Familia delved further than anyone else could, a great and kind man who can raise a child with love and care... and a selfish, greedy bastard who would abandon that child without much more than a thought.
Freya's story is all about her quest to find Odr, how she's loved and cherished but suffering along the way in her own private torment. The visuals about her crying in a field of flowers was practically the genesis of what's to be the entire upcoming anime Season.
Hephaestus is an incredible creator, but is only truly comfortable in her workshop and isn't great at dealing with people. The other Gods like her well enough but mock her because of her ugly scar, and she carries a deep bitterness because when Aphrodite cheated on her when they were married.
Cassandra has a curse (tied to Apollo) that means her prophesies are never believed. Similarly both Apollo's heroic and villainous nature are shown, especially with him being corrupted by life in the city.
Hell, who even knows anything at all about a God like Miach? Well Danmachi he was "hit over the head" with debt by Dian Celch (and his follower Airmid).
And, almost to a man, the Gods in Danmachi are shown with the kind of capricious, self-centered nature that's perfectly true to old myths. Their status as divinities means they have a morality that's very different to humans, and they have their own agenda that only mostly aligns with what the mortals may want, or want to do.
Hermes is one of Bell's most trusted allies and he's betrayed him about as often as he's helped him. Freya has helped Bell almost as much as Hestia, but she's also thrown him into almost certain death to try prove something to herself. Thanatos and Erebus both love humans, but they're perfectly happy to kill them by the score to prove their own point to themselves etc etc etc.
In short: Danmachi is a setting that takes enormous pains to present the Gods and Goddesses with a kind of faithfulness that should be celebrated, and it's a real shame to see people making these big lists that essentially amount to "Look, Dionysus in Hades has vines and wine all around him and in Danmachi he's just a God living in a city (with schemes and plans underpinning his festive nature)." They're absolutely missing the point.
And I'll say again, I'm not here saying Hades is bad, or that the people who like Hades are bad. If you like the Hades interpretations more, that's fine, more power to you.
But it's absolutely ridiculous to hold up Danmachi and proclaim it as just using the Gods as window dressing. And especially so when it's often-times far more faithful.

2024.05.13 17:24 taxi500 First time playing Casino Poker: $2/$5 Hand Opinions - Please
Background: Table is stable and seems tight-ish and I've been crushing them.. Go from $500 to 1k in all of 15-20 hands. Getting delt fire and the table has not seen me show something other than the nuts/premiums in the past 45-1hour. I decide to get a little loose with this image and go big pre with 56s (diamonds): EP raises to $15, MP Calls, I go to like $100, Btn Calls behind me and all others fold... Pot ~250 Flop: J75 all clubs. Action: Hero bets $40, V calls. Turn: Ac / Hero checks, V Checks behind. River: 7h - Hero goes donkey for $350, V tank calls with.... JhTc for the T high flush.... Ouch! My Thoughts: very surprised he called. I was repping a high flush, or a Full house. Villain was this old man with headphones on watching dirt bike races next to me. I found that to be a very loose call in my opinion but he also blocked a big part of what I'm repping which is JJ for the full house. But I also have KK QQ there with a club potentially. Idk. Lost all my profit here and back down to $500.
Last hand vs same villian: OK now i know this guy will call me loose. I have $400 in front of me. Hero PFR to $15 with AJs (Spades) on BTN, SB calls, BB calls. Flop: Q34 rainbow: Checks to hero, C-Bet for 1/3rd pot ($15) - SB Calls, BB folds. Turn: Ac - Checks to hero who bets $40, V raises to $115, Hero calls. River: Brick - SB Checks, I shove BTN for remaining $250 - V calls. SB flips over 25o for the straight. Ouch!! I got up and left the table, then left the casino. My Thoughts: What the fuck?!?! 25o there? I made one bluff vs him but I don't think I was seen as a complete jackass at the table. I could be wrong though. I thought my shove was fine - He was willing to call me light before so I figure a 2/3rd pot shove would get called by all his rag aces, Good queens, etc.
Anyway. Not my best showing ever. Lost $700 over the weekend with probably like 5-8 hours of play. The hands above are where I lost my whits and last $500 I was willing to play with.

2024.05.13 13:42 FatBoySenpai Just got finished with our 7 day trip to Ireland! My tips/tricks…
We just finished our first international trip to Ireland as a couple in our early 30’s.
LOVED IT! had an amazing time and so many things I wouldn’t change and so many things I would have done differently!
Our itinerary.
