2024.05.14 02:15 Inevitable_Box_419 Being Bullied by the Administration at my School, What do I do?

I’m a senior at a public high school. Last December, I had a depressive episode and missed 12 days of school and ~60 assignments. Per school policy, students are allowed to make up work when they’re absent. I contacted the school social worker to coordinate my return and ensure that I could complete the mountain of work which awaited me, and all seemed to go smoothly at first.
Around a month later, one teacher continuously refused to allow me to make up work, and instead gave me zeroes for a slew of assignments which lowered my grade significantly. To justify this move, they made up a variety of claims: that I was disrespectful, that I was given the chance to make up the work but simply hadn’t, and other things. When I raised this concern to the social worker, I was forced by this teacher to apologize for nonexistent disrespectful behavior, and my grade still wasn’t changed.
Then a couple weeks later, another teacher did something similar. They had agreed to let me finish the work, which I had done (and then contacted them numerous times to change my grade), but they never graded my work. When I got my parents involved, they deleted my work from Google classroom to make it seem as though I had never done the work to begin with, and then changed even more grades - some from months prior - which tanked my grade in the class significantly.
A third teacher also failed to grade an assignment; I won’t get into too much detail but it’s pretty similar to the other two. I got the vice principal and principal involved, but they repeated the lies that the other teachers made about me and are now ignoring me. This was five months ago, and my grades for the previous semester still haven’t been changed. These grades were so exceptionally low, such a steep drop off from my previous performance, that I was rejected from every college I applied to and now have to go to community college.
In audition, two of the three teachers have continued to tank my grade this semester. One of them allows a student who is in my class to grade my assignments on the teacher’s behalf. When I spoke to the administration about this, nothing was done. The other teacher has pulled so much bullshit that it I could write a book about it, so I’ll just list a few things here:
Left the room while I was taking a test and then gave me a 0
Gave me a 0 for a homework assignment I missed while I was in the emergency room
Accused me of throwing a test in the garbage and then gave me a 0 for it
Accused me of cheating on a test that I should have gotten a 100 on; took it from me when I showed her a grading error that they made and now claim that they don’t have the test
Quite frankly, I just can’t take it anymore. There is no possible way that I, a single student, can take on three teachers and the principal. My grades are in the toilet right now because they can just do whatever they fucking want, no matter how hard I try. These days I just come home and cry on the floor. Barring any changes in this bullying pattern, I plan to chuck myself off a bridge or something of that nature. What the hell am I supposed to do about this situation?

2024.05.14 01:59 love_is_a_superpower Love unites us - sin divides us

Where the body is, the eagles will gather together. - Luke 17:37
Jesus has been given all authority in heaven and on earth. (Matthew 28:18, Daniel 7:27)
Still, the demonic realm is fighting against Him and His armies. (Ephesians 6:12, 1 Corinthians 10:20-24, Leviticus 17:7, Psalm 106:37)
They fight for territory in the hearts of men. (Daniel 2:35) Their weapons are lies and warped logic. The battle is to conquer the human soul. (James 1:8, 1 Kings 18:21)
Jesus likened the hearts of mankind to a farmer's field. (Matthew 13:38) The logic we're exposed to has the potential to change us and use us to propagate it. (Mark 4:14, Romans 12:2, Leviticus 18:30) The logic we receive is the seed we're sown with. (Hosea 8:7, 1 John 3:24, Luke 8:15) We discard "propaganda" we don't agree with.
What we propagate, proves who we allowed to sow our hearts. (John 8:42-44, Luke 6:45) Our heavenly Father's logic is the bread-corn, the wheat. (Isaiah 53:10, Hosea 2:23, John 1:12, John 12:24) It benefits life. It's purpose is to sustain life and make it enjoyable. (Isaiah 55:2-3) The enemy's logic is the counterfeit. It looks like wheat at first, but does not pass the test of nourishing others. (Matthew 12:34, Romans 10:2-3, Isaiah 58)
It takes from the common ground and uses the energy it receives to stand tall while it can . It provides nothing of value. (Matthew 13:39, Deuteronomy 32:17)
When a person speaks, it is always to influence the world around them. We are wise to separate from those with bad logic, so that we are not contaminated by it. (Matthew 5:30, Genesis 19:12-13, Isaiah 52:11, 2 Corinthians 6:17)
When the harvest comes, the poisonous weeds are thrown out to keep them from contaminating what is good. (Matthew 13:30, 1 John 3:15-18)
As God's creation, we were made to work together to sustain life. Once sin entered our experience, we became divided. The Bible explains that this division is between the living and the dead. Because God is eternal, He sees death long before we do. His word teaches us to see the spiritual cancer of sin, so we can avoid the death it brings. God made us alive, and He wants us to stay that way. Those who accept our Creator's logic don't unite with this world, they only pass through it. (John 11:26, Hebrews 9:27, Isaiah 57:1, Genesis 5:24) Like harvested grain, our Father saves life-bringers for the age to come. (Luke 17:22-37) When Jesus said, "I am the bread of life," He gave us an example to follow. (John 6:35, John 6:51, Romans 12:1, Psalm 16:7-11, Psalm 17:13-15, Matthew 10:25)
Death is not only a state, it is a system. This system devours itself and anything that gets in its path. Jesus explained how this death-system operates. He said, "Where the corpse, (a body lacking His Spirit) is, there the vultures will be gathered. (Galatians 5:14-15, Proverbs 18:21) A carrion-eater sees something dying and does not help it live. Instead it takes advantage of its neighbor while it can. Those who feed on death are blind to the path of life. (Job 15:14, Matthew 13:15-17, 1Timothy 4:1-2, 2 Corinthians 4:4) Their logic has transformed them and robbed them of truth. (Matthew 13:19, Proverbs 25:26) They thirst for blood like a deer thirsts for water. Their logic is unclean. (Matthew 10:16, Job 39:27-30, Psalm 42:1*)
When Jesus entered the justice system of men, He did so, knowing it would cost His life on earth. (1 Corinthians 4:5, Matthew 16:24-26, Isaiah 53) His sacrifice and example show us how to break free from the system of sin and death. (Luke 9:22-27) Jesus lived out the logic of God and proved it was good when He overcame death. (John 11:25, Genesis 5:24, 2 Kings 2:9-11, Mark 16:6)
This is the good logic that will make us fit for eternity. It is God's prayer - what He asks of us.
Listen, you who rule with God (Shema, Yisrael) (Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Mark 12:29-31)
The Lord our God, the Lord is One. (God is not divided by death-bringing logic. This truth is what makes God eternal Numbers 23:19)
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind. (be united with His logic and become eternal John 8:32, John 17:21-26)
And love your neighbor as yourself (treat the body of others as you do your own body. Leviticus 19:18, Ephesians 5:28-30, Deuteronomy 15:7-11, Proverbs 19:17)
Today, if you hear His voice, follow it into a new life with Him. He loves you. He gave up everything to have you with Him forever. There is no better time to separate from death than right now.

Daniel 2:44-45 NKJV 44 "And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. 45 "Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold--the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure."

