Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well!
Recently I commented under a post about tips and tricks to improve physical appearance and it seems that a few people liked my advice, so I figured I could transform that one comment into a whole post so more people can have access to it.
I am a 26 year old Southern European girly, I have learned a few things here and there that I would I like to share with you. This is by no means a step by step guide, but rather a helping hand that can provide some support or advice. This is for everyone, younger girls and older girls, from everywhere and all walks of life. Take from this post what works for you, and leave the rest.
Small disclaimer, these are tips and tricks that have personally worked for me. I don't believe there is one way to look or feel good, rather this is more for girlies who feel a bit lost style wise and need some minor guidance. My focus is more on healthy rather than pretty, since I do believe that if you feel good on the inside, you will also feel good on the outside.
Enjoy, and please do let me know if you need any more specific advice/tips, I am happy to help!

2024.05.15 13:44 Stormtrooper242 Watching the mind or Watching the body

Hello, I have a question about osho's comments.
Here's what he says in Osho, "The Golden Future, #19, Q3":
One has to start watching the body - walking, sitting, going to bed, eating. One should start from the most solid, because it is easier, and then one should move to subtler experiences. One should start watching thoughts, and when one becomes an expert in watching thoughts, then one should start watching feelings. After you feel that you can watch your feelings, then you should start watching your moods, which are even more subtle than your feelings, and more vague.
But he also says :
Biology you cannot watch; you don’t understand what you are asking. Just watching the mind is enough, because mind contains all the centers – the seven hundred centers which control your whole body. Your whole biology, physiology, chemistry, hormonal system –everything is controlled by seven hundred centers in your small skull. You just watch that….
And
You cannot watch your biology. You can watch your mind, because mind is available just like a TV screen before your consciousness. But your biology, your physiology, your chemistry – that is not available to your You cannot watch how consciousness. your food is being digested; you cannot watch how your food is being transformed into blood, into bones, into nerves. You cannot watch, because for a certain reason nature has not left any door for you to watch that which belongs to the body.
First he says we must observe the body and then the mind, and on the other hand he tells us that we cannot observe the body but only the mind...
So I ask myself, is it important to observe the body, breathing for example? Or is observing the mind enough?
Thank you for reading

Kansas

Despite voters overwhelmingly rejecting a constitutional amendment that would have allowed abortion restrictions in the state, Kansas Republicans passed several anti-abortion bills into law late last month, overriding the governor’s veto.
The first bill, HB 2436, makes it a crime to “coerce” someone into having an abortion. Democrats attempted to widen the scope of the bill to include all kinds of reproductive coercion, like pressuring someone to become or stay pregnant and prohibiting their access to birth control, and enshrine a right to “reproductive autonomy.” Republicans voted down the amendment.
The second bill, HB 2749, requires medical facilities and providers to (1) ask patients their reason for having an abortion and (2) report the data, including personal information about the patient, to the legislature every other year. Gov. Laura Kelly (D) agreed with the objections of Democrats and reproductive rights advocates, saying when she vetoed the bill that there is “no valid reason to force a woman to disclose to the legislature why she is seeking an abortion.”
  • Democrats offered numerous amendments to HB 2749, including one to require men to report to the legislature their reasons for having a vasectomy and another requiring men to report why they are seeking treatment for erectile dysfunction. Republicans rejected all of them.
Finally, the Republican legislature overrode Kelly’s line-item veto allocating $2 million to the Pregnancy Compassion Awareness Program, created last year with a different veto override. The program is run by an anti-abortion group called the Kansas Pregnancy Care Network, which refers pregnant people to crisis pregnancy centers designed to use misleading information to discourage them from obtaining an abortion.

Louisiana

Louisiana’s legislature is doubling down on its anti-abortion laws, passing bills to increase criminalization and refusing to add exemptions to its abortion ban.
Earlier this month, the Louisiana House took up a bill passed by the Senate that would make it a crime, punishable by jail time, to possess abortion-inducing medication. SB 276, sponsored by 23 Republicans and one Democrat, was initially written to create a punishment for coercing someone into an abortion without their knowledge or consent (e.g. spiking a drink). However, House legislators recently added an amendment to the bill that classifies mifepristone and misoprostol as Schedule IV substances alongside some opioids and benzodiazepines. A pregnant person possessing the drugs for their own use could not be charged, but others who intend to distribute them to pregnant people seeking an abortion or store them for their own potential future use would face up to ten years in prison.
“Neither is a drug of abuse or dependence, and that is what the controlled drug schedule is for,” said [emergency room Dr. Jennifer] Avegno of the abortion drugs. “It makes no scientific or medical sense to put these drugs in the same category as Xanax or Valium.”
Mifepristone is a drug that blocks a hormone called progesterone, which is necessary for a pregnancy to continue. Misoprostol causes uterine contractions, causing the body to expel the pregnancy tissue. Mifepristone is also used to treat Cushing’s disease, a hormonal disorder. Misoprostol is also used to induce labor, manage a miscarriage and in the treatment of ulcers. Neither are addictive. “People do not go around taking them and getting dependent and having bad outcomes because of it,” said Avegno. “It’s like saying your blood pressure medicine or insulin is a drug of abuse.”
A week later, Republicans on the House Criminal Justice Committee voted 7-4 to reject a bill to add rape and incest exceptions to the state’s total abortion ban. House Bill 164, written by Democratic Rep. Delisha Boyd, would have allowed girls younger than 17 to have abortions if they became pregnant as the result of sexual assault.
“That baby [in the womb] is innocent … We have to hang on to that,” said committee member Rep. Dodie Horton, R-Haughton, who voted against the bill. Rep. Lauren Ventrella, R-Greenwell Spring, also voted against the legislation, saying the proposed law would be difficult to enforce. Teenagers who had consensual sex might feign rape or incest in order to get access to abortion services, she suggested…
Dr. Neelima Sukhavasi, a Baton Rouge doctor specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, also implored the lawmakers to approve Boyd’s proposal. She and her colleagues have delivered babies for pregnant teenagers, including mothers as young as 13, since Louisiana’s abortion ban went into effect two years ago. These young pregnant people can experience health complications that affect them for the rest of their lives, Sukhavasi said, and sometimes don’t have the mental capacity to handle the births. “One of these teenagers delivered a baby while clutching a teddy bear,” she told the committee.
The Committee also killed three other bills: HB 56, to allow abortions in cases of spontaneous miscarriage or nonviable pregnancy; HB 63, to clarify that the removal of an ectopic pregnancy is not an abortion under state law; HB 293, to add protection for physicians who do not intend to induce abortion by prescribing certain medications.

Texas

Meanwhile, in Texas—a state that pioneered the war on women and reproductive rights—a man initiated legal action to sue people who helped his former partner obtain an out-of-state abortion.
The man, Collin Davis, filed a petition in a state district court seeking permission to launch legal depositions to collect evidence for a potential lawsuit under a Texas law that contains civil liability for anyone who “aids and abets” an abortion. According to his lawyer, Jonathan Mitchell (who crafted the anti-abortion law), Davis is seeking to sue “co-conspirators and accomplices…involved in the murder of [his] unborn child.”
“Fathers of aborted fetuses can sue for wrongful death in states with abortion bans, even if the abortion occurs out-of-state,” he wrote. “They can sue anyone who paid for the abortion, anyone who aided or abetted the travel, and anyone involved in the manufacture or distribution of abortion drugs.”
Molly Duane, a senior staff attorney with the Center for Reproductive Rights, described Mitchell’s statement and general approach as misleading “fearmongering.”
“People need to understand that it is not a crime to leave Texas or any other state in the country for an abortion,” said Duane, who is working with lawyers from the firm Arnold & Porter to represent the woman and others targeted in the Davis case. “I don’t want people to be intimidated, but they should be outraged and alarmed.” Duane described the woman’s relationship with Davis as “toxic and harmful.”
Mitchell also represents a different man who pursued a similar claim last year: Marcus Silva engaged Mitchell to sue the friends of his estranged wife for allegedly helping her obtain abortion pills. Evidence later revealed that Silva knew about the plans beforehand and did not intervene, likely intending to use the threat of legal action as a way of forcing his partner to halt divorce proceedings.
Monday’s counterclaim illustrates, in painstaking detail, exactly how Silva—aided by Mitchell—allegedly deployed this tactic. It was only after Brittni’s abortion was complete that Silva revealed he knew about the plan and, according to the lawsuit, threatened to turn her in if she didn’t submit to his continued abuse. He even showed the police photographs of messages discussing the possibility of an abortion. “Once I finally got home with the girls he had been drinking and he told me that he knew,” Brittni texted one friend. “He’s using it against me.” In another message, she wrote, “Now he’s saying if I don’t give him my ‘mind body and soul’ until the end of the divorce, which he’s going to drag out, he’s going to make sure I go to jail for doing it.” […]
The counterclaim points out another flaw in his argument: Silva himself “is responsible for the alleged injury for which he seeks to recover.” He “knew that Brittni planned to terminate her alleged pregnancy and acquiesced in accepting Brittni’s actions,” so “it would be unconscionable to permit him to benefit by changing his position now.” His claims, in short, are barred “by unclean hands,” because he effectively entrapped his estranged wife—covertly discovering her plan to terminate the pregnancy, then allowing her to go through with it for the express purpose of blackmailing her into staying with him.

