I’m 18. My favorite genre is rap as I’ve grown up on it. But I also listen to R&B, nu metal, death metal, black metal, alternative rock, and EDM. The first R&B song I listened to was Crazy In Love by Beyoncé in my mom’s car when I was 7 (she is a huge fan of her and Destiny’s Child). I didn’t really care too much for the song though. Then when I was 13 I discovered Because Of You by Ne-Yo after hearing it on a YouTube video. Then I discovered Birthday Sex by Jeremih and Don’t by Bryson Tiller. These were the only R&B songs I knew, and Don’t really leans towards rap, which is why I fucked with it like that.
Then last year, I listened to Jeremih’s full self titled album and was really fucking with it. I had some of the songs on repeat and would play them in between the trap songs I typically listen to. Then I discovered more Ne-Yo, as well as acts like Babyface, Eamon, and Usher.
I don’t really listen to 2020s R&B like SZA or Brent Faiyaz because it sounds too poppy to me, although lots of people I know like that shit. R&B overall is my 3rd favorite genre (nu metal is my 2nd favorite)

I (29M) went no contact with my dad about 6 months ago…
A little backstory about dad. He’s had a somewhat difficult life. He immigrated here from vietnam as a teenager in the 70’s around the time the US pulled out of the war. He was adopted by a family in a very small town in Tennessee. i’m sure dealt with bullies, racism and being socially ostracized at school (this was a backwoods bible belt HS in the 70’s/80’s) but he made it through. He had a terribly traumatic experience as a teen where he accidentally killed his younger cousin while playing with a gun, which I know for a fact still haunts him to this day. After he graduated, he served in the navy for a couple years, went to college, met/married my mom, became a citizen, had my older sister, started a career in engineering, and had me six years later.
We had a good relationship when I was a kid. He’d take me fishing, ride bikes, soccer games. My mom divorced him when I was in second grade. He moved across town into a furnished basement where my grandma (his mom) lived upstairs. it was honestly not a bad spot at all.. but our relationship started to deteriorate around this time. The custody arrangement was he got me and my sister every thursday and every other weekend
bc of the divorce, i had to change schools in 3rd grade, leave my childhood friends behind, and start a new life. Mind you, i was a very shy child. I went to a small town school where everyone’s parents grew up with each other, went to church together, went to everyone’s birthdays, holidays, ect. My mom is from new york and my dads an immigrant, so I had a hard time fitting in and making friends right off the bat. I didn’t understand this at the time, and thought I was just destined to be a weird kid, bottom of the social totem pole.
I did not do well in school, and this is about where the rift in our relationship started. Dad is very old school, he was a big fan of corporal punishment and used it liberally. if he thought I was being a smartass, back talked, disobeyed, or came home with bad grades (which was often) he would scream, smack me in the face, spank (with bare hands or a belt depending on his mood) and made sure HE was the consequences for my actions. Mind you, I was not a bad kid. I was shy, quiet, and just wanted to fit in. I was not a class clown, i didn’t get in much trouble, i was honestly afraid of drawing attention to myself. I internalized much of my anxiety. But the grades and the “back talking” (which looking back was just me sticking up for myself against him) were enough to bring out his most abusive characteristics. I remember one time in 4th grade, I was having trouble with my math homework. I stayed up for hours trying to finish. when I told him i was tired and didn’t want to do it anymore , he stood up and smacked me so hard i fell out of my chair. i still remember how my head was throbbing in paid going to bed that night
middle school was not much better. grades were C average at best. I started growing my hair out, got into skateboarding, wore black clothes, listened to heavy music and rap, started smoking weed in 7th grade. i made friends with the other social reject skater kids at my school, and honestly made a lot of great memories from back then. relationship with dad got exponentially worse. then one day in 8th grade, a week before summer vacation, someone told on me for having weed in my locker, and i was expelled. this obviously caused an uproar with dad. i once again had to give up all the friends i made and any social life i managed to cultivate during those years.
so my freshman year, i had the choice of either home school or alternative school, which my parents chose home schooling for me. i’d go to work with mom and do my schoolwork on a laptop in a spare office. the only social life i had was a girlfriend a met on myspace (really showing my age here lol). she lived in the next county over so i was allowed to see her some weekends, but i broke up with her at the end of the year.
fast forward to sophomore year, i’m back at public school. gave up skateboarding and took up guitar. still had a hard time making friends, still got yelled at for poor grades, but i was able to have a car and a job, and i started smoking weed again. dad found makeshift bowls a couple times and i got yelled at for that too. wound up graduating as a C average student, so apparently all those beatings i took as a kid for my grades didn’t help at all (i know, shocker)
as a young adult, much to my dads ire, i decided i wanted to pursue music as a performer. it was my passion all through middle and high school, and i thought i had a gift for it. so i worked at restaurants and construction jobs while pursuing music on the side for years until i was able to quit my job and start performing full time, making more money than most of my peers who went to college and worked normal jobs. dad discouraged me the whole time
in 2019 dad helped me out by co-signing for a car. i wanted a cheap beater i could run into the ground, but he convinced me i needed more reliable transportation. i’m pretty sure he thought this was his way to make me quit music and get a real job so i could make the payments/insurance, but it was around this time i was starting to book way better, higher paying gigs. it wound up working out just fine
2020 comes around, pandemic hits, and i go from playing 5-7 nights a week to zero. had to call an old construction boss and to go back to work. he put me on a job out of town where i stayed 5 nights a week at the job site, came back home to the spot i was renting on the weekends. i really struggled that year financially and mentally, i missed a few car payments that year, but paid what i could. dad would call me every now and then demanding i make my payments, tell me i’m ruining his credit (he has a great job and makes plenty of money btw), and basically making me feel like an absolute dead beat as if there was no pandemic and the only reason i’m falling behind is bc of my life choices.
well, things opened back up, i went back to playing music full time in 2021, and got caught back up on my payments. dad still thinks i’m wasting my life away, that i should go to college or trade school and get a real job.
fast forward to 2023, my girlfriend and i decide we want to move to south florida. there’s a ton of bars and restaurants i can perform at, make way more money, and my girlfriend is very attractive so we figured she would do good serving tables on the beach. we spent all year renting a shitty trailer on some guys property in our hometown so we could save money to move. we managed to save about $15k and started looking for apartments in ft. lauderdale. once this started becoming a reality, i told my dad when i was visiting one day about our plans, and his reaction (predictably) was to mention everything that could go wrong. it’s expensive, there’s hurricanes, there’s lots of ppl down there trying to do music so what makes you think YOU can, it gets hot in the summer.
it was at that moment i decided i don’t need him in my life anymore. his negativity is infectious, he has never been supportive or encouraging of anything i’ve wanted to do in my life, he is the voice in my head that makes me doubt myself, he’s the reason that even with all i’ve been able to accomplish as a musician, i find it difficult to feel proud of myself. he spent my entire childhood/teen years crushing my spirit and destroying my self esteem
before i moved, i had a back-and-forth with him on messenger, explaining all the ways his behavior, actions, and abuse have affected me over the years. his response was to essentially deny all of it, accuse me of cherry picking, called me ungrateful, and hit me with the classic “sorry i’m not perfect”
that was our last conversation. now i’m living in ft. lauderdale with my beautiful girlfriend. we’ve been sober for almost a full year, my calendar is full of gigs, we’re making more money than we’ve ever made between her serving tables and me playing music. i feel great about where i am in life
i feel guilty and sometimes i get really depressed thinking about my dad. i still have a hard time making friends as an adult, i feel like the self hatred i inherited from him caused me to miss out on a lot of experiences in my most formative years. i have difficulty opening up to people. i know in some twisted way, my dad cares about me. he did his best, but his best was not great, and at this point i think he’s too old and stuck in his ways to make any meaningful changes that could recover our relationship

