50x30 in duffle bags

I know l'm making the right decision. It just hurts.

2024.05.29 03:23 thyawkwardfriend I know l'm making the right decision. It just hurts.

Hello! In advance I apologize for any grammar mistakes. I just need someone to talk to.
23F I just broke off my engagement to my fiancée 33M. We have been together for 6 years . Outside of all adult responsibilities . This man was my “Best friend”. Same music taste, Similar Interests. Same humor. Loves to travel, never had to force a conversation. etc just naming a few. From the start of our relationship I met him 3 weeks fresh our of high school. He was in a very tough spot. My Fiancée at the time didn’t have a car so 4 months into the relationship and I spent all my graduation money + savings on surprising him with a new car. Within that same year he cheated. (I forgave him but made him delete all social media and I do check his phone regularly.) Through out the first two years of our relationship I got his credit fixed, his debt paid off and got him on a straight path including getting his record straightened out( by this time I’m 19 going on 20) I thought that would absolutely show him how dedicated I was to him and our future. Show him How he didn’t have to struggle alone. Yes I was a young teenager but Ive been working since I was 15. I had my own money why not help someone in need?? Fast forward multiple years of this relationship. I handle all house hold responsibilities along with both of our taxes, Bills and car maintenance etc all adult responsibilities you can think of I handle. He would tell me how appreciative he was and how he couldn’t imagine life without me etc. I felt like he valued me . Through this relationship he’s cheated 3 times. I forgave him everytime. ( now looking back I believed I wouldn’t have ever found better so I took him back so I wouldn’t mess up my chance at finally having a husband). (Over these last 2 years i’m just now getting my confidence and realizing I am actually k good looking I think). I showed up alot for this man and made alot of serious life sacrifices to help him. he’s never showed up for me without me having to beg multiple times . Last week I simply asked him “Why do you never get my flowers or write me back love letters?” He knows how much I love the idea and thought of love letters. He loves it too. I wake up early every morning before he goes to work. I pack his lunch box and write a love letter EVERY morning. (not exaggerating) he has duffle bag he keeps filled with all my love notes to him.
His response to my Question: I know you’ve asked me for them before but to be honest i’m just not there in our relationship yet to be getting you flowers”
Me: “What do you mean you aren’t there yet??”
His response: “You want all these extravagant things but I’m not there yet emotionally to give that to you. You need to be patient with me, You’ll get that from me down the line”
That hurt me a lot. So I asked him how could he say that after all the stuff Ive bring to the table? All the things I do to make sure his life is easier for solely just him. I don’t deserve flowers from you yet??
He just responded saying how it may not be fair to me but that’s just where he is at. I asked him how can you say you aren’t emontionally there to get me flowers but you made the decision to purpose to me in front of your whole family. (Literally just his whole family, when I asked where was mine he said he totally forgot to think about any of them… He didn’t even ask my dad for his blessings)…. Selfish!
His response:” Because I love you so much. I have no doubt you’d be an amazing wife, my mom loves you, my family adores you. I know if I have kids with you our kids will be loved and raised right. You’re always there for me so I know you’ll always be there for my family and our future kids. You act like such a great wife already. “
In that moment I told him I couldn’t do it anymore and that I was done. He was so confused. He asked why. And how he can change and If I really wanted flowers that bad to just “text me on the days you want them and I’ll go pick it up it’s that easy” “You want to leave me over Flowers?”.
I want the love I give to be reciprocated. I want to have peace of mind knowing if something goes wrong in life I have my future husband to fall back on or even simply just call. I want to be given flowers without asking. I want love letters. I want date nights. I want to be a more feminine woman and not be the one taking both of our cars to mechanics for Oil changes, alignments, Tune Ups etc. I want all the years love and sacrifice I put into this relationship to have meant something. I feel used I feel like I was completely used and taken for granted. I thought being with an Older man would come with stability and a man that can lead and teach me, someone I can learn from. That was the sole reason I stayed I thought once I was able to get him out of his rut he would be able to be the man he talked so much about being but 6 years later. He hasn’t progressed at all. He looks to me the person 10 years younger than him to get things done with shame or any inkling in his body to help make anything easier for me. I can’t do this anymore, I’m not happy .I want to live life like a 23 year old should. I’ve never been to the club. I’ve never had a girls night. I’ve never even sat at the bar before. I never lived solely just for myself. I never done alot of the normal things a regular early women in her 20’s would have experienced. I sacrificed alot for him and it all was for nothing. I’m so hurt and angry. It’s been 3 weeks no contact. But just yesterday a friend of mine sent me a video of him spotted with his best friends blowing money (that he owes me) at a strip club. I’m trying to just let go and let God but I’m so angry. I robbed myself out of so much young experiences I should’ve had by now.
How do I force myself to Unlove someone I genuinely cared about so much?
TL;DR: Asked Fiancé of 6 year for Flowers and a Love letter . Got denied. Told me he’s not emotionally “there yet” to get me flowers… but was able to purpose to me??

At the warehouse, the holy quintet and dummies deal with the situation and penoru decides to make the gel himself, as kilotus refuses. However, kilotus agrees to make it, only to have a condition to make it in a desert only 83 miles away from mitakihara town and mitakihara city. The holy quintet, homura, kyosuko and the dummies succeed in making it, and call Boss willow and her henchman. Despite the agreement, she and the henchman force homura, kyosuko, holy quintet and dummies to make the hair gel via gunpoint, as kalios is excluded due to the henchman tying him outside the RV. During the experiment, penoru uses the wrong ingredient, causing the gel to explode, forcing Robert and Huey to exit as they lock willow and her henchman inside. penoru frees kalios, mizli and blizana and the holy quintet, homura, kyosuko and the dummies escape in the RV because of a fire caused by a cigarette from the henchman.
The scene goes where the episode had begun. The dummies and holy quintet drive through the desert in the RV with gas masks. 2024.05.28 19:54 dadadarwin Family Camping tent

