2024.05.14 10:11 CalmTinker The Indian Obsession With Horns

Today I was driving my wife to her office in an IT hub. I generally don't travel that route as my office is elsewhere. It was a very slow drive due to extreme traffic. At a particular instance a two wheeler guy stopped in front of me as his engine got turned off so obviously I had to stop too. He just had to start his bike and drive. It takes 2 secs, 5 secs tops. And there was this car guy behind me, he started honking his horn multiple times. It was extreme traffic there was no space to give him. What was I supposed to do? Tereko jagah dene k liye kya samne wale ko thok du? Another incident - while taking a turn there was another carwalah who was honking. Ha bhai pata hai tuze jana hai but turn le raha hu 2 sec ruk nahi sakta kya traffic me? This is not the first instance of incessant honking I have faced but today I faced it many times to make me write a post about it.
We Indians press horns like its a solution to all our problems. I have heard stories about how people generally avoid using horns in foreign countries like Singapore, even in traffic and here we are. We think by using horn the person driving in front will get scared and treat you like red carpet celebrity and give you space - aaiye meherba, padhariye. Especially the ones with four wheelers think since they own a car they are kings and bike drivers are flies who need to be swatted aside. This is akin to some(NOT ALL) Iphone users looking down on Android midranger users lol. These days I purposefully dont pay any attention if someone honks incessantly behind me, just treat him like he doesnt exist. I am like if you want to drive the way you want but cry like a baby with your horn because you cant do it, thats surely in hell not my problem and I will drive the way I want. Screw you and screw your horn. End of rant.

2024.05.14 09:15 Determined_fighter Indian roads are not sustainable for the increasing number of vehicles

Indians are purchasing cars in large numbers every year. We have around more than 21 crore two-wheelers and over 7 crore four-wheelers and above category of vehicles registered (Nitin Gadkari to ET). Despite this, average ownership in the country is only 8%.
So the question is as the ownership no. increases with more rising incomes and more people buying vehicles, how will the traffic and congestion of roads pan out in future? This coupled with the lack of civility and road sense is a disaster waiting to unfold.

2024.05.13 23:57 Old_Intactivist Citizens were randomly hanged and shot: The eyewitness testimony of Alice Campbell and others

Introduction to Chapter 8 ("Heralded by Columns of Smoke: Pee Dee River to Fayetteville, North Carolina"):
"Once across the Pee Dee River, General Sherman's army marched in the direction of Fayetteville.
"Resistance from Confederate cavalry under Generals Hampton, Butler and Wheeler was steady and continuous. Wheeler attacked at Rockingham on March 7, and Hampton surprised and captured Kilpatrick's camp on March 10. But Sherman's army marched steadily on.
"General Joseph E. Johnston, with headquarters at Fayetteville, was following General Lee's first instruction, 'Concentrate all available forces.' He moved his headquarters to Raleigh and directed the assembling of his army to Smithfield.
"Eighty-four years earlier, in January of 1781, North Carolina had suffered another march by an invading army. Lord Cornwallis and his army followed almost the same route on their way to Wilmington. This army had come three thousand miles to put down 'a rebellion'; and to pursue retreating 'rebels' through a wild and thinly scattered country. His army had passed through Cross Creek, which was now called Fayetteville.
"On March 11, General Sherman and his army entered this town. 'We have swept the country well,' he reported. 'The men and animals are in fine condition.'"
--------------------------------------------
"Miss Alice Campbell was President of the Fayetteville Knitting Society when Colonel A. H. Hickenlooper, of Sherman's army, chose her home for his five-day sojourn. Bummers also visited her."
--------------------------------------------
"'Sherman, with his hordes of depraved and lawless men, came upon us like swarms of bees, bringing sorrow and desolation in their pathway. For days we had been expecting them, and our loved boys in grey had been passing through in squads, looking ragged and hungry. We gave them food and clothing, especially shoes and socks, for many of them were bare-footed. The enemy seemed to be pouring in by every road that led to our doomed little town. Our Cavalry were contending every step, firing and falling back, covering the retreat of our gallant little band, Hardee's forces, with General Wade Hampton, Butler, and others -- the scene in our town baffled description, all was consternation and dismay. In less time than I can write this, Sherman's army was in possession of our once peaceful, quiet homes. Every yard and every house was teeming with the bummers, who went into our homes -- no place was sacred; they even went into our trunks and bureau draws, stealing everything they could find; our entire premises were ransacked and plundered, so there was nothing left for us to eat, but perhaps a little meal and peas. Chickens, and in fact all poultry was shot down and taken off with all else. We all knew our silver, jewelry and all valuables would fall into their hands, so many women hid them in such places as they thought would never be found ....
''They went into homes that were beautiful, rolled elegant pianos into the yard with valuable furniture, china, cut glass, and everything that was dear to the heart, even old family portraits, and chopped them up with axes -- rolled barrels of flour and molasses into the parlors, and poured out their contents on beautiful velvet carpets, in many cases set fire to lovely homes and burned them to the ground, and even took some of our old citizens and hanged them until life was nearly extinct, to force them to tell where their money was hidden; when alas! they had none to hide. They burned our factories, and we had a number of them, also many large warehouses, filled with homespun, and dwellings, banks, stores and other buildings, so that the nights were made hideous with dense smoke and firelight in every direction. The crowning point to this terrible nightmare of destruction was the burning and battering down of our beautiful and grandly magnificent Arsenal, which was our pride, and the showplace of our town.
''On our vacant lot behind our home .... were a number of Confederate prisoners who had been captured by Sherman's army, and placed there under guard. They numbered about one hundred, I think. They were hatless and shoeless and ragged ....'
"One of General Howard's young officers chose to stay in the home of Sally Hawthorne whose father and uncle owned two large cotton mills in Fayetteville. General Howard appropriated one of her uncle's houses and his men camped in the surrounding fields and grounds."For five days, Sally, her mother who 'refused to leave her room,' her father, and a houseful of young brothers and sisters and servants were under strict orders from the officers of invasion.
"'Never will I forget,' said the little girl, Sally, whose story follows."
--------------------------------------------
"'Those last days were busy ones for General Sherman and his staff. The beautiful arsenal was destroyed and, as it happened, several private residences also caught fire and burned down, no help being given to save them, and the helpless owners rescued little, thankful to escape with their lives. Also the office of the town paper was blown up, as the editor was an especially obnoxious person in the eyes of the invading army, having waged a bitter fight against the North, and as his office was in the centre of the business part of town, more buildings were burned. (2) Then came the last day of the occupation; the troops were gathering and horses and supplies were being moved. All horses found there were taken along and many in the surrounding country were rounded up. Then there were the warehouses of cotton and rosin. The cotton was brought out, the barrels of rosin piled on them, and all set afire in the street. If houses caught, they burned, and that was all; many did. So a pall of black smoke hung over everything and the people were in a sad state of excitement and nervous exhaustion. As many houses were without a man to help or advise, the men of the family having been killed or being still in the army, the women and children were alone with the servants. The servants, with very few exceptions, proved true to their trust; they had been left to take care of the mistress and children in the master's absence, and though much excited, and sometimes frightened, they looked after the household faithfully. Of course there were some foolish and giddy young men and women who followed the army as it moved on from place to place, but they were the exception, not the rule ....'
"'No spot seemed safe from Sherman's bummers, but homes in the country or suburbs usually suffered more keenly than those in a town or city. The experiences of an unidentified woman who lived near Fayetteville were shared by many neighbors who were visited by the men from Sherman's army."