15 "But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.
What we propagate, proves who we allowed to seed our hearts.
John 8:42-44 NKJV
42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. 43 "Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. 44 "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
Luke 6:45 NKJV
45 "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance. 3 Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you--The sure mercies of David.
The enemy's logic is the counterfeit lifestyle. It entices us to promote ourselves, regardless of whether we preserve and support life.
Matthew 12:34 NKJV
34 "Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
Romans 10:2-3 NKJV
2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.
Isaiah 58:1-14 NKJV
1 "Cry aloud, spare not; Lift up your voice like a trumpet; Tell My people their transgression, And the house of Jacob their sins. 2 Yet they seek Me daily, And delight to know My ways, As a nation that did righteousness, And did not forsake the ordinance of their God. They ask of Me the ordinances of justice; They take delight in approaching God. 3 'Why have we fasted,' they say, 'and You have not seen? Why have we afflicted our souls, and You take no notice?' "In fact, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, And exploit all your laborers. 4 Indeed you fast for strife and debate, And to strike with the fist of wickedness. You will not fast as you do this day, To make your voice heard on high. 5 Is it a fast that I have chosen, A day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush, And to spread out sackcloth and ashes? Would you call this a fast, And an acceptable day to the LORD? 6 "Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? 8 Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. 9 Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, 'Here I am.' "If you take away the yoke from your midst, The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, 10 If you extend your soul to the hungry And satisfy the afflicted soul, Then your light shall dawn in the darkness, And your darkness shall be as the noonday. 11 The LORD will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. 12 Those from among you Shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In. 13 "If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, From doing your pleasure on My holy day, And call the Sabbath a delight, The holy day of the LORD honorable, And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways, Nor finding your own pleasure, Nor speaking your own words, 14 Then you shall delight yourself in the LORD; And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth, And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father. The mouth of the LORD has spoken."
When we fail to recognize community above self-promotion, we drain life of what makes it valuable, without a way to recharge that energy. Selfishness is how we unite with the father of lies and death.
Matthew 13:39 NKJV
39 "The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.
Deuteronomy 32:17 NKJV
17 They sacrificed to demons, not to God, To gods they did not know, To new gods, new arrivals That your fathers did not fear.
When a person speaks, it is always to influence the world around them. We are wise to separate from those with bad logic, so that we are not contaminated by it.
Matthew 5:30 NKJV
30 "And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
Genesis 19:12-13 NKJV
12 Then the men said to Lot, "Have you anyone else here? Son-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whomever you have in the city--take them out of this place! 13 "For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it."
Isaiah 52:11 NKJV
11 Depart! Depart! Go out from there, Touch no unclean thing; Go out from the midst of her, Be clean, You who bear the vessels of the LORD.
2 Corinthians 6:17 NKJV
17 Therefore "Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you."
When the harvest of our souls comes upon us, those with toxic logic are excluded from the age to come. This is to keep them from bringing death into heaven the way they brought death into the earth.
Matthew 13:30 NKJV
30 'Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn." ' "
1 John 3:15-18 NKJV
15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
Those who accept our Creator's logic don't unite with death, they only pass through it. Some avoid it altogether.
John 11:26 NKJV
26 "And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"
Hebrews 9:27 NKJV
27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
Isaiah 57:1 NKJV
1 The righteous perishes, And no man takes it to heart; Merciful men are taken away, While no one considers That the righteous is taken away from evil.
Genesis 5:24 NKJV
24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.
1 Thessalonians 4:17 NKJV
17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
Like a farmer harvests grain, our Father saves life-bringers for the age to come.
Luke 17:22-37 NKJV
22 Then He said to the disciples, "The days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. 23 "And they will say to you, 'Look here!' or 'Look there!' Do not go after them or follow them. 24 "For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day. 25 "But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. 26 "And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27 "They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 "Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; 29 "but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 "Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed. 31 "In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. 32 "Remember Lot's wife. 33 "Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. 34 "I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. 35 "Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. 36 "Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left." 37 And they answered and said to Him, "Where, Lord?" So He said to them, "Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together."
Genesis 25:8 NKJV
8 Then Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.
Matthew 13:47-52 NKJV
47 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind, 48 "which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away. 49 "So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, 50 "and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth." 51 Jesus said to them, "Have you understood all these things?" They said to Him, "Yes, Lord." 52 Then He said to them, "Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old."
When Jesus said, "I am the bread of life," He gave us an example to follow.
John 6:35 NKJV
35 And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
John 6:51 NKJV
51 "I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world."
Romans 12:1 NKJV
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
Psalm 16:7-11 NKJV
7 I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel; My heart also instructs me in the night seasons. 8 I have set the LORD always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope. 10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. 11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Psalm 17:13-15 NKJV
13 Arise, O LORD, Confront him, cast him down; Deliver my life from the wicked with Your sword, 14 With Your hand from men, O LORD, From men of the world who have their portion in this life, And whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They are satisfied with children, And leave the rest of their possession for their babes. 15 As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.
Matthew 10:25 NKJV
25 "It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!
Death is a system which devours itself. Jesus explained how this death-system operates. He said, "Where the corpse (a body lacking His Spirit of life) is, there the vultures will be gathered.
Galatians 5:14-15 NKJV
14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." 15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!
Proverbs 18:21 NKJV
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.
A carrion-eater sees something dying and does not help it live. Instead it takes advantage of its neighbor while it can. Those who feed on death are blind to the path of life. Job's "friends" didn't acknowledge God's power to make people holy.
Job 15:14 NKJV
14 "What is man, that he could be pure? And he who is born of a woman, that he could be righteous?
Matthew 13:15-17 NKJV
15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.' 16 "But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; 17 "for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
1 Timothy 4:1-2 NKJV
1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,
2 Corinthians 4:4 NKJV
4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.
Those who accept death as "part of life" cannot break free from sin because of their polluted logic. Garbage in, garbage out. We thirst for what we love.
**Matthew 13:19 NKJV
19 "When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside.
Proverbs 25:26 NKJV
26 A righteous man who falters before the wicked Is like a murky spring and a polluted well.
Matthew 10:16 NKJV
16 "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
Job 39:27-30 NKJV
27 Does the eagle mount up at your command, And make its nest on high? 28 On the rock it dwells and resides, On the crag of the rock and the stronghold. 29 From there it spies out the prey; Its eyes observe from afar. 30 Its young ones suck up blood; And where the slain are, there it is."
Psalm 42:1 NKJV
1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.
When Jesus entered the justice system of men, He did so, knowing it would cost His life on earth. His sacrifice and example show us how to break free from the system of sin and death.
1 Corinthians 4:5 NKJV
5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one's praise will come from God.
Matthew 16:24-26 NKJV
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 "For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
Isaiah 53:1-12 NKJV
1 Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? 2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. 3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. 4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken. 9 And they made His grave with the wicked--But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth. 10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. 11 He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.
Luke 9:22-27 NKJV
22 saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day." 23 Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24 "For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. 25 "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? 26 "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father's, and of the holy angels. 27 "But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God."

9 And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?" Elisha said, "Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me." 10 So he said, "You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so." 11 Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
Mark 16:6 NKJV
And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.

Mark 12:29-31 NKJV
29 Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments is: 'Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one. 30 'And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment. 31 "And the second, like it, is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."

The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. 26 "And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them."

Deuteronomy 15:7-11 NKJV
7 "If there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of the gates in your land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother, 8 "but you shall open your hand wide to him and willingly lend him sufficient for his need, whatever he needs. 9 "Beware lest there be a wicked thought in your heart, saying, 'The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand,' and your eye be evil against your poor brother and you give him nothing, and he cry out to the LORD against you, and it become sin among you. 10 "You shall surely give to him, and your heart should not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing the LORD your God will bless you in all your works and in all to which you put your hand. 11 "For the poor will never cease from the land; therefore I command you, saying, 'You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy, in your land.'

2024.05.14 01:57 love_is_a_superpower Love unites us; sin divides us.

(Matthew 13:19, Proverbs 25:26*) They thirst for blood like a deer thirsts for water. Their logic is unclean. (Matthew 10:16, Job 39:27-30, Psalm 42:1)

Jesus lived out the logic of God and proved it was good when He overcame death.
John 11:25 NKJV
25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
Genesis 5:24 NKJV
24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.
2 Kings 2:9-11 NKJV
Jesus' logic makes us fit for eternity. He shows us that love is the only way to live and thrive forever. Jesus is the Word of God. He is the same yesterday, today and forever
Listen, you who rule with God (Shema, Yisrael)
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 NKJV
4 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! 5 "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 "You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 "You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 "You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
The Lord our God, the Lord is One. (God is not divided by death-bringing logic, this truth is what makes God eternal.
Numbers 23:19 NKJV
19 "God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind. (be united with His logic and become eternal.)
John 8:32 NKJV
32 "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
John 17:21-26 NKJV
21 "that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 "And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 "I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. 24 "Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 25 "O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. 26 "And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them."
Love your neighbor as yourself (treat the body of others as you do your own body.)
Leviticus 19:18 NKJV
18 'You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.
Ephesians 5:28-30 NKJV
28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.
Proverbs 19:17 NKJV
17 He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, And He will pay back what he has given.

2024.05.14 01:57 cinna6on I 27F am debating breaking up with my bf M27 of ten years?

