I have a 2002 Silverado 1500 and I am just wondering has anyone been able to completely fix/upgrade this A/C system to where it completely works consistently?
I and many others have replaced nearly the entire A/C system from pressure switches, evaporators, compressors, blower motor modules, the burnt blower motor connector, etc. And it still will give out.
Does anyone have any advice to fix it where it doesn't have issues any more? I heard the reason the blower motor connector burns out is cause chevy cheaped out and used plastic or something. Can I upgrade the wire to where it doesn't get as hot since the blower motor pulls so much.
The current problems I am having is my blower motor only works sometimes and if it does It works on setting 3-5 only but most of the time only on setting 3. I have replaced the blower motor connector, blower motor resistor (3 times lol), and the blower motor itself

Luckily Autozone gives lifetime warranty on some of their stuff but still. Is there parts that I can use that are more reliable that aren't also so expensive? A nice backwind for this stock is that the Cannabis sector seems to have made a bottom and is starting a new uptrend. I am a 21F who just finished up my second year of college, and I’m already distraught about how my life is going to go after I graduate. I have incredibly severe anxiety, ADHD (of which medication does nothing for) and possibly autism, and I know having a “real job” is going to absolutely eat me alive, if I can even keep it for more than 6 months. College is the absolute ideal environment for me, because it gives me the structure I need, while also giving me the freedom to stay home and take breaks when I need to (and I need a lot). I also have the student disability center which helps me as well.
However, I am now halfway through my degree and I know once I graduate all of that will be ripped out from under me, and I’m never going to have the support systems and safety net of college life ever again. People in my life who do not have mental health problems to the extent that I do tell me everything will be ok, but I know it won’t. I am terrified for the day I’m on my own advocating for myself with disabilities most people would just rather fire me over.
I’m just going to spend these next two years terrified for when I have to choose my job over my health and well being everyday for the rest of my life, when I absolutely love my life now. I have a great, supportive family, a loving girlfriend and I’m at a college I love, with two majors I love studying. I’m not ready to give up my life right now, and I don’t think I ever will be. It’s so agonizing to live under capitalism when everything about me and how I work runs completely opposite to it. I don’t like or want to believe the rest of life will be miserable, but I also have to get realistic with myself. Does anyone have any advice? I've been grappling with a persistent issue for the past six days, spending many hours each day trying to resolve it, but to no avail. The problem involves the Logitech Gaming Software (LGS) settings getting disabled in response to various system events. I have G602 and G13.
I plan to install an older Windows version (1909) suspecting that this could be related to some lock-out features introduced by Microsoft, although I am not certain which version introduced these features.
Has anyone experienced something similar, or do you have insights into how display rendering and communication between drivers and services in Windows operate?

Here's a detailed breakdown of the issue:
Before installing an nvidia 2070, I was using an AMD APU where the problem rarely occurred, Triger - mostly just causing issues with the OCR integrated into PowerToys. Symptoms - included severe mouse lag, cursor stuttering, and sometimes a complete cursor freeze or a black screen. Fix- Restarting the graphic drivers using keyboard shortcuts would fix. Additionally, another issue with PotPlayer during fullscreen video playback; videos stuttered, but exiting fullscreen resolved the problem. Videos streamed from HBO/Netflix or YT did not encounter this issue.
After installing the 2070, the problem worsened and now additional triggers cause the bug.
Triger: - taking a screenshot causes a system hiccup after about 5 seconds; - launching Discord results in a bug about 10 seconds after the app runs smoothly.
Symptoms: If I move the cursor during this time, it temporarily freezes and makes several jumps before returning to normal function but now without LGS settings, appearing as if LGS is deactivated and the mouse reverts to the 'on-board memory' profile settings. LGS stops working altogether, including my G13 keyboard, which becomes inactive.
Fix To restore proper function, I no longer need to reset the graphic drivers. Now, in most cases, simply giving focus to LGS, like switching to it using Alt+Tab to the 'customize pointer settings' tab where you adjust the mouse speed and DPI, reactivates the correct profile. However, LGS must be open on this specific tab.

(I understand this is a bit of a read so I included a tl:dr at the bottom)
This may end up becoming a wall of text so I apologize in advance. I'm not sure how to properly start this so I'll just jump into it. I've been living with my best friends for the past 8 years. The 4 of us moved in together in early 2016 after deciding it would be beneficial financially and because we all get along so damn well that we knew there wouldn't be any issues living under the same roof. Fast forward to today and although 2 them have moved out, I'm still living here with my one buddy and his girlfriend. Things are still great there, no signs of friendship deterioration, tolerance or anything that might cause friction between us. However, I've been witness to a few things as well as started experiencing health issues that have completely changed the outlook I had on life back when we moved in together nearly a decade ago.
A little over 3 years ago I began dealing with awful IBS issues that to this day are still not properly being treated as doctors can't figure out what's wrong with my gut. Over the past 4 months I have begun dealing with nearly debilitating anxiety that has left me pretty much unable to leave the house except for doctor's appointments or the extremely occasional outing to a family or friend's house where I'm only able to stay for about an hour before having to leave. I do see a psychologist as well as a psychiatrist and I am on medication for both the IBS and anxiety, which helps but is in no way a cure. My buddy that I still live with has been through absolute hell the past few years but luckily he's the kind of person who can just raw dog life (as in, he doesn't deal with any physical or mental issues, rarely gets sick and has no trouble going anywhere, doing anything, can eat whatever he wants without issues, etc.). He lost his mom to cancer last year. She passed exactly one week after Mother's Day. She lived here with us for about the final year of her life. Me and him have been friends for a good 20+ years at this point so his mom was like a mother to me as well, especially being as I don't have a proper relationship with my own mother. Watching her suffer through years of cancer only to pass away at 54 years old was heartbreaking. At least she's finally at peace now, of course. Now, his dad is also going through cancer treatment which is a recurrence of cancer that was found years ago, which automatically makes it stage 4. His prognosis is not grim but to many of us, his dad just seems done with it all. He stays here with us on weekends and with his sister during the week. We can see how much of a toll it's all taking on him. He won't admit it but we know that he doesn't want to put his son through all of this again after losing his mom just last year. If he was given a choice to "go" right now, he would take it, 100% to alleviate any more potential suffering at his or anyone else's behalf. His (my friend's) girlfriend also deals with chronic health issues both physical and mental which has helped open his eyes to the things that other people (who can't just raw dog life) go through on a daily basis. She lost her father when she was in her early 20s so it's helpful to him that she understands what losing a parent feels like.
Watching all of this happen just makes me realize how little our health care industry and government actually seem to care about our true wishes regarding life and death. Why did his mom have to suffer all those years with a terminal diagnosis? Why does his dad have to suffer now? Just because they're both in their 50s and not elderly it seems like care is always about treatment and not giving them the option to leave this life with their dignity intact. I myself would choose to leave this world if the door was opened for me. That does not mean that I am currently having thoughts of killing myself. It means that if the option was presented to me, to go out on my own terms, I would take it. Suicide is still extremely taboo in our society for some reason. Religion and government would have you think it is a crime against humanity but what is more humane than letting someone decide on their own terms that they're ready to move on? We are given this broad illusion of choice as children that we will get to grow up to be who we want to be and if we just try hard enough, we can accomplish anything. But for the vast majority of us, that is just not true. It is an illusion. We work and work and work just to barely earn enough money to survive and many end up in unhappy marriages solely because that's what society made them think they had to do as an adult.
Watching someone you love like family suffer and die will change you. Developing health issues that flip you from being someone outgoing, spontaneous. hard working and passionate into the complete opposite of those things will change you. Discovering that our healthcare system and government will do everything it possibly can to keep you as a "functioning member of society" no matter whether you're going through cancer treatment or dealing with chronic health issues will change you.

