Key points :
- He adds that he has seen multiple cases of people caught cheating online being allowed to re-register their account without problems, and continue to play on TT (he is not the first GM to say this...). He says that it is very rare to see people meaningfully punished, he says most of the time people suspected of cheating are asked to play under supervision, and then adapt their methods accordingly and continue to avoid detection, by choosing different engine lines or maybe using the 3rd or 4th line instead of the 2nd (he said this on a recent podcast also).
I agree with a lot of what Yan says, unfortunately cheating in chess in my opinion has become out of control, and the lack of transparency and urgent action has led to a hotbed of paranoia amongst top players and distrust of results and players. It's difficult to form any real estimate of cheating OTB or online as the controls are so poor that it's impossible to make an accurate judgement, not enough data is being collected either way.

2024.04.28 19:19 Overly_Long_Reviews Wildling Shoes Nebula Black. Initial thoughts and review in progress.

Hi! I'm somewhat infamous for excessively long reviews and similar musings. So much so that they often break review portals. I just made this account today for the overflow. I purchased these shoes recently and found that I blew past the maximum character limit by approximately 13,000 characters! This review in progress also happens to be the first I'm sharing this way. The jury is still out on whether or not it's a worthwhile concept. (Update: review portal started working again and I was able to submit a modified and expanded version of this review. It's not live yet, it might have gotten flagged for length)
Assuming no one goes insane from the length, tangents, frequent revisions, or spotty approach to grammar, hopefully the three of you who make it to the end find it helpful!
I've been intensely studying Wildling's shoe lineup for many years. But I never made a purchase till now. Because as intriguing as the outsoles may be, you're sacrificing a lot for them. It is my opinion that of Wildling's current offerings, the Nebula Black is their most versatile shoe. It's still very niche and has plenty of downsides, but as long as you come in aware of that you'll find that these are a fantastic set of shoes when used in the right environment and situation.
I'll start out with the positives. Most prominently, they feel absolutely amazing. When it comes to fit and feel the Nebula has blown away my expectations. I believe a big part of that comes from how lightweight they are. They make every other barefoot or minimal shoe or boot I've tried feel clunky and heavy in comparison. I've come across nothing like it in terms of weight, I have daily use socks that are heavier.
Not only are the Nebulas feather light, but they're also sleek. The upper is primarily made out of a single piece of poly-wool blend. The fabric is a technical marvel. The exterior facing side is described as being primarily poly for increased abrasion resistance. The interior is slightly softer and If the product description is to be believed, is where most of the 31% wool is placed for increased comfort and thermal regulation. So it's a dual layer poly-wool blend fabric. I'm a huge advocate of dual layer wool blends in outdoor technical apparel and it's nice to see it applied to shoes. It's not a uniform knit either, that would be too easy. The knit is different in different parts of the shoe. These varying knits provide structure, support, and some protection in certain areas areas well opening up in others for increased breathability and ventilation. With the only additional reinforcement and source of structure on the upper being the heel. The shoe doesn't even have plastic or metallic hardware for the eyelets, its just slits in the fabric. This makes for a very slick upper that doesn't drag or collect debris. One that comfortably hugs and contours to the shape of the foot. They feel a lot like good technical socks.
Wildling's flagship feature is the distinctive and unique outsole design. When I was first introduced to Wildling, I was still very skeptical about the barefoot shoe concept. But I couldn't help but be fascinated by the possibilities of the outsole. Although I ultimately went with a different shoe for my first (the in many ways superior Softstar Megagrip PRIMAL RunAmoc), early exposure to the Wildling outsole is one of the key factors that convert me to the barefoot shoe concept. Years later, I finally broke down (and had the budget surplus) and decided to give them a try. I'm very impressed. The distinctive shape of the outsole allows for an impressive amount of freedom of movement. You can flex and shape your foot and have those movements be translated to the outsole with very little resistance from the shoe. I've come across nothing quite like it. The flexible and thin outsole also lends itself to very good ground feel. It really has to be experienced to be believed.
One of my big concerns with Wildling and one of the many reasons why it took me so long to eventually purchase a pair has to do with traction. My use case is such that I prefer a very aggressive tread on my outsoles. Right now, my primary boot for use in the field is a Vivobarefoot Magna Forest Esc which has a particularly aggressive lug pattern on its Michelin outsole. In contrast, the Wildling outsole has no lugs at all. I was worried that the outsole would be too slick for my needs. After all, despite the product photos showing people frolicking in the woods, Wildling shoes are objectively not technical shoes. They are casual indoor shoes. I'm happy to report that the traction is a lot better than I expected. Part of that is a function the soft rubber used. Even a completely slick outsole will have decent enough traction if you make it out of very soft rubber. Or at least it will have decent traction until the rubber gets ripped to shreds from rough terrain or pavement. The other part to the better than expected traction likely has to do with the amount of flex that the outsole allows. You can dig into the ground (much like if you were truly barefoot and weren't wearing shoes) in ways that aren't possible with shoes with more rigid outsoles. To be clear, it's not nearly as good as the aforementioned Vibram Megagrip, Michelin Esc, or any of the other aggressive outsoles I prefer. But it still provides better grip than a lot of other street shoes. I still would like to see future options with more aggressive treading even if it comes at the expensive of ground feel, stack height, and comfort. It's also worth remembering that it's still early in my time with the Nebula. There's still a lot of unanswered questions about how well the outsole will wear with use.
I found fit to be true to the Wilding's fitkit. With just the right amount of rolling room with all but my thickest of socks. One of the first things I learned when I transitioned over to barefoot shoes is sizing is all over the place. Depending on the brand, I'm anywhere from a US mens size 7 to I think a size 10. With most of my other barefoot shoes I'm a size 9. With Wilding's fitkit/size chart I'm a US mens size 8. If this is your first pair of shoes from Wilding, don't assume that your typical shoe size transfers over. Always measure and measure again for good measure. Even with the return policy, it's better to get it right the first time. One thing I found was that there was no break in time. Or at least there wasn't for me. Just one of the benefits of a flexible knit upper. They were comfortable right out of the box. The shoes come with the "Washi" Insole which is approximately 0.10". You can replace them with a different insole or pull them entirely if you need to adjust for your individual foot volume. Thought I will caution that if you go without an insole you will lose out on some protection and support that the insole provides but the outsole does not. A future project of mine is to experiment with the different insoles. Note that the insole does like to shift when you take off the shoe. This happens more often if you go sockless but it also happens with socks. I have not run into any issues with the insole shifting when being worn. I found the shoe to be comfortable with and without socks and go back and forth depending on what I'm doing. Out of the box, the top 2 eyelets don't have the laces threaded through them. Exactly how the shoes appeared in the product photos. My recommendation is that you thread the laces through those top eyelets. I found that doing so improved the already good fit and comfort. Particularly because it straightens out the tongue. With the factory lace configuration, the tongue can bunch or fold over in places. The material is thin enough that when this happens it's not uncomfortable or even all that noticeable. But you'll have a better experience if the tongue is properly situated. The top outwardly facing eyelet has been reinforced for the additional stitching, the only eyelet with this reinforcement. The stitching makes that particular slit in the fabric very difficult to access. To the point where I sent an email to Wilding support asking if it was cosmetic. It's not, just very difficult to thread the aglets thought. Which could pose an issue if you plan on swapping out the flat laces for the elastic and cord lock alternative.
