2024.05.21 01:52 NikolaJokic2023 Before-Their-Time Team
There's been a lot of great players in NBA history. Many of them were shaped almost entirely by their era, and some seemed as if they were pulled from the wrong one. The second group is the one I'm focusing on today as I make a starting five of these "before-their-time" players who would probably be better suited for today's game.
PG: Steve Nash
There are a few different ways to go from point guard, but Steve Nash may be the most obvious choice. Steve Nash was one of the greatest shooters of his generation, shooting at a 43% mark for his career. Unfortunately, he only averaged 3 attempts for his career in large part because of his era and also because Nash was never a score first guy. But his blend of shooting, playmaking, floor spacing, and great handle would make him incredible in the modern pace-and-space era. And while he was never a score-first guy, he was a very capable scorer and that limited scoring ability would be maximized in this offensive heavy era. In his peak years ('05-'08), he averaged 17.5 points and 11.2 assists on 51/45/90 splits and I can only imagine what those numbers would look like today.
SG: Reggie Miller
In all honesty, you could throw nearly any all-time SG in this spot and call it a day, but I decided on Reggie Miller. I thought about Ray Allen and Vince Carter here, but I thought that Reggie would be the biggest riser (not necessarily the best player) if he played today. Ray Allen and Vince Carter would likely be better than Reggie, but Reggie's game would (in my opinion) be the most improved of the three. Reggie Miller was a shooter in an era that didn't value outside shooting to the same degree. He was an off-ball player in an era that much preferred on-ball scorers whether from the perimeter or the post. Reggie Miller was at his best running in circles and winding through screens like a proto-Steph. For his peak years (which I've dubiously placed as between '90-'97), he averaged 21 points on 49/40/88 splits and he took about 5 threes a game over this stretch. If he played in an era that would have him put up more threes, besides just scoring more, it would have likely boosted one of the biggest assets he had during his prime: scoring gravity. Thinking Basketball makes a great video on this, but Reggie in his prime created openings in the defense simply by moving and drawing defenders in his wake that were scared he'd get open for a shot. With even more space, his gravity would become even deadlier by providing his teammates with even more room.
SF: Scottie Pippen
Now, Scottie Pippen is an interesting player here because he's not an elite shooter like the earlier two players. In fact, his best skill may arguably be defense and putting him into an era that allows him to do less on that end may arguably make him worse. To even further add onto that, Scottie Pippen may not even be listed at SF if he plays today, with many teams likely opting to put him in as a PF if they lack two floor-spacing front court players. But I legitimately think Scottie Pippen would be a better player if he played today. Yes, if Pippen played now, he'd be limited by modern rules on the defensive end, but he would still be one of the best (if not the very best) on-ball defensive wings in the NBA right now. The real interesting thing is on offense. Scottie's greatest strengths on offense were finishing and passing. He shot 63% around the basket, which may not sound all that impressive at first glance, but there's more to it then that. Those numbers came only at the end of his career when that data first became tracked, they came in a much more physical era, they came in an era with far less offensive spacing, and most of those attempts came before the defensive three-second violation was added to the NBA. If he got to play in the modern game with all of the modern rules and with modern spacing, Scottie Pippen's driving game would be much more deadly than it was in his era. And with his exceptional vision and passing ability, he'd collapse the defense with his drives and he would now have shooters around him that he could more reliably kick out to. And since I've done it for everyone else, Scottie averaged 20 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals on 48/34/70 splits in his prime (which I've listed as '92-'97, and note that his 3pt% was somewhat inflated since for half of those seasons, the NBA moved the 3pt line in).
PF: Dirk Nowitzki
I don't think this one needs much explanation. Dirk Nowitzki is the greatest shooting big ever. He was just as capable as a mid-post scorer. He was comfortable moving with the ball in his hands for his size. He's an offensive legend in almost all respects. You give him more spacing that allows him to play more 1-on-1 post game, you give him more shots from 3, and you give his shooting gravity even more of a pull? Yeah, Dirk would be amazing today. Dirk in his prime years (which I'm listing as '03-'11), averaged 25 points and 9 rebounds on 48/38/89 splits, and he took about three 3s a game over this stretch.
C: Kevin Garnett
Is it cheating to put KG here even though the majority of his career and his peak was spent playing PF? Probably, but Garnett deserves to be on this list regardless of position (and KG would almost undoubtedly be played at C in today's league; the same is probably true for Dirk but that depends on the personnel on the team). Starting first with what was possibly KG's biggest strength, KG is an all-time defender and one of the most versatile ones in league history. That versatility would be much more impactful in the modern era and far more appreciated. KG also was a phenomenal passer, and he would have the opportunity to showcase that more in a less positional era that would let him dictate an offense much more. Interesting enough, Kevin Garnett would have likely developed a 3pt shot had he played today. We can assume this from just the level of shooter he was from the deep mid-range. For his career, he shot around 45% from the space between 16ft and the 3pt line. Nearly a third of all his career FG attempts came from that distance as well. In an era where 3pt shooting is prioritized, Garnett likely develops the shot fairly early into his career and would shoot more than the 0.4 per game that he did. Kevin Garnett at his peak (which I am roughly measuring from '00-'07) averaged 23 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, a little over a steal, and almost 2 blocks per game.
PG: Steve Nash
SG: Reggie Miller
SF: Scottie Pippen
PF: Dirk Nowitzki
C: Kevin Garnett
And while the point wasn't to make a functional, cohesive lineup, I honestly think those 5 would work fairly well with one another.

- Look, I know it's a better "story" that Willis Reed won the 1970 Finals MVP, being the league MVP that season and "coming back" from injury to play Game 7 of the Finals. Except that Reed played 27 minutes of Game 7 and scored four points, three rebounds and an assist, whereas Frazier played 44 minutes and put up 36/7/19. The series averages were a bit more debatable, with Reed going for 23.0/10.5/2.8 while Frazier had 17.6/7.7/10.4. But Frazier played in all seven games to Reed's six. It just really feels like that should've been his Finals MVP that year.
- The 1973 Finals are much more of a toss-up. Five guys (Bill Bradley, Frazier, Reed, Earl Monroe, and Dave DeBusschere) all averaged between 15.6 and 18.6 for the series. You could probably talk me into any one of those five, but I'd probably go Reed that year.
- Regardless, and with all due respect to Patrick Ewing, Frazier is probably the greatest Knick in franchise history.

- Cowens has the rare and probably never-to-be-matched distinction of being the only MVP winner in NBA history to never make the All-NBA First Team. Bill Russell was the MVP while on the Second Team three times (1958, 1960, 1961), but he made the First Team in other seasons. Cowens was the MVP on the Second Team in 1973, but never did crack the First Team in his career.
- I know this is probably a bit higher than most people probably rank Cowens, but his peak from 1973-1976 is pretty nuts: one MVP and three more top-five finishes, plus being the best player on one title team (1976) and the second best on another (1974) pulls his score up quite a bit.

- What do we say about Dwight Howard? Amazing defensive presence. Best center of his generation. Not the most offensively gifted player. Not the greatest basketball IQ. Kind of a weirdo? We could go all kinds of different ways here. One thing is definitely certain though: from 2007-2011 (and part of 2012 until he decided he wanted out of Orlando), Howard was one of the 3-5 best players in the game. If he was on your team, you, at the very least, had one of the best defenses in basketball. The Magic's defensive rating those years was 6th, 6th, 1st, 3rd, and 3rd. Could you build an offense around him? No. Did he realize this? Unfortunately, no. That was his ultimate downfall is he wanted to be the offensive star just by virtue of being the defensive star, but didn't have the skill set for it. But surround him with shooters, almost against his will, and that's a very dangerous team. If he was anchoring a 3-and-D team in today's game, they would be legitimately scary.
- Even after saying all of that, I think Howard's nomad years hurt his legacy more than anything, and I'm not entirely sure why. If it was the prevailing wisdom that nobody wanted him, or that he couldn't make it work anywhere, or what, but his post 2012 career adds virtually nothing to his score. Even the 2020 title only gives him 12 points, which isn't much in the grand scheme of things. I don't know. Sometimes I feel like we should give him more credit for wanting to keep playing so badly (even to the point of playing in Taiwan and, currently, Puerto Rico), but it's just this odd misfit characterization that he can't shake.
- And even after saying all of that, his exclusion from the 75th Anniversary Team invalidates that entire project for me. To the point that I made my own NBA75 list just for my own peace of mind. (And a good time to remind everyone that was not the NBA's actual 75th anniversary the year they did that., but we're entrenched now and it'll probably never be corrected.)

- Maybe a bit too high for Gervin, but not much. He was amazing. He's getting the upper-echelon ABA boost that I talked about with Artis Gilmore, though not nearly to as strong of a degree. But how can you not love a player who's profile boils down to "he was nicknamed 'The Iceman' and invented the finger roll"?
- Gervin also had a bit of a winding career to the NBA. He went to Eastern Michigan University, which was a Division II school at the time. In 1972 as a sophomore, Gervin led the team to the Final Four of the Division II tourney, where he then punched an opposing player and got himself suspended for a full season.
- Rather than stay at EMU, Gervin went to the Pontiac Chaparrals of the Continental Basketball Association. (This was a different Continental Basketball Association than the one Isiah Thomas drove into the ground in the late 1990s/early 2000s, which originally grew out of the Eastern Basketball Association. This CBA was founded in the Great Lakes area in the 1970s as a way to keep local semi-professional football players in shape in the offseason.)
- From there, Gervin was scouted by a few ABA teams, but signed with the Virginia Squires prior to the 1973 season. The next season, the Squires started to go under financially, and traded Gervin to the San Antonio Spurs for something like $250,000.
- At this point, prior to the 1975 season, Gervin was eligible for the NBA draft, and was drafted by the Suns, but he decided to stay with the Spurs. (At this point in time, players were not allowed to go to the NBA prior to completing four years of college. There were some "hardship exceptions," but they were incredibly byzantine and hard to get approved. Gervin would've been a senior in 1974, so, since his college eligibility was now up, despite having played professionally for multiple years, his name went into the 1974 draft.)
- Then, since he was already on the Spurs when the leagues merged, he just stayed there. (Sorry, Phoenix.) As a side note, the "Final Four" of the final ABA season in 1976 was nuts. They got rid of conferences, for one thing, so you had the Gervin-led Spurs against the Julius Erving-led Nets in one semifinal, and the David Thompson/Dan Issel-led Nuggets against the Artis Gilmore-led Kentucky Colonels in the other. Eventually, Erving outdueled Thompson as the Nets beat the Nuggets in six games. It's just weird when you compare it to the NBA for the same year. The East was a fairly loaded Celtics team (Cowens, John Havlicek, Jo Jo White, etc) against a Cavaliers team with a 34-year-old Nate Thurmond as probably the only player an average basketball fan would recognize. And in the West, the Paul Westphal-led Suns stunned the Rick Barry-led Warriors. (Boston over Phoenix in six in those Finals.) As much as the NBA would like to have you believe they bailed out those ABA teams by absorbing them, the league desperately needed the influx of talented players.
- Anyway, Gervin played ten years in the NBA altogether (and still got to 20,000 points without even including his ABA numbers), including a final season in Chicago with a young Michael Jordan in 1986.
- Gervin then played a year in Italy, a year back in the states with the Quad City Thunder of the Continental Basketball Association (this time it is the one Isiah Thomas bankrupted), and then a year in Spain before retiring at 38.

