2024.04.28 19:03 JayJay_Abudengs I've missed out on 10 years of gaming and am unsure what do play

Hey guys.
I've used a Mac for 10 years, now I got myself a Windows laptop again. I have no clue on what do play now.
I've played some games with Geforce Now like Baldurs Gate 3, or with bootcamp (windows VM for Mac) like MGS V, I've watched some let's plays like the first few hours of FF7 Remake and RDR2, but I'm still totally clueless on what I should play now.
I've heard Final Fantasy XIV is supposed to be good, I'd love to play a good multiplayer game. A friend of mine plays Palworld, others are into Lethal Company. What do you people think?

Hi. I have the Xbox Series X Lunar Shift Special Edition, and it has been a great controller. However, my right bumper recently gave out and it will need replacing.
I have done 2 bumper replacements in the past, but both times, the part I ordered off of Amazon was a cheap piece of plastic, and it was not nearly as functional as the original. The bumpers of the original controller have a nice matted feel to them. Has anyone found a quality set of replacement bumpers that feel similar to the originals at all?

Hi, everyone~! I hope you’re doing well and having a good day~
The game I’d like to request is Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. It is a remaster of the fourth game in the series, as well as its world-wide debut since the original was previously never released outside of Japan.
If you’re unfamiliar with the series, Fatal Frame is a Japanese survival horror series where the protagonist can seal away and defeat ghosts by using the Camera Obscura.
Why this game?
I’ve never actually played a Fatal Frame game before, but I’ve always wanted to. It might seem a bit weird to start at the fourth entry, but this game is supposed to take place before the events of the other games, so there’s no worry about missing anything or spoiling anything from the first three installments.
I’ve always loved horror, especially Japanese style horror. I grew up on horror games, with my favourites being others in the survival horror genre such as Silent Hill, Haunting Ground, and Siren. From what I’ve seen of this game, the atmosphere seems incredible. The characters and environment are beautiful, the corridors are dark and narrow, and the ghosts look spooky. What little I know about the story is very interesting to me, especially since I've heard the story for this game was really good. I’m most interested in using the Camera Obscura though. Most survival horror games either use guns or have no form of combat at all, so I think using the camera is such a fun and interesting twist.
Why can’t I buy it?
I got laid off from my job last year. I searched for one unsuccessfully for a while, but had to stop my search to become a full-time caretaker for my grandma. I did apply for a program to get paid to be her caretaker, but they said the waitlist to get approved was really long, so I haven’t heard anything back yet. I don’t have much time to game during the day since I’m busy with her, so that means the majority of my time gaming will be at night once she’s gone to bed. Perfect time for a horror game :)

Vampyrapods are the first intelligent species to live on this planet predating the dinosaurs. They came here somehow. They did not evolve on this planet. Perhaps just an ejaculated sperm from another being landing in the water. The direct offspring of this cephalapod is the modern octopus. Octopus are responsible for nearly every animal genesis on earth including humans and subsequently man made inventions and accomplishments. Octopus taught trees to fruit, destroyed the dinosaurs through becoming tapeworms, and even walked to the moon. Some of the animals you may recognize from the cellular genesis may have fused with the other local staples such as canine, equine, and feline, and reptile as well as temporarily the pachyderms in post-actualization causal genesis. This can be done by mating with, killing, eating, dying, being eaten, or simply a laying of hands or physical actions. Octopus only live for about 4.5 years of our relationship with time, but they have beaten death through a mix of telepathy and cannabalism. They've also mastered time travel. There are only 3 actual beings here. Others died in getting here and are fossilized. 2 males and 1 female survived. I call them Jack, Seth, and Claire. This is why the genesis had to completed this way as any direct offspring would not work. because theyve have infinite time to complete it, theyve walked over every inch of the planet and affected every species. In fact our own existence is simply the echo of the combined knowledge of the cephs. We are an amalgamation like the 'too much good stuff' guy from am/pm commercials. Make a bird with your hands. ¿Where are the beaks? The latest project is to use genetic science in order to bring back the mammoth and obtain a sixth digit from its feet. Should happen around 2027. When the vampyrapods first encountered life here it was eating their tentacles. So the first genesis occured in the offspring of those that ate of the tentacles. This is why modern cephs only have 8 limbs. The first language period is Enochian. A language of the eyes and limbs. Through different manipulation of limbs and eye fluctuations communication was made. After a while though telepathy became the established communication.
Here are some examples but not all of cephalapod genesis:

Ceph hung from a tree upside down) • Star fruit (the tree missed the octopus and tempted it to return) • Pinecone ( the bite marks of ceph beak eating the fruit of the trees) • Toucan (the beak formation from ceph in flux probably consuming a failed aviary) • Peacock (feather formations still in flux from limbs partial fusion) • Salamander (reptile/chameleon mix) (skin breathing evolution) •Sloth (feline and foilage mix) • Mistletoe bird (octopus ate a mushroom) • Lyrebird (mirage, digitage, and aviary from peacock and pheasant. Mastered the art of sound mimickry to develop better auditory communications) • Dung beetle (rolling backwards the earth through time) • VW bug (trunk up front) (mirage, digitage, pachyderm mix) (invented higher than the model T but arrived later in time) • Goliath bird-eating tarantula ( set a web to catch a bird which did not exist fully until the web was cast. When the spider consumed the bird the psuedo cannabalistic action resulted in a poison tree frog) • Snakes (a ceph lost its mating limb for some reason in a mirage mix experiment) • venemous snakes (a snake ate the eggs of its own offspring)(the cursed dinosaur souls live inside these) • Gumby (using hands to mold clay made a show about being an octopus) • Chameleon (reptile, ceph, foilage, mirage mix)(a ceph was purposely eaten by a komodo dragon to telepathically send a reverse osmosis of its makeup inside its body to another ceph that was attempting to kill the dinosaurs in the past. So recently, my mind has been constantly thinking about some idea for a book series I came up with just a few days ago, and so I decided to actually see how you guys think of it. So the idea is: The world of Two is split into 2 equal sides, one is covered in eternal night, and the other in eternal day. Each side is inhabited by a single race; On the nighttime side (which is just called 'Starey') they have the Nighters, and on the daytime side (which is just called 'Sunblaze') they have the Dayers. Horrible names, I know, but its only temporary (u guys could give me some ideas lol.) So in Starey the Nighters have the moon, which gives them cool lunar-like powers and abilities. And in Sunblaze, the Dayers have the.. well, sun, which gives them solar-like powers and abilities. And the 2 equal sides are split by a magical border called the 'Twilight Barrier.' And the book series would be about like an offspring of a forbidden, not-done-before love between a Nighter and a Dayer. This offspring would have both lunar and solar powers and abilities. And so far the name of the protagonist (the offspring) is 'Dusk.' And you can imagine why I use the word 'dusk' in all this. Anyway, here is a concept prologue:
Age of the Duskers
Prologue:
As the stars started to twinkle into view on Starey, Madame Merlin--the fortuneteller of Bellowgate, one of the seven civilizations of Starey--stared into the distance, where the legendary Twilight Barrier lied. Its high and majestic walls of a silver-like material shimmering in the moonlight and starlight. Madame Merlin looked, just over the top of the Twilight Barrier, she could see the bright sunlight on the other side of the beautiful barricade. Of course, the sunlight was constantly being magically stopped at the Twilight Barrier, so it couldn't reach the Starey side.
The world of Two was split into two separate halves, one of dark night, that being Starey, and one for bright day, that being Sunblaze. And the two halves of the world was divided by a mystical barrier, that is called the Twilight Barrier. Madame Merlin's hometown, Bellowgate, was just on the edge of the Twilight Barrier in the world half of Starey. And each side had a single race: Starey had the Nighters, and Sunblaze had the Dayers.
As Madame Merlin continued to stare at the silvery barricade, she felt a tap on her shoulder. She instantly came back to reality and looked back of her, then making a sigh of relief as she saw who the person who tapped her was. It was her friend she was supposed to meet up there; Nicolas.
Nicolas had a dark skin tone, contrasted by silver streaks along his body--a custom for people of Starey--white hair, and a strange lightning white light in his eyes. Nicolas was Madame Merlin's assistant fortuneteller in Bellowgate, and he was very good at his job. He sat down beside Madame Merlin and began speaking. "Merlin, you wanted to see me?" Nicolas asked. "Yes," began Madame Merlin. "I did. I've sent you here to meet so I can tell you something very important. I will be escaping Starey." Nicolas' eyes widened with surprise. His mind went rapid. Again? Are you serious? She can't be possibly trying again after what happened last time... "But why? Don't you remember last time you tried?" he asked. "Yes. Very much so. But this won't be the last time, this time I won't be sent to the Lunar Dungeons." began Madame Merlin once more. "This time, unlike last time, have successfully required a new power."
In the world of Starey and Sunblaze, each of the two races had special abilities. In Starey, the Nighters had lunar powers, given to them by their eternal moon. And in Sunblaze, the Dayers had solar-like polars, given to them by their eternal sun.
Fifteen years ago, when Madame Merlin was just thirty-four years old, she tried to require a lunar ability called 'Startouch' from a mystical gemstone called the 'Luna Apex,' sense it is the only thing she required to help her go beyond the infamously unpassable Twilight Barrier. But when she tried, she failed, and so afterwards when she tried going beyond the mystical barricade without Startouch she was unsuccessful, being caught by Starey guards and sent into the foreboding depths of the Lunar Dungeons, the prison of bad people of Starey. But after five years of her sentence, she was finally released. And now she plans to finally escape Starey so she can complete her goal once and for all; reunite with her lover, a Dayer.

