[JB CM SEPT ß-2/10] Septenary 'Fundamentals'

2024.05.12 21:09 JoelCanon [JB CM SEPT ß-2/10] Septenary 'Fundamentals'

[JB CM SEPT ß-1/10] Septenary REDDIT
CM Septenary DRIVE
Hello and good day worldbuilding to day 2 out of 10 of my release of Septenary, one of the creative tools I made while working on a project called 'Canon Mode.' The first link is the link to yesterday's first post of this Reddit series, while the second is a link to the actual Septenary files/documents on Google Drive. Today we'll be exploring more in depth about the first file in the 'CM Septenary COLOGRAYSCALE' folders to take a look at what these septenaries are actually all about.
CM SEPT 1 Fundamentals SHEET COLOR
CM SEPT 1 Fundamentals SHEET GRAYSCALE
The first thing that becomes apparent when looking at either of these two spreadsheets is that they're exactly the same apart from one being color and the other being grayscale. The color distinction made between the two does not bear any real significance between how the two spreadsheets function. While the difference is almost entirely an aesthetic one, the color designs of each septenary do have their own purposes and reasons they were formatted that way.
Septenaries are created using a specific format, which isn't important now but will be explored later. The significance of this specific format though is that when you take multiple septenaries and line them next to each other that there will be rows that line up that are created in which all of the items in the particular row all correlate or match with each other somehow. These in themselves create their own groups, which arguably could then develop their own personalities.
(SEPTENARY Fundamentals)
The original intent with the 'Fundamentals' septenary was to create an outline or template that could be used as a starting point of the most general all-encompassing characteristics or qualities you'd need to go on further in creating a fictional universe. Each individual septenary that makes up the complete 'Fundamentals' septenary has their own description which is defined by seven unique parts.
{Champion}
The first septenary in the 'Fundamentals' septenary is the 'Champion' group. This group was placed first because typically the first thing to do when creating a new world is to create a character. Each champion offers a starting point when creating a character. To understand this and where to start it helps to also know how these champions are meant to be defined as. They look something like the following.
  1. Champion: a champion is masterful
  2. Saint: a saint is benevolent
  3. Chief: a chief is leaderly
  4. Sage: a sage is intellectual
  5. Hero: a hero is selfless
  6. Seer: a seer is a visionary
  7. Noble: a noble is honorable
  8. Heretic: a heretic is malevolent
{Attributes}
The 'Attributes' septenary is another that was created with the intent to aid along with character creation. If one were to notice while reading this septenary they'd see that all of the definitions describe the types of particular beings that could be made and not necessarily what the actual individual entities themselves. Therefore one could say they want a humanoid with mystical attributes, or maybe a bird with mechanical attributes, or even a tree with extraterrestrial attributes. The attributes septenary is considerably vague but the advantage to that is it offers a very wide and general overview of what one could possibly customize their characters or worlds with.
{Environment}
While this septenary might look simple at first glance in reality there are some parts missing which are only further defined and described in the 'FUNDAMENTALS Extended' Septenary [CM SEPT 2 Fundamentals Extended SHEET COLOGRAYSCALE]. Generally speaking though 'Cosmos' describes space and lunar environments, 'Cityscape' describes city and urban sprawl, 'Oceanic' describes ocean and coastal regions, highlands describes mountains and tundra, Terra describes forests and hills and other features like rivers and lakes, Arid describes desert and rocky areas, and lowland describes plains and fields.
{Axiom Forces}
The Axiom Forces septenary was the original septenary created for this project and acted as the inspiration for the septenary project to begin with. This grouping is a bit more complex, but the general idea when first creating this septenary was in creating a list of fundamental forces that accounted for everything else in existence. That's why it's included in the Fundamentals septenary to begin with, is that because with enough creativity you could use these seven forces to create anything else you might be able to imagine.
The inspiration for Axiom Forces septenary came while working on another worldbuilding project called Dokimi, a fictional universe where anything is possible. The story and lore regarding the origin of this fictional universe began with seven champions who existed at the beginning of time as the manifestations of these axiom forces. When coming up with different fundamental forces to be used for this purpose there seemed to be a problem though. While trying to come up with as many ideas as possible for more axiom forces there seemed to be an arbitrary limit of seven items or forces that could be listed before the list started becoming redundant. It didn't matter what was done, because seemingly a list of these forces could not be created with more than 7 items before it started repeating ideas.
{Conviction}
A conviction is a firmly held belief or opinion, and in particular that specific word was chosen to define this septenary for an explicit reason. So what exactly is the reason for naming this septenary category something else like "belief" or "faith"? Because everyone has conviction! It doesn't matter what you know, who you are, or what you are are aware of or have been exposed to. Because you, along with everyone else, are already convinced of whatever held beliefs you or they might already hold in relation to the rest of existence. In relation to everything you and anyone else might be unaware of you can still believe, disbelieve, or hold certain beliefs and opinions about these things you've never been exposed to.
"Why is the conviction septenary considered 'Fundamental' anyways?"
Well... Because arguably someone's conviction is a fundamental part of who they are. It might not offer much customizability or personalization, but often someone's conviction plays a key or fundamental role in how one interacts with others and the world around them.
Anecdote: In my fictional universe Dokimi it is a known fact that God exists and is a part of the universe. What's debated then is what God is and actually does. Considering this the case there are still groups of atheists in Dokimi despite the known fact of God's existence. What Dokimi atheists instead claim to believe is that this being that is supposedly God isn't actually God and is just some scientific anomaly that's purely rational and can be explained with conventional logic and science.
{Existential}
The 'Existential' septenary is meant to illustrate the base things people consider brings meaning to life. This is by no means a full list of things that make life meaningful. That is, unless one were to be clever with how they define these items. Then after doing such this septenary has more potential in being able to account for anything else you might or could consider meaningful in life.
These definitions are also not exactly what create or generate meaning in life. For example, two of the things that create meaning in life are hedonism and growth (if you can think of anymore let me know ;). The seven meanings in this septenary instead are things that can bring reason and purpose to one's life which then goes on to create meaning. The difference? Well it's complicated, but basically it's to say something like prosperity creates reason or purpose which makes us feel good or does something else good which is then something that could be considered meaningful.
{Civil}
This final septenary is supposed to encompass cultural and societal customs and ideals. It alone might not as much give specific ideas of what societies might look like, but what it does offer is a base for how one interacts alongside other individuals and entities. You'd have to go into the 'Fundamentals Extended' [CM SEPT 2 Fundamentals Extended SHEET COLOGRAYSCALE] spreadsheet for more context of what this septenary is actually about.
[Conclusion]
And so that's the 'Fundamentals' septenary in a nutshell. It sort of seems like its started slow, and I imagine a lot of this might not make much sense with such little context. More context is coming, there's a lot of info to unpack though and I intend to continue for the next week and a half or so doing my best to explain the madness of my methods. That's all for today though, I hope you're all having a wonderful day and take care for now!

