2024.05.15 12:28 LightbulbBill What would you think if you went to a man’s place (age 30+) and found out he sleeps with plushies/teddy bears?

In a scenario where you are dating a man who is 30+ years old, he seems charming, has no kids but loves dogs. You go on a couple dates, then you decide to go to his place. And then you find out that he is sleeping with a plushie and a teddy bear, both small sized, and when you ask why his reply is “I like cuddling”.
Is it a red flag? Is it cute? Is it an instant turn-off?
He doesn’t have more teddy bears or plushies in the rest of his house.

Kansas

Despite voters overwhelmingly rejecting a constitutional amendment that would have allowed abortion restrictions in the state, Kansas Republicans passed several anti-abortion bills into law late last month, overriding the governor’s veto.
The first bill, HB 2436, makes it a crime to “coerce” someone into having an abortion. Democrats attempted to widen the scope of the bill to include all kinds of reproductive coercion, like pressuring someone to become or stay pregnant and prohibiting their access to birth control, and enshrine a right to “reproductive autonomy.” Republicans voted down the amendment.
The second bill, HB 2749, requires medical facilities and providers to (1) ask patients their reason for having an abortion and (2) report the data, including personal information about the patient, to the legislature every other year. Gov. Laura Kelly (D) agreed with the objections of Democrats and reproductive rights advocates, saying when she vetoed the bill that there is “no valid reason to force a woman to disclose to the legislature why she is seeking an abortion.”
  • Democrats offered numerous amendments to HB 2749, including one to require men to report to the legislature their reasons for having a vasectomy and another requiring men to report why they are seeking treatment for erectile dysfunction. Republicans rejected all of them.
Finally, the Republican legislature overrode Kelly’s line-item veto allocating $2 million to the Pregnancy Compassion Awareness Program, created last year with a different veto override. The program is run by an anti-abortion group called the Kansas Pregnancy Care Network, which refers pregnant people to crisis pregnancy centers designed to use misleading information to discourage them from obtaining an abortion.

Louisiana

Louisiana’s legislature is doubling down on its anti-abortion laws, passing bills to increase criminalization and refusing to add exemptions to its abortion ban.
Earlier this month, the Louisiana House took up a bill passed by the Senate that would make it a crime, punishable by jail time, to possess abortion-inducing medication. SB 276, sponsored by 23 Republicans and one Democrat, was initially written to create a punishment for coercing someone into an abortion without their knowledge or consent (e.g. spiking a drink). However, House legislators recently added an amendment to the bill that classifies mifepristone and misoprostol as Schedule IV substances alongside some opioids and benzodiazepines. A pregnant person possessing the drugs for their own use could not be charged, but others who intend to distribute them to pregnant people seeking an abortion or store them for their own potential future use would face up to ten years in prison.
“Neither is a drug of abuse or dependence, and that is what the controlled drug schedule is for,” said [emergency room Dr. Jennifer] Avegno of the abortion drugs. “It makes no scientific or medical sense to put these drugs in the same category as Xanax or Valium.”
Mifepristone is a drug that blocks a hormone called progesterone, which is necessary for a pregnancy to continue. Misoprostol causes uterine contractions, causing the body to expel the pregnancy tissue. Mifepristone is also used to treat Cushing’s disease, a hormonal disorder. Misoprostol is also used to induce labor, manage a miscarriage and in the treatment of ulcers. Neither are addictive. “People do not go around taking them and getting dependent and having bad outcomes because of it,” said Avegno. “It’s like saying your blood pressure medicine or insulin is a drug of abuse.”
A week later, Republicans on the House Criminal Justice Committee voted 7-4 to reject a bill to add rape and incest exceptions to the state’s total abortion ban. House Bill 164, written by Democratic Rep. Delisha Boyd, would have allowed girls younger than 17 to have abortions if they became pregnant as the result of sexual assault.
“That baby [in the womb] is innocent … We have to hang on to that,” said committee member Rep. Dodie Horton, R-Haughton, who voted against the bill. Rep. Lauren Ventrella, R-Greenwell Spring, also voted against the legislation, saying the proposed law would be difficult to enforce. Teenagers who had consensual sex might feign rape or incest in order to get access to abortion services, she suggested…
Dr. Neelima Sukhavasi, a Baton Rouge doctor specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, also implored the lawmakers to approve Boyd’s proposal. She and her colleagues have delivered babies for pregnant teenagers, including mothers as young as 13, since Louisiana’s abortion ban went into effect two years ago. These young pregnant people can experience health complications that affect them for the rest of their lives, Sukhavasi said, and sometimes don’t have the mental capacity to handle the births. “One of these teenagers delivered a baby while clutching a teddy bear,” she told the committee.
The Committee also killed three other bills: HB 56, to allow abortions in cases of spontaneous miscarriage or nonviable pregnancy; HB 63, to clarify that the removal of an ectopic pregnancy is not an abortion under state law; HB 293, to add protection for physicians who do not intend to induce abortion by prescribing certain medications.

Texas

Meanwhile, in Texas—a state that pioneered the war on women and reproductive rights—a man initiated legal action to sue people who helped his former partner obtain an out-of-state abortion.
The man, Collin Davis, filed a petition in a state district court seeking permission to launch legal depositions to collect evidence for a potential lawsuit under a Texas law that contains civil liability for anyone who “aids and abets” an abortion. According to his lawyer, Jonathan Mitchell (who crafted the anti-abortion law), Davis is seeking to sue “co-conspirators and accomplices…involved in the murder of [his] unborn child.”
“Fathers of aborted fetuses can sue for wrongful death in states with abortion bans, even if the abortion occurs out-of-state,” he wrote. “They can sue anyone who paid for the abortion, anyone who aided or abetted the travel, and anyone involved in the manufacture or distribution of abortion drugs.”
Molly Duane, a senior staff attorney with the Center for Reproductive Rights, described Mitchell’s statement and general approach as misleading “fearmongering.”
“People need to understand that it is not a crime to leave Texas or any other state in the country for an abortion,” said Duane, who is working with lawyers from the firm Arnold & Porter to represent the woman and others targeted in the Davis case. “I don’t want people to be intimidated, but they should be outraged and alarmed.” Duane described the woman’s relationship with Davis as “toxic and harmful.”
Mitchell also represents a different man who pursued a similar claim last year: Marcus Silva engaged Mitchell to sue the friends of his estranged wife for allegedly helping her obtain abortion pills. Evidence later revealed that Silva knew about the plans beforehand and did not intervene, likely intending to use the threat of legal action as a way of forcing his partner to halt divorce proceedings.
Monday’s counterclaim illustrates, in painstaking detail, exactly how Silva—aided by Mitchell—allegedly deployed this tactic. It was only after Brittni’s abortion was complete that Silva revealed he knew about the plan and, according to the lawsuit, threatened to turn her in if she didn’t submit to his continued abuse. He even showed the police photographs of messages discussing the possibility of an abortion. “Once I finally got home with the girls he had been drinking and he told me that he knew,” Brittni texted one friend. “He’s using it against me.” In another message, she wrote, “Now he’s saying if I don’t give him my ‘mind body and soul’ until the end of the divorce, which he’s going to drag out, he’s going to make sure I go to jail for doing it.” […]
The counterclaim points out another flaw in his argument: Silva himself “is responsible for the alleged injury for which he seeks to recover.” He “knew that Brittni planned to terminate her alleged pregnancy and acquiesced in accepting Brittni’s actions,” so “it would be unconscionable to permit him to benefit by changing his position now.” His claims, in short, are barred “by unclean hands,” because he effectively entrapped his estranged wife—covertly discovering her plan to terminate the pregnancy, then allowing her to go through with it for the express purpose of blackmailing her into staying with him.

