2024.05.05 01:33 BrightyDude just finished ep. 6, some questions and thoughts

Same as title. I just finished episode 6, and I have fewer questions than I actually thought I would have. A lot of stuff clicked and made sense at the end.
First of all: I was pretty sure that Kanon and Shannon were linked somehow, and now I'm pretty sure they're the same person. I don't really know how any of that works out logistically, but between the whole love duel, and also the final red truth of the episode (which btw that whole final scene was amazing, them both smiling triumphantly right at the end, then roll credits) which was that "there are only 17 people", I figure they must somehow be the same person. That's the one big piece of info I feel like I got and I feel great about that. Despite having many more questions regarding the logistics of that whole thing, I can accept it as it is for now.
Next: Things I'm questioning. I still don't understand the whole 'meta world' thing, but I'm choosing to not worry about it because I've seen similar questions on this sub and there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer beyond "it's whatever you want it to be". I am confused about where Ange fits into all this, however. Are all of the different games except for the third one just fabrications? Is the real 'truth' the events of Ep. 3, since that's where Eva is left alive, and Ange is the last Ushiromiya after she dies, all that? I dont know.
Also, regarding Ange's storyline, I really liked Amakusa in previous episodes, but after the Tea Party, it seems like something suspicious is going on with him. In particular, he says something like "if only she didnt act like this, she would live a long life". It also sounds like okonogi has an agreement with the Sumadera's, which is like really bad. I'm very concerned about that. I'm worried that Amakusa is going to kill Ange or something which I really don't want to be the case because I really liked Amakusa.
Next, an odd thing I noticed. After the episode and its respective tea parties, I was looking around in Characters. I tried executing and resurrecting different characters, since I knew from before with Chiester556 there are easter eggs. When I tried executing Erika on the Human side, it worked. Her death bio talked about her being involved in the Rokkenjima Explosion, which I haven't heard of whatsoever til this point. Also, when I tried executing her on the Witch side, she just straight up disappeared. This doesn't happen with any of the other characters.
One other little tidbit: The vocal version of Fishy Aroma was an absolute banger. I had heard it long before so it's on my Spotify playlist, but it was cool listening to it in the actual game. Because it was in the game however, I got to read the english lyrics which really heightened the song for me. But one part stuck out, at the end of each verse it says 07151129. I'm still dumbfounded at the real significance of this number. It first showed up back in episode 3 on the door to the room where George and Shannon's corpses were found. Then, in episode 4, it was in the mysterious letter that Nanjo's son received. I don't know if this number really is that important, but it feels like it is, and I have no leads on why.
Finally: This is kind of dumb and I wouldn't be surprised if I get downvoted for this, but I'm hesitant to start ep. 7. I will read Umineko all the way through, of course, but the end of ep. 6 seemed so nice and happy, and knowing that the game of ep. 7 will be told by Bern makes me very hesitant (I don't like her much. As a character she's great, but personal opinion, I do not like her one bit.) Is the story no longer going to center around Battler and Beatrice? I was already disappointed when Beatrice took the complete backseat during ep. 5, but seeing her back to her somewhat usual self toward the end of ep. 6 was so refreshing and just so amazing. It really seems like their chapter is over now, however, so I wonder what's really worth seeing in the two whole remaining episodes? I would be very sad if I don't get to see any more of Battler or Beatrice, especially Battler though. I don't want them to turn into minor characters either. I guess I'm just worried I'll be disappointed going forward.

Of everything I detail here, my biggest concern is in the last paragraph. So, if you skip to the bottom, at least read that paragraph.
TLDR; Kanon and Shannon are probably the same person, Ange's situation is weird, Amakusa is sus, Rokkenjima Explosion, signifance of 07151129, concern about disappointment moving forward in future episodes.

