2023.10.28 23:18 WashingtonLaamajP Willing to assist? - Legislative campaign for secure storage provisions for visitors to gun free zones

Looking for those that are interested/willing to assist in trying to get a legislative requirement for gun free zones to provide secure storage for those who carry firearms.
I’m not looking for those who have a reason why its a bad idea, or how it won’t work, etc.
I want to attempt to work with DEMOCRATS and the specific boards to get this done. I will be meeting with my anti-gun State Senator in an attempt to get it done. For those that state it is a waste of time, perhaps, but its clear that relying exclusively on Republicans isn’t going to get anything passed in this state. If you disagree with this effort, please move on to the next post.
I want to start with our stadiums. All of our major stadiums in Seattle-Tacoma were built with tax dollars. All but one are still owned by local or state government, the exception is majority private with minority ownership and the land owned by local government.
T-MOBILE PARK. Is owned by King County and the State. It is overseen by a Stadium District board. Operations are contracted to MLBs Seattle Mariners.https://ballpark.org/board-meetings
LUMEN FIELD including WaMu Events Center is owned by the State and overseen by a different Stadium District Board. Operations are contracted to First and Goal which is the private entity that owns the NFL Seahawks and MLS Sounders. https://stadium.org/meet-psa/meetings/
CLIMATE PLEDGE ARENA is currently majority privately owned. Formerly as Key Arena it was wholly owned by the City of Seattle through the Seattle Center Department. It is the only stadium in recent memory that had lockboxes/check system provided, that is until the remodel and associated majority ownership change. https://climatepledgearena.com/fast-facts/, https://www.seattlecenter.com/connect/contact
TACOMA DOME (as well as Cheney Stadium and the Convention Center) is owned by the City via its Venue and Events Department. There is a relatively recent case regarding the Tacoma Dome. https://www.tacomavenues.org/contact
Legal Case:
https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/law-justice/retired-federal-way-police-officer-sues-after-tacoma-dome-wont-let-him-in-with-his-gun/
Here is the City's response to Stray's motion: https://docdro.id/TNgO53G
Supporting declarations: https://docdro.id/nVceXzq and https://docdro.id/LCAbgHr
Full case if anyone wants it: https://mega.nz/file/dkEwRDCS#WSgY1Gj5KNHVnhkrfOiJvkzF6N6m5sE5YUAlW1YbBDI
I'm also looking to address the following:
Seattle Convention Center (special municipal district)*
https://seattleconventioncenter.com/about-scc
Tacoma Convention Center (city owned)*
\I think screening is event specific?*
Seattle Theatre Group (private) owns most of our major historic theaters (The Moore, Paramount, Neptune). The Showbox (private), [market].
5th Ave theatre (private), [currently not an issue for concealed carry, but I expect that to change eventually]
The Gorge Ampatheatre (private)
Washington State Fairgrounds (private even though it sounds public)
Legislative:RCW 9.41.300 (3.b.) https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=9.41.300
“(b) Restricting the possession of firearms in any stadium or convention center, operated by a city, town, county, or other municipality, except that such restrictions shall not apply to:(i) Any pistol in the possession of a person licensed under RCW 9.41.070 or exempt from the licensing requirement by RCW 9.41.060; or(ii) Any showing, demonstration, or lecture involving the exhibition of firearms.
”NOTE: Only the Tacoma venues listed above and the Seattle Convention Center are operated by their government owners to my knowledge.
Private Property:
I know this is probably more controversial in this space, but my thinking regarding a legislative requirement is the reality that private properties open to the public are required to meet many federal, state, and local requirements. From the American w/Disabilities Act, to building and fire code requirements, to licensing requirements (state and local business license, Liquor and Cannabis Board as well as local requirements in some instances), etc, private properties operating in a business capacity are often required to meet certain legal requirements in order to operate. We know that gun stores (FFLs) and gun ranges have to meet requirements to conduct business.
As it concerns our federal and state constitutional provisions concerning firearms (2nd Amendment, Article 1, Sec. 24), a requirement to provide a lock box and/or check system to allow people to exercise that right while respecting the private property owners rights to have a gun free zone are reasonable in my opinion. I know there are some out there that think this is unacceptable, but I’m approaching this from the perspective that if you can’t carry on property, you need to be provided a place to securely store your firearm while accessing the property.
Plan of Attack:
For CLIMATE PLEDGE ARENA (Seattle Center), the security office moved from the loading dock of Key Arena to the Armory building. Lockboxes (w/check system) are provided there, as they used to be in Key Arena. The problem is that the Armory closes at 9pm and when the campus is rented out (i.e. Bumbershoot) you can’t access the security office with a firearm because it is within the gun free zone.
I propose that we write the Department Director of the Seattle Center and request provisions be put into place so that the lockboxes are available after 9pm for retrieval of checked firearms. Most concerts and some sporting events do not end before 9pm. This should be the easiest of the sites because the infrastructure, policies, and processes are already in place. At the old Key Arena, you showed your CPL to the police officer at the door, they escorted you to the security office where you filled out a form (that was returned to you when you left, they did not keep copies). You placed your firearm into the box in the presence of the Security Officer, and you left. When you retrieved the firearm, you had to immediately leave the Arena. For Climate Pledge, they need to have a door, number, or buzzer where you can be escorted into the building (Armory) after 9pm and escorted out of the building after you retrieve your firearm. A process should be put into place when events like Bumbershoot take place, a police officer should escort you to the security office in the armory, and due to logistics, escort you to the exit when you leave (requires a change in RCW 70.108.150 music festivals).
If this has to go to the Mayor and City Council, its dead in the water, but we may be able to get this small change by addressing the Department Director (and not generating media attention).