Yes this is an alternative account and I decided to create it for an obvious reason (a.k.a: too ashamed to post it on main one) but bear with me as I try to convince you that there's a real person behind this wall of text.
Birthday is less than one month ahead and whenever I get to this period of the year I can't avoid but feel a deep loneliness taking over and just sink into gloom. That's my attempt to fight it somehow and maybe surround myself with cool people that can paint a rainbow over those grey days.

I seem to recall that JB was Edgar Cayce for Halloween a few years ago. Is this true?
If so, this confirms so much about him and the band itself.
I am a lightweight Cayce scholar. I have read many books about the man and believe he was a healer and a prophet. We all have this gift, too but I digress.
I was enlightened to Cayce in 2007. I was going through a crisis and one of my best friends tossed me a book and said, "read this." The booked landed directly in my lap, it was a biography on Cayce. I knew instantly I was going to read this cover to cover. I did, nonstop. I was enchanted by Cayce's story and his life.
This brings me to 10/30/07 (Chattanooga). The girl that was the catalyst for my crisis bought me tickets as a birthday present. Chattanooga is my hometown but I do not reside there. We broke up about 6 weeks before the show but she mailed me the tickets and I took the guy that gave me the Cayce book.
Without question, this is one of my top 3 favorite shows. I know its subjective and I have seen a bunch of shows since 95 all over the southeast, including all the shows in Chattanooga starting in 95.
Anyway, Cayce's book and all the other stuff I was consuming about Cayce was all over my brain and I kept thinking if the band is aware of this guy, Cayce. So many people had never heard of him because I would bring him up in conversation all the time.
But during the Diner rap, JB was painted the picture of someone who had been brought up right twice...100,000 lifetimes, he brought up right many times. Cayce gave past life readings to people and taught that souls have existed on many earth planes. There were references to Houser in the rap, too. "I know a boy whos no longer with us here on this earth."
Perhaps I'm reading too much into this. I know the guys are some enlightened cats but that night was special. Again, totally subjective but I wanted to ask and to share, and if you haven't listened to that show please do. And if you were there in Chattanooga on Halloween eve, please share you opinion of that show.

Around 2015 I think, there was this ad that would air on tv that me and my friend would joke about. It was an ad for some kind of baby or toddler product, and it had a song over it that was a bit like a rap. Here are the lyrics that I remember;
"We're toddlers, aged 1 to 3. Party at my birthday bash, dance so hard got/get nappy rash. Moving at lightning speed (?), I've got nutritional needs (?)" then, toward the end of the song, it was something like "We're only toddlers, yoto(?) is how we say it" and that's all I remember.
For the visuals, it was live action, but I think that there was drawings over some parts of it. Like for "moving at lightning speed" there was little lightning sparks off a baby crawling or something.
For more context, I was in Ireland, and it was most likely airing on Cartoon Network, although I'm not sure about that, and I'm pretty much certain it wasn't a dream or anything because me and my friend would make jokes about it and me and my brother had a debate if 1-3 was the age range of a toddler. If any more info is needed or if anyone has any record of this, please let me know!

So, I (17F) and my best friend (16F) have grown up together and been friends our whole lives. We’ve definitely had some arguments but this was a pretty big one. She invited me a few months ago to go to a rap concert with her as my graduation present. I’ve been preparing for this concert by listening to the artist more often and buying an outfit specifically to wear at the concert. She also recently had her parents buy us tickets to another pop concert since that is what she wants to do for her birthday. I made her aware that could not pay her or her parents for those tickets at this point, but I could save money up to pay them back. She did not spend any of her own money towards these tickets, but it is her only birthday gift from her parents. Then, the other day, she texted me and asked me if she could take a guy she’s been talking to to the rap concert instead of me. I was hurt that she asked me that and explained to her that I had been preparing for the concert and was really looking forward to going. I told her I would really like to go with her since we had been planning on it. She then said that since her family paid for the pop concert, that would be my graduation gift instead. She also told me that since they were her tickets she was free to do what she likes with him. That is true, but I feel that since she invited me originally, it was rude to uninvite me for someone else. We got into a big argument about it and are still not speaking. AITAH?

