Let's take a look at some anime Live Action Sketches!

2024.01.06 05:03 Naru_the_Narcissist Let's take a look at some anime Live Action Sketches!

Because I can't post this on Anilist, I've decided to turn to this Subreddit to look at something I’ve always had a particular fascination with, live action content! Now, to clarify, I’m not talking about J Drama adaptations. I’m also not talking about interviews or studio tours. Specifically, we’re looking at scripted live action content produced and directed by dubbing companies to supplement their dubbed DVD releases!
Are they all bad? Is there some good in them? Let’s take a look at a few of my favorite examples... Not that there are a lot to choose from!
1: Bento Brawl, from Bento
Ah yes, the anime about starving teenagers battling it out Mortal Kombat style for marked down bento boxes. I like this show, despite it’s noteworthy flaws, but I just don’t feel like there were enough Bento fight scenes in it. Well, funimation must have heard my cries, because on the special features section of disk 2, we get tosee a bunch of real life actors... Including one legit voice actor, Joel Mcdonald. The other named fighter? Justin Rojas, a Funimation employee. My research says “Director of social strategy & Development, and I have not the faintest clue what that means, but hey, he’s our other featured fighter.
This three minute clip begins as a bunch of Funimation employees(I’m assuming, I can’t get any names aside from the two) standing around an empty area of the office... Or who knows where... With half of them interacting with a couple of magazine racks and lazily-put-together merchandise shelves, all while a VERY American looking interpretation of a Bento box sits on a pedestal. They were clearly trrying to make this food look like Japanese food, but does any of it look appetizing? Those hot dog octopi look about as faithfully adapted as Yugioh was. Anyway, some random guy comes out with a $1 sticker from either the stationary or hardware department, depending what Walmart they went to for supplies for their last garage sale, and the fight commences!
Right off the bat, I’d just like to say how confused I am over what the hell they thought they were making with this. Based on the attitudes of the actors, it clearly had the relaxed, low standards, ‘criticism is inherently negative’ approach that their writing’s been under for some time, but they clearly wanted to shoot and edit it with some sense of quality. The action is terrible, and while the editor used constant cuts to make the central fight between Justin and Joel look barely watchable, the action going on behind them looks so fake that it makes WWE look like UFC. The kind of fighting happening in the background keeps changing from shot to shot, and I swear to God there’s a part in it where two of the female actors are just standing around laughing at the main fighters. Call me crazy, I don’t think that was planned.
They clearly had ideas for this fight, but whether it was budget restrictions or safety concerns, some factor led to it constantly looking like they were never able to reproduce those ideas, and just said “Fuck it,” trying to get as close as possible to their vision. This is perhaps the most clear when the chopsticks come out as a weapon. The way they’re used is just kinda dumb and confusing looking, like they wanted to add special anime-style effects to the footage, but wasn’t able to, or they just didn’t bother.
There are bloopers, too, which is how they were able to stretch this concept to 3 minutes, but honestly, the whole video just feels like a blooper. All I’m saying is, if something’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right... So this thing clearly wasn’t worth doing.
2: The Adventures of the ASOS Brigade! From the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise.
I won’t say there’s no cringe factor in this item, but at least it’s easier to watch than the Bento Brawl. In 2007, which was over 15 long years ago... Trust me, you’ll feel the years with every Myspace reference they make... A live action spin-off of the Haruhi concept was released to promote DVD sales in the US. I don’t know anything about that, as I didn’t see any of this until I started watching the DVDs, so I can’t say whether or not they were a hit, or if they helped DVD sales, but I can talk about whether these sequences were garbage or not. I... Well, maybe I can’t, because even at it’s worst, I can still find something to laugh at in this thing, and I genuinely can’t tell whether or not the unintentional comedy was intentional or not.
For starters, let’s talk about the cast. The eponymous Haruhi is played by Patricia Ja Lee, former pink Space ranger(As she’s quick to tell us) and occasional voice actor. Maybe it’s just me, but she doesn’t come off as a very strong actor. I got kind of a subtle vibe that she didn’t want to be there, she felt really awkward on camera, and there were a lot of moments where it sounded like she was trying to remember her lines one word at a time, and playing around with pitch and enunciation to cover it up. I don’t want to be too mean, but there were elements of William Shatner in her performance. Her costar, the rosy cheeked Haruka Inoue, felt a lot more comfortable and natural in front of the camera, even if she didn’t have as many lines, although having them both speak their native languages while ignoring the barrier did feel quite jarring.
Yuki Nagato was played by two actors, the first of which wore the weirdest looking purple bob wig to try and utterly fail to mimmick Yuki’s hair from the show(Hint: It’s disturbingly similar to Kyon’s, color aside), and this must have upset a lot of fans, because she was replaced by someone else in the third episode. That, or she quit over the fact that she had to do a send-up to the even THEN outdated “ORLY? YA RLY!” Meme. WAI. The first girl played the role exactly as a robot would, and the second one slightly improved upon this by just sounding bored. Honestly, Patricia Lee’s ability to sound both wooden and hammy in the same sentence doesn’t sound so bad now.
They stuck to original scripts at first... They did some classroom/clubroom stuff, which benefited hugely from the precedent the series set about Haruhi being a terrible director, so all the production issues... At least some of which were likely on purpose... Didn’t feel so bad. They announced their intentions, who they were, and then they took theirm essage to the world! They visited the Bandai HQ building, usurped someone’s office(His reaction was comically awful, like he was about to do the underpaid office equivalent of hulking out), and then Haruhi stumbled through a passive aggressive speech about anime pirates paying for the DVDs to support the show. The message must not have gotten through, because Geneon USA would famously file for bankruptcy and go under later that same year. following this, they’d visit the Bang Zoom offices for a reveal of the cast(which anyone watching on DVD would already know about), and a studio tour. What’s noteworthy about this? Eric Sherman’s an even worse actor than Patty.
Then we get a much more interesting scenario, as the girls visit a mysterious warehouse called “Area 42...” Even the most hardcore Douglass Adams fans will be rolling their eyes at that one... and they investigate it looking for Aliens! They explore for a while, actually taking some time to have fun with the concept, like having an alien machine that changes your clothes. Haruka winds up wearing a sexy bunnygirl outfit, as if she wasn’t already the bright spot in the show. I also love how she has to pretend to be as shy as Mikuru when she is so clearly not. Anyway, they meet a costumed monster, and after battling it, they realize they’re on a movie set... No, they’re on a green screen... No, it was all a dream! This was all meant to sell the volume 1 Limited Edition series box, by the way. I have it, and it was totally worth buying.
One of my favorite moments in this series is when they visit the Bang Zoom recording studio to walk in on Crispin Freeman recording for Kyon, and they have some fun in the booth, and you know what? If Crispin Freeman wasn’t improvising his lines, then he was taking the lines they gave him and actuallym aking them sound natural. It HAS to be one of the two, because everything he said sounded genuine, but Sherman still sounded like he was reading off of cue cards. I don’t think they out the line Patty read into the show, but she did get a line in one of the later episodes, and it sounds like a precursor to her performance as Patricia Martin. Yeah, it’s that bad. The visit with Crispin turns into an interview, which was their attempt at evolving the show into english cast interviews, which I’m not going to talk about too much, but Crispin’s interview is hilarious, and seeing two former power rangers unite in Johnny Yong Bosch’s interview is also kinda cool.
Finally, after a bunch of interviews with the shows original apanese seiyuu, Haruhi takes Mikuru to a Japanese maid cafe to learn more about her own job, as well as to interview the maid there, and along with the Crispin Freeman one, I actually reccomend you check this one out. It’s really informative about how maid cafes work, they show you the fact that each maid wqorking there getsrepresented by a cute chibi plaque that was drawn by a famous manga artist, and it’s a pretty pleasant little visit. This is capped off with one final video where the girls dance the Hare Hare Yukai, and just like every single attempt at it that I’ve ever seen, it looks way too restrained and poorly rehearsed. Paricia looks likeshe’s doing her own thing for most of it, but atl east her footwork is fun to watch.
Oh, wait, did I say finally? Because there’s a second season of this. There’s not much to it, as only four episodes were placed on the Season 2 DVDs, and even then, one of the episodes was just repeated with slight alterations(Yeah, yeah, funny. Remind us of endless 8). The characters have been recast, with Christina Vee taking the role of Haruhi. Not only is she a much more prolific voice actor than her predescessor, but she’s a much better actor on camera as well. It’s a shame to not see Haruka Inoue, as Mikuru and Yuki are played by English speaking actors, which is a pretty jarring change, if I’m being honest.
Outside of the first episode, where we get to see the three of them being scouted by the Haruhi producer fortheir respective roles(He has the stage presence of a fucking log, by the way), we get to see them visit the Bang Zoom studio again, where they had a pretty clever idea of using Christina Vee’s desire to audition for a part as a lead-in to the announcement oif the orignal cast returning, and then she interviews Eric Sherman, and... That’s about it. We’re told about Asosbrigade.com as the place to go for more of their antics, but that turns out to be a dead website, and a search on the Wayback Machine doesn’t really bring up anything noteworthy or impressive. You can scour it yourself if you like, let me knoe if anything worth mentioning pops up. I was able to find a youtube video of the new cast dancing the Hare Yukai, and it’s slightly better than the original, but not by much. It’s a hard dance to get right, I know.
And that, as far as I’m aware, is it. Despite the step up from Patricia Ja Lee to Christina Vee, I actually like the first season better, just for purely so-bad-it‘s-good novelty. There was also clearly a lot more effort and imagination behind it, while the second season just felt kind of like an obligation.
Onto the final item!
An Entire Behind the Scenes Story Arc, from Super Milk Chan!
Throughout our exploration of live action anime sketches, we’ve seen something bad, we’ve seen something good-bad, so now, how about we take a look at something genuinely good?
I guess I can’t blame you if Super Milk Chan’s not your cup of tea. It was a really weird, unique anime that didn’t really fit into any estalished mold, it was abrasive and was populated by unlikeable characters, and that’s BEFORE it got dubbed by Steven Foster, a historically bad writer and ADR director. But to a voice chaser, the live action segments that were woven inbetween the animations are worth their weight in gold.
Yes, for this anime, the ADV studios team filmed a series of vignettes and short interconnected stories set in their offices, and featuring several big names from their voice acting talent pool. This includes the actual actors from the show, like Hilary Haag, Shelley Calene-Black, newcomer Taylor Hannah, the legendary Marcy Bannor, and the company’s three comedian talents, Rob Mungle, Tommy Drake and Mike MacCrae. It also featured appearances from other fan favorites like Monica Rial, Luci Christian and Christine Auten, who, like Hilary Haag, were all playing parts that fell in line with their real-life duties behind the scenes.
The first disk plays out like a normal day at the office, obviously exaggerated, with many interactions between characters that were meant to flesh out both their actual and fictionalized personalities, as well as offering an introcudtion to who they are for people who normally never look such things up. The second disk has an actual plot, with a power outage randomly happening while the new security system is testing it’s emergency feature, sending the offices into lock-down, and the actors being stuck in confined spaces together. The third disk features one single set that the actors have to keep walking in front of, having their interactions in front of it, with the gimmick being that one of the engineers lost the sound effect footage, and they all have to personally recreate the sound effects for the series with their own voices.
Some of these sound effects include Hilary Haag voicing eggs being whisked and fried, Rob Mungle doing a door being opened and closed, Taylor Hannah doing a gas stove, and pretty much the entire cast doing cat impressions. The best part about it is that when the sound effects happen in the animation portion, their faces actually appear in the corner of the screen as they perform the effect. They aren’t all great... Ben Pronsky’s helicopter blades effect noticably didn’t hold out all the way through the helicopter’s appearance... But for the most part, I was surprised at just how much these talented people could do with their voices. Monkey and bird calls, sure, but a car crash? I know this all happened in 2003, when the minimum wage was a lot lower than it is now(Believe me, I would know), but still, these people were not getting paid enough. Luci Christian has to put on an act of freaking out from claustrophobia at one point, and it’s pretty sick how convincing she is.
Some of my favorite interactions from these sketches include David Matranga being stalked by three fans on a studio tour(played by Greg Ayres, Chris Patton and Mandy Clark), Hilary Haag’s grandmother being offended at the language she’s using in the booth, Christine Auten just generally being a troublemaker(at one point sherandomly opens a door where you can hear Princess Tutu being recorded, which I thought was awesome), Tommy Drake wearing a dress and blonde wig for nearly the entire shoot(At his suggestion, according to the commentary), Hilary Haag hating on Taylor Hannah to the point that she had to hire a bodyguard, Taylor exploiting this for monetary gain to get back at her, Mike MacCrae accidentily flirting with a fifteen year old model, Marcy coming in hungover, Christine Auten hooking up with the security engineer, and so on, and so forth.
Also, don’t ask what’s hidden in Christine Auten’s desk.
Sentai Filmworks, or ADV Films as it was known back then, has always had a menchant for hiring actors who have experience in live theater, coming from stage backgrounds, and it really shows here. The camerawork isn’t always great, it can get pretty shakey at times, but all of the actors do fine jobs, looking perfectly confortable and natural on film. These vignettes are a great way to familiarize yourself with a bunch of amaqzing actors, even though quite a few of them aren’t active in the industry anymore. Seriously, Taylor Hannah’s been gone for so long that she doesn’t even have a wikipedia page anymore. In spite of this, I really hope you find a way to check this series and it’s live action content out, even if you have to go a little out of your way to find it.
Oh, and speaking of which, i’ll bet you’d like to know what happens in the fourth disk, dont you? Well, join the club, I couldn’t find a copy that didn’t require me to buy the entire set for more than 100 dollars. It’s hinted at the end of the third disk that trhey’re going to be visiting a convention overseas, and that does sound interesting, so hopefully I’ll find a way to watch it someday. For now, i’m glad you stuck around with me for this unorthodox post, I had a lot of fun writing it, and I’ve already started prepping for the next one.

