2024.05.15 05:27 AmtrakPepsi160 This Machine is Terrible IMHO
| This machine is quite possibly the worst vacuum I've ever used, without exaggeration. This Rainbow D4c (not the exact one in the picture, that comes from Grayson's Vacs and Mowers on Youtube) was a purchase by my father, who was a Rainbow salesman during the 80s apparently. He bought it used off of Ebay, and at first, I was thrilled to finally be able to use one, as my grandparents have had a D4 in their closet for years, but I've never seen them use it, nor was I allowed to. However, that excitement quickly faded after about a month of use, as I began to grow more-and-more irritated at how awful of a machine it was. Disregarding the main cons of Rainbows and other water filtration vacuums, these are some of my biggest problems with the D4c: - You have to use a separate hose for your attachments. Now, I'm not super annoyed when you have to do this with uprights like Kirbys, but it is absolutely ridiculous that you have to do this on a CANISTER vacuum, and while I wouldn't be as mad if you only had to do so when picking up luiqids, this shouldn't be somethingyou worry about with canister vacuums. And the strange thing about it is that their previous models had a disconnect for the power nozzle so that you could remove the hose handle, but they removed it for the D4c, but then later went back to it with the SEs and other models. Also, because the power cord runs straight from the PN to the canister, you can't turn off the brushroll unless you unplug it from the unit. Good job, Rainbow.
- The lack-luster preformance. Despite the PN having beater bars, it still did not clean very well. Now, to be fair, it was a used one, so maybe the belt was stretched, and/or the bearings in the brushroll were not spinning freely, but if it preforms this lousily in good-working condition, then that's just pitiful.
- The power nozzle and unit were unwieldy. The unit basically found every possible opportunity to get caught on furniture and other stuff, and the power nozzle was basically one big plastic brick at floor level, one that did not fit well in tight spaces (it was also loud as heck, too).
- The seemingly cheap build-quality of it. Again, let me emphasize that this was a used Rainbow, so that might've played into this, but things like the fancy gold cover on the handle is coming off, and the whole unit is seemingly made up of really cheap plastic for something that might've been $1000+ back in the 80s.
In short, the D4c is my least favorite vacuum of all time. We stopped using it, and now it lives in out laundry room gathering dust. For a time, that was my only working machine, so for my birthday, I got a Kirby G7 with the attachments and shampooer. It's not super convenient to use, but it's a heck of a lot better than that wood-paneled nightmare. In general, I'd say you should avoid water filtration vacuums for daily use. Do I plan on having them in my collection? Probably, although if I do, it's gonna be and E2 or a D4 SE, and they both wouldn't be my daily drivers. DO NOT BUY A D4C. submitted by AmtrakPepsi160 to VacuumCleaners [link] [comments] |

2024.05.12 09:36 hughchilles Looking for advice...
I picked up this OG heroquest cheap, I think they didn't know what they had, anyway I just want to play the game but I wonder if it's too rare to be just using it (I have a resin printer so was mainly after the books and cards, board's a bonus but i wouldn't mind a 30mm mat) It is only missing the skulls and one skeleton, the characters have been popped out and a couple damaged but repairable but all the rats bottles candles are untouched, none of the doors assembled, even the dice are unused. Should I just sell it? Would collectors go nuts for the untouched cardboard prints? Or is it not that relevant with the new edition out and 3D printers? I thought about selling just the furniture and saw a bunch on ebay for not a lot of money, made me consider just using the set as is and if I needed I could just buy a replacement furniture set, I do like the retro vibe but also dig the no cardboard. Thanks for reading and any thoughts on it, I paid $100AUD for it and just wondering if I should just sell it for $400 and get the new edition and reprint the old figures but that is a bit of a stuff around when I already have it, just seems like someone out there would go nuts for this as a collector it even still has the original advertising for another game in it.

2024.05.11 15:01 ItsPeij Any veteran Animal Crossing players? Hear me out;
I feel like DDLV is really Animal Crossing adjacent, so I'm wondering how many lovely fans here played. Especially ACNL, though ACNH is good too.
I was a part of the AC online community since NL released and there was an element to that community that I'm really surprised hasn't started to build in DDLV since the multiplayer update. Or maybe I just haven't found it yet!
On AC, some people would have entire islands/towns dedicated to helping other players with crafting supplies. We would often host giveaways of all kinds just for the joy of helping out our fellow players and building friendships!
I know it's a bit harder in DDLV, since we can't drop furniture items the same way, but is it possible at all? If I dropped a 99 stack of hardwood, could someone else pick it up during a visit? I saw people on eBay "selling" items in this way, and it just made me reminisce for when it was done out of friendship and joy instead of money.
I played ACNL for many years because of the community we built online, and I'd love to have something similar form for us players on DDLV to grow closer to eachother.
Idk if Devs ever look at this reddit - maybe, maybe not - but if they do, I hope they see this post and consider making that easier for us to do. The New Leaf community thrived for many many years due entirely to the amazing online community we were able to make and our ability to help eachother. To be able to drop not only craft items but star coins and furniture items would be really amazing.