I think it’s obvious that, while I’ve never lied to my dad and my brother about something big before, I haven’t told either of them about the animals at the zoo and I’m not planning on it. Even if they believed me, that would actually be worse than thinking I was being foolish by working here. If my dad knew what kind of animals the zoo had, he’d freak out, whether or not there were invisible walls to protect me. In and of itself, my father would demand I quit on the spot if he found out about my hourly rate because it was obvious that there was something about this job that warranted it.
So, I opened a savings account at the bank, and when I deposited the check, I put half in that account. That lowered the chances of my dad finding out how much money I was pulling in.
It wasn’t as if I had anything huge to spend the money on anyway, though. Dad had been thrilled with $25/hr. when I got the job, and we’d already started spending some of that first paycheck on new clothes and little house repairs and such. Money has always been tight, and we live in a three-bedroom house, with my dad graciously having taken the smallest room (which was kind of a catchall storage room up until then) once my brother and I wanted separate rooms when we hit our teenage years.
My mom isn’t in the picture, if you’re curious. She worked as a wildlife photographer, and was so good at it that she’d get paid to go off to remote places in Africa. For months at a time. As if we don’t have animals in America, right? But even when she was here, it always felt like she was distracted, wanting to go back to work. Like she cared more about the animals than about us. Say what you want about me, but I like animals more than people, I don’t love them more. I don’t even think of her as mom anymore; in my brain, she’s Patricia.
When I was nine and my brother Stanley was two, she basically left and never came back. Doesn’t even send postcards. For all I know, she’s dead, and the most meaningful thing I ever got from her was my passion for caring about other animals. I got into it early because of Patricia, and then practically every birthday or Christmas present was some book or movie or toy about wildlife. But that’s all she did for us besides financial support. My dad is a real rock in my life, and I count myself lucky I got at least one good parent.
When Patricia ditched us, I started to help out financially when I was younger by working odd jobs, and then real jobs when I hit sixteen. Stanley is sixteen now, and he’s been working at Hanks Hardware for a few months, which meant now it was all three of us pulling in money. But Stanley only makes $10/hr., working four hours after school and then eight hours on Saturday, so my $25/hr. literally doubled our household income. When I’d gotten the job, I told Dad and Stanley that I wanted Stanley to quit his job, and that I’d give him an allowance, $80 a week, which was what he'd be using for pocket money if he’d still been working.
Getting that time back would be huge for Stanley, because it would let him spend more time on his schoolwork. Not just to bring up his grades; he would literally be learning more. And he’s a junior now, doing things like taking a computer class to learn Microsoft Office. Living in a small town limits your options, and knowledge broadens them. I know that much for sure.
Not to mention, he could actually be a teenager, do the stuff kids did. Go see a movie, hang out with his friends at the bleachers and smoke pot, and head out to the lake to swim when the weather warmed up and have a genuinely fun summer instead of having a forty hour work week. And most important, playing video games. I know that sounds strange, but Stanley loves video games and plays online on the TV in the living room. But he hardly ever has time to play, which means sometimes he’ll stay up too late enjoying himself and fall asleep the next day during his first period class. Dad and I never have the heart to tell him to go to bed, though.
My father was uneasy about Stanley quitting, mostly because of the hypothetical of my job falling through. And Dad didn’t even know about the possibility of there being some terrifying incident with an animal, which might cause me such anxiety that I wouldn’t be able to push past it and would end up needing to quit. I really didn’t think that was likely after I’d managed to mostly get over my paralyzing fear of Yui, but I yielded to his logic and we negotiated. Stanley decided to switch to three hours three days a week and four hours on Saturdays.
Little did they know that not only was I was saving up for my own impending student loan payments, but my savings account would cover a most or maybe all of the cost of any college or trade school Stanley wanted to attend when he graduated. I was so happy about that, I don’t have the words. Half of my income is $25/hr. and for eight hours a day will be $52k a year, all of it put in my savings account. Before taxes, but still, that is fantastic money. I’ll have to come clean eventually, when Stanley started filling out FAFSA forms next year, and I’ll probably tell my dad that I was pretty sure they’re running drugs out of the back of the zoo or something. He’ll be so pissed, but that’s over a year away and I’ll burn that bridge when I came to it.
So, in general, I’ve been enjoying working at the zoo and depositing those paychecks. Call me a cynic, but inevitably, that meant something had to go wrong.
After settling in for my shift a few minutes before 9 p.m., Andrew bid me farewell and headed home. He’d just done one last walk of the zoo, so I took out a book and resumed where I’d left off, planning to do a sweep in an hour. I do have some enrichment planned for one of the animals, but I’d had to order something online and it won’t arrive for a few days.
Shortly after my second ramble around on my route to check every enclosure at the zoo, however, I got a text from my brother.

Gary and Shaun are going to the zoo. They want to try to see the animals.

I closed my eyes in annoyance. Gary and Shaun were two sort-of friends of Stanley’s, the middling kind of friend that you sit with at lunch and hang out with at parties but you’ve never actually been to their home. I knew Stanley had been bragging to his friends about my new job. Well, I guessed. He’d told me and Dad at the dinner table that his friends were impressed with my job, and I figured the fact that his sister had a college degree and had started work at $25/hr. was bragging material, especially when it meant Stanley could work fewer hours.
The idea that some of his friends would want to come check out the zoo hadn’t occurred to me, because I’d come at it logically: The zoo was closed to outsiders. Appointment only. And none of them would ever get an appointment, because they were human. But if anything, the rules that restricted them had probably made it a more enticing idea. Also, Stanley said it the zoo on Google Maps at this point, but that it was blurred out. Andrew told me that had been by request (anyone can do it actually), but I’m sure that made the temptation even worse.
Obviously I wasn’t going to let them in, but I didn’t want them to cause trouble, and they were teenagers. Teenagers tend to cause trouble as a general rule. The last thing I wanted was to have to tell Andrew that they’d shown up at the gate intent on visiting the zoo because my brother had talked it up so much. Not that Stanley knew what this place really housed, but still, Andrew had been so stern on no photography of Leila that I would’ve been embarrassed if I had to call the cops because of something like this.
My reply was curt.

Tell those dipshits the place is closed to walk-ins. I’m not letting them in.
I did. They want to go anyway.

I facepalmed and sighed before replying.

If you can’t talk them out of it, just don’t go with them. I’ll deal with it.

There was a long silence, then some ellipses as he typed, then another long silence. I got antsy and sent a follow-up.

Stanley, I mean it. I do not want you here if I have to call the cops to get them to leave. Stay home. If you show up here with them, I’m cutting off the money I give you.

I wasn’t the type to play fast and loose with threats about money, so that probably surprised him. There was the briefest of pauses.

Geez, no need to be a bitch about it. Fine. I’ll stay here. Good luck dealing with those assholes without me.

