2024.05.21 23:58 cumberground I Think I've Been Hacked

Three days ago, I was using my Twitter account, as I do everyday, when I was interrupted by a message saying "You must prove you are human." This never happens in the middle of using; only after logging in. So I clicked their "Prove Authenticity" icon, and was sent through a series of puzzle tests, of matching shapes and numbers, which I've never seen before. It takes 10 match-ups to complete a round of tests, but after each one, I get the message "That was not right. Try again." No mater how many times I try, it's never "right." And in one test was a shape, with no match, so was impossible to get "right."
I tried contacting support, but no matter by what means I use, that "Prove Authenticity" icon pops up in my face. So I am blocked from contacting anyone inside Twitter.
Has anyone else gone through this? Is there any solution to this or has the hacker won?

2024.05.21 23:33 Ok-Significance-1752 Sorry for being a bit late with this story I had several other projects and schoolwork I had to do but here it is. How Martlet and Papyruses puzzle helped the entertainment industry.

Martlet and Papyrus are two names that are rather famous throughout the Undertale and Undertale yellow communities. Of course, there are many things that come to mind when you here both names. Papyrus for example is the loud. arrogant, but kind skeleton that is the brother to the funny Skeleton Man (Sans). Martlet on the other hand you might remember as kind of a mother figure to clover if you support the idea of momlet or maybe just the puzzle loving bird friend of clover. Each of these characters have unique fates for each Fanfiction a member of our beloved community writes. Whether its romance, tragedy, or a simple slice of life fanfic. So where do these two falls in my little world of a second human monster war. Well, it might be a bit more complex than one might think.

Opening UN Archives.

