2024.05.14 00:54 sysja Looking for orange-pink gyro sauce
| Hello everyone! I went to Greece about a year ago and we got these kabobs and gyros in Patmos that came with the choice of this orangey-pink sauce instead of tzatziki (specifically for the chicken option). It was SO good and I’ve tried to find it since but I don’t know the name of it! Does anyone have any ideas? Additional info: I did look at the restaurant website and the dish description directly translated σως to ‘sauce’, so no luck there. I also have a friend who has had the same sauce in Athens, so I know it’s not specific to this restaurant or area. Thanks so much in advance! submitted by sysja to greekfood [link] [comments] |

History Hyenas: The Ancient Greeks
Chris Distefano: "What's up, cuzzy wuzzies! Welcome to another wild episode of History Hyenas. I'm Chrissy Chaos, and with me, as always, is Yannis Pappas, aka Yanni Long Days. Today, we're diving into the ancient Greeks. Strap in, because this is going to be wilder than a Dionysian festival!"
Yannis Pappas: "Yeah, baby! The ancient Greeks – the original philosophers, warriors, and drama queens. They gave us democracy, the Olympics, and, let's not forget, those crazy myths. Zeus turning into a swan to seduce someone? That's classic Greek wildness right there."
Chris: "Right? So let's kick it off with their democracy. Athens, around the 5th century BC, was where democracy was born. But it wasn't like today's democracy. Only free men who were citizens could vote. Women, slaves, and foreigners? No chance. It was like an ancient boys' club."
Yannis: "Yeah, they had this thing called the Assembly, where citizens could speak their minds and vote on issues. But it was direct democracy – no representatives. Imagine if we did that today. We'd have millions of people yelling over each other on Zoom."
Chris: "And speaking of yelling, those Greek philosophers loved a good debate. Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle – these guys were the OGs of thinking deep thoughts. Socrates was all about asking questions and making people think. Too bad it got him sentenced to death. He had to drink hemlock, which is like the ancient Greek version of getting canceled."
Yannis: "Right! And don't forget about the Spartans, the ultimate badasses of ancient Greece. They were all about discipline, strength, and military prowess. Kids were taken at age seven to train in the agoge, a brutal system that made them warriors. They were the original 'this is Sparta!' crew."
Chris: "And then we have the culture – the art, theater, and literature. They invented drama with tragedies and comedies. People like Sophocles and Aristophanes were writing plays that are still performed today. Imagine if Netflix existed back then – we'd have epic Greek binge-watching sessions."
Yannis: "And the mythology, bro! The gods and goddesses – Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Athena. They were like the dysfunctional family of Mount Olympus. Their stories were wild – affairs, battles, and transformations. It’s like Greek mythology was the first soap opera."
Chris: "And let's not forget the Olympics. The ancient Greeks started it all. Every four years, athletes from different city-states would compete in events like running, wrestling, and chariot racing. And they did it all in the nude. Talk about leaving nothing to the imagination."
Yannis: "So there you have it, folks. The ancient Greeks – they were wild, they were wise, and they laid the foundation for so much of Western culture. From democracy to drama, they did it all. Now go out and tell someone about the crazy Greek myths or how Socrates got canceled by drinking hemlock."
Chris: "And remember, stay wild, stay curious, and keep listening to History Hyenas. We'll see you next time, cuzzy wuzzies!"

2024.05.13 22:16 nathanf1194 Greek Island Options Along With Athens
Hi, all!
I’m planning a trip to Greece with my wife. Ideally, we’d like to stay in Athens for 2-3 nights total and one of the islands for 5-7 night’s.
I’d imagine that our flights, once booked, will be in and out of Athens. I’m thinking we’d ideally go directly from our flight to a ferry and hit our island stay first. Then we’d come back up to Athens for the last couple of nights. I think round trip flights out of Athens will be most cost effective.
A few questions:
- Recommendations for islands we could visit that would pair well with an Athens stay? We aren’t partiers so no Mykonos. We just want something somewhat close to Athens that’s nice and reasonably authentic. I was thinking Crete but that’s a 9-hour ferry ride?
- Should it be Athens -> Island, or Island -> Athens? Assuming flights in and out of Athens.