That was indeed exactly what I wanted, and he must have known that. Hell, I had pepper spray and a taser, so it’s not like I couldn’t keep them out if I really wanted to. But when it came down to it, I figured, what were they going to do? I wasn’t going to open the door or the front gate. The fence was ten feet high, the kind with spaced bars that had decorative spikes at the top, and it was brand new. It wasn’t as if they were going to take bolt-cutters to a barbed wire fence like in a movie.
In the end, I sat back in my chair and just fell back on my regular routine. I wonder now, if I’d called Andrew and told him, maybe asked him to come hang out for a while, whether things would’ve turned out different. But I wasn’t very well going to wake him up for something that essentially sounded like a minor irritation.
At 10:41 p.m., a beep, beep, beep, alert sounded, and I know the exact time because I picked my phone up off the desk out of habit, assuming it was what was making the noise. But it wasn’t. Looking up to the screen of cameras, one was outlined in red, pulling my focus to it. It was an exterior camera with a wide view that panned back and forth, but was now stopped on movement that it had detected and had deemed sufficient to audibly alert me. I later learned that it was in conjunction with a motion detector on the fence. On the screen, I saw two boys, one on the outside of the fence to the left of the entrance gate and one on the inside.
“What the fuck?” I breathed, standing up and putting my book aside. My fingers went to the mouse and keyboard, and I expanded the view from the camera and zoomed in. It seemed I’d underestimated the boredom and curiosity of two small-town teenage boys.
I saw how the first boy had gotten in when the second boy used the same technique, which was to climb a rope that had knots tied in it about a foot apart, a rope that had been hooked onto one of the spikes at the top, presumably with a loop that had been lassoed and tightened. He made it to the top, shifted and dropped to hang from the top by his hands, then let himself fall to the ground, his knees bending and absorbing the shock of the impact before falling on his butt.
One of the boys had hit a growth spurt, topping out at 5’11” now, all gangly limbs. He had short brown hair and I could see him wearing a sweatshirt with the logo of his school on it. That’s the best outfit to wear when breaking in, apparently: something that shows what high school you go to. The other one was a little more built and half a foot shorter, with long blonde hair that he probably thought made him look like Chris Hemsworth. It didn’t.
“I cannot believe this,” I growled, my anger flaring. Heading quickly out of the office, slamming the door behind me, I was out the door and walking toward the entrance, driven by my anger.
Already walking into the park at a speed driven by their interest in the forbidden areas, they started on the path that went toward enclosure one and rounded the zoo. “Hey!” I barked.
“Ripley!” Gary exclaimed. “Your brother said you wouldn’t open the gate, so we let ourselves in.”
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” I asked, keeping pace beside them, rage bubbling up inside me. They slowed but didn’t stop. “Do you think this is a joke? There’s a reason I told my brother not to come with you. That alarm you set off goes to the owner of the park, and they’ll definitely be pressing charges. You really want ‘breaking and entering’ on your rap sheet?”
They gave me long-suffering looks, the kind only someone under twenty is capable of. The kind that imply you’re neurotic, or pushy, or self-centered. The kind that say you don’t know what you’re talking about, that they know so much more than you, and that all you are is an annoyance.
“Come on. What is with this place? It sounds awesome, some private zoo, but Stanley didn’t know anything about it,” Shaun told me. Glancing at my belt, where my pepper spray and taser were, he asked, “Is it that top secret? Everything here could sell on the black market for a million bucks or something?”
“They’re expensive animals if poachers get their hands on them, yes,” I said tightly.
“Why would they hire someone fresh out of college for that?” Gary asked, his eyes continuing to take in his surroundings, the path and everything in sight bathed in their standard eerie red glow. “And what’s with the lights?”
“It’s for night vision,” I told him, skipping over the part implying I wasn’t qualified for this job. “Hey, stop.” Moving in front of them, I forced the issue, moving to stand in front of them and forcing them to either stumble to a stop or run into me. “If you climb back over the fence and leave now, before anyone gets here, I’ll lie and say I didn’t know your faces.”
“Jesus Christ, you’re uptight,” Shaun chuckled. “What’s the big deal? I mean, we might not even see anything, since it’s nighttime and the animals are sleeping. It’s not like we’re stealing a tour.”
Honestly, I have no idea how our species has survived this long when our formative years make us so confidently stupid. “So, why are you even here then?” I asked, folding my arms.
“Why not?” Gary asked.
With that, they were quickly walking around me, toward enclosure one. I hadn’t yet seen the animal in enclosure one, but what I did know was I didn’t want to see it for the first time tonight. Roger’s short and snappy description described it as Bear - Steve. According to procedure in the small manual Andrew had given me, I was supposed to deter any intruders with fact that they were on camera and threaten to call the police. It didn’t say what to do if that didn’t work, but I assume I was supposed to…call the police. And also call Andrew, of course. That didn’t solve my urgent problem though, which was two teenagers who wanted to see something cool.
“That’s it,” I growled, taking my taser in one hand and my pepper spray in the other, hoping the sight of me being armed would deter them. Heading after them, I snapped, “If you guys do not leave, I will make you leave.”
Shaun turned and walked backwards so he could speak to me. “Just because you’ve got a complex since they hired you to look after a place like this, doesn’t mean you have any real authority,” he told me. “Look, call the cops if you want. Tell them some teenagers broke in. Response time around here is probably fifteen minutes, so we’ve got ten minutes, minimum. We just want to see something cool, and then we’ll leave.”
I hate that he called my bluff on the weapons, especially in hindsight. I’m not a confrontational person, and my instincts are always to avoid a fight if possible. So, in this case, my instincts were telling me to call in someone else to help get these clowns out of the zoo, not to use the weapons I had for just such a purpose. It makes me feel helpless and angry knowing that I back down from fights, but I balked at the idea of getting physical with them. Only the fact that that wasn’t supposed to be part of my job kept me from feeling like a complete failure as security.
“The animals here are not puppies,” I finally exclaimed. “Some of them are territorial. They could seriously hurt you.”
They finally slowed their pace as they closed in on the gate to the wooden fence. “What are you talking about, territorial? They’re zoo animals,” Gary said.
“This is a huge zoo, and it’s more like a preserve,” I sighed. “It backs up into the forest. These animals build their homes here, scent mark the boundaries, and regularly eat small animals that come in through the bars of the fence to explore. So, like I said. These. Are not. Puppies.”
The two of them finally came to a stop at the gate, looking at me warily. “With this fence, how dangerous could they be?” Gary asked. I didn’t answer. Shaun scanned the expanse behind the gate and Gary looked around, making it clear what he was looking for when he said, “Where are all the signs and shit?”
“There’s a tour guide,” I said. “They don’t need signs.”
“Okay, so, what’s in here?”
Shaking my head, I let out a sigh. “It’s time to leave. I’m serious.”
Gary glared at me for a beat and then said the worst word possible. “Whatever.” Then he turned and unlatched the gate, walking through.
“Gary!” I shouted, stopping short at the threshold. Shaun walked past me, and I made a grab for him, but was too slow. I’ll regret that until the day I die.
Halted at the gate like there was an invisible force field keeping me out in just as it kept the animals in, I officially started panicking. I’d messed up, and now I couldn’t even hit them with either the pepper spray or the taser unless I wanted them to be easy prey.
My eyes scanned the smaller plants along the fence, which slowly grew in average height the closer you got to the tree line. The trees were surprisingly close to the fence, only a few yards in. Also, there were no footprints, no path that only grew small weeds from an animal that often paced back and forth, so I wasn’t sure how often it came out of the trees. Maybe it didn’t.
