2024.05.16 08:47 EsuriitMonstrum Burrito Casserole a.k.a. Mexican Lasagne

I name-dropped a recipe I like in a meme subreddit completely unrelated to cooking, ended up sharing the recipe, and people seemed to really like it, so I thought I'd share in a cooking subreddit. I first saw a video on YouTube about it, but it was so long ago now. Spent a lot of time experimenting to refine it to suit myself.
I really like this recipe because it tastes good, it's fairly quick, plus it gives me time to prep and clean while it's still cooking. When I'm alone it lasts me 4-5 meals. Kids and teens will love it. They love burritos right? Even my elderly parents like it.
Burrito casserole (but my family calls it "Mexican Lasagne")
Prep + cooking time: 90 minutes (optional rest time an additional 120 minutes), since the cooking phase is a lot of waiting, I usually chop my next ingredients while the previous ones are cooking
Difficulty: Beginner-suitable (I am a beginner)
Essential equipment: Oven, deep stovetop pan, round casserole dish about the size of a tortilla wrap
Serves: 4-5 people
Ingredients:
Instructions:
  1. Dice three medium to large onions and caramelise in a deep pan with a splash of olive oil or other cooking oil. (Optional: once caramelised, remove from pan and put aside. This allows you to cook the meat in the next step fully without risk of burning the onions.)
  2. Cook 500g mince meat through fully, gradually breaking it up using your wooden spatula. Ensure all juices are evaporated. Re-add the caramelised onions if removed earlier.
  3. Add one chopped bell pepper, and add a large amount of chopped jalapenos (roughly 2/3 of the amount of onions), more is better than less.
  4. Once heated through, add mix of peas/chopped carrots/corns to the same volume as the jalapenos (frozen vegetable mix is convenient, but thaw by boiling or steaming first before adding).
  5. Add a drained can of four-bean mix (or other canned beans).
  6. Add approximately 6 tablespoons of taco spice mix (one part ground coriander, one part ground cumin, one part paprika, one part garlic powder, one part onion powder). Optional: add a tablespoon of mushroom or chicken bouillon. Stir through. The meat/vegetable mix (henceforth, the burrito mix) should thicken up with the addition of the spices. Add more spice to taste if needed.
  7. Ensure the spices don't stick to the bottom of the pan. If it does, add a few drops of hot water and scrape the bottom with your wooden spatula and it should come right off and mix with the rest of the burrito mix. Don't add too much water; burrito mix should be relatively dry, so if it ends up wet, continue heating and stirring until the burrito mix becomes quite dry again. Once mixed through and the taste is ideal, remove from heat source.
  8. In a round casserole dish, lay down a tortilla wrap. Use a knife to cut the tortilla so it fits the base of the dish perfectly. Spoon in a THIN layer of the burrito mix, then a layer of melting cheese. Lay the next tortilla wrap, pressing down on the previous layers to compress, to fit as much as possible in the dish. Repeat until dish is filled to the top. Top-most layer should be cheese, then the burrito mix under it. Do not put a tortilla on the top layer. (Optional: instead of using a tortilla wrap as the bottom-most layer, start with a thin layer of burrito mix, then tortilla, then burrito mix, then cheese.)
  9. Bake in an oven at 200 degrees Celsius, until cheese on top starts to brown (no more than 20 minutes), or to prevent the cheese from burning while ensuring the tortillas are cooked, bake for 10 minutes before adding top-most layer of cheese, adding the cheese layer and then baking another 10 minutes.
  10. Optional: Allow to cool for about two hours or more (like a pie) -- cutting and serving too quickly can cause the casserole to fall apart when served. If allowed to sit for a while, the 'lasagne' is more likely to keep its shape and look more presentable. (Casserole should still be warm after a couple hours.)
  11. Cut into large square slices like a lasagne. Eat with sour, unsweetened Greek yoghurt.

2024.05.16 07:44 loganowen770 Empowering Future Network Engineers: The Role of Packet Tracer in University Curriculums

As the digital world expands, the role of network engineers becomes increasingly critical. Universities are adapting their curriculums to ensure students are well-prepared to meet the demands of this evolving field. One tool that has become indispensable in the training of future network engineers is Cisco's Packet Tracer. This powerful simulation software allows students to design, configure, and troubleshoot networks, offering hands-on experience that is crucial for their professional development. As students navigate complex assignments, many often find themselves searching for help online, typing "write my Packet Tracer assignment" into their search engines, seeking expert assistance to master the intricacies of network simulations.
Packet Tracer serves as a virtual sandbox where students can build networks from scratch, experiment with different configurations, and observe the outcomes in a risk-free environment. This ability to practice and make mistakes without real-world consequences is invaluable. It bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills, ensuring that students can apply what they've learned in class to real-world scenarios.
Integrating Packet Tracer into university curriculums provides several benefits. Firstly, it enhances the learning experience by providing a dynamic, interactive platform for students to engage with. Traditional lectures and textbooks can only go so far in explaining how networks operate. Packet Tracer allows students to see the immediate effects of their actions, whether they are configuring a simple LAN or setting up more complex routing protocols.
Secondly, Packet Tracer supports a wide range of networking concepts and technologies, from basic IP addressing to advanced topics like OSPF and BGP. This versatility makes it a comprehensive tool that can be used throughout an entire degree program, growing with the student's knowledge and skills. As assignments grow more complex, students often seek out assignment help websites, ensuring they can keep up with the curriculum and fully grasp each concept.
Additionally, Packet Tracer promotes collaborative learning. Many university courses encourage group projects where students must work together to design and implement network solutions. This mirrors the collaborative nature of the IT industry, where teamwork and communication are essential. Packet Tracer's ability to simulate multi-user networks allows students to work on joint projects, even remotely, preparing them for the real-world dynamics of network engineering teams.
The accessibility of Packet Tracer is another significant advantage. Available for free to Cisco Networking Academy students, it ensures that financial barriers do not impede learning. This democratization of education means that all students, regardless of their economic background, can gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools. However, the complexity of some assignments might drive students to look for external assistance, prompting them to use services that specialize in Packet Tracer assignments to ensure they meet their academic goals.
Moreover, the use of Packet Tracer extends beyond the classroom. Many students continue to use it as a study aid, creating their own scenarios and simulations to prepare for certifications like the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). These certifications are highly regarded in the industry and can significantly enhance a graduate’s employability. The skills honed through extensive use of Packet Tracer thus translate directly into career readiness.
In conclusion, Packet Tracer is more than just a teaching tool; it's a comprehensive learning platform that equips future network engineers with the skills they need to succeed. Its integration into university curriculums enhances theoretical learning with practical experience, promotes collaboration, and ensures accessibility. As students navigate through challenging assignments, the availability of assignment help websites can provide the necessary support, making the journey to becoming a proficient network engineer more manageable and less daunting. The role of Packet Tracer in education cannot be overstated; it is truly empowering the next generation of network professionals.