Indiana

A three-judge panel of the Indiana Court of Appeals last month unanimously recognized a religious freedom challenge to the state’s complete ban on abortion.
The case, brought by Hoosier Jews for Choice and four anonymous women of various faiths, alleges that the ban interferes with “their sincere religious beliefs that require and direct them to obtain abortions” criminalized since the law took effect in 2023. According to Jewish law, a fetus does not have personhood until birth, and abortion is required if the pregnancy endangers the life or health of the mother.
Brief of Hoosier Jews for Choice (and other plaintiffs): As indicated by the declarations of numerous rabbis, Judaism teaches that a fetus becomes a living person only at birth, and prior to that is considered part of the woman’s body, without independent rights. Abortion should occur and is mandated to end a pregnancy that may cause serious consequences to a woman’s mental or physical heath. Judaism also recognizes that physical health risks are not limited to those likely to cause substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function. Judaism stresses the necessity of protecting the physical and mental health of the woman—a life—over the potential for life present in a zygote, embryo, or fetus. Therefore, restrictions that prevent a woman from obtaining an abortion where compelled by Jewish law, which mandates that the woman act to protect her physical or mental health, impose a substantial burden on that person’s religious exercise.
Under Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), “a governmental entity may not substantially burden a personʹs exercise of religion,” defined to include “any exercise of religion, whether or not compelled by, or central to, a system of religious belief.” This means that arguments about whether plaintiffs are strictly observant are irrelevant; the law protects sincerely held religious views regardless of whether that view is idiosyncratic or unorthodox. However, even a law that imposes a substantial burden on the exercise of religion can be enforced if it is “the least restrictive means of furthering [a] compelling governmental interest” (the strict scrutiny test).
The state argued that abortion does not carry “religious significance” and, even if it did, the abortion ban satisfies strict scrutiny because it is “sufficiently narrowly tailored” to “further the State’s interest” in “protecting human lives in the womb.” Throughout Indiana’s brief, the state attempts to use science to back up fetal personhood, extending developmental physiology to make unfounded claims that protected life unquestionably begins at conception:
In lower courts, the State’s compelling interest is not up for debate. In Cheaney v. State, the Indiana Supreme Court held that the State’s interest in protecting unborn children is “valid and compelling” from “the moment of conception.” …A basic understanding of biology supports these holdings. “That human fetuses are human beings is a scientific fact, not a theological claim.” Regardless whether an individual person believes this, “the scientific consensus” is that “[d]evelopment begins at fertilization,” after which the newly created “unicellular zygote divides many times and becomes progressively transformed into a multicellular human being through cell division, migration, growth, and differentiation.” …. Science thus tells us that “[t]he act of performing an induced abortion during any stage of pregnancy, from fertilization up to birth, ends the life of an innocent human being.” The State’s interest in protecting unborn fetal life at any stage from intentional destruction accordingly is nothing less than “compelling.”
A panel of the Indiana Court of Appeals—made up of a Republican appointee and two Democratic appointees—unanimously ruled against the state, upholding a lower court’s injunction against the abortion ban as it applies to the plaintiffs. In the process, the court laid out a path for religious freedom challenges to abortion bans in other states and at the federal level.
The trial court found that absent a preliminary injunction, Plaintiffs would be irreparably harmed by the loss of their religious freedoms guaranteed by RFRA. A loss of First Amendment freedoms, which include the right to free exercise of religion, “for even minimal periods of time, unquestionably constitutes irreparable injury.”... Without a preliminary injunction, Plaintiffs will suffer the loss of their right to exercise their sincere religious beliefs by obtaining an abortion when directed by their religion and prohibited by the Abortion Law. They also have shown their sexual and reproductive lives will continue to be restricted absent the injunction and as a result of the Abortion Law.

Strategic placement of windows, skylights, and reflective surfaces can amplify the effects of natural light, making even the most compact areas feel bright and inviting.
Reduces Energy Consumption
Harnessing natural light isn't just good for your health and well-being - it's also good for the environment and your wallet. In today's fast-paced world, stress and tension often take a toll on our bodies, particularly in the neck and shoulders. Fortunately, there's a simple yet effective solution that can provide relief and promote overall wellness: neck massage. This ancient practice offers a multitude of benefits, including alleviating stiff shoulders, neck tension, and even helping with hypertension. Let's explore the therapeutic wonders of neck massage and discover how it can transform your health.
Understanding the Healing Power of Neck Massage
Neck massage involves the manipulation of soft tissues in the neck and shoulder region to release tension, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. By targeting specific pressure points and muscle groups, neck massage can address a wide range of physical and emotional issues, making it a versatile and valuable therapy for holistic wellness.
Alleviating Stiff Shoulders and Neck Tension
Stiff shoulders and neck tension are common complaints, especially among individuals who spend long hours sitting at a desk or engaging in repetitive tasks. Neck massage offers targeted relief by loosening tight muscles, improving flexibility, and restoring range of motion. By releasing built-up tension in the neck and shoulders, neck massage can help alleviate discomfort and promote better posture.
Managing Hypertension Naturally
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a significant risk factor for heart disease and stroke. While lifestyle changes and medication are often recommended to manage hypertension, neck massage can be a valuable complementary therapy. Research suggests that regular neck massage may help reduce blood pressure by promoting relaxation, reducing stress hormones, and improving blood circulation throughout the body.
The Science Behind the Serenity: How Neck Massage Works
Neck massage works by stimulating the body's natural relaxation response, which helps to lower stress levels and promote a sense of well-being. The gentle pressure applied during neck massage can trigger the release of endorphins, neurotransmitters that act as natural painkillers and mood elevators. Additionally, neck massage can improve blood flow to the brain, delivering oxygen and nutrients to support overall brain health.

Here's an overview on this patient's case.
This patient in his early 60s from Alaska sought a solution to restore his hairline and frontal scalp after previous alternative treatments yielded minimal results. Dr. Hasson and his skilled team undertook an extensive procedure to achieve this goal, harvesting a total of 5,000 grafts through Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) over a span of two days. This meticulous approach was designed to ensure a comprehensive and natural-looking restoration.
On the first day, the focus was on reconstructing the hairline and frontal zone, which are critical areas for achieving an aesthetically pleasing and youthful appearance. The precise placement of these grafts is crucial, as the hairline serves as the frame for the face. By the end of the first day, the foundational structure of the patient's new hairline was established.
The second day was dedicated to addressing the temples and certain areas of the mid-scalp. These regions were carefully filled in to provide a seamless transition from the densely packed frontal zone to the more sparsely populated areas of the scalp. This strategic approach ensures that the overall look is cohesive and natural.
In terms of graft composition, the team utilized 360 single-hair grafts, 3,325 double-hair grafts, and 315 grafts containing 3-4 hairs each. This distribution is important as it allows for a varied density and natural gradient, mimicking the way hair grows naturally. Single-hair grafts were primarily used along the hairline to create a soft and natural appearance, while the larger grafts were used to add volume and density to the mid-scalp.
Additionally, the patient commenced a topical dutasteride regimen shortly after the procedure. Dutasteride is a potent medication known to inhibit the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that can contribute to hair loss. The use of this topical treatment is aimed at promoting hair growth and maintaining the results of the transplant.
The post-operative photos shared by the patient reveal significant progress, even at just five months post-op. Typically, the most substantial hair growth is observed between 6 to 12 months after the procedure, indicating that the patient is likely to experience even more pronounced improvements in the coming months. The early results showcase a remarkable transformation, highlighting the effectiveness of the procedure and the expertise of Dr. Hasson and his team. Another incredible results by Hasson And Wong.