I wondered if there was another lake, maybe a small pond, that I didn’t know about further in, if the animal lived there. Or maybe this one was relatively reclusive, so I might have time to get the boys out. It could be that it had heard the ruckus of voices and decided to investigate, as it did during tours, but it would take a while to get here. Or I could get lucky and whatever it was could have just had a great meal, deciding to pass up the humans within its grasp.
But I was not lucky.
Putting my pepper spray and taser back in their holsters, I took a couple steps back as I pulled out my cell phone and called 911.
There was a brief pause before I heard someone pick up, and a calm female voice spoke, “911, what is your emergency?”
“Yes, I work at a private zoo, address 11842 Lincoln Road,” I spoke, drawing the shocked gazes of both boys. “Two teenage boys broke in, and they’re refusing to leave the property.”
“For real, Ripley?” Gary exclaimed, as if genuinely offended at my actions.
That’s when all hell broke loose.
Gary was standing near enough to the tall trees that he was under the branches, and something dropped on him, its weight crushing him to the ground. He didn’t even have time to scream. Shaun did, though, crying, “What the fuck?” as he stumbled backwards.
“Get out of there!” I screamed, grabbing my taser from its holster and pointing it at the animal.
On top of Gary’s body was something that looked like a koala. The only thing was, it must have been almost twice as big and had an orange, spotted pattern on its fur. The kicker was the teeth. Koalas eat eucalyptus leaves, most people know, so they don’t have much use for many teeth or even sharp teeth. They’re equipped with a pretty pathetic set of chompers.
Whatever this was, I knew it had a full set of teeth made for a meat-eater, because it had bitten down on Gary’s neck and ripped out a chunk of flesh, arterial blood spraying from the wound.
Shaun, unfortunately, did not take the opportunity to run. He stared at his downed friend, just as I did, in horrified fear. And then ran to him. “Gary!” he screamed. “Hey, get the fuck off him!”
“Shaun, don’t!” I shouted.
Whatever Shaun was thinking, it was less about the potential of him being attacked versus the fact of his friend being attacked right at that moment. I’ll say that about him at least: he didn’t just leave his friend to die. Unfortunately, if he had, it might’ve saved him. Throwing himself at the animal, Shaun shoved it off, an impressive show of strength, before grabbing Gary by the arm and trying to pull him to his feet. “Come on!”
I could see that Gary was barely conscious, though. A gash in an artery that was profusely bleeding will do that to a person. I attempted to aim my taser at the animal, but only a split-second passed before it turned and leapt once more, slamming into Shaun and biting his neck. I stumbled back in fear, adrenaline now pumping through me in earnest, as Shaun cried out in terror and fell to the ground before the animal ripped out his throat.
My vision swam at the sight of a copious amount of blood and the sound of Shaun choking on it. Thick chewing sounds came from the animal before it swallowed and then turned to me.
I only realized I’d dropped my cell phone when I heard a faint, panicked voice ask, “Ma’am? Ma’am, are you there?”
Lowering the taser, I slowly took a couple steps forward, picked up the phone, and I quietly said, “Yeah. I’m here.”
It felt like she was speaking from the other end of a long tunnel when I heard, “I’m sending police and EMT right now. What happened? Was someone injured?”
Swallowing hard, I grimaced as tears came to my eyes. Staring at the animal, which was still meeting my gaze unwaveringly, I simply answered, “Yeah. They’re dead.” At that point, the animal grabbed one of the boys by the throat, then the other, and started dragging them into the trees.
She hesitated before asking some more questions, and I replied to them all absently. Eventually, the animal was gone from my sight, but I still walked backwards as I retraced my steps to the security office, exactly like the first time I’d seen Yui. Eventually I arrived at the security room, and my shaky hand swiped the key card to get in. Shutting the door, I told the 911 operator, “I’m safe.”
“Good. The police should be there in ten minutes.”
My brain thought it was funny that it turned out the boys had been right about the timing, but filed it under ‘things to think about later’. “Okay. I have to call my boss.”
“Just stay on the line with me until the police arrive, okay?”
“It’s okay. I’m fine,” I said quietly. “I just really need to call my boss.”
In spite of her protests, I hung up. The silence of the room rang in my ears and I slowly sat down in my chair, pulling up Andrew’s number.
After four rings, he picked up, his voice drowsy but tense, knowing I’d only call if something had happened. “Ripley? What’s wrong?”
It took me a moment to find my voice. “Two teenagers broke in. They’re dead. Steve killed them.”
“Oh, fuck,” he breathed. After a few beats, he said, “Okay, all right, I’ll, ah, I’ll be there as soon as I can. Did you call the police already?”
“I was on the phone before it even happened, saying they broke in.” I grimaced at that. I was supposed to call my boss first, not the police. That let him determine what actions to take.
Andrew let out a breath. “Okay. I’m assuming Steve took the bodies?”
“Yeah.”
“All right, I’ll call Suzanne and have her put Steve down for a nap, and then get the bodies back to where the EMTs can get them.”
That confused me, and I didn’t really know what to say, so I went with, “I’m sorry, Andrew. I should’ve tried harder to get them to leave. Even tasing and pepper spraying them would’ve-”
“Ripley, this is not your fault,” he said firmly. “I’ll be there soon as I can, all right?”
We ended the conversation and I glanced at the screen of cameras, which was how I’d left it, focused on that section of the fence where the boys had climbed in, with the view enlarged to take up most of the screen. I stared at it until the police arrived.
When the motorcade of flashing lights were visible at the end of the road through one of the cameras, I pressed the button to open the front gate. Fielding the police officers and the EMTs and their questions, I brought them to the enclosure, and right at the edge of the tree line were the two bodies, looking exactly as I’d last seen them. So, I guess Suzanne knows how to run her zoo and handle things when the worst happens.
Both boys were put into body bags and lifted onto gurneys, and then each one was put into one of the two waiting ambulances. Andrew arrived before too long and answered all the questions the police had for him, the ones I didn’t know how to answer. Also the questions that I didn’t really feel comfortable answering, like, “What species of bear is it exactly? And why is there just this flimsy fence here?” I watched from a distance as they took his statement and, I determined by watching their facial expressions, Andrew seemed to answer their questions to their satisfaction.
The long, exhausting experience ended when the last of them left, and Andrew and I went back to the main building, going to his office. Instead of sitting in his desk chair, my boss vied for the couch that sat against one wall, used occasionally by visitors. I sat at the other end, leaning back heavily into the cushions.
Andrew spoke first, echoing his earlier sentiments and immediately making it clear that what occurred wasn’t my fault. I felt some anger at myself, mostly because I knew that if I’d used one of my weapons on one of them, they’d still be alive. But I hadn’t wanted to go to such extremes just because they’d climbed over a fence. They were dumb teenagers, right? I’ve never been tased or pepper sprayed, but I’d seen videos on YouTube and it didn’t look like a fun time.
“Look, you said it that first day in your interview, that people are stupid,” he told me. “Teenagers especially. You know that’s a fact. You did the best you could in that moment, so don’t look back and think of what you could’ve done to fix things, because solutions always seem obvious in hindsight. All right?”
“Yeah,” I muttered.
Andrew sent me home at that point, saying he’d take the rest of the shift. I was too weary to object, so I left.
Stanley was still sleeping safely in his bed, and that’s one thing I’m so grateful for. If this job took my brother from me, I’d be done with it. Still, I don’t relish waking up tomorrow and having to face him. I don’t know exactly how he’s going to react to the news, but it’s going to be the worst thing in the world that’s happened to him, mostly because of the guilt of not being able to talk them out of going. The same way I couldn’t talk them out of staying out of an enclosure.
My schedule is still nocturnal, so I’m not tired enough to sleep right now. Hopefully I’ll get sleepy soon. For now, I’ll play one of Stanley’s mindless old school video games with the sound muted. My main goal is to get the image of all that blood out of my head.

