2024.06.09 11:53 Outrageous-Adagio683 How to read and best philosopher/philosophy books for a novice (sorry in advance)

I know this is probably the most repeated question, thus i apologize in advance
I got surface level knowledge of most philosophies(I had taken crash course philosophy in youtube). I got pretty concrete beliefs at this point of my life probably due to being subjected to existentialism, nihilism, stoicism etc at a young age (i am still young) and I resonate most with absurdism if I am not mistaken. I decided to read philosophy properly now to update my perspectives and i am confused whether to start with secondary sources or primary sources and what might be the best option for a novice to the philosophical book world. I read a paper on how to read philosophy by Dawid Concepcion. But I found the methods to be pretty overwhelming and time consuming for me. I am planning to tone down the methods. So if you guys have better and easier methods, please do share.
Also could you guys please recommend some good philosophers or books to start with
Dislikes - Aesthetics, Theology ( I don't want to read any stuff on god because i already believe strongly atheism is the most rational & scientific choice), Non scientific schools of thoughts
PS: If it might help in reccomendation, i resonate a lot with mark mason's subtle art of not giving a fuck book so I enjoy ideas like that.

2024.06.09 11:48 AutomaticManner9217 Loveless, empty and alone

I’ve been sitting here for the past three hours just thinking, mainly about this girl from a while ago. I’m 19 now and I’m thinking about this girl I’m still friends with, I remember we used to sit by each other in middle school, and by sit by each other I mean that we would literally pull our desks together, so close that sometimes our arms would touch. We would goof around and get yelled at by the teacher. I remember one time we even ditched the big gym gathering going on to just walk around the school for a little while. I don’t know how she felt about me at the time but man did I love her. And I know that usually doesn’t meant shit in middle school but I really liked her.
All this started happening the last year I would be at that school, then I left. I stopped talking to her as much and formed my crushes every now and again as one does in school, but it was never like her. I eventually got it off my chest and told her how I felt about her, she responded not the worst, primarily with a thank you for telling her. After a while longer we talk every now and again and keep up streaks on Snapchat. But man. I wish things were different.
I wish I could hold someone by my side, have love again like that for someone. I wish I could wake up next to someone, it’s gotten so bad that my only dreams are simply me laying next to someone in my bed, extremely happy and peaceful. It’s gotten so bad that I don’t want to wake from these dreams and sleep till 11am-1pm. I wake up and realize that I’m sleeping in a bed without anyone next to me. It hurts so much.
Every day I can’t help but feel so sad. I wake up alone, I have family but it feels like they don’t really care about me, or anything I have to say, plus I’ve grown quite distant from them. My friends have either moved away or fallen out of my life. Life just sucks I guess. I wish I wasn’t so alone. Sometimes I wish I could just go back in time, turn the clock back. Wake up and none of this happened sort of thing.
I don’t know. Rant over I guess, thanks for reading and listening if you did. Maybe all of this is all over the place but I feel like I just need to get it out, talk about it.

2024.06.09 11:46 Key_Extension_1939 What should I do?

There is a girl in my school whom I knew when we were in middle school. I am already in my second year of high school. I don't know how to talk to her. She likes to write books. My original idea was to ask her to let me read one of her books, but she told me, "Uh, sorry, I don't have the computer where I write it right now," and that literally killed all my plans. My idea was to read the book and ask her things about it, like "What inspired you?", "I liked this part," "Oh, this sound familiar." But that killed all of that. I don't know how to talk to her. We travel on the school bus together. She gets on before me and gets off after me, so there's no possibility of her approaching me casually. When the school bus is full and I have to sit with her, I really want to talk to her about whatever, but the fear paralyzes me. I can't even talk.
So, to summarize and explain better:
There is a girl I want to talk to, but I am afraid of the "What ifs..." What if I sound dumb to her? What if she has a boyfriend? What if she likes someone else? And the worst part is, I can't approach her casually (which is the worst for an antisocial person like me).
She always sits in the back of the school bus, and most of the time she is alone. I can't sit "casually" with her when there is an empty seat in front. She is in another class, and during recess, she is with her group of friends. There are no opportunities 😞
I was thinking about asking her again if she has recovered her computer, but I don't know if I would be being annoying at this point. What should I do?

2024.06.09 11:37 peanny77 if i were yanderedev, i would…

• remove the entire panty thing. why is it even a feature in the first place??? gross as hell and i genuinely don't get how guys could like a pic of a girl's underwear. and about the bonus panties, just change them to normal accessories like bracelets or hair clips.
• since we're gonna stop sexualizing minors here, imma screw the entire "this is a college with a high school aesthetic" thingy and make in an ACTUAL high school. also name it something else than "akademi". then ayano would be 16 as she's in her second year
• remove/rewrite mida and muja as rivals and re-add kokona instead. she's an icon, deserves to be in the final game and is actually finished 😭
• randomize so students don't walk to school in the same way every single day, some can be running and some walking, talking to each other ect... add random rainy days so students' routines are altered as they can no longer go outside. would make things more life-like in-game
• rework the "give positive/negative remark" feature because after all these years those unrealistic dialogues still give me the ick. for example if we're gossiping about someone who hates reading, instead of "did you know that _ really hates reading", we can say "did you know that _ finds books really lame".
• screw all those google translate names and give some of the students more unique designs. honestly i prefer the 1980s students to the 202x ones because of that, really hate how every member of the drama club has purple hair.

2024.06.09 11:37 JW01953 My adult circumcision experience

I was cut as an adult mostly from growing up in the US (majority are cut), kids in middle and high school would make fun of me for it I guess you could say I was bullied for it, but I had no idea at the time that my penis could be different or that people would commonly cut a piece of it off. I didn’t get why they were that way about MY PENIS, since it wasn’t my choice the same way them being cut wasn’t their choice. But it messed with my head and that didn’t stop until getting it cut off, it was a huge relief walking out of the surgery center knowing I was now circumcised. I’m super happy with it, I was definitely scared and super nervous to really go thru with it. But it took three weeks to heal, three painless weeks despite what I read online. It was at that point I realized I was like everyone else. The way it feels now is unexplainably better. It looks better both hard and soft. The smell that it had is never there which I still find weird cuz I was used to that smell anytime it was taken out. No girls since have said anything about having a “weird dick” (like the first two I had sex with had said). I was limited to only being able to wear cotton underwear for the first year after the procedure all the other materials would rub the head differently and cause a discomfort and I’d have to readjust constantly. But that has since gone away. I would definitely have to say it is a major improvement in every way or it has been in my experience. Anyone thinking about it, I say just do it it’s 100% worth it.

2024.06.09 11:35 maureenagracia hirap kausap!!