They hung up three others and one lady, merely letting them down just in time to save life, in order to make them tell where their valuables were concealed; and they whipped -- stripped and cowhided --several good and well known citizens for the same purpose.
"There was no place, no chamber, trunk, drawer, desk, garret, closet or cellar that was private to their unholy eyes. Their rude hands spared nothing but our lives, and those they would have taken but they knew that therein they would accomplish the death of a few helpless women and children -- they would not in the least degree break or bend the spirit of our people. Squad after squad unceasingly came and went and tramped through the halls and rooms of our house day and night during the entire stay of the army.'
"At our house they killed every chicken, goose, turkey, cow, calf and every living thing, even to our pet dog. They carried off our wagons, carriage and horses, and broke up our buggy, wheelbarrow, garden implements, axes, hatchets, hammers, saws, and burned the fences. Our smokehouse and pantry, that a few days ago were well stored with bacon, lard, flour, dried fruit, meal, pickles, preserves, etc., now contain nothing whatever except a few pounds of meal and flour and five pounds of bacon. They took from old men, women and children alike, every garment of wearing apparel save what we had on, not even sparing the napkins of infants! Blankets, sheets, quilts, &c., such as it did not suit them to take away they tore to pieces before our eyes. After destroying everything we had, and taking from us every morsel of food (save the pittance I have mentioned), one of these barbarians had to add insult to injury by asking me 'what you (I) would live upon now?' I replied, 'Upon patriotism; I will exist upon the love of my country as long as life will last, and then I will die as firm in that love as the everlasting hills.
''Oh,' says he, ' but we shall soon subjugate the rebellion, and you will then have no country to love.
''Never!' I interrupted, 'never! you and your blood-handed countrymen may make the whole of this beautiful land one vast graveyard but its people will never be subjugated. Every man, woman and child of us will sleep quietly in honourable graves, but we will never live dishonourable lives .....'"

