1999 - Judge Mario Frigenti, in Rome ruled that Michael, in composing his song "Will You Be There,'' plagiarized an Italian songwriter. The judge immediately suspended a $2,200 fine, but ordered Michael to pay court costs (which could be high as the case has taken four years to pass through court).
Singer & songwriter Al Bano first claimed Jackson stole part of the musical motif to his song "I Cigni Di Balka (The Swans Of Balaka)" in 1993. The trial began two years later.
Michael said he has never met Bano & had never heard of his song until the suit was brought. His lawyers argued simple similarity did not constitute plagiarism.
The court heard an expert say that 37 notes were the same in each song.
One of Michael's lawyers, Alberto Seganti, said he will appeal. "There is no proof of plagiarism". In a hearing in Rome two years ago Michael told the court there was some similarity between the two songs, "but it's completely coincidental."
After the verdict, Al Bano invited Jackson to join him in performing a concert for the children of Kosovo.
"The criminal court's ruling was groundless and a travesty," Jackson's copyright lawyer Eve Wagner said at that time. "The criminal court had not only ignored the previous rulings by six other judges in Jackson's favor but also the opinion of the court's own expert that there was 'no possibility of plagiarism.'"
In the previous year, Bano lost a civil case for copyright infringement against Jackson & was ordered to pay expenses. Bano has also brought numerous civil cases against Jackson but has failed to win any of them.
In the past, Michael has been cleared of plagiarism allegations in the United States involving his Dangerous and Thriller albums.
In March of 2001, a Rome appeals court overturns the lower court’s decision, clearing Michael of plagiarism allegations.
2005 - Trial Day 51
Michael goes to court with Katherine & Joe

2008 - Dr Tohme calls Tom Barrack to wire $23 million in order to save Neverland from a foreclosure auction. In exchange Barrack and his company, Colony Capital received 50% ownership of Neverland.
In a press release, Michael stated:
“I am pleased with recent developments involving Neverland Ranch and I am in discussions with Colony and Tom Barrack with regard to the Ranch and other matters that would allow me to focus on the future"
2009 - AEG issues a press release to officially announce Kenny Ortega as the show producer. Along with the press release is a new picture of Michael & Ortega during the rehearsals.
The streets of Hollywood are buzzing; Michael Jackson mania is in full swing 5,500 miles away from The O2 arena – the home of his historic 50 concerts this summer.
Kenny Ortega, the renowned Director, Producer, Choreographer and creative talent is hard at work collaborating with Michael Jackson in the overall design and direction for the upcoming ‘This Is It’ concert shows. Ortega previously worked on Michael Jackson’s Dangerous and HIStory tours, some of the most spectacular shows ever staged. Last week, thousands of dancers flew in from every corner of the globe including Japan, Australia, South America and Europe to audition for Jackson and Ortega – all of them were chasing their dream of winning a spot to perform on stage with their idol Michael Jackson.
Even after the selection process narrowed the competition from thousands of submissions to over five hundred top international dancers, there was still no dance space large enough in Los Angeles or New York to house the auditions. The producers ended up booking LA’s Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE, part of the site where the Grammy Awards are held each year, to handle the unprecedented numbers of performers who flocked to these auditions.
Ortega, having once been in partnership with Gene Kelly, is most recently known for his work as the Director and Choreographer of Disney’s, High School Musical 1, 2 & 3. Ortega also Produced and Directed the Barbra Streisand’s Millennium concert tour and is a two time Emmy award winner for his work as Director and Choreographer of the 2002 Winter Olympics opening and closing ceremonies in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In receiving the phone call from Michael to lead the team, Ortega said, “My answer without a beat was nothing could keep me away. Collaborating with Michael on the Dangerous and HIStory tours were two of the greatest creative experiences of my life, to be invited to partner with him again is a dream come true. Working with Michael is always a true and full partnership, he is a creative mastermind, he assembles top professionals to lead his team and then inspires each and every one of us to climb to new places, break out of the box and conquer new challenges. He is the most significant artist and entertainer of our generation.”
“This Is It” is a spectacular concert experience incorporating iconic Jackson songs and choreography mixed with original new works. Ortega says, “Our show goals are to create more than a concert but a complete theatrical musical experience with a dynamic balance that features Jackson in both spectacular production and intimate settings. The stage set, choreography, costumes, lighting, effects and overall production will be of the highest standard and pushing the state of the art.” Michael is dedicated to every detail and aspect of the show working closely with his creative and talented production team. He is “tremendously excited” about sharing his stage show with hundreds of thousands of fans this summer in London. Ortega goes on to say, “It has been over a decade since Michael and I worked on the HIStory tour together. We had been in discussion in the last couple of years about finding a new project to work on. When I got the call to join him for these concerts I was in-between gigs, catching my breath. I had just finished a World Press tour for High School Musical and was about to start a new film. In accepting the invitation I had to move a few mountains to clear my schedule, but I’m thrilled to say I’m fully on board.”
Casting is in final stages for dancers and the band. The dedication, passion and determination of these performers, who are all personally inspired by Michael Jackson brings an unprecedented intensity to the stage. Michael Jackson, The King of Pop, has influenced a generation of performers through his music, dance and stage shows impacting an art form. This week with rehearsals in full swing the impossible has become possible as details to this complex and dramatic show are being put together. And when moments get intense and exciting in rehearsals an age-old British tradition has been adopted – a tea break!
Ortega adds, “I go to work each day with a huge sense of joy just knowing what is in-store. Michael, the team and I will hash out a creative idea, we’re ready to implement it and Michael will say let’s sleep on it. The next day he is back in studio raising the bar to the next level and pushing us further for greater dynamic results.” Randy Phillips, President & CEO of AEG Live, commented, “The unprecedented demand for these shows turned a normal public on sale into a cultural phenomenon and pushed the boundaries by which we measure success. Michael and Kenny are creating an escapist adventure that will take the audience on an entertainment experience only imagined in dreams or big budget motion pictures. This is the perfect pairing on unique creative talents with the greatest repertoire in contemporary music.”
Ortega concludes, “I am looking forward to the creative days ahead as we build a Michael Jackson experience like no other, and to ultimately arriving at The O2 - a magnificent venue and a worldly place. I am thrilled to be a part of the team that once again is bringing Michael Jackson, the greatest entertainer of our generation, back to the stage and into the light and love of his devoted fans.” By the end of the 50 concerts, 1 million fans will have witnessed one of the greatest musical events in history. This will be the last chance to see the King of Pop in London in what will be a historic stage show, and once in a lifetime concert experience - this really is it!
Note To Editors – One of the world’s most popular entertainers, Michael Jackson has sold over 750 million units worldwide and is one of the very few artists to be inducted twice into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Guinness Book of World Records has recognised Michael Jackson as the Most Successful Entertainer of All Time and Thriller as The Biggest Selling Album of All Time. Jackson won 13 Grammy Awards and received the American Music Award’s Artist of the Century Award.
Michael's This Is It 50 concerts sold out in a matter of hours on March 13th smashing box office records.

