I recently posted a job on LinkedIn today. My first time. I'm not a recruiter, just a small creative business. We got almost 100 applicants in the first day, but not one of them followed the "Additional Requirements" section that asked for a two to three paragraph cover letter and writing sample attached to their resume via "Easy Apply". Is this fairly normal? Should we not be asking for additional requirements or are job seekers just applying to everything without reading the whole job posting?

i recently moved back in with old roommates, my bf and i lived here a couple years ago but we had to move back in recently for a transition period after college. im in recovery for bulimia/restrictive eating and gained abt !10! kg in the ~1.5 yrs we've been away, and im happy about where i'm at with my body and with food.
one of my roommates has been very open about her ED since i've known her, its fluctuated throughout the years, but she is now very tiny since i last saw her. last time i was here, it was anorexia. i was suspecting she is now purging, i noticed she rushes to the restroom right after meals and has marks all over her knuckles and has puffy cheeks. but this morning. i woke up to coughing and groans coming from the downstairs restroom. loud coughs, hacking, gagging, for over two hours. and very dramatic, long, loud groans in between retches. it stopped right when her boyfriend woke up and went to go in and see her, which is why i suspect it was drawn out so long. she is known to beg him over the phone to call out of work so he can go home and take care of her, even when there are other ppl in the house who can do the same thing. i talked to my bf about it, and he says he's heard it nearly every morning since we've been here. i guess i've just slept through it and he hasnt mentioned anything bc he's worried about it being a potential trigger.
i understand eating disorders are competitive by nature but, it's very hard not to see her as a mean person separate from that. everyone in the house has tried to give her a chance, but she's burned every bridge every time. she calls people she doesnt like "fat" as an insult, comments on how everyone else fills their clothes compared to her, compares wrist/thigh sizes, and will just make fun of people who are in vulnerable positions. i have confirmed that another roommate has developed bulimia after seeing how thin she's gotten, and she only encouraged it by coaching them on what bodychecking is and furthering their self image issues.
it was so fucking upsetting to listen to this morning. i cant help but feel sad and also really angry about it. my purging sessions used to last 15-30 mins, and i would run the shower, play music, use toilet paper, and try to mask the noise to accommodate not only her, but any potential person in the house that might be triggered. nobody to my knowledge ever knew i had an ED. i never discussed it with anyone. even when she used to talk about her eating disorder when we last lived here, i never chimed in and chose to stay private about it. for reference, she is 21 and i am 23, and i was her age when i was in the depth of my ED. there is no reason you need to be yakking with the bathroom door open, for 2 hours, letting the whole house hear it, just waiting for your bf to come in?

My 15yo daughter is technically non-verbal. She uses single words, but only on her own terms. We’re best friends, but we’ve never had a conversation. She definitely understands a lot of what I’m saying, but because I can’t converse with her, I have no way to confirm what she does and doesn’t comprehend. We just assume that she understands everything, and take whatever we can get.
She can read and write, but unfortunately I can’t utilize this as a better way to communicate, as it’s selective like her speech. When she was much younger, she would write words, like elephant and universal, or names of her favorite cartoons out of blocks or fridge magnets. She was doing so well at her school, with her teachers and friends. It seemed like she was on track to become at least partially verbal. Then Covid hit, and she regressed, a lot. She has an incredible memory, and memorizes random dates and specific stuff that we did on them, she knows pretty much every Disney and Pixar movie and the years they were released, she knows a surprising amount of song lyrics… but she doesn’t write words like she used to.
She has just turned 15, and has become ten times more difficult than before. Obviously, puberty is playing a huge role in this, and it definitely doesn’t help that she’s taller and stronger than me. Not only physically strong, but head-strong. She’s stubborn, knows what she wants, and gets incredibly frustrated when we can’t figure out what it is… or we can, but can’t get it for her right away. We can only get her to eat 3 types of food, and will only drink from one specific bottle. She will never listen to reason. She bites these two spots on her hand, angry-sings/screams, and shakes when she’s melting down, and it’s so often that she has these huge calluses on both sides of her hand from it. She takes off her clothes when she’s really mad (a HUGE problem when we’re in public!), and throws her shoes and headphones. Bedtime is almost always a nightmare… and when she chooses to perform most of her scream-singing. Sometimes I think she’s asleep, then out of nowhere she’ll start “ahh ahh ahh ahh! ahh ahh ahh ahh! ahh ahh ahh ahh!”… usually she’s a great singer, but it’s not pleasant to listen to when she’s mad, because she’s screaming like a feral banshee!!
She obsessively writes down dates. We have notebooks all around the place, and she can’t go anywhere without one. She writes in patterns, and will fill a whole page with just the first letter of everything she wants to write, then goes around adding single letters or numbers… she could be writing 50 things at the same time, some dates, some activities she likes, some favorite snacks… most of it nonsense, but very meaningful to her.