I know there's some great art and a paragraph that explains the environment of the world class but It's not painting a picture in my mind.

2024.04.29 06:05 iMecharic Fire's not producing Light?

Exactly as the title says, I have somehow broken the light-producing aspect of fires. Not for all fires, either, for some of them. Campfires and wildfires (vanilla) work, as do the Signal Fire (Tribal Signal Fire Continued) and Stone Campfire (Vanilla Furniture Expanded). Confirmed not-working-right-now-but-used-to-work are the Large Fire (VFE: Tribals), Hearthfire & Fireplace (LTS Furnishing). I honestly have no idea what could even be causing this, though my going theory is that it's the extra stuff in the deffs where it declares lighting. (If so, how can I fix that?)
(Here's hoping my attempt at using a header to collapse my modlist works. Sorry if it doesn't.)

2024.04.27 23:53 LoanLazy5992 The Creation of Gaiya and it's geographical areas:

The Creation of Gaiya and it's geographical areas:
Blue (Top Left): Harana Atoll- A beautiful remote atoll with hot sun and volcanic springs, when humans are created it will be a holiday spot
Orange: Chavandra Savanna- A hot and arid savanna, many baobab trees grow and rhino's roam, however it is remote, sandwiched between the Guvra River and the Ulma Mountain range.
Black: Ulma Mountain Range- The largest mountain range in Gaiya, treacherous but vast in resources.
Red: Mushroom Forest- A mystical place, many sources of food are around here, but spore sickness can wipe out whole civilisations in minutes.
Dark Blue: Keryan Swamp- A muddy hell, many small rivers weave in and out, a no go for new humans soon to be created, yet it acts as a band splitting its area in two Green: The fertile Band- A huge band around the globe full of fertile land for harvesting and living, the best place for any new civilisation to grow and develop
Blue (Bottom): Gifivili Tundra-, a harsh forest, where cold ones lurk to destroy intruders in their land, a few cold ones colonies have spawned here, a challenge to new humans.
Grey: Crimson Orelands- A giant stony wilderness filled to the brim with Gold, iron and other precious metals, any civilisation that develops here will do it with the aid of the ores, much faster than anyone else
Purple: Land of 4 crossings- a giant crossroads between many biomes, horrible place to life as infernal, cursed and freezing cold biomes all collide here, or will be one to conquer.
White: North Pole- The northernmost point of the world, and covered in icy tundra, who will claim it

Clockwise Earth WWF Biomr map by Molotovsnowman
A sequel to the previous post on my profile regarding Koppen maps and climate simulation, this is a WWF style biome map designed by Molotovsnowman who used to be a user here for a Retrograde Earth timeline as shown on my last post about a backward spinning Earth.
This one shows the more “functional” side of different climates, a world where certain biomes now are radically different in distribution to our own timeline. This isn’t as nuanced as the videos or Koppen classification, but it does show the environments as they would appear in biological terms. This is a map of reality for a comparison.
As you can see, taiga’s go considerably further south in west coasts and less so in east coasts, and the distribution of resources would be very different here.

2024.04.16 20:39 sulalaila Twastoni Mythology: Full Version[Without Hyphens so it doesn't break again]

This version of Twastoni Mythology doesn't have the Pүkðodīnⱻ in it, so go to that other post for it(was too lazy to replace all the hyphens with equal signs in the new update to the god list, but I accidentally left a few hyphens in other things and nothing bad happened so maybe it wont happen here)
If you have any ideas for improvements to the existing stuff or completely new ideas, put it in the lounge(maybe this will actually get all those ''idk'' out of hiding).
Twastonia Mythology: Guide to the Pantheons
....................................................................................
1: Primordial Gods = First Generation of Deities, born from Ahu. He used his Flames of Creation and conjured the components of Spirit[Huzɛ𐑆hu], Matter[Placeholder: Aföȼtƨ], and Heart[Жœƞɍ]. From the components came all the other Primordials, who waged war against each other and completely wiped themselves out. The Boʂōyon rose from their blood and tears, mending the new world created by their deaths, and brought order to the Realms.
2: Boʎʂōyon Gods = Second Generation of Deities, who rose from the blood and tears of the Dead Primordials and brought order to the Realms. After centuries of their rule, they became corrupted by their vast power, which would eventually cause the Second War where Twastōs and his siblings[formerly Boʎʂōyon] overthrew the Boʎʂōyon and brought peace to the Realms.
3: Twastoni Gods = Third and Final Generation of Deities, who overthrew the Boʎʂōyon and brought true peace and order to the Realms. After overthrowing them and imprisoning them in Hell, they created Mankind, each of the gods creating vital parts of them such as the Body, Soul, Heart and Emotion, Blood, etc. Even today, Mankind worships the Twastoni Gods, idolizing and immortalizing them in statues, pottery, paintings and more.

Since mankind was the creation of Twɑstōs and his other gods, Twɑstōs made sure that mankind had a safe place to hide to avoid extinction by the meteor, and that the Ʂōyaɣⱻdи all perished. After the Ʂōyaɣⱻdи’s extinction, Mankind rebuilt their lands and Twɑstōs came to Hɛrrɑƞ’s nest, engaging her in a fight that led to Hɛrrɑƞ’s death[Name Meaning: Great Lizard].