People kill themselves in horrific fashion every single day, more than once every *minute* worldwide. They want a way to fix that and the solution is right there in front of them. Give people the option to leave on their own terms. I've had plenty of conversations about this with friends and family and almost every single one of us would choose to leave on our own terms, when we are ready if the option were available. Hell, even my psychologist agrees with me on this. There's always a big debate about the ethics of it all but until you witness firsthand someone suffering and dying or begin dealing with your own health issues there really isn't any way to understand it. The vast majority of people are out there just raw dogging life and thoughts like these never cross their mind even once. But once it's brought up to them, they understand and accept it, at least in my own personal experiences from talking with friends and family. Ethics, health, religion, government, society, all of these things play a role in determining our fate. I just hope that someday a program is put in place so that people no longer have to suffer.
Finishing up, I understand that my condition is nowhere near as bad as what many others may be dealing with. Some people will look at me with disdain for wanting to walk through the door at only 37 years old while others will understand exactly where I'm coming from and feel the same. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs. I am appreciative of the healthcare system while also criticizing its flaws. I'm glad that religion provides so many with the means to live a happy and healthy life while also believing that many views (and laws) put forth by religious folk are vile and extremely outdated. I am glad that there are systems in place to help people in their darkest hours while also understanding completely why so many choose to leave. At 37 I still have plenty of my life left ahead of me, even if I don't want to get old. I still have things to look forward to such as video game releases or a new series to watch that keep me going. But I also acknowledge that there is a part of me that is ready to go. I have seen what life has to offer. I have lived with my family, on my own, while in a relationship and with my best friends. I do not want to get married or have kids. I do not want to work until I'm 65 (retirement age is likely to rise during my lifetime anyway). I do not want to get old and become a burden on anyone, either family/friends, healthcare workers or the average citizens who would have to pay for my social security.
Lose the illusion of choice and give people the option to go when they are ready.
If you managed to read through all of that, I just want to say thanks! Life is a beautiful thing and I am incredibly thankful for all of the amazing people I've met over the years and for the things that I've been able to do and see. This is not a post about wanting to commit suicide, it's main focus should be that we are forced into this world against our will and given the illusion of choice but when it comes down to it, we really don't have that much choice in how we live our lives and especially not when it comes to wanting it to end. Life can be incredibly fragile and many of us took that for granted until health issues decided it was time to show their ugly faces. I truly do not believe that feeling like you are ready to go should be considered taboo in any way. It should be something that everyone is provided a safe and comfortable space to discuss, whether with loved ones or medical professionals. For all of you out there just raw dogging life, I see you and I hope that someday I can get back to that, I really do miss being able to do whatever I wanted without a second thought. And of course, for anyone who knows what it feels like to be ready to go, to feel confident and comfortable with that decision, I see you as well and hope that the rest of society someday sees that as normal.

This may end up becoming a wall of text so I apologize in advance. I'm not sure how to properly start this so I'll just jump into it. I've been living with my best friends for the past 8 years. The 4 of us moved in together in early 2016 after deciding it would be beneficial financially and because we all get along so damn well that we knew there wouldn't be any issues living under the same roof. Fast forward to today and although 2 them have moved out, I'm still living here with my one buddy and his girlfriend. Things are still great there, no signs of friendship deterioration, tolerance or anything that might cause friction between us. However, I've been witness to a few things as well as started experiencing health issues that have completely changed the outlook I had on life back when we moved in together nearly a decade ago.
A little over 3 years ago I began dealing with awful IBS issues that to this day are still not properly being treated as doctors can't figure out what's wrong with my gut. Over the past 4 months I have begun dealing with nearly debilitating anxiety that has left me pretty much unable to leave the house except for doctor's appointments or the extremely occasional outing to a family or friend's house where I'm only able to stay for about an hour before having to leave. I do see a psychologist as well as a psychiatrist and I am on medication for both the IBS and anxiety, which helps but is in no way a cure. Here is my situation and would like some second opinions before contacting the host.
I am about 10 days into a 40 day long stay in an upper floor apartment for school not travel. The listing said no AC, which I assumed would be no big deal because it’s May and the lows for the night where I am located would be 0-12 degrees C, with highs from 10-20C (maybe 25 near the end of the stay) during the day. Why would I need AC right??
First week or so I am here, it got below freezing at night, was very cloudy and rainy. I did not have any issue with the temperature, it stayed below 20 inside. However last few days I have woken up to it being sunny and my apartment being 25C and about 70% RH. Now here’s the kicker, it reached a low of 5C outside and at 8AM was 10C and I slept the entire night with the window open as much as it would open and a 6” fan (that I brought myself) blowing outside air into the room all night!! I have to close the window when I leave for school due to connected balconies and being in the hood, so when I get home at 430 is usually closer to 27C. I open the window trying to blow like 15C air into the room and it only is able to offset the heat generated by the shower, oven and fridge I am using. So the room temp doesn’t drop much until 8pm, then it is able to crawl down to about 22C by 1030 and does not go much lower. Only for it to start heating back up at 5am I am terrified this place will be actually hostile to my health if the temperatures get any hotter outside…. I theorize the reasons it can get so hot are a combination of:
-piss poor ventilation to my room through a central system (heat through is a manual radiant system fyi. It is most certainly off in my room and not playing a factor)
-being on the 6th floor to a poorly planned old building that probably used to be office space
-knee to ceiling windows across the whole apartment that face east with blinds that are very bad at stopping convection air flow at the tops and bottom
-very old inefficient fridge and stove that put out a lot of heat with no room dividing walls in the suite.
As for how the humidity gets so high, I have absolutely no idea. I think the tiny ventilation duct (there is only 1) is bringing hot humid air from the rest of the apartment building. I am on floor 6 out of 7. I am somewhat conflicted because I am aware the room said no AC when I booked. But I also believe it’s reasonable expectation that no AC means your apartment will be at most 1 maybe 2C hotter than the outside ambient air temp. And differences of up to 15C and 40% humidity is completely insane. Last few days have been barely tolerable and if my apartment temps continue to increase with the forecasted outside temperatures I would like the host to either issue a full refund so I can stay somewhere else or deliver a 10 000 BTU stand alone AC unit. Is that unreasonable?

Quests: this fallen empire gives the quest "Imperial Census". They order you, the "governor" of your "province", to conduct a census. First, you get an event where you choose whether you'll transmit factual data (paying 500 influence and giving them full sensor link of your empire for a year) or fabricated data. No matter what you choose, the FE is angry that the data you transmit is "drivel that does not even remotely conform to Form 3692: Imperial Census" and demands to format it according to the regulations. They do not give you a sample. You have to conduct a unique intelligence operation "Steal Form 3692" in one of the imperial province tiny vassal states (unlike the FE itself, they aren't immune to espionage). It's a situation that lasts 1 year, you need to steal Form 3692 and research a special project that costs 1000 Society Research to format your census data according to their bureaucratic form. If you complete this quest before the situation runs out, the FE will be happy and become Patronizing.
Demands: if this FE is for some reason angry at you, they claim that your "Province" never paid taxes to the imperial core since the day it was founded by the Emperor's decree. Hi there,
I have a 2017 BMW 330i and it has become a money pit. So, I will be trying to sell it as soon as it's in sellable shape. But, last week I got a message on my screen that said "top off coolant. engine could overheat." I called BMW because I just paid $500 for a flush and coolant in July. He said to bring it or tow it in. There were no other signs of overheating, just the message. The temp on the dash was normal.
I attempted to drive the 10 minutes to dealership (I honestly thought this was a sensor thing or something bc it had just come on and I didnt think it could go from a message to overheating in a day/3 miles). On the way, I got a similar message on screen but it was red and said "engine overheating." So, I pulled over on side of hwy and had it towed to BMW.
The BMW tech provided my invoice, stating: TECHNICIAN PULLED CAR IN AND NOTICED THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT WAS ON. TECH REMOVED COOLANT RESERVOIR CAP TO INSPECT COOLANT AND FOUND NO COOLANT WAS PRESENT IN THE SYSTEM. TECHNICIAN FILLED SYSTEM WITH WATER TO PRESSURE TEST THE COOLING SYSTEM AND FOUND THAT THE OIL FILTER HOUSING FAILING RESULTING IN A MASSIVE LOSS OF COOLANT. NECESSARY TO REPLACE OIL FILTER HOUSING AND PRESSURE TEST SYSTEM TO ENSURE NO MORE LEAKS.
The cost for this was quoted at $3103. I looked up the part and it's like $700-800. The tech called and told me yes, the part is $750 but it will take them 11 hours to fix. This seems extreme and so does the $200/hour labor charge. But, maybe that is normal. The time seems extensive.