2024.04.24 20:08 CCubed17 [QCRIT] Dark Fantasy/Sword-and-Sorcery, Seed of the Black Oak (102k words)

Hey everyone! I'm going to start querying agents with a new fantasy novel soon and would really appreciate feedback on my query. I've been reading lots of queries and guides on this sub and have tried to incorporate all the advice; here's the result.
Thanks so much to anyone who can help!
Dear [agent],
Epi is a commoner who strikes up an unlikely friendship with Alywael, the princess of the Hwen. Their friendship blossoms into teenage romance and then tragedy as war breaks out between the Hwen and the neighboring Caor tribe, led by a sorcerer named Cwuldur.
Cwuldur speaks of a mythical Black Oak, a corrupted tree from whose seeds grow all of the sacred forests of Arraldyn, and he speaks of watering the roots of the Black Oak with the blood of human sacrifice. The Hwen are defeated and Epi and Aly's budding romance is shattered in a brutal act of violence. Epi believes Aly dead and flees her homeland.
Years later, Epi has made a life for herself as a ruthless killer-for-hire in the great Solaran Empire. She speaks their language and hides her ‘barbarian’ heritage. The Empire has its eyes on Arraldyn, now ruled by Cwuldur and the Black Oak, as its next province to be conquered. Epi has no intention of becoming involved until she receives a desperate plea for help from her homeland, and a revelation: Aly is still alive, a prisoner of the Black Oak’s evil designs. Epi does not know how to defeat Cwuldur and his dark magic, and she has nothing but contempt for her own people’s capitulation to the Black Oak and tolerance of human sacrifice, but she cannot leave Aly to her fate. Epi must return home to reclaim a love she thought she'd lost, and in so doing win redemption for herself and her people.
Seed of the Black Oak (102,000 words) is a dark fantasy/sword-and-sorcery with elements like a Celtic-inspired fantasy world similar to Jill Criswell’s Beasts of the Frozen Sun, the queer romance of Samantha Shannon's Priory of the Orange Tree, and the gritty action prose of C.L. Moore’s Jirel of Joiry stories.
[Bio]
Thank you so much for taking the time to consider my book! I am excited to hear back from you.
All possible regards, [Me]
Notes:
I am going through the manuscript line-by-line to try to bring the word count under 100k but it's getting really hard (already did a pass for content and whole scenes to cut out). I'll probably get it to 101, but I'm wondering since the common knowledge around here seems to be that 100k or under is best if it's worth agonizing over a couple thousand words.
Otherwise I'm stuck between "dark fantasy" and "sword and sorcery" for the genre. Is it okay to use both? S&S is kind of seen as an old-fashioned genre imo so I'm leaning towards dark fantasy, but any advice is appreciated.

2024.04.18 18:09 FewCaterpillar6551 Definitely not a live show

Definitely not a live show
This Nashville show will not happen. We all knew it would flop but at the very least she should have spent the past weeks/month doing actual work to promote it. I mean hell go prowl around broadway and chat people up and tell them to come?? Surely some Nashville girls/vandy students would be mildly interested and might even tell their friends about it.
But instead, to prep for the “biggest show of her life”, shes: • gone on 2 (almost 3) trips • gotten extensive dental work • given herself some nasty rash • spent what has to be hundreds if not thousands of dollars on cosmetic procedures and treatments that only exacerbated her big ass bruise • broke her phone in the process • made approximately 1,000 instagram stories and a dedicated insta highlight about a fucking BRUISE • had close to zero mentions of her “massive” show in 2 days
(I envy the work ethic Shan!!!!)
Jackie oshrey brought up Shannon’s live show when she cohosted the toast (don’t come for me lol) and where “normal” Shannon would have been beyond eager to self promote and ramble for 5 mins straight about how amazing and funny it’s going to be, she essentially blew it off saying “yeah live show in Nashville tickets in my bio” and changed the subject.
She has also done ZERO promotion on her official podcast instagram account in the past few days. Why is she not posting old live show clips and linking tickets??? Why is she not even pretending to try???? Does she have a manager or anyone in her life to tell her these extremely basic things??
This show is absolutely not happening and I’m loving watching this self sabotage dumpster fire

