2024.05.15 17:08 Some_Dealer_9865 Will I be able to use stairs??

Hi everyone. 47 year old female First let me say this subreddit has been helpful. I have a question about stairs.
I had the first surgery in March at my post op the PA said my defect is the one for bending not weight bearing. Which makes sense because stairs and bending down is what gave me issues but walking even post op is pain free most of the time. I can also do an exercise bike without resistance but once I add resistance it becomes painful.
I am not having a lot of pain day to day but I also can’t really work out or run. So I worry about how that effects my health long term i have already gained a little weight since this all started.
I am a high school teacher and a basketball coach so I am on my feet a lot. I am leaning towards the surgery because I like to hike, travel, and run. I can’t really do those things now. The first surgery did provide some relief but I am still limited in some things.
I am leaning towards the surgery but my question is about recovery. I live right outside nyc in row housing which means it is absolutely impossible to avoid stairs. There are 6 to get in the front door and there are no restrooms on the first floor. My bedroom is actually in a finished basement that is about 12 stairs down. There is a bathroom with a walk in shower. I don’t live alone but my roommate has travel plans this summer so I won’t have much help. I am wondering if I should do this over the summer or wait another year to see if I can set up more help. I see the surgeon next Friday and wanted to get some opinions here before then.
Thank you!

2024.05.15 17:07 xXmetalman695Xx Mac Studio Advice?

Tl;dr: I am in need of a new computer and I’m looking at the Mac Studio, specifically the M2 Max with 1TB storage and 64GB memory. Is this going to be enough to keep up with the demands of Logic Pro 11 and all the new plug-ins for the next +/-decade?
Full story: about six years ago, I purchased a refurbished 2014 MacBook Pro. At the time, I wasn’t doing a whole lot of production - I just needed an all-around machine to carry me through my various workflows. Since that time, my home studio has taken off and I’ve been working with a lot more clients. It was on my radar to purchase a nicer desktop that would help me future proof a little better, because LPX (and a few other pieces of my workflow) had begun to start seriously chugging.
Then I met with a client last week, and my nightmare occurred: they spilled water on my MacBook Pro. It’s so old that it’s basically beyond repair, and because of this, I don’t think the client is going to compensate me for the full value of replacing the broken device with one that will do everything I need to. They have agreed to chip in some, but I don’t think it’s going to be a whole lot. With that in mind, my timeline for getting a new device has moved up. I haven’t had the chance to sit down and do a bunch of research on it, so I’m hoping you guys can weigh in.
I’ve been looking at several different options and evaluating my needs, and I think the best-case scenario (albeit one of the more expensive ones) for me in the long run is to switch over from a MacBook to a Mac Studio, and then snag one of the new iPads so I can stay mobile. I wouldn’t have a fully portable workhorse of a computer, but since the majority of my work takes place in the studio, I think this is probably fine, especially if I supplement it with an iPad for the rare instances of offsite recording (it does happen from time to time)z
I have a few questions about this, though; if you guys have answers for any of them, please feel free to share!
  1. Mac Studios currently available have the M2 Pro and M2 Ultra available, whereas the MacBook Pros available now have a base-level M3. It seems that the maxed out M2 might have a higher ceiling than the base model M3? But I’m having a hard time discerning a clear answer. Can anyone speak to the efficiency differences?
  2. I think it’s reasonable to expect about a decade’s worth of use out of a computer? So I’m aiming to purchase a machine that will be somewhat future-proof until the next major advancement. Given the age of the M2 chip, is there any reason to expect that it will date itself more quickly than a device with an M3? Is that something I need to be concerned about?
  3. I’m still undecided on how much unified memory I want, but given my hopes of running many complex projects for multiple clients at once, combined with the other workflows I have for my personal life and my other job, I’ve been looking at picking up 64GB of memory, rather than the 32GN that the Studio has on its base level. Is this a fair amount? I don’t want to overkill, but I want to be set up to have this machine last a long time with (hopefully) little to no issues.
  4. Storage is always a factor to consider. I make it a habit to purchase external drives pretty regularly and back up my projects often, but it’s always nice to be able to operate without having to shuffle files around too much. If I’m honest, I think the 512GB of storage that comes with the base model of the Mac Studio is probably fine, but as my business continues to grow, I don’t want to have as much worry about storing things as much as I do right now. I’ve also read that the 1TB SSD split its file storage between four quadrants of the SSD, whereas the 512GB can only split it between two. It seems that splitting it four ways would help make certain workflows operate a bit more efficiently and that only having two might have the inverse effect. I’ve read a few articles on this, but this isn’t my area of expertise. Does anyone have any experience here?
  5. Finally, the age-old tech question: if I purchase this computer now, well, I regret it in a few months if the new model drops? It seems that Apple’s desktops are due for an upgrade, especially with the M4 chip dropping with the new iPad while the Mac Studio continues to run on M2s. Obviously, nothing has been confirmed about a new generation of Macs being slated for release, but can’t help but wonder if a release is right around the corner. I know it’s a longshot and it might not even change my scenario because I need a device quickly, but I’m curious if anyone has heard any information on this.
If you made it this far, thank you so much for reading, I know I ask a lot of questions and might be overthinking this, but I want to make a wise decision about how I spend my money, especially with how much these new devices will cost. TIA for your input!