2024.05.16 03:55 acutemisadventure Let's talk 2024 NFL & CFB bet strategies and hypothesis from what you learned from last year

I've been watching more nfl than cfb so I'll definitely be looking forward to hearing people's thoughts or expectations for the college world
  1. Actually have a strategy.
  2. No more 16+ leg parlays anymore...........unless if it's less than %10 of your roll' and even then I feel like they should be roundrobins
  3. I have this theory that incentives or game strategies can definitely correlate to play contracts in certain instances.
  4. Shedeur Sanders will crack 4k passing
  5. Last I ignored or chickened out on calling week one in the nfl. I made a video of it for the sub in last year so check it out. But here's how I think it'll go down. Mind this is what I think if 90% of key players are healthy throughout training camp and preseason:
Ravens over Chiefs. Why? They'll have a top legit run game and andrews will be 100%, passing game opens up and the D will be stronger than ever. Chiefs lose because of multiple new receivers, super bowl hangover and who gives a shit of they lose the first one
Eagles over Packets. Why? Eagles D will help carry them to victory. Hurts ability to run adds more dimension than Love. D line will feast on love. Close game. I think jacobs takes a step back or needs a few games to find his groove. I'd personally would go +12 Packets for wiggle room
Falcons over Steelers. Why? Cousins needs to prove to every person with higher percentages of melatonin in this home opener in ATL that he's not a scrub and that he earned his 100$ guaranteed contact. He has every weapon known to man to succeed on that team plus a not to shabby D. Steelers, Tomlin, Tomlinson, Wilson, WizKhalifa and Justin fields can kick rocks and get their wins after this game.
Cards over bills. Why? Mostly because idk why but figure out the finer details yourself. But seriously, I believe they won't be able to contain Kyler. He's got more to prove than Josh Allen and the bills finally having a full season back from injury. I'd argue the Cards D will be hungrier as well.
Bears over Titans. Why? Caleb Williams seems to be more mature and focused on success than what reports initially were. I think he's gotta play a lil hero ball but I think with the receivers and the D being near top 10 at the end of the season last year the make a statement to the city that Da Bears are back. Levis will have a good team behind but.. ehh.. I think the D let's him down. They'll be good after this first week
Bengals over Patriots. Why? Because Boston hates black people but jokes aside I hope I don't have to explain why.
Colts over Texans. And that's the bottom line because Stone Cold said so!!! I'd like to leave this one up for discussion but I just feel that texans have had everything go for them since last season. Tripping up week 1 wouldn't be a knock to them but I think the O coordinator for the colts, Richardson, Pittman and Taylor..uh.. actually never- mind the Texans win. I think it'll be an interesting match though.
Phins over Jags. Why? Because the women in south Beach are approximately 100x hotter than the ones in Jacksonville. I think speed kills. If the D can pressure Sunshine(can't think of his name) then it'll be though to win the in state battle.
Saints over panthers. Why? Because unless Bryson added 'growing 5 inches' to his off-season todo list or unless all New Orleans floods again then the opener is going to be hype and Carr needs to prove he's not a waste. Also Legette and his southern draw isn't going to draw up anything special to make Carolina magically win this game. I don't give a shit if he can run as fast as his horse qwatah hoaw Dolla Bill.
Vikings over Giants why? I hope I don't need to explain this.
Chargers over Raiders why? Idk why
Seahawks over broncos why? Either Sam Howell or Gen Smith and the receivers and D have absolutely no god(s) damn business losing to a rookie in Nix or Zach Wilson or even Stidham. Also, I don't have better reasons
Browns shit on the Cockboys/Cowgirls why? I really don't feel like typing anymore
Bucs over Commanders why? Last year I said to every Viking living Nordic person in a bar to not under estimate Baker. Quite honestly I don't think Dan Quinns strikes any fear into any teams expect maybe the giants from last year so why would a guy like Baker with a new contract and still a cup on his shoulder and a team with a mostly super bowl caliber players give a fuck now?
Lions over Rams why? Reference Falcons summary and partially the superbowl caliber type players reasoning from above
Jets over the 49ers why? Because Rodgers will be closer to Pacfic ocean. Why does this matter? 76% of the dolphins that used those high frequency sound waves will be in the Bay area that night. That's essentially the equivalent of Super Man fighting near the sun. Quite frankly I don't know how this is even remotely fair or legal. JETS D puts the clamps on the Shanahans scheme picks purdy a couple times, Rodgers throws around 250ish yards and Hall runs for atleast 75 yards and a TD
Would like to know what you guys think.

2024.05.16 01:00 livia2lima Day 9 - Diving into networking

INTRO

The two services your server is now running are sshd for remote login, and apache2 for web access. These are both "open to the world" via the TCP/IP “ports” - 22 and 80.
As a sysadmin, you need to understand what ports you have open on your servers because each open port is also a potential focus of attacks. You need to be be able to put in place appropriate monitoring and controls.