The second monster human war was the most destructive war in history and resulted in the destruction of several Undertale AUs and monster race losing 90% of their population all because they followed a racist and mentally Ill scientist name Chujin. As tragic of this sounds it doesn't mean people tried to improve the aftermath and make life easier. Papyrus and Martlet are a good example of this.
Martlet was born in the human year 1959 at an unknown date. Accounts of her early life and parents have been lost to history to due Asgor and the monsters general poor record keeping with Alphy's and Chujin being the only ones who kept some records of sorts. It's possible this poor record keeping is why Chujin thought the monster population was bigger than it actually was. What we do know is Martlets part the events of what the United Nations Elimination of Monsters Coalition calls Undertale Yellow are and some of her life just before the events. It's suggested by Human historians that Martlet got into puzzles when she was possibly 12 in human years but that's just a rough idea. Interviews with her few surviving friends state that she made her first puzzle at 6 years old in monster years which is roughly 14 years old in human years. To further complicate things is the fact that different monsters age differently than others with Martlets species having the closest correlation to human years out of all monsters.
Payrpus birth and exact age are harder to track down. All we know is that he and his brother Sans (Currently living in New Ebot in Colorado. Mt Ebot is in Colorado) appeared in the underground out of nowhere in 1980 on the [Redacted] of [Redacted]. Papyrus took a job as a royal guard somewhere between 1980-1981 and met Martlet possibly around that time. We both know based on William Henderson's interview with Papyrus and a mention by Flowey that they exchanged blueprints for their respective puzzles on occasions and while Papyrus describes her as his closest friend Sans stated that "She was simply my brothers pen pal" whether this was Sans simply messing with Willaim Henderson or him saying the true we'll never know.
EVENTS OF UNDERTALE YELLOW
The turning point in Martlets life came on May 12th when a certain kid named Clover fell into the underground. Clover was born on the 4th of July 1969 though his family moved to the to the town of Ebot Colorado in 1978. He never got to meet his father until 1975 due to his father's enlistment into the Unified states of the Americas army during the Vietnam war. (1962-74. This is an Alternate Vietnam the US still loses however) When his father came back, he was a drunken and PTSD ridden mess. Clover's mother was little better as she was rather neglectful and lazy. Clovers Unhealthy Family life would play a role into going ahead with his plan to find the forgotten 6 children who had gone missing throughout the 60s and 70s. He developed a fascination with cowboys when watching western movies (Particularly the old ones) along with a cowboy attire. He wore this attire proudly. Due to his family life, he matured rapidly. When his friend Integra (The soul integrity) went missing when she was dared to climb MT Ebot it was the final nail in the coffin for him and he began to prepare himself for an expedition into the mountain. He bought a Coll-Wesson revolver and rope by stealing money from his father. (He was beaten for this) on May the 12th he climbed Mt Ebot and jumped into the underground and died.... Oh, wait no Flowey brought him back to life without him knowing. Clover then met Flowey around 30 minutes later starting his journey.
Martlet in the meantime was lazily relaxing in one of the many checkpoints in the Snowdin area. The exact time she met clover is unknown, but it was most likely 1 hour after she had sent a list of suggestions to how Payprus could improve his puzzles. Martlet originally tried to follow protocol and capture clover however after seeing how peaceful clover was, she gave up on it. Then after their failed attempt to get to the hot lands, the fiasco in the wild east, and meeting Ceroba and Chujin, Ceroba (Chujin is alive in my story, but Kanko is not and was killed by integrity according to Chujin) was revealed to want clovers soul to bring back Kanako. Chujin was horrified at the thought of killing an innocent kid and went against his wife's wishes (Unknown to the others this was a ploy to gain trust) Martlet and clover spoke briefly on a hotel rooftop before going with Starlo and Chujin to face Ceroba. Ceroba knocked Martlet, Starlo, and Chujin (Who was only pretending) out. Clover battled it out with Ceroba on the 13ths of May. Clover came close to winning until Chujin drove a knife through his back killing him. Chujin then asked Ceroba to not use clovers soul to bring back monster kind but to instead to give it to Asgor so monster kind can be free. (Chujin is still the royal scientist in my AU) Ceroba after some arguing agrees with Chujin as Martlet and Starlo begin to wake up. Chujin calls the royal guard who apprehend Starlo but Martlet Barely escapes by flying away.