2024.05.14 14:58 shyamyoga What should I look for in a prenatal yoga class?

Introduction:
Pregnancy is a transformative journey that brings joy, excitement, and a profound connection with your growing baby. As you navigate this remarkable time, maintaining your physical and emotional well-being becomes paramount. Prenatal yoga offers a nurturing and supportive practice designed specifically for expectant mothers, offering a multitude of benefits for both body and mind. However, with the abundance of prenatal yoga classes and instructors available, choosing the right one can feel overwhelming. In this guide, we'll explore the essential factors to consider when selecting a prenatal yoga class or instructor, empowering you to make an informed decision that supports your pregnancy journey.
Understanding the Importance of Prenatal Yoga:
Before diving into what to look for in a prenatal yoga class or instructor, let's briefly explore why prenatal yoga is beneficial for expectant mothers:
  1. Physical Health: Prenatal yoga helps alleviate common pregnancy discomforts such as back pain, sciatica, and swelling by gently stretching and strengthening the body. Targeted poses and movements support pelvic floor health, improve posture, and prepare the body for labor and delivery.
  2. Emotional Well-Being: Pregnancy can evoke a range of emotions, from excitement and anticipation to anxiety and apprehension. Prenatal yoga provides a nurturing space for mothers to cultivate mindfulness, reduce stress, and connect with their baby and inner selves.
  3. Community Support: Prenatal yoga classes foster a sense of community and solidarity among expectant mothers, creating a supportive environment where experiences can be shared, questions can be asked, and friendships can be formed.
Now, let's explore the key considerations when choosing a prenatal yoga class or instructor:
Instructor Qualifications and Experience:
  1. When selecting a prenatal yoga class, it's essential to ensure that the instructor possesses the necessary qualifications and experience to safely guide pregnant women through their practice. Look for instructors who have completed specialized prenatal yoga teacher training programs accredited by reputable yoga organizations. Additionally, inquire about the instructor's experience working with pregnant women and their familiarity with the unique needs and considerations of prenatal yoga practice.
Emphasis on Safety and Modifications:
  1. Pregnancy brings about significant changes in the body, including hormonal shifts, increased joint laxity, and a growing belly. A reputable prenatal yoga class will prioritize safety and offer appropriate modifications to accommodate the changing needs of expectant mothers. The instructor should provide clear guidance on how to modify poses to ensure comfort and safety throughout each trimester of pregnancy. Additionally, the class should include practices that promote pelvic floor health and address common pregnancy-related issues such as round ligament pain and pelvic instability.
Focus on Breathwork and Mindfulness:
  1. Breathwork (pranayama) and mindfulness practices are integral components of prenatal yoga, offering invaluable tools for managing stress, anxiety, and discomfort during pregnancy and labor. When evaluating prenatal yoga classes, inquire about the incorporation of breath awareness, deep relaxation techniques, and guided meditation. A well-rounded prenatal yoga class will emphasize the connection between breath, body, and baby, empowering mothers to cultivate a sense of calm and presence amidst the whirlwind of pregnancy.
Supportive Environment and Community:
  1. Pregnancy can sometimes feel isolating, especially for first-time mothers navigating the unknown. A nurturing and supportive environment can make all the difference in a prenatal yoga class. Look for classes that foster a sense of community where expectant mothers can share their experiences, ask questions, and receive support from both the instructor and fellow participants. Whether in-person or online, a supportive community can provide a sense of belonging and camaraderie that enhances the overall prenatal yoga experience.
Accessibility and Convenience:
  1. In today's digital age, online yoga classes offer unparalleled accessibility and convenience for expectant mothers. When choosing a prenatal yoga class, consider factors such as scheduling flexibility, class duration, and the ability to practice from the comfort of your own home. Online prenatal yoga classes allow you to tailor your practice to your specific needs and preferences, whether you're a busy professional, a stay-at-home parent, or someone with limited mobility.
Conclusion:
Choosing a prenatal yoga class or instructor is a significant decision that can profoundly impact your pregnancy journey. By prioritizing factors such as instructor qualifications, safety protocols, emphasis on breathwork and mindfulness, supportive community, and accessibility, you can select a prenatal yoga class that aligns with your unique needs and preferences. Whether you opt for in-person classes or online yoga classes, the key is to find a nurturing and supportive environment where you can safely and confidently nurture your body and baby. With the guidance of a knowledgeable and compassionate instructor, prenatal yoga can become a cherished practice that enhances your well-being and prepares you for the transformative journey of motherhood.

Dr. Rita Modi, acclaimed as Thane's leading IVF expert, supervises the intricate process at our IVF services in Thane clinic. Initial Consultation: Embark on your IVF journey with a personalized consultation with Dr. Rita Modi, a seasoned IVF doctor . Here, she thoroughly evaluates your medical history, discusses fertility concerns, and tailors treatment options to suit your needs.
Ovarian Stimulation: The process begins by stimulating the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Over 8-14 days, hormone injections are administered to encourage follicle growth, closely monitored through ultrasound scans and blood tests.
Egg Retrieval: Once the follicles are mature, the egg retrieval process takes place. Under sedation, eggs are delicately retrieved from the ovaries using a thin needle guided by ultrasound, a procedure typically lasting 20-30 minutes.
Sperm Collection: Concurrently, on the same day as egg retrieval, the male partner provides a sperm sample, or in certain cases, earlier sperm retrieval procedures are conducted.
Fertilization: In the laboratory, retrieved eggs are fertilized with sperm using conventional IVF or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Embryologists meticulously oversee the fertilization process, which spans 16-20 hours.
Embryo Culturing: Embryos are cultured in a controlled environment for 3-5 days, undergoing cell division. The highest-quality embryos are then selected for transfer.
Embryo Transfer: Typically, 3-5 days after egg retrieval, the chosen embryos are transferred into the uterus in a swift, painless procedure without anesthesia.
Progesterone Support: Post-embryo transfer, progesterone supplements may be prescribed to bolster the uterine lining and embryo implantation.
Pregnancy Test: Approximately 10-14 days following embryo transfer, a pregnancy blood test determines the outcome, with a positive result indicating successful implantation.
Pregnancy Monitoring: Upon confirmation of pregnancy, regular monitoring and ultrasound scans track fetal development.
The duration of IVF varies for each individual, influenced by factors such as ovarian response and embryo development. Typically, a single IVF cycle in Thane spans 4-6 weeks from ovarian stimulation to pregnancy testing.

Mindful Eating and Portion Control

One of the key strategies for mindful eating is to slow down and be present during mealtimes. Rather than rushing through our meals or multitasking while we eat, we should take the time to appreciate the flavors, textures, and aromas of our food. This heightened awareness not only enhances the enjoyment of our meals but also allows us to better recognize when we have reached a state of fullness, preventing us from consuming more than our bodies need.
Portion control is another essential aspect of mindful eating and healthy living. Overeating, even of nutritious whole foods, can lead to weight gain and other health concerns. By being mindful of our portion sizes and focusing on balanced plates that incorporate a variety of plant-based foods, lean proteins, and whole grains, we can ensure that our bodies receive the necessary nutrients without consuming excessive calories.
Implementing practical strategies, such as using smaller plates, eating slowly, and listening to internal hunger and fullness cues, can help us cultivate a more mindful approach to eating. This, in turn, can lead to sustainable weight management, improved digestion, and a greater sense of overall well-being.

Managing Food Allergies and Intolerances

Navigating a healthy eating lifestyle can pose unique challenges for individuals with food allergies or intolerances. However, with the right strategies and a little creativity, it is possible to enjoy a balanced diet while effectively managing these dietary restrictions.