Unlike most of Wildling's lace up shoe lineup, the Nebula does not feature a membrane. I'm sure many will disagree, but I consider this lack of membrane to be a positive. It's one of the big reasons why I went with the Nebula and why I feel it's one of Wildling's most versatile shoes. The thing with membranes is that all it does is (often slightly) extend the time it takes for the inside of the shoe to get wet. In exchange it takes significantly more time for the shoe to dry out. If water permeates a membrane equipped shoe in the field, for all practical purposes you will not be able to dry out that shoe. Furthermore, a waterproof or water resistant membrane is inherently not going to be as breathable and will retain more moisture and heat. So it's not the best choice if your feet have a tendency of running hot or if you're prone to athlete's foot. Fortunately I don't suffer from either problem. But speaking as someone who has spent their entire professional career working in the outdoors, I have found that quick dry materials and drainage to be the better overall choice. My quality of life in the field improved significantly when I ditched shoes with Gore-Tex liners many years ago. I'm not alone in that assessment. Which is why jungle style boots have enjoyed a resurgence in recent years. I've been very disappointed by the increased prevalence of membranes in Wildling's current shoe offerings. For me, the presence of a membrane is a big negative. Something I have complained about a few times in previous email correspondences to them. It's also worth noting that Wildling's implementation of its membrane doesn't seem to be great or at least could be better. Many reviewers and Wildling themselves have noted that the membrane is quite crinkly sounding. Which is not only annoying but actively a problem for my needs. I also feel that a 100% polyester membrane negates many of the material advantages of many of the interesting fabrics used in shoe linings. It reinforces that Wildling shoes are primarily made to be inside shoes that occasionally get taken outside instead of vice versa. But enough about my membrane complaints since as mentioned, the Nebula doesn't have one. This means that when exposed to water or moisture it will permeate the shoe abnormally quickly. But with its limited surface area and ventilation/drainage holes on the inside arch the shoes dry out relatively quickly. At most in a few hours (faster if you have spare insoles), unlike a membrane shoe which could take several days. It's been raining pretty heavily since receiving the shoes. I have not worn them for more prolonged excursions in the rain (it's not what they're meant for), but for quick everyday exposure to the rain or general moisture I have been quite content with how quickly they dry out. The Nebula isn't supposed to be a water shoe, but I have found the drying and drainage to be on par with some of my old pre barefoot shoe maritime and OTB boots. Currently the Nebula is the fastest drying shoe/boot in my shoe and boot rotation. I haven't had to specifically put them aside to dry them yet, they've been fully dry by the time I've taken them off.
Before we move on to the more negative side of my in progress review, I have a few miscellaneous positives that I want to mention. Something that I really like is how quiet the shoe is. The light weight plus its ability to flex allows for very quiet traversal over a variety of surfaces. No one likes shoes that squeak or loudly clump. One thing I've grown to really like about barefoot shoes is that they're very packable. Making it very easy to carry and swap into spare dry shoes in the field. The Nebula is so light and compact that it's just like carrying an extra set of socks. After a particularly rough day in the field it's really nice to be able to put on something dry. And you can wear your spares while you're airing out your primary boots and insoles. The Nebula features bootstraps which is a genuine quality of life feature and has a lot of utility. Several low-cut barefoot shoes I've tried have excluded the bootstraps. It's a small thing, but it really helps. My Nebula came with the Natural (white) colored "Washi" Insole. As cool as it would be to have the Black "Washi" Insole for a fully black on black on black shoe, the high visibility white makes it very easy to find and put on the shoe in low and no light conditions. Which may sound silly, but as someone who spends a lot of time in low and no light conditions, it's an appreciated though likely unintended detail. Lastly, I'm really glad that the Nebula is now offered in black. The standard gray and white colorway looks good but it's too bright for my needs and would actually violate some of the equipment requirements I need to follow. If they weren't offered in black, I wouldn't have purchased the shoe. The black makes them more subdued and professional looking. Allowing the Nebula to be used in a lot of different (preferably indoor) settings. I will be an shooting email to Wildling support requesting that the Black colorway be added to the essentials and be stocked all year instead of being a limited run like it is now.
As I alluded to in my introduction, as much as I genuinely like the outsoles, having it brings with it some significant sacrifices. An essential task for any outsole is protection. The classic Wildling outsole by design prioritizes flexibility over protection. With the "notch" and inner arch being completely uncovered. Bringing with it a very real risk of being stabbed through those unprotected parts. It's not just the unprotected areas that have a stab risk, the thin soft rubber of the outsole does not provide a lot of impact protection and there are plenty of daily hazards that could easily penetrate. So plan accordingly. I've also had some items get stuck in the notch. Which is not the most comfortable thing in the world but easily remedied if you deal with it quickly. Wildlings now rolling out a new outsole design which does better prioritize protection but it's not currently offered on the Nebula and it sounds like it will mostly (possibly even exclusively) be used on shoes with a membrane. And if you've made it this far (Congratulations! 10 years have passed since you started reading!), you've seen my rant about membranes. If Wildlings were to offer a version of the Nebula with the new outsole, I would probably give it a try. I think it would make for a good companion shoe to the classic outsole version. Alternating in between the two depending on the situation. The outsole is an important aspect when it comes to protection but it's not the only aspect. The hard face of the upper does provide everyday aberration resistance, but doesn't really provide stab or slash resistance. Thus it is my opinion that the shoe does not provide enough protection for outdoor use. Not even enough for a well-maintained hiking trail. The most rugged I would push it would be a nicely groomed glass lawn or field. You also have to be mindful of many urban areas which might have trash on the ground that could defeat the knit fabric or outsole, as well as keep an eye out for ragged edge of worn down concrete.
In a related concern, I worry a lot about durability. I would feel a lot more comfortable if the shoe had beefier and more redundant stitching and gluing between the outsole and the upper. It's been the most common point of failure on my other barefoot shoes and it's always happened at the worst possible times and locations. As Wildling's themselves points out in their FAQ, that particular part of the shoe goes through a lot more stress than conventional shoes and to their credit they do provide some user repair options. But they notably do not address whether or not the shoe is resolable. And speaking from experience from having to carry out the same DIY repairs on other barefoot shoes, once you start doing that the shoe is on borrowed time. It's a sign that it's time to order replacement shoes as soon as possible. Theoretically you could find a cobbler that might be able to do a much better repair. I haven't found one in my region who's willing to do that kind of work, maybe I'm just unlucky. You might be able to find a cobbler that could do a repair for you. On the more positive side, with the Nebula being made from so few pieces with only a handful of stitches, you will likely have less points of failure compared to other Wildling shoes. As a final note on durability, I do wonder about how well the slits in place of eyelets will hold up but in all likelihood the outsole will fall off before that becomes an issue. I'm hoping for 18 months of life use but I'm going to estimate now that it's going to be closer to 8 months.
It is hands down my most niche shoe and has a very narrow use case. Pretty much only used for the few times when I'm actually doing boring stuff. I genuinely adore the shoe, but I would not recommend the shoe for most people. Keeping in mind my opinion that the Nebula is Wildling's most versatile offering. I decided against all the other available shoe and boot models because I feel they were a worst fit for my particular used needs. Before purchasing any Wildling shoe, you need to sit down and seriously think about your shoe needs and whether or not the advantages are worth the disadvantages. Everyone's use case and requirements are different. No piece of equipment is perfect and there's always compromises that have to be made. I purchased my pair of Nebula Black shoes with a very clear idea of what they didn't do well. And put a lot of thought into how to best utilize them and what situations to avoid. For the best overall experience make sure you do the same. If you use them at the right time and place you'll find that the Nebula is a fantastic shoe. As specialized as they may be, I still really like them and I'm glad I gave them a try. If nothing else it finally settles my years long curiosity.

