2024.05.07 16:45 SuggestionStraight12 I need help!

I’m a female(21)in my final year of college, I’m studying Communication and media studies(Mass Communication) and I need your help. I feel like I’m wasting my life and time, apart from going to school which I’d soon be done with in like three months time, I don’t have anything doing.
I’m scared of being stranded and left behind. I’m so scared of being a failure, my siblings are doing well but me and they’ve tormented me with this. I just need a breakthrough right now.
I need internship opportunities, I can write, I have a good voice( a lot of people have told me this), I can also do content creation, really anything that would make me be active and earn me small money on the side. I’ve tried breaking into tech but it looks like it’s not for me. Please I need a job, internship where I can learn and grow and all…. It’d be so nice to get one before I finish school, please in any way you can be of help please do.
Note: I’m really not particular about the money, I just want to improve, learn and grow but making money on the side would do no harm, thanks.

2024.05.07 16:35 bunnybean18 Unsure if it's too late to save our marriage

I (24f) an experiencing walk away wife syndrome. My husband (29m) isn't a bad guy, he's kind and loving and compassionate. We've been married 3 years, together for 5. The past two years though, I've consistently been communicating to him that I was feeling rejected/taken for granted. He would never really want to spend time with me, rarely wanted to be intimate, rarely give compliments that I didn't have to prompt, would have to ask and remind him to help with chores, the like. I would call him on the phone and he would be disinterested. Everything (watching a movie, going on a walk, letting me show him music I like, having sex) was always "maybe tomorrow hun". I would have serious sit down conversations about how it made me feel rejected by him, unattractive, how I felt taken for granted. I always made sure I wasn't accusatory or aggressive. Us vs. the problem mindset. He would change for about two weeks and it would go back to how it was. I just kept stuffing the hurt in a box. I was afraid to deal with it. For some context, when we got together I was pretty codependent. I came from a bad home life and he was so sweet and kind to me. Last year I started therapy. He was incredibly supportive. Within the past few months I've really reached a boom in my self-confidence and independence.
Back in January I had a talk with him that was more firm than in the past. I said I felt like I had to chase him and his love. That it wasn't fair to me, reiterated points I had made in the past, and told him I was done chasing. He said he would change.
So I stopped calling him on my breaks at work. Stopped texting him. Stopped initiating sex. I dont think he even noticed. Then I hit a depressive episode, and it was like the box spilled open. I started withdrawing completely. I didn't ask to hang out outside of dinner every night. I slept a little further away on our bed. I stopped talking as much. I was barley eating, staying over at work all the time to be away from home, going out with friends and family every chance I got. He would ask if I was okay, and for the first time in our relationship I didn't want to talk about my feelings. Once I stopped putting in the effort in our marriage, it was like there was no marriage. He didn't put any in. We were pretty much roommates.
Two weeks ago, we had the talk. I couldn't keep it in anymore. He asked if I still wanted to be married and I said I don't know. We have had several long talks, he's tried his best to understand in each one. We haven't insulted each other or been cruel. But the honestly we've shared with each other has been hard to deal with. He said that he knew he was brushing me off the past few years. But somewhere in his brain he "knew I wasn't going to leave him". That fucked me up to hear. I told him I wasn't sure I was in love with him anymore. That I can picture a life without him and it doesn't always make me sad. I know that hurt him.
He's done a lot of self-reflecting, and ever since the first talk he's been making an active effort to change. He's been loving and trying to spend time with me, doing chores without prompting, bringing me flowers. He said he wished he could go back in time and change sooner. He said he is deeply sorry and if he doesn't change for the long term that I should leave.
But what is confusing me, is that I don't really feel anything when he does this stuff. I'm getting what I've begged for the past two years, but how come he couldn't have done it before? I communicated over and over, but as soon as it truly affects him now he wants to change? I'm trying so hard not to be resentful, but he put out the fire of our marriage so how can I trust him to rekindle it? I've been putting in effort too, suggesting dates and being affectionate. Giving him positive feedback for his changes. We are going to couples counseling. But I just don't know if I'm still in love with him. Part of me still wants to leave. I don't want to blow up our lives, he's my best friend. I just don't know if I can fall back in love and maybe I'm better off leaving.
Tldr; After two years of emotional neglect, it took me wanting a divorce to make my husband finally realize he wants to change. Part of me wants to leave, part of me wants to stay. I'm struggling to feel in love with him. Is it too late?

2024.05.07 16:24 Voxyacomplaintforum Chandigarh District Commission Finds IDBI Responsible for Not Initiating Refund to Nominee of Bond Buyer

Recently the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Chandigarh bench found IDBI Bank was responsible for failing to refund the nominee of a deceased individual who had bought an IDBI Deep Discount Bond. The complainant's father had bought the bond, with a face value of Rs 2,00,000./-, for Rs. 5300/ and it was set to mature on 18th March 2021. Unfortunately, the complainant's father passed away before the maturity date, leaving the complainant entitled to receive the redemption amount. Still, when the complainant approached IDBI on the due date, they faced delays in receiving the amount. Despite several attempts to communicate with IDBI, the complainant didn't receive a satisfactory response. As a result, they filed a consumer complaint against IDBI with the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Chandigarh.
IDBI argued that it had exercised its call option right regarding the bond on 1st August 2000, as per the terms and conditions outlined in the offer document and on the bonds themselves. They claimed that individual bondholders were informed about the call option through postal correspondence and notices published in newspapers before the stipulated date. Copies of the call option notice dated 25th May 2020 and notices published in varied newspapers in 2000 were submitted as evidence. Also, IDBI stated that reminders about the call option were sent to the complainant in 2009 and 2013 at their last given address. At the time of the call option exercise, the redemption amount was Rs. 10,000/- for each bond against the original investment of Rs. 5300/-.
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission- Chandigarh, noted that the maturity period of the bonds extends for 25 years from the date of allotment, which in this case was 18th March 1996. It also mentioned the existence of an early redemption option allowing investors to redeem the discount bonds before the maturity period. also, a call option clause grants IDBI the authority to redeem the deep discount bonds on specific dates with corresponding amounts payable to the investors.
The Commission concluded that IDBI had indeed exercised the call option right on 1st August 2000, following the terms and conditions specified in the bond agreement. Information regarding the call option had been consistently published in leading newspapers since 2000. The Commission emphasized that it was the complainant's responsibility to insure the communication of their correct address to IDBI. thus, IDBI can not be held liable for any oversight on the part of the complainant.
Regarding the complainant's entitlement as per the call option right, the Commission held that it remained pending. Accordingly, it partially allowed the complaint to enable the refund. IDBI was directed to refund the amount of ₹ 10,000/- with interest and pay an additional amount of ₹ 5000/- to the complainant as compensation for internal torture and harassment endured, along with action charges.

2024.05.07 16:20 Itaydr Designing for a single purpose

Originally posted on https://productidentity.co/p/designing-for-a-single-purpose
If you’ve ever been to Amsterdam, you’ve probably visited, or at least heard about the famous cookie store that sells only one cookie. I mean, not a piece, but a single flavor.
I’m talking about Van Stapele Koekmakerij of course—where you can get one of the world's most delicious chocolate chip cookies. If not arriving at opening hour, it’s likely to find a long queue extending from the store’s doorstep through the street it resides. When I visited the city a few years ago, I watched the sensation myself: a nervous crowd awaited as the rumor of ‘out of stock’ cookies spreaded across the line.
The store, despite becoming a landmark for tourists, stands for an idea that seems to be forgotten in our culture: crafting for a single purpose.
In the tech scene where I’m coming from, and which you might too, this approach is often perceived as singular, and not in its positiveness. We’ve been taught to go big or go home—raise millions in funding, build a big company, hire more and more employees, and hope for the desired exit.
Anything less is considered a mind of a failure.
From a personal perspective I’ve seen this attitude in almost every branding session I ran with startup founders. Again and again, they struggled to distill their primary focus. Moreover, when discussing competitors, it often seemed their startup competed in every possible field.
In a way, that fear of committing reflects the human nature of FOMO—deliberately giving up on something(s) and experiencing the potential loss of other benefits.
This mindset has also seeped into our collective body of work, especially in software. A product, which often starts as a weird small creature, gradually evolves into a multi-arm octopus, which sadly became the norm for VCware.
And so we’ve been left with bloated, bigger, and… worse software.
The idea of maintaining a small scope in product has already appeared in my writing in various forms; in niche product design I explored the effect of growth on design; and in defense of Twitter, I wrote about the bloated era of incumbent culture. But in between there seems to be a different attitude that not many choose to embrace, which like in Van Stapele’s case, seeks a real purpose.