- Leonard being this high was somewhat surprising to me, because you kind of just think "all that for one (admittedly incredible) championship run? So let's break this down a little bit.
- In my mind, there's pre-superstar Spurs Kawhi, superstar Raptors Kawhi, and always-injured Clippers Kawhi. But that's not entirely accurate. His first Finals MVP was definitely in his pre-superstar days, but after that, San Antonio Kawhi was a monster. He finished top three in MVP voting twice and was a two-time Defensive Player of the Year. In 2016, he became the seventh player to win Defensive Player of the Year while also averaging at least 20 points per game. Dwight Howard (twice), Michael Jordan, Sidney Moncrief (twice), Alonzo Mourning (twice), Hakeem Olajuwon (twice), and David Robinson were the players who had done it before. (And Giannis Antetokounmpo has done it since, for eight players altogether.) He was also the best player on a 67-win team. (2016 was nuts. There have only been four teams to win 67+ games and not win the title, and two of them happened in 2016. The 1973 Celtics won 68 games and lost in the Conference Finals, and the 2007 Mavericks won 67 games and lost in the first round, to go along with the 2016 Spurs and Warriors.)
- Then we had Toronto Kawhi, where the regular season didn't really matter much, but who had 4.9 win shares in the playoffs, which is the seventh-most in a single playoff run, behind Tim Duncan in 2003 (5.9), LeBron James in 2012 (5.8), Dirk Nowitzki in 2006 (5.4), LeBron in 2013 (5.2), LeBron in 2018 (5.2), and Nikola Jokic in 2023 (5.0).
- Then we have Clippers Kawhi, who is still undeniably good, but hasn't reached those same levels as 2016-2019. 2020 was close - he finished fifth in MVP voting that year, but the Clippers deciding the bubble was a sham (I guess?) kind of killed anything they had there and he's been hurt since. The Clippers did make the Conference Finals in 2021, but Kawhi got hurt in the playoffs, so he didn't actually play in the Conference Finals that year (but he does get credit for his playoff performance up to his injury that year, however.) All in all, his Clippers tenure doesn't really add a whole lot to his legacy.

- Nash is my highest-rated player to never play in the Finals, which is kind of crazy to think about just how many great players have at least played in the Finals, if not won a championship.
- A lot of people say Kyle Lowry is the prime example of a "late bloomer" in the NBA, but I really think Nash is the prototype. Yes, he made a couple All-Star teams and All-NBA Third Teams in Dallas, but going from that to the MVP in Phoenix felt like it came out of nowhere. I mean, imagine if, say, Julius Randle switched teams next year and won the MVP. That's what Nash's MVP season felt like. And then he arguably kept getting better.

- Paul's late career resurgence was something I did not see coming. I thought his career was basically done by the end of his Clippers tenure, and that anyone taking on his huge contract was just desperately hoping to recapture some faded magic of a big name. But nope! He did well in Houston, he was an All-Star in Oklahoma City, he helped get Phoenix to the Finals. It really was quite the master class in "floor general"-ism.

- There is an argument to be made that Wade is the third-best shooting guard of all time. This argument largely hinges on whether or not you consider Jerry West and/or James Harden to be shooting guards. I would say West was a point guard who sometimes played shooting guard, and Harden was a shooting guard who sometimes played point guard. But regardless, if you want to count both of those guys as "combo guards" or whatever, then Wade has to be third on the "pure shooting guard" ranking list.

- Dolph Schayes was born in 1928. That's important to the story because Dolph Schayes' full name is "Adolph." It's pretty easy to imagine a young Adolph Schayes in the 1940s grabbing a newspaper and saying "well, son of a bitch..." Now, there aren't a lot of famous "Dolph's" out there, but when I looked up the name to try to find more famous examples, there are a few, mostly athletes, and then Dolph Lundgren. All have the full name "Adolph," and all except Lundgren were born before World War II. And you really have to admire the balls of Dolph Lundgren's parents, who, in 1957, decided to give their baby the name of the most notorious mass murderer in history, and thought, "we're taking the name back!" And I mean, it's a pretty cool name if you've got Old English or German roots - it's a portmanteau of "noble" and "wolf," so if you wanted to name your son something badass, "Adolph" was a good bet. Just one more thing Hitler ruined for everyone.

- 1.4 Conference Finals Win Shares (3 Conf. Finals losses - 1953 BOS, 1954 BOS, 1955 BOS)
- Peak - 427.6
- Other achievements
- NCAA champion (1947)
- 2x All-Star Game MVP (1954, 1957)
- 5,000 Assist Club (6,955; 21st all-time)
- 14 retired by the Boston Celtics
- College Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee (2006)
- Cousy had one of the coolest nicknames ever, which was "The Houdini of the Hardwood," and if you ever go find some highlights of some of his moves, and keep in mind the rules for palming and carrying the ball while he played were extremely strict, I think you'd be legitimately amazed at some of the stuff he was doing in the 1950s.
- I should note that Cousy's "peak" years here (1957-1961) probably don't coincide with his actual peak as a player. It's just that those seasons are the years the MVP started getting voted on, so Cousy gets far more points in those seasons than he does in his earlier seasons. (Also note Cousy's score would probably be a little higher had MVP voting been around for his entire career.)