Indiana

A three-judge panel of the Indiana Court of Appeals last month unanimously recognized a religious freedom challenge to the state’s complete ban on abortion.
The case, brought by Hoosier Jews for Choice and four anonymous women of various faiths, alleges that the ban interferes with “their sincere religious beliefs that require and direct them to obtain abortions” criminalized since the law took effect in 2023. According to Jewish law, a fetus does not have personhood until birth, and abortion is required if the pregnancy endangers the life or health of the mother.
Brief of Hoosier Jews for Choice (and other plaintiffs): As indicated by the declarations of numerous rabbis, Judaism teaches that a fetus becomes a living person only at birth, and prior to that is considered part of the woman’s body, without independent rights. Abortion should occur and is mandated to end a pregnancy that may cause serious consequences to a woman’s mental or physical heath. Judaism also recognizes that physical health risks are not limited to those likely to cause substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function. Judaism stresses the necessity of protecting the physical and mental health of the woman—a life—over the potential for life present in a zygote, embryo, or fetus. Therefore, restrictions that prevent a woman from obtaining an abortion where compelled by Jewish law, which mandates that the woman act to protect her physical or mental health, impose a substantial burden on that person’s religious exercise.
Under Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), “a governmental entity may not substantially burden a personʹs exercise of religion,” defined to include “any exercise of religion, whether or not compelled by, or central to, a system of religious belief.” This means that arguments about whether plaintiffs are strictly observant are irrelevant; the law protects sincerely held religious views regardless of whether that view is idiosyncratic or unorthodox. However, even a law that imposes a substantial burden on the exercise of religion can be enforced if it is “the least restrictive means of furthering [a] compelling governmental interest” (the strict scrutiny test).
The state argued that abortion does not carry “religious significance” and, even if it did, the abortion ban satisfies strict scrutiny because it is “sufficiently narrowly tailored” to “further the State’s interest” in “protecting human lives in the womb.” Throughout Indiana’s brief, the state attempts to use science to back up fetal personhood, extending developmental physiology to make unfounded claims that protected life unquestionably begins at conception:
In lower courts, the State’s compelling interest is not up for debate. In Cheaney v. State, the Indiana Supreme Court held that the State’s interest in protecting unborn children is “valid and compelling” from “the moment of conception.” …A basic understanding of biology supports these holdings. “That human fetuses are human beings is a scientific fact, not a theological claim.” Regardless whether an individual person believes this, “the scientific consensus” is that “[d]evelopment begins at fertilization,” after which the newly created “unicellular zygote divides many times and becomes progressively transformed into a multicellular human being through cell division, migration, growth, and differentiation.” …. Science thus tells us that “[t]he act of performing an induced abortion during any stage of pregnancy, from fertilization up to birth, ends the life of an innocent human being.” The State’s interest in protecting unborn fetal life at any stage from intentional destruction accordingly is nothing less than “compelling.”
A panel of the Indiana Court of Appeals—made up of a Republican appointee and two Democratic appointees—unanimously ruled against the state, upholding a lower court’s injunction against the abortion ban as it applies to the plaintiffs. In the process, the court laid out a path for religious freedom challenges to abortion bans in other states and at the federal level.
The trial court found that absent a preliminary injunction, Plaintiffs would be irreparably harmed by the loss of their religious freedoms guaranteed by RFRA. A loss of First Amendment freedoms, which include the right to free exercise of religion, “for even minimal periods of time, unquestionably constitutes irreparable injury.”... Without a preliminary injunction, Plaintiffs will suffer the loss of their right to exercise their sincere religious beliefs by obtaining an abortion when directed by their religion and prohibited by the Abortion Law. They also have shown their sexual and reproductive lives will continue to be restricted absent the injunction and as a result of the Abortion Law.

2024.05.15 12:01 LongMedal [TOMT] Need help finding a favorite childhood book

Things I can remember about this book (i can't remember much). I feel like if i saw the cover I would know. May have been british
Was completely illustrated in colour.
It must have been made around 1998-2002. I cant quite rember what the book was about but i remember 2 pages vividly.
A big bad wolf was sat under a bridge with a couple of other "bad guys" eating a sandwich that had little piglets in the bread.
Although it had a big bad wolf in it, it wasnt a story about red riding hood or the three little pigs.
There was a big page with i believe to be a wedding cake with little teddy bears (could be wrong about teddys) that jump out for a surprise attack dress in kung fu outfits.
may be able to force my memory to remember more if needed

2024.05.15 11:39 pimp-shrimpura alleged history of schizophrenia in family? unclear but feeling… strange lately

this might be a lot and not the place for this but someone bear with me (22m) please ;_; was talking to my family about my experiences with magic mushrooms, and my grandfather (mom’s side) said something like “be careful, my brother had a schizophrenic episode after taking lsd- we found him rambling about the molecule and he had poorly drawn out a picture of the molecule on the ground.” but i don’t think there’s ever been a conversation about him having schizophrenia? anyway then he went on to ramble about the “this is your brain on drugs”/scrambled eggs commercials that would come on tv a long time ago. and given our family histories which i will elaborate on, i feel like this is a conversation that should have happened much sooner?? or maybe he was just talking out of his ass idk lmao
mental illness seems to run in the family on both sides with alcoholism being pretty prevalent in a lot of both my mom and dad’s relatives. my dad’s brother killed himself with a gun when they were in highschool and my dad found the body. ultimately he became a pretty abusive alcoholic, and he was really prone to mood swings looking back at it. I was put in therapy after my mom divorced him but we never really talked as a family. my older sister inherited his hip deformity that made him unfit for the catholic high school his brothers all went to, and a virus that caused her to have emergency surgery at birth (which left her deaf in both ears, and she stands 4’7” at 25 years old) he picked on her and our older brother a lot, and we all struggle socially. My brother kept to himself a lot until he died at 19 in a freak car accident on a road trip with his friends. Guy with dementia snuck out and got in a car with his dog at like 2am, took an exit ramp onto the highway going the wrong way right as they took the same one, spun out and all then all lights went out, so they got rear ended by a tractor trailer. that model of jeep had a defect where the trailer hitch would break and push in to the gas tank, causing an explosion. happened a couple times prior and was actually almost recalled years before (-: trucking company policy was call your superiors before anyone else, phone records reflected that phone call did in fact happen while those kids were burning to death. i dont blame that poor driver knowing what little i know about trucking and their work conditions, and i got half of a music degree paid for by my share of the settlement. i’ve always felt like that would not have happened if these were not several upper middle class suburban families who were affected by the tragedy, who could afford to pursue legal action for years against an entity like that. I think the community rallied to donate some but even then, it was a fairly affluent community
the last time i saw my dad was at my brothers funeral. i was 14 and it had been a couple years already, but he aged so poorly much i mistook him for his dad who had died a decade prior. i don’t think we spoke until a few years later on the phone, and it was the last time we spoke. he was antagonizing my mom with his usual nonsense that she was making him out to seem like a bad guy to us, and that she was secretly in love with her cousin (who she has always been very close to) — i told him to go fuck himself — that was a reccuring taunt of his our whole childhood, which i always thought was weird but never thought much of it. eventually my brother no longer wanted to visit my mom’s extended family once he had a say in it, and he never really wanted to talk about it either. a few years after my brother died, we were visiting the cousin in question, when i woke up just in time to see them kiss. I went back to sleep like I saw nothing and my sister texted me in the morning telling me she saw the same thing.
Apart from the yknow, incest, she remarried two years before my brother died- so naturally we confronted her about it and she just sort of fawned and said she had too much to drink and that it won’t happen again. they always get too drunk together at family events and I have glimpsed kissy face emojis and other suggestive language on her phone that she obviously was trying to shield with her hands.
Now I’m questioning pretty much everything. I don’t think it was long after that when my dad went missing, which my mom only noticed because he hadn’t sent birthday cards for a whole year, and within a year of that he was found in florida, dead on the street with fentanylin his blood. he was either dosed or killed himself. My family told me he died of natural causes accelerated by his alcoholism when it first happened and didn’t mention the fentanyl until very recently. Im wondering what else could they have they lied about or just have not told me because they don’t think I need to know?
One thing I try not to think too much about is something my mom said just once when I was little, about how when my sister was born the Doctors advised them not to have more kids bc it would be risky, “but I turned out fine” or something. My dad never came to visit our family on my mom’s side that i can remember, and when I was really little we spent a lot more time with her cousin doing a lot of quality time stuff; movies, mini golf, etc. The guy also drank a lot but he’s had better luck kicking the worst of his habits I guess.
JFC what do i make of all of this
….
i also sometimes feel like i’m getting schizo-baited by all of my targeted adds and articles on all of social media and sometimes i feel like im being watched so i don’t go anywhere or talk to my friends much at all. i went to a protest the other day and saw the typical undercover cop in his “hello fellow kids” getup, next day I step out of work to go to a coffee shop and the same dude in the same outfit is sitting next to the door when i go to leave. anyway please advise