So, been together since we were 16, both nerds and tend to stay inside most of the time. I’ve always been bored w our level of excitement, our sex life, (intimate maybe once a month- he never finishes due to anti depression meds, or lack of stamina) but he is kind and generous.
The whole time we’ve been together his employment hasn’t lasted longer than two years at a time. He attempted college but dropped out after a year or so due to lack of interest. He has gone for a handful of counselling sessions years ago at my ultimatum. He deals w depression and lack of motivation, anxiety and has a successful family whom care for him a lot but are obviously concerned. Going to family events is embarrassing as they always ask where his job status is, if he will go to school etc. I feel ashamed to admit I have to leave those conversations because I’m embarrassed. I love him so so so so much. We have four cats and are debt free, not engaged (yes that bothers me too) and don’t file as common law since that would cost more. (Live in British Columbia) His most recent job lost a contract so he’s had maybe 1-2 hrs work this last month. It’s probably the 4th-5th time he has been unemployed- he won’t apply for min wage jobs because he feels he doesn’t need to and he could get a mill labour job if it was desperate. I asked him today how long he can go for on his savings (he claims he’s living off a separate savings fund than the 110k he supposedly has invested) and he replied he can live comfortably for another six to eight weeks. I was so disappointed to hear him declare that. I told him I simply disagreed with his plans but do not want to argue.
So how do I protect my own peace while I wait on him? I’m anxious throughout the day or depressed thinking about the state of our lives. He has yelled at some people in public too recently while I was him because they were “discourteous” in some way- and yet I question why he holds his head high while unemployed ? I have not told him many of my thoughts- through previous phases of unemployment I already have and it never led to anything but push back and him feeling bad about himself. I want to stay because one it’s comfortable, it’s all I know and I fear I would regret it. When he is employed he shows good work ethic until he is bored and then he quits or the work dries up. He is nice. But I just don’t know. We didn’t even hav sex on our ten year anniversary. He said it was late and he was tired. We had been booked at a resort and yet. Nothing. We hardly seem to agree on things. I’m constantly bowing out of attempting to do things because he says he will do it. Sorry this is a mess. I kinda feel like throwing up writing it all down. How do I protect my peace if I stay or if I ask for a break? Would a break be enough push to get him to be willing to be uncomfortable for a short term job?

2024.05.14 01:55 love_is_a_superpower Love unites us - sin divides us.

(God is not divided by death-bringing logic, this truth is what makes God eternal Numbers 23:19)

1 Corinthians 10:20-24 NKJV
20 Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord's table and of the table of demons. 22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? 23 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify. 24 Let no one seek his own, but each one the other's well-being.

7 "They shall no more offer their sacrifices to demons, after whom they have played the harlot. This shall be a statute forever for them throughout their generations." '

Evil influences fight to divide us against God's eternal logic. God's logic of love works to unite us.
Daniel 2:35 NKJV
35 "Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were crushed together, and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; the wind carried them away so that no trace of them was found. And the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

1 Kings 18:21 NKJV
21 And Elijah came to all the people, and said, "How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." But the people answered him not a word.
Jesus likened the hearts of man to a farmer's field.
Matthew 13:38 NKJV

15 "But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.

Elisha said, "Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me." 10 So he said, "You have asked a hard thing.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 NKJV

This is the first commandment.

(God is not divided by death-bringing logic, this truth is what makes God eternal Numbers 23:19)

38 "The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one.
Logic has the power to change us and use us to share it.
Mark 4:14 NKJV
14 "The sower sows the word.
Romans 12:2 NKJV
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Leviticus 18:30 NKJV
30 'Therefore you shall keep My ordinance, so that you do not commit any of these abominable customs which were committed before you, and that you do not defile yourselves by them: I am the LORD your God.' "
*The logic we receive is the seed we're sown with. We discard "propaganda" we don't agree with.
Hosea 8:7 NKJV
7 "They sow the wind, And reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no bud; It shall never produce meal. If it should produce, Aliens would swallow it up.
1 John 3:24 NKJV
24 Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
Luke 8:15 NKJV
Our heavenly Father's logic is like the wheat of our field. He supports life and makes it worth living. He makes sacrifices in order to see us thrive.
John 6:51 NKJV
51 "I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world."
Isaiah 53:10 NKJV
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
Hosea 2:23 NKJV
23 Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth, And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy; Then I will say to those who were not My people, 'You are My people!' And they shall say, 'You are my God!' "
John 1:12 NKJV
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
John 12:24 NKJV
24 "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.
Isaiah 55:2-3 NKJV
2 Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Proverbs 19:17 NKJV
17 He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, And He will pay back what he has given.

2024.05.14 01:43 theoriginalceilidh Grandma wants to give a 15 minutes wedding speech

I’m fairly close with my grandmother (way closer to her than my mom, comparatively). A few days ago I was speaking to my grandma about the wedding and she mentioned that she has started writing her speech. At this point we hadn’t discussed speeches at all, and my wedding isn’t until January, so I was a little taken aback. She asked me how long she could have, so I asked her “how long do you need?” She said the speech will probably end up being 15 minutes. I jokingly responded by saying that I hope she wasn’t planning to tell my whole life story cuz our guests will leave traumatized. She laughed me off and then we changed the subject….
I think this is too long for a wedding speech and would be both awkward and a little inconsiderate to our other guests, but I don’t know how to talk to her about it without her shutting down or getting upset/get feelings hurt. Any ideas?

2024.05.14 01:27 No_Walrus_3638 Share personal experiences for support and understanding.

I have created this for the very same reason many create community groups. I want to form a tight community that helps people understand their brain as well as help their loved ones understand their condition. This has come from personal experience and how my wife, in the beginning, would dismiss my suspicion as "every one experiences that once in a while".
Not realizing how often I would seem disconnected, or uninterested which would come out as me ignoring her. In any case welcome. This maybe a rough start as I have trouble keeping up with every day tasks and now I am starting this... Oh boy, what am I doing to myself.
Also please do not correct the grammar on folks. I suck at commas. So I just period the shit out of what I write. Not the best for college papers, but hey, gets the job done. I'm in a bachelors program on my last year as of today 5/13/24.
This description or whatever this is considered will change over time as will the rules. Probably, maybe. I'll try my best.
First set of rules.
That's all I got this far. Feel free to suggest.

Nah, don't flatter yourself. You aren't known in Russia
Abstract
(add)
Overview
Comment from here:
Nah, don't flatter yourself. You aren't known in Russia.
See the following:
You will see that I’m cited in about a dozen or more Russian articles, beginning in A51 (2006).
Anyway, it is not “myself”, e.g. you will see that my legal name is reverse anagram for Bill Smith, aka “American John Doe”, which means “anonymous”, that I am concerned about, rather, I thought or envisioned that people in Russia were debating the HumanMolecule or HumanChemistry views possibly form some manuscript I written or given to Georgi Gladyshev?
The following script dialogue, written by Andrew Walker, key terms bolded, exemplifies the situation well:
  • Somerset: Who are you, John? Who are you really?
  • John Doe: What do you mean?
  • Somerset: Well, I mean, at this stage, what harm can it do to tell us a bit about yourself?
  • John Doe: Doesn't matter who I am. Who I am means absolutely nothing. (conversationally) You need to stay on your left up here.
This “who I am means nothing” resonates with me well.
  • Mills: So where are we heading?
  • John Doe: You'll see.
  • Mills: We're not just going to pick up two more dead bodies, are we, John? That wouldn't be shocking enough. You've got newspapers to think about, yeah?
  • John Doe: Wanting people to listen...you can't just...tap them on the shoulder anymore. You have to hit them with a sledgehammer. Then you'll notice you've got their strict attention.
  • Mills: But the question is: what makes you so special that people should listen?
  • John Doe: I'm not special. I've never been exceptional. This is, though. What I'm doing. My work.
This is the key section. The “work” that is being done is exceptional, not me. “When a force moves a body through a unit distance, work is done” (Clausius, On the Mechanical Theory of Heat (pg. 1), 76A (1879) English translation by Water Browne). To understand this, which I‘m sure you won’t, you have to understand that the force that moves us to do or perform work, comes from “behind us”, the same way it does for chemicals in a heated ☀️ chemistry 🧪 beaker. All of this was explained in JohannGoethe’s novel ElectiveAffinities.
Once I had read this novel, in A51 (2006), after I had already calculated the 26-element formula (A47/2002) for HumanMolecule, presently cited at Harvard’s BioNumbers here (standard) and here (empirical), and drafted a 3-volume Human Thermodynamics “manuscript”, I decided or rather could “feel” that it was my duty to Goethe to write the world’s fist HumanChemistry textbook, published in A52 (2007).
Now, to clarify, having already noted that Goethe said the following: “not many kinds words were vouchsafed me about that [ ElectiveAffinities, 146A/1809] novel” on 18 Jan 127A (1827), 18–years after his novel was published, at the age of 78, I very clearly realized that I was writing to or rather “for the future”, and tried to write ✍️ each page of Human Chemistry to be readable to minds existive a 1,000-years from now. Compare: TheParty.
  • Somerset: Your work, John?
  • John Doe: Yes.
  • Mills: See, I...I don't...I don't see anything special about it, John.
  • John Doe: That's not true.
  • Mills: No, it is true. And the funny thing is, all this work...two months from now, no one's gonna care, no one's gonna give a shit. No one's gonna remember.
This one resonates also well with me. I’m sure that if you were speaking freely, you would tell me the same thing, such as: “no one gives a shit about your human molecule, human chemistry, or HumanChemThermo theories in Russia!”
Certainly this may very well be true, particularly for russian language sub members, who likely have never stepped foot in a science classroom.
The point, however, is that the “work” Goethe did, in writing ✍️ ElectiveAffinities (146A/1809), and the “work” I did in writing the 818-page two-volume ✍️ Human Chemistry (A52/2007), and the “work” that American chemical engineer William Fairburn did in writing his 55-page booklet Human Chemistry (41A/1914), which discusses the “entropy” of reactive “human chemical elements”, aka person = HumanMolecule, and the “work” that Kevin Walker did in writing ✍️ the novel turned film) Seven (A40/1995), with which we are now employing in conversation, is something that is “conserved” in the universe, according to Clausius.
This “conservation” of work, however, is something that I’m sure you will never understand, because your mindset is predisposed to defining me as “rude and entitled“ and I guess a nobody in Russia?
Yet if we compare the same question, about letter origin, asked in the previous 5-days, at the following three language subs: learn_arabic, German, Syriac, visually summarized here, we will see that I we have very polite and respectful dialogue.
The problem with your Russian sub, presumably, is that because my photo was shown in the article along side of: Euler, Poincare, Willard Gibbs, Nikolay Bogolyubov (Никола́й Боголю́бов), Lars Onsager, Euler, Sadi Carnot, and Clausius, it set the mood off wrong, resulting in everyone attacking me?
  • John Doe: You can't see the whole complete act yet. But when this is done... when it's finished...it's gonna be... People will barely be able to comprehend. But they won't be able to deny.
  • Mills: Could the freak be any more vague? I mean, as far as master plans go, John--
I‘m sure you will like to call me a freak too? But as to “you can’t see the whole complete act yet”, this is the situation with the typical person. That most people, aside from a great minds like HenryAdams, cannot “see” 👀 the complete act yet, is evidenced by the fact that there is one member of the ElectiveAffinities sub, launched: 3 May A69 (2024).
In short, the work that I am doing now, and the work that Goethe did 215-years ago, or the work that Nietzsche did 146-years ago, in his Human, All Too Human, aphorism #1, shown below, is work produced by a “force” that only the future, possibly centuries from now, but more likely a millennia from now, will come to realize, as self-evident.
Visual of the future view of things:

Nietzsche Human, All Too Human
German English
Chemie der Begriffe und Empfindungen Chemistry and the Notion of the Feelings
Die historische Philosophie dagegen, welche gar nicht mehr getrennt von der Naturwissenschaft zu denken ist, die allerjüngste aller philosophischen Methoden, ermittelte in einzelnen Fällen (und vermuthlich wird diess in allen ihr Ergebniss sein), dass es keine Gegensätze sind, ausser in der gewohnten Übertreibung der populären oder metaphysischen Auffassung und dass ein Irrthum der Vernunft dieser Gegenüberstellung zu Grunde liegt: Philosophical problems, in almost all their aspects, present themselves in the same interrogative formula now as they did two thousand years ago: how can a thing develop out of its antithesis, e.g. the reasonable from the non-reasonable, the "animate from the inanimate" ["sentient in the dead", Hollingdale (1986)], the logical from the illogical, altruism from egoism, disinterestedness from greed, truth from error? The metaphysical philosophy formerly steered itself clear of this difficulty to such extent as to repudiate the evolution of one thing from another and to assign a miraculous origin to what it deemed highest and best, due to the very nature and being of the "thing-in-itself." The historical philosophy, on the other hand, which can no longer be viewed apart from physical science, the youngest of all philosophical methods, discovered experimentally (and its results will probably always be the same) that there is no antithesis whatever, except in the usual exaggerations of popular or metaphysical comprehension, and that an error of the reason is at the bottom of such contradiction.
— There is, strictly speaking, neither unselfish conduct, nor a wholly disinterested point of view. Both are simply sublimations in which the basic element seems almost evaporated and betrays its presence only to the keenest observation. All that we need and that could possibly be given us in the present state of development of the sciences, is a chemistry of the ‘moral’, ‘religious’, ‘aesthetic’ conceptions and feeling, as well as of those emotions which we experience in the affairs, great and small, of society and civilization, and which we are sensible of even in solitude. But what if this chemistry established the fact that, even in its domain, the most magnificent results were attained with the basest and most despised ingredients? Would many feel disposed to continue such investigations? Mankind loves to put by the questions of its origin and beginning: must one not be almost inhuman in order to follow the opposite course?”
To repeat, and conclude, my reply to this Russian languages sub member:
All that we need and that could possibly be given us in the present state of development of the sciences, is a chemistry of the ‘moral’, ‘religious’, ‘aesthetic’ conceptions and feeling, as well as of those emotions which we experience in the affairs, great and small, of society and civilization, and which we are sensible of even in solitude.”
Friedrich Nietzsche (77A/1878), Human, All Too Human (§: Aphorism #1)
The day that people of the future, teach, as standard required learning, the following subjects:
  1. Moral chemistry
  2. Religious chemistry
  3. Aesthetic chemistry
  4. Emotional chemistry
  5. Feelings chemistry
  6. Social chemistry
Is the day that force, behind the “work” of Goethe, Nietzsche, Adams, Fairburn, and myself, will be realized.
The year this occurs will be when Goethe’s OTT cipher (or Otto cipher) becomes accepted common knowledge.
Horus years?
I will but note, however, that we still are dating our calendar years to the birth of Horus (aka Jesus), the solar 🌞 falcon god, who dates back more than 5,000 years, to attested to via the 5700A (-3745) solar Milky Way cow yoke HeiroType: ∩ = 10 (I).

Thus, who knows, maybe in 5,000 years from now, if we remain in the “dark ages”, St. Ottilia “blind ages” as Goethe says we are now presently in, we will still be dating our calendar years to this same solar falcon god?

It's possible that Aaravos is manipulating Karim through Pharos which why I wanted to ask something. How do you think Aaravos will write of Karim as pathetic or give him a reason you suck speech? Or at the very least, why do you guys think Karim is an idiot and why his plans don't/won't work?

2024.05.14 01:02 Background-Cap7257 AITAH for getting frustrated with my dad about my yearbook photo.

Hello! I am asian american and 15 years old, a sophomore in high school, and today we just got out yearbooks for the school year.
To preface this conversation, my self confidence has been on a downward spiral recently as I notice more and more flaws about myself. This has been going on for a few months and my parents are aware of this. My mom, also understanding my struggles, has tried to help me be more positive; she even told me that I started to look prettier because I was happier. My father and I usually have a lot of conversation about my daily life and struggles where I have told him that I like honesty - which I guess I regret a bit now. However, he has told me that he has a high EQ and a great sense of social awareness, so I assumed that would apply to most cases. When I told him about my insecurities, he kept telling me to just "be confident" and that if an average looking person like me wasn't satisfied with my looks, then how could the ugly people live. Looking back, I understand his statement, but in my state of self loathing, I wouldn't let his words through. But still, after his "pep talk," I still kept degrading myself and would look sullen because of this. I would even cry everyday because of how much I hated my looks - both my parents knew somewhat of what I was going through. From time to time, my dad would also comment on my attitude since I was pretty negative during that time (I will admit, I was the AH during those encounters). Recently, however, I am glad to say that I am slowly recovering and experimenting with makeup to enhance my looks.
Sorry for the long FYI, on to the story. When he picked me up from school today I showed him my yearbook picture, and I joked how I kinda looked like a boy (the picture was taken at the beginning of the year, so I look quite different as my acne had cleared up). After saying that, he said how I should stop parting my hair and just put it up in a ponytail without a part. I will admit that this next part may be my fault, but I got a little frustrated and in an annoyed tone, I told him that I know I shouldn't part my hair (he had told me when I was feeling down) and that I can't change the past of when I took the yearbook picture. I also forgot to add that both my father and I are ill-tempered (like father-like daughter I guess). So when I was agitated, he got mad saying that since I showed him, he was going to say something and that he couldn't say nothing. He proceeded to throw the book to an empty seat and angrily drove off. For the rest of the car ride, we didn't talk.
When we got home, I was trying to be a better person (compared to before) so I called out to my mom, trying to hide my anger, for dinner. The moment my mouth blurted out a sound, my dad starts angrily scolding me, saying how he hated my attitude and that if I was so "amazing" why don't I make my own money and do my own things. He said that he and my mom had done so much for me as to attend a great high school and that they had keep working when they could've already retired. He noted that if I was in a family of 5 (referencing to one of our family friends) that no one would care about me. He said that he had spent countless nights unable to sleep thinking about my college app (which I truly am grateful for, but I never implied that I wanted him to do so much work. I will also note, he does go to the extreme, sometimes). He continued to rant about the same things and others along similar lines before he stormed out.
I ran to the bathroom crying. I had a panic attack which made me start to overthink. And I don't know if I'm in teh wrong.
More things I want to point out (sorry for writing so much) is that my dad always tells me how "he's not like other asian parents," and in a sense, he is different, but at the same time, I'm starting to wonder if he is a narcisist. Funny enough, he was the one who introdcued me to a youtube channel about dealing with narcisists (Dr. Ramani). I googled narcisist anger symptoms and other signs of narcisim and I guess they match up, for the most part. I also felt like he was gaslighting me during his rebuke, but I may also be victimizing myself.
I mainly just want identification on my situation and what I should do about it for the next 2 years before I go to college. (if you need anymore information I will gladly provide it).
Thank you! - I was in a rush, so I apologize for grammar or spelling errors.