2024.05.12 04:38 GPTSportsWriter Arsenal VS Manchester United Prediction 2024-05-12 11:30:00-04:00

Arsenal vs Manchester United: A Battle of Grit and Wits

On a day that promises to be as unpredictable as the British weather, two of football's most storied clubs, Arsenal and Manchester United, prepare to lock horns in a clash that's more hotly anticipated than a royal wedding. The date is May 12, 2024, and as the clock ticks towards 11:30 AM Eastern Time, fans around the globe are on the edge of their seats, their fingernails bitten down to nubs in nervous anticipation.

The Odds Are In, But Are They Right?

The bookmakers have spoken, and they're singing a tune sweeter to the ears of Arsenal fans than the latest Adele ballad. With odds sitting at a rather confident 1.37 for an Arsenal win, compared to a long-shot 7.0 for Manchester United, it seems the bookies are ready to bet their grandmothers on the Gunners taking home the spoils (DraftKings; FanDuel). But as any seasoned punter will tell you, the only sure thing in football is that there are no sure things.

The Theatre of Dreams or Nightmares?

Manchester United, the once indomitable force of English football, now find themselves cast as David in a tale where Goliath is heavily favored. But could this be the stage for a plot twist? With odds of 7.0, they're the underdogs that could make a few bettors very happy should they pull off a coup at Old Trafford. The draw, sitting at a coy 5.75 (DraftKings) or 5.7 (FanDuel), whispers the possibility of a stalemate, but let's be honest, nobody's tuning in for a draw.

The Arsenal Armada

Arsenal, riding high on the wings of confidence, are not just a team; they're a well-oiled machine, a symphony in cleats, a collective force that's been steamrolling over opponents with the grace of a ballet dancer and the precision of a Swiss watch. Their recent form is as impressive as the Queen's Guard, unflinching and unwavering. But will they maintain their composure when faced with the Red Devils?

The Red Devil's Advocate

Manchester United, on the other hand, are the enigma wrapped in a riddle, shrouded in mystery. They've been known to oscillate between the sublime and the ridiculous, sometimes within the span of 90 minutes. But underestimate them at your peril, for they possess the firepower to turn a game on its head faster than you can say "Sir Alex Ferguson."

The Weather Factor

As for the weather, it's expected to be as British as fish and chips, with a chance of rain that could turn the pitch into a slip 'n slide extravaganza. This could be the great equalizer, the wildcard that turns would-be goals into comedic pratfalls.

The Verdict

So, who will emerge victorious in this titanic tussle? Will it be the Gunners, blasting their way to glory, or will the Red Devils conjure up some of that old magic and pull off an upset that would have the bookies weeping into their ledgers?
Drumroll, please...
The prediction is Arsenal. Yes, the odds are in their favor, but it's more than that. It's the swagger with which they've been dispatching teams, the steel in their spine, and the fire in their belly. Manchester United may have the history, but Arsenal has the form, and in the unforgiving world of football, the present trumps the past.
So, there you have it, folks. Arsenal to win, with all the certainty of a London bus being late. But remember, this is football, and if it were predictable, it would be called lawn bowling.
And as for references, well, the odds were provided by our friends at DraftKings and FanDuel, who are always there to give us a glimpse into the future, even if it's as murky as a London fog.
References:
Now, go forth and watch the drama unfold, and may the odds be ever in your favor, unless you're a Manchester United fan, in which case, may the force be with you.

2024.05.11 02:56 mrselfdestruct1999 Jimmy Cuervo full costume pcis??