2024.05.13 04:36 AncientKey1976 Beneath the Veneer: The Dark Side of Celebrity Porcelain Veneers Before and After Pictures
| Veneers: Celebrities' Secret Weapon or Dental Disaster In the world of Hollywood glitz and glamour, where every smile seems flawless and every face seems sculpted by angels, there's a dirty little secret hiding behind those pearly whites – porcelain veneers. From A-listers to reality TV stars, the allure of the perfect smile has led many down the path of cosmetic dentistry. But what's the real story behind those celebrity porcelain veneers before and after pictures? And is the joke really on them? This notable figure became part of the Hollywood porcelain veneer trend. Here are before-and-after pictures showcasing his celebrity porcelain veneers. On the left, you see his natural smile, exuding character, confidence, and youthful charm, with plenty of space in his mouth. On the right, after opting for porcelain veneers, his smile appears changed and artificial, significantly altering his facial appearance. This transition gives him a somewhat exaggerated look, with teeth that seem overly large and unnaturally white. It's disheartening because the dentist should have discouraged porcelain veneers, especially since this individual already had a flawless smile and teeth. A Silver Screen Solution: The Origins of Porcelain Veneer Porcelain veneers were originally created in the 1920s as a temporary solution for actresses in Hollywood, designed to enhance their smiles for the duration of film shoots. Crafted by Dr. Charles Pincus, these ultra-thin porcelain shells provided a quick fix for dental imperfections, ensuring that stars appeared flawless on-screen. However, despite their initial intent as a short-term cosmetic enhancement, porcelain veneers gained popularity among celebrities and eventually became a permanent fixture in cosmetic dentistry, transcending their original purpose and becoming accessible to a wider audience. The picture on the left features a famous actor admired for his genuine smile, which harmoniously suits his face and radiates charisma and personality. However, in the image on the right, following his decision to get porcelain veneers, his appearance seems altered, with his teeth appearing fake and the quality of the workmanship lacking. It's likely that he was bothered by a gap in his teeth, a minor issue that could have been easily fixed with non-invasive composite resin. Unfortunately, he may have been persuaded that more porcelain equals better results. Fortunately, given his age, he won't require replacements. Lights, Camera, Veneers: Why Celebrities Choose Perfection So why do celebrities get veneers? The answer is simple – to maintain their image. In an industry where appearances are everything, having a flawless smile can make or break a career. Whether it's for a red carpet event or a close-up on the big screen, celebrities are under constant pressure to look their best. And porcelain veneers offer a quick and easy solution to achieving that picture-perfect fake straight smile. In the picture, there's a star athlete displayed with their natural teeth on the left side and 6-8 porcelain veneers on the right. His natural teeth had a lot of character and a charming smile with a small gap. It's probable that he wasn't fond of the gap, which could have been easily corrected with a non-invasive composite resin. However, the allure of Hollywood convinced him that he needed all porcelain veneers, resulting in irreversible changes to his teeth. Eventually, these veneers will need to be replaced 2-3 times, which is regrettable. This reflects poorly on the dentist's judgment. But just how many celebrities have veneers? The truth is, more than you might think. From celebrities like Nicholas Cage, Morgan Freeman, Hiliary Duff, and 50 Cent to star athletes such as Dirk Nowitzki, Matthew Stafford, Rob Gronkowski, and Ben Simmons, it appears that veneers have become a popular trend embraced by individuals across Tinseltown. Just google "What celebrities have had veneers". And with the rise of social media, where every selfie is scrutinized and every flaw is magnified, the demand for porcelain veneers has never been higher. As evident from the left, this star retired athlete received 8 porcelain veneers, despite having a beautiful natural smile. Hollywood's insistence on a flawless smile often overlooks reality However, while porcelain veneers may promise a perfect smile, the reality is often far from it. In fact, some of the worst celebrity veneers before and after pictures serve as a cautionary tale of what can go wrong when cosmetic dentistry goes too far. From oversized teeth to unnaturally white smiles, these celebrity disasters are a stark reminder that more isn't always better. This young actress at the time desired an improvement in her smile. Unfortunately, the work carried out by her dentist was of very low quality, and they should feel embarrassed about it. The issue could have been easily resolved with composite bonding. This situation serves as a reminder that porcelain veneers may not be the ideal choice in every situation. Subsequently, the actress had to undergo a redo, which appears to be a common occurrence among celebrities. Beneath the Surface: The Hidden Risks of Porcelain Veneers But perhaps the biggest downside of why not to get porcelain veneers isn't what you see on the surface, but what lies beneath. The process of getting veneers often involves shaving down healthy tooth enamel to make room for the porcelain shells. And once that enamel is gone, it's gone for good. This means that while veneers may give you a perfect smile in the short term, they can wreak havoc on your oral health in the long run. To learn more about the porcelain veneer process prep you can check out our article "Your Ultimate Q&A Guide to the Top 10 Questions About Porcelain Veneers" Here's an instance of two star athletes who have porcelain veneers before and after photos, despite the potential for an unnatural appearance that may leave them dissatisfied. The allure of the \"Hollywood smile\" may have influenced their decision, yet the outcome may not align with their expectations or desires. Preserving Natural Beauty: The True Solution So what's the solution? In a world obsessed with perfection, it's easy to lose sight of what's really important – preserving the health and integrity of your natural teeth. Instead of hopping on the latest celebrity trend, let's focus on considering smile-enhancing treatments that conserve our natural tooth structure. More and more cosmetic dentists are focusing on non-invasive procedures, and their efforts deserve recognition. You can easily find them on social media platforms and Google, advocating for 100% non-invasive composite resin veneers. Be mindful of options like no-prep, near-prep, or minimally-prep porcelain veneers, as they are unlikely to be reversible. Take the initiative to thoroughly research and inquire about these alternatives. This is a real case scenario of 100% no prep direct composite veneers by Dr. Jordan Davis. Source: https://www.aretesmiledesign.comExamples like these, where cosmetic dentists advocate for non-invasive procedures, should be acknowledged for their departure from the norm and refusal to opt for porcelain veneers, which can harm teeth. Final Thoughts on Celebrity Porcelain Veneers Before and After Pictures Is the Joke on Them? In conclusion, even though celebrity porcelain veneers may seem like the ultimate status symbol, what is the answer to the question is the joke on them? It's not very likely, but there's definitely some truth to it. On the left, we see a star athlete exuding character with his natural smile and teeth. There's a warmth in his eyes that complements his genuine grin. However, on the right, after the application of porcelain veneers, his smile takes on a bulky, oversized appearance, altering his facial structure and causing a lack of space. Additionally, the veneers clip his lower lip, detracting from the natural look. It's disheartening that such a procedure was undertaken, as the patient will require 2-3 more replacements in their lifetime, resulting in damage to their teeth. Celebrities face immense pressure from marketing companies and social media to maintain an impeccable appearance. They often rely on the guidance of their managers, friends, and family, which leaves them uncertain about their decisions. While they do possess the ability to think for themselves, they are still influenced by immense external pressures, thus sharing a portion of the responsibility. Should we also hold dentists accountable? https://preview.redd.it/8s3svlfcv30d1.png?width=558&format=png&auto=webp&s=5e8a44fdf9b40cbf239c311d59446b98a7654b07 Cosmetic dentists are bound by the oath of "First, do no harm," and their primary concern should be preserving the natural teeth of their patients. However, some fail to adhere to this principle, opting for excessive porcelain application in pursuit of the perfect smile. This overlooks alternatives like 100% noninvasive composite veneers, which may require more time and effort but prioritize tooth preservation. Is social media or marketing to blame? https://preview.redd.it/qw6f1qrlv30d1.png?width=559&format=png&auto=webp&s=62381f6c05cabe8a6191a4edbb62a02a8c3b95c2 Veneer companies and social media platforms often perpetuate unrealistic beauty standards, leading celebrities to believe that porcelain veneers are the ultimate solution for a perfect smile. By promoting unattainable beauty standards and encouraging excessive cosmetic procedures, both veneer companies and social media platforms share responsibility for the detrimental effects on celebrities' smiles. So, what's the takeaway? While there may not be a clear-cut answer, it's important to empathize with these celebrities. Despite their seemingly flawless Hollywood smiles, many face regrettable situations, such as undergoing multiple veneer replacements. Therefore, when contemplating a smile enhancement, always keep in mind the importance of prioritizing the care of your natural teeth above all else. https://preview.redd.it/0f7knrhnv30d1.png?width=941&format=png&auto=webp&s=cc97800a6d68034046711cdd5136cf863bd3bde1 \Disclaimer: Any information that was included is based on its relevance and importance to the topic, not as part of any paid promotion or sponsorship.* PorcelainVeneers #FakePorcelainTeeth #AuthenticSmiles #CosmeticDentistry #NaturalTeeth #DentalEthics #OralHealthMatters #VeneerReality #SmileAuthenticity #FakePorcelainteeth #PorcelainVeneersLookFake #PorcelainVeneersRuinTeeth #beautybeyondveneers #porcelainveneersforteeth #alternativetoporcelainveneers#compositeveneers #composites #aestheticdentist #celebrityporcelainveneersbeforeandafter #CelebrityBeforeAfterVeneers #CelebrityTeethBeforeAfterVeneersPictures #CelebritiesWhoHaveHadVeneers submitted by AncientKey1976 to porcelainveneerstruth [link] [comments] |

