2024.05.16 04:07 lil_bird666 Factory rifle or Origin action "do it all"?

I am in the "slow" creep of long-range/bolt guns and at a decision point. Currently have a Tikka T1x MTR in a KRG Bravo chassis and been doing the local 22 matches as well as a Seekins Havak PH2 7mm PRC for a primary western hunting rifle, that shoots amazing, and have done a NRL Hunter match with it. I am looking more and more into local PRS matches since I loved the NRL Hunter one. Huge fan of Seekins and with a discount can get a 6 creed Hit Pro for just north of 2k, butttt I do love the idea of getting into the Rem 700 family since there are so many options. Could have a 20 lbs. PRS rig or swap chassis/stocks and barrel and run a 6.5 for more hunter matches without blowing through my 7mm barrel as fast between training and matches. Seekins Hit has the fancy barrel swap ability too which is interesting.
Going full DIY custom route would cost more up front (even with mil discounts) and more than likely slowly become a black hole of funds. In reality how often do you all swap all those components vs just slowly accumulate more rifles?
Between the major "budget" custom action makers are there any memorial day sales that you know of? Have heard great things about the Origin but have not been able to handle any customs.
Any insight or personal experience would be greatly appreciated!

buy it for the low, low price of $380. great as a small investment or build piece. these will only become more scarce and valuable in the future.

2024.05.16 03:48 trickemdickem Scenario: The USMC only ever adopted the M16.

Scenario: The USMC only ever adopted the M16.
Instead of adopting the m4a1 and m27 IAR they continued to modify, modernize and repurpose their beloved creation, the M16A2. The main goal, of course, was to instill a sense of pride and heritage in the testing, development and use of their own USMC rifle.
A few caveats for this mental exercise; we’re assuming these rifles were developed after the M16A2 to present. We’ll be comparing them to the known rifles the Marines implemented during this timeframe while assessing the likelihood of each new feature added to the base battle rifle. I appreciate all additions to the conversation, please forgive my spelling and grammar.
1983, The M16A2 was adopted buy the USMC.
1994, The M16A3:
The 3 round burst was removed and replaced with full auto. Went back to A1 length stock for shorter LOP with body armor but kept the trap door for storage. Ambi controls. Reduced barrel length to 18” and changed barrel profile to a continuous taper with a heavier chamber aera for balance and heat tolerance. Obviously these M16A3s would be upgraded with KAC two piece quad rails, laser aiming devices and optics attached to the carry handle similarly to what was seen. The early days of GWOT would eventually introduce flat top M16A4 uppers still issued with the uncompromising A2 carry handle attached to the bottom of the KAC rail. But this M16A4 isn’t the one you know. It still boast the continuous taper barrel, ambi controls and shorter overall length of the reimagined m16A3.
2011, M16A5:
The marine corps shifted dramatically with the age of optics, free float quad rails and new SOPs that integrated heavier firing schedules. This created the need for heavy profile machine gun barrels and flip down sights. The Marine corps began its path to create a multi purpose squad rifle to replace their machine guns with an over built heavy duty version of their beloved M16 (M27IAR) This ultimately led to squad designated marksmen versions of the standard infantry rifle as seen in real life (usmc SAMR, usmc M38) because many of the features added created a more accurate rifle. As any service rifle there would come variations combining a lot of the features making very rare and obscure individual “clone” builds. Some A3s fitted with a free float rail or some A5s with the lighter A3 profile barrels.
2018, M16 block iii (PDW):
With the infantry moving towards the heavy expensive M16A5, The CORPS started experimenting with the lightest shortest version of the M16 yet. A m16 personnel defense weapon for rear echelons, administrative, mechanized units and training schools. Without the need for heavy sustained fire, the continuous taper barrel was reduced in weight and moved to a shorter 16” mid length gas. Following suite with SOCOM, the MK16 rail was utilized. lights/ laser and other rail mounted devices weren’t priority for these roles, but still able to be used. Another savings in cost, weight and ease of manufacturing was the monolithic polymer lowers. The lower kept A1 length fixed butt stocks, and Ambi controls. Lastly, As a homage to the m16A2 and a cost cutting measure by not using optics unless in a combat infantry squad, the rear fixed A2 sights became synonymous with the United States marine corps. During boot camp and MCT training, all marines were trained in the A2 irons in the new shorter PDW m16A2 block iiis from 2018 to present day. Recon units and some special infantry units would have an inventory of these PDWs for special purpose teams (light mechanized reconnaissance, CQB, VBSS) fitted with all sorts of optics, and mission dependent multipliers.
I’m not sorry for the long post. Fuel my obsession. Or if you’re a marine and can’t read enjoy the pictures.