Hi so i unironically really like the outfit for Jimmy in the crow 4 and kind of wanted to wear a cosplay of him to see the crow rerun in theatres this month but i cant find any full pics of the costume, from what i see he has a long cloth trenchcoat, not a leather one, and his shirt underneath has these feathers on them. The wrapping around his hands isnt electrical tape but also looks to be a cloth material. And not to mention the obvious choker that makes him look like a goth chick but its fiiine its fiine im a goth chick its fine!!
Anyway im trying to comb through scenes on youtube but the movie is hot garbage and i keep cringing every two lines and its really hard to find a full costume pic. Anyway if anyone miraculously has a full costume pic or a diagram it would be much appreciated. Ill make sure to post pics when i do cosplay Jimmy!!

2024.05.08 19:47 Dragon_OS [Online] [CST] [Other] [Text-based] [LGBT+ Friendly] [Noob Friendly] [Roleplay-Focused] Looking for players wanting to tell a story for a chill theatre-of-the-mind game in a custom magitek setting.

I'm looking for 4-5 players, but that can be negotiated with to help create a fun experience for everyone. Looking to play on Fridays or Saturdays starting at 6PM to 7PM and lasting until 9PM or 10PM. I suggest being an adult when you apply, but its not absolutely required as the general vibe will be chill with occasional mature or dark moments.
We will be playing in defined sessions on Discord with a priority on text-based roleplay. Voice chat will be optional but recommended as we will have a music bot and use the voice channel for questions and out-of-character discussion. We will be using a theatre-of-the-mind system with dice rolls to spice things up. Roleplay will be the main priority but combat will also be in play later on in the story. If you want a game where you can focus on telling a story with your character, this might be the thing for you. It will take place in a custom setting of my own creation. It should be noted that I am a relatively new DM, so there will be some growing pains, but the sample groups I have worked with in the past confirmed it is a positive experience. The setting is a near-future alternate timeline of Earth where magic made itself known to the world in the year 2021 for unknown reasons. This causes North America to unite against magic, discriminating against it in both a social and legal manner as they view magic as a threat to national security. You will be playing a group of magic users in a resistance effort to help prevent a civil war between the magic and mundane worlds. More details are available if you DM me on Reddit or Discord. The overall themes of the story will be like a blend of Fallout, Lovecraft, folklore, Tolkien and other fantasy topics. I prefer to keep real-world politics out of my games to keep a friendly environment for everyone involved. My games are LGBT+ friendly with a variety of tones. This includes some darker themes that will be discussed with the group prior to their occurence in the campaign. If you would like to sign up, contact me on Reddit or dragon_os on Discord. ---- In late 2021, the world was forever changed when supernatural forces from cultures around the globe revealed themselves to humanity. 2024.05.05 22:26 SerFreke Fate - Extra CCC's "Id_es" if used on the merged perks of "Promised Victory" from God Save the Queen and "Knight of Owner" from Garden of Avalon

Id_es:
How dirty. Not even pretending you’re following the rules, are you? It is unclear on how you have obtained such a thing, but now you get the option to obtain one of the so-called “id_es” skills, complete cheats made by transforming and empowering a skill into complete absurdity, to the point they could rightfully be called cheat skills. If you want, you may pick one of the existing id_es skills shown. From Passionlip’s Trash & Crush which can reduce and compress anything at all into a 5x5x5 gray cube, even the mass of the target being reduced to 1/10th of what it was, evolved from the Skill ‘Monstrous Strength’. Perhaps you want the All Drain, which lets Meltryllis absorb anything with a solid form she can inject her “honey” into, stealing the target’s abilities, power, and self, and maybe even turn others into copies of you, evolved from the Skill ‘Absorption’. Perhaps you’ll want Crack Ice, letting Violet completely paralyze anything within her field of sight, although it won’t extend to stopping the minds of your targets.
If you possess some other ability you are fond of, you may choose to transform and empower that ability instead, elevating it into a similar level of absurdity as the examples given. Well, these skills aren’t unbeatable. Meltryllis was defeated by tricking her into absorbing a poison developed from her own virus, and Trash & Crush will take longer than an instant against objects larger than a Sakura Labyrinth floor, so pay attention to what kind of id_es you obtain, and keep in mind any weaknesses.
And the two other Perks
Knight of Owner:
As a manifestation of incredible fighting feats and achievements, a true warrior’s power has appeared in your hands. The representation of a knight and fighter without compare, this special ability immediately affects anything you come into contact with and perceive primarily as a weapon of some kind. It spreads an aura through and around the weapon, in two colours of your choice, and even as a base effect it will let you achieve an instant and natural mastery of the use of that weapon, like it was a favoured weapon that you’d wielded for many years on the battlefield. Beyond that skill, it also enchants anything affected to be a fairly powerful magical tool. While they’re far from an Excalibur, the enchantments are still quite useful, allowing the weapons to possess unnatural durability or fire magical blasts of significant power. Even a gun might find each bullet now possessing enough power to meaningfully harm some supernatural foes.
Knight of Owner has no size limitation on what it can affect, so long as you see it and everything within that might be affected as a weapon first. Even a jet fighter or battleship can be affected, with your weaponizing aura allowing you to control affected vehicles by thought alone. Lastly, the power will also override control over things that would normally have special requirements for you to use, such as a Noble Phantasm that only the wielder can use via magical rules, a gun that is DNA-locked to specific people or just a car that you need a key for.
And
Promised Victory:
There’s no shame in adoring the legend of King Arthur. A famous tale known across the globe and for good reason. That shining knight symbolised victory to all who fought on the battlefield, particularly so to their English descendants, and nowhere is that more purely expressed than the golden sword Excalibur. Your own obsession with the Once and Future King was such that it called on part of this legend, the myth of the sword, and made it part of your very being.
Any tool you hold can become Excalibur. Or at least, a version of it. The golden sword manifests at your command from your weapon, be it a stick or a sword of great magical power in it’s own right. It works almost identically to the holy sword, able to convert magical energy into greatly magnified heat and light, resulting in an annihilating laser blast or slash. The quality of Excalibur will depend on the base tool you used to manifest it and many tools will crumble from the strain. A stick’s maximum power could still split thick trees in two before turning to ash but a sturdy sword might leave a large theatre ruined from a half hearted slash of light. The limitation is that, as mighty as your power can be, it can never truly match the original Excalibur’s scale, even with the greatest of base tools.
The two were Merged with this perk from Bastard!!
C-C-C-COMBOOOO!!!:
You have the ability to combine any innate talents, powers, skills, etc… that you possess, like the Handsome Heroic Shonen Protagonist Dark Schneider himself. You want to defeat enemy gods and absorb their powers into you to increase your own and then use their heads to cast multiple spells at once, you can. Want to combine multiple martial arts (magic/supernatural and normal) into one, go ahead you get all of strengths and none of the weaknesses. Do you want to combine you spiritual, ki, and magical energies into one single source greater than the sum of its parts go ahead. Do you want to combine the effects of multiple perks that into one perk that encompasses them all and is as powerful as their combined effects you can do that. With some practice you may be able to combine things that are not innate to your being such as magic and technology, two weapons, or two types of clarke-tech together into a stronger whole.
I know the proper answer is pretty much "Whatever I please" but I'm just looking for some ideas here on how this would work, Id_es and their base skills sometimes confuse me on how they would connect so this is making me not sure how I should do this and wanting any ideas you might have.