Since the media began voting in 1980-81, there’s a handful who’ve won at least three: Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and LeBron James. Overall, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has won six, Bill Russell and Jordan have five, Wilt Chamberlain and James have four, and Moses Malone, Johnson and Bird have three. Jokić shrugs at all of the hoopla, preferring to slink away to his native land during the offseason and pretend none of this matters to him. But there’s no way someone this great has gotten this way by accident, or without being as driven as the men on the very short list of greatest players of all time. He’s not quite yet at the stage of receiving an MVP award and looking miserable doing it, like Dirk Nowitzki was in 2007 when his Dallas Mavericks were eliminated by the Golden State Warriors in the first round in the rare 1-8 upset, but Jokić and the Nuggets are halfway there. The Minnesota Timberwolves have Jokić on the ropes, as they’ve been built to beat the Nuggets and to wear down Jokić, who has had the two worst playoff games of his career — or at the least, since becoming that dude. But make no mistake here, Jokić is still worthy of the award he’s receiving and just as dangerous entering Friday night’s Game 3 as he was at the start of the series. 2024.05.04 19:49 drake_burroughs Is one of these the worst-drawn issue in Legion history? We look at Legion #114 - 116 and Legionnaires #71 - 73
| Just a quick retraction before we start this week's article. I said last week that we were now seeing sales worse than anything the Legion had seen before or would see after. That was somewhat hyperbolic and, in fact, the Legion will see worse sales in the future. Man, every time I look into Legion sales figures I get a little more depressed. If only they could've taken the huge sales boost they got from being a back-up in Action Comics and kept a least half that readership with their own book... Or if maybe DC actually hired someone who could bring readers to a book... Instead, let's go back to the dog days of the PZH Legion. Once more, into the detritus... LSH #114 LSH #115 Can anyone explain why you would keep with the numbering on the cover when these books no longer tie into each other? Does anyone think about these things at all, or is this yet another attempt to improve sales by not having interconnected titles? Which, of course, would make no sense, but what do I know? It's the two-part Bizarro Legion story. To bring everyone up to speed, Brainiac 5.1 brought the Bizarro technology to the 30th Century, started experimenting, and turned the Outpost and the Legionnaires onboard into Bizarro versions of the ship and the heroes. Invisible Kid, Lightning Lad, Ferro, and Karate Kid return from a mission to discover the chaos and try to figure out what's going on. Now for my Bizarro review: - What an amazingly well-written comic. Nothing about this feels derivative at all and me love the creativity.
- What an amazingly well-drawn comic. The pictures are beautiful and artist Scott Kolins makes every character look stunning. His facial expressions, however, are pretty lackluster.
- Me always love when Koko saves the day. There's nothing better than watching a monkey solve problems quicker than Invisible Kid, who's cursed with being a super spy and an incredibly smart scientist.
- Having Live Wire act like a complete jerk in almost every scene was another brilliant choice. Why show any character development, or create a character that readers would care about, when you can just make him lash out at his teammates for absolutely no reason?
- Me also loved that we finally got to see a well-written Kinetix here. After months of her written as if she has taken every downer in the galaxy, and knowing that the writers hate using her, seeing her reduced to such a joke was the perfect way to make her relevant again.
- And is there any better surprise ending than having the Bizarro Legionnaires attack R.J. Brande? This has never been done before and the creative team has never forced Brande into a story for absolutely no reason. So refreshing!
- Speaking of R.J. Brande, Me am so happy they placed him, naked, in a mudbath.
- In fact, me am so happy we're moving to the second issue of this story that me am celebrating getting to read 44 pages of this Watchmen-level comic.
- For those of you who were amazed that Invisible Kid used to be the only character who could speak Durlan, you can be even more impressed that he can speak with Koko. The monkey. Me loved those old Lassie episodes as much as everyone else, so when this happened, me was smiling from ear-to-ear:
Lyle: If I don't figure out a way to reverse the process within 24 hours, they'll be Bizarros forever! Koko: Okok! Okok! Okok! Okok! Lyle: What? Separate the D.N.A. strands? But how do we-- - Me have no words for how brilliant that was. Not as brilliant as Koko, who figures out how to cure them, but brilliant enough. Me love that Bizarro-Koko is smarter than the person who has been established to be the second smartest Legionnaires. Awesome for monkeys!
- Lyle sends a light blast through everyone's Mini-Omnicoms in their belts and suddenly we have the regular Legionnaires beside the Bizarro Legionnaires. So it's a battle against each other. Me love when nothing they write makes any sense and they just keep throwing spaghetti at the wall in their stories.
- Another thing me love in these stories is when the writers just ignore what's going on in the story and magically transport characters from one place to another. After all, when Bizarro Brainy blows up (or does he, because Brainiac 5.1 wonders if they got away), they just leave Mars and ignore that there may be Bizarros running around and head right back to the Outpost with no explanation how or why.
- Even better, me reached the point where me am convinced they're missing some pages. Me love when the story makes so little sense that me wonder if me got a defective copy... nope... it's just this perfectly confusing...
- These two issues were so good, me wishes it would just keep going and going and going so me can enjoy more insanely stupid ideas and scenes... cause that's what me love the best about the Legion.
One Brainiac 5.1 point here - at what point does the constant damage and destruction that he causes outweigh any possible good? I mean, how many labs can he blow up, how many times can he risk the lives of his teammates, before the Legion figures that having Lyle handle the science is better? I guess it would be okay if they actually showed Brainy deliver something really, genuinely useful... LSH #116 I'm gonna stick with the Legion since Legionnaires has a three-part story. Or just to get this over with. We continue getting Thunder, and her long-running subplot of collecting pieces of her planet to bring them together and make it whole again (which makes so little sense that it's insane) shoved down our throats so I guess it's not a surprise that we get more of this nonsense. Before I start this review, I want to personally apologize to any artist I've criticized during my time writing these rereads on reddit. Let's take a look at this first page and talk about just how horrible it is. Keron Grant is the guest artist and wow... this is shockingly bad! Like, I honestly can't think of a book that looks worse. Ever. I honestly can't think of a worse looking comic book. I'm sure there's one out there. But I even want to apologize to Rob Liefeld... https://preview.redd.it/d4i7mgsg6gyc1.png?width=599&format=png&auto=webp&s=d464752fd149c571daffb0da59c45c6ba4853bc7 Let's talk about this first page. First, anatomy: - Thunder's torso cannot be connected to her legs
- Speaking of her legs, I'm fairly certain she's been skipping leg day for a while
- Green guy in the background doesn't actually have legs, just stumps
- Green guy in the foreground has legs, and a bum, that aren't actually connected to his waist... it's like that belt is holding onto two separate things
Second, the roll call: - Thunder looks cross-eyed and drunk
- Brainiac 5.1 now has a receding hairline
- Did someone tell the artist to draw up most of their noses?
- Did the artist not know that Spark and Live Wire are twins and should have at least one similar feature?
- Did Invisible Kid lose his skull?
This is a bad book from start to finish and the art makes it painful to read. Quick recap - some bad guy from Rimbor wants all of the rock Thunder's trying to find. He captures her and Sensor and takes them back to his base. She escapes by saying her magic words "Captain Marvel" and ends up back home in the future. But she knows she has to save Sensor and get back. Sensor, meanwhile, is going to be vivisected by scientists there. Oh, and the Legion come to help but don't do much. And this garbage is continued next issue... time to pray Grant's not back... Legionnaires #71 Legionnaires #72 Legionnaires #73 With all that excitement in space, let's head to Earth (and other places) for more chaos. We start in Japan, where Cosmic Boy isn't really having the best of reunions with his family. He's obsessed with figuring out where his former manager, Alux Cuspin, is. Last issue, he tried to get revenge by hiring Domain, a contract killer, to take out the Legionnaire. We know he's working as a dishwasher in Rio, but Rokk doesn't. On that note, I guess Star Trek has kinda ruined me for my view of the future, but I really have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that people would be employed as dishwashers in the 30th Century. I mean, don't they have robots for that? Or self-cleaning utensils? Or hologram plates that disappear after you've finished eating? I know that I've harped on this before but this book just doesn't feel like it's in the future. Fantastic Four comics have more impressive tech. And the writers don't seem to have spent even one moment thinking about what the future would look like. Just bigger machines and aliens. That's it. We then get introduced to four characters who are going to become important once Dragonmage screws up. We meet different aliens (and a Sun Boy), who have different elemental connections (fire, water, earth, air) and are struggling with their current lives. We also go to Dryad, which, I gotta be honest, just fills me with dread. Blok was always one of my favorites and I really don't want to see either creative team wreck him this close to their cancellation. So, surprise surprise, Dragonmage, in a quest for power (he's taken the Kinetix role), blasts these rocks that contain mystical, elemental energy. Four bolts take off through the cosmos, looking for hosts of their power. They fly off searching for the four beings we met earlier for absolutely no reason. They don't even try to connect them, or show why the elemental magic would want them. It's so completely random that if you think about it for even a moment, everything falls apart... which is a great way to describe most Legion stories these days. We wrap up the Cuspin subplot in four pages as Chameleon arrests him and hands him over the Shvaughn Erin. Then all technology stops working as the magic hits Earth.. and Dryad... and Gil'dan... and four beings are possessed with the power. Poor Dirk Morgna - I swear all he does in the PZH Legion is stand around and then get blasted. Could he actually accomplish anything for himself? We get another Cosmic Boy saves the day moment (they're really going overboard on this) and then Lady Mysa shows up at Legion HQ to explain what Dragonmage did and to ask for help. Everything keeps escalating and Dirk's sun powers are going out of control in Japan - and only Cosmic Boy, Umbra, and Kid Quantum are there to help. To the second part we go and, because we have pages to waste, we spend the first issue recapping Dirk Morgna's life... why?? By 1999, the only people reading this book are longtime fans. They really don't need to keep writing these books like it's 1982 Marvel. Oh, and to make things slightly cringey, they name the fire elemental that's possessed Dirk: Phy'r. Ugh... Element Lad and Monstress have joined the fight as the five Legionnaires try to stop Dirk from destroying more of Tokyo. Saturn Girl, Gates, and Lady Mysa arrive as well and the magician realizes that teamwork will solve the problem. Wow - so glad that a team of super-heroes, literally built on teamwork, got that suggestion. Why is Mysa here? To planet Swizzar we go, where a butterfly-looking being named Flutter is possessed by the wind elemental named A'rie. I swear they're not even trying with these names. On Dryad, Brika is possessed by RRox, the earth elemental. And she starts attacking the colonizers who want to take over her world. So she's good, right? And on Gil'dan, Ebb is taken over by the unnamed water elemental (did the random bad name generator not work here or did no one notice?). All three start killing everyone around them, suck all the air and water off their planets or, in Rrox's case, they destroy the entire planet of Dryad. I knew this wasn't going to be good. Back to Earth, where Dirk's powers are getting stronger and stronger and he ends up sucking lava up from the core. He, like the other three, blasts off into space and heads somewhere. Everywhere the four fly by, they steal the energy of the planet and wreak havoc, whether it's Colu or Takron-Galtos. And where are they headed? The planet where Mordru was defeated and imprisoned. This isn't good, is it? To the third part of this kinda well done and actually interesting story... such a dramatic shift from the other book. We start off with the elementals arriving at the planet and killing random guards. Oh, and they didn't even bother giving Ebb an elemental name. So sad for him. The Legionnaires are rushing after them, trying to get there in their ship as quickly as possible. If I was a jerk, I'd mention how traveling through space is slow when they need it to be and fast when they don't want to think about it, but I'll let that go. We get a nice little subplot as Star Boy realizes that his gravity-controlling powers are working again. He's also laying into Dragonmage, which is well-deserved. By the way, would Dragonmage be punished by the U.P. for causing all this death and destruction? I mean, it could be argued that it's akin to manslaughter, right? He's directly responsible for the deaths of three planets. As the elementals wait for Rrox, the Legion has called in the rest of the troops who aren't Bizarro versions of themselves so Ultra Boy, Apparition, and Chameleon are heading to the planet too. Gates and Monstress lead the attack, hitting A'rie before Mysa can encase her in the same crystal prison Mordru is in. Then they take out Ebb as well. Saturn Girl tries to get through to Dirk mentally, and it looks like he's getting back into control, when Rrox shows up and sends the Legion for a loop. So they didn't see her coming? A big mountain flying through space? They start attacking Rrox, who breaks Ultra Boy's arm because he, once again, doesn't know how to use his powers at all. I mean, they're not even trying to make him competent, are they? Element Lad converts the stargate around Rrox's waist (don't ask) into a bomb and blows her up. I guess the Legion is no longer against killing, are they? The battles continue and Mordru starts stirring. Dragonmage and Star Boy show up through what I'm guessing is a mystic portal and join the fight. Star Boy and Mysa work together as he anchors himself to the ground and she starts separating the elemental from the being possessed. I have absolutely no idea why she needed Star Boy for this, but the writers stopped caring about anything making sense a long, long time ago, so why should I? In the "what a dumb subplot" category, this whole moment was referenced by Dreamer, who claimed that Star Boy would save his team. But all he did was stand there. Once again, is no one actually paying attention to anything? The beings start remembering who they were before the elementals and Brika isn't dead, but horribly sad and tormented at the fact that she destroyed her entire planet. So that's better...?? It's enough for her to join with the Legion and fight the other beings, who don't want to give up their powers. Dragonmage swears that he'll stop them and he starts a spell to capture them all in a big bubble. Mysa helps, which makes sense. Kid Quantum and Star Boy help too, which makes no sense. The bubble collapses upon itself, trapping the elementals inside... and Dragonmage... so I guess he's dead. Or trapped. Or just gone. But Mordru's still asleep, so that's good. No, he's still alive, but badly hurt. As are the host bodies of the four possessed by the elementals. Find out next issue who lives and who dies... of course, do we really care about any of them? I mean, honestly? The scary thing is that as much as part of this story made no sense and things were jumping around, this Legionnaires tale was so much better than anything in the Legion book that it's unfair I'm doing these reviews together. It almost feels like I'm getting whiplash by the drastic change in quality. Also, I'm probably overly positive about the Legionnaires because it's a competent, adequately done comic. It's not great. There have been far, far better stories by this creative team. But it's not the crap the other book is publishing right now. Our next Legionnaire in the spotlight... Lar Gand / Mon-El / Valor / M'Onel!!! You get a cookie if you remember these comics strips that appeared in DC comics. https://preview.redd.it/1epxa4ax5gyc1.jpg?width=409&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bffa618fbb68ad932a935aa0d65211ae8c630649 https://preview.redd.it/yuvyzoaj5gyc1.jpg?width=400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5673eca447c315b673b530494b38707a16bc85b https://preview.redd.it/3ma2zxft5gyc1.jpg?width=400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d26dffa7ace96094b9be7b9abf8519f57169d6fd https://preview.redd.it/h735vbxl5gyc1.jpg?width=1326&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8264d0b2f091cc350360dc297a207ed7301e035 This is a tough one to write, not because I don't like this character (which I do), but because I don't want this to sound like an old man yelling at clouds about how the good old days were so much better than anything else. Mon-El could've been the most boring, redundant super-hero in the Legion. He was certainly set up that way. An almost clone of Superboy, with the exact same powers and a costume that is fairly monotonous, Lar Gand could've been a character ignored by most because, let's be honest, everything he brought to the table had already been seen and done before. And this is even truer with both Superboy and Supergirl on the team. When you give a character the name Bob Cobb, you know you're not even trying to make them interesting. Instead, the writers leaned into four things that really established him as a character: - Lead poisoning
- Relationship with Tasmia / friendships with Tinya and Jo
- Fear of the Phantom Zone / the torment of 1,000 years of solitude
- Love for exploration
Now we had fertile ground to cover and ways to weaken/strengthen Mon-El that made him very, very different from the other Els. Some of the best Legion stories revolve around these four ideas and turned Mon-El into one of the most popular characters in the Legion. So, of course, every time there was a reboot or rethinking of the character, they pretty much tossed everything out except for him being an explorer. Lead was never a problem, Tasmia just wanted to date him but they never got further than that, and he had no other friends. Also, it seems like every time he shows up in DC continuity, it's just as a Superman fill in and not really his own person. Heck, he even adopted a costume that was similar to Superman's. Why can't they try to make him even slightly different? Such a waste. It's funny that I actually consider the Tasmia/Lar relationship more important than almost any other and one that should be a keystone for the series. It allowed the writers to grow and develop both characters in such an epic way that they just feel 'right' when they're together, if that makes any sense. The other thing that always amazes me is that Mon-El (sorry, Valor) has the longest lasting solo series of any Legionnaire. The competition isn't that strong, and the book didn't even last two years, but it's still better than Karate Kid's series... which, admittedly, isn't saying that much, is it? What do you think of Mon-El? On a housekeeping note, next week's column is probably going to arrive a day earlier than usual so I can enjoy a weekend trip. Fingers crossed I get through the next set of 6 comics without putting my head through a wall. submitted by drake_burroughs to LegionofSuperheroes [link] [comments] |