I'm curious as to what tents you may have come across using over the years or recently. Maybe you've seen it online, in store, or out in a campsite. I figured I could get some of my questions answered although it feels like I'm looking for something pretty obscure - nothing fancy or super technical but with a few features that I really appreciate.
  1. 6 person tent - I don't need the double room tent. I don't really want it to be super tall although the average looks around 6 foot to 6'6". Looking for a tent to be under that 25 lbs mark when packed.
  2. Aluminum poles - I know this drives the price up but it's not really a deal breaker. I just don't really like old school fiberglass poles. I do like elastic shock cord in the pole for easy set up though. I know the Stoic Madrone (4-6) has aluminum poles which was surprising to me because the tents were under the $300 price tag.
  3. Full rain fly - I really want the rain fly to cover the whole tent. Having a good vestibule is a definite plus. The Kelty Rumpus 6 looks super promising, also because of this next detail.
  4. Inventive storage bag - I'm really liking the "shark mouth" duffle style bag that Kelty tents come with right now. The bag that comes with the Sierra Designs Tabernash is cool too. I know the REI base camp/kingdom tents and Big Agnes tents come in some really nice storage bags too, but those tents are known to be pretty expensive. I think the goal is to go away from those cylindrical-tube style cinch at the top bags. If you have recommendations for a duffle bag to ditch the OEM bag altogether, I may be open to that too.
I'm open to all suggestions and ideas. I actually just purchased the quest redwood 6 (from dicks) to see what that tent is like. I'm curious to hear what else is out there especially from new brands I've overlooked or never knew.
Thanks!

2024.05.28 18:20 ZookeepergameOld4985 I was staying in the psych ward of a very old hospital

Years ago I was recovering from a severe manic episode, I was doing well and nearly discharged. I had just moved into a new private room because of my old roommate’s terrible snoring. I put my duffle bag on the small bed. The room was cold, dark and empty. I went to brush my teeth in the little side bathroom. Suddenly I saw a whispy white figure through the mirror moving across the room. I turned around and my duffle bag was now on the floor beside the door. I put it back on the bed, perplexed and stunned. I’ve had delusions and seen a lot of weird things suffering from the acute psychosis of mania, but never has an object just moved by itself. I also peered into an empty room late at night in the same psych ward and saw the dark figure of a woman standing there, facing the wall with what seemed to be magazine clippings swirling around her violently. I have no explanation for either experience. Some people I share this with think it was just my bipolar disorder or new medications playing tricks on me. I have excellent visual memory and what I saw was far too real for that to be the case. I don’t make up stories, my life is too weird for anything but non-fiction.

2024.05.28 16:52 --lewis What is this horrible smelling hedge called?

What is this horrible smelling hedge called?
It smells kind of like a mix between a wet raincoat that's been stuffed in a duffle bag all weekend, and vomit/feet.
It must be to do with the blight/brown spots all over it, the next house over had the same hedges but no brown marks and no smell.
In my job I see lots of different hedges in gardens all over the place, I've noticed that this type are either fine and pleasant, or stink something awfull!
It not my hedge by the way, I am looking at getting some hedges, but I want to make sure I don't get this species for obvious reasons. Thank you for your input.

2024.05.28 16:34 ExperienceDear5636 8 days in Oaxaca: bring home craft items

I’m going to Oaxaca in August. I want to one bag on the return at least because I have a tight connection. So I’m planning to bring either my Motherlode or my old Gregory 45L duffle, packed very light. Also a foldie. On the return I’ll pack my purchases in the larger bag and pack extras in the foldie. I’m thinking I won’t buy pottery, but I will buy textiles. I’m flying American Airlines. Experienced one baggers: does this sound feasible?

2024.05.28 03:33 Crazeeeyez 26L to 30L pack comparison (and one 36-ish)

26L to 30L pack comparison (and one 36-ish)
WARNING: Long post with lots of links to picture albums.
I can't help myself. I wish I could. I have problems. Thanks for putting up with me.
Following up on my 40L-45L comparison, then my 35L-45L comparison, and my 6L-9L sling adventures, I now have my 26L-30L backpack comparisons!
Part of the reason my sizing keeps going down is I'm getting better (IMHO) at minimizing and packing (thanks to experience, gear, and the ManyBaggers & onebag communities). In this pack, I've got a 3 (could easily be 5) day work trip packed:
My methodology:
  • Use pouches to simplify moving stuff between so many bags.
  • Spending as little time as possible packing each bag.
  • Not optimizing each pack - follow a basic pattern.
  • Prefer quick access to iPad, headphones, pillow, eye mask, and a few other things when getting on the plane. I want to get my stuff out and put the bag in the overhead bin very quickly.
    • In an ideal world, I would have a quick-grab bag inside my bag with all my plane needs. I used my Tom Bihn Side Hustle in some of my later tests, where I felt confident it could fit and be accessible - both removing it when boarding and reloading it quickly when deplaning.
My caveats:
  • I'm opinionated. I try to share my opinions but there are times my opinion(s) show through. If you disagree I look forward to your reviews and I will always have an open mind!
  • I'm not comprehensive (though the length of this post might make you think otherwise). I jotted down notes as I went. I encourage you to check out Packhacker, One Bag Travels and other reviewers for very comprehensive reviews. I focus on how bags pack, not all the material, hardware, etc.
  • There's a lot here. And I wrote this over many days. So there might be disjointed thoughts and lack of continuity.
Feel free to ask me questions in the comments.

Mystery Ranch Mission Rover 30 - https://imgur.com/a/4OoMoyM

I've gone through the Mission Rover in my other comparisons and it never struck a chord with me. While I actually appreciate the suitcase-style packing, the tech area doesn't work for me. But I like the material and the look in general.
Pros:
  • Comfortable carry. I thought it would feel too big, but it was actually quite good.
  • Appreciate the load lifters.
  • I like the ease of removing the straps and detaching the load lifters.
  • Nice big main compartment
  • Decent secondary compartment/organization
Cons:
  • No tablet area. I had to stack in front of my laptop, which limited how easily it could be accessed.
  • Related, the device/admin area is very small. It's a weird shape in a weird location. However, my niece has the Mission Rover 45 and loves the placement for the device since she uses it as onebag everywhere. So, to each their own.
  • No water bottle pocket
  • No quick access for anything
  • Nowhere for headphones to naturally fit. I used the bottom of the tech panel but they aren't safe in there.
  • No hip belt, even as an option.