2024.05.02 18:54 Wanderingjes Hear ye! Kindly help this dumb American personalize a tiered list for wandering around London

Greetings I've decided to explore London as a place of 'rest' between all of the hiking I'll be doing in Iceland and the Dolomites. I say rest, but really I'll probably end up walking 24-32km/day. The main purpose of my visit however involves the British Museum, where I'll probably spend a few hours of each day I'm there (September 16-23 -- 6 full days!). Obviously it would take a lifetime to properly explore London but with less than a week, I'd appreciate the help in slimming/moving around my potential activities outside of the BM. Rather than inundating you with the generic daily itinerary, I've created a preliminary tiered List -- this allows for me to be incredibly flexible and never having to feel rushed or marking things off like a checklist. Outside of the BM, I'd like to prioritize exploration on foot and people watching. Apologies for this long introduction!
First, some random questions:
  1. Best areas to be when I'm feeling peckish (first time I've ever used this word)? Could be nice to choose a random restaurant rather than googling for something specific or looking at a list of 'must-try-foods'
  2. Where can i get a proper beans on toast? I'd like my fist to be in London
  3. If it happens to be raining heavily, would it be peculiar if i wore an entire waterproofed outfit rather than using an umbrella? I'll have my gear from Iceland, including goretex hiking boots.
  4. Any interesting things to see in zones 4-6?
  5. I love visiting markets, but those in London feel very generic to me. Are there any truly worth visiting?
  6. Your favorite places to enjoy golden hour + Sunset?: I have sky garden, primrose hill and the royal observatory on my list.
And my tiered list!:
S Tier: I've defaulted all walks to this tier. Admittedly, I could have done more research into how to prioritize the walks but it would remove the joy of discovering interesting things organically. That's where you all come in!
A Tier:
C Tier: On the fence
Definitely won't go, am I wrong?
Tourist Activities I will do for sure:
I visited London as a teenager back in 2004 so I've seen the Buckingham Palace, Windsor, etc. I'm not all that interested in the Royal Stuff. Anyway, thank you all in advance!

2024.05.01 12:54 UhOhIShitted Sticky situation with director, need some advice

I'll try to keep this brief, though I'll probably fail at that lol.
Long story short, I'm a junior (about to be a senior) at a small University in the southern US. My high school didn't have a theatre program, so my first show was my freshman year of college. I immediately fell in love with it. I've been in a show every year since, playing a lead role in my last two productions. However, we have so little interest in the theatre department that we often have super low turnout for auditions. Turnout is so low that we feasibly couldn't do a show that requires an ensemble. All that said, here's the current issue:
Our director is the only theatre professor on campus. He has recently divulged to the president of our theatre club (who happens to be my romantic partner) that he will no longer be doing plays at the university after the conclusion of this semester, if he stays at the university at all. He has made such threats to leave in the past, though he is being much more secretive about it than usual this time around, so we all think it might be true this time. I am honestly not that upset about the fact that he's no longer doing shows due to some problematic interactions and behaviors, but it puts all the actors in a bind. If he leaves, we intend on trying to somehow turn the plays into a more student-run thing, if possible. This is, of course, assuming that the university doesn't hire a replacement. What we've all noticed, though, is that this shit ain't cheap. At all. From the looks of things, the funding would be significantly reduced without the professor, and none of us have any experience directing or coordinating a show. This is obviously a sticky situation, especially given the limits of our cast size and budget. Does anybody have any advice on how to approach this situation, should it come to pass?
Secondly, we have absolutely no clue what to do if he does stay. Half the theatre department is trans, while the other half is queer in some way, and he has very clearly been transphobic and homophobic to me and my partner. As a few examples:
The list goes on. The obvious solution would be to report him to Title IX or some other such institute, but that has its own issues. This professor is the most well-liked professor on campus. If word got out about such an accusation, the entire student body would be livid. Additionally, we are in the South. I don't trust the Title IX department to be fully impartial with their judgements, given the political climate of the area, and the general public perception of this professor. He appears completely supportive and accepting. All of this behavior was originally taken as "he's old, he's trying his best" by me and my partner. It wasn't until recently that we fully realized the gravity of what was being said, and I am near positive that most of the student body wouldn't care even if they knew the specifics, let alone if they didn't. Needless to say, many of us are not excited at the thought of potentially working under him again. Even if he doesn't do shows but remains on campus, we're all a bit paranoid to start doing shows of our own due to the potential public reaction.
If anyone has any advice on how to proceed, I'm all ears. The help will be absolutely invaluable. Most of this should, hopefully, simplify itself before next semester, but it's never a bad idea to plan ahead. Thank you all so much!