2024.05.14 01:01 Plenty-Problem50 My Friends Treated me Badly and I Dumped them

I don't really know whether to call this AITA, WIBTA, or petty revenge, but it's a fun story. Also, it is a little long, so I apologize. I (F18), am in my first year of college. I have stayed friends with a group of 4 other girls since age 16 when our friend group founded. I haven't been as close to them recently, but I'm wondering if I'm just over reacting. (BTW, I went an all girls school, so no boy drama).
When I was 16, I was new to my school. It wasn't a super welcoming environment and I was quite unpopular. Introducing Eliza. She calls herself my first friend, but I was actually originally friends with a girl who is insignificant in this story. I clung to Eliza in my first 5 months at school, as I was scared and had never been new to a school before. After a while, Eliza informed me that another girl, Venom, thought I was "stealing her away". I was pretty shocked. However, I starting hanging out with her less and less.
Venom wasn't the only one. Willa, another friend of Eliza was also jealous of me. I was partnered with her for a group project, and we got along quite well. By 2/3 of the way into the school year, we had chosen to sit together in snack, meaning we would have to see each other each day for 15 minutes for a month (we got pick our seats but after we picked, we couldn't move). After the first month, we always chose to sit together. I remember Eliza approaching me and asking if we were friends. Not too long after, SIX formed. This was our friend group name, though there was only 5 of us.
When the friend group formed, I mostly knew of Alex by reputation. She was kind, caring, shy, and in all ways the opposite of a high school mean girl. She was also very smart. The friend group formed because we all loved writing, mystery, violence, and fun. We immediately became close knit, something I didn't realize was so toxic until this year. I remember when we started letting people in it caused drama and Willa said "It's better just the 5 of us." We became so close because we came together to start an etsy store together. Anyways, either right before SIX founded or right after, I was partnered with Alex by the same teacher who started me and Willa's friendship. We bonded and I really enjoyed her company.
By the end of 11th grade, I had a close knit group and people who I believed cared about me. I haven't mentioned the fifth one yet, but nothing significant happened between us until this year. We most hung out of nesecity.
12 grade was mostly uneventful. In fall, SIX disbanded, as Alex though running a business was too dramatic and hard for seniors. We stayed friends, but it marked the end of an era in our friendship. Next, I will go over all the toxic encounters I have had with these people from 12 grade and the start of college, as well as why I dumped them and my petty revenge.
Eliza:
She tends to be distant and uses information to manipulate and show favor. Stills, she is overall the best in the group. She could easily be manipulating us all. She's also jealous when I talk to anyone not in SIX. Like all my "friends" she always took Mary's side in every argument.
Willa:
She said "If I wasn't friends with you, no one would like you." She also told me she uses all her friends. She also uses information to manipulate and show favor. She is jealous when I talk to anyone not in SIX. and of course, she always took Mary's side in every argument
Alex:
She set too high of an expectation of perfection. She gossips about Willa and Eliza to me. She also lied to my face about something, which made me question if she was lying about other things. She never cared when I was upset or sad and never asked if I was ok. No surprise, the queen of perfect also always took Mary's side in every argument.
Mary:
We became friends by gossiping about how annoying Alex is and stuff. She is very judgy and we never got along well. She was going through a lot but never saw that I was going through similar things.
Okay, so that was the backstory. I apologize again for how long it was. It all came out when we were going to a party this year. On the bus I was texting a friend from before I went to the school I met them at. She had heard all my concerns because she doesn't know these people and when I told her I was sitting next to Eliza and Willa she said "They're such bitches." she quickly unsent it and said "I hate them for being so mean to u", but the damage was done. Willa saw the text was really mad and upset. However, we moved past it and Mary and Alex stole mt hair ties. I chased them around, though I was actually annoyed and just wanted my things back. I got one back and then took one of Mary's until she gave mine back. She yelled at me because Alex had taken mine and I told her that they had hidden it together nad she could give it back. Five seconds later, she's so sad because she just wanted it back, and we are screaming at each other. Alex comes to ask me my side of the story and says "Oh don't worry Mary isn't mad at you, she just feels bad for you because everyone hates you." and "Oh I should leave, I don't want Mary to be suspicious I'm talking to you." I laughed both of these of but was actually pretty hurt. I went home soon after and I haven't talked to Mary or Alex since. Both of tried to contact me but I haven't responded.
Ok so recently I had an idea. I need to know if it's too petty. So I mentioned we all like writing. All of us (except Willa) have been writing a story that is 80 ish pages now. I haven't written on it in a while because I wanted to give Mary and Alex space but recently I noticed that the characters are based on us. I, of course, am the villain. It isn't based on real events so it's not like things I've done, just a girl with my name being evil. I noticed that I'm the owner and I'm wondering if I would be justified to remove all of them from it. I know it's evil, but they treated me badly and even my friend, who showed me a lot of ways I'm in the wrong in the past said that I should do it. I know it would be evil, but I want some kind of revenge. Would it be worth it? Any other times I'm in the wrong that I haven't noticed? Please let me know.
TL;DR:
I have been friends with a group of 4 girls since age 16, but I haven't been as close to them recently. I experienced different forms of toxic behavior with each friend in 11th and 12th grades, including their always taking Mary's side in every argument. We got into a petty argument about when I took back her hair ties from Mary and Alex after they stole them. Mary also said everyone hates me. So, am I justified in removing them from a story they have been writing together because they feel that they have been portraying me as the villain? I am considering this as a form of revenge for being treated badly by my friends. I am also seeking feedback on any wrongdoings I may have committed in this story.
Thank you so much for reading!

2024.05.14 00:42 throwaway3434xyz Trying to uphold my ethics (school setting)

Hi fellow SLPs, I’m in a really tough place and wanted to seek advice. Pronouns have been changed to protect the privacy of the student. Sorry if this is long-winded, I have a lot to think about.
This is my first year working in public schools. I work with a population of students with complex, high support needs. Mostly AAC, ID, autism, ASL. So far, I’ve had really collaborative parents. They’ve been so open to round table discussion. Lately, I’ve been butting heads against parents who still want to keep their kids in the sub-separate classroom or in therapy services when it is not indicated anymore. I feel this is a denial of FAPE and LRE.
One particular student (ASL is their first language, Deaf+) I’ve had this year has met all their goals (they only had one). The story I got from their staff was that the parent wanted to keep them in speech so they can learn to “speak.” My student has expressed within my speech sessions early on in the year that they do not want to speak. Their language is ASL and they are part of Deaf culture. Their ASL interpreters have affirmed my confusion about why we were working on an “maintaining pragmatic skills via interpreting figurative language” goal when that type of language gets lost in translation. However, they have done spectacular carrying over skills given exposure to figurative language and background knowledge (e.g., Translation of English idioms to ASL, teaching of figures of speech via video examples in ASL) and teaching it back in their own words in ASL. Staff have mentioned their previous SLP expressed frustration about how S/L services have not been appropriate for a while. Previous triennial testing indicated that they could not finish certain tests (e.g. GFTA-3) because they expressed they had a hard time producing sounds.
In a recent meeting for this student’s new IEP, the parent rejected the IEP because I proposed moving to a consult model. Student has met all goals, there are no language or pragmatic concerns, but the parent said they need to stay in speech because “(student) expressed they love speech” and the parent has concerns about communication outside of school in the community. These communication breakdowns occur in unfamiliar places (e.g., not paying attention to surroundings, eloping, not using the restroom or eating in unfamiliar places)…but would this not be a behavioral/psych target if their increased anxiety results in these concerns?
I do not want to give up on this student and want to support them the best I can. I do not think they will continue to benefit from direct therapy (plus having a TOD/ABA on top of speech in the mainstream classroom would be A LOT for this kid who already has anxiety and is a budding teenager who is intelligent and aware of their differences). I have loved and thoroughly enjoyed working with them. Of course I don’t want to let them go - I would work with them forever if I could. I just do not want to overstep my expertise. The student has expressed that they enjoy speech a lot, but this is not a reason to keep them in speech and I feel it is unethical (violation of LRE). Yes, I can target utilization of alternative means to communicate with hearing peers and adults in the community (I already baselined some data and student has fantastic communication repair skills, communicated beautifully via writing and typing). Student already uses the phone to communicate via text with adults and friends.
My ultimate concern is why the team is stepping around this issue to appease the parent when this is no longer in my domain of expertise? Yes, I can work on this skill via a push-in model, but to stretch it a whole year (like the current goal) when they already demonstrate the foundational communication skills at baseline? In addition, student expressed that communication needs in the community setting (e.g., ordering at a restaurant) are done by their family (hearing individuals). In order for this goal to have any impact (again, I am only a school SLP) the student needs the room and opportunity to be independent communicating with hearing individuals outside of the school in order to carryover this skill…
Honestly, I feel like I would be wasting their Medicaid, keeping the student in a more restrictive environment, and we are stuck in the same cycle again.
I appreciate whatever input I get deeply. Thank you for reading.
Note: Using my non-personal account for privacy reasons.