Republicans team up to defeat longtime ‘restriction’ targeting gun owners: ‘Violation of the Second Amendment’
The bill, called the Repealing Illegal Freedom and Liberty Excises (RIFLE) Act, was announced on Wednesday. According to a press statement released by Cotton, the law "would remove a burdensome tax imposed on firearms regulated under the National Firearms Act."
The press release explains that the NFA has taxed the transfers of short-barreled shotguns and rifles and fully automatic firearms since 1934. The tax has been $200 since 1934, a sum that is equal to nearly $4,700 in 2024 dollars.
Specifically, the bill seeks to eliminate Section 5811 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, effectively repealing the transfer tax for all firearms regulated by the NFA.
I really wish it had any chance of passing, but it’s just performative politics..

2024.05.16 03:09 random_dude_bro How would you proceed from here given the following info?

How would you proceed from here given the following info?
I recently started reloading. I have a SPR-ish rifle chambered in 223wylde I started with. I watched my dad reload almost everything we ever shot growing up so I’m generally familiar, but this is my first time doing it by myself. I chose 70gr high bc bullets to attempt to bridge velocity and stability at distance. I sorted a falling prism in my optic, and I am now reassessing everything I tested previously. I watched the Hornady your groups are too Small podcast and expanded my load dev groups from 5 to 10 (not made of money for more) to ensure I don’t accidentally small sample bias myself. Barrel attitude has proven to be…interesting today.
1st group: Berger VLD 70gr-22.8gr AA2230 2710fps ES-70 SD-26 Bergers didn’t shoot for beans last time so I guess I’ll go rework all my berger loads. These were leftovers from previous workups. 2nd group: Nosler RDF 70gr-22.7gr AA2230 2735fps ES-60 SD-19 this was my “good” one from previously. Didn’t shoot so hot today. I played with bullet seating depth from 2.260, 2.255, 2.250. This was the best group. The deeper the bullet was seated the slower the chrono recorded it. 3rd group: Nosler RDF 70gr-25.5gr W748 2884fps ES-52 SD-16 this was a reshoot of a load I thought I shot bad last time…as you can tell…it isn’t great. I pulled the bolt and made sure there wasn’t any issues after this group. Not pictured: Nosler RDF 70gr-25.8gr W748 2927fps ES-54 SD-15 this went on paper in a 1.5MOA group last time I shot it, today i only got 7 of 15 shots on paper. I watched the impacts around the target. 4th group: Box ADI 69gr SMK 2816fps ES-29 SD-9 box ammo I shot to make sure it wasn’t me, and I didn’t break anything. Rifle seems to like the SMKs. 5th pic: Hornady 75gr BTHP-22.7 AA2230 2695fps ES-67 SD-18 this was a last limit toss together to see if it worked at all, which it seems to.
Of note, all brass is either LC23 or AAC for a load group. Primers are GM205M. Powders I have are: W748 AA2230 RL15 AA2520 I’m a dumbass and bought 1k RDF 70gr based off my last questionable data.

2024.05.16 02:32 Villainous_Intent The End of the Infinite (Aldin Death Post)

The End of the Infinite (Aldin Death Post)
Vindikar began to squeeze the trigger. The Assassin's Guild operator had never quite had such a difficult shot to make before.
He had faith in his rifle, his venerable Barret MGK82. The enchanted rifle was a one-of-a-kind custom-made firearm, precision made in the foundries of Valhalla by a long deceased Dwarven forge master. It's scope, another custom work dubbed "God's Tactical Eye Scope" (G.T.E.), could zoom in on any target the operator desired, regardless of distance.
But the coup de grâce was the bullet that currently sat in the rifle's chamber, ready to do its lethal work. It was a Black Thorn bullet, 1 of 3 given to the Assassin's Guild. Vindikar was well versed with a very wide range of magical ammunition, from enchanted armor piercing adamantine to hellfire explosive ammunition to infinite ricochet rounds when the employer wanted to send a chaotic and bloody message. But the Black Thorn was something *else. The contents of round contained pedals from a Black Rose, a flower said to have sprung from the Supreme Void Mother, Anafabula. It was promised to have the capability of killing a god...*
Vindikar had ended the lives of 200 or so beings in his time in the Guild. From petty little revenge plots to demigods and demonlords. But a full fledged god...a void god at that...well that was something else.
Intel suggested that Aldin may see the attempt coming despite the Guild doing its best to keep the operation a secret as per usual protocol. The problem lay with Aldin's omniscience. Simply put, he would see it coming through any conventional and most magical angles.
The shot would have to come from somewhere Aldin could not see, an angle he could not anticipate. Vindikar, a operator whose whole profession and artwork that relied on stone cold hard precision, had to rely on pure chance and luck to make a shot. He had to venture into Chaos' Realm, where the impossible was possible and vice versa.
This was not a realm any mortal should tread lightly but Vindikar had infiltrated expertly. In finding the perfect vantage point to fire on Aldin, all of the Assassin's abilities were tested to their extreme limits. Up was down, air was unbreathable, rations reverted to their base creatures, sneaking footsteps echoed like thunder. And that was before Vindikar had encountered the realm's...inhabitants.
Vindikar had found the perfect position after a lifetime epoch week of searching. The Assassin set up his rifle, his equipment feeling the effects of the constant reality warp. But. It. Stayed. True. Possibly due to the influence of the Black Thorn or so Vindikar hoped.
Vindikar found Aldin through his scope in the study of his library. "Blow out his heart" was the only specifics of this contract but the shadowy employer. The operator followed through with the trigger pull and the MGK82 went off.
The Black Thorn round exited the barrel. True to the Assassin's belief, the round scythed through the instability and Chaos of the Realm. It smashed its way through reality, Aldin unaware of his approaching doom until it broke through reality right in front of him and slammed right into his chest.
True to his mark, the Black Thorn round had blown out his heart. His divine blood splattered a fire burning in the hearth behind him. That fire would continue to burn a multicolored hue for the rest of time. Aldin fell to his knees, awe struck that his infinite life span cut short so abruptly. Divine blood gurgled from his throat as he collapsed forward.
Dead.