2024.03.24 20:28 Clappy379 KLIM Dakar/Mojave OTB Pants (and boots)

So I’m historically a woods rider on the East coast with the occasional track but I just bought a Beta dual sport. I’m planning to spend a bit more time on the road for short jaunts and some forest roads in PA.
I want to be a bit safer with gear when I’m on pavement so I bought a Klim SE induction jacket, some beefier gloves, and plan to use my Tech 7 enduro boots. I have some Mojave size 32 ITB pants that I love but was thinking of some Dakar OTB pants for when I’m on pavement here or there. I actually have hip armor for them but realize I can’t use unless I get the OTB pants.
A few questions - - are the size 32 OTB pants in regular length going to be super long on me? ITB Mojave feel fine but don’t want them dragging under my boots. I’m 5’7” with a 28-29ish inseam. Not trying to be super fashionable but don’t want to look clownish either. - I assume these are probably a good compromise pant for what I’m looking for? I don’t want super technical crazy priced pants but something I can wear some armor with. - Bonus question - Tech 7 boots are probably what I would mostly wear, but are there any boots that are different enough but better for casual rides or wearing on the occasion that I’m really just on the bike to head on the street to dinner or a road-only trip? Something more comfortable or flexible in some ways.

My printer OTB was having issues with my prints randomly stopping under the error "MCU ‘mcu’ shutdown: Timer too close". I was instructed by someone is a support chat to reflash the EMMC and Update the TFT Screen with the image and files located here "https://www.mediafire.com/foldejxphsp7l4cdgt/Twotrees-SK1". Ever since that My TFT screen is stuck on the boot screen. And even though I can connect to the printer over ethernet using the IP for mkspi. I have a new error " Include file '/home/mks/klipper_config/MCU_ID.cfg' does not exist". I do not know where to source this file. I have been unable to get any further support nor have any of my attempts worked. Can someone give me a copy of there current "MCU_ID.cfg" file so I can see if it will help my printer

2024.03.10 03:22 snowsnakes ESSAY ALERT - Flat pedal convert with shoe-finding woes in AK - looking for ANY options

This got long, sorry. TL;DR - are there flat pedal shoes that fit a "duck foot" and have toe/heel traction?
When I first started mtbing for "real" I upgraded from terrible truly flat flats that should never have left the shop to a nice pair of composite RF Chesters, which was a big improvement. However, I carried on riding in worn out running shoes and having the associated issues with grip...until I was bit by the clipless pedal bug. It made me feel free as a bird to no longer worry about bouncing off the pedals.
As my skills and riding appetite improved, I found I was going OTB frequently, and HARD, specifically while jumping or at the end of a long ride, and that my cornering technique was deteriorating. A new, more modern bike didn't solve the issue. Then, an idea hit me like the aforementioned bird hitting a window: what if I tried the flat pedals again?
To avoid making this any longer, I'll say that one move solved basically every problem I was having with on the bike comfort, confidence, and progression, except for one thing - the shoes. Try as I might, any flat pedal shoe I've tried from Pearl Izumi, Bontrager, Specialized, Chrome, Fiveten, or Shimano (which happens to be the comprehensive list of brands I've been able to try on in Alaska) has been tight around my toes, sloppy in the heels, and (besides for Chrome) possessed of a spongy and over-padded upper. Apparently, my combination of narrow heels, low arches, and wide forefeet is an anomaly in the flat-pedal market.
It hasn't made things easy for running shoes or ski boots, mind you - Salomon size 44 2/3, and specifically the pricey S/lab stuff, is the closest to my magic bullet I've found, but I'd prefer to avoid the most expensive possible version of flat pedals + running shoe. The absolute best fitting bike shoe I've had are Fizik Terra X5s in size 44, but they are thin-sock-only, VERY XC clipless shoes that are suitably only for short sprints off the bike. The new Crank Brothers shoes seem like an option, with their Fizik manufacture, "low volume" uppers, and the added bonus of traction at the front and back, but I have no way to try them on, and beyond that I'm stumped.
Any MEATheads have suggestions for me before I throw a Hail Mary and buy a shoe I've never seen or put on before?

2023.12.03 19:02 fakegoldrose November Phonk Report - Spotify Breakthrough Spotlight