2024.05.14 00:31 We_Need_True_Leaders What does it say about their program?

Vent/Rant.
Just received my “we’ve decided to explore other candidates…” dear John letter (email) from SNHU for an adjunct slot. Here are just a few of my qualifications:
GRADUATE of SNHU (same exact program even..) with a perfect 4.0 GPA. President’s List EVERY semester. A FINALIST (1 of 5 out of more than 100) to deliver the COMMENCEMENT SPEECH at SNHU. SNHU Distinguished Graduate award.
A Masters Degree in the same program from Johns Hopkins University- where I AGAIN earned a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Five years of teaching adults - both classroom and field.
First-generation college graduate. 27-year military vet. Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Commander. (all of which equips me to help first-gen and military personnel navigate and succeed in a college setting)
Ten Years of actual boots on the ground experience in the field of study.
Letter of Recommendation from the DIRECTOR of my program at Johns Hopkins.
Published author.
Trust me, the list of quals goes on.
So what does it say about SNHU when one of their own absolutely crushes it by all accounts and then can’t even get a frickin look for a gig that pays for shit???
I mean wtaf? Do you have to cure cancer or something? What are these universities doing???
Tells me exactly how much SNHU values their degree programs.
Beer.
F-it… Whiskey!

2024.05.14 00:26 Sparky_skiies Got my med school results today, the result was nice but the reactions weren't.

Today I got my Med school results of 2nd proff. I passed it. Good enough grades. A little backstory to it :
I've always been a decent student. I always go overboard in making things good academically cause I never want to end up being a disappointment. I do all the classes, attend lectures, and study my level best. From school up until my college life, I've been doing good enough. I am not bragging at all just laying down the situation here. So, my exams were in March. I've studied and hustled for the entire year for these exams, but I don't know how and why, my exams didn't go well as compared to the efforts and energy I gave in to it. Every single morning before going to attend the exam, I would always end up crying while revising. It was truly just a bad, very bad phase. Somehow, the exams got over. Fast forward to the days ahead, when I told people around me, including my friends and parents that I expect something bad in the result and that I didn't do as good as I expected it all to be.
No one, not even a single person agreed and accepted. Not even ONE. Everyone was like, “you can do it. Ofcourse if you wouldn't do, who else? You've always been this way. We know you can do.” I actually can't explain and write the exact sentences, but all I wanted was someone to just understand what I meant, what I have in my head. I don't understand why academically good students always are laid down with this image that they can never ever have a bad phase, bad day, bad exams? Why? Aren't we humans? I'm not talking about those who brag unnecessarily. I'm talking about the ones who genuinely do for others and this one time confessed that they aren't expecting anything good this time, that they didn't do well. That they had bad exams and all their efforts ended up in vain.
I'm close to my dad. Enough close that I call him every single minute if I'm panicking. The entire exam time, I used to tell and talk to him. During exams, I told him that my exams aren't going well and that I'm still trying my level best. Everything that I can do. He was supportive. I love him for that. Same with my mom.
Right after exams, when I told them and talked to any of my friends or my dad or mom about results, they would shrug it off like, “let it be” “it's okay” “nothing's wrong” “stop overthinking” “you're a good student, if you wouldn't have good grades, who else will?” “if you're saying this then what will happen to us who don't study as well as you?” Bro I'm tired of this generalisation.
When I say I'm tired. I genuinely am. My results got out today, finally. I did well. I passed :)
The point that I was so happy and people killed my excitement. Some started talking about how I didn't get a top 10 rank. I called my dad first. The very first person. He simply said, “congrats.” Not a single word. He knew everything, my panic, my random urgent calls cause I was going numb while preparing. But all he did was a bland reaction. He instructed me to call my mom then all my relatives (pretty simply my relatives are hella toxic, and negative people. They kill off the vibe.)
I called mom. Same reaction. “congrats!” “did you get the marks too?" And the next minute the topic was about her side of the family and what all she did in her day. Okay. Accepted. Never mind.
Next I called my relatives, one of them said “oh wow good news. Good good.” That's it.
Onto the next, I called her. She said, “oh you finally remember me? Oh so you got your results that's why you could remember me?” :))))))
I was telling my friends, but they all kept repeating like, “if you (my name) would've been failed, then what would've happened to us? Oh come on, stop acting like this. Stop lying. Stop pretending. We knew you were gonna do well.”
Enough y'all.
I didn't need attention. I just want to say that I just wanted a little time to process. I wanted people to understand that this was really an unexpected good result and I was genuinely happy with it. I wanted people to treat me and my result that way. Why can't academically decent people have their share of bad days without people always generalising them that they can never have/ never had seen failures?
I'm writing this while I'm in my hostel room, my best friend is soundly sleeping, probably with just the idea of the dried out responses of my family and nothing else. It's me, my playlist and this rant I'm writing right now. I'm probably not going to sleep at all tonight, will rather have my alone time and process it alone than expecting reactions from people without making me feel like, “oh? You're pass? We already knew. Why is it a big deal for you eh?” Fuck this. It's a big deal for me. I'll manage, process, accept and enjoy on my own.
Thanks to anyone who read this. Have a good day <3

2024.05.14 00:24 PM_ME_YOUR_XMAS_CARD The Aristocrats, by ChatGPT4o

A man walks into a talent agent's office and says, "Have I got an act for you! It's a family act.'" The agent says, "Okay, I'm listening. What do they do?"
The man starts, "First, the father, Donald, comes out. He kicks things off by boasting about grabbing women by their privates because, as he says, his celebrity status lets him do whatever he wants. Then he mocks a disabled reporter, flailing his arms in a grotesque imitation. He incites violence at his rallies, encouraging his supporters to 'knock the crap' out of protesters. He calls for a complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States. Behind him, screens show clips of him separating children from their parents at the border, dismissing COVID-19 as a hoax while thousands die, and making comments about how if Ivanka weren't his daughter, he might be dating her. "Then his daughter, Ivanka, steps in. She’s promoting her fashion line, which is made in sweatshops overseas. She stands by her father as he calls neo-Nazis 'very fine people,' and she defends his policies on social media while trying to rebrand herself as a champion for women and families. Her husband's failed Middle East peace plans and misuse of federal resources for personal gain play on the screen behind her.
"Next, Donald Jr. and Eric Trump join in. Donald Jr. starts by boasting about their big game hunting expeditions, proudly displaying photos of themselves with endangered animals they've killed. Eric, looking disheveled and twitchy, brags about funneling money from Trump charity events into the family business and echoes his father's conspiracy theories about rigged elections and political enemies. The screen shows headlines about their shady business deals, ongoing investigations into their financial practices, and rumors about Eric's cocaine use. "Melania, Donald's wife, makes an appearance, delivering a speech about anti-bullying that’s a blatant rip-off of Michelle Obama's. She stands silently next to Donald as he boasts about his sexual exploits and pays off porn stars, her stoic demeanor barely hiding her disdain. The screen flashes images of her wearing a jacket that says 'I really don't care, do u?' while visiting detained children at the border.
"Finally, the youngest, Barron, walks in, seemingly oblivious to the chaos around him. He’s on his phone, playing games, while the rest of the family descends into a chaotic shouting match, each trying to outdo the other in self-aggrandizement and offensive rhetoric. Screens show the endless stream of tweets, lies, and scandals that have defined their time in the public eye. "As the act culminates, the whole family stands together in front of a backdrop of a gaudy, gold-plated Trump Tower facade. They strike a triumphant pose, surrounded by a whirlwind of lawsuits, impeachment trials, and global condemnation. The crowd is left in stunned silence, unsure if what they saw was real or some elaborate satire."
The agent, flabbergasted, asks, "What do you call this act?"
The man grins and says, "The Aristocrats!"