Knowing her time was now limited she sent the last Blueprints to Papyrus before the royal Guard burst into her home at around midnight and captured her. Martlet and Starlo were executed by undying on the 14th of May early morning. While Martlets story came to an end her legacy and puzzles did not as Papyrus received her blueprints on the 14th and would hide them from the royal guard.
EVENTS OF THE SECOND HUMAN MONSTER WAR AND PAPYRUSES RISE TO FAME.
Papyrus would with the help of Sans create more puzzle's and preserve Martlets puzzles. Then on September 4th, 1984, Frisk fell into the underground and was killed by Undying. After this Papyrus was ordered to destroy his puzzle's as they now had no use to monster kind as the invasion of the surface was inevitable. Papyrus as a sign of things to come suggested instead of destroying the puzzles they should be used to entertain monster kind's children. Undying would allow it and Papyrus who still wanted to hunt the humans though his loyalty was shaken by martlets execution agreed to be in the first wave out of the underground. On the 10th of September the monster climbed up to the surface for the first time.
The sight was so breathtaking many simply forget that they were invading. Chujin fear that the humans would be waiting for them up on the surface ready to exterminate monster kind was proven false within the first day as no human was spotted on the first day. Chujin still refused to believe reports and still ordered the invasion forward. Papyrus spent the first day trying to make more puzzles. On the 11th the town of Ebot was spotted and attacked by Asgors army and Chujins boss monsters and axis models. Papyrus was in the attack but quickly simply broken down as he watched the monsters slaughter humans indiscriminately. What made Papyrus ultimately desert the Royal Guard was the Human police's along with the 9th National Guards battalions last stand as they bought time for the civilians to evacuate the time. Papyrus stated in his interview with William Henderson decades later "IT WAS THEN ON THAT DAY I KNEW WE HAD LOST THE WAR. THE HUMANS PROVED BOTH BRAVER AND FAR KINDER THAN THE GREAT PAPYRUS AND MONSTER KIND!! IF THE GREAT PAPYRUS COULD GO BACK IN TIME HE WOULD HAVE GLADLY FOUGHT WITH THOSE BRAVE HUMANS!!"
Papyrus and later his brother Sans would go into hiding for most of the war until 1996 when they switched sides and joined the Commonwealth of Britannia's army. They would serve in the Commonwealths army until 1998 when they both retired. It was around this time when Papyrus began his journey to help the entertainment industry and carry on Martlets puzzle making legacy. The second human monster war by the time he had retired had gone on for 14 brutal years and large amounts of homes and cities had been destroyed. Papyrus would turn his attention to entertaining the many children who had lost their fathers and mothers during the ongoing conflict by hosting's puzzle solving challenges. Many of these puzzles' Martlets puzzles, and these proved to be a favorite among human children. Sans also helped and had stopped being lazily for once in his life.
When interviewed by William Henderson and asked what inspired him to do this he stated. "THE GREAT PAPYRUS SIMPLY DOESNT WATCH AS CHILDREN CRY IN THEIR SLEEPY AND REMAIN SAD. ITS NOT WHAT THE GREAT PAPYRUS DOES." The entertainment industry caught onto what Papyrus was doing in 2000 and offered to not only to fund his puzzle challenges but to make them into a game show of sorts. The show "Papyruses puzzles" was born as a result of this and has remained popular ever since. Sans found his calling in the fast-food industry and opened up his own fast-food chain to honor Grillbies who had died during the war. Papyrus would give a lot of credit to Martlet for helping him discover puzzles and funded the building of a statue in her honor.
WHAT PAPYRUS IS DOING NOW.
Papyrus is currently these days is donating much of his money to the protection of the underground charity and has recently created the Blue Bird Puzzle Corporation (Refence to Martlet). Martlet was dug up by UNEMC soldiers (United Nations Eliminations of Monsters Coalition) and was buried under a second statue made in her honor in Snowdin next to the Statue of Clover and the 6 other souls. Papyrus pays a visit to her grave once very 6 months. An inscription on her statue reads "The one that inspired THE GREAT PAPYRUS to make puzzles."