Bellroy Venture Ready Pack 26L - https://imgur.com/a/pMVSR5x

This is the first Bellroy backpack I've tested out. My daughter actually chose this bag from online pictures. By the time the Bellroy arrived, she had already started using the Fjallraven Raven 28 and the Raven just worked better for her (more compartments and separation of stuff). I'm returning the Bellroy but thought I'd put it through the paces as well.
Pros:
  • Surprised how much actually fit. Didn't seem that big. A lot of wide open space.
  • Front admin (brain) was impressively big. One of the only bags where I was happy with the quick access for the plane.
  • Side pocket is spacious - I was able to fit my charging kit (Aer Split Kit) after the backpack was packed out.
  • Excellent padding and surprisingly comfortable carry.
Cons:
  • No separate access to laptop or device area. Once it's packed, you're not getting these out.
  • Packing it up was difficult.
  • Had to start closing the zipper to be able to load it up.
  • No room for headphones & water bottle (bottle pocket is too small and unusable when packed out)

Evergoods CTB26 - https://imgur.com/a/UUG9UTj

I know the CTB26 gets a lot of respect, and it's well deserved. I used this as my EDC for a while, only to be replaced by the ULA Ultra Dragonfly (30). I think it'll make a comeback, though. I do appreciate the ease of top-access and the compartments. What I'm realizing is I like compartments with volume without forced organization (e.g. Aer).
Tip: Make sure you use all the compartments on the front panel. There's a lot of volume in there that goes to waste.
Pros:
  • So much quick access. Love the yoke, dump, and slash pockets!
  • I was able to get everything in without using the yoke pocket. I did this intentionally as I don't want to dig through several pockets when getting on a plane.
  • Comfortable enough - definitely feel the weight, but it mostly handles the weight well.
  • Definitely handled the whole packout better than the Bellroy 26L.
Cons:
  • No load lifters or hip belt. Take-it or leave-it comfort. No dialing it in very much. I think the CPL28 is more comfortable, personally.
  • Quite difficult to get everything in and zipped up. Since i have the X-Pac (Phoenix) edition, there's no stretch or forgiveness. I wish I had the nylon version to compare it against.
  • With the main compartment and front pockets packed out, closing the laptop compartment was pretty challenging - the zipper was definitely stressed. You can see the zipper looks pretty tight.

On a recent trip, I was debating between the CPL28 and the CTB35. I chose the CTB35 but had to pack a daypack as well. The CPL28 actually would've handled the trip perfectly, but I appreciated the hip belt of the CTB35. Considering how much time I have to spend standing carrying the backpack (especially in ATL TSA lines - whatta mess even with TSA Pre-Check and Clear Plus), I don't regret prioritizing the hip belt. But the CPL28 would've otherwise been preferable. I actually preferred the back-feel of the CPL28 over the CTB35. Maybe because it's longer and doesn't feel like it's protruding out as much.
Pros:
  • Amazing capacity - I think the length (height?) vs the CTB26 just creates so much usable space. That space is usable both in the main compartment and on the front panel. See my repack with the Side Hustle and water bottle inside.
  • Even with the bag packed out, the laptop compartment zipper felt good and secure.
  • Is "it just works" a pro?
Cons:
  • The same con that always exists with the entire CPL series: No. Water. Bottle. Pockets. This seems like such an easy fix Evergoods!
  • Not enough quick access that holds much. The yoke is OK and the slash pocket doesn't hold much with the front panel loaded up the way I have it.
  • No hip belts even as an option. Considering how much you can fit in there, I feel like they should be an option for travel.

I have been using the Dragonfly as my EDC for several weeks now. I threw it into this ring even though the rated capacity for the main compartment is only about 22L because it's always felt more spacious, which was validated by OneBagTravels capacity test (thanks for the pointer u/fl03xx).
Pros:
  • Punches way above its weight - for the lowest rated capacity bag here, you wouldn't know it.
  • Still had room left in the front mesh and a side pockets.
  • The main compartment is somewhat easy to load. Very easy to tell exactly how much vertical space you have. The sides stay up very nicely.
  • Given its size, I could probably put this under the seat, too.
  • Very strong (ultra) fabric. The fabric and zippers pulled everything closed.
  • So comfortable, even with weight. I have the hip belts and they don't help a lot, but they do their job.
  • The lightest bag here, and I could definitely feel the difference.
Cons:
  • No dedicated tech area, only laptop sleeve on the back. Minimal padding and a very small false bottom (not even sure it's really a false bottom). Nowhere for tablet.
  • When the pack is fully packed out, the laptop compartment gets ridiculously tight. In one of the pictures I am trying to pull out the laptop and it's just lifting up the bag.
  • Nowhere for quick access for flight tech (tablet, headphones).
  • While I appreciate the bag standing on its own, it lean to the side and didn't feel stable.
  • I don't like how ugly and lumpy the front mesh pocket area gets with anything in there.
  • Could be me, but the little plastic hinge to put the hip belt on & off is a PITA compared to the rest of the bags' gatekeeper setup.
  • With a very large (33oz) water bottle, it starts to take main compartment space. Maybe if I had something solid and the main compartment packed solid it would only stretch outwards, not sure.
  • Nowhere to grab onto when closing the bag. If it's a real tight fit, there's nowhere to grab to gain leverage. The Ultra material, in general, doesn't lend itself to finding a way to grab it.

To me, this was a random pickup at REI. I was wondering if my daughter would like it over the Bellroy or Fjallraven. It'll probably go back. I don't dislike it but it won't displace my CPL28.
Side note: I might've liked it better in black, but their blue is not the blue I'd prefer.
Pros:
  • The zippers are actually really awesome. Probably the best I have seen, period. They are smooth, they don't get stuck, they just glide along. And even when I think I must've overpacked, the zipper eat it all up compressing whatever must be compressed.
  • I was able to fit everything in without expansion. I wouldn't say it was great, but it all fit. The expansion is a good option to have, but I wasn't comparing it with expansion. That, to me, defeats the purpose. If I need the expansion it should be on the way back for what was acquired along the way.
  • Lots of padding, everywhere. I think your stuff will be decently protected.
  • The main compartment is very deep. I treated it as a top loader (didn't open the TPU divider from the tech area) and was able to stuff things down effectively (see pictures).
Cons:
  • There's so much padding everywhere. I'm sure (hope) they measured volume with all the padding, but it feels like it's eating volume.
  • The tech compartment and the main compartment steal volume from each other. The TPU(?) divider lets shapes poke through to the other side.
  • The secondary (brain) compartment is fairly big but not big enough for an iPad Pro 11" and headphones.