Ahhh nakakaloka!!
Hindi mahilig gumala ang tatay ko, unless may sarili kaming sasakyan - the sasakyan in question breaks down frequently, so ayaw nya ring dalhin sa malayong lugar (ex. the closest city to our barangay).
Onto the issue:
Kaso!!
Tina-try ko s'yang kumbinsihin, kinakausap din s'ya ng tatay ko, kaso I can tell na walang makakapagpabago ng isip n'ya. Ayaw n'ya talaga. Gusto kong magpaiwan kasi I don't like leaving her alone, kaso gusto ko ring sumama sa trip kasi 1) bayad na, nakakahiyang umatras and 2) like I said, I want to explooooreeee. I am not one who grows roots in a certain place, atat na atat na akong umalis kaso alam kong hindi praktikal so I'll take little opportunities like this.
I'm also trying to have a more positive perspective on this. Yung nanay ko, mas gusto n'ya talaga mag-isa s'ya. She's really independent, tsaka she can easily get company when she feels like it. Minsan mas gusto n'ya nung may pasok pa kami ng tatay ko kasi she gets the house to herself. Baka susulitin n'ya ang time na 'to para maging mas malaya. IDK.
Hays! This is making me think of other Thoughts na may kinalaman sa mga magulang ko na mas malungkot. Pero ayaw ko munang i-acknowledge 'yun, kaya ito na lang muna, haha.
Sana lang everything goes well this month at wala kaming pagsisihan sa mga desisyon namin.

2024.06.09 11:34 Last-Mind-6771 Book with a red cover about a character being communicated with telepathically

So i read this book when i was in like middle school and i found it in one if those little free libraries but like i said in the title the book had a dark red cover and it was about two main characters who could communicate telepathically. I forget the main protagonists name but i think the other character (who may have been the antagonist i cant remember) who could talk to her telepathically may have been named Zeb or Zev or something with a z. This z person may have been trying to get out of a facility that they were being kept in but i don’t remember why. If anyone has any clue as to what the books name was it would be really appreciated.

FAQ

I live in El SalvadoCanada/Colombia/USA, why are you posting on a Saturday?!
Because I'm writing this from Europe in the future where it's already Sunday. Timezones be crazy.
Why are there a bunch of non-board games in the board game list?
Because the Tabletop games category on Kickstarter includes anything remotely related to board games and sometimes things slip through my filters.
Why is this future award winning board game and literal saviour of humanity missing from your list?
Sometimes my filters get a bit overzealous and discard actually valid projects. If you feel something is missing for this reason, leave a comment and I'll add it (maybe).
Can I donate all my money to you?
No
Can you help me promote my game?
Please no. I make lists. Nothing more.
Your list is full of errors and now I cnat spel amymor!
Indeed, this fine piece of code runs purely on single malt whisky, so anything can happen. Leave a comment and I'll see what I can do.

2024.06.09 11:12 Hopia4Sale If you were a kid again, what financial advice would you give to your younger self?

Let's give all the young and the new generations an idea of what they should start at a young age.
Personally, I'll do this:
  1. Read Financial books about Budgeting, Economy, Investing, as well as habits that can help you in the long run
  2. Start contributing on SSS, Pagibig, and mp2 kahit minimum contribution lang.
  3. Instead of buying consumable things such as food, I'll buy things that will last and will also give me benefits in the long run such as books and things for my hobbies.
  4. Avoid Debt at all cost.
  5. Invest in myself and learn marketable skills
  6. Instead of saving up for emergency fund, I'll save up for an opportunity fund. I've missed a lot of experiences and opportunities because of lack of resources.
  7. Get high grades during senior high school and use those to apply on scholarships (CHED, DOST, etc.)

2024.06.09 11:09 incyweb How I befriended books

My study is piled high with books. There are hundreds of books on shelves, stacked on the floor and flanking a laptop on the desk. Subjects covered include marketing, psychology, music, business, design, coding, writing and drawing. I love books. However, it has not always been the case. At school, English was my worst subject and I avoided books, like the plague. In an end of term report, one teacher noted, Phil is not a natural, but finds ways to entertain himself.

Enjoying books

One of the greatest gifts adults can give to their offspring and society is to read to children. - Carl Sagan
The following approach to books helped transform me from a reluctant to an enthusiastic reader:
  1. Read topics that excite me. By age fifteen, the only book I had read out of choice was Godel, Escher and Bach. I was excited to read about the fascinating connections between maths, art and music. Not that I knew it at the time, but this sparked my interest in books.
  2. Drop books that are not holding my attention. I used to feel that if I started a book then I had to finish it. I now have what Nassim Taleb refers to as an Anti-library - unread books that represent an excellent reference source.
  3. Have a low threshold for buying books. Books often cost less than £10 (the same as a few cups coffee). For the enjoyment a book can bring, they are incredibly good value. So many of my life changing decisions have come down to reading a book, e.g. this blog came into being after reading Show Your Work by Austin Kleon.
  4. Read books in parallel. I often have five to ten books on the go, on different topics. I read physical books for about 30 minutes per day.
  5. Listen to audio books. When on my daily walk, I often listen to audio books. I often buy the audio version of physical books I own.
  6. Create a conducive environment for reading. I often read in my living room. On the coffee table are about ten books. This makes it easy to read when I sit down. I also have the Books app on the front screen on my iPhone.
  7. Read on an iPad. The size and weight of my iPad makes it a great device to read in coffee shops and elsewhere.
  8. Self image upgrade. I realised that many people I admired read books. I wanted to be more like them so I became a reader.