I used to really love reading romance novels when I was a teenager, but adulthood took away a lot of my free time and then other hobbies got in the way. I recently started getting back into reading. A good friend of mine has been recommending book series like Mafia Wars, Lunar Bride, Baton Rouge Vampire, Dark Fables: Vicious Faeries, and Stoneridge University.
I liked most of them, but I think her tastes are a little too spicy for me. Like Stoneridge, for example, was very triggering and I had to put it down after a few chapters. I do like romance and smut fiction, but I prefer romantic content that's on the sweeter side. I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for maybe a historical romance with an arranged situation, maybe enemies to lovers without such heavy degradation as the previous books, or a more Tristan and Isolde type of forbidden romance.
Big bonus if the heroine is in their later twenties to early thirties. In 95A (1860), Max Muller gave a series of Lectures on the Science of Language, at the Royal Society of London, after being asked to speak about the “comparative philology” several times prior.
His lecture #9, was on the “origin of language“, as follows:

Science name?
In his opening section (pgs. 3-4), Muller speaks on the new science of language and its various terms employed to defined this new field:
The Science of Language is a science of very modern date. We cannot trace its lineage much beyond the beginning of our century, and it is scarcely received as yet on a footing of equality by the elder branches of learning. Its very name is still unsettled, and the various titles that have been given to it in England, France, and Germany are so vague and varying that they have led to the most confused ideas among the public at large as to the real objects of this new science.
We hear it spoken of as Comparative Philology, Scientific Etymology, Phonology, and Glossology. In France it has received the convenient, but somewhat barbarous, name of Linguistique.
If we must have a Greek title for our science, we might derive it either from mythos, word, or from logos, speech. But the title of Mythology is already occupied, and Logology would jar too much on classical ears.
We need not waste our time in criticising these names, as none of them has as yet received that universal sanction which belongs to the titles of other modern sciences, such as Geology or Comparative Anatomy; nor will there be much difficulty in christening our young science after we have once ascertained its birth, its parentage, and its character. I myself prefer the simple designation of the Science of Language, though in these days of high-sounding titles, this plain name will hardly meet with general acceptance.
Wiktionary gives the following etymo of linguistics, stating that it was coined in 118A (1837) by William Whewell:
From linguist +‎ -ics, akin to linguistic and Latin linguisticus, coined by English polymath William Whewell in 118A (1837) from German Linguistik.
It seems, accordingly, that the title of ”linguistics” later became the finalized term in English, in the decades to follow.
Egyptian language
Muller (pg. 9) mentions Egyptian as follows:
I may observe by the way that the hieroglyphic signs of our modern prescriptions have been traced back by Champollion to the real hieroglyphics of Egypt (Bunsen, Egypt, volume four, pg. 108).
Here we see, in this decade, we are still in infancy as to understanding Egyptian language, which is why Muller does not ”see” the connection as we do now.
Comparative grammar
In lecture #4 (pg. 201), Muller opens to the following, wherein he says that Sanskrit, Greek, and Latin originated from a common “Aryan type”, but diverging from some type of laws of phonetic decay:
“The genealogical classification of the Aryan languages was founded, as we saw, on a close comparison of the grammatical characteristics of each; and it is the object of such works as Franz Bopp's Comparative Grammar (103A/1852) to show that the grammatical articulation of Sanskrit, Zend, Greek, Roman, Celtic, Teutonic, and Slavonic, was produced once and for all; and that the apparent differences in the terminations of Sanskrit, Greek, and Latin, must be explained by laws of phonetic decay, peculiar to each dialect, which modified the original common Aryan type, and changed it into so many national languages.”