2024.05.15 11:35 Saintly009 26 [M4F] Christian man seeking Christian woman #Washington #Online

I'm told women want a man who knows what he wants, so here's the whole nine yards. If there is anything here that you are not willing to accept, then don't. You will not change me now or years down the line. Obviously I intend to grow and mature (as one ought to), but I have decided who I am and what I want out of a relationship.
I am looking for a woman that I can make a permanent covenant bond with; I have no interest in flings or "long-term relationships."
I don't intend to come across as bitter or angry with any of this, just clear and up-front. It makes things easier for both of us.
A bit about me:
My faith in Christ is paramount in my life. I would not be where I am without him. In taking interests in various things, I've learned a lot about God's character and design. Each new thing I learn fills me with more worship of him and wonder at his works. It is very important to me that you share this admiration of God.
I have a full-time job that I am very satisfied with, but what I feel truly passionate about is art and storytelling. To be honest, I've hit a bit of a block lately as far as my output. But I've been trying to find my feet so I can make something valuable to share with the world. I think that art and stories are a fundamental part of being human, not just a luxury. So pretty much any kind of art will spark passion in me, be it music, cinema, video games, literature, video essay, sculpture, etc. I could go back and forth for hours on a lot of things. My hope is that you and I will be able to enjoy art together and create some of our own.
I frequently spend time with another gentleman from my Church and we enjoy conversations about personal projects and contemporary issues, along with walks along beaches and park trails. He is a very important friend in my life, and I am lucky to know such a kind soul. Things aren't well with my family, so I really need that kind of presence.
While I rely on my bicycle for transport (no car), it's not a problem for me. I've been riding bikes since I was in elementary school (maybe even before). It would be really nice to ride down some trails with you.
What I expect from you:
-You need to be a follower of Jesus Christ. God needs to be an active part of your life because I intend to raise our children under Biblical values.
-You need hobbies and interests apart from me. I'm fine with helping you find things you like.
-You need to have no mileage.
-You must be humble and respectful. "Boss babe" attitudes are not attractive to me.
-You cannot have any tattoos or piercings.
-No cosmetic products. It's not good for your body and I am attracted women, not makeup. This includes fake nails and fake eyelashes. I don't need you to look "pretty." You character is more important to me.
-Related to the previous, no use of image filters in photos. I do not like the type of people who are vain and vapid enough to feel the need to use filters on their photos.
-Again related to the previous, you need to have a limited social media presence. If you have a business or post something of value (like art, for example), then I have no problem. What I'm talking about is having an Instagram or Facebook account where you make random posts to nobody in particular to "update" the internet on your life or post tons of pictures of yourself online. Basing your self-worth on the comments and likes from strangers on the internet is unhealthy, and I find people's obsessive need to take pictures of themselves very unattractive and vain.
-If we marry, I expect you to be fully submissive to me. There can't be two leaders in a household because one will have to submit to the other.
-I expect you to view marriage as something that you put work into. Marriages are a team effort, so I expect you to be a help meet.
-You need to treat me like a partner, not an adversary. Getting into arguments and nagging me helps neither of us. You must have conflict-resolution skills and a solution mindset.
-You need excellent communication skills. This means understanding yourself, putting your thoughts into words other people can understand, and verbalizing things rather than expecting me to read your thoughts.
-You cannot play games with me. Telling me about other guys to make me jealous or planning dates for specific days to pressure me into committing to you are wicked and manipulative.
-While we are dating, you cannot have a "backup plan." I expect you to not be splitting your attention between me and other men. This includes spending time outside of work with other men (family excluded).
-You must be in shape. Don't be dishonest with yourself about your weight; check your BMI. This includes being underweight, anorexic, and bulimic.
-You cannot have taken any COVID-19 vaccinations from any provider.
-No smoking, drugs, or drunkenness.
-I expect you to completely renounce fast food if we date or marry. We will never feed our children McDonald's.
What you can expect from me:
-While we are dating, I will not be speaking to other women.
-I cannot meet your height, money, or attractiveness expectations. I am simply an average dude. I am critical, abstract, and imaginative in my thinking though.
-I will not ask you to do something that is unreasonable or demeaning. I will only ask of you what I expect from myself. No relationship is going to be 50/50 100% of the time, but I will put forth the effort I am able to. I expect the same out of you.
-I will not raise my hand against you. My hands will be a safe place for you.
-I will be available to listen to your troubles and help you bear through them.
-I will not demean you or humiliate you, whether or not you are in the room.
-I will show leadership in our house and exercise restraint with a mild temper.
-I will cherish you and treat you as my own body.
-I will devote myself to displaying my love for you in a language you understand, even if I am feeling distant from you because of troubles we face. I expect the same from you.
-I will not turn to another woman and betray you.
-I intend to keep every promise that I make with you.
-I will treat our children with patience and kindness, but diligently discipline them and instruct them appropriately.
Please tell me a bit about yourself and what you expect out of a relationship, but be practical and clear. A list of platitudes like "loyal, honest, etc" does not help me understand what you're looking for. Think about what your expectations look like in a tangible, everyday way.

10 Movies That Can Make Even A Man Cry Like A Toddler!
One can be moved to tears by a lot of movies. But, men are they also determined, strong-bodied and having a firmness of heart? Or are they just more likely to hide their feelings because the society still feels uncomfortable when it comes to “a crying man”? Nonetheless, despite the fact that these ‘macho’ men have been schooled on how to be guarded even though their eyes may get glossy with tears- there exist some films that could stir up strong emotions in them! That is why I present you with 10 such movies that can make a grown man cry like a baby! It is upon you now ladies to gather all the males in your house and let us know which one of them couldn’t hold back his tears.
1. Pursuit of Happyness

A family drama about a businessperson who loses everything he has invested in and takes an unpaid internship at a brokerage firm. The wife leaves him with his young son. This movie shows what real feelings people experience as fathers, husbands or simply human beings. Will Smith’s Chris carries himself throughout his misfortunes while always remaining positive towards his son; one scene shows father and son spending night in a toilet together – this is enough for any tough guy who never cries to melt down like an ice cream cone.
2. Saving Private Ryan
https://preview.redd.it/hjvx6rlvlj0d1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=7eb1746eef3289271b20a89f851080f5d5d98932

One of the most heartbreaking scenes in this movie is when older Ryan visits Miller’s tombstone and thanks his wife.
3. Armageddon

2024.05.15 08:39 KeyMarzipan4193 [TOMT] [Movie] Animated cartoon with evil witch, the bears and black magic, bucket and strange wolf [Repost]

My friend looks for an animated movie about a villain inside water bucket carried by a dog or a wolf. I searched Internet using different keywords - Google, IMDB and Fandom and nothing fits.
He watched it around 2013-2015 maybe? The animated 2D (or 3D low quality) cartoon movie is set in the world of animals. The people are antropomorphic animals like bears or pandas. They can speak like humans, but they don't understand the speech of other animals. The elder from their community is missing, so other bears dont know where he is. There is a painting of him too. The main villain of this story is a witch who put a curse on the other animals so their speech is incomprehensible and she also put a curse on the elder so that he is stuck inside a painting. The witch doesn't have a body (she lost it bc of a curse?) but she is actually the form of water and is carried around in a water bucket by a dog. She resides in an abandoned cave. The bears set out on a journey to find the witch and defeat her. In the end the curse is broken and the people inside the painting are free and the other animals can now talk.
If you have idea, let me know. Thank you in advance. I think that it is tough to find.