I have a 2017 BMW 330i and it has become a money pit. So, I will be trying to sell it as soon as it's in sellable shape. But, last week I got a message on my screen that said "top off coolant. engine could overheat." I called BMW because I just paid $500 for a flush and coolant in July. He said to bring it or tow it in. There were no other signs of overheating, just the message. The temp on the dash was normal.
I attempted to drive the 10 minutes to dealership (I honestly thought this was a sensor thing or something bc it had just come on and I didnt think it could go from a message to overheating in a day/3 miles). On the way, I got a similar message on screen but it was red and said "engine overheating." So, I pulled over on side of hwy and had it towed to BMW.
The BMW tech provided my invoice, stating: TECHNICIAN PULLED CAR IN AND NOTICED THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT WAS ON. TECH REMOVED COOLANT RESERVOIR CAP TO INSPECT COOLANT AND FOUND NO COOLANT WAS PRESENT IN THE SYSTEM. TECHNICIAN FILLED SYSTEM WITH WATER TO PRESSURE TEST THE COOLING SYSTEM AND FOUND THAT THE OIL FILTER HOUSING FAILING RESULTING IN A MASSIVE LOSS OF COOLANT. NECESSARY TO REPLACE OIL FILTER HOUSING AND PRESSURE TEST SYSTEM TO ENSURE NO MORE LEAKS.
The cost for this was quoted at $3103. I looked up the part and it's like $700-800. The tech called and told me yes, the part is $750 but it will take them 11 hours to fix. This seems extreme and so does the $200/hour labor charge. But, maybe that is normal. The time seems extensive.

This post, in its fullness, is about Ta Mando and the Shiftverse, a setting we'll talk about in a bit but before we get started I do wanna mention something kind of neat.
I've vaguely alluded to how I learned about jumpchains, mentioning that it was through a CYOA creator who also does jumps. Pre-pandemic I was a member of the Make Your Choice & NSFW CYOA communities, and I saw FancyFireDrake's Goddess of Mankind CYOA and I really liked it so I checked out some of their other stuff. At the time I was already paying attention to NSFW CYOAs because of TroyxPage, specifically Grand Adonis which to this day remains at least in my top three favorite CYOAs of all time, and when I saw that I really liked Goddess of Mankind I wanted to see what else FFD had done so I looked through their stuff and saw stuff on Jumpchains. This was happening around the same time I was joining the Shiftverse as a player.
Through the power of coincidence I was joining the Shiftverse, an original setting by a friend of mine named Philososhy, at about the same time I was learning about jumpchains and beginning to really discover the power of crossover fan fiction and stuff like that. Here's a little bit of canon Luciano Lore; as a child I began writing, which is part of what I do professionally and semi-professionally, by writing self insert crossover fan fiction though at the time I didn't know these things had terms. I was raised overseas, as I am an army brat, and I was homeschooled, and my family wanted me to get into reading and writing, and so they had me write stories. I don't think they anticipated the lifelong rollercoaster that that would send me on. Anyways, back to the central topic.
The very, very basic gist of the shiftverse from a player character perspective, is that player characters are... reality TV stars whose lives are shows airing on multiversal, cosmic televisions, and they are watched by monstrous, unknowable beings, while the player characters go from world to world, for various different amounts of time, and just LIVE among the inhabitants of the world, free to do as they please and to interact with locals however they wish. I did insert SOME traits of myself in them, they are non-binary, they are bilingual, they are a charisma main, but my ORIGINAL idea for this character was for them to be a Caribbean Homelander (they have a few different powers, namely the powers of Superman (Smallville style, so the powers are steadily growing and new ones become accessible over time) & a set of social powers, which along with Omega Beams and some doctohealer stuff represent their STARTING kit, in the time since they've arrived they've become a champion of a deity of truth and honor, gained the very beginnings of a dragon's power set, and have attuned to the Ta Mando equivalent to The Force, so we love a chaotic ass power-grabber). That idea... did not last long. Jonathan has been in Ta Mando for a few months now, and is a solidly moral person due in large part to the fucking nightmare they had to endure in the beginning of their time here (they were deliberately summoned by the people of a colony of Kanda who were in a bad spot, and Jon has largely succeeded in solving SOME of the problems but it was ROUGH), and the growth they've endured as a result of both pain and the good things they've done since they arrived. Some other primes include characters with really strong magic stuff, someone who is a Saiyan, and a person who is the Avatar, as well as people more attuned to the Ta Mando version of the force and a Space Marine, so as you can see our power sets can VARY.
There are other vague similarities with Jumpchains, such as vague similarities between items in jumps and items in shifts, as a prime tends to get SOME basic items at the start of a chain (usually a facility which serves as a house, which can differ from prime to prime, and functions as a bit of a less protected/more accessible warehouse) but not ALL primes get that and SOME primes get WILDLY more advanced facilities than others. OTHER items can be included as well, as my character has stuff for medicine and farming, and I know of other primes who've got uranium mines, lightsabers, and even pets as part of their starting kit. There ARE difference, one of the biggest differences is that a shift's (the in-universe term for a stint in a world/setting) length is NOT a decade and can last however long the eldritch beings who run the show feel like, though from what I, Luciano, know it seems like most last about a human lifetime, though there are some that last WILDLY longer than that. Another significant difference, as has been explained and hinted at to my character, is that remembering the details of a shift once you leave is not guaranteed, nor is having and keeping the same powers you once had, and all of this is similar to the idea of drawbacks in a jumpchain but these changes, as far as I know, across shifts do not confer any advantages in exchange like a jumpchain drawback does.
Anyways, Ta Mando is my favorite TTRPG setting I've ever been in, there's a lot to discover, there's a lot more for me to do there, and I sometimes think about doing a Shiftverse jumpdoc. I think it'd be very funny to blend the two systems like how I've blended the Troyverse & Jumpchains, and how I plan to blend Akumakami64's Love Azathoth CYOA (have a little surprise announcement, as a treat, for making it this far, but do note that I'm in the middle of my busiest time of the year so this won't be for a minute), but truthfully I just don't know enough to really do it justice. Maybe someday I'll make a jumpdoc for The Shiftverse. it could be fun honestly.