Patagonia Black Hole MLC Mini - https://imgur.com/a/hOZawlG

https://preview.redd.it/rz1o260ab23d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f91e346acf2ccab0b9cbecce4cc14753a860bdc
For some reason, I've had an aversion to Patagonia bags. I don't know why. Maybe it's the giant branding. Maybe it's the mass-market appeal. Maybe I'm a brand snob. But I saw this in the store and decided to give it a try. I don't regret it. I'm still debating whether I keep it or not. It is a very good bag at this price and size. However, it's not the best at either - it's a good balance.
Pros:
  • The main compartment really is just a wide open tub. One thing I like is that the side walls stay up so you get a good idea of how much space you have left.
  • I like the width of the main compartment. Fit the Thule Medium Compression cube in width-wise creating more room at the top of the bag for other long items.
  • The front panel has a lot some good volume. It's not quick grab, but don't forget to use it.
  • Comes with a good built-in hip belt (that doubles as a shoulder strap; I didn't try it as a duffle). The hip belt helped move some weight away from my shoulders.
  • The tech compartment (in the back clamshell) works well. The main compartment and tech compartments do steal space from each other, but the bag does help you with compression.
Cons:
  • While there is a top pocket, it's pretty small. Nowhere to really put quick grab items.
  • I had to get it pretty low on my back in order to engage the hip belts. Maybe I've been wearing Evergoods and ULA for too long, but I'm not used to wearing a bag so low.
  • Straps aren't that padded or comfortable. Again, look at what I'm comparing to (Tom Bihn, Dragonfly, Evergoods).
  • I don't understand the point of the mesh divider between the front panel and the main compartment. Putting it away eats space at the bottom of the bag. Keeping it in place just adds more zippers you have to deal with to get to your stuff. If the mesh provided compression, maybe it would make sense, but as it stands it's useless.

Tom Bihn Synik 30 -

https://preview.redd.it/jj7mm3aib23d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5adb83c48a5b2d3fc5dacf8cbc544f5ef74ff52a
I just got the Tom Bihn and the Dragonfly 36 as I was finishing up all the other photos. So very little experience with either and they're both brand new to me.
Tip: Pack the bottom compartment first. While it doesn't share a lot of volume with the interior, things in the interior pocket will overlap.
Pros:
  • I think it's the TARDIS of backpacks. I could keep putting stuff in the front pockets and there'd still be more room. Especially that bottom pocket. I didn't realize how much had been shoved in there till I was emptying it out!
  • Very comfortable even without the waist strap or hip belt. Both helped move some weight away from the shoulders.
  • The various pockets and compartments are a pro and a con. But if you can use them, it's a big pro.
  • The dual access to the laptop initially seemed kinda dumb to me. However, even in just my test packing, I find myself using the dual access more often than I thought I would.
  • The laptop compartment volume isn't eaten away by a bunch of extra padding. If you don't have a laptop with you, you don't really lose any space.
  • Compresses (just push it down) really nicely. Can be used as an EDC at destination without it looking like you're carrying around a beast of a bag.
Cons:
  • Geezus Tom Bihn, why all the zippers and all the jangle?! The first thing I have to do with every Tom Bihn bag is add some zipper silencing. This bag has so many damn zippers, it's going to take a while!
  • My Thule packing cube wasn't great for the Synik. I got the Peak Design cube about the same time and moved everything to the Peak Design (just pick up the stack and move it in, no refold or restack) which fit much better.
  • The various pockets and compartments are a pro and a con. If you have large pouches and cubes, you're gonna have a hard time outside of the main compartment and maybe the bottom compartment.
  • Only one handle (on top). At this point, I guess I'm used to side handles on bags this size. But this is not meant to be carried duffle-style at all (even the luggage passthrough is for vertical orientation).

ULA Dragonfly (36L) - https://imgur.com/a/PdGtPSh

I received this bag after doing all my packs but had not emptied my cube yet. I was so excited to give this one a try! I love my Dragonfly 30 but it really couldn't handle my trips. I only included it here because the main body is **rated** at 26L.
Pros:
  • Plenty of leftover space.
  • It's basically a large bucket.
  • I just love the big stretch pockets. Even more space on this bigger bag!
Cons (basically all the cons of the 30 apply here too):
  • Laptop is not protected enough. It's the same as on the Dragonfly 30, but for some reason I notice it more on the 36.
  • A bit too narrow of a body for this much capacity.
  • Because of the way the panel opens, and the additional capacity, I feel like loading this all the way up requires more finessing of the material at the top of the opening.
  • Had a harder time standing up, for some reason.

Kinda a rando bag throw in here. My daughter (followed by my son) wanted this bag for school. My daughter likes it because it has many many compartments and areas to put things, which is not how I pack (even for my EDC). But, since I just got the bag and it's in the volume range, I included it.
Pros:
  • Not a long bag. If you have a shorter torso, this will fit you great.
  • Even though it's sticking out far, it doesn't sag like you see most bookbags sagging.
  • You can designate a whole compartment for quick grab (flight) items if you want. However, the compartments are of different sizes so you have to plan and pack appropriately.
Cons:
  • Because it's not long, it sticks out quite a ways from your back. Be sure to pack heavier things closer to you otherwise it's really pulling you down. And it's a hazard if you're swinging your body around.
  • The water bottle pockets have no volume of their own and they are fabric not any kind of stretchy material. With the bag fully packed out, I couldn't get any movement of those side pockets to get a water bottle in.
  • Doesn't fully open (clamshell or panel). This is a con for me based on personal preference. That said, my daughter likes it because she really only wants top access. YMMV.

