2024.05.16 19:40 ThatNCLady I'm a short woman (5'3 118 lbs.) 2100 TDEE. The only thing I can control is how active I am.

I used to weigh nearly 170 lbs, and then a few years ago I finally lost the weight.
I used to be a fat, smoking, pothead of a loser who didn't exercise at all. I'm proud to say I'm 5 years smoke free, lost 50 lbs and now only use weed on the weekends.
When I first started losing weight, I didn't exercise at all and lost about 15 pounds without any exercise. However, I was MISERABLE. I felt constantly deprived. Once I hit around the 150s, I added in exercise. I upped my calories to 1600 and still reliably lost around 5 lbs a month. Furthermore, exercise has lead to a MASSIVE uptick in my mental health. Here is what I do:
I get around 10,000 steps a day. I'm not trying to lose weight anymore - I'm actually trying to put on a bit of muscle now. I realize not everybody can exercise due to disabilities, life circumstances, etc. but this is what works for me. Exercising more + eating more is WAY better for me than being sedentary and eating less for many reasons. I try to keep my breakfast to around 400 kcal, lunch is around 550, and dinner is around 700 kcal and that leaves me 450 if I want a little ice cream after dinner, if I want to split a bottle of wine with my husband during dinner, or just if I want snacks for the day.
I'm glad I found something that works for me.

2024.05.16 17:42 karinamarinasarina Should I go back to retinol?

Posting on here for some advice on whether to start using retinol again… I have a long story with acne and getting perioral dermatitis recently - really need some advice
For context, I have struggled with acne my entire life, from the age of 11 I was on multiple treatments including creams and antibiotics to try and control my spotty and oily t-zone. At the age of 17 I had a terrible break out on my cheeks, it was really severe and I had never had acne like that before. After numerous things I ended going on the contraceptive pill and that completely cleared my skin. I was on the pill for about 5-6 years but it really affected my mental health, depression, anxiety and mood swings were horrible so I finally came off it before the age of 23.
When I came off the pill I became quite nervous that all my acne would come back, I began getting spots here and there, and after seeing the rave about tretinoin online I decided to give it a go. It definitely wasn’t the best decision from me, I got the retinol uglies, I went in with 0.5 which was definitely too strong too quick and I was losing hope after a few months. I think my skin was just TOO exfoliated, I couldn’t figure out a routine and I think I was using too many products.
I then switched to Dermatica and got prescribed Adapalene 0.2% / Clindamycin 1% / Niacinimide 4% This felt better but my skin was continually peeling, it looks glowy now that I look back on pictures but I was still getting spots. Nothing drastic but I was definitely searching for that glass skin look.
After 6 months they switched my prescription and removed the Clindamycin (due to resistance to that ingredient I think you can only take it for 6 months). This was before Christmas time in 2023, the weather became really extreme and my skin suffered. I thought it was just the weather and I would lather in moisturisers and continue to only use Dermatica every 3rd night but my skin would not stop peeling. I contacted Dermatica and told them my side effects and they said that my skin is just getting used to it. I began to get a dry patch near my mouth which slowly got worse, I thought this was because of the weather but I got a lot of redness around my mouth and looking online I felt like I had developed perioral dermatitis.
Long story short I did have perioral dermatitis. I stripped my skincare routine to be VERY minimal and began taking antibiotic, I was prescribed Lymecycline from my doctor for 3 months, I also started using Azelaic Acid after following Dr Sam Bunting advice online.
Now that I have finished my antibiotic, I am still continually getting spots, it almost feels a tad worse now that I’ve finished the antibiotic (Lymecycline is also prescribed for acne as well as POD). My skin feels really clogged and my forehead just has a lot of tiny spots, I keep getting breakouts and I just want to not have to deal with it all the time, it feels NEVER ending that I have acne for the rest of time at the moment.
Here is my current skincare routine: AM - Wash face with water - The Ordinary Caffeine Solution under my eyes - The Inkey List Azelaic Acid 10% - The Inkey List Vitamin C 15% (just started using this to brighten marks) - The Inkey List Niacinimide (for my oiliness) - The Inkey List Omega Water Cream (if my skin is feeling moisturised I don’t use this) - Paula’s Choice Clear SPF 30 Fluid
PM - Remove make up with The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm - Wash face with Dr Sam Bunting Flawless Cleanser - Dr Sam Bunting Flawless Neutralising Gel - this has 2% salycilic acid, 5% azelaic acid, 0.5% bakuchiol, 5% squalene (started using this in the past week now that I have finished my antibiotic and I only put it on my spots, most nights in the week) - Sometimes I may use Paula’s Choice BHA or AHA (probably once a week and not at the same time as the gel above) - Cosrx Snail Mucin (if my skin is feeling dry or I have used an exfoliator) - The Inkey List Omega Water Cream OR Aveeno Oat Restorative Night Cream
Treatments: - I’ve got the Omnilux Red Light Therapy mask and I use it a few times a week (my skin feels very hydrated and plump from this) - I’ve been using a high frequency wand a few times a week on my spots
I’ve been contemplating using The Ordinary Retinal 0.2% maybe once or twice a week in the evenings, but I’m just really nervous and not entirely sure whether it’s worth it. My skin did look good on Dermatica (apart from the peeling) and definitely way less clogged than I feel now, so I feel really tempted especially hearing that retinal is really good.
Considering I’ve been using Azelaic Acid daily for 3 months now I feel like my skin is slightly less sensitive, but I’m VERY worried I will fall into a trap and over exfoliate if my spots still continue, I’m a stress picker and I just want them gone so if one appears I just need to do something to it. I’m also very scared of the retinol uglies, I’ve started a new job recently and I’m definitely worried it will crush my confidence on a daily, as already I get quite down about spots.
Does anyone have any advice if retinal is a good idea?

2024.05.16 17:33 Justraidingtombs Finally found a great exfoliant to pair with Tret!!!

Finally found a great exfoliant to pair with Tret!!!
I’ve been using 0.1 Retin-A nightly for over a year. My skin has become acclimated but I still experience peeling/flaking. I’ve tried skin cycling using glycolic acid, lactic acid, and mandelic acid but my skin would become irritated and red no matter what acid and even though I was using acid once a week and doing a buffer day before and after the night using acid. The Ordinary just released this toner with yeast extract that exfoliates skin without the use of acids so I decided to take a risk and try it out. I used it that night and immediately the next morning I woke up to all my flakes and peeling gone!!! I’ve been using it in both my day and night routine for a week and it’s been absolutely amazing. My skin feels hydrated and relieved and the peeling is all gone. Highly recommend for folks on tret wanting exfoliation without the acids. Also, it smells like sweet dough!!
For context, my skin is very dry and light in colour. I live in Toronto and weather has been warm and kinda humid outside lately.
Day routine: -Wash with water -The Ordinary Saccharomyces Ferment 30% milky toner -Cosrx Snail Mucin Essence (two pumps) -Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream -The Ordinary squalane oil -Sunscreen (currently using Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV SPF50+ PA++++)
Night: -Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Cleansing Oil (I also follow up after 1 min of massaging it by mixing in a little water for another minute) -Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser -The Ordinary Saccharomyces Ferment 30% milky toner -Cosrx Snail Mucin Essence (two pumps) -Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream -LaRoche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5