YOUR TASKS TODAY

INSTRUCTIONS

First we'll look at a couple of ways of determining what ports are open on your server:
There are a wide range of options that can be used with ss, but first try: ss -ltpn
The output lines show which ports are open on which interfaces:
sudo ss -ltp State Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address:Port Peer Address:Port Process LISTEN 0 4096 127.0.0.53%lo:53 0.0.0.0:* users:(("systemd-resolve",pid=364,fd=13)) LISTEN 0 128 0.0.0.0:22 0.0.0.0:* users:(("sshd",pid=625,fd=3)) LISTEN 0 128 [::]:22 [::]:* users:(("sshd",pid=625,fd=4)) LISTEN 0 511 *:80 *:* users:(("apache2",pid=106630,fd=4),("apache2",pid=106629,fd=4),("apache2",pid=106627,fd=4))
The network notation can be a little confusing, but the lines above show ports 80 and 22 open "to the world" on all local IP addresses - and port 53 (DNS) open only on a special local address.
Now install nmap with apt install. This works rather differently, actively probing 1,000 or more ports to check whether they're open. It's most famously used to scan remote machines - please don't - but it's also very handy to check your own configuration, by scanning your server:
$ nmap localhost Starting Nmap 5.21 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2013-03-17 02:18 UTC Nmap scan report for localhost (127.0.0.1) Host is up (0.00042s latency). Not shown: 998 closed ports PORT STATE SERVICE 22/tcp open ssh 80/tcp open http Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 0.08 seconds
Port 22 is providing the ssh service, which is how you're connected, so that will be open. If you have Apache running then port 80/http will also be open. Every open port is an increase in the "attack surface", so it's Best Practice to shut down services that you don't need.
Note that however that "localhost" (127.0.0.1), is the loopback network device. Services "bound" only to this will only be available on this local machine. To see what's actually exposed to others, first use the ip a command to find the IP address of your actual network card, and then nmap that.

Host firewall

The Linux kernel has built-in firewall functionality called "netfilter". We configure and query this via various utilities, the most low-level of which are the iptables command, and the newer nftables. These are powerful, but also complex - so we'll use a more friendly alternative - ufw - the "uncomplicated firewall".
First let's list what rules are in place by typing sudo iptables -L
You will see something like this:
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination
So, essentially no firewalling - any traffic is accepted to anywhere.
Using ufw is very simple. It is available by default in all Ubuntu installations after 8.04 LTS, but if you need to install it:
sudo apt install ufw
Then, to allow SSH, but disallow HTTP we would type:
sudo ufw allow ssh sudo ufw deny http
BEWARE! Don't forget to explicitly ALLOW ssh, or you’ll lose all contact with your server! If not allowed, the firewall assumes the port is DENIED by default.
And then enable this with:
sudo ufw enable
Typing sudo iptables -L now will list the detailed rules generated by this - one of these should now be:
“DROP tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:http”
The effect of this is that although your server is still running Apache, it's no longer accessible from the "outside" - all incoming traffic to the destination port of http/80 being DROPed. Test for yourself! You will probably want to reverse this with:
sudo ufw allow http sudo ufw enable
In practice, ensuring that you're not running unnecessary services is often enough protection, and a host-based firewall is unnecessary, but this very much depends on the type of server you are configuring. Regardless, hopefully this session has given you some insight into the concepts.
BTW: For this test/learning server you should allow http/80 access again now, because those access.log files will give you a real feel for what it's like to run a server in a hostile world.

Using non-standard ports

Occasionally it may be reasonable to re-configure a service so that it’s provided on a non-standard port - this is particularly common advice for ssh/22 - and would be done by altering the configuration in /etc/ssh/sshd_config.
Some call this “security by obscurity” - equivalent to moving the keyhole on your front door to an unusual place rather than improving the lock itself, or camouflaging your tank rather than improving its armour - but it does effectively eliminate attacks by opportunistic hackers, which is the main threat for most servers.
But, if you're going to do it, remember all the rules and security tools you already have in place. If you are using AWS, for example, and change the SSH port to 2222, you will need to open that port in the EC2 security group for your instance.

EXTENSION

Even after denying access, it might be useful to know who's been trying to gain entry. Check out these discussions of logging and more complex setups:

2024.05.16 00:46 skitzowrex I set up DHCP Server but it keeps giving default gateway of 0.0.0.0

Here's the network.
Here's my pools.
DHCP server has static IP 192.168.1.2 with default gateway set to 192.168.1.1 in global settings.
All devices generate correct IPs from DHCP server.
PC0 and Laptop0 however generate the default gateway as 0.0.0.0
Every other device gets the correct default gateway except PC0 and Laptop0 connected to switch0. So PC1, PC2, Laptop0 and Printer0, Laptop3, PC3 all work. I can ping from those to each other but not PC0 and Laptop0.
Here is the packet tracer file if that helps
https://www.mediafire.com/file/47emb8ac1uvg8bq/DHCP+Q4.pkt/file
The goal is to make sure all PC's can ping each other. All of them work right now except PC0 and Laptop0.
EDIT: Fixed. I had to restrict available server pool ip addresses to 1.

2024.05.16 00:30 AutoModerator General Questions Thread, May 15, 2024

A thread for new collectors to ask basic questions of the community.
Frequently Asked Questions below!
A longer version of the subreddit rules is here.
For questions specifically concerning bootlegs or vendor legitimacy, please ask in the Bootleg Megathread.
NSFW & Spoiler Guidelines
  • For Self Posts: include a bolded NSFW note next to links in that post.
  • For Links to sites/images: If the figure is NSFW, or the website has any NSFW content (including ads) be sure to tag your post NSFW and use the appropriate link flair.
Bootlegs
Any collection posts containing bootlegs, comments advocating buying bootlegs, or links to sites selling bootlegs, recasts, or unlicensed merchandise will be removed.
People often ask about the legitimacy and/or safety of a number of websites which sell large resin statues. The more commonly-asked of those deal primarily in resins from studios which do not have a license from the Japanese IP holders to produce merchandise. Therefore links to those sites are not permitted here. Another sign is if MyFigureCollection doesn't list the either the statue, its manufacturer, or the shop it's being sold on.
MyFigureCollection
My Figure Collection is like MyAnimeList... but for figures! Their database includes thousands of items which been produced during the last couple of decades, along with reviews of shops and other helpful articles. One can also list their own collection and post gallery photos.