Yep, I will be continuing this as a personal project as I continue to help write Of Giants and Journalists with u/Acceptable_Egg5560. It won't be as structured in its upload schedule, as this is in essence a passion project, but expect a few more chapters in the coming weeks. Also, keep an eye out for strangely formatted text in both the previous chapter and this one, it might be pertinent to something. Eventually.

…am I dead? Is this…ach, nope, nope. My head wouldn’t be feeling like it’s trying to escape if I was.
I slowly open my eyes, only to be met with the business end of a medical scanner. Standard fare for a standard operation. Or, at least, it was a standard operation up until I touched that…that…what the fuck even was that thing?? Why did it…do whatever it did to me? Groaning, I try to sit up, only to have my arms give out from under me as I pathetically flop back onto the examination table. I hear something rustling beside me before a familiar voice rings out. “Hey, Lyn! I think he’s up!”
As soon as Heller says that, the examination equipment lifts up from over me, allowing more room for me to try and sit up again. Thankfully, my arms aren’t quite as jelly as they were before, meaning that I’m able to slowly sit up without much issue. At my bedside stand the two that had accompanied me down the lift some…uh… Damn, how long was I out for? As my movements wavered in my thought, Heller extended an arm towards me. “Easy now. Come on, come on…okay. Take it slow. You were out cold when we found you. Before you ask, you look fine. Physically. Mentally, the jury’s still out.”
I groan at his attempt at placating the situation, rubbing my head to try and alleviate the pressure. “Does wanting to tape your mouth shut through any means necessary count as delusion?”
“More so naivety,” Lyn states as she stands from a seat she had taken at a nearby terminal. She picks up the strange object, which she had supposedly just leaned up against the wall. She didn’t seem to be undergoing any psychedelic visions like I had, though, so maybe that was just a mee thing. Figures.
Heller, for his part, takes the joke in stride, chuckling a little to himself before responding. “Alright, so humor’s intact, that’s good. You know who you are? New recruit for Argos Extractors? Ring any bells? Any of this look familiar?”
He hands me a data slate with my personal information. I scan over it to check and make sure everything looks alright. Calen Durana, yep. 48, that’s correct, unfortunately. Former UC infantry, checks out. I look up, handing the device back to Heller. “Yep, that’s me alright. You want me to spell my name or something?”
“That won’t be necessary,” Lyn butts in, adjusting the metallic object under her arm. Now that it’s clear from the rock, I can get a better look at it. It’s curved, with multiple seemingly random bits and bobs jutting out from its surface. Whatever this thing is, it looks like it was created by intelligent hands. “What matters is that you found what we were looking for.”
“So all that talk about the mineral deposits was just a load of crud, huh?” I inquire, looking at our quilled forewoman inquisitively.
“More or less, but the deposits are a nice bonus,” Lyn confirms. “As it stands, though, the client is paying more than ten times what all that ore is worth for this thing right here. He’s on his way right now, actually. Once he takes it off our hands, we all get paid and this can be forgotten.”
By the way she spoke about the client, I could tell that there was a degree of familiarity between her and whoever it was that wants that…thing. Thinking of… “Lyn, are you…uh, feeling alright?”
The Gojid looks at me with a confused look. “I’m fine, Dusty. Did you expect me to fall over like you did?”
“Kinda,” I admit, the memories of what exactly I witnessed when I touched the object becoming clearer as my head slowly ceases its throbbing attempts to burst open. “It was…ugh.”
“Do you remember anything that happened?” She asks me, her confusion being underlaid with a curious tone.
I rack my brain to try and remember what happened in detail. “There was this…light. And music…it’s hard to explain.”
“You sure you didn’t just take Aurora before your shift today?” Heller suggests. The glares from both me and Lyn are enough to get him to raise his hands in defeat. “Hey, I’m just throwing out ideas here!”
“Well, whatever’s the case, you were completely out when we found you,” Lyn clarifies, once more adjusting the unwieldy metal object under her arm. “Had to haul you all the way back up here ourselves.”
“How long was I out for?” I ask.
“Not long, maybe an hour or two,” Lyn says. “Your scans showed nothing out of the ordinary, no injuries, no strokes, nothing. Those lights and sounds? Probably just your brain playing tricks, but we got what we were looking for either way.”
“So all this trouble was for that stupid thing?” Heller questions as he points to the object. “Sure don’t look like much.”
“Nevermind what it looks like,” Lyn scolds the senior extractor, “this is worth more than this mine has pulled in all this month. We’ll be-”
Before she can finish, a chime sounds out from the terminal she had been sitting at when I awoke. When I turned my head to see what it was, I could just make out a proximity alert for an incoming vessel. Lyn’s eyes, or rather the eye I could see, sparkled with recognition as she stepped back from us. “Speak of the devil. If you can get up, Dusty, I’d recommend doing so.”
Taking her advice, I carefully push myself to my feet. The weakness and pain I had felt a few minutes ago is now mostly subsided, so I have no issues following Lyn and Heller through the facility. I don’t have to go too far, though, as the pair of them are already in another conversation regarding the vessel onscreen. “Our Constellation contact is on approach,” she says as she points a claw towards the vessel’s clearance code.
The allegiance of the vessel immediately sticks out to me as a pang of recognition strikes. “Wait, Constellation? The old explorer’s guild?”
“Yep, that one,” Lyn curtly responds before pressing a door access panel so we can proceed.
“Huh, I thought they were kind of a joke,” Heller dismisses as the door shutters open in front of us.
“Not a joke,” Lyn corrects as she takes the lead through the newly opened passageway, “you’re just too young to know better.” I had never really considered Heller’s age before now, but from what I could see, he didn’t look to be a day over 25. Far too young to be in a line of work like this, if you ask me.
“Hey, I’m just saying they got a reputation!” Heller protests as he follows behind her. “Hell, I bet half the crew here don’t believe they even exist!”
“Half the crew doesn’t believe the Ruined Worlds exist, either, but they’re still there. Constellation is the same,” Lyn points out as we push our way through some plastic draperies out into the mess hall. Many people of all different species are ‘hard at work’ milling about or eating something. A small corner of my brain tries to convince me to take a half-eaten sandwich from a Harchen’s plate, but the rest of my psyche is easily able to overpower it. No need to steal here.
“Yeah, but come on,” Heller further argues as we make our way towards the airlock, “exploring space? Who even does that anymore? Ain’t the space we got complicated enough already?”
I fail to suppress a snicker at his ability to completely miss the point, as it isn’t like he has any inkling just how complicated the Occupied Territories can get. “You have no idea, Heller. No idea.”
“Alright, enough chatter,” Lyn says as she’s halfway through putting her suit on. “Airlock, get suited up.” I wordlessly comply with her command, as does Heller. Before long, all of our suits are ready to go. We both nod to Lyn, who initiates the cycling process. After a few seconds, the door to the outside is open, and oh boy, what a view…is what I would say if there was one. Instead, we’re met with the drab colors of the external logistics area of the facility backlit by the orangish, completely unbreathable atmosphere of Vectera. The only thing of note is the rings of Anselon arcing across the sky high above us. From that same direction, I can just manage to spot a speck moving across the sky. Before I have time to reinforce any doubts as to what it might be, it enlarges and fires its landing thrusters, confirming it to be Lyn’s Constellation contact. I had no clue that she was affiliated with anyone from Constellation before today, but in all fairness, I never asked.
The feeling of awe I had felt watching the ship descend was quickly replaced with dread as I saw just what exactly was landing. Either they had a time machine, or they were flying an absolute shitbox of a ship. For what it’s worth, I hope it’s the former.
“Really? A Discovery Class?” Heller remarks with the same disappointed confusion I could feel welling up inside me. “That thing has to be older than this moon!”
“It’s not old, it’s classic,” Lyn retorts as the ship finalizes its landing position and rests on its landing legs. I can’t help but think that sentiment might be something of a coping mechanism. Not like I’m exempt from such things, though. “Now come on, let’s do this.”
I fall in behind her as the three of us walk to the edge of the landing platform to await our benefactor. Before long, the ramp stationed on the belly of the aging spacecraft hisses open, revealing two figures within the unpressurized loading bay. One holds the distinctive silhouette of a Model A android, but the other is still shrouded in smoke and dust from the landing sequence. Out of the corner of my eye, I can see Lyn’s lips tighten into a snarl as she once more readjusts the object under her suited arm. Maybe there’s a reason why she never told me about this contact.
As the two figures approach us, I can say with certainty that the other is most certainly another human. His skin is dark and a fuzzy-looking beard all but covers the lower half of his face. With the way he holds himself, I can tell that he and Heller would get along just fine, which is probably the only person he might have good relations with if Lyn’s reaction to his arrival is any indication. I still haven’t made up my mind.
“Barrett,” my Gojid supervisor spits out at the newcomer, presumably being his name.
“Lyn!” Barrett greets her with a much more jovial tone, holding his arms open as if he were expecting a hug. Lyn does no such thing, her spines visibly brisling beneath her suit.
“Been a while,” Lyn states shortly.
“Hah! Yes it has,” Barrett confirms as his Model A stomps up behind him. I’ve never seen a Model A look so…adorned before. A thought crosses my mind that this Barrett person might be someone who thinks that the robots are alive, but a quick once-over of its chassis reveals significant wear, even on top of the paint job. At least he’s putting the damn thing to use.
“That mine on…Bindi, right?” Barrett states, but his tone is more so that of a question.
Lyn huffs with annoyance before speaking again. “Ka’zaal. Hell hole, like this place. Rare mineral contract. I take it your tastes are a bit more sophisticated now, hm?” So Lyn knew this guy before he was Constellation. That makes much more sense in all but one aspect. Constellation is still hiring?
Barrett tries to laugh it off, but it’s clear he isn’t quite as proficient with improvising bullshit as Heller is, instead just trailing off before moving the conversation back on topic. “So you found something, I take it?”
“Not me,” the Gojid clarifies before stepping to the side. “New guy right here found it.”
For the first time, the man’s gaze set upon me with curiosity and a slight bit of concern. “I see. And everything’s been cool for you?”
“So far,” I reply with a shrug.
“Heh, just like grabbing minerals on Bindi,” Barrett says with a mischievous tone in his voice. If his goal was to push Lyn’s buttons, he certainly achieved that as a tired growl escaped her lips.
Ka’zaal. And no, Barrett, not cool. He passed out after the extraction and woke up saying all kinds of nonsense.” Lyn asserts, ignoring my plea of nonchalance.
“Is that right, cowboy?” Barrett asks, suddenly looking at me. “Went on a trip, huh?”
I don’t like the knowing tone that he uses, so I double down on the downplaying. “I’m fine, nothing to talk about really.”
He looks me up and down, as if he knows that’s a load of shit. “Uh huh, alright then. You don’t have to talk about it until you’re ready to, I won’t push.”
I squint my eyes at him as a hypothesis forms in my head. Did he go through the same thing I did? I’m not given a chance to compound upon this as Lyn holds the object out towards Barrett, an exasperated look on her face that I’ve only seen her make towards Heller. “Look, just hand over the credits and I’ll be happy to never see this thing, or you, ever again.”
“That’s why I like you Lyn,” Barrett says, taking the item into his possession, “all busin-” Before he can finish, alarms start blaring all around the complex. When I look back, I can see many other extractors looking around in confusion as to what’s happening. Given Lyn’s distaste for Barrett, I can only infer that whatever’s going on, it traces back to him somehow.
“Barrett, the scanners on the Frontier are reporting a ship coming in hot from orbit,” the Model A states. The voice modulator sounds different to other versions I’ve seen on the market, which lends credence to the theory that Barrett sees the machine for more than what it is.
“Huh, I really thought I lost them,” Barrett mumbles just as I turn back to him.
“Lost who?” I pointedly question, but the answer is already apparent. Another ship screams down from orbit, the dark red color adorning its tattered hull marking it as belonging to only one faction: the Crimson Fleet.
“Barrett!” Lyn shouts angrily, but she’s too busy running back towards the access ramp, waving her arms to get the panicked crew’s attention. “Weapons! Everybody get ready!
“Holy shit, it’s the Crimson Fleet!” I hear Heller shout beside me, but I already know what to do. I spot an unattended Eon lying in a weapons case not far away. A bit underpowered, but it should do. Ignoring the fact I just thought I wouldn’t need to steal here, I take the gun, and the magazines next to it, without hesitation. I slide one of the mags in and chamber the ballistic weapon with practiced precision as I eye the hostile vessel with a mixture of trepidation and adrenaline-fueled anxiety. Been a while since I had to do this.
Hopefully the fight isn’t out of this old soldier yet.

