I’m 37 years old female, 155cm height 62kg weight, Indian origin, no international travel in the last 4 years, non smoker, social drinking 1-2 units a week but none in the recent weeks. Living in the UK for the last 10 years. I’m Non diabetic, non hyper tensive, no allergies, never undergone any medical surgeries and no other medical condition other than this.
Since 2023 I have twice had severely elevated CRP levels (both times >400mg/l) presenting meningitis/ sepsis like symptoms but without no underlying infections. Along with high CRP I have high temperature, chills, high heart rate, skin mottling, light sensitivity, vomiting , debilitating pain / reduced mobility on forearms and wrists. Inflammation levels eventually goes down with hospitalisation in acute care IV antibiotics, vit D, pain medication and magnesium. (each time 6+ days hospitalisation was required as they are unable to safely release me until inflammatory levels showed a consistently decreasing trend)
2024 hospitalisation episode placed me on sepsis watch and I was in extreme pain(upper body - restricted movement, locked jaws in addition to symptoms I experienced in 2023 - also described above such as fever chills vomiting light sensitivity followed through)
Currently I’m home it is 5+ weeks since I came back from hospital but muscle stiffness still remains, I had a rebound attack (fever, chills, skin mottling) and was again placed on 5 days antibiotics but I was able to recover at home. Currently it is more like a slow recovery. CRP although had dropped to 36mg/l 5 weeks ago.
GP is already aware and does not know what to do with me, A&E knows to contain my situation from worsening but not able to diagnose what is causing this kind of inflammatory response.
In 2023 when this happened for the first time i thought it was a one- off abnormal inflammatory response but after the second attack in April this year I’m very afraid. I tried to approach immunologists to consult but many number of them happen to be allergists and don’t take my case. Who should I approach?
I’m listing below diagnoses:
1/ tested negative for ANA, Genetic factors 2/ tested negative for rheumatoid factors (rheumatology team cleared me off any RA/ Auto immune disorders after a year long study of my test results during 2023) 3/ tested negative for lupus related diseases 4/ tested negative for myelitis although my creatine kinase levels were 18u/l as of 5 weeks ago (against normal range 20-200u/l) 5/ Globulin levels were at 41g/l as of 5 weeks ago. 6/ tested negative for a wide variety of viral and bacterial infections (including Covid, influenza, meningitis) , extensive CT and MRIs were done of abdomen, chest, pelvic and brain and nothing remarkable came up to warrant this inflammatory response.

hey yall my cat was put on urinary prescription food a few months ago after i started finding blood in her urine. my vet said i have to feed her this for her whole life, and gave me 2 options: royal canine urinary so and this virbac one i attached. i fed her the royal canine one until now since its easier to find, but after i informed myself a bit i see that the ingredients are pretty bad, lots of sugar and grains. my question is, are these ingredients better so i can maybe switch her to this? i see it has caramel, which im a bit meh about but other than they it looks okay to me

This winter, I was in a situation where I had to take a break from exercising because I got pretty sick from what I found out was a vitamin D deficiency. I am a cyclist and tennis player, and am pretty used to training pretty hard on an almost daily basis. When I had my deficiency, my sleep was destroyed among alot of other things, but now that I am mostly recovered my sleep is almost completely back to normal.
The problem is, i'm finding on days that I do any medium to hard exercise for more than an hour, I will feel amazing for the rest of the day, fall asleep easily but then wake up around 3AM feeling really hot and not able to go back to sleep. I make sure to drink alot of water during and after my exercise along with electrolytes containing around 1000mg sodium. (ive been using the trace minerals electrolyte powder that contains 1000mg sodium, some potassium and some magnesium) I know the cause should likely be electrolyte imbalance or dehydration, but I feel that I am properly compensating for this. Does anyone have an idea to what might be causing this and how I can fix it?
I have also been supplementing magnesium glycinate and malate which doesnt really have any effect on my sleep whether I take it or not.

Key question for my fellow Reddit users (in hope Tawinn reads my post):
  1. What are your thoughts on my "6 Changes to my supplement approach/plan"? Would this be the way to go? Did i overlook something?
  2. In his book "Dirty Genes" Ben lynch calls the "Choline shortcut" a temporary solution on which one can't rely permanently. He says that in contrast your primary methylation cycle supports all organs and tissues including your brain (while the choline shortcut would only be there to protect the liver and kidneys). This is kind of confusing to me as on this forum and Chris Masterjohn don't seem to see this as a temporary fix?