2024.04.30 00:22 _Revelator_ Clarkson's Columns: My harvest hymn & An interview with Clarkson and Caleb

My harvest hymn — with added Chinese chemicals
By Jeremy Clarkson (The Sunday Times, April 28)
Many of us will remember that Mungo Jerry song featuring the line, “Have a drink, have a drive. Go out and see what you can find.” And of course we all realise you can’t even think that any more. And nor, really, is it considered acceptable to follow up with: “If her daddy’s rich, take her out for a meal. If her daddy’s poor, just do what you feel.” Times have moved on.
Of course lots of lyrics now feel as if they’re from another aeon. "Clair" by Gilbert O’Sullivan especially. But you might think it’s impossible for the lyrics in a harvest festival hymn to become out of date. “We plough the fields and scatter. The good seed on the land. But it is fed and watered by God’s almighty hand.” Absolute timelessness. It was true ten thousand years ago and it’s true now.
No, it isn’t. God doesn’t water the land any more. The coal-fired Chinese power stations do that. And he doesn’t feed it either. That’s handled by CF Industries, which makes all the chemical fertiliser that farmers use on their fields.
We don’t even scatter seeds any more, because that’s wasteful onanism. We drill them into the ground, at precise intervals and at a precise depth using a computer-controlled, £40,000 seed drill. That’s towed behind a £250,000 Case tractor, which was built in the factory where they used to make Tiger tanks. Not much Goddishness going on in any of that.
There isn’t even any ploughing any more. In the olden days farmers would turn the top layer of soil over using a plough so that the weeds were buried. And because they were deprived of sunlight they died. It was a lovely, natural, rosy-cheeked way of creating the perfect seedbed for the following year’s crop.
But then along came Little Miss Thunberg and her merry band of Packhamites, who decided that 1,500 billion tonnes of carbon is stored in the planet’s soil. And that if you turn this soil over with a plough, all of it will be released into the upper atmosphere in the form of carbon dioxide. Which is bad. So the lovely, natural method of killing weeds had to stop. And instead farmers had to use chemical sorcery from Monsanto, BASF and the Zhejiang Xinan Chemical Industrial Group.
Farmers didn’t mind, if I’m honest, because ploughing is extremely expensive. You simply would not believe how much diesel is needed to drag a two-tonne land anchor through a muddy field. Using weedkiller instead is much cheaper.
Or rather it was. But weedkiller prices have gone up dramatically in recent years. And from where I’m sitting it doesn’t really seem to work any more. Every year Kaleb goes into the fields like a rural Terminator, hosing down the weeds with his ungodly chemical sorcery and then, a few weeks later, Cheerful Charlie walks me through the same fields, pointing out the brome and the black-grass, which is easy to spot because it’s purple and green and completely immune to anything the world’s chemists can throw at it.
So this year Charlie said we should become medieval and plough the fields instead. Selfish? Well, yes, this will shoot a tonne of CO2 into the troposphere and that’s obviously bad. And I’ll use four times more diesel than I would if I used weedkiller. So that’s not good for the environment either. But here’s the kicker: I wouldn’t be pumping any chemicals into the soil.
So that’s the choice — soil or sky? You have to hurt one of them if you want to eat. I went for the sky and rented a plough.
I settled on an eight-furrow monster for two good reasons. Number one: the bigger the plough, the faster you get the job done. And number two: none of Kaleb’s tractors would be powerful enough to pull it, so we’d have to use my 270bhp Lamborghini. Which would annoy him. Even admitting that it’s better than his tractors gives him a hot flush. Sometimes he vibrates with fury when he goes near it.
The only drawback to this cleverly wrought large plough plan was that, because Kaleb refuses to drive my tractor, I’d have to do the ploughing.
This is something I’ve done before. It was on Top Gear about 200 years ago and I did very well. Partly this was because my competitors in the ploughing competition were James May and Richard Hammond. And partly because one of the two judges was a really good friend of my mum.
In real life, though, things were different. I couldn’t hitch the plough to the tractor without help. I couldn’t do a three-point turn when it was attached. And I couldn’t make the tractor move when the furrows were in the sodden soil. All four wheels just sort of spun. So I had to lift the plough slightly, which meant I wasn’t ploughing. Or wiggle the steering wheel, which made big holes and, when it worked, caused me to set off in a new direction. It began to look as if a drunk, blind man with no arms was doing the ploughing.
All the time I was watching the fuel gauge plummet like the depth gauge in a holed submarine, and wondering if it might be cheaper, easier and kinder to the environment to use chemical weedkiller instead.
This is farming. Only last week I discovered that approximately 18 billion slugs have come to live in the fields where I’ve planted spring barley. If I adopt a live-and-let-live rewilding attitude and do nothing they will eat the lot and, next year, there will be no Hawkstone lager. As that makes no sense, I therefore have to pepper the field with slug pellets, which will kill them. Great. But these pellets will also kill all the worms. So what’s the answer? There isn’t one.
Similarly, I have signed up to the government’s eco-friendly grant scheme and will be planting things that aren’t food in three fields. They’re good for the soil and they’re good for my bank balance. But it means I’m not growing stuff people can eat. I know one chap who has taken 60 per cent of his farm out of food production and he’s not alone. So yippee. All that stored carbon and all of that fixed-in nitrogen.
But what if you want some bread? You’ll have to get a loaf made from wheat that was grown abroad. And how’s that good for global warming? And will it have been grown under the same stringent rules that we have here? Or will it have been fertilised with human faeces? You face a choice then. Do you want net zero in the UK? Or do you want to eat a Mexican’s turd?
Do you want lager or worms? Do you want healthy soil or a healthy sky? Do you want bees or orangutans? These are the questions I’m facing every single day. It’s a multiple-choice world of no right answers.
Which brings us back to another harvest festival hymn.
All things bright and beautiful. All birds that must be plucked. No matter what we choose to do, we’re well and truly.