2024.05.13 22:47 funkygigi83 POSSIBILITY #1 imo of what could have happened . KAREN READ / JOHN O'KEEFE

Colin had issues w john (video). I think all of them were overly served...wasted . Colin saw John and Karen pull up. Saw Karen leave and took the opportunity to scrap. It got crazy, John was essentially jumped. I believe a few "cousins" were also involved w Colin. Brian Albert saw what was going on thru a window, opened the door and Chloe went out and after John. Thinking she was " Protecting it's owner" and bite John. Making winning a fight damn near impossible. Brian followed Chloe and jump in to "protect" Colin. When Brian came out a few others followed. I think they could have used a four-wheeler, mini tractor, lawnmower or something with a small plow to push him on the road & over to the location he was found . The cops/ parents all went into "defend the young man with his whole life ahead of him mode" . Now they are all in above thieir heads, lying thru their teeth. They 100% did not think that this story would blow up they way it did. But oh boy it blew up. I don't believe Karen & John were in bliss mode but I don't think she killed him. All I know is if I were an inmate who had been put in prison in Canton were evidence collection was the crux in the case, my ass would be filing an appeal immediately. Reason: Incompetence of the Police . An if I were an inmate who had any of the Alberts, Proctors , McCabes, Higgins working on their case , I would be double checking everything in my case file . Shady shit like this happens all the time. Small town politics . Just like the murdaugh case... Spoiled entitlement run thru decades of brats.

2024.05.13 20:40 Pimasterjimmy Boomer coworker tried to get me fired (?) it goes badly for her.

Alright, this happened yesterday, I'm going to refer to this person by her nickname, Zippy the Methhead. Or zippy for short.
Now, I also want to clarify that I don't actually hate zippy, she's tried to get me fired in the past, and she's been really really really ugly towards me, but at this point our fights and her attempts to backstab me have been documented well enough that nobody in management takes her seriously. She is like a Chihuahua who chews on your ankles and pisses on the carpet, but it's just so cute how it thinks it's a real dog.
Anyway, storytime!
So I work in a deli at a truck stop that is famous for their ice cream. Zippy is a janitor.
Yesterday, we were incredibly short staffed, with just me and one other person. All together I made 324 ice cream cones in an 8 hour shift. When it was time to close, I told my crew, the guy I was working with and someone who came over to help us close, that I just wanted to close, and that if anyone asked for ice cream to send them to the 24 hour deli in the 18 wheeler section. This isn't appropriate for a normal day, but we're all physically exhausted and I made an exception.
Ten minutes later a customer comes up, and I explain that we're closed, and can't do ice cream, but if they head next door then they can get some.
Zippy overheard me, and immediately jumps in. "The ice cream machine is working fine, you can do it here."
"No zippy, I can't, the ice cream machine is down and we need to focus on cleaning"
"You've got 20 fucking minutes left in the goddamn shift, you can make some fucking ice cream. Stop being fucking lazy. I'm not dealing with your bullshit tonight."
"Zippy. I'm not making ice cream, that's final."
I told the customer they needed to go next door, and then called our night manager.
I explained what happened, that I made the decision and why I did that, and her reaction to it. I also explained that zippy is not a manager, and is in janitorial, so she also has no say in this department.
She wasn't thrilled to hear any of this, and had a talk with zippy.
Ok, great, get back to work. Ten minutes later the manager for janitorial, a really good friend of mine, walks in.
""Op, I need to talk with you right now, this is serious. I know you like to mix chemicals, but zippy just told me she saw you mixing alcohol with our cleaning solution, and that's a huge no no, we've had this talk before."
"What? That never happened, like I was there when we discovered the tainted chemicals, but I never mixed them."
"Zippy said she saw you get into the supply and mix it up.... Why would she lie about that?"
"Oh! That's easy. I reported her to the night manager for trying to tell me how to run my kitchen and cussing me out in front of customers."
"WHAT!?!"
the ice cream story was retold, and she was.... Unhappy, to say the least. . "So.... I'm not in trouble, but my weirdly psychotic coworker might be getting a write up, or at the very least a severe ass ripping.
As I said before, I'm not even mad at her she pulls this shit but is so incompetent that she just fucks it up on the execution. It's cute in it's own fucking retarded way. I've worked with her for four years now, and she's an acquired taste to be sure.
Edit: holy shit there's a lot to talk about. So I'm going to answer some comments that I thought were worth answering.
  1. "You used the word retard, that's an ableist slur"
Yes, it is. I have a laundry list of mental illnesses including a nonverbal learning disability, ADHD, autism, and PTSD. I've been called a retard many times throughout my life, and I choose to use the word to refer to other things and situations (never people) as a way to make the slur describe something other than myself.
  1. "The condescension in the first paragraph is so thick, I decided to side with zippy and didn’t read the rest."
Okay boomer.
  1. "More stories about zippy?!?!"
Sure, I'll post more when I'm not busy. She's quite possibly the most deranged individual here, but you'll also need to be introduced to Jailbird, nosey, yawn, chong, and la pollo loca
  1. "Do you work at ____?"
Do you want more stories? Please don't guess. I still work here and I don't want my boss to find out my nickname for him is "Elk Daddy"
  1. "Update?"
This happened yesterday, I came in and spoke to both of my bosses about her. They both seemed really tired, probably because one worked 12 hours yesterday and the other was definitely done with her shit.
I also saw my neighbor, her boss, we hugged, she said she'd take care of it.
So... Yeah, that's that. This has been really funny for me because everyone in the comments is like "oh my god you need to report this, what the hell?!?!"
And I'm just like "yeahhhh that's zippy." I've talked to the appropriate people, it's been taken care of.