Going back to basics as a way to find purpose

In a tweet posted a few months ago, Jeff Sheldon described his renewed approach to photography after getting a new camera. It enlightened my eyes.
I’m not a professional photographer, and never been. But my beloved Canon 700D still serves me often while traveling. Besides learning about ISO and shutter speed settings, being familiar with the mechanics of a DSLR camera has also introduced me to the practice of shooting photos in RAW format, which means capturing photos at the highest quality level.
But the super heavy file format marks only the start of the process in modern photography. The rest belongs to the post-processing act: the daunting work of polishing, enhancing, and fixing images.
When I returned from vacation, I hoped to edit my captures. Then I noticed something weird. When comparing my photos to some stunning photos I saw online, it seemed like my camera output wasn’t as good as those shared photos. In doubt of my gear I then, again, noticed something I should have probably known: it wasn’t about the camera, but the editing.
I realized professional-made photos were overly edited, often detached from their original conditions. It appeared that what you see isn’t what you get.
I wondered, has photography become an art of photo manipulation?
To respectful photographers, this might appear like a false accusation. The time spent sitting in front of the photo editor is at the heart of many camera enthusiasts. After all, that’s why a camera is set to shoot in raw.
But this potential debate triggers a more profound question: what’s the purpose of all this thing, to find the perfect angle or color filter?
Despite being somewhat contradicting with modern photography philosophy, I find “going back to basics”, as Jeff described, to reflect the same spirit as of Van Stapele—a devotion to a very minded process. No editing. No over-complication. Working only in one mode, and for the sake of it.
At first glance, Van Stapele’s laser-focused outlook might seem detached from tech and other mass-production industries. But there’s a line that can be drawn between the Dutch cookie store to some other products which makes them all distinct:
Whilst not every product mentioned above is hard-core focused like Van Stapele, the pattern is clear: an intentional commitment to a single purpose—either as a life philosophy, by using specific materials, or a deliberate design. And it also feels more appreciable when succeeding that way.
Some might call out a gimmick, while others appreciate the care for deep focus, which both are understandable. Finding the perfect recipe for the perfect cookie, and then committing to selling only that can be novel or a trick in marketing—depends on who you ask. But as I will stretch out from now on, I choose novelty.
We started with very minimal and basic products, aimed to serve only one simple job. A car to get from point A to B, a telephone to communicate with others, and a watch to check the time (perhaps the last analog device to serve human beings). But then many of our mundane artifacts have become more of a Swiss knife rather than just being exceptional in one form. We’re now drowning in oceans of product suites, both in the digital and physical worlds.

The bloated culture

In software, this trajectory is no different. Furthermore, it’s on steroids.
Despite “Do one thing well” being common advice for people building products in tech, it fails to hold water in the long run. Temptations are far too many to build and launch new stuff. Here’s Dropbox, a famous example of software turned bloated, in the words of DHH of 37signals:
Over the years, Dropbox has tried a million different things to juice upsells, seat expansions, and other ways to move the needle. There’s been a plethora of collaboration features (when all the collab I ever need is those magic links to files I can send over any wire!) and more and more pushy prompts to, say, move pictures and videos straight from the camera into the cloud. Along with pleas not to store the files I have in the system on my local computers (presumably so the transfer costs they pay are less). It’s exhausting.
I just want to pay for the original premise: All my files synched between all my computers, with a backup in the sky. That’s a beautifully, simply solution to a surprisingly difficult problem. And Dropbox absolutely nailed it.
Finished software
Back in its heyday, Dropbox was simple. A classic piece of software. Its purpose was to allow people to store and share files on the cloud effortlessly—either from a computer or mobile device. It was straightforward. Even its homepage was simple. There were no bells and whistles. It was designed to serve… a single purpose.
But as with VCware, things have started to shift gears. Amid Google Drive's popularity, the “drop-to-the-box” identity started to blur as the product offering expanded.. and expanded. It seemed like Dropbox’s purpose became more generic and less focused.
Another resentment that ignited a storm in the design community occurred when the company announced a brand redesign a few years ago. In a way that act marked the shift in the company’s direction, bringing unclarity to its customers. The cynicism of Brand New's audience also made its review post one of the most popular that year.
The novel idea that was executed so well has followed the same growth patterns of the tech bubble—as I wrote in Niche product design:
As companies grow, they gradually move from a state of fan-only to a state of a product for everyone. During this transition, dramatic changes occur, as the drive to satisfy more audiences and increase revenue. But eventually, this shift harms the core of the product. It becomes scattered, and the brand turns into a gigantic octopus, leaving people questioning its purpose and values.
An email client, a note-taking tool, and a Photos-like app are only part of what Dropbox has been involved with over the years.
Today Dropbox is seemingly much more than a storage cloud service. It’s also a video reviewer (if there’s such a term at all), a Loom competitor, and a document e-sign tool. However, at its core, Dropbox is still a company selling terabytes on the cloud.
Yet Dropbox might be just a drop in the ocean. A symptom of a bloated culture in modern software. To better understand this bloat-mania, let’s look at one of its kingpins, and a company of which Dropbox is valued at 0.003% of its worth: Apple. And what’s a better example than one of its greatest products of all time, the iPhone?
Launched in 2007, the innovative touch-screen device had only essential features like phone calls, and text messaging among other luxuries like a camera, an internet browser, a weather, and a stock app. The peak of technology at the time.
In 2008, a year after the first iPhone release, Apple introduced the App Store, which was the catalyst for entering the smartphone era while unleashing a tidal wave of apps.
Fast forward to 2014, and the iPhone got an upgrade in the form of a multi-model release, with the launch of the iPhone 6 Plus. The trend expanded and Apple gradually added different shapes and names to the iPhone line: Plus, Pro, Pro Max, alongside other discontinued model names. This doctrine has been applied to many of Apple’s products—the iPad, Macbook, and Watch. Some got bigger, smaller, or faster. In a materialized world, I wouldn’t be surprised if the iPhone got bigger only to store more functions.
But perhaps the greatest archetype of Apple’s transition to bloated products was the iPod. The next-level MP3 (or 4?) essence was simple—to carry music on the road. Nothing more. But then Apple gave the iPod a life of its own, as it eventually became an iPhone replication, just without a SIM card.
The iPod (especially the non-touch model) is still dear to many Apple (non-)fansbois. The beloved product was designed entirely around the music experience. Before music streaming services took over the industry, people manually entered song metadata: the title, artist name, and of course—the holy album artwork. The hurdles of iTunes made this a daunting task, but iPod users found joy in this craft.
As a standalone product, disconnected from other functions, the iPod was a true single-purpose product.

In more recent times

What would happen if Van Stapele decided to add more flavors or open other branches? Probably nothing. Maybe its profits even increase. But the Valrhona chocolate-made cookie store icon will be losing its artisanal identity. Specialty and quality aren't determined by size.
In a more familiar case, we can look no further than the platform that hosts these very own words—Substack. Since the announcement of Notes, Substackers have shared concerns about the direction the platform is heading.
Substack’s original purpose, to some, was to highlight great writing while making writers a living. Now with the seeming transition for eyeballs and short-form content attention, Substack is being questioned whether modern social network dynamics are taking over it.
To close this social network loop—Twitter has been a good executer at designing for a single purpose until it wasn’t, largely by the decision of going for a longform direction alongside launching questionable features. For years Twitter sanctified the quirky 140-then-280-characters limit while establishing a new internet medium. Those recent announcements made by its new execs are ripping off its identity, slowly but surely. By adding more purposes to this platform design, Substack risks going down a similar path, jeopardizing its writer's soul.