I've vaguely alluded to how I learned about jumpchains, mentioning that it was through a CYOA creator who also does jumps. Pre-pandemic I was a member of the Make Your Choice & NSFW CYOA communities, and I saw FancyFireDrake's Goddess of Mankind CYOA and I really liked it so I checked out some of their other stuff. At the time I was already paying attention to NSFW CYOAs because of TroyxPage, specifically Grand Adonis which to this day remains at least in my top three favorite CYOAs of all time, and when I saw that I really liked Goddess of Mankind I wanted to see what else FFD had done so I looked through their stuff and saw stuff on Jumpchains. This was happening around the same time I was joining the Shiftverse as a player.
Through the power of coincidence I was joining the Shiftverse, an original setting by a friend of mine named Philososhy, at about the same time I was learning about jumpchains and beginning to really discover the power of crossover fan fiction and stuff like that. Here's a little bit of canon Luciano Lore; as a child I began writing, which is part of what I do professionally and semi-professionally, by writing self insert crossover fan fiction though at the time I didn't know these things had terms. I was raised overseas, as I am an army brat, and I was homeschooled, and my family wanted me to get into reading and writing, and so they had me write stories. I don't think they anticipated the lifelong rollercoaster that that would send me on. Anyways, back to the central topic.
The Shiftverse
Before we get started I wanna say that I'm describing a LIVING setting I'm a PLAYER in not the MASTER of so this information will be necessarily limited and imperfect. Ta Mando
I'm not gonna say much here, I'll just post two links. One is to the World Anvil for Ta Mando, one SPECIFIC setting in the Shiftverse (there are many worlds someone could get shifted too, Ta Mando is just one of them). The other is to my character's World Anvil page, Jonathan Mondragon. This is not SUPER up to date, but it's the beginning of a good set of articles for people in Soterri, as well as a way to learn more about my adventures. Also, this is a text-based TTRPG campaign and we play using GURPS. It's... weird. I'm very much a D&D person, I've been playing D&D over half of my life (literally, I'm 29, the first time I played D&D I was 13, and I had the books BEFORE then), so it's been an adjustment. I like it though, my character DOES feel powerful and has had plenty of kicks moments, but just LEARNING what I can do and the mechanics of everything was a trip.Anyways, Ta Mando is my favorite TTRPG setting I've ever been in, there's a lot to discover, there's a lot more for me to do there, and I sometimes think about doing a Shiftverse jumpdoc. My dad recently passed, and I have his desert rose that was once beautiful, I’m trying to get it back to its glory days. I’ve loved this plant for as long as my dad had it. Unfortunately it was infested with bugs, little black ant like bugs and little white bugs that had webbings or cotton like webs on the end of the branches. When I got the pa Plant home I had it isolated near a window in my garage when I noticed the bugs crawling all over it, I immediately removed all the dirt, removed the desert rose from the pot and thoroughly cleaned the root system out. I have read conflicting articles about how big of a pot it should be in. It probably has outgrown the pot it was in as it was very tight in the current pot, but also not opposed to putting it back in what it came with. Just need some potting instructions, does it need soil? Or lava rock mixture? What’s a good watering schedule for them? I live in the Midwest. Is there any fertilizer I should use or treatment to make sure these bugs stay away? This is the current status of it (picture posted) |

Am I too much?
My boyfriend and I are new. We’ve been “official” for two months now and are quite serious. We’ve discussed the word love, but haven’t really put it out there. He has stated several times that he believes I’m in love with him but that he believes I’m holding it back to protect myself. He says I should let them out. I’ve repeatedly told him I’m nervous to do so because I’m not trying to rush this already fast paced relationship and that I don’t want my feelings to be vocalized and he not feel the same way. I told him I want to make sure my feelings are safe first, and he insists that they are with him. Just this weekend, he said “what if something happened to me and you never told me?” That statement stayed in my head during the entire scenario I’m writing about.
His wife passed almost a year ago, and since we met, he insists he’s ready to move forward in life. We talk about the future, but I’ve been a bit wary because I know this is all new to him. He is an amazing man and treats me wonderfully.
He’s 56 and I’m 45 but we live about 50ish miles from one another. We make a point to see each other as much as possible. We also make a point to communicate with one another every. Single. Day. We talk every morning before work, text throughout our day, and stay on the phone several hours at night. The only time we break this routine is when one of us is out of town or away visiting family, but we discuss that ahead of time.
This weekend, he came to my hometown, and we spent an amazing weekend together. We had the best time. At the end of the weekend, we both went home, (this was maybe 10am) but I never heard of he made it home safely. I texted him around 1 just to ask. Never heard a word. Then texted around 5pm to let him know I was going to a friend’s house and would call him when I got back home. Told him I hope his day was going well. We usually do check in texts when we know we will be unavailable.
I get home that night around 10pm and ask him to just please let me know if he’s ok. I then call but it goes straight to voicemail. Then again around 12am to let him know I’m worried. I go to bed.
I wake up around 6 am and see no missing calls or messages, so I call him. Straight to voicemail again, so now I’m worried. I go to work and still hear nothing from him, so around 9:30am (24 hours later), I call back. Same thing. This is very unlike him, and I start to panic.
What would you do at this point? I really hesitate doing everything else next, but I’m worried. I call his job to give him a message to contact me. I’m ready to leave it at that and wait. I don’t have his number memorized, so I’m sure with a dead phone that he doesn’t know mine. His job calls me back around 11am and says “ma’am. You called early to deliver a message to ———. Well, I’m calling you back to let you know that ——— isn’t here for us to deliver the message. I definitely was not expecting that and my fear sets in. That was a strange phone call to me.
I’m worried he’s hurt, and especially with not hearing a peep from him for over 24 hours, I leave work early around 12pm and head his way. I get to his house, and he’s not there. I go to his job next, but I don’t go in. Instead, I call a second time. I speak with the same person, and she asks my relation. I tell him I’m her girlfriend. She pauses and says “I’m not supposed to say anything, but I’ll just say this. His family knows what’s going on with him.” I tell her thank you then hang up.
To me, that means something happened. So I go to his mom’s house. Again, I am doubting all of my actions, but at this point, I’m thinking he’s hurt. We are new and haven’t introduced one another to family other than one person. Outside of our own information and the names of our jobs, we don’t have contact info for one another, so I’m unsure what to do during all of this. I decide I’d rather be the crazy lady that did too much than sit back and not know what happened.
So, I’ve been to his mom’s house but never inside. The one time I went, it was late at night and he had to pick something up, and I didn’t want to meet her for the first time in that manner. I have met his sister briefly before. So, I’m at his mom’s house and knock on the door. I explain what’s happening and she invites me in. She does not know who I am, but that’s not unusual. If the situation were reversed, my parents would not know who he is either. She tells me he is in the hospital and that she was there earlier and he should be home later. She told me what happened which is concerning but fits with what he’s told me about his medical history.
She gives me a different phone number for him. She says he had to get another phone the day before because he cracked the one with the number I have. I call it and it just rings. Then I ask the hospital number. She doesn’t give it to me (again, I don’t blame her) but tells me the hospital name and that the system at the hospital is down.
I go to the hospital. The system is down. I ask information, and they say something about ransomeware. After a while of asking, I leave and go sit somewhere to wait. I’m praying he will call me. I text the number his mom gave me and later the number calls back, rings once then hangs up. I call it back, rings then voicemail.
After about 3 hours after getting that number from his mom, the number calls me back. It’s him, and he’s pissed. He says I did too much. He’s mad I called his job because he doesn’t want them in his business. He says he could see if it was two or three days but not one. I told him something felt off and it turns out I was right. He was in the hospital. He asked why I did it all and I told him because he went all outside of our routine in a big way. He told me we don’t have a pattern and not to look for one. We definitely have a pattern. We even talked about it this weekend and I told him how much I love his consistency. I apologized if I overstepped and said I thought we were serious enough for our actions. He said we are that serious but proceeds to say I did too much. He wouldn’t let me come to the hospital to see him and said he needed some uninterrupted time to himself so I went home. I didn’t even respond and I don’t plan to. I feel like I should just step alllllllll the way back. I also think he’s panicking because he’s only used to being loved by his late wife.
I do love this man, but it feels like he took all that love he said he saw and wanted and threw it back in my face. I’ve made it clear that I’m intense. I would have done the same had it been my parents, my kids, siblings, friends, etc. when we talk again, I know I won’t be the same. I don’t trust him with my feelings anymore.
We haven’t talked since. I’m sure he’s doubting me because I’m surely doubting him. Not once did he acknowledge what I went through to check on him. And he wasn’t trying to listen. I told him I’m happy he’s ok but I listened to my intuition which said he wasn’t and it was right. He said don’t listen to that. I told him that had I heard from him just once that he was ok, none of this would have ever happened. Are my intentions even important here?
I know my actions are a lot and this is a lot to read, so if you’ve made it this far, thank you.