2024.05.16 02:23 rubenalamina Cassie items have been added to the vendor reset website

Hello guys, just a quick post to let you know that Cassie's stock has been added to my vendor reset site.
The current weekly thread to discuss items on sale can be found here. I'll be adding Danny Weaver's stock to that thread's comments as well.
Cassie will not show you the Shield Splinterer assault rifle or the Hunter Killer chest unless you have killed the original DC hunters and opened the ivory chest in the White House, and the WoNY hunters to open the off-white chest in Haven. Once you do that, she will have them for you.
To find Cassie's location you need to talk to The Snitch. Once you talk to him, Cassie will appear on the map as a shopping cart icon. My site has a map with more than 30 snitch locations you can check, he has a pretty high spawn rate. The bounty he gives you is not required to browse Cassie's stock, you can do it or save it for later in the bounties section of the map.
You can see when she is open or closed at any given time in The Division Timers website. It also has timers for all the other resets.

2024.05.16 01:51 gillkill8 [WTS] 18” AR upper, zev AR10 handguard

Timestamp: https://imgur.com/a/7i1xQ4x
This upper started as a PRI mk12 upper and slowly over the years it got modernized. Just to get it out of the way the upper and barrel have been cerakoted black, the upper had clearance issues following cerakote the the bottom surface had to be lightly sanded to fit the lower and the barrel has a previously used dimple from the ops collar and cosmetic marks in the cerakote, the rail also has a few small cosmetic blemishes. The charging handle was also slightly modified to work with a CMMG 22 conversion. Barrel has seen about 1200 rounds
The upper, BCG and barrel are original to when it was a MK12. I put a gas buster charging handle on it, low profile gas block, griffin dual lock PSR flash hider and a 13.5 FDE geissele mk4 rail on it that has a few magpul mlok covers. Shoot me a message if there are any questions regarding the upper

First / Previous / Royal Road / Patreon (Read 12 Chapters Ahead)