Random bonus: Cotopaxi (Unknown model - Salesforce TrailheaDX swag - Maybe Nazca 24L Travel Pack (also here)?) - https://imgur.com/a/VhbpcqC

https://preview.redd.it/wm826n9pb23d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=158de52a7707b6591e3fa7029a7dc9cd81987671
I started getting rid of my swag bags last year before realizing some were actually quite nice bags. I had hung on to this one for some reason. I looked at the cotopaxi site but I can't find a bag like this (they don't have an archives site I could find). I happened to find some eBay listings Giving for Good (linked above) that pointed me to the model name.
Pros:
  • I was very surprised by how much fit in here. I hadn't really ever used this bag (free logo'd swag just sits around for me, I don't do advertising).
  • The two big compartments remind me of Pakt, Mystery Ranch Mission Rover 45, or Tortuga bags (which is a compliment). Good amount of depth/volume on each side.
  • Feels OK on the back. Mediocre padding, but I think that's typical for Cotopaxi (from reading/watching others' reviews - I don't have any other Cotopaxi bags).
Cons:
  • Because it's a complete suitcase-style bag inside, there's nowhere for quick grab (iPad Pro, headphones, etc.). Even if I tried with the Side Hustle, I would have nowhere to quick grab it from.
  • The laptop (or whatever you put in the main compartment if you don't have a laptop) gives the bag all its structure. No framesheet.
  • Speaking of the laptop, with the main compartments packed out, the laptop compartment was really tight.
  • No hip belts, not even as an option. I realize you shouldn't need it at this size, but many others in this post do have waist/hip belts as an option.
Edit 5/28/24: adding another bag!

Evergoods CHZ26 - https://imgur.com/a/53t2JqA

How did I forget I have this bag? And it's right there in the range! Actually, it's because my wife uses this bag. I'm actually not a fan of this bag because I don't prefer top loaders and it generally doesn't stand up on it's own (though it did when I packed it out completely).
Pros:
  • Did much better than the Bellroy Venture Ready Pack 26L.
  • I was able to fit the Side Hustle in for quick grab.
    • As an aside, at 26L, I'm pretty sure this could be a personal item and sit at my fit. However, I don't like giving up legroom, so I still want to put the bag in the overhead bins.
  • Bag carried comfortably even fully loaded.
  • Bag stood up while completely packed out.
  • Great water bottle pockets.
Cons:
  • It's a top loader, so you have to shove things down. I guess the nice thing about it is you don't have to close the bag and fight the zipper to see if it'll close. If it shoves, it fits. But I don't prefer it.
  • The brain (aka rhino horn) creates an imbalance making it hard to figure out how to get the bag to stand up.
  • Only one top quick access.
  • The top quick access was impeded by the packout (see picture). None of my other Evergoods bags exhibit this type of impediment between the yoke access and the main compartment.
  • I don't like the laptop in the main compartment, but you don't lose space to extra padding and zippers, etc.

2024.05.28 02:26 Possible-Silly Frustrated with cargo space

I recently purchased a 2023 GX 460 and really like the car a a lot. However, I took it for our first road trip this weekend and realized that the cargo space is a lot smaller than I anticipated. I used to have an Infiniti JX35 (now the QX60). In my Infiniti, I could easily fit my golf clubs, duffle bags, and my golden retriever in the back. This weekend I really struggled to get my clubs, duffle bags and dog… my fault, I know…just venting and a bit frustrated. I really which that Lexus made a model that that was the size of a Yukon, Wagoneer or Tahoe.

2024.05.28 01:39 OvenSignificant3810 Airline travel: personal item only with suits - Some reviews and looking for more recommendations

Have you ever booked a budget airline (Frontier, Spirit, Breeze) for a cheap weekend ticket to attend a wedding? I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I have been looking for the ideal weekend travel bag that has a dedicated suit compartment. Yes, you can use some special folds to protect the shoulders, but I'm honestly more focused on protecting my suit material from everything else I toss in my bag. I've browed across several subreddits ( navyblazer, mensfashion, ManyBaggers, onebag ) for some old posts on the topic and couldn't see many options listed.
Technically this bag doesn't exist because suit carriers have a 22 inch width to accommodate the shoulders of men's suiting; however, I feel like some are close enough to pass without getting called out. After all, I've never been called out for my Mystery Ranch 2DAP even though it's 21 inches tall.
Below are some of the ones I've gotten in to see if any of them are perfect for the scenario listed above. Please let me know if there are any others out there that might work!
  1. Briggs and Riley Garment Duffle ($369): This one is great as a weekender option if you aren't flying. It is well built, and the zippers are fantastic; but it is way too big to pass an eye test. There is a compartment on the front that can fit my 13inch MacBook Air.
  2. CRUITBILI 2 in 1 Canvas Leather Suit Luggage Garment Bag ($140 on Amazon): This one is a knock off of the Bennet Winch design seen in James Bond. I did not want to pay the $1000+ for Bennet Winch, although I am sure the quality is much better. The canvas is very stiff and waxy. Also way too big to take as a person item. The benefit of this design over the Briggs and Riley bag is that you can access the suit without taking everything out of your duffel.
  3. Tumi Tri-Fold Garment Carrier ($750): Really well built with a substantial front compartment for extra clothes. It can fit a laptop, but you'll need a sleeve. Again, too large for personal item. If money was no object I might get this to use in conjunction with a check-in luggage.
  4. TravelPro Platinum Elite Tri-Fold ($230 on Amazon): This is the first one of the set that can actually sneak pass as a personal item. It is very compact and well-built; surprisingly feels as nice as the ones from Briggs&Riley and Tumi. Although it can definitely hold enough clothes for a 3 day weekend and a pair of dress shoes, it is significantly less capacity than the aforementioned options. The only thing I wish it had was a padded laptop compartment. The front has a sleeve that can fit iPad, but for larger laptops you should use a sleeve.
  5. Henty Co-Pilot Backpack ($289 on Amazon): This one is about the size of my Mystery Ranch 2DAP, so I would be comfortable risking it as a personal item. It's great that there's a dedicated, padded laptop compartment and quick access slots on the outside for storing items at the airport. While the overall bag feels well built, the zippers and buckles are hell. Although I can excuse the non-smooth zipper pulls because of waterproofing, there's no justification for how hard you have to push on the plastic buckles to attach the two bags.
Ultimately I'm still debating between options 4 and 5. Although I like the features of 5 more, the buckles and zippers really drive me kinda crazy.
Anyway, I hope this helps other people and if anyone else has other ideas, please do tell!