I've played tarkov since 2017 ( a year after it's release) and a few things I'd like to note. First I'm not going to mention the obvious with the new edition.
To start, I hate this new Era of "Early Access" titles, when it's really just an excuse to not produce the game at the start. Dayz is not exception. If you were to tell me in 2017 that tarkov would not be in 1.0 I would have waited to buy. I have 1500 hours so it's been fun, but the fact that they do "major" changes every year vs wipe is so pointless. Since you get no real rewards for playing each wipe or even reaching kappa, the next wipe feels stale. Sure we got 3 new maps in the past 5 years but they've been unrunnable and not fun to learn. Adding landmines and other zones to new maps is just frustrating when they are in the middle of the map. When "Early Access" is thrown around I usually think that they are experimenting and trying to find and fix what works best. BSG however makes very tiny changes and will brandish them as game breaking. Each year I've played, audio, performance, and cheating have not only been a problem but all seemed to get worse as new content arrives. The rapid changes they are making because of the new failure they brought is how the game should of been handled to begin with. IMO I feel like having the same quests (with the exception of a FEW new ones) gets boring. For the people who haven't gotten kappa, it's fun getting until you've gotten it once or twice then it just feels stale, kinda like beating a story game a few times. If they have 3 separate quest lines, COMPLETELY different containing 0 quests from each similar, per wipe of the year (3 wipes usually per year). I feel like a game that's been out for 8+ years should of been out of Early Access years ago.

Money and guns don't matter from it, but a lvl 4 stash and gamma case makes a huge difference, and I'd still argue there are less than 100 people that have gotten Kappa that haven't owned EoD.
Arena is the last thing I wanna talk about, I know I got a large wall of text. BSG was so upset about arena doing bad they felt the need to make another cash grab with UHE. Arena however could of and CAN still be fixed easily. First remove all the maps in it now. Second add snips from maps similar hlto how CSGO did their 2v2 maps where they are fractions of other maps. Snips from maps like customs, maybe making it a Dorms fight, or for bigger team battles maybe even sawmill from woods. This would be the absolute cheapest way to get players to play, while still having features like voip. Of course the biggest change and most important, is stop trying to be CS or valorant. We don't need a buy system with money yatatat that's not what Arena needs. I'm fine with TDM and I enjoyed the 2v2 3v3 5v5 tournament mode but stop with the money to items modes. Also important, the weapons, armor, ammo etc... I hate what I'm about to say, but this feature needs to be copied from Call of Duty. What I mean is that you can make custom loadouts with whatever you want. Yes I get that it would issue a meta to the game but a system like this where armor and ammo stay at mid tier would work way better than play the game for 50h they you get to get a dusk cover on your ak. Another system, which is the one I want more, is one that compares to both Arena and Regular. Guns, ammo, armor, etc... pull directly from your stash, if it's tdm you'd keep the weapon and total ammo you had per death, where as a more hardcore version would be you can die and get looted per round and lose/gain gear giving more or less incentive to the quality of gear brought. There could be quest and other reqards that would give some help towards your Tarkov Regular character such as money and gear. This would give a boost to Early game and players not familiar with active combat. With familiar maps and situations relative to the real game, this would 100% give people a reason to buy Arena. But similar to other games the way to prevent fall off of the game even with changes, is a reward system that bsg can control. Rewards like winning a tournament gives you permanent clothing or gives you a random item like scav junk case does in the hideout. With rewards and a rotation on maps in the pool Arena would easily be playable.

To start, I hate this new Era of "Early Access" titles, when it's really just an excuse to not produce the game at the start. Dayz is not exception. If you were to tell me in 2017 that tarkov would not be in 1.0 I would have waited to buy. I have 1500 hours so it's been fun, but the fact that they do "major" changes every year vs wipe is so pointless. Since you get no real rewards for playing each wipe or even reaching kappa, the next wipe feels stale. Sure we got 3 new maps in the past 5 years but they've been unrunnable and not fun to learn. Adding landmines and other zones to new maps is just frustrating when they are in the middle of the map. When "Early Access" is thrown around I usually think that they are experimenting and trying to find and fix what works best. BSG however makes very tiny changes and will brandish them as game breaking. Each year I've played, audio, performance, and cheating have not only been a problem but all seemed to get worse as new content arrives. The rapid changes they are making because of the new failure they brought is how the game should of been handled to begin with. IMO I feel like having the same quests (with the exception of a FEW new ones) gets boring. For the people who haven't gotten kappa, it's fun getting until you've gotten it once or twice then it just feels stale, kinda like beating a story game a few times. If they have 3 separate quest lines, COMPLETELY different containing 0 quests from each similar, per wipe of the year (3 wipes usually per year). I feel like a game that's been out for 8+ years should of been out of Early Access years ago.