2024.05.15 08:26 Aeogeus Do Not Fight Monsters

“What do you mean it’s wrong?” said Tamara, becoming frustrated with Samuel.
“I'm trying to tell you that plants do not eat earth. They just absorb nutrients from it,” Samuel replied, equally annoyed as this was the fourth time he had explained it. “Look, just take my word for it, OK,” he added.
“Fine, but you will have to explain it again,” Tamara retorted.
Samuel and Tamara were partners in a scientific study of their forest home. It was genuinely idyllic in every sense of the word; the trees stretched high into the sky, and everyone was covered in succulent leaves, a deep and gorgeous shade of green. Around their trunks were rings of flowers gathered from every continent, and a thick carpet of grass lay on the ground.
The two sat underneath a chestnut tree, writing up their findings for the day. It had focused mainly on tree sizes and growth rates, and they had continued this study for, on and off, almost a year.
Samuel turned to look at his assistant and found that she was just as remarkable as the day they had first met: golden locks, like living sunlight, tied neatly in a bun. Her eyes were an emerald green, and all in all, she was gorgeous. However, it was when you came to her waist that things became truly incredible because rather than a pair of legs, there was a long and wide snake’s tail.
It was huge, at least seven metres long and as wide as her torso. The scales were the same beautiful colour as her hair and reflected the sunlight in such a way that she appeared to glow. She was wearing an ultramarine tunic with a black diamond in the centre. She was like this not because of a plague, a curse or some mutation; Tamara was a Lamia; it was how she was born.
Samuel, on the other hand, looked far less impressive. He was around five foot ten, with dull brown hair and equally dull eyes. His stomach stuck out from the rest of him. No amount of exercise was able to get rid of it.
He was by every description a ‘dull as dishwater’ human. His clothes, however, were slightly more interesting. He wore a navy blue tunic with a thick leather belt wrapped around his waist. On his feet was a pair of excellent leather boots, able to withstand whatever the world threw at them and on his forearms and shins, he wore something Tamara had never seen or even heard of before: a pair of vambraces and greaves, Samuel called it armour.
Three strips of rugged leather layered on top of one another made up each piece, and between each layer was a collection of tiny metal beads. When Tamara asked what they were for, Samuel said they were for protection.
All of this would have been inconceivable to Samuel two years ago, but he had become used to it in time. Samuel was not born into this world; he had arrived. How? He did not know, but he remembered it all vividly; his senses had been overloaded, and at first, he believed he had died.
“What’s wrong?” Tamara asked Samuel, who had been silent for over a minute.
Samuel snapped out of his daydream and said: “nothing, just thinking about that day again.”
Tamara nodded and said nothing else; she knew exactly what was wrong.
Samuel went straight back to writing. When Samuel first showed up, there had been no paper or pens, but what was even stranger than the lack of these apparent necessities was that Samuel had had to invent both of these items.
Tamara and those like her did not possess a written language; they relied entirely on their memories, and until Samuel had shown up, Tamara had not even conceived of the notion, but she had picked it up astonishingly quickly.
“It still sounds like eating to me,” said Tamara, bringing the conversation back to the original topic.
“Well, it isn’t; eating requires a mouth and stomach,” Samuel replied.
“Says who?” Tamara asked defiantly.
“Says me,” Samuel answered.
Samuel jotted down the last of his notes and left the pages to dry in the sun. Samuel then turned to his right and looked at a large book, the size of a chair’s seat, bound in yellow leather and knotted by animal tendons. He picked it up and began to leaf through the pages.
His eyes glanced over paragraphs about oak trees and orchid flowers until he finally reached the section he sought; the page was titled Silver Birch (Betula Pendula).
“Have you finished the drawing on Silver Birch yet?” Samuel asked without looking.
Tamara was currently focused on a drawing of sunflowers, but she understood his request and, without looking up or saying a word, handed him the picture he wanted.
Samuel took the drawing and took several moments admiring it. Like all her work, the picture was astounding; not only did it look like an actual Silver Birch, but it also seemed to be alive, as though it would start blowing in the breeze.
Samuel punched four holes along the sheet's left side, undid the tendon strings and then attached the drawing behind the title page. He added eight more pages to his book, four of text and four illustrations.
Their work was now done; there was no more writing or drawing today, and he placed their work into a knapsack Tamara had brought with her. Samuel turned to his partner and asked: “so what do you want to do now?”
Tamara looked up through the canopy and could make out the silhouettes of several birds and finally said: “I’d quite like to fly.”
Samuel smiled, chuckled and said, “Yes, so would I, but that would require every member of the village working together for decades.”
Tamara looked Samuel in the eye and said: “are you making fun of me?”
Samuel did not reply; he just looked Tamara dead in the eye. She observed every minute twitch on Samuel's face and concluded he was not.
“How could a person fly?” She asked, suddenly intrigued.
“I don’t know, I’m not an engineer,” Samuel answered, “So apart from flying, what else do you want to do?”
Tamara let out a sigh and said: “I guess we will just have to walk.”
These were the moments Samuel lived for, just a quiet afternoon with his best friend enjoying a stroll; he was utterly content.
“You seem chipper,” Tamara said, noticing the growing smile on Samuel’s face.
“That’s because I feel chipper” he replied
They passed through the trees, heading towards their favourite spot, a beach by the side of a lake so large you could not see the other side.
“So, how is everyone?” Samuel said, trying to spark a conversation.
“You mean every single one because that could take a while?” Tamara replied.
“Let’s start with your mother” he clarified.
Tamara’s mother, Pancha, was more or less just a larger version of her daughter, just as brash and headstrong.
“She’s fine; she has finally stopped asking me what happened every time I come to meet you,” she said.
“Really, and it only took her two and a half years,” said Samuel with a smirk.
Yes, that first year here, had been a real trial. Samuel had never felt so scared, isolated and persecuted in his life. When he thought about it, he could still feel the fear and the hopelessness.
A gust of air slammed into Samuel’s face, bringing him back to the present, and what a wonderful time it was. The water was crystal clear, the beach was covered in sparkling white sand, and the distinct aroma of water wafted through the air. Samuel breathed it all in as Tamara spread herself over the beach.
The cooling breeze that Samuel found so enjoyable, Tamara found far less agreeable. Tamara was ectothermic or cold-blooded. She could not maintain her body temperature; she needed to absorb it from her environment, and the wind was slowly draining her.
“Comfortable down there?” Samuel asked.
Tamara turned her head, looked up at him and said: “Actually, yes, not as good as my bed, but still fine.”
Samuel left Tamara to her thermoregulation and strolled down to the water’s edge, “stay where I can see you!” Tamara called.
“Yes, MOM,” Samuel answered sarcastically, though he knew it was more for Tamara’s sake than his; she had a problem with open spaces.
Samuel closed his eyes, stretched his arms above his head, feeling his muscles strain against the tension, and yawned. Small tears formed in his eyes and wiped them away. He had only been up for a few hours but was ready for bed.
“Too much thinking, that was the problem,” Samuel mumbled to himself.
The sunlight sparkled on the water’s surface. It seemed as though millions of diamonds were suddenly brought into existence, danced for a few moments, and then vanished as quickly as they came. It was beautiful, just like everything else here.
He climbed up a rock that jutted from that sand and sat down, his legs dangling over the edge. As he kicked his legs, a ray of sun caught his greaves, and although the leather was rather dull, it still dazzled him.
Samuel heard a sound reminiscent of sandpaper brushing against wood, and he knew at once what it was. He waited four more seconds and said, without moving an inch, “Don’t even think about it!”
“How did you know?” Tamara asked, feeling simultaneously impressed, confused and disappointed.
Samuel looked her in the eye and replied: “who do you think you’re dealing with?”
Tamara had not clambered up the rock like Samuel; she had simply raised herself on her tail so she stood over two metres high.
“Are you feeling better?” he asked.
Tamara smiled and answered, “yes, thanks for asking.”
Tamara moved behind Samuel and then began to coil around the boulder, and if he had not experienced it all before, it would have been unnerving. Tamara was only twelve and a half, yet she was already far stronger than him. Samuel was sure if Tamara really wanted to, she could crush a bison to death. After the graceful dance around the stone, she sat down beside Samuel.
The pair was silent for a few minutes, except for a quick coughing fit by Samuel; they took in the unnatural beauty of their surroundings.
“Hey, I have a question,” said Tamara, coming back to her senses.
“What is it?” Samuel replied.
“You still haven’t told me why we are studying the forest?” She asked.
In an instant, Samuel became deeply confused. To him, it seemed all too obvious why they were doing it.
“There is no practical reason for doing it. We do it so that we know,” Samuel answered.
Tamara became silent. Samuel realised that she was deep in thought and decided to give her all the time she needed until she finally said: “Is this one of those human things?”
Samuel, upon hearing this, gave a small chuckle and answered: “yes, if you like.”
Suddenly, something caught Samuel’s eye. It was a crab, no bigger than a golf ball. Its back was powder blue, and it held its arms upright, its claws pointing down. The tiny creature would walk forward, scoop some sand into its mouth, and then leave a small pellet behind.
“Look at that!” said Samuel, nudging Tamara’s shoulder and pointing at the tiny crustacean. Tamara turned her head and looked directly at where he was pointing; she strained her eyes at what she thought was a pebble; she was about to climb down and collect it when it suddenly moved, and she squealed.
Tamara dragged the bottom end of her tail up from the beach and timidly said, “What’s that?”