Vossakhan’s death causes the sea to swallow the lands, Ȼepaŋ’s death causes the sun to disappear, Zeþʏreus’ death pierces the heavens and causes storms to ravage the lands, and so on. However, upon killing a Primordial God, their deaths will cause the creation of new things[since they are the embodiments of what they represent], such as Mādhaɣ́ɛz’s death causing the Earth to be created.
3: Mythology Note = The only way to kill or damage a god is to be a god yourself, use Soul Essence based Attacks, deflect their attacks in some way, or use a Divine Weapon.
4: Elements of Vossakhan = Vossakhan obviously has access to the element of water, since he’s the God of the Sea. He also has power over Arctic Waters and Sea Storms, giving him the(limited) powers of Ice and Electricity. Vossakhan’s design could be somewhat eldritch since he is both a protector[Rain, Water] and destroyer[Tsunamis, Storms], with tentacles, crab legs, and other features of a sea creature.
5: The Mountain Empire = There was an empire within Twastonia called Akɑ̄tton which had a main city built on the tallest Mountain in Twastonia. The people living there believed that by creating a Kingdom on that Mountain, they had a closer connection to the Gods, especially Zeþʏreus, the God of Thunder. Also, the appearance of Akakɑ̄tto[the Boʂōyon deity Akɑ̄tton is named after] is a bulky humanoid made out of pure stone, with jagged spikes on his body referencing Mountains, as well as a large Mountain on his head and a beard made out of Stone.
6: Twastoni Warship, The Metalmaw = Twastoni Warship with a massive metal maw full of iron teeth replacing the entire Bow of the Ship, controlled by a lever that must be pulled up to open the maw and down to close it. When an enemy ship is in front of the Metalmaw, a certain Crewmember will use the lever to open the maw and then bite down, tearing off a huge chunk of the victim ship and sometimes igniting the enemy’s gunpowder, decimating the entire ship.
7: Afterlife of Twastonia = Mōɹʈobℓɪжa is the afterlife of Twastoni Mythology and has multiple areas, such as the Judgment Place which is where souls are judged, the Heaven which is where the pure souls go, the Hell which is where all the wicked and evil souls go, the Hall of Battle which is where the souls who have died in honorable battle go, and the Mourning Fields which is where the souls who have wasted their lives on false love go.
8: The Boʂōyon Pantheon = Before the Twastoni Gods and their Pantheon, there were very egotistical and interfering gods that are known as the ‘’Boʂōyon’’ and formerly as the Jatte. One Boʂōyon, the parent of Twastos and his siblings, was tired of the long tyranny of the Boʂōyon Gods and decided to secretly teach Twastos to not be power-obsessed and egotistical. Eventually, Twastōs and his siblings overthrew these tyrannous gods, banished them to the Netherworld and brought true peace to the country(and realms) of Twastonia.
9: Ahu, The Creator of Reality = The followers of Twastoni Mythology believed that the Primordials couldn’t have come from nothing, therefore there would have to be a creator of everything. Ahu, literally meaning God in Twastonian, created the concepts of Spirit, Matter and Heart[with his Flames of Creation] from which the other Primordials came from, as well as reality and existence itself. Ahu also created the Spires of Existence, a range of towering spires that hold every Dimension, Reality and Universe, similar to the Multiverse Theory. He, or it, unlike all of the Deities descending from him, is also the only one present everywhere in the Omniverse[the transfinite set of all the universes that exist within the vastness of Infinity].
10: God of Imprisonment and the Mōɹʈobℓɪжa Deities = The God of Imprisonment, [Unnamed], is one of the deities in Mōɹʈobℓɪжa and has a chain-like whip as both a main weapon and symbol. Just by looking at the rusty, demonic metal ‘’clothing’’ and mounted skulls, you can clearly tell he is the God of Slaves. The other Mōɹʈobℓɪжa Deities include Twastarus[the Ruler], Oƶeyfʏr[Void God, lives in the deepest reaches of the Afterlife that receives no light], Voℓzmүstos[Mist God, represents the Darkness and Silence after death], Hɛrrɑƞ[Beast Goddess, is trapped in Hell along with the Boʂōyon Gods, her Brood and the deceased Beast King who was slain by Ḣaℓdeus], Maℓoɪd́in[Necromancy God, puts curses on both the living and the dead], Tīkⱻos[Sorrow God, watches over the River where he eternally laments and spreads the sadness to those who trespass], Byenos[Blessing Goddess, watches over the Afterlife’s Heaven and gives blessings to the pure souls], Xāraria[Diseases, infects the living and dead worlds with plagues]. Once the Anger Deity has a name, I might add him here too. The other inhabitants of Mōɹʈobℓɪжa are the Mōrƫalis, a group of deities who embody the ways you can die and are the only living Primordials. These are Āqamōrƫa[Drowning], Ħahi𝼃mōrƫa[Burning], Maℓomōrƫa[By Magic], Zɛþʏrmōrƫa[Lightning], Ōξomōrƫa[Poison], Paxnƞmōrƫa[Freezing], Ꞥɪŋgɛnmōrƫa[By Own Species], Sɜꜭɛnomōrƫa[Old Age], Жᑫƞɍmōrƫa[Heartbreak], Oξүɣ́enomōrƫa[Asphyxation], Tʋordmōrƫa[Being Crushed] and Ambaꞩmōrƫa[Decompression].