Alain kicked in the door to the gun store, and they all flooded in. There was nobody there, as expected, so that gave them free reign to take whatever they needed. Alain immediately stocked up on ammo for his revolver and shotgun, slotting cartridges into the spaces on his bandoleer and belt. All the other men did the same, and a few of them grabbed an extra gun as well.
"Everyone good?" Alain called. They all answered back in the affirmative, and he motioned for them to follow after him as he sprinted back outside.
The remaining undead had taken notice of them now, and were closing in once more. Their group opened fire as Sable and Az rushed forwards.
"Watch your fire!" Alain warned as rounds passed dangerously close to the two of them.
"What the hell are they doing?!" Rusty called.
"They're clearing a path for us!" Alain shouted back. "Come on, we need to-"
A pair of sickening gurgles from behind him caught his attention. Immediately, Alain turned around, and saw the two sheriff's deputies standing there, their hands thrust through the backs and out the chests of Jack and Redd. Rusty raised his rifle to try and engage, but he didn't get a chance to fire before one of the deputies drew his own revolver and put a round between his eyes. Alain could only watch in shock as he fell backwards, dead.
The two deputies pulled their arms out of their unfortunate victims, then shook them to get some of the blood off as they advanced on Alain and Felix. Both men took a step back as they shouldered their long guns.
"Deputies Timms and Brayton," Felix surmised, looking at each man in turn. "You know, I almost didn't want to believe it when Alain first told me you were involved with all of this. The sheriff put you up to it?"
Timms ran a hand through his beard, uncaring of how the blood and gore from his victim left a trail of slick red through it. "He told us what we stood to gain if we helped him. After learning about that, how could we refuse?"
"And what would that be?" Alain growled.
Brayton grinned, showing off yellow teeth as he twirled his revolver almost absentmindedly. "What do you think would coerce someone to sacrifice other people?"
"I don't know."
"Ah, well… it doesn't matter; you'll all be dead soon, anyway."
"So confident of that, are you?"
"I'm confident enough, we'll say." Brayton turned to Timms. "You take the bartender, I'll handle the drifter."
Timms nodded, and then before Alain knew what was happening, Brayton had rushed towards him. He just barely managed to avoid the incoming arm thrust, the deputy's fingers brushing against his shirt, tearing through the fabric with ease. Alain fell back, discharging his shotgun as he went; the load of buckshot struck Brayton in the chest, opening it enough to expose his blackened heart, and he stumbled back, but recovered quickly.
Brayton let out a low growl, then drew his revolver and began firing off shots. Alain was forced to dive for cover behind a nearby building to avoid the incoming shots. Just as he reached concealment, however, a series of moans from nearby caught his attention. He turned and found several undead moving towards him. Without missing a beat, Alain fired off the remaining shell in his shotgun, taking one out, and then held it in one hand as he drew his revolver and killed the other two with a series of well-placed shots.
Alain wasted no time in reloading his guns once the trio of undead had hit the ground. He broke his shotgun open and ripped the spent shells out, then shoved two fresh ones in and closed the weapon. Before he could cock the hammers back, however, the building behind him erupted in a shower of splinters, and Brayton came marching through.
"I must say, you're not making this easy," Brayton told him.
"I thought you would've learned that by now," Alain replied as he cocked the hammers back on his shotgun. "After all, I did plenty of damage to you two back in the jailhouse earlier."
"A shame it didn't last."
"This will."
Alain shouldered his weapon and fired both barrels in the same motion. To his dismay, Brayton was able to duck back into the destroyed building at the last minute, avoiding most of the buckshot; a few pellets lodged in his throat and face, but it wasn't nearly enough to kill him for good.
It did succeed in getting under his skin, though. Brayton stepped out of the building, a scowl etched across his face. Without missing a beat, he advanced on Alain's position, drawing his revolver and firing it as he went. Several shots rang out, and Alain felt a sudden, searing pain in his left shoulder; he turned and saw a bloody patch on his shirt that was growing more intense with every passing second. He only stared for a second though, then turned and began to run, desperate to put some distance between himself and Brayton.
"There's no point in hiding," Brayton answered as Alain ducked back into Felix's bar, stepping over a small mountain of undead corpses in the process. "I'll find you eventually."
Alain sat down behind the bar, then tore open his shirt to get a better look at the wound. Brayton's round had apparently nicked his artery; it wasn't spurting blood, but it was bleeding heavily. Alain didn't waste any time, instead tearing his cartridge belt off his waist and cinching it tight just above the wound as a makeshift tourniquet. He then forced himself back onto his feet, and with shaking hands, reloaded his shotgun as he looked around.
The undead horde seemed to have been thinned out substantially in this part of town. That led him to believe that Az and Sable had instead moved on to another part of town, most likely closer to the mines, and were working on clearing a path for the rest of them. That meant they'd be of no help to him anytime soon – they were almost certainly too busy fighting the undead to realize him and Felix needed help.
So the two of them were on their own. Alain grimaced as the thought crossed his mind.
He needed to take care of Brayton and Timms, and fast.
Alain vaulted over the bar, wincing when he felt the movement disturb the bullet in his shoulder slightly.
"Not doing anything like that again any time soon…" he muttered as he propped himself up against a wall next to the opening where the door had once stood, then peered out into town.
From here, he couldn't see either of the deputies, but he could still hear sporadic gunfire throughout town, along with the moans of the living corpses that were still walking around. Cautiously, Alain stepped out from behind cover, his shotgun already readied against his good shoulder. He looked around once more, trying to see where either of the deputies or Felix had ended up.