Identifying Allergens and Triggers

The first step in managing food allergies and intolerances is to identify the specific ingredients or foods that trigger adverse reactions. Common allergens include gluten, dairy, nuts, soy, and shellfish, while intolerances may be linked to lactose, fructose, or histamine. By being mindful of these triggers, individuals can make informed choices when selecting and preparing meals.

Adapting Recipes for Special Diets

Adapting recipes to accommodate food allergies or intolerances is essential for maintaining a balanced, plant-based diet. This may involve substituting whole food, organic ingredients for traditional allergens or using specialized alternatives, such as gluten-free flours or non-dairy milk. By experimenting with ingredient swaps and exploring clean eating techniques, individuals can discover a world of delicious and nutritious meal options that align with their dietary needs.
Through a thoughtful and proactive approach, individuals with food allergies or intolerances can navigate the complexities of healthy eating and enjoy a wide variety of whole foods while maintaining their overall well-being.

Clean Eating: Minimizing Processed Foods

In the pursuit of a healthy eating lifestyle, one crucial aspect to consider is the minimization of processed and packaged foods. The clean eating movement emphasizes the importance of consuming whole, minimally processed ingredients to maximize the nutritional value of our meals.

Recognizing Unhealthy Additives

When it comes to clean eating, it's essential to be aware of the common additives and preservatives found in many processed foods. These can include artificial colorings, flavors, and sweeteners, as well as preservatives like sodium nitrite and trans fats. By learning to identify these unhealthy additives, you can make more informed choices and avoid products that may compromise your balanced diet.

Organic and Local Food Options

Incorporating organic and locally sourced whole foods into your healthy eating routine can have numerous benefits. Organic produce and products are typically free from synthetic pesticides and hormones, and they often contain a higher concentration of nutrient-dense compounds. Additionally, supporting local farmers and producers not only reduces your carbon footprint but also provides access to fresh, seasonal offerings that are rich in plant-based goodness.

Weight Management Through Healthy Eating

Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is an integral part of a balanced healthy eating lifestyle. By understanding the principles of calorie density and macronutrient balance, individuals can make informed choices to support their weight management goals.

Calorie Density and Satiety

The concept of calorie density refers to the number of calories per gram of a particular food. Whole, plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains tend to have a lower calorie density, meaning you can consume a larger volume of these foods without exceeding your daily calorie needs. This can lead to a greater sense of satiety, or feeling full and satisfied, which can support sustainable weight management.

Balancing Macronutrients

In addition to considering calorie density, it's important to focus on balancing the three macronutrients: protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Each macronutrient plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy eating habits and supporting weight management. By incorporating a mix of lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats into your meals and snacks, you can help regulate your appetite, stabilize blood sugar levels, and fuel your body with the necessary nutrients for overall well-being.

2024.05.13 19:34 Logical-Goat2203 Struggling to Get Up in the Morning? Understanding Your Chronotype Could Be the Key

Hello Fellow members...
Let's be real - mornings can be brutal, especially if you're a night owl. You set multiple alarms, hit snooze repeatedly, and still feel like a zombie when you finally roll out of bed. Trust me, I've been there!
On the flip side, maybe you're one of those annoyingly chipper morning larks who could run laps at 5 AM but can barely keep your eyes open after 9 PM. We all have our own unique body clocks, known as chronotypes.
For years, I struggled with the morning battle, dragging myself to the gym before tackling my most important tasks later in the day. But by evening, when I needed all my brain power, my energy and focus were shot. It was a vicious, unproductive cycle.
That's when I discovered the power of understanding my chronotype - my body's natural circadian rhythm that governs sleep patterns, hormone levels, and energy peaks. It was a total game-changer!
I realized I'm more of a morning person, with my sharpest focus and highest energy in those early hours. So I flipped my routine - prioritizing my most important work first thing, and moving my workouts to the evening when the gym was less crowded anyway.
The results were night and day (pun intended). By working in sync with my natural rhythms, I was knocking out high-value tasks by noon, feeling that sweet satisfaction of achievement. And with my evenings freed up, I could hit the gym without rushing.
Understanding your chronotype is a crucial step in optimizing your productivity and time management. For some, that might mean rearranging your schedule to knock out important tasks during your personal prime time. For others, it could be about protecting your peak focus periods and avoiding distractions.
Of course, aligning with your biological clock is just one of many strategies I cover for unlocking extra hours in your week. For those who want to dive deeper into the above, feel free to check the video I created for increasing motivation and gaining and extra day a week by tweaking your habits. The video is timestamped to where I talk about the Chronotype aspect : https://youtu.be/m2KGDTkJ1Jk?si=_DPjI47R3ZnOfJPK&t=823 . The video also dives into batching similar tasks, cutting mindless social media scrolling, intentional multitasking during "no-brainer" activities, and time blocking for intense focus sessions.
But figuring out whether you're a morning lark, night owl, or something in between can be the first step in a total productivity transformation. It's all about self-knowledge and intentionally designing your days to work for you, not against you.
So if you're constantly struggling to wake up or stay awake, it might be time to look at your chronotype. Once I cracked that code, it was like the foggy haze lifted - my days flowed better, I accomplished more, and I actually had time for the things that mattered most.
Have any of you found that listening to your body clock made a difference in your energy, focus, and productivity? I'd love to hear about your experiences in the comments!

2024.05.13 18:46 Comprehensive_Web887 Evil west, a perfect over the top palate cleanser and not a God of War clone

Now here is a perfect action game that doesn’t take itself seriously while offering a superb gameplay loop that is very rare this and last generation. I wasn’t keen on playing it due to GOW comparisons assuming it would be inferior and what looked like a very arcady style but needed to try something different after a while and very happy I did.
The premise is simple Cowboys (good guys) VS Vampires (bad guys). You are Jessie one of the agents for Rentier Institute that is tasked with the ridding of the supernatural Vampire menace that threatens to transform the world as we know it.
The gameplay while simple is one of the best examples of its type. Traversing the highly linear yet beautiful and varied environments you are essentially navigating from one heavy encounter to the next. Commonly known as an “arena fighter” this game pits players up against progressively challenging blood sucking hoards with a big boss at the end. The enemies are reasonably varied both in their design and behaviour and bosses are recycled during later stages as regular foes.
To deal with the increasingly difficult scenarios you start with a base arsenal of a rifle, revolver and a gauntlet each sitting on a progression tree that adds ridiculous power ups and perks. New weapons are acquired as the game progresses, gradually turning Jessie into an unstoppable killing machine.
The action is the best of its kind. Far from a simple button mashing affair each move set has just enough variety so that you have to remember the combinations and abilities without getting lost. One minute you are unloading a full clip into the face of some haemoglobin starved vampires, the next you uppercut growth hormone infused brutes with your electrically charged gauntlet before pile driving them to dirt. As the screen fills with a large number of enemies the blood and goo is almost palpable.
The graphics are great. Well detailed characters, highly destructible encounters, much comical blood and vampire leftovers everywhere. Played on PS5 in both quality and performance mode. Quality mode is great and I got used to 30fps quickly but settled on performance mode which retains all the details at 60fps and looks great on a 49” TV.
The simple action is accompanied and elevated by a superb soundtrack and frequent cinematics of high quality. This keeps the narrative constantly moving forward and just when you think you want to take a break you’re once again knee deep in some “foul blood’s” guts.
The story is simple and with the gameplay being the main focus it doesn’t carry much in its depth. But that’s not the point of this game.
Some compare it to GOW. And while the depth of the story is nowhere close in some ways the traversal mechanics and the arena style combat are similar. Chests that need to be smashed in an all too familiar style, climbing up and down the chains. But it’s the frequency of the encounters, the music, the arsenal and quick story pacing that really do make this stand out as a different beast.
The game is short and over the 16 levels that can be completed in a few sittings you may get to the point where it starts to border on repetitive. But that’s exactly when the game ends.
In short. If you want a very entertaining game to get stuck into after work/study this is highly recommended. It doesn’t require much commitment and the endorphin returned on time invested is high.

