Here are some of the things I did that allowed me to survive in Ashlands for as long as I did. Thought these would be helpful to solo players taking on the most dangerous biome yet. Feel free to correct me if I got anything wrong somewhere or add on if I left out anything important. Let's help our fellow Vikings!

1. On your way to Ashlands for the first time, find time to lay down a few workbenches on the spires. This serves three purposes: to do a quick hull repair, to suppress spawn for whenever you need to fallback from the not-so-friendly serpents or voltures, and also to allow you to build portals; the last one would be the strongest reason why you need workbenches. With portals,
2. In case you die (which, you will), you can TP the mats for building another ship and resume your journey there. The no-skill-drain and corpse-run buffs are worth way more than travelling from your original departing location.
3. You can sneak back to your cozy home and get that rested buff, do some quick inventory management, or replenish your food supplies, or skip the night - you can do whatever you want to get your mental state recharged and character fully set for the next part of the journey, especially before you make landfall.
   
4. Voltures are practically blind, or rather short-sighted. There is absolutely no need to snipe them from afar when you see them, especially when you are still in the waters. Remember, the longer you stay in Ashlands waters, the more dangerous it gets. When one of those birds DOES approach, stop the ship. Build a workbench if you can. Then you have two options:
   
5. Pull out your Frost Staff. Wait till it comes near and start blasting it with ice. Personally, I'd go for the 2nd option, and it's what I did:
   
6. Unsheathe your Silver Sword. Once the bird flies into your face, give it a few swats and watch the spirit damage do wonders. This option is quick and effective, with the only drawback that your ship may suffer from collateral damages. That's where workbenches help. After all, I see no issue whatsoever in finding a spire nearby to build one on. You'll see why when you get there.
   
7. Bonemaw is relatively easy to deal with with a Frost Staff-Arbalest combination: Frost Staff for when it is writhing around your ship in between chomps and spits, and Arbalest for when it raises its head out of the water. Your ship will definitely take damage from the serpent, so be sure to lay down a workbench nearby as soon as you are able.
   
8. Upon your first sighting of the beachhead, put your ship to a halt near one of the spires, lay down a workbench, set up a portal and get the fuck home. Get sleep, no matter what. Do whatever you want before 12pm and get to bed once your shadow points North. Then once you wake up, you can go to battle with maximum daylight ahead of you. You don't wanna know what happens in Ashlands at nightfall.
   
9. Once you get back to your ship, head straight to land. Expect a welcoming party. Don't waste time pulling up nicely. Just barge your way in, jump off the rudder, take out your hammer and slam down a workbench nearby (if you can). If the latter part doesn't work, clear out most of the mobs with a Frost Staff-Silver Sword combo, then lay down the workbench, and then finally a portal.
   
10. Now you have officially dipped your toe in Ashlands. The next part is gonna be a repetitive yet exciting cycle of exploring outward, workbench slamming, gathering, falling back to nearest portal, exploring further outward, workbench slamming... you get the drill. Don't forget to destroy spawners whenever you see them. Once you find yourself somewhat close to a fortress and Flametal ore(s), build a base there. Why? Well, these are the two things that will surely scale up your readiness and durability in the largely hostile biome. You'll be able to take on small groups of mobs.
    
11. For the next part, it really is up to you. You'll have a more varied playstyle once you get your hands on gems and new magic weapons.
    

It will be a long and arduous process going solo in Ashlands, but the rewarding feeling you get once you realize you are now able to kick ass with the new Ashlands gear is like a cold dessert on a hot summer day.