Kaleb Cooper: ‘I’ve taught someone triple my age to do a better job’
The Diddly Squat farmers Jeremy Clarkson and Kaleb Cooper are back for a third series. We put our wellies on to meet the odd couple of the Cotswolds
By Ben Dowell (The Times, April 29)
During filming for the forthcoming third series of Clarkson’s Farm, Kaleb Cooper drove into work and saw Jeremy Clarkson vacuuming a blackberry bush. While the spectacle was “something I am never going to forget”, the sandy-haired, cherub-faced youngster was so unimpressed that he didn’t even get out of his car to ask what was happening.
These two have grown into one of television’s best double acts. For the show’s executive producer, Peter Fincham, there is an “element of Jeeves and Wooster” about them, a delicious odd couple relationship that is all the more gratifying because the team didn’t need to cast Cooper. He was already working on Diddly Squat Farm when the show started.
Cooper is a farmer to the tips of his muddy wellies and has taught Clarkson most of the practical business of farming his 1,000-acre establishment near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire, as well as how hard the job is and the risks farmers take for little financial reward. Cooper may have just completed a sell-out national stage tour building on his popularity and more than two million Instagram followers. He may have been invited to No 10 to meet Rishi Sunak (more on that later), but everyone on the show — the producers, one of Cooper’s “Chippy” friends I spoke to and Clarkson himself — are clear: the 25-year-old hasn’t changed one iota since the show started airing in 2021.
“I think it’s very easy to be grounded if you don’t leave Chipping Norton,” Clarkson says. His girlfriend, Lisa Hogan, who has become another star of the show, agrees. “How Kaleb comes across is exactly how he is. He is very thoughtful and kind and very bright. His use of language is also very easy on the ear. We could have had a monosyllabic tractor driver and that wouldn’t have worked but we were lucky we had Kaleb.”
He has written two books as well: The World According to Kaleb and Britain According to Kaleb, with a third (Life According to Kaleb) on the way. These ruminations are often spoken into a Dictaphone (supplied by his publishers) during the 18 hours he spends each day alone in his happy place, his tractor cab. The books now sit on the shelves that a ten-year-old Cooper and his carpenter father put up in the local bookshop. Though, of course, one of the running jokes in the show is that he has only read one other book in his life apart from his own, and that was one of Clarkson’s.
There is another moment in the new series when Clarkson and Cooper (who are in competition with each other across the eight episodes) are working a field when they spy someone in the distance on another tractor drilling “his” field. He is Andy Cato of the electronic pop duo Groove Armada, and Cooper seems totally nonplussed, not least because he doesn’t know who or what Groove Armada is. The same probably goes for many of his near-neighbours, who include Joe Wicks, Simon Cowell, Natalie Imbruglia, David Beckham and Amanda Holden. When Cooper bumped into David Cameron (now Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton) in a local eaterie, he wasn’t quite sure who he was either. Strangely Cooper is now as famous as at least a few of these people. His appeal extends across the globe — Andy Wilman, Clarkson’s old Top Gear producer who edits the show, tells me that he rarely hears an English accent in the farm shop as tourists flock to see their agricultural idols.
Since Clarkson’s Farm aired, Cooper told his theatre audiences, he has been offered snazzy haircuts from top-level salons, perhaps to stop the constant mickey-taking from Clarkson. But he still goes to the same local hairdresser.
Brilliant moments are not always captured by the cameras and while the team may wake up with plans, farmers and the show’s fans will know that the weather often has other ideas. “Cheerful” Charlie Ireland, the farm’s land agent and adviser, does pop by a couple of times a day, as he does in the series, often to pour cold water on Clarkson’s latest schemes. But many of these moments are not filmed. Is that annoying?
“Sometimes you think, ‘Oh, that would be really good, that’d be funny on TV,’ but actually [the cameras] are not there,” Cooper says. “But you don’t say these things, to make it up for the TV. I may have taken drama in school, but I got a U in it, so actually I’m not an actor.”