2024.06.09 10:59 HealthyYard6559 Revelation 6-Introduction

John's Revelation can be divided into several parts in which the periods of the past, present and future are described:
The past is described in the first chapter and there we have a description of the glorified Christ, the present is described from the second to the fifth and that is the period of the Church, and in this part there is one part that is also the future for us because it has not yet happened and it refers to the Church that is in heaven and the events described from the sixth chapter onwards are future.
For a better understanding of God's plan and program until the end of time, we will study Daniel's prophecy, which will facilitate our understanding of the events that were revealed to John.
"Seventy weeks have been determined for your people and your holy city to finish transgression and to disappear sin and to cleanse iniquity and to bring eternal justice, and to seal apparitions and prophecy, and to anoint the Holy of Holies. Therefore, know and understand: From the time the word goes out that Jerusalem will be rebuilt until the anointed duke will be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks for the streets and walls to be built again, and that in a difficult time. And after those sixty-two weeks, the anointed will be executed and nothing will remain to him; the voivode's people will come and destroy the city and the sanctuary; and its end will be with a flood, and certain desolation will be until the end of the war. And he will establish a covenant with many for a week, and in the middle of the week he will abolish the sacrifice and the offering; and with hateful wings, which make desolation, until the appointed end, it will be poured out on the desolation"
Daniel 9:24-27
Danilo was a prophet, a Jew, and he was a slave in Babylon with the rest of the people, but in addition to the torments he had in slavery, he was also interested in the fate of his people Israel and the holy city of Jerusalem. That's how Danilo read Jeremiah's prophecy about his people.
"And all that land will be desolation and wonder, and those nations will serve the king of Babylon for seventy years.
And when seventy years are completed, then I will visit the king of Babylon and that nation, says the Lord, for their iniquities, and the land of the Chaldeans, and I will turn it into an eternal desolation."
Jeremiah 25:11-12
and he saw that God had appointed Judah to be in captivity for seventy years and then he counted the time spent in Babylonian captivity and concluded that the end of this time is near. It is written:
,,. In the first year of Darius, the son of Ahasuerus of the tribe of Midian, who reigned over the kingdom of the Chaldeans,
In the first year of his reign, I, Danilo, understood from the books the number of years, which the Lord had told Jeremiah the prophet that would end with the ruins of Jerusalem, seventy years.
Daniel 9:1-3
And God sends an angel to the prophet Daniel with an announcement
"And while I was still speaking and praying and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and I fell down praying before the Lord my God for the holy mountain of my God. they flew quickly and touched me about the evening sacrifice. And he taught me and spoke with me and said: Danilo, now I came out to reason with you. At the beginning of your prayer, the word came out, and I came to tell you, because you are kind; therefore listen to the word, and understand the apparition. Seventy weeks are appointed for your people and for your holy city..."
Daniel 9:20-24
At the end of this quote, we see that it says "ordained to your people", which means that what God says (in this case, determined) no one can change. So this refers to Daniel's people and the holy city, which are the people of Israel and the city Jerusalem and this is not designated either for the Gentiles or for the Church of Christ.
,,Seventy weeks are determined for your people and your holy city" and in the new translation it says,,,Seventy weeks are determined for your people and your holy city"
Since this is about the Jews, let's see how they divided time. The Jews divided time into seven intervals, so they had a week of days (week of days).
"Work for six days, and finish all your work. And the seventh day is a rest for the Lord your God; then do no work, neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your livestock, nor the stranger who is within your gates."
Exod.20:9-10
The next thing they used was a week of years and they also called it Saturday years or a week (week).
"Six years sow your field, and six years cut your vineyard and gather the harvest. And let the seventh year be a sabbath for rest for the earth, the sabbath of the Lord; do not sow in your field or prune your vineyard."
Levit. 25:3-4
and in the end they had a week for seven years
"And count seven sevenths of years, seven times seven years, so that seven sevenths of your years will be forty-nine years"
Levit. 25:8
We saw how the Jews used time intervals, and now let's see what happened to Daniel
"Seventy weeks are determined for your people and your holy city..." God announces to Daniel that there are still seventy determined weeks to fulfill God's plan with Israel and Jerusalem and the promises that God made since Abraham.
This is certainly not about a week of days, because that would be four hundred and ninety days, but about seventy weeks of years, that is, about four hundred and ninety years.
The next thing Daniel needed to understand was the details that would be fulfilled in these seventy specific weeks and also what would be at the end when these seventy weeks were over.
We read in Daniel:
"Seventy weeks have been determined for your people and your holy city to finish transgression and to disappear sin and to cleanse iniquity and to bring eternal justice, and to seal apparitions and prophecy, and to anoint the Holy of Holies"
"Seventy weeks have been determined for your people and your holy city to end the transgression"
We have seen that the prophecy refers to Israel, and the greatest transgression that Israel has ever committed is the rejection of the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. This transgression was committed by the Israelites when the "sixty-nine weeks" were over, and in the prophecy we read about it: "he will be executed" anointed "
The anointed one is Messiah in Jewish and Christ in Greek. From this transgression, the Jews who believe in Christ will be saved in the last week, which lasts seven years, and that is seven years of great tribulation. According to the prophecy, during the great tribulation, there will be a great awakening and then a hundred forty-four thousand Jewish missionaries to preach the word of God (revelation of the seventh chapter). In Romans we read about it:
"And thus will all Israel be saved, as it is written: A Deliverer will come from Zion and turn away wickedness from Jacob"
Rom. 11:26
and only at the end of the great tribulation will the rest be converted and only when Christ comes will the transgression of Israel be completed and
other details that Danilo should have understood, he writes, "and for the sin to disappear"
Only when Israel receives Christ through faith in Christ will their sins be cleansed, and we can read about that:
"And this is my promise to them when I take away their sins."
Rom. 11:27
and the third detail is "and to cleanse iniquity" and that will happen when Christ comes and we read about it in the Gospel according to Matthew:
"The Son of Man will send his angels, and will gather out of his kingdom all those who stumble and do lawlessness"
Matt. 13:41
And when these negative things are removed in the text, we also read positive changes and relationships that will be established.
"and to bring eternal justice," this is what the whole world longs for, but that will not happen until Christ comes. And when Christ comes, the problem of transgression, sin, infidelity, iniquity and scandal will be solved, and only then will it be established eternal justice in Christ's kingdom. In Luke's Gospel, it is written that God announced the following to Mary;
,,. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; And he will reign in the house of Jacob forever, and there will be no end to his kingdom."
Luke 1:32-33
"and to seal the apparition and the prophecy," we know from the Bible that many visions and prophecies are related to Israel and many of these prophecies have been fulfilled, but not all of them and will finally be fulfilled when Christ comes because it says,, and to be sealed " means it will be fully fulfilled and there will be no more need for prophets and prophecies.
And the last detail that Daniel should have understood in a positive context is: "to help the Holy of Holies". to the saints" (it is written about this in the book of the prophet Ezekiel from chapters 40 to 48) and when the seventy weeks are over and Christ comes to earth, there will be a consecration of this temple (anointing means consecration)
"Seventy weeks are determined for your people and your holy city" we could write this differently, "four hundred and ninety years are determined for your people and your holy city" and from when these four hundred and ninety years are counted, it says:
"Therefore know and understand: From the time the word goes out that Jerusalem will be rebuilt until the anointed duke will be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks for the streets and walls to be built again, and that in a difficult time." but a better and clearer translation is in the edition Realities, Zagreb:
"Know and understand: From the time when the word "Let them return and let them rebuild Jerusalem" goes out until the Prince of the Anointed: seven weeks, and then sixty-two weeks, and the square and the moat will be built again, and that in a difficult time ." and the English translation reads
"from the issuing of the command to rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed Duke, there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks: the streets will be built again, and the walls, and that in a difficult time."
according to this, this simplicity is divided into three parts: seven weeks, sixty-two weeks and one week, so a total of seventy.
The counting begins,, Since the word came out that Jerusalem is being built again "There are disagreements and various interpretations regarding the beginning of the counting, but what the Bible indicates is that the "decree on the building of Jerusalem" is counted from when Artaxerxes issued the command and permission to Nehemiah to builds the walls of Jerusalem. We read about it in the book of Nehemiah.
"And in the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, there was wine before him, and I took the wine and gave it to the king. And before I was not cheerful in front of him. And the king said to me: Why are you looking cheerful when you are not sick? It is nothing but sadness in the heart. And I was very scared. And I said to the king: May the king live forever! How could I not have a cheerful face, when the city where the graves of my fathers are laid waste and its gates burned with fire? And the king said to me: What do you want? Then I prayed to God in heaven, and I said to the king: If it pleases the king and if your servant is dear to you, send me to Judea to the city where the graves of my fathers are, so that I can build it. And the king said to me, and his wife was sitting next to him: How long will you need for the journey, and when will you return? And it pleased the king, and he let me go when I told him the time. Then I said to the king: If it pleases the king, let me be given a book on the princes across the river to accompany me until I come to Judea,
And a book on Asaph, the keeper of the king's forest, to give me wood for the logs for the door of the court next to the house of God and for the city wall and for the house I will enter. And the king gave me, because the good hand of my God was upon me.
And so I came with the princes across the river, and gave them the books of the emperor. And the king sent princes and horsemen with me. And when Sanavalat the Oronian and Tobias the servant of Ammonite heard this, they hated it very much that a man had come to take care of the children of Israel. Then I came to Jerusalem, and I stayed there for three days. So I got up at night. with a few people, and I told no one what my God had put in my heart to do in Jerusalem; and I have no horse with me except the one on which I am riding. And I went out at night to the gate of the valley, to the dragon's spring, and to the festering gate, and I looked at the walls of Jerusalem, how they were broken down and how the gates were burned with fire. From there I passed to the spring gate and to the imperial lake, and there was no place for yarn to slip under me. So I rode along the stream at night and looked around the wall, then I returned to the gate of the valley, and so I came back."
Nehemiah 2:1-15
and in the sixth chapter we read:
"And so the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth day of the month of Elul in fifty-two days."
Nehemiah 6:15
and in the sixth chapter we read:
"And so the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth day of the month of Elul in fifty-two days."
Nehemiah 6:15
Artaxerxes gave this permission, which means that "Danilo's weeks" are counted from then.
The first part of this prophecy is "seven weeks" or forty-nine gidins, and during this time the Jews completed the construction of the Jerusalem wall, and the second part is "sixty-two weeks" and that is four hundred and thirty-four years, a total of four hundred and eighty-three year and after this, something should happen. This period in Jewish history is also called the "difficult time" because God did not appear from Malachi until John the Baptist, and in the time of John the Baptist, the Jews were under the occupation of the Romans,
"And after those sixty-two weeks, the Anointed One will be executed," so God foretold to Daniel the crucifixion of Christ on the cross in this way.
John the Baptist, the apostles and Christ spoke
"And they said: Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near"
Matt. 3:2
"From that time Jesus began to teach and say: Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
Matt. 4:17
"And Peter said to them: Repent, and be baptized each of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit;"
Acts 2:38
"Repent, therefore, and turn to be cleansed of your sins, so that the times of rest from the face of the Lord may come."
Acts 3:19
If the Jews had listened to what they were saying, another week would have passed and seven years would have passed and eternal justice would have come as it was prophesied.