The click of a revolver's hammer being thumbed back struck his ears, and Alain hit the dirt just in time for the bullet to scrape across the top of his head, taking a few of his hairs with it.
There was little time to dwell on that, however, as another round came from out of the darkness soon after that one. Alain rolled to avoid it, and just barely managed to get out of the way in time for it to embed itself into the ground next to him. Dirt, pebbles, and bits of spall impacted against his back, but once again, he managed to avoid serious injury. A vein pulsed in his forehead, and Alain forced himself to stand up before firing off two shotgun blasts towards where he thought the shots came from. He was rewarded with the sound of buckshot impacting against flesh, and knew he'd hit his target.
Before Brayton could have time to recover, Alain slung his shotgun and drew his revolver, then advanced upon his position. Sure enough, Brayton was busy pulling himself up off the ground; Alain emptied his revolver's cylinder into the deputy's head. Blood, bone, and bits of brain arced through the air, staining the ground and the nearby wall with a macabre mixture of crimson, white, and gray. By the end of it, the deputy's head had been sheared almost in half, with the remnants of his brain exposed to the outside world.
Alain stood there, wisps of smoke curling up from the end of his revolver's barrel. That should have been it for Brayton – no mortal would have been able to survive something like that.
Unfortunately, Brayton was no mere mortal. He let out a shuddering breath, then began to lurch forward. His movements were sluggish and slow, and there was a dull expression of pain on his face, but he was still alive. Alain paused at the sight of it, his eyes wide with surprise.
"Oh, you've gotta be fucking kidding me."
That was all he managed to get out before Brayton raised his revolver once again. Alain dove for cover; the bullet scraped across his lower back, just a few inches away from his spine. He scrambled to his feet, and only once he was back up did he realize that in the confusion, he'd dropped his revolver.
Alain went to reload his shotgun, but found that he was once again out of shells. He let out a muffled curse, then looked around for something he could use. Sable had told him that there were three ways to kill wights – removing the head, destroying the brain, and…
Alain's gaze landed on a nearby lantern hanging from an abandoned shop, swinging precariously from a rope. Even from here, he could see oil sloshing around inside it. A manic grin crossed his face, and he immediately made a mad dash for it. He got lucky – the deputy was caught in the middle of a reload, and was unable to shoot him. Alain ripped the lantern off the building, then hurled it at Brayton; it shattered on impact, coating him with oil. Once that was done, Alain reached into his pocket and retrieved a match.
"Mom always said those cigarettes couldn't be good for me," he said to himself as he struck the match against the building, lighting it. He turned toward the deputy, still coated in oil, and his eyes narrowed.
"I wonder what she'd say if she could see this."
He flicked the lit match towards Brayton, watching as it soared through the air. The flame made impact with the oil-slick deputy, and he caught alight immediately. An inhuman screech erupted from Brayton's throat, loud enough that Alain winced and had to cover both his ears. Brayton fell to the ground, his revolver dropping against the dirt and discharging harmlessly into the air as he rolled to try and put out the fire, but it was no use. In a matter of seconds, his movements stopped completely, his body reduced to little more than a charred corpse.
That wasn't enough for Alain. He sprinted over to where his Colt had fallen, retrieved it, and emptied the cylinder into what was left of Brayton's head, just for good measure. The body didn't even twitch as the rounds made impact, and by the end of it, his head had been reduced to little more than a jawbone still attached to the neck. Alain stood there for a moment, panting from exertion, before letting his arm fall.
Footsteps took him by surprise, and he rounded on them, only to relax when he saw that it was Felix, and he was apparently completely unharmed. The two exchanged a glance, and Felix's eyes widened.
"Shit…" he breathed. "What happened to you? You're covered in blood."
"I killed Brayton."
"Yes, I can see that. But did you have to put yourself through a meat grinder to do it?"
"Is Timms dead?" Alain asked.
"Yeah, he's done."
"How'd it happen?"
"I shot him in the head a bunch with my rifle. Why didn't you just do that to Brayton?"
Alain just scowled. Before he could reply, there were more footsteps – they both looked over and saw Sable and Az approaching. Both of them seemed a lot worse for wear, sporting more grievous injuries than they had before. Still, as Sable approached, her eyes widened when she saw Alain lying there.
"What happened to him?" she asked.
"Got shot," he grunted. "Hey, you needed blood, right?"
"Well, yes, but-"
Alain didn't wait to hear anything else, instead loosening his tourniquet. The blood began to flow once more, and he motioned towards his shoulder.
"Help yourself for a bit."
Sable went red in the face, but her shame didn't stop her. She immediately moved over to him, then latched onto the wound on his shoulder and began to drink. Alain winced when he felt her teeth lock into him and her tongue begin to lap up his blood, but he didn't stop her.
"I'm gonna be sick…" Felix said, bringing a hand up to cover his mouth as he watched the display in front of him.
Thankfully, Sable pulled herself away shortly after latching onto him. Alain turned towards her, and was surprised to see that many of her wounds were healed, though not all of them. Before he could inquire further about that, Sable began tearing strips off her gore-soaked dress, taking care to search for the few clean parts only, then wrapped his wound with them.
"You need a doctor," she declared. "But for now, that'll have to do. You can sit this one out if-"
"Stop," Alain managed to get out. "I'm not missing this. Help me up."
"Alain-"
"I said, help me up."
Sable hesitated, but ultimately obliged, pulling him to his feet. Alain stumbled a bit, lightheaded from pain and blood loss, but managed to maintain his footing. He slung his shotgun and reloaded his revolver, then turned back to the rest of them.
"Alright," he said. "To the mines."