2024.05.11 02:16 beaksuck Best way to sell everything we own?
Downsizing! My roommates and I are going our separate ways (multiple locations in the US) and we have a house FULL of good stuff that we’re looking to sell as quickly as possible. None of us find the idea of eBaying each individual item appealing (same with Facebook Market et al). Is there a service for selling all your possessions (art, furniture, toys, electronics) within a month or so? We’re located in the Twin Cities. We don't have a TON of spare cash on hand so an expensive estate sale won't work (unless they just take a cut of the proceeds?). Any advice at all appreciated, we're completely new to these waters. Thanks very much!

2024.05.09 02:51 99pennywiseballoons Vallejo Appreciation Post - favorite colors/products
When someone comes in who's new looking for help or asking for paint recommendations, Vallejo paints always come up. Sure, there's others, but it seems we all like their various products.
So what's the Vallejo paint you can't live without? The one that, when you run out or are getting close, you always restock on your next trip to the hobby store?
For me it's two colors:
70.846 - Mahogany - this dark brown is my go-to for a base coat for small furniture and floor highlights. I'm a fan of Hirst Arts molds and whenever I use the Inn Floor pieces (mold 221) I use it to do the outside edging on the tiles to give contrast against the lighter inner floor boards. I'm probably on my 3rd or 4th bottle of it and it's always in use on something I have on the go.
70.859 - Black Red - This color seems so underwhelming but it's such a perfect contrast for me when I'm doing darker stuff. If I'm painting undead it's always incorporated on cloth pieces somewhere. I don't get my love for this one, but it's also inconstant rotation.
Honorable mention - 72.023 - Electric Blue - I don't use this one very often, but I pull it out from time to time over some of my other blues. But this guy is 20 years old, I picked it up in a Game Color set back in 2003 on Ebay when I decided to get back into painting minis. Somehow, it still is usable despite the age. That set was my first experience with Vallejo paints and dropper bottles, too.
So what are the favorites in your supply?

2024.05.06 21:22 l1nux44 Peer review for my potential booth plan
Hey guys, I do reselling as a side gig and I've very happy with how things have been going. I'm thinking of renting a booth at an antique mall but I would like some input from people smarter than me so can I start with a higher chance of success.
The plan is to budget for 3 months, and see if it's profitable. If it is, then keep doing it. For inventory I'm thinking about using things that I can source for cheap, but would be a pain for me to sell on Ebay. Things like Jeans, Ties, ComputeCamera Bags, Purses, Shoes, Mugs, and small furniture like end tables if I can find them. I'm also considering reselling small food items for impulse buyers, like chips bags and soda for $1 each.
This is a bit of a unique situation for me since it requires a bit of an investment to start and if I'd like to go with the 3 month model then between rent, inventory, shelving and fees I'm estimating I'd be investing about $600-$800(ish).
I'd like some feedback on my plan from the eyes of someone who's more experienced. I could be approaching this all wrong for all I know so I can course correct.

2024.05.04 01:18 V3mo Did I do a fair job with my listings?
Hey guys! As some of yall may remember from the other day, I ended up finding a really great AG haul from an estate sale! I felt bad for them, they were by themselves in a closet just kinda tossed to the side. :(
After doing some research on pricing and identifying the dolls themselves, I went ahead and posted them to eBay. I was hoping yall could guide me as far as if the price seems to be fair for the condition of the dolls? Only one doll has a blemish on their arm, the others I was able to clean up really nicely and get them looking new again! I even did their hair, since they were super tangled and matted at first. Overall they’re in really great condition, no loose legs, arm, etc.
Anyways here are the listings for these girls and the furniture - did I do an okay job? Please do be honest with me, I really just want these little dolls to find people that love them again… something about seeing them lay there alone at the sale made me sad. I hope I brought some life into their world again haha. I will say… I grew up never having dolls… but after cleaning and doing these girls hair, it was oddly therapeutic?? I really enjoyed it!
Thanks in advance all!