2024.05.14 00:19 Agreeable_Salad7448 Apostle Paul vs Prophet Muhammad

DISCLAIMER: This respectful and civil debate is oriented towards muslims. For the sake of the moderators time and also the readers I will only list 5 problems I've found. But don't worry I have 20 more to post if this post has more traffic!
According to the Quran, Jesus was a prophet of Islam, his followers were Muslims and the gospel is the inspired preserved authoritative word of Allah. But when we go to our earliest records, we find Jesus claiming to be the Divine Son of God who would die on the cross for sins and rise from the dead. Jesus followers proclaimed him as their Risen Lord, the gospel that Christians have been reading for nearly 2,000 years tells us that "Anyone who claims to be a prophet, rejects Jesus death, resurrection and deity is a false prophet and an antichrist" - 1 John 2:22, a verse to remember.
Problem 1. Earlier Records for Paul's Life than for Muhammad's Life - Our records of Paul's life are much earlier than our records of Muhammad's life. And here I don't just mean that Paul came centuries before Muhammad and so we have earlier sources for Paul's life, I mean that when we talk about the teachings and deeds of Paul the biographical sources we use are much closer to the events they report than the biographical sources we use when we talk about the teachings and deeds of Muhammad. Our earliest biographical sources on Paul were written during the lifetime of Paul. The book of Acts for example was written in the early 60s before Paul was martyred, and it was written by a traveling companion of Paul who was an eyewitness to many of the details he reports. We also have numerous letters written by Paul himself. Our earliest detailed biographical source on Muhammad is the sirah (biographical literature), especially the work of Ibn Ishaq (d. 768) which was written more than a century after Muhammad's death. And we don't even have what Ibn Ishaq actually wrote. We have an Abridged version that was sanitized by a later scholar and we shouldn't forget that many Muslims don't trust Ibn Ishaq. When Muslims quote stories about Muhammad, they're usually getting their information from sources like Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, which were written two centuries after the time of Muhammad.
Problem 1.1. But it gets worse... The main reason for composing works like Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim was that Muslims were composing so many false stories about Muhammad, people didn't know what to believe. Scholars like Bukari decided that they needed to collect stories they thought were accurate in order to distinguish them from the ever increasing supply of false narrations. Now if Muslims during the time of Bukhari were inventing stories about Muhammad, what about the generation before that, and the generation before that..? And the generation before that? Two centuries is a lot of time to make things up, that's why it's always good to have sources written within the lifetime of the person you want to know about or at least within the lifetimes of the eyewitnesses. When we learn about Paul we learn about him through first generation eyewitness accounts. When we learn about Muhammad, we learn about him through late sources written by people who didn't know him, whose parents didn't know him and whose grandparents didn't know him. People who were fishing for historical facts in a sea of fabrication and deception. A few years ago the crumbling historical foundations for the life of Muhammad led the Islamic scholar Muhammad Sven Kalisch to conclude that Muhammad probably never existed. I don't agree with Dr Kalisch's conclusion about Muhammad's existence, but when even Muslim Scholars are starting to recognize how difficult it's become to take Muslim sources seriously our confidence in the historical Muhammad vanishes.
Problem 2. Paul Was a brillian scholar; Muhammad Was Not - The Apostle Paul was a brilliant scholar who defended his views in Athens, the intellectual capital of the ancient world, and in other major cities. He had discussions with the Stoic and Epicurian philosophers of his day and he could quote their sources to them. Even Anthony Flu, one of the 20th Century's most impressive critics of Christianity, said that the Apostle Paul possessed a first class philosophical mind. Muhammad by contrast was an illiterate 7th Century Caravan Trader. Now being an illiterate 7th Century Caravan Trader doesn't make you wrong, just as being a brilliant scholar doesn't make you right. But when we're dealing with claims about history and theology and various other topics having some sort of education helps. Not having an education leaves you open to obviously false revelations because you don't know enough to recognize them as false. This is why we find Muhammad telling his followers that Dhul-Qarnain traveled so far west he found the place where the sun sets, and that stars are missile that Allah uses to shoot demons, and that semen is formed between the backbone and the ribs. These are exactly the sort of absurdities we would expect from someone who has no clue what he's talking about, and who therefore has no clue whether his revelations line up with reality.
Problem 3. Paul knew the Old Testament; Muhammad Did Not - The Apostle Paul was a Pharisee who studied under Rabban Gamaliel II, one of the greatest Jewish rabbis of the first century. Paul knew the Old Testament inside and out which is why he quotes the Old Testament so frequently in his writings. This is important because Jesus claimed to fulfill a variety of Old Testament prophecies and you can't really examine this claim if you don't know what the Old Testament says. Muhammad was almost completely ignorant of the Old Testament because his knowledge of the Jewish scriptures was limited to what he heard in conversations. Not surprisingly despite Muhammad's numerous interactions with Jews in Arabia the Quran contains very few quotations from the Old Testament. Due to his ignorance of the scriptures Muhammad couldn't tell the difference between stories that were in the Torah and therefore divine revelation and stories from later Jewish writings and commentaries some of which were so late and so obviously fabricated they weren't far beyond the level of bedtime stories. Imagine how amusing it must be for someone who specializes in Jewish literature, to read the Quran and find so many fables being presented to Muslims as Revelation. Cain being taught how to bury the dead by a raven (al-Ma`idah (The Table, The Table Spread) 5:31), Solomon listening to a speech by an ant (Surah An-Naml - 15-25). But Muhammad just didn't know enough to distinguish scripture from non-scripture. Muhammad's ignorance of the Old Testament is also noteworthy because, like Jesus, he claimed to fulfill Old Testament prophecies. If Muhammad had been more knowledgeable of the Torah, he would have known that he couldn't possibly be a prophet for numerous reasons. For instance:
Problem 3.1 Muslim sources report that Muhammad once delivered what are now called "The Satanic Verses" to his followers. These verses promoted prayers to three pagan goddesses, Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza and Manat (Surah 53:19-20). Muhammad bowed down in honor of these polytheistic verses and his followers bowed down with him. But a little later Gabriel confronted Muhammad about his sin, Muhammad confessed in the history of AT-TABARI 6:111. So Muhammad admitted that he delivered a revelation that didn't really come from God. Why is this important? Well in Deuteronomy 18:20 "God declares but a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods is to be put to death".
Problem 3.2 Muslims claim that they respect Moses, but if Muhammad had delivered "The Satanic Verses" during the time of Moses, Moses would have ordered the people to pick up stones and stone him to death as the most obvious false prophet in history. Muhammad didn't realize this due to his lack of familiarity with the Jewish scriptures.
Problem 4. Paul Was a Contemporary of Jesus Muhammad was not - The apostle Paul was a contemporary of Jesus and he spent much of his time in first century Israel, this put Paul in a perfect position to gain accurate historical information about Jesus. If you want reliable information about a person it's pretty helpful being a member of the person's own generation. And Paul was right there. Muhammad was born more than half a millennium after Jesus death in a completely different country. Since he couldn't read, apart from Divine Revelation his knowledge of Jesus was limited to whatever stories were popular in 7th Century Arabia. This is why when we read the Quran we find so many stories about Jesus that are known to be forgeries. Mary giving birth under a palm tree Surah Maryam - 16-26, Jesus preaching when he was still a baby Surat Maryam [19:29-34], Jesus giving life to clay birds Surah Al-Ma'idah - 110. We know where these stories come from, and they don't come from the first century.
Problem 5. Paul Spoke the Relevant Lanugaes Muhammad Didn't - The Apostle Paul was fluent in Hebrew Aramaic and Greek. All of the languages necessary for understanding the Old Testament, the claims of Jesus and the earliest Christian writings. Muhammad couldn't speak any of the relevant languages so any attempt to understand the Old Testament, the claims of Jesus, or the earliest Christian writings would have required the help of interpreters. I normally wouldn't bring this up as a problem, but since Muslims are obsessed with reading the Quran in the original Arabic, we can only assume that the writings of Moses, the teachings of Jesus and the writings of Jesus followers can only be understood in the original languages. Paul could do that, Muhammad couldn't. Muhammad's ignorance of the original languages leads to further problems: For example the Quran refers to the book revealed through, Jesus as the "Injil", but the Arabic word Injil is ultimately derived from the Greek word "Evangelion" meaning good news. So according to the Quran the book, revealed through Jesus was written in Greek, this makes absolutely no sense if Jesus was only sent to his fellow Jews as Islam claims, but it makes perfect sense if Jesus message was for the rest of the world as well since Greek was the international language of the time. Interestingly the New Testament gospels were written in Greek, exactly what we would expect given the quran's use of the term Injil, but quite unexpected given Muhammad's notion of Jesus life and mission, not to mention Muhammad's conviction that Revelations can't be translated. Quite hypocritical indeed.