Apologies if this gets long-winded. Up until last month I was a journalist covering anime and manga, so I think I just have to get some words out of my system. Also, and obviously: Spoilers for Dress Up Darling to its current chapters, as well as the manga/anime One Week Friends.
I really enjoyed reading the recent posts from everyone on the analysis regarding chapter 100, if it feels like the book has lost its momentum, how the Comiket arc has made everyone feel, and so on. As someone that came to SBD/DUD via the anime but has dove into the manga heavy during the lull, it's refreshing to see a community taking an introspective look at the story, its arc, and the tug-of-war that seems to go on in regards to romance story versus cosplay tale.
But I also think that, by and large, falling into and caring too much about the "Will They/Won't They" of the story is a trap, and one that, if obsessed over for too long, inevitably leads to feeling let down by the time this story hits its conclusion.
On that note, let's talk about One Week Friends.
Initially released in 2012, Isshūkan Friends shares a lot of DNA with Dress-Up Darling. Both Square Enix joints, the two feature a very similar two-character lead romance dynamic. OWF is the story of Hase, a nervous high school boy who has a massive crush on his seemingly-ice queen class mate, Kaori. Taking a chance one day, he declares to her that he wants to be friends. However, she rejects him almost immediately. He comes to find that it wasn't because she doesn't want friends, but that she suffers from a condition that causes her memories to reset after a week. So, as a protective measure for herself, she just lives a life of stagnation--never making friends, never changing anything. At least until Hase comes around.
The story from there is familiar to Dress-Up Darling, in that a lot of the romantic tension comes from the perspectives of our two leads, as well as the "when are they going to get together?" of it all. In this case, the two sources of tension are as follows:
Kaori: Is entering into a friendship or having romantic feelings in her state fair to the other person? How does it affect her personally to have those feelings but only remember them through a journal--though her memory does begin to improve slightly over time. Is she worthy or friendship or love?
Hase: At a point, he places Kaori on a bit of a pedestal because he's been the only one to reach out to and make progress with this friendless girl. However, as their friend group grows and she becomes a more normal and stable person, he begins to resent not only losing this feeling of specialness, but the fact that he's feeling that way at all--no longer feeling like he's worthy of being there for her.
The parallels to Dress-Up Darling and the most recent stretch of the manga are apparent, as heartbreaking as its been to watching Marin and Gojo fumble in the metaphorical dark in that way that teen romance does so well. For Marin, she's in love with a boy that, at times feels distant, or that his main focus is the work. She's hesitated to confess her feelings time and again, both for the sake of comedy but also just because she's a teenager, and that kind of thing is hard for anyone to confess. She keeps hoping to create situations--some magical moment--where things fall into place and they both confess their true feelings, but circumstances and fate have kind of interfered to that point. However, she knows he's the only person in her life that's ever saw her for who she really is, and that's something she probably feels disconnected from as she approaches the precipice of cosplay stardom and feels more disconnected from Gojo than ever.
Meanwhile, Gojo has a similar issue to Hase in One Week Friends: He's placed this girl on a pedestal. A perfect doll that he isn't worthy of. So, he did the only thing he could ever do: Focus on the work and trying to show he cares through supporting her. However, he's hit the end road of that path, with 'Princess' now seen by the work at Comiket and feeling like, to him, that Marin has outgrown him. He feels unworthy of telling her how he feels.
And yes, both of them are idiots, but that's why we love stories like this in manga and anime.
In the case of One Week Friends, I always felt like that story somewhat fumbled the ball. The anime and the first run of the manga end on a very saccharine, melodramatic note. The two leads have a falling out, but then a memorable reunion on new year's day where they both somewhat confess their feelings. A lot of fans felt left out in the cold that the series didn't end in a full-blown confirmation of love--or even a kiss, but thems the breaks sometimes.
In the case of Dress-Up Darling, I think the takeaway to learn from is that the big, apex moment for this story is inevitably going to be the confession of love. It's what drew the most people into the story and thing that everyone on this sub is obviously waiting for. However, we really don't know if that's the way the mangaka views it, nor if that's the focus.
As insane as that feels to say. After all, what are we doing here if not waiting for Marin and Gojo to figure things out, stop being dumb, and just say how they feel?
Whether or not Dress-Up Darling nails the landing is going to completely depend on that moment. However, I remain optimistic. In a perfect world, I'd want the story to end with that confession finally happening: Marin realizing she needs to go after the things she wants and that the thing that kept her going all this time wasn't the finished product of the cosplay, but the memories made along the way. For Gojo, he needs to stop treating Marin like another hina doll--something to be placed up on a shelf and put behind a glass case, un approachable and only deserving of love from afar. He has to take agency in his own life and needs.
Personally, I could think of nothing better than this series ending with that confession happening and the last chapter detailing how Marin wants to do a cosplay of a traditional Hina Doll, making Gojo think its for an upcoming event. They work together as normal on it, the process and journey being the important part--with the final scene being them getting her ready in his room as always, with Gojo finally asking what the event is for. She responds, fully dressed as that thing Gojo has so admired for the longest time, that the event is just for him, and it always will be. Cut to that big two-page spread shot smile of her, but this time in Hina Doll garb.
Anyways, I'm going back to work.