2024.05.03 19:20 Far-Reward9476 Am I not filtering right or?
Hi all! I’ve been selling on Mercari for a bit and been buying on Mercari for a while longer. We’re preparing for a long distance move next spring, remodeling our home ourselves and giving it a much needed refresh. I’ve always been someone who likes to buy another’s “junk” and upcycle it into a conversation piece, especially when it saves us money. Anymore, the town I live in, consignment/thrifting carries double the price tag of just buying new and that just kills the joy and defeats the purpose. eBay sellers typically don’t ship anything larger than a side table, making most of the items I’m looking to find locally, and it seems there aren’t many eBay sellers selling used furniture in my area or a 100 mile radius. My question is, on Mercari, is there no possible way to search for an item and filter it by ‘local’ but specific to the location you’re at? I’ve tried filtering it to local, found a beautiful table.. in California. Is there no narrowing down the local search? Any suggestions are appreciated, TIA!

2024.05.01 23:11 143033 A Lesson in Vulnerability and Self-Compassion
I‘ve been on sick leave since January, because I’ve been struggling with depression for a while now. I finally decided to value myself over work, but I still have thoughts that my coworkers must hate me for abandoning them. They dug their own graves and it was the right thing to do. It does not matter what they think of me. They don‘t define my worth and these doubts have passed.
I‘m still waiting to get into a clinic and get proper treatment, but it‘s not easy. I can barely sleep, I am always exhausted and have the attention span of a goldfish. I wish I’d binge Netflix, read books or paint in the meantime, but I have no strength left for it. Most days I just spend the day doing a whole lot of nothing. It‘s been little successes that kept me going, the occasional homemade meal or a finished movie, but my rental appartement is just a mess. My kitchen sink has been the incubator of new life forms. Piles of cardboard from months worth of Amazon, eBay and takeout made it hard to go from room to room. Desire paths trail through the thick layer of dust on the ground.
The truth is that it‘s never been easy. I need 2 hours to and from work and have always had a hard time managing house chores along with it, but I would pretty consistently get a boost of energy to do the basics, even if it was only once a month. What has always been the biggest motivation though was when someone came over. Never would I clean this place up like when I had guests. I always guessed it‘s a deadline mentality and that I needed external pressure, but honestly, I never wanted anyone to know how much I truly struggle in life and that‘s why shame and panic kicked in. Polished the furniture, scrubbed the tiles, cleaned the windows. There cannot be a single trace that existence is exhausting, I must appear functioning.
With depression comes self-isolation. I return to old habits and find it hard to open up to people close to me. I want to hide my head in the sand when people reach out. I only want to talk when things are going well. With self-isolation the external pressure vanished. I have had no reason anymore to clean my place. After all if I don‘t value myself, then why would I care? It all comes back to shame and a broken sense of self. Yet one day I decided to open up to my best friend and tell her how my life really looked right now. No detail left out, a raw depiction and her reaction took me by surprise.
„You know, you don‘t have to do this alone. Do you want me to come over and help you clean?“
I didn‘t know how to react. Not only have I shared my deepest shame, but was rewarded with compassion. My initial reaction was to deny the offer, even though it‘s what I always wanted to hear as a child. Obviously it was one thing to talk about how I felt, but to accept genuine help? Slow your horses! This threw me in a loop. I was really bothered that I had this subconscious block that prohibited me from allowing her to help me, but two months later she tried again and I accepted. I knew this was a valuable lesson in vulnerability and self-compassion for me.
The day before I was really stressed. My stomache is where my stress resides and it burnt me inside out. I thought that her coming over was motivation enough to do it myself, but it wasn‘t. I was paralyzed and powerless. I‘ve managed to do the worst bits, because I still thought showing my current state would impact how she thought of me. Morning came, I picked her up from the bus station and we went to my place. She made no comment, no fuzz, she asked what I needed in that moment and laid out a plan on where to start. She‘s done the dishes, the part I was most anxious about letting her do. I‘ve done some laundry and vacuumed in the meantime. I was so stressed the entire time, because it was so new to me.
We‘re not finished, I am not finished, but I am beyond grateful. This place hasn‘t looked this nice in a long time, even though it‘s still far from ideal. I couldn‘t have done it without her. Turns out my shame was uncalled for and that accepting help is actually a good thing. Who would‘ve thought! It‘s okay not to be hyper-independent, it‘s okay to accept help and it‘s okay to be vulnerable.

2024.04.30 22:52 Outrageous-Good376 Painting furniture? (Art)
I’m thinking about painting some cheap furniture now just repainting but painting designs on them- do pieces like this actually sell? Would eBay be the best place or elsewhere?