Buying & Shipping

1. What’s the best place to buy my anime figures from?
That’s going to depend a lot on what works for you, but most people around here buy them from Amiami, Big in Japan, Hobby Search, HobbyLink Japan, or Tokyo Otaku Mode. If none of those work for you for whatever reason, there’s a list of reputable retailers in the sidebar that you can check out at any time. Be extra careful when ordering figures from websites like Amazon or ebay, as there are a lot of bootlegs on those sites. Don’t be afraid to ask in our Bootleg Megathread if you’re unsure.
2. What differences are there between the shipping options I get from most Japanese shops?
Below is a rundown of the main shipping choices you’ll get at most retailers. Keep in mind that if an order is large enough you will be forced to use one of the more expensive options, as SAL shipments have lower size and weight restrictions.
  • Unregistered SAL: Sometimes referred to as uSAL, is usually the cheapest method. It does not come with any tracking or insurance. Usually takes up 2-4 weeks for delivery.
  • Registered SAL: Sometimes referred to as rSAL, is insured for the declared value up to 6,000 yen. It comes with a tracking number and usually takes 2-4 weeks for delivery.
  • EMS: This method of shipping is much faster than either SAL options, usually arriving within a week of shipment. EMS shipments are insured for the declared value up to 2,000,000 yen.
  • Airmail
  • E-packet
  • Surface: Shops don't offer this very often. It's an actual cargo ship and slow as a result.
  • DHL: Becoming more available as an alternative to EMS on AmiAmi and other sites. Can be less expensive than EMS and of comparable speed, but may be more reliant on the specific geographical area being shipped to. The price is also determined by the size of the box. Offers their own tracking.
3. I placed two+ orders for figures at different times. Will my items be shipped together, or will I have to pay shipping twice?
Most shops will ask you to pay shipping on a per-order basis, but here are some that will allow combined shipping:
  • Amiami: You can combine orders here, as long as the orders ship in the same month. It doesn’t matter if the item is new or preowned. Any preorders that are set for that month can also be combined with other orders for that month. However, be aware that if the preorder gets delayed, Amiami will remove that item from that month’s shipment and place it on a new order. To combine orders on Amiami, use the “Combine Orders” feature under “My Account”.
  • Hobby Search: Hobby Search will let you combine orders that release in the same month, but you cannot combine in stock items with preorders. If you want to combine multiple preorders, or multiple in stock items, you can do so using the “Order Recombination” feature on your account page.
  • HobbyLink Japan: At HLJ, you have the option to send paid orders to their “Private Warehouse”, where you can store them for up to 2 months. When you’re ready to ship the items, you simply select which items to ship and HLJ will combine them into one shipment for you. To use this, just select the “Private Warehouse” option as shipping when you order.
If you’re unsure about whether or not a shop we haven’t listed will combine your orders, please refer to their individual FAQs.
4. When will I get charged for my preorder?
Most Japanese shops charge you once the item is in stock and ready for shipment. When that happens, they will send you an email asking for payment. Some shops (mostly overseas ones), will allow you to pay for the item up front though, if you’d like. A few with that option are:
  • Big in Japan (Japanese store)
  • Tokyo Otaku Mode
  • Anime Island
  • Crunchyroll
Keep in mind that overseas stores will likely get the figure a few months after Japanese ones, so pay attention to the release date stated on the website you are buying from so as to avoid that confusion.
5. Should I expect to pay customs fees when importing figures?
That depends on where you live. Here’s a quick rundown:
  • Australia: 10% GST is now assessed up front.
  • Canada: Minimum declared value for charges is around CAD$20 for regular shipments, and CAD$60 for gifts (gifting something only seems to lower the declared value by about CAD$40, not deplete it completely). When using Amiami, try their Small Air Packet option. It comes with tracking, gets there in about the same time as EMS, and is better at avoiding customs.
  • European Union: As of 1st July 2021, VAT has to be paid on all goods imported from outside of the EU. Retailers are supposed charge VAT for purchases under €150, however many Japanese retailers currently do not, so VAT will be charged when your order arrives in the EU. Orders that are >€150, VAT and duty will be charged by your local customs.
  • UK: As of 1st January 2021, VAT is to be charged by retailers for orders <£135. However, customs isn't currently charging VAT on parcels valued at <£135, even if the VAT hasn't been paid. Goods >£135 will have their VAT and duty calculated and charged by customs.
  • Mexico: Minimum declared value for customs fees is USD$300 for shipments by post, and USD$50 for shipments by courier.
  • United States: A shipment has to have a declared value of USD$2,000 before customs starts hitting you with fees, so you most likely won’t have to worry about them at all.
6. The figure I want is an exclusive, how do I go about ordering one outside of Japan?
You have three options for this:
A. Big in Japan is known to stock exclusive figures and ship to other countries. Usually the price is higher because they build in their proxy fees, but it’s easier than worrying about using a forwarder or proxy service. If you live in the US, Crunchyroll, Right Stuf, and Tokyo Otaku Mode also get exclusives sometimes, but out of the states the shipping can get expensive.
B. Forwarding Services: A forwarder is someone who you ship an exclusive item to so that they can forward the package on to you, usually for a flat fee + shipping. When using a forwarder you still make the purchase yourself, and enter their address into the shipping field. When the box arrives at the forwarder they will then stick your address onto the package and send it on its way.
Some popular forwarders are:
Be sure to read each sites instructions on forwarding carefully!
C. Proxy Services: With a proxy, you tell them what the item you’re looking for is and they will purchase it in your stead. This is handy for when a company doesn’t accept foreign credit cards, or you’re having trouble navigating a Japanese website.
Some popular proxies are:
Again, be sure you thoroughly read through each sites proxy instructions.
7. I see a bunch of really cheap figures that ship from China on ebay. Are those okay to buy?
Generally, no. They’re most likely bootlegs. If you want a second opinion on that, feel free to ask in the Bootleg Megathread that’s always stickied at the top of the sub.
8. What’s a bootleg, and how can I avoid buying them?
A bootleg is a counterfeit figure often made using rejected molds of the official product. They are usually priced significantly lower than the genuine article, and in order to make their profit, bootleggers use lower quality materials and have less attention to detail- resulting in a substandard figure.
The Bootleg Megathread that I mentioned in question 7 is a great tool to avoid buying any bootlegs. It has a few tips and tricks to avoiding them to begin with, and a few more on how to spot them if you’re worried you might already own one.
9. Does anyone know when figure X is going to be released? How do I know if it was delayed?
My Figure Collection (sometimes referred to as MFC) does an excellent job of staying on top of information like release dates and delays. If you’re curious about an upcoming figures release date, check there first. This information can be found directly under the “Releases” section on a figure’s entry. If you only see a month and a year in that section, it means the release date has not yet been announced by the manufacturer, and there is still a chance the figure could be delayed.
If you make an account on MFC you can also subscribe to comments, changes, and pictures via a checkbox on the right hand side of a figure’s listing. Subscribing to any of these things will allow MFC to send you an email anytime the subscription in question updates. Subscribing to “changes” is a great way to keep up with release dates and delays, among other things.
10. The figure I want is long sold out at normal retailers! What’s the best place to pick it up in the aftermarket?
A list of reputable retailers can be found under the “Shops” section of the /AnimeFigures sidebar. They all sell legitimate products, and many of them also sell figures second hand. However, the most frequently suggested second hand sites are Mandarake and Amiami- who has a preowned section that they update every night save Sundays and Japanese holidays around 1PM JST and again around 6PM JST.
AmiAmi grades their pre-owned items on a letter scale. The general consensus from buyers is that their ratings are conservative, so unless the item and/or packaging is specifically indicated as having significant flaws, pre-owned items from them are usually in at least as good a condition as their rating suggests.
Note: When you search Mandarake, you’ll get the best results by using the Japanese characters for whatever you are searching. If you don’t know them, you can find them on MFC by clicking on any of the “details” in that figure’s listing.
11. Amiami has a figure I’m interested in labeled as “For sale in Japan only”. Does this mean I can’t order it without a proxy or forwarder?
No, you can still order it. Amiami’s English site has that warning on many items, and it’s mostly meant to inform you that this product was made for a Japanese market, and as such, will have Japanese speaking/writing in it- so don’t expect any instructions to be in English. If Amiami doesn’t want foreigners buying a certain product, they won’t even list it on their English site.