1.SYMPTOMS
My background (38Y/male):
  • Experienced a lot of traumatic life events especially during childhood.
  • Got diagnosed ADD (inattentive form of ADHD) and get presribed ritalin since 15 years.
  • Experienced a lot of stress and had a partial burnout a couple of years ago.
Since the summer of 2022 (after having corona) i started having weird symptoms like:
  • Brain fog (literally asking the same question within 30 min, not remembering names and even the names of my wife's friends and neighbors, sometimes it felt like a little door was locked and after 3 minutes i could finally call their names). The brain fog does seem to be like 50% less than a year ago tough.
  • Raynauld’s disease
  • Chilblains and feet (extreme, even getting cuts in my hands, even during summer months). My fingers typically become like a bit swollen red.
  • Problems tolerating temperature changes (I even got red finger tips in summer and have trouble tolerating hot weather as well).
  • Tinnitus
  • Anxiety, depression, and mood swings
  • Concentration issues (my mind is like a pinball machine)

4.FAMILY CONDITIONS (might be related):
Both blood lines have/had vein related problems (plague in the arteries). My granddad even got severe dementia from it.
One blood line (mothers side) has also severe mental problems (bipolaADD/depression) in multiple/every generation, my great grandfather committed suicide.
5.WHOLE BACKGROUND STORY:
I became extremely worried since September 2022. Before that time i had been fighting motivation, procastination and concentration issues all my life (as a typical ADD guy) I was thinking about really bad conditions like a brain tumor, Multiple Sclerosis etc. I got my blood checked and even got brain and neck scanned with an MRI and everything seemed to be fine except for T2 flair hyperintense signal abnormalities (vein related. Still, my symptoms got worse.
Besides this i was doing a neurofeedback course under supervision of a neuropsychologist. He did a EEG in June of 2022 and also did one in the beginning of may 2023. After reading the results of the EEG from may he was shocked, my EEG levels were way worse than they were a year before. He asked me if i was depressed or had an underlying condition. He said i needed to be checked for systematic conditions.
In February of 2023 i went to a Wim Hof workshop (cold bath) and somebody there talked about water fasting that would trigger autogaphy. Being as desperate as i was/am after the last EEG results i decided to do a 7 day water fast in may (having two children of 2 and 4 this is not something you'll decide overnight).
After the water fast i felt tired but in a way "in control". My ritalin usage was reduced in a year from 35 mg a day to 12,5mg a day but that might be due to placebo as well. As i was reading the book "Super Gut" (by Dr. William Davis) i decided to try some herbal antibiotics for SIBO/SIFO, following his prescribed protocol of taking Antibactin-AR and Antibactin-BR twice a day. Besides that i was eating a very strict diet focusing on low glycemic index foods, no gluten and no lactose (as I was suffering from bloating as well and in the end dysbiosis was confirmed by a functional doctor).
Within a couple of days my mind felt much more clear, i could concentrate and the brain fog almost disappeared. From then on i went tot about 7,5mg a day of ritalin (practically nothing). I even cancelled my appointment with a neurologist as i was so confident that it had nothing to do with my brain anymore but rather with my belly!
But time seemed to catch up with me. I was basically eating a low carb diet and eating less just seemed to improve my symptoms. I went into a clinical path of finding out if I had coeliac disease (they did a endoscopy). For that i had to eat gluten again for about 5 months and that raised my ritalin again to about 25mg/day but I found out I haven’t got coeliac disease (more non-celiac gluten sensitivity based on a stool test of my functional doc).
In December 2023 I decided to do a full range stool analysis via my functional doc (at a lab in Germany) and the results basically stated I had slight form of dysbiosis, problems with fat absorption, relatively low stomach acid and a relatively high TMAO (that’s the summary). I’ve been on a diet not eating any gluten/lactose since January and have had pre- and probiotics with it. I feel I can’t eat healthier than this and even feel somewhat down sometimes as my “extravert” side kind of left since not eating any sugars (I do watch my calorie intake to be enough).
Over the past years I’ve read about 12 books that focus on the microbiome and how to fix it but somehow I keep being sensitive to fatty foods and I don’t seem to fully be able to fix my gut. Based on that (and the book Dirty Genes of Ben Lynch) I kind of wandered off into the realm of genes (as looking more to other factors contributing to my gut/mental issues). I did a whole genome sequence in November 2023 and just got the results in. Believe it or not, this is basically 10% of the story, there's a lot more to it in that i could probably write a book about it but i don't want to be a burden on anyone's time here. I really hope there's somebody here that has a clue what's going on (i've heared mast cell activation syndrome might be it).
6.CHANGES TO MY SUPPLEMENT APPROACH/PLAN TAKING INTO ACCOUNT MY MTHFGENE PROFILE:

Not B12 deficiency, might switch to hydroxocobalamin instead of methylcobalamin.