Whats good ladies and gentlemen, I wanted to ask what the profile of someone trying to get into TUM might be and what my chances were. Here are the stats:

1) First Lego league robotics (2017-2023)
During my FLL season I mainly focused on the mechanical and electrical systems. Our school went to the global rounds during the into orbit season. During the city shaper season (2023) I helped mentor my school robotics team
2) First global challenge robotics Singapore
During the 2023 FGC season I worked on the mechanical and electric subsystems of our robot and I was part of the marketing team as well. We came in the top 20 (number 13) teams in this season
3) World robotics Olympiad
During the 2021 WRO system I designed an automated system that would monitor and tend to plants in space based environments (specifically Mars) with an emphasis on control systems and actuator systems such as the bogies and other suspensions to allow the rover to move about the planet quickly
4) NASA Space apps challenge 2023
My team were the global finalists. Our system was the ZEUS (zero electricity utilisation system) that created power on Venus via INSITU resources and our concept was selected for further review
5) NASA STMD and NIAC concepts and proposals
I worked on a series of projects and missions (majority are still under development) however some of them include
Mars 2020 PIXL OBS actuator system which was an integration of the OBS system of the rover and the instrumentation of the arm, the main objective was to minimise self-interference and detection during ARM operations. During this project I worked on the pixel decoding concept of the lithography when encountering elements of the rover that may alter readings
VOS – The Venus Observatory satellite (cubesat)
This is a cubesat mission designed to study the Upper Venusian atmosphere and use a series of sensors such as spectrometers and hyperspectral imagers to get a better understanding of the planet. The satellite is also going to be hosting a deployable probe that can be launched from the cubesat via springs to conduct readings of the planets lower atmosphere to allow scientists to better understand the Venusian weather and geography. For this mission I designed the mission concept and I worked on the VAEP (Venusian atmospheric entering probe) that would be utilising and verifying key data taken by previous missions including the DaVinci and VERITAS mission
DSE – Deep space exploration satellite, (cubesat) designed to deploy a starshade in deep space to search for habitable planets in the goldilocks region via the transit. This also studies gravity waves via the geodetic effect and gravitational microlensing, this also houses a probe that will be jettison to be flown near a black hole to record quantum data via the Hawking radiation experiment. This was my mission concept and I specifically worked on the instrumentation of the geodetic effect sensors and the starshade concept
MSL/EV (aka as the SLV2 and SLV1) – Mars surface landing vehicle /exploration vehicle is a mission that makes use a lander and a rover that houses a series of payloads such as the MROV which is a ROV designed to be deployed into the oceans of Mars, this mission is proposed to land at Korolev crater with secondary payloads including the Martian volatile extraction system and biological payloads to test out if the Martian atmosphere and resources can be made into resources that biological entities such as plants can use. I specifically designed the mission concept for the BEES (biological entity experimentation system) that is the experiment housing the plant and the atmospheric volatile extraction and utilisation element (AVEs)
Experimental robotic concepts – These are a series of robotics concepts and technology demonstrations aimed at developing mission ready solutions to novel problems. Some of the concepts include the Mars ROV concept, the Venus mechanical sensor system (concept), the star shade project that also acts as a light sail to conserve propellant, the Lunar soft robotics program and other concepts that may be relevant to future mission concepts and projects
AREE automaton mechanical sensing – This is a mechanical sensing system that uses mechanical actuators to sense objects rather than electrically to allow the rover to work on the surface of Venus. I specifically worked on the mechanical engineering of the sensor and the actuators dealing with the sensing of objects
6) International Astronautical federation GLEX 2021 talk
In 2021 I gave a talk on the MSL/EV project at the IAF 2021 in Saint Petersburg Russia on one of my projects I had been working on with relation to the Mars program

In this project we designed a lunar rover that would extract volatiles that would work under specific constraints of power, cost and weight. We came number 1 in the AWS category

8) Hypersonic glide research vehicle
This is an experimental aero/space vehicle that relies on a pulse detonating engine that relies on a mixture of solid and liquid based fuels. This is a work in progress. I specifically work on the propulsion of the vehicle and I work on the scramjet and the fuel injection intake system that seeks to optimise fuel and fuse in other sources of fuels that may optimise the thrust of the craft at higher altitudes
9) Innoventures aerospace society
This is a society that I formed for my school that focuses on drones, aircraft and rockets. This society was formed in December of 2022 and has begun competing in regional rocket competitions as well as the AIAA student competitions. We work very closely with the National association of rocketry as well.
10) SFDRRWR (sensor fused dead reckoning radar warning system)
This is a concept of a sensor fused dead reckoning RWR system to be used in fighters that makes use of heat signatures and fuses it with the radar jamming capabilities of a fighter to simultaneously detect and avoid the missile via the localization of the launch time relative to the bearing to give the pilot possible options that can be verified via the on-board sensors. This concept is my system and alternative to current Fox 3 capable missile detection systems.

I’ve been part of my schools secondary band for over 4 years. I have been playing the drums ever since I was a few months old and so I’ve been the lead drummer for my school’s band whenever we have concerts or music festivals