2024.05.16 00:49 Left-Albatross-7375 Grendel or ARC

I’m stuck building my upper. I’m really wanting super lightweight, do it all rifle in either 6arc or Grendel. I would probably punch paper with it quite a bit but it would used for large whitetail to elk realistically less than 400 yard (more like 100 to 200 typically for me). I want to do a pin weld route as I don’t want to stamp it nor do I want a pistol brace. My concern would be ballistics primarily. I know both cartridges like the longer barrels so I need enough power out at range. I could not find any data for a 14.5 Grendel and a tiny bit on the arc. Also ammo availability is always a concern. Help me decide guys. Need some real Grendel fans to give me some advice.
Photo is a Rexus ultra bolt I purchased to try out.

2024.05.16 00:36 -nugi- Kind've bummed

Visited the local store and realized that building a 10/22 last year cost me 1.5x what a BXR goes for to more or less do the same thing...
I got a cool Beyer barrel, the magpul stock, a 20moa rail, a tier 3 Brimstone trigger. I like the rifle but not sure it was worth it

2024.05.15 23:50 Extra_Handle_3291 [SELL] 18650 storage tubes for b5 sopmod stocks and some cool grips (MD)

Last chance to get orders in before I go out of town! Orders in tonight and tomorrow will be sent out by Saturday!
https://imgur.com/a/uEmwqoq
As usual PM if you have any questions! https://imgur.com/a/yV3l47M
Hey everyone! I’ve got some sweet new stuff and of course more Sopmod tubes in stock.
https://outofsightsolutions.myshopify.com/
New stuff first: Wedge picatinny barricade stop- pretty aggressive and sharp stop for bashing into barricades for stability
Diamond handstop/barricade stop
Mlok much less aggressive hand and barricade stop this can be flipped either way one way for a nice small low profile handstop and the other way to put against a barrier for extra stability
I’ve got a new grip “Mostly Vertical Grip for Mlok” it’s exactly as the title states, mostly vertical it’s got a nice slight Bend which works great for those who mostly use grips as a handstop or similar(myself included) I kinda use it half regular grip half handstop and to make it nice and grippy even when your sweaty or wet, I created a mild texture on both sides that grips well for barehands and I’m sure even better with gloves. It also has some grooves cut into the front and back for added texture. As of right now it is MLOK only but am working on a pic version as we speak.
https://imgur.com/a/iuKuNCP
$17 for the mostly vertical grip
Old stuff: I still have the “banana grip” but it is now available for BOTH mlok and pic rails. The mlok is my choice just because it has such great flush fitment with most rails. This grip also is textured just more on the light end. It has a much more curved design which really feels great to pull the rifle into your shoulder. It is also NOT VERTICAL in anyway so you can throw this on a pistol and tell the ATF to kick rocks. The banana grip is also $17 for mlok OR picatinny
https://imgur.com/a/AQbqxn3 BANANA GRIP PICS^
And lastly
Good ole 18650 storage tubes for b5 Sopmod stocks. These have come a long way from my first versions. My first versions worked well, but since acquiring some new hardware for my printer I’m able to print these much better which gives more room for variation in 18650 battery films. Some films are thicker than others and this varies brand to brand. When I first came out with these I had trouble fitting my USB built in streamlight 18650. It fit it was just a bit tight, now it slides right in with ease. These are water resistant and hold up well when stored in the stock. You can fit 2 standard 18650 batteries or whatever other goodies you like.
The storage tubes are $20 a piece or $30 for 2. The discount does not show up until you add 2 to your cart.

Everything I have listed here is on my site and in stock right now. If you would prefer to do a private sale that is cool with me! I take PayPal g&s or F&F whatever you prefer. Just comment on here that your interested and I’ll send a PM asap. Otherwise my site is listed in the beginning and end of this post.
ALL OF THESE DESIGNS AND PRODUCTS ARE 100% my design and creation. I manufacture these parts at home with quality materials that are durable. While I strive for the highest quality possible when manufacturing these, there are sometimes defects visually that occur. These have no impact to the product and I always check every single part for function and fitment before it arrives to you. If you have any questions about my products feel free to message me or leave a comment I’m happy to answer! If there is something that you’d like to see me make or you have an idea I’m all ears!