11: Æoℓeon and the Wind Steeds = Æoℓeon was apart of the Boʂōyon Pantheon, the old rulers of Twastonia and the other Realms, and was the God of Wind and Storms. He sat on the Wind Chariot, pulled by four horse deities known as the Wind Steeds who brought the Seasons and the Directional Winds and were Ꞥƨrthaoℓ[Winter, North Wind], Zɛfүraoℓ[Spring, West Wind], Yugoaoℓ[Autumn, South Wind], and Evrəaoℓ[Summer, East Wind]. The appearance of Yugoaoℓ is a humanoid god made out of pure bark, with a crest made out of autumn leaves, and a staff with an orb that holds the power of Autumn and East Wind.
12: Eleven Most Powerful Deities, from Strongest to Weakest[Twastoni Pantheon] = Twastōs[King], Ʂjǣnja[Cosmos], Zeþʏreus[Skies], Āwrazatūr[Earth], Vossakhan[Oceans], Twastarus[Afterlife], Ḣaℓdeus[War], Ȼepaŋ[Sun], Paxnƞɪyur[Winter], Ogōństhur[Volcanoes] and Nүxtzia[Moon].
13: The Creation of Humanity = After the Twastoni Gods overthrew the tyrannous Boʂōyon, they decided to create an entirely new creature in their image: Humans. Most of the gods of the time of Mankind’s Creation took part in making them – Twastōs gave them Mind, Mādaxatūn gave them Heart, Twastarus gave them Soul, Vossakhan gave them Blood, Ȼepaŋ gave them Sight, and Āwrazatūr gave them Life and Body. Humanity would then worship the new gods for many years and centuries, making statues of them, praying to them, and immortalizing them in paintings, pottery and more.
14: The Price of Arrogance = The Unnamed God of Arrogance once lived among the Twastoni Gods in Pãɐotunan, his raging hubris causing him to mock them. After his arrogance grew completely out of control, he decided it was a good idea to challenge Twastōs for his throne, who heeded the call and came to fight. Even though Twastōs was holding back and stretching out the battle for sport and entertainment, the God of Arrogance was easily beaten, and then got a harsh punishment by being beaten until he could not stand, thrown off Pãɐotunan and then locked inside a secure, hidden prison to control his arrogance.
15: The Twastoni Pantheon could be split into a Higher and Lower Part. The Higher Pantheon contains all the main and most powerful gods, while the Lower Pantheon[or Lesser Pantheon] contains the minor and weakest gods. There could also be a Middle Pantheon that contains the gods that are not the most powerful or the weakest gods.
16: Henrique’s Version of Twastos’ History = ‘’Twastos was originally the Boʂōyon ‘’Pãɐthos’’, and was known by the other gods by his initial title: the heat manipulator. Seeing how the other Boʂōyon were becoming more and more corrupted, he reunited with the other gods that have gone undercover due to their pride and egos and have founded a powerful army, named constrastingly as the ‘’Menʂōyon’’. Once the Menʂōyon won the war against the Boʂōyon, Pãɐthos changed his name to Twastos and, with the other Menʂōyon, created humans in their image, each of them giving separate parts of their beings. After hundreds of thousands of years, either by Ahu’s or Twastos’ will, he was killed to then be reborn as a human and aid the human race. After dying as a human, Twastos was reborn as a god and reseized the Pãɐotunan Throne. As he, as a human, used his thermokinesis powers to bake and cook food and bread for his followers, he decided to give up his ‘’Heat Manipulator’’ title and replaced it with the title of ‘’God of Baking’’, not only because he enjoyed assisting humans that much, but also because he wanted to keep a low profile and not grab even more attention from others’’. The Menʂōyon Pantheon changed their name to ''The Twastoni'' due to their leader, Twastos.
17: The Seven Elements = Believers of Twastonism consider that there are five elements that compose all of the areas of the universe, however, only a few people believe that there are actually seven of these elements: Fire[Plasma], Heat[Energy, Acceleration], Air[Gas], Earth[Solid], Cold[Energy, Deceleration], Water[Liquid] and Void[Vacuum].
18: Protector Deities[Twastoni Pantheon] = Twastos, Mādaxatūn, Vošacatūɹ, Nүxtzia, Ȼepaŋ, Lāɋarius, Āwrazatūr, Markåth, Ꞩheƞos, Yɍeɍro, W̶ƞⱻ, Totōeo, Twastune, Aɣāpƞi, Fɛthas, Uwākunn, Byenos, Aƽāȼahu, Dɍzŋæfℓ, Ʂektoƞia, Jɛ̃kɪn, Serenos, Domʋardas.
19: Destroyer Deities[Twastoni Pantheon] = H́aℓdeus, Oƶeyfʏr, Ogōństhur, Twastarus, Oasɪrus, Voℓzmүstos, Maℓoɪd́in, Tīkⱻos, Xāraria.
20: Protector and Destroyer Deities[Twastoni Pantheon] = Vossakhan, Zeþʏreus, Paxnƞɪyur, Ʂjǣnja, Ƞɪzḿaꞥit́, Үítnəv.