2024.05.13 07:20 exsapphi The Global Rise of Anti-Homelessness Sentiment

The past twenty years has seen a rise in anti-homelessness measures across the US and Europe. Infrastructure installed ranges from annoying but seemingly benign seat seperators to the much more sinister anti-sleeping AND sitting spikes, in what is now called Hostile Architecture.

Though Modern In Design, Hostile Architecture Has A Long and Dark History

Although the term "hostile architecture" is recent, the use of civil engineering to achieve social engineering) is not: antecedents include 19th century urine deflectors and urban planning in the United States designed for segregation. American urban planner Robert Moses designed a stretch of Long Island Southern State Parkway with low stone bridges so that buses could not pass under them. This made it more difficult for people who relied on public transportation, mainly African Americans, to visit the beach that wealthier car-owners could visit. Outside of the United States, public space design change for the purpose of social control also has historic precedent: the narrow streets of 19th century Paris, France were widened to help the military quash protests.
Its modern form is derived from the design philosophy crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED), which aims to prevent crime or protect property through three strategies: natural surveillance, natural access control, and territorial enforcement. According to experts, exclusionary design is becoming increasingly common. Nowdays you can also see such ideals incorporated in migrant detention facilities like the Bibby barge.

The US Legal Push

Numerous anti-homeless laws are being passed across the US as funding for social services is widely reduced, raising welfare concerns among advocates for the unhoused. In Missouri, a new state law that took effect on 1 January makes it a crime for any person to sleep on state property. For unhoused people, sleeping in public parks or under city highways could mean up to $750 in fines or 15 days in prison for multiple offenses. As the law goes into effect, state funding for homeless services in Missouri have decreased, as well as changes to other possible funding streams.
Cities across the country have seen a backlash to attempts by officials to remove homeless encampments or limit where unhoused people can camp. In August, the Los Angeles city council voted to ban homeless encampments within 500ft of schools and daycares, an extension of the city’s anti-camping law that has enabled police to sweep encampments, reported Spectrum News 1. The ordinance passed as a federal program that moved homeless people into hotels during the Covid-19 pandemic ended.
Protesters marched through the downtown Chicago area in November to protest against the city’s announcement that donated winterized tents for homeless people had to be removed for street cleaning, reported the Chicago Tribune. The city later confirmed that the tents did not have to be taken down, but could be moved.
Under the New York mayor, Eric Adams, who is entering the second year of his four-year tenure, city officials outlawed houseless people from sleeping on the city’s subway system or riding the trains all night. New York City police also increased arrests within the transit system, with over 400 people arrested for “being outstretched” last year, according to New York police department statistics, reported Gothamist. But the city’s budget passed in June cuts spending on homelessness services from $2.8bn to $2.4bn, with the drop in funding coming from a decrease in federal Covid-19 aid, reported City Limits.
Adams has also ordered police and first responders to hospitalize more unhoused people that appear to be in a “psychiatric crisis”, even if the hospitalization is involuntary and a person does not pose a danger to themselves.
Last September, California’s Governor Gavin Newson signed a law that would force people with certain mental health conditions to comply with treatment if first responders, family members, or others ask a judge, reported the Associated Press.
Portland’s mayor, Ted Wheeler, announced during a business forum last December that he supports lowering the threshold to involuntarily hospitalize unhoused people, reported Oregon Public Broadcasting.
On March 14, the Kentucky Senate Judiciary Committee voted to approve HB 5, the “Safer Kentucky Act.” The legislation will now head to the Senate floor for a vote, and it will almost certainly pass. The 78-page bill criminalizes homelessness—and decriminalizes the use of deadly force against individuals engaging in “unlawful camping.”

But Fascism???