Samuel remembered that tone of voice all too well, and it brought with it some unpleasant memories, but he pushed them to the back of his mind and said: “it’s a crab.”
Samuel was certain he had seen this type of crab before but could not put a name to the image. Samuel was sure he had read about them, watched a documentary, or attended a lecture, but he could not remember. Ultimately, he decided to drop it for now and see if the answer would come to him.
Tamara kept staring at it as though she believed it would pounce if she took her eyes off it for one second.
“Is it dangerous?” she asked, her voice hushed to ensure the creature did not notice her.
Samuel sighed and answered: “it’s a crab, Tamara, unless you happen to be a nematode then…”
Samuel paused mid-sentence as his brain finally connected the dots and asked, “Wait, you have never seen a crab before?”
This perplexed Samuel for a moment until he remembered that Tamara did not have a television, a car, and she could not fly a plane, so it was not unexpected that she would not know what a crab was.
Tamara shook her head in response to his question, and Samuel added: “you know what a woodlouse is, right?”
Tamara nodded and said, “I like woodlice.”
“Well, a crab is just a type of woodlouse that lives near water,” Samuel concluded.
However, he could tell from her face that she was unconvinced, so he got off the rock, walked over to the tiny creature, wary of its pincers, and picked it up by its backside.
“What are you doing?” Tamara called in alarm.
Samuel held the animal, its legs flailing wildly in an attempt to escape, and said, “showing you there is nothing to be worried about.”
Taking care not to crush it, Samuel clambered back up the rock and presented the animal to her. Tamara stared at it for some as the crab bobbed its eye up and down and tried in vain to find a part of Samuel it could nip.
“It’s actually kind of… cute,” Tamara said after two minutes of silence.
She relaxed her tail and let it rest on the beach once more. “Can it hold it?” She asked Samuel, fear being replaced by interest.
“Of course, you can. Just make sure you hold it by its back and be careful of the pincers; if they get you, it will hurt.”
Samuel handed the crab over to her and watched as Tamara began to inspect the animal from every angle. The crab had a white underbelly and purple joints.
“You think you could draw it from memory?” Samuel asked.
“Hmm?” Tamara replied. Samuel let out a sigh and repeated. After three more attempts, Tamara finally took notice and said, “Yes.”
Five minutes later, Samuel said, “we should probably put him back now.”
Tamara moaned about it, but Samuel said: “he has his own life, Tamara; you can’t keep him!”
She conceded, grumbling under her breath, and gently placed the animal back on the sand. As the crab dashed away, the two noticed that while they had been fixated on that single crab, thousands more had emerged on the beach.
Upon seeing the swarm of animals make their way across the beach, Tamara let out a squeal and once again pulled her tail up off the beach. The army of crabs marched along the shore. The collective walking produced a sound loud enough to hear from fifty metres away, and at last, Samuel remembered what they were and said, with no small amount of satisfaction in his voice, “they’re soldier crabs.”
“What are they going to do?” Tamara asked, concerned by the sudden appearance of so many creatures.
Samuel kept staring at the gathering, but he heard her question and replied, “They’re just feeding,” and added quickly, “But we are far too big for them.”
“That's odd,” Samuel said under his breath.
“I know there are so many of them,” Tamara said, deeply unnerved by the sheer vastness of the swarm.
“No,” Samuel said, “There should be this many of them; it’s where they are that is strange.”
Tamara momentarily took her eyes off the army and asked, “So where should they be.” There was a slight flicker of fear in her voice at the prospect of being invaded; rats and mice where bad enough. They did not need another pest.
“By the sea, not a freshwater lake,” he answered.
“The Sea?” Tamara almost yelled. Samuel was a little surprised by this enthusiasm and turned to face her.
“Yes,” he said.
“Have you ever been to the sea,” she asked.
“Yes, many times,” Samuel said, uncertain where this was going.
“I bet it’s wonderful,” Tamara added with a smile.
Samuel was silent as his brain connected a few dots and asked: “how can you know about the sea if you don’t know about crabs?”
She smiled; Tamara enjoyed it when she knew something that he did not, “there is a story that my mom told me that before we came to this forest, we were a different people that lived by the sea.” Tamara paused for a breath.
“But then humans came and drove us from the water, and we fled inland. Our people split into two. One half went to the mountains, and the other settled in the forest.”
Tamara finished and waited for his reply. Samuel, however, just kept looking at her. Tamara was concerned that she had upset him; he did not like it when humans were labelled as the enemy, yet his face and posture were not those of one who was sad or angry.
“You people blame us for everything, don’t you?” Samuel said with a chuckle.
“If there is a fire, it’s a human’s fault. If there is an earthquake, it’s a human’s fault. If a little Boreray boy drinks all their apple juice in one gulp, it’s a human’s fault.”
“So, getting back on topic, where did these “Soldier crabs” come from anyway? We have visited this lake for over two years and never seen even a glimpse?” Tamara asked. Samuel looked back to the slowly advancing army, and several ideas flashed through his head.
“Maybe they have been dormant up until now; perhaps they make a large circle around the lake shore, and it’s simply luck that we were here on the day they passed by, or maybe the migrated here from somewhere else.”
They watched the crabs' ceaseless march until Tamara said, “These things are still giving me the creeps. Can we go now?” Samuel could not argue that there was something eerie about all of these animals appearing, seemingly, from nowhere; however, there was still one thing he had to be certain of.
“You think you could draw one from memory?” he asked.
Tamara’s face contorted in a scowl. Samuel, for all his good points, could become far too focused on his research, which often caused him to become ignorant of other people.
Yet she knew sitting here yelling at him would accomplish nothing, so she told him the truth: “Yes, can we go now!” Samuel nodded and then slid off the rock. Tamara copied him, and they both slinked back to the cover of the trees.
Now that she was beneath the canopy, Tamara let out an enormous sigh of relief as the anxiety slowly left, and the close air warmed her body. On the other hand, Samuel began to chafe at the stagnant air while his head began to bead with sweat, but it was nothing he had not experienced before, so he gritted his teeth and bared with it.
With their plans now ruined, Tamara and Samuel wandered aimlessly through the woods, chatting about what they could do to fill the rest of the day. Several ideas arose, including visiting a nearby waterfall and a set of monument stones, but none truly appealed to them.
In the end, Tamara said, “how about we just call it a day?”
Samuel was happy about this. Tamara was his only form of human contact, yet he could not deny the pointlessness of wandering around the woods, so he said, “Ok, but let’s take the long way.”
Samuel heard a sound above him and saw a red squirrel scampering through the trees.
“Is it difficult?” Tamara asked.
Samuel looked at Tamara and replied, “Well, it can give me a crick in my neck sometimes.”
Tamara let out a short laugh and clarified, “No, I mean, is it difficult being so inquisitive? It looks exhausting.”
He was not entirely sure what she meant by that. To Samuel, Tamara was every bit as curious as him, so he stated: “you tell me, you went out looking for me just because you wanted to know.”
“True,” answered Tamara, “and everyone has always said that I am always asking questions, but you’re like a boar that just ate sugar beat.”
“I have no idea what that means,” Samuel said, shaking his head. “But I do know that people always told me, when I was a boy, that humans are, by their nature, infinitely curious, but personally, I think that it’s just how I was born.” there was a pause, and he quickly added, “just like you.”
Tamara’s fingers started to numb as she brushed them against the bark of passing trees. She took a good look at the trees around her. Tamara had lived her entire life sheltered by these trees. This place was her home, her family’s home and her friend’s home, and she loved it, a perfect example of the innate beauty of nature.
Samuel, however, was of a different opinion this forest disturbed him, though this feeling had diminished with time. The trees all grew in perfect symmetry, four and a half strides form each other.
From Tamara’s perspective, there was nothing strange about this, yet Samuel often said that this should not be possible, that the wood should be a mess and that the trees should grow in an unorganised fashion. Yet to Tamara, the idea of messy forests was just as impossible as a structured one was to him.
Noon came and went, and Samuel’s stomach began to rumble. His breakfast was becoming a distant memory; he thought he might be able to bear it for another hour or so, but as they travelled closer to the village, Tamara started to become irritated by Samuel’s constant growling.
“We need to find you something to eat before that sound drives me nuts!” Tamara stated bluntly.
“That’s all well and good, my dear, so long as you can materialise food out of the aether,” answered Samuel, with just a hint of condescension in his voice.
Tamara did not know what the aether was, but it did not matter. “No, but I do know a nearby tree with some great fruit in it,” she replied.
Samuel found this strange for two reasons. Firstly, he found it very difficult to believe there was a source of food in this forest that either he had not found, or Tamara had not told him about yet.
Secondly that, Tamara would know much about something she could not eat. Tamara was strictly carnivorous; she ate nothing but meat.
He wanted answers fast and asked: “So why haven’t you told me about this before?”
“Because I can’t stand the smell, that’s why, and I didn’t want you stinking up the place,” she explained.
“If it smells disgusting, what makes you think I will eat it?” he asked.
“Because the Boreray can’t get enough of it, some of them say that they taste like all the best parts of every fruit and vegetable we grow, which is a shame because they smell like all the worst,” she added.
He asked no more questions. He was too busy thinking; this fruit sounded so familiar, but he could not remember. The need to survive day in day out had pushed most of his standard learning, from school and university to the back of his mind, not forgotten mind you just buried.