2024.04.12 19:44 LeCheechio I bought Rimworld 4 days ago and got 40.1 hours played and I worked in a restaurant for 3 of those days in real life.

I got the game because I love Kenshi and Mount and Blade and Project Zomboid, and my friend bought me FTL for xmas last year when I got him Project Zomboid so that too. It looked like it vibed simillar to those games.
I've been quite evil to my self though. I keep trying over and over again on this seed I made as a homage to Heavy Metal 2000. FAKK-2. And the world settings are very hot and arid. Most of the world is extreme desert and there are Tundras in the polar regions. Every civilization is hostile except for one tribe and one outpost. Population is sparse. I've been playing on Adventure difficulty with Cassandra Classic as the story teller and commitment mode.
So many stories of.. how the crashlanders fail. Most of them when I started were getting wiped by heatstroke. Then I started getting better at saving wood, and skipping wood for building and going straight to stone. But then often, the party would kill each other due to starvation just before the first harvest was ready. Then I started just murdering the pet that comes with the team at the start and cooking it asap. Among other priorities was to lock up all the ration packs behind closed doors so iguanas did not eat any.
That first play through I did that was great. All the party were men, two were ex military. They had room jealousy issues but were mostly fine. Sometimes would have insulting sprees but it was chill. I got power going fast and set up air conditioning. When it came to naming the team they became known as "The Dust Boyz" as a reference to Kenshi's Dust Bandits. Kept getting raided by women, and I tried capturing them to see what would happen. I kept two prisoners for AGES before realising there was a prisoners tab to change what you do with them. So it was like, these three lads have a room full of naked women held prisoners. Anyway, randoms also joined. Two men. One called Lines and the other one was Henry or something. Harris (one of the starting crew) and Henry (a guy who joined) went out to explore this mission where there was a stash of goods. And I got cocky and was like omg look at all these steel ruins, I sure could use the steel, and started deconstructing everything. The two were split up, and I did not think to check their health before sending them out. It turned out Henry had food poisoning and he literally started hurling for a REALLY long time. Like longer than usual. Then Harris walked near teh stash building which triggered an ambush. It was one naked with a knife, so I was like this is ez. And told my guys to go contront him. But Harris was far away and Henry was still throwing up. The knife man rushed Henry and started to melee him. Henry was using a pistol so he got screwed up. Then Harris who had a bolt action missed three shots on the guy and also got taken out. So I thought they were gone for ever. So I focused on recruiting the women. I worked out how to recruit them after the two guys died.
During the process I got a message saying I could save Harris, and cuz Harris was the father of one of my starting characters it was a high priority. So After we recruit some of the prisoners, Lines and Harris' son go out to try and save Harris. But when we get there there are turrets everywhere. I try and pick them off from a distance, but then one dude with a sniper came and one shot both my dudes.
So with only one of the Dust Boyz left I decided he called it quits and the two women both from the same hostile that we had converted would have convinced him to return to their tribe as a member because he was really good at growing food and construction so he would have been a good asset for their tribe, and called it quits.
I had another start where it was all women, cuz one had the Misandrist trait so I made sure it was a full group of women. It was before I made Dustboyz. Landed in extreme desert, and did not kill the animal so we ran out of food pretty quickly. Starvation and Heatstroke got to my team, and two died before the Man in Black saved the last woman. Thing is his traits meant he could not do anything except for hunt and fight and medical. So this woman had to cook, clean, build, craft grow food and research all by her self. Eventually I got bored of it and could not see a future where I would have enough cooling to survive the heat wave, so I pretended the guy was from a Patriarchal tribe that made women do all the work and when other tribe members came to visit he presented her as his Wife with out even mentioning it to her. She would commit suicide not long after.

I have probably a dozen of these stories so far. Every failure I learn from so every start is easier and easier. I get that I am probably making the game hard for my self by playing on a desert planet. But I also find it fun, cuz its the same planet every time so its like Im getting to know this planet. And all of these stories are all the stuff that happened on this unforgiving planet. When I am lucky enough to land on a "desert" tile rather than extreme desert now, I feel like its a really easy start. xD

2024.04.10 23:00 SupahCabre Tips and predictions for realistic herbivore race

Pro-Tip: If you are making sapient races that are carnivores or herbivores, read this!
A lot of people create "herbivore" or "carnivore" intelligent races without any thinking on how it affects the culture and behavior. Often in children-targeted fantasy worlds where you don't have to really explain anything and just rely on suspension of belief. But if you want a bit of realism, check this out!
Let's say there's two different species of “human” on two separate earths in two alternate universes, let's call one of them Herbians as the archetypical example of a herbivore sapient, and the other Carnians as archetypical carnivore.
For this thread, I'll be focusing on a world where humans evolved from herbivores and are the dominant species

First of all, what is a herbivore?

A herbivore is a creature that primarily eats plants, carnivores are creatures that primarily eat other animals, and omnivores eat both. So a deer literally has four stomachs and is what we think of when thinking about herbivores, but deer actually eat a lot of meat, including human remains!
https://www.fieldandstream.com/do-deer-eat-meat/
https://www.reddit.com/Beastars/comments/yp5iud/fun_fact_male_deer_are_opportunistic_omnivores/
https://www.espn.com/outdoors/hunting/news/story?id=4556529
So they aren't herbivores, but omnivores. Even horses eat meat:
https://youtu.be/fg2mJ4veuAY?si=xZbYj7T-VUTYV8CI
https://youtu.be/ZnYNmGMsU18?si=mkPDNSm7QRmZzbUw
The Arabian horse was created in the Nejd desert by the Bedouin. There is little or no grass in the Nejd for most of the year, so the Bedouin fed their horses for months at a time on on a diet of dried camel meat, camel milk, honey and dried crickets. This may be one of the reasons that Arabian horses are extremely feed-efficient and known for “getting fat on a glass of water and a good view”. Since horses and deer readily eat meat at any opportunity, maybe it's the quantity of meat they eat that defines whether they're herbivores or omnivores. But then you find out apes like Orangutans and gorillas are considered omnivores, and they eat very little meat, almost none:
The mountain gorilla is primarily a herbivore; the majority of its diet is composed of the leaves, shoots and stems (85.8%) of 142 plant species. It also feeds on bark (6.9%), roots (3.3%), flowers (2.3%), and fruit (1.7%), as well as small invertebrates. (0.1%).[13]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_gorilla
Although gorillas don't kill big animals, they regularly eat small animals (mainly insects). However, this constitutes far less than 0.1% of their food. In chimpanzees, up to 6% of the food may be animal matter.
www.berggorilla.org/en/gorillas/general/everyday-life/what-do-gorillas-eat/
“Orangutans are large-bodied animals that must eat large amounts of high-calorie foods. Largely frugivorous, when it is abundant, the fruit will make up as much as 90% of their diet, supplemented with leaves, shoots, seeds, buds, flowers, bark, insects and mineral-rich soil, and occasional instances of meat-eating”
https://www.orangutanrepublik.org/learn/orangutan-specifics/diet/
Because over 60% of their diet is fruit (based on averaging thousands of observations), they are considered frugivores; however, orangutans also will eat young leaves (approximately 25% of their diet), flowers and bark (approximately 10%) and insects, mainly ants, termites, pupae, and crickets (approximately 5%).
https://www.ourf.info/faqs-mainmenu-28/20-about-orangutans/61-what-do-wild-orangutans-eat
So, so-called “omnivores” eat as much animal matter in their diet as deer! You see how this can be confusing? The difference between an actual herbivore and an omnivore is their digestive system and enzymes. Orangutans and deer are designed to survive off of plants, especially when you look at their digestive systems. Orangutans & gorillas are hindgut fermenters, and deer are ruminants that have four stomachs and chew cud. They cannot constantly eat animal products or they'll get sick. As such, animal matter makes up a tiny insignificant amount of their diets, but as herbivores they NEED to eat plants. A pig or a bear have much shorter and different digestive systems and can literally either eat grass every day, or they can switch to eating meat every day whenever it's necessary, and not have any serious problems. Humans can be vegetarians, or even strictly carnivores like the Inuit, and be perfectly healthy.