2024.05.16 16:04 Powerful_Win7502 Colonoscopy Experience

I am (30F) posting my experience to give strength to other people who are scared of getting colonoscopy. Just like you, I was terrified with the procedure and the result. My bowel changes started February 2023 few days after we moved to our new apartment. My symptoms were:
•Mostly Constipated (2-3days before I could poop) •Narrow stool (every visit I have either a thumb, index finger or pinkie - also had ribbon one) •I had diarrheas but not sure if it was connected because I only experience it 3-4 times in the year •Soft poop, like when you flush it, it will dissolve in water. •Color changes to orange, light to dark yellow, dark brown to normal brown. •Feeling unable to evacuate everything •Random pain mostly in the left side of my belly button, and right lower side. •Undigested food on the stool
My bowel movement were normal for the last 29 years of my life and so I was so scared when it changed. I changed my diet to more fiber, more water, walking everyday, drinking vitamins and trying laxatives and fibres, but none of them work. So after a year of worrying I went to private gastro clinic and did checkup April 2024 because whenever I call for appointment (Canada) they always tell me to go to my pharmacy to get laxatives. My doctor offered me colonoscopy just to make sure its not something we dont want to hear but she did not think it was bad. After a month of waiting, I got my schedule for long colonoscopy (happened in public so I did not have to pay). I went to the hospital, nurse asked few things about my health history, change into my gown. Got injected by IV for water and rolled to the room. My heartbeat was 127 and the nurse said the normal beat is 80. hahaha I was very nervous but the doctor and nurse was so nice. She told me shés going to inject the medicine, and I thought I was going to sleep but no. I felt relax, but mostly awake. I almost did not feel anything but I know that shes doing something, and I forgot when did it start and ended but I remember watching my colon on the screen it looks clean my colon. I was even raising my head to see more and I felt the nurse pushing lightly my head on the pillow haha 🤣 I cant remember when did they roll me back to the waiting area. After a few minutes the nurse told me to change, and wait for my doctor for the result. The doctor said, nothing to worry, my colon is clean! She thinks that my body reacted late to changes on my sorrounding and what I eat, I am from Southeast asia and move here since June 2021. I did not believe in the past, but the hardest part was preparation - and to be honest I think its not that bad except my butthole was aching and I am very into food so I was also starving for food. Please buy yourself diaper rash cream, when I put this on my butt at second part of drinking colyte, i did not feel any burn or pain anymore!!
Prior to this, I also had two Transvaginal ultrasound because of my constipation but have not found any problem. My mind is at peace knowing there's no issues on my colon. I realize that if you have any health problem, you have to have it check as soon as possible because they will either give you solution or put your mind at ease. Always pray whatever it is.

2024.05.16 12:05 Pale_Midnight2472 Some doubts about weight loss and health, and what could I be doing wrong

Hi I am 27 F, I am 163 cm and weight 65 kg. This past year I gained about 8 Kg. None of my clothes fit me anymore. At this point it is not even about the weight. I just want to be healthier, I want to build muscle, and I want to have more energy.
I used to go running and on a lot of walks, but I moved to a much colder country, so I stopped. Now that the weather is better I plan to go on more walks, but I find 10 k steps, sort of hard to hit. I recently got my self a treadmill and some dumbbells, and I also have a jumping rope, I plan to do some strength and resistance training along with some cardio, and I want to do about 4-5 hours a week. Btw, I am a beginner.
Is that a good amount of working out time?
Does walking count inside this workout time, or is it separated? Is walking a workout at all?
Also what do you eat? What do you snack? Do you take extra protein?
I find counting macros and calories incredibly hard and confusing, so I am trying to moderate oil, reach for greens and veggies… I completely cut out sugar, I don’t drink sugary sodas, or juice. I don’t eat chips or chocolate or ice cream (Except the occasional gelato/boba tea, every 2/3 weeks or so (always during a walk, and only on spring/summer) and I only eat out on special ocasions, about every 6 months), like ordering pizza on my birthday.
Any advice, or tips are very appreciated!! Thanks. You so much!

2024.05.16 11:58 UMJaved Why are Scatter Diagrams Used?

Why are Scatter Diagrams Used?
Scatter diagrams are a powerful visual tool used to explore and understand the relationship between two variables. Whether you're analyzing data sets, conducting research, or making informed decisions, scatter diagrams offer valuable insights into the correlation, trends, and patterns within your data. Let's delve into the reasons why scatter diagrams are widely used and how they can benefit your analytical endeavors.

Reasons

Identify Patterns and Trends

One of the primary reasons for using scatter diagrams is to identify patterns and trends within data sets. By plotting data points on a Cartesian plane with one variable on each axis, scatter diagrams provide a visual representation of how the variables are related. Whether it's assessing the correlation between sales volume and advertising expenditure or examining the relationship between temperature and ice cream sales, scatter diagrams enable you to identify trends, clusters, and outliers that may not be apparent from raw data alone.

Assess Correlation Strength

Another key benefit of scatter diagrams is their ability to assess the strength and direction of correlation between variables. By examining the dispersion of data points around the plotted trend line, you can determine whether there is a positive, negative, or no correlation between the variables. This information is invaluable for making predictions, identifying causal relationships, and informing decision-making processes.

Identify Outliers and Anomalies

Scatter diagrams also help in identifying outliers and anomalies within data sets. Outliers are data points that deviate significantly from the overall pattern or trend observed in the scatter plot. These outliers may represent unusual or unexpected observations that warrant further investigation. By visually identifying outliers in a scatter diagram, you can uncover insights, detect data errors, and refine your analysis to ensure accuracy and reliability.
In summary, scatter diagrams are used for various purposes, including identifying patterns and trends, assessing correlation strength, and identifying outliers and anomalies within data sets. By leveraging the visual power of scatter diagrams, you can gain deeper insights into your data, make informed decisions, and drive meaningful outcomes in your projects and endeavors.
How to create a Scatter Diagram in Microsoft Excel?
  1. Install ChartExpo for Excel add-in (Its is an add-in for Microsoft Excel that delivers advance charts in Excel. You can Google it)
  2. Find "Scatter Plot" in the list of charts
  3. Bind your data and create the chart
  4. Export the chart and share with your audience

2024.05.16 06:53 frostyfraps Good idea to stop tret for a bit? Help

Hey guys :) I was using 0.1% Retin-A Micro Gel + C-BP 1/5% as my treatment but I had some reddish type reaction on my forehead (looked like hives, but wasn't itchy) and very itchy skin around my jawline/hairline. One small part/side of my forehead felt rough, like it was burnt? It's gone now though now that I stopped a bit.
For the first week, my skin was a bit smoother but that reaction happened a day after Week 2 of me using tret/C-BP. I was only using Tret 2 times a week (only at night) and the C-BP as a spot treatment in the morning. So far it got rid of my red/inflamed acne and left me with some brownish-acne marks on my cheeks and forehead and I still have some closed comedomes on my cheeks.
Was it a good call to stop tret for a bit? I'm planning on starting again next week. Will I purge again if I restart?
(Started Retin-A Micro: April 24th, stopped May 8th, currently still using C-BP for spot treatment on some smaller acne that popped up)
EDIT: I forgot to add my routine! Sorry!
My previous routine before stopping Tret,
AM Routine
PM Routine (Tret Days, 2 times/week Wednesdays and Saturdays)
PM Routine (NO TRET)

[First Contact] [Dark Ages] [First] [Prev] [Next] [wiki]
"Leave the sleeping dragons lie in peace" is a lesson that seemingly has to be taught to every wannabe conqueror over and over again.
Time after time, there will be a few idiots who only see the dragon's hoard, its cult of followers, and ignore the piles of rusted, slagged, calcified, scorched remains of every moron who tried before them. They see all of this and think "I can beat it to submission and take everything it has."
And then the dragon wakes up, and more smoldering remains are added to the scorched scrap heap.
And the Malevolent Universe grins in the darkness, and increases the "Dead morons who should have known better" counter by one. Then, waits for the next contestant. - u/Matt_Bradock, Terran Philosopher, Age of Paranoia, TerraSol