Drinking beers and building businesses in Japan

If I were raised in Japan I may not understand what this turmoil is all about. The renowned business heritage in Japan is an oasis in the never-ending capitalistic desert:
Japan’s startup climate has often been criticized for being sluggish, perhaps because a culture that promotes business longevity also cultivates a fear of failure. Now, however, ‘startup’ and ‘atotsugi’ are words spoken in the same sentence, as today’s leaders finally feel permitted to apply entrepreneurial lessons to traditional companies to ensure their legacy continues. Why Japan is home to the world’s oldest businesses
Japan is located on the other side of the earth, and its business culture values seem too. In a Western society of hyper-everything, which characterizes the move-fast-and-break-things startup ethos, the far island culture is way more cautious. Instead of financial logic, which might seem irrational, the ‘shinise’ tradition cultivates sacred values such as continuous improvement, longevity, and care for quality. It’s an extremely long-term game.
In Japan, more than 52,000 companies are more than a century old. Why Japan is home to the world’s oldest businesses
Japan is probably the largest home for centuries-old businesses, in varied fields from sake producers, to hotels and construction companies. This fact is much attributed to how generations of Japanese aspire to keep businesses running in the family. But as in the words of Yusuke Tsuen, the current owner of Tsuen Tea, the key to sustaining a shinise is to focus only on one thing:
“We’ve focused on tea and haven’t expanded the business too much,” he says. “That’s why we’re surviving.” Why so many of the world’s oldest companies are in Japan, Bryan Lufkin
In The Price of Immortality, Rohit Krishnan concluded the same:
The conclusion of this little digression has been to find common grounds amongst the most long lived organisations, and turns out you need to be a particular type of company: Extreme dedication to doing one thing well
But the Japanese business heritage isn’t the last and only resort from bloat-ism. The next time you drink beer, think about this:
Weihenstephan is considered to be the oldest brewery in the world, founded in 1040, more than a thousand years ago. And we don’t need to travel this far back. Other European breweries like Tuborg (1873) and Heineken (1864) are over 150 years old.
Van Honsebrouck, the brewery that produces the famous Kasteel Rouge was founded in 1865 and is still owned by the same family.
The brewery is still owned and operated by the family, now the seventh generation of van Honsebrouck brewers in Ingelmunster. James Clay
Breweries have developed more tastes and flavors over the years, but they’ve been all operating for a single purpose for decades and hundreds of years: to craft beers.

What might come next?

A real shinise is rare in tech. Focusing on a single purpose often seems boring, a narrowed view, or a lack of ambition to some. But I find it invigorating. A long-lasting design can be timeless and unique.
Do we really want to carry our stress, depression, and fears everywhere we go? Don’t we want to feel disconnected from time to time? Then why the heck do we carry our mobile phones everywhere we go, even to entertain ourselves in the toilet? And not to mention the germs.
Would this all happen if we were using a cell phone that’s just designed to make phone calls? This is actually what the Light Phone founders realized a decade ago:
What does it do? Nothing. You put in a SIM card, press a few buttons, and make a call. There’s no browser. No games. No NFC. It has quick dial, which is nice, and it doubles as a flashlight. The Light Phone Is The Anti-Smartphone, John Biggs
I may get carried away from the main idea of this essay, but that’s in part why I think designing for a single purpose is so important. The purpose of many products and artifacts has gone lost. Beyond the seeming gimmick, building for a single purpose reflects an understanding of what a thing is meant to be, and serve.
We’ve reached a point where focusing seems like spinning one's wheels, instead of appreciating the deep care of it.
And perhaps going back to basics is inevitable. When I’m reading on my Kindle I don’t get bothered by WhatsApp messages, or get interrupted by an incoming call. I’m not being tempted to do something else. I’m just focused on the act of reading.
As Devon tweeted a few years back: “When using my cellphone, I tend to become a passive consumer of the internet.” This also resonates well with the idea of this whole long text but from a slightly different angle. Using a multi-purpose product increases my distraction level, as I consume more things in the background.
Using a product that was designed for a single purpose brings back joy. It removes all the unnecessities and emphasizes an experience essence in a calmer environment, and with a real purpose.
Unlike photography, what you see is what you get.

Deep Dive into Email Retrieval Challenges with Facebook Graph API

Retrieving user email addresses using the Facebook Graph API presents a unique set of challenges and considerations that developers must navigate. At the heart of these challenges is the need to balance user privacy with the practical requirements of modern web applications. Facebook's stringent privacy policies and the design of its Graph API reflect a commitment to protect users' data, requiring explicit permission from users to access their email addresses. This process involves understanding the permissions model of the Graph API, where the 'email' permission is crucial yet not automatically granted. Developers must design their applications in a way that makes the value of sharing an email address clear to users, often necessitating a thoughtful UI/UX design and clear communication about the benefits of granting these permissions.
Furthermore, the technical aspects of implementing the API call to retrieve email addresses involve a deep understanding of OAuth 2.0 protocols, handling API responses, and error management. The Graph API's versioning system also introduces an additional layer of complexity, as changes to the API can affect how permissions and data access are handled over time. Developers must stay informed about these updates to ensure their applications remain compliant and functional. Successfully navigating these hurdles requires a blend of technical proficiency, strategic planning, and a user-centric approach to application development, underscoring the multifaceted challenges of working with social media APIs in a privacy-conscious era.

Unraveling the Complexities of Email Address Retrieval via Facebook Graph API

Obtaining user email addresses through the Facebook Graph API is a nuanced process that intertwines with Facebook's privacy policies and the technicalities of API integration. Developers embarking on this journey must first grasp the concept of user permissions within the Facebook platform. The necessity for explicit user consent before accessing personal data underscores the importance of designing applications that prioritize user trust and transparency. This user-centric approach is pivotal in navigating the ethical considerations surrounding data access, ensuring that users feel secure in what information they are sharing and why it is necessary for the application's functionality.
On the technical side, integrating the Facebook Graph API to retrieve email addresses involves a sophisticated understanding of OAuth 2.0 authentication, managing access tokens, and parsing API responses. These technical requirements demand a thorough preparation and continuous learning, as Facebook regularly updates its API, potentially affecting how developers interact with user data. Adapting to these changes, understanding the implications of API versioning, and implementing robust error handling mechanisms are crucial for maintaining a seamless user experience. This exploration not only enhances the developer's skill set but also deepens the understanding of the evolving landscape of web development and data privacy.

Frequently Asked Questions on Email Retrieval with Facebook Graph API

  1. Question: Why doesn't the Facebook Graph API always return the user's email address?
  2. Answer: The API only returns an email address if the user has explicitly granted the 'email' permission during the authentication process and if their email is verified and visible in their account settings.
  3. Question: How can I request the 'email' permission from users?

2024.05.07 15:59 ThrowRALiesandLies She (33F) cheated on me (30M) but is the one that needs time away to heal?

Background: I (30M) she is (33F) both have graduate degree's, 2 dogs and a child. Together for 4 years, in the beginning it was like soulmates are real but now it just feels dead on both sides (post-cheating).
I (30M) caught her cheating (33F) which was maybe the worst part (dating apps, setting up dates (some for that same weekend) with multiple different men.) At first when I confronted her she denied it, and actually gaslit me for several hours about how I was dreaming and it couldn't have happened because she was positive she didn't even have the app downloaded. Eventually when she let me into her phone (An hour-ish of back and forth, mostly her yelling about how it isn't fair that I don't trust her (lol)) and we found the app filled with messages some from the previous day even. She finally comes clean and says it was all just for the attention that she was getting from men and that she never "physically" cheated, which I'm not sure I believe, just liked the attention she was getting.
Blinded by the love I have for her I took her back, several months ago now (Halloween-ish), I think in the moment I was just so concerned and caught up with not losing her I thought we could work through it. Since then I barely see her, we live together but she spends a full week or more straight at a friends house (female single friend, and I do know her, kind of the village party girl/drunk) going out to bars and having parties at her house leaving me to deal with our child and dogs alone. Sometimes she will pop in during the day and do laundry, say hi and then leave. For the record I pay all the bills, do all the housework and manage the kid and dogs by myself which isn't terribly difficult since I work from home but still, why are we together if I essentially live my life without her, and God knows what else she is doing while she is away for so long.
When I confronted her about this behavior she says she needs time and space from me to heal from HER cheating. Granted she in the past had spewed to her friends and family about what a fantastic husband I am, so what is there to heal from? I also told her that honestly the more nights she spends away the more resentment that is building in me, several times. Since that conversation she has spent even more time away because "I'm putting her on the spot and it's stressing her out." We might send 10-ish text messages back and forth throughout the day and that's mostly all the communication we have. And I am forbidden from talking to any of my friends or family about it because obviously, she would lose face. When I do see her, she is generally fairly cold towards me and everything I do seems to irritate or annoy her. I have tried to schedule time with her to sit her down and talk about it but she always leaves or never shows up when we are supposed to talk. Her phone is like Fort Knox, password changed and ALL notifications turned off so it will never light up or buzz regardless of who is texting/calling. She also says she doesn't like being at home because it is uncomfortable for her to be around me at the moment because I am still emotional and she can feel the resent pouring out of me.
I still kind of want to save the relationship but I also feel played out, taken advantage of and betrayed and I'm not sure how to proceed with someone that is so uninterested in even speaking on it, how do I save the relationship if I even decide to or should I just cut my loses?