The archetypical herbivore

The herbians are most likely hindgut fermenters like most intelligent herbivore animals & a very wide diet but primarily granivores (high energy food sources) more than frugivores (low energy) and especially more than folivores (very low energy). Scientists suggested that fruit foraging lead to big brains in primates:
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2017/ma27/fruit-foraging-primates-may-be-key-large-brain-evolution
Same with bats, eating fruits, nectar, and seeds makes them smarter than bats that eat bugs, however this has more to do with size & longer gestation combo:
https://www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/421334
This can also be shown in animals like birds like parrots where their larger size, diet and their sociality leads to incredible intelligence on par with or superior to corvids.
Nectar has more calories than all three but is much rarer until the domestication of bees.
Because of their intelligence, herbians need to eat the highest calorie food items in order to fuel their large brains. Ancient hunter gatherers were like 80% vegetarians:
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2024/jan/24/hunter-gatherers-were-mostly-gatherers-says-archaeologist?CMP=share_btn_url
However, for herbivorous sapients their digestive system would actually be designed for an herbivorous diet, similar to apes and horses. So constant meat eating would make them very sick (5% of chimpanzee diet is animal products, and most herbivores like deer sometimes eat bugs, small birds, and pieces of carrion).
https://frugivorebiology.com/chimpanzees-omnivores-or-frugivores/
Horses must eat 1.5-2% of their body weight each day in roughage (like the low calorie hay or green pasture which is like practically eating cardboard), and a half-ton horse needs approximately 15,000 kilocalories (what we think of as Calories) per day, bare minimum! A human sized (150-250 lb) herbivore like miniature horse and orangutan needs roughly 2300 calories each day, but a sapient human sized herbivore would eat high calorie diet such as grains and other carbohydrates and thus would not need to eat so much food per day to achieve their calorie necessities.
http://www.dayvillesupply.com/hay-and-horse-feed/calorie-needs.html
Herbivores would normally get food from foraging, and horses often spend 17 hours a day grazing. Orangutans can forage for up to 6 hours a day. Humans feed captive herbivores with food trays at set intervals - optimally three to five times per day but at least twice per day. With intelligence, herbians would likely try to implement set intervals in order to increase time, productivity and work, but the foraging instinct is still strong and herbians, especially hunter gatherers, would be constantly having snacks during the day. This means, as natural foragers, they'd be workaholics and curious, valuing novelty and sensory experiences, the physical concrete world instead of pure theory. Opportunists and busy bodies (predominantly kinesthetic and visual learners), herbians would value accumulating personal wealth and maintaining production quotas or centralized bureaucracies. They'd most likely be polytheistic, as these cultures are more about valuing community over the individual.
They would be highly social and hierarchical with the dominant male controlling the biggest harem. They'd be very aggressive and warlike, and build cities, fortresses and warriors to protect their land & property. The "Type 6" & “Type 3” personality, or the “extraverted sensing” personality. Herbivores can afford to be very aggressive (and tend to be more aggressive than carnivores), as if they get injured they can simply eat plants (which don't run away) until they heal from their injury. They are also more likely to get in fights because they live in larger groups and hence often adopt aggressive behaviors to find mates, etc. This is why in Africa hippos, elephants, and cape buffalo are often more dangerous than lions, hyenas, and leopards. herbian would be sedentary farmers, and much of their time will be spent eating, and working. The opposite of carnivores, they are focused on EXPENDING energy.
They'd likely emass empires like many ancient agricultural societies (China, India, Rome, Egypt, Khmer Empire, Mesoamerica, Incas) and be obsessed with management of land and irrigation with resulting strict borders, erosion, salinity and so on. Their range is limited to where food grows, so there are no “Inuit” tundra civilizations where agriculture is nearly impossible, or any arid dwellers unless it's next to a large river that never dries up like the Nile River in Egypt (which in itself is sort of an outlier).

Suppression of herbivores

As society grows more and more, herbians would kill to extinction any wild animal that eats them or any crops in their territory, only at best keeping certain breeds as beasts of burden, and it would likely be a very long time before they actually domesticate herbivores besides oxen. There is a difference from the omnivorous / carnivorous caused extinctions because early humans hunted and ate the largest game they could find and the mere arrival of humans spelled extinction for megafauna (for example, Australia, Eurasia, America, etc). Herbians would only kill what they perceive to be a threat to their food and livelihoods, so animals eating inedible plants could possibly be spared.
Herbivores will either starve from prevention to eat the fields of food, or be outright killed as pests. Their survival depends on how well they adapt to these changes. We see this in primarily agricultural areas of Africa where certain species that were wiped out to extinction or nearly to extinction but had to be saved by outside forces and only then did people suddenly realize (surprise surprise!) that those animals turned out to be very suitable for domestication all this time (Bontebok, Blesbok, Quagga, etc). Herbians would love pet cats and ferrets, but hate locusts, rodents, & have a love-hate relationship with birds (besides birds of prey & owls, birds are only good for fertilizer but are otherwise pests). Likely a “Four Pests Campaign” scenario would be reenacted at some point, where people ASSUMED sparrows ate mostly grain and that was enough to exterminate them almost to extinction, causing the locust population to skyrocket. This might result in the domestication of sparrows.
This lack of thought and care for animals compared to plants is also shown in the abuse of domesticated animals like donkeys in agrarian parts of the world, which is heavily correlated with the subjugation & abuse of women:
https://theconversation.com/donkeys-are-unsung-heroes-in-ethiopias-humanitarian-crisis-and-they-could-do-even-more-with-better-support-223217
https://muse.jhu.edu/article/744820
Donkeys & horses actually BENEFIT wildlife (including endangered species) by providing water, but agrarian humans, being overly managing of land and crops, literally think all feral animals are pests and “harmful to wildlife” since they aren't being controlled by humans and thus are inconvenient & useless:
https://theconversation.com/feral-desert-donkeys-are-digging-wells-giving-water-to-parched-wildlife-159909
The overmanaging of land by people combined with the thoughtlessness towards animals actually has environmental effects:
“The removal of donkeys and other introduced megafauna to protect desert springs in North America and Australia seems to have led to an exuberant growth of wetland vegetation that constricted open water habitat, dried some springs, and ultimately resulted in the extinction of native fish. Ironically, land managers now simulate megafauna by manually removing vegetation.
It is likely that introduced megafauna are doing much more that remains unknown because we have yet to accept these organisms as having ecological value.”
https://theconversation.com/from-feral-camels-to-cocaine-hippos-large-animals-are-rewilding-the-world-83301
Herbians would be far more cold, economic, and bloodthirsty than omnivorous or carnivorous humans.