2024.05.13 14:49 Fusion_Health Cultivating Sexual Energy - From a Spark to a Blazing Fire, Pt. 3

Tapas Part 3 - Bliss Upon Bliss

Recap
Part 1 covered the concept of tapas, or spiritual austerities, and how you can use tapas to magnify and enhance the sexual energy created through semen retention into tejas, an "inner radiance, fearlessness, majesty, and authority".
It also covered the concept of syntropy, which is how a system is able to conserve, increase and synchronize energy within itself, which is the reason why you get so many benefits from semen retention. Yoga, meditation and tapas all increase syntropy as well.
You can find Part 1 here.
Part 2 detailed how to use tapas to overcome craving, both for the urge to masturbate and for all cravings in general. It detailed some of the science behind why yoga and breathing exercises are just about the most syntropic things you could ever possibly do, by regulating both the endocrine and nervous systems, and activating and clearing out your energy body, called the pranamaya kosha in yoga. Then I introduced some new yogic techniques to introduce more prana and tejas into the system.
You can find Part 2 here.
In this post, we will cover :
Part 4 will cover :
Giddy up!

Limbic Friction

Tapas will take your semen retention practice, as well as the rest of your life, to entirely new heights. Tapas involves overcoming limbic friction - the uncomfortable feeling your nervous system creates to try to convince you to stay in your hazy comfort zone, to avoid doing the difficult things.
You know, the things that will allow you to grow.
Limbic friction will also pop up when you try to not indulge in the thing you’re craving.
Limbic friction just keeps you trapped in your tidy little box of comfort. While it may be comfortable and familiar, no real growth can occur inside this box.
Everything you’ve ever dreamed of is on the other side of fear and discomfort.
"It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that things are difficult." - Seneca
The goal of tapas is to simply feel that limbic friction, to fully accept it, and then proceed ahead anyway. That’s it.

Gain Confidence and Boost Testosterone with Resolves

While we’re on the topic of pushing ourselves, let’s discuss the power of making resolves. In the 3rd post of the series on overcoming craving, Becoming a King with Equanimity, we discussed how they make great use of “strong determination sits” in Goenka-style meditation retreats.
This simply means that when you sit for meditation, you make a vow to sit perfectly still for the entire hour of your meditation session - you can’t move your hands, your feet, or open your eyes once the sit begins.
Not only does this up the level of discomfort, forcing you to either develop equanimity or die trying, it also increases your confidence in yourself. You say you’re going to do something tough and you prove to yourself that you can do it.
Strong determination sitting is a powerful practice, but the real point is making a resolve to do something difficult and then sticking to it no matter what.
This practice is called adhitthana, and it is one of the Ten Perfections of Theravadan Buddhism that a person aspiring to awaken must master in order to bring about awakening.
For a beginner meditator, the resolve should be only be to sit every day, with out fail - even if it's just ten minutes.
It’s easy to see why this practice goes hand in hand with tapas. Let's say you are a beginner meditator, and you make a resolve or "strong determination" to sit every single day, for at least ten minutes. For someone who has never meditated, that's actually a pretty tough thing to stick to.
But then, one fine spring Friday afternoon, you meet up with your buddy and grab a couple of beers (or insert whatever your temptation is). You get home and look at your meditation cushion and even ten minutes seems like too much.
This is your mind being a little bitch!
But you're a retainer practicing tapas, and having made this strong determination to sit for ten minutes every night means there is no backing out. To back out is to admit defeat, to let yourself down, and to prove to yourself how unreliable you are.
Barring utter catastrophe, you will do your evening ten minute sit.
So you sit, and even though the meditation drags on and on because you’ve had a couple, you make it through and viola - a big check is deposited in your “confidence and dependability” account.
Making resolutions and sticking to them is a powerful method to make progress fast, not just with your semen retention/yoga/meditation practice, but in life in general.
In a world of uncertainty, when people seem to get more and more flaky and unreliable, be the one person who you can always depend on.
It’s a promise you must keep in order for it to pay off, otherwise you’re just reinforcing the habit that it's ok for your mind to take the easy way out.
Start with small resolutions, resolutions you know you can hold yourself to. You want to set up a positive feedback loop of winning. These successive small wins lead to more wins, as each win increases dopamine and testosterone - a phenomena known as The Winner Effect.
Scientists have found that when we win something, regardless of how small, the brain releases dopamine and testosterone, chemicals associated with confidence, attention, and mood. Interestingly, studies have shown that the brain can rewire itself for success over time.
It's a match against yourself - who will win? Your old lazy self, or the new and improved self?
Strong Determinations in Practice
Once you’ve proven to yourself you can rely on yourself, slowly start upping the ante. Don't try to jump immediately from a slovenly wimp to the Olympic-level athlete of austerities or meditation, because you’ll simply fail - and that's proving to yourself you aren't dependable.
And remember, you can make resolutions with anything, not just yoga and meditation:
Or how about actually starting your workout routine and sticking to it? Or resolve to give up whatever your crutch is, and actually follow through this time? The smart man would be sure to build up with some smaller wins before you try to drop your big crutch.
The goal is simply to stick to your resolutions!
Start off making them small and manageable.
Each time you stick to your resolution will be a win, dopamine and testosterone will be released, and overtime this will rewire your brain towards badassery. Your confidence and strength will grow and grow. Only when there is no more limbic friction from the original resolution do you add another or increase the intensity of the original resolution.
Prove to yourself that you are dependable and watch your confidence skyrocket. I've included a video at the end of this post talking about the benefits of strong determination and resolves as they relate to meditation, but remember - these resolves can benefit you in regards to any behavior.
The late and great Anthony Bourdain

Meditation for Tejas

As we covered in Part 2, yoga, with its postures, breathing exercises, and energetic locks and seals, is easily the fastest and almost the most effective manner of increasing tejas.
What about meditation? Well, let's all be honest, for most beginners, meditation is a bitch. It's difficult to sit down, stop the constant doing, disengage from all that thinking in your mind and focus on one object to the exclusion of all others.
But once you're good at meditating, it is perhaps the most syntropic thing you can possibly do. Stilling the mind is the epitome of conserving energy - your body isn't moving and now, even your mind has reached stillness.
And once you get really good at meditation, a positive feedback loop occurs in the mind, magnifying energy in the body-mind system many times over - so much so that it starts producing an intense bodily bliss and mental happiness, respectively called piti and sukha.
When piti (rapture) and sukha (joy, mental bliss) start arising, you can be sure that you're on the precipice of what is known as jhanas in Buddhism, and dhyana/samadhi in yoga. These are meditative absorptions that are extremely purifying and endlessly praised by the Buddha, not only as one of the proper ways to meditate, but as the one and only type of pleasure to actively seek out.
And believe it or not, the pleasure of jhana can exceed even the pleasure of sex, and can last much, much longer.
You know how people with anxiety get stuck in a loop of rumination that just magnifies their anxiety? Jhanas are the opposite of this anxiety loop.
"Anxiety can capture attention, which can lead to more anxiety, which can capture more attention, and so on, leading to a physiological response (e.g. heart rate changes, sweating, in the extreme case a panic attack). Jhana meditators create a similar positive feedback loop between attention and pleasure." Jhourney - These are guys who led the metta retreat where I was first able to achieve jhanas
Once you can get to this level in your sits, then some real juice is added to your meditation, and tejas will start overflowing.
Thy cup will runneth over, as they say.
And as we'll see in an eventual post in the Craving Series, once you get to the point of reliably reaching jhanas, you can say bye bye to pretty much any and all cravings. Why? Because why would you want to masturbate, getting only 5-10 minutes of pleasure, when you can sit down and hang out in a much more pleasurable jhana for 20 minutes to 2 hours?
And that pleasure, ease and joy follows you around the rest of the day, coloring everything you do. It's difficult to crave when you're already deeply satisfied.