Hello and Welcome to a new edition of the Phonk Monthly Spotify Report.
Earlier this week I highlighted some spotify producers who are a bit under the radar and that I’d like to give more visibility. But today I am closing out the week with artists who cut through the noise to increase their monthly listeners. Overall I felt a big increase in many artists creating rare/cloud, OG, & Dirt Phonk this last month.
Memphis Cult - Returning for a second month in a row, Memphis cult’s spotify has gotten a massive 2.53 million increase in monthly listeners. I’m fairly confident that the 9mm track from their self titled collective Vol 7. Tape has been used in Tiktoks/IG shorts/Youtube Videos a LOT in th last month. Drift phonk never dies haha
Jupiluxe - After the release of The Empress in October, Jupiluxes full length album with producer credits to phonk artists like SLVG, Ekonoir, & Grimmijow has finally started to get traction. Her november listeners increased from last month by 70K! Her multitude of singles released in the last 30 days have also been enough for everyone to get a soundbyte. Go check out this memphis revival star!
Puar - Puar has released almost a dozen singles & EP’s this year and it is beginning to pay off. Likely kickstarted by his most recent single “Willow”, he has shifted away from the cloud phonk sound to a more magical boom bap/lofi hip-hop style which has bumped his listenership up by 50K in November. Definitely check out his older stuff for the phonk you all love, but I always like to keep track of where producer interests fall once they get bored of making the same kind of sound.
Emune - Similar to Puar, Emune has been experimenting with boom bap production, his recent release titled “Pina” gives you a jazzy uptempo sound with arpeggiating piano keys to boot. But the real reason I think his listeners have jumped by 36K is due to the release of Planet Terror 3 with collabs by HPSHAWTY & IceBird. It has that classic emune sound and will definitely not disappoint.
camo mane - This one caught me off guard because his listenership increased basically tenfold. Listenership grew by 19K in november and I have to believe it is due to the success of his full length album Apocalypse with collabs featuring BIG PROBLEM MAC, Phonkmasta, Judgement G, Sight Mvsk, & BuntaSparks. Crossing my fingers that the LOOKSMAX! EP will be his first and last try at drift house XD.
Holy Mob - I don’t think we have to guess why Holy Mob’s listeners bumped by 16K in november. With the release of God As My Witness, the whole crew is back together to create another masterpiece collection of tracks
YUSHEE - YUSHEE’s listeners jumped by 13K this month and I just have a feeling it is due to their music being included in some external media causing the tracks “ENFEEBLE” and “Glass w/ SPVRROW” to get hundreds of thousands, even millions of streams. Both tracks are cosmic/wave phonk and I know the subgenre is still growing so it’s good to see that kind of music driving the listeners rather than a random drift house or god forbid brazilian funk collab.
9.11 playa - Releasing a ridiculous amount of content in the year of 2023, 9.11 playa hailing out of Khazakhstan, has made a name for himself in the drift phonk scene. His listeners jumped 13K since releasing 3 albums and 4 singles over the last month. If you’re a fan of cowbell cult you would love his music.
Honorable Mentions (At lease 5k new listeners in November):Mista Playa, kenichi, FISTISCALE, H X 7, 42PATH, Nissan playa, Kilfiger, Jak3 / Trashman, Cowbell Killaz, GRVI, Yuuz, SILVR, Occvlt, HOODMAFIA, $HEEPDAH$LEEPER, Von Storm, BREEZEFORE, Donvtello, Caspian Rose

2023.11.12 10:21 SeekerRook Distro hop recommendations from Manjaro on G14

Distro hop recommendations from Manjaro on G14
Hello everyone. I am using my G14 with dual boot Win11-Manjaro Linux. It had a great experience for about a year now, however in the last month it crashed twice on boot with a black screen with cursor. The first time i tried many solutions and got it working by accident. Currently it is in this condition once again. I searched a lot how to solve it and stumbled upon this on https://asus-linux.org/wiki/arch-guide/
https://preview.redd.it/sysnc0v7vvzb1.png?width=1447&format=png&auto=webp&s=a800e596bf5634acf55836b3ff49daa72cbb238e
I had never seen it before. As I am in a phase where I am not completely against getting a backup of my files and reinstalling the OS, I thought of leaving Manjaro altogether and trying something new. I am currently working on my uni thesis so troubleshooting for days on end is not something I have time for, so I would like an os that would not leave me with an unbootable PC. However I am a long time Manjaro user (even before the g14) and really like many of its features (especially packman and AUR). So, I am caught in a dilemma between the stability of distros like PopOS or Fedora that I have heard have great compatibility OTB, and distros like Garuda or EndeavorOS in order not to leave my Arch based safe space. What would you recommend? Have you tried any of those distros on the G14? Do you have any other recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Fjallraven Greenland Down Liner Vest (size Medium / color is Autumn Leaf)—> I wore this 4 times, I ordered a size medium and I have wide shoulders and it was just a little too tight for my liking. It’s in amazing condition. Color is awesome for the fall and winter, and it’s warm. I added the description of this vest from fjallraven on the Imgur. msrp is $210. I saw some websites having this for like $150. I am listing it for $110.

Levi’s Men’s Sherpa Trucker Jacket (size Large) —> Great condition, there’s nothing I should point out, no flaws, stylish and has kept me warm. This is a serious denim jacket, lined with sherpa, it’ll keep you warm in the fall. $60.
https://imgur.com/a/uy7GO90
Abercrombie & Fitch Brown Corduroy Sherpa Lined Trucker Jacket (size medium) —> stylish, but on the smaller side for me, again it’s the broad shoulders. No flaws to point out. $35.
https://imgur.com/a/ly1Mjxt
Born Primitive Flex Stretchy Jort (size large / color khaki) —> I read a lot about these and wanted to try them out but even the large is too tight on my thunder quads. https://imgur.com/a/MLDpPK4
Men's Altama OTB Maritime Assault Low (size 11.5 / color is MultiCam) -> Awesome shoes, lused them once for the range but realized if I'm gonna be using them a lot I would rather have the proper size. https://imgur.com/a/ggJCgTN
Men's Allbirds Tree Dasher 2 (size 10 / color is black) - Like new condition, gift from sister, no box. This is the "natural black (natural black sole)" on their website, don't have the black laces she got me these. I think they're awesome for running and CrossFit. I also attached a lot of pictures, I think $65 is fair. NOW $50.

UA Golf Hat (size LG / XL). No flaws. $13.
https://imgur.com/a/jedYAau
UConn Camo Nike Hat (one size). No flaws. My ex went to college there and I bought to support. $13. Or free to a UConn student or grad if you buy something else.

2023.09.09 00:26 purpledozer33 Boot recommendations?

I work hospital security and need a black duty boot that has good traction on tile, is lightweight, and good longevity. Price is no factor, my last 3 sets have been over 200(OBOZ hiking, Danner duty boots) and I don't care how much I pay as long as they last and have a roomy toe box.
I do a lot of physical mitigation of violence and need something that will hold up.
They removed most of the requirements so now they just have to be black and professional in appearance but tennishoes are OK.
I have been considering getting another pair of altama otb but walking 10+miles a day might get old real quick in those.
I like the options I have used over the years but am curious about others I may not have heard of.

2023.08.13 13:11 BadBillyMedia A couple of newbie questions after my first trip to a park.