and your brain was once smooth
Captain N'Skrek checked his datalink.
The deep data storage was still at work bringing up information on "Legion" and "Sacajawea". The older databases of the Gray Lady had data at the ready, but it was sparse.
Two of the Biological Apostles of the Digital Omnimessiah, a figure of myth and legend.
Yet, they sat across from him.
They were talking back and forth in a language that the computer's linguistic database had no record of and stubbornly resisted any attempt to decipher it.
What N'Skrek did hear was several words that he recognized.
Daxin the Unfeeling. Daxin Freeborn. Chromium Saint Peter. Enraged Phillip. Matthias the Elder. Matthias the Younger. Kibuka. Kalki. Gravity.
A litany that left data scrolling down the empty space just beyond the edge of his peripheral vision.
Daxin "The Walking War Crime" Freeborn.
NavInt and MilInt were projecting with an 80% certainty (adjusted downward for unknown probabilities) that the beings in front of him were from that long bygone era.
Finally Captain N'Skrek cleared his throat.
The bald one, Legion, turned to look at the gathered staff officers.
"My apologies. I was catching my sister up on what has transpired since she disappeared," Legion said, smiling gently. He nodded. "You probably have questions."
N'Skrek nodded back. "The biggest one is: how did you..." he thought for a second. "Why did you..." no, that wouldn't work. "What bring about..."
Legion smiled.
"How did I replace all of your clones and why?" he asked. "Why is it that if you print off too many identical clones I show up?"
N'Skrek nodded. "Yes."
Legion looked at the Terran officers and smiled wider. It was a cruel smile, reminding N'Skrek of a hook pointed knife that had been sharpened to a keen edge.
"You didn't tell them? Have you really forgotten about me?" he asked.
"It was assumed to be still prevented by the cloning systems," Vice-Admiral Breakheader stated slowly. "We have only recently been restored ourselves. Less than two months time."
Legion just smiled.
Vice-Admiral Breakheader turned to look at Captain N'Skrek. "Running off too many identical clones causes Legion to manifest. It's why we use the Born Whole system, it ensures they have different brains, different expriences, and they have a slight variation to pore and retinal patterns, hair growth, minor things like that. Otherwise, Legion manifests."
"Why?" N'Skrek asked.
The Vice-Admiral sat silently for a moment before replying. "Because," was all he said.
Legion's smile didn't leave his face.
"Because it is my nature," he said.
Sacajawea said something and Legion replied in the same language, then turned to N'Skrek.
"My sister does not know why she was rebirthed," he said. He looked at her and spoke rapidly. She answered, only a few words, which made Legion reply at length. Again, only a few words.
"It must have been important," N'Skrek interrupted.
"She states that she does not know why the Immortals system did not rebirth her when she died," Legion said. He glanced at her. "She tells me that she died, with her people, when her peaceful planet was attacked."
"By the Mar-gite?" N'Skrek asked.
Again, more conversation.
"Yes," Legion answered. He frowned as she spoke again. "She says they were a peaceful planet. Anarcho-Primitivism. Very little technology. The Mar-gite attacked without warning."
She spoke rapidly and Legion listened.
N'Skrek saw the computer still was not able to parse the language, even though it could build a lexicon of off very little data for almost any other language it encountered.
Legion turned and faced N'Skrek. "She states that she believes it was the fact that some of her people demanded that high technology be left in place in order to allow the six planets her people had settled to remain in contact. That the high tech farming and sustenance industries led the Mar-gite to attack her."
Again, Sacajawea spoke, her head lifted, looking down at Legion.
"Why she was not reborn is unknown to her. She had guided and shepherded her people for thousands of years before the outsiders came. Outsiders drawn by technology, by the abandonment of the old ways," Legion said. He was frowning as he spoke rapidly.
The conversation took a few minutes.
"She said the outsiders came and wiped her people out after entire generations held them off. That in the final battle, they overcame her when her strength failed," Legion said. There was more talking. "She's describing the Mar-gite."
"Where was this?" N'Skrek asked, bringing up a map of the galaxy. "The First Mar-gite War was only three hundred years prior to the Council-Confederacy Conflict and lasted nearly a hundred years," the brought up a sketchy timeline of the era. "When did you encounter the Mar-gite and where?"
Sacajawea spoke again at length. Legion spoke back. It grew heated for a moment before Legion looked at N'Skrek.
"She will not say. She does not want us to defile or desecrate the worlds her people settled. She does not want us to know when or where," he said.
"That might be pertinent information," N'Skrek said. "Important information to keep the Mar-gite from overwhelming the Cygnus-Orion Spur."
Sacajawea spoke quickly, heatedly, half standing up. Legion put his hand on her shoulder, obviously encouraging her to sit down, but she shrugged, throwing off Legion's hand, and her speech got more heated, her eyes flashing with anger.
"She says she will not reveal her people's resting place for us to dig up the graves and desecrate them. That it is not anyone's business where The People have gone or what The People have done," Legion said. He turned and answered her.
The conversation got heated as the N'Skrek and the officers watched.
Finally, Sacajawea stood up and turned around, folding her arms across her chest, lifting her chin.
Legion's skin darkened with anger.
"Then you can tell them that load of bullshit yourself, little sister," he snapped.
He suddenly vanished in a swirl of black powder that evaporated.
N'Skrek saw that Sacajawea was shocked by Legion's disappearance. She stood there for a long moment.
"Dhruv?" she asked mid-air.
N'Skrek motioned his officers to stay silent.
"Dhruv?" she snapped, stomping one foot.
Still silence.
"Luke!' she half-shouted, stamping her foot again.
She turned and looked at the gathered staff officers, who were all staring at her.
"Legion?" she asked quietly.
N'Skrek held up one bladearm.
"It appears, Miss, that you will have to speak for yourself."
Sacajawea frowned and clamped her lips together.
N'Skrek just stared mildly.

Jaskel had just gotten a plate of food and sat down in one corner of the cavernous Dining Bay Twenty-Three.
True, it was a little bit of a walk from the Telkan Marine section to that particular dining facility, but for some reason Jaskel liked the food put out by Nutriforge-Eight better than any of the others.
Like the Gunny always said, it was the little things that count.
He had arranged his silverware, his drink, and given a short prayer when he suddenly wasn't alone.
A slender man in an unfamiliar uniform suddenly appeared at one of the tables on the far side of the Dining Bay. Jaskel watched as two more stepped out of the first. They all sat down and started talking rapidly.
To Jaskel, it sounded like an argument.
It looked like one person arguing with himself.
Jaskel ate quietly and slowly, trying to avoid attracting attention, but watching the Terran out of the corner of his eye.
Terrans were universally half-crazy.
And a Terran arguing with clones of himself was probably full blown crazy.
That, and Jaskel remembered how negligent the display of power had been that had left him hanging upside down in mid-air.
Much to the amusement of his squad mates who watched the video and laughed.
He was down to dessert when the far door opened and a woman entered. Jaskel recognized her instantly as the young adult Terran woman who had appeared nude from the cloning banks, even though she was clad in clothing made of brown material and decorated with beads.
She immediately made a bee-line for the man, who had gotten a plate with a piece of pie on it while the other two argued between each other.
She stopped and stomped on foot, staring down at the sitting man.
"You look stupid," the man, Legion, said when she stopped next to him.
"Dhruv," she snapped. She rattled off words that Jaskel's datalink couldn't translate.
"Not talking to you until you speak Confederate Standard. I know you know it," Legion/Dhruv stated.
She stomped her foot again. "Luke!" she snapped.
Legion looked up. "Part of me, a large part of me, feels that you lost the right to call me by that name."
He went back to eating the pie. When the woman looked at the two clones who were staring at her, they stared back for a moment then puffed into black dust that swirled and vanished.
Jaskel kept watching out of the corner of his eye.
"Dhruv," she snapped.
"Go away, Sacajawea," Legion said.
She stood there for a moment. Then she suddenly leaned forward and slapped the plate of pie away from Legion.
"I will not call you Legion," she suddenly said as the plate clattered against the far bulkhead.
"Go away," Legion said. He looked up. "Let me put it in a way you might understand better: I just want left alone."
The woman stepped back, one hand going to her mouth.
"Yeah, still scared of him, aren't you," Legion said. He stood up. "Or are you?" he moved so he was clear of the table. "Were you ever afraid of him, Sacajawea, or was it all an act?"
Sacajawea looked away. "He was everything wrong with the world, a living reminder of what kind of men destroyed my people."
Legion suddenly laughed. "You forget history, little sister. But, of course, you never had any use for history unless it served your own ends."
Sacajawea stomped her foot. "Dhruv, be nice."
"No," Legion said, his voice low and intent. "I have yet to hear you thank me for what I did in the cloning bay, much less what I did for you before you ran off and left me holding the bag."
your name was luke