2024.04.30 16:21 Advanced-Pie-Machine What are some things you'd spend disposable income on if you had it?
For me it's:
Therapy! I could certainly benefit from some existential counselling as I hit my mid life crisis years.
Going out to eat. I have had two sit down restaurant meals since 2019. Honestly surprised any are left.
Holidays in the UK. I'd love to see what all the fuss is about these wonderful places like the lake district, the Yorkshire dales, the moors, Cornwall, the welsh mountains, Scottish lochs and the highlands. Apparently the UK is actually really beautiful!
New clothes/furniture. I basically just shop vinted/FB marketplace/ebay.
Pay someone to help me deep clean the house.
A robot vacuum cleaner!

2024.04.30 09:03 Nero2011 Beginner tools
Hi all
So I'm looking to get into some leather work as a hobby.
I've bought some leather scraps (quite thin and flexible, furniture leftovers I quess). Just to practice cutting and so on.
My goal is to make various small items like, case for a knife/leatherman, Watchstrap, Axe sheat and maybe a wallet or a card holder.
I have a cutting map and a metal ruler, a heavy duty box knife, exacto knife and a scapel. I also have an awl and thats about it.
I've read to avoid ebay beginner sets and maybe buy a few but better tools.
Can anyone recommend a good mid-tier supplier of tools. I've been looking into WUTA leather after reading some reviews.
Also I'm a bit confused about the difference between pricking irons and punching irons/chisel (I was planing on getting a 3mm set of some sort to have some all-around tool). All above on a bit of a budget.
I'm based in europe.
Any feedback on essential tools and where to get them would be much appreciated. Thanks