2024.06.09 10:57 incyweb How I befriended books

🔗3-in-1 Jensen Turntable CD Radio, Cassette and AM/FM Stereo Speakers

https://preview.redd.it/pphomm08fi5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1afc143aeada563df1155e2069f55c651488a49
I recently got the Jensen 3-speed turntable CD radio, cassette, and AM/FM set and I can't express how happy I am with my purchase. I remember using my dad's old turntable and the nostalgia it brings back is just priceless. This one is a modern twist to the classic turntable - it plays not only vinyl records but also CDs and cassettes. Plus, it has an AM/FM tuner so I can listen to my favorite radio stations.
What I love about this product is that it is versatile. The turntable allows me to play 3-speed records, which gives me a variety of options. The CD player accepts both regular and rewriteable discs, while the cassette deck, although it looks a bit fragile, still works perfectly fine. This device also comes with features such as repeat of songs and tracks, skip/search forward and backward and random play.
The blue back-lit LCD display and programmable memory adds a nice touch to the whole setup. It's super user-friendly; even my grandma could figure it out! And let's not forget about the stereo headphone jack, perfect for those late-night listening sessions without disturbing anyone.
However, one downside I noticed is that the build quality isn't top-notch. It feels a bit plasticky and might not hold up over time. Another thing is that the speakers lack bass. But hey, considering how affordable this product is, these are minor quibbles.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a nostalgic music player that combines old school charm with modern convenience, the Jensen 3-speed turntable CD radio, cassette, and AM/FM set is definitely worth checking out. Just remember to handle it with care due to its somewhat delicate build.

🔗Modern Vinyl Record Player Stand with Bluetooth

https://preview.redd.it/h9zxx2g8fi5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4169c22400cc1794b618a203ddc4b335394d048
First of all, let me tell you about my experience with this Victrola Liberty Bluetooth Record Player. The moment I set my eyes on it, I was thrilled. Its retro design, available in on-trend colors, instantly captured my fascination. The built-in features like the CD player, FM radio, and USB player made it a versatile piece of entertainment. Plus, the ability to record from vinyl directly to USB without using a computer was intriguing.
The unit stands tall with four long legs and four short rubber feet. This unique design not only adds to its charm but also provides two different decorative options. The dimensions are just right - measuring 17.10 x 15.70 x 11-in and weighing 14.68 lbs. It's easy to move around and fits perfectly into any space.
While the sound quality is commendable, filling the room with a rich, full tone, the construction could use some improvement. The turntable feels a bit flimsy, especially the auto-stop button that sometimes fails to work. Also, there's a little wobbling when a record is on, but not enough to cause any skipping.
In terms of usability, setting up this record player is a breeze. Even someone who's new to vinyl could get it up and running in no time. The included instructions are concise and clear.
However, I did encounter a few issues with the build. First, it seems like there hasn't been much care about handling during shipping. The packaging was good, but it's not enough to prevent some minor damages. Second, I wish the legs could be secured better to ensure they don't pop out from under the record player.
Overall, despite its drawbacks, I believe the Victrola Liberty Bluetooth Record Player does offer a blend of vintage charm and modern convenience. It performs well, especially for its price point, and it's a nice addition to any room's décor. If you're looking for a stylish and functional record player that won't break the bank, I'd recommend giving this one a try.