"I came back to find Matthias the Elder standing over the sundered murdered code of the Digital Omnimessiah," Legion said. "Then Daxin showed up, Matthias claimed I killed our Digital Father, so I ran."
"And he followed. Intent on killing you," Sacajawea sniffed.
"Yes!' Legion said. "Of course he did! I would have chased me in that situation," Legion said. He stepped forward. "And where were you, Little Sister, when it happened?"
She looked away and sniffed. "I was performing my duty, serving my people. As you well know."
Legion turned around, facing away from her. "Yeah, the people you had me bake up," he turned back around. "Not the poor bastards fighting a slowly losing war against the Mantid. They were your people too, but you left them behind. If it wasn't for the Mechakrautlanders, they'd be extinct with the rest of humanity."
"They had set aside the old ways. I told you that," Sacajawea said. She gave a sniff and turned her head away. "They were too consumed by blood lust, they would not stop fighting, would not embrace the old ways."
"EVERYONE WAS FIGHTING!" Legion shouted in a voice that made Jaskel's drink glass rattle. "There were hab-kids fighting and dying in destroyed hab-blocks in the ruins of megalopolises. It had nothing to do with 'the old ways', it was a fight for survival."
"You would not understand," Sacajawea said. She gave another sniff, still looking away. "I took my people away from where technology and the abandonment of the ways of our people had led us."
Legion stood still for a second.
"Don't give me that shit about your 'people', remember, I touched you. I know the truth," Legion said. He shook his head. "You had a task. A task to help us, help our Digital Father, help all of humanity, but you abandoned it."
"I had a task to help my people," Sacajawea sniffed. "I owed nothing to the world that stood aside or actively took part while my people were destroyed," she looked at Legion. "You wouldn't understand."
Jaskel could see purple electricity snarling around Legion's boots, clawing at the deckplates with thread-thick fingers.
"You were supposed to guide us along the path to the SUDS, so we could save everyone, Sacajawea," Legion said. "You betrayed us. Betrayed them. You were supposed to save them."
"Like they saved my people, Luke?" Sacajawea asked.
"You don't call me that any more, little sister," Legion said. "For the love of the Detainee, fucking let go of shit that doesn't matter any more. We humans have been genocided repeatedly since then."
"I'm not calling you Legion. That reeks of arrogance and pride," Sacajawea said. "And it matters to me, Luke."
"You talk a lot of shit for someone named Bird Woman," Legion snapped back. "How about I call you Tiffany?"
Sacajawea took a step back. "That is not my name. That was never my true name."
"You forget. I could see under that skin job. See who you were born as. I knew the truth, and I've kept it secret for all these eons," Legion said. He turned away. "You left us, left humanity behind on your so-called quest."
He turned back to face her.
"Now, again, we're facing extinction. The Mar-gite, they wiped you out. Now they're here in overwhelming force to the point where I'm not even sure Fortress Sol can hold them off," Legion said. "And you still want to play pretend."
He turned his back on her.
"You're no different than Matthias the Elder," Legion said quietly.
There was a dreadful silence for a long moment.
"I told Daxin, sitting in the parking garage where we used to meet, that we had to let go of the past. Learn from it, admit it happened, but we had to let it all go. The old hatreds, the old angers, the old rage," Legion said softly. "He agreed. He said perhaps it was time for us to leave the mortals behind. Let them go without us dragging baggage from worlds and events dead and gone behind us."
Sacajawea sniffed. "It's different for the two of you, neither one of you had your people..."
"I was a short bake slave clone, Tiffany," Legion said, his voice still soft and quiet. "Just like your family owned."
Sacajawea opened her mouth to answer, her eyes flashing hotly.
"One of millions grown in a vat every year. Made in humanity's image but without its grace," Legion's voice was nearly a whisper. "Our little band of siblings, only Kalki, Gravity, and Daxin came from families that did not order one of me from an online catalogue. Even Bellona lived with my people performing menial labor for her colony."
Sacajawea stepped forward, obviously about to deliver a scathing retort.
"But my people didn't count, did we, Tiffany?" Legion asked. He gave a deep sigh. "I loved you, you know."
Her mouth closed. She looked confused.
"When you left, I created another of you," Legion said quietly. "She was, of course, captured by the Imperium, like all of the Biological Apostles," he looked down at the floor. "It was why they didn't know you'd escaped."
Jaskel wished he was anywhere but in the dining bay.
"Eventually, that version of you threw off the Imperium's chains like we did. She went back to Terra. Worked tirelessly to rebuild. Eventually, led the Dandelion Fleet that became the Sky Nebula Alignment."
It was silent except for the muted sounds a starship under power in Transit Space made.
"I'll go back with you. Translate for you," Legion said, his voice still soft. He turned to face the woman.
"Just... just stop lying, Tiffany," he said.
He was silent a moment.
"I had hoped that it was that version, my version, the version I had been madly in love with, that version of you that had been rebirthed," he said. "The version who guided her people, who succored them, who helped them rebuild, who helped them thrive in the scarred and shattered world Earth had become. I had hoped, when I saw you, that you were her."
the buzzing can still be heard
your name is legion
"But it's just you."
0-0-0-0-0
Captain N'Skrek watched as Legion led Sacajawea into the briefing room.
He had been busy looking up every scrap of information on the Digital Omnimessiah, the Biological Apostles, Legion, and Sacajawea.
Of all of them, information was scarcest, almost non-existent, on Sacajawea.
He waited as the Terran woman took a drink from the glass in front of her.
She looked around.
"During the Human-Mantid War, before the destruction of the Overqueen by the forces of MechaKrautland, before the Liberation of Terra," she started. She closed her eyes, sighed, and opened them. "I begged Vat Grown Luke, who you know as Legion, to clone my people and help me repair and then hijack four colony transports crashed in the Middle Kingdom."
She looked down and Legion reached over and took her hand. She looked startled for a moment, squeezed Legion's hand gently, and looked back up.
"I led my people away. From the Imperium, from Terra, from the War," she said. She reached out and touched the holo-emitter, bringing up a map of the Milky Way. She touched a single arm.
"I led them here. For over eight thousand years my people knew peace, prosperity, and plenty," she said. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and exhaled sharply.
N'Skrek recognized it as a sign of stress in Terrans.
"Roughly twelve hundred Terran Standard Years prior to the Council-Confederacy Conflict, we were attacked," she said. She looked down. "I had sworn to protect my people, to use my powers to protect my people, which had grown to fill six worlds."
She looked back up.
"The Mar-gite destroyed my people in under a decade," she said. She looked down again. "And me with them."
"A glitch in the system prevented her from moving to Afterlife or being rebirthed," Legion said. "A glitch I had caused when I helped her."
"The Mar-gite destroyed my people here," Sacajawea said, her voice filled with pain.
A single cluster of six stars burned brightly.
Deep in the Scutum-Crux Arm.
your name is legion

2024.05.15 22:45 KC_187 What are your favourite non-shaving products made by a shaving company?

What’s good about it? What’s bad about it if anything?
I’ll start. I have two.
1-Saponificio Varesino body wash.
The best body wash I’ve ever used. And I’ve tried many.
Good:
-Cleans well -Rich luxurious lather -Doesn’t take much soap to get a good lather -Moisturizing -Many scents to choose from -No sulfates, parabens or other harmful ingredients -Great for people with dry skin or skin issues -Scent lingers on skin after shower -matching scents available in shaving soap, aftershave, bar soap and EDP
Bad:
-Price ($30cad)($22usd) for 350ml but I stock up on Black Friday and get 20% off. -Most scents are way too mild for me but I like stronger scents. -Inconsistency of scent strength for different scents. (Desert Vetiver is strong. Opuntia, Morado and Stella Alpina are medium. And the rest are all very light.)
2-Geo F Trumpers Extract of Limes Hair Cream
Good:
-Great scent that lasts -Light hold with natural look -No residue or flakes left in hair -Moisturizes and softens hair -Washes out easily -Need very little product so will last a long time
Bad:
-Price ($40cad) ($30usd) for 200ml but buy on sale to save money. -Not good for people who want a strong hold or high shine.
That’s it. What are yours?

2024.05.15 17:34 Ok_Presentation_9227 Should I switch from Tret to Arazlo or Differin?

Hi there!
Wondering if anyone can offer some advice…
In October of 2021, I saw a dermatologist who prescribed Biacna topical gel clindamycin 1.2% Tretinoin 0.025% and used for 14 weeks+
I got a bit creeped out by the antibiotic, so I switched to Tret cream, used 0.025%, then went up to 0.5%(tried each for 3+months) then began micro gel 0.1 retin A on dec 9th 2023 as I heard the gel was more effective for closed comedones. I have used tret daily, but use it about 3 times a week now. I have experienced purging in the past.
Recently, I saw an facialist who did tons of extractions and told me to switch to a physical exfoliant and to add cumin seed oil (moringa oil) at night. For the past 2 months or so, I have simplified my routine and don’t wear makeup but use an tinted sunscreen and Saie Slip tint.
AM:
Mineral sunscreens (Think Daily, Babo bontanicals, Supergoop)
Saie slip tint
PM:
Oil cleanse with jojoba or almond oil to remove sunscreen
Youth the People Superfood Cleaner
Avene cicalfate
Cumin seed oil (organic, cold pressed)
Tret about 3 times a week
Physical exfoliant 3 times a week
I have tried azelaic acid, BHA, AHA, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, Aztec clay, Nizoral, lactic acid, slugging, and still use the De la Cruz sulfur treatment occasionally.
Overall, my skin is still quite congested and I have new pimples forming. I never experienced glass skin or any form of tret glow. I am wondering if I should try switching to Arazlo Cream 0.045% or Differin gel (0.3 or 0.1)
Thanks in advance!!!!