Paranormal the New Normal Ft Lindsay Shannon, Psychic Medium & Reiki Energy Healer
That's right it's time for the lucky third interview of the week and I'm looking forward to this one. I am being joined by Lindsay Shannon; psychic medium, reiki energy healer, and spiritual mentor. Join us for what i'm sure will be a mind opening discussion. Bio: Hi! I’m Lindsay Shannon and I’m a psychic medium, Reiki energy healer and spiritual mentor who helps people to awaken to a greater sense of purpose. My spiritual awakening was preceded by a lot of struggle with things like depression, self-doubt and heartbreak. But once I started doing all the soul work and seeking out alternative modalities of healing, I couldn't get enough (still can't!). I engaged in a lot of self reflection and worked through releasing old emotions and clearing away past trauma. I have experienced so much freedom and fulfillment as a result of this process that I knew I needed to share this with my world in any way I could. My purpose here in this lifetime is to lovingly guide you as you come to know your own power.

2024.04.13 23:29 Uncommonality [Half-Life] The reason why the Combine's portal technology is so inferior is because until very recently, its function was fulfilled by the Nihilanth

In Half-Life 1, we fight the "Nihilanth", an entity which is capable of holding open rifts to other dimensions, which are actively being closed from the other side. It does this during the Black Mesa Incident, nullifying the influence of the Portal Satellite in orbit and allowing its invasion to continue unabated even without an active Resonance Cascade.
The Nihilanth makes a cryptic statement of being "their slaves", which is almost certainly a reference to the Combine, who appear in Half Life 2. The Combine are a multi-universal, unfathomably advanced and powerful empire, who have one very curious weakness - their teleporters are slow, cumbersome and gigantic. Where humanity, with much, much less advanced technology, invented room-sized teleporters, the Combine need to use an enormous skyscraper that exceeds the clouds and something called a "dark matter fusion reactor" in order to open portals to their homeworld.
My theory is that this is because the Combine teleportation technology is a very recent invention. Their speciality is bio-engineering, i.e. turning organic beings into purposed cybernetic organisms (Such as Striders, Hunters, Gunships, Advisors, Stalkers, etc).
The Nihilanth in HL1 was clearly cybernetically augmented - it had a third arm stitched to its chest, sat on top of a hovering device and its head was cut open, exposing a massive xen crystal within (a substance linked to teleportation).
Based on its augments and its cryptic statements, as well as the fact that the Combine appeared out of the portal storms that ravaged Earth after the Nihilanth's death (instead of opening a portal of their own), I believe that the Nihilanth was a Synthetic Organism created by the Combine, with the purpose of providing transport to their armies and data streams. Essentially an organic portal device.
Because of this capability, the Combine never developed its own portal technology - a complete lack of redundancy is another massive fault in the Combine modus operandi, also seen in how there was only a single Citadel on Earth, within City 17. So when the Nihilanth escaped (probably by creating a portal for itself), the Combine lost their ability to teleport armies into other worlds, or transport resources back to their Overworld.
Without the Nihilanth, their empire would have collapsed - (un)luckily, its death while holding open the Earth-Xen superportal caused an enormous backlash in the form of several portal storms, which ravaged both sides of the collapsing gateway and provided the Combine a way to transmit their forces to Earth, in pursuit of their teleporter.
Once on Earth, they quickly realized that the humans didn't have the Nihilanth, but found something even better - a human scientist with intricate knowledge of how technology-based teleportation works: Dr. Wallace Breen.