Displaying Your Figures

12. What display cases do you recommend?
If you live near an Ikea try out one of these:
  • Klingsbo
  • Billy (Often used with Morliden doors (now the HÖGBO and glass shelves.)
  • Detolf: Formerly the go-to choice for inexpensive display cabinetry, the Detolf was first made flimsier around 2020 and then essentially phased out of the name, to become the BLÅLIDEN. Knockoff versions of widely-varying quality are commonly found on other shopping sites these days, though.
*If you decided on a Detolf, you might find that there is a lot of wasted space. Here are a few tutorials on raising the shelves or and adding extra ones in.
If you don’t live near an Ikea, Amazon has a few display options, though they are more expensive. Also keep an eye on your local Craigslist (or your country’s equivalent) and stores near you that are closing up.
13. What lighting do you guys recommend?
Ikea’s Dioder LED strips were discontinued after a long run. A current version is the Vattensten, if you're inclined to buy your case and lights at the same time.
LED strips have become very commonly available in recent years; most hardware and home furnishing stores carry a selection now. Just make sure that the lights don’t get too hot!
14. What are those clear plastic boxes that I see under everyone’s figures in their collection posts, and where can I get them?
Those are called risers. Most of us use standard acrylic risers like these. Some other, easy to find things that have been suggested are:
Check your local hobby store for the first 2 options, or your local hardware store if you want to make your own.
Another common suggestion is to visit The Container Store if you have one near you. They have a lot of things to choose from that can suit a variety of needs. Be sure to check out their standard acrylic risers, their Amac boxes, and the various display cases they sell (baseball cases, mini car cases. hockey puck cases, etc).
15. Should I keep my figures sealed?
That is, of course, up to you really, but here are a few things to keep in mind when debating this question:
  • Keeping it sealed can actually damage your figure. PVC figures usually have something called plasticizer in them, and that plasticizer needs to be able to breath. If a PVC figure isn’t exposed to oxygen, after a period of time the plasticizer starts to break down and form a sticky substance on the surface of the figure. Simply opening your figures and taking them out of the box prevents this from happening. If you happen to find plasticizer goo on one of your figures, Kahotan has a handy guide for dealing with it.
  • Unlike some other figure markets, keeping an anime figure sealed won’t raise its value by a whole lot. In fact, because of the plasticizer problem mentioned above, your figure could actually be in better condition if you open it versus keeping it sealed.

Finding the Right Figure(s) for You

16. What are "scales" and "prizes"? What is the difference between them?
Those are classifications for figures based on a few factors.
  • "Prizes" are generally more simply produced figures which are intended to be given as prizes for playing arcade games. They are inexpensive and lack the detail of scale figures, though some prize figure lines have standouts which may approach lower-end scales in quality. That is uncommon and often depends on the individual figure.
  • "Scales" are called such because they are nominally designed to be proportional to the dimensions of the character which they are based on. They are generally of much better manufacture and materials than prize figures, allowing for more detail in painting, accessories, or complex poses.
  • "Trading" figures appear in gashapon machines or as blind boxes on shop counters, often as sets which include multiple characters. As suggested by the class name, the randomness encourages trading. They are usually very inexpensively-produced, though as with prizes, some series are better than others.
  • "Non-scale" encompasses a variety of other categories. It is often used to describe poseable figure lines such as figma and Nendoroids.
In recent years producers such as Good Smile Company attempted to further bridge the gap between prize quality and scales by introducing figure lines which are intended to be moderately-priced while retaining a higher level of detail than the typical prize figure, to varying levels of success.
17. There are so many figure companies! Who makes good figures?!
Obviously this is a very subjective question, but as a general starting point, here are a few well renowned figure companies:
  • Alter
  • Max Factory
  • Good Smile Company
  • Kotobukiya (usually hit or miss for people. Use your best judgement based off of the prototype)
  • Flare
  • Stronger
18. I really love “series X / character X”- how can I check if any figures were ever made for it?
My Figure Collection can be your best friend here. Simply do a search on the name of the series or character using the search bar located at the top right of the screen, and all associated figures pop up!
Alternatively, if you’re looking at a figure’s MFC entry, most of the text under the “Details” section can be clicked on and used to run a search.
19. How can I commission a custom figure?
None of the major figure companies (Alter, Kotobukiya, Good Smile Company, etc.) will take a commission for a single figure. This thread has a few websites in it that you can check out, or you can look into garage kits. Some kit painters would be willing to resculpt, frankenstein together, or otherwise modify kits for the right price.
If you're looking for help completing a garage kit, /brushforhire may be useful.