I am traveling to Greece this summer and will be visiting with my cousin who is pregnant with her first child. I am sure Greece (& Europe) has a lot of baby items that are available in the U.S., but I wanted to ask the internet to see if there was anything that I could bring from the U.S., that might be hard to find in Greece. Ideally items that could fit in a suitcase.
I am bringing a few small things that my kids loved (the banana teether, baby Einstein take along music toy, baby rattle with the little cage style balls on the end), but would like to bring a few more things.

2024.05.13 20:22 AdQueasy4367 Steering Through Choices: Selecting the Right Brokerage Services Company for Cargo Transportation
In the complex world of cargo transportation, businesses rely on brokerage services to navigate the logistical challenges of shipping goods efficiently and economically. A brokerage services company acts as an intermediary between shippers and carriers, playing a crucial role in managing the movement of freight across global networks. Choosing the right partner such as
Sargona Private Capital in Greece in this sector is essential for ensuring timely deliveries, reducing costs, and maintaining the integrity of shipments. Here’s how to select the right brokerage services company for your cargo transportation needs.
1. Assess Industry Expertise and Market Knowledge
The first criterion should always be industry expertise. A competent brokerage firm should not only understand the fundamentals of freight brokerage but also possess deep insights into your specific market sector, whether it's perishables, automotive parts, or consumer goods. Their expertise can prove invaluable in navigating regulatory requirements, handling customs, and managing specialized freight needs.
2. Verify Licensing and Credentials
In the cargo transportation industry, it’s critical that a brokerage firm is properly licensed and compliant with industry regulations. In the United States, this means checking that the broker has a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) license. Additionally, verify memberships in relevant industry associations like the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) which can indicate a commitment to best practices and ethical standards.
3. Evaluate Network and Carrier Relationships
The effectiveness of a brokerage firm is largely determined by the strength and breadth of its carrier network. A robust network means more options and backup plans for your shipments. Investigate the firm’s selection criteria for carriers, how they maintain relationships, and their ability to handle different volumes of cargo. A more extensive network often translates to better rates and more flexibility in meeting your shipping needs.
4. Consider Technology and Tools
Technology plays a pivotal role in modern freight brokerage. Effective firms utilize advanced Transportation Management Systems (TMS) to track shipments in real-time, manage routes and carriers, and optimize logistics. The ability to provide real-time data and visibility into the shipping process is crucial for scheduling and managing your supply chain efficiently.
5. Check Financial Stability
The financial health of a brokerage service is crucial, especially when it comes to handling your freight needs during economically turbulent times. Stability often means that the brokerage can maintain consistent service levels, manage payments to carriers promptly, and invest in technology and staff training.
6. Analyze Service Flexibility and Scalability
Every business’s needs are unique and can change over time. A good brokerage service should offer flexibility in handling different types of cargo and scalability to adjust to your business’s growing or shifting needs. This includes having the capability to manage peak seasons, varying shipment sizes, and emergency situations without hiccups.
7. Scrutinize Customer Service and Support
High-quality customer service is essential. Problems such as delays, lost cargo, or documentation errors need to be resolved swiftly and effectively. Evaluate the brokerage’s communication processes, availability for queries and support, and their problem-solving approach. Responsive and proactive customer service can differentiate an excellent brokerage service from an average one.
8. Review Pricing and Fee Structures
Transparent and competitive pricing is fundamental. Request detailed quotes and understand the fee structures thoroughly—this includes identifying any hidden costs or potential additional charges that might arise. It's not always about choosing the lowest bidder but finding the best value that combines reasonable costs with reliable service.
9. Read Reviews and Seek Referrals
Lastly, leverage the experiences of others. Read online reviews, case studies, and testimonials to gauge the brokerage’s reputation. Additionally, seek referrals from within your network. Personal recommendations can provide honest insights and help you gauge the firm’s effectiveness and reliability in real-world operations.
Conclusion
Selecting the right brokerage services company for cargo transportation is critical to the success of your logistical operations. A strategic approach to choosing a broker can lead to improved operational efficiency, cost savings, and enhanced service delivery, ultimately providing a competitive edge in the fast-paced world of commerce.