2024.04.29 05:07 lizcopic Unfucking a whole house. Advice from a loving friend who’s great at organizing & wants to help.
Long, but comprehensive & caring.
Helping a veteran friend who’s like my Auntie unfuck her house for a few weeks now, so she can finally move away from the heat of AZ (that’s bad for her health), and I’m almost done! The end of the miscellaneous boxes is almost near!
Here’s the circumstances & how I approached them:
- house full of boxes and furniture in complete disarray because they quickly packed and moved everything out of the way to pull out the floors, and have all the walls painted to sell the house
- some boxes logically filled with like things of all kitchen stuff, or family photos; but some boxes are complete random wtf family heirlooms with kitchen and office and literal junk (packed by auntie’s friend who means well, and has helped tremendously since auntie isn’t able, but she isn’t the most organized person, and had limited time before construction, so she did the best she could and is totally forgiven)
- boxes from when auntie lived in lots of fun different places around the world (active military & after), boxes from her late mother, and her late husband, and sister, and the old lady who lived here before.
- organizing is my best skill, which I was a little sad about when I was younger because it’s not an exciting skill like singing or astrophysics, but I’ve learned different fun uses of my organization, like producing films, and event planning; and I’m always happy to help with a worthy mission; plus I’ve never been to this part of the country before, so I thought of it as a fun adventure of organizing a whole house in a far off mysterious land.
Here’s how I unfucked it all:
First things first, clear out one corner or closet, or already mostly empty space in one room to make your special keepers spot. Preferably a room or closet close to where you’ll load / move from, but out of sight, so potential buyers of the “for sale” items don’t see / want / be obnoxious about things that are not for sale, because they are special keepers. Maybe it starts with a small closet or corner, and as you get through more of the house it moves to larger spot, don’t fret about moving the keepers spot more than once, just be happy that it’s all sorted & ready to go.
Next clean out a spot that’s easily accessible for guests to make the “for sale” spot, I designated the garage, and cleaned off the good keep metal shelves that were in different spots of the house to put down the one wall of the garage instead, to put all the garage sale stuff on, and moved all the keep or miscellaneous stuff out of the garage to sort later. You don’t have to go this far yet of moving all non-sale out yet, or moving shelves, that’s just what I was able to do with the space and things I was given. If all you can do for now is make a lil 4x4 spot designated “for sale” boxes, start there and that’s still a huge win to know that it has a spot. Don’t fret! You’ll get there!
The next step is the hardest, but you’ll feel so much better when it’s done. Trash, Laundry, and Dishes. Apologies to your power bill, water bill, and garbage professionals, but you just gotta keep those appliances (hoping you have my favorite invention ever: a dishwasher) running until it’s all done; because it HAS to be washed before getting packed or sold/donated, and it makes a world of difference to not have those 3 things all over the house as you begin to sort more fun things like collectibles or something you love.
As you go through each room clean up & take pics of the big ticket or larger for sale furniture items to put online. Those items go to the sale spot in the house & immediately listed for sale online to get a head start on getting things out of there to make more room, and everything else gets sorted into categories.
To make sorting into categories easier, put boxes around a big table or comfy chair for things of common categories like “keep sewing” or “keep office supplies” or “keep kitchen” or “sale” etc. so when you do get a super random box of everything, it’s easier to sort into the nearby categories. Some keeper delicate things will need to be repacked later before you tape the boxes closed, but at least you know they’re all keepers of a certain type. & Have a big garbage nearby and extra (preferably crappy non-shippable) boxes to put the garage sale stuff in. & I like to sharpie marker the inside of the box flaps of the top so it’s easier for everyone to see what’s in it.
Also recommend sorting everything by general categories before sorting keep / sell / donate. Example: get ALL the shoes together before you sort which ones are to keep, so you know you keep enough formal or casual or which colors or whatever. Same applies to kitchen, and crafts, and everything else like the 5 vacuums. So yes, generally sort into types before you sort what’s to keep, UNLESS you have an emotional reaction to something in one way or the other love/hate, and then immediately put that item in keep or trash.
& yeah it’ll be emotional!!!! She keeps thanking me for helping because I’m impartial to the emotional attachments to the things, and I keep asking her if it’s worth the truck space?, and could we thrift a similar one where she’s moving?, or is it sentimental?, and it’s helping her to let go of a lot of things, or as she puts it “give it’s a lil kiss and thank it for its time and memories before it finds a new home”. And also there’s a lot of emotions of things that she hasn’t seen in years, like her mom’s photo albums, or a painting by Koko the Gorilla that she hasn’t seen in years and thought was lost, nope, I found it in a cupboard in the garage behind a box. I can’t blame her for crying when she saw it again. It was a lot of emotions of knowing that it’s not lost forever, and WTF?! why was it in the garage when I last saw it in the dining room where I was gonna hang it? So yeah, I try to space out emotional boxes for her to sort because I know they need a lil extra time, love, and an easy one like fun shoes or something happy to lighten the mood after, or a break.
& breaks are great! Take them. Play an app game or watch silly videos for 30min & chill before you go back to your brain trying to organize everything & moving around furniture and boxes, your brain and back and knees will thank you for the time out.
If you’re getting a moving van / cube / car topper, measure out a spot somewhere of that square footage & start a pile there to see how much you’re actually moving so you can easily see if it’s too much. & I recommend labeling all the keep boxes color coded rainbow heavy (books) purple at the bottom and red (fragile / do not smush) for the top. Crayons on all the corners, purple at the bottom & work your color way up the rainbow to red at the top corners of the boxes so you don’t smush something important, and it’s easy to load.
Sell big furniture & collectibles online. Facebook marketplace local for furniture and big stuff, but collectibles to a trusted source elsewhere depending on the niche, or maybe eBay and offer shipping to get more money, which might take lots of time.
Garage sale. Don’t expect much. Everyone is downsizing so what it would have got at a similar sale 10-20 years ago is not what it’ll sell for today. Honestly consider anything sold at a garage sale as a bonus extra, and whatever doesn’t sell after two weeks should get donated, or listed for $1-5 online so someone gets a deal & they’ll actually use it. So don’t stress too much about dragging everything outside; keep it simple and accessible, and advertise free on Facebook local sell groups and craigslist.
When you get overwhelmed, which will totally happen when going through a whole house, stop and take a look at the two clean corners of keepers and sale stuff, and how much bigger they’re getting, and be happy with the progress, and know that the rest can get they way too if you just keep moving.
& speaking of keep moving, this past month we’ve had the fun background noise of fun new albums playing in the garage, and Star Trek Deep Space 9 rewatch on the tv in the house, since it’s our comfort show that we don’t have to pay attention to since we’ve seen it so many times, and is fun to chat about to lighten the mood of the frustration of the misc boxes of: why is the huge heavy mortar and pestle in a box of electronics?!? Helps to laugh it off, or bust out singing like you’re in a musical. Being pissed about it is only going to ruin part of your day, and laughing it off of belting out a musical which makes you laugh, it’s a great peaceful release that is scientifically proven to make most brains happier.
Hopefully a little of this helped you find a way to approach your unique situation.
Best of luck to you all, and if you need a second opinion or more specific organizing advice, message me, I’m happy to help.
If you’ve read this far, Digital Hugs from the one and only - Liz Copic
Edit to add: yes I have my friend’s permission to post all this, even the emotional stuff, and she knows that I post as real me Liz Copic, and she doesn’t care. No Regrets for honesty. Qowat Milat Star Trek style.