2024.05.15 16:20 Honest-File9357 Why I'm vehemently FTP

Tl;dr Version for anyone who doesn't want to read a bit of a rant: This game is way too damn greedy. <--
Important Edit: I'm new to reddit but guess I'm just not allowed to talk because I have slightly negative Karma? I'll just try to edit this as I see more and more comments I can't respond to, or DM if you feel like it ig.
Some Various disclaimers and background information before the rant:
  1. No, this is post is not to shame people who aren't FTP. Do what you want with your money, I just want to explain why I don't think I'll ever support this game financially and see how the rest of the community feels. This is also not some propaganda to get you to either not spend money or stop spending money, or in other words by all means keep supporting Shift-Up and their products, do you boo.
  2. I'm not the biggest gacha game player, I've only played two prior to this (Girls Frontline and some Star Wars one), both that I did end up throwing a little money at to support them despite Nikke ultimately being more fun imo (just to show no, I'm not against in game purchases for free games out of principle). Big bold letters here tho incase you missed it: I HAVE PLAYED GACHA GAMES BEFORE
  3. I do enjoy this game and don't imagine I'll stop playing any time soon, as far as phone games go this is probably the most fun I've had (not the highest bar to set, I know). More big bold letters, because I know you like them (icky small letters go away >: ( I DO LIKE THIS GAME
  4. I understand that ultimately the goal of any game is to generate income, and I don't hold it against any game. Rather I have a problem with how this game "encourages" you to spend money.
  5. I started playing this game during the RE:Zero collab and quickly came to this conclusion, don't know what ultimately compelled me to rant about it (maybe just one too many all blue pulls)
Okay with that out the way let's get to the meat of the issue, which can honestly be summarized to 2 main sins so hell get ready for another list I guess : ^ )
1.The top heavy nature of the roster. "When everybody's special, no one will be"- Angry animated ginger dude (rip in peace). When I first started playing this game and doing some pulls I felt like a superstar, I mean wow I'm pulling all these super rares like it's nothing, even got all my counter girls maxed out and after about ~60 pulls I've managed 2 super super rares! Then I started to notice how all these "super rares" seem to have all hit max limit break and peeked at the Nikkepedia to realize the sad truth of this game. Given my past experiences with gacha I expected maybe something like 30% of the roster to be "SSR", not 95%. What's even more baffling is that the SSR actually does have it's own subcategory of "hey, these are actually the super rare ones" with Pilgrims having a miniscule chance to pull. I didn't want to put a list inside my list ( yo dawg, heard you like lists) but there's a few reasons why I really dislike this, and it was getting more and more "massive block of text" while I typed it so sorry.
-The first and probably most readily apparent issue being that it means you're unlocking new characters at a snails pace. It feels like the intended way to unlock new characters is to throw thousands of gems/ recruit rosters at the slot machine so you can do the high quality mold to actually have a chance (more on this later) to get a new character. I realize luck is a subjective matter, and yeah I've seen posts from people bragging about pulling 4-5 SSR in a pull, but objectively speaking the other gacha games were far more generous with the unlocking of new characters.
-Secondly, and probably what I hate the most, is that these "SSR" are simply not created equally (putting aside the obvious and aforementioned "actual SSR" of the pilgrims). I'm not saying every Nikke has to be an absolute powerhouse (more on this later) but if you want to make Nikkes that are just inferior versions of other Nikkes or have kits that just straight up aren't good, I dunno chief...maybe put them in a lower tier of the roster? Hell putting aside the meta/ actually caring about the kits of your waifus let's just talk about the lore/ backstory of these characters. Matis (my favorite squad, big hearts and kisses especially for Drake), the super star hero squad and best the Missilis company has to offer? Okay sure, makes sense they're SRR. Prima Donna Nikkes that...work in the music industry for some reason? Uh okay not sure why these military bots are making music but they're famous ig so why not, SSR it is. Oh hey Absolute, Rapi's former squad and supposed elite of Elysion now that's a contender for SSR for sure. Maid for you, Nikkes that run a maid cafe...well let's make em SSR. Okay okay I shouldn't hawk on the waifu game having waifus that are character archetypes even if it makes absolutely no sense in the setting of the game but you still get the point right? You have characters that are presented to you as the cream of the crop (in other words have lore friendly reasons to be classified as SSR) thrown into the same category of rarity of characters that work in maid cafes or other random civilian jobs/ hobbies. This all putting aside the actual strength of these character's kits (Matis is pretty good at least, big hearts and kisses) I'm simply referring to the story reasons for characters to be presented as "SSR".
-Thirdly this all just reeks of some system you see in a lot of games where they use certain words to artificially make you feel more accomplished, if that makes any sense. The lowest tier (of absolute garbage) is referred to as "rare", the slightly better but ultimately still useless (<3 u Rapi/ Anne) tier is "super rare", and the bulk of the roster is "super super rare." Fellas, that's not how the word "rare" works at all. I feel like most games at least refer to their filler trash as "common" or the like so why does the game call the, in lore, mass produced no personality foot soldier Nikkes "rare"? This leads back to "SSR" having it's own category of rarity, did they realize "SSSR" would look and sound stupid so that's why Pilgrims don't have their own category? I dunno, could have called it "ultra super dooper cream your pants because you're a real winner rare" or they could have just (alongside making some of the "unworthies" a lower tier) gone with 4 tiers with a more honest and conventional naming system (common- uncommon-rare-epic) but they didn't because that doesn't trigger the dopamine in slack jawed gamer so they like you more and spend more money or whatever reason so many games use terminology that feels like patting you on the back. Almost lost my cool there, sounding a lil schizo huh? Let's move on to the other main point to save face.
  1. The way progression is handled (and how that ties to the roster) "When you come to it and you can't go through it and you can't knock it down, you know that you've found the wall, the wall, the wall." -Mark Henry (still kicking, I think). Gacha games, or really most games, have parts that are for the cream of the crop. The real go getters (or go spenders) who invest a lot of time (or money) into the game and are rewarded for it. Usually these are things like raids or other limited time events, typically speaking though it's not the main story of the game that's the major hurdle for the playerbase to surmount. Typically speaking there's a slow and steady incline of requirements for players to progress through the story of a game, be it skill (let's be honest, not really a factor for gacha games) or equipment/loot, but not here. Instead you have rapidly increasing arbitrary "recommended power levels" (yes, we'll talk about this later) coupled with a massive middle finger in the form of level limit/ limit breaking in a nice package of pain and inconvenience, because I hate you for enjoying and caring about the story we wrote (which the game will proceed to spoil in events, which have a way lower bar of entry) or something idk. Jamie, pull up that list again.
-So pulling a SRR is "accomplishment" enough, pulling the same SRR 3 more times is whack crazy luck, doing that whole process 5 times is insultingly absurd (b-buh muh Kilo tho, because rip anybody who wasn't here for this event). Technically speaking there are systems in place to make this easier, but both of them are still hella rough. You can either use the wishlist feature (on the normal recruitment, and not for pilgrims) to cut out the massive bloat of SRR you don't care about and still pray on that 4% chance or you can grind out 200 total recruits to get mileage tickets to knock out one of 20 pulls you'll need in order to get pass this wall. You've already seen posts either lamenting their luck or singing praises to lord because after months people have managed this, and imo that is not a good system of progression for the main story of your game. I don't have a problem with there being content that encourages you to spend money, for heavens sake they have a "hard campaign" (which is just the same lay out of campaign maps with massively spiked up requirements with the same exact rewards as the normal story, minus the actual story part) so why not just let people enjoy the normal campaign. It comes off as a really cheap and scummy way to encourage people to spend money, holding the story of your game hostage. Just lower the requirements of the normal campaign, I'm sure older players don't have the "naw these new players need to suffer like I suffered" mentality, nobody is going to be mad at you.
-Oh yeah, recommended power levels. A lot of games have the system of "increase your number to keep up with the enemies increasing number" but none of those feels like a slap in the face as this game's system of "you'll either meet this required number or we'll just nerf your damage to the ground" (evidently the exact percentage of this used to be a lot worse before they patched it, further proof that the playerbase isn't against the game being made more accessible). This is probably the part where the Nikke superfan tells me I just have a massive skill issue and it's totally possible to clear these missions at a deficit, and this is absolutely true. I've seem some superstars talking about clearing levels while under 20k or more the recommended amount (I've only managed 10k, all thanks to Crown whom I love and cherish) and you know what the secret to success is? I just hinted at it in those parenthesis but it comes down to pulling "the right" SSR Nikkes. Okay that's a little disingenuous , as there's a little bit of skill/ understanding of the games system involved and grinding out the various resources you need to level said actually good SSR Nikkes, but it doesn't change the fact that there are Nikkes you actually want if you care about progressing through the game and there's all the ones you don't that seemingly only exist to reduce your chances of pulling these Nikkes. Let's backtrack to that "wishlist" system for a bit, which is what is intended to make sure you get the (non pilgrim) Nikkes you want like Liter or Tia. You'll recall that the wishlist doesn't increase your total chance to pull a SRR (makes sense) but just ensures that you only pull the designated SSR, but the problem is this only applies to this normal pulling. It is still my opinion that most of the SSR you're gonna get are going to come from the various molds, which cleverly has no such system of wishliting (because let's be honest, this would probably destroy any incentive to pay money for people who don't care about costumes). So you're either dealing with a system of most likely not getting any SSR from normal pulling or having a slim chance of pulling the SSR you need (assuming you even pull a SSR to begin with) with the mold, neither of which sound too appealing to me
-Speaking of molds, and this probably going to be my most controversial take (or at the least the most demanding), it is blatantly unfair that high quality and company molds aren't a guaranteed SSR. In the case of of the high quality mold the process of getting one is slow enough (I maybe manage 1 a week, outside of events or CD redemption that may give more) and there are enough SSR (putting aside the fact that you want to pull the same SSR multiple times anyway) that I really don't think it would be that bad if you just don't let us get kicked in the gut by pulling Neon after all that effort. In the case of the company specific molds from the tribe towers you are quite literally hard limited to pulling 3-7 a day (assuming of course you have a squad capable of tackling the tower), and you're going to make them have an even lower total chance of a SSR than the normal high quality mold. I'm only half way to my pilgrim mold (I had to wait till crown before I even felt like starting the tower, because even doing the easiest levels is mind numbing with just one Nikke) but I've heard horror stories of going 5 pilgrim molds with no pilgrim in sight, and ngl I may just weep when it's my turn to experience that. If you want to further reduce the acquisition of molds to still encourage some spending that's fine by me, but please let us have some safety net in this ruthless Nikke grind.
That's pretty much it for the rant so I just want to finish with some closing thoughts. I really do like this game, honest, and I wouldn't mind supporting it if it just didn't make me feel so used and abused. There are plenty of games with microtransactions or additional content where it feels like you're buying them because you want to support the dev, not because it feels like they're holding a gun to your head, and I just want this game to feel more like the former. I'm happy to discuss this rant further if anybody has their own ideas and opinions (or even if people just want to defend the game) so let me know what yall think, assuming you even read that blob of text up there.