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Discipline Focus (Ex) Bhaal can focus his training to take advantage of up to his disciplines’ fighting style. This focus manifests in the following ways:
Weapon Focus: Bhaal has the benefit of the Weapon Focus feat for weapons associated with the chosen discipline.
Insightful Strikes: Bhaal can add his Wisdom modifier as a bonus on damage rolls whenever he executes a strike from the Shadow Hand and Stone Dragon schools.
Defensive Stance: Bhaal gains a +2 bonus on saving throws whenever he adopts a stance from the Shadow Hand and Stone Dragon schools.
Bhaal also gains a +2 bonus on Martial Lore checks made regarding a maneuver in disciplines in which he has discipline focus.
Dead Bones (unique salient divine ability) Bhaal has honed his skills at torture to such a degree that he can turn his victims’ own bodies against them with a single strike, rending bone from flesh with but a thought.
Fifteen times per day, Bhaal can force up to 15 creatures to which he has dealt hit point damage to succeed at a Fortitude save (DC 77) or die as their bones are violently torn out of their bodies in a spray of jagged shards. All creatures within 15 feet must succeed at a Reflex save for half damage or be rent apart by the splinters, suffering 15d6 vile damage and 15d6 piercing damage. Creatures that die from the damage suffer the same fate as the original victims.
At will, Bhaal can animate these bone splinters into a halo of 3d10 blades that orbit a point of his choice (though usually his own body) and launch them as ranged touch attacks with a range of 150 feet. He can launch up to 3 blades per round as an iterative attack, and each blade is treated as one of his bone blades as a ranged weapon. Any creature that dies suffers the effect of Dead Bones as detailed above.
Alternatively, the Lord of Murder can turn the bone splinters into a barrier of magical grinding bone that functions as a blade barrier dealing 30d6 damage, half of which is vile damage. The barrier can be attacked and otherwise has all the properties of a wall of bones. Bhaal can make the barrier permanent if he desires, and creatures that die either from the damage or from the initial effect of Dead Bones cannot be raised or resurrected until the barrier is destroyed. (CL 65th).
Divinity Bhaal is an embodiment of ancient divine power. As such, reality is his to shape as he sees fit.
Alter Reality: Bhaal may alter reality within the bounds of his portfolio. This functions as a wish spell that requires no XP or material cost. The limits of this ability are fully described in Deities and Demigods. He can additionally alter his size from Fine to Colossal and may additionally alter up to 100 pounds of objects in the same manner.
Avatar: Bhaal can have up to ten avatars at any given time. The Lord of Murder prefers to manifest in urban settings as the Slayer, a male, humanoid corpse with a feral face and ivory skin inset with deep lacerations that flow with black ichor. In rural areas, he manifests as the Ravager, a giant of a man over 30 feet tall, with long, tough sinews, a flowing beard and mane of hair, eyes that glow with the flames of Gehenna, a face twisted in a grimace of supernatural hatred, and two 7-foot-long curved horns protruding from his forehead.
Divine Blast: Bhaal can create a ray of divine power that extends for up to 15 miles, dealing up to 31d12 points of damage, as a ranged touch attack with no saving throw. Bhaal can unleash a divine blast 19 times per day, and alter the visual, auditory and sensation-based qualities of his divine blast as he desires. Bhaal’s divine blasts generally take the form of blasts of bloody fire carrying the whiff of brimstone.
Divine Shield: As a free action 23 times per day, Bhaal can create a shield that lasts 10 minutes and stops 150 points of damage from attacks. Once the shield stops that much damage, it collapses. Any damage Bhaal is naturally immune to does not count towards the shield’s limits.
Double Death (Ex) Twice per day, Bhaal may declare one death attack to be a double death attack. When he makes the death attack, the victim must make two saving throws to survive rather than just one.
Dual Boost (Ex) Bhaal can use two boost maneuvers simultaneously. Whenever he initiates a boost maneuver, he can also initiate any other boost maneuver that he knows as a free action. Both boosts he initiates are expended normally. He can use this ability three times per day.
Lord of Murder (unique salient divine ability) Death is Bhaal’s kingdom, but assassination is his trade. Murder is his art and his gift, and he has honed his skills at bringing death to truly terrifying heights. This grants Bhaal the following boons:
Enhanced Spellcasting: Bhaal continues progressing his assassin spells up till 9th level, although he can only select spells from the Dread Necromancer spell list and the illusion and necromancy schools in addition to the spells allowed by his Assassin and Soulreaver levels.
Killer Instinct: 15 times per day, Bhaal can make a death attack against a foe without studying the foe beforehand. Every attack of opportunity he makes resolves as a death attack.
Profiling: Bhaal can study a target as a move or swift action. He gains a +15 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Search, Spot and Survival checks attempted against that opponent, and a +15 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against it as well as to the DCs of all Assassin and Soulreaver abilities against that target, and automatically confirms all critical threats against his studied targets. He can maintain these bonuses against 15 opponents at a time; these bonuses remain in effect until either the opponent is dead or he studies a new target. When Bhaal deals sneak attack damage to a target, he can study that target as an immediate action.
Trained Killer: Bhaal uses his character level to determine the effectiveness of his assassin class abilities. This also grants him 10 virtual bonus feats in addition to those already gained from his divine rank and his class levels.
Quick to Act (Ex) Bhaal has a +5 bonus on initiative checks.
Sense Magic (Su) Bhaal can spend 10 minutes focusing upon a weapon or suit of armor. If he succeeds on a level check (DC 10 + the caster level of the weapon or armor), he can identify the properties of that item, including its enhancement bonus and special abilities. This ability does not reveal the properties of artifacts or legacy weapons, though it does indicate that such items are significantly powerful.
Sudden Death (Ex) Twice per day, Bhaal can draw on unholy energies to strike with blinding speed with a death attack. This death attack is a full-round action, but it does not require him to spend 3 rounds studying his victim; the attack must still be a sneak attack, however.
Vampiric Death (Su) Bhaal may declare a single death attack to be a vampiric death attack, up to twice per day. If the death attack successfully slays the victim, he absorbs a tiny portion of the departing soul's life energies and gains a +6 profane bonus to his Strength and Constitution and +6d6 temporary hit points for the next hour. This cannot be combined with the double death ability.
Possessions
Bhaal wields the bone blades, a set of bone daggers he can conjure at will as melee weapons or as ranged weapons. The bone blades are +10 ghost strike keen speed wounding daggers of ki focus, martial discipline and unholy power when wielded as melee weapons and +10 ghost strike keen speed wounding daggers of distant shot, triple throwing and unholy power as ranged weapons. On a critical strike, the victim is afflicted with wither limb. Bhaal’s weapons are extensions of his being and thus are treated as unarmed strikes when it would be most advantageous and confer their weapon bonuses and special abilities to his unarmed strikes. (CL 65th)

2024.05.07 15:50 saigononex "Miles I Walk" memoir book , seen same as a knock-out to Vinfast Auto Ltd by their insider

There are many confusion points but i describing here for the first time with Confusing 1st point is "Study abroad detail has troubled." Because Mr Hue is a General for Vinfast , i must sharing for good Vietnamese.
1. Why Mr Vo-Quang-Hue study abroad wrong in detail.
As a student who studied abroad around 1972 under the Republic of Vietnam regime, his education was known to be quite exemplary according to European-American standards; I don't understand why Mr. Hue only knows German, but in English he has to take extra classes like an illiterate businessman (as Anglo-French teachers and teachers say). He worked for BMW for too many years. In many countries (?) does Mr. Hue only use German language when communicating with all partners?.