2017 - Worked at a local hospital, went to school. Had to leave due to onset of seizures. 2018 - Went back working at the hospital, moved to a different department, make $15.50 an hour. 2019 - Got EMT-B license, moved onto a local company, went full time at a community college while still living at home. 2020 - Transferred to a state college, 3 months in COVID happened. Lived in my grandparents home while I finished up my semester. Worked on a COVID response team then some testing centers with my EMS company. Was PERDIEM and could p/u whatever hours as long as I fulfilled 32-hours a month. I would work 32 hours in one week at the ending of one month, then the beginning of the other. Then I would have 5 weeks off. No bills, responsibilities. Spent my time playing World of Warcraft 16+ hours a day. Most depressed I'd ever been in my life. 2021 - Was able to move back to school and work in the testing center. By doing this, I received free housing (a 1B1Bath townhouse) along with 3 free meals a day as well as free parking. I did not have a roommate. The only thing I needed to do was take a minimum of 6 credits during the regular semester. This lasted until the summer of 2022. Met a lot of great people and made some connections that would help me out later on. I also started working in the ER at a local hospital as well as a local EMS company. 2022 - Didn't continue taking college classes. Continued working at a local hospital, this time they were offering bonus ($25/hr) on top of my regular pay for any shifts that you picked up. The thing is, I was per-diem, so every shift I worked was a p/u shift. I HATED this job. I was so miserable. I would start work at 0300 and end at 1900 4 days a week. I would then (once a week) work my overnight shift at the local EMS company. I started looking for another job, and eventually found and landed one at a medical startup in the summer of 2022. It was originally a hybrid position but if you worked overtime ( I always worked overtime) you could work from home. Left the hospital in the fall and the EMS company in the winter of 2022. 2023 - Continued working at the startup, I was promoted within 6 months, switched to a different shift, and became fully remote. Worked on countless projects and helped provide a unique perspective from my past experiences. Also worked very closely with our customers and their clinical teams and grew my relationships with them significantly. 2024 - I landed a job (developer with low code/ no code application) in our product division. Switched from an hourly to salary position. I'm on track to make about $90,000 this year. I didn't really enjoy working all of those hours to make what I did in 2023 and wanted a change. This new position has opened me up to a whole new world. I'm learning so many valuable lessons within product development, coding/programming, development, IT, etc. I really hope this new position helps me learn as much as possible and be able to work on more intense projects, and hopefully help me land a higher position. I now live with my girlfriend in a MCOL area. I haven’t gone back to college. I was almost a Junior with the amount of credits I had, but I needed to get out of my living situation after I moved from the free housing the school offered. I don't really know what my plan is but I really would like to hold a degree one day. Currently, I am focused on learning everything I possible can within this new position and am trying to be part of as many different projects as possible. I have a great support system now, amazing mentors, new friends and a better outlook on life. I will never forget how miserable I was back in 2021, and will always use that as a reason to keep trying and moving forward. It's amazing to look back and see just how far I've come even without a degree.

2024.05.15 17:02 snuffy_bodacious Arming Teachers Actually Makes Sense

When we tone down the rabid emotions tied to this hot button, the idea of arming teachers is actually not a bad idea. There is considerable evidence that mass shooters gravitate towards target gun free zones, and the logic for why shouldn't be difficult to understand to anyone with an operating pre-frontal cortex.
When people argue against this, they often fail to understand how the program would work.
  1. These people would work with or without dedicated security officers as necessary.
  2. Any school faculty who would be armed would be required to submit to an additional background check, if necessary.
  3. Armed faculty would be required to attend extensive training on how to hand a mass shooting scenario, as well as additional de-escalation training.
  4. The program would be 100% voluntary, requiring no more than 10-20% of faculty at most. No faculty who is uncomfortable with carrying a firearm would be expected to do so. In fact, just legalizing this as a policy at the state level without actually arming anyone at a specific school might be enough to dissuade some shooters from targeting the school to begin with. (Some teachers at some schools would still have to be armed for this to be at least somewhat effective.)
So why can't we do this?
"Because teachers would be uncomfortable carrying a gun!"
Answer: re-read point #4.
"What about armed teachers who is gets in a confrontation with a student."
Answer: reread point #3. It is also worth pointing out that millions of people in America carry concealed every day. These people occasionally get in heated confrontations with strangers and relatives alike without resorting to violence. In fact, there is counter-intuitive evidence to suggest that the average CCP is less violent than the average civilian.
As an anecdote, my mom is a retired schoolteacher of 24 years. I asked her about this, and although she said she personally wouldn't be comfortable carrying a gun at work, she would have no problem if some of her colleagues were to step up to the challenge.
Now, to be clear, arming teachers is not a panacea. It will help with the problem, but it won't fix it. If we really want to tackle the problem of gun violence in America, we need to face the atrocious rate of fatherless homes - of which, America has the highest rate in the developed world.