For the TACOMA DOME (and Cheney Stadium), we should do the same, the difference being they do not have a process in place and we are unlikely to get a favorable outcome. We still need to start with the Department Director. The Tacoma Mayor and City Council members were contacted in 2019(?) about this and were non-responsive, that was one letter from one non-resident. To push this, we will likely need to attend a City Council Meeting and use the public comment time to introduce this (follow up on correspondence submitted) to get the ball rolling. This is the one venue on this list that should fall clearly on RCW 9.41.300, but they have managed to get around it. We especially need Tacoma residents to lead this effort.
For LUMEN FIELD/EVENT CENTER, T-MOBILE PARK, SEATTLE CONVENTION CENTER who are "owned" by Special Districts, We need to write the board members. Like the City Council, we need to attend the board meetings of each of the districts and follow-up during the public comment period of their meetings. Both the board members (as well as a King County council member) were contacted in 2019 regarding Safeco field. The Council Member rejected that they had any control over Safeco Field, but the issue did make onto the Agenda of a board meeting with the Mariners. A high profile event took place at that meeting and they never got to this item, and it never surfaced again. Lumen Field's board did not respond.
These boards are going to say that it is an issue for the operators that are leasing the facility operations to - MLB/NFL/MLS etc. and these private entities who have no accountability to the public are not going to voluntarily make any changes regarding this subject. Our goal is to force these public boards, who are accountable to the people, to take this issue on.
We need to write these entities, but WE WILL HAVE TO ATTEND THE BOARD AND COUNCIL MEETINGS to actually get movement on this, anyone who has been involved in gun legislation knows that writing a legislator whose position is not in line with yours is not going to give a letter much credence.
For the PRIVATELY OWNED VENUES, the only course of action we have is legislation at the state level. They are not going to take this on voluntarily.
I put forward that we need to meet with our Legislators and bring this issue to their attention. Its best to meet with them, and not send them a lettee-mail. This needs to be done before the Legislative season starts, preferably this month. legislators are available to meet outside the legislative session, now is the time to talk to them, not when they are busy and in-session.
Finally, the media is not our friend. The quieter this stuff can get done, the more likely it is to get done. Most people don’t know their are lockboxes in the Seattle Center Armory. If that hits the news the Mayor and Council will probably do their best to get rid of it. Most people don’t know or get involved with government meetings outside of the City/County/State or School Board, they don’t go to the Fire, Cemetery, Hospital, Stadium, Convention center board meetings, we need to fill this space. Of course, like most government meetings, they take place during business hours when most of us are at work.
Legislative Environment:
Despite the SCOTUS wins in Bruen and McDonald, we know that not only are Democrat controlled states not embracing the ruling, but they are putting up more barriers. New York, California, Maryland and others are passing legislation to make as many places sensitive areas as they can. Sadly Bruen would support the designation of these venues as sensitive places. We know that we will probably see the fight focus on the elimination of state preemption, which will effectively result in the expansion of sensitive places. The legislature may very well add sensitive places not to the level that the other states have.
I know that there are some of you reading this who simply think “get a lockbox or safe for your car and your good”. Well, the problem with that is 1) you are exposed from your vehicle to the entry doors of the gun free zone. 2) Even if you do those things, an increasing number of passenger vehicles don't have a true locking trunk/compartment in addition to the safe. 3) Not everyone has an automobile or truck. Some people are reliant on public transportation or ride share services. Some bike, walk, or use a motorcycle. Leave it in your vehicle is not a solution for some for many reasons.
If you response to this is that you live in rural Washington, you don’t come into Seattle/Tacoma, your firearm is exclusively for sport or only for self defense in the home, your lifestyle is such that you don’t attend events at the places listed above, that's good for you I guess but for the rest of us, we need the ability to secure our firearms when we are visiting these gun free zones, regardless of whether we agree with the location being a gun free zone or not. The people in control of Washington are not going to change their minds on gun control including gun free zones. If you believe there is some large contingent of non voting conservative republicans that are going to bring a red wave to this state, great…. But for the rest of us, Whether you call it a concession, or a compromise, etc, I seek a solution that will allow these sites to maintain their gun free zone status while providing those that wish to exercise their 2A/Art. 1 Sec. 24 rights the ability to do so. If successful, this will represent an improvement over the current conditions for those who carry and have business at these locations.
Finally, I want to address the Gorge Ampatheatre. For anyone who has attended an event at that venue, you know that it is a 2+ hour drive through rural Washington from the state’s three largest cities to get there. You know that Grant County prohibits parking on the public roads for miles around the venue. I don’t question their policy on prohibiting firearms on their property. I’m not 100% sure if RCW 70.108.150 applies to the parking lot or just the secure portion of the concert grounds. But I find it unreasonable to prohibit firearms and not have a provision of secure storage at this site. You cannot park in a nearby parking lot within reasonable walking distance, you cannot park down the road and walk.
Whether we agree with them or not, we cannot get rid of gun free zones in this state. We need to work with the majority party and see if we can get provisions into place that will allow us to carry while allowing them to maintain their gun free zones. Its not perfect, but it would be better then what is currently in place for those who carry outside the home.
If you have interest in taking this on, or are willing to put forward energy into it, please respond below. For those that are opposed, please start your own movement in another thread/post.