You decide.
From 1920 to the early forties in Germany, people experiencing homelessness and other economic hardships were the unfortunate subjects of an evolving strain of thought. An economic downturn resulted in increasing unemployment and a surge in the number of people subjected to chronic homelessness. Further downturn at the end of that decade and the later wartime boom—with another surge in unemployment followed by near full employment—created the conditions for heightened hostility towards an identifiable group. Those who suffered homelessness were classified as vagrants, tramps, and beggars. Legislators placed these classifications in laws and civil ordinances, along with scientific bigotry that characterized societal failures as the consequence of inferior genetics. Those who were sufficiently unable to find work in a post-war recession found themselves classified as "work-shy." Any resistance to the social and political goals of the Nazi party were demonized as harmful to the nation through genetic and cultural or spiritual degradation. When the production efforts of World War II were in full swing, the Nazis characterized unemployed and the homeless as enemies of the party's efforts—and thus enemies of the nation.
Through these economic downturns and wartime production boom, society clamored for greater regulation of the homeless population. The population was sporadically defined as the unsheltered, at times "disruptive" beggars, and at times all itinerant people. Society here means the layperson, local and national government officials, and academic figures in many fields—primarily the medical profession. What began as a stated desire to track the services and lodging accessed by the homeless population devolved into calls for lifetime imprisonment and sterilization. That first impulse was not benevolent in any sense, and it grew out of an attempt to blame the most vulnerable in society for problems at a societal scale.
By 1933, urban and communal authorities were unable to pay benefits to their residents, and so sought to exclude people from collecting payments. The unhoused were forced to stay mobile, moving from town to town in search of work and accommodations. Insufficient aid allowed political factions to jockey for the support of this population. Nazis courted the homeless population with propaganda only to abandon them upon the acquisition of power. By august of that year, the Nazis issued propaganda guidelines to the press regarding the homeless population and the Reich Ministry of Propaganda's desire for a nationwide swoop. Where Nazis had released the novel The Road to Hitler in the beginning of the year to gain the support of the unhoused, by august the Nazis were instructing the press on the "psychological importance of a planned campaign against the nuisance of begging . . . Beggars often force their poverty upon people in the most repulsive way for their own selfish purposes. If this sight disappears from the view of foreigners as well, the result will be a definite feeling of relief and liberation." The contempt in this statement is obvious, and the culture that fostered it is exemplified by the case of Hamburg.
In 1933, as the depression worsened, some 1,400 unhoused were arrested in the aforementioned national sweep. Of those, 108 were placed into a home for the destitute in Farmsen. The rest were freed or placed into recently-closed penal institutions. In 1934, a measure was added to the criminal code that allowed for indefinite internment for those sentenced to workhouses for a second time. The unhoused of Hamburg were required to collect their benefits at a centralized office, rather than at local welfare offices. In a culture of scant and worsening benefits, the homeless population was subjected to further deprivation.
In numerous places, officials evinced a desire to make life difficult for the unhoused--and any who would claim benefits--to save money and cull the population of undesirables. In 1935, the Homelessness and Vagrancy Department was given purview over the Romani and Sinti people, and in 1937 it was given control over 'anti-social' elements. Both categories contained many unhoused people who faced inordinate bigotry. Other departments were set up to reduce the number of single males claiming support and to deal with Jewish recipients of welfare in a move that presaged later genocidal efforts.
In 1936 and 1937, unmarried male claimants were ordered to appear at the Central Railway Station, at which point they were delivered to a labor camp. Any who did not volunteer for this were ineligible for benefits. On the question of excluding people from benefits, Nazis adopted the Vagrants' Registration Book in 1933 to track the movements and benefits claims of the unhoused. The aim of removing the "work-shy, chronically ill, and infirm" was served by the maintenance of local registries and the threat of arrest for who those who did not opt to carry the registration book. In 1937, Registration Books were confiscated from those deemed "unfit for the nomadic life", and such persons were confined to an institution. Further restrictions on the issuance of the book were implemented in 1938, and by the outbreak of war in 1939 vagrancy had been outlawed wholesale.
It must be stated that Georg Steigertahl and the Social Welfare Authority had created the mechanism for mass internment before the Nazis seized power, motivated by a eugenicist desire to remove 'anti-social elements' from the population. By 1936, 922 people were incarcerated throughout Hamburg—mostly in Farmsen—commensurate with paragraph 13 of the Reich Code of Practice for the Reich Decree on Welfare Obligations: "the work-shy and those who behave in a non-economic way could be denied all forms of benefit except indoor relief." Indoor relief here refers to compulsory internment. It suffices to say that a confluence of eugenicist efforts and anti-homeless sentiment made convenient by economic struggle lead to the imprisonment and death of many. "Vagrancy" and "work-shy" were taken to be the consequences of genetics, after all.

2024.05.13 05:45 raelyn4183 AITA for wasting three years of my life just to have a judge tell my sister theft is wrong?