2024.05.21 22:34 AcceptableImage3506 I can't get a grasp on who I am.

This is a lot and I am sorry in advance for not being able to tldr this. i dont know whats going on. From a very young age I was taught a lot of things concerning how to treat people. The do's the don'ts and everything in between right? So I've led a lot of my life with those values being put first and then naturally I learned what a lie was. I never forgot and overtime I keep learning that people can do such horrible things and mask it all with a smile. Watching my mother go through things and seeing her say "It's okay, you just gotta be strong." is where it started. The silent urge in the back of my head to "be strong". I started to become obsessed with it and a lot of unhealthy practices started. At first I thought it was about knowledge so I became that "know it all prodigy" and found that I still got hurt by things. Then it was onto the next definition. And the next. And the next. I started exploring every single version of "strength" I could by putting myself in positions where I would get horribly hurt for doing something. All so I could try to teach myself the kind of strong that I thought would make me "invincible". No I never asked for help. Instead I wrote journal entries that were filled with manic ramblings about the one emotion I couldn't seem to wrap my head around. Being a teenage boy that was obviously love. I found a girl who I fell in love with, truly. We will call her Six. She gave me hell. I have never been in more mental anguish then when I was dealing with her. She had been treated horribly too by life and she was in shambles. I thought it an act of love to try to help her. "I can fix her" basically. The journey of "teaching myself" really started when I met her. From the age of 12 till now I spent so much time with her being used, manipulated, and hurt over and over and then going back to try and figure out where I went wrong.
I was laser focused on this. Surely someone else could see what I saw out of the world right? Someone had to.
I branched out and began dealing with other girls in my vicinity, emotionally experimenting with them to pick up bits and pieces to the puzzle of my twisted "bigger picture". And I forgot. I forgot every single girl I dealt with that wasn't her or an actual friend. Overtime, the initial goal of learning actually faded. I forgot it entirely because someone told me that I was hurting myself by dealing with her, something I had neglected to accept. I separated from her and as far as reality was concerned, I was a hurt boy being hurt by a hurt girl. I worked on myself and mentally I began to focus on the positivity that my mother initially instilled in me as a child. I stopped dealing with a lot of people and I completely forgot about that whole strength obsession. Might as well have been a phase but no. One heart break via someone else and some time later and now I'm in a new relationship. I was happy with this girl too. She didn't deserve any of what happened next. I found my old journals and I read them because I had forgotten they existed. I got sick a few days after that and it was bad. Like victorian child bad. Convinced that it had something to do with the old journals, I ended up leaving the girl. I felt like she would most certainly get hurt if she kept dealing with me. As fate would have it, I was back to better health in 2 days. I went through senior year with my positive streak, keeping a small crew close so I had friends and I met Six again. She said she changed and I believed her because I still had feelings for her. A relationship started and she put me through the same hell only it didn't take me 6 years to leave. I attempted to help her. I tried to give her everything she needed. I put my best foot forward for her only for her to continue to mistreat me at every turn. I was angry about it. Angry that the one thing I genuinely gave everything to was spitting in my face. I left after 6 months. Let me say that I have never been openly angry to anyone a day in my life until the day I left her. I was yelling in the middle of the road as she had tried to trap me into staying with her by showing up at my job. The thought started after that day. I began openly talking to myself. Poking and prodding at myself to hold her accountable for what she did instead of blaming myself for it. To get a get back or something. I always replied as if I was another person, reprimanding a friend for saying something really concerning. Then I started really paying attention to what I was saying to myself and I realized I was making sense. The negativity that I was speaking out made sense and now I was rushing to my journal to write out another entry. Reading that entry back I am concerned. Titled in bunched up letters, "iknowtoomuch" was an essay where I rambled about knowing too much about people and how they perceived life mentally, physically, and spiritually and that I could see people for what they could really be and how I could try to help them become their best selves and if they didnt want to, I would make them. Manipulate them even. I was convinced that I knew some guide to mental perfection and everyone else was the problem for not listening amongst things about hurting people who were labeled as "failures" by my standards.
And I am horrified. I can't unsee the words or unhear the things I said. I can't stop thinking about the goals that revealed themselves after I finished reading. The silent agendas in my head that kept telling me to let people use me, to smile and put all of that genuine kindness forth as some sort of weapon that people could use against me. Now I feel that I can't even look at some of my friends because I know they're only here as guinea pigs. People that have been hurt in various ways, sharing all of their problems and experiences with the "therapist friend" just so I can learn what makes a person tick at the end of the day. Then I offered them my sincerity by giving them genuine help that could nudge them in the right direction. It always made me happy to find that my thoughts and methods were helping people. Their lives were always perfect after they listened. And then there it is. Even now I'm talking in the same way as before because I can't get it out of my head now.
Am I my mothers son? Someone who helps people because he was raised to? Or am I crazy as hell and forcing my twisted and everchanging ideals on these people? Feigning kindness just to prove that my methods of being "strong" can work and that through controlling others I can be strong myself without having to lock my heart away. Whats even worse is that I can't even find a fault in the second statement. To me it sounds right! It sounds just! I don't know what to think anymore.
Then I ask myself, how the hell am I weaponizing being healthy? That part is what doesn't make sense to me. Isn't what I'm doing just helping people? Getting them out of tight spots by telling them better and healthier things to do? That's what it feels like. Then it gets worse. And I remind myself that I wrote;
"I know so much. You. Reading this. I know you. I know you so well that you reading this was something I orchestrated. Every person I interact with, I see every possibility for what or who they truly are. I spend my days worrying about what the next person could do to me. What I could do to them."
and now I know that I can hurt people as well as help them and the idea that I can just flip the switch becomes intoxicating. Then I'm horrified at myself all over again.