2023.10.23 15:03 fortythreenine [OC] Week 2 Powerplay Roundup

Hi all, here with week 2's powerplay roundup. There's injuries, promotions, demotions, and shuffling abound, so I'll get into it all here with the idea of updating you on who is actually being used on their team's top powerplay.
Before we do, however, I made 5 recommendations to you last week about who to add before the start of the season. This week, uh, did not go well for me. A couple of them weren't my fault, but my job is to find you powerplay points off the waiver wire, and no-one on this list got you one. Not great, Bob! Last week grades: 2-1-2, this week grades: 0-4-1.
  1. G. Vilardi, own 15%->12%: welp he got hurt immediately. I would still stash if you have the space and an IR spot. Push.
  2. M. Coronato, own 6%->6%: Coronato got bumped off PP1 for Ruzicka, and hasn't really done much. Last game it looks like he's back on PP1 though, so he might be rotating in and out. This one is a straightup Loss.
  3. B. Hayton, own 14%->10%: Hayton's got the opportunity so far, is shooting 0% on the season with 0 assists, but has 1.2 powerplay shots on goal per game (very good). He's playing 67% of Arizona's powerplay time, so although this is a Loss for me, I wouldn't shy away from adding him.
  4. L. Reichel, own 13%->8%: Hall came back and bumped Reichel down to about 30% of Chicago's powerplay time. This is a Loss, but if Reichel ever got back on PP1 I still think he could produce.
  5. C. York, own 5%->4%: Not great, and he might have lost his job to Sanheim (47% of PP time over the last 3 games). Loss.

🩹 Injuries: there are a LOT of injuries this week: I count 15 injuries to players impacting PP1 units around the league.
🩹 A. Killorn -> R. Strome
🩹 R. Andersson (suspension) -> N. Hanifin
🩹 C. McDavid -> E. Kane
🩹 V. Arvidsson -> P. Dubois
🩹 L. Couture -> A. Duclair
🩹 M. Granlund -> A. Barabanov -> K. Labanc
🩹 A. Buravkosky -> E. Tolvanen
🩹 A. Pietrangelo -> S. Theodore
🩹 T. Hall -> A. Athanasiou
🩹 M. Boldy -> M. Johansson
🩹 G. Vilardi -> N. Ehlers
🩹 A. Barkov -> C. Verhaeghe
🩹 B. Montour -> O. Ekman-Larsson
🩹 A. Svechnikov -> M. Bunting
🩹 P. Laine -> K. Johnson
Team Analysis/Update:
  • The following 15 teams don't have notable changes to their powerplay 1 units: Los Angeles, Seattle, Vancouver, Vegas, Arizona, Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota, Winnipeg, Boston, Buffalo, Montreal, Toronto, NY Islanders, NY Rangers
  • Anaheim is doing something weird with Leo Carlsson. If they're gonna sit him a bunch of games at random, he's not rosterable in fantasy except for the deepest of leagues or dynasty leagues. In other news, they've given Mintyukov a shot at PP1 over Fowler.
  • Calgary can't decide if they want Coronato, Mangiapane, or Ruzicka on PP1. They have not been good though, so it's difficult to say anyone is a true PP1 lock right now. Also, Andersson will probably serve a suspension at some point, and I imagine Hanifin will get PP1 in his stead. update: it's Coronato v Mangiapane right now. This is changing on a game-to-game basis.
  • Edmonton will have to do something in McDavid's absence, so I'm imagining it'll be Kane up there to start.
  • San Jose is in full silly season territory. The 5 forward unit didn't last, like I suggested it wouldn't, but last game they gave the majority of PP time to checks notes, ahem, Canucks legend Kyle Burroughs. Yes, seriously, not Thrun, not Mukhmadullin, not even Knyzhov. I would stay away from anyone not named Hertl unless it's a pure streamer. *update: Barbanov got hurt, and I think Labanc will replace him. Normally this wouldn't matter that much, but San Jose plays three more times this week so in deep leagues streaming Labanc isn't the worst possible move.
  • Chicago has had Donato on PP1 so far this season, but they're practicing without him right now. Also, if Hall can't go, looks like AA will take PP1. update: Hall didn't go, AA took his spot.
  • Nashville has gone back and forth with Barrie on PP1, but he's been pretty successful offensively so he might stick in the long run. Evangelista, Glass, and Novak are cycling in and out for now. update: Glass will be out for probably this whole week, so Evangelista vs. Novak is the question.
  • St. Louis at first had Kapanen fill in for Buchnevich, but now it's Saad in practice. update: Buch is back.
  • Detroit sat DeBrincat for a practice with an illness; if he can't go it looks like it'll be Compher taking his spot
  • Florida replaced an injured Barkov with Verhaeghe last game.
  • Montreal rewarded a red-hot Pearson with PP1 time.
  • Ottawa put Sandy on PP1 and immediately enjoyed the benefits.
  • Tampa Bay welcomed Stamkos back in the lineup and moved Sergy down to PP2.
  • Carolina returned Aho to PP1 immediately, and in their most recent practice have Turbo over Necas. Also, Svech is practicing and is bumping Bunting down, which leads me to believe their PP1 unit right now is Aho/Jarvis/Svech/Turbo/Tony
  • Columbus returned Werenski to PP1 immediately, and Laine went out after that dangerous hit from Andersson. I think they'll probably revert to their normal PP1 instead of the weird split units they were doing.
  • New Jersey has stuck to their weird powerplay. They moved Hischier up and then he got hurt, and Palat replaced him. Until something changes, however, this is the Luke Hughes show, not the Dougie show. update: Hischier is practicing. update 2: Hischier back, Palat moved down.
  • Philadelphia has actually been consistent with CouturieKonecny/Atkinson as a trio. They've flirted with Sanheim taking over for Cam York, who's essentially just Eastern Conference Calen Addison, and Bobby Brink on PP1. They've also been consistent that Tippett has never been on PP1 at any point in the pre-season or regular season.
  • Pittsburgh is practicing with Rust on PP1 over Rakell. update: Rust played on PP1 over Rakell.
  • Washington is practicing Strome over Backstrom. Caps beat reporter points out they actually did this move on their last powerplay as well. Washington hasn't scored on the powerplay this year, so I think only Ovi and Carlson are safe right now.
Week 3 Adds:
  • O. Palat, LW NJD (5% owned): If Hischier is out for a few games, I want whoever's next to Hughes on PP1. Right now, that's Palat. End of story. He also plays 3 off-nights this week.
  • M. Johansson, LW MIN (4% owned): Not super sexy, but Boldy should be out this week, and Johansson's going to get run on PP1. He plays 2 off-nights.
  • P. Mintyukov, D ANA (5% owned): He's getting a shot on PP1, and most PP1 defensemen are worth rostering somewhere. Not an amazing schedule this week, but this guy was a 10th overall pick last season.
  • R. Johansen, C COL (13% owned): Again, not super sexy, but I'm down for any player on Colorado's PP1. He plays one off-night this week.
  • J. Anderson, RW MTL (12% owned): He hits, and he plays 4 times this week. If he's not already owned in your league, stream him on Monday because only 2 teams play tonight and he's on Montreal's PP1.