Keeping Up with New Announcements

20. How can I keep up with figure news (announcements, updates, etc.)?
Most people use a MFC combined with any or all of the following news sites:
Many figure companies are active on Twitter, so following them there is recommended for quicker news.
To use MFC for this I’ll quote question #9.
Most companies have one or more Twitter accounts. Some examples: Good Smile Company sales, Good Smile's USA branch, Max Factory, AmiAmi Hobby News.
21. Everyone’s excited about something called Wonfes….. what the heck is that?!
WonFes (short for Wonder Festival) is a biannual figure expo where many figure producers (both large and small) show off new sculpts and updates to figures already under way. Most companies save their most exciting announcements for WonFes, so we all look forward to the expo whenever it rolls around! Winter Wonder Festival is usually held in February, while Summer Wonder Festival is usually in July. The event has also spread to Shanghai, in the late spring.
22. One or two (or 15) figures were announced at WonFes that I’m really excited about! How can I keep track of their progress once the event is over?
MFC is always really quick about getting new WonFes announcements (or any others throughout the year, for that matter) listed in their database, so we suggest using that. To find a figure from the event you can search any number of things, including the name of the character or the name of the show. You can also use the tag search to search “WonderFestival 20xx_[season]” to see all items announced at that event.

2024.05.15 22:36 Striking_Case7000 do I have to bleach the color out?

Hi! I’m looking for advice about what the next best and safest move is for my hair. I’m naturally a level 6-7, with fine, type 2 hair. I started with completely virgin hair.
1.I lightened the hair behind my ears (narcissa malfoy inspired) to a level 9 by doing two rounds of lightener with 20 volume cream developer. I left this alone for about one month.
2.I decided I wanted to go back to my natural color, so I put Arctic Fox’s Sunset Orange diluted with white conditioner on my hair to re-pigment. (I think this was my first mistake)
3.Then, in mental-breakdown-fashion, I used box dye. I used a box dye that was a level 7. It didn’t show up over the orange filler I did, so I did another box dye over it in a warm level 6, and surprise: it’s too dark, and also red/orange.
4.I used the ion color remover packet first, and it didn’t do much to lift the color. In a panic I went out and got some Color Oops, which didn’t do much either (and yes, I rinsed for 30 minutes!)
5.I got the Malibu CPR treatment and went ahead with that. It also did nothing for me. I can tell some of the pigment is obviously gone because my hair doesn’t look as saturated as when I started, but it’s still a dark looking level 6 that’s an off red/orange color.
Now I’m just wondering how I should proceed; if I need to wait a certain amount of time to do anything, if I shouldn’t use bleach because it will push the pigment further into my hair, etc. Ideally I want to either try to lighten it again to a level 8 at least, or figure out how to make the current color match the rest of my head. I have pretty neutral light brown hair that’s a true level 6.5. Any advice for my next move?

2024.05.15 20:14 sloppyseconded Whirlpool WDT750SAHZ Dishwasher Weird Non-Operation Issues - Only Certain Operating Modes

I'll try to keep this as succinct in possible. Over the last few weeks, my 5-year old dishwasher has been having issues.
Is there a malfunction or failure you guys can think of that would only affect specific operating modes, but not others? I am going to try and run the official service technician diagnostic procedure later (using the blinks of the lights on the display panel to identifya function/error code combination), but I've found this to be a very strange and difficult to diagnose problem. Any guidance or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Acerglyn/mead smells like straight up puke
This has been going for about 50 days. I bought the glass from a guy on OfferUp , and assumed I cleaned it well enough. Today I was planning to rack and I popped off the lid and wow, smells absolutely repulsive. Now my whole house smells like someone just hurled up redlobsters endless shrimp. Obviously somethings wrong in my brief google it appears an infection. Is there anything I can do or is it trash.
5 pounds 9 ounces of maple syrup 3 pounds 5 ounces of honey 11gs fermaid-o 1 packet of ec-1118
Sat for 50ish days.
Smells like ass
Should I just pour it out? Or what do I even do with it now.

2024.05.15 20:00 Sea_Blood889 Day 4 Elvanse

After a long wait to start titration I'm now on day 4 of Elvanse 20mg.
I was really anxious to start medication as I was backwards and forwards with the 'do I really have adhd' but I kinda felt like my first day made me realise I probably do have adhd 😅
•my mind is quieter, no more internal dialogue shouting or having songs on repeat in my head
•I can do tasks, fnish them & not feel dread. No more 'I'll do it in 5 minutes' which leads to nothing getting done
•anxiety has dramatically decreased & depression has lifted
•brain fog has gone
•feel like I'm wearing a stronger pair of glasses, noticing things more and just a bit 'sharper' in general
•can make a conscious effort to make lunch and not just snack on 6 packets of crisps and stuff out the fridge
Day 1-I had a cracking headache. I put it down to not drinking enough water & going cold turkey on caffeine.
Day 2, 3 & 4 no headache. But everyday at 3pm I'm hitting a huge slump. Brain fog returns and I get tension pain in my neck & I start getting super tired. Around 2 hours later it improves slightly so I can make it through the rest of the day but that 'crash' is tough and I feel a huge wave of adhd symptoms coming back and feel spaced out. Today I got a bit of depression back and feeling a little 'hopeless' and negative about the situation.
6.30am- overnight oats, banana & a glass of water
7am 20mg elvanse- more water
12pm lunch
3pm protein bar
7pm dinner
I'm continuously drinking water throughout the day. I'm making a huge conscious effort to do that as I know these meds can dehydrate you which I learnt on the first day!
I'm due to go up to 30mg on day 7 but I'm worried how that's going to go now and if the 'crash' will get harder?
Anyone dealt with something similar and what ended up happening for you?
Thanks in advance!