Dps, Supports, everyone in my teams is making baffling decisions now. Rowan doesnt know how to reposition himself anymore for his ult, Cecia ulting on tanks instead of a free backline, no there wasnt any characters with taunts. It feels like Im playing a MOBA with really oblibious players.
On Yeti dream realm fight Odie just M1 on the boss and ignores snowballed teamates instead of helping. No Odie, you cant 1v5 the enemy team just because you are the carry, start farming they are 4 levels above you because you ran into their base without your support. You cant manually control their ults on arena or dream realm so its really annoying. I can still win with good comp and positioning but I also noticed these headscratching moments that dint really happen before.

I didn't find anything that I would like so I created a simple site that creates those simple news. It's written by gpt-4, not the same as by a human but the quality is decent and few people already found it useful.
The site has been live for a few months, and I've just added Dutch a week ago since I began learning the language myself recently. I’m sharing this with you all to see if it might be useful to others as well. The site is completely free and operates without any ads. 2024.05.15 17:01 TragicKingdom1 June to September 2024 Rate Selection Process, Part 1 - Idea Discussion & Submission

Read this whole post before submitting! Posting your ideas here DOES NOT count as a submission.

Time flies, it's already time for rate selection again! Please be advised of the following:
  1. The winner of the Payola poll a few weeks ago is Commercial Male Hip Hop! If any of your ideas fall under the umbrella of Main Rap Boys, then make sure to mention it on the submission form so your idea can be voted on.
  2. We also have another meta rate approaching, so in total there will be six rates selected through the normal process.

How to Construct a Rate Idea

  • Generally, your idea should consist of 40-60 songs that are bound together by common concepts. These can be shared audience (e.g. depressed British), sound (e.g. psychedelic rock), a specific time period (e.g. 1970s), general popularity (e.g. bubbling under mainstays), or anything else you can think of. The more overlap that your rate has between its songs in these aspects, the stronger the idea is. You can be as creative as you'd like with your combinations, but you need to be able to make the case as to why the songs belong together in a rate.
  • The easiest way to find commonalities among songs is by putting 3 or 4 albums together in an idea. However, you can also construct rates with loose songs if you have a strong concept tying them together (this is called a "grab bag" rate.)
  • You can also include a "bonus rate" in your idea which are generally leftover tracks that are related to the overarching concept but do not fit in the main rate for whatever reason (e.g. loose singles in between album eras.) Bonus rates are optional to complete at the time of rating and should not be included in an idea without strong justification for it.
  • Be mindful of the length of your idea; do not include more songs for the sake of it. The average rate should be less than 3 hours long with the bonus rate included, and rates over 4 hours long are very unlikely to be picked unless they consist of very popular songs. To check how long your rate is, I recommend putting all of the songs in a playlist on your streaming service of choice.
  • Albums released in 2024 (including unreleased albums) or MOST albums that have already been rated are ineligible for inclusion in your ideas. The albums from previous rates that ARE eligible are those from the first three years of rates (i.e. covered by the first three All Stars rates) that did NOT ever spawn a rate winning song. For clarity, HERE is a pastebin of all of the albums eligible for a rerate. HOWEVER, you cannot submit an idea with JUST rerated albums.
  • Rate ideas can include songs that have been previously rated but should not focus on them, so as to not feel like an All Stars rate.

How to Submit Your Rate Idea

  • All submissions will be handled through this Google form. Please do not direct message me your ideas.
  • You are required to fill out the four following fields in order for your submission to be counted:
  • Title: The name of your rate. It should summarize the overarching concept, but feel free to come up with something catchy and fun as well.
  • Albums/songs included: A list of the albums or songs included in the rate. You can simply list the albums if applicable (e.g. Artist - Title vs. Artist - Title vs. Artist - Title), but if you are submitting a grab bag rate you must include a Pastebin/Pastee/etc link to the songs included.
  • Description: Describe what ties the albums/songs together if you weren't able to fit it into the title, and list relevant information like number of songs and length of rate (e.g. 1 hour 56 minutes.) Keep this as brief as possible: if you go over ~100 words I will shorten it myself to the most relevant information.
  • Host needed? If you would like to host the rate by yourself, select "No." If you are uninterested in hosting altogether, select "Yes." If you want a cohost, select "Cohost wanted." If you want a specific other person to host your rate, they should submit the idea themselves.
  • You are limited to two ideas submitted per cycle. However, please do not submit low effort ideas just for the sake of filling up both of your spots.
  • If you submit an identical idea as somebody else, I will arbitrarily decide which description is better and include that one in the voting, but I will encourage you to cohost the rate together if it is selected. If there is ANY difference between two ideas, they will be put up for voting separately.