2024.04.03 17:05 United_Marsupial_784 Podcast Personal Sparknotes

hi guys,
i keep a running list of podcasts i've listened to with notes this way i can check back to see which i've listened to or if i have to recommend any to friends. feel free to copy/paste into your own word doc so you can ctrl+f shows you've been thinking about listening to or just to see my opinion on shows you might have already listened to - here you go!
The system – REAL GOOD
48 hours – quick listen eps of the show, some good, some bla
Scamanda – good but like wow everyones an idiot
Why cant we talk about amandas mom – v v good
Nightmare next door – don’t like it, terrible background sounds
Snapped women who murder – endless quick listening/intriguing
Girl in the blue mustang – so good, keith morrison
Execution of bonny lee blakely – one of my firsts and such good story telling!
Letters from sing sing – literally made me cry, absolutely incredible
Heaven’s gate – meh, too satanic
Locked inside – it wasn’t bad it just wasn’t up my alley. A lot of accents difficult to understand
Tom browns body – very interesting
Killer cases – easy consistent listening
Felonious florida – fun quick listen with random murder stories through FL
Believe her – good one
Murder in miami – seems interesting but its told through a guy in prison on the telephone so it’s kind of annoying and also way too many episodes
Murder and magnolias – good, keith morrison
The real killer
Up and vanished, S1 – really great listen, very detailed reporting and interview (I skipped the case evidence eps)
Up and vanished S2 – I just was nottt feeling it
Motive for murder – a lot of characters but real good
The seduction – lovers triangle, pretty good, keith morrison
Solved murders – (all 2 pts kind of annoying)
Murder in apt 12 – good & quick listen, keith morrison
True crime deadline – easy consistent listening
White eagle – boring
Last seen alive- too much talking
Killer psyche -too much talking
Suspect S1 – super slow but good-ish
Over my dead body – literally beyond boring
Dirty john – slightly intriguing but slow, all you need is 1st and last eps, keith morrison
Room 20 – so dragged out ugh
Someone knows something – s1 way too slow and the disappearance happened too long ago, trying s5
Someone knows something – s5, actually pretty good, too much irrelevant info in the beginning.
Father wants us dead – REAL true crime, v v good
Hot & deadly – by far the easiest listen, good voice acting and sound fx, I go back to this every time another podcast annoys me, tons of episodes
The thing about pam – good quick listen, keith morrison
Death island – BORING, every episode is the literal same story with no conclusion always goes back to the foreign tourist who dies and it’s covered up by the islanders
5th floor – very slow but also about a little girl and I don’t usually like stories about kids
Killer Role- another good keith Morrison show! SO dramatic but quick easy listen
Killing on the cape – slow, annoying, no outcome of who was jailed. Mostly phone calls
The yellow car – too old of a murder case. Daughter of killed mother wont stop looking for killer for 30 years and it’s already a closed case like no one is opening it again
Bonaparte – too many characters and the story isn’t put together well enough to keep you drawn in to pay attention
Witnessed fade to black – beyond boring, too much uness detail not enough murder detail
Shadow of truth – too much translations and Iranian names to keep up with. Voice actors have heavy Iranian accent
Final days on earth with clair st. Amant – whole thing is based on phone interviews. Completely inconclusive interview on a case that was closed and another journalist who thinks she can figure it out. Annoying.
Corruption in Tennessee – absolutely not, one girl talking to herself the whole time
Direct appeal – 2 people talking to each other about crimes, just chatting, with minor recordings of the convicted but not enough to keep it interesting. No way.
Stephenville – each episode is about a persons bio involved in the case. Why tf do I care how Shannon dress in high school, there is no climax to this and so annoying to listen to
The estate – another case where the son wants to figure out what happened to his dad and nothing comes from it. Waste of time.
Killer kin – there are some good eps but the few ive heard are annoying. Every ep is based on twins who kill ppl/each othecause havok
Morally indefensible – not enough about the murder, more about the drama between an author and the murderer and the story that was written. It was stupid.
Finding Brittanee Drexel – teen runs away, slow start but actually ended pretty good