So im a pretty fresh mtb rider, im just at the stage where I can clear most features on most Blue trails, depending on the trail (how rough/ fast it is mainly)
Today I headed to Boomerang MTB park (Gold Coast, Australia), which is my first ever park experience. The people are great, and made some mates while I was there, and progressed more which I feel stoked about. But I also came back with a few questions. Im riding an emtb, FS 160/170mm
  1. First off, I struggled a bit with arm pump, but was relieved when I heard more experienced/ fitter riders complain about it too. The tracks can be a bit rough and choppy, and I know I can do with a lot more fitness in that regard, but I feel sometimes the bars would chatter so much my hands would struggle to hold on. Would fatter and softer grips maybe help with the chatter? For the most part I feel the shocks are working great (Rockshocks Zeb Select), but I do have the rebound speed set to nearly the lowest setting, as I feel its a bit more forgiving and doesnt want to "buck" me as much. Same goes for the rear shock. Is this wrong? Any insight into this? I got bucked off the pegs and had an OTB moment on one of my first rides, so I slowed the rebound right down and felt much more comfortable/ in tune with the bike.
  2. Im on an EMTB with a big 750-wh battery. I hardly used the EMTB side of things (came back with 90% left on the battery) as was using shuttle. Should I remove the battery to cut out down on some weight? I had a small backpack on early in the day, and just taking that off made a huge difference.
  3. At the end of the day I was doing some (what I consider) to be bigger jumps (a few bike lengths). I found hitting them faster and trying to "soak up" the jump was the only consistent and safe way for me to hit the jumps, which is tricky because you need to carry more speed. One guy commented it was like I was absorbing all the bikes energy and staying low, as other guys were booting high. I found if I tried to hit the jumps normal, I would kind of get bucked funny, landing crooked/ front wheel high/low etc. Could this be because I have the rebound on my suspension too slow that its booting me funny? Or is this a just skill issue? I was able to clear and land the jumps fine with my "absorbing approach" but I would have to hit the jumps so much faster than everyone else.
Thanks all for any insight/ advice you can provide 🙏

2023.07.06 19:03 B4D_Y3LL0W Some heel slippage in my Jim Green Vellie

So I recently bought a pair of Vellies from Jim Green. I wear a Mens 10D but I ordered a 8.5 instead because the larger sizes were too big. I swapped out the insole and tried it on with some thicker socks but I've noticed theres slight heal slippage when Im walking. Is that normal with boots OTB or should I go down to an 8 instead?

2023.05.21 03:02 RisingChaos SOTC 2023 post-samples & stats, review retrospective, random musings