I love to escape reality so I enjoy games like halo, mass effect, dragon age, dark souls, destiny, crusader kings 3, Stellaris, elden ring, assassins creed (mostly the original series), fall out, Skyrim and some others I cannot think off.
While escaping reality I also love watching movies but more so space related as the never do fantasy justice. My top movies in no order are; how to train your dragon, kung fu panda, gladiator, interstellar, dredd, guardians of the galaxy. There are more but I cannot think of them right now lol

22F. Seeing a general neurologist (already saw MS specialist) and getting an EMG in three weeks but would like to get other people’s opinions - my PCP has no idea what’s going on with me. What should I look into next? Sorry for the long post but I thought I should include all info in case it’s relevant.
Current symptoms: - perceived weakness and neuropathy in left hand/wrist (feels like a weird burning/tingling sensation, sometimes triggered by the cold but present a majority of the time) - this is by far my worst symptom - occasional tingling sensations in other extremities, but never as frequent as left hand - bad upper back pain (comes and goes, gets worse with certain positions and never in one specific area) - derealization/brain fog (feels like I’m out of it/in a different universe, also hard to describe) - occasional chills/shivering - fatigue (sort of comes and goes in waves)
Timeline of my symptoms:
Feb 2023: fell twice while drunk (don’t have balance issues), woke up a two days later with terrible back spasms. A few days after that I noticed weird tingling sensations in my hands and feet and freaked out, also generally not feeling well/having a lot of fatigue. Freaked out about having MS - doctor did brain MRI and told me to chill out, symptoms went away.
Sept 2023: started experiencing chronic fatigue, brain fog, and derealization, chalked it up to weed withdrawals (I was cutting back at the time).
Oct 2023: got Covid - brain fog and fatigue got a lot worse.
Late Oct 2023: started having weird stomach issues - constant bloating and random sharp pains in lower abdomen. Got some tests done, this went away in around a month.
Early Nov 2023: started getting vaginal pain/constant burning sensation. Got more tests done, also went away in around a month.
Dec 2023: started feeling a bit better, then had a terrifying experience on THC (fully disassociated and thought I was dying multiple times), quit again.
Mid Dec 2023: started talking combination birth control for PCOS as per gyno’s recommendation.
Late Dec 2023: started getting weird muscle weakness in both left hand and foot, went away in around three weeks. Also felt chest pain a few times and ended up in the ER for it, where I got my heart tested. Fatigue was pretty bad this whole time.
Jan-Feb 2024: muscle weakness mostly gone, fatigue slowly improving throughout these months, still dealing with some brain fog. Resumed weed use which was probably a bad idea.
March-May 2024: Quit weed for good. Switched to new progestin-only birth control because the combination one was giving me high BP. Started getting all this weird neuropathy and joint pain all over the place, for a few days it was super bad in my left/hand wrist and since then it’s been mostly in that area. Makes me wonder whether I have carpal tunnel or some nerve compression problem - it’s pretty painful. Sometimes shows up in left foot but not that bad there. Still have some derealization and brain fog that shows up for a few hours a day - it’s weird. Fatigue and back pain still present. Symptoms come and go in ways though - I have both good and bad days. I’d like to think I’m improving overall, but days like today make me not so sure of that.
Medical history: - had spinal fusion surgery for scoliosis in thoracic spine when I was 15 - have PCOS - no family history of any autoimmune or neurological conditions except for grandmother with MS. Got genetic testing for 150 ish conditions and every single one was negative
Medications/drugs: - take 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 every day - started birth control in December (right before the neuropathy started - wonder if they might be related?) - chronic daily THC abuse for ~14 months right before all this started, been sober for several months now (possibly related?)