Frozen truth – just terribly recorded, could be a good story but hard to listen to
Beyond bizarre – just one guy talking, so boring, couldn’t get past one episode
Devil in the dorm – not murder, just sketchy creeper guy making a cult. Annoying.
Deadly diocese – not bad, woman journalist is annoying as fuck like she speaks with so many uness words
Severed affair – very detailed, gruesome, female dahmer 5 eps
The donut shop murders – a lot of recording is voice actors and sound like its being recorded in jail so the sound is annoying me. The story is also kind of annoying bc they just kill people for like $20
The officers wife – decent listen, pretty bizarre outcome
Intent, The Tex McIver case – decent listen, actually I kind of liked it
It was simple – honestly cant remember so it prob wasn’t that good
The just enough family – rise and fall of the Steinberg family, super rich, interesting. (binge+)
The apology line – OMG. INCREDIBLE.
Mortal sin – kind of boring. Basically a Christian love & death murder story not that engaging, keith morrison
Beyond bizarre true crime – regular guy just telling a story, annoying lay out
Body brokers – very interesting, psycho story about selling dead bodies – good listen (binge+)
Firebug – psycho story about an arsonist, def good (binge+)
Devil in the ditch – big stretch, too long, a lot of info accusing someone who was never charged of murder (binge+)
Your own backyard – Kristin smart story, a million eps and frustrating bc the killer is obvi in plain sight and no one can “solve it”
Anything you say – LOVE IT, gets straight to the point of the killer admission. Awesome.
The doodler – disappointing, could have been better story telling about a serial killer but it was beyond boring (binge+)
Smoke screen just say you’re sorry – boring but sad, forcing people into false confessions, shitty cops (binge+)
Witnessed: mother mystic – pretty interesting, eye opening on justice system again (binge+)
The murder sheet – no. recording, reading and narrating is so annoying I had to skip through and I just gave up. BORING!
Scorned love kills – bunch of quick episodes, easy to listen to when you’re bored of other ones. Weird moaning sound effects in between tho.
Crimes and consequences – two women with very annoying voices talking to each other, unreasonable.
I met my murderer online – s1 good, quick episodes, s2 annoying, stories aren’t as quick and hosts are V V OBNOXXX
Southern fried true crime – oh no, not good. One lady speaking the whole time with run on sentences and v v terrible voice. Awful.
Beyond evil podcast – actually not bad, one man with a nice voice telling quick 30min stories. Typically I don’t like when people just talk without other voices or background music but this one is nice
Death of a starlet – not too bad, about a playboy/love triangle, celeb status, could have been shorter
Dead in the water – omg, too much info, badly recorded, Australian
Mind of a monster – 6szns, pretty good, not so much details about murders but more so what makes people serial killers
Mommy doomsday – pretty recent story, psycho religious couple kills, it was okay, keith Morrison
What happened to libby caswell – it was okay, terrible investigating for the poor girl.
Deathbed confessions –its not bad but its not interesting
Sweet bobby – IDIOT. This girl got catfished in 2018 like an IDIOT but pretty shocking tbh lol
Can I tell you a secret – super British, a little hard to understand
Run, hide, repeat – about a family who moved a lot bc of secret mafia life, didn’t get past 1st ep
Amy should be 40 – short, not terrible
Murder of Sheila shepherd – absolutely not, terrible talking, one man keeps sucking his tongue its awful
The clown and the candyman – I finished it but it was just okay, a lot of side paths taken just to get to the end of the road
The devil of pope county – absolutely the worst narrating I’ve ever heard in my life. Made me scream, only got through 1 ep.
Inside the morgue – not awful but it’s two mortician girls exchanging stories and occasionally have guests. I don’t usually like people just talking to each other but it’s not bad.
13 alibis – wrongful conviction, very quick (1 day) listen
True crime garage – boring, terrible voice
Serial killing - one lady talking, she is so bland
Serial killer podcast documentary – no
An absurd result – story about a woman who was a child victim of SA, didn’t listen bc I don’t like that stuff
Believable the coco berthmann story: too long I skipped eps 7-9. People are full blown idiots, girl played ppl for money
Strange death of innes ewart – absolutely cannot understand one word.
Serial – not about serial anything, weird stories and one lady with a horrible voice