2023.03.07 15:02 rkay0820 Demise of ICE -- "the strongest car purchase subsidy policy in Hubei history"

https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/EYdqCU39VhW7-dkHTkpv1w
Take the Dongfeng Citroen C6 Co-creation Edition with a guide price of 211,900 yuan as an example. After comprehensive government and enterprise subsidies, it only needs 121,900 yuan, and the subsidy amount is as high as 90,000 yuan (45,000 yuan for the manufacturer and 45,000 yuan for the government)!
These are discounts you offer in a desperate attempt to save jobs / factories which invariably fail in the long run
Automobile is the largest pillar industry in Hubei Province, and the GDP of the automobile industry exceeds 1/5 of the province's total. Hubei has 8 complete vehicle companies and 13 complete vehicle production plants, and has gathered more than 1,400 parts and components companies and 1,578 scale-related companies in the automotive industry. Even the Economic Development Zone in Wuhan is called "China's Automobile Valley".
In the first half of 2022, the wholesale volume of Dongfeng Peugeot is 27,700 vehicles, but the insured volume of compulsory vehicle traffic insurance shown by the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission is only 10,900 vehicles. The wholesale volume of Dongfeng Citroen is 22,400 vehicles, but the actual vehicle compulsory insurance coverage is only 15,000 vehicles.
According to statistics, the wholesale volume of some models of Dongfeng Peugeot and Dongfeng Citroen is several times higher than the sales volume, and dealers are under great inventory pressure.
So across the board ICE cars are piling up at dealerships
In Province like Hubei you may be forced to subsidize ICE vehicle production but in Provinces that do not have ICE factories you are more likely to subsidize NEV purchases to generate economic growth
6 largest cities all have Bid / Auctions & Lotteries to restrict ICE sales
They will have same economic headwinds as Hubei
For them & other parts of China who do not have ICE auto plants, NEV subsidies seem inevitable to achieve 5% GDP growth being targeted by Govt.
Expect a plethora of economy boosting subsidies just like Hubei JMHO DYODD

2023.01.26 15:27 James_Blond_006 Literarisches Stück: Opera No.1 Enttarnung

2022.12.16 22:37 elsydeon666 [OTHER] [GUIDE] How to make your UI work for you.