Rank S

Pimpin' Ain't Parise - Woppa
A repeat of last year's superteam seemed highly unlikely but to no one's surprise, The King did it yet again. Core of Tkachuk Huberdeau Lindholm Carlson is as good as it gets. 2nd unit consists of Bergeron Trocheck Wheeler and Bunting. Barzal contract year. Laf and Stephenson breakout years. Freddy and Bob true #1s on elite teams. Take a snapshot nephews, THIS is peak fantasy hockey.

Rank B

License to Kirill - concini
Probably the 2nd most dangerous offense in the division, concini went for the heavy hitters with Kaprizov Svech Laine core supported by Tage Buch Cat. The only downside is Buchnevich and DeBrincat are almost guaranteed a drop, same goes for Tage's 38 goals. But seeing the talent level rest of the division, it's not a bad risk to take. Kuemper and Husso 7th and 11th, however, may be the mistake from being the defacto 2nd best team.
Gritty Gritty Bang Bang - MorphineSmile
While concini has the 2nd best offense, Morphine's got the 2nd best overall rounded team. If you go down the roster there aren't many weaknesses: Drai, Crosby, TT, Giroux, Mangiapane, Kuznetsov, Hartman, Rielly, QHughes, Shesterkin, Oettinger. It's like The King's team, just downgraded at each position by a lot, meaning it's still one of the best.

Rank B-

Fox in Socks - Kattsumoto
Point Suzuki Brady Forsberg Timo Stone. That is PF waiting to explode on someone's face. But the thing is Point/Stone will get injured somewhere down the line. Timo/Forsberg drafted as if their career year numbers last year are the norm. What if Suzuki is the 1st half last year Suzuki? And when that all happens at the same time the only one getting messy is you.

Rank C

Koekkoek Katchouk, Mrs. Robinson - leapinliz
The most passive aggressive manager in OTH history, Elizabeth is like that fly that won't ever go away no matter how many times you whack at it. Guentzel Letang Tarasenko are glass and highly sus picks at 2-3-4 like every single year she drafts but you KNOW when you play her they'll all be back on a 5 game week hat tricks and shit then she'll be like "Oh it was just a lucky win I didn't think I had a chance teehee".

Rank C-

First Rounder Leafs - hholysheet
When you can draft a 7.2PF monster named Auston Matthews it's almost guaranteed success if you don't do something stupid like drafting Kreider or EKane on the turn. Luckily both were taken so hholysheet couldn't nephew himself and got decent guys like Aho and Panarin. However, like many, starting Round 4 on is where the trouble begins with turdtascular picks like 4th round Fiala and 6th round Dobson.

Rank D+

Cow Tipping Mafia - ImminentFate
If there's one single player who exemplifies the spirit of this team, it's Roope Hintz. Drafted in the 4th because Fate like playing the lottery, the rest of his bingo cards are Caufield, Kempe, Bjorkstrand, Vrana, Weegar, Toews, Petry. Is there a chance all these guys will produce at their ADP? Sure. Will it happen? No.
Solar Bears - friendo
Usually a team's strength is determined by their winger core and Kucherov Connor and Nylander make a deadly trio. The problem is that's about it. The team is shallow AF with guys like Raymond Hyman Boldy who should be on the bench, but unfortunately that bench is occupied by the likes of Seguin Nino Yegor and Mercer. With a shallow roster like that, one would think Vasi and Shesterkin are the goalies. Nope. MAF and Logan Thompson.

Rank D

Kreider Hard - BluntForce19
I get the allure of drafting players in your unoriginal hockey puns, but you don't see The King drafting Zach Parise in round 2. A 10 year veteran who's career high 53 points prior to last season is not 2nd round material. Kinda like a 9 year vet career high 34 points prior to last shouldn't be taken 8th. But hey, enjoy rostering Nichushkin for the entire season. Thanks for the wins.

Rank D-

Pay Cheque - ndjolt02
You would think little turd nuggets making their debut in the upper division would do a little DD prior to the draft. I mean wtf am I looking at here. After Ovechin the next best wingers are Horvat and Konecny. The first 7/8 picks were either C/D. Your profile pic will be the exact expression seeing PLD put up 6PF on the bench while getting a combined fuck all from Konecny and Arvidsson on the daily.
Seider? I Hardly Know her - ronan00
Pasta and Marner are two of my favorite fantasy players, so it pains me to see them on a team where they have to carry the team on their shoulders and more. Landeskog and Malkin will combine for one full season if they're lucky, Seider in 3rd is a still a gamble and namesake pick, and then Larkin Bratt Trouba are the next best players. Truly a work of art fitting the clearance section at a flea market.
How Are Ya Now? Thomsco
Drafting next to The King is no easy task, and in Thomsco's first trip to the big leagues his inexperience pierced through like two pancake nipples of a 80yr old man with titties wearing a compression top on a cruise. Getting cockblocked in nearly every round such as Wheeler before Tuch and Lindholm before Robertson, little Tommy was so flustered and confused he was cockblocking himself with gems like Calen Addison (D-Min) taken one pick before Laf. Welcome to the show, enjoy your one-time trip up here.

Rank F

Connor and the Thugs - dzibanche
Wtf is this. Team drafted as many centers(6) and d(6) as all wingers(6) but that's just the tip of this gignormous turd mountain. Of those 6 wingers, 2 are Marchand and Wilson, 2 others are Burakovsky and Lehkonen, so the only two that can produce are PKane who is declining and EKane who is EKane. Then the cherry on top to complete this diarrhea poo sundae are Georgiev and Binnington, taken 7th and 8th. Team should be renamed to Connor and the Turds.
Dude, Where's Makar? - CTonyJab
This nooblet calls himself CTonyJab and CTonyUppercut when the real alias should be CTonyGetKnockedTheFuckOut. Picking Makar and Fox as your 1-2 punch is not ideal, but then Gaudreau and Hughes the next two as your top forwards? But oh no, Glass Joe wasn't finished. Pavelski Duchene Zegras Hall were next and at that point you might as well have drafted Jarry in the 3rd and save the props the chat gave you.

2022.01.10 01:39 zeskgames Predictions/Suggestions for the English Dub of the Arknights anime