My husband (33 m) and I (23f) have been together for almost 7 years and he is/was the lolm. we met when I was 16 fresh out of HS going to college, he met my family when I was 18. On November 2023, I saw my face was getting swollen and my belly became longer than usual, I didn’t really paid attention because I was blooded. 6 days later, I ended up at the hospital bc I wasn’t feeling normal, the doctor told me that I was pregnant. Husband was soo happy!! I didn’t know how to feel about it but I was happy just because he was. He took great care of me, he went over and beyond to make sure that I was happy specially when he found out that I was caring a pair of babies and I was grateful for that. This relationship was not perfect but we always find a solution or a way to make things work between us until February 2024. Out of nowhere, My husband started to give me ultimatum to choose between my career or my family and he also started commenting and complaining about my look, the length of my belly, he has spent an entire week making nasty comments about my body he kept saying how my belly occupied more than half of the bed, and after delivering the baby my next stop should be at the gym instead of home because I looked “ funny”. Those comments hurt me still now and he could see the pain in my eyes. He didn’t want to go work or outside he told the way I looked will made him looked bad. He got mad for the simplest things/cause, he yelled at met, he husband that I knew for the pas 7 years was a completely different one, he made me cried every day for the last two months straight, but I was still holding because I thought it was a “phase” and everything will be okay and I refused to believe it until a week before my due date. He told me that In order for him to sign the birth certificate a DNA test is required, innocent looking girls are always the biggest whore, proceeded to tell me “who knows, you might have one of those work husband”. I was so hurt, exhausted and mad the only word that came out of my mouth was OK, and that was my last word with him. On the delivery day, I took all stuff that I packed for babies and I, I took an Uber to the hospital I was meeting with my best friend ( her husband is a lawyer specializing in divorce IYKYJ) who was there with me during the delivery and god. Husband knew the delivery date, but didn’t have the address of the hospital,I give my babies the name with my grandfather’s last name. I told the nurses that I am the mom and dad. My husband he showed up the next day after I gave birth, and still demanding the DNA test and complaining on the type of wife that I am. Again I ignored. I went home with my babies, I was exhausted bc he didn’t help me with them at all to a point that I moved to my best friend’s house just she helped me with them. He called all his family members saying that I am cheating on him and the twin aren’t his,They are calling me every single day calling me names, I am tired, depressed and fed up. I contacted my husband and told him that I agree to do the DNA test, but expect a divorce soon and I am not going to change the name. We did and he was the father, all his family were calling to apologies and wanted to meet the babies including the dad and begging me to come back. I said NO and that was my final decision. All his family again texting me and threatened me for not letting them see the kids and divorcing their boy. AITAH?

Lately, I've been obsessed with the nordschleife, I've destroyed my stats and built them back up learning this effing track, I've watched a few guides and practiced like crazy. I've spent hours there. I usually drive the 720s on every single track, it's just what I learned in when I first started playing, I've kinda stuck with it. I took it to green hell and couldn't drive it for shit, couldn't really keep it on the track, ever, so I decided to try a new car, which turned into 4 or 5 cars, it was a destruction derby of sorts. Anyhow, I've sampled the RC F, M4, 296, and the Huracan EVO 2. I can drive them all about the same so today I decided to branch out again and try another car, I knew I could drive this bitch faster, I just had to find the right car. I decided to try the 2019 991II and I instantly fell in love. Never driven it, never really had an interest due to reading that they're kinda difficult to drive, but I could drive it better than any other car I've driven, even the 720s, which i probably have a few hundred hours with. Is the 991 just an easy car to drive or is this a common or weird thing? Sorry for the novel.