 | Both me and my opponent are on low head health, his lower than mine. I hit him and interrupted his hook with my uppercut first but his hook goes straight through without an issue and I get knocked out when not even in a health event state. From what everyone says interrupting someone else’s strike with a powerful hook or uppercut should drop them but when I’m playing the knockout systems seems inconsistent. I get stunned every time I hit them but when I do it to them even with powerful hits they are in phases and there attacks go straight through. Is there something I’m missing? That seemed like it should’ve favoured me and at least stunned him instead of me. Is it because he hit me with a jab before that his next follow up hit does more damage or something? 2024.05.14 17:12 Tartanclad How Gates of Hell could make a Commonwealth faction truly unique
Recently Gates of Hell released the American faction and did a full overhaul of the German faction, leading to a pair of interesting factions with an incredible variety of historically authentic uniforms. You could zoom in on any of the squads and see the diverse uniforms depicted right down to the insignia on their caps and the regiments on their patches. Shermanator’s interview of Chase/Trudel (the lead animator & 3D human artist) gave me faith in the developer’s passion for the history and the game. This made me quite excited, because we have yet to see a British Commonwealth faction but there is some heavy implication that we can expect one in the future.
I wanted to make this thread, because I wanted to express my desire to see elements in the game that would make the Commonwealth faction a wealth of interesting units, uniforms and nationalities, particularly via the doctrines system that exists within the game. The intention is to throw in representatives across all the major nations of the British Commonwealth as well as some of the Allied armies-in-exile that came under British command. I also want to highlight some of the vehicles that are rarely mentioned in other games due to their obscure theatre or role. For the record, I'm not telling the devs what to do - I'm just making some example doctrines that I came up with as an example of the variety of units I'd love to see and making their inclusion plausible. Mostly to get the community talking.
I won’t talk about early war, partially because ‘Early war’ in Gates of Hell is largely post-Dunkirk, but also because I feel like what I am asking is still quite a lot just for one faction across two eras. I also I won’t be mentioning the more obvious or general units like Stuarts, Crusaders, Cromwells, Grants etc, as I expect them to be added nonetheless. It’s the vaguer aspects of the Commonwealth I wanted to talk about; the weird, wonderful and the diverse.
Mid War Doctrines
I think the mid-war should be largely inspired by the North African Campaigns, centred largely on the 8th Army and utilising the huge variety of cultures that fought within it. Extra bits can be added from the Italian campaign where the faction is lacking, and the Italian campaign can also be represented in the ‘Temperate’ skin for the mid-war faction. There are a lot of inspirations one can draw to create a variety of options for the Commonwealth player and each doctrine should draw from their unique aspects.
All-Round: Inspired by the Desert Rats, the 2nd Battle of El Alamein and Operation Crusader this one balances the various aspects of the other doctrines while keeping it unique. I’d like to see the Infantry include British Desert Rats Infantry, 2nd New Zealand Infantry, & 1st South African Infantry. I’d also like to see South African Marmon-Herrington Armoured Cars (multiple variants) as an early-battle option, plenty of the more common tanks and maybe the Bishop as a slow but mobile artillery piece. As a special call-in, we could probably include the Free French Legionaries as a powerful assault unit, just to really complete the variety in this division.
Defensive: Inspired by the Siege of Tobruk, this doctrine should primarily represent the Australians. Variations of the Australian 9th Division troops as infantry alongside minor British elements with a heavy emphasis on field engineers, emplacements and field guns. Defensive doctrine could also include RAF Regiment infantry, RAF 20mm Oerlikon guns, RAF Rolls Royces, India Pattern Carriers (from the Indian 18th Division), air strikes and, as a special unit, they could even have captured Italian tanks from the 6th Australian Division Cavalry Regiment! As a defensive doctrine, they should also have access to the best mid-war field guns, including the rare (but historical) ’Pheasant’ 17/25 Pounder Field Gun.
Offensive: Inspired by the Battle of Tunisia and Operation Torch, I think this one should show off the might of the UK’s heavier vehicles in the latter stages of the African campaign, particularly the Churchill III, Sherman III, the Priest 105mm and the Stuart Command Tank, alongside the more standard British tank options. As for infantry options, we can include Indian troops of the 4th Infantry Division (India), Gurkhas, and a motorised unit of 22nd Guards Infantry. I would also add the British Commandos in this division - partly because they were involved in Operation Torch, but also because they had an iconic impact on the mid-war (outside of Africa) that it would be a pity not to add them.
Irregular: This one would be quite unique in mid-war as it is effectively the light vehicle special forces doctrine. Although some standard British units would form the basis of the army, they would have access to a variety of assets representing the Long Range Desert Group; Chevrolet trucks with mounted Vickers MGs, Boys AT rifles, twin 303 Brownings or even Bofors and captured 20mm Breda guns! ‘Bamtam’ jeeps with twin Vickers Ks or 303 Brownings. The transport and logistics would be different too, using the Marmon-Herrington 6-ton Heavy Truck or the White 1064 10-ton. Other unique special call-ins would include an LRDG WACO Recon plane and the SAS (armed with the Lewes bomb). The downside to this doctrine, however, is that imagine it to be much lighter on armoured support, relying mostly on towed guns for its heavy firepower.
Other Units: I’ve tried to use inspirations from specific parts of the war to get a rounded but also diverse array of units, but there are loads of obscure units across the mid-war that I’d love to see; the Priest 105mm SPG, the AEC Deacon Gun Carrier, the Daimler Dingo, the Humber Light Reconnaissance, and so on.
That is as much as I want to say on mid-war without labouring the point. I’m sure there’s interesting things I’ve missed accidentally, and I’m afraid there’s some I have missed on purpose. For example, I considered the Australian Matilda Hedgehog, but it turned out to be late war and never used. I also considered the Greek and the Czech Division, but I think I’ve already stretched it too far as regards voice acting alone without adding units that, as distinguished their service might be, are just too obscure without adding anything extra - appearance or gameplay. That said, my hat would go off to the devs if they achieved that.
Late War Doctrines
Here we get to represent the Commonwealth units from Operation Overlord up until Operation Varsity.
All-Round: The quintessential British doctrine, combining bog-standard infantry with hardy tanks and a decent array of equipment. Partially based on Gold Beach, but also Operation Varsity/Plunder towards the end of the war, I would personally give them 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry, RAF Regiment Gunners, RAF Humber Light AC, Churchill AVRE, the Cruiser Mk. VIII Challenger and the Comet. Maybe give them some 6th Airlanding troops and 1st Canadian Parachute Infantry as a reference to the Normandy paratroopers if we feel they need more skilled infantry.
Offensive: The Canadian Doctrine - mostly inspired by the First Canadian Army in Normandy with elements of their experiences later on (including the Battle of the Schelt and Operation Veritable) with the doctrine largely focused on armoured assault infantry. They’ll look quite unique compared to the British because their uniforms were greener and they were the first to use the British-designed Mk.III helmet at D-Day. Troops of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division as standard, supported by assault infantry. Eventually, armoured infantry can spawn in Buffalos (used at the Battle of the Schelt) and, as a special call-in, Ram Kangaroo APCs (sporting an armoured MG turret). The Otter armoured car would be an early call-in, with M4A1 Sherman Grizzly tanks as well as Ram IIs available in the standard tank tab. Some unique but limited special call-ins would include the Skink AA tank (of which 2 saw historical combat in Normandy) as well as a skilled sniper wielding the Ross rifle.
Defensive: Just as the US Defensive doctrine features the 101st Airborne (no doubt inspired by the Battle of Bastogne), the British Defensive doctrine can feature the British Airborne - particularly based on the defense of Arnhem Bridge in the Netherlands as part of Market Garden. Infantry units can include the 52nd (Lowland) Infantry, 1st Airborne Paratroopers, 1st Airlanding Infantry, Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers and 1st (Polish) Independent Paratroopers (who are distinctive with their grey berets). Armoured units can include the Tetrarch and the M22 Locust. To suit their defensive doctrine, they should get some decent guns and I’m thinking the airborne jeep-towed 20mm Polsten Gun, airborne 17th Pounder as well as (in a departure from the Parachute theme) the BL 7.2-inch howitzer. The Patchett sub-machine gun could make an appearance here too.
Irregular: Based on Sword Beach, Commandos and the 79th Armoured Division, with the more unusual units in the British arsenal. Probably with 3rd Infantry Division Infantry as standard, this unit could have access to No.41 (Royal Marine) Commandos, Fusilier Marines Commandos (based on No.4 Commando’s assault on Ouestreham), the Centaur Mk.IV QF 95mm, the Sherman DD, the Churchill Crocodile and Royal Engineer Assault Teams deployed in the cute Terrapin 4-ton Amphibious. If we want to be really wacky, we could even add the M3 Grant CDL (an unarmed searchlight tank) for armoured spotting, similar to the 150cm Flakscheinwerfer searchlight.
Other Units: Further unique units that would fit in any one (or multiple) of these divisions (based on balance) include the Land Mattress Rocket Launcher, the Loyd Carrier, the Universal Carrier WASP (flamethrower), the Sexton SPG, Sherman Firefly, the Archer TD, Achilles TD, the Priest Kangaroo, the Morris C8, Staghound and so on. There are SO many strange and obscure British vehicles that don’t often see the light of day, but would be perfect for Gates of Hell.
Post-release Doctrines -
More of a final thought than anything else, but if/when the Japanese get added into the game, I’d love to see a fifth doctrine to represent the British 14th Army to match the Japanese. A doctrine that is mostly comprised of Indian infantry and Indian tanks, with representation from the East/West African Divisions, Gurkhas and the British 2nd or 36th Infantry Divisions. Special call-ins could include the Chindits (using Thompsons and the Jungle Carbine) and paratroopers of the 50th Indian Parachute Brigade. If we’re feeling generous enough to allow the doctrine to encompass the Pacific Islands as well, we could also include an Australian squad armed with the Owen SMG, South Pacific Scouts, the Matida Frog (flamethrower) and the Matilda QF 3-Inch.
Conclusion: I apologise for such a long read. But I hope we see how a bit of ambition could really help the Commonwealth stand out and be worthy of the variety seen in the other factions since their overhaul. While the Germans have Spanish soldiers in their ranks, the Commonwealth can see the UK, Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Poland, and France (and technically Nepal) all get some recognition. While the German Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe stand out on the field, the Commonwealth might get the distinctive blue battledress of the RAF Regiment, or the long white tunics of the Foreign Legion. We would see such a variety of hats including pith helmets, berets, kepis, dastars, keffiyehs and slouch hats. Some units, like the LRDG vehicles, might even stand out as unique from any of the nations already in the game. It’s a lot of colourful uniforms, a lot of voices and a lot of strange and wonderful machines.
However, it does come with its downsides. Firstly, Africa and Europe are such dramatically different theatres that their version of mid & late war are incredibly different to one another. So much so that the depth of variety might make the faction too big, making it a lot of effort for the art department (especially with uniforms changing for the map’s climate. Imagine making skins for temperate, desert AND snow). The second issue is whether France is getting its own faction in future iterations of the game (the French flag appears in the loading screen during Axis vs Allies games). The final (and probably biggest) issue is voice acting. I’m no expert on games development, but I gather that getting enough voice actors for a faction is hard enough as it is without having to accurately represent 9 countries at once. I would love to hear the developer’s thoughts on the matter - whether such a project is within the game’s scope and if they have the ambition to take it this far.