2024.05.21 21:57 bookwormsub F/51 Looking for platonic friends

Hello everyone.
I'm a 51 year old female that lives in Florida. I would love to have someone to chat with about shared interests (at least some). I can send either hand written letters or typed, or we can text or email. I will NOT share pictures of myself.
Now a bit about me, I love to cook and bake and I love to share recipes. I'm not a healthy eater. LOL I believe in butter, sugar, oil, etc to make my food taste good. I love easy crosswords and logic puzzles - both in books (pennydellpuzzles.com) and online (conceptispuzzles.com). Maybe we can share puzzles and work on them together (but obviously not at the same time - LOL)? I love board games, domino games, card games. I would love to have you as a friend at boardgamesarena.com. I love playing new games at least once or twice to see if I like it. I also quilt mostly, but I occasionally also crochet and cross stitch (very occasionally). I used to read a lot but my other hobbies have crowded that out. I am trying to learn German and ASL (American Sign Language), but not getting too far with either of those. I am thinking about learning history, but really don't know where to start (US history as well as world).
I don't watch TV or movies, so I won't be able to chat about those. I do watch a lot of YouTube and TikTok and would love to share videos or YouTube channels. I also don't talk politics or watch the news.
Anyway, DM me if you are interested.

2024.05.21 21:57 123android Do you get better by doing more crossword puzzles or just knowing more things?

I started doing the NYT Daily crosswords and I'm already finding Tuesday's quite challenging.
I'm wondering how exactly you get better at crosswords. Like I obviously understand how to do them and it doesn't seem like a skill that gets better with repetition. You just have to know more things. I realize that part of it is using the clues from words intersecting with others that you might not know to get more clues but at a certain point if I just don't know what a male cat is and the clue "noggins" means absolutely nothing to me I guess I'm just screwed and can't solve the puzzle?
I'm seeing all these posts from people who have 600 day streaks and such and I'm astounded. Like how in the hell do you get that far? How much do you simply know to solve the puzzle successfully for such a long period?

2024.05.21 20:48 Its_me_k_p I just noticed about Migration episode…

When Bailey is defiantly (lol) doing Ben’s crossword puzzle, one (maybe the first?) of the clues was peruvian mountain range, answer being Andes. Episode ends with the doctors plane crashing in the mountains. Made me think of the famous rugby team from Uruguay whose plane crashed in the Andes. This has probably been pointed out before but I found that to be a really clever bit of writing (foreshadowing ?) upon rewatching.

2024.05.21 20:39 Mawksie Pulling and Team Building for beginners

Hi everyone!
Likely the most common type of post in this sub is asking for guidance about what current/upcoming characters would most benefit their account to pull. I've dipped into a few of these threads to offer what insight I have, but I feel like there are some basic principles that are easy to see once you've played for a while that are less obvious when you first start, and talking about those might help more people than handing out fish individually.
Disclaimer: I'm not a hardcore player. I don't whale (monthly passes and NH only). I couldn't recognize a damage simulation calculation if it hit my mother. My main qualification to talk about this is being a person who has played every day since release, and since about three months after that, hasn't gotten less than max stars in every MoC/PF. I'm what I assume most would call a "successful casual" player. So if that's your current goal, I'm hoping I can help.
Second Disclaimer: YOU ARE HERE TO HAVE FUN, IF SOMEONE LOOKS COOL TO YOU, PULL FOR THEM. Everything below is for getting your account on it's feet as fast as possible, but ultimately the only factor in HSR is time. No matter who you pull, your account will have everything it needs eventually, and you WILL get all those stars. If you're in no rush, skip my post since it will only be as valuable as who-to-pull advice as /okbuddytrailblazer. Remember: If you aint mirin' your fun is expirin'