Purificatory Fire of Meditation

But that leaves us with the problem of getting good enough at meditation to achieve those states of bliss, and now that I've mentioned how amazing some of these higher states of meditation can be, I may have inadvertently caused you to crave them.
And you cannot reach jhana from a place of craving. In fact, jhanas are all about letting go. More on that in the Craving Series.
However, worry not! Just beginning on the path of meditation starts working wonders for the purificatory process, no matter how "bad" you may be at it.
Recall how in Tapas Pt 2, I mentioned how effective yoga asanas and pranayama are at cleaning out the gunk and detritus from the nervous system/mind/energy body?
Meditation does the exact same thing, even if you think you're doing it poorly.
So, as a beginner or someone who thinks they "can't meditate", understand that each time you sit down and do metta, or focus on the breath, or do vipassana, or recite a mantra, or whatever, even if you think you aren't meditating well, as long as you know your technique is proper, you're doing great, and it's having quite the purifying effect on the brain/mind/nervous system.
Recall in the previous post how I mentioned that once the gunk is cleared from the system, that it is like living life as a child again? Perceptions become crisp and clear, wonder and joy are always right around the corner, and things become "feather light and paper thin" - meaning things feel less solid, and more vibrant, vibratory, alive.
If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro' narrow chinks of his cavern.” - William Blake, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell
Here are a few key quotes from one of my favorite books on meditation, The Science of Enlightenment : How Meditation Works by Shinzen Young. I highly recommend this book, especially for science-oriented types. The "fixating forces" he mentions in the following quote are our deeply ingrained habit patterns of chasing after the pleasant and running from the unpleasant (tanha, craving) and the word kleshas refers to the three defilements#Three_poisons) of craving, aversion and ignorance.
"So if, as many believe, we really are imbedded in spiritual reality, why don't we see it? Why isn't every vision beatific? It's because of fixating forces deep down in the subconscious. And our job, according to a plethora of self-help paradigms, is to become free from these forces.
"In the Buddhist, Hindu, and Abrahamic contemplative traditions, the process of becoming free of those limiting forces is sometimes referred to as purification (vishuddhi in Sanskrit; catharsis in Greek). Purification could be described as the process that breaks this material up, digests it, metabolizes it, and (pardon the metaphor) excretes it. Purification is what it 'tastes like' as we are getting free from those limiting grooves. It's a sort of immediate reward. You sense that the limitations of the past are being metabolized and a bright future is being created because of the way you're experiencing a certain something in the present. Once you learn the taste of purification, your growth goes exponential. The ability to taste purification is the sign of a mature spiritual palate.
"From a Buddhist perspective, that old material gets worked through by pouring clarity (mindfulness) and equanimity into the experience of the moment. That clarity and equanimity percolate down into the subconscious and give the subconscious what it needs to resolve/dissolve its issues."
"Through meditation, we smelt away the kleshas (craving, aversion, ignorance). We refine the ore, and we are left with what always was - the pure gold of consciousness."
So three important notes to end on
  1. If you're new to meditation, or even if you've had a practice, realize that there are no bad sits! If your mind wanders 100 times in 10 minutes of meditating, and you brought your mind back to its object 101 times, that means you've done 101 "reps". That is a successful sit!
  2. Do not crave results! Just focus on the right inputs, and eventually the right outputs appear on their own. The right inputs here being that you sit consistently and with proper technique, in a relaxed and un-expectant manner. Focus on the inputs, the results will come.
  3. That sense of struggle that you must overcome to sit on the cushion, plus the subtle (or not so subtle) struggle while you're actually meditating is the taste of purification! That feeling is the feeling of tapas itself! You may not enjoy the feeling (yet), but you can at least know that you're engaging with powerful, purificatory tapas each and every time you sit. Even more so if you start using resolves.
That feeling of resistance is none other than our friend limbic friction. When you feel that limbic friction pop up, and then you do the thing anyway, remember - that's gunk being burned out of the system!

Jhanas, Orgasms, and Tantric Sex

Now, there will be an upcoming post in the Craving Series that will be a deep dive on the style of meditation that produces this bliss and happiness.
If you guys are interested, I made a recent post on metta meditation, which is arguably the easiest way to get into these states. While I think the whole thing is worth reading, feel free to skip to the end for instructions. This was the style of meditation that finally allowed me to begin accessing these states of absorption and bliss, after 13 years of trying to do so.
On the other hand, feel free to skip my post entirely and head straight to one of the links I've included at the end of this post for guided metta meditations.
Metta is a fantastic method for jhana because the feeling of loving-kindness itself is inherently pleasant. Because it is pleasant, your mind will focus easily upon it; because your mind focuses easily upon the pleasant sensation, the pleasantness grows; the mind is able to concentrate more easily upon this increased pleasantness, which then causes the pleasantness to grow even more, on and on and on, until bodily bliss (piti) and mental joy (sukha) start arising and you're blasted into the first jhana.
The Joy of Jhana
What does "being blasted in the first jhana by bodily bliss and mental joy" feel like?
Well, the best way to describe jhana is somewhere between an extended orgasm and being on the love drug MDMA/ecstasy.
"Hold up - that sounds like it would be debilitating to all this energy we've been cultivating... Surely there will be devastating consequences to our semen retention practice, right?"
Orgasms drain you of energy, not just due to the release of prolactin which lowers dopamine and testosterone, but also because of the effect on your nervous system. As you get more and more sexually aroused, energy builds up in your nervous system. Once your nervous system can no longer handle the energy and stimulation, you orgasm, at which point prolactin is dumped into the body and the nervous system starts shaking off all the energy that has accumulated inside.
Toes curl in, eyes roll into the back of the head, and your nerves fire like off like its the Fourth of July, right? You get hormonal dampening, and a good portion of the energy you've been building up and conserving through semen retention, wise use of energy, tapas, yoga, pranayama and meditation gets literally shivered away and shook off.
Jhanas, on the other hand, allow for a very slow build up of energy within the nervous system, (one that doesn't involve your Johnson), but instead of that build up resulting in a big explosion of energy that the nervous system shakes off, it is all contained within and sustained for long periods of time!
This pleasure, which is simply a build up of energy, is extremely purifying to the entire system.
And when the jhana is over, you're left feeling invigorated and refreshed, not drained and depleted, because your nervous system remains supercharged with energy and bliss. Not only will you be radiating good vibes everywhere, but you will be supercharged with our friend tejas, that "inner radiance, fearlessness, majesty, and authority".
The Tantric Sex Connection
This is also one reason why tantric sex is such a powerful adjunct to semen retention. In tantric sex, you build up energy within the nervous system and don't release it - but in this case, the energy comes from sex, not from meditation.
And all of this is even more reason to have a strong yoga practice, because it is only through yoga (or qi gong/tai chi) that you begin to slowly build up prana within yourself, training your nervous system and pranamaya kosha to be able to handle higher and higher amounts of energy.
Through yoga, you also purify the channels, called nadis, through which this energy flows, as well as the chakras, the "power transformers" of the energy body.
If these aren't purfied and opened up, the energy will remain stuck and unable to participate in the feedback loop of jhana, nor of tantric sex. This is a major reason why guys are unable to make it very long with retention - their bodies can't handle the build up of sexual energy, so it seeks release and homestasis the only way it knows how - through orgasm.
Again, I refer you to Can You Handle the Power? if you'd like to read more about the concept of being able to handle more and more energy.
Better yet, skip the reading and get to practicing.

Resources

A quick note on guided metta meditations - you kind of have to shop around to find one you really enjoy. There are many different ways of doing metta, and when you multiply that by the way some teachers sound, whether there is music or not, and the quality of recording, well... Some are hits, some are huge misses.
My recommendation is to find one you like and either stick to it, or better yet, simply do the meditation yourself.
A 30 Day guest pass to the Waking Up app - Amazing resource with 3 different metta modules under the "Practice" tab - Compassionate Awareness is one module, Metta (loving-kindness) is another, and Metta for Everyone.
Shinzen Young on Strong Determination Sits
18 Minute Metta Meditation with Samaneri Jayasara - My favorite of the guided meditations here. She is a fantastic resource, and she has plenty of readings and guided meditations on her Youtube.
35 Minute Metta Meditation with Jayasara - I did not check this video out, so if it isn't great, well..
23 Minute Tonglen Meditation by Tara Brach - Tonglen comes to us from the Tibetan Buddhists, and combines metta with compassion.
14 Minute Guided Metta Meditation with Ayya Khema - This one is interesting.
Rob Burbea Metta Retreat - These are the recordings of a metta meditation retreat led by Rob Burbea, a phenomenal teacher. These include some theory and are all longer sits though - great for strong determination sits!
A great 3 month course for the seriously-inclined beginner meditator, with a section on metta.
A great interview with the guy I learned jhanas from, describing their benefits.