22F. Seeing a general neurologist (already saw MS specialist) and getting an EMG in three weeks but would like to get other people’s opinions - my PCP has no idea what’s going on with me. Do these sound like autoimmune symptoms / should I look into that? Sorry for the long post but I thought I should include all info in case it’s relevant.
Current symptoms: - perceived weakness and neuropathy in left hand/wrist (feels like a weird burning/tingling sensation, sometimes triggered by the cold but present a majority of the time) - this is by far my worst symptom - occasional tingling sensations in other extremities, but never as frequent as left hand - bad upper back pain (comes and goes, gets worse with certain positions and never in one specific area) - derealization/brain fog (feels like I’m out of it/in a different universe, also hard to describe) - occasional chills/shivering - fatigue (sort of comes and goes in waves)
Timeline of my symptoms:
Feb 2023: fell twice while drunk (don’t have balance issues), woke up a two days later with terrible back spasms. A few days after that I noticed weird tingling sensations in my hands and feet and freaked out, also generally not feeling well/having a lot of fatigue. Freaked out about having MS - doctor did brain MRI and told me to chill out, symptoms went away.
Sept 2023: started experiencing chronic fatigue, brain fog, and derealization, chalked it up to weed withdrawals (I was cutting back at the time).
Oct 2023: got Covid - brain fog and fatigue got a lot worse.
Late Oct 2023: started having weird stomach issues - constant bloating and random sharp pains in lower abdomen. Got some tests done, this went away in around a month.
Early Nov 2023: started getting vaginal pain/constant burning sensation. Got more tests done, also went away in around a month.
Dec 2023: started feeling a bit better, then had a terrifying experience on THC (fully disassociated and thought I was dying multiple times), quit again.
Mid Dec 2023: started talking combination birth control for PCOS as per gyno’s recommendation.
Late Dec 2023: started getting weird muscle weakness in both left hand and foot, went away in around three weeks. Also felt chest pain a few times and ended up in the ER for it, where I got my heart tested. Fatigue was pretty bad this whole time.
Jan-Feb 2024: muscle weakness mostly gone, fatigue slowly improving throughout these months, still dealing with some brain fog. Resumed weed use which was probably a bad idea.
March-May 2024: Quit weed for good. Switched to new progestin-only birth control because the combination one was giving me high BP. Started getting all this weird neuropathy and joint pain all over the place, for a few days it was super bad in my left/hand wrist and since then it’s been mostly in that area. Makes me wonder whether I have carpal tunnel or some nerve compression problem - it’s pretty painful. Sometimes shows up in left foot but not that bad there. Still have some derealization and brain fog that shows up for a few hours a day - it’s weird. Fatigue and back pain still present. Symptoms come and go in ways though - I have both good and bad days. I’d like to think I’m improving overall, but days like today make me not so sure of that.
Medical history: - had spinal fusion surgery for scoliosis in thoracic spine when I was 15 - have PCOS - no family history of any autoimmune or neurological conditions except for grandmother with MS. Got genetic testing for 150 ish conditions and every single one was negative
Medications/drugs: - take 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 every day - started birth control in December (right before the neuropathy started - wonder if they might be related?) - chronic daily THC abuse for ~14 months right before all this started, been sober for several months now (possibly related?)

This is going to be long, I'm sorry. It is my first reddit post, and I feel desperate. I'm just wondering if anyone here has ever mended their family ties?