As many Arknights players already know, an officially licensed, full-length, Arknights anime is in production. In fact, just today we got a promotional poster for Arknights: Prelude to Dawn which shows the major characters who will be appearing in the series. Personally, I am the type of person who enjoys media most when it's in a language I understand, which for me is English. This is a roundabout way of self-reporting that I'm what some anime fans would call a 'filthy dub watcher'. If it's any good (heck even if it's bad) Prelude to Dawn will probably get an English dub sometime after it's release in the sub and I thought it would be fun to guess/theorize what English voice actors would best fit the characters appear in this story.
Disclaimer 1: I am NOT a professional voice coach or voice director, I'm just some guy whose watched A LOT of anime in the English dub.
Disclamier 2: While I really want to be, I'm still not as versed in Arknights lore as I could be, so if there's stuff I've gotten wrong about characters here please feel free to correct me.
Disclaimer 3: I've only just finished chapter 6 of Arknights so I could be totally wrong about some of these characters so take everything I say with that in mind.
According to the poster, our protagonists will be; The Doctor, Amiya, Kal'tsit, Chen, Hoshiguma, Nearl, Dobermann, and Ace. The antagonists will be (surprise, surprise); Talulah, W, Crownslayer, Skullshatterer, Misha, Mephisto, Faust, Patriot, and Frostnova. So let's get predicting.
Protagonists:
  1. The Doctor: Like most Gacha Game protagonists, the Doctor isn't really a character. They mostly serve as a glorified camera for important events in the story AND as a way for the player to insert themselves into the world. This is great for getting the player invested in the story but at the cost of the Doctor not having an actual personality, because they're not supposed to. The Doctor is an empty vessel for the player to insert whatever personality you want into them. This is why in fan art, fanfiction, and comics The Doctor's personality varies wildly; A sanity-snorting gremlin, a cool and mysterious mentor figure, a hopelessly horny romantic trying to get into every operator's pants. All of these versions of the Doctor are technically the correct version if that's how the player chooses to play them. All of this makes it really hard to make a character for The Doctor, as everyone has a different idea of what they are like, but Hypergraph made a smart decision by giving the Doctor a gender-neutral voice. This way, the viewer, regardless of gender, can insert themselves into the story. Do you know what other character is from a gacha game anime and is gender neutral? Enkidu/Kingu from Fate: Babylonia. In the dub Enkidu/Kingu is played by Marin Miller, who does a great job voicing the character ( Gilgamesh's Memories Of Enkidu Part 1 (English Dub)(Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia) - YouTube ).
  2. Amiya: With the Doctor out of the way we can talk about the ACTUAL protagonist of Arknights, everyone's favorite Donkey girl, Amiya. Out of all the characters on this list Amiya is going to be one of the hardest to think of an appropriate voice for. Something you will probably start to notice is that if a character already has an established voice performance, I try to find the most suitable voice actor who can match that performance, but in English. Unfortunately, Tomoyo Kurosawa gives such a unique and iconic voice to the character that it's hard to think of an equivalent. But Imma try dangit! Those who work with Amiya know that she's wise beyond her years and is serious about both combat tactics and the politics of the infected. However this contrasts with her being a little donkey girl (some theorists believe that she's around 15) who's almost too cute to be taken seriously. With all this in mind I believe that Christine Marie Cabanos who has voiced Chiaki Nanami from Dangonrompa, Mako Mankanshoku from Kill La Kill, and one of her most recognizable performances, Madoka Kaname from Madoka Magica. Here's the best clip of her voice I could find BUT it has MASSIVE Madoka Magica spoilers so watch at your own peril. (Madoka Rebellion, Flowers Scene (Eng Dub) - YouTube )
  3. Ch'en: With Amiya out of the way we can talk about the ACTUAL ACTUAL protagonist of Arknights. (I'm kidding, or am I?) Jokes aside Ch'en is one of the most important and complex characters in Arknights lore. At first glance, Ch'en seems like a serious, battle-hardened, no-nonsense police woman, but unlike other battle-hardened characters like Hellagur and Schwarz, whose constant time on the battlefield has drained them of most of their positive emotions, Ch'en still has some of her humanity. She isn't above getting into petty squabbles with Swire or letting out her true feelings when she sees something that upsets her. She's both a serious warrior AND an emotional person. With all of that in mind I think that Eric Lindbeck comes to mind as the obvious choice. Her performance as Mordred in Fate Apocrypha is all the evidence I need to prove that she'd do great as Ch'en. ( Mordred rescuing the Servant of Black Fate/Apocrypha Episode 13 (English Dub) - YouTube)
  4. Kal'tsit: Dr. Kal'tsit, the cold and mysterious monologue machine of Rhodes Island. For someone who talks so much it's ironic that we know almost nothing about her. What we DO know for sure is that Kal'tsit is a cold, calculating, mastermind who is always 3 steps ahead. She also NEVER lets her emotions get the better of her, always approaching situations, no matter how dangerous or exciting, with the same disinterested, almost robotic attitude. Due to this, I think that Anastasia Munoz would be perfect for Kal'tsit. One of Munoz's strengths is her incredible voice acting range, being able to play extremely high energy and emotional characters like Koko from Jourmungand as well as emotionally muted characters like Harumi Kiyama from A Certain Scientific Railgun and Narberal from Overlord. For example, in this clip where Narberal is in the process of dunking on a soon to be deceased mage she still acts like she couldn't give less of a shit if she tired, which is a very Kal'tsit thing to do. (Overlord – Official Clip – Magic - YouTube)
  5. Hoshiguma: I'm so sorry Hoshiguma fans but I have to be honest, I know almost NOTHING about this character. I'm sure I could take a Hoshiguma crash course where I look through all of her voice lines and bio online but I still don't think I could think of an English voice for her. And don't worry it's not her fault, it's me. Out of the Lungmen PD trio and 6-stars in general Hoshiguma never really stood out to me, she was just another face in the roster. But if anyone with more Hoshiguma appreciation than me can give me a run-down of her lore and personality then I could probably think of someone.
  6. Nearl: Well, that was embarrassing, but at least I'm confident about this next one. Nearl is a fan favorite operator for a reason! Interesting background lore, great design, and an awesome first impression during the early chapters of the story. Both in design and personality Nearl is a modern-day knight complete with righteous and serious attitude along with a desire to uphold justice and fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. That serious knightly attitude also carries over to how she acts normally. The obvious choice for Nearl is Kari Wahlgren who many weebs know as Saber from the Fate Franchise (there are too many appearances to name in Fate alone). Also, I'm pretty confident that Siege, Blemishine, and Nearl's designs take some inspiration from Saber so that just further proves my point. ( saber's dub voice - YouTube )
  7. Dobermann: An eternal thorn in Kroos' side and every free-to-play Doctor's best friend. Due to many years on the battlefield Dobermann's will and heart have been hardened like stone, the Dobermann we know today is a strict teacher and ruthless opponent. While she does care for all of the recruits who enter her regiment and even has moments where her hardened exterior cracks, it's usually not for long. She believes in tough love, tougher training, and showing her enemies no mercy. Also, she is from Bolivar, the totally-not-Brazil region of Terra. With all of this in mind I cannot help but draw parallels to Caveria from Rainbow Six Siege. Both are Brazilian, ruthless to their enemies, and care about their allies but have a strange way of showing it. Caveria is voiced by Renata Eastlick, who does a great show of portraying Caveria's ruthlessness to enemies AND demanding treatment of allies. (Rainbow Six Siege Caveira voice lines - YouTube)
  8. Ace: They really did our boy dirty didn't they? Ace is a character that we don't know that much about due to being extremely dead by the end of the end of chapter 1. The little bits that we do know is that Ace is a career military man whose been working with The Doctor and Kal'tsit for a very long time. With all that in mind I think that William Fichtner's performance as Sandman in Modern Warfare 3 would fit perfectly for Ace. ( Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 3 - Sandman Voice Lines - YouTube) However there is a slight problem. William Fichtner is a high-profile actor who mostly does live action work, so it might be difficult to get him to sign on to an anime. With that in mind, there's another character from Modern Warfare 3 who could fit Ace's voice perfectly Bruce Greenwood, who plays Callsign: Overlord, and his military commander vibe would also be a good fit for Ace (Modern Warfare 3 Black Tuesday Intro - YouTube )
Antagonists:
  1. Talulah: The one and only, the big bad Arknights and the leader of the Reunion movement. Something that we constantly see throughout the story is that the leadership of Reunion don't like each other, they are constantly arguing behind closed doors, Mudrock and Big Bob straight up left, etc. But Talulah is the glue that holds the reunion movement together, serving as an evil but effective mentor figure to Crownslayer, Mephisto, Faust, and Skullshatterer. Long story short I get big 'evil stepmom' vibes from Talulah. And it just so happens that Shelley Calene-Black is quite good at playing morally ambiguous anime mommies. Karen Lo from Jormungand, Najenda from Akame Ga Kill, and in my opinion her most underrated performance, Mimi from Flip Flappers (Shout to the 9 other people who watched Flip Flappers in the dub). Here is the part where I would insert from examples from the aforementioned characters but I couldn't find any on YouTube :(
  2. W: Everyone's favorite mischievous mercenary. Due to her cool design, screen presence in the story, cool event, and absolute banger of a theme song, other than Talulah and Frostnova, W is easily one of if not the most recognizable Arknights antagonists. W is a person who is very good at masking her true intentions. She hides in plain sight under a sexy and carefree facade, but underneath that sexy smile is ruthless killer with a body count in the hundreds. That mix of sexiness, mischievousness, and ruthlessness is perfectly executed in by Amber Lee Connors in her performance as Akagi in Azur Lane The Animation. AL: The Animation is not a good anime, BUT the only reason I stuck through it the amazing performances by the English voice cast with Connors being one of the highlights. (Azur Lane All Akagi Moments English Dub - YouTube)
  3. Crownslayer: To some she's a dangerous terrorist, to others a hero for the infected, but to all Arknights players she is the number 1 target of advanced cyberbullying. From what see of Crownslayer she strikes me as someone who is (justifiably) angry at the world for how it's treated her, but also lacks perspective on how to actually change anything, so she reduces herself to a weapon for Reunion. She is also appears to be young, maybe not as young as Amiya but around that age range. I think that for Crownslayer Sarah Williams would be perfect as she often plays young passionate characters who often have no idea what they are actually doing. Examples include Sayaka Miki from Madoka Magica, Uni from Hyperdimension Neptunia, and Nonon Jakuzure. (Satsuki and Nonon's childhood/past (Kill La Kill English Dub) - YouTube)
  4. Skullshatterer: Of all the characters in Arknights, Skullshatterer is a living embodiment of the vast majority of Reunion's forces. A boy who is angry at the world's governments and uninfected for systematically running his life in the name 'public safety'. He doesn't know if his efforts will actually improve anything but he doesn't care, he just wants revenge. Two things that are important to have with Skullshatterer is his anger towards the uninfected AND his gas mask. With all of that in mind I believe that Yuri Lowenthal would be the perfect choice for our grenade launching boy. Yuri has played Spider-Man, Sauske Uchiha, and for the purposes of this post, Jino from Afro Samurai. Putting on a very Jino-like performance for Skullshatterer would go perfectly with what we know about the character. (Afro Samurai: Afro vs Jinno - YouTube)
  5. Misha: Take everything I've said about Skullshatterer, change the gender to female and BOOM you have Misha. Joking aside, one of the most important parts of Misha as a character is her innocence. She's a girl whose been wrapped up in an international guerrilla war for the sin of being born into the wrong family. And after what happens to Skullshatterer she reaches her breaking point, just wanting to burn it all down. What that in mind Mikaela Krantz would be perfect for the innocent and angry Misha, she's played the child version of like 3 different protagonists and had a big role as Ai Ohto in Wonder Egg Priority. (See-no Evil’s See-no Ai (Wonder egg priority Dub) - YouTube)
  6. Mephisto: 'My pro-genocide sociopath can't be this cute!'. Mephisto is a character who needs very little introduction as just the mention of him can cause Arknights players to get into heated debates about whether or not he deserves redemption. Like many of Reunion's members Mephisto is someone who lived his entire life as a punching bag, even before he was infected, and one day he just snapped, transforming into the sociopathic monster we know today. He's unhinged and enjoys physically and mentally tormenting his enemies with child-like glee. Another character who does all of the things I just mentioned is Juzo Suzuya played by Maxey Whitehead. Her ability to mix both child-like innocence and murderous madness would make her perfect for Mephisto. (Juzo x Haise ~ I Want Candy - YouTube)
  7. Faust: The quiet and reserved ying to Mephisto's yang, even down to their outfit and hair color. As Faust serves as Mephisto's mostly silent protector, always protecting Mephisto from the consequences of his own antics. Faust is quiet, serious, and reserved, and those traits should be preserved in his voice acting. With that in mind, Johnny Yong Bosch, who has played Tomioka in Demon Slayer and Izuru Kamukura (Yas Queen ), would be perfect for Faust. ( Shinobu triggering Giyu Tomioka Demon Slayer funny moments - YouTube )
  8. Patriot: Patriot is a bit of a special case. Due to having what I have decided to dub 'super mega oripathy' his voice has changed considerably, to the point of being hard to recognize as a human. That's in addition to the helmet/mask he wears also further muffling his voice. My guess is that Patriot's voice is going to be put through a HEAVY filter, to the point where honestly ANYONE could voice the character. For an idea of what a heavily filtered voice could sound like for Patriot in English, we can look to the Death Announcer from No More Heroes 3. (No More Heroes 3 Enemy Death Announcer - YouTube)
  9. Frostnova: If there's one character that lives rent-free in the minds of every Arknights player, it's Frostnova. I'm sure her story needs no introduction or summary because we all know it, but it can be summed up in one word, tragic. Frostnova is the Reunion equivalent to Amiya, in that she is a young girl (probably on 15 or 16) who has been forced to mature due to the horrible things she's seen. Apphia Yu has a lot of experience voicing characters like Frostnova, young girls who have been forced to mature due to stressful circumstances. Examples of her work in these categories includes Victorique De Blois from Gosick, Saiai Kinuhata from A Certain Scientific Railgun, and most recently Rika Furude from Higurashi: When They Cry - Gou (and Sotsu of course). (Higurashi Gou - Rika and Satoko's Debate【Dub】 - YouTube)
And I think that's everyone! Of course, these are just my opinions and I've gotten most of my ideas from what character voice my brain uses when reading through the visual novel portions of the story. I'd love to hear yours.

2020.02.13 19:54 TheOgHolloweyes Over 70 Cards Used This Year This Is My Top 10 All Positions Included With Added Bonus Of Synergy Advice.