2024.05.15 15:01 wegge3 Tret cream 0.1 to Taz gel 0.05

Anything I should know to help ease the transition? I'm one of those crazy people that's able to apply 0.1% tret cream every night without sandwich method and slug after it ever since I started (probably because I was on Differin for 3 years prior).
Anyway, it's a gel, and it's tazarotene, so I'm a little scared lol.
AM Panoxyl 4% BP cleanser 1% clindamycin lotion Vanicream Moisturizing Cream (optional in the morning) Neutrogena Sheer Zinc SPF 50 (super casty but my skin loves it...i apply multiple times daily) or the walgreens mineral spf 50
PM double cleanse with CeraVe Hydrating Cream-to-Foam Retin-A 0.1% cream THICK layer of the vanicream in the tub🔥 vaseline sometimes
Any advice is appreciated. Derm said to start 3x weekly or every other day at first, so I'm going to do that.

2024.05.15 10:04 No-Height-8584 Zo Skin cured my Acne

I (28f) I’ve been dealing with the worst skin of my life for the past three years. I quit hormonal birth control, which I’ve been on since the age of 16 and all of a sudden was dealing with acne for the first time of my life.
We’re not talking about a little breakout here and there we’re talking full hormonal acne that would get drastically worse every month. My self confidence tanked and there were some days I would refuse to leave the house. I’ve cried a lot over this.
Now I was not kind to my skin in my early 20s either. Tanning booth, drinking, late nights. I was definitely seeing the effects. Before I quit birth control I started using some retinol and Botox trying to get my skin to look young again. Unfortunately the retinal caused me to dry and then when I quit the birth control, the overall inflammation was a disaster.
I was a cystic acne mess with deep wrinkles. Who knew they could co exist…
Fast-forward years later, I’ve tried nearly everything from microdermabrasion, led lights, differin gel, to thousands on skincare, Morpheus8 and everything in between with zero to no luck. The one thing that was working the best was actually doing less. It seemed the more I tried the more irritated things got. But I’m impatient and hate feeling like I’m not doing something about the problem.
I finally started working with a new dermatologist (I’ve been through like four at this point) and this was the first one who uses Zo Skin Health.
She did a peel. it was a bit dry, but overall not bad and then set me up with a skincare routine that includes the exfoliating cleanser twice a day, the oil control pads, the hydrating cream, and a 50+ SPF
Prior to this I would’ve said no that’s too much exfoliation. My skin is red and dry anyways this is gonna be horrible but I trusted her.
My skin is never red or inflamed. The cleaners leaves it soft not tight. I have gotten rid of almost every fine line. oh my God am I glad I trusted her.
Don’t get me wrong. It wasn’t easy. The first month, i had little breakouts every time I would wake up with a couple big cystic ones. But they all came to a head and went away within a day or two. Not like differen which would leave marks. It was a process, everything that was in my skin came out. I could tell it was purging though so I stuck with it.
Now I’m sitting pretty, my skin better than it was in my early 20s. I do not have feel oily mud day, my skin is never red or inflamed. I have gotten rid of almost every fine line, I’m getting sooo many compliments! The marks are fading and I can start treating the scars (they have also raised)
I’m still in disbelief. No it’s not 100% perfect. There’s small whiteheads here and there that pop up in the morning, but they are gone once I wash my face and don’t leave marks.
I think this routine is the one for me for a while. I look forward to adding a vitamin c in the future.

almost 2 years and still acne 🥲
I’ve been using tretinoin since Jan 2023. I initially was using tret cream 0.05, went through a long period of purge, and then finally switched to tret gel 0.01. My skin adjusted way better to the lower strength, and now I’m able to use tret every night without irritation or flakiness. I have also incorporated BHA and I find it helps a lot with texture. However, I still have acne. Pictured is my skin today.
Anyone got any pointers for me? I’m getting an appointment with a new dermatologist (my current derm is not very accessible for me), but wondering what I can do in the meantime to improve.
My routine: AM — Cetaphil cleanser, Hypochlorous acid spray, Stratia Lipid Gold, Goodal sunscreen
PM (Tret) — Micellar water, Cetaphil cleanser, Hypochlorous acid spray, Stratia Lipid Gold, Tret gel 0.01, Stratia Lipid Gold
PM (BHA, Monday & Friday) — Micellar water, Cetaphil cleanser, Hypochlorous acid spray, Obagi BHA 2%, Stratia Lipid Gold
I have oily skin and the weather has warmed up where I live, so I find Lipid Gold is sufficient for moisture. In the winter I use the Aestura 365 Cream.

2024.05.15 03:06 MoPacIsAPerfectLoop Azelaic Acid - how is the generic prescription gel tube so much 'nicer' than the skincare brand formulations!? What other secrets have you been hiding?