How We Pick the Rates

  • In the next stage, you'll see that we are measuring two metrics of popularity: "approval" and "favorites." Approval will be based on a simple thumbs up/thumbs down/neutral vote for each rate. Favorites will be based on polling each person's five favorite ideas per cycle.
  • Generally, the six most popular rate ideas across both metrics will be picked. However, we will also consider how the selected rates play off of each other, in an effort to ensure a maximum level of diversity in genre and audience.
  • Rate ideas from active rate participants who are enthusiastic about hosting are more likely to be picked. Likewise, rate ideas from negative presences in the community are less likely to be picked.
Please use the comment section below for the following purposes:
  • Posting your ideas for feedback and/or promotion
  • Asking for advice on what artists/albums/songs to include in your earthshattering rate idea
  • Discussing what sorts of rates you'd like to see picked in general
  • Finding someone who would like to cohost your rate with you
Also, be sure to check out the following rates which are currently accepting submissions:

These submissions will close on Wednesday, May 22nd at 4PM Eastern time. HERE is the link to submit in case you missed it earlier.

2024.05.15 17:01 samdane7777 Obscure Constitutional Cases That Would Be Used To Erode Code is Speech--Excerpts from Coincenter

Professional conduct regulation cases do not support the constitutionality of this rulemaking

The existing broker disclosure obligations as applied to customer agents and principals, though never explicitly validated in the courts, may alternatively be found constitutional as a reasonable regulation of professional conduct that incidentally burdens some speech activities of the persons engaged in that regulated conduct. In that interpretation, the conduct being regulated is that of entering into an agency relationship with a customer or else acting as the principal in a sale to the customer. While a written contract is speech, the assumption of a legal relationship that it embodies is doubtlessly conduct and can be the subject of regulation.
As the Court held in United States v. O’Brien, laws affecting speech that are aimed at the regulation of non-expressive conduct are still analyzed under First Amendment jurisprudence, but face a lower level of constitutional scrutiny than laws aimed directly at the regulation of expressive conduct or at speech activities themselves: “a sufficiently important governmental interest in regulating the nonspeech element [of the regulated conduct] can justify incidental limitations on First Amendment freedoms.”47 The compulsion to merely report privately to the IRS and to the taxpayer certain “purely factual and uncontroversial information” about the regulated non-expressive conduct may rightly be framed as an “incidental” limitation on traditional brokers’ otherwise unabridged First Amendment rights.
The O’Brien standard, however, is only applicable if the rule is targeted at regulating non-expressive conduct. Things become more complicated when the rule is targeted at regulating expressive conduct or at speech itself. There is a long though underappreciated line of cases stemming from O’Brien that points toward a reasonably straightforward series of tests for when regulation of professional conduct that burdens speech activities is constitutional. That line has been best illuminated by attorney Robert Kry in his article, “The ‘Watchman for Truth’: Professional Licensing and the First Amendment.”48 Kry, summarizing and synthesizing many cases, finds that
In the case of a broker who is, in fact, an agent of a customer or a principal in a sale to a customer, the regulation is plausibly aimed at the non-expressive component of the professional’s activity. An agent under common law principles is acting on behalf of her customer. When a broker agrees to a sale, she binds the customer to that sale. The reporting requirement, therefore, is merely a requirement to disclose certain facts about one’s sales, i.e. one’s conduct as an agent. As a principal in a sale to a customer, the broker is, once again, engaged in conduct, a sale, and the reporting requirement merely discloses facts about that conduct. Additionally, brokers of this type are in most cases already subject to a licensing or registration requirement under other statutes.50 Those forms of professional conduct are traditionally regulated and the tax laws merely provide for an additional recordkeeping and reporting requirement associated with that conduct. Altogether, the reporting requirement, though compelled speech, appears to be a regulation aimed at the non-expressive component of a professional’s activity. It is therefore likely constitutional.
As described earlier however, the Treasury Department’s proposed rule inappropriately departs from that customer agent or principal standard and seeks to compel speech from persons who are engaged in no such regulated conduct. A mere publisher or maintainer of software, websites, or smart contracts is not in an agency relationship with any customer, nor is she selling anything to any customer apart from, potentially, a license to use her tools or a fee charged for relaying or publishing the user’s data on a communications network or blockchain. Additionally, unlike typical brokerage, these activities do not trigger any licensing or registration requirements under other state or federal statutory schemes.