there is 2 Nexus 9372px switches running with nxos 9.3(10) and i established VXLAN tunnel between them both nexus switches pinged each other successfully but the issue is when i try to ping between R4 and R6 (Both are mikrotik router and even if i use cisco same issue i have) they cant ping each other however both routers see the other as a neighbor and can perform mac ping but they cant ping IP addresses on the same vlan (3322 in my case) below there is a config of both nexus 1 and nexus 2 switches: NEXUS 1 Config: IP Interface Status for VRF "default"(1) Interface IP Address Interface Status ETH2/2 10.11.1.1protocol-up/link-up/admin-up Lo0 10.15.15.15protocol-up/link-up/admin-up ping 10.15.15.20 source 10.15.15.15 PING 10.15.15.20 (10.15.15.20) from 10.15.15.15: 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 10.15.15.20: icmp_seq=0 ttl=254 time=1.13 ms 64 bytes from 10.15.15.20: icmp_seq=1 ttl=254 time=0.705 ms 64 bytes from 10.15.15.20: icmp_seq=2 ttl=254 time=0.626 ms 64 bytes from 10.15.15.20: icmp_seq=3 ttl=254 time=0.7 ms 64 bytes from 10.15.15.20: icmp_seq=4 ttl=254 time=0.617 ms --- 10.15.15.20 ping statistics --- 5 packets transmitted, 5 packets received, 0.00% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max = 0.617/0.755/1.13 ms -----NVE1-------- interface nve1 no shutdown source-interface loopback0 member vni 33220 ingress-replication protocol static peer-ip 10.15.15.20 -----------VLAN CONFIG------- version 9.3(10) Bios:version 07.69 vlan 3322 vlan 3322 vn-segment 33220 Nexus 2 config : Interface IP Address Interface Status eth2/2 10.11.1.2protocol-up/link-up/admin-up Lo0 10.15.15.20protocol-up/link-up/admin-up version 9.3(10) Bios:version 07.69 vlan 3322 vn-segment 33220 version 9.3(10) Bios:version 07.69 interface nve1 no shutdown source-interface loopback0 member vni 33220 ingress-replication protocol static peer-ip 10.15.15.15

2024.05.15 19:51 Dazzling-Ad3087 Support passive needs a buff

Tank has 3 massive passives in one. Dps passive back at 20% (reduces 1/5 of your healing), which is a lot especially with characters like soldier, tracer constantly applying it with little to no effort compared to projectile dps. The support passive is just the UNIVERSAL regen passive a little bit faster?
There needs to be some kind of buff to it or add something because this feels really unfair compared to the other passives. Can’t have nothing good as a support main.

2024.05.15 19:29 doppler793 Odd CEPH IOWAIT problem

Posted on Proxmox because it's a Proxmox build using Proxmox tools.
I have recently created a Debian 12.5 VM on my Proxmox cluster on the ceph storage, and noticed it took a very long time to install. Afterwards I ssh'd in, again seemed slow, responsiveness just seemed off. Looking at top's stats iowait jumped from time to time.
I created a 4GB zero file (dd if=/dev/zero of=/4GB bs=1024k count=4096) and iowait was high for this action. Then did a dd read (dd if=/4GB of=/dev/null bs=1024k) and the iowait went way up, it uses 80+ percent of a full vCPU. Repeat, same problem, iowait remains high and throughput is mediocre at 88 to 100MB/s.
It's a new cluster, (I'll document this below) so it doesn't have a lot on it right now. I went to another Debian based appliance that I had installed and did the dd tests on it... almost 0 iowait and good throughput from 600 to 1.2+ GB/s. Repeatable with no issues.
I expanded the disk for the iowait vm from 16 go 50GB. I added a new /5GB file and it doesn't have the iowait issue. But the /4GB file still does it's massive iowait
My Cluster:
2 x Dell R630's with 48vCPU's at 2.60GHz and 128GB of Memory (all memory channels filled)
2 x Dell R640's with 48vCPU's at 2.60GHZ and 96GB of Memory (all memory channels filled)
Each server has 4 x Broadcom 1Gb/s LAN (for Proxmox management and VM access) and Intel 10Gb/s Dual Interface Card, Perc7 RAID controller, configured in HBA Mode, 6 x 300GB 10K SAS drives (2 for btrfs OS, 4 x for ZFS) and 2 x 600GB 10K SAS drives (for CEPH OSD).
CEPH is on the 600GB drives, and exclusively uses the 10Gb/s network. The network is not ideal right now, my network guys didn't have 4+ ports available on the switching network, so we went with a bridged network connection with the following Topology. So there are 8 x 600GB OSD's for CEPH.
S1-N2 -> S2-N1 - S2-N2 -> S3-N1 - S3-N2 -> S4-N1 - S4-N2 -> S1-N1 (all SM Fiber)
I added extra configuration to the bridges (N1 and N2 on each server) to enable spanning tree which kills one port due to the loop, but keeps everything up and running if one server disappears (like when I'm doing upgrades). Yes I know the kernel has to switch all these packets, even one's not destined for it. I will get proper networking soonish....
Network testing has shown no issues, simple dd of all the raw /dev/sd[gh] (600 gb drives) has shown good read throughput of 250MB/s+ for each drive and no drive out from each other by much.
I'm at a loss... I don't really understand how ceph places disks, and their pieces, it's a standard Proxmox setup, 3 copies minimum 2. It almost feels like one of my disks on one of the servers has a bad disk that isn't "phoning home" an issue and is bottlenecking.... but on the server side none of this is seen, and I don't know how to determine where the makeup of this raw vm partition is on the ceph OSDS.
Any help would be much appreciated, this is truly driving me bonkers.
Thanks
Andrew

2024.05.15 19:11 bobodoustaud My take on the Mercy balancing

Ayo guys!

First of all, I have to say that I have only 100 hours on Mercy and that I started playing in S9, so I am a little bit of a noob. I saw quite a few posts and comments talking about balance changes for Mercy, ranging from complete reworks to simple number changes, and I must say that none of them seemed very reasonable, like giving Mercy her Mirrorwatch ult, or removing Rez, or just pumping her healing numbers. Then again, I am a noob. So I spent some time thinking about improvements for her actual kit, trying to address the main concerns I read.

First, let's get some data:

  • **Kiriko:** 76.5 HP/s (35m)
  • **Baptiste:** 68.93 HP/s
  • **Lifeweaver:** 51.8 HP/s (30m)
  • **Mercy:** 55 HP/s (15m)
  • **Suzu:** 15 seconds, no drawbacks
  • **Immortality Field:** 25 seconds, no drawbacks
  • **Life Grip:** 19 seconds, no drawbacks
  • **Resurrect:** 30 seconds, 1.75 seconds of cast time with -75% speed
*(Kiriko OP!!!)*

Observations:

  1. **Mercy's healing** isn't that low considering Lifeweaver heals less than her, although Mercy would spend time damage boosting in practice, so her heals would very likely be lower than Lifeweaver's. Her range being low isn't that much of a deal due to her mobility though.
  2. **Rez**, although powerful, has some pretty harsh drawbacks compared to abilities that offer more utility, are more versatile, have more range, and are on a lower cooldown with no drawbacks.