Action = Take >6,4 mg extra of B2.
Phase 3 – Methyl-Buffering System
Target = Glycine 3-10g/day
Current = 450mg/day
Action = Tale >2,5g extra of Glycine
Iron/Vitamin A I get via the multisupplement
Phase 4 – Reduce creatine demand on methylation
Target = 3-5g/day
Current = 3,5g/day (since 1 week)
Action = None (might focus on glycine as I do have to pee multiple times a night)
Phase 5 – Support alternate methylation pathway and reduce phosphatidylcholine demand on methylation

I prefer choline versions that don’t have a risk/lowest risk in increasing TMAO because of my high TMAO and genetic disposition to have artery plague/problems.

Hi! I posted on here a while ago and I wanted to give an update to hopefully answer some questions!
(I am a 20 year old female)
So I’ve been suffering from mainly constant dizziness since last June, I’ve been taking iron every day for it, I am not iron deficient but my iron level is the lowest it can be without being deficient.. without taking iron, I have worse symptoms when I eat large, carb heavy meal.
Having said that, I am currently getting tested for POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome). Although I am not officially diagnosed as of yet, it is pretty certain that it is what I have. Having experience this debilitating dizziness every day, even though POTS is chronic and has no cure, it is relieving to finally have some answers.
POTS affects mainly women but also men too, there are so many varying reasons why one would get POTS, from genetics, to long Covid, to puberty, pregnancy, caffeine intake, surgeries, and many other environmental factors.
It is a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system, meaning that when you stand up the blood that was in your legs doesn’t respond arms legs doesn’t respond to the chemicals telling it to come up to the brain, and essentially the symptoms such as dizziness are caused by lack of blood in the brain, which also makes your heart rate rise significantly.
❗️This is also paired with symptoms such as palpitations symptoms such as palpitations shaking, sweating, skewed perception, derealisation and dissociation. Other symptoms, such as nausea, GI issues, constant fatigue and brain fog are also common. The stand out symptom, especially for me is various sensations of dizziness like dropping, spinning and vibrating.❗️
While this is caused, generally by standing up, there can be so many other triggers like heat, bright lights, certain foods that contain high amounts of carbs, Standing for a long time, not getting enough sleep, drinking alcohol / caffeine.

Next time you book a doctors appointment for your dizziness, especially if you’re female if you think this relates to you please mention it as it is not a super well-known condition as of yet and there are probably thousands of people getting about their lives not knowing that they have this, and even a lot of GPs are not even aware that it exists sadly and your diagnostic process may result in a bit of medical gaslighting if you’re unlucky, as they tend to pass it off as purely anxiety etc.
To be diagnosed with POTS, a cardiologist should do a tilt table test, or sometimes test in other ways but that is the most common way I’ve seen. While I’m not an expert on postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome feel free to ask any questions !! I really want to try to help some people out because it’s so frustrating not knowing why certain symptoms are happening on a daily basis and trying so many things, so hopefully this reaches the right people :D

Sorry if this post is long
I am 5ft 5 (165cm) and 220lbs (100kg) and I'm trying to lose weight and improve my health.
Today I made some purchases after doing some research online about supplements I can take to improve quality of life and to help with some issues I've been dealing with, namely shin splints and joint pain. Before I list what I bought just some context, I am a redhead living in the UK, this means I don't tend to get access to the sun all that much and I lack Vitamin D not only that but I'm lactose intolorant and my diet hasn't been good for years so I also lack calcium, both things that would lead to suffering from shin splints.
I decided to buy two different suppliments, one of which containing Vitamin D3 and K2 and the other giving me magnesium, zinc and calcium. I'm hoping this combined with me using better shoes will help deal with the shin splints alongside general health and better my skin, nails and hair too.