So....You are sitting on some coins , wondering how should I improve my team ? Should I get a team synergy going ? Maybe a new Goalie?
Well I’m here to try and give you a hand in doing just that! First off everyone’s play style is different, what works for me might not work for you but I’m offering my knowledge of what I feel are amazing cards and what to expect to pay and how they play. Let’s go over some top end cards and some cheaper end cards and help you make that final decision.
Ping 6ms steady always ( I’m giving you everything lol). Rivals Div 3 SB Elite 1 ( currently inside top 100 this week )
  1. 95 Barkov PT - Ummm Yup he is everything you can imagine he is . The speed is there , the strength is above and beyond and face -offs are 97 . On top off being so strong on the puck defensively he is amazing , blocks shots , takes away pucks. Overall currently my favourite card. Synergies X and DK , I have X activated .
-Cons. You will pay on a good day 500k to 550k to a whopping 625k on a bad day . - Shot. If I had any complaints about this card I’d say his shot is the weakest part , I mean don’t get me wrong it’s great I’m just saying it would be the weakest part on the card .
  1. 94 Matthews PT - Amazing , Amazing , Amazing . This card was built for speed and Agility with shot and puck control being its added bonus . Always in the right position ( A.I ) for backdoor opportunities and can snipe like a beast . Strength is Good 7/10 stick checking is above inside card stat . Face offs 93 are fair but I’d say could be a wee bit better . Love , love this card .
-Cons Once again price is a factor with a price point being about 500k to a high end of 600k - Synergies WM 1 and NP 1 none activated on mine . - Did we all see what happened last week in Montreal ? Matthews might just possibly have worse back checking skills over Ovi and his card plays into his real life ways . With a inside stat of 92 Defense awareness it plays more of a 87.
  1. McDavid Toty - Honestly everyone do I need to even go into it ? Fastest card in the game in my eyes , he is everywhere on the ice you want him to be and can snipe from any where you want . Amazing synergies with 4 FB , 4 WC , 4 RS .
-Cons Yes he has some! First off price - I Built mine and in no way do I ever suggest you pay the ridiculous price for him I was lucky enough to pull a toty collectable and had the GCs to make him . - face offs are what the inside stat says 89 . This holds true and is the reason I play him on the wing . - Is very acceptable to being bumped off the puck .
  1. 92 Jagar - WN. OMG EA finally did right by him , in past years he has always been slow , sluggish and just Bleh . I have a good friend that is an elite player and he suggested I try him , I laughed and said “ You would have to pay me coins to use him “ Well am I ever glad I made that choice to buy him . I can’t say he beats Barkov on the strength on puck but he is either the same or damn well close . Finally his speed is right and he can’t get beat on stick checks , great synergies with 2 SP 2 AD . Great shot amazing passing . We can’t go by inside stats on this card because it plays well beyond any of them !
Honourable Mentions - 95 Lemieux - 95 Draisaitl - 95 Crosby Top End Aviods - 95 FB Hull - slooooooow - 95 FB Clark - just ok not worth Price - 94 FB Thornton - Never bought and sold a card quicker , since the birth of hut I’ve always had the best Thornton you can get, but to me this one was a big disappointment. I feel like his stick is 3 miles long and can’t do anything or get him skating ( remember just my opinion ).
One Mans Junk is Another Mans Treasure- Lets talk hidden Gems and great prices!
  1. Alex Delvecchio Icon . That’s right I said it - what? Ok I get it , you were born inside the 90s and you never heard of him . Doesn’t mean he isn’t a hut card and this card is 110% legit . This is a good thing for you this card is a 93 and has a price point of anywhere from 145k to 220k. Defensively this card might be one of the best in the game . Amazing back check, amazing stick check a 95 Defense awareness and that’s just his Defensive side !
Everyone looks at a card sometimes and says “ Ah man he is slow “I’m here to say this is not always true ! Like Jagar and other cards the build of the card has a lot to do with it . He is speedy as hell and can snipe like the best of them and his Face offs play well above the 92 rated inside stat. BUY THIS CARD !!!!!
  1. 89 Howie Morenz Icon - Yup I’m sticking with the trend! I get it , he’s not the sexiest name in this generation but once again this card plays way , way , way beyond his inside stats. This card was built to be a speed demon with the card playing well beyond his inside stats in shooting and strength . With a price point being anywhere from 95 - 140k. You might ask your self is this a deal ? Well considering you would have to make or spend 7 Icons collectables to make him . 100k to 125k is a steal for this card especially for the way he plays and 2 SP synergies and a M is a added bonus . BUY THIS CARD !
  2. Any version of Marner - I don’t care if it’s base , PT , totow . 85- 93 he just plays amazing . Last night a 91 Marner went for a 120k on PS4 that is an absolute steal for a card that plays like Gretzky should . The shot , oh that beautiful shot is to die for . Bang Bang - Snipe snipe . He is currently the number 1 scorer on my team and can’t wait until I can get my hands on a 93 version of him ( for appeal of course ) I feel like he is very under rated to a lot of people . BUY A MARNER !!!
Honourable Mentions - Any version of Adam Fox - Any version of Headman - Any version of Alex Debrincat. Ever try him ? You won’t be disappointed and super cheap. - Last but not least 91 Icon Savard - not so cheap but another card that just plays well beyond inside stats.
Defense Wins Championships
  1. 90 Bob Murray Icon - I don’t know what it is about him he is just defensively sound . All inside stats agree with this card . 2nd best +/- on my team next to Addison . Doesn’t score a ton but when it comes to shutting guys down in and around the net Murray is a must own. Not the biggest D guy if you are into that short of thing , but strength is great - shot blocking is unreal and never ever gets caught up Ice. BUY THIS CARD !!!!
  2. 90 Victor Headman All-Star - Now above I mentioned any version of headman is great and this is very much true . I’m bringing this card up for one reason and one only . Shot!! Something about the 90 All- Star version shot is different from the 94 or lower versions and I’ll tell you the hidden secret. The 90 all -star version wants to shoot low and I don’t know why but In most cases it does this automatically even when aiming, some might think how is this great ? Well here is why! No other players tip more goals in from a shot then from my all-star headman. The power in the shot when it’s low it’s all most a cheat code. Not only that but you can pick him up for around a 100k. Instead of paying 400k for his 94.
ADDED BONUS OF SYNERGY TALK:
Let’s get one thing clear here people, yes synergies do work and yes you can feel a difference, but here is the problem.
A lot of you will never feel the difference and here’s why - PING ! I’m extremely lucky and I am really thankful and don’t take it lightly that I get to play on a 6ms ping. For you guys playing in a 36 or above Ping I feel your pain and I once was like you until I moved . I promise you they do work though.
Ok so I see people asking what synergies should I get and people reply with a bunch of get this and that , blah , blah , blah . When really they should say this and this only ! What synergy do you think would benefit your play style. Those are the synergies you should go after. Let’s take me as an example , I am a very passive player I am very defensive minded so my go to synergy’s would be TK and FB . If I was aggressive and like to bang a lot WC would be my fav. It’s all in the way you the user plays the game of hockey period .
So when asking yourself the question of : What team synergies should I go after , ask yourself what type of player am I ? You have your answer and start by getting those team synergies first. Then If you want add on from that point forward .
I hope you guys find this helpful and in closing I like to say . Who do you feel I left out ? Who’s in your top 10 players this tear. Obviously way more players that could be on other peoples list this is just my opinion but don’t ever hesitate to inbox me if you have a question on a player I’ve tried tons this year and I could always give you my opinion. Cheers Guys!

2020.01.20 14:55 VolkanOzcan An analysis on Penguin Magic user reviews

Hello,
To practise some programming, I made an analysis of the user reviews left on penguin magic. I thought you could be interested in some of the results. It made me check a lot of products that I did not know about.
I excluded the reviews for expos and gift cards to analyse only physical items and tricks. I investigated only the items with at least one review. I combined items as Penguin did. This left me with 87761 reviews for 11318 items.

"I'll admit it. We did it. All of us, the galactic community at large, just to save ourselves. There were secret meetings and orders passed before the moral committees even knew they existed.
I'm so sorry to them. They shouldn't have had to endure that. But think of the lives we saved."
-Faiji Montan'ka, Worldspeaker for Iden, Aures Cluster, in an interview before his arrest.
June had a cough again. This was the third time this year, and Lisa was beginning to think the small apartment her daughter and herself were in wasn't up to code. She would talk to the landlord again tomorrow. There was a flash of white outside the window. This wasn't an environment she could raise June in, not if there was mold in the walls. She walked back into June's room with the cold medicine and a bag of cough drops.
"Did you want some soup later, honey?"

But June was pale, and no amount of coaxing could bring her back.
Danny shivered as he walked back from the corner store. Montreal was cold. His blazer barely did anything to stop the winter chill biting into him, and having to have one hand exposed to hold the plastic bag wasn't doing any favors either. He should've bought some coffee. No, what he should've done was make sure his flatmate Greg didn't eat all the goddamn food in the fridge. Danny wondered if he could order a combination lock on amazon.
But that wouldn't work, the fridge handle was vertical. Maybe one of those flippy things? A padlock? You saw them in all those comedies, where they locked up seventeen different kinds of locks on one door. There was a flash of white, and Danny saw some kind of-
Fuck it was cold. Danny shivered as he made his way up the steps of his flat. Why was the corner store so far away? Why was Montreal so goddamn cold? He could still see his breath, even inside the apartment. Danny placed the bag on the counter, and went to check if dumbass had somehow broken the heater too. Just one more reason he had to move somewhere else. He was tired of Greg. And the cold. Why was it so cold?