~-~Okay, but who should I pull??~-~

You're first priority should always be a powerful sustain unit.
Why?
Because with a reasonable investment, the 4* damage units on your team will do just fine (for now). Pulling a damage unit is tempting in the beginning because big numbers and flashy animations are cool (and listen, I know thats why we're all here), but you don't get to see those big numbers and animations if your damage dealer is dead. The biggest jump in the power and confy-ness of my account was upgrading Bailu to Fu-Xuan. Suddenly my team was surviing long enough to finish fights that seemed like close-calls at best a day prior. My damage was still middling, but at least I was surviving long enough to deal it.
"Okay, but what makes a sustain unit good? Aren't all limited sustains better than 4*/Bailu?"
While most/all limited sustains will broadly be better than 4*/Bailu, they are not all going to be equally valuable to an in-progress account. As of right now, pretty much all of the released sustain units are top tier and worth getting for new accounts, but as more are released, you're going to see units fit more into niches that are much more valuable to more established accounts that can take advantage of those niches, and much less valuable to new accounts that mostly just need to cover the basics.
"The basics" just refers to two things, mainly:
  1. Can your sustain unit heal/block enough damage to keep your units alive?
  2. Can your sustain cleanse/prevent CC effects that would hamper your team's ability to do their job?
So a quick breakdown of the current sustains and how they cover those basics:
Luocha
  1. Potent single target heals with free casts, and potent off-turn healing means any damage that doesnt outright one-shot your team is healed back to full quickly and easily
  2. His ability when triggered manually or through his passive, cleanses, allowing for quick reactions to CC
FuXuan
  1. Extreme damage mitigation and small heals allow teams to easily survive all but the most punishing content
  2. Once-per-cast ability blocks single or team-wide CC
Huohuo
  1. Insane ability healing output, plus consistent off-turn healing keeps teams alive, albeit at an SP cost
  2. Her ability's target, as well as all recipients of her off-turn healing are cleansed, making pretty much all negative effects complete non-issues.
Aventurine
  1. High value shields that self refreshes if they survive long enough give comfy margins for even big incoming damage
  2. Self-CC immunity plus reasonable CC resist on his shield mean your only real enemy is bad luck
Any of these units will make your main team feel near-invincible.
But what about upcoming sustains? Will they be just as good?
Maybe! We can look at the kits of some 4* sustains to see what more niche sustain kits may look like in the future:
Gallagher:
  1. Fair healing output, but requires the injured party to attack or else costs 1SP to heal directly.
  2. Cleanse on ability, but locked behind E2. Only on-turn, costs SP.
  3. Break effect debuff on ult/EBA means synergy with teams that benefits from debuffs/BE.
Gallagher's sustain capabilities aren't much compared to the limited units'. But he has a place in teams that will benefit from his strong debuff, as they may not need as much healing/cleansing due to knocking-the-bajesus out of the enemy before they can attack. Valuable to someone with Acheron? Absolutely! Is he going to keep your level 40 QingQue alive long enough to kill the Deer? Probably not.

~-Okay, I have a plan to get a sustain, can I blow something up now?-~

Yes! But, just like sustains, there are going to be things to look out for to get the most out of your first limited damage-dealer.
1. Is your DPS going to struggle if the enemy is not weak to their element?
2. Is your DPS going to struggle because they lack an essential partner unit you don't own?
3. What situation is your DPS built to handle?
So are other DPS units not worth getting?
Every limited DPS unit in the game has a place and team that makes them amazing. Once your account is getting its full value out of the biweekly challenges, then the best value comes from building synergies.

~-Okay I have my damage dealer, and they're staying alive. Why are my numbers so much lower than the ones I see in screenshots and videos?-~

When you first start HSR, it seems like the real heroes are the damage dealers "WoAw That Acheron just hit an Ult for 850k!"
But did they? or was it the Silver Wolf and Pela standing behind her?
The real excitement now, is in the buffers/debuffers
Limited Harmony (and utility Nihility) units are the last piece to the puzzle. Not only will they give you screenshot-worthy damage numbers, but they have much more broad appeal to teams than other roles.
While certain teams want certain stats more than others, ultimately, stats are stats, and whether that means you're going faster, hitting harder, or getting more energy for ultimates, your DPS units will almost always benefit from a limited support unit.
There aren't that many of them, so lets talk about all of them and what makes them good.
1. Bronya
2. RuanMei
3. SParkle
4. Robin
5. Silver Wolf
6. Harmony Trailblazer