Xerjoff box still fits 'em!
Here they are in full glory
Oh, where to begin... I suppose with my original niche deep dive culminating in a massive vanilla sample frenzy. Which I'm still doing here and there despite finding some amazing vanillas for me, BTW; I just bought a decant of Ambre Precieux last week and I'd give it a solid 4.5/5. A lovely musky vanilla.
After an extended break, I've been sampling discovery sets since last February starting with a lesser-known budget niche house and just finishing with an American indie darling. And that brings me here today, less than a week before my vacation. To Miami, where you know I'm going to be spending days drenching myself in that sweet, sweet smelly water between Osme Perfumery and the massive department stores.
All past reviews are stickied at the top of my profile on request of mods. *ahem*
Let's go through 'em... in alphabetical order? Sure, why not.
Join the Club - 400 Xerjoff (Warm Floral, Sweet) - Xerjoff's honey tobacco fragrance nobody pays attention to, but I think it's superior to Naxos. It is a white tobacco in the background of a lot of floral and fruity notes, though. It's difficult to describe other than it's a honey-tobacco scent mixed with an indescript melange of fruits and flowers. Semi-gourmand.
Acqua di Gio Profumo Armani (Fresh Aquatic, Aromatic, Smoky) - Ah, the classic men's aromatic aquatic. I love the added sweet patchouli and touch of incense, and for a long time really filled holes in my collection with a lack of aquatic or for that matter smoky fragrances in it. One of my few designers that stands in there. Oh, I wrapped thread tape around my collar because it leaked slightly in shipping and I'm paranoid. But this guy isn't going anywhere.
Alexandria II Xerjoff (Warm Woody, Aromatic, Sweet) - Arguably Xerjoff's flagship fragrance, along with the previously mentioned Naxos. I resisted trying it for a long time because of oud's reputation as a stinky, fecal note but most oud fragrances don't lean heavily into that reputation. It turns out big businesses like making money, who knew? Eventually I got around to it, though, and I can't lie, this is good stuff. There's hardly any oud in it, but off my skin it's primarily a soapy lavender scent given a crisp and refreshing apple-cinnamon facelift. Almost like a fougere, or a slightly flavored Prada L'Homme. More versatile than it's given credit IMO.
Atomic Rose Initio (Fresh Green, Floral, Sweet) - Among my first niche purchases, in the original niche sample frenzy. A gloriously bright rose, a green stemmy one, atop a fluffy bed of sensual vanilla that takes over in the deep drydown. Quite versatile.
Aqua Sextius Jul et Mad (Fresh Green, Aquatic) - I picked up a sample of this, I believe, from Indigo Perfumery when sampling the exorbitantly expensive Strangelove NYC fragrances. This is somewhat the aquatic scent I always wanted AdGP to be, somewhat the mint fragrance I was always looking for, and yet somehow also neither of those things. Very idealized "chlorinated swimming pool" with a sinus-opening bright mint & eucalyptus combo swimming within a marine matrix.
Au Coeur du Desert Tauer (Warm Woody, Amber, Spicy, Smoky) - The higher-concentration flanker to critical darling L'Air du Desert Marocain, which put Andy Tauer on the map. I needed $7 to fill out my ScentSplit free birthday gift (of $20 value) and this was the #1 rated unisex fragrance on Parfumo at the time, and the price was right. I wasn't prepared for this to live up to the hype, but it's the #1 rated fragrance in my heart. 💙 A wonderfully complex mixture of dry spices and syrupy, balsamic amber. Not smoky per se, but the spices are so dry it can come across that way.
Bon Monsieur Rogue (Fresh Green, Fougere) - One of two Rogue Perfumery purchases, an indie house I stumbled across specifically in search of a fougere fragrance and heard good things about. Well, I'll say it's a damn good house pumping out vintage-inspired fragrances. BM itself is a classic "barbershop" fragrance smelling of shaving foam and green notes, bearing a surprising resemblance to an all-time classic, Drakkar Noir.
By the Yuzu Grove Galleria (Fresh Citrus, Woody) - Yes, a YouTuber scent. You can hate on my boy Ashton all you want, but he seems like a pretty above-board gentleman who just loves his hobby. This is a solid lemon-yuzu scent with a carbonated bubbliness to it on a light woody base, however I'll admit this is mostly only in my collection as a better-performing Yuzu substitute for the extremely expensive and poor-performing LV On the Beach. OTB is so good it turned me toward a yuzu scent hunt, like the prior mint and vanilla scent hunts I did. Also, this is discontinued and I did nab a backup bottle during the 75%-off clearout. $$$
Fig Infusion Essential (Fresh Fruity, Powdery) - Released right before I bought the incredible-value, bargain-price Essential Parfums discovery set. I didn't think I'd like it, and didn't think it could possibly out-do Divine Vanille which I had tried back during my vanilla frenzy, yet it ended up being my favorite of all. It's a light 'n' fresh powdery scent, lightly tinged by tea & figs. My skin usually eats fragrances but I get unusually strong performance from it.
Hawas For Him Rasasi (Fresh Aquatic, Fruity, Sweet) - One of three ever blind buys because hey it was cheap, it was getting a lot of hype, and I wanted something cheaper than AdGP to slot into that fresh aquatic hole in my collection. The supposed Invictus Aqua clone release before Invictus Aqua, so odds are it was probably more inspired by the original Invictus and maybe, just maybe, Paco Rabanne took inspiration back from Hawas to create Aqua? Eh, whatever. Solid if not somewhat screechy aquatic plum scent, and yes at a bargain price typical of these lower-end Middle Eastern houses. I may have grown out of it a bit, but I still think it smells pretty darned good. Not the summer banger I thought it'd be, it's more of an all-arounder due to the cinnamon warming it up slightly.
Homme EDP Guerlain (Fresh Green, Aromatic, Woody) - The first blind buy, because I wanted a sample during my mint search and I couldn't find any, but the 100mL bottle was $33 so... 💁 Immediately became THE cheapie staple of my collection. "The mojito fragrance." A fresh lime, mint & rum top on a base of blended woods, aromatics, and floral notes. Versatile, sophisticated, masculine fragrance that punches far above its weight.
Homme Intense Dior (Warm Woody, Floral, Powdery, Sweet) - #1a to ACDD's #1b. A community darling that also lives up to the hype for me. Oh-so-powdery, rich 'n' sweet, woody iris scent. The performance is actually kinda bad on my skin, though?
Infusion d'Oeillet Prada (Warm Floral, Powdery, Spicy) - After giving the Infusion lineup a try, this was the biggest standout: a cool and fresh, yet warm and spicy floral scent. Prada is best known as being the masters of soapy scents and the Infusion lineup is more or less predicated on a soapy water base "infused" with different flavoring agents. Oeillet is French for carnation -- which is weird because Prada is an Italian house but I digress -- and carnation smells like cloves, so it has this hot-n-cold thing going on which is unique and incredibly versatile. I had no particular plans to actually buy it though, but I couldn't pass up Jomashop selling 100mL bottles for $45. In fact, I regret not buying two to have a backup because this is a great cheapie staple to complement the more aquatic/fruity Hawas and green/woody Guerlain Homme.
London Widian (Warm Fruity, Leathery, Sweet) - Another scent I gave a chance to because it was a top-rated Parfumo scent, when I needed another throw-in for a Luckyscent discovery set order. It's a leather fragrance, and I know I don't generally like leather scents but I also kinda felt the need to have something in my collection representing such a major note. Well, this ended up blowing me away. The leather is supple, smooth, and drowned in a bath of rich raspberry syrup. Beautifully balanced, this is much less aggressive than its inspiration, Tuscan Leather. Surprisingly so, perhaps, since it also contains violet and oud.
meltmyheart Strangelove (Warm Floral, Woody, Sweet) - I was looking at chocolate scents, both to complement my vanilla deep dive and after being left unimpressed from Maison Tahite's offerings, and this is the big one that kept coming up. What's that? It costs what? Excuse me? Well f--- me because holy s--- this stuff smells good. Like a cup of spiced hot cocoa... with iris. Because iris is good. DHI dunked in bitter dark chocolate. Okay, compared side-by-side I honestly have to say I still prefer DHI. However, this performs better and you can damn well smell the quality here, which it better be for this price.