2024.05.15 08:19 Skreedeb Increasing Reward for Random Criminals (mod question)

Hey y'all,
I know this is probably a question for the modding sub, but I checked and there are only ever like 6 people online at a time, so do bear with me. So I've been using Bounty Hunting Expanded and Enhanced, in conjunction with Bandit Hideouts. The intention is to utilize a feature in the bounty hunting mod, which allows you to return rival gang members to police stations for a small reward. This seems like a fantastic mod to use with bandit hideouts, but the only problem is that the reward is like an average of like $9-$12. Frankly, it's not worth the effort. The mod itself is great, but if I'm being honest it can be a little bit janky, for example, you need to leave town, and come back in order for a new poster to spawn, since the game has to take a picture of a new NPC that spawns above you (that you'll sometimes see when entering a town) and even then the picture usually doesn't load onto the page.
So I was wondering, does anyone else use this mod? And if so, is there a file I can edit or a line I can add that increases the range for rewards? I've already looked in the INI and .dat files but the changes made to those only seem to affect named bounties you get from posters.

The Tale of Two Teddys - How I Got Them for FREE
Here’s how I got a Jade and Magenta NF Teddy for FREE!
I was browsing eBay in bed one night when I came across this bundle (see photo). Looks like your typical bundle of common Beanie Babies, right? That’s what I thought but then I looked closer. Right up front is a 7 spot Lucky. Pretty cool but there’s more to find here. At first I thought that was The End and Valentina up in the left corner but then I noticed the ribbon was white-ish rather than Valentina’s pink ribbon. I felt pretty confident this was a Magenta NF Teddy but wasn’t too sure if the other was Jade or not. I’m a photographer so I zoomed in and processed the image in Lightroom. Sure enough, what looked like a black bear was indeed a green bear with a red ribbon. Jade confirmed.
It had a starting bid of $35 or a buy it now price of $50. While I love being cheap, this was too good to pass up and I didn’t want to risk someone else buying it so I paid the $50. All in with shipping and tax the total came out to $64.08, which honestly isn’t a bad price for two NF colored Teddys. You could look at this as $32.04 for each, or roughly $1.56 for each item in the bundle.
I kept a few other things from the lot but decided to sell off the rest to try and make back what I spent. It took 73 days but I was able to make back all of my money. Boom! Free Teddys.
Keep a sharp eye, my friends and happy hunting!