🔗Audio Technica Fully Automatic Vinyl Record Turntable

https://preview.redd.it/utr0veq8fi5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=343a04abd846c6464653c12782f155540a9996b5
Discover the joy of vinyl with the Audio Technica AT-LP60X-GM automatic turntable. I've been using this product for a while now and it's been a game-changer. The fully automatic belt-drive operation with two speeds, 33-1/3 and 45 RPM, ensures smooth playback of your favorite vinyl records.
One of the standout features of this turntable is its anti-resonance, die-cast aluminum platter. This not only adds to the aesthetics but also significantly reduces vibrations and noise during playback, enhancing the overall listening experience. The redesigned tonearm base and headshell have also made a noticeable difference in improved tracking and reduced resonance.
The integral Dual Magnet phono cartridge with a replaceable diamond stylus (ATN3600L) provides rich audio quality, promising hours of listening pleasure. The AC adapter manages AC/DC conversion outside of the chassis, effectively reducing noise in the signal chain.
What I particularly love about this turntable is its portability and compact design. It's easy to move around and fits seamlessly into any room setting. However, the hinged detachable dust cover could be a bit sturdier to better protect my vinyl records.
In terms of performance, this turntable performs exceptionally well, especially given its attractive price point. While it may not impress the audiophiles, it's a perfect introductory turntable for vinyl enthusiasts or anyone looking to explore the world of vinyl.
So, if you're in search of a reliable, easy-to-use turntable that won't break the bank, I highly recommend the Audio Technica AT-LP60X-GM automatic turntable. You won't be disappointed!

🔗Pro-Ject's Dark Side of The Moon Special Edition Turntable

https://preview.redd.it/u019e779fi5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7141426e947c899face9338798a255c0f559ad01
I've been using Pro-Ject's The Dark Side of The Moon Special Edition Turntable for a couple of months now, and I must say it's truly an audiophile's dream. The first thing that caught my attention was its striking design, which pays homage to Pink Floyd's iconic album cover. That, combined with the high-quality materials, makes it a standout piece in any home.
The sound quality is simply phenomenal. The flat silicon belt connecting to the AC motor ensures stable speeds, while the low-resonance tonearm in black aluminum and acrylic creates a captivating visual appeal. I love how the included Pick it PRO Special Edition delivers the rich sound expected from a Dark Side Of The Moon turntable, which is enhanced by the dimmable LED rainbow backlight.
However, there have been some hiccups along the way. One issue was the subpar power supply provided, which caused a buzzing noise in the speakers. I had to purchase an additional alim with a terrestrial to resolve this problem, adding extra expense to an already hefty price tag.
Another minor inconvenience was the non-included prism element from the video promotional material, an optional accessory that costs another 100€. It wasn't mentioned in the initial purchase, which caught me off guard.
Additionally, the support for the arm and the RGB backlight needed to be hand-tightened due to their lack of stability, but this wasn't a major setback.
In summary, if you're a music enthusiast who's ready to delve into the world of vinyl, Pro-Ject's The Dark Side of The Moon Special Edition Turntable may just be the perfect addition to your collection. Its exceptional sound quality and striking design make it worthy of a high-end turntable. Just be prepared for a few extra expenses along the way.

🔗Victrola Retro 3-Speed Record Player

I recently got my hands on the Victrola 3-in-1 Bluetooth Record Player with Built-in Speakers, and it's been quite a nostalgic journey for me. This record player is a perfect blend of old-school charm and modern convenience. The three-speed turntable (33 1/3, 45, 78 RPM) plays all my favorite vinyls, transporting me back to the days when music was a tangible experience.
One feature that really stands out is the ability to record your favorite music directly to a USB, no computer needed. It's like having a personalized mixtape from the past. Plus, its Bluetooth compatibility lets me stream music wirelessly from my smart device, making it versatile for both old and new tunes.
However, there are some downsides too. The build quality feels a bit flimsy, and the tone arm can be quite slow to lower, which might annoy some users. Additionally, the sound quality isn't top-notch compared to higher-end models, but considering the price point, it's quite reasonable.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a budget-friendly record player with a touch of vintage charm, the Victrola 3-in-1 Bluetooth Record Player might be worth considering. But if you demand impeccable sound and robust build quality, you might want to explore other options.

🔗Crosley Cruiser Plus Bluetooth Suitcase Turntable in Tourmaline

https://preview.redd.it/e9f5grw9fi5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=23f6d736b546410a2749d368ed0040f458a0baae
Once a vinyl enthusiast, always a vinyl enthusiast. That's my motto ever since I got my hands on the Crosley Cruiser Plus Turntable - Tourmaline. It just blends old school music with modern technology seamlessly. When I first unboxed it, I was instantly charmed by its charming suitcase-style shell. It gave off a vintage vibe that I absolutely loved. Plus, the built-in Bluetooth receiver and stereo speakers took the convenience factor up a notch.
Navigating through the Turntable is a breeze. The adjustable pitch control and 3-speed feature (33 1/3, 45 & 78 RPM) gave me the flexibility to play any vinyl record I wanted. And don't even get me started on the Bluetooth in/out capability. It was like having a digital music player and a vinyl record player all wrapped into one device.
One day, I had the brilliant idea of connecting my phone to the turntable and playing some of my favorite vinyl-to-digital remastered tracks. The sound quality was phenomenal, a perfect blend of digital clarity and analog warmth. Now, if only it didn't skip randomly sometimes. . .
Despite the occasional skip, the Crosley Cruiser Plus Turntable has been a reliable and enjoyable companion on my vinyl adventure. It's portable, easy to use, and best of all, it beautifully blends the charm of old school vinyl with the convenience of modern technology.

🔗Bluetooth Vinyl Turntable with 40W Stereo Speakers

https://preview.redd.it/xqruzcdafi5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8d18fc2e32f55bcad366bc7d9f0aac1652d078f9
As a music enthusiast, I've had my fair share of turntables, but the Arkrocket Cassini has truly stood out. Upon receiving it, I was blown away by its stunning walnut finish and sleek design. The ease of setup was impressive, making it truly user-friendly. However, what truly captured my attention was the sound quality this turntable delivers.
It uses a moving magnet cartridge system, which offers a stable playback, allowing my vinyls to be enjoyed in all their glory. This turntable also supports Bluetooth, giving me the flexibility to connect with wireless speakers or headphones when I want. The included 40Watt bookshelf speakers are a cherry on top, providing clear and powerful sound.
The only con I noticed was that the turntable is a bit on the heavier side, making it a little less portable than some other options. However, this is a minor inconvenience for the incredible listening experience it provides. Overall, I highly recommend the Arkrocket Cassini for anyone looking to enhance their vinyl listening experience.

🔗Sony Automatic Bluetooth Record Player

https://preview.redd.it/f5aafryafi5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e44dd63e1684ff9a82b4e8174771edb78523630
I recently got my hands on the Sony PS-LX310BT, a sleek and functional record player that's revolutionizing the vinyl listening experience. The first thing that impressed me was its easy setup. Unlike some turntables that can be a real pain to assemble, this one was up and running in no time.
One of the standout features of this record player is its Bluetooth connectivity. This allows me to play my vinyl collection on my wireless speakers, giving me more freedom and flexibility when listening to music. Plus, the auto-start function means I can simply press a button and let the music flow, without having to manually lower the tonearm onto the record.
Despite its minimalist design, the PS-LX310BT is built to last. Its sturdy construction and smooth operation make it a reliable choice for vinyl lovers, and its attractive appearance makes it a welcome addition to any room.
However, I did run into a few issues. For instance, the player's tonearm wasn't always able to pick up the record grooves, leading to some skipping and stuttering. Additionally, the player's built-in pre-amplifier wasn't as powerful as I'd like, making it difficult to get the full range of sound out of my vinyl.
Overall, I'm quite happy with my purchase. The Sony PS-LX310BT is a solid record player that combines modern technology with the classic sound of vinyl. While it's not perfect, it's definitely worth considering if you're in the market for a new turntable.