2024.05.12 18:10 xmavrick47x Nothing short of transformational

I’m 6 months sugar-free and I’ve undergone a transformational experience. I’m sharing mine in hopes that it can help someone else.
I’m 32 and since age 5 I’ve always been sickly with a plugged up nose and many food sensitivities. Constant blowing, sneezing, snotting everywhere. Loads and loads of tissues. My mom was woke before it was trendy to eat healthfully; she knew about the dangers of sugar and processed foods and was strict on not having these in the house, but her efforts were sabotaged by my father who wanted us to have a “normal childhood” and would hide Lucky Charms in his car for us to eat after my she had left for work. Despite her best intentions and unwavering boundaries, my mom could not stop sugar from finding me. At school, friends’ houses, etc., sugar was everywhere and I became addicted like the majority of us. I knew of the importance of vegetables and whole foods and prioritized those, but man if there were cookies around I would eat the whole bag. I cannot self-moderate my sugar intake.
Besides the debilitating congestion, I’ve had various ailments develop in the last 10 years or so:
-red, itchy, flaky scalp (this turned out to be omega-3 deficiency, went away with fish oil supplementation) and dandruff (which is still present).
-belly fat: Historically my BMI has been at the upper end of the “normal” range: ~23.5-25. 5’6”, 145-155 lbs. From playing basketball, track and field, and being generally active I always had nice arms and legs but since puberty I’ve had a belly resembling the end of first trimester pregnancy. In the last few years I started looking heavier despite eating healthier, and could not drop the weight.
-When i was 28 I developed a lesion on my chest that kept growing bigger and bigger. Steroid creams made it go away, but it always returned intermittently.
-feeling exhausted and drained most hours of the day
-needing to eat every few hours and feeling constant hunger
-irritable, bitchy moods
-periodontitis, receding gumline
-persistently stinky underarms
The turning point came when I found a wonderful naturopath and I was at a point in my life where i was tired of being sick and tired and willing to make serious changes. For my allergic rhinitis we tested for IgG antibodies and the following foods came up: milk, cane sugar, tomatoes, corn, and some others, so she suggested I avoid those. In following this elimination diet, I had thought my previous diet was healthy but I didn’t realized how far I had drifted over time, and just how much sugar I was consuming.
The first three weeks were THE WORST. Constant cravings, yearning for sugar around the clock. Salivating when I saw my friend eat an ice cream sandwich. Wanting to give up, but moreso wanting to give the diet an honest chance b/c I knew if I continued eating like I had been, nothing would changed. I gorged on honey butter toast and apples to feed the craving. It took two weeks to notice any difference in my health, but then I noticed I wasn’t as congested and I could actually breathe through my nose for hours at a time. After three painstaking weeks of starting the diet, I started to notice the sugar cravings becoming weaker and more bearable.
2 months in, this is what I wrote in my journal:
-66% reduction in nasal congestion, snot, sneezing
-better face skin, less pink and inflamed
-better poops, less soiling
-Wetter sex and higher sex drive
-A lot less severity and frequency of the hangry
-lost 5-7 lbs
-cleaner feeling teeth
-brighter, happier mood
As I was able to breath normally more regularly and not sick all the time, I noticed honey, dried fruit, and coconut sugar all triggered my sneezing and congestion. Around the 3 month mark I decided to cut all sugars out besides fresh/frozen fruit. I still have cravings, and I don’t know if they will every fully disappear, but it’s fine if they don’t b/c they are MUCH weaker and easier to ignore. 3 months in my blood glucose tested at 80, I’ve never seen it that low, I usually have 87-95 levels.
I stumbled upon Dr. Robert Lustig’s work on Youtube, read his book Metabolical, and now I’m on Fat Chance. Studying his work has been life-changing for me… Sugar IS poison- this is not a hyperbole. I suspect I had insulin resistance which interfered with my leptin signaling which is why I felt hungry all the time, despite eating every few hours. After cutting sugar, there were several weeks where I felt full and satiated despite only consuming 1000 calories or less each day. The excess belly weight melted off (without exercise), likely due to my leptin signaling being restored. When I reached 140 lbs my hunger returned and I began to consume a normal amount of calories again. (TLDR for Dr. Lustig’s explanation: When you eat a lot of sugar, you develop insulin resistance, which causes leptin resistance (the hormone that tells your brain you’re full, you don’t need to eat, you have enough energy and the body can go into "burning” mode). If you’re brain can’t see your leptin, it doesn’t know you're fat and thinks you are starving and need to go into “energy storage" mode.)
85% of my diet now is meats (pasture-raised), fish, vegetables, nuts and seeds, sheep yogurt, avocados, avocado oil, ghee. I don’t count calories. I eat until I am full. I consume fats, saturated fats and proteins without abandon. I am mindful of my carbs, including starch. Sugar is a hard no with few exceptions, e.g. coconut aminos b/c it adds a ton of flavor to dishes and I don’t binge on it. Society loves to preach “everything in moderation” but the truth is most of us suck at moderation. For me personally, it’s easier to have clearly-defined rules and not have to endure decision fatigue deciding if you can afford to eat this or that b/c I always find some way to justify it and there goes another pint of Ben and Jerry’s. For the first time in my adult life, I feel good about my stomach and can see my ab lines forming. I weigh 137 lbs, less than what I weighed in the 8th grade.
My tips on what worked for me to beat this nasty addiction:
Motivation: Keep a food journal. Can be what you ate that day, your motivations for quitting, improvement in symptoms, successes, failures, your measurements, weight. Don’t feel obligated to write in it, only when you notice something worth documenting. When I have moments of weakness, I read my entries to remember I’ve been here before and I know how things will turn out if I eat sugar.
Strategy: Rather than an all-or-nothing approach, cut out different classes of sugars one at a time: e.g. all cane sugar, then coconut sugar, then honey and maple syrup. Tailor this to whatever your specific sugar-reduction goals are.
Mindset: Get the idea out of your mind that if you accidentally ate something with sugar or if you caved and intentionally ate sugar that your whole diet is ruined so you might as well throw in the towel. That is a sneaky mind trick to get you to return to your old ways. Falling off the horse does not cancel out all the prior wins you’ve achieved. As soon as you become mindful and/or have reestablished control of the craving, begin again.
For all of you with doubts if this is worth it. It unequivocally, absolutely was for me. I’m never going back. I’m not willing to be a slave to my cravings and not have energy and be a mouth-breather. Sugar may be derived from natural sources, but the end product is not natural; it is a highly concentrated and purified product that is dangerous independent of its calories- it wreaks havoc on our hormones that control weight, hunger and satiety.
IF YOU CAN GET THROUGH THE FIRST FEW WEEKS YOU WILL BEAT THIS.

2024.05.11 15:49 5L2L2 The Comprehensive Guide to Perfect Hair Care: Tips, Products, and Solutions