2024.05.15 07:38 AnOfficeWorker The iPhone 13 camera and possibly it's default settings tainting my self awareness 👹WITH LIES!!!!! 👹

After a loved had taken a picture of me on their iPhone 13 I was repulsed, disgusted even.
I had dawned a athletic sprinter outfit on a walk with a loved one. I had worn this outfit beforehand and seen it in the mirror and was extremely infatuated .
But, on that day of the walk, when I had asked them to photograph me, it was nothing like what I saw in the mirror.
I have little to no physical insecurities besides my face. Im utterly horrified as to what people may see combined with my hair, face, eyes, and lips put together. The possibility of me staring at someone with a chance of me having a lazy eye, or a fluoride stare is sickening.
Just the thought of approaching anybody with that fills me with dread. Keep in mind this is coming from a person who thinks talking to strangers outside is fun, AND THATS THE THING!! I can't do that if I look like a oversaturated YouTube kids cartoon thumbnail with the sharpness bumped to the max dude! For chuck sakes- NO AVERAGE HUMAN IS GOING TO BE ABLE TO SEE EVEEY PORE AND DISCOLORATION ON YOUR FACE MAN!!
I take photos with a Samsung a04 and even a free phone and know to never use the cameras by themself, I always take them in the mirror and I kid you QUCKING NOT, it looked exactly like the imagery shown in real time. So I have some awareness of what I should at least know people are seeing from a glance right?
Well with that absolute cow manure of a camera it will make you think you look like a greasy individual in their mid 40's who is also probably not allowed anywhere near a school building.
For CHUCK SAKE MAN! NO AVERAGE PERSON SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THE GRAVEL PIT SOMEONE WOULD CALL A FACE COVERED IN THE WHAT WAS ONCE AND ALWAYS THEN SMALL UN NOTICABLE ACNE FRECKLES AND DISCOLORATION FROM 30 FEET AWAY FROM THE SCREEN PHONE SCREEN!! 👹👹👹👹
Anyway besides that what did we learn?
The iPhone 13's camera is repulsive and will send one of you guys and even the most confident of people into a existential crisis (I don't wanna say but this goes for some other cameras I have no experience with as well)
Filters and highly effected photos if unknowingly done could also cause a crisis (I have experience and really balanced knowledge in taking photos even though I rarely ever take them but still)
And 3?
I forgor 💀

2024.05.15 07:38 TheJawz15 Thoughts on the Portrayal of the NCR in the Fallout TV Show

Thoughts on the Portrayal of the NCR in the Fallout TV Show
Tl;dr when the NCR are portrayed in the Fallout TV show as being a far cry from their power in Fallout 2 and New Vegas. This is because they were already collapsing and dying a slow death. From hiring people like Fantastic and not being able to vet or produce new scientists and talents, to the loss of essential resources like water that they have to use Lake Mead to get water and power they need, coupled with incompetent leadership and land owners that could easily secede and become warlords over their own domain, it is easy to see why
When the Fallout television show first came out, I noticed a lot of people complaining and criticizing the portrayal of the New California Republic and how it should not have fallen that far between Fallout New Vegas and the TV show. But I think that in New Vegas, it quite clearly stated that the NCR are on the precipice of collapse and that the play for Vegas is a Hail Mary of a dying empire. There are four instances that point me to the idea that the NCR is weaker than people think. They are: Fantastic, the guy met at Helios One, and the accompanying scientist, Dr. Ignacio Rivas, Chief Hanlon at Camp Golf, General Lee Oliver and Aaron Kimball, and the Brahmin Barons and the NCR economy. These four, in my view, show that the NCR was already starting to fall apart when they tried to make the play for Vegas in Fallout New Vegas.

The Smartest Character to Ever Appear in Fallout
Let's start with Fantastic and what he does in Helios One. What he does at Helios One is nothing. Despite the caption and official stats, this guy is running with a 3 INT, 10 CHR. He is the epitome of the incompetence within the bureaucracy in the NCR. Through his dialogue, the player will learn that the way he obtained the position he did at Helios One is some NCR officials went door to door asking for scientists and he pulled a wonderful little trick where he said that he had a theoretical degree in physics. This means that there is no vetting of candidates. That they just took a guy off the street and said, "Hey you are going to be in charge of a solar power plant that we used quite a bit of resources to gain from the Brotherhood of Steel." And if that ain't wild, I don't know what is. This also points to a lack of schools and education centers that could make scientists that the NCR can tap into when they need them for problems like this. OSI exists, but doesn't seem to have the resources to do fill the gaps made in the expansion of the NCR. But hiring an incompetent person is not the worst thing in the world most of the time. Every company and government has done it before, and will do it again. But the worst thing is that Fantastic would probably have been caught earlier for his incompetence if it wasn't for Dr. Ignacio.

The Man Behind the Fantastic
Dr. Ignacio Rivas is a simple man who wants to help everyone. But he is also emblematic of the incompetence and inability of the NCR to audit their own people. Dr. Rivas is a member of the Followers of the Apocalypse, a bunch of good people who in Fallout New Vegas, act as a sort of Red Cross organization. They handle illnesses, addictions, and other types of medical problems along with running education programs as well. But Dr. Rivas is a different type of member, one who is more akin to another member of the Followers of the Apocalypse that siphoned water away from the NCR sharecropper farm. He is acting to keep the NCR from learning about the secret of Helios One, while also making sure that its repairs do not go along with what the NCR wants, but what he wants. He wants the power to go to everyone, the NCR wants it to go to the Strip and Camp McCarran. Dr. Rivas doesn't help Fantastic and the NCR with the power situation, and is probably actively These two people at Helios One shows that the NCR either doesn't care or doesn't have the resources to audit and vet the people they put in these important areas.

Even if I side with the NCR, I still don't like this guy
The story of General Lee Oliver is one that just kind of reeks of corruption and nepotism. He is essentially the general you don't want to be serving under if you are in the military. He is egotistical, lazy, and just doesn't do well with those below him. When talking to Boone about General Oliver, he mentions that he is kind of distant, only being a signature on his discharge papers. That there was talk that Oliver wouldn't be in that position even if he wasn't buddy-buddy with the president Aaron Kimball. Without even seeing much of him, you know when you first meet him that he is not prepared for any plans that the Legion is going to throw at him. He seems to do no information gathering, no consolidation of resources to deal with the situations at Nipton, Camp New Hope, or anywhere else. He looks like the ineffectual general that people make fun of when talking about real life wars where you wonder how they even got into the position they are in. He is the hint of the level of corruption that is present within the NCR, and that if there are others who are like Oliver in positions of leadership, then it is no wonder that the NCR wasn't able to do any recovery operation in the ruins of Shady Sands.

The Man Who Started This Post
What made me think about the state of the NCR in the Fallout TV show and how it actually made sense that the NCR wouldn't be able to reclaim Shady Sands after the nuke fell on it and that the only presence they have are remnants led by Moldaver. It was a specific line that he says when you first talk to him. As he looks out over Lake Las Vegas, he mentions how beautiful the sunrise, or sunset I can't remember, is over a lake, and that there are no lakes in California. That they all dried up. This made me think that the resources that the NCR holds is actually very limited and most likely dwindling rapidly. This may also explain the desert look of a lot of California in the TV show, since there are no lakes, rivers, or bodies of water to sustain any agriculture in the area. This one set of lines shows that the NCR is probably desperate for the water and power that Hoover Dam can give and is probably the place that will save and sustain the NCR's empire. He is also a sign of the NCR incompetence that is just rampant throughout the game because they never found out that he was the one that was causing the communications problem unless the player says that they are going to arrest him and then he confesses and commits suicide.