🔗Fuse Vertical Vinyl Record Player with Bluetooth and FM Radio

I recently purchased the Fuse Vert Vertical Vinyl Record Player that comes with Bluetooth and FM radio, and boy, am I impressed! The sleek vertical design is perfect for my modern apartment, and it's a great conversation starter when friends come over.
One of the standout features of this record player is its ability to play 33-1/3, 45, & 78 vinyl records. The ceramic cartridge with a diamond needle delivers a rich mid-end and beautiful upper-range sound. The built-in FM radio, alarm clock, and Bluetooth connectivity make it a versatile device that can be used in different scenarios, like playing MP3s and tuning in to my favorite radio stations.
As for the cons, I did face some minor issues with the setup process. The instructions could have been more detailed, but with a little patience, I managed to get it up and running. Additionally, the internal speakers aren't as powerful as I would like, so if you're looking for premium sound quality, you might need to connect it to an external speaker system.
Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with the Fuse Vert Vertical Vinyl Record Player. Its unique design, combined with its versatile features, has made it a valuable addition to my home entertainment setup. If you're in the market for a stylish and functional record player, I highly recommend giving this one a try.

I recently got my hands on the Victrola Stream Onyx, a modern turntable that seamlessly integrates with my Sonos system at home. This sleek black beauty was easy to set up - all it took was a quick scan of the provided QR code, and I was off to the races with the intuitive Victrola app.
The first thing that stood out for me was the sturdy, high-quality build of the turntable. It looks like a piece of art in my living room, and the matte black finish pairs perfectly with the rest of my Sonos setup. But let's talk sound quality; it's simply fantastic. Listening to vinyl through my Sonos system is an experience I don't want to miss now, whether it's playing old classics or exploring new indie gems.
One standout feature I absolutely love is the turntable's automatic tone arm lift function. It makes switching tracks so much easier, and you never have to worry about leaving the needle on a record when you're done playing. The illuminated control knob is also a welcome touch, allowing me to control my entire Sonos system right from the turntable itself.
However, no product is perfect, and the Onyx does have its drawbacks. I occasionally experience some dropped connections with my Sonos setup, which can be frustrating if you're in the middle of playing a record.
All in all, the Victrola Stream Onyx has been an excellent addition to my vinyl collection and Sonos system. Its sleek design and superior sound quality make it worth the investment, and it's the perfect companion for vinyl enthusiasts who want to stream their favorite records throughout their home.

🔗Crosley Coda Modern Vinyl Record Player - Black

https://preview.redd.it/991f0h6cfi5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=15ca30ce13cea65ecf7ec545b1843c76aaade1dc
Using the Crosley Coda Shelf System has completely transformed my listening experience. Right from unboxing, its sleek black design made me think of a classic timeless piece. The process of setting it up was an absolute breeze, and in no time, I was spinning my first vinyl on its belt-driven 3-speed turntable, which flawlessly plays 33 1/3, 45, and 78 RPM records.
One thing that stood out for me was its Bluetooth receiver. Streaming my digital playlists straight to the included stereo speakers was a super convenient feature, making this system perfect for both analog and digital media. The built-in FM radio added to its versatility, enabling me to tune into my favorite local stations.
The manual tone arm with a pre-mounted moving magnetic cartridge and adjustable counterweight ensures a smooth and accurate vinyl playback. I also appreciated its compatibility with the NP-15 needle, which I found easy to replace and adjust for optimal sound quality.
Despite its compact size, the Crosley Coda Shelf System packs a powerful punch. The vintage-inspired design includes an aluminum platter and a clear dust cover, adding to its aesthetic appeal.
However, one little inconvenience I had was the packaging of the slipmat. It arrived folded, affecting the sound quality initially. But with a solution like ironing it flat, this issue was quickly resolved.
All in all, the Crosley Coda Shelf System has rekindled my love for vinyl music and its vintage charm. The combination of its fantastic sound quality, stylish design, and versatile functions make it an absolute must-have for music lovers.
My only minor gripe – the speakers are somewhat small, and although they provide clear sound, I wouldn't mind if they were just a tad louder. However, this doesn't deter from the overall excellence of the product. So, if you're in the market for a high-quality, stylish, and versatile turntable system, look no further than the Crosley Coda Shelf System. You won't regret it!

Buyer's Guide

Floating record players offer a unique and stylish way to enjoy your vinyl collection. These innovative devices use magnetic levitation technology to create the illusion of a floating vinyl record as it spins. This not only adds a touch of futuristic flair to your home audio setup, but it also ensures smooth, quiet playback. If you're in the market for a floating record player, there are several factors to consider to ensure you choose the best option for your needs.

Features to Look for in Floating Record Players

  • Magnetic Levitation: The core feature of a floating record player is the use of magnetic levitation to create the appearance of the vinyl record floating in the air. This not only looks stunning but also minimizes vibrations and noise for improved audio quality.
  • Audiophile-grade Components: For the best sound performance, look for floating record players that use high-quality components like precision tonearms, durable cartridges, and premium speakers or amplifiers.
  • Compatibility: Make sure the floating record player you choose is compatible with a wide range of vinyl record sizes, including 7", 10", and 12" records. Some models may also support 45 RPM records for maximum versatility.

Important Considerations

  • Budget: Floating record players come in a wide price range, with some models costing several thousand dollars. Determine your budget beforehand and prioritize features and performance over price.

However, it is important to note that not all floating record players may achieve significant improvements in sound quality compared to traditional record players.

What are some popular floating record players on the market?

Some popular and well-regarded floating record players include the [U-Turn Orbit Special Edition](https: //www. gofloating. com/), the [Fluance RT85](https: //www. vinylrecordplayers. org/best-floating-record-player), and the [Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO](https: //www. pro-ject. com/en/products/turntables/turntable-the-box-essential-iii/).

How do I maintain a floating record player?

Floating record players should be maintained like any other high-quality record player. Ensure that belts are replaced periodically, the stylus is cleaned and replaced when necessary, and the playing surface is kept free of dust. Additionally, always handle records with care, and ensure that your floating record player is placed on a stable and level surface to prevent vibrations.

Do floating record players require a specific type of vinyl record?

No, floating record players are designed to play standard vinyl records. However, it is advisable to use high-quality vinyl records to ensure optimal sound performance and preserve the longevity of the record player.

How do I set up a floating record player?