2024.05.15 22:27 SSGOldschool A three day review of the M7 Spear

TLDR:
At the small post we were on, the 25m zero range and qual range SDZ's did not allow for firing these rifles. Something we only learned after confirming our zeros on the 25m range.
It's still heavy, but after a day or so you stop noticing it until you have to shoot from a standing position or doing are doing CQB. then you are painfully reminded how off balance the rifle is.
The two sample rifles we had were consistently 3 MOA guns.
The non-reciprocating charging handle on the left side is not as cool as I initially thought, and it ruins the whole "truly ambidextrous" feel that the Sig MCX line has.
The folding buttstock can go fuck itself.
A review of the 277 Fury rounds is here and you may need to read it for some context, but I have endeavored to make this review stand alone as much as possible.
Over the course of three days, a friend of mine and I lived with the M7 Spear. We spent time at various ranges, doing "tactical stuff", getting in and out of HMMWV's and GSA's, while trying to figure out the ins-and-outs of the rifle.
My sample, #087, had between 8K and 10K round rounds through it. The number of combat vs training rounds was not tracked, but given the expected barrel life is 10K combat rounds we ran a borescope through the barrel and the chamber to see what we could see.
His sample, #529, had between 6K and 8K of an unknown mix combat and training rounds through it. We ran the borescope through it as well.
There was no real difference in the wear between the two rifles.
We spent the morning of the first day playing around with the ammunition and doing comparisons against 308 168gr SMK, while the ultrasonic cleaner did Gods work on the various bits and bobs of our sample rifles.
Note when we did the ammo comparison we used a Remington 700PSS with 24" barrel. It quickly became apparent when we were testing the rifles, that was a poor benchmark, as the Remington outperformed both rifles in everything but rate of fire. Its a sniper rifle, granted its your Grandfather's sniper rifle, but its still a fucking sniper rifle. The Spear is not, its a battlerifle, and so I won't be including the comparisons here.
We tried cleaning them without the ultrasonic cleaner...but I'm not sure these rifles had ever been properly cleaned before.
I've got mixed feelings about the MCX system. It ticks a lot of boxes, short stroke gas piston, no need for a buffer tube or spring, superior handling of gas when suppressed and so on.
However, when it comes down to the nitty-gritty of the maintenance? I absolutely despise it. Despite owning a MCX in 300 blackout myself, every cleaning session feels overly complex and time consuming.
We kicked off the afternoon with both rifles, setting up for grouping and zeroing—my rig was outfitted with the Tango 6T sporting the "Hellfire" reticle in MOA, resembling your standard rifle scope setup. His, on the other hand, featured the same Tango 6T but with Hellfire in MILS, decked out with the Christmas tree reticle.
Some time back, I made a comment after my initial rounds with the Spear, labeling it a "tack driver." In hindsight, I probably should have clarified that bit. Typically, when shooting a new rifle, if I land three out of five shots within a 1 to 1.5 MOA spread, I chalk up any outliers to user error rather than blaming the rifle or the ammunition.
However, it appears that assumption was a bit off.
Our zeroing and grouping efforts at 100 yards turned into quite the saga. We found ourselves mostly hitting 3 rounds within the 1 to 1.5 MOA range, but occasionally, one or two shots would balloon the group size to between 2.5 and 3 MOA.
Instead of descending into frustration and stubborn attempts to tighten these groups, we opted to settle for anything under three MOA as acceptable for our purposes and proceeded to finalize our zero.
Side note, my last zero group was my best of the day coming it at just over 2 MOA. My friends best group came in at 1.8, and quite honestly he's a better shot than I am.
Research shows that the original specs for the NGSW called for a 4 MOA battle rifle. Despite some noticeable barrel wear on our two test models, both rifles still performed beyond this requirement.
Following our grouping and zeroing session, we spent the remainder of the afternoon plinking with training rounds at 100 yards.
During this, I learned a hard lesson about the non-reciprocating charging handle—it needs to be firmly locked forward before hitting the bolt release on the left side. After a couple of painful mishaps and a few close calls, I finally caught on and made it a routine to ensure the handle was properly set before engaging the bolt release.
I really wanted to get on board with the side charging handle, but after three days, I'm just not a fan. It tended to snag on my gear (Eagle MARCRIS plate carrier) when maneuvering or positioning the rifle to fire, making it less convenient than I had hoped.
Interestingly, I found myself using it more during offhand shooting. I'd instinctively remove my left hand from the pistol grip to work the side charging handle, rather than using my right hand on the traditional top charging handle. Yes, I'm aware this breaks the cardinal rule of keeping your firing hand on the grip, but this method felt more intuitive, similar to operating a bolt-action rifle.
When shooting offhand, the rifle scores highly. I don't often shoot this way, but I encountered none of the usual drawbacks associated with traditional AM platforms. Aside from the tricky side charging handle, the rifle seemed inherently designed for ambidextrous use, which I particularly appreciated when firing left-handed.
I was tempted to launch into a tirade about the ridiculously designed folding stock, but you deserve a more structured critique. Here are the three major gripes:
The stock's release mechanism is a convoluted affair involving an awkward dance of pushing down on the rifle while yanking up on the buttstock just to get it to close.
Once "closed," the stock doesn't truly secure—it juts out at a precarious 20-degree angle, seemingly relying on mere friction to stay in place, which neither of our samples managed successfully.
The overall build felt flimsy and loose, perhaps a consequence of the extensive wear from firing 8,000 to 10,000 rounds.
After wrestling with these issues, we wrapped up with a quick cleaning session for the rifles before heading out to the range we’d "camping" at.
The next day, we arrived ready to group, zero, and qualify with a local unit. We had informed them of our visit and assumed everything was squared away with range control.
However, that assumption fell flat. Turns out, the range’s surface danger zones weren’t set up for the 277 Fury. Just as we finished dialing in our zero (.75 inches low at 25m), range control showed up, questioning our activities.
Following an awkward exchange and the diplomatic offering of a case of beer, they agreed to let us continue and even served as OIC and RSO for the KD range. We proceeded with the old KD qualification, alternating between marking and raising targets, and both of us qualified without any issues.
With some extra time on our hands, and much to the amusement of range control, the session evolved into a lively mix of burpees and sprinting between shooting positions. We experimented with various firing positions and sequences, such as starting from standing unsupported at 100 yards and moving down to kneeling unsupported. This exercise underscored the rifle’s heft yet manageability, while also highlighting how the forward-heavy balance made extended unsupported shooting particularly taxing on the arms and upper back.
The afternoon unfolded with battledrills and land navigation alongside the unit we were scheduled to qualify with. Given the theoretical roles and limited numbers, the platoon leader assigned us to the designated marksman/squad designated marksman roles, which was logical considering we were the only ones equipped with the new rifles while the rest of the squad used M4s.
This setup sparked an intense discussion among the officers about how tactical deployment might shift once the rifle was fully integrated into service. There was plenty of speculation on how military tactics and doctrines would need to adapt to leverage the new capabilities offered by this rifle.
However, I'm somewhat skeptical. I don't see this rifle as the revolutionary game-changer it’s touted to be. While it's undoubtedly suited for the designated marksman role, I doubt the Army will invest the necessary time, money, and resources to train every soldier to this level of proficiency. Consider that there are reserve units that only qualify every four years, often just to help "point-needy" soldiers piggyback for qualification. This rifle won’t alter that reality.
As for the night qualification, we were slated to test that as well, but circumstances didn’t allow for it, so I can’t comment on how the rifle performs at night with night vision devices.
On the third morning, we headed to the LMG range, ready to go full-auto from a bipod, gearing up to tackle the 249 qualification.
Honestly, this was the most amazing shooting experience I've had in ages. The only snag was the 20-round magazine capacity, which felt limiting amid the thrill—it was the only moment of frustration in an otherwise splendid session.
We ran a practice session with the training rounds, followed by a qualification shoot with both the training and combat rounds. By lunchtime, our shoulders were thoroughly sore, but I can't remember the last time I'd grinned that much in a long while.
Post-lunch, we dropped in on some local law enforcement officers who were operating a shoot house. Initially, we navigated the course with M4s to familiarize ourselves with the layout and safety protocols. After getting a handle on things, we switched to the M7s, running through the course using the last of our training rounds, having depleted our combat rounds earlier on the machine gun range.
Both of us found ourselves moving significantly slower with the M7s. Reviewing the footage, it was clear that I was painfully slow to get on target with the M7. It wasn't just about slower movements, but also a delayed response in engagement. Initially, I chalked it up to age, I'm over 50 and a bit heavier than ideal, but the reality struck when I saw I wasn’t this slow with the M4. In fact, I was quicker than some of the officers.
Similarly, my buddy was slower than usual, not lagging behind me, but certainly off his usual pace with the M4.
Interesting side note: We're no longer welcome at that shoot house. The staff was fully aware of our arrival and what we brought along, and everything seemed fine until the exercise wrapped up and we faced some "constructively harsh feedback" about 277 and damage done to the tire and sandbag walls as well as the plywood target backers.
That's rant for another time.
Regarding the suppressor:
It's really more of an enhanced flash hider than a true suppressor. I'm probably a bit biased—shooting a 300 Blackout through a Sig TI suppressor spoils you with its movie hitman silence.
By comparison, the M7 setup was louder than my suppressed .308 shooting 175gr SMK.
On the topic of the optic:
The Tango6 was decent.
The clarity was impressive, and its brightness and MOA configuration were points in its favor.
However, achieving a consistent cheek weld and finding the right optic position for proper eye relief across magnifications 1 through 6, especially from unsupported positions, proved challenging.
The issue could be me, the stock, or the optic itself. While it was somewhat bothersome, it wasn't enough to cause significant frustration.