~-I have a character for all three roles! Now what?-~

At this point, you should be able to capable handle at least one side of MoC/PF, and you'll want to shift focus to your second team, but this is much more open ended, so let just talk about some considerations that will make choosing new characters easier. Remember that ultimately your goal is to have teams that can reliably clear the biweekly challenges and SU modules.
1. Do you already have units that have synergy with the new units?
2. Do you have coverage for the weaknesses of your current teams?
3. Is a new unit going to require a ton of investment to come online?

~-TLDR;-~

2024.05.21 18:43 Aardvark_Long Can't create a new User Profile with a certain username even though that name doesn't exist anywhere on my laptop

Firstly, here are the details of my system:
Legion 7 w/ Ryzen 7 6800H (guessing that's not necessary)
22631.3593 OS Build, 23H2 Version as up to date as I can get currently.
I'm trying to install a certain software that requires me to create a new user profile in Windows 11 with admin privileges and a matching username to my school username, but for some reason whenever I go to Settings>Accounts>Other Users>Add Account, then click the appropriate things to create an account without using an email, it always just says "Please type a different user name." Other names work though. For example, if I wanted to make the account with the name Example123, I could create an account that's named Example124 or Example123s, which is very puzzling to me.
I don't have any other accessible or visible (to my knowledge) profiles or accounts on my laptop. Nothing in settings in "Other Users" or even under "Email & Accounts". I had a folder under users in File Explorer with the same name that I don't remember creating, but it was essentially empty (one strange file in it), and so I was able to delete it today (it didn't let me yesterday though, for some reason).
After deleting the folder and restarting, I tried to create the new profile and it still didn't work. I'm completely at a loss. I've attempted to use all of the ideas in this post, but the first four options aren't even available for me to select (either it says that "This snapin may not be used with this edition of Windows 10 (what?)......" or nothing comes up in search when its supposed to), and the last one prevented me from being able to log into my computer so I had to restore to a previous windows update using my recovery key (I had to do that last night as well after my dad tweaked some things in Regedit. Not sure what he changed but it didn't work).
Does anyone know if there's some command I can use somehow wipe that username off of my laptop (I'm guessing that's what the issue is), or does anyone have an actual solution? Thank you so much for your help

2024.05.21 17:39 timan1st Solve chess puzzles

Chess puzzles are incredibly enjoyable. Personally, I can’t get enough of them. There's nothing quite like the satisfaction of solving a challenging chess puzzle that truly tests your intellect.
Solving chess puzzles can significantly improve your chess skills, but, like any activity, there are certain guidelines to follow. If approached carelessly, chess puzzles can actually hinder your ability to play well.
So, while chess puzzles are exciting, there are important considerations to keep in mind. Not just casual thoughts, but serious points to ponder whenever you tackle a chess puzzle.
Chess puzzles can either be a valuable learning experience or a mindless exercise, depending on how you approach them. Simply solving them doesn’t teach you much; it’s the method you use to solve them that counts.
I believe many people use a "trial and error" approach to solving chess puzzles. They analyze the position, mentally move pieces around, test a promising path, and if it fails, try another. It’s seen as a fun activity, and if they wanted a serious game, they’d play one. That’s how I used to view chess puzzles too.
However, chess puzzles are serious training tools, and this article aims to highlight their importance. They are effective training exercises and have a significant impact on your behavior during actual games.
Here are some key points to remember when working on chess puzzles:
  1. A major limitation of chess puzzles is knowing that a solution exists on the board.
This isn’t necessarily bad, but if you’re not careful, you might take shortcuts. Avoid jumping in and moving pieces around in your mind until they fit. This bad habit can hurt your performance in real games. If you do this now, you might be tempted to do it later.
The solution? Treat the puzzle like an actual chess game.
Make the next move as if it’s your move. Don’t just accept the scenario as given. Try to understand how you got there and why you should make your next move from a strategic perspective.
Like a puzzle cube or a daily crossword, learn to see the solution instead of stumbling upon it, and you’ll gain much more from solving chess puzzles.
  1. Chess puzzles are predetermined, meaning the solution is the only thing you need to figure out.
This can encourage you to stop thinking independently, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Play by the rules, which should already be part of your chess habit.
Don’t cut corners just because the game is in an advanced stage.
Scan for knight moves, check for tactical opportunities, familiarize yourself with the board position, including the pawn structure. Take an introspective approach to puzzle solving.
  1. Remember that every move on the chessboard (whether in a puzzle or not) requires a fresh perspective.
Always start by thoroughly scanning the puzzle for every possible check and capture from both sides. Avoid the temptation to jump straight to the solution by moving key pieces in your mind. This might save time, but it also ingrains a bad habit that can be hard to break.
  1. Play the puzzle out against a computer or a person. This adds a consequence for wrong decisions and makes the puzzle feel like a formal game rather than just an image in a book.
These tips can help you get more out of chess puzzles. Approach each puzzle as if you don’t know a predetermined solution exists.
Anyone can eventually stumble upon a solution, but can they replicate the process consistently? Likely not.
Take your puzzle-solving skills to the next level by applying the rules of chess. Enjoy the process and learn something along the way.
Good luck!