2024.05.27 23:45 Chaos_Inbound Regionals Overhead Bag Size Question

About to start flying regionals frequently (CRJ900 mostly) and am looking for a quality bag (preferably roller if possible) that will fit in the overhead bin. I’ve done a ton of digging online but haven’t found a clear cut answer on bags that will fit outside of a duffle/backpack. I’ve seen some mention staying under 7.9 inch width for a perfect fit.
My preferred brand is BriggsRiley but open to others with similar quality. I’m platinum so I’ll typically get at least comfort+ for early boarding.
Anyone know the max dimensions that will fit in a delta regional overhead bin?

2024.05.27 22:57 Crunchie_Cat Help finding this fabric in similar color

I’m making a bag to transport sporting goods. Sometimes my gear can be wet or muddy so I’m looking for waterproof/easy to clean fabrics. I like pvc coated canvas but it seems like there are limited colors available. I really like the color and look of this bag and I would like to find color options in a material like this. I’m also new to this type of sewing so I’m not sure what needles/thread would be best to utilize. Thanks for any input!

2024.05.27 20:43 EmoXan Doggie Door Doug

Doug was what you'd call a not very good person. Growing up Doug lie and cheat, lying about how it was his sister's fault that their $2,000 vase to get her in trouble just to put a smile on his face. He'd beat up both his brother and sister and would always get away with it. As an adult Doug would only because a worse person, as he had no regard for anybody in the world but himself and his ego. Doug would berate, humiliate, and on a few occasions beat women, he'd cause fights at the bar just to see if he could win, but there was one thing that Doug would do something that would get him in a lot more trouble.
Doug made his living, besides a "bland" office job, by stealing other people's living. He would find the most wealthy targets through the dark web and sneak inside their house at night after disabling their alarms and cameras. Despite Doug's barbaric personality, he was incredibly smart when it came to knowing how to make someone's life a living Hell. But there was one way in the house Doug liked to go through due to his sleek figure, and that was the doggie door.
Doug heard of a new house being built down the block, down the left of his street at the end of the road. Doug seemed to think only he noticed the house as when asked around about in the town nobody knew anything about it. Despite this, once the home was completed and Doug found out it already had a family moved in he went to make his move.
Doug packed his favorite suppressed pistol, his flashlight, and his dufflebag to slide through his entryway and made it to the house. Doug noticed there was no car, which was odd as the people who lived here according to his new dark web partner, was a cardiologist and an accountant. "Maybe the accountant had a weekend call. Doesn't matter to me." Doug said out loud. He looked for alarms on his app he bought off the dark web but there were none, "Easy Pickens."
Doug slid his duffle bag through the doggie door then crawled on through it with ease before he grabbed his bag and took out his pistol to begin looting the house. A vase and an authentic 1945 vinyl record here, then an original 1885 sawed off shotgun and a see through case of gold 1700 coins there already earned Doug nearly half a million dollars. But this just wasn't enough to please greedy Doug.
As Doug was approaching the hallway, he noticed that all the doors were opened. But this wasn't what confused Doug but it was that he didn't hear anything when there was supposedly a German Sheppard size dog in the house with food and water bowls he was staring at. Doug shrugged and walked down the hallway and looked for the bedroom, finding it across the hall from the bathroom door. Doug went in opened the drawers to take the oddly placed valuables that already increased his profit to over a million dollars.
Doug smiled to himself and went to leave when he noticed that there wasn't a dog anywhere to be found. Then as Doug stood there he heard everything stop, by everything it included the sound of the running ceiling ceasing and was replaced by breathing. Doug exited the bedroom and went back into the living room where the breathing increased in volume and rhythm as if someone was hyperventilating. "Come out!" Doug shouted. And it did just that.
Twisted red eyes, a wide mouth that was pushing red mist out of it with undistinguishable liquids dripping out of it, long arms that were connected to massive hands with serrated fingers that clung onto the hallway's walls like a spider, all connected and apart of a caved in head and a body that was wrapped in liquid covered chains. It was the height of the ceiling and had a face that looked as if it had seen all of Earth's greatest tragedies while having a love for humanity.
Doug fired his pistol at the entity in its head and body but it didn't seem to affect the being. But as Doug did shoot the creature it let out a stream of liquid from its eyes, it was crying and letting out a disheartened sob as it bled profusely. "Put it back!" It howled as it dropped to its knees. "Put it back please!" The creature sobbed. Doug's pistol ran out of ammo and once it did he sprinted for the door he came in through with his duffel bag, pushing the bag through the door. "You'll be like me, you can't be like me!" Doug heard behind him as he struggled to get through the door. The doggie door curtain felt like it was a thousand pounds, but Doug pushed through it.
Halfway out of the doggie door Doug clung onto his duffel bag as he tried pulling himself out of the doggie door. Doug was about to get his legs through when they were pulled back through it, forcing Doug to hold onto the sides of the door. "Greed! Greed!" The creature bellowed as Doug screamed. CRUNCH CRACK, "You'll be damned like me, you can't!" The entity wailed. Doug screamed one last time before falling limp as he heard the monster cry, "You'll be like me, nobody can be me."
Doggie Door Doug was what he was known as. He was called that because he was found stuck in a doggie door, everything below his waist was crushed by a massive weight. Doggie Door Doug had everything he wanted in life, except for a good life.

2024.05.27 18:05 CountryTomato [PI] In a world where magic exists, everyone is tested for magic potential at the age of 18. Paisley Greendale's results were... unexpected to say the least.