More special clip watching from Linkedin platform
https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/the-new-vietnamese-business-at-6924507954142482432/
It's surprising to know that Mr. Vo Quang Hue was born in 1952. In 1970, when he was in third grade, he planned to study abroad, but at the end of 1971 (beginning of the 1972 school year), he was allowed to study abroad in Germany. .. This detail is very illogical, during the war period, people allowed to study abroad must be good students who are exempt from military service, allowing them to continue entering university. For people born in 1952, it is exempted. The military draft and the need to go abroad were in 1969-1970, no one was allowed to be late in age or late in school. There cannot be a case where one can enter university late and be granted permission to study abroad in Germany. . Mr. Hue said that at that time he was not allowed to study in France because government was afraid that students would follow the anti-war movement.
It is completely wrong, Mr. Hue was born in 1952, he was required to study according to the French program, and had to take the BAC I and BAC 2 exams (French baccalaureate diploma ,French baccalaureate diploma 1 and 2) to qualify to study abroad in France.
Mr. Hue is not good at French or English, I don't know how he completed it.An application to a university in any country where he is a good student to study abroad Students must also be able to write in.
How did Mr. Hue or his father get a permit to study abroad? It can be accurately explained that Mr. Hue was allowed to go to Germany in a private (unofficial) case due to his father's job. For example, when working for the Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate in Germany, Mr. Hue's father worked as a cryptographic secretary, meaning that when his father asked for his son to stay, they had to take him on a plane to the ministry. diplomats, whether they have a license or not. After arriving in that country, they take the paperwork test (all kinds paper of ID, driving, ...and more).
Be present in Germany without the need to apply to study abroad from Vietnam. In case Mr. Hue objects, I will continue with a small explanation but a very specific demonstration of Right and Wrong.
I would like to temporarily not state the conclusion with specific logic on today.and following this "Miles I Walk" memoir.,( ...continued)
Because i'm a blogger and sharing any good think, good action just beyond on social media and Linkedin platform..

2024.05.07 15:36 Wowgrp95 Alleria and Turalyons relationship future after the latest story

Funnily enough since I foresaw some problems on the horizon I posted about the topic naught but a week ago and with the latest story I think it grants new doubts in the horizon
After yesterday‘s story what are your thoughts on how they will shape up their connection in the future.
Somehow they made their relationship feel both completely broken and with a chance of rekindling. They are clearly avoiding having a very important conversation that may lead them to their separation but which avoiding is certainty putting a very big strain in their relationship that could be solved by communicating.
There were moments of finality like Alleria thinking that he may no longer love her for who she is and also hoping they can rekindle things. she also put a barrier were she herself wanted but avoided embracing him after months being separated.
What do you think will happen? are they setting up a total breck down and possible interfactional conflict with this or is this just part of their journey towards a more stable life in which void and light can be compatible?
This relationship has had so many ups and does but they have maintained it through a thousand years so it would be such a bummer if they go for the route of “things are irreconcilable”. They also did a 180 turn with them since in Dragon Flight they said they were fine again and in Shadowrising Turalyon was said to accept her darkness but now he doesn’t? which is weird.
Thoughts?

2024.05.07 15:33 yashsingh14 What more does it take to get in???

Hi! I'm an Indian student who applied to unis in Europe and the UK for a Master's in Finance programme. Now that I'm receiving my application results back, it is the worst feeling ever.
So far, I've been rejected by: Oxford, Imperial, LBS, Bocconi, and HEC Paris. As far as my profile goes, I completed my undergrad in 2023 with a CGPA of 8.2/10 (around 3.5 on the 4.0 scale), have a 325 on the GRE, have an 8.0 on the IELTS, have held leadership positions in subject societies in both high school and undergrad, have completed 2 internships (in financial analysis and digital marketing) in startups and I'm currently working in project operations (part-time).
For the application process, I wrote and checked my essays and SOPs multiple times and even had them reviewed by peers and an admissions counselor. Still, no luck. What bothers me more is the fact that LBS, Imperial, and HEC Paris have a separate interview round and I wasn't even shortlisted for that.
I know that getting into unis is not all about grades which is fair, but what bothers me is that I took a gap year in order to do well with the GRE, IELTS and applications whilst working as well but still it didn't reap any benefits. For the past weeks, all I've been thinking about is what my profile lacks or what could I have done wrong.
I criticise the Indian system for solely relying on entrance exams to grant admissions but this "holistic profile review" which means a lot and also nothing at the same time seems even worse. It just feels unfair that after doing everything well imo, I'm still at square one.

2024.05.07 15:32 SeasideStorm [Online] [EST] [5e]n [18+][LGBTQIA+ Friendly] Wednesday Night Gritty Rime of the Frostmaiden Game!

Welcome, dice rollers new and old!
Summary
I am looking to run a Rime of the Frostmaiden game through its entirety, starting at level 1 and going all of the way to level 12. The campaign will be run pretty by the book, as I am not the most confident DM in the world and I like structure, with a few major changes:
  1. We will be using the Gritty Realism sleep mod from the DMG. For those unfamiliar, this changes short rests to be 8 hours long and long rests to be 7 days long. While this is a major nerf to casters, that is not why I am making this change. RotF is supposed to be a depressing, wintery horror adventure where you are against the elements just as much (if not more so) than actual enemies. This change makes that more apparent and incentivizes strategy and planning.
  2. While not strictly a change, to keep this feeling of planning and oppression going we will be using inventory management when it comes to weight, ammo, and food.
  3. While also not a change, and not even something specific to this campaign and just more me as a DM, I do hold caster's accountable when it comes to material components. If you don't have a foci or pouch, it is consumed or has a cost, or you have both your hands full, I take not of that. Same with using magic in public settings.
I want to be upfront about these changes as they do make the game harder and for some they can certainty be less fun, but I really want to sell the desperate nature that an eternal winter brings.
Time
Games will be weekly Wednesday nights from 7pm EST to whenever a good stopping point comes, but roughly between 10pm - 11pm.
Resources
Ideal Party
Since I am 21, looking for others around my age but I am open to anyone as long as the vibe of the party meshes well and I think everyone will work together. I am looking for 4 or 5 people of any experience level (as long as you have a good understanding of the rules).
Character Creation
For character creation we will be using:

Unveiling the World of Journal Papers: A Guide for the Curious
In the realm of academia, one of the most vital and prestigious forms of scholarly communication is the journal paper. These papers encapsulate cutting-edge research, critical insights, and profound discoveries within diverse fields of study, ranging from physics to psychology and biology to business. For those new to this sphere or simply curious about the inner workings of academic publishing, delving into the world of journal papers can be both enlightening and rewarding.
Understanding journal papers
Journal papers, often referred to simply as "papers" or "articles," are formal documents that communicate original research findings or reviews of existing research. They serve as a means for researchers to share their work with the global academic community, contributing to the collective advancement of knowledge. These papers undergo a rigorous process of peer review, where experts in the field critically evaluate the research before publication.
Anatomy of a Journal Paper

  1. Title and Abstract: The paper begins with a concise title that reflects the study's focus. An abstract follows, summarising the paper's objectives, methods, results, and conclusions.
  2. Introduction: This section outlines the context and significance of the research, presenting the problem statement and the research questions or hypotheses.
  3. Literature Review: Researchers provide a comprehensive review of existing studies relevant to their research topic, highlighting gaps that their study aims to address.
  4. Methodology: Details of the research design, methods, data collection, and analysis procedures are presented to enable replication and validation of the findings.
  5. Results: The outcomes of the study are presented objectively, often using tables, figures, and statistical analyses.
  6. Discussion: The authors interpret the results in the context of existing literature, discuss implications, and suggest future research directions.
  7. Conclusion: The paper concludes by summarising key findings and reiterating the study's significance.
Peer Review Process
Before publication, journal papers undergo peer review to ensure quality and validity. Experts in the field critically evaluate the paper's methodology, analysis, and conclusions. Feedback from reviewers helps authors improve their work and ensures that only high-quality research reaches publication.
The importance of journal papers
Journal papers play a pivotal role in advancing knowledge and driving innovation. They provide a platform for researchers to disseminate their findings, stimulate scientific discourse, and inspire further investigation. Moreover, publication in reputable journals enhances researchers' credibility and contributes to their professional development.
Navigating the World of Journal Papers
For those interested in exploring journal papers, several avenues exist:

  1. Online Databases: Platforms like PubMed, JSTOR, and Google Scholar host vast repositories of journal papers across disciplines.
  2. University Libraries: Academic institutions provide access to journals through subscriptions, granting students and researchers opportunities to explore scholarly literature.
  3. Conferences and Workshops: Attending academic conferences allows participants to engage with researchers and discover the latest developments in their fields.
  4. Social Media and Blogs: Academic communities on platforms like Twitter and academic blogs often discuss and share notable journal papers.
Final Thoughts
Journal papers represent the lifeblood of academic discourse and innovation. They embody the pursuit of knowledge, the quest for understanding, and the collaborative spirit of researchers worldwide. For those embarking on a journey through the vast landscape of scholarly publishing, journal papers offer an invaluable gateway to the frontiers of human knowledge. In closing, let us embrace the curiosity that drives us to explore, question, and discover. 2024.05.07 15:05 Ninja_SurgeFairy Aiwass might not be anything he's been said to be and future story possibilities (Spoilers up to GT10)

One of the biggest mysteries in Toaru is the identity of Aiwass. Introduced as the author of the Book of the Law, then as DRAGON*Angel or the supposed Dark Side organization DRAGON (actually a codename), Aiwass has been referred to by a variety of titles in real life and in the Index series.
Referred to as Holy Guardian Angel Aiwass, this title refers to Aiwass as yes, like a Guardian Angel but is also essentially a divine self that Magicians could contact, a concept real life Aleister adopted from his time in the Golden Dawn which in turn got it from "The Sacred Book of Abramelin the Mage," an elusive text Mathers translated. Aleister changed this concept over time in real life, presumably to add validity to his claims about Aiwass' nature. But Anna Sprengel directly eludes to Aiwass being at least connected to a person's will when she calls him "the walking amplifier for my will that has a mind of its own!!” Though this doesn't inherently mean extension of her will.
Aiwass has also been referred to as the Angel of the Pure World, because he's an Angel not mentioned in any religion (which is technically not true but I'll get to that later). And he's also called a Secret Chief. Now, I've made a theory on Secret Chiefs recently, but essentially, the best way to describe them is those within the Third Order of the grading system used by the Golden Dawn, Aleister's Thelemic Cabal known as the A∴A∴, the Societas Rosicruciana who they claimed to have inherited it from, and presumably the Order of the Golden and Rosy Cross where it seems to have originated from, who grant authority for the foundation of Magic Cabals, and based on the significance of the Third Order in at least the Dawn and Thelema, have climbed the Sephiroth and/or crossed the Abyss.
Real life Mathers wrote about them and implied they can communicate with the beings found in Mythology, seemingly acting as Messengers/oracles of sorts though that's merely my interpretation. But Aiwass has been called a Messenger of Thoth and apparantly in the Book of the Law, was called Minister to Hoor-paar-kraat, one aspect of the Thelemic interpretation of Horus (Thelema is a religion, with Mythological basis, and one could say that Aiwass could be one of the Angels that Thelema attributes to Horus, playing the role of his minister, though based on what an HGA was initially stated to be, that role as a minister and it don't entirely line up). But at least in the fictional universe of Toaru, Anna says in GT8 that Aiwass is pretending to be a divine messenger.
One last interpretation majorly touched on by Index is the idea that Aiwass was an alien, which is complicated on its own, but is seemingly a misunderstanding or theory. There's various interpretations and theories, and its difficult to say for certain what real life Aleister believed he was. My dislike of real life Aleister and disbelief in Thelema aside, people do believe in it and have their own interpretations of who Aiwass is, and I'm not qualified to make my own. But within the Toaru series, an aspect of his character has gone unmentioned for some time now, as far as I can tell.
Aiwass says a few things in his debut before Accelerator, essentially saying that the words Dragon or Angel aren't inaccurate descriptions of who he is, but thst he's a different Angel then the Biblical interpretation so the title of Dragon should be used as well. Now, as far as I can tell; there isn't some correlation between Holy Guardian Angels and Dragons (I even looked up if Dragons have a prominent role in Thelema and it doesn't seem like they do too much), nor can I find some tie between them and Secret Chiefs. But Aiwass is essentially saying that he's akin to an Angel, but different from Biblical Angels, and in some ways akin to a Dragon.
Now, Angels within religion are typically beings whom divine beings use to communicate to specific humans. They're very important to various religions. Dragons are a bit more complicated because the interpretation of what they are changes between myth, legend, religion, etc. But Aiwass is saying, both are close but nothing anyone's said is spot on. This must mean Aiwass has some aspects comparable to Angels and Dragons.
So what is Aiwass? No idea. And because its so dubious in real life, Kamachi might have to take some liberty. But my point is, even though its not a new point since GT8 kinda implies it by listing various things the Novel has called him, followed up by "no one really knows what he is," Aiwass is probably not a Thelemic Holy Guardian Angel, Secret Chief, Extraterrestrial Lifeform, Messenger of Thoth, etc. He's something else. And this is great news for Toaru's story in an interesting way.
With the end of NT, two of the biggest plot lines of Toaru, Aleister Crowley and Lola Stuart/Coronzon were resolved. The two live on and Aleister has a new Arc, but their role as antagonists has seemingly ended. I know some think Aleister's just gonna jump back on the grind and start erasing Magic the second Touma is reborn, but I just don't see it. But either way; while Toaru had many lingering plot lines and directions to take, in terms of built up antagonists, Anna Sprengel and Aiwass took the stage. And while Anna has revealed her true nature and Aiwass being an antagonist is debatable, his role, as well as the Transcendents, set the story up to possibly delve into the Secret Chiefs, which led me to think that GT might finally tackle Aiwass' plot line.
But since I don't think Aiwass is anything he's been said to be, I personally think this means that if GT's second Arc is the Secret Chiefs, his role doesn't have to stop when their Arc ends. Meaning one of the long standing antagonists could continue on beyond GT. And while I think we'll setup new things as well since Kamachi has a lot of Volumes he wants to do, its always cool to see antagonists built up over time, if they're done well and get good payoff.
TL:DR; Aiwass is probably not a Secret Chief or anything else we've been told and that mystery could be something we could continue to follow beyond GT. Some people here might get to share the story of Aiwass with their kids! Yeah!

2024.05.07 15:05 BlueKingfisher3 Destiny's conversation with Devin Nash and the elephant in the room