Day 1 Land in Dublin at 10AM Drive to Galway Stop at Clonmacnoise Night in Galway
Day 2 Aran Island Ferry Bike rental on Aran islands with a stop at cliffs after. Night in Galway
Day 3 Leave Galway Drive to Killarney Stoped at Dunguaire Castle (did not plan this) Stoped at Cork screw Hill (did not plan this) Arrived at Cliffs of MoheHiked entire route. Arrived in Killarney
Day 4 Rented a bike and did the boat tour from Ross castle Biked the Gap Night in Killarney
Day 5 Left Killarney Stopped at Muckross Abbey Stopped at Torc Waterfall Stopped at Lady’s View
This is where the trip got FUN!
Right outside of Sneem I had a Tractor in the opposite oncoming lane where I had to take a sharp turn around a cliff…got to far left and struck the bottom of the cliffs…tore the tire to shreds…pulled off to the side of the road and called AAA a man showed up in a van, took our tire and came back in 10 mins with a new one. Was back on the road within 1 1/2 hours…however the alignment was completely off…and the axel was probably bent…right tire would scrap wheel well and screech like hell…So our Ring of Kerry adventure was over and now we needed to get back and exchange the car at a nearest (enterprise rental) 1 1/2 hours away in Tralee…so we had to go back track 20 mins and go through single lane roads through the ring of Kerry NO TOURISTS should be on especially with a busted car not safe to drive…but it was our only option to exchange the car…it was an absolute adventure in itself and some of the views cutting through that ring were amazing…
Exchanged car in Tralee Drived to Dingle Night in Dingle at Dick Mack’s and the Fish Box for dinner.
Day 6 Drove Slea Head Drive (consolation prize to Ring of Kerry) Stopped at Fairy Fort/Petting zoo Stopped at Beehives Sropped at the Slea Head and saw where they filmed Star Wars Went back to Dingle for lunch and Ice cream Drove back to Dublin to return car
Day 7 Day in Dublin Little museum of Dublin tour Dublin castle tour Dark side of Dublin street tour
Day 8 Took a early morning walk to see Trinity College and Saint Patrick Cathedral Fly home
Did all this while eating amazing food and drinking plenty of Guinness nightly lol.
TAKEAWAYS:
- WE DID WAY TO MUCH! Haha we were operating on fumes half the time…partner is definitely sick with a cold and I easily had one the first half of the trip…
- Don’t be afraid to drive, GET THE FULL INSURANCE…I did and only had to pay an extra 250 Euro and the car was a complete walk away…car easily had 1-2k euro worth of damage done to the axel…250 plus insurance is a small price to pay vs the 1-2k I would have had to pay.
- Drive slow, I was going 10-20km/h under the speed limit the entire time especially on local roads.
- Wish I Skip Galway…I would have just went to Doolin…I live in the NYC area and honestly Galway felt very touristy to me…I’d rather had stayed in Doolin and done the Ferry there and stayed away from the city.
- Everyone takes card…we took out $500 in cash but honestly really didn’t use it. Taxi in Dublin did but that was it. Maybe take out $250? Or if you are sticking to a budget that would be a good option.
- Verizon Wireless worked perfectly pretty much the entire time…cost $10 a day with the oversea plan but worked great.
- There were so many times we wished we packed lunch and could just sit and eat on the cliffs or in the gap and relax. PACK LUNCH and just enjoy the view for 1/2 hour and relax. I wish we did that, we’d also would have saved some money on food.
- Wish we spent more time in Dingle and spent more time exploring Killarney National Park.
HIGHLIGHTS:
-The boat tour and biking through the gap was AMAZING and I highly recommend. The guide on the boat tour did an amazing job and was very informative.
-The Fairy Fort/Petting Zoo was a fun experience. I hate looking like a tourist. But considering we were there in spring and all the sheep just had lambs and I kept seeing adorable animals I couldnt touch, was annoying in the best way possible! Here I could pet and feed goats/sheep/donkeys/lambs and alpaca? lol. Highly recommend this experience.
-Muckross Abbey was beautiful and probably the coolest building we saw and it’s FREE!
-Aran Island bike rental and ride was dope…definitely felt kinda touristy though…just too many people honestly.
COSTS:
Total cost was about $2,800 per person with flights/food/cahotel/excursions. So 5.6k total? We definitely had a few 100 euro dinners…next trip we’ll definitely budget better but honestly we did A LOT…ate and drank pretty well.
FINAL THOUGHT:
Go slow…Drive Slow…don’t plan too much…Enjoy the trip.