Setting up a floating record player is similar to setting up a traditional record player. Connect the player to your amplifier or preamplifier, place the vinyl record on the platter, and gently lower the stylus onto the record. Ensure that the floating mechanism functions properly and that the record is not touching the platter or other surfaces.

What is the difference between manual and automatic operation in floating record players?

Manual operation in a floating record player requires the user to manually lift and lower the stylus onto the vinyl record. Automatic operation, on the other hand, utilizes a motorized mechanism to lift and lower the stylus automatically. Both types of operation can provide satisfying performance, and the choice between them ultimately comes down to personal preference.

How long do floating record players typically last?

The longevity of a floating record player depends on a number of factors, such as proper maintenance, usage frequency, and the quality of the components used in the player. Well-maintained floating record players can last for many years, but it is crucial to replace belts and styli as needed to keep the player in optimal condition.

How can I prevent my floating record player from shaking during use?

To prevent shaking in a floating record player, ensure that the player is placed on a stable and level surface and minimize external sources of vibration. For example, avoid placing the player near heavy traffic or a washer and dryer, and consider using a record weight to keep the vinyl record flat on the platter.

2024.06.09 10:51 Flat-Dingo4606 my parents (and extended family) have been abusive towards me both physically and emotionally my whole life. i dont know what to do anymore.

i (18y) have been abused by my parents and grandparents for as long as i can remember. my first memory is my grandad approaching me as i was sat down on a potty (one of those weird plastic toilets toddlers have) and picking my up by my shoulders. he screams something at me before he puts me down and slaps me across the face. i was about 3 years old. i feel the best way to talk about this lifetime of abuse is to tell it in chronological order from the best of my ability (my memory surrounding certrain things is hazy as for a while i tried to forget as much of this as i could)
firstly i think its important to give some information about my mum and dad. my dad was 17 when i was born and i believe my mum was 21. he lied to her about his age. my dad is addicted to weed and i know for a time he was addicted to coke too. i remember he would often get arrested a lot. he would also say he was leaving us but return hours later very clearly off his face on coke and whatever else. my mum is a very manipulative and emotionally abusive woman. when i was 7, i witnessed her kiss another man in front of me. we later on found out that they had been seeing each other for ages behind my dads back. i havent been able to forgive her for that. it's also important to note i have many siblings (i wont say how many as i have already given a lot of telling information and do not want my family to know ive typed and posted this, many of my family members use reddit).
from the age of 5, i remember getting beatings almost daily from my mum or dad. these would be for the most minor of things such as forgetting to flush the toilet or turning the tv up a little bit too loud. these weren't little taps either, i got fully manhandled and punched. often i remember my dad pinning my down so my back is facing upwards, he would hold my hands around my back while my mum would hit me on my ass until it was red raw. no one can justify that. sometimes it wasn't always my parents though. sometimes they would call my grandad. for such a long time the word grandad evoked so much fear in me. when i was told he was coming over i would run to my room, but on as many layers of clothes as i could and hid under my blanket. when he arrived, he would berate me about how much of a disgusting little cunt i was before he would punch me in my face and all over my body. often i would have bruises as a kid, i dont know how teachers at school didn't pick up on it. i remember one Christmas eve my xbox account wasn't working (cant remember why) and this understandably upset me, i was 8 after all. my dad called my grandad over, and i did the same routine. clothes on, over the covers and pray he doesn't hit me too hard this time. this time was different though. he came into my room and pulled me out of my bed by my arm and threw me down the stairs. i ran into the living room where my nana was. she slapped me in my face so hard i fell to the ground. i tried to run out of the room only for my grandad to push me back into it. i was made to sit on the couch while i got called the most horrific names. i was so scared i wet myself and couldn't stop shaking. i was 8 years old.
not long after Christmas, it was my birthday. i got disney infinity and a bunch of the little figures to go with it. for months this was my hyper fixation, i would play it daily and completed everyone one of the story set things i had. one day my grandad came over, and he started his usual borage of insults. he turns to my organized disney infinity figures resting upon my xbox 360 (jesus im old) and kicks them all over just avoiding the xbox. he then turns around and leaves. he broke so many of the figures, i cried for hours and hours in my room alone. no one came to check on me. the figures being broken hurt so much more than the beatings i was now used to.
from this point onwards, things are a little fuzzy. i move house a few times and am now in secondary school. im 13 years old, and questioning my sexuality heavily. i get into fights both inside and outside of school and have started smoking cigarettes. the physically abuse had stopped, but the emotional abuse had got worse. at the time i was a very fat kid. i would eat to feel better. my dad would often call me fat and insult me for everything i did. every song i played, booked i read and film i watched. he would rip into me daily for no reason at all. he would often say if i wasn't his kid and he saw me when he was a kid he'd beat the fuck out of me. when i was 15, life started to get a bit better. i found a group of friends that liked me, i was no longer questioning my sexuality and was fully comfortable saying i was pan-sexual. i also started to smoke weed with my best friend, which has given us some of the best memories. in the summer of that year, we got evicted from our home and had to move into an emergency house. this was hell, and one of the worst times of my life. i slept on the couch and my pc was in the kitchen where often my little siblings would throw food on it and try to tip if over. my parents did nothing to stop this. the insults still followed and i was made to feel so insignificant and small. the most i slept in the 4 months we lived there was 5 hours a night. one time my dad was berating me and he got in my face because i said something back to him. he pinned me against the wall by my t shirt. for the first time, i felt all of the rage i had kept bottled up since i was a kid overflow and i punched him square in the face. he fell back and looked at me in shock. my mum rushed to his defense and screamed at me to leave. i left for a few hours until my dad called me and told me to come home. we haven't spoken of it since.
now i am 18. i am in the last few days of college then im off to university. the emotional abuse still continues and there are so many things that im leaving out for the sake of length. i could genuinely write a novella about all of this shit. i am not sure what to do moving forward. i really want to block them out and live my life peacefully and free. however, whenever i think about doing this i feel really guilty. luckily i have an amazing and supportive partner who is helping me make sense of all of this. the scars still feel fresh. for anyone who is in a similar situation but has years to wait before they can leave, keep your head up. right now i know it is hell and it seems like there is no end. my best advice is find something you love and cling onto it, passion is found in the darkest of place. in my case, it was films. you are not crazy or being sensitive, it is abuse.
any question feel free to ask, thank you for listening.
EDIT: sorry if some of this makes no sense im dyslexic haha