"Twitter isn't real life, go touch some grass" was a popular sentiment in this community and others about 3 years ago, but is the underlying assumption still true? I loved the convo between devin and destiny for discussing this particular topic.
I believe one of the central threads sewn throughout the zeitgeist of our current times is the ever increasing influence of the internet on our daily lives. Brave take I know, but I think it has to be said. Especially after covid, something definitely changed. I feel It is so normalized and ubiquitous to many, (especially young people! who have become almost like like fish in water), that we often underplay its underlying influence on the events of our lives, both big and small. I feel that destiny is uniquely positioned to be one of the harbingers of the dangers of the internet that we are beginning to see unfold in real time, and I only hope that he sees and understands this. This conversation gave me a lot of hope that he does, but I think more work needs to be done to realize this idea in the collective unconscious of the masses. Right now it feels like we are the blind men feeling the elephant, one feels the snout and says its the jews, the other feels the tail and says its the democrats, the other feels the hard bulky body and says its the tankies etc. etc. I think you get the point. The truth is we are all feeling the underlying elephant in the room, which is the internet and its downstream effects.
The internet is unlike anything ever before in human existence, a seemingly endless interconnected new dimension composed of human thoughts we can plug into, navigate through and interact with. (Kind of reminds me of the great link from DS9), a veritable virtual hivemind where thoughts are uploaded, spread and immortalized; communications and thoughts go viral and come and go at light speed. Cool right? A realized collective unconscious, I think Jung would have a heart attack, cum his pants or both. Except this becomes has started to become a problem for a number of reasons.
I'm not a philosophy expert, but I would argue that perception is reality, or at least perception often becomes reality, especially for most people who don't think about philosophy and things. Since we cannot experience reality through anything but our own biased perspective who can say what objective reality truly is? is there a such thing as truth? These questions are fun to think about but are beyond me. I'm mostly worried about the idea that human perceptions, which are subject to many thought traps, biases, and distortions that I believe are being magnified via the internet and becoming manifested into reality. Take for example the recent discourse about people being unhappy with Biden's economy. Despite all metrics saying the economy is doing relatively well, people are still unhappy with the economic situation. Why is this? I won't pretend to have an answer but some believe social media is to blame. Will stancil a twitter libtard, and congressional candidate has tweeted A LOT about this phenomenon. some examples: https://twitter.com/whstancil/status/1778517866897174553 https://twitter.com/whstancil/status/1785630261285154961 https://twitter.com/whstancil/status/1785376394492494243 https://twitter.com/whstancil/status/1785352353463276015 It could literally be because door dashing food or eating at mcdonalds costs more.
It is well known that there is a negativity bias in media, this also appears to be true for social media. Except I think there is almost zero effort at creating good faith content on social media, and often explicit effort at creating actually malicious content with almost no punishment as of now. At least in the united states, you can really say almost anything on social media relatively anonymously and get away with it, and people are starting to learn how to use this to their advantage. Whether its influencers, advertisers, foreign governments or some guy in his moms basement trolling the internet is flooded with negative and harmful thoughts. This has led to a gold rush of sorts into the influence sphere. Content translates into thoughts that then spread virally and create a kind of idea virus or meme. The problem is that due to negativity getting more clicks, huge negative spirals of sentiment and discourse are created, like some kind of negativity hurricane. The red spot of jupiter got nothing on Andrew Tate or the Israel Palestine discourse. Most bright spots are few and far between. Cat memes, good oc or creative art and content are often lost inside this whirling storm of internet sludge.
I am reminded of this quote from Earl Nightengale: "let's say that the farmer has two seeds in his hand- one is a seed of corn, the other is nightshade, a deadly poison. He digs two little holes in the earth and he plants both seeds-one corn, the other nightshade. He covers up the holes, waters and takes care of the land...and what will happen? Invariably, the land will return what was planted. As it's written in the Bible, "As ye sow, so shall ye reap." Remember the land doesn't care. It will return poison in just as wonderful abundance as it will corn. So up come the two plants - one corn, one poison. The human mind is far more fertile, far more incredible and mysterious than the land, but it works the same way. It doesn't care what we plant...success...or failure. A concrete, worthwhile goal...or confusion, misunderstanding, fear, anxiety and so on. But what we plant must return to us." Just as the human mind is fertile, so to is the "mind" of the internet, and there is a rush to plant whatever we can.
I believe that these cyclones has become so powerful, and so REAL, that it is easier than ever to get caught up in it. The hivemind is here, and its easier than ever to turn your brain off and go waste hours scrolling, while you are reading other peoples thoughts or watching them, you are essentially letting other people think for you. Its easy and fun to let other people think for you, especially when so many are grasping at straws for some kind of meaning these days. This is part of the reason I think the US gov banned china. Yes it gave photos, contacts, face scans and more to the chinese government. But More important I think was a foot inside the mind of the average American and a lever to influence it one way or another if desired.
Devin's argument that just going offline will help, is only partially right. It will help you personally, but I feel this is akin to a country trying to become isolationist in an already globalized world. Even if a few people may overcome the perfectly tailored dopamine content machines that are modern social media platforms, the large majority is still feeding into that storm and often stuck inside it themselves. It fails to solve the larger societal problem of the endless raging hurricane that grows stronger everyday
I think You can recently notice this easily when people pull out their phones to record something in bizarre situations, like hunter avalone vlogging during him getting shot, prank videos, people sticking cameras in the faces of people they're road raging against, people snitching on themselves doing crime by posting videos of it etc. there is a real presence the internet that can be noticed by a careful observer if you just think why the fuck are they recording and uploading this? People have even started to use the word chat to refer to this hivemind, which I find kinda funny but kinda terrifying. Many knowingly or unknowingly participate in this, and it begins to alter their behavior because they feel that they if they act in a certain way in connection to the collective consciousness they will be vindicated, rewarded, satisfied etc. by their connection and contribution to the hivemind when they share their experience/video later. I think this is kind of what destiny refers to as a constellation of ideas, and how we are seeing people's ideas influenced and reinforced by the desire for social belonging to the collective
Not to mention that Due to the disconnection from any normal human interaction we have evolved to have (no facial expressions, body language.), its all too easy to revert to our worst selves and forget to be empathetic to one another like human beings. We find safety to do the worst among the mob of others stuck in the frenzied hivemind whirlwind, leading to cancelling, (which is easier than ever due to the ever increasing % of our lives online, especially since its archived forever) increasingly absurd purity testing, trolling, harrasing, doxxing, misinformation, demagoguery, populism and other negative behaviors.
The main point I'm trying to get at is that I feel destiny, not through any fault of his own, often focuses on the downstream effects of this phenomenon of the internet, ex misinformation, divisive rhetoric, extremist politics etc. When instead I think he needs to acknowledge and look into the upstream antecedents of these phenomena, which is human psychology and the powerful magnifier that is the internet. Destiny used to say, oh its just these right wing dipshits. Then he realized it was lefties too... then it was the twitch chatters, and so on. The truth is we are all subject to these sorts of things destiny fights against because we are all humans that fall for the same common human psychological traps. (YOU ARE NOT IMMUNE TO PROPAGANDA.) I feel that a greater understanding of human psychology and a psychological approach could help destiny in understanding his debate opponents, convincing audience members, and giving context to public figures thoughts and actions. I honestly believe that what destiny does during his debates, especially with good faith interlocuters, is somewhat akin to Cognitive behavioral therapy, (not with his opponent but with their audience), rather than formal debate. Pointing out the flaws in the other persons underlying thought process is often the most effective method of convincing audience members.
Everyone says things have really gotten crazy in recent years, first it was just an arab spring, then obama, then it was just trump, then it was just covid yada yada. But the real culprit has and will continue to be the internet. I believe in creating the internet humanity has undertaken a construction of a veritable Tower of Babel, a way for us to "climb" to "heaven" and achieve "godhood" through the creation of a physical hivemind inside some supercomputer. The internet seems it is here here to stay, so it stands to reason its only a matter of time before we do away with the clumsy interfaces we know and are all eventually jacked into it on some musk brainchip shit. Who knows what that will be like, but I think it must be the closest thing I can imagine to godhood, a true superconsciousness. That is, Unless god comes down from heaven and punishes us, scatters us across the globe and turns our first attempt at a common consciousness into a scattered landscape of separated idea bubbles where we can no longer interact with one another. It seems is already happening. The writing is on the wall I just hope we can see it and understand its implications in time before we suffer its worst consequences and I think destiny is one of the few who can decipher and spread that gospel written on that wall.
TL;DR:
  1. Perception is essentially as good as reality for most people.
  2. The internet is the collective unconsciousness realized, a real manifested hivemind of human thought independent of our own individual minds. The problem is this consciousness can be interacted with and altered in ways we do not yet understand and are not able to address.
  3. This hivemind is subject to our typical human faults, creating distorted thoughts. Combined with negativity bias, perceptions are altered leading to an alteration of our reality in a self reinforcing cycle I call a negativity hurricane.
  4. hiding from this negativity hurricane doesn't make it go away, only awareness of it (and probably subsequent legislative action) can make it go away. That is why it is important to spread this idea which destiny can help with.
  5. meme magic is real, the internet is the tower of babel and destiny is the messiah inshallah blesstiny

2024.05.07 14:57 MingePies My ex owes me near £4000. She is ignoring any attempts to solve amicably.