2024.03.14 22:39 throwawynewlife My mom went missing when I was 12 years old.

I last saw her on Easter at a cafe.
My grandparents talked to her a few months later on the phone and then she was never seen or heard from again.
She was last known to be in the Humboldt region of Northern California, near Ukiah / Eureka.
She was a drug addict for most of my childhood and possibly got involved with a cult or hippie commune.
She has been reported missing, DNA sample provided, and a family friend allegedly privately investigated her disappearance and found nothing.
It has now been 20 years.
Is it a lost cause?
Any recommendations on how to even go about finding her or any new information?
My dad died. So did my big brother. My little brother is a ‘drifter.’
I think I am the only person left who is looking for her…
Edit:
Her maiden name is Shannon Kay Pratt.
She is tall, blonde hair, blue eyes, about 5 foot 10 and used to be a more heavy set woman (in my memories but I have seen her skinny in photos). No tattoos that I knew of. I don’t think she ever managed to keep ahold of any jewelry.
She was born January 16th, 1970 in California.
Edit 2:
So I should have foreseen this but getting lots of repeat information and I feel bad for people putting in the time and effort to do the same thing someone else did.
This is more information than I originally planned on sharing so I wouldn’t completely dox myself but I am all in at this point.
Michael Saulnier is my dad who died. He was married to my mom until like ‘94 and I guess she used the Saulnier name off and on for years.
Nickolas Pratt is my older brother who died. I know there’s an obituary that implies our mom is dead but that’s because my grandparents wrote it and choose to be at peace with her being legally dead (apparently after a certain amount of years of being missing you are declared dead).
There was a Mike McGee who is my little brother’s dad in Wisconsin.
We constantly moved and bounced all over the Western United States and there was a lot of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Rochester, Minneapolis, Red Wing, a Wisconsin Indian Reservation with a man named Judd who should be deceased.
Tons of addresses in the Sacramento area. Livermore. Castro Valley.
I have been messaged extensive lists multiple times and the only address I don’t remember specifically is Oroville which I will be looking into today. The phone number is listed as Bell Telephone Company which doesn’t even exist anymore so I am not too hopeful.
There are even more hits complicating the issue because my dad remarried to a woman named Shannin (my bio mom is Shannon) who crazily enough shares the exact same birthdate as my bio mom but different years.
There was also an incident with a ‘Jose Gomez’ in Nevada that I need to look into because I have never heard of it.
At this point I am fairly confident if my mom is still alive that she changed her name.
I will be digging up old photos today and will be reaching out to a few groups I was informed about in the Humboldt area. People also suggested reaching out to a couple podcasts which I may consider but will try to keep it to local groups first. I’m not really trying to be on the news, just looking for closure I guess.
Thank you every body for all your time, effort, and well wishes. This blew up way more than I expected and it’s almost been overwhelming all the support I feel. I appreciate it more than you can know.
Edit 3: I have ordered a kit from Ancestry and I am still searching for the old photos I have of her from the 90s