My biggest frustration is that it’s like having a toddler who can overpower me. She knows when she’s being mean, and chooses to continue. There are some things that I 100% know that she understands, but she acts like she doesn’t. She’s so smart with some stuff, and remembers everything… except how to talk! Speech would be such a game changer. I love her unconditionally just the way she is, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t grieve for the relationship I thought we’d have by now.

Sorry this is depressing, but I need to get it off my chest and some support, advice, encouragement, etc would be helpful. I know I’m not the only one who could use it.
I’m usually really good at keeping myself busy enough that the mental health aspect of suffering with endo doesn’t hit me hard enough to keep my down, but i’m really losing so much hope. My biggest issue right now is the 10cm cyst on my left ovary (a 10cm endometrioma took my right ovary two years ago) causing me increasingly more pain each day. I’ve been on Myfembree for about 7 months and it’s helped with my flare ups being so constant and being so debilitating, so i’ve managed the endo pain better than in the past. I have stage 4 endo, with adhesions everywhere. My bladder, colon, fallopian tubes, bowels, sciatic nerve they suspect but haven’t confirmed, and who knows where else. I’ve adjusted and push through, but this massive cyst is something I cannot deal with anymore. The pain never stops, and it throbs and feels sharp. It feels heavy. It’s causing my left side to hurt so bad, and I haven’t been sleeping barely at all because I usually sleep on my stomach and I can’t now. Pain meds do not touch it.
I do not have insurance. I had to leave my last job that gave me great insurance because it was shot up while I was there and I was too scared to go back. My new job is amazing in every way, accommodating, awesome coworkers and manager, understanding if I need to leave early or take off due to pain but no health insurance. It’s a locally owned business so right now it’s just dental and vision, which i’m grateful for but I need health insurance. I can’t get on medicaid, I wasn’t approved for special enrollment for marketplace insurance, I can’t afford out of pocket for insurance, and I can’t afford to pay to see a specialist tbh even with insurance because there’s none close to me. The ER of course can’t do anything for me but I keep going because it’s my only option right now. They can’t remove the cyst until it’s a medical emergency, and so far my left ovary torsion has not happened (is it bad I wish it just would?) like my right did so they won’t do anything. I tried following up with a sliding scale OBGYN and she was no help. I’m fighting for a hysterectomy but i’m in a southern state and having zero luck being in my early 20’s with no kids. I have always wanted to adopt so a hysterectomy is not an issue to me at all.