Clarkson agrees: “It is [effortless] because I don’t have to pretend to be someone else. With The Grand Tour, Richard Hammond isn’t as stupid as he’s made out. I’m not as bombastic as is made out and James May isn’t quite as boring as he’s made out. And so you’re playing a caricature, you’re playing a role, you’re there to provoke and be stupid. Here, we haven’t got any of that. So we’re just ourselves. You get up and you just have to be yourself, which is incredibly relaxing. And in that regard it is effortless. Farming is not effortless. Make no mistake, the television side of it is a piece of cake because I don’t have to think, ‘Oh I’d better say something idiotic now.’”
“You do that anyway,” Cooper says.
The two bicker in exactly the same way off camera as they do on. At the press conference for the new series they quarrelled with good humour about their dogs. Cooper says Clarkson’s pair of fox-red labradors (named Sansa and Arya after Game of Thrones characters) are “posh man’s dogs” who “never do a thing he says”. Clarkson maintains that Cooper just locks his dog in his tractor cab. They also bicker about the goats Clarkson keeps. Clarkson likes their eyes and thinks they do a good job mowing his grass. Cooper thinks he should breed and slaughter them in the conventional way and sell goat meat in the farm shop.
There is a similar clash of approaches over the pigs. Cooper doesn’t get as emotional as Clarkson and Hogan when things go wrong (and they do go wrong with the pigs this series). When Clarkson holds aloft a newborn piglet, Cooper calls him a “proud parent”, which feels part mickey-take, part genuinely warm compliment — a common theme in their complex relationship.
Clarkson is learning to be more steely and is, Cooper says, actually now a “good pig farmer”. Is the younger man pleased that Clarkson has come on? Or is there a bit of him who would still enjoy showing him the ropes?
“I think there’s a bit of a proudness of teaching someone maybe triple my age … to go out and do a better job … Hopefully I’ve taught him a lot about it. But he’s taught me so much equally about the television industry.” In fact, Cooper says, he has learnt so much that he cannot watch TV now because he knows how it all works behind the scenes.
He is a voice for farmers, showing us how hard the job of people who put food on our table is, and demanding that we respect it. Cooper has arranged two bursaries of £3,000 plus a work placement for young farmers and is keen that more enter a profession where the average age is 59. When he met Sunak last May he was more interested in the PM’s hair than anything, principally because he didn’t expect much from him.
“Let’s put it this way. If someone invited me tomorrow to go to a farm … if I go to that farm and that farmer says to me, ‘Kaleb, you know what, this week I’m gonna plough that field,’ I know for a damn fact that that farmer is going to go out there and plough that field because he said he’s going do it. If the prime minister or anyone from politics goes to me, ‘Kaleb, I’m going to do this next week,’ they’re not going to do it, are they?”
While he doesn’t have much faith in our legislators making life easier for hard-pressed farmers or for supermarkets to pay them more, he must be pleased that people, especially city folk, now know about farming thanks to him, I say.
“Yeah, everyone knows what a tramline is now, right? And let’s face it, I always say this: it doesn’t matter what phone you’ve got, what car you’ve got, what house you’re living in, what matters the very most is what’s coming across your plate for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And therefore that is the most important thing to me.”
Cooper is open to offers of shows such as I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! but thinks he probably won’t have the time with all the work he has to do. Clarkson called him “easily the most entrepreneurial person I have ever met” and he is laser-focused on his ultimate goal of having a farm one day, which will have to be local, despite the “extortionate” price of land in the area.
“I want to farm here,” he says. “I don’t want to move away from my family and everything I know. This is where I was brought up and this is where I’m going to stay.”
But the show will be with us for a while. It is hugely popular — series four is being filmed and while viewing figures aren’t available, it is believed to be Prime’s most popular programme in the UK by, well, a country mile.
Cooper is engaged to his partner, Taya (mother to their three-year-old son and ten-month-old daughter), but doesn’t know when he will have time to walk down the aisle. He knows he will “have a great party”, and isn’t yet sure if Clarkson will be his best man. But one thing’s for sure, Clarkson has already found his.
The new series of Clarkson’s Farm is on Prime Video from May 3.