Overall, we had a happy childhood. We had family friends and my mothers first cousin living in the same city as us, with her two children around the same age as my brother and I. Fast forward a couple of years, there was family drama and an ending of the family friend group that we had due to petty fights between moms, and we stopped having contact with these people. I was a pretty extroverted child, as was my sister, but my brother was pretty introverted. He had great interests as a child, he loved astrology, reading, and knew everything about cars. My sister loved drawing (as did I), making slime, and reading as well (she's an excellent writer). I had a good relationship with both of them, sometimes getting into fights, but nothing really abnormal. We would go outside to play all of the time, and I would take my sister to the pool with me and my friends during the summer. My brother then got very into video games in high school. It was more of a hobby then, which I think is good and healthy, his grades were still good and he was on the volleyball team so he was socializing and fit. His work ethic was not good though, as he would wait until the last minute to finish his assignments. When he was applying to colleges I remember he didn't really want to do anything. It was a big fight between him and my parents. He started college as a commuter, but this was a pretty difficult time for him and he got pretty depressed. He still had the same work ethic and studying habits that he had in high school. My mother then started to deal with depression, as she was close to my brother and became socially isolated at this time. Her age didn't help, and she started dealing with sciatic pain. I then felt like I had to help her, so I would help her with the house, my sister, and the garden. I enjoyed these things, as I feel my nature is pretty nurturing. I love children and found a love in gardening during this time as well. I worked in retail when I was 17, and have been working in the restaurant industry for about 2 years now. My brother never had a job. My brother was always the golden child and got most of the attention and praise, which I didn't mind because in a way it was motivation for me to do well and live up to him. I was still close with him and my sister during his college years. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in three years, and everyone was so proud of him. This was the year I started at the same college as him, but for biochemistry as I was pre-med. This was the year COVID started. My sister was 12, and I was 18, and my brother 21. My brother didn't apply to any jobs after graduation and would just sit at home playing video games. He played for a year and a half, and my parents got frustrated at him for just sitting at home doing nothing. I spoke to him during this time, and he said he was severly depressed during college, and on the first day he knew he didn't want to do it and wanted to drop out instead. I couldn't understand him, as I always saw education as a privilege and gaining knowledge/learning was so rewarding for me (THINK MALALA). My parents told him he had to get a job or go for his masters. He ended up applying for his masters in computer science, and finished that in two years. Since then, December 2022, he has just been in his room locked away playing video games all night and sleeping all day. My mother has been dealing with depression since he started college, and it took a toll on me during COVID trying to help her. This in turn took a toll on my younger sister as we shared the same room and we had a very close relationship. I ended up developing an eating disorder during the time of COVID (I think due to bad stress management), and I was depressed and weighed close to nothing. I ended up graduating with my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry a year early like my brother, but at the end of my studies I decided I could not become a doctor. I studied for my MCAT and was working on applications and all that, but looking forward, I felt the path of becoming a physician did not align with what I wanted in life. The four years of medical school was fine with me, as I love medicine and would study it for the rest of my life if I could, but the hours in residency and the non-existent balance between work and life during those years (along with the debt of medical school) was not something I could justify doing. I wanted to become a mother (sooner rather than later (which feels stupid now as I don't even have a boyfriend and the disloyalty i've seen in men (not my father) makes me have trust issues)). I was lost and wasn't in a good mental state to begin with. Then, my best friends (American) turned on me and isolated me which made me feel even worse. My sister then became the person that I trauma dumped to, which I see was not a good thing, and she started to become aggressive and took turns on who she would isolate in my family. First it was my dad, then my brother, then my mother, then me. She had phases of who she would consider a friend, and who she hated. It was hard on my whole family. During June of 2022, my grandfather (mothers side) became ill with sepsis due to an untreated UTI (he was a farmer and hated the doctor), and she went back to our country for the first time in 20 years. I wanted to go with her, but I had to stay back and take care of my sister. When she came back after my grandfather's death and funeral, my grandmother was all alone, so I went back to my country to stay with her as her caretaker until she passed in November. During that time, I worked on myself and became healthier. It was easier because I had so much family around, and I made new and great friends who I could relate to. The culture is a lot less stressful and on-the-go than American culture, so I found myself seeing the beauty in life like I did as a child. I was in the village surrounded by nature, which I love, and I finally felt like I fit in, whereas in America I never REALLY fit in. When I came home, my sister was still not talking to me.
Fast forward to recently, I am in a great place mentally and physically. I am back to my normal weight (although I do have issues with my hormones due to my former ED, which makes me scared that I am infertile). I am in school in a direct-entry masters in nursing program, working as a server on weekends, and volunteering with the elderly community with a few very close friends that I love. I've done a lot of self work, and have the mindset of not letting my past define me or stop me from bettering myself. My relationship with my family members is pretty great, individually. My sister is doing better mentally, as she dropped some friends feeding her depression, made some new friends in high school, is working as a host in the restaurant I work in, and has taken up martial arts. She is a very bubbly and laughy person, but she can be very cold if she "hates" you. Her relationship with my mother and brother are still very rocky. My mother still deals with depression due to my brother's "wasted potential", although I think I have helped since coming back because I feel much stronger and know now what I have to do to stay strong for my family and for myself. I understand my sister with both of them. I was also initially frustrated with my mother around my sisters age, but I understand what my mother is/has gone through. My sister deems her as crazy, which I told her was wrong. Her and my brother were never very close, and I feel for her frustration with him. He is always in his room playing video games, never helping around the house, and gets mad at her when she says mean things to my mother. I, too, was frustrated with him. However, I know now that the only thing I can really do is fix myself, I can't fix others if they don't want to change. I understand him in a way too. I think that he blamed school for his depression, but I think he still deals with it in a way today and video games is his outlet. When me and him were her age, we would not even think about saying half of the things she says to my parents. I caught my siblings in a screaming match one day when they thought I had left the house. He was screaming at her about being a b**** (I hate curse words, I think they feed anger) because she called my mother and brother fat a**** that morning for eating some leftovers we had (which I think is terribly wrong on two fronts, as one should never say this to another person let alone their own family, and all of the food we have is for everyone, not just for one person), and she was screaming at him to tell her what he wanted to say for the past 17 years. I intervened and started telling them that it was wrong to be screaming at each other, and that we have to be there for each other because we are siblings. We are each other's first best friends in life, and no one else will understand what we went through together. My sister and I also recently had an argument because she told me that my mother and father were very hard on her for her schooling as a child and that she remembers my mother about to throw a chair at her because of some bad grade, but that I stopped her from throwing it. I don't remember this happening ever. I remember that me and my brother were disciplined as children, and that I would get the most punishment (because I was a more mischievous child), and they were hard on us for school, but I knew it was for our better (remember Malala?). She was much younger than us, so their parenting changed significantly by the time she was born. As a child, she never got hit. I think that she might believe that this actually happened, and the feeling of fear was probably true, but this scene did not happen. My parents were older when they had her, so they were not as playful as they were with us as children, but they did their best. I would always try and give her everything I never had at her age, buying her food and taking her shopping. However, she now eats some form of fast food every day, takes my dad to buy her snacks that she won't share with us (which I told my dad is not okay, even if it is a bonding moment between them which he clings onto, he should teach her to share), and she has no interest in dressing up like she did as a child (she used to change her outfit three times a day, always fashionable). I don't think the fashion thing is a big deal, but I want to give her all of the clothes I wished for at her age.