The original prompt can be found here.
Paisley sat on the wooden bench outside of the director’s office. She had watched the dust motes drift in the sunbeams filtering through the hall’s windows until the light had sunk behind the trees. Stars had started to appear thirty minutes ago.
Her stomach rolled and she wasn’t sure if it was hunger or nerves. She’d taken the test with the rest of the students this morning. She hadn’t cheated - that was impossible anyways - and she thought she’d done okay but instead of receiving her results with the rest of the students, she’d been called to the office and had been waiting outside ever since.
Paisley had tried listening through the thick oak door, but her attempts had been foiled when the director cast a spell to muffle their words. Important people began showing up shortly after.
The Governor. Principals of Iron Gate and Leeway and Thorn Universities. Heads of the Magic Regulation and Testing Departments. Others she didn’t recognize. Each gave her an odd look as they left, but not one said a word.
Paisley itched to stand up, to pace, to peek through the window to the office, but she forced herself to sit, her knee bouncing in anticipation.
Finally, the door opened.
“Miss. Greendale,” the director’s assistant said, holding the door open.
Paisley stood and straightened her skirt then nervously stepped into the office, her legs tingling from having sat for so long.
“Have a seat.” The director motioned to an empty chair across from his desk.
Behind him stood one of the heads from the Testing Department and the Governor's assistant. Paisley felt her throat go dry.
“I apologize for making you wait for so long,” the man said once Paisley had sat. “This has been rather an… interesting afternoon.” The director gave a small chuckle that didn’t have much levity.
Paisley looked at the man and woman standing behind the director. The head of the Testing Department, a middle aged woman wearing bright red lipstick, gave her a small smile. The governor’s assistant didn’t quite meet Paisley’s eyes.
The director cleared his throat. “To cut to the chase, you did well on the exam. Very well.”
“I didn’t cheat!” Paisley clapped a hand over her mouth. She stared at the small group with wide eyes.
The head of the Testing Department licked her lips. “Of course you didn’t,” she said after a moment. “That’s impossible.”
“That makes your score all the more remarkable.” The director hesitated. “Your score was off the charts.”
“What?” Paisley wasn’t sure she had heard him correctly.
“Your magical potential is higher than anyone in history.”
“What?” Paisley’s voice came out a whisper.
The director nodded.
“B-but that’s not,” Paisley cleared her throat. “That’s not possible. The last person who scored so high…”
“You are three orders of magnitude more powerful than him.”
Paisley stared at the man. He had to be joking. This had to be a joke. The test had to be wrong.
“That’s not possible,” she said, her voice cracking.
“The test isn’t wrong,” the testing department head said.
Paisley shook her head. She had grown up with the stories.
Charlie Barrows. Nearly two decades ago, he had scored two magnitudes higher than the most powerful mages of the day. He had been treated like a prince. The country’s golden child. The best schools. The best teachers. His pick of careers. The world had been laid at his feet. Everyone expected incredible things from him.
Just over five years later, Charlie Barrows snapped. It had taken a small army to stop him, but he’d still escaped.
They never found him.
Now, people pretended he never existed, hoping he didn’t resurface.
Infamous. Deadly. Wanted.
“I’m not like him.”
The director shifted in his seat and glanced over Paisley's shoulder at his assistant. “Of course not,” he said, eyes flicking back to Paisley.
Paisley could have sworn she heard uncertainty in his voice.
“For now, we would like to keep this quiet,” the director continued. “As you may have already guessed, the Governor and the heads of the Magic Departments have been notified, as have the Principles of some of the country’s most prestigious universities. They have begun reaching out to colleagues to begin tutoring.”
Paisley’s head spun. No. No, no no. This wasn’t happening. It was just like the stories.
“I-I don’t want that,” she said.
The director shook his head. “You have a gift, Miss. Greendale. You can help a lot of people.”
Paisley shook her head.
“Just think about it. We’ve contacted your parents, and they are waiting for you outside. They are aware of your potential. Talk it over with them.” The director nodded, signaling the end of the conversation.
After an entire afternoon of waiting, Paisley stood. Her knees shook, but she steeled herself as she turned her back and slowly walked out the door.
Paisley couldn’t be sure if the ride home had been quiet or if her parent’s praises had been muffled by the roaring in her head. She remembered the time she’d been swimming at the lake as a kid and had slipped and lost her footing. The water was murky and she couldn’t be sure which direction was up as the current tugged at her clothes, dragging her along. The voices were quiet and indistinct until a pair of hands caught her and thrust her to the surface.
The orb glowed from the stand on her desk. She wasn’t sure she wanted to talk to anyone. Not yet.
Paisley tapped the crystal ball and Eliza’s smiling face shimmered into existence.
“Lili!” Eliza shrieked, bouncing with excitement. “You’ll never guess! Call me back!”
Paisley swiped to the next message.
“Hey Paze, call me back,” Eliza said, more subdued. “I didn’t see you at the reception. Is everything okay?”
“Seriously, Paisley,” Eliza said in the next message. “Is everything okay? No one has seen you since the test. Did something happen? Call me back.”
Paisley sighed. She really wanted to collapse on her bed and forget today even happened, but she placed her palm on the orb and thought of Eliza’s face.
“You’re alive!” Eliza said a split second later. “I was going to send out a search party.”
Paisley gave a small smile. She knew Eliza had been waiting near her own orb.
“You’re up late,” she said.
“And you look terrible. What happened?”
Paisley hesitated. “Long story,” she finally said. “How was the test?”
Eliza held up her certificate. “Guess who is a brand new class B mage!”
“That’s amazing! What step?”
“Nine! It’s not incredibly high, but I’ll be able to study Alchemical Warding!”
“That’s amazing.”
Eliza had always hoped to study alchemy. A bridge between the magics and the sciences. She had studied hard and with that potential, she’d get into a good school.
“How did you do?”
Paisley glanced away from Eliza, her face distorted and shimmery in the glowing sphere.
“It’s a long story. I’m not supposed to talk about it.”
“Was it bad? Is that why you weren’t at the ceremony?”
Paisley barked a laugh. The absolute irony. She had looked forward to the ceremony for years. She had worked so hard for even a chance at attending. Only those with a high enough potential could attend.
Eliza’s face dropped. “Oh. Oh no. Pails, I’m so sorry. I know how much you wanted this.”
Paisley shook her head and laughed. It wasn’t something to laugh at, and she couldn’t quite explain it, but she laughed. She clutched her stomach and tears rolled down her face and Eliza watched, utterly perplexed, from twenty miles away.
“Paisley?”
Paisley gasped for breath and wiped at the tears streaming down her cheeks. She wasn’t sure if they were from laughing or stress or anger.