Mousse Illuminee Rogue (Fresh Green, Woody) - The second of Rogue; I couldn't decide between this and BM, so I bought the 30mL of both instead of a 100mL of one. This is a tactical nuke of treemoss & cypress very mentholated by bay leaf & tuberose, like a walk through the forest on a dewy morning. Maybe the pine-scented aftershave to BM's shaving foam. It's oddly addicting.
Oud Satin Mood Extrait MFK (Warm Floral, Sweet) - Along with Xerjoff, MFK was a house I sampled heavily in my original niche deep dive due to the amazing price of their choose-four sample packs. (Even now, on the new price-gouging American site, it's still an okay price.) It's hard to tell with this house, as some of their higher-concentration flankers smell way different from the original and others smell almost identical. Well, I didn't like the original Satin EDP because the benzoin goes sour on my skin. Extrait removes that and replaces it with cinnamon, one of my favorite notes, but also cranks the dial between the Oud and Rose all the way over to the Rose side of things. And what a gorgeous, brooding rose it is. Also, l*git [thanks, post filter] one of the beastliest performers in all of perfumery.
Pineapple Musk Dame (Fresh Fruity) - Dame Perfumery is another, depressingly unknown, American indie house. I believe I first came across them when looking at chocolate fragrances and found Chocolate Man, but their biggest claim to fame seems to be their spot-on soliflore scents. I bought Soliflore Peony for a friend because it was on half-price clearance, and that's what started my sample dive into them. Their individual samples are unfortunately overpriced, as much as their bottles are arguably underpriced, but you tend to get samples with bottle purchases and they offer occasional bundle deals that are great values. This was a new release with sample included in the Man Cologne sample bundle, and it turned out to be the pineapple scent I always wanted. No muss, no frills, no smelling like Aventus. Just an unpretentious fresh-cut pineapple scent on a bed of clean white musk. 🍍
Reflection Man Amouage (Fresh Floral, Woody, Powdery) - One of Amouage's flagships, and the recommended "beginner" scent as the outlier to Amouage's usual heavy, spicy Middle Eastern opulence. One of the more masculine white floral scents out there, very jasmine-forward with a sweet pop of pink pepper on a woody backdrop. Clean and versatile, like a Prada L'Homme that never goes soapy. I like it and it's actually fairly unique in the men's fragrance space.
Starlight Xerjoff (Warm Spicy, Sweet) - I was so blown away by this in my initial niche dive, it became my very first niche purchase. Retail, because Starlight was still a new release at the time... and it still took about two years before it became a regular appearance on discounters, so I'm not gonna complain about having overpaid. This is a cardamom bomb of unmatched quality, given a sparkling fresh spritz of bergamot that is evocative of its name and tinged with amber plus cinnamon. One of those "Christmas in a bottle" scents. Gourmand. Monster performance.
Sultan Royal Crown (Warm Sweet, Fruity, Smoky) - This was the ultimate winner of the vanilla search. A warm, syrupy vanilla-amber scent with just the right accents of dried fruits and smoked wood chips. Not too one-dimensional like some of the "pure" vanillas, but not taken over by the accent notes either. Comes across very smoky off my skin to a lot of my coworkers, but to me it's much more faint.
Uden Xerjoff (Fresh Citrus, Woody, Sweet) - Opens with an extremely photorealistic lemon, only to lead into a rum note that totally punches me in the face and steals my lunch money, drying down to sweet vanilla & woods. The rum note is intoxicating enough to have gotten me to buy it, eh. Somewhat of a niche version of Channel Allure Homme or Edition Blanche, with added rum plus much better performance.
Vanille Havane Les Indemodables (Warm Sweet, Spicy) - Another find of my vanilla deep dive, but the vanilla here is only a bit player and I actually ended up buying it as a tobacco scent. This is a boozy rum & dry tobacco leaf fragrance, sweetened with a rich swirl of chocolate & vanilla. A top-notch gourmand.
Virgin Mint Carolina Herrera (Fresh Green, Citrus) - It's always been hailed as a top-notch mint scent, but until recently I was never able to find a sample of it at good prices. What, it's discontinued? *sigh* Well, nonetheless I'm overdue giving it a shot... and it turned out to be the mint scent I wanted. Sorry, Aqua Sextius, you're an aquatic masquerading as a mint scent. Super bright, but it uses spearmint which is much sweeter and smoother than the kind used in most other mint fragrances. It's not toothpasty and artificial, yet not bitter green like some of the more realistic "muddled leaves" mints. 🌿
And also addressing the mini Outremer Bergamote + Florale, which I bought to assess their performance because they did smell really good in the store when I finally found myself near an Anthropologie:
Bergamote - Like cutting into an underripe, lemon-limey bergamot. Crisp and refreshing, yet lacking in juice. It has a clean musky base and seemingly some faint white florals to smooth out any edges. Performance is terrible, but at this price point you can't complain.
Florale - A mixed bouquet of primarily pink flowers, soft and dusty almost like crushed freeze-dried petals. Rose, iris, and carnation seem to be the main players to me, the latter noticed through the clove-like spiciness present. I love powdery scents, so this is quite up my alley, and the performance is actually quite moderate.
I've also tried Vanille in the past, should be in the vanilla review topic? Smells almost exactly like Ligne St. Barth's Vanille West Indies and punches far above its weight, but I'm not going to pretend it's among my most favorite.
Part II: The other stuff.
There's 24 fragrances in my collection, not including the mini Outremer bottles. If I had to, how would I rank them?
  • Tier 1: Au Coeur du Desert, Dior Homme Intense
  • Tier 1.5: Uden, Oud Satin Mood Extrait, meltmyheart, Pineapple Musk
  • Tier 2: Starlight, Alex II, London, Sultan, Bon Monsieur, Mousse Illuminee, Infusion d'Oeillet, Vanilla Havane, Atomic Rose, Fig Infusion, Virgin Mint
  • Tier 3: 400, Aqua Sextius, Guerlain Homme, Acqua di Gio Profumo, By the Yuzu Grove, Reflection Man
  • Tier 4: Hawas, (Bergamote, Florale)
Hawas is the only one I've ranked a 9.0/10 on Parfumo, the rest are rated 9.5/10 (Tier 3) or 10/10 (Tier 2+). I can't find a better replacement that isn't exorbitantly expensive, but as prices increase over time I may just have to up my limit of what I consider "cheapie" from $50/100mL (or $0.50/mL) to $100/100mL ($1/mL) anyway and then I'd probably say Pineapple Musk is now the new cheapie in that fruity niche of my collection.
If I were to grind this down to a more focused collection, Hawas would definitely go. Aqua Sextius will go once my travel spray is empty, as I've "replaced" it with Virgin Mint as a mint scent even though Aqua Sextius is still a banger of an aquatic... As much as I respect Starlight for being my first niche purchase, it's the most redundant with my other gourmand/amber scents and shares the most similarities with ACDD. One of the Rogues would probably go, 400 would probably go, Yuzu Grove ideally wouldn't have to exist in the first place. That brings me down to 18, and I could bring it down to 10-12 if I had to (but I won't here).
Parfumo's newly introduced Profiler tool gives us stats! But they're not super helpful since it does things like separate "Cedar" from "Cedarwood" as a note, etc. So here's some of my own.
Fresh/Summer vs Warm/Winter scents, as based on subjective interpretation of Parfumo/Fragrantica votes rather than my personal opinion:
  • Fresh - 8
  • Either - 6
  • Warm - 10
My opinion is that most scents can be worn anytime, especially since in most cases modern humans are in climate-controlled spaces a majority of the time. Only the absolute heaviest or lightest would I nominally adhere rigidly to their supposed uses only, but nonetheless I think I'm fairly well-balanced. That was always the original intent of my curating.
Gender split, same process as above:
  • Masc - 13
  • Unisex - 8
  • Femme - 3 (Atomic Rose, Infusion d'Oeillet, 400)