I am the oldest of three sisters, and our parents weren't ever really well off or well prepared for anything. In 2014 we lost our mother suddenly due to complications from a hospital procedure. We were utterly devastated and caught off guard. Mom had no will or final arrangements planned. Dad refused to handle her final arrangements due to being separated for decades. No problem, we respected his wishes.
Our middle sister took it upon herself to handle everything and I do mean EVERYTHING. And she was super controlling about it all and me or my younger sister never knew half the shady stuff she did during that time til years later.
Fast forward, our Dad passes away a month before my wedding. Hubby and I are financially strapped and emotionally devastated cause I had my heart on having him walk me down the aisle. Instead we have to plan a funeral a month before my wedding day. This is also during COVID.
I INSIST on the three of us being involved together. We agree middle sister will handle the planning since she has experience but this time we want all three of us involved in the final arrangements. Middle sister was livid. She didn't want us involved. She kept starting drama the days following and eventually she gets caught in a lie about how much money was in dad's bank account and all the other dominos start to fall as me and little sister start seeing holes in her story.
After not trusting her anymore me and younger sister went and started the legal process for surrogate court and as oldest to be legal admin of his estate. Middle sister went absolute ape shit.
Come to find out she had started draining his bank account illegally the day after he died without informing the bank of his passing. She was trying to drain the account to lie about his available money so the county would pay for his funeral and she'd get to keep the money. While trying to ask me and little sister for a third of the same cost she was trying to get the county to pay instead. She lied to the funeral home and said she had power of attorney when she didn't and when we insisted on a new contract being signed for all three to cover the final expenses she was furious we refused to give her control. We also told her if she didn't deposit the stolen money back into his account we'd ask the bank to press fraud charges. And other various things she stole over time.
Eventually after being awarded admin a few months later she refused to respect the courts order and turn over our father's belongings to be split fairly between the three of us. Among so many other things. It ended up escalating to me and little sister taking middle sister to court for the stolen property.
Three years later she expected the judge to side with her and some doctored papers she claimed were a will for her to have a brand new four wheeler Dad had bought after she loaned him nearly 10k for it. She wanted to keep the wheeler AND have the unpaid loan balance paid by Dad's estate - ie me and little sister. The judge said nah.
Eventually she got to keep the wheeler cause they fronted the money for the loan which was fine. But everything else she tried to get, the judge basically laughed her out of court. When it was over and done she tried to come after me and little sister again for "wasting three years of her life" and a third of the money that had been in Dad's account when he died.
Money that got eaten up by the funeral costs that got reimbursed to little sister after she paid upfront to have him created and I reimbursed her once surrogate court gave me LEGAL access to his account. Money that was further eaten up by the court fees for three years cause she refused to give us Dad's papers and property for finalizing his estate.
All she ended up getting was $80 (just like the three of us) when she expected over $1000. Which is why she then tried to tell surrogate court I didn't do things properly and stole money. Surrogate court ALSO sent her packing. Because I had an extremely detailed accounting if every penny spent with receipts to back them up.
So AITA for having a judge out my greedy sister in her place?

2024.05.13 05:26 Suitable-Yoghurt7379 Giving up riding horses

For as long as I can remember, I've had a passion for riding horses. At 16, I made my dream come true by buying a horse, truck, and trailer, and I loved every moment of it. I traveled to barrel races all over, but. At this point in my life, I'm considering quitting horses altogether. Riding, which used to bring me so much joy, now feels like a chore. Taking care of my horse has become more of a burden than a pleasure.
Moreover, I still live at home, and I dream of one day owning my own place. However, with the responsibilities of caring for horses, that dream seems out of reach. Not to mention the amount of money I would have if I didn’t have vet bills, hay, feed, farrier, etc. I also could sell my horse for enough to buy several nice dirt bikes or a four-wheeler or Sxs probably even enough to buy a few acres of land. I just worry I am making a bad decision. Has anyone ever been in this situation before?
I'm contemplating exploring other hobbies, and I've been thinking about trying dirt biking. We live just eight miles away from a 6,000-acre dirt bike, four-wheeler, SXS, and camping area. Plus, my dad is a mechanic, so it seems like dirt biking could be a more affordable option while still providing me with something exciting to do.

2024.05.12 23:15 K_italknow Would u rather trust a driver who has had accidents or a driver who never had any accidents?

The tagline says it all. So me and my partner, was talking about driving and accidents. I have never drove a four wheeler and my partner is a car freak. I mean he love cars and driving is passion. They have had accidents on two wheelers. Got the license and almost 15 years of driving experience And i never had any experience driving a four wheeler. We were havin a conversation about accidents. And during one part of conversation I said one should never forget that u r on road and thats why most people meet with accidents. my partner said accident is called accident for a reason. And they said they would rather trust someone who had got accidents than a driver who had Never had one.
I have no clue how to understand this logic. Maybe they are right. U guys would knw it better than me anywayyy.

I’m 19 and looking into getting a dual sport motorcycle. What’s a good bike for me to start with? I grew up riding four wheelers and dirt bikes but it’s been a long time and don’t wanna dive in too deep.

2024.05.12 19:27 Much-Country-8015 Cop in dug out

FOUR WHEELERS, IF YOU ARE PASSING ME ON THE LEFT AND THERES A COP POSTED UP ON THE MEDIAN YOU DONT HAVE TO MOVE OVER. Some of you move over then slam on your brakes and go slower than me and i jump in the left lane and pass you because of your stupidity. The cop CAN pull you over for reckless driving and improper lane change or just driving suspicious because you look like you are hiding something. You dont think that cop saw you a mile away doing 73 in a 65? If they wanted to pull you over they wouldve already been in position to pull out after you. JUST DRIVE DICK HEAD. Ik some 4 wheelers are in here so hopefully they see it. Enjoy your Sunday truckers