2024.06.09 10:50 mazensala I am too young to accept that

So me 16M. In my childhood, my dad used to travel a lot. When I was born, he always traveled all over the world, came for a vacation for less than a month, and then travels back. For this, every time my mom gave my dad a ride to the airport, I always watched the airplanes, and I was so impressed by the airport vibes and the airplane invention itself. When I was about 5 years old, I even searched on YouTube for planes and kept watching just planes flying without knowing how or anything. Days passed, and I forgot that aviation dream until 2023 (the year I turned 15). This year, I started to take that aviation dream back, and more seriously, I started reading books about planes and the manufacturing of planes and watching documentary shows about planes until I was sure I contained the most knowledge in aviation in someone my age and even more than old people. and to be a pilot i have to obtain 3 flying licenses and 2 certificates and for just 2 license are 50k usd, so we are talking to obtain my licenses and certificates i should have in a range of 100k usd and this is just the education money not included the house rent nor food or other needs and in my country there isnt any good flying academies so i have to travel to usa, south africa, or canada to start the program in their academies so that adds up to other +50k. And also, the percentage of me not landing a job in this field is more than 70% because airlines publish in the news every 5 to 9 years that they need a few new pilots. So if I took a bank loan for $150,000 and finished the 4-year flying program and didn't find a job as a pilot to repay, I would probably end up in jail. The even problem is that I am finishing high school in a year or two (I am igcse; I can finish high school by 2 years only or maybe 3 if I failed in any subjects), so I discussed with my parents what major I would be joining. We all ended up fighting because they want me to be an engineer, and thats not what I want, nor am I motivated to study hard for it, and being an employee sitting on a desk is boring (my dad just wants me to become an engineer like him). Instead, I want to be a pilot because I am so obsessed with this field and dont know what to do and my parents think that I want to be a pilot just because I am that silly boy that think that flying is just easy and get a lot of money , they dont know how many knowledge I consume in this field.

2024.06.09 10:33 ethidiumbrimide Helping my shitty boss being fired!

So I work for a company that you really have to try to get fired from. My boss and I had a great relationship until one event. He sent me and a coworker out on a road call. Prior to a very important union voting meeting, which he knew about aslo my coworker brought up at the job briefing. He gave us a go-ahead to go to the meeting before the road call.
Long story short, upper management found out about the one hour delay before we made it to the road call. I, being me, owed up to the going to the meeting during the investigation. My coworker and my former boss blamed everyone under the sun. Still got 30 demerits, you need 60 to get fired, my union rep said we would have got none if my coworker during his meeting would have just followed his advice and agree to owning up to his mistake but he went on a hour tirade and f-ed everything up.
Anyways, me and my coworker got f-ed... My former supervisor got delayed a literal month before getting promoted to assistant manager. Which he held over me unit he got fired. I never understood why he blamed me, I never thought him under the bus my coworker did, and he (supervisor) threw me under the bus during the investigation. My coworker even admitted to him later on that I took full responsibility for the delay, and he threw the supervisor under the bus. But he didn't care. Apparently, I was the reason he took the one month delay on getting a promotion.
He targeted me for everything, but thanks to my reddit reading, I started recording everything. My companies coveralls have a great front pocket that lets a cell phone sit perfectly for recording. I recorded a job briefing that he called everyone racists (he's mMiddle Eastern) for over a rumor that he hired his wife's cousin company over the companies listed contactors. Which was true, and he got demoted for!
I hadn't submitted the video. He got demoted on his own accord for the beach of ethics. As a supervisor harassed me all the time, he gave me the shittiest of jobs, followed me everywhere, wrote me up for everything and anything. I noted everything, recorded what I could, and submitted it to my union rep, which I found out afterward was one of his best friends. So, the targeting and write-ups got worse.
Luckily on one particular day, I recorded a job briefing, another coworker filled a harassment claim against him, it was that coworker day off and this shitty supervisor decided during the job briefing went on a tirade about the harassment chaim and that he'll go out of his way to get this person fired or quit!
I held on to this video because I know my company needed more to get rid of him. I don't wait long. I found out again that was under investigation for breach of ethics and apparently fraud form when he was an assistant manager. One of my managers told me he'll probably keep his job and just get an unpaid suspension. At this point, I knew I had him, so I not only sent the videos, I also sent my harassment complaints to HR and the union president not including my union rep in the emails.
My supervisor took 6 months of stress leave before getting fired, got no charges put against him for fraud, and my company is weak as shit. My union rep got booted off the council... and filed a harassment claim because all the union members call him a rat and a management suckup, many posters and stickers float around our shop with his Pic on his knees in front of the former supervisomanager. Wish I had the photoshop skills for that, but it wasn't me. The company actually brought in the police to take fingerprints, but the new union rep stepped in and shut that down.
It's be a year since everything went down, found out it was another supervisors wife that made the posters and stickers, apparently she went to high school with the former union rep and hated him from then!

2024.06.09 10:21 borj5960 Good textbook for someone wanting to understand home wiring (USA)?

I'm not planning to do DIY electrical work (beyond basic stuff like changing an outlet..) I'm just genuinely curious about understanding wiring in the home, and want some reading material as a hobby.
A lot of books I look up are purely the physics of electricity. I understand the basics of electricity from a physics point of view. I more want to look at an outlet and understand what's on the other side and why. How wiring comes into the house, basic safety stuff, etc. (Though I don't mind a refresher on physics. I'm just not as interested in that.)
A couple questions:
  1. Can you even learn this stuff through a book? Or is the sort of thing where nothing subs for experience?
  2. I realize the national electric code changes. But how quickly? Reason I ask - I found a book that gets republished every few years for updates with the national electric code. But the new versions are crazy expensive. If I got a version that was say 10 years old, how out of date would it be? What about one that's 2 or 3 years old?
  3. Can you even separate "learning about home wiring" from "physics of electricity"? (Maybe I'm misunderstanding). I get you'd need to know the basics, just not sure if every little thing will be intertwined with physics (i just don't like physics that much.)
I saw a few books - does anyone have experience with them?
Electrical Wiring Residential - Ray Mullin (there's lots of versions of it, I was thinking of a used older edition)
Shaum's outline of Basic Electricity (primer on the physics)
If anyone here went to a trade school, and there was a textbook you used that you really liked (well written, lots of photographs, etc.), I'd be very interested to learn what it was.

2024.06.09 10:19 completely_plotless AITA for for cutting off my best friend for choosing my ex

for context i (F19) and my now ex boyfriend (M20) broke up about 8 months ago. my ex, let’s call him tony, broke up with me very abruptly after a 2 year relationship due to commitment issues and feeling the need to be more independent and kicked me out of his house without much more of an explanation. my best friend (F20), we’ll call her bella, and i have been friends since middle school and she’s only known tony since he and i started dating. We hung out the three of us on multiple occasions but as far as i’m aware they never hung out just the two of them. When the breakup happened, she didn’t want to choose sides and stayed friends with the both of us.. although she and i have not seen each other in at least 4 months and it seems every few days there’s a new story on social media of them hanging out. they have even gone on multiple weekend trips together which i find rather odd and i’ve started to wonder if it’s become more than just friendship. But she has denied this when asked. i slowly have stopped speaking to her although i have not confronted the situation, and feel like maybe i’m overreacting and reading into things… AITA?