Trump told the captains of the fossil fuel industry the whole thing would be a “deal” for them considering how much money they’d make in a second Trump administration. It’s hard to imagine a more mustache-twisting example of naked corruption and disregard for the lives of untold millions of people at the mercy of climate change. Many, many fair-minded voters would find the contrast between Biden and Trump just as stark. Except, according to polls, many have little idea it exists.
  
• New polling shows that most voters aren’t that well aware of Biden’s four biggest domestic achievements, including the Inflation Reduction Act, which included record climate investments and green incentives for businesses and individuals. Voters know even less about Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan. Even worse: Many voters actually think Trump — who famously flubbed Infrastructure Week for months on end — did as much on this issue as Biden. (He did not.) The upshot is that Biden’s campaign has A LOT of work to do to inform voters about how his policies benefit their communities, while Donald Trump is openly promising to literally sell them out to oil companies for his personal benefit.
  

Partisanship is partly to blame for making voters tune out Biden's achievements in this area. But millions of GOP moderates and independents are also waiting for a reason to abandon Trump. Maybe they’d like to know that Trump is promising to kill electric cars in exchange for cold, hard cash.

TikTok announced today it will start automatically labeling AI-generated content, including artificial images made with TikTok’s AI effects and shared elsewhere. That’s a bit of good news as the U.S. heads into its first presidential election in the age of AI. At the same time, it points to a much bigger problem: the dangerous collision between AI and politics. And we’re not just talking about the “Drunk Nancy Pelosi” deepfake.
It has become shockingly easy to generate deepfake content of politicians, newsmakers, or anyone else. Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes proved exactly that point to unnerved election officials at an election safety seminar this week. TikTok’s new policy makes it slightly trickier to blast totally artificial content into global public view, but hardly impossible, especially for determined bad actors.
Of course, this change does nothing to counter another very real danger: how authentic content is selectively delivered to inflame specific audiences. After all, this will be an election in which one of the two main candidacies is based on false information about the 2020 election and orbited by a constellation of other lies. TikTok, of course, is clearly looking for “responsible actor” press while facing a potential forced sale or ban in the U.S. But, still, hooray for TikTok, thanks for reminding us how full of artificially-enhanced videos of dancing cats you truly are.