Domesticated species

Herbians would have domesticated several plant species long before the first domesticated animal, and most domesticated species are plants. Their first domesticated animals would be not dogs, but small commensal predators of pests such as cats, ferrets, genets, foxes, shrikes, and harris hawks, and this would be very early in the paleolithic stage when herbians were hunter gatherers (emphasis on the “gatherer” part; irl ancient hunter gatherers were mostly vegetarians). The second domesticated animal, perhaps in the neolithic era, would be bees because of providing honey and pollination, and likely sparrows and other insectivores when you consider the fact that they might be initially hunted for being pests themselves. Oxen would also be domesticated despite being a herbivore. For one, it's paramount for agriculture to begin with, and most likely a commensal situation similar to dogs where the oxen were attracted to the “inedible” (to herbians) plant garbage left by herbians and got increasingly friendly (in order to survive encounters and continue scavenging) & some curious and brave persons decided to kidnap ox calves and raise them as pets. One can imagine a breed of ox specifically bred to have enormous horns for defensive purposes. In other parts of the world they could have domesticated the Moose instead, with antlers that come forward like spiked shields.
Small canines would be substantially better than cats at general farmland pest control - cats could still exist for mice but chasing off rabbits, herding animals, etc, is a very canine specific thing. That said, it would likely be very, very difficult without the pact bond of hunting other animals. Wild dogs would likely remain cultural villains for millenia after other animals are already domesticated.

2024.04.07 11:24 stancinovici Seeking your expertise to balance new ore gen

Help me improve ore generation in my modpack
So I'm developing a modpack focused on Create and other mods and I want to incentive players to create far away outposts for mining. So i chose a few biomes where big veins of ores would spawn in the world with flowers markers on the surface to help someone fiind them. But i have a few problems. If i make the veins too large the players would get everything they ever need immediately . Also the mod (large ore veins forge 1.19.2) makes them pretty compacted. I would love to be separated by stone like tuff like the copper and iron ore veins. Also the other biomes including the regions unexplored biomes have no ores. I could add ores to them but that will make them too easily found. I'm trying to to struck balance beetween early game and end game where create contraptions could decimate everything in a few minutes. Also. Help!
Current Ore Biome Distribution explanation: Let's delve into the reasoning behind each biome choice for the ore distribution, ensuring a thematic and logical approach to ore generation that enhances exploration and gameplay.

Ore to Biome Mapping with Reasoning

  1. Coal (minecraft:forest, minecraft:taiga, minecraft:jungle)
    • These biomes are rich in vegetation, symbolizing areas where, over millennia, the accumulation and burial of plant material could form coal.
  2. Iron (minecraft:desert, minecraft:badlands, minecraft:savanna)
    • Iron often occurs in desert and arid regions where it can be exposed and oxidized, creating iron oxide deposits. Badlands and savannas also represent eroded, open landscapes where iron deposits might be found.
  3. Gold (minecraft:mountains, minecraft:river, minecraft:snowy_tundra)
    • Historically, gold has been mined in mountainous areas and washed down into rivers where it's panned. The snowy tundra is included as a nod to the gold rushes in cold regions like Alaska and the Yukon.
  4. Diamond (minecraft:swamp)
    • Diamonds form under high-pressure conditions, which aren't directly represented in Minecraft biomes. However, swamps are chosen for their less-frequented nature and the association with hidden treasures and resources beneath the surface, akin to diamonds being hidden deep within the Earth.
  5. Emerald (minecraft:mountain_edge)
    • Emeralds are typically found in mountainous regions in real life. The minecraft:mountain_edge biome represents the rare and unique terrain where emerald deposits could logically be located, emphasizing the rarity of this gemstone.
  6. Lapis Lazuli (minecraft:dark_forest, minecraft:snowy_mountains, minecraft:birch_forest)
    • Lapis Lazuli is often associated with sedimentary rocks found in historical mining regions. These biomes are selected to represent a variety of terrains where such rocks and, by extension, lapis deposits might be found.
  7. Copper (minecraft:savanna_plateau, minecraft:sunflower_plains, minecraft:wooded_badlands)
    • Copper is commonly associated with volcanic activity and areas with significant geological disruptions. These selected biomes provide a mix of terrains where copper deposits could logically surface.
  8. Zinc (minecraft:flower_forest, minecraft:mushroom_fields, minecraft:jungle)
    • Zinc is often found in fertile, lush areas where its deposits might be found alongside other minerals. These biomes are chosen for their biodiversity and lush vegetation, indicating rich soil that could contain zinc ore.
  9. Quartz (minecraft:nether_wastes, minecraft:soul_sand_valley, minecraft:warped_forest)
    • Quartz is abundant in the Nether, and these biomes are chosen to reflect its commonality. Nether Wastes represent the classic Nether environment, while Soul Sand Valley,Crimson Forest and Warped Forest add variety and challenge to quartz mining.
  10. Nether Gold (minecraft:crimson_forest, minecraft:warped_forest)
    • Gold in the Nether is associated with risky and rewarding exploration. Crimson Forest and Warped Forest are chosen for their unique Nether flora and fauna, providing a challenging environment for mining Nether Gold.
  11. Netherite (minecraft:basalt_deltas)
    • Netherite, being the most valuable and durable material, is placed in one of the most challenging Nether biomes. Basalt Deltas represent a treacherous terrain with lava flows and falling debris, making Netherite mining a perilous endeavor.
This approach ensures that each ore is thoughtfully placed in biomes where their presence makes sense both geologically and thematically, enhancing the player's exploration and discovery experience in Minecraft.