I am really confused as to where this Greek and south Italian is coming from because as far as I’m concerned no one in my family is European, and 31.9% would usually mean one of my grandparents is south Italian/greek. My siblings both took dna tests and one got around 2% European, the other got around 10%. My dad (Iranian and Tunisian) got around 17% Greek and south Italian on his dna test which is weird because it’s a notable percentage but it doesn’t make much sense to me why I have almost double his. 2024.05.13 18:30 Gondolian Shoes (or boots) for beginner (m/w)
The question is common but there are some specific considerations to add.
Along with my girlfriend, we recently started hiking more frequently. We live in Greece so our hikes are usually under good weather, rainy at the worst case.
We are looking for intro level shoes. Here are some specs/questions:
- Shoes vs Boots: I was advised to look for boots if I want to protect my ankles. But I really have not found a case where a boot would protect me more than just a simple pair of Shoes (I mean, if you misstep so hard, I think the ankle will be twisted no matter what you wear, right?). What do the more experienced advise on that?
- Ball width: I don’t know if it’s the correct term but we both have this issue that our little toes get hurt on the outside due to friction with the internal of the shoe. We,thus, select shoes with high ball width, especially when we walk a lot.
- Waterproof, good grip and made for stone paths: Although I assume most brands cover it, we want to make sure rain or some water on the ground won’t just instantly soak our socks. Also, the paths we usually do are rocky, so We need good grip.
- Budget: We are looking for a simple intro level shoes /boots. We expect to go once a month at most. We just want to make the experience smoother and safer, nothing special.
Thanks in advance 🙏