Indeed, even when such person is relaying actual cryptocurrency transaction messages that, once recorded in the blockchain, will effect a sale of some cryptocurrency, these entities typically have no actual ability to act on behalf of the user and no actual or apparent authority under agency law to act on their behalf. At most, they can choose whether or not to relay the signed transaction message (but so too can an internet service provider); they cannot alter the contents of that message such that the terms of the sale would change. They cannot and do not act as an agent of any customer nor are they a principal in a digital asset sale to any customer.51
These persons may be involved in conduct in other ways, such as paying for web hosting services, paying fees on cryptocurrency networks to record software or data in the blockchain, taking fees from users to relay their messages, or simply paying rent or otherwise maintaining facilities wherein they or their employees do the work of developing software or maintaining communications tools, but all of those activities are aimed at engaging in speech, the publication of software and data, and none of those activities give rise to the type of fiduciary or agency-like financial relationship, i.e. conduct, that justifies third-party tax reporting obligations.
Moreover, these persons have deliberately designed their software, websites, and smart contract tooling such that it can be useful to a trader and capable of facilitating their trades or other desires without the need for any agency relationship or for any legal or trust-based relationship with the publisher or any other party whatsoever. The user can and does do it all themselves. That is the point of cryptocurrency and “decentralized finance.” We can debate the merit of such a design goal,52 but what is not debatable is that this is how these tools are presently designed.53 By demanding that these publishers rewrite their tools such that an agency relationship is established between the author of the tool and its user, such that the name, Social Security number, and other intimate details of the user are entrusted to the alleged “broker,” the regulation is squarely aimed at compelling not merely the disclosure of trading data and taxable gains, but also the compelled creation of significant expressive software and tooling to solicit and collect data in a manner that would otherwise be antithetical to the goals of the software developer. Such an order is so unprecedented that it is difficult to find appropriate metaphors or past examples. It is as if a state—frustrated that it cannot determine who is reading which books—ordered that novelists shall hold in-person book readings during which they must collect and report information about their audience.
Accordingly, when applied to mere publishers and maintainers of software, websites, and smart contracts, these regulations target the expressive activity of the alleged broker. That does not mean, however, that such rules will automatically be unconstitutional. The Court has dealt with several regulatory schemes aimed at expressive professional conduct, such as a lawyer giving legal advice to a client. Throughout these cases the Court has developed a robust series of standards for constitutionality that are focused primarily on “which kinds of advice are licensable based on how closely they resemble forms of communication associated with fiduciary relationships.”54 This leads us to the second question in Kry’s analysis of the First Amendment limits to regulating professional conduct, what he calls the “value neutral test” because it applies irrespective of whether the speech affected is a matter of public concern and irrespective of the motives of the speaker:
Given the in-person and client-specific nature of legal services, there should be no surprise that under these cases the professional regulation of attorneys, including licensing, limits on solicitation and advertising, and—as in this rulemaking—compelled disclosures, typically withstands constitutional scrutiny. In the context of developers of cryptocurrency systems, however, the answer to Kry’s twin questions of characteristic-dependence and person-to-person context is an unqualified “no.” It is taken as written that software, websites, and smart contracts in the cryptocurrency space are built such that they are generic, serving the needs of whoever wants to use them irrespective of the characteristics of that user. It is also a given that these tools are shared widely over the internet and used freely by whoever happens to download them or (in some cases) whoever pays to license the software or pays to have their transactions relayed by the software. As such, they are never “delivered in the context of a person- to-person relationship.”56 Accordingly, regulation of the speech activities of these developers, including compulsions to report and develop expressive software that enables that reporting, would face strict scrutiny by the Court and be found unconstitutional.
While these standards are general principles that are equally applicable to any kind of expressive conduct regulation, it is nonetheless worth noting that several of the cases that first articulated these standards dealt explicitly with speech, including software, that advised and facilitated sales of valuable assets. As such, the speech in question in these cases was very similar factually to the speech that would be burdened under the Treasury Department’s proposed rule. The value-neutral test was developed in Lowe v. SEC, a case involving the unconstitutional application of the Investment Advisers Act to a person merely publishing a public newsletter,57 and it was further reinforced in Taucher v. Born58 and two similar cases59 dealing with the unconstitutional application of the Commodities Exchange Act to the developers of commodities trading software.60