2024.05.21 17:31 coghlanpf Want to create multiple authenticators as backup

I've been learning more about how authenticators work for 2FA and noticed:
I'm using Google Authenticator for 2FA.
Since free accounts only support one authenticator instance, it makes sense that the last one added stomps on the one that existed previously. I'm puzzled though, why paid accounts support multiple authenticator instances, but it seems that only the most recently created instance will work. I thought each new instance represented another backup.
Am I missing something, or does each new authenticator instance stomp on the current/active one, while leaving previously-created authenticators in the list? I was happily creating multiple authenticator instances, thinking that I could use any of the codes displayed in my Google Authenticator, but was shocked to discover that only the last one created (on another family member's phone as a backup) actually worked.
I now get that I should save the seed key and use that to "innoculate" backup authenticators, rather than create more authenticators, but why doesn't Azure issue a warning and delete the existing instance when a new authenticator is created?

2024.05.21 16:40 SylvieCathrall Dear r/fantasy - I’m Sylvie Cathrall, author of "A Letter to the Luminous Deep"! AMA!

Hi there! As the title suggests, I’m Sylvie. My epistolary fantasy novel, A Letter to the Luminous Deep, was released in April by Orbit Books US and UK. It’s my debut and the first book in the duology we’re calling The Sunken Archive. (The second book will emerge from the depths, so to speak, in spring 2025.) I started this manuscript in 2018, sold it in 2022, and became a published author about a month ago. I’ve always loved reading epistolary novels, but creating one was an adventure like no other!
Made up of letters (naturally!), diary entries, and other assorted documents, A Letter to the Luminous Deep explores an unexpected courtship, a shocking disappearance, and the experiences of two unlikely archivists trying to put everything together. You might enjoy it if you like strange sea creatures, sibling stories, and queer-normative fantasy with a nineteenth-century-ish flavor.
I fear I’m much less interesting than my book, but in case you’re curious:
The best way to connect with me online is through my monthly newsletter, and I occasionally post updates on Instagram.
Anyway, I’ll do my best to answer your questions about my book, writing in general, and so forth. I currently spend my days catering to the whims of a capricious infant, so I’ll respond when naptime allows. I plan to come back for a brief visit around 2 PM Eastern Time (EDT) and then return in the evening from 6-8 PM EDT for more.
I look forward to our correspondence! :)
Edit #1 (3:09 PM EDT) - Thanks for all your wonderful questions so far! I've made it through a few and will spend the next few hours carefully considering the ones I didn't get to yet. It's time for me to log off temporarily, but I'll see you again soon at 6 PM my time!
Edit #2 (6:03 PM EDT ) - All right, I'm back! Here we go!