2024.05.13 18:21 Affectionate_Big597 AITA for telling my niece that she stinks?
I (37 F) had my niece (26 F) over last summer. She flew in from the States to stay with my (40 M) boyfriend and me in Europe. When I heard that she was finally coming I was really excited as I haven’t seen her for many years. I decluttered, cleaned and tidied up the guest room and even decorated it with the things she likes, incense, nice colors, little wooden boxes and gem stones.
After she arrived, all was well for the first few weeks. After that I begun noticing that she would keep to herself more, just sit in her room (the guest bedroom) for most of the day. She would wake up very late in the day, about noon and would always be in a bad mood. We always offered breakfast, said “good morning!” with a big smile and tended to her so she would feel welcome. I mentioned mornings because she seemed to be more irritable then. She would just stare with a pissy look and sit far away from us. Now with the hygiene: she doesn’t shave which is a personal preference I have absolutely no problem with, but she bathes once a week and doesn’t put deodorant because she believes it causes cancer. But it was summer and she’s a big girl who sweats a lot. My boyfriend and I began to notice that the whole house started to have a sweaty, oniony smell. We tried to explain to her that it’s summer, we all sweat and smell and if she could please apply some deodorant. She refused and got defensive. We dropped the subject.
All this continued for some weeks to the point that we had to buy Lysol to spray around the house and my boyfriend is allergic. The worst part was when she was sitting in the car with us and we had to literally hold our noses and roll the windows down.
Well, a month later we planned a 10-day vacation in Greece and invited her to come with us. We thought that the change in scenery would motivate her and lighten up the mood. Oh how wrong we were! The same motif: she’d wake up late in the day to the point where we had to shake her awake or else she’d miss all the plans we had (cruises, sightseeing, taverns, the beach). She would be extra irritable and even shout at us. The last straw was when we went for a mini hike to some old monasteries and she got so pissy with us she decided to stay at the gate and not come with… She was even moaning about the fact that the European girls were so pretty and slim and why can’t she be like them meanwhile she always requests to buy instant ramen, sweets and sodas…In the end I was so done with this childish behavior that I told her “look, we invited you here, I paid for your tickets, make sure you’re fed, that you’re having fun and you show no respect to us, only complain and act aggressive toward both of us, for no reason! We asked you to put on deodorant as it’s a hygiene problem and you can’t even do that! Do you think we’re your personal servants? You don’t even clean up after yourself or help us with any chores!” (I understand she was a guest, but if I was a guest for MONTHS at someone’s house and my whole stay was funded by them plus my vacation, I would at LEAST clean up after myself and wouldn’t make a mess…)
All this drama took place by the end of the holiday and when we got back home she changed her tickets and flew back home early. I can’t believe she acted like this, she was never satisfied with anything, we took her to so many beautiful places, done so many nice things, tried to include her as she was always waking up late, and she accused us of alienating her, disrespecting her and trying to control her even though she did that to herself by staying in and playing video games. Back home she lives with her mother. Last I saw her was 15 years ago and she used to be such a nice, happy kid… I don’t know what happened to her between then and now as we never talked about very personal stuff, just exchanged memes and talked about job stuff and guys she liked. I feel like she has depression coupled with something else. She doesn’t speak to me anymore and she didn’t even say thank you for all we did for her. Not to mention I spent about 4K on her for the months she stayed with us…
So AITA for telling her she smells bad?
UPDATE: I forgot to write that I sat down with her at some point and we talked about hard times but she didn’t tell me what happened to her (if anything) to be emotionally distressed. I had major depression, alcoholism and unaliving ideation in my 20s and it was as if I was looking at myself. I tried to give her some pointers for therapy, ways to analyze her own negative thoughts/ stop them in their tracks and advice on how to cope with some things that I have similarly experienced. I told her I was having cognitive behavioral therapy twice a week for many years and was introduced to an antidepressant which was suitable for me after trying some. So visits to the psychiatrist every month. My life significantly improved and I learned not to torture myself. But she said she doesn’t believe in therapy and is totally against taking medicine. I feel like I can’t do much… She does not communicate, my family does not have a good relationship with her mother and everything she does is always someone else’s fault, she shifts the blame to them. She has a big problem with authority and strange ideas about life (i.e. that “people are not supposed to have a job, traditional jobs are slavery to the ‘System’ “). But even so, I can’t believe she did not feel bad about how she behaved.

2024.05.13 15:54 holy_ravioli__ My (22F) boyfriend/ex-boyfriend (22M) revoked my invite to his brothers wedding. How should I feel?
Context - We broke up over a year ago but after a few months apart we started seeing each other again. I don’t really know what we are at this point other than we are more than friends. Nonetheless everything is reasonably okay between us.
About 6 months ago he invited me to go abroad for his brother’s wedding. They had a house/villa booked in Greece for September 2024 and I was told that I only needed to sort my own flights out.
Because of the job I do I didn’t know when my shifts were going to be until about a month ago. As soon as I knew I asked him to send me the dates so I could book the time off.
Once I had the time booked off I had to ask him for the flight times so I knew which flights I was booking. Over around 3 weeks I kept asking him and he would keep saying he was going to but he didn’t. He then started saying that he kept forgetting.
Nonetheless, yesterday I asked him when we were out together and he once again said that he forgot. So, I asked him “do you not want me to go?” to which he said that he would rather go alone. I wanted to know why so I asked if it was something that I had done or said (not that I could think of anything that would have prompted this) and why didn’t he say something sooner. His responses were all quite avoidant and he eventually added that he wanted to spend time with his brothers.
I don’t really know how to feel, it’s not like he doesn’t see or speak to his brothers or that anything has happened to make him change his mind.
I’m not overwhelmingly bothered about not going. I’m more confused about why he would continually put off telling me that he didn’t want me to go. I don’t know whether this is as big of a deal as what I think it should be, especially because he’s hidden information from me that concerns me before.