The majority of niche scents are marketed as unisex anyway, because why not sell to twice as many people? Fragrances don't have genders, only people do, but people generally listen to marketing. I have owned two explicitly femme-marketed fragrances in the past: Acqua di Gioia was my first ever perfume purchase, mostly because I thought it was Acqua di Gio but it is a nice fresh smell nonetheless, and Light Blue Eau Intense where something they put in the male side of that line just smells like BO to me. LB Intense was a contender for the Hawas cheapie spot, being much more of a pure freshie appropriate for slightly different situations, but ultimately I leaned in favor of Hawas.
Type split, by subjective personal placement on the standard fragrance wheel: Fresh, Floral, Woody, Ambery
  • Fresh - 13
  • Floral - 7
  • Woody - 11
  • Ambery - 8
Many fragrances go in multiple categories. Again, I think I am relatively balanced. You might think this chart is at odds with the Fresh/Warm chart, but it's mostly that fresh scents are more likely to end up in the "either" category than warm scents.
Note breakdown of collection:
  • Citrus: Bergamot(8), Orange(7), Lemon(5), Grapefruit(2), Lime(1), Yuzu(1), Clementine(1), "Citrus notes"(1)
  • Other Fruits: Apple(3), Pineapple(2), Fig(2), Plum(2), Date(1), Raspberry(1), Melon(1), Pear(1), Almond(1), "Fruity notes"(1)
  • Resins & Sweets: Vanilla(8), Amber(6), Frankincense(3), Cistus/Labdanum(2), Cocoa(2) "Balsamic notes"(2), Honey(1), Benzoin(1), Fir balsam(1), Myrrh(1)
  • Herbs & Spices: Cinnamon(4), Lavender(2), Cardamom(2), Ginger(2), Rosemary(2), "Spices"(2), Saffron(1), Pink pepper(1), Sichuan pepper(1), Sage(1), Clary sage(1), Cloves(1), Nutmeg(1)
  • Florals: Rose(7), Jasmine(5), Geranium(4), Iris/Orris(3), Violet(3), Ylang-ylang(3), Lily-of-the-valley(3), Orange blossom(3), Carnation(2), "White flowers"(2), Neroli(1), Freesia(1), Magnolia(1), Mimosa(1), "Floral notes"(1)
  • Woods: Cedar(13), Sandalwood(10), Oud(5), Cypress(2), Guaiacwood(2), Rosewood(1), "Woody notes"(1)
  • Leafy Greens & Other Plants: Patchouli(9), Vetiver(5), Oakmoss/Treemoss(3), Mint(3), Tobacco(2), Styrax(1), Artemesia(1), Ambrette(1), Bay leaf(1), Ceylon tea(1), Coffee(1), Eucalyptus(1), Orange leaf(1), "Green notes"(1)
  • Miscellaneous: Musk(9), Ambergris/Ambroxan(4), Rum(3), Leather(2), Aquatic/Marine notes(2)
I lumped ambergris and ambroxan together because many brands say ambergris in the note breakdown and we all know they aren't using real ambergris. MFK readily admits that, for example, and that's a high-end brand. It's probably safe to assume it's never real ambergris unless the brand goes out of their way to ensure you it is, such as with Les Indemodables Escale en Indonesie. Besides, ambroxan is the main olfactive constituent of the real stuff.
Is there anything particularly insightful here? Eh, not really IMO. I would say my favorite notes include Iris, Cinnamon, Lavender, Jasmine, Basil, Mint... mostly not reflected by the numbers here. Rose randomly pops up as an unnoticed mid note in a lot of things. Obviously musk is a common fixative, but I suppose I'm a bit surprised by patchouli. Maybe I shouldn't be, with its infamy in hippie culture if it can cover up weed smell. Cedar is kind of a default woody scent, and likewise bergamot as a citrus. Bergamot is strange, since it (or its analogous aromachemicals) can more or less emulate most other citruses and sometimes non-citrus fruits (especially pineapple) depending how it's used, plus it's not really a citrus fruit commonly available for eating.
Any regrets?
I've sampled heavily and curated from the beginning. Kinda wish I didn't sell my 150mL Prada L'Homme for $80 shortly before Prada started becoming scarce and pricy on discounters, though. At the very least I probably could've gotten $120+ for it without waiting too long, but honestly I'd love to have kept it and use it as a generic "I can't afford to offend anyone but still want to go the extra mile" scent. I rated it a 9.5 on Parfumo well in hindsight, and Infusion d'Oeillet a 10, but I think they're on-par and could stand to bump L'Homme up to a 10/10 too. Meh. Pineapple Musk somewhat fits that role now, not to mention Oeillet of course, but neither are quite the same.
Part III: What if...?
I decided to do a fun exercise here. With the exception of Hawas as above, all of my collection I've rated 9.5 or 10 on Parfumo. But I've 70-ish fragrances I've given that rating to! So, why don't I own them?
All 10/10's:
  • Xerjoff Symphonium - I did own, as a chocolate fragrance. I sold it for roughly cost when I bought meltmyheart.
  • Tauer L'Air du Desert Marocain - Redundant with ACDD, of course, which I slightly prefer. LDDM leans more dry and herbal, ACDD leans more syrupy and ambery.
  • Mercedes-Benz Club Black - Eh, cheapie I finally tried long after buying Sultan and ACDD. It's not as good as them, but it's still quite an excellent vanilla and at a bargain price so I agree with the hype. Performance is solid overall, however the vanilla fades in the drydown to straight ambroxan.
  • M.Micallef Note Vanillee - I liked it enough to buy a 10mL decant to evaluate further. The boozy vanilla Guerlain SDV wishes it was. However, performance is subpar and it dries down to... straight jasmine? Still smells good but I wish it stayed smelling like the opening the whole time, same with Club Black except this one ain't cheap.
  • MFK Baccarat Rouge 540 - I did own the small bottle, but I resold it because I literally never found myself wearing it. Very mid on paper, but on skin it radiates such a pleasant sweetness.
  • Roja Elysium Parfum Cologne - Heavenly smell, abhorrent performance for its price point. I don't like the Parfum as much because it's more dense, which I sometimes find true of other concentration flankers. Also, I have not tried the new Eau Intense yet!
  • Perris MC Arancia di Sicilia - Amazing blood orange + iris + cinnamon + vanilla scent. The peak form of MFK Amyris Homme. Bought a decant but I decided the performance isn't quite up to par. However, it's close enough I'd probably buy a bottle still if I stumbled onto a great deal.
  • Maison Tahite Vanilla² - Best pure vanilla on the market, and excellent performance to boot. If I didn't already own Sultan, I'd probably pocket the extra money to have bought this first instead but I also like Sultan's little additives.
  • LV On the Beach - This is the #1c to DHI + ACDD. Unfortunately, performance is so bad I'm not sure I'd own it at half the price.
  • City Rhythm Austin - Redundant. More or less Vanille Havane without the cacao.
Select 9.5/10's:
  • Xerjoff Accento Overdose - Strong pineapple musk scent, but there's something a little off about the musk that dissuaded me from moving from decant to full bottle. Huge performance, though Dame's Pineapple Musk smells better anyway.
  • Xerjoff Renaissance - My first mint love, but performance wasn't up to par.
  • V&R Spicebomb Extreme - Owned it before I got into niche. Sold it because Starlight obsoletes it IMO.
  • Unique'e Akdeniz - Very unique, very powerful marine-pineapple-leather scent. The opening is kinda rough, and I decided against buying this when I purchased London as a leather scent and Pineapple Musk as a pineapple scent.
  • Electimuss Imperium - Somewhere between Aventus + Ani + Hacivat. It's a very good vanilla-forward freshie, to be certain, but it's similar enough to Uden I can't pull the trigger.
  • Scents of Wood Plum in Cognac - Another hype beast that lives up to it IMO, I just have no particular impetus to own it. In part due to the confusing manner in which the company sells their product, in part because I have both plum and rum surprisingly well represented in my collection already. Also, stains like heck.
  • Margiela Whispers in the Library - Owned it. Decided it was too soft-spoken after all, I barely wore it for that reason, plus I was starting to own too many vanilla scents.
  • Essential Divine Vanille - Owned it, but I was always on the fence about it and sold it once I started buying my top vanillas same with WitL.
  • PDM Pegasus - Bought a decant along with Reflection Man, but this one fell on the losing side. Performance was passable, just not 100% sold on the scent enough to nab the bottle. A nice, if divisive, metallic vanilla. A slightly better niche version of Dior Hypnotic Poison, which is funny because that's femme-marketed and this is masc-marketed.
You can check out the full list here if you want, I suggest sorting by Scent (popular) and selecting List mode. And I think I'll leave it at that. I hope I managed to entertain a few people with my excessive blabbing! I'll probably come back from Miami with a whole new crop of Discovery Sets in tow, and maybe a visit/review post for Osme Perfumery (if even allowed *ahem*). Until then, fragrance.