I wanted to make this thread, because I wanted to express my desire to see elements in the game that would make the Commonwealth faction a wealth of interesting units, uniforms and nationalities, particularly via the doctrines system that exists within the game. The intention is to throw in representatives across all the major nations of the British Commonwealth as well as some of the Allied armies-in-exile that came under British command. I also want to highlight some of the vehicles that are rarely mentioned in other games due to their obscure theatre or role. For the record, I'm not telling the devs what to do - I'm just making some example doctrines that I came up with as an example of the variety of units I'd love to see and making their inclusion plausible. Mostly to get the community talking.
I won’t talk about early war, partially because ‘Early war’ in Gates of Hell is largely post-Dunkirk, but also because I feel like what I am asking is still quite a lot just for one faction across two eras. I also I won’t be mentioning the more obvious or general units like Stuarts, Crusaders, Cromwells, Grants etc, as I expect them to be added nonetheless. It’s the vaguer aspects of the Commonwealth I wanted to talk about; the weird, wonderful and the diverse.
Mid War Doctrines
I think the mid-war should be largely inspired by the North African Campaigns, centred largely on the 8th Army and utilising the huge variety of cultures that fought within it. Extra bits can be added from the Italian campaign where the faction is lacking, and the Italian campaign can also be represented in the ‘Temperate’ skin for the mid-war faction. There are a lot of inspirations one can draw to create a variety of options for the Commonwealth player and each doctrine should draw from their unique aspects.
All-Round: Inspired by the Desert Rats, the 2nd Battle of El Alamein and Operation Crusader this one balances the various aspects of the other doctrines while keeping it unique. I’d like to see the Infantry include British Desert Rats Infantry, 2nd New Zealand Infantry, & 1st South African Infantry. I’d also like to see South African Marmon-Herrington Armoured Cars (multiple variants) as an early-battle option, plenty of the more common tanks and maybe the Bishop as a slow but mobile artillery piece. As a special call-in, we could probably include the Free French Legionaries as a powerful assault unit, just to really complete the variety in this division.
Defensive: Inspired by the Siege of Tobruk, this doctrine should primarily represent the Australians. Variations of the Australian 9th Division troops as infantry alongside minor British elements with a heavy emphasis on field engineers, emplacements and field guns. Defensive doctrine could also include RAF Regiment infantry, RAF 20mm Oerlikon guns, RAF Rolls Royces, India Pattern Carriers (from the Indian 18th Division), air strikes and, as a special unit, they could even have captured Italian tanks from the 6th Australian Division Cavalry Regiment! As a defensive doctrine, they should also have access to the best mid-war field guns, including the rare (but historical) ’Pheasant’ 17/25 Pounder Field Gun.
Offensive: Inspired by the Battle of Tunisia and Operation Torch, I think this one should show off the might of the UK’s heavier vehicles in the latter stages of the African campaign, particularly the Churchill III, Sherman III, the Priest 105mm and the Stuart Command Tank, alongside the more standard British tank options. As for infantry options, we can include Indian troops of the 4th Infantry Division (India), Gurkhas, and a motorised unit of 22nd Guards Infantry. I would also add the British Commandos in this division - partly because they were involved in Operation Torch, but also because they had an iconic impact on the mid-war (outside of Africa) that it would be a pity not to add them.
Irregular: This one would be quite unique in mid-war as it is effectively the light vehicle special forces doctrine. Although some standard British units would form the basis of the army, they would have access to a variety of assets representing the Long Range Desert Group; Chevrolet trucks with mounted Vickers MGs, Boys AT rifles, twin 303 Brownings or even Bofors and captured 20mm Breda guns! ‘Bamtam’ jeeps with twin Vickers Ks or 303 Brownings. The transport and logistics would be different too, using the Marmon-Herrington 6-ton Heavy Truck or the White 1064 10-ton. Other unique special call-ins would include an LRDG WACO Recon plane and the SAS (armed with the Lewes bomb). The downside to this doctrine, however, is that imagine it to be much lighter on armoured support, relying mostly on towed guns for its heavy firepower.
Other Units: I’ve tried to use inspirations from specific parts of the war to get a rounded but also diverse array of units, but there are loads of obscure units across the mid-war that I’d love to see; the Priest 105mm SPG, the AEC Deacon Gun Carrier, the Daimler Dingo, the Humber Light Reconnaissance, and so on.
That is as much as I want to say on mid-war without labouring the point. I’m sure there’s interesting things I’ve missed accidentally, and I’m afraid there’s some I have missed on purpose. For example, I considered the Australian Matilda Hedgehog, but it turned out to be late war and never used. I also considered the Greek and the Czech Division, but I think I’ve already stretched it too far as regards voice acting alone without adding units that, as distinguished their service might be, are just too obscure without adding anything extra - appearance or gameplay. That said, my hat would go off to the devs if they achieved that.
Late War Doctrines
Here we get to represent the Commonwealth units from Operation Overlord up until Operation Varsity.
All-Round: The quintessential British doctrine, combining bog-standard infantry with hardy tanks and a decent array of equipment. Partially based on Gold Beach, but also Operation Varsity/Plunder towards the end of the war, I would personally give them 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry, RAF Regiment Gunners, RAF Humber Light AC, Churchill AVRE, the Cruiser Mk. VIII Challenger and the Comet. Maybe give them some 6th Airlanding troops and 1st Canadian Parachute Infantry as a reference to the Normandy paratroopers if we feel they need more skilled infantry.
Offensive: The Canadian Doctrine - mostly inspired by the First Canadian Army in Normandy with elements of their experiences later on (including the Battle of the Schelt and Operation Veritable) with the doctrine largely focused on armoured assault infantry. They’ll look quite unique compared to the British because their uniforms were greener and they were the first to use the British-designed Mk.III helmet at D-Day. Troops of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division as standard, supported by assault infantry. Eventually, armoured infantry can spawn in Buffalos (used at the Battle of the Schelt) and, as a special call-in, Ram Kangaroo APCs (sporting an armoured MG turret). The Otter armoured car would be an early call-in, with M4A1 Sherman Grizzly tanks as well as Ram IIs available in the standard tank tab. Some unique but limited special call-ins would include the Skink AA tank (of which 2 saw historical combat in Normandy) as well as a skilled sniper wielding the Ross rifle.
Defensive: Just as the US Defensive doctrine features the 101st Airborne (no doubt inspired by the Battle of Bastogne), the British Defensive doctrine can feature the British Airborne - particularly based on the defense of Arnhem Bridge in the Netherlands as part of Market Garden. While looking for this years fireworks stuff, I found this community. YAY! Makes me excited! So here is a layout of last years display. This year, I want to go bigger: programming with music and lasers. My brother-in-law usually starts things out by hand lighting some fireworks for a bit, then we switch over to my display. I have a 12 shot wireless system. Usually have about 11 cakes and fountains (not shown) each on their own button, then #12 starts the grand finale. The grand finale starts with a slow (fuse is about 12.5 s/f) 24 shot straight up board (8 rows of 4) of consumer shells with a 200g cake or fountain at the end of each row of 4. Next is a 15 shot fan rack (5 rows of 3) of consumer shells, where here I started with a .3- 1 s/f fuse from the middle out, then 2 s/f fuse for the rest. Then on to the 45 shot straight up board (7 rows of 5) of consumer shells, set up like the 25 shot, with the exception of the last 10 shots with 6 s/f fuse. The last 5 rows you'll see 3" shells, a single shot straight up instead of cakes. Things start to get more exciting with the 72 shot fan rack (12 rows of 6) of consumer shells. The fist 36 are fused at about 6 s/f and the last 36 are fused at about 2 s/f. Then we send off the show with a barrage of 3" shells on a 30 shot fan rack (6 rows of 5) where the first 25 are fused at 1.5 s/f and the last row are all set to go off at the same time, as well with as another 4 shot 3" shell fan rack (2 x 2). I am not fan of (and I am not dissing anybody's backyard displays, this is really for the professional shows) the grand finales with the multiple shots that go straight up. With all the colors mixing, I feel you just end up with a blur. With my slow shot boards, as soon as one explodes the next fires, so going straight up is fine. When you get into the barrages and fanning them out, it really fills up the sky with beautiful color! For the consumer shells, I use a mixture of cheapo balls and more expensive canisters (my wife only allows me a limited budget, lol). 99% color, very few salutes. The cheapos stay in the straight up while I reserve the canisters for the fans. For the 3" shells, everything is color except the 4 in the 2 x 2 fan rack, those are my only large salutes. My wife does not like salutes much, so I limit them Hope you enjoy the photos!