Future Warlord
This final part is about two things that are connected, the NCR economy and Brahmin Barons. During the NCR-Brotherhood War, the NCR's gold reserve was destroyed in a Brotherhood attack, causing the NCR currency to crash in value. This in turn, caused an economic downturn of the NCR. While this was happening, the Brahmin Barons, like Heck Gunderson pictured here, took advantage of Kimball's expansionist policies to sweep up vast swathes of land for themselves. Now that there was economic instability and the way that people moved away from the NCR dollar back to bottle caps showed that people like Heck Gunderson could very well secede from the NCR and the NCR itself could fall into a state of multiple factions. It is mentioned in the quest Pheeble Will that Gunderson uses raider and warlord type tactics in gaining land that he desires. The Brahmin Barons are the ones in the greatest spot to leave the NCR while they waste resources in the Mojave. The Barons and the economy collapsing caused places like Shady Sands to fall into turmoil that was only exacerbated when the capital was moved. In the Fallout show, we see a library book that has the final check out date in 2276. There is also a chalk board with the very basic history of Shady Sands and how it "fell" in 2277. This fall is probably referring to an economic fall and the public services, like the library and schools, probably became quite limited due to the economic downturn in the NCR. Multiple states in the NCR might have also pulled away causing the NCR to consolidate around a few states like the Hub and Vault City. Which is why when Shady Sands was nuked, the NCR never came back. The only NCR presence there, were the ones that were already there, with no reinforcements or anything else.
In the end, New Vegas showed an NCR that was masquerading as a powerful force by being everywhere while doing nothing. They were an empire in their death throes and I believe that through these people we meet and what they say and represent, it shows that if the play for the Mojave doesn't work, then the NCR will collapse. The show may have shown that the NCR has actually collapsed due to the events of New Vegas not going the way of the NCR. The NCR has collapsed under its own weight, and the bear has bled out through a death by a thousand cuts.
If you made it this far then thank you very much. I am sorry if this is kind of incoherent and I rambled on too long. Let me know if I got any information wrong. Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk.

2024.05.15 07:16 Galaxyqueen201 (29f) I’m still a virgin though…

(29f) I’m still a virgin though…
I (29 F) have been single my whole life. I’ve been asked out a couple times irl, but that’s it. The first guy who asked me out I had a crush on but would later find out he was an ass on said date. He didn’t even want to date me he just wanted advice for getting another girl and to trash talk my best friend bc I guess she rejected him (she knew I liked him). The other guy who asked me out gave me the total creeps so I wanted nothing to do with him. So I never went out with him. These were back in high school. Lately I’ve been trying the whole online dating thing and have been kinda talking to this one guy (29 m) who seems cool, but it’s long distance. So I took to an anonymous app to ask for advice. I didn’t get much advice but this one dude, sounded like a dude, started saying I’ll never get married bc I’m a slut. I’m a virgin. I’ve never even kissed a guy or even held hands. I tried to tell him I’m not a slut, but he just kept on. He said I said “I have lines of guys and girls who want me”. I’ve never said that, and if I did have lines of guys wanting me, I probably wouldn’t ask for advice on a long distance relationship. My last reply to this jerk was a facepalm emoji with ice cream as a background bc when I can’t find a background that suits the post I use food. He called me a fat slut and I reported him for bullying. And guys like that wonder why women pick the bear. I’m changing my name on that app. The entire “conversation” is pictured other than the last one that I reported.

2024.05.15 06:52 ahyesthebest Now that the Tokyo Teddy Bear append chart broke the loose "only VS songs get rage charts" rule, what other songs do you think would get a fun append rage chart?

I really like the idea of one for JUMPIN' OVER! It could recreate the one very very long hold note from Issen Kounen except it moves around this time in reference to the 2DMV. Plus, I feel like JUMPIN' OVER Master missed some rhythmic opportunities that an append chart could totally do.

2024.05.15 06:45 i_wont_hide_my_truth Raised By A Narcissist

i love you but you don’t care. you love a part of me that’s not there. the part of me that thought you were invincible, that part of me that held you on the highest of pedestals. that part of me you loved died with every time your hand connected with my face in a cold slap. it died with every venomous shout that bursted from your lips at me. that part of me dissipated with every lie you told. every time you attempted to turn me against my mother. tried to make me hate her but i love her. my love for you died when i realized you didn’t love me at all. you loved when i was like you. and when i suddenly wasn’t you punished me in an attempt to change me back. but im not an innocent child anymore, i don’t hang on your every word. i now can differentiate love from abuse. i wish i had known it sooner. i wish i could go back and help that little girl before she was hurt so badly. she didn’t deserve any of that and you know it, but you were too focused on keeping her like you. and that broke her. she grew up too soon. i can’t fix what you did to her. all the times you starved her and now shes starving herself. all the times you made her cry and beg her mother for help, and now she can’t cry at all. she no longer wants help, because she always had to help herself. she doesn’t need anyone else. she thought you hated her and now she hates herself. she deserved a love that you couldn’t give. and the love you believed was so intense was what slowly killed her. your love was poison because it wasn’t love at all. your heart was filled with a desire to be a god, a picture of perfection. you were the opposite. you drained the love and life from your family and blamed everyone but yourself when you ended up alone. your idea of love wasn’t fair to give. the only person who deserved your demented form of love was you. only you deserve the cold emotion that you gave. i only wish i could make you feel the cold you made me feel. all the warmth you stole from me never made you any less cold. i wish i could say you made me stronger. but i don’t feel strong.. only lost. i crave the deep love and affection you were supposed to give me. but when i receive it i shut down and run away before they can, like you did.
the thought of me being anything like you boils a burning anger through my veins. i’m not like you, but i am half of you. i wish i wasn’t. you didn’t deserve to procreate, to have little people who thought everything of you. while you, well you only wanted us to love you, but you couldn’t do the same. you only loved that we loved you. and when we stopped… you started acting like it was our fault. like our anger wasn’t valid. that we were irrational for seeking closure for your abuse. i speak my truth and you shut me down and ghost me because you know it’s true, but you can’t bear the thought of you being the villain. so you make me one. but im the victim of you… of your narcissistic personality, your narcissistic actions. i’m a victim of you. i deserved love. i know i did. but you only gave me love when it suited you. when it made you glow like the perfect person you perceived yourself to be. but you’re a black hole and you try to suck everyone around you into it in attempt to pull yourself back out. but you only fall farther while hurting those who used to love you.

2024.05.15 06:41 Squishydemon94 My dog saved my life

She didn't run into a burning building, she didn't dive into a river or jump in front of a train; she was just being her perfect self.
About a year ago, the depression and anxiety I've struggled with for years flared up and became worse than I could have imagined. It scared me, and I naively thought I could pull through it by myself. I was wrong.
That day, I learn that your brain wants to protect itself. It wants to protect itself so much that it will sacrifice anything, including it's own body to escape stress. I was far more than stressed, I felt hopeless like nothing I'd ever felt before. I just wanted it to stop.
I was driving down country roads after dropping some things off to my parents' new house. I wasn't even a mile away, going 57 miles per hour on a two lane street. I noticed some trees off the side of the road and they were many decades old. They could certainly cause a lot of damage if I were to just drive into them i thought. Especially if I sped up a bit.
I thought about how it could just end. It could just stop. Every bad thought, all the negative self image, no more stress. All I had to do was turn the steering wheel slightly.
I could picture it: the metal and plastic of my wonderful car would make a ruckus as they crushed and bent. The families enjoying their dinners in near by homes would come running out before phoning an ambulance, but if I did it just right, it wouldn't matter. I would be gone, everything would stop, and I would hurt no more.
But then I stopped and I could clear visualize a small broken mass in the wreckage; my dog who was happily looking out the window and smelling all the wonderful scents the world had to offer. She had her head out the window, the wind billowing in her fur. She would die too.
14 years old and 16 pounds. She would have the same fate I wanted, and she looked so happy with sparkling eyes behind graying fur. I couldn't bear to see her bloody and broken despite how much I wanted to be, and go to the grave knowing my selfishness would be the reason for her demise.
All this flew through my head in only a few seconds as I sharply corrected my course from where I was veering. I drove home stiff and numb, and when I finally put that car in park, I just held my precious puppy and cried.
After a few more months of those dark thoughts, I reached out for help. I am medicated now and in therapy and doing much better than I have in over 7 years. My dog is still alive, but is suffering from dementia and is worsening. She was my 6th birthday present and I hardly remember a time without her. I don't know how I'm gonna go on without her when the time comes. After all, she saved my life. And she'll never know it. I just hope I've given her a good enough life, because the gift she gave me, a second chance, is as priceless as she is.