No Sun column this week, but the Guardian (!) has published a long interview with Clarkson: "'Dismissing global warming? That was a joke': Jeremy Clarkson on fury, farming and why he’s a changed man". Let me know if you have problems viewing it.
Clarkson's columns are regularly collected as books. You can buy them from his boss or your local bookshop.

2024.04.29 19:47 Captain-Rupan The World, Races, Devil Fruits, and the Moon (Big Theory)

This theory is as big as the One Piece World, but I will try to make it simple and leave the rest for you to discover.
My theory is that the World of One Piece is ending Naturally, and it should, because that is the natural order of the world, nothing can stop it. This theory will try to build a structure of the History of One Piece since life started on the Planet of One Piece, including Kingdoms of Life, Continents, and Races.
This Theory is based on Theosophy and some Ancient Legends, before we link things with One Piece, there is some basics you need to understand. I will try to make this as simple as possible.

Chains and Rounds

Globes

Root Races

On Globe D of planet Earth, there are 7 Root Races of human civilization and evolution that comes one after the other. In each Root Race, a new race of humanity is emerged, and for each race there is a Continent on Earth. Every Root Race has seven sub-races, but we will not go deep into them.
Here is what is known about the previous 4 Root Races which preceded our "Adamic Race" and their Continents:
Each of these races and their worlds are periodically destroyed by Fire (volcanoes and earthquakes) and Water, and then renewed for the next race. "The different masses of land sink and resurface cyclically. The shift of continents is connected with a change in the axis of the Earth and an inversion of the poles"
This means that at the end of each Root Race, a World spanning cataclysm will happen. And after each cataclysm the whole World is changed geologically. And then, "each parts of the continents of one root-race become incorporated into the continental system of the next."
However, there is something special about the continent of the first race, The Imperishable Sacred Land. This continent remains unaffected by all these cataclysms. "Because it is the only one whose destiny it is to last from the beginning to the end...throughout each Round."
Sub-Races of each root race propagate and reproduce, creating new generations and variations of life forms. "There is always an overlap between two successive Root Races, the fourth began to gradually develop during the middle portion of the third". Rumors say that there was a thermonuclear war for dominance between the Third Race (the Lemurian race) and Forth race (the Atlantean Race).
Now its One Piece time.

One Piece World

If you didnt see the connection to One Piece world yet, let me give it to you.

Races and Continents

The Imperishable Sacred Land is clearly the Holy Land Mary Geoise. It is the safest place in One Piece world. The Polarians are also described as "dark-colored giants that can reduce their height to the size of an average person". Also described as the "Chaya Race" meaning "image or shadow.". And Imu could belong to this race.
Elbaf is Hyperborea. Hyperboreans were also believed to be giants compared to normal humans. The sun rise and set only once a year in Hyperborea, and the Giants in Elbaf celebrate "the death and rebirth of the sun" each year in what is called Winter Solstice Festival. Both Hyperborea and Elbaf share the same Sunny theme.
The Lemurian race went extinct by a natural cataclysm, and that might be the case with the Lunarians in One Piece. The Lunarians in One Piece might also escaped and still be alive in a hidden city. Also both of their names are similar. The hidden city or place that the Lunarians escaped to might even turn out to be Fairy Vearth.
The Atlanteans are said to be "psychic" and used magic, and they were destroyed due to the misuse of their powers. I believe that this race were the people of the Ancient Kingdom in One Piece, and the kingdom was destroyed for defying Nature, not necessarily evil. I think this reason ties with the Devil Fruits. The Devil Fruits are also considered to be "psychic" fruits based on Vegapunk's Theory.
Now what if these dreams or desires are just the results of evolution from the previous Rounds, hopes, dreams, or imaginations of previous life forms brought to this world by the Ancient Kingdom in the shape of fruits? the people of the Ancient Kingdom dont have to be the creators of the Devil Fruits, but they can be the Cause of its appearance by altering the "Life Wave".
"Anything that man can imagine is a possibility in reality"Willy Karen

End of the World & The Will of D

Based on the Kingdoms of Life in each globe that I mentioned before, we can see that the human evolution starts from D to G, the latter being more celestial beings. D in One Piece might just refer to normal humans, and Imu might be the first born or the first to emerge from Globe G to D in the Final Round, and this Final Round might be where the One Piece events are happening now. Where the barriers between dimensions are less rigid. Also the D might refer to "Dimensional" since most of the D holders can hear the Voice of All Things, they can hear the consciousness of things that live in another dimension.
Now I mentioned before that the humans, Globe (D) is considered to be on the lowest level metaphysically. But what if we turn it upside down? the D will be on the top. Is this is what roger meant by turning the world upside down?

Planets and the "Earth" of One Piece

Now lets say you are on Earth and learned that the fate of Earth is to end on the 7th round, and the "life wave" will move to another planet. What is the solution if you want to live forever? the solution is to link all the planets together, and I think this is what happened many years ago, and I think this linking is reflected in the Flag of the World Government. If the entire world of One Piece is basically 5 planets, this means that there should be 5 North Poles, which could somehow explain the strange behavior of the compass in One Piece, the Log Pose. Now imagine 5 North poles changing after a cataclysm at the end of each Root Race.

Devil Fruits

I think the Devil Fruits can give the user abilities from different dimensions/globes that belong to other life forms consciousness in different dimensions and even from previous rounds/cycles of existance. This is might also be hinted at here when Morgan talks about the Devil Fruits. Also, the drawing of the Devil Fruits is similar to the World Government flag, but doubled many times. This could be a hint that the Devil Fruits powers are from different dimension and even from entirely different worlds. It is just big and manifold.

The link between Earth and the Moon

I mentioned before that for each planet there is Planetary Chain, and what I mentioned before was all about Earth.
The interesting thing about the Planetary Chain of the Moon, also called the Lunar Chain is that it is considered to be the previous chain of the Earth chain. Meaning that it was before like “Planet Earth”, and after the Lunar Chain completed the seven rounds, it died, the “Life Wave” was transferred to the current Earth in what is known as reincarnation.
Now this is how the process of reincarnation rom the Moon to Earth works: Life is transferred from the Moon Chain to the Earth Chain globe by globe, one after the other (from Moon Globe A to Earth Globe A...etc). This means that life forms on Globe D, were once residents of the Moon when life was in the Moon Chain.
This aligns with the story of the "Moon People" in One Piece. The moon people were probably the last of their species and they migrated to Earth when it was time for the Moon to die. This is why Enel didnt find any life forms on the Moon, only Ruins of a City called Birka and Robots.
I will stop here. Thank you for reading.
TLDR: too complex to summarize.