In what world do these students come back to class. Like you’ve made a conscious decision that this is more important than your education. Stop coming to class. Don’t get degree.
The second they made class “virtual” is the day they just gave an opportunity to even more idiots to show up to this festival of antisemitism.
Set a date of 5pm tomorrow. Anyone still there is immediately expelled. As of 6pm you are trespassing and will be met with the harshest punishment Columbia can legally bring.
Hooray.
University president probably too scared to lose a few million dollars.
I cannot imagine being a premedical student or engineering student who wants to learn and take finals. This is so embarrassing that the university can’t control a bunch of 19 year olds. But they’ve been telling them they’re the most important people in the world. So reap what you sow.

2024.04.24 01:56 s_v_s_a Players who won a title for their respective teams.
With all the legends who never won a title, and ones who rode the coattails to several rings (Horry) and arguments that Kobe couldn’t do it without Shaq or MJ couldn’t do it without Rodman.
What players do you think won NBA titles by themselves. Obviously no one player can do everything, but for me who comes to mind is Dirk Nowitzki in 2011. Once the playoffs came around I feel like he really took it a step above and single-handedly scored every clutch bucket. You guys have any other examples of players that you feel won a ring for their team?

2024.04.19 18:52 FootMcFeetFoot Husband’s (40m) Best Friend’s (40m) Wife (40f) LOATHES ME (36f). How do I interact with these people in a mature way?
This is long… TLDR at the bottom.
My husband, Will (40m), has a lifelong friend, Dirk (40m). I (36f) met Dirk about eighteen years ago when Will and I were just friends.
Fast forward, Will and I are an official couple. Dirk dates my roommate for a blip in time, we all hang out and it’s great. Dirk and I become friends he’s a fun person to be around.
Dirk is in the military so we don’t get to see him often because he was stationed in another state but he randomly just appears on our doorstep, he never would give a heads up, and it was always a fun week when he was down.
Dirk gets sent to Afghanistan for a year. He comes back married. At this point Will and I have been dating for about four years.
Dirk comes back with his now pregnant wife, Peg, they’ve been married for about a month and she’s about ten weeks pregnant, so tired, and feeling like garbage. We meet her for the first time and all was good. Or so it seemed. Turns out I did something she took as offense to, I apologized to her and she said it was okay. Done. The rest of their visit was good.
Time passes and they come down with their baby for a new years party at another member of their life long friend group. Dirk and Peg are so insanely rude the whole time they’re staying at this person’s house. I’ve never seen Dirk act like that before, they’re talking bad about the wife of the friend’s house they were staying at. Mad that they had to pitch in for food. I kept my mouth shut. But Dirk and Peg were bragging about this new house they were buying. It was what I would consider a large home, around two-thousand square feet. I personally like smaller homes, so when Dirk was showing me photos and I say “I like that it doesn’t feel very large.” Dirk takes offense to this and raises his voice to say “IT’S TWO-THOUSAND SQUARE FEET, IT’S NOT SMALL!” So I apologize and tell him that I meant it as a compliment because I don’t like large homes, I like homes that feel comfy. And Dirk accepted it and that was it. Done. But the same night, Peg is drinking, I’m drinking and she confronts me about the offensive thing I did to her a couple years ago. I apologize for it a second time, and added “I’m sorry that this is still bothering you.” And we talk some and she accepts my second apology.
A few years go by with visits in between, all is seemingly good.
Then, we’re all together again for another new years party, Will and I are married at this point and these weird conversations are going on. Dirk and Peg are asking “what if scenarios”. They recently took a trip to Vegas so they were asking questions like… “Both of you are okay with it, how much money could a stranger offer you for you to have sex with them?” They were giving out their numbers of like, a $500 thousand. The other couples are refusing to say anything so I say (not an exact quote but close) “The real question that you’re asking is how much money would I accept to destroy my marriage, because even if we’re both cool with it, a seed of resentment has been planted, and the likelihood of that coming back to haunt us is high. I know I couldn’t handle Will sleeping with another woman and I KNOW he couldn’t handle me sleeping with another man, so I would say no, no matter the amount.” And Will agrees. Well, Peg and Dirk hate my response and they keep prodding, the conversations just get weirder and weirder. Later on that night Peg brings up that offensive thing that I did to her and I again apologize, for the third time, and she says “we’re all good. It’s in the past.” At this point it’s getting pretty deep in the past.
After that things are weird and strained. Dirk started lashing out at me randomly when we’re hanging out. He accused me of cheating with Will when we were just friends when Will had a girlfriend. Look, I’m guilty of maybe “lurking” but we were friends before Will’s relationship and I did like him but I NEVER overstepped that friendship boundary. It was Will that overstepped it and that was after his relationship was over. But you know, outsiders seem to know everything /s. Dirk also threw out some insults towards my physical appearance, tall female with big feet and hands… so… his insults are clever /s.
Then Peg’s older brother is murdered by his girlfriend. I don’t ever text her but I send her a text this time giving her my sympathy and offering her any support I can, she doesn’t respond, and that was okay to me. We also send out a condolence card with a gift card to a restaurant. Card sent, and and signed with “Your friend…”
The following day Dirk calls my husband to complain about me. Saying really mean stuff about me. I had just had a baby and Dirk says to Will that “Will likes fat chicks now” and I sobbed when I heard that. That one cut me deep. Then Dirk says Peg hates me, and saying that she is still offended by what I did, at this point, eight years ago. Will defends me but he is very conflict avoidant and very much taken off guard, so I would say his defense was not the greatest, but that was okay.
So a few months pass, and Dirk comes ringing again and his wife has new/old beef with me, again, revolving around the “offense” that I caused her ages ago, and which I apologized for THREE TIMES at this point. I told Will “Okay, she’s not going to let this go… I’m done apologizing about it.”
A few more months later Dirk and Peg are going on a trip and Dirk wanted us to watch their kid. I tell Will, yes of course, I love that little guy. Well behind the scenes Peg is in a fit saying that she doesn’t want her kid around me because she thinks I will “BEAT HIM”!!! Unbelievable.
So they stop by before their trip and I am just sooooo uncomfortable by their presence. I had lost all of my baby weight at this point so the first thing Dirk comments on is “you lost weight!”… I’m so annoyed by his comment. I say “hi” to him and I admittedly snub Peg. She comes in all hot like nothing has happened, and I just barely squeak out a smile and walk away. We sit down at the dining table and Will and Dirk are talking and I just want to disappear. So I get up and go into an adjacent room and just do work for my business, ignoring them the whole time. I just couldn’t, I couldn’t put on the “everything is cool” persona.
Things are worse than ever now since I snubbed Peg. She is still running her mouth to Dirk who is running his mouth to Will, who has told him to “STFU” several times and not Will has decided for the sake of my mental health to not even share what’s said.
Dirk is a completely different person than the person I one knew. When he knows I’m in the house he tries to joke around with me over the phone but I can’t… I feel like things are so damaged, these people are not my friends.
What I need advice on is they’re coming to visit in a couple months and I don’t to know what to do. I don’t know how to handle it. I don’t want to talk to her, but I don’t want to do the awkward snubbing, and I absolutely don’t want to be fake. I’m thinking about making myself scarce. Take our kid to a theme park while they’re down and staying with other friends so I’m just never home. But IT’S MY HOME!
Ideally, I want to know the most mature way to handle this. And I do not want to have a sit down with her and have anymore conversations, I feel like that has been done, tried, and proven unsuccessful. And Will is confused on whether he should ditch his friend since childhood. I tell Will all the time that I will not force him to give up that relationship. I don’t want to be the wedge but I feel like Dirk and Peg are making me the wedge and I FREAKING HATE IT.
TLDR: How do I cope with being around someone that hates my ever loving guts, in a mature and respectful way?
UPDATE: I’m getting a lot of really solid advice and taking it. The theme of the advice is for me to be firm and absolute in my feelings and stop allowing this behavior. I talked to my husband, and told him I’m done and I don’t want them in my home nor do I want to see either of them and I left it there. My husband didn’t say anything other than a sigh, but I know he’s mulling it over and I need to give him time to do that.
Additionally, with many request, this is the bombshell offense. I left it out purposefully because I think it’s really dumb and I didn’t want to paint Peg as a certain way right off the bat:
what I do for a living I get a lot of free books. I’m constantly giving them away. so when they showed up for the first time Dirk told her that I’ll give her some books but I had recently donated a bunch so I only had a couple new releases and because of the imprint they were all “self improvement” books for new releases and more specifically.. relationship improvement. So it was books about how to cope in a struggling marriage and how to talk better with your spouse.
So she accused me of being passive aggressive and implying their relationship needed help.
That’s not what I meant. And I told her they were new releases, and that she didn’t have to take them and could instead pick some books off my bookshelf that I was keeping for myself.
But she declined and took the “self improvement” books anyway.