2024.05.12 19:05 EloBean81 Creepy voice calling out to us

So about four years ago, me and my cousin ( both female) were riding around our grandparents property on a four wheeler at night, about 8 or 9 o’clock. My grandparents have a house in the middle of an opening in the woods, but it’s not too far into the woods, and not far from civilization. Just a lot of land and the house is completely surrounded by trees and a pretty large area of woods where we often explore and hunt in. Anyway, we had been riding around for quite some time, and we were getting ready to go back inside. But we started to hear this low whistling, it sounded like a bird but not nearly as high pitched, but still very loud, as we could hear it over the four wheelers engine. I didn’t think much of it and didn’t even say anything about it to my cousin, as I didn’t want to make it a bigger deal than it was. But then it all of a sudden got much louder, it was almost a soothing kinda whistling but very eerie. At that point I asked my cousin if she was hearing it, and she said yes. So I pulled right into my grandparents driveway, in front of the garage, that was open btw, and turned the four wheeler off to try and hear the whistling clearer. Not a second later, a voice from behind us, though I’m not sure in which direction exactly, called to us in a soothing voice saying, “heeeey giiiirls” it was long a drawn out, in a low but loud voice. It was clear and crisp. Could not be mistaken. I say I don’t know which direction it came from, mostly because it was so loud that it seemed to be from all sides of us. We looked at each other in terror and I nearly fell trying to get off the four wheeler. We ran inside without ever looking back, though part of kinda wishes I had. It’s hard to explain exactly what it sounded like, but to this day it runs chills down my spine. No one really believes us about this but we have no reason to lie. The sheer terror in our eyes should have been enough to prove we were telling the truth. But I share this here in hopes that if someone has a similar experience, we may connect the dots. I don’t have many scary stories to tell, I have a couple, but none come close to this.

Hatching some babies, need help ^_^!!!
Earlier today I was on a walk in my woods and I spotted a frog spawn completely far away from any pond, nearest body of water there was a muddy puddle that people drove over with four wheelers. Since I hadn’t hatched frogs since I was like 6 I wanted to try and help these lil’ guys at home! I’ll also mention they were oddly firm. Most frog spawn I’ve felt were loose and jiggly, these jiggled but kinda felt like the top of a jellyfish, very firm., I’ll be honest I’m kinda just hatching these baby’s as an experiment lesser because they were on the verge of death. ANYWAYS, do these look okay? I really can’t tell. I’m no expert and google hasn’t given me shit for awnser. Someone give me pointers. Also PS. I’m sorry if I’ve done something wrong by taking these, I tried googling if it’s unethical to try and hatch them and didn’t find much. If someone lets me know it’s rlly bad I’ll just find a good pond spot for them <3

2024.05.11 13:34 Docspride Heading to Red Lodge, MT

Family of four (no small kids)and we are coming from SWFL. My daughter graduated last weekend from UF, and has also just received an offer of exceptence letter to attend medical school in Billings. We have only one day 5/17 at the school for the meet and greet, but after we have 7 days and nights to cram with as much outdoor as we can squeeze in. We enjoy in FL; riding 4 wheelers, hunting wild hogs from large tractor tire buggies at night with thermal gear, and dogs, we also have a small fishing cabin in Everglades City, Fl. In the middle of the 10,000 islands national park that at times some of the finest inshore saltwater fishing slams. I’m also that dad that fixes almost everything that breaks down here at the house or at the barn. I bitch and moan about fixing crap too but don’t you dare call anyone. The bitching and moaning is all part of the repair process as passed on to me lol yep I’m imperfect!
I tell y’all all of this so if/when you respond you’ll kinda know I’m not the hire a guide to hunt fossil sorta guy, but I’m gonna need help to pull off something huge for our daughter and try to make it a surprise too. My daughter doesn’t know I’ve extended the stay into a “congratulation/vacation/celebration for her”. She thinks we are flying into Billings 5/17 and back home 5/19 after meeting with the medical school administrators/staff. Casi has talked about fossil hunting in MT ever since she did an extensive research report in high school maybe a bit earlier. An older neighbor couple of ours grew up in Billings, and then moved to Idaho, before retiring in Florida and they shared some of their fossil finds over the years from the family’s ranch with her when she was working on the report.
So far I’m renting a truck like mine (only cleaner I hope) 3/4 ton and 4x4. I didn’t think I wanted a city (Billings) for 9 nights so I rented a home in Red Lodge, only because it looked cool on YouTube and isn’t crazy populated either, and then I was freaking sold (reel me in because they could have been more per day and I would still be all in) when I reserved a 1000cc 6 seat UTV that you can just drive from the power sports store in Red Loge to the rental house on the paved roads and then go hit the trails and keep it for a few days before returning it. It’s just like being home only cold and with the exception of driving off a huge mountain if you decide to be stupid.
I’m 61 and feeling great this morning and Im hoping to make this trip the trip of a lifetime for us all, but I need y’all’s help filling the days and nights with genuine or unique experiences there in Montana. I’m aware due to my lack of knowledge of the area and the lack of lead time that this will not be an inexpensive endeavor but lifetime memories made for us all is really cool to me. Thanks for reading my novella lol and yup I talk a lot too.
and of course I know this isn’t normal or isn’t to me for sure but for our baby girl I figured I had to see if I could get help pulling this off.