Maybe I just haven't tried enough of the skincare 10% versions, but most recently I've been using The Ordinary's 10% suspension for Azelaic Acid.
Well, I wanted to try the 15% prescription strength so asked my PCP to write a script for the generic finacea - so just generic 15% azelaic acid gel tube. Insurance even picked up the bill, so it was $10 for a 50g tube!
I've now been using it for a couple of days and I like it SO MUCH more than The Ordinary's. It goes on so smooth, even though it's a gel it feels more like a light lotion or cream. It dries nicely, is not quite at 'matte' as the name-brand lower potency stuff, and frankly is less irritating.
Imagine that - cheaper, generic, larger tube, nicer feel & application, less irritation!
What other secrets are out there where the cheaper & more potent version of a product is substantially better than the 'fancy' stuff?

2024.05.15 03:03 Ohaidere519 birthdays are always rough

i honestly dread my birthday every year (this year's comes up this weekend). it always highlights just how lonely And alone i am :( the effort i see going into other people's birthdays, especially from those i considered close friends, stings so hard. my parents get me a cake and card every year, but i only recently realized that i haven't had a birthday cake in a flavor that i like in years, maybe ever (i think i remember an ice cream cake back in elementary school)
it's pretty sad but i also realized that a surprise party has always been a lowkey dream of mine- it happening would be indicative of so many things ive been desperate for, finally being mine. a social group large enough and that cares about me enough to fill up a party about me, at least one close trusted loved one who knows me and my people well enough to organize it.. i struggle with emotional permanence and remembering that people do think about me when im not immediately around, and believing that any small efforts i do receive from friends aren't just superficial or to save face, so a surprise party would also address those issues (not cure them per say but it would be reassuring). a group of people working behind the scenes, aka not just to placate me, to make an event for and about me.. haha wow imagine..!! it sounds so nice and heartwarming and i get choked up imagining it ever happening to me heh
anyway strength and love to everyone who's also dealt with birthday blues and thank you for a space i can get this off my chest without judgment in (dw im in therapy lol im just in between sessions atm) <3 ill buy myself a slice of cake in a fave flavor at least

2024.05.15 02:49 fender1878 Two Weeks on the Sun Princess: A Comprehensive Review

In case you don't know, the Sun Princess is Princess Cruises' latest behemoth ship. I just got back from a 2-week sailing and took meticulous notes on this epic new vessel. Here's my extremely detailed, no-BS review:

The Sheer Size is Nuts

When I say this ship is massive, I mean it's absolutely nuts how big this floating city is. Especially when you get off in ports and have to walk back down the dock to reboard - that's when the sheer scale of the Sun Princess really hits you. Even though it carries a ton of people, the only time it really felt crowded was during breakfast. The Eatery fills up quick and the International Cafe, which sits outside The Eatery doesn't lend itself well for crowds of people wiaint for their coffees. You kind of end up waiting in the middle of where the walking traffic moves.

The Medallion Life

Your entire cruise experience revolves around the new Medallion wearable device and app, for better or worse. I'll admit it has some creepy "Big Brother" vibes with how much it tracks your every movement and purchase. But the convenience it provides is undeniable.
The medallion is your modern day "cruise card" that you tap everywhere to make payments, order drinks, unlock your stateroom, get on/off the ship, and more. But what's crazy is the app can use the medallion to detect your location anywhere on board. Order a drink or meal through the app and the server will manage to find you anywhere on the ship to deliver it, usually within 15 minutes. Caveat: there were times when it took longer and other times when our order was marked "delivered" and it never arrived.
The medallion definitely feels like getting on/off the ship is way faster. The only time we ever waiting in line was for the few minutes it took people to run through security.
This made getting food/drinks almost too easy. On port days when we needed to get off the ship early for excursions, setting up a scheduled delivery of my Egg McMuffin, fruit plate in coffee was really convenient.
Fair warning though - if you're anti-tracking and value privacy over convenience, the ubiquitous Medallion system may not be for you.
Story: we were sitting by the Crooners bar having our nightly pre-dinner cocktail. The bar was packed on this night for some reason. A staff member in a suit started wandering the room, made eye contact with me from 40-feet away and then made a b-line for us. He wanted to sign us up for a wine/food pairing event they were having. I have to believe this is because of the tracking being done via the meddalion. They could see we drink our share of wine. It definitely felt like targeted marketing.

Premium Package Was Best for Us

We opted for the Premium beverage package at $80 per day and I'm glad we did for a few reasons:
  1. If you need to have more than one device connected to the internet at a time, Premium makes sense just based on that (you can have four devices). The cheaper Plus package only allows one device, which was a non-starter for me needing both my phone and laptop to be online. I'm unfortunately not able to just live off the grid for almost three weeks and need to periodically check in with my clients.
  2. The wine selection is way better with Premium vs Plus. As a wine drinker, the upgrade was 100% worth it.
  3. Two free speciality dining meals are included, which was clutch on our 2-week cruise to break up the repetition of the main dining rotation.
  4. Unlimited premium desserts and ice creams - a nice perk for those with a sweet tooth.
Basically, Premium removed almost any need to think about or worry over costs on board. For $80 per day, the premium drinks, speciality dining, better wines, desserts and internet made it an easy choice for our group's needs.
And for those wondering about the 15 drink per day limit (since there's almost a weekly post asking about it) - it was never an issue for me. I'm a scotch drinker and to get a decent pour, you basically have to order a double. Even drinking doubles, I never got to 15 drinks/day. This even includes sea days where we'd typically have a mimosa or two with breakfast, a few cocktails/beers at the pool, an cocktail or two before dinner and then wine at dinner.

Staff & Service

I can't say enough about how incredible and friendly the service was across the board on the Sun Princess. Our room steward, waiters, bartenders - everyone went so above and beyond daily, it really elevated the experience. I'm always amazed how they remember everyone's names.
However, we did notice a clear slip in the quality of service in the second week compared to the first, likely due to a crew changeover partway through our sailing. Simple things like forgetting drink orders or getting meals wrong became more frequent from our new set of MDR servers.

Suites & Staterooms

We originally booked a balcony room. When the bid offer came in I followed some old advice and just placed bids on upgrades because "you don't have to take the offer if you don't like it." Well guess what, that's not the case anymore. My offer was accepted and we automatically became the proud recipients of a Reserve Mini-Suite for an additional $500. In hindsight, I'm glad it worked out. The room has noticably more space than a standard balcony room. These mini-suites are spacious, basically a separate living room and bedroom divided by a curtain you can close off. Having two TVs and an extra closet was great.
As mini-suite guests we also received a nice amenity of free premium wines in our room - on the second week they even topped us up with two more complementary bottles! I guess each week is looked at as a new sailing -- so you get two more bottles! Some older posts complained about the wine quality. It looks like it's been upgraded because we received a Pinot Noir and Chard from La Crema. Being California wine people, La Crema works great for us. If you can swing it, I'd highly recommend going for a mini-suite over a regular balcony.
That being said, I'd avoid the "Cabana" balcony suites. The layout is really bizarre and in my opinion a downgrade. When you walk out onto your balcony, it's not really a balcony. There's another area in front of your balcony that connects a few other cabana suites. The idea is that a few rooms share a private balcony with jacuzzi. However, it also means that walking out onto your balcony doesn't give you a private ocean view because there's this 20-30 feet of additional patio in front of you and everyone above you just looks down into your balcony area.
They've done a great job with the power situation in these rooms. Every outlet has a USA 110v plug, a Euro plug, a USB-C and a USB-A plug. There are outlets by the desk area and with each nightstand on both sides of the bed. Since we had ample USB outlets, all we really needed a regular USA outlet for was the blow dryer. Don't get tricked! There's what looks like a two-prong USA outlet by the sink in the bathroom. It has a funky icon next to it. This outlet is for charging an electronic razor -- that's the only kind of plug that will fit in this outlet so don't try and jam another device in there -- it won't work. My mom tripped the breaker in her state room by running the hair dryer while her curling iron was on -- so beware ladies!

Dining Highs & Lows

Main Dining Rooms

It can be confusing because there are three floors (Decks 6, 7 and 8). We reserved dining in the Deck 6 MDR prior to the trip via the app for the first few days just so we knew there was a guaranteed place to eat. On night one, the dining room manager introduced himself to us and said he went ahead and booked our table for us every night of the trip. If we didn't show, it was fine.
Food quality in the main dining rooms (MDRs) was consistently good across breakfast and dinner. On port days, it's an "express breakfast" which just means a shorter list of options. Nothing mind-blowing, but solid and tasty. My biggest gripe here is the operating hours. On sea days, the MDR closes for breakfast at 9:00am. You basically have to choose between sleeping in a little, hitting the gym, or getting a decent breakfast.
Pro-Tip: Biggest breakfast tip is stay away from the scrammbled eggs -- they're gross. We figured out that the scrambled eggs come from a bag. If you want real, cracked eggs, either get an omelett or over easy/medium/hard/etc.