I've been waffling on what to call this metric/system/algorithm basically since its inception. I thought I had kind of settled on "Player Career Score" for a while, but then I added peaks to the equation and it doesn't really fit anymore. I think i'm just going to go with "Legacy Score" at this point. Really lean into what we're doing here, with every accomplishment as a "legacy points added" type of thing.
- 60. Isiah Thomas - 258.2
- Career - 219.5

- 1x Citizenship Award (1987)
- 5,000 Assist Club (9,061; 10th all-time)
- #11 retired by the Detroit Pistons
- College Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee (2006)
- We have reached perhaps the most egregious placement on the list. Isiah Thomas at 60th. (Although I think I'll get more outrage from #19, though that's I personally think that one's not quite as bad.) Personally, if I was doing a completely subjective list, I'd probably instinctively put Isiah somewhere in the 30-40 range. So what is happening here to cause him to be so low?
- First off, he has a really low career win share total. For guys in the top 60 on this ranking, only Willis Reed and Joel Embiid have fewer, and Embiid will almost certainly pass Thomas in a few years. Now I know win shares is far from a perfect metric, but I feel its weaknesses are skewed against the far older generation, like pre-1960 players. But still, if you feel like it's undervaluing Thomas's contributions on the court, I can't fault you.
- To go along with that, Thomas's playoff win shares are fairly low, too. He has only 4.9 championship win shares from two titles, which is the fourth-lowest for a player with 2+ titles among my top 60. (Dave Cowens, Bob Cousy, Willis Reed, and Bob McAdoo have fewer.) To put that into some perspective, Nikola Jokic had 5.0 championship win shares in his 2023 title run alone, though Jokic is a win share monster.
- Thomas also doesn't do very well in MVP shares, either. He's 53rd in Adjusted MVP Award Shares (remember, the MVP hasn't been voted on in a consistent way for its entire history; some years only had votes for the top three, some top one, so I adjust them to give every year equal weight). He received MVP votes ten times, but only finished in the top five once (fifth in 1984) and top ten three other times, so he was never really thought of as a top five guy during his prime years.
- All that said, Thomas was an exceptional floor general (top 60 all time is still really good!) I think he's probably a little bit overrated by fans in general because he got two rings beating Jordan before Jordan was Jordan, and after Magic and Bird had started to fade, but he still earned those rings. Plus the whole "Dream Team Snub" has really only added to his legacy. All in all, he's a difficult player to place, no matter how you're trying to do it.
- 59. Kevin McHale - 266.7
- Career - 208.2
- 1981-1993
- BOS
- 113.0 Win Shares
- 0.331 Adjusted MVP Award Shares (1 top five finish: 1987 - 4th)
- 1x All-NBA First Team Selection (1987)
- 7x All-Star Selection (1984, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991)
- 3x All-Defensive First Team Selection (1986, 1987, 1988)
- 6.4 Championship Win Shares (3 titles - 1981 BOS, 1984 BOS, 1986 BOS)
- 3.9 Finals Win Shares (2 Finals losses - 1985 BOS, 1987 BOS)
- 5.1 Conference Finals Win Shares (2 Conf. Finals losses - 1982 BOS, 1988 BOS)
- Peak - 325.1
- Other achievements
- 3x All-Defensive Second Team Selection (1983, 1989, 1990)
- 2x Sixth Man of the Year (1984, 1985)
- #32 retired by the Boston Celtics
- College Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee (2006)
- Kevin McHale: Footwork God. I think it's actually illegal to mention McHale without mentioning how good he was at footwork. In fact, here's a 13-minute supercut of McHale doing his thing if you don't know what I'm talking about. (It's actually a lot of up-and-under moves at different spots on the court, but he does mix it up here and there.)
- 58. Bill Sharman - 270.2
- Career - 213.7
- 1951-1961
- WSC, BOS
- 82.8 Win Shares
- 0.105 Adjusted MVP Award Shares (1 top five finish: 1956 - 5th)
- 4x All-NBA First Team Selection (1956, 1957, 1958, 1959)
- 3x All-NBA Second Team Selection (1953, 1955, 1960)
- 8x All-Star Selection (1953, 1954, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960)
- 5.1 Championship Win Shares (4 titles - 1957 BOS, 1959 BOS, 1960 BOS, 1961 BOS)
- 1.5 Finals Win Shares (1 Finals loss - 1958 BOS)
- 2.2 Conference Finals Win Shares (3 Conf. Finals losses - 1953 BOS, 1954 BOS, 1955 BOS)
- Peak - 326.7
- Other achievements

- #21 retired by the Boston Celtics
- 1x ABL champion as coach (1962)
- 1x ABA champion as coach (1971)
- 1x NBA champion as coach (1972)
- 1x ABA Coach of the Year (1970)
- 1x NBA Coach of the Year (1972)
- 5x NBA champion as executive (1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988)
- College Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee (2006)
- Bill Sharman is the proto-Jerry West. For everything he did on the court, and he did a lot, he probably did more off the court. Coach of the Year in two leagues. Champion as a coach in three leagues. Helped build the Showtime Lakers. Invented the shootaround! Can you imagine that? One day he just said, "hey guys, how about you warm up and get some shots up?" and everyone went "what the fuck are you talking about, coach?"
- West just got into the Hall of Fame (again) as a contributor, which is not a thing I realized we were doing. I previously thought "contributor" status was for "combined playing, coaching, executive, and/or other achievements" so once you were in as a player or coach, contributor was off the table, but I guess not. But what I mean is, if West is going in as a contributor, Sharman should, too.
- 57. Pau Gasol - 279.6
- Career - 227.8
- 2002-2019
- MEM, LAL, CHI, SAS, MIL

- 7x EuroBasket All-Tournament Team (2001, 2003, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2017)
- 20,000 Point Club (20,894; 42nd all-time)
- 10,000 Rebound Club (11,305; 28th all-time)
- #16 retired by the Los Angeles Lakers
- Pau Gasol might be the most decorated international player who spent the bulk of his career in the NBA. I'm just talking in terms of accomplishments here, by the way. I'm sure most people would agree Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo, among others, are probably more skilled, as was Hakeem Olajuwon and Dirk Nowitzki before them. But in terms of accomplishments that aren't NBA-related (like the Olympics, World Cup, foreign leagues, etc.), I think Gasol probably tops everyone else. (The "spent the bulk of their career in the NBA" caveat also filters out guys like Arvydas Sabonis and Oscar Schmidt who have crazy international resumes, but played very little or not at all in the NBA.) I just think it's impressive Gasol has three Spanish League titles, from before and after his NBA career, to go along with all the national team medals he won basically every NBA offseason.
- And just as a reminder, nothing listed under a player's "Other achievements" section factors into their score - the score is strictly based on NBA (or ABA) accomplishments. I just think they're interesting to note, so that's why they're there.
- A final note on Gasol: he's the highest rated player who doesn't have a single vote for MVP to his name. (At least for players who played since the MVP's inception.) It seems like he would've gotten a fifth-place vote here or there, but nope, just consistently put together a Hall of Fame career where not a single person ever considered him a top-five player.
- 56. Clyde Drexler - 282.0
- Career - 240.1
- 1984-1998
- POR, HOU
- 135.6 Win Shares
- 0.778 Adjusted MVP Award Shares (2 top five finishes: 1988 - 5th, 1992 - 2nd)
- 1x All-NBA First Team Selection (1992)
- 2x All-NBA Second Team Selection (1988, 1991)
- 2x All-NBA Third Team Selection (1990, 1995)
- 10x All-Star Selection (1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997)
- 3.0 Championship Win Shares (1 title - 1995 HOU)
- 5.6 Finals Win Shares (2 Finals losses - 1990 POR, 1992 POR)
- 3.7 Conference Finals Win Shares (2 Conf. Finals losses - 1991 POR, 1997 HOU)
- Peak - 323.9
- Other achievements
- 1x SWC Player of the Year (1983)
- 1x Olympic Gold Medalist (1992)
- 20,000 Point Club (22,195; 34th all-time)
- 5,000 Assist Club (6,125; 36th all-time)
- #22 retired by the Portland Trail Blazers
- #22 retired by the Houston Rockets
- College Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee (2006)
- The Portland Trail Blazers take a lot of heat for taking Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan in the 1984 draft, but I'm going to take the opportunity to defend them a little bit. First, injuries are a bitch and not entirely predictable. But probably more importantly, they had just drafted fellow shooting guard Clyde Drexler in 1983. Now, Drexler didn't have a spectacular rookie season, but he was coming off the bench behind Jim Paxson, who had an All-NBA season in 1984. Drexler and Paxson kind of split time at the starting spot (or started together) in 1985, but it would've been fairly ridiculous to draft another rookie shooting guard when you already had one in his prime coming off an All-NBA season and one you had just drafted who you thought could give you maybe 75% of Jordan's potential production, when your team was severely lacking in big men. (Mychal Thompson primarily played out of position at center for most of the previous year.) Now whether the Blazers should have made a trade involving Drexler and/or Paxson is another debate, but if they were intent on keeping the two, drafting Jordan didn't make any sense.

- Say what you will about Davis's proclivity for injuries, but when the man is healthy, he is borderline unstoppable. (Or maybe I should say was. He's not quite the offensive force he once was at this point, but his defense is still unmatched.)
- Davis is the only player with an NCAA title, NBA title, Olympic gold medal, and World Cup gold medal. It's hard to even imagine which active players could possibly match this feat. The only other active players with an NCAA title and even an All-Star selection are Jalen Brunson and Al Horford. I think we can all agree Horford won't be able to do it. (In addition to being old, he plays internationally for the Dominican Republic.) Brunson theoretically has a shot, but that's still a lot of work to do.