The User Interface is not just what you use to control a machine, but what the machine uses to provide information to you.
Since I have not seen any good guides that I have seen for optimizing a UI, simply how to configure addons and what addons to use, I am making one.
This guide does NOT talk about addons or how to use them. It was just as well with Pitbull and WeakAuras as it does with scrawling on your monitor with a crayon.
Good UI design is not just making a UI that is pretty and gets upvotes. It is about making a UI that enhances your ability to interface with WoW.
A great place to start is to look at an interface that exists, is in common use worldwide, has had decades of development, and has to have a good UI or else people can get fined, get hurt or die, the automobile.
  1. Use medium-appropriate readable fonts. Highway Gothic is one of the most-seen fonts in the real world, as it is the standard font family for road signs all over the world. It is designed to be quickly readable, with letters that present no ambiguity. Instrument clusters use easy to read fonts since, while automakers do want their gauges to look pretty, they would prefer you to look at the road. Hard to read fonts make the brain take longer to read. That is time that should be spent doing other things, like killing bosses and avoiding stuff on the ground.
  2. Use graphs to avoid reading at all. When you drive, you usually aren't actually looking at the numbers on the gauges, but simply were the needles are. Most of your gauges are designed so the needle being in the middle is where things should be under normal conditions. The fuel gauge is simple enough. More is better. In fact, many times, these gauges don't even have numbers, just some variant of "low" and "high" with a red area for "Pull over before really bad things happen." The speedometer is the only gauge you actually even need numbers on. A lot of 80's vehicles have 55MPH specifically marked as the 1979 National Maximum Speed Law required that marking. This encouraged driving 55MPH, the national speed limit, since all you had to do was line the needle up to the number that intentionally sticks out. Skyrim has a HP bar without text. You don't need to know if you have exactly 145/360 HP. You need to know just how badly the dragon mauled you. I have seen UIs that try to eliminate the HP bars for text. This increases workload on your brain, since it processes pictures faster than text, which is literally a bunch of pictures (called letters) that are used to create words to convey information.
  3. Text or marks should be used with a graph it is requires a point of reference or precision. Text and marks should enhance a graph, not replace it. The speedometer requires text since, without text, there is no point of reference for the needle. A lot of 80's cars had 85MPH speedometers, due to the National Maximum Speed Law, but earlier and later cars do not have that standardized scale and so require numbers for points of reference. Speedometers have multiple marks to mark specific speeds at regular intervals. Many of these have text, but some speedometers eschew marking all the marks with text. A speedometer marked 0-20-40-80-100-120 can have marks between those marks to indicate 10MPH and halfway between marks is 5MPH. Some speedometers have large numbers of small marks to indicate 1MPH increments and some eschew those marks as it causes visual clutter. With WoW, you want text so you know how many HP you and your target have and percentages since many mechanics are based on bosses getting to certain percentages. Raid healers need to be able to quickly triage between the Rogue with 85% of not much health and the PvP-geared Warlock with 50% of an absurd amount of HP.
  4. Bar graphs formed into arcs and circles work "good enough", but bar graphs in straight lines work better. Some older cars (50's-80's) had linear speedometers that were huge, but provided very clear and concise readings. Sarthe's WeakAura for DK Runes replaces the standard Blizzard Runes, which are circles with pretty designs on them, for six colored bars. The brain tries to predict everything. Straight lines are easiest to predict.
  5. Modal interfaces are amazing! An interface should provide the information you need and nothing more. However, what information you need changes based on your situation. Saab, a Swedish carmaker that also produces military aircraft, had a famous feature called "Night Mode" that only illuminated the gauges you needed to pay attention to. By default, only part of the speedometer was illuminated. If you ran low on fuel, the fuel gauge lit up. If you went fast, the rest of the speedometer lights up. Driving at night has a higher workload than driving during the day, so the car reduces that workload by suppressing unneeded information. Many vehicles eschew gauges for warning lights (commonly called "idiot lights") and the Malfunction Indicator Lamp ("Check Engine" light) has been required on many vehicles since the 1996 model year. Many vehicles make a chime when a gauge needs attention as well. More advanced vehicles have an information center that displays what is needed in natural(ish) language. While us DPS players love topping meters and big numbers, such information is no actually needed during a boss fight. What is needed is threat, to avoid pulling. Healers don't need meters at all! HPS is irrelevant. Your raid lives or you run back and try again. Raid leaders sometimes want real-time meters for failed mechanics. That is nothing more than a distraction. You can yell at your people after the wipe. Many players have an overall damage done meter. It is also useless during a raid. If you want to see who is slacking, do it after the raid. If you have mulitple Details windows in your UI, not only are you not taking advantange of modal UIs, but using up real estate that can be used for other things or seeing what is going on.
  6. Simplify! If you don't need it, don't have it. Limosines have wine fridges and dividers in the back. Millionaires like to get drunk, but their drivers don't want to be distracted by naked models. If you have meters, bars, frames, etc. you aren't really using, get rid of them.
  7. Keep your commonly used tools and your urgent emergency tools at hand and your situational tools in close by. Commonly used tools and controls and those that have to be used in an emergency should be easy to reach and operate without looking. Many cars have various controls, typically cruise control and radio, on the steering wheel that are designed to be used by touch without the driver taking their eyes off the road. The hazard light switch is usually a big red button in the middle of the dash or a switch on top of the steering column. German law requires all vehicles to have a first aid kit and every driver have first aid training and a duty to assist. Many cars came with a spare tire and a toolkit to allow the driver to change it without calling a tow truck. These items are not in the driver's lap, but are accessible when needed. A lot of good WoW UIs have a section of buttons in the middle and a section at the bottom. The middle section is higher priority things and the bottom is for things like buffs, conjuring pets and water, etc. that you need, but don't need in your face.
  8. Know your priorities. Sports cars have the tachometer central and bigger than the speedometer because racing is prioritizes shifting at the right time to keep the engine in its power band and to prevent overrevving, while the actual speed is a non-issue. Raid healers should have raid frames more central to the screen, since their job is keeping those bars full. DPS simply needs to know if the raid is wiping so they can wipe efficiently and get back to the next attempt. Tanks may want special frames for the other tanks so they can see debuffs on them. Addons that announce interrupts were amazing in Nefarian's End phase 2.
  9. Theft is the highest form of flattery. Car companies steal ideas from each other all the time. Feel free to take something that works and use it. There is nothing illegal or unethical about stealing ideas.