My ex girlfriend and I lived together for two years in my house which I own with a mortgage. We dated prior to this and lived apart. At no point was she ever named officially on the mortgage but she was registered at this address with official documents such as driving licence etc.
Prior to moving in here, she was short on bills etc and asked to borrow a bit of money which I agreed to. Upon moving in, she relocated so had to leave her other job and take a temporary job which didn’t pay super well. As a result, she also borrowed money to pay bills when we were together.
This continued until she changed jobs and earned a good wage and she did not ask to borrow any more money.
The total amount she borrowed came to £3800. This was all via bank transfer. Prior to moving in I have copies of her asking to borrow the money (specifically, using the term borrow) but once we lived together this was agreed verbally with nothing in writing.
Whilst living together, she did not pay a penny towards the bills. She did send me £1000 at one point to cover a purchase.
I know I’m a mug for letting things get this far and I guess I was naive and love struck but now I can reflect and realise I was taken for granted.
I have attempted to solve this amicably to no avail. She has blocked me, refuses to acknowledge or communicate the matter and the only way I have of contacting her is through a WhatsApp group where people have left and only us two remain.
We broke up five months ago and she moved out. There is still a bunch of her stuff at my place. It is not worth anywhere near the amount owed and honestly I don’t want it here anymore, but I feel it is at least some collateral.
I really do not want to take this to court. Despite the resentment I don’t wish to cause extra grief for her and I know it will be a huge headache for me too. However, if this is my only option I will do it.
I don’t know where I stand in regards to evidence of what is borrowed, other than the early texts where she asked to borrow the money and/or a copy of the bank transfer records.
This is a throwaway account but I have found this sub extremely helpful when browsing with my main so I hope someone can shed some advice here please. I appreciate that I have fuelled emotion attached to the situation so I welcome an unbiased and educated third party insight.
ETA: All current and prior events occurred in England. No kids or other dependants involved. Not married or engaged.
Thanks in advance.

A 'Moonshot': a living biological knee replacement
The University of Missouri and Columbia University in New York have partnered up for a “moonshot” project called NOVA Joint: the development of a fully biological knee replacement grown in a lab, which might be ready for patients in the next five years.
The partnership is one of five teams working on projects from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health. The team will receive $39 million in funding if it continues to meet the project’s milestones.
The science and engineering behind the NOVA Joint will come primarily out of Columbia University, with MU advising. MU will then be responsible for animal trials in Year Two and clinical trials in subsequent years.
The knee replacement would involve growing cartilage and bone from a patient’s own cells or donor cells, said James Cook, MU’s principal investigator on the project. Cook is a veterinarian, Ph.D. and vice chair of orthopedic research at MU.
“When you put (the knee replacement) in, it can stand up to the rigors of not only daily life, but recreation and sport and all those things,” Cook said. “It is like growing a brand new joint.”
Three of the project’s developers called it a “moonshot.”
“The impact here is not just if this can be done, the impact and the ‘moonshot’ is can this be done under these constraints and requirements that are mandated by the program,” said Nadeen Chahine, an associate professor of biomedical engineering in orthopedic surgery at Columbia University.
Two versions of the replacement will be created with the hopes they will be more reliable than the traditional knee replacement. One version of the joint will be grown with donated cells and is expected to be created within 24 hours of knowing who the patient is. This is considered the more “off the shelf” concept, but still poses a large challenge for researchers.
The other option involves growing replacement tissue within 30 days using the patient’s own cells. These processes do not grow brand new knees, but rather stem cells and tissues that are then delivered into the joint along with biodegradable material that will support the joint until it is reabsorbed by the body. This material will degrade as the new cells begin to grow and eventually fully support the joint.
“We would love to try and do something perfectly, and I think the only way really is to try and restore your joint to the way God made it,” Cook said. “You know: beautiful, white, glistening, smooth cartilage that resurfaces your whole joint and allows you to do all the things a normal knee can do.”
The project aims to combat osteoarthritis, which affects 15% of people 30 years and older, according to a Lancet study. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and is mostly found in the hands, hips and knees, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. With the disease, the cartilage in a joint breaks down, leading to pain, stiffness and swelling. Treatment typically involves physical therapy, medications and, in cases where all else fails, joint replacement.
“It is a tremendous quality of life disease, and the huge burden is not just in the disability that the patients exhibit and experience, but also in the impact on their ability to sustain their lives,” Chahine said.
The current treatment for the worst cases of the disease is total knee replacement. These replacements are made out of metal or plastic and often have to be redone a few years after they are placed. Additionally, these replacements often limit patient movement while still improving their condition from before the replacement. Cook’s motivation in the project is driven by personal experience. His grandfather needed eight revision surgeries on his knee replacement and he ended up in a wheelchair at the end of his life as a result.
“When you get artificial joint replacement, you’ve gotta change your lifestyle, and if you live more than 15 years, you gotta expect to have it done again,” Cook said.
The project is made more challenging by a commercialization aspect. The project will not be considered complete until researchers can bring the treatment to the marketplace in an affordable way, if the team makes it that far. Several milestones are related to the scaling and affordability of the treatment.
The program kicked off in the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma due to the prevalence of osteoarthritis in Native Americans, with the goal of addressing barriers in getting this new technology to all patients in an affordable way. To do this, communication between researchers and organizations, like Medicare, Medicaid and insurers, is needed.
“The goal here is to not only create an implant that’s going to be one-and-done and live with the patient for the rest of their lives, but to also bring down the cost of medical care,” Chahine said.
The loftiness of this goal highlights the need for a multidisciplinary approach. The two universities hold biweekly Zoom meetings with people from a wide variety of departments, ranging from engineers to regulatory and ethics personnel. This need for cooperation and playing to individual strengths is the reason for MU and Columbia University’s partnership.
Hung and Cook have known each other for around 20 years and have collaborated on multiple research studies and grants. Hung turned to Cook and MU for this project because of their experience and knowledge with research leading to clinical trials.
Cook’s research has led to several innovations, such as a test to detect arthritis before symptoms develop and pioneering a way to double the shelf life of donor cartilage tissue. That discovery has played an important role in the Missouri Joint Preservation Project. Prior to the current project, Cook’s research helped create the Missouri BioJoint Center, which developed procedures using tissue from deceased donors in knee replacements. In 2021, the university settled a number of personal injury and false advertisement lawsuits related to the BioJoint Center for $16 million.
Despite the lawsuits, the center laid the groundwork to help make this program possible through the research and experience it provided, Cook said. Additionally, the program helped show that MU was capable of running a large and complex program backed by government funding.

2024.05.07 14:33 1dollabills Wanting to restart medical school in UK

Hello Everyone,
I know the title sounds absurd but I currently really need help, an outlook on the impacts such decisions if they were to be taken will have. The backstory: I'm 23, currently a 5th year medical student in romania and for this past year I have been wanting to dropout and pursue medicine from scratch in the UK(whether thats to take a BSC and apply GEM, Access to HE medicine course). I was a bright student, predicted 3A* in Yr 13 however at the time mental health took a toll on me and got avg grades leading to the destinty in shape of medical school in the EU.
I say this as in last 5 years I have not gained the competency of what a medical student approaching those years should have. The lack of clinical and communicational skills due to the poor teaching/exposure that exist in these eastern european medical schools have significantly impacted how I would be able to cope as a junior doctor in the UK if i were to graduate and in hindsight being in rigourous competition with UK peers ultimately leading to dilution in imposter land. (Also the constant voices of never been good enough to get into british medical school in the first place) to be the head of all this.
Don't ask me why I have been thinking of this 5 years later as I myself cannot seem to answer the question. These circumstances abroad have made me take medicine for granted and to alter these pressure and thoughts the only solution I seem to think of is to give medicine another chance. I do apologise if this seems so negative and ungrateful but having someone help with perhaps a clearer mind could be a difference.

I failed the hearing part of the medical exam. I was born with a condition called Microtia. I'm hard of hearing in the right ear (closed ear canal). I can hear fine with left ear and don't have problems communicating with people in or out of work. I'm 34 years old and currently work for local government as a park ranger. I use a police radio and don't have problems communicating with Police dispatch. I was told by the case manager that I will have to go to an audiologist on my dime and retest again. If i happen to fail the test again is it possible to request a waiver? And what are the chances they grant a waiver? Again I normally can hear fine. I am hard of hearing in one ear but I can function fine in society and have not had any issues in any of my jobs or school due to my condition.