- I think Stockton's assist record is about as unbreakable as any record in basketball. Barring LeBron James playing until he's 50 (which I won't rule out!), it's just hard to see a path for anyone to do it during a conventional career. Stockton averaged 10.5 assists per game over a 19-year career, and during that 19-year career, he missed a grand total of 22 games. That's out of 1,526 possible games. (And he only missed games during two seasons. One season he played 78, and one he played 64. The rest were full seasons.)
- For reference, Stockton's 15,806 assists are 3,751 ahead of Jason Kidd in second place. (Though Chris Paul could move into second if he plays another season.) As I write this, LeBron has 11,009 assists and is in fourth place. If LeBron were to get his career average in assists with no dropoff going forward (7.4 per game), it would take him 649 games to pass Stockton, or eight full seasons.

- I only track top five finishes in MVP voting, because that's all the data we have for every year (we don't have full results for some seasons in the 60s and 70s), and because it gets fairly statistically insignificant after that. However, Payton is the king of finishing in sixth place for MVP, managing it five times: 1994, 1996, 1997, 2000, and 2002.
- Payton was on the "Dream Team Sequel" in 1996. They actually called it "Dream Team III" at the time because the World Cup team in 1994 was called "Dream Team II" although like most sequels, didn't really live up to the original. Dream Team III however has a case. Here's the rosters for comparison:
- 1992 US Olympic team: Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Clyde Drexler, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Christian Laettner, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson, John Stockton
- 1996 US Olympic team: Charles Barkley, Anfernee Hardaway, Grant Hill, Karl Malone, Reggie Miller, Shaquille O'Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon, Gary Payton, Scottie Pippen, Mitch Richmond, David Robinson, John Stockton
- Even taking into account that 1992 Larry Bird isn't really Larry Bird, I think I'd still take the 1992 team, but it's closer than a lot of people would think.

- McAdoo is probably the best player who will never get his jersey retired anywhere. His best and longest tenure was with the Buffalo Braves (now the Clippers) where he played for four and a half seasons, winning Rookie of the Year, MVP, and finishing second in MVP voting two other times. However, it feels like if the Clippers were going to honor any part of their Buffalo history, they would've done so by now, so I'm not anticipating that happening in the future.
- His next best shot would probably be the Lakers, where he played the backup center role for four years and won two titles there. Unfortunately for him, the Lakers have some pretty stingy criteria for retiring a jersey number. McAdoo does seem to meet all the prerequisite criteria of being in the Hall of Fame and winning titles there, but it's not like he was vital to those championships. He definitely helped, but it still might not be enough for him there. Maybe the Lakers wouldn't have felt right retiring his number without retiring Michael Cooper's first, but now that Cooper is in the Hall of Fame, maybe it's a possibility. I don't know.

2024.04.15 21:51 Successful-Bread-347 TMS Search - On A Fine Day / Elaine
I can't post this for some reason in the main TMS sub. Seems to be a disallowed topic.
There is a promo self-produced cassette called "On a Fine Day" listed on discogs (listed as 1983) from North Germany which has songs from Elaine and The Trinity (no discogs reference) on it, along with one track from Marc Bolan (T.Rex). (EDIT: This part about the tape involving Elaine seems to be an incorrect discogs entry or possible hoax, but Elaine remains a real band and a valid strong lead)
Elaine is a pretty obscure band from Kiel, North Germany (in the NDR1 radio zone where TMS was played) active until about 1983/4. Mentioned once about a year back and one member (not sure who) was contacted, and gave a
strange / hostile response that wasn't really a yes or no. Don't contact again without mod approval.
I see Elaine (& The Trinity?) had a connection to NDR Producer
Klaus Wellershaus who set up the MFJL show.
Klaus produced the album Überdruck (1982) which features this track by Elaine called First Thoughts, which is legit and I have the LP on order: Don't listen to the voice on this -but listen to drums and guitar. The fact they were using this riff in North Germany in 1983 is really interesting - it's not TMS but this could be an early version TMS they did or someone else in the local scene
(or The Trinity?) picked up the riff and went with it.
The voice in the Elaine track doesn't match the TMS singer. Here is one of the band's other singers years later singing though - Dirk Oliver Stempler:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AMXWCnI2gA ??
My ear isn't good enough to work out if that other singer is a match to TMS or not, or Florian Maas (see below).
THIS PART IS LIKELY AN INCORRECT DISCOGS ENTRY:
The Trinity - these guys are really top shelf obscure & are the ones that may be a hoax. Except for the short note about The Trinity on the Elaine's discogs page and being on this cassette somehow there is no other reference to The Trinity. They don't have a proper discogs reference and don't show up anywhere I can find on the web. It's got the feel to me of a high school band. Some members of Elaine are also listed as members of a later Trinity band (Trinity-Mania, 1991) in discogs (Florian Maas, Karl-Heinz Eckert, and Norbert Butz) which could be an error, or perhaps they are linked beyond the cassette that shows up on discogs. Or maybe the discogs entry is a hoax, as only 1 person made all the edits a year or so back. Florian Maas did vocals in the later band The Trinity-Mania, etc. so I'm guessing he was also vocals in The Trinity. If they are linked to Elaine more than just being on a cassette together, then Florian Maas's vocals become interesting. Listen to him in this later synth band from around 1991/2: On this one as well, my ear isn't good enough to tell if that could be the TMS voice. This is reddit, so no one will agree on agree on anything. But this is all North Germany 1983 & these guys with a connection with the NDR producer are together and using that riff with deep vocals.... Let's see if we can get some productive answers here. Couldn't find any contact details or ways to verify. If contact details for The Trinity are found, do not contact but await Mod approval before contacting. T-Rex - There is a little more but not sure if its related or a coincidence. A much better known singer is on On A Fine Day as well - Marc Bolan has one track. I don't want to just guess too much but Marc Bolan was on NDR1 including on a date that often comes up - September 17, 1984. It looks like some T-Rex songs were played on that date possibly as a feature - Prelude and Misty Coast of Albany (with a strange reference in the playlists) The September 17, 1984 date has come up before and before because 4 unknown "Amateurband" songs were played on this date that could theoretically be TMS. "Amateurband" is a placeholder for new / non-copyrighted bands that NDR didn't need to pay royalties to so weren't listed. This date also had The Legendary Pink Dots - Love Puppets track which is on the BASF4 tape that also has TMS.
Speculation only - but if its a real discogs entry its a bit possible that the Marc Bolan songs were sent to NDR with some Trinity / Elaine tracks from their shared album and were included in with Marc Bolan's tracks or in Amateurband on that date. Who knows - this part is just a guess. But the NDR North Germany 1983 connections, vocals and riff, and the link to the NDR producer are interesting.
Don't contact anyone without mod approval. If this isn't a hoax its a really interesting lead. I need to get back to my day job after spending far too much time looking into these guys.

2024.04.15 19:50 Frankaragatan In the history of the NBA, no team that finished the regular season with a 64-18 record had ever won the championship
Here is the table of how teams with a >.750 win percentage in an 82-game season succeeded in getting a ring
Record | Teams | Champs | % |
73-9 | 1 | 0 | .000 |
72-10 | 1 | 1 | 1.000 |
71-11 | 0 | 0 | |
70-12 | 0 | 0 | |
69-13 | 2 | 2 | 1.000 |
68-14 | 1 | 0 | .000 |
67-15 | 7 | 5 | .714 |
66-16 | 4 | 3 | .750 |
65-17 | 4 | 3 | .750 |
64-18 | 4 | 0 | .000 |
63-19 | 8 | 1 | .125 |
62-20 | 15 | 6 | .400 |
The 2023-24 Boston Celtics are the 5th team to reach that mark. Here's how the other 4 did in the playoffs:
Record | Team | Year | Playoff Result |
64-18 | Seattle SuperSonics | 1995-96 | Lost NBA Finals |
64-18 | Utah Jazz | 1996-97 | Lost NBA Finals |
64-18 | Detroit Pistons | 2005-06 | Lost Eastern Conference Finals |
64-18 | Phoenix Suns | 2021-22 | Lost Western Conference Semifinals |
64-18 | Boston Celtics | 2023-24 | ??? |
In fact, in the last 15 years, only 4 of the Maurice Podoloff Trophy (best regular season record/top overall seed) winners have also hoisted the Larry O'Brien Trophy at the end of the playoffs. That's a conversion rate of about 26.7%.
Year | Team | Record | Playoff Result |
2008-09 | Cleveland Cavaliers | 66-16 | Lost Eastern Conference Finals |
2009-10 | Cleveland Cavaliers | 61-21 | Lost Eastern Conference Semifinals |
2010-11 | Chicago Bulls | 62-20 | Lost Eastern Conference Finals |
2011-12 | Chicago Bulls | 50-16 | Lost Eastern Conference First Round |
2012-13 | Miami Heat | 66-16 | NBA Champions |
2013-14 | San Antonio Spurs | 62-20 | NBA Champions |
2014-15 | Golden State Warriors | 67-15 | NBA Champions |
2015-16 | Golden State Warriors | 73-9 | Lost NBA Finals |
2016-17 | Golden State Warriors | 67-15 | NBA Champions |
2017-18 | Houston Rockets | 65-17 | Lost Western Conference Finals |
2018-19 | Milwaukee Bucks | 60-22 | Lost Eastern Conference Finals |
2019-20 | Milwaukee Bucks | 56-17 | Lost Eastern Conference Semifinals |
2020-21 | Utah Jazz | 52-20 | Lost Western Conference Semifinals |
2021-22 | Phoenix Suns | 64-18 | Lost Western Conference Semifinals |
2022-23 | Milwaukee Bucks | 58-24 | Lost Eastern Conference First Round |
2023-24 | Boston Celtics | 64-18 | ??? |
It hasn't been done in 7 years. The last team to do it was the dominant KD-Steph Warriors, who would have gotten a good shot at the NBA Triple Crown if the In-Season Tournament David Stern Cup was around back then.
Here is the complete list of teams who have won the Adam Silver NBA Commissioner Shield (winning both the regular season Maurice and the playoff Larry trophies):