MSWL
This year, I am accepting fantasy and romantasy ONLY in young adult and adult age categories. This includes crossovenew adult. Please read these specifics carefully.
PLEASE SEND ME...
Subgenres I love: gothic, dark fantasy, science fantasy, romantasy, cozy fantasy, gaslamp fantasy, fantasy of manners, contemporary fantasy, urban fantasy, historical fantasy
I particularly want stories by authors from groups we need more of in publishing: BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disabilities, neurodivergence, mental illness, and others that are still trying to get a seat at the table
Stories based on cultures and communities that are underrepresented in the market, specifically by authors from those communities
DO NOT SEND ME...
  • Any genre other than fantasy or romantasy
  • Middle grade
  • Epic fantasy
  • Novels in verse
  • Military-based or political fantasy. It's okay as a subplot, just not the main plot.
  • Toxic relationships (romantic or otherwise) you want the reader to support
  • Biblical retellings, biblical dystopian, or other Christianity-based stories
FAIR WARNING! I am picky about these tropes or elements. It’s okay if your story includes these, but if they’re the main focus of the plot, it’s probably not for me. You're welcome to ask me about it, but if you still aren't sure, it may be best to choose other editors.
  • Glorifying royalty/aristocracy. I don’t mind characters that are members of royalty or aristocracy, but there needs to be a heavy dose of scrutiny of that group.
  • Dreams, visions, prophecies, journals, or diaries. My concern with these is that they often take away from the agency of the characters, and when that’s the case, it can be too much to tackle for RevPit.
  • Strict retellings of common classic American or British literature
  • Tropes and broad strokes are fine, but I’m generally not a fan of retellings that use the same character or place names as the source material and/or follow the plot too closely. I often love re-imaginings.
  • In a similar vein, book characters that come to life or real-life historical characters as main or important secondary characters
BOOKS I’VE LOVED RECENTLY
  • The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty
  • Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer
  • Belladonna by Adalyn Grace
  • Blood Debts by Terry J. Benton-Walker
  • Bone Weaver by Aden Polydoros
  • Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross
  • Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett
  • She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan
  • A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid
  • The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels by India Holton

2024.02.25 00:52 IndigoWolf4711 Derek Hough Dancing with the Stars: Professional Dancer Bios ✨