I have BPD, anxiety, depression, and ADHD so I have already struggled a lot with this, but it’s really getting to me now. Hi hi. I hope you're all doing well. I know it's probably sort of silly to come to a subreddit like his to just talk, but I wanted a place to do so and this seemed like the best option.
I'm so... so sad. And I try not to think about it so much, but it gets hard sometimes. I'm tearing up heavily just writing this post. I'm 20M, and I'm out of school, in College, but I had to withdraw from my first two semesters because I just couldn't handle it.
I'm doing my best to put on a happy face for everyone around me, including those I love, but I don't know how much longer I can keep doing it, I keep having these breakthrough days where I just don't have the energy to even get up, much less help around the house or get out to do anything.
My one thought that I always come back to is that I just want to be little again. The world was so much brighter then. I would come home from my elementary school and sit in the family office watching my mother play Plants Vs Zombies. And I always got so scared of the Zombies but I wanted to stay in there and put on a brave face for her. And then I'd go play with my toys... my Thomas the Tank Engine toys... those were my favorites. We'd occasionally go to the store and get a new one to add to my little train collection.. And my stuffed animals. I thought they were so magical. My mom would write me letters from one of them, one of my favorites. I think a little part of me died the day I found out it was just her. But I still had that childlike wonder, the feeling that nothing could or would go wrong. As I got older, things just got grayer. I don't know why.
I don't know why I have all these thoughts. I'm on a cocktail of medicines that SHOULD be working. But when I have them in me, I just feel... numb to everything? The dog I had for the longest time died earlier in the year, and I just didn't feel anything. It's not like I'm avoiding taking them, but I feel like... it just dampens anything I do. I know that's probably silly.
My mom and dad are so supportive of me and I love them so much. But I know they're not always going to be there, and there's always that little thought in the back of my head that says, would I be better off if I went before them so I wouldn't have to bear losing them? I know it's not right, but I don't know if I could lose one of them and still be okay.
Everything moves so fast these days. I have to pay attention to so many things. When I was little, nothing seemed like it would ever move. I liked it that way. God, I even broke down when my family changed the wallpaper in the house I grew up in. I still have a little strip I keep of that wallpaper I have in a music box. I never want to lose it.
And I love my dad. I love him so much. I know he's not got the same thoughts that I do, he grew up in a different time. I know I'm neurodivergent. And he does his very best to accommodate me, but he still makes me sad sometimes, and then he feels like it's his fault, and then HE gets sad, and then I feel awful... it's not the best dynamic, but I do my best to roll with it.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to post so much, I just needed a place to write down my thoughts, I think. I have no plans of taking my life, or anything silly like harming myself, but I need something. I don't know what I need, though. I just need these thoughts to stop. I get so sad... and I know I have an okay life. So why do I feel this way? Okay, loaded title, I know, but I'm just really lost right now, so let's start from the beginning...
I'm a first gen female brown student - I go to a pretty prestigious university on a full-ride as a Biochemistry major. First freshman semester was subpar - I knew I could do better, I got distracted with new friends and stuff, but all my classes were fine, except Gen Chem I; I got a D- (the lowest passing grade at my university) which plummeted my GPA to begin with. I took AP Chemistry in high school and exceled, however, that was at my tiny poor high school with 68 kids in my graduating class. I developed test anxiety since coming to college, something I never experienced in high school or ever in my life before. It's like I felt like I knew what I was doing but I just kept messing up and getting nervous, thinking about what other people are doing or thinking about the exam. Anyway, I ended first semester with a 2.46 - not my best work, but I honestly felt like I didn't do my best, I barely studied or even knew how to and I paid the price for that, clearly.
Second semester freshman year, all my time was consumed with Genetics; at my school, the recommended science courses for first & second semester were Gen Chem 1 and Gen Bio 1 then Gen Chem 2 and Genetics - the class kicked my ass. I actually put a lot of effort into the class and I still only got C's on the exams - after the curve & after endless hours of studying and tutoring. I ended the second semester with a 2.70 overall which allowed me to keep my scholarship - I need to maintain a 2.5 overall to have it. I started going to the counseling center this semester which I feel like helped me handle emotions better, but didn't really help in terms of academics. I wanted test accommodations for my test anxiety (I am not diagnosed nor trying to say I am, I simply wanted to be able to take tests in a less crowded space), however, I found out the Learning Support Services at my university can really only offer accommodations to people with diagnosed mental illnesses, meaning I would have to go to an outside therapist to get diagnosed - my counseling center guy wouldn't cut it.
Fast forward to a few days ago - I get an email saying I am on academic probation for my technical GPA which is a measly 1.97 - I need a 2.0 to get off of probation. It dips below 2.0 because of my Gen Chem 1 grade, which is why I decided to meet with my advisor - who hasn't really helped me thus far in my college career. The university recommends you take no more than 13-14 credits on probation and he said the same, however, I feel like I can handle it? I am planning to take my usual 18 credits next semester however, the only new science course I am taking would be Orgo 1. I'm taking Orgo 1 & Lab, ASL 1 & Lab, Intro to Medical Humanities, a required Writing course, and retaking Gen Chem 1. However, if I get an A in Gen Chem 1, that new grade wouldn't replace the other D-, they would only be averaged together. I was meant to take Physics this year too, but for my major and a Bio major, it's fine to take Physics junior year. My advisor wants me to drop Intro to Medical Humanities but I feel like it would be an easier class to take and although it wouldn't help my technical GPA, it would bring my cumulative GPA up.
Oh and by the way, I am also taking a Medical Terminology class this summer - it's worth 3 credits and seems to be an easy A.
That's my spiel - I am just really confused and scared and don't know what to do. I genuinely enjoy my university and what I'm learning I just feel like I've fallen too far behind and it takes me so much longer to learn material than it takes other people. Being a PA has been my goal and dream for years but I am beginning to think I am not cut out for this. I don't seem to know how to study or what study method works best for me. I am currently in the Honors college and I need a 3.33 within the next 3 semesters to stay in - meaning I essentially need all A's (at least that's what I'm aiming for) in all my classes fall and spring semester. I never failed an exam or got the grades I did now in high school and I just don't know what to do, I feel like no matter how hard I try, I still fail and I am just so scared of messing up and ruining everything. I have one shot to fix this and I need solid advice; tips for Orgo? tips on handling test anxiety & imposter syndrome? is it possible to pick myself up from this? I have a 2.58 with 37 credits.
No one in my life knows about this except for me - not my family, friends, or boyfriend. I feel embarrassed and ashamed and guilty. I just really need some advice on this, anything is appreciated. I really don't want to give up on myself but I can't get kicked out of university and lose everything.
I also forgot to mention that this summer I surprisingly earned myself a research mentor who I will be working with this summer and next year, fall and spring semesters. I am trying to figure out if Bio or Biochem is a better major for me but clearly I have to push that to the side right now and focus on my GPA as a whole.