Reserve Suite Dining Access

The Reserve mini-suite gives you access to the Reserve Restaurant. It's a little bit more elevated of a dining experience and reservations aren't needed -- you just show up. We dined her a few times and it did feel more elevated. Unlike the MDR, the server in the Reserve Restaurant feels more personal because they're handling smaller groups.

Lido Deck

For more casual fare, the Lido deck had some surprises like an awesome made-to-order salad bar station that became my go-to for healthier meals between all the indulgent dining. The burger grill, taco station and pizza areas were pretty standard, but that salad bar slapped.

Lackluster Buffet

On the flip side, The Eatery buffet left a lot to be desired. Despite different themed stations, the quality was mid at best. We largely avoided eating at the buffet outside of quick breakfast grabs. The Eatery closes for breakfast around 10:00 AM. At which point if you move further into the ship, the restaurants that are normall Catch and Butcherblock become a buffet extension that's opened later -- it's kind of funky.
The layout of the buffet is weird and leaves people wondering if they're cutting in line especially when you go to the extended buffet at Catch/Butcherblock.
What's odd to me is you can go grab a million cheese plates, fruit plates or hummus/veggie plates at the buffet. But if you order those things through the Medallion app, it's not "complimentary." You have to pay like $4.99-$5.99 for those items. We still can't figure out why it costs $5 to order a tiny cheese plate but ordering a cheeseburger is free.

Specialty Dining Winners

We used our two speciality dining credits at Crown Grill and Butcher's Block by Dario. I was a little worried because I had read mixed reviews on here about both of these restaurants. However, both meals were really good and before you come at me, I'm a foodie guy -- I'd tell you if they sucked.
We chose Crown for my parent's anniversay dinner. The service was awesome and they made us all feel really special. The setup here is like a steakhouse, where you order your beef and then the sides are a la carte family style. We had a group of seven -- the manager just said "we'll bring you out all the sides, enough for your whole party" which was great.
The next week, we hit up Butcher's Block by Dario. I've never left a meal more full on a cruise ship than at this place. It's family style dining and they just bring out everything for you -- almost like a brazilian barbecue place. We started with a bread appetizer and a glass of wine while you wait for them to get the dining room setup. Then there's more bread on the table + veggies. Then the food starts coming out: beef tartar; beef carpaccio; etc. The main event is the massive tomahawks and porterhouse steaks they carve up tableside. They'll just keep putting beef on your plate until you beg them to stop. Finally, there's desert and a grappa digestif.
Both restaurants were great experiences and a very welcomed change from the MDR after a week of repetition. The food, service and overall vibe were a noticeable step up.

Spellbound

We also splurged one night for the Spellbound immersive magic/dinner experience and it was easily a cruise highlight despite the $150/pp price tag. After an elevated multi-course meal, you get ushered by a guy in a top hat into an exclusive hidden club. While waiting for the magic show, you hang out in their bar which is reminiscent of the Dinseyland Haunted Mansion. While enjoying your drink, there's a magician perorming more intement magic for everyone at the bar. Once they're ready for the show, you're brought into the room where the actual magic show takes place. Afterwards, you're welcome to hang out in the Spellbound bar and continue drinking.
If you're from LA, you probably know about the Magic Castle in Hollywood. Spellbound is an extension of the Magic Castle. Just like with the Magic Castle, you show up in formal wear. This means a coat and tie for the men and an evening gown/dress for the woman.
Overall, we really enjoyed it.

Room Service

This was hit or miss for us. You fill out the paper door hangar and place it on your doorknob before heading to bed. Then you hope and pray that it will actually arrive -- which in two of our instances, it never did. Your options are also super limited. You also may or may not receive what you actually ordered. With coffee for instance, you have a choice of ordering it to-go (paper cup) or stay (actual coffe cup). We always seemed to get the opposite of what we ordered to the point where it became a running joke for us.

International Cafe

This became our goto for a lot of things: coffee, snacks, quick breakfast food (pastries, coffee cake, avodcado toast, Egg McMuffins). Werid fact though: if you order the Egg McMuffin through the app, it comes as an egg patty just like McDonalds and with cheese. When you get the one at International Cafe, it's just an over easy egg and no cheese. Why they can't just be the same is odd.

Night Owl Needs

My main dining gripe was the lack of solid late night food options for us night owls. The Eatery buffet closed at an absurd 10:30pm, leaving only spotty room service or mobile ordering as the choices if you worked up an appetite after evening activities. More robust late-night casual dining would be appreciated.

Bars & Alcohol

Overall, great selection of cocktails. All of the bars have their own little theme and different menus. The ladies I was with were consitently impressed at the quality and thought of the cocktails at each bar. They were also super impressed with the quality of the glassware being used. I must admit, everything from the rocks glasses to the martini glasses really were beautiful.
If you just want straight spirits, you have to order a double to get a normal pour (they're actually measuring out the pours). That being said, with either Plus or Premium, you'll get a good selection of top quality booze.
You gotta try really hard to hit the 15-drink max. Some days I had drinks at breakfast, during the day, lunch, before dinner, during dinner and after dinner. I never hit my max.
One thing that impressed me was staff actually being concerned about drink quality. We were having drinks at one of the bars on the Lido deck. The supervisor was upset with the bartenders because they ran out of premium liquor and hadn't requested more. He made sure to remind them that when someone orders a premium drink they get a premium liquor -- no exceptions.
You also must checkout the Good Spirits bar. There's a few times throughout the night where you watch a live cocktail demonstration. The bartenders at GS are so fun and playful -- really makes for a great vibe.

Amenities - Hits & Misses

The gym facilities on board were a bit of a disappointment, especially for a new ship. While they had a nice assortment of cardio machines, the actual weight room was laughably small with only a few pieces of strength equipment that were always monopolized. Not a deal-breaker, but an area that could be improved.
The pool areas were nicely spread out across different sections of the Lido deck. On sailing days, there was typically a band, the DJ and then a random movie on the jumbotron. The random blasting of action movies at 3pm really ruined the pool vibe and it's typically when the deck would thin out. One minute you're relaxing in the jacuzzi, the next an action movie with explosions is shaking the pool area. It made no sense and seemed tailored for a much younger crowd despite this sailing's passengers being mostly older adults.

Technology & Support

In addition to the Medallion app, the overall internet speeds on board were fast and reliable enough for me to easily stay connected for basic work needs.
The technology support via the app's live chat feature, however, was utterly useless. Any time we had issues properly being charged for drink packages or had to modify reservations, the live chat was a time-wasting nightmare. You're clearly just talking to an outsourced rep with zero actual knowledge of Princess' systems or operations. Your best bet is to go in-person to the guest services desk.

2024.05.14 21:30 ajamal_00 Stay with me... I have thought this through. Ok?

What come to your mind when you hear the word 'cake'?
Maybe a round birthday cake with candles, or a Tehzeeb/Bread & Butter black forest or fresh cream pineapple cake, with cherries on top?
Stay with me now... I have thought this through...
The 'cakes' I mentioned above are the western concept of cake... not ours... our cake is from the corner bakery; rectangular, with yellow slices... that's the Pakistani version.. sometimes it has jellies inside, but mostly it does not... its plain...
Stay with me... I really have thought this through...
The western cakes, with cherries on top, are not 'us'. We can imitate them as they make them in the west (I live in the UK, so trust me when I say the west is better at those cakes). We will never be as good at those.
I assure you, that when its tea time, I want the desi cake... the western ones just don't do it for me.. and then there is cake rusk... like, screw every biscuit ever made..
I am getting there, just stay with me... I have thought this through.. here we go...
If our team tries to imitate the SENA nations in its approach, we will do ok, but not great. We wont be playing to our strengths... we need to play to our strengths...
Our team is a bakery cake, rectangular, yellow, plain, not spectacular... but its ours. and come tea time (World Cup) we need to play to our strengths... Babar is the bakery cake (classic desi) with the jellies inside.. when you get one of those jellies in your mouth (the innings today) its just great!... he is not gonna have the cherries on top (career strike rate over 150, finisher like Virat) but cherries don't belong on a desi cake you know, and we should stop trying to pretend otherwise...