Lordstown Motors likely to provide hub motors for other OEM?
Another OEM (that is contracted to build in Lordstown) has released a patent that shows they are likely going to use hub motors.
This OEM has stated in the past that their vehicle will have AWD and the patent states that their rear gate will lower into a cartridge behind the rear bumper. This is where EV's with conventional motors have motors and drivelines. Using in-wheel motors is the only way to make room for this rear gate cartridge.
This other OEM has said they plan on making 250k vehicles per year in Lordstown. That would constitute 1M hub motor sales per year. This would generate significant revenue for LMC!

2022.06.13 01:25 sheilastretch Bicycles and Infrastructure

Introduction
"The first thing to recognize is that there actually is a lot of wasted space on the streets that cars don’t (or at least shouldn’t) use. What’s more, it would be fairly inexpensive — both fiscally and politically — to start handing over more of this space to pedestrians." - https://whyy.org/articles/how-to-squeeze-more-pedestrian-space-out-of-phillys-narrow-streets/
Safe, accessible walking and bicycling infrastructure makes communities safer for everyone, especially when accessibility for people with disabilities. People with freedom of mobility can work and care for themselves. Ability to move around provides additional opportunities for communities to grow and take care of themselves. Strong community connections have been shown as a key elements to saving lives during heatwaves, floods, and other climate-related dangers.

How Bike-Friendly Infrastructure Gives Us Safer Communities

Some motorists see cyclists as nuisances, not realizing how much danger their own vehicles pose to everyone else on the road and the community. Studies have found that bikes, especially in conjunction with safety improvements such as protected bike lanes actually increase public safety. Protected bike lanes and bike-friendly paths can be used by wheelchair and push-chair users, meaning accessibility and safety is improved. Dangerous air pollution and traffic-related run off is reduced. Potential customers travel at slower speeds which boosts local economies, and since regular riders have more spending money than car-owners, they statistically spend more than drivers). More eyes and ears on community roads which come with increased walking/biking has been shown to reduce crime rates, while the explosion of car-use has been linked with increased crime rates, deaths, and inequality.
Despite a growing understanding of how beneficial increase bike usage is for society and reducing emissions, one survey found that 52% globally say cycling in their area is too dangerous a further 62% of those surveyed also "say new road and infrastructure in their area should prioritize bicycles over automobiles". A survey of 28 countries found that only 12% of adults commute by bike.

(The above is a 7:39 minute video designed to educate about how bikes provide freedom and self sufficiency to people with visible and invisible health conditions.)
The article 'A rolling walking stick': why do so many disabled people cycle in Cambridge? explains that "Riding a bike may be easier than walking for two-thirds of disabled cyclists, but they often remain invisible to society. Many don’t realize that more than a quarter of disabled commutes in this university city are made by bike"
The 2 minute video, East Coast Greenway Safe Greenways Are Essential explains the value of areas separated from traffic for people to both avoid accidents, enjoy life while struggling with health issues, and have a safe place to recover from traumatic events.
Information like this is important to understand while advocating for or planning the expansion and improvement of car-free infrastructure. Able-bodied cyclists might have the ability to dismount and lift their bike on or off a curb, around a badly placed utility post, over a ditch, or other common barriers, but not everyone in the community can enjoy such luxuries. When we design and plan, we need to assume that disabled, very young, or inexperienced users can be seriously harmed or killed by poorly planned infrastructure.