“This is so stupid.” Paisley scrubbed at the tears with the back of her hand. “I just… it’s been a long day.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
Yes. Paisley desperately wanted to talk about it. Paisley needed to talk about it. But she wasn’t supposed to talk about it.
“Please,” Paisley said quietly. “You can’t say anything. To anyone.”
Eliza sat in shock when Paisley finished.
“Three orders of magnitude?”
Paisley nodded.
“But, how?” Eliza shook her head. “That’s…”
“Incredible? Amazing? Impossible?” Paisley snorted. “I don’t want this.”
Eliza was quiet. Paisley could hear a faint tapping and knew Eliza was drumming her fingers on her desk as she thought.
“You could do a lot of good with that kind of power.”
“Everyone knows potential doesn’t necessarily equate to power.”
“Unrealized potential,” Eliza corrected. “Your options are limitless.”
Paisley was quiet and the silence stretched between them. Then Eliza stopped drumming her fingers.
“You could also be incredibly dangerous.”
Paisley’s mom shook her awake the next morning two hours before her alarms were set to go off. Light from the front yard filtered through her blinds and cast stark lines across her bed and wall.
“Honey,” her mom said, worry tingeing her voice. “You need to wake up.”
Paisley sat up, bleary eyed. She thought she heard a commotion coming from the front yard.
“What’s going on?”
“Get dressed, honey. There’s people from the Magic Department here for you.”
“What?” Paisley was awake now. “What’s wrong? What’s happening?”
“It’s okay, honey. Just get dressed. They’re waiting for you in the living room.”
When her mom left the room, Paisley slipped to the window and peaked through the blinds. Vans lined the street and the yard was filled with people and cameras and microphones. Someone saw the blinds shift and a few of the cameras started to pan towards her. Paisley dropped the blinds and backed away from the window, her breath coming in quick gasps.
Someone talked.
Paisley quickly threw on some clothes not really caring what they looked like and rushed to the living room. One of the department heads she had seen yesterday stood talking to her parents. Six more men and women wearing business suits and looking like they got a full eight hours of sleep stood alert near the doors and windows.
“Miss. Greendale,” the head said. “I am Mage Selket. I apologize for the early house call, but as you may have guessed from the media parked on your lawn, word has gotten out about your potential. I’ll be frank. This is a precarious situation. People are on edge from the events twenty years ago. We are here to escort you to a safe house until the situation can be resolved. First, I need to know. Did you tell anyone?”
Paisley blinked. She resisted the urge to say ‘Hi Frank, I’m dad’ and tried to process everything he’d said despite the brain fog. Eliza. She’d told Eliza. But Eliza wouldn’t have said anything.
Paisley shook her head. Mage Selket raised an eyebrow and Paisley resisted the urge to blurt out Eliza’s name.
After a moment Selket shrugged. “Do you have a bag packed?”
Before Paisley could say no, her mom handed her a duffle.
“Just some clothes and toiletries until we can bring you some more.”
“You’re not coming?”
“We need to move quickly,” Selket said. “Your parents will be fine.”
Paisley’s mom helped her into a coat. “We’ll bring you some more of your things once things calm down,” she whispered, then gave her a kiss on the cheek.
“Keep your head down,” Selket said. “And say nothing.”
Before she could say another word, Paisley was ushered out the door into a cacophony of voices. Cameras flashed and microphones were pushed at the group. She heard her name called over and over and she resisted the urge to find the faces belonging to the voices she didn’t recognize. The people in business suits cleared a small bubble around her as they hurried her through the mob.
Suddenly, the air beside her compressed and she heard a small pop as a man appeared.
She looked up at him. His sharp nose and curly hair. Something about him seemed familiar.
“Paisley Greendale, I presume?” he asked with a smile.
Paisley heard someone in the ground gasp. It was followed by a split second of silence then yelling as Paisley’s suited guards turned too slowly.
The man placed a hand on her shoulder and bent closer to her ear to be heard over the tumult.
“Charlie Barrows,’ he said loudly. “Hold your breath.”
With a pop, they were gone.
Paisley sat on a plush carpet as Charlie Barrows pounded her on the back between the shoulder blades.
“Breathe, Paisley! Breathe!”
Paisley gasped for breath and began to cough. The edges of her vision fuzzed. It felt like all the air had been squeezed from her lungs.
“There you go,” Charlie said, standing up once Paisley had caught her breath.
She looked around, dazed.
“Where?” she wheezed.
“Welcome to my house,” Charlie said. He grasped her elbow and helped her to her feet. “Apologies for the abrupt rescue. Would you care for some tea? Coffee? Caffeine would probably do you good.”
Paisley was pretty sure she should be furious or terrified or some other emotion befitting a kidnapping, but she was too shocked and tired to fully process everything that had happened. Thirty minutes ago, she’d been sound asleep.
She studied the tall man. He looked normal. An older version of the pictures, but not the terrifying, inhuman monster she’d imagined as a kid. And judging from the shelves lining the walls, an avid reader.
“Coffee, I think,” Charlie said. He clapped his hands together. “We have a lot to discuss. This way!”
He abruptly turned and left the room. Paisley stood for a moment, then she grabbed her bag and followed.
Paisley hesitantly sat at the counter. She looked around the clean but poorly stocked kitchen. The coffee maker in the corner began to bubble and soon the warm smell of cheap coffee filled the small room.
“Do you like toast?” Charlie fiddled with a toaster that looked to be nearly a century old and a major electrical hazard.
Paisley ignored his question. “Why am I here?” she asked quietly.
“Now that is a very complicated question that delves both into scientific and theological aspects," he said over his shoulder. "I believe that every person on the planet has a unique role to fill, a destiny if you may, though a destiny you can shape. If-”
“No,” Paisley interrupted. “What’s going on? Why am I here? Why did you…” She didn’t want to actually say ‘kidnapped’.
“Oh, for your protection.”
“My protection?”
Charlie turned around, confused. “Of course, why else…” He trailed off as realization began to dawn. “Oh. Oh dear. I’ve kidnapped you, haven’t I? Oh dear. But I assure you that was not my intention. You may leave. I’ll pay for transport. Whatever you need. I only ask you to listen to what I have to say first. Do you like eggs?”
Paisley shook her head.
Charlie opened a bag of bread and dropped two slices in the toaster. “There is a lot more to this than what any of those people will ever tell you. You shouldn’t have to learn like I did. And you should be able to choose for yourself.”
Paisley thought for a moment.
“Again, I have no ill will toward you, and you are certainly free to leave at any time,” Charlie said. “I am fully aware of my reputation.”
“You’re not what I expected,” Paisley finally said.
“I should hope not.”
“Well, for one of the most powerful mages in the world, your toast is burning.”