Daniel Green was found dead by his flatmate. Cause of death would later be known to be hypothermia, and shock.
Macy brushed away cobwebs as she walked through the archaic entryway of the house. It was old, decrepit, and Jim was bouncing off the walls running through every room and hallway. Which, despite him complaining the whole way here, somewhat really suited Macy's idea of him. He was kind of a bastard sometimes, but he was always good to his people, and always lit up like a kid when they found a new location to shoot. And it really was a perfect house to shoot the show in. Old ghosts was a stupid reality TV series, but fake as it was, people still watched it.
Sometimes she wondered about people like that, and how they supported her entire life. What happened when they lost interest? How would she pay bills?
And then she would get back to work.
Setting up the cameras and the table wasn't hard, and Jim would place orange fluorescent tape where he though good places for a shot were. Long hallway, check. Eerie fireplace room? Check. All Macy had to do was set up a tripod, frame it right while it was still light out, pull the curtains, take a test shot and adjust. Not how she imagined her college education working for her. Then again, sometimes it was better than her second job waiting tables. That job made her hate people, and while Jim was a bastard, he wasn't a lecher. There crash back in the table room, and she could hear the shutter going off on her Nikon. The hell?
"Jim, are you touching my camera?"
Jim called out from upstairs, "Who, me? I would never."
Macy stepped out of the room into the hallway, and rushed quickly toward the table room, where she could hear the camera still clicking repeatedly. She stepped around the corner, and there was the Nikon, going off every second with a brilliant flash of white-

"Today, two producers of the reality TV series Old Ghosts have been found dead at a remote mansion. Jim Haesher and Macy Calen were both reported missing two days ago, after neither checked in after they were supposed to stop filming. Both were found inside the mansion, unfortunately having came into contact with what police are calling poisonous spores, released by the deteriorating condition of the house. The police have quarantined the area, and fumigation is expected to commence in the next two days. Our sincere condolences go out to their families. Coming up, what one woman found when she dug up her yard for her garden? The answer, might surprise you."
Bob liked the dog park. Lots of people being active, running and throwing and generally living life. Being retired and in a wheelchair really had started to put things in perspective for him. Not to mention only having one leg to stand on. But Buck didn't care. So long as Buck had a stick and someone to throw it, life was fine for Buck.
Bob wondered if he could be as happy like his dog seemed to be some days. After Jesse had passed on, most of the color in life had gone with her. But the bills still needed to be paid, and someone still had to manage the AA meetings. Jesse had given Bob his second chance. He would be damned if he didn't pay it back to someone else. She deserved that.
A grey-black streak came bounding up the green hill, congealing into the form of a panting, happy stick enthusiast. And of course there was still Buck.
"Good boy! C'mere. No, not over there, come. Good boy! Whosa good boy Buck? Who?"
Bob half chuckled as he wiped the slime and grime off the already-falling-apart branch. He'd have to get another stick soon. Buck was smart, he always brought back the one Bob threw, and he wouldn't fetch a new one unless Bob went and picked it up himself. A damn good boy. Bob looked back down, and suddenly he was holding the most important stick in the world. Those eyes were so happy, and he couldn't dare disappoint them. It was almost as if he could feel the world shift when he reached his arm back, and threw it with all the strength a retired wheelchair-bound 76 year old could muster.
"Fetch!"
Buck did that stupid-happy scramble dogs always do when they're on concrete, and bolted down the hill toward the most important stick in the world. Bob smiled. Here, in the park, he was okay for the moment. Maybe he'd be okay for the day. He looked up at the summer clouds, the sun shining and warming his old bones. Jesse had asked for a nice day for him. He'd have to thank her somehow. Maybe go visit her today.
There was a flash of white off to his right. Bob glanced over and someone was walking, shining, an angel of pure-

Cara ran breathlessly toward Buck. Something had to be wrong. He had interrupted her jog and led her all the way here, yipping and whining the whole way. Cara found old man Bob reclining slightly in his wheelchair, Buck propped on top of his lap, whining, with a stick on the ground.
It was ruled a heart attack.
The little tykes were driving Cory up the wall. Being a kindergarten teacher was basically a glorified babysitter some days. Some days were good, like when they would try to read her a book, or read books to each other, or days when she didn't have to break out the bandages. Any day that the kids were quiet was a good day.
Today was not a good day.
The summer heat was beating down on all of them, and recess had been declared so as to burn off the abundance of energy they all had. The playground had swingsets and slides, and some of the kids congregated at picnic tables with their lunches. Cory was sure at least one mom had packed a pop in with lunch today again, which meant one of the bundles of energy would still be bouncing during nap time. Wonderful. Sometimes she wanted to slap some of these mothers. She was also becoming increasingly sure she didn't want to be one yet. Her maternal instincts were probably in there somewhere, sure, but Cory didn't think she could handle having a child at home. Her boyfriend Ricky would probably be a good dad, but at the moment, she was content with not testing it. Kindergarten kept her busy enough. As if to reiterate her point, two girls came running full tilt under the awning.
"Miss Cory! Miss Cory! Jack, Jack won't um, Jack won't share his soda with us! And, and, and he said, he said that it's his but we said we would share some of ours, but, but, but he won't share his even though we said we would share some of ours! And, and, and-"
Ah yes. Sharing. The one point of contention that was in everyone's head after the soda incident yesterday. Not to mention the germs, but Cory really didn't want every child today bickering about it again. One time yesterday was enough. Still. Every moment was a learning moment.
"Okay then, let's go find Jack," Cory said. "But no running."
Cory walked out into the courtyard, flanked by two of the world's youngest police officers. The sun was so hot this afternoon, and she was thinking of calling recess early if only to get some water into these kids and cool them off a bit. Definitely not to try and cool their heads. No, never.
Jack was standing on top of the picnic table, trying to share his soda, again. Holding it aloft like it was a king's scepter, or maybe like an auctioneer looking for the highest bidder. Kids with lunchboxes were gathered around him, holding out fruit snacks and sandwiches, attempting to barter their way to greatness. Cory immediately saw how Jack thought this was going to play out. She also saw how it actually was going to.
Cory stepped up to the table and plucked the can of pop right out of Jack's fingers.
"Okay buddy, we talked about this yesterday. You said you would tell your mom not to pack any more soda in your lunch, and-"
There was a loud crack by the swingset, and Cory's head instinctively swiveled to see the perpetrator. She swore, if Darius was smacking something else on the poles again-
There was a flash of white, like a sun had ignited in the courtyard. Cory immediately shut her eyes against it, but even in the daylight the afterimage burned on her retinas. A person?
Like they were cloaked in wisps of sunlight, reaching toward something on the ground. What was on the ground? Another person? No, a child. One of her kids. Julian?
It had been reaching for him.
Cory's eyes immediately flashed open and she started to sprint toward the swings. Nothing was going to touch her kids.

It was the last thought she ever had.
Faiji Montan'ka, Worldspeaker for Iden, turned from the quarantine box and addressed the scientists gathered around him.
"And it's working? We're getting definite results with each one of these....tests."
Bioscientist Morsha spoke up.
"Yes sir. Each time we've deployed the...deployed the subject with a specific virus, it has returned with either a cure or alternative strain. However, due to the nature of the...subject, so far every attempt has returned with a one hundred percent mortality rate of the host."
Faiji looked back into the polarized enclosure. The creature swimming in a cocktail of depressants and inhibitors was the bearer of every virus known to Iden, indoctrinated to infect a human every time they deployed it to Earth. It was an abomination, but it wasn't responsible for its actions. Iden's best scientists had created it to find inoculations for their species failing immune systems, and it had been approved on Faiji's order.
He stared at the creature. The quarantine box was polarized because it used bioluminescence as a defense mechanism, blinding its prey before injecting a viral cocktail. A bacterial nuke going off would usually shock the host into a state of paralysis, with antibodies replicating wildly to fight the virus. Eventually the creature would attack again, highly adapted synapses meant it could replicate the host's condition right before dispersing itself to return. Convalescing back inside the containment chamber, the scientists gathered around Faiji would replicate the host strains retained inside the creature, and use them to create vaccines. It was a plan enacted in desperation, and as Faiji could see, desperation was having consequences.
"Why are they dying?"
No one answered for a moment, and the tension around the room was palpable. Finally the answer came.
"Because it evolved."
Faiji spun around. "What?"
A geneticist answered him. "I'm Padla sir. And like I said, it evolved. Normally it would copy the neural state of the host, but these humans sir, they're so hardwired. It's why they're able to fight off infection so readily."
"That doesn't explain why it keeps killing them."
"Simply put sir, because it has to. Their brains are highly adaptive, yes, but they're entirely vulnerable when outside their casing." She said. "To get into the casing it has to pass through a cellular barrier, or literally force its way inside manually. This creature is aeriform in nature sir, but even it can't take the strain of trying to slip inside that small a space."
Faiji's eyes narrowed as he turned his entire focus on the geneticist. "So it evolved."
She nodded. "Without question sir. We've noticed it using its tendrils at a secondary point of injection, here." She gestured to a human neck along the diagram on the wall.
"Right up the spinal column. It hijacks the nerve clusters there and pings the entire brain casing upward, using a kind of bio-electric echolocation we're still trying to figure out. So far as we can tell it's been doing this successfully without raising any undue alarm, but at the moment, sending out that many signals at once from the same origin point is overloading the human's nervous system. They can't handle the strain of that many signals that fast sir. And that's even taking into account how much they usually do."
"But any slower and we risk discovery, yes?"
Morsha answered again. "Yes sir. We all understand the risks here. No one wants to see these humans die like this, but it will be next to nothing if Iden doesn't get these vaccines. We are trying to make sure it is a as painless as possible sir, and we are nothing if not careful with the...subject."
Faiji stared at the glass. One life for a billion. And they'd taken so many already.
"So these quirks it's taken on, these tendrils like their hands, this luminescent cloak, this human face it's grown. Why these visual adaptations? Why not adapt to stop killing the host subject instead?"
Painful silence answered him.
Faiji turned to a room full of scientists carefully not looking anywhere in his direction.
"What."
He saw Padla glance up at him nervously. "Yes?" he ventured.
"W-w-well, w-we're not sure sir. It's, it's a highly c-c-complex nervous system," she stammered.
"And you're able to replicate it on a genetic scale, so what's the problem?"
Faiji froze. There was a light tapping on the glass behind him. Most of the scientists immediately averted their eyes as a gentle light began to pulse behind his back. Padla flat out sank to the floor, while Morsha's face grew hard, and slightly tired.
"It's alright sir. It just wants to talk. You see, as Padla explained, we're absolutely sure it evolved."
Faiji turned slowly, the isolation tank growing larger in his peripheral vision as he rotated toward the source of the light.
A young human woman was inside the tank, her face glowing softly, most of her body obscured by a pure white shroud, composed of what had to be millions, billions of neural sheathe tendrils. Her face was sad, but some of the tendrils reached out toward Faiji, and eventually splayed into a human hand. She pressed it up against the glass.
"We're also absolutely sure in that taking all those lives, it's gone quite mad. We've instructed it with the genetic coding not to kill the host, but every time it overwrites it. We think at this point it sees no alternative. Quite frankly sir, it scares most of the personnel. Especially when it wants to talk."
Faiji stared in horror as the fibers on the cloak splayed into grotesque wings. The creatures eyes went a frozen icy blue, and it opened a black cavern of a mouth. She whispered, and Faiji heard only nightmares.

2017.03.15 01:13 Caltroit_Red_Flames Drafting Center vs Defense 2017

After seeing the post about Dylan Larkin needing to adapt to the center position at the NHL level, I started thinking about the positional needs of the Red Wings. Obviously we aren't strong defensively, we have prospects but none with top pairing potential. The thing is how are we doing at center?
A lot of people were expecting Sheahan to be a 2nd line talent in a year or two, and for Larkin to slot in as the top line center when Zetterberg retires. This doesn't look like it's going to happen after what we've seen from them this year (although it could just be a down year). I realize that Larkin is only 20, and I honestly think he can still be a first line center in a few years. However, I looked at the players that are in the draft this year and a few mock drafts and that got me thinking.
If you look at the following mock drafts:
myNHLdraft
Bob McKenzie
draftsite
Craig Button
You'll find that there a TON of centers in the top 10 of the mock drafts, and only 2 defensemen. But here's the real kicker... Look at 2018 mock drafts.
Rasumus Dahlin
Adam Boqvist
Evan Bouchard
Xavier Bouchard
Calen Addison
Quinton Hughes
Jared McIsaac
Ryan Merkley
Jeremie Bicheler
The 2018 draft is FILLED with defensemen. So I know we're all jumping for Liljegren, but I'm mostly wondering... Is that simply because our defense is so bad that we're looking to draft based on need rather than skill? I don't want to end up drafting our own version of Erik Gudbranson, in my opinion we have to draft the best player available and I'm pretty damn sure it's going to be a center. The thing is, with the 2018 draft in mind, and the fact that Sheahan and Larkin aren't where we want them to be currently, I think that might actually work out better for us.