The Biden Administration is expected to soon release a new rule designed to speed up the processing of asylum claims for many migrants crossing the southern border, NBC News reported, citing unnamed sources. The move is designed to make it faster and easier to deny entry to migrants with criminal records or who are deemed a national security risk.
Medical school graduates are starting to avoid states with abortion bans or new post-Dobbs restrictions when choosing their residencies, according to data from the Association of American Medical Colleges. If you knew you weren't going to "expose" the daughter, why involve the daughter in the first place knowing that there would be mass interest in the identity of the daughter.
I mean the last diss with Drake, a huge deal was made over Adonis' identity. Even a 4th grader can easily tell that mentioning Drake's "hidden daughter" in a beef which is much larger(literally has the world watching) than the Pusha T diss would cause people to start getting nosy. THE 17 YEAR OLD AT A SHOW
Drake is performing at a show in Ogden, Denver where he calls a girl up on stage. I really encourage you to watch this yourself, but since I know the majority of you won't watch it, I've described it for you below.
Video starts with her on stage, he asks her name, where she is from, asks the crowd to welcome her to the stage and tells her she looks great. He then asks her to give him two seconds because "I gotta be ready for you".
He wipes off his sweat with a towel and proceeds to take her hand, put it on his shoulder, his hand on her hip/back and they slow dance for a few seconds. He spins her around and stop her with her back facing him. This is when it starts to get.. really weird.
Drake says "I told you I like your hair, right, what is it, like herbal essence or something?" while he's caressing her shoulder and smelling her hair. He says something I can't hear properly, puts the mic down and exposes her upper back and neck by pulling her shirt collar down. The crowd goes wild. He then starts kissing her shoulder and neck, putting her arms around her and fondle her breast.
A few seconds later he picks up the mic again and says "you can't have me carried away again before I get in trouble - how old are you?" She responds "17". The crowd has a mixed reaction - Drake says something that is hard to make out, because of the crowd but when it's clear he says "I can't go to jail yet, man - 17? Why do you look like that? You thick - look at all this!"
It's hard to make out exactly what he says afterwards because of the poor quality (2011 zoomed video at a concert, it's bad..), but he says something about it bringing them (the 17 year old and Drake) to a close and follows it up with "I got one question for you (...) I just want to know if (something about women in Colorado), I should just take one opportunity to take one home?"
The girl nods "As a Colorado woman you'd enjoy that?" "Well, listen 17, I had fun - I don't know if I should feel guilty or not, but I had fun. I liked the way your breasts felt against my chest. I just want to thank you." He then puts the mic down again, grabs her hand and kisses it. You might think that was a little over the top, but he then immediately follows it up by putting his hand on her chin and kissing both of her cheeks, her forehead and then on her fucking lips.
I think he asks her to walk off stage, it's hard to make out, but then he says "It's okay. I'm only 23, I can do shit like that. It's all good, you know what I'm saying" and the video ends.
Addition: I know this girl has said she was not offended, violated, whatever you want to call it, but that's not the point. And I do not mean to sound like a complete dick, but it's not about her - it's about Drake and proving his pattern of behavior over many instances. If you stopped here because she denied it, you completely missed the point.

MILLIE BOBBY BROWN
Now this video was what really made me do a double take on Drake. Now, there's one very important fact to establish here and that is that Millie Bobby Brown at the time of this interview (18. September 2018) is 14 (Born 19. February 2004). I'll quickly transcribe the interview here:

What about your relationship with Drake, tell me about your friendship, how did this all come about?

Millie Bobby Brown:

I love him. I met him in Australia and he's honestly so fantastic and a great friend and a great role model. You know we text - we just texted each other the other day and he was like "I miss you so much" and I was like "I miss you more". He's coming to Atlanta, so I'm definitely gonna go and see him and I'm so excited.

Interviewer 2:

You and Drake? That's awesome. That's awesome..

Interviewer:

What advice does he give you? What does he say?

MMB:

About boys he helps me, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah he's great. He's wonderful, I love him.

Interviewer:

What's his advice with boys?

MMB:

Ehm, you know.. That stays in the text messages.

I'm sure it's obvious what is wrong here and I don't need to spell it out for any of you, but I do have one thing to add. If Drake is giving advice about boys and telling her "I miss you so much" they must have talked for a while. It's not something you say after knowing a person for a week. We are talking months at least. There's 7 months between her birthday and the interview - did Drake already start talking to her when she was 13? It would make sense that Drake was in Australia during their summer (Dec-Feb) for festivals/concerts/vacation.
Millie has only commented on this once which was a few days later in a story on Instagram
I don't want or mean to infantilize her, but she was 14. She would have no chance of knowing if Drake actually was grooming her. There's not a chance that she could understand the dynamic at play and why it's wrong at that age.
Drake also defended their friendship on the song Another Late Night when he raps:

She does a yearly interview with Vanity Fair, and in the 2019 version she's asked who's her most famous contact in her phone. That's when she reveals she's been texting with Drake and that he's so very nice to her. Billie is at the time of the interview (released 25. November 2019) 17 (born 18. December 2001).
Billie did defend Drake and their texting in an interview with Vogue ~3 months later:

Now - I know this is not Drake, I just thought it was a 'funny' coincidence that these two women are connected through their shared experiences with Drake and this song. On another note some might say that Drake should have asked Yachty to omit this line if he really was a friend of Billie Eilish since she has been quite vocal about sexualization of herself and women in general.

This one is pretty fucking bad in my opinion. Bella Harris is the daughter of Jimmy Jam who's a record producer, songwriter etc. and has been very successful. Through him she's been in and around the entertainment/music business her whole life and met Drake that way.
There's an archive of photos posted here that contains the old IG posts she had with Drake. The first one was on May 5th, 2016 - Bella Harris is born 20. April, 2000. She had just turned 16 at the time.
Objectively I think they are defendable since they are all music related - Rihanna concert, Summer Sixteen Tour (ironic name..) and the American Music Awards, but then two years later they reportedly start dating and that makes it really difficult to believe, especially with the last archived photo of them in 2018. Also the same photo that is referenced in this article talking about Drake renting an entire restaurant for an intimate dinner between them.
Note that E! have confirmed it and are not backing down on their claim despite Harris denying it on Instagram.
Her father liked this post on Instagram about the whole situation. It's not particular to the restaurant or previous potential dating it's more so a general declaration of support for Drake, but that includes the PDF-file allegations.
Him supporting Drake made me search for more information, because I wanted to find whether or not he had spoken about it at the time. That led me to this article where her mother, Lisa, is being asked a few questions regarding Bella.

That's not out of the ordinary and would be 'normal', if it wasn't for the clear pattern that is going on here, because guess what - 6 years later Drake and Kylie reportedly start dating, well.. dating/fucking/whatever you wanna call it. Admittedly this article is easily dismissed as paparazzi journalism and clickbait, but what if I told you that Drake has rapped this:

Now again - there's nothing illegal in a 11 year age difference and dating a 19-year old as 30. It's weird, yes. But again we come back to the pattern. Why do Drake know Hailey? Through their similar friends and friend group (Kardashians/Jenners). How long has Drake known Hailey? Well, when Hailey was 19, she said they had known each other for a long time.
We can actually get even closer with certainty since we know that Hailey attended Kylie's Sweet 16 in August, 2013. Hailey is born 22. November 1996, so she was also 16 at the time. So it's another girl that Drake has known since she was a minor and started dating when he got the opportunity. This is not normal.
Another pattern that Drake also seem to follow is that likes to hook up with his friends girl. We know for a fact that he hooked up with Lil Wayne's girlfriend while he was in prison. He not only rap about it, but also admit it in an interview. It's not really hard to believe that he did the same with Bieber.