If so, how can I do this? Or is it better for me to just focus on my own life, make the goals I want happen, and pray/hope they can find the contentment I have found in life? I don't want to intrude too much, but I want to help them. Family is a very important value in my life, and I think it is for them as well.

Should I decline an interview I know is a courtesy interview?

I recently applied for a position in a large hospital system I previously worked for (but in a completely different department this time). I knew from the beginning that I was receiving the benefit of a "friends and family" recommendation from the president of the hospital, whom the manager of this department directly reports to. I felt fine about this because my resume is strong and I know I would be a great fit for the position, but two days after my phone screening, I got a "sorry, there were just too many better qualified candidates" rejection email.
Fine. Not the end of the world.
But the same day the president became aware of this, I received a backtracking email from the recruiter along the lines of "I spoke with the hiring manager, and we decided that we would like to interview you after all, etc."
I know this is a courtesy interview. I'm flattered that the president put in a good word for me, but I feel stressed and defeated knowing this interview is happening not based on the worth they see in me, and that it's going to be a performative waste of time.
They're going to contact me sometime this week about scheduling the interview. Should I politely decline? I'm very burnt out on the job hunting/interview process already, which might be clouding my judgement, but there's no way there's an actual opportunity here, right? Any advice either way would be appreciated.

I disagree with your take ;). The president wants you to be interviewed. You can't know if there isn't a second position open now or in the very near future. IMHO it's worth the effort to get your first interview with them. I wouldn't decline.

tl;dr: I was given the opportunity to interview for my dream position based on the recommendation of the organization's president (whom I know from previously working there). I assumed the interview was just a "courtesy interview" and there was no way I'd land the position.
So...I'm very glad I ended up listening to everyone's advice and taking the interview seriously despite thinking I had no chance. I got the job!
The interview went really, really well. The department head and I had a fantastic conversation after the formal part of the interview was over, and I got the sense right away that we would work well together. Apparently, she felt the same!
Additionally, I found out that the decision itself had nothing to do with the president's interference. After I received the offer, I reached out to thank her for her referral, and she flat-out told me, "I didn't do anything, the hiring decision was completely up to [hiring manager]. If he didn't think you were the best candidate, you wouldn't have been hired. He and [department head] were really impressed with you."
I start in June, and I'm beyond excited. A huge thank you to everyone who offered advice!

OOP: Thank you! It's a step up into a professional position in my field, where I'd previously worked as a paraprofessional. I got my master's last year, so this is my first position that requires that degree. The salary and location is much better as well.