2024.04.15 01:01 CazOnReddit The Head-To-Head Records of the Eastern/Western Conference Seeds from 1-8
While the regular season doesn't matter a ton in terms of projecting who will win a series, the head-to-head series, there is some precedent for them being a potential warning for the postseason matchup; the 2007 Mavericks won 67 games but ultimately made history as one of the few 1 seeds to lose in the first round against the "We Believe" Warriors. That Warriors team won their 3 regular season matchups and were seen as a bad matchup for the Mavericks, who ultimately went down in 6 and thus led to a very awkward and infamous press conference where Dirk Nowitzki accepted his MVP while being absent from the 2nd round.
As such, let's take a brief look at the head-to-head record for this regular season for the prospective matchups in the 1st round.
Seed/Team | Head-to-Head Record | Notes/Context |
1 (Boston) vs 8 (Hawks)* | 2-2 | Boston blew a 30 point lead in one of their losses; last year's Hawks/Celtics series went to 6 games |
1 (Boston) vs 8 (Bulls)* | 3-0 | Bulls will be without Zach LaVine, who was absent from 2 of the Bulls 3 straight losses to the Celtics; he went 1/9 from the field and only scored 2 points |
1 (Boston) vs 8 (76ers)* | 3-1 | Joel Embiid missed 2 of the games the Celtics won against the 76ers |
1 (Boston) vs 8 (Heat)* | 3-0 | Jimmy Butler missed one of the 3 games they lost to Boston; this will be a rematch of the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals |
2 (Knicks) vs 7 (Heat)** | 2-1 | Knicks will miss Julius Randle for the postseason; 1st game was pre-O.G. trade/trade deadline moves i.e. no Anunoby, no Bojan and Immanuel Quickley was coming off the bench. 2nd game was without Julius Randle or Mitchell Robinson. Tyler Herro was out in the 1st game. |
2 (Knicks) vs 7 (76ers) | 3-1 | Knicks will miss Julius Randle for the postseason; Embiid only played in 1 of the 4 games (The Sixers lost. Badly.). One of these games had too many injuries for both teams to list them all out, the infamous 79-73 final scoring bout that the Embiid-less 76ers won. |
3 (Bucks) vs 6 (Pacer) | 1-4 | #Ballgate |
4 (Cavaliers) vs 5 (Magic) | 2-2 | Evan Mobley was absent the 2nd and 3rd game of the regular season series. Darius Garland was absent in a blowout win for the Cavs while Donovan Mitchell was absent in a close loss. |
\8th seed is TBD; teams who can achieve the 8th seed are the Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks or Chicago Bulls)
\*7th seed is TBD; teams who can achieve the 7th seed are the Miami Heat or Philadelphia 76ers)
West
Seed/Team | Head-to-Head Record | Notes/Context |
1 (Thunder) vs 8 (Pelicans)* | 2-1 | The Pelicans sole win coincides with Brandon Ingram was missing the 1st game, while Zion was absent from the 2nd game (It was a blowout) |
1 (Thunder) vs 8 (Lakers)* | 1-3 | The Lakers shot 98 free throws to the Thunder's combined 68 over the course of these 4 games. |
1 (Thunder) vs 8 (Kings)* | 2-2 | The Kings will be without Kevin Huerter and Malik Monk if they do clinch the 8th seed. |
1 (Thunder) vs 8 (Warriors)* | 3-1 | 2 of OKC's 3 wins were in overtime, and their one loss almost went into OT. Curry was injured during one of the Warriors losses (Draymond was serving suspension for being a jackass) while Gary Payton II was injured partway through the same game. |
2 (Nuggets) vs 7 (Pelicans)** | 2-1 | Nuggets were missing Jamal Murray in their sole loss to the Pelicans. |
2 (Nuggets) vs 7 (Lakers)** | 3-0 | Nuggets swept them in the Western Conference Finals the year prior and they swept the Lakers in this year's regular season. I am sensing a pattern. |
3 (Timberwolves) vs 6 (Suns) | 0-3 | KAT was absent in the 2nd game of this regular season sweep and he only recently came back prior to what was today's loss to Phoenix. |
4 (Clippers) vs 5 (Mavericks) | 2-1 | This will be the 3rd time these incarnations of their respective teams face off in the playoffs, though whether Kawhi will play is TBD. 2 of the 3 Clippers wins came during their post-Harden hot streak where they went 15-5 (Harden played pretty bad in the 1st game despite a Clippers blowout). Dallas significantly retooled their roster since their final matchup, which was a Mavs win so this regular season series is probably the least helpful out of all of these. |
\8th seed is TBD; teams who can achieve the 8th seed are the New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings of the Golden State Warriors)
\*7th seed is TBD; teams who can achieve the 7th seed are the Los Angeles Lakers or New Orleans Pelicans)

64-18 | Boston Celtics | 2023-2024 | ??? |

2024.04.14 19:39 bad_fortuneteller r/nba 10 years ago today: Top posts from April 14-20, 2014
Yesterday I said that I would start to post these on the Saturday before the week I'm covering (as opposed to the Saturday at the end of the week) because that just makes more sense. As a result of this switch, I'm posting this one the day after the one for last week. You can find last week's edition
here.
Here are the most upvoted posts every day this upcoming week, 10 years ago.
April 14, 2014: - This Zach Randolph pass is utterly filthy
Z-Bo connects with Nick Calathes for a crazy assist that I'm not sure Randolph was even attempting. - The Trail-Blazers beat the Warriors in a heart-stopping thriller - u/Erytus
This game is actually really funny in hindsight. A teenaged-looking Curry puts up 47 points, but it's Draymond Green who is averaging 6 points who hits the 3 to send it to overtime. And then in overtime, it's none other than Andre Iguodala taking the game-winning three. Max Kellerman must not have been watching this game though, because he bricks it badly. In all seriousness, this game was pretty cool; I suggest watching some highlights. - "I couldn’t choose a better team and the teammates than what I’ve got here.” - Lowry
This is bittersweet in hindsight. The bromance of Kyle Lowry and DeMar Derozan was blooming at this point and knowing that Derozan would leave 5 years later makes this a little sad. The comments here are filled with people doubting Kyle Lowry's return to Toronto in the upcoming free agency period. As we know he basically stayed in Toronto for as long as they wanted him there. April 15, 2014: - GFY: Andre Miller's perfect full court pass - u/JDonSports
I always forget how long Andre Miller played. I remember him being pretty old in the late '00s with Philly. He ended up playing two more seasons after this too. The clip doesn't work, but I'll link it in the comments. - With Miami Heat loss to the Wizards, Pacers clinch the #1 seed in the East - u/Duzaman
This thread is filled with Pacers fans who are ecstatic about getting home court advantage in a potential conference finals matchup against LeBron's Heat. They got their matchup, but as it usually was for the Pacers when LeBron was in the East, it didn't matter. - The Toronto Raptors win a franchise record 48 games with the 110-100 win against the Milwaukee Bucks. Last year, the Raptors lost 48 games. - u/thatdudecalledZZ
I'm not a Raptors fan, but I would imagine they would look back at this season pretty fondly. This franchise record-setting season would actually be the worst season for the Raps until 2021. April 16, 2014: - Chris Paul schools Evan Fournier - u/-MarcusD-
As they normally are, the clip in this one doesn't work, but I'll link one in the comments. Evan Fournier wearing 94 and playing on the Nuggets feels wrong for some reason. This move by Chris Paul is nastier than what you see when searching Evan Fournier's last name on Google (seriously, don't). - Hype Poster: The Road Ends Here...
A highly anticipated matchup between the Knicks and Raptors to determine who would finish the regular season with the NBA Belt. If you don't know what the Belt is, I suggest looking it up. It's kinda fun. - Toronto Raptors "We the North" promo. - u/Kharius
Out of everything here this week, this is the coolest video. I seriously suggest watching this. Raptors fans must have been eating this week. The video doesn't work because the Raptors deleted it and re-uploaded it for some reason, so you can find it here.
April 17, 2014: - Carmelo: "I don't know if I can afford another season of losing...At this point in my career I'm not concerned about the money." - u/OnePointSeven
Carmelo said this and then didn't leave the Knicks for like three more years. The overall sentiment at the time was that Melo would leave for a team like Chicago in the offseason. 2. I took the Play-Off Bracket and moved teams up based on the winners of the regular season match-ups (with pt. differential deciding the winners of tied series). Interesting results to say the least. The Wizards would've won the Finals in this scenario. I'm curious how this would play out for this year. Probably Boston takes it. - Mike Miller played in all 82 games this season; 1st time since his rookie season
Mike Miller is another one of those guys that played way longer than I remember. He was on an NBA team as recent as 2017. The Grizzlies could have used Mike Miller's durability this year. April 18, 2014: - Seattle fans... - u/breakshot
A heartfelt apology from an OKC fan to Seattle fans. It's a little corny, but people back then still had the decency to make a real discussion out of it instead of just commenting "Dear Diary." - "We want to make this place a living hell for Brooklyn" - Masai Ujiri
Masai and the Raptors were anticipating their playoff series against the Nets. The overall sentiment around the Raptors was literally euphoric around this time. - Dirk Nowitzki just missed another entrance into the 50-40-90 club - u/ownageman247
Dirk was incredible close in all three percentages. I think a lot of people forget that Dirk was still really good for a while after the 2011 Finals run. April 19, 2014: - Blake Griffin accidentally spills water on a Warriors fan while reacting to a replay - u/chanandlerer
This one's a classic. I'm sure you've all seen it. If not, there will be a link in the comments. - Masai Ujiri yells "F*** Brooklyn" (Video) - u/kylemramos
I can't believe this is real. Seriously, Toronto fans were eating. - Steph Curry holds up three fingers before Klay Thompson even shoots - u/j50n
Little did they know this wouldn't be the last time something like this happened. Link will be in comments. April 20, 2014: - Craig Sager JR interviews Gregg Popovich - u/dnc12
Craig Sager was a longtime sports reporter for CNN who had just been diagnosed with leukemia and understandably was not able to work at this game. In his place, his son did his job that night and Coach Pop had nothing but nice things to say about him. Sadly, Sager would pass away in 2016. Link to the interview will be in the comments. - Benny the Bull in his Sunday best in support of his friend Craig Sager. - u/mick_jaggers_penis
The entire league rallied around Sager and hoped for his recovery. - Kyle Korver block on Roy Hibbert - u/-MarcusD-
In slightly more uplifting news, the famously athletic Kyle Korver blocks a 7'2" man. This time period was peak "hate-on-Roy-Hibbert" days. Link to the clip will be in the comments. Teams mentioned: Raptors: x6
Warriors: x3
Wizards, Knicks, Grizzlies, Clippers, Nets, Pacers: x2
Blazers, Heat, Bucks, Nuggets, SuperSonics, Mavericks, Spurs, Bulls, Hawks: x1