Problem: Rez is too rigid and dangerous compared to similar abilities like Life Grip, Lamp, or Suzu

**Solution: Rez now has 2 charges**
  • Allows for a 30-second window for you to choose who you rez, instead of having to choose between risking your life or wasting your cooldown.
  • Resurrecting a teammate twice in a short period can be prevented by not spawning a soul if you die within 10 seconds or so from being resurrected.

Problem: Her heals feel weak

Problem: Pocketing is not fun

**Solution: Implementation of a "crit healing"**
The +50% healing when below 50% HP was a pretty terrible way of implementing it, in my opinion, and so is the TF2 implementation of it.
  • Every teammate has an invisible gauge of 20% of their max HP that constantly fills by 5 HP per second while not being beamed by you (damage or heal).
  • When you heal that teammate, that gauge gets drained by 20 every second and gets added to your healing per second (so 75 HP/s).
  • For Valkyrie, every teammate beamed or not regenerates 5 HP/s in their gauge. Valk healing could be nerfed back to 55 HP/s to compensate. Second rule still applies. With empty gauges, this would effectively be the exact same ult as today.

Examples:

  • **Roadhog (800 HP)**
    • *Before:* 0 -> 800 takes 14.54 seconds
    • *After (assuming full gauge, which takes 48 seconds to fill up, 160 HP internalized):* 0 -> 800 takes 8 secs at 75 HP/s and 3.63 seconds at 55 HP/s so 11.63s total.
  • **Tracer (175 HP)**
    • *Before:* 0 -> 175 takes 3.18 seconds
    • *After (assuming full gauge, which takes 7 seconds to fill up, 35 HP internalized):* 0 -> 175 takes 1.75 secs at 75 HP/s and 0.8 seconds at 55 HP/s so 2.55s total.
Approximately 25% faster healing from 0 to 100% HP and 36% faster burst healing (assuming a filled gauge).
If these numbers look too good, remember that the gauge is now empty and Mercy heals only for 55 HP/s and has to leave Roadhog be for a whopping 48 seconds, and that Kiriko could have healbotted him for an even faster rate anyways. Besides, these numbers should require some tweaking anyways.

TL;DR for Crit Healing:

  • **Teammates passively build up a healing gauge (5 HP/s) when not being healed by Mercy with a max of 20% of their max HP.**
  • **When Mercy heals a teammate, the gauge drains, boosting her healing from 55 HP/s to 75 HP/s until the gauge is empty.**
  • **During Valkyrie, teammates continue to build up their gauges even while being healed. Valkyrie is nerfed back to 55 HP/s.**
This allows for stronger burst healing initially but returns to normal healing after the gauge is depleted, and enforces a more team-centric and mobile gameplay.

Random Misc Changes:

  • **Rez and GA initiation hitboxes** could be increased, how many times was a teammate's center of mass or a soul's center barely behind a wall and denied my input?
  • **Guardian Angel's slingshot** or even Angelic Descent for that matter could benefit from something akin to airstrafing in Source Engine games (but without the speed increase, just the maneuverability). This could be pretty nice and would increase skill expression. (I don't think reverting GA to its original state with old superjumps and no slingshot is a very good idea)
That's my take on trying to fix her kit without nuking her identity. What do you guys think? W or L?

2024.05.15 17:51 roseyposiepie Passed Step One

Hi all,
I've been lurking in this subreddit for the past two months and I got the P today so I thought I'd give some advice and do a write-up on my experiences.
First and foremost, I had a disability and had to apply for accommodations. I started the process in November for my test in May and submitted a packet of disability records and medical records going back to elementary school. If anyone needs accommodations, start as soon as possible and get a disability consultant if you can.
I used UWorld throughout my first two years of preclinical to study for NBME tests during my curriculum so I started dedicated with probably 30% complete and an average of 60%. The day I took my test I had 75% complete with an average of 64%. UWorld is a study resource first and foremost, so I spent a lot of time reviewing corrects and incorrects and walking through what changes to the question stem would make the given options the correct answer.
I only did Forms 25-27 because my school only gave us 3 vouchers, and I couldn't afford to buy more CBSAs, but I also did UWorld Self-Assessments 1-3. Scores: Form 25 (diagnostic) 56%, Form 26 64%, Form 27 72% (the week before I took Step 1), UWSA1 68%, UWSA2 62%, and UWSA3 69%. I got sick a few days before I took the test so I stopped studying and focused on getting better (chronic illness sucks), so I didn't do the Free 120 like I planned. But I had recovered by the time I took Step 1. Taking a few days before the exam off was probably the best thing I did for myself, actually. I didn't realize until I was getting better how exhausted and burned out I had been for the past few weeks.
I used CramFighter by Blueprint Prep to organize my study schedule. It was completely free. My main resources were Dirty Medicine, Pathoma, First Aid, and then reviewing those UWorld questions. I started doing 40 a day and the two weeks leading up to my exam I was probably doing 120-160 a day. I usually did a full practice test every Monday (take it in the morning, review in the afternoon) and then Tue-Sun spent my morning working through UWorld questions and my afternoon reviewing content. I usually studied 5-7 hours a day, depending on how my week went. I had 6 weeks of dedicated, but I decided to take the test 5 weeks in and delay to the extra week if I needed it (I didn't, I enjoyed my week off).
Day before the test, I woke up early so I would go to sleep early, and I spent about an hour and a half exercising out the stress. Day of the test, I had a big breakfast full of protein and fiber, and snacked on protein bars throughout the day so I didn't have a blood sugar crash. I also drank about 2 liters of water. Use your breaks! I spent them walking around my testing center or meditating (I know it sounds lame but breathing work actually works).
My best advice would be that you are your own worst enemy. If you think you're going to fail, you're more likely to fail. I told myself the entire time that I was definitely going to pass and that studying for it was just going through the motions. Otherwise, I think I would've been paralyzed by the stress.
Good luck to everyone out there!