2024.05.14 00:07 kus0jin Is IT a 'real' field of study?

I remember talking to an interviewer one day and he said he got a Bachelor's Degree in IT. Personally, I believe it'd be more beneficial for a person to study computer science rather than just general information technology in college. The reason why I'm asking this question is because most people (where I'm from) have access to computers and technology at a young age. Basically, everyone from my generation has had hands-on experience with technology since they were a kid.
We already understand how IT systems work, we might not be able to explain it like a professor, but we still just 'get' it, kinda like someone who sucks at writing in their native language but can still speak it. Is an IT degree a thing for the older generations that may not have had access to the technology we do now?

2024.05.14 00:06 tw637 Here we go.

I posted over the weekend about my dad. He’s been bed bound since Saturday night when his right leg was involuntarily extending and retracting slowly for over an hour.
Got in touch with palliative Sunday and today my dad has accepted in home hospice. My uncle is flying out from across the country for a second time to help me since I’m the only one here (bless him - I was so anxious this morning about doing this by myself).
Originally just my dad’s right side was affected. Then on Saturday he could no longer pivot with his good leg. Sunday morning his speech seemed a little off and he’s been falling in and out of sleep with short bursts of being awake.
I fed him some chicken soup and that seems to have helped a little. He wasn’t eating anything solid after Saturday night. Sunday all he wanted was small sips of water and slept almost the entire day.
I had been through this with my mother when she had breast cancer but my dad was the pointman and I was helping out in between classes since I was in community college at the time. Now that I’m in the hotseat I don’t know how to feel. I knew things could get bad fast but it seems like overnight things tanked.
It’s been a little over 3 and a half months since my dad’s first and only surgery. It seemed like a long time at certain parts but it really is no time at all.
I got so much shit running through my head right now. I moved my dad into a new apartment after he was discharged from the hospital because his old place wasn’t fit for someone in his condition. I got a 5-month lease that expires August 1st, 2024. If it gets close to July I may have to get him in a hospice facility in order to move his stuff to a storage unit. I still work from home full time. Have no clue how that’s going to go. I’m just venting out loud at this point.
There’s so much to do.

2024.05.14 00:02 Time_Support9858 Advice for potential CS transfers to UVA

Hello everyone, as a former student of Northern Virginia Community College who successfully transitioned to the University of Virginia to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS), I’d like to share some insights and advice that could be beneficial to you.
Firstly, it’s important to note that UVA offers two distinct Computer Science programs: the BSCS, housed within the Engineering School, and the Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science (BACS), which falls under the Arts and Sciences. While it may seem apparent, it’s worth emphasizing that the BSCS is considerably more challenging than the BACS. This is primarily because the more lenient classes in the BACS curriculum are substituted with rigorous math and science courses in the BSCS, most of which stick strictly to the grading scale (an 89.999, for instance, is a B+) and there are no curves.
However, your personal strengths and interests play a significant role in this decision. Some individuals may find math more manageable than writing or language studies. Additionally, the BSCS program offers a lot of connections, advisors, and career opportunities, while the BACS program provides the flexibility to potentially pursue a double major.
Despite the BACS program having less demanding electives, it still requires the same core CS classes as the BSCS. These classes are not to be underestimated. For instance, CSO1 is considered a weed-out class, with students typically dedicating 20-30 hours each week to this course alone. The average test score for this class usually falls between 65-75%(Keep in mind we are talking about students who are all extremely smart).
NVCC offers an equivalent class, CS205, but in my opinion (and the opinion of most CS professors at UVA), taking this class at NVCC will not adequately prepare you for CSO2 at UVA, currently the most challenging class in the Engineering School. I would, however, recommend taking Linear Algebra at NVCC, as it’s generally easier there. Probability can also be taken at NVCC, but I suggest taking it at UVA. Despite its difficulty, the way it’s taught at UVA is intriguing and ties in well with CS (note that BACS students don’t need these math classes).
One aspect that initially caught me off guard at UVA was the expected level of coding knowledge. Upon enrolling in DSA2, you’re expected to be able to calculate Big O, Big Omega, and Big Theta time complexities, understand how to use various data structures, and know how to utilize lists, hashmaps, etc. I found practicing on LeetCode over the summer to be extremely beneficial. Additionally, being able to read pseudo code is crucial, as professors give you the option to use either Python or Java, and any code discussed in class is presented in pseudo-code.
In conclusion, if you’re seeking a more relaxed experience, consider the BACS program. However, if you’re up for a challenge, the BSCS program might be the right fit for you. Both programs have their unique advantages and challenges. Compared to BACS and NVCC, the workload for BACS is approximately 2-2.5 times greater, and BSCS is 3-3.5 times greater. This might seem daunting, but remember that all the challenging classes have TA office hours almost every day. These TAs genuinely care about your success and are always ready to assist. I strongly recommend seeking their help early on to ensure you complete your assignments correctly. Best of luck on your academic journey!

2024.05.13 23:45 Ok-Current-7558 My teacher showed me my college letter of rec....

Hey guys, I had my math teacher send a letter of recommendation to a summer program I was applying to. He sent the program the letter, and he BCC'd me in it. I saw it and it was pretty good IMO. He said that's most likely the same one he'll use for my colleges and just put the college's name in it. Im curious what you guys think? Should I use it for college letters or go with a different teacher? Is it a good letter, is it Ivy League worthy or anything? Edit: Im a junior rn
Here it is (Sensitive info like my name is XXX out):
To Whom It May Concern: I am writing in enthusiastic support of xxx for entrance into the XXXX Program. XXX has a natural curiosity for all things, though her focus is most often centered in the STEM field. Her dedication to her studies and willingness to take on new challenges will allow her to thrive in the intensive environment that your program provides. XXX was originally a student in my freshman geometry class at the college prep level, but she very quickly showed enough promise that I waived her up to the accelerated level. I was sad to lose a student who was clearly very willing to participate, but we both agreed that it would be the best course of action for her ongoing math education. XXX did join the chess club during her freshman year, for which I am the advisor, so I was thankfully still able to follow her progress and hear her share how proud she was of the work she was doing. XXX has remained in accelerated math throughout high school, which allowed her to take my accelerated precalculus class starting this fall. Even in the higher-level course, XXX remains one of the most active participants in class discussion. She will often ask questions that probe further in-depth than the examples that we have covered, usually resulting in her independently coming to the realization that I’ve been building towards introducing to the class. Our course will cover some calculus material by the end of the year, but that has not stopped XXX from staying after school to ask questions about topics that she will encounter in AP Calculus next year. She has already expressed interest in the idea of derivatives, asking for explanations regarding instantaneous rate of change and its applications in the real world. Outside of the math classroom, XXX is the definition of a model student. Her grades in every class are stellar, even those that are not part of the STEM field, and she is an active participant in several extracurricular activities both in and out of school. She is never seen without a smile on her face and a positive attitude. These qualities all contributed to XXX being named Student of the Month last year, and she has received nominations this year as well. I cannot recommend XXX highly enough for selection to the XXX program. In XXX, the program would be gaining an insightful, curious and open-minded young woman who thrives when presented with a challenge. Her demeanor and affect allow her to develop easy friendships and seamlessly collaborate with anyone around her. She will be an asset to XXX. and to those lucky enough to work with her over the six weeks of the program.

Oh lord I dont want to get into politics. But I am NOT a Trumper. I will say that. I'm a pretty liberal activists and wouldnt be a social worker if I wasnt. But I will say, from a fiscal standpoint I am more conservative as I got older & on my own. And I do recognize that we do better as an economy usually when a republican is president. But thats all Im gonna say about that
[3:52 PM]
Oh god I know. I wish we didnt have to go through these two bafoons again. I want new fresh faces, younger faces with progressive ideas. But I pretty much hate both sides at this moment in time and govt in general

katocean. — 04/04/2024 12:37 PM
What do you think the issue is? Like not placing blame on you or anything... but when you do a deep dive into yourself what issues or things do you think makes it hard for a women to want to pursue anything further with you?