2016.11.02 15:16 ATHatch Master list of all Libertarian state legislature races

This list contains all Libertarian state legislature candidates (there are likely errors) that are running on ballots that show them running as Libertarians, which means places like Nebraska are excluded because it is non-partisan on the ballot. We should focus what remaining resources we have for state legislature races on winning in districts where there is only one major party candidate, that way we can come out of this election with a net gain of people in office. We can do it! One final push before the end!

Questions Answers
Other than being asked, "How'd you do that?" what's the most annoying thing people ask you? One of the most annoying things I get when performing is when I spread the cards to have someone pick one and an audience member instantly says "OH I KNOW THIS." It's annoying because at least 75% of card magic starts with having a card selected.
Somebody walks in after a 4-Ace production... "I KNOW THIS ONE!" Hahahaha :)
Is this AMA sanctioned by The Alliance of Magicians? Probably. I can neither confirm nor deny that.
What made you want to become a magician and when did you know it was your "calling"? My dad first showed me a card trick in my living room when I was seven years old, and told me how to do it. My first show when I was ten was really nerve-wracking, but friends and family encouraged me to keep with it and improve, so I did.
YouTube has an amazing audience and community of magicians. I started my magic account on youtube in January of 2011, and haven't stopped. It's definitely been instrumental in helping me continue learning. I hope to make it a profession or a side profession one day!
Does it get you the girls? Sometimes.
Do you have a nemesis? Not yet.
What's your favorite salad dressing? Italian.
How do magnets work? Probably magic.
What magicians do you admire? Any that you don't like? When I was first starting in magic, I looked up to David Blaine, just because he was new at the time, and everything seemed so real because it was just him and a camera on the streets of NYC. I still look up to him today.
More recently, I've really been admiring Darwin Ortiz. He's an excellent creator, as well as a dynamic thinker when it comes to magic. His book Strong Magic has a lot on why magic is impressive, and how to improve your own magic!
What is the worse train wreck during a performance, and how did you get over it? I once was performing for a group of elderly people at a care home. I was performing a graphology effect (a mentalism trick where several empty envelopes are handed out to the audience and members are instructed to put something small and personal into them. Upon having the envelopes mixed, the magician then opens and identifies the objects with the people in the audience). Every object out of the four envelopes, I guessed the wrong person. Something went wrong in my setup. It was horrible.
How did you recover? I just kind of said something along the lines of "nobody's perfect" hahaha.
I LIKED THAT. DINNER SOMETIME? RIGHT. NOW.
What's in the box??? Whaaatss in the boooxxx??? I can neither confirm nor deny.
Do you demand to be taken seriously? Real questions. How long have you trained? How precise is the factor for error in your tricks illusions? I've been doing magic for eight or nine years now. And depending on the trick, the likelihood of error can either be like... negative, or higher than my friends were on Bob Marley's birthday a few days ago. It is safe to call magic "tricks" because I am in fact, tricking your mind into thinking I'm doing something.
If you were to pull a American half dollar out from behind me ear and you were wearing short sleeves, how would you go about that? There are various techniques for achieving that effect trough misdirection and creative placement of objects in, around, and near your subject ;)
Let's step this up a notch. Let's say you're a one armed magician, how would you go about tricking me into thinking that half dollar is in my ear? Btw thanks for replying, best of luck bud. There are many ways of doing that. I'm glad you're interested in magic and how it works. Sounds like you've been tricked a few times. That's the fun of magic!
Have you ever done the bunny out of the top hat trick? I have not! I perform mainly closeup magic, which is the kind of magic done in something like a bar setting. I busk on the street with just a table and a hat for tips. I do closeup rather than stage because there is less of a reason to think something can be tampered with because it is literally right under your nose.
So you were the asshole who made me piss orange soda?! THAT'S ME!
Have you ever performed the penis-in-the-pizza-box? Unfortunately, I have not!
Your personal favorite trick you have ever done? And personal favorite of anyone else's? I really like this one, by Darwin Ortiz: Link to www.youtube.com
What do you think of TV shows like Magic's Biggest Secrets Revealed, where the tricks are shown to the audience? How would that affect a magician and their performing act, knowing that part of the illusion may be gone? Well, people learn from somewhere. Everyone can learn magic and its secrets, wether it be from purchasing a book, or looking it up on YouTube (I've even made a few easy card trick tutorials! www.youtube.com/punchwater). I think that it only strengthens the community of magicians by adding more people who are interested.
Is your name GOB Bluth? Yeah I have no idea what you're talking about sorry.
How did you do that? Maaagic.
Can you fan? Double fan? I can fan! By double fan, do you mean fanning in both hands at the same time?
Proof would be appreciated. Fanning has always amazed me like Honey-Boo Boo at Full Moon BBQ. Link to www.youtube.com
What do you think about magican DYNAMO? Do you still get this "OMG how the fuck he did this??" when you see other magicans performing? A lot of the time! I think Dynamo is really good. I've heard he's like the David Blaine of Europe.
How long does it take for you to create a new trick and then master it to the point of being able to perform it? And where does your inspiration for new tricks come from? For me, learning a new trick and then being able to perform it is either really easy or super hard. Depending on the age of the effect (magic that is older tends to be inefficient and less amazing), I can generally pick up a trick in a good amount of time, and be able to perform it at an ok level.
Creating a trick is harder. Magic has been around for centuries, so coming up with things that are new is difficult.
My inspiration can come from anywhere, but it is mainly on YouTube - there's a huge cardist community there!
Are you going to make another omegle magic video? I really want to! I think it would be a lot of fun.
What do you say to the people who think that magicians sell their soul to the devil? I tell them I do. Then they walk away.
Have you ever had to improvise a trick, figuring it out as you went? If so, what was it and why did you need to? I have, many a time. It usually happens when I screw up a previous trick, and I need something to quickly wow the audience.
How much do you earn from performing acts? Is it enough to make a living out of? Not right now. Performing four hours at a market twice a week can sometimes make me around $200.
Any tricks you could share with us? Link to www.youtube.com Link to www.youtube.com Link to www.youtube.com
Favorite kind of magic to perform? And have you gone to the magic castle yet? I love close up magic. I have not been to MC though!
Can you give me some tips on how to successfully perform a playing card back palm? I can never make it look natural. Practice, practice, practice. Practice in front of a mirror. Practice until it feels natural. Look up videos on how to do it too! That usually helps me. Keep your fingers straight. If you as the magician believe that the card is gone, the audience will too!
I like that. My hands are about the size of canoe paddles, which you'd think is good, but the spaces between my fingers are too far apart. What cards are you using?
Whatever I find at Wal Mart, honestly. Bicycle and such. That's good. Yeah for the back palm, it's just a lot of practice.
Do you belive the rabbit in hat trick is cruel? To an extent. Although we can't really talk to rabbits to see what their opinion on the matter is. Actually that effect takes the necessary precautions to make sure the animal is safe and comfortable :)
Do you demand to be taken seriously? If people don't want to take me seriously, that's up to them. I just think it's hilarious when those people are fooled by the simplest things, and then they pretend like they weren't.
Knowing how the tricks work is there any tricks you wonder how the general public doesn't pick up on it? Yes! All the time. Performing downtown frequently in the summer, I tend to stick with the same eight or nine card effects that are so simple, but no one ever picks up on anything.
How did you decided to be magician? I decided to be a magician when my dad showed me my first card trick ever! I actually taught it in this video! Link to www.youtube.com
How much u gain per show/month/year? A typical street show, I can earn up to $200. I do that AT LEAST every other weekend in the summer.
What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning? Art! I enjoy a lot of other things other than magic, and the ability to create is one of them.
Do you ever do stage illusions? (I do them especially metamorphosis) I have no idea what to do when it comes to a big stage show. I'm primarily a closeup magician.
Follow up question; you said that you perform in downtown. Have you ever been harassed by random people? All the time. They were mostly homeless. Honestly, it was really scary.
YOU THERE! FANCY WIZARD! MAKE A STEAK APPEAR! HAHAHAHAH THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THEY'RE THINKING.
Who are your greatest influences in close up magic? David Blaine, Michael Ammar, Caleb Sohigian, Darwin Ortiz, Calen Moreli!
How do you feel when people ask you how to do your tricks or something similar? I feel happy to know that I fooled them really hard.
Aren't you scared dealing with all those evil forces? The evil forces are scared of dealing with me.
What's your wizard level? Or are you just a magician? I'm probably like a level -5 wizard. I'm just a magician :)
What's your favorite magic book? Strong Magic by Darwin Ortiz!
Will you reveal your secrets to us? Probably not. But I can tell you ABOUT magic!
What's your favourite trick to perform? Anything in the hands of the spectator. It's one thing for someone to watch magic, but it's another for someone to feel it.
Link to www.youtube.com The effects in this video are my standard openers for either a one on one performance or a small group.
What are your thoughts/opinions on the muscle pass chip trick? I think it's really impressive and also harder than the first thing next to getting out of bed in the morning.
Have you read the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher? It's my favourite series about magic. I will definitely look into that! It sounds familiar...
I go to downtown Portland quiet often and ive never seen you. is their somewhere you usually hang out? Usually in the summer at the Saturday Market.
As a person who knows quite a bit about magic, the Envylope is a must have, seriously an amazing effect : Link to www.youtube.com Nice! Thats super cool. I might get it.
When you see things on TV do you know how they do them or are they as mysterious to you as they are to the rest of us? Some I know, others I can figure out :)
Have you ever messed up a trick in front of the audience? Yes. A lot of times.
Question. Dirt. Do you clean behind there often? KIDDING i have no idea.
Can you make this thread disappear? Can you?
How do you do it? Magic.
Do you have any good magician jokes? No.
There was a young kid like you on this past season of America's Got Talent and he got pretty far. You should try out the auditions, the show needs more magic and less singers & dancers. Thank you! Unfortunately, I don't do stage, or big, performances. I like to keep my magic close up. But thank you for the kind words!
Illusionist, check mate atheists. I'm not sure what the question is. Rephrase?
Is your name Merlin? Well it's definitely not Sean O.
Are you part of the Eye of Horus? (Reference to now you see me) I can neither confirm nor deny.