Derek Hough
\"I'm rough... I'm tough... I'm Derek Hough.\" - Derek Hough
Achievements:
'Dancing with the Stars' run:
Derek Hough made his first appearance on Dancing with the Stars in season four (week 6) as a guest instructor with his sister, and pro Julianne Hough and Apolo Anton Ohno.
Derek Hough made his official debut on the show in Season 5. His sister Julianne Hough had joined, and won, the show the previous season. During the season, Derek was partnered with television actress Jennie Garth. They were the ninth couple to be eliminated, placing 4th overall.
In Season 6, Derek partnered with 'American Pie' actress Shannon Elizabeth. They were the seventh couple to be eliminated, placing 6th overall.
In Season 7, Derek partnered with model and television host Brooke Burke. They made it all the way to the finals, ending up winning the season. This marked Hough's first win as professional. Burke would later go on to co-host 'Dancing with the Stars' alongside host Tom Bergeron, replacing co-host Samantha Harris, from Seasons 10-17. Burke was later replaced as co-host by Season 10 finalist Erin Andrews.
In Season 8, Derek partnered with rapper Lil' Kim. They were the ninth couple to be eliminated, placing 5th overall.
In Season 9, Derek partnered with model Joanna Krupa. They were the twelfth couple to be eliminated, placing 4th overall. Krupa had to dance with pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy in Week 5 due to Hough being out with the flu.
In Season 10, Derek partnered with 'Pussycat Dolls' singer Nicole Scherzinger. They made it all the way to the finals, ending up winning the season. This marked Hough's second win as professional.
In Season 11, Derek partnered with film and television actress Jennifer Grey. They made it all the way to the finals, ending up winning the season. Having won aged 50, Grey is the show's oldest female winner. This win marked Hough's third win as professional. Additionally, this was Hough's first of two times winning back-to-back. The only other pros to have achieved this are pro Cheryl Burke (in Seasons 2 and 3), and Hough's sister, and fellow pro Julianne Hough (in Seasons 4 and 5).
Hough did not return to the show for Season 12 due to commitments filming the movie 'COBU 3D (later renamed to 'Make your Move 3D'). He was replaced with pro Dmitry Chaplin, and would eventually return the following season.
In Season 13, Derek partnered with talk show host and actress Ricki Lake. They reached the finals, placing 3rd overall.
In Season 14, Derek partnered with television host Maria Menounos. They were the ninth couple to be eliminated, placing 4th overall.
In Season 15, the All-Stars season, Derek partnered with Olympic artistic gymnast (and Season 8 winner with pro Mark Ballas) Shawn Johnson. They made it all the way to the finals, placing 2nd, losing out to television host Melissa Rycroft and pro Tony Dovolani.
In Season 16, Derek partnered with country music singer Kellie Pickler. They made it all the way to the finals, ending up winning the season. This marked Hough's fourth win as professional.
In Season 17, Derek partnered with 'Glee' actress Amber Riley. They made it all the way to the finals, ending up winning the season. This marked Hough's fifth win as professional, and his second (and final) set of back-to-back wins.
In Season 18, Derek partnered with Paralympic snowboarder Amy Purdy. They made it all the way to the finals, placing 2nd, losing out to Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis and pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
In Season 19, Derek partnered with YouTube personality Bethany Mota. They made it to the finals, being eliminated on the first night, becoming the tenth couple to be eliminated, placing 4th overall.
Hough was initially highly speculated to not be returning the following season however, he eventually did end up returning after all.
In Season 20, Derek partnered with Olympic artistic gymnast Nastia Liukin. They were the ninth couple to be eliminated, placing 4th overall. During Weeks 7-9, Liukin had to dance with former pro (at the time) and troupe member (who would later go on to be a full-time pro) Sasha Farber, due to Hough sustaining an injury.
In Season 21, Derek partnered with wildlife conservationist and actress Bindi Irwin. They made it all the way to the finals, ending up winning the season. This marked Hough's sixth, and final, win as professional.
Hough did not return for Season 22 due to other commitments and creative endeavours. He would eventually return the following season.
In Season 23, Derek partnered with actress, broadcaster, and author Marilu Henner. They were the eighth couple to be eliminated, placing 6th overall.
Hough did not return the following season in order to pursue other opportunities. This was his last season as a pro and he hasn't returned to compete since.
In September 2020, during Season 29, Hough returned to the show in the role of a judge, replacing head judge Len Goodman, who was unable to travel from London to Los Angeles that season due to the restrictions of the Covid19 Pandemic. Goodman eventually returned in Season 30 (and continued on in Season 31 which would be his final season before his retirement, and unfortunate passing five months later) however, Hough still continued on in his role as a fourth judge for Seasons 30 and 31. Following head judge Len Goodman's retirement after the thirty-first season, and unfortunate passing five months later, Hough continued on as a judge in Season 32, alongside long-time judges Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba. He has remained in this role since Season 29.
Hough did have to sit out of two episodes as a judge in Season 30: in episode 3, due a being in close contact with someone who had tested positive for Covid19 (resulting in Goodman, Tonioli, and Inaba judging as a three-judge panel), and in episode 11, the finale, as he himself had tested positive for Covid19. During the finale, Hough was replaced by his sister, former pro and judge, and eventual co-host, Julianne Hough.
Prior to Season 31, Derek co-hosted the Disney+ special 'Dancing with the Stas: The Pros Most Memorable Dances' alongside pros Cheryl Burke, Kym Johnson-Herjavec and Brandon Armstrong.
On March 20, 2023, it was announced that Hough's sister, and former pro and judge, Julianne Hough would return to the show in a new role, as co-host, alongside host Alfonso Ribeiro, following the departure of host Tyra Banks.

2024.02.22 21:12 Low_Artichoke3104 Wait. Now I want—spoilers

I finished watching the show yesterday. Now I want to see the women’s team, captained by Shannon Hayes’s character. Can they really tease that and never deliver? Given Keeley’s styling, I’d watch it for the uniforms alone.
Also, actor bios: Anthony Head is listed as 6’1”. So is Jason Sudeikis. Nick Mohammed at 5’5”. Hannah Waddingham at 5’11”. I get that she wears outlandish heels, but she towers over Head and Sudeikis. Towers! Standing next to Nate, she looks like a different species. She looks like me (6’) standing next to my wife (4’9.5”). Somebody here is lying.