This interview was uploaded 17. December 2019, Cydney Christine's is born 21. July, 1997, meaning she was 22 at the time of the interview and 15-16 when Drake started following her. This is somewhat innocent but strange since Drake is 27 at the time. That's not what is really weird though.

(DIS)HONORABLE MENTION
I know people say Jorja Smith, and I do agree that dating a 19-year old as a 30-year old man is weird and rather pathetic, but every other girl mentioned is related to minors. Their relationship if you can call it that was for sure toxic, and it seems like Drake was a piece of shit abusing the power dynamic between them. This is taken from the Drizzy subreddit, but I can't provide the source since that gets the post blacklisted as it's temporarily banned because of brigading.

In “Summer Games” Drake also says ”I kept it decent, even the secrets, kept it between you and I”. What secrets exactly? Well in Jaded, Drake says this woman “told him all her insecurities”.
It’s also interesting that the song “Summer Games” is about a woman who broke up with Drake right at the beginning of the summer. Drake and Jorja were dating in April of 2017 which is right before the summer starts and only lasted a couple weeks.

But that's all there is to it. I can't dig up anything else, so unless someone have something credible with sources, I don't think there's good enough reason to add her to the list further up.
FINAL NOTE
I know there's very real questions about the reliability of CDAN and that he was exposed, but in the very same article The Daily Beast refers back to one of their old articles on the subject which definitely confirms that he had/have industry ties and do know a lot. Another reddit user dove further in and made some compelling arguments, but remember to take it with a (big) grain of salt.

I’ve been “dating” or seeing this older woman for going on 9 months. We met at a function with mutual “friends” (her daughter was a bottle girl at a spot and my homeboy was there to see her, he then invited me). We kept in touch slightly through Instagram by replying to one another’s story here and there. We happened to both be at the same rap concert a couple days later (she was with a girlfriend, I was with another chick lol) so I made my way to where she sat to see her and enjoy some of the concert with her. I ended up staying with her until the show ended and we even had someone take pictures for us. I met back up with who I came with and left. The next day she called and asked if wanted to go to Atlanta for the weekend and I said sure. We went and it was a good time, she gave it up the first night. A lot has happened in between then that very well may be important to the story but in conclusion I’ve found myself not interested or attracted to her any more. Sometimes I even get annoyed with her and I’m not one to hide my feelings. She’s stuck around even through me being stand-off ish and literally telling her I want to explore other options (which is opposite of what she wanted). But my birthday is coming up I’ll be 24 (she turned 41 in January) and I just feel like I need an out- to call it quits because at this point I’m barely connected to the situation at all.

► FORMING There are degrees that make everything easier. Physical or Integral education teacher. Bachelor's degree in Media and Entertainment Management, etc.

Listen to the old school, they never get tired of repeating it because they never get tired of seeing the same mistakes they made. Go to School.

► FLEXING There is the archetype of the Dancer who arrives at the hotel, goes down to the JAM, makes his rounds and comes back to take the early flight. It's easy to criticize them, but it's better to decide to be better than that, period. Go into every baclub you can find before the event and make friends. Maybe it's just a poor soul's birthday and you are the gift to enliven the funeral atmosphere a bit. We all have our limits, but you can't marry with some crew and not share when people usually dance for 5 years and call it quits. You have to have a conviction that this is going somewhere, I can't figure it out for you. People notice that and with everything I'm going to describe below it only empowers them more.

If there is one thing that is not missing, it is quality marketing courses, either in English or in your native language. Blame it on globalization, but if you don't sell even when you're sick or out of town, you can't have longevity in this. This is where the rift is generated, between those who choose to dedicate themselves to being behind the desk and those who don't mind doing some windmills to fill a spot in a presentation. I can't get into that, everyone is free to live this as they want, but you have to find a way to turn it back and promoting your brand.

► COMPETING Dancing is hard, but add to that the fact that you have to do 50 shows a week, or get away for 3 months to compete in different countries, plus maintaining your health, fitness, status and other normal human being things? Shame on you. Jk

You need to have traveled to have “guild” representation. It is not to be the best pro breaker, but to have a palpable regional representation so that you can ask for a budget, for example, and be able to pay for you or your students to travel, rent the space or infrastructure necessary for it to have continuity. Sometimes you can have everything and simply not be aware that your community has already won nationally in skating, calisthenics or rapping. So the transition to your discipline is easier.

► FEDERATION Enter the bureaucratic part of Sport, since, like culture, it is political. Awesome... Bullshit! Lots of acronyms, cycle closures or changes of government, different sports regs, non-existent connections between institutions, distrust of other entities etc.

Whether you are TOP 1 or TOP 33, here we are right now, not all countries reach the quota of representation, so its common to see benches with barely place as South America, and countries like Australia, Ukraine or China with entire teams. Is normal since there was literally no time, as many jobs were not even posted less than 100 days before the event in Paris and they already had to promote the 2026 olympic games. It could be said that the pandemic adversely affected the normal development of the competition.

► INDUSTRY Now it is a discipline as such. With its competitions in an annual calendar, projects above the government agenda, events with punctual schedules, paid dancers, unicorns...

It sounds ideal, but many disciplines such as 3x3 Basketball or jump rope are in the same or worse position than us, so it is good to go on a project on par with other federations, and evolve to take this seriously like an entire "URBAN SPORT CONFEDERATION". You need a specific environment. An interdisciplinary work team, a good work environment, loyalty and a good message to give to the people and the sponsors.

This is where it gets to what was the model that made K-pop/MMA what i'ts today. Having contact from the best filmmakers, the best copywriters, the best hosts and strategic points to showcase Breaking to the masses. From the outside it looks all bright and rosy, but many people get caught up in this desire, have a hard time and live it with suffering, as it is something they can't give up, so it becomes a contradiction to the values of the lifestyle. Thus we see people so hated but still invited to events. This is not something for everyone, and it is okay that it is so.