2024.05.11 02:25 Funny-Buddy-3952 I hate my life

Shorter version: I am a gay 20 year old guy who is not out and don't feel like I can be because of the people I have been around and my job. I own a house I can barely afford and don't even like that much at all. I have pushed away all my friends and feel I lack the self confidence and personality to make new friends.
I (M20) have been struggling with my mental health for a long time. I always chased after different things that I thought may make me more confident or feel better about myself but it never seems to work. I am gay but I've only felt safe enough to come out to a few people. My parents divorced when I was 12 and I lived with my mom in a rental house on a farm. I kind of developed a close relationship with the landlord (who Ill call A) and over the years he thought of me sort of as a son. He bought me several things including vehicles and four wheelers and such, which in turn made me feel like I could not let him down in a way. Although he was a pretty good guy he would make some homophobic comments which made me feel like I couldn't let him know I was gay. I tried to distance myself slightly from the relationship but my mom (who drank every night to the point she was very drunk) forced the relationship harder for me. She would make me feel bad about not wanting to spend time with him, and I never felt close enough to her (especially after the divorce and her also making me feel bad for wanting a relationship with my biological father, which overtime fell apart on its own.
In my high school years I wasn't too sure what I wanted to do career wise but I knew I didn't wanna go into blue collar work because of the physical toll on your body and a lot of the people are not the kind I wanted to be surrounded by. I had expressed that to A, and he didn't really have much against it but I didn't know what I wanted to do and he did not like that fact. I didn't feel like college was for me at the time because I didn't have a set thing I wanted to go for, and my goal was to start a business, most likely landscaping as I had a lawn mower and did a few lawns at the time. I felt like my confidence in starting a business and myself was talked out of me by myself but also because I never had any who I felt fully supported me. Once I was done with high school A was heavy on me that I needed to get a job which I didn't have anything against really but I didn't know what I wanted to do. He would "give me shit" that I was lazy or he needed to "put a boot up my ass" until one day when I got a phone call from an unknown number. It was a local business owner who got my phone number from A and wanted to offer me a job. Despite not really wanting to I ended up taking it since I didn't really have much else going and I felt like if I had said no A would have been on me even more and upset.
it was always kind of my goal to buy a house to get away from my mother who I felt was overbearing and A who made me feel like I couldn't be myself. after a year and a half of working there I was able to buy a house. Going into the home buying process I wanted to buy a multi family home and "house hack" to keep my monthly expenses low and in turn be able to quit the job I hated and figure out what I wanted to do, possibly take on a job that payed a little lower. A didn't think I could look at the houses myself so he insisted on tagging along with me. I used a realtor who was A's daughter's best friend (who happened to be gay)'s mom. without fail, on the way to or from every house we looked at he made a comment to me about the fact my realtor's son was gay. That made me feel even more pressured to buy a house and I ended up spending more than I had wanted to after losing 5 offers prior to that.
I have felt a great shame in myself since for buying THIS house. on top of hardly having any extra money to save after paying all my bills, I live across the road from one of my coworker's brother which makes me feel like I can't have any guys over because he may find out I'm gay which would be bad for me at my job (I feel). I have thought about getting a second job just to be able to save money or help pay this house down but I don't even have the energy by the time I am done with my current job.
I had a car which was the only thing left that brought me any joy because it was pretty decent, fairly cheap and got good gas mileage but I crashed it a couple months ago. since I have been driving my truck which cost a lot in fuel and has issues. I want to get rid of it but if I decided to trade it in I would get nothing and if I sold it privately I would obviously need another vehicle to drive first. I can't stand the thought of another payment and don't have any money to buy anything decent.
I have pushed almost everyone away and I hate it but I don't have much energy to make new relationships or rekindle my old ones. I want to sell my house so bad but I can't afford to. I want to quit my job but I don't know how I could make the same money (in order to pay my bills) outside of the work I'm in. I want make new friends and relationships but my lack of self confidence and having hid my self for so long and even more so since getting my job makes that very hard for me. I am a decently attractive guy and Snapchat other guys around me and many have wanted to meet but I always make excuses to cover up my lack of confidence.
I am no where near the place I thought I would be in high school and I feel like I am in a miserable position. I don't even feel like I can talk to anyone. Again, since the divorce I haven't felt that close with my family (such as my moms side, or 2/3 of my sisters because they always talked bad about my father and the fact I wanted to have a relationship with him [which in the beginning he did too until I would 'let' my mom not see him]) One of my sisters knows I am gay and I am very close with her but she joined the army 5 months ago so I haven't really been able to talk to her and its not the same for me anyway since I can't hang out with her. I don't feel like I can tell my online gay friends that I'm not out because I feel like they will look down at me for not being out at 20.
I don't want to harm myself but I am so tired and over my life.
I dont expect anyone to read this but if you did thank you. I know I jumped around a lot and may not have made sense in some places but I needed to get a lot of this off my chest.