Εχουν περάσει συνολικά 2+ μήνες και απάντηση δεν έχουμε λάβει. Τι κάνουμε καν σε αυτο το σημείο; Καταγγελία μεσα απτον σύλλογο καταναλωτών;
P.S : Επι ΠΑΣΟΚ δεν κυνηγούσαμε τα 62 ευρώ τοσο μανιασμένα.

2024.05.13 10:00 AutoModerator CHAT Community Thread - Mon May 13
*** Comments mentioning anything related to treatment, trying to conceive, or family building measures in this thread will be removed via our OFF TOPIC rule. Consider if you were taking a break from treatment because you were exhausted and sad - treatment (yes anything related to it) goes in treatment **\*
Coping with infertility is complex, and it is our imperative to create places where we can honor the distinctly unique needs created by infertility. Sit beside us and share what’s on your mind and going on in your life. This is a great place to get to know your fellow members outside the gravity of treatment. Discussion here includes, but is not limited to:
- Venting about the impact of infertility on our lives/relationships/careers
- Non-IF Rants of all kind – marriage, career, societal, social media, friendships, mental health, and yes… politics too. It doesn’t need to be infertility related!
- Discussions around dealing with the influence of infertility – therapy, coping methods, finding supportive friends, getting lapped by a friend, dealing with pregnancy announcements, pushy parents, people that don’t understand, etc. The big picture stuff.
- Sharing stories and parts of your life (pictures of pets always welcome!) outside of infertility
Example of the difference between the Treatment and Chat Thread: Comments for the Treatment Thread
- Literally anything that involves or mentions treatment, trying to conceive, or any family building measures: paying for it, being exhausted by it, fighting about it, telling other people about it. If anything about your comment has anything to do with treatment or TTC, it belongs in the treatment thread. Also including diagnostic tests, medication, lab results, or lifestyle measures taking in the hopes of improving treatment outcome.
- I'm in the TWW, and I'm glad I scheduled a vacation as a distraction!
- I'm trying to decide if I should delay my egg retrieval cycle because this is a big work month for me.
- I told my parents about IVF, and they were incredibly supportive. I feel really grateful.
Comments for the Chat Thread
- You can of course still discuss infertility in the chat thread:
- I am super bummed about being lapped by a friend.
- I have two currently pregnant coworkers, and I am losing my mind with all the pregnancy discussion.
- Today is the anniversary of my loss, and I'm really struggling.
- Or you can discuss things unrelated to infertility:
- Whoa, my dogwalker taught my dog to roll over.
- There's this donut place next to my work that sells donuts for $5 each, but the WILD thing is that they're worth it!
- My spouse and I are planning a trip to Europe. Opinions on Italy vs Greece?
A few notes: - Positive HPT or Beta Results (including Beta Hell) should only be posted in the Results thread as per the rules (except for confirmed loss): https://www.reddit.com/infertility/search?q=flair_name%3A%22Results%22
- We recognize that the AM/PM distinction doesn’t match up with every time zone in our global community, we ask that you pick the most recently posted thread wherever you are.
- Standalone culture here is saved for complex topics, usually including detailed conversations around scientific studies, or asking multi-part complex questions around treatment plans. We strongly recommend posting in the community threads first. If you aren’t sure, ask in the daily threads first!
Above all - Science minded perspective and respect for others is important here. Please treat your fellow peers with compassion. Last reminder - this is the CHAT thread. Not the place to discuss anything focused on treatment, TTC, or family building measures. submitted by

2024.05.13 06:30 provinground Planning a honeymoon in November
Hello. I’ve never been to Europe at all… looking to go a few places for a 2 week honeymoon. We don’t drink, mid thirties and it’s November. So far after a little brainstorming.. we’re thinking coming from USA to Iceland for a few days and then Vienna a few days, and then Venice to Sicily perhaps for a week…
Also thought of Santorini Greece but not sure how ideal that is in mid November..