2024.05.15 17:01 KawaiiHamburger Pools and perspective

I was thinking about how this show is all about perspective. Bear with me cause I probably won’t get everything accurate here but hopefully the gist will make sense. Ruby talks about the elephant being the strongest animal but is tied down with chains staked into the ground. It could pull up the stakes but doesn’t because of how it sees itself, it doesn’t believe it’s strong. The whole idea is the perspective of the one inside the chains. At the beginning Ruby thinks she’s being chained by those at Maxton and so she says she won’t let anyone else keep her staked down. By the end of the series though she says she’s realized she was keeping herself chained there and had to break free from her own limitations. She says that’s true of others too, meaning James. I think that perspective really comes into play with him.
When he and Ruby first interact he comes at everything with the perspective of him being “James Beaufort”, this well-liked, super athlete, son of the school’s wealthiest contributor. She’s some nobody who he expects to fall at his feet. When she doesn’t it throws him off because that’s not the perspective he’s used to. Now we won’t go into whether this is realistic or not because in truth most of these bad guy goes good for the good girl stories are not realistic but that’s not the point. The point here is we like characters that broaden their perspectives when presented with a worldview that’s different from theirs. Characters that change as they’re presented with the opportunity to. That’s James. When Ruby doesn’t cave over and over to James and she presents him with the reality of how he comes across and the pretentious, hollowness of his life when they fight during the prep class, he’s forced to decide if he wants to keep seeing things only from his perspective or through someone else’s eyes. The best example of that was the pool scene.
That was the best sequence in the series but for me it’s not just because of Ruby’s vulnerability or James’s protectiveness. It’s also because it’s when James realizes that Ruby was right about the world he’s been living in. She told him she didn’t want to go to the party because that’s not her world but she went because she wanted to be with James. Him having to see her in that environment, from getting the drink thrown on her, to being tossed in the pool and his friends reactions I think shifted James perspective to seeing his world how Ruby sees it. Judgmental, frightening and shallow. He couldn’t go back to seeing it the way he had before, as fun parties with his friends without being emotionally devoid.
After that I think is why we see James questioning a lot with who he is and everything related to his father, his place in Beaufort and his place among his friends. His perspective changed. He could no longer look at that world the same after seeing it from another person’s point of view. I know it’s just a show but I think it’s fun to see what we can get out of it and for me the whole elephant metaphor was pointing in that direction. Both James and Ruby realizing that it wasn’t their worlds keeping them staked to the ground but themselves and needing to see things from different perspectives. Once James was able to free himself from only seeing things from his father’s manipulative, power means control perspective, it freed him up to dream of a different life and if we get a season 2 I’ll be curious where it goes.

2024.05.15 17:00 fuddiddle Competitive U15 Keeper Abandoned Pitch During Match Play, Coach Asleep on Sideline, 10 Minute Delay to Restart—No Cards Issued. How Would You Address as CR?

Curious how the community would handle a strange situation I witnessed during a U15 boys competitive match this weekend. I was a spectator there to support some of the players I have coached in the past (playing for the Away Team), but it got me thinking about how I would address the situation as a CR because I had never seen something like it in my 35+ years as a ref, coach, or player.
TL; DR: While ball was in play during a U15 competitive tournament match, the keeper left the pitch over the end line and walked to the parking lot; his coach was asleep on the sideline and CR had to wake him up to put another keeper on the pitch; restart of game was delayed 10 minutes; CR didn’t issue the keeper who left or the coach a card; how would you handle the situation as a CR?
Full context: This was a tournament match between two teams mathematically eliminated from moving forward in the tournament prior to kick-off, so it was the last match of the tournament for both teams. About ten minutes into the second half, the Away Team scored on a long direct free kick to go up 3-0. Ball was returned to center, kick-off restart, and game proceeded with the Home Team carrying the ball into their offensive third. This is where it gets weird.
As his team carried the ball up the pitch, the Home Team’s keeper exited the pitch across the end line and just kept going — walking to the parking lot. Because play was on the other end of the pitch the refs (and almost everyone else) were unaware the keeper walked off until the ball returned to that third of the pitch 30 seconds later. At that point, everyone on or near the pitch quickly became aware the Home Team keeper was absent — except his coach (the only coach on the sideline for that team), who sleepily remained seated in his chair at the other end of the pitch.
CR (early twenties) rightly let play continue until a natural stop in play. Unfortunately for the CR, it was a throw-in possession for the Away Team on the spectator touchline (AR was on the teams’ touchline on the same half). Per LOTG, the team out of possession cannot make a substitution unless the team in possession initiates their own substitution on a throw-in. In this case, the away team was not making a substitution and they had a clear advantage in their offensive third, so their coach encouraged them to take a quick throw-in. It was immediately clear the CR was struggling to decide if he should enforce the LOTG or uphold the SOTG because the absent player was the keeper. Fortunately, two of my former players heard me over the din and threw it in to immediately play it back out over the touchline for a turnover.
After all the commotion, one would expect the Home Team’s coach to have his team’s only substitution ready at midfield to enter the game and be communicating with his team to assign a new keeper to net ASAP, BUT the coach remained sleepily seated in his chair and didn’t send his only sub to midfield to enter the game.
Upholding the SOTG, the CR stopped the play and jogged toward the Home Team’s bench while delivering repeated verbal instructions to the coach that he should put another player on the pitch and/or identify a new keeper. Home Team coach didn’t budge; finally the CR had to tell the PLAYER (who just came off the field after the previous goal) he should re-enter the game as keeper. As this kid frantically scrambled through teammates’ bags to find a keeper jersey and gloves, the CR had to leave the pitch to WAKE THE COACH UP and inform him what was going on!
CR then ran to his AR (14/15 years old at most) on the other half to confer and then chatted with the Away Team’s Coach. The game was delayed about 10 minutes as the CR ran around trying to sort the chaos. End result was the game finally resumed without a single card being shown. I think the CR and crew were pretty well in control of the game prior to the absurd circumstance, but as a ref, coach, and former player I struggle with the fact a card never came out.
When I CR U15/16 competitive club games I still try to educate more than caution because experience and talent levels can still be pretty diverse within and between teams (and I’m also working with teenage brains), but the CR not showing cards in this circumstance boggles my mind as a ref. It a missed opportunity to enforce clear LOTG, educate through accountability, and minimize the risk that the Home Team’s frustrations with their teammate and coach could carry-over onto the pitch.
I would have approached the absurd situation this way as CR. Prior to re-start: Yellow (1) — Keeper for leaving the pitch; Yellow (1) — Coach for delay of restart. Post-match: Yellow (2, Red) — Keeper for unsporting behavio lack of respect for the game (to not penalize his team by making them play down a man); Yellow (2, Red) — Coach for unsporting behaviolack of respect for the game (to not penalize his team by removing the only coach they had on the sideline, which would have resulted in them needing to forfeit the match).
I’m curious to hear the community’s thoughts on how you would approach the situation as CR because I have never seen anything like it before and I hope to never see anything like it again.