2024.04.07 01:16 stancinovici Help me improve ore generation in my modpack

2024.03.23 01:34 sulalaila Twastoni Mythology: Deities, Miscellaneous, and More![Will be continuously updated with new gods and other stuff, ideas for improvements and new things are always welcome]

this is the old version, go to ''Twastoni Mythology: Full Version without hyphens so it doesn't break again''
God Count: 92
If you have any ideas for improvements to the existing stuff or completely new ideas, put it in the lounge(maybe this will actually get all those ''idk'' out of hiding).
Twastonia Mythology: Guide to the Pantheons
—-----------------------------------------------------------
1: Primordial Gods - First Generation of Deities, born from Ahu. He used his Flames of Creation and conjured the components of Spirit[Huzɛ𐑆hu], Matter[Unnamed], and Heart[Жœƞɍ]. From the components came all the other Primordials, who waged war against each other and completely wiped themselves out. The Boʂōyon rose from their blood and tears, mending the new world created by their deaths, and brought order to the Realms.
2: Boʂōyon Gods - Second Generation of Deities, who rose from the blood and tears of the Dead Primordials and brought order to the Realms. After centuries of their rule, they became corrupted by their vast power, which would eventually cause the Second War where Twastōs and his siblings[formerly Boʂōyon] overthrew the Boʂōyon and brought peace to the Realms.
3: Twastoni Gods - Third and Final Generation of Deities, who overthrew the Boʂōyon and brought true peace and order to the Realms.

Twastonia Mythology: Miscellaneous Ideas and More
—---------------------------------------------------------------------
1: Random Ideas - 1[Twastoni Version of Bellerophon, who tamed the Pegasus], 2[A Right-Hand to Twastos], 3[

If Ȼepan is not alive, shadows and darkness consumes the lands].
3: Mythology Note - The only way to kill or damage a god is to be a god yourself, use Soul Essence based Attacks, deflect their attacks in some way, or use a Divine Weapon.
4: Elements of Vossakhan - Vossakhan obviously has access to the element of water, since he’s the God of the Sea. He also has power over Arctic Waters and Sea Storms, giving him the(limited) powers of Ice and Electricity.
5: The Mountain Empire - There was an empire within Twastonia called Akɑ̄tton which had a main city built on the tallest Mountain in Twastonia.
6: Twastoni Warship, The Metalmaw - Twastoni Warship with a massive metal maw full of iron teeth replacing the entire Bow of the Ship, controlled by a lever that must be pulled up to open the maw and down to close it. When an enemy ship is in front of the Metalmaw, a certain Crewmember will use the lever to open the maw and then bite down, tearing off a huge chunk of the victim ship and sometimes igniting the enemy’s gunpowder, decimating the entire ship.
7: Afterlife of Twastonia - The currently unnamed Netherworld is the afterlife of Twastoni Mythology and has multiple areas, such as the Judgment Place which is where souls are judged, the Heaven which is where the pure souls go, the Hell which is where all the wicked and evil souls go, the Hall of Battle which is where the souls who have died in honorable battle go, and the Mourning Fields which is where the souls who have wasted their lives on false love go.
8: The Boʂōyon Pantheon - Before the Twastoni Gods and their Pantheon, there were very egotistical and interfering gods that are known as the ‘’Boʂōyon’’ and formerly as the Jatte.
9: Ahu, The Creator of Reality - The followers of Twastoni Mythology believed that the Primordials couldn’t have come from nothing, therefore there would have to be a creator of everything.
10: God of Imprisonment and the Netherworld Deities - The God of Imprisonment, [Unnamed], is one of the deities in the currently unnamed Afterlife Realm and has a chain-like whip as both a main weapon and symbol. Just by looking at the rusty, demonic metal ‘’clothing’’ and mounted skulls, you can clearly tell he is the God of Slaves. The other Afterlife Deities include Twastarus[the Ruler], Oƶeyfʏr[Void God, lives in the deepest reaches of the Afterlife that receives no light], Voℓzmүstos[Mist God, represents the Darkness and Silence after death], Hɛrrɑƞ[Beast Goddess, is trapped in Hell along with the Boʂōyon Gods, her Brood and the deceased Beast King who was slain by Ḣaℓdeus], Maℓoɪd́in[Necromancy God, puts curses on both the living and the dead], Tīkⱻos[Sorrow God, watches over the River where he eternally laments and spreads the sadness to those who trespass] and Byenos[Blessing Goddess, watches over the Afterlife’s Heaven and gives blessings to the pure souls]. Once the Anger and Disease Deities have names, I might add them here too. The other inhabitants of the Netherworld are the Mōrƫalis, a group of deities who embody the ways you can die and are the only living Primordials.
11: Æoℓeon and the Wind Steeds - Æoℓeon was apart of the Boʂōyon Pantheon, the old rulers of Twastonia and the other Realms, and was the God of Wind and Storms.
12: Eleven Most Powerful Deities, from Strongest to Weakest[Twastoni Pantheon] - Twastōs[King], Ʂjǣnja[Cosmos], Zeþʏreus[Skies], Āwrazatūr[Earth], Vossakhan[Oceans], Twastarus[Afterlife], Ḣaℓdeus[War], Ȼepaŋ[Sun], Paxnƞɪyur[Winter], Ogōństhur[Volcanoes] and Nүxtzia[Moon].
13: The Creation of Humanity - After the Twastoni Gods overthrew the tyrannous Boʂōyon, they decided to create an entirely new creature in their image: Humans.
14: The Price of Arrogance - The Unnamed God of Arrogance once lived among the Twastoni Gods in Pãɐotunan, his raging hubris causing him to mock them.