Introduction:
Welcome to our ultimate guide to achieving healthy, vibrant hair! In this comprehensive blog post, we'll delve into the intricacies of proper hair care, covering everything from selecting the right products to addressing common concerns like dryness, split ends, and hair loss. Whether you're a hair care novice or a seasoned enthusiast, this guide has something for everyone. Let's embark on a journey to unlock the secrets to gorgeous, luscious locks!
  1. Understanding Hair Care Products:
Hair care begins with choosing the right products tailored to your hair type and specific needs. Let's explore the various categories of hair care products and their functions:
Shampoos: The foundation of any hair care routine, shampoos cleanse the scalp and hair strands, removing dirt, oil, and product buildup. Look for sulfate-free formulas to maintain hair health and moisture balance.
Conditioners: Essential for replenishing moisture and nourishment, conditioners help detangle hair, reduce frizz, and improve manageability. Consider using a deep conditioner or hair mask weekly for added hydration and repair.
Serums and Oils: These lightweight, often silicone-based products provide shine, smoothness, and protection against heat and environmental damage. Apply a small amount to damp or dry hair to seal in moisture and tame flyaways.
Styling Products: From mousses and gels to creams and sprays, styling products help you achieve your desired look, whether it's voluminous curls or sleek, straight hair. Choose products that suit your hair texture and desired style without weighing it down or causing buildup.
To ensure you're making informed choices, consult reputable sources like Allure, Byrdie, and Into The Gloss for product recommendations, reviews, and ingredient insights.
  1. Essential Tips for Healthy Hair:
In addition to using the right products, adopting healthy hair care habits is crucial for maintaining optimal hair health. Here are some essential tips to incorporate into your routine:
Limit Washing: While it may be tempting to wash your hair daily, over-washing can strip the scalp of its natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. Aim to wash your hair 2-3 times per week, or as needed, depending on your hair type and activity level.
Minimize Heat Styling: Excessive use of heat styling tools like flat irons and blow dryers can damage the hair cuticle, causing breakage and split ends. Whenever possible, opt for air-drying or use heat-protectant products to shield your hair from damage.
Protect from UV Rays: Just like your skin, your hair is susceptible to damage from UV radiation. Wear a hat or use hair products containing UV filters when spending extended periods in the sun to protect your hair from UV-induced dryness and color fading.
Eat a Balanced Diet: Your hair's health is closely linked to your overall well-being. Incorporate nutrient-rich foods like leafy greens, fruits, lean proteins, and omega-3 fatty acids into your diet to support healthy hair growth and strength.
For evidence-based dietary recommendations, refer to studies from reputable sources like the American Academy of Dermatology and Harvard Medical School.
  1. Combatting Dryness and Split Ends:
Dryness and split ends are common concerns that can detract from the appearance and feel of your hair. Here's how to address these issues effectively:
Hydrate Regularly: Invest in moisturizing hair care products enriched with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, coconut oil, and shea butter to hydrate and nourish dry hair. Consider incorporating a weekly deep conditioning treatment or hair mask to restore moisture and improve elasticity.
Trim Regularly: Regular trims are essential for maintaining healthy hair and preventing split ends from traveling up the hair shaft. Visit your hairstylist every 6-8 weeks for a trim to remove any damaged or split ends and keep your hair looking fresh and vibrant.
Protective Styling: Minimize exposure to environmental aggressors and mechanical damage by opting for protective hairstyles like braids, buns, or twists. These styles help reduce friction and manipulation, preventing further damage to fragile ends.
For expert advice on combating dryness and split ends, consult renowned hair care experts featured in publications like Glamour, Cosmopolitan, and Harper's Bazaar.
  1. Addressing Hair Loss and Weakness:
Hair loss and weakness can be distressing issues that affect both men and women. Here are strategies to promote hair growth and strengthen weak hair:
Identify Underlying Causes: Hair loss can be attributed to various factors, including genetics, hormonal imbalances, stress, and medical conditions. Consult with a dermatologist or trichologist to determine the underlying cause of your hair loss and develop a targeted treatment plan.
Scalp Massage: Stimulate blood circulation to the scalp and promote hair growth by incorporating regular scalp massages into your hair care routine. Use your fingertips to gently massage the scalp in circular motions, focusing on areas of thinning or shedding.
Nutritional Support: Support healthy hair growth from within by ensuring you're getting an adequate intake of essential nutrients like vitamins A, C, D, E, B vitamins, iron, zinc, and protein. Consider taking supplements or modifying your diet to address any deficiencies.
For evidence-based recommendations on addressing hair loss and weakness, refer to studies published in reputable journals such as the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and the International Journal of Trichology.
Conclusion:
Achieving and maintaining healthy, beautiful hair requires a combination of proper care, effective products, and lifestyle habits. By following the tips and strategies outlined in this comprehensive guide, you can nurture your hair from root to tip and unlock its full potential. Remember, consistency and patience are key when it comes to hair care, so embrace the journey and enjoy the transformation!

How Does Sugar Defender Work?

Sugar Defender is designed to supply you with all-day energy and 24/7 blood sugar control. Although new, it has already changed the lives of tens of thousands of men and women all over the world.

So how exactly does it work?

First, Sugar Defender includes ingredients that are proven to help your body digest carbohydrates more slowly. This prevents your body from creating too much glucose at once, which can cause blood sugar spikes. Instead, your body slowly digests carbs, supplying you with a steady stream of energy – stopping the spike.
Secondly, Sugar Defender appears to help support the function and health of your pancreas. The pancreas is an organ in your body that is responsible for producing the hormone insulin, which helps the cells in your body absorb glucose. By ensuring your body has enough insulin, Sugar Defender makes sure your body can absorb the glucose in your bloodstream, preventing blood sugar levels from rising too high.
Third, Sugar Defender helps to improve what is known as insulin sensitivity. This refers to how “responsive” your cells are to insulin. For many people, simply exercising more can help improve your insulin sensitivity, but for others, it cannot. This is why products like Sugar Defender are so beneficial.
Several of the ingredients present in Sugar Defender contain compounds that can help your insulin sensitivity. This ensures the cells in your body can not only absorb glucose but use it as well. Plus, this is said to help prevent extra glucose in your bloodstream from being sent to your liver to be converted into fat, leading to fat accumulation and ultimately – weight gain.
Sugar Defender Is On Sale Now For A Limited Time!

Sugar Defender Ingredients

Sugar Defender was formulated with 24 of the most clinically studied and proven ingredients to help you better control your blood sugar levels.
While we won’t go through all of the ingredients found in Sugar Defender, here are the eight most important ingredients found in the product:

Sugar Defender Ingredients

Chromium:
Chromium is a key mineral needed to maintain healthy metabolism, athletic performance, and to maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Chromium may also help keep blood sugar levels stable by improving how the body uses insulin, making it easier for cells to absorb and use glucose.
Forskolin:
Forskolin has been only used to treat digestive disorders and infections like ringworm in the past. However, it also appears to promote fat burning by stimulating the production of certain enzymes like adenylate cyclase and lipase. Forskolin also appears to improve cardiovascular health by lowering blood pressure levels.
Maca root:
Maca root is a vegetable that grows primarily In the highest elevations in the Andes mountains. There it has been consumed by locals to boost energy and vitality, to balance hormone levels, and to relieve stress. It is considered an adaptogen as well, meaning it helps your body respond to stressors more effectively.
Ginseng:
Ginseng is primarily touted for its ability to relieve inflammation, improve digestion, and promote immunity. However, in recent studies, ginseng has been shown to increase insulin production and reduce cell death in pancreatic cells. Other studies have shown that ginseng can decrease blood glucose levels and limit blood sugar spikes, although the exact mechanism isn’t known.
Guarana:
Guarana is used by many for its ability to boost energy levels, thanks to its small amount of caffeine content. In certain studies, guarana has been shown to reduce fatigue, enhance energy levels, and aid in cognitive functions like memory and learning. In a few small-scale studies, guarana has been linked to better cardiovascular health as well.
African mango:
African mango has been around for almost a decade, having been made mainstream by Dr. Oz on his TV show. Studies have found that African mango can reduce appetite and improve lipolysis, which is the process of breaking down fat. African mango also appears to help your body better absorb glucose, which can better control blood sugar levels.
Gymnema:
Gymnema can reduce how much sugar the stomach can process. It also may help increase the amount of insulin produced by the pancreas and may even support the growth of cells in the pancreas. In over a dozen studies, gymnema has been able to reduce fasting, post-meal, and long-term blood sugar levels.
Eleuthero:
Eleuthero contains eleutherosides, which have been shown to reduce fasting and post-meal blood sugar levels in subjects with type 2 diabetes. Eleuthero has also been shown to contain chemicals that affect the brain, immune system function, and certain hormones.
These are just a few of the many ingredients found in Sugar Defender. We should note that there are no artificial ingredients, fillers, or additives found in Sugar Defender whatsoever. In addition, all of the ingredients found in this product are routinely tested for purity, potency, and quality to ensure only the finest quality ingredients are included in the final product.

Side Effects of Sugar Defender – Is Sugar Defender Safe?

Sugar Defender isn’t just one of the most effective supplements for better blood sugar control, it’s also one of the safest. It is so safe that as of this writing, there haven’t been any user reports of any major side effects developing while using this product.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t experience any side effects while using this product. After all, any supplement can cause minor side effects like nausea, indigestion, headaches, etc. However, the risk of experiencing these side effects is incredibly low.