2024.05.15 17:00 Shmodr Some (hopefully) constructive criticism

I would like to add some ideas for future updates and/or QoL features
  1. Disable animations
I don't want do citicize the animations themselves. I am sure it took time and effort for the animators to come up with and implement them, but after playing for a long time you end up at some point, when you have seen an animation for the hundred millionth time, where it kind of gets boring if not outright annoying. A toggle to disable animations would be a massive QoL feature. Especially for the missions in Beyond where you additionally have to click to finish/activate the animation.
  1. Higher tier missions in Beyond
I am at a point where the red dwarf missions have no value anymore whatsoever. I have maxed most of tier one and two objects, but I don't see the benefit of investing any dark matter in upgrading speed and payout anymore since like 99% of progress is made by the last object that has been implemented (here: horsehead nebula). It's been some time that one white dwarf mission was added and I think it's about time to add more or to generate some kiond of incentive to keep upgrading objects even if they don't contribute to the progress anymore.
  1. Quest order in Mesozoic valley
Since you essentially have to complete the simulation 500 times, it is super annoying having to scroll up and down all the time when completing the geode quests. Sometimes it's nice and easy when the next quest falls in line with the sequence of dinosaurs in the list, but more often it feels random. Similar to point one, it was nice and refreshing to have some change at the beginning but now it's more annoying than anything.
  1. Toggle for growth rate
I would like to have a toggle to always display the growth rate of numbers in value/s. When the speed of an item is not below ~0.2 seconds the growth rate is displayed in value per one cycle. This makes it harder to compare growth rates to efficiently choose where to invest resources. This toggle shouldn't be hard to implement, since the rate in value/s will be displayed eventually anyway and in most events it's like this by default, so why not make it available for the other simulations as well?
Sure, most of these request are not a big deal and you can get by without them, but it's those few additional seconds/clicks that sometimes make me not open the game at all. And I know player retention and gametime are important metrics but in my case, and I think many long time players think similarly, it would make me want to come back more often if I spent less time waiting for animations to end/having to do unnecessary clicks. So even if this might seem counterintuitive, I would probably be spending more time in total by spending less time per one instance of opening the game.
Thanks for reading my rambling and feel free to criticize my criticism or add to it in the comments.

2024.05.15 16:59 Arch_Angel_4070 20 M4F, East Coast/online Looking for my person

Well here goes. I’ve never had much luck with this kind of stuff but I hope that can change. I’m really looking for a deep connection. A kind and understanding person who can help nurture a bond between us.
About me: Like I said, I’m a 20 year old guy who lives on the east coast. I’m 5’8, kinda stocky, grey/green eyes, and dirty blonde hair with a beard. I work from home for an internet company and I’m going to college in the STEM field. In my free time I write my novel, sing, game, and play with my dog. I’m a huge nerd and love Lord of The Rings, Star Wars, and DND. I hope to find another nerd to share these interests.
About you: For me looks don’t matter. I want a beautiful soul to fall in love with. I’d prefer someone on the east coast but I can definitely do long distance. I’m not picky tbh, if you’re just a good natured person who wants to make a connection I can probably vibe with you somehow. I have a thing for both taller and shorter women lol, so pick your poison. I just hope to find someone I can really grow to love.
That’s about it. I’m off for the next two days so I’d love to hear back from anyone in that time. I’m always near my phone cause I’m a bit of a home body and don’t really spend my days out so I should respond quickly. Face pics and name are available upon request. I’m excited to hear from you!

2024.05.15 16:55 alexcwyu88 mortgage conversion experience

I signed a mortgage contract with CITI Bank a year ago, with a 2-year lock-in period. Now that I’m eligible for a free conversion, I wanted to switch to another 2-year fixed mortgage plan.
From what I’ve learned from friends who recently got new mortgages or converted existing ones, the rates are as follows:
However, CITI is offering me a 3.2% rate for the 2-year fixed plan, which is 0.35-0.4% higher than the rates offered by other banks and what CITI offer to new clients.

This seems unfair and feels like existing clients are being penalized. Has anyone else experienced this issue with CITI or any other bank? Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated. Is there any way I can early terminate such deal with CITI without paying the penalty ?
Thanks!

2024.05.15 16:54 Management_7611 What's Is there Get the way to Watch Live Fury vs Usyk Boxing Streams Free?

What's Is there Get the way to Watch Live Fury vs Usyk Boxing Streams Free?? Fury is getting on a bit. He's not going to be as mobile as he used to be. Coming in heavy only compounds that. Even a slimmed down Fury is bigger and stronger than Usyk, so why risk gassing out or being unable to catch the smaller man?
🔴Visit🥊► Boxing Streams
🔴Watch🥊► Boxing Live
Does anybody else think that Tyson fury is looking a bit too thin to fight usyk? If you get me. It looks like he's lost ALOT of weight. His weight is his biggest advantage. If he looses more than he usually does, I think he'll struggle against usyk there's no way he'll outbox him. as he won't have much weight for him to lean on usyk and also unpopular opinion, I do think it's fishy. He wasn't in good shape for the feb 17th usyk fight and now he got "cut" it's given him lots more time to train doesn't it seem strange?
I pirate everything: games, movies, software, and even made my own plex server. But lately I have gotten really into Usyk & Fury Boxing and haven't found a great way to watch Boxing for free live.
The Fury v Usyk live stream sees the undisputed heavyweight championship defend his strap against the popular Californian pugilist. Here's everything you need to know to watch online with and without a PPV. Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will take the ring on Saturday May 18) at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Here are all the ways to stream live free online.
I don't care if there is a small delay or anything, but it needs to be at a good bitrate at 1080p or it isn't worth watch for me. Also preferably I would want a way to watch it on a smart TV in some way but im expecting to sacrifice that luxury honestly.
ESPN, ABC or Boxing Network. I'm sure you can stream as well as way to watch it but I want to see what you guys recommend.

2024.05.15 16:54 Stiles-Micaiah Setting Up HDR Support on Linux (Plasma 6)

I’m creating this post to assist newcomers in setting up HDR support on Linux using Plasma 6. I’ve encountered partial and use-case answers, and the wiki isn’t exactly coherent. Hopefully, this guide will help someone (or preferably many people) get HDR working without spending hours on Google, Bing, and Copilot searches. Also, I used Copilot to make this more legible after typing it out. So, if bits of it sound like AI, it’s just rephrasing something I said.
IMPORTANT:
Instructions:
  1. Check Display Settings:
    • Go to Settings > Display & Monitor and look for an HDR option. If it’s there, skip to step 5.
    • If no HDR option appears, proceed to the following fixes.
  2. Ensure You’re Using Wayland:
    • Wayland supports HDR, while Xorg (X11) does not.
    • Check your current graphics platform under Settings > About This System > Graphics Platform.
    • To switch to Wayland:
      • Go to Settings > Colors and Themes > Login Screen (SDDM) > Behavior (top right).
      • Set Auto Login to use Wayland.
      • Restart your system. (There might be alternative methods; feel free to comment if you know one!)
  3. Driver Caution:
    • Switching to Wayland may break your drivers.
    • If so, run the following commands and restart: sudo mhwd --remove pci video-nvidia && sudo mhwd -i pci video-nvidia
  4. Enable HDR:
    • Now that you’re using Wayland with fresh drivers, the HDR option should appear. Refer to step 1.
    • Change settings one at a time or it may not apply correctly (e.g., 1080p > apply > 120Hz > apply > HDR on > apply). KDE can be quirky like that.
  5. Install Gamescope:
    • To get Steam games running in HDR, you’ll need Gamescope.
    • Install Gamescope with the following command: sudo pacman -Syu && sudo pacman -S gamescope
    • Enable Steam integration: gamescope -e -- steam
  6. Steam Launch Options:
    • Add launch options for the game you want HDR in.
    • For 1080p@120Hz, the launch option might look like: gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -r 120 --hdr-enabled -- %command%
      • gamescope specifies the use of Gamescope.
      • The custom resolution and refresh rate are necessary (there’s a reason, but I forgot!).
      • Ensure HDR is enabled in the launch options; otherwise, it won’t work.
  7. Testing HDR:
    • After completing the steps above, HDR should work in your game.
    • Keep in mind that the Steam UI will probably be very glitchy at this point. Patience and deep breaths are essential.
    • I tested it with Horizon Forbidden West, and it worked phenomenally once I was in the game.
  8. Returning to X11 for Compatibility and Comfort:
    • Repeat Step 2, choosing X11 instead of Wayland.
    • Remove launch options.
    • Voilà, we’re back to square one!
Caveats:
TL; DR: Dude it's an instruction set, go back and read 💀
